CLUSTERS3 Conference: Powering innovation & building capacity
Silicon Valley: A state of mind
1. SVC2UK is a not-for profit series of
industry supported events led by
volunteers and run by students.
It is designed to improve the ecosystem
for entrepreneurship in the UK, Europe
and beyond and drive sustainable
growth.
3. “… celebrates and explores the symbiotic
relationship between universities and the private
sector – especially the “relationship of ideas”
that links academia with the sort of high-tech,
knowledge-intensive enterprises that form the
clusters of companies in Silicon Valley and
Cambridge.”
Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz,
Vice Chancellor University of Cambridge
4. “…is one of the most important inward investment events of the year,
bringing leading Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and investors together with
British technology companies to spark new connections and investments.”
David Cameron (Prime Minister)
●
5. " We accept and celebrate that 60% of what
students learn when they are at Harvard
Business School is learned outside of the
classroom"
Bill Sahlman, Professor of Entrepreneurship at
Harvard Business School
6. The University students who run the events are
attracted by the possibility of augmenting what
they learn in the classroom by running events
in the same way they may someday run a
business - albeit with a safety-net provided by
the volunteers who coach and mentor them.
7. The volunteers are parents at schools and
individuals from the tech community.
8. Those in the Technology Industry are keen to
‘give back’ and they believe that SVC2UK is a
powerful way to do so.
We think every one of our 200 volunteers are
heros.
9. Parents are keen to help contribute to the
school community that they and their children
are a part of and feel strongly that SVC2UK
is a powerful way to help children understand
why the study of STEM subjects is important
and what amazing careers one can pursue
afterwards.
10. School Leaders know how important
entrepreneurship is as a career, but they are
unsure of how to get access to the leading
entrepreneurs in the world
11. “First Mover Advantage doesn’t go to the first company that launches, it
goes to the first company that scales”
-Reid Hoffman (co-founder and co-chair of SVC2UK)
12. In 2012, we highlight our belief that the most promising areas of the UK
economy to create the next £10 billion pound companies are Medical
Technologies (MedTech) and Education Technologies (EdTech).
-Sherry Coutu & Reid Hoffman (co-founders and co-chairs of SVC2UK)
13. From one event in Oxford, to 30 events held all over the
world which inspire 6500 attendees
