Argumentative Essay On Korean War
Pre World War III: Korean War
In this seemingly peaceful world, the Korean Peninsula has been seen as one of the hottest potatoes in
the world. Many people do not acknowledge that the Korean War has not ended, but the event settled
with just an armistice since the tension of the war became so intense between not only two Koreans,
but other major countries such as Russia, China, and the United States. Even an armistice of the war,
there still remains severe tensions in the Korean Peninsula and because of this, questions like why
Korea has been the only divided country in the world and what has increased the tension between two
Koreans have been brought up to historians. And to the answers to the questions about the modern
Koreans is the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

aftermath of Douglas MacArthur, TV drama called M*A*S*H, and the fall of the Soviet Union. And it
was remarkable that this war was the first war for the United Nations after their unification. There is
no doubt that Korean War is influential to the both Koreas in the political side and economical side,
with their ongoing conflict between each other as it may create the World War III when the armistice

Civic Democracy
By threatening to change the composition of the receiving nation in a more profound manner, large
scale immigration inevitably raises the question of collective self identification: Who are we? and
What defines us? Even within stable liberal democracies, it is difficult to obtain a consistent answer to
these questions, although the responses likely influence who is allowed to enter a nation and how they
are perceived. Kohn (1944), Smith (1981, 1983, 1990), Castles and Miller (1993), and Shulman
(2002) have developed a perspective that defines societies, including their anticipated forms of
national identity, in terms of similar historical backgrounds. Reflecting the content of these shared
characteristics, three basic forms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Betz (1998: 8) argues that the electoral success of the radical right, anti immigrant parties reflects to a
large extent the psychological strain associated with uncertainties produced by large scale socio
economic and socio structural change. When negative economic and social trends appear at the
national level, some individuals respond by demanding more restrictive immigration policies
(McLaren 2003; Money 1997; Olzak 1992; Quillian 1995). National institutions often influence and
also are influenced by these negative reactions toward newcomers. Prominent opinion leaders, both in
the government and in the media, who oppose immigration and immigrants rights often condemn
immigrants for problems ranging from unemployment to waning public education. Their critics often
argue that while these social and economic problems may be real, placing the sole blame on
immigrants is a form of scapegoating. Although anti immigrant sentiments often coexist with
xenophobia, racism, and/or nativism, competition or the threat of economic competition can also
provoke negative attitudes towards immigrants (Bonacich 1972; Olzak 1992). This is often referred to
as ethnic competition theory. Some of the common economic rationales offered by individuals and
groups who oppose open borders and the immigrants who accompany them include job loss and wage
depression.

Descriptive Essay On Haunted House
My bus ride home came to a screeching halt. My bus driver is not a very good driver. I stepped, well
more like jumped down the steps of the school bus and I wish I could say I stuck the landing, but
sadly I didn t. I almost went head first into a tree, but I caught myself and played it off as I quickly got
my balance back and walked towards my house as if nothing had happened. I watched as the wind
blew through the tree branches, knocking even more warm colored leaves to the cold ground. I swear
these trees have an infinite amount of leaves to give to the autumn wind. I have always had a special
place in my heart for autumn. The food is amazing, the weather couldn t be better, and the hoodies,
don t get me started on hoodies. On top of all that, today is Halloween. On top of my grandma making
amazing food, every Halloween, my family gets together and works a haunted house my we build in
our backyard, as well as a graveyard in the front yard. After winding through the maze of tombstones I
walk up there stairs to my porch and into my front door and I instantly smell the abundance of chilli
that everyone in my family goes crazy about. Well everyone except me. I ve never really been a fan of
chilli, but there is plenty of other food I could gorge myself with. My personal favorite being candied
apples. Something about apples cooked in melted Cinnamon Red Hots just makes my my mouth

Within-Class Ability Grouping Essay
Within Class Ability Grouping
As a future educator ability grouping is more than likely going to be a part of my classroom. I think it
can and will be a valuable tool in effectively teaching all students of varying abilities. Ability grouping
is a greatly debated area in the field of education. Opponents to the practice believe ability grouping is
detrimental to learning and student self esteem, but ability grouping, specifically within class ability
grouping, can be very effective in teaching children. The students are able to learn at a pace that is
suitable to their individual abilities and teachers are able to construct lessons that are specifically
geared towards each level. Within class ability grouping necessitates flexibility ... Show more content

This involves assigning students within the classroom to small groups based on ability with each
group working on their own material according to their ability level. Within class grouping appears to
be a useful means to facilitate student learning (Lou, 451). The positive effects are slightly greater for
low achieving students than for average or high achievers (Hollifield). A child may have lower
abilities in one subject, but be more proficient in another; the child should be placed accordingly. For
example, an elementary child may be placed in a low ability group for reading and a high ability group
for mathematics, but for social studies, spelling, and science be with the entire class. This enables the
child to get needed help in the weaker area and extra stimulation in the stronger area while allowing
the child to interact with all of his peers in other subject areas. Many elementary schools use within
class grouping and it has been effective.
W. R. Borg, educational researcher and author, examined the consequences of grouping systems by
comparing two adjacent school systems, one using homogeneous (children of the same ability) groups,
the other using heterogeneous (children of varying ability) grouping. Borg s research concluded that
elementary level ability grouping provided the slower and average pupils with a better chance for
social recognition than did random grouping

Catecholamines and Cortisol Help to Fight Stress
When stress occurs, our bodies respond by releasing hormones that help our bodies deal with the
stress. Catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and cortisol are hormones that are major
players in the stress response (McCance Huether, 2010).
Catecholamines share some common physiologic actions with cortisol. Catecholamines and its
metabolic actions are similar to those of cortisol. Both catecholamines and cortisol cause an increase
in blood glucose through increased gluconeogenesis (McCance Huether, 2010). Gluconeogenesis is
the production of glucose when the activation of certain enzymes occur (McCance Huether, 2010).
Both epinephrine and cortisol also cause an increase in blood glucose by preventing cells in the body
from the uptake of glucose and decreasing the effects of insulin (Judd, n.d.). Catecholamines and
cortisol both cause an increase in cardiac output and an increase in blood pressure as well (McCance
Huether, 2010). Catecholamines do this by enhancing myocardial contractility, increasing heart rate,
and increasing the blood (venous) returning to the heart (McCance Huether, 2010). Cortisol aids in
this effect by increasing the amount of receptors that epinephrine and norepinephrine can attach to
(Judd, n.d.). Cortisol and catecholamines both cause lipolysis is some areas of the body. This occurs in
the extremities with cortisol, but most areas of the body with catecholamines (McCance Huether,
2010). Strangely enough, both

Lowell Mills Industry Analysis
Getting chosen to work in the Lowell Mills was a gift many young girls in the New England States
initially aspired to achieve. The Lowell Mills was a group of factories built in the 1820 s for the
manufacture of textiles (GilderLehrman.org, 2015). Increasing population numbers in the United
States required more goods made from cotton that required milling and weaving into useable products.
Expanding on roles women performed during the War of 1812 and wanting additional compensation
and recognition for their work, young girls left their families and went to work in one of these mills.
Enticing the girls with promises of tolerable working conditions, a formal education, and comfortable
living quarters, the owners of the factories were able to recruit the girls at a lesser wage than what was
paid to men (Tindall Shi, 2013). Eventually rapid growth and unfavorable working conditions led
others to question whether factory work was the proper work environment for young girls. ... Show

