What are the Global Priorities?

Who is IDF?
 65 years old,
 Mission: to promote diabetes care, prevention and a cure worldwide,
 An umbrella organization of over 234 national diabetes associations
in 168 countries and territories,
 Responsible for more than 415 million people living with diabetes,
 Associated with the Department of Public Information of
the United Nations and is in official relations with
the World Health Organization (WHO) and
the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
What are IDF Priorities?
 Better and stability of IDF financial status,
 Balanced growth of both global and regions,
 Building Global Education Projects,
 Building Humanitarian Projects,
 Better world wide recognition of IDF.
Current status of IDF financial situation
 3.5 million € annual structural deficit
 Corporate funding (yrs 2012 to 2015)
 Reduced from 3 million € to 1.26 million €
 23 corporates to 11
 No new corporate initiation
 Depend on congress income for unrestricted fund
 Significant reduction of congress income
 More than 1 million € 2016 budget deficit
 High salary and benefits
 High office operation cost
Current growth of both global and regions
 94% of total budget allocated to the global office
 No or low existing regional office support
 Low monetary support (30,000 € per year)
 No project support
 No encouragement of regional and local projects
 IDF should become a supporting tower
 IDF regions allowed more independent activities
Building Global Education Projects
 Creation of a Global Diabetes School
 It is Web based learning
 Support of both Professional and Patients
 MA involvement is critical
 Regional Culture, religions, social structures, and
economic standing must be consider for lecture materials.
 For example, Education modules for lower income
 Pilot Study Necessary
Building DM foot Projects
 Link with High Quality Educational Institutions
 Capacity building with Western University Health Science Center
 In communication with Dean
 Developing in campus training program
 Conduct international level of research
 Dominica Republic Diabetic Foot center
Building Diabetic Retinopathy Projects
 Multi-centered early DR screening project
 Early detection of diabetic retinopathy
 Pilot study start at China, Bangladesh, and N. Korea
 Simple Funduscopic (nomal vs. abnormal)
 Centralization of Computer programmed reading center
Building Humanitarian Projects
 Diabetes Clinic Habitat Project “Diabetat”
 Construction of Diabetes Clinics in poverty areas
 Provide free insulin, antiglycemic agents, lancets, alcohol swabs, etc
 Screening for DM, Diabetic retinopathy, Diabetic foot
 Local education center
 Focal and contact point in case of emergency, such as a natural disaster
 Managed by the Reginal offices and MAs.
Better recognition of IDF
 The color of IDF should be:
 Scientific NGO
 Humanitarian NGO
 Medical NGO
 Showing the world we are representing the rights for
people living with diabetes.
 How?
 True promotion of the Blue circle and humming bird
• No IDF in the future unless we manage our funds more
effectively, efficiently, and economically.
• Current levels of spending are not acceptable (i.e, high paid staff,
benefits, and operation costs).
• Continue to seek potential donors other than pharmaceutical
companies.
• Continue to develop projects which will attract potential donors
• Diabetes schools, and Diabetat projects will bring more attention
to National Governments, International Organizations, as well as
Industrial Partners.
• Becoming more transparent, focused, and recognized by the true
color of IDF.

Who is IDF?  65 years old,  Mission: to promote diabetes care, prevention and a cure worldwide,  An umbrella organization of over 234 national diabetes associations in 168 countries and territories,  Responsible for more than 415 million people living with diabetes,  Associated with the Department of Public Information of the United Nations and is in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
  • 3. What are IDF Priorities?  Better and stability of IDF financial status,  Balanced growth of both global and regions,  Building Global Education Projects,  Building Humanitarian Projects,  Better world wide recognition of IDF.

  • 8. Building Diabetic Retinopathy Projects  Multi-centered early DR screening project  Early detection of diabetic retinopathy  Pilot study start at China, Bangladesh, and N. Korea  Simple Funduscopic (nomal vs. abnormal)  Centralization of Computer programmed reading center

Building Humanitarian Projects  Diabetes Clinic Habitat Project “Diabetat”  Construction of Diabetes Clinics in poverty areas  Provide free insulin, antiglycemic agents, lancets, alcohol swabs, etc  Screening for DM, Diabetic retinopathy, Diabetic foot  Local education center  Focal and contact point in case of emergency, such as a natural disaster  Managed by the Reginal offices and MAs.

  • 11. • No IDF in the future unless we manage our funds more effectively, efficiently, and economically. • Current levels of spending are not acceptable (i.e, high paid staff, benefits, and operation costs). • Continue to seek potential donors other than pharmaceutical companies. • Continue to develop projects which will attract potential donors • Diabetes schools, and Diabetat projects will bring more attention to National Governments, International Organizations, as well as Industrial Partners. • Becoming more transparent, focused, and recognized by the true color of IDF.
