In Today’S Global Market, China Is One, If Not The World’S
In today s global market, China is one, if not the world s most important player. When China s
economy is doing well, the majority of the world s economies tend to do the same. When China s
economy is slow, the rest of the world usually follows. At the start of the 2016 year, China s stock
market declined by 7% (Best). Stock markets in Europe, Asia, and the United States quickly
followed the trend. It is clear that when Chinaslows down, its trade partners follow. China affects a
lot of countries. Three examples include oil, commodities, and trade (Best). When there is not a lot
of supply of a certain item, the prices usually skyrocket and the supplier benefits. On the flipside,
when there is oversupply, the economy can suffer. This is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After the war, Mao Zedong took over China in 1949 (BBC History Mao Zedong). Shortly after,
China s influence in the global economy declined. China s involvement in the global economy was
only 5% during his rule (Holodny). This happened as a result from Mao Zedong implementing The
Great Leap Forward in 1958, and the Cultural Revolution in 1966. The Great Leap Forward was an
attempt to modernize China s economy so that it could match up with the economy of the United
States by around 1988 (Trueman). He saw potential growth in agriculture and industry. His
reasoning for choosing agriculture and industry was that one could not blossom without the other.
Agriculture needed industry because they needed the best machinery and equipment to succeed,
while the industry would prosper if it was fed well by agriculture. To do this, the government took
complete control. Schools, tools, retirement homes, entertainment, and healthcare were all provided
by the government (Trueman). This would ensure all the people could work. After the first year,
everything seemed great according to plan. Things would turn around at the start of 1959. In
1959, the government wanted its people to work faster to produce more products. This caused
workers to work long hours every day. Due to the quick production, the goods lacked quality. The
steel that was produced was too weak for construction, which was its intended purpose. Buildings
that were erected would not last

Comparison Between Island Of Inventions And The Pearl
The time and work you put into a dream that has no chance of coming true is time truly wasted,
the time could be used towards other things. According to The Island of Inventions and The
Pearl , no matter how hard or how much work and time you put into a dream you desperately
want to come true it has a chance of not happening. There will always be a person or group people
who tell you your dream is not worth it and it ll not do you any good in life.
As time passed the disappointment of not being sent the letter gave, but even after that no
invitation came . These are words from The Island Of Inventions it s tell us if we spend our entire
life waiting for something that will possibly never come it ll end up disappointing us. You spend all
this time hoping and wishing that it s possible, but that s the thing about dreams we sometimes need
to get slapped back into reality and realize that the work you put into a dream that doesn t come
true, comes back to you only to you and remind you everything you ve put into it wasn t worth it
or worth your time. We need to face reality and be okay with the things we have. Because if we
don t we could end up losing everything we love, just to get something better when we already have
everything that we need. You not only have to make sure that your... Show more content on

Comparing The Etruscan Civilization Between C. 1000 And...
1.The Etruscan civilization flourished between c. 1000 and 100 B.C. also known as the Iron Age
(Villanovan) in Etruria or what is now known as modern day Tuscany, Italy. Etruria s southern
area was bordered by the Tiber River and its northern area was bordered by the Arno River in which
the areas were broken up into city states ruled by their own rulers.
2.The Apollo of Veiiis a 5ft. 10 in. painted sculpture molded out of terra cotta. This sculpture was
originally a decoration on the roof of a temple built by the Etruscans. Both the Greek and Etruscan
s style of art was similar, with that being said the particular sculpture is a resemblance of the
Greek Archaic style of art. The curvilinear style along with the flat surface patterns of the folds of
the drape/ clothes he was wearing, the diagonal calf muscles radiating from beneath the knee, the
smile, and the style in which the hair was made (long locks) are the same characteristics of Archaic
Greek art. The difference between the Etruscan and Greek art form lies in the clear and crisp
contours, forms and stylization, of Apollo s body along with the fact that he is depicted as striding
(showing fluid flowing movement). This is also what makes the sculpture of Apollo of Veii
realistic because the sculpture not only shows fluid motion (the position of his legs and his
stretched out arms) but also the expression that is on Apollo s face.

extensive backgrounds in multiple management roles have shaped his approach to managing and