Young girls and women worked thirteen hour days, six days a week in extremely hazardous, unsafe
conditions (Tindall Shi, 2013). As the number of mills grew and competition increased, the Lowell
Mill workers were expected to work harder for lesser amounts of money and fewer benefits. Suffering
from less pay, harder work, and additional pay decreases, the Lowell Mill employees organized strikes
to combat the treatment they were receiving (Tindall Shi, 2013). Having to organize themselves to
protect the rights they had originally expected; a formal education, exposure to culture, and the
opportunity to use this information to enhance and improve their lives in the future, was lost when

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
There s nothing better than a comedy to lift your spirits up with baskets full of laughter. I like the idea
of comedies when there s a complete misunderstanding, trickery or when things go wrong. For
example in one of the episodes of My Wife and Kids when a girl called Claire tells her dad that there
will be photograph day in school. So she asks her dad for a massive photograph of her to put on the
wall. Her dad said no. On the day of the school photograph when she woke up, her right cheek was
swollen much bigger than the other. As persuaded by her parents she reluctantly went to school. When
Claire arrived home she said to her dad thanks for only buying a small picture of me otherwise it
would have been a total disaster seeing myself with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This trickery is later taken too far, causing Malvolio detrimental distress. Trickery is also displayed in
the duel between Sir Andrew and Cesario. Sir Toby s delight in practical jokes is once again illustrated
as he plans good sport between Sir Andrew and Cesario, but of course always the assumption that no
harm will be done and his arrangements will so fright them both that they will kill one another by the
look, like cockatrices . Sir Toby was right. When Sir Andrew and Cesario come face to face they are
so frightened that it takes some time for the duel to kick in .The duel is one of the high points of the
comedy. Equally absurd is the fact that the pretended duel is the fact that the pretended duel is fought
over Olivia who Cesario has rejected her love and Sir Andrew thinks he has a chance with Olivia that
he enters a duel on her behalf. Before the duel took place Cesario is worried Pray God defend me! A
little thing would make me tell them how much I lack of man Viola speaks in prose which shows how
worried and endanger of her true identity being discovered.
Shakespeare also applies the comic convention of looking foolish, which constructs one of Twelfth
Night s comedy highlights in Act 3 Scene 4 when Malvolio tries to impress Olivia and tries to impress
Olivia and follow out Olivia s command though yellow in my legs Olivia is baffled by

How Can Astrology And Horoscope Predictions Are Supposed...
Scientists examine how the world works by making observations, taking measurements, and testing
whether their ideas are supported by evidence. We pay attention to what is happening around us and
try to understand it. When we think we understand how two things relate to each other, we design an
experiment. In this paper, I m going to talk about whether astrology and horoscope predictions are
supposed to be accurate. There are a number of people in our society who put some faith in astrology.
Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial objects as a means for
divining information about human affairs and terrestrial events, and horoscope is based on the
Ptolemaic system that the earth is stationary, and moves around the sun in fixed patterns. Astrology
divides the sky into twelve sections, with the different sign of the zodiac based on the mythological
characteristics of the heavenly bodies (Aries, Leo, Aquarius, Cancer, Taurus, Virgo, Libra, Pisces,
Sagittarius, Capricorn, Gemini, and Scorpio). Some astrologers believe that time of birth, especially
the hours and minutes, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A common claim is that horoscopic astrology make the pre assumption that our mind is connected to
the universe and read important characteristics about a person. Therefore, astrologists believe that a
person s behavior, emotions, and fate were heavily influenced by the month of that person s birth.
Most people reads a prediction that something interesting would happen, they will looking forward for
that to happen, somehow they have a convenience then that event is on the way. By this cased, they
might think that the predicted of astrology was true. This may be a little harsh because horoscopes
might be of some value if they were usually right or pretty close even they are not quite perfect, but
you probably even know someone who has told you about how perfect their horoscope matched what
happened to them

1965 Election Elections
Discussion Due to the large inflow of immigrants into the U.S. as a result of the 1965 Immigration
Act, the U.S. has become a much more diverse country. As a result of increased exposure to foreign
cultural groups, as well as a shift towards more educated and skilled immigrants, Americans have
become more accepting of immigrants and hold much more favorable opinions towards immigrants
than they did before 1965. This change in attitudes towards immigrants was evident in the change in
campaigning techniques from the 1968 presidential campaign to the 2008 and 2012 presidential
campaigns. In 1968, the effects of the 1965 Immigration Act were not yet evident, as the new residents

Schwartz and Troianovski (2015), reporters for The Wall Street Journal, claim that many residents of
the U.S. fear that the terrorist group ISIS will exploit this expansion and use it to smuggle terrorists
into the U.S. Fears have especially heightened after the 2015 San Bernardino shooting. Although this
has not been confirmed to be the workings of a foreign terrorist group (Karimi, Shoichet, Ford, 2015),
American citizens are becoming increasingly in favor of restricting immigration. In a December 2015
survey conducted by the Associated Press, 53% of respondents opposed the Obama administration s
plan to admit Syrian refugees into the U.S. and 54% believed that the U.S. takes too many immigrants
from the Middle East (Swanson, 2015). While pro restriction attitudes may cause the number of
people immigrating to the U.S. each year outside of the refugee system to decrease, the increasing
number of Syrian refugees entering the U.S. in 2016 and 2017 will offset this. The number of
immigrants voting in future elections will increase as a result of the refugee crisis, so in the future,
presidential candidates should increase the amount of appeals and advertisements used in order to
encourage Syrian refugees and other immigrants to

Dual Language Argument Paper
We learned in our text that the development of language is a complicated process that involves
phonemes, morphemes, syntactic development among several other factors (Siegler, DeLoache,
Eisenberg Saffran, 2014, p. 218). Proper and effective development of these language skills has been
shown to have a critical learning period that enables successful fluency of a language; this period
usually occurs between the ages of 5 and puberty (Siegler et al., 2014, p. 220). I believe that this
critical period is the backbone of the argument against bilingual education. Proponents of this
argument believe that the sooner a child is immersed in the new language, the better off they will be
with regards to mechanics and use of that language.
The problem with this argument, as our text points out, is that modern research does not support this
way of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This model supports the use of both the native language and the new language within the daily
teaching curriculum (Ray, 2008). The No Child Left Behind Act threatens the Dual Language method
and negatively impacts bilingual education because of the high degree of emphasis that is placed on
standardized testing. The weight of standardized testing that is felt from the state all the way down to
the classroom level has forced curriculum to focus on the passing of these tests. Because bilingual
students must take the standardized test in English, this has caused a shift in the landscape of bilingual
education. Teachers of bilingual students are abandoning the DL method in favor of a more English
only environment as a means to help students pass standardized tests (Ray, 2008). This negates the
purpose of bilingual education and decreases the benefits that these students receive while learning in
a dual language

After Filing for Divorce Chelsea Rathburn s After Filing for Divorce compares the emotions that the

The Investigation Of Vanadium s Redox States
The Investigation of Vanadium s Redox States
Justin Fick
Objective
The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the chemical reactions involved with oxovanadium
ions VO3 and VO2+ to help determine the standard electrode potential for the reaction: VO3− + 4H+
+ e− →VO2+ +2H2O. This procedure helped determine the theoretical Eocell.
Introduction
Vanadium is a transition metal which was explored by Andres Manuel del Rio during 1801 in Mexico.
Vanadium has been cited to be present in over sixty various minerals such as the ore of lead and
vanadium, vanadinite.1 Vanadium is most present in the uranium ores in the United States, where is
commonly found in the presence of sandstones. Vanadium is also settled in coal deposits that are rich

In transition metals the oxidation states can be distinguished by the color they give off due to the
ability for the metal complex to absorb visible light. Common vanadium metal complexes are VO3−
and VO2+ which have oxidation states of V5+ and V4+. Vanadium is able to oxidize and reduce from
each metal complex due to redox reactions with certain chemicals.3 The various oxidations can be
distinguished by their specific given colors yellow (VO3 ) and blue (VO2+). The process in which the
metal complexes oxidize/reduce to each other is through a one step redox reaction1.
VO3− + 4H+ + e− →VO2+ +2H2O (1)
Experimental Procedure
Reduction of VO3
Seven test tubes were labeled numerically with 2 mL of VO3 and H2SO42 added to each tube. A small
pea size portion of solid Na2SO3 was added to the first test tube. Then, 20 drops of distilled water
were added to the second test tube. In the third test tube, 20 drops of (.2 M) NaBr were added. Then,
to drops of (.2 M) NaNO2 were added into the fourth test tube. A small portion of Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2 *
6H2O was added into the fifth test tube. The sixth test tube had 20 drops of (.2 M) H2Cr2O4 added,
where the seventh test tube was the control tube with no additional chemicals added. All the test tubes

Flipped Advising Model Analysis
Introduction
The aim of this paper is to propose a shift towards a flipped advising model in order to complement
the traditional advising approach in higher education institutions. The flipped advising model could
easily be incorporated into the existing learning management system (LMS) to provide students with
up to date and timely resources (Steele, 2016). This proposed shift could improve students academic
performance while giving them plenty of time to plan their courses in advance (Waldner, McDaniel
Widener, 2011). Flipped advising approach maintains high quality resources that are accessible to the
students 24/7 and give them freedom to learn at their own pace (Al Omary, 2010; Waldner, McDaniel
Widener, 2011). A study conducted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Academic advisors are required to receive adequate training opportunities to be able to effectively and
efficiently use this model to foster student success (Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011). Additional
limitations are such as up front investment of time to build the advising shell or other on demand
resources (Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011). Technical issues such as slow download feeds caused
by poor Internet infrastructure, firewall protections that block some of these communication programs,
simple power or internet disruptions, etc. could also hinder the productivity of the flipped advising
model (Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011). Finally, it is important to evaluate the usability of the
flipped advising model in order to identify the benefits and/or constrain allied with the student
success; however, the questions are how to assess, which assessment tools to use, who will be
responsible for the creation of the assessment tools, etc. (Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011).
Therefore, academic leaders should resolve these issues before fostering the flipped advising model.
Conclusion
The aim of this proposal paper was to examine flipped advising model to identify how this model
would improve students success. As a result, both advantages and limitations of flipped advising
model were investigated to understand how to overcome these issues in order to successful integrate
this model into the institutions

Cyworld Marketing Case Analysis
Cyworld Case Analysis
Market Segmentation Cyworld s market can be segmented many different ways using various factors
to create the segments. Cyworld can demographically segment its market using statistics such as age,
sex, and country. This can be done by breaking down Cyworld s users based on male/female, current
country of residence, and then further grouping the users into age categories of 13 18 years old, 19 29
years old, 30 39 years old, etc. Cyworld can gain information on its market by further segmenting its
users based on specific aspects of the website, such as activity level, purchases, and the amount of

Cyworld is an active user. An active user is a Cyworld member that signs in to his/her profile on a
consistent basis, multiple times per week. This type of user creates the most opportunities for Cyworld
to produce income in various ways. Active users are the ones who engage more with the system, who
are more likely to interact with advertising, who are more likely to spend money on virtual goods and
currency (O Sullivan, 2011). A user who spends a lot of money on Cyworld is valuable, but their value
to Cyworld is limited to only the purchase of items. If purchasing items goes out of style and becomes
an infrequent occurrence, this type of user brings about little value to the website. A user with a lot of
connections, or a member that has a lot of virtual relationships with other members, comes in at a
close second in terms of value brought to Cyworld. This type of user brings about a higher possibility
of purchasing items for their various connections, as described previously, but just because a Cyworld
user has a lot of connections does not mean that he/she actively uses the website. A user with a lot of
connections that never, or rarely, signs into Cyworld contributes little value to the website. High user
activity levels allow Cyworld

How Did Gage Contribute To The American Revolution
During the American Revolution many people contributed to the fight against the colonists. Among
these people was Thomas Gage a British general. Who is best known for his years of service in North

Being that Bismark Bock is the primary issue concerning profit for SDM it would be most important
to target and lower costs pertaining to that line. The biggest expense for the bock is shipping
($150.48), which is based on number of orders (18). If the company consolidated shipping by half the
orders instead of shipping each order separately, they could reduce orders to 9, which would make the
shipping cost $75.24. This minor change would be huge for SDM because it would change their
current loss to a gain of $35.74 per batch. The company could also explore automating some of their
processes to decrease labor hours, which would bring down overall overhead costs or finding new
suppliers for cheaper ingredients, which would decrease the direct materials cost.
5. Regardless of the allocation system used, the total net income for the year will not change because
the overall manufacturing overhead cost does not change. However, it is important to use a more
accurate allocation method because it allows company s to make decisions based on specific areas that
might be driving costs up that may not show up when costs are allocated based on one driver.

Hunter Gatherers Research Paper
Inquiry 2 The Hunter Gatherer
Until around the year of 10 000 BCE all of our ancestors were only hunter gatherers. Hunter gatherers,
were people who hunted for all things, in order to survive, ranging from animal meat, their skin, nuts,
fruits and much, much more. When the food on their living area became smaller in quantity and out of
season, they would move onto different territory. Our ancestors of hunter gatherers were reported to of
lived a very successful lifestyle for more than 100 000 years.
Some historians have a theory of their own, this is that the change in a hunter gatherers lifestyle to
having a settled life of farming was one of the worst mistakes humans had ever made in history.

I Too And Caged Bird Comparison
I, Too and Caged Bird , two amazing poems by two amazing authors, both share a theme of hope for
freedom. In Caged Bird by Maya Angelou, she writes about two birds. One being able to fly freely and
another stuck in a cage unable to do what it wants. Even with his wings clipped and feet tied, the
caged bird still sings of freedom. I, Too by Langston Hughes is very similar. In this poem a boy, the
darker brother, is always sent to the kitchen to eat when company arrives. Even though he is
constantly being hidden, the boy knows that by doing so he will grow strong, become beautiful and
they will be ashamed for sending him away. Obviously, the free bird is blessed with freedom but the
caged bird and the boy both can only sing of it. Imagery

The Most Notable Irish Politicians Of The 19th Century And...
John Dillon is one of the most notable Irish politicians of the later 19th century and early 20th century.
He was an avid home rule advocate, a leader in the Irish Parliamentary Party, and a devout follower of
Charles Parnell. He was jailed several times for his political activity within the home rule cause. In
May of 1881, he wrote this letter out of Kilmainham Gaol, where he was imprisoned. One of the first
notable things seen is the actual stationary, which is has black edges. Black edged stationery was
mostly used for mourning stationary during the Victorian era. It was used when a family member died.
Dillon s sister Christina had died from tuberculosis in December 1880, prompting him to use the black
edge stationary. Dillon wrote the letter in Kilmainham Gaol, located in Dublin. It was opened in 1796,
and was used to house political prisoners, as well as others. Notable prisoners held here were Dillon,
Dillon s mentor Charles Stewart Parnell, Robert Emmet, The Invincibles, along with other Home Rule
advocates and independence seekers. It was abandoned in 1924 due to aging infrastructure. Interest in
its refurbishment began in 1966. Today, the gaol serves as a museum open to the public, operated by
the Irish Office of Public Works.
The letter was written on of May 30th, 1881, and was addressed to Cowen. This can be presumed to
be Joseph Cowen, who was an English member of Parliament for Newcastle upon Tyne from 1874
until 1886. Cowen was a member of the Liberal Party,

The Violent Myth Of Appalachia Essay
Brooks 3
THE VIOILENT MYTH OF APPALACHIA
ENGL 330
Appalachian Literature

the violent myth of appalachia
Appalachia may be the most misconceived region in the United States. To many Americans,
Appalachia has been thought of as a poverty stricken, backwards, violent region, and to some it still is
perceived as such. Often it has been labeled with titles such as hillbilly, redneck, moonshiner, and
feudists. Appalachia?s residents are seen as lazy, non trusting, drunk, illiterate, and in need of a savior
to pull them out of the darkness into the light. This research paper will seek to challenge the myth of a
violent Appalachia by describing documented proof that violence in Appalachia is not, as most
thought, a product of its geographical location, or because its people are isolated. Violence in
Appalachia was, just as in other areas of America, a result of tensions and frustration that was deep
seeded in the fabric of all American society.
To understand the concepts of violence in Appalachia, it is imperative to explain how Appalachia is
defined. The Appalachian Region, as defined in ARC s authorizing legislation, is a 205,000 square
mile region that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains from southern New York to northern
Mississippi. It includes all West Virginia and parts of 12 other states: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky,
Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina,

Underage Drinking
Underage Drinking Introduction Underage drinking has long been, and continues to be, a serious
public health concern. Teen alcohol use kills more than 4700 people each year and high school
students who use alcohol or other drugs are five times more likely to drop out of school (MADD,
2014) than kids who do not. There have been years of underage drinking prevention programs to
curtail the use of alcohol by those under 21 years of age and yet alcohol is the most widely used drug
by adolescents in the United States (Wagoner et al. 2012). Underage drinking is a real problem in all

2012). Because of the growing issue of parents supplying alcohol to minors, 35 of 50 states currently
have Social Host laws in effect. This means if an adult is supplying minors with alcohol in their home,
they can be arrested and charged. These laws are an attempt to decrease the number of adults hosting
underage parties and supplying alcohol to minors (Wagoner et al. 2012). In addition to social host
laws, laws concerning restricted licenses for teens and limiting teen driving at night seem to have had
an impact on underage drinking. Additionally, license suspension laws for alcohol violations are
making kids think twice before they consume alcohol and drive (Hingson, 2014). Yet underage
drinking remains a nationwide concern and must continue to be addressed. Methodology This study

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is referred to it by many names: bring your own danger, bring your

commonplace in all sectors across the world. What used to be unthinkable, using one s own personal
mobile device or smartphone for work is now emerging as one of the biggest technology trends of this
decade. The idea of using a personal device at work developed when many executives got their first

The issue is two fold, one being that IT departments have lost the ability to fully manage devices that
connect to the company s network, but also employees are now demanding that they have the ability
to conduct company business and have access to extremely secure company resources from multiple
personal devices. Obviously this hasn t gone over very well from the IT perspective. Initially IT
departments were very resistant to change taking into consideration the huge security risk allowing
these devices onto the network presents, however more and more departments are beginning to adopt
these new practices, but at the same time are still very hesitant because they remained very concerned
about the inherent risks of permitting personal devices to access and store sensitive corporate data.
The timeline outlined below gives an excellent graphical representation of where BYOD started in the

Censorship In The Social Media Age
Censorship that has been in the world and in the United States, since the fifteenth century, has grown
sufficiently. Since many years have past subsequently film, radio, and different platforms of social
media have all been censored because more and more technology is not appropriate for kids. Although
many people think that censorship has changed the media platforms, it s actually the other way
around. Media platforms have changed censorship throughout the years by switching up social media,
news, government, and privacy concepts.
Social media has shaped censorship over the years by introducing new applications to our phones and
computers. One event that has shaped it was in 2016, when Dan Ilic s video was taken down from a
social media site a few second after Mr. Ilic posted it, the video had already been on that same social

Comparison Of Horror Fiction And The Black Cat
To begin , one must understand what the aspect of horror fiction is. Horror fiction to my understanding
is a type of writing that propel certain emotions onto a reader. It more commonly is a piece of writing
that offers the reader the feelings of shock , fear or some form of anxiety. It has been seen that quite
frankly horror stories offer similarities in the forms of brutality, charters turning from that of being
stable to loosing their sanity and lastly being provided with death of a creature, however later finding
out they are in a way still alive. Horror fiction again offers suspense, fear, anxiety and importantly
shock . Poe a writer of horror fiction offers all of these qualities in his short story The Black Cat. Poe

The reader is subject to feelings of fear, anxiety and shock. Also horror genres generally anticipates
the characters psychology. It shows how the person can go from a stable individual to loosing all
sanity which was also a characteristic offered in The Black Cat. While The Black Cat offers the
psychology of the unknown man we are also offered this particular element in Poe s The Tell Tale
Heart. One can see signs of deterioration of the narrator. He continually lets it be known that he is fine
and has no symptoms of anger however his actions state other wise. The narrator also suggest that no
feelings of remorse or guilt can be noted almost as if no wrong has been done. The narrator is going
through a downward spiral of psychological matters which is an element offered on horror fiction as
this allows the reader to achieve those emotions of anxiety, fear and again suspense. Poe offers almost
all elements of horror throughout his short stories without the gore and brutality which ultimately
makes him a phenomenal writer. Poe is more in tune with allowing the reader to accomplish emotion
while allowing them the reader to get a sense of who they are in terms of what frightens them and

Suicide In Dido s Lament By Mark Morris
Dido s Lament , choreographed by Mark Morris, is an emotional dance theatre piece that illustrates
the tale of Queen Dido, a character from the opera Dido and Aeneas, who prepares to commit suicide
after feeling betrayed by Aeneas, a man with whom she fell in love with. Because the character that
Morris is portraying is preparing to commit suicide due to being heartbroken, Morris wanted to
translate this tragic and moving concept of suicide through not only his movement phrases, but
through the dark setting created onstage by the performers as well. As the title suggests, the word
lament , as well as the concept of suicide and despair, were the main elements on which Morris built
the dance piece on. Through the dark ambiance and slow, dramatic movements onstage, Morris
expresses to the audience through story how emotional grief, inner conflict, and sadness are.
Mark Morris formed the Mark Morris Dance Group in 1980, and was famous for the power of his
dancing and the musicality he chose to utilize with his performances, while still being graceful and

Reflection Paper On Conformity
Between working at an after school program, being a teacher s assistant in a preschool classroom,
babysitting, and working in a sunday school classroom, I have a lot of experience with children and
their behaviors. To study conformity, I chose to observe the preschool classroom that I am a teacher s
assistant for. The classroom alternates children every other day, so my group for this project was the
Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday group. The class usually has about four girls and two
boys. Overall, the children are very respectful, fun, and eager to learn. Over the course of one class
period, I participate in a few different activities with the children. First, we stop at the bathrooms
before breakfast. Being as far into the school year as we are, the class knows what is expected of them
and what the schedule is. However, they do space out quite often. If a teacher is not standing by the
bathroom door watching them wash their hands, then there is a good chance they will play in the sink.
Once I or another teacher says their name or reminds them to hurry up, then they go back to following
the rules. The children are obedient because they have respect for teachers and because they do not
want a punishment. Once the class arrives at the cafeteria and sits down with their breakfast, then the
children start making some of their own decisions. One of these decisions is what they should eat from
their tray or lunchbox first. I noticed a small case of the validity effect when one of the girls was
asking me what from her lunchbox she should eat for breakfast. When I asked her what she thought
was a good breakfast food, she replied, Not my chips, those are for lunch. The other teacher and I have
told this same student many times that she can not have her chips for breakfast because they are for
lunch. However, there is no real reason, other than nutrition I suppose, that the girl could not have ate
chips for breakfast. She just believes that statement is true because she has been told that chips are for
lunch repeatedly. Had we told her that chips were a breakfast food instead, then she would have
believed that statement to be valid. After breakfast, the group heads back to the classroom. Children

Whole Milk Vs Dairy Milk
Dairy milk has long been a staple of The American home throughout the years, and rightfully so.
Versus it s alternative counterparts, standard whole cow s milk is a singular natural source for many of
the body s needed nutrients. These nutrients are needed for the developing body in young children, as
well offering several benefits and enhancing performance in many athletes. Dairy alternatives do not
achieve this same offering on their own and must be enriched.
Milk is a very important source of essential vitamins and minerals. According to The Southeast Dairy
Association, just one 8 ounce serving of whole milk contains 8 grams of protein. (southeastdairy.org)

Dr. Deborah Goldman, assistant professor in the University of Minnesota s Department of Pediatric
Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, states that whole milk is vital to brain development.
Whole milk supports neuron formation and other major brain growth and development.

calcium also supports muscle contraction, which is important for heart health. Riboflavin is vital for
body growth, red cell production, and metabolism. This combination of nutrients alone is essential for
healthy child growth.
Another value of milk is that of its natural benefits for athletes. Chocolate Milk offers much more that
simple water post exercise. Drinking plain water after exercise replaces water and that s it, states Kelly
L. Phillips in her Fitness Magazine article, Got Milk? Try Chocolate After Your Workout. Versus water
and most sports drinks, and even plain milk, chocolate milk more carbohydrates and protein, which is
crucial for replenishing tired muscles. Value like this would be most beneficial to endurance athletes

Persuasive Essay On Animal Welfare
Animal shelters are overflowing, some euthanizing dogs just because they no longer have the
resources to care for these animals, yet people are still buying their dogs from the pet store. When
getting a new dog, adopt it from the animal shelter rather than buying it from a pet store.
Everyone wants to have a cute cuddly family dog, however, they are not willing to put in the time and
energy into properly training their animals so they either leave them on the side of the road, or take
them to animal shelters. According to ASPCA 3.3 million dogs enter animal shelters each year. each.
year. Yet people are still against shelter dogs because of some bad dogs. This high number causes
some animal shelters to reach max capacity and not be able to fully provide for these animals so many
are euthanized just to make more room for more abandoned animals. A total of 670,000 dogs
euthanized each year, yet individuals still continue to support puppy mills by buying puppies from the
pet store. When getting your new puppy from the pet store, it is important that you understand what
environment they were raised in. Individuals who buy their dogs from pet stores, are supporting puppy
mills. Puppy mills are: unsanitary, unethical, and worst of all, completely legal. ASPCA outlines the
Animal Welfare Act in theory protects these animals from mistreatment in these commercial breeding
facilities, however, these laws are hard to enforce. The Animal Welfare Act covers licensing, standards

Extracurricular Activities Essay
Extracurricular Activities
Research was performed on the claim of fact that students involved in extracurricular activities receive
higher grades than those not involved in activities. This topic was studied because high school budgets
are meager, and the administrations of these schools want to spend the money efficiently.
Consequently, funding for extracurricular activities may be decreased. This report examines the
correlation between extracurricular activities and academic performance.

The first paper entitled High School Extracurricular Activities and College Grades by Mary Rombokas
studies the relationship between high academic marks and involvement in extracurricular activities.
This article includes a survey performed by Rombokas on this subject. The second article referenced
was Student Perceptions of the Intercollegiate Athletic Program at a Community College by Judith S.
Berson. This is a study on how participating on a collegiate level softball team affected the team
members grades.
Key Points
The key points that will be made in this claim of fact are that students involved in extracurricular
activities receive better grades than those who are not involved in extracurricular activities. In
addition, activities improve the overall student. Therefore, they help students to receive better grades
by teaching them character building lessons, teaching them lifelong skills, saving some at risk students
who would possibly drop out of school, and helping students develop social skills.
Academics
Mary Rombokas performed a study of college aged students who were involved in extracurricular
activities in high school to discover if there was in fact a correlation between involvement in activities
and academic achievement. She concluded after questioning two hundred ninety two college

Substandard Materials Used In RMS Titanic
DRAFT 2
1.0 Rivets
The substandard material and the error in the placement of different type of rivets in RMS Titanic hull
lead to the catastrophic event. In RMS Titanic over 3 million rivets of iron and steel were used to hold
the about a million of one inch thick iron plates of the ship hull. This section will introduce us to the
rivets, its types and working. A rivet is a permanent mechanical fastener which is used to hold together
the two plates. Figure 1: Rivets (Before Installation)
As shown in figure: 1, before being installed, a rivet consists of two distinct parts a cylindrical shaft
and a hat/head on the one end. The cylindrical part of the rivet is called tail of rivet as shown in the
figure 1. The rivets are used to hold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rivet B and D are the split rivets and rivets C and E are solid tail rivets. Both the split and solid rivets
have different uses in the industry. 1.3 Material of Rivets Depending on the type of material used for
the manufacturing of rivet we can have wide range of rivets. During the early 1900 s the Iron rivets
were getting replaced by the more durable and ductile steel rivets. In Titanic both steel and iron rivets
were used at different places of the hull. Now days, Recent materials like Aluminium and Carbon
Fibers are used by the rivet manufacturers due to the high performance level and they are easy to
mould for the attractive looks as compared to the steel and iron.
In the conclusion, RMS Titanic used round headed solid rivets of iron and steel in the different
locations of ship hull which were installed manually and some were hydraulically driven at different
locations. The substandard material and the error in the placement of different type of rivets is the root
cause of sinking of RMS Titanic after it hit the iceberg its hull collapsed and led to this disaster.

The French Revolution And The Haitian Revolution
In 1789, locations across the globe were affected by the French Revolution. This was a revolt initiated
by the people that would change France forevermore, but it also changed Haiti. Unexpectedly, the
French Revolution had a significant influence on the Haitian Revolution, a major slave revolt where
slaves forcefully took their freedom for the first time in history. The French Revolution impacted the
Haitian Revolution by changing the mindsets of the people, inspiring the Haitian Constitution, and
initiating the final phase. Before analyzing the significance of the Haitian Revolution, one should
understand the background and history of the island. Saint Domingue also known as Haiti is the
western half of the Caribbean island Hispaniola. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite living and looking like grand blancs, they were mistreated. Last came slaves. Now that the
social classes have been explained, the Haitian Revolution and its relationship with the French one can
be better understood. One way the French Revolution impacted the Haitian Revolution was by
changing the mindsets of the Haitians in all social classes. The events occurring in France opened the
Haitians eyes to a point where slaves weren t the only ones in Haiti who wanted a change, but thanks
to the French Revolution, everyone was angry. To begin with, the grand blancs wanted to terminate
their trade agreement with France so they could sell to the highest bidder and keep the money they
earned. Like the members of the Third Estate, they didn t want to be controlled by the weak and
tyrannical French monarchy. Speaking of the Third Estate, they might have been located in France, but
the petit blancs still associated themselves with them, which is logical, as they were poor working
classmen. These blancs were inspired by the citizens in France and their determination, as well as their
desire for acquiring the rights they felt they deserved. Nevertheless, they turned to violent measures
and began attacking the grand blancs. The petit blancs weren t the only ones who wanted to be treated
equally to the grand blancs; the gens de couleur had a yearning for this as well. Although they had

Toxocariasis Research Paper
Toxocariasis is one of the most unappreciated parasitic diseases in which millions of people in the
United States are exposed to unknowingly on a daily basis. The disease is caused by accidental
transmission of roundworms from the GI tract of canines and felines, Toxocara cani and Toxocara cati,
to humans with children being the most likely to become infected causing blindness, organ failure, and
even death. Often, the people who at the greatest risk are children who become infected by playing in
parks, sandboxes, and in their own household particularly if their family owns a cat or dog (Lee,
Moore, Bottazzi, Hotez). A large national sample among people ≥6 years of age conducted in 1988
through 1994 revealed that 14% had Toxocara antibodies, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One observational study of more than 100 children with visceral or ocular toxocariasis, and treated
with a variety of either mebendazole or albendazole regimens, showed that most treated children had a
decrease in Toxocara antibodies and improvement of symptoms, but no conclusions could be drawn
about optimal regimen (Woodhall, Fiore). However, using Albendazole or Mebendazole causes killing
of the parasite which causes a secondary reaction of severe inflammation. A secondary treatment of
corticosteroids is usually followed to target severe allergic reactions of anti inflammatory properties
due to the body s strong autoimmune response to the parasite (Despommier). An alternative treatment,
diethylcarbamazine, is available in many countries around the world, but since the drug has been
shown to have greater negative effects, treatment is currently unavailable in the United States
(Woodhall, Fiore). Progress for a cure remains slow due to the low numbers of infected patients and
the late diagnosis of the disease in which many cases it past the point of effective medical treatment to
save the patient from permanent damage. The best current treatment for toxocariasis is prevention by
keeping updated on pets vaccinations and following proper hygiene protocols especially for children

  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Korean War Pre World War III: Korean War In this seemingly peaceful world, the Korean Peninsula has been seen as one of the hottest potatoes in the world. Many people do not acknowledge that the Korean War has not ended, but the event settled with just an armistice since the tension of the war became so intense between not only two Koreans, but other major countries such as Russia, China, and the United States. Even an armistice of the war, there still remains severe tensions in the Korean Peninsula and because of this, questions like why Korea has been the only divided country in the world and what has increased the tension between two Koreans have been brought up to historians. And to the answers to the questions about the modern Koreans is the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Still, there were significance of this war that affected in our modern history like the North Korea, aftermath of Douglas MacArthur, TV drama called M*A*S*H, and the fall of the Soviet Union. • 4. Civic Democracy By threatening to change the composition of the receiving nation in a more profound manner, large scale immigration inevitably raises the question of collective self identification: Who are we? and What defines us? Even within stable liberal democracies, it is difficult to obtain a consistent answer to these questions, although the responses likely influence who is allowed to enter a nation and how they are perceived. Kohn (1944), Smith (1981, 1983, 1990), Castles and Miller (1993), and Shulman (2002) have developed a perspective that defines societies, including their anticipated forms of national identity, in terms of similar historical backgrounds. Reflecting the content of these shared characteristics, three basic forms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Betz (1998: 8) argues that the electoral success of the radical right, anti immigrant parties reflects to a large extent the psychological strain associated with uncertainties produced by large scale socio economic and socio structural change. When negative economic and social trends appear at the national level, some individuals respond by demanding more restrictive immigration policies (McLaren 2003; Money 1997; Olzak 1992; Quillian 1995). National institutions often influence and also are influenced by these negative reactions toward newcomers. Prominent opinion leaders, both in the government and in the media, who oppose immigration and immigrants rights often condemn immigrants for problems ranging from unemployment to waning public education. Their critics often argue that while these social and economic problems may be real, placing the sole blame on immigrants is a form of scapegoating. Although anti immigrant sentiments often coexist with xenophobia, racism, and/or nativism, competition or the threat of economic competition can also provoke negative attitudes towards immigrants (Bonacich 1972; Olzak 1992). This is often referred to as ethnic competition theory. Some of the common economic rationales offered by individuals and groups who oppose open borders and the immigrants who accompany them include job loss and wage depression. ... • 5. Descriptive Essay On Haunted House My bus ride home came to a screeching halt. My bus driver is not a very good driver. I stepped, well more like jumped down the steps of the school bus and I wish I could say I stuck the landing, but sadly I didn t. I almost went head first into a tree, but I caught myself and played it off as I quickly got my balance back and walked towards my house as if nothing had happened. I watched as the wind blew through the tree branches, knocking even more warm colored leaves to the cold ground. I swear these trees have an infinite amount of leaves to give to the autumn wind. I have always had a special place in my heart for autumn. The food is amazing, the weather couldn t be better, and the hoodies, don t get me started on hoodies. On top of all that, today is Halloween. On top of my grandma making amazing food, every Halloween, my family gets together and works a haunted house my we build in our backyard, as well as a graveyard in the front yard. After winding through the maze of tombstones I walk up there stairs to my porch and into my front door and I instantly smell the abundance of chilli that everyone in my family goes crazy about. Well everyone except me. I ve never really been a fan of chilli, but there is plenty of other food I could gorge myself with. My personal favorite being candied apples. Something about apples cooked in melted Cinnamon Red Hots just makes my my mouth water. I hung up my backpack and walked into my kitchen very happy. My grandma was sitting in her ... • 6. Within-Class Ability Grouping Essay Within Class Ability Grouping As a future educator ability grouping is more than likely going to be a part of my classroom. I think it can and will be a valuable tool in effectively teaching all students of varying abilities. Ability grouping is a greatly debated area in the field of education. Opponents to the practice believe ability grouping is detrimental to learning and student self esteem, but ability grouping, specifically within class ability grouping, can be very effective in teaching children. The students are able to learn at a pace that is suitable to their individual abilities and teachers are able to construct lessons that are specifically geared towards each level. Within class ability grouping necessitates flexibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This involves assigning students within the classroom to small groups based on ability with each group working on their own material according to their ability level. Within class grouping appears to be a useful means to facilitate student learning (Lou, 451). The positive effects are slightly greater for low achieving students than for average or high achievers (Hollifield). A child may have lower abilities in one subject, but be more proficient in another; the child should be placed accordingly. For example, an elementary child may be placed in a low ability group for reading and a high ability group for mathematics, but for social studies, spelling, and science be with the entire class. This enables the child to get needed help in the weaker area and extra stimulation in the stronger area while allowing the child to interact with all of his peers in other subject areas. Many elementary schools use within class grouping and it has been effective. W. R. Borg, educational researcher and author, examined the consequences of grouping systems by comparing two adjacent school systems, one using homogeneous (children of the same ability) groups, the other using heterogeneous (children of varying ability) grouping. Borg s research concluded that elementary level ability grouping provided the slower and average pupils with a better chance for social recognition than did random grouping ... • 7. Catecholamines and Cortisol Help to Fight Stress When stress occurs, our bodies respond by releasing hormones that help our bodies deal with the stress. Catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and cortisol are hormones that are major players in the stress response (McCance Huether, 2010). Catecholamines share some common physiologic actions with cortisol. Catecholamines and its metabolic actions are similar to those of cortisol. Both catecholamines and cortisol cause an increase in blood glucose through increased gluconeogenesis (McCance Huether, 2010). Gluconeogenesis is the production of glucose when the activation of certain enzymes occur (McCance Huether, 2010). Both epinephrine and cortisol also cause an increase in blood glucose by preventing cells in the body from the uptake of glucose and decreasing the effects of insulin (Judd, n.d.). Catecholamines and cortisol both cause an increase in cardiac output and an increase in blood pressure as well (McCance Huether, 2010). Catecholamines do this by enhancing myocardial contractility, increasing heart rate, and increasing the blood (venous) returning to the heart (McCance Huether, 2010). Cortisol aids in this effect by increasing the amount of receptors that epinephrine and norepinephrine can attach to (Judd, n.d.). Cortisol and catecholamines both cause lipolysis is some areas of the body. This occurs in the extremities with cortisol, but most areas of the body with catecholamines (McCance Huether, 2010). • 8. Lowell Mills Industry Analysis Getting chosen to work in the Lowell Mills was a gift many young girls in the New England States initially aspired to achieve. The Lowell Mills was a group of factories built in the 1820 s for the manufacture of textiles (GilderLehrman.org, 2015). Increasing population numbers in the United States required more goods made from cotton that required milling and weaving into useable products. Expanding on roles women performed during the War of 1812 and wanting additional compensation and recognition for their work, young girls left their families and went to work in one of these mills. Enticing the girls with promises of tolerable working conditions, a formal education, and comfortable living quarters, the owners of the factories were able to recruit the girls at a lesser wage than what was paid to men (Tindall Shi, 2013). Eventually rapid growth and unfavorable working conditions led others to question whether factory work was the proper work environment for young girls. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suffering from less pay, harder work, and additional pay decreases, the Lowell Mill employees organized strikes to combat the treatment they were receiving (Tindall Shi, 2013). • 9. Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare There s nothing better than a comedy to lift your spirits up with baskets full of laughter. I like the idea of comedies when there s a complete misunderstanding, trickery or when things go wrong. For example in one of the episodes of My Wife and Kids when a girl called Claire tells her dad that there will be photograph day in school. So she asks her dad for a massive photograph of her to put on the wall. Her dad said no. On the day of the school photograph when she woke up, her right cheek was swollen much bigger than the other. As persuaded by her parents she reluctantly went to school. This trickery is later taken too far, causing Malvolio detrimental distress. Trickery is also displayed in the duel between Sir Andrew and Cesario. Sir Toby s delight in practical jokes is once again illustrated as he plans good sport between Sir Andrew and Cesario, but of course always the assumption that no harm will be done and his arrangements will so fright them both that they will kill one another by the look, like cockatrices . Sir Toby was right. When Sir Andrew and Cesario come face to face they are so frightened that it takes some time for the duel to kick in .The duel is one of the high points of the comedy. Equally absurd is the fact that the pretended duel is the fact that the pretended duel is fought over Olivia who Cesario has rejected her love and Sir Andrew thinks he has a chance with Olivia that he enters a duel on her behalf. Before the duel took place Cesario is worried Pray God defend me! A little thing would make me tell them how much I lack of man Viola speaks in prose which shows how worried and endanger of her true identity being discovered. • 10. How Can Astrology And Horoscope Predictions Are Supposed... Scientists examine how the world works by making observations, taking measurements, and testing whether their ideas are supported by evidence. We pay attention to what is happening around us and try to understand it. When we think we understand how two things relate to each other, we design an experiment. In this paper, I m going to talk about whether astrology and horoscope predictions are supposed to be accurate. There are a number of people in our society who put some faith in astrology. Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial objects as a means for divining information about human affairs and terrestrial events, and horoscope is based on the Ptolemaic system that the earth is stationary, and moves around the sun in fixed patterns. Astrology divides the sky into twelve sections, with the different sign of the zodiac based on the mythological characteristics of the heavenly bodies (Aries, Leo, Aquarius, Cancer, Taurus, Virgo, Libra, Pisces, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Gemini, and Scorpio). Some astrologers believe that time of birth, especially the hours and minutes, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A common claim is that horoscopic astrology make the pre assumption that our mind is connected to the universe and read important characteristics about a person. Therefore, astrologists believe that a person s behavior, emotions, and fate were heavily influenced by the month of that person s birth. Most people reads a prediction that something interesting would happen, they will looking forward for that to happen, somehow they have a convenience then that event is on the way. By this cased, they might think that the predicted of astrology was true. This may be a little harsh because horoscopes might be of some value if they were usually right or pretty close even they are not quite perfect, but you probably even know someone who has told you about how perfect their horoscope matched what happened to them ... • 11. 1965 Election Elections Discussion Due to the large inflow of immigrants into the U.S. as a result of the 1965 Immigration Act, the U.S. has become a much more diverse country. As a result of increased exposure to foreign cultural groups, as well as a shift towards more educated and skilled immigrants, Americans have become more accepting of immigrants and hold much more favorable opinions towards immigrants than they did before 1965. This change in attitudes towards immigrants was evident in the change in campaigning techniques from the 1968 presidential campaign to the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. In 1968, the effects of the 1965 Immigration Act were not yet evident, as the new residents of the U.S. that had immigrated to the U.S. immediately after the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schwartz and Troianovski (2015), reporters for The Wall Street Journal, claim that many residents of the U.S. fear that the terrorist group ISIS will exploit this expansion and use it to smuggle terrorists into the U.S. Fears have especially heightened after the 2015 San Bernardino shooting. Although this has not been confirmed to be the workings of a foreign terrorist group (Karimi, Shoichet, Ford, 2015), American citizens are becoming increasingly in favor of restricting immigration. In a December 2015 survey conducted by the Associated Press, 53% of respondents opposed the Obama administration s plan to admit Syrian refugees into the U.S. and 54% believed that the U.S. takes too many immigrants from the Middle East (Swanson, 2015). While pro restriction attitudes may cause the number of people immigrating to the U.S. each year outside of the refugee system to decrease, the increasing number of Syrian refugees entering the U.S. in 2016 and 2017 will offset this. The number of immigrants voting in future elections will increase as a result of the refugee crisis, so in the future, presidential candidates should increase the amount of appeals and advertisements used in order to encourage Syrian refugees and other immigrants to ... • 14. Dual Language Argument Paper We learned in our text that the development of language is a complicated process that involves phonemes, morphemes, syntactic development among several other factors (Siegler, DeLoache, Eisenberg Saffran, 2014, p. 218). Proper and effective development of these language skills has been shown to have a critical learning period that enables successful fluency of a language; this period usually occurs between the ages of 5 and puberty (Siegler et al., 2014, p. 220). I believe that this critical period is the backbone of the argument against bilingual education. Proponents of this argument believe that the sooner a child is immersed in the new language, the better off they will be with regards to mechanics and use of that language. The problem with this argument, as our text points out, is that modern research does not support this way of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This model supports the use of both the native language and the new language within the daily teaching curriculum (Ray, 2008). The No Child Left Behind Act threatens the Dual Language method and negatively impacts bilingual education because of the high degree of emphasis that is placed on standardized testing. The weight of standardized testing that is felt from the state all the way down to the classroom level has forced curriculum to focus on the passing of these tests. Because bilingual students must take the standardized test in English, this has caused a shift in the landscape of bilingual education. Teachers of bilingual students are abandoning the DL method in favor of a more English only environment as a means to help students pass standardized tests (Ray, 2008). This negates the purpose of bilingual education and decreases the benefits that these students receive while learning in a dual language ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Flipped Advising Model Analysis Introduction The aim of this paper is to propose a shift towards a flipped advising model in order to complement the traditional advising approach in higher education institutions. The flipped advising model could easily be incorporated into the existing learning management system (LMS) to provide students with up to date and timely resources (Steele, 2016). This proposed shift could improve students academic performance while giving them plenty of time to plan their courses in advance (Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011). Flipped advising approach maintains high quality resources that are accessible to the students 24/7 and give them freedom to learn at their own pace (Al Omary, 2010; Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011). A study conducted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Academic advisors are required to receive adequate training opportunities to be able to effectively and efficiently use this model to foster student success (Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011). Additional limitations are such as up front investment of time to build the advising shell or other on demand resources (Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011). Technical issues such as slow download feeds caused by poor Internet infrastructure, firewall protections that block some of these communication programs, simple power or internet disruptions, etc. could also hinder the productivity of the flipped advising model (Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011). Finally, it is important to evaluate the usability of the flipped advising model in order to identify the benefits and/or constrain allied with the student success; however, the questions are how to assess, which assessment tools to use, who will be responsible for the creation of the assessment tools, etc. (Waldner, McDaniel Widener, 2011). Therefore, academic leaders should resolve these issues before fostering the flipped advising model. Conclusion The aim of this proposal paper was to examine flipped advising model to identify how this model would improve students success. As a result, both advantages and limitations of flipped advising model were investigated to understand how to overcome these issues in order to successful integrate this model into the institutions ... To many Americans, Appalachia has been thought of as a poverty stricken, backwards, violent region, and to some it still is perceived as such. Often it has been labeled with titles such as hillbilly, redneck, moonshiner, and feudists. Appalachia?s residents are seen as lazy, non trusting, drunk, illiterate, and in need of a savior to pull them out of the darkness into the light. Media platforms have changed censorship throughout the years by switching up social media, news, government, and privacy concepts. Social media has shaped censorship over the years by introducing new applications to our phones and computers. One event that has shaped it was in 2016, when Dan Ilic s video was taken down from a social media site a few second after Mr. Ilic posted it, the video had already been on that same social media site in 2011 and was not taken down till then. Gourarie wrote this article called Censorship in the Social Media Age which explains the events of Dan Ilic s video. The video titled Is Labiaplasty the new fad? ... soon after clicking post the author received a notice from the social media site that the video was removed and he was banned from logging in for 24 hours. • 35. Suicide In Dido s Lament By Mark Morris Dido s Lament , choreographed by Mark Morris, is an emotional dance theatre piece that illustrates the tale of Queen Dido, a character from the opera Dido and Aeneas, who prepares to commit suicide after feeling betrayed by Aeneas, a man with whom she fell in love with. Because the character that Morris is portraying is preparing to commit suicide due to being heartbroken, Morris wanted to translate this tragic and moving concept of suicide through not only his movement phrases, but through the dark setting created onstage by the performers as well. As the title suggests, the word lament , as well as the concept of suicide and despair, were the main elements on which Morris built the dance piece on. Through the dark ambiance and slow, dramatic movements onstage, Morris expresses to the audience through story how emotional grief, inner conflict, and sadness are. Mark Morris formed the Mark Morris Dance Group in 1980, and was famous for the power of his dancing and the musicality he chose to utilize with his performances, while still being graceful and delicate. • 39. Reflection Paper On Conformity Between working at an after school program, being a teacher s assistant in a preschool classroom, babysitting, and working in a sunday school classroom, I have a lot of experience with children and their behaviors. To study conformity, I chose to observe the preschool classroom that I am a teacher s assistant for. The classroom alternates children every other day, so my group for this project was the Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday group. The class usually has about four girls and two boys. Overall, the children are very respectful, fun, and eager to learn. Over the course of one class period, I participate in a few different activities with the children. First, we stop at the bathrooms before breakfast. Being as far into the school year as we are, the class knows what is expected of them and what the schedule is. However, they do space out quite often. If a teacher is not standing by the bathroom door watching them wash their hands, then there is a good chance they will play in the sink. Once I or another teacher says their name or reminds them to hurry up, then they go back to following the rules. The children are obedient because they have respect for teachers and because they do not want a punishment. Once the class arrives at the cafeteria and sits down with their breakfast, then the children start making some of their own decisions. One of these decisions is what they should eat from their tray or lunchbox first. I noticed a small case of the validity effect when one of the girls was asking me what from her lunchbox she should eat for breakfast. When I asked her what she thought was a good breakfast food, she replied, Not my chips, those are for lunch. The other teacher and I have told this same student many times that she can not have her chips for breakfast because they are for lunch. However, there is no real reason, other than nutrition I suppose, that the girl could not have ate chips for breakfast. She just believes that statement is true because she has been told that chips are for lunch repeatedly. Had we told her that chips were a breakfast food instead, then she would have believed that statement to be valid. After breakfast, the group heads back to the classroom. Children ...