(D1).There are many challenges that James Byers believes are currently facing him as a
manager and supervisor in his professional role. The biggest challenge facing James on a day to
day basis is convincing everyone in the organization to go in one singular direction and bring
uniformity and consistency to existing processes and guidelines. Having to manage up and across
various group dynamics to bring cohesion and cohesiveness to processes that he currently
oversees is challenging in his role as a supervisor. James could not go into much detail on his
current challenges due to a recent reorganization of several departments at Medtronic. James
continually stressed that the biggest challenge facing him and many managers and supervisors on
his level have to do with uniformity. The challenge of unifying and streamlining processes across
multiple departments and therapies within a large corporation will always be a challenge. Process

The Odyssey
The Odyssey
In Homer s epic, The Odyssey, each culture treats strangers and guests with distinct differences
from every other culture. One of the most hospitable cultures was that of the ancient Greeks,
exemplified in Homer s The Odyssey by both gracious hosts and guests. In Greece and The Odyssey
, not only was good hospitality etiquette expected, but the added pressure that if they didn t treat
their guests with respect the gods would punish them further compelled excellent manners. The
Odyssey illustrates the proper etiquette when dealing with guests. In Homer s ancient Greece their
are many steps that a host must follow to complete proper guest host relations, these steps aren t
enforced but are expected. When a stranger comes to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
...we re at your knees in hopes of a warm welcome, even a guest gift, the sort that hosts give
strangers. As a guest, Odysseus is very selfish and inconsiderate towards his hosts. Throughout the
duration of Odysseus absence, the suitors are treated well, and in response to this, they refuse to
leave when asked. The suitors are fed and housed, and after a number of years they overstay their
welcome. In response to this Telemachus, prompted by Athena, informs the suitors that his
father is returning home and they are all to vacate Odysseus home. The suitors, in turn, ignore
him and continue to eat drink and be merry, at the cost of Telemachus and Penelope s household.
What are the consequences of these actions taken by the suitors? Although the primary
consequence is their death, they also lose the hand of Penelope. None of them are able to pass
the test of stringing the bow of Odysseus except Odysseus himself. This is followed by the main
consequence of the suitors execution at the hands of Odysseus and Telemachus. By not
respecting the hospitality given by Penelope, they set the stage for their own deaths. This is
quite possibly a reference to the fact that they saw hospitality as a way to honor the gods; giving
hospitality to a stranger was the same as offering it to a god. Zeus being the god of hospitality,
one of the primary ways to worship this aspect of Zeus godliness was to be hospitable to strangers
and travelers. A

Different Yardsticks
Do consumers use different yardsticks for evaluating trial experience and post purchase
consumption experience? A review of online chatter
Purpose: This exploratory study is an attempt to understand whether consumers use different
yardsticks to evaluate product trial experience and post purchase consumption experience.
Design/methodology/approach (mandatory): The researchers make use case methodology in the
motion picture industry. The pre release and post release reception of two Indian feature films,
Queen and Gulaab Gang, was studied. To gain insights and answer to the research question, the
researchers used consumer satisfaction theory to examine online comments and reviews generated

Marketers across industry verticals are increasingly encouraging consumers to experience their
products before they make a purchase decision. To cite examples, consumer goods companies
distribute free product samples, apparel brands offer a fitting room, automobile manufacturers offer
test drives, motion picture industry releases theatrical trailers, cosmetic brands offer makeovers,
software firms offer limited period trials and so on. While the marketing literature confirms product
trial efficacy over advertising (Marks and Kamins 1988; Smith 1993; Wright and Lynch 1995), the
extant literature does not have an answer to questions that marketing practitioners may have Why
consumers tend to dislike products after an initial positive response during product trial? Why
consumers tend to start developing an affinity for products over extended use despite having not
liked them during the initial trial? This exploratory study is an attempt to understand whether
consumers use different yardsticks to evaluate product trial experience and post purchase
consumption experience. More specifically, the study reviews product trial and post purchase
evaluation and presents a discussion in the context of consumer satisfaction literature. The study
also reviews conceptual definitions of electronic word of mouth (eWOM) and presents a discussion
around the extant literature in the motion picture industry.

The Beginning Of The 21st Century
The 21st Century, the time period that we all live in today, smothered in continuous social,
economic and political issues. An interesting era for films of this genre is the late 1930 s to
early 1940 s which we see reflections in the literature today. War World 2 was a turning point in
history and was a time of sheer horror in many places such as Spain, Germany, Poland and Eastern
Europe. In today s age, contemporary literature writers often draw their inspiration and ideas from
the writers that have gone before them. As a result, many works of 21st literature face the events
and movements from the past in order for them to make sense of the present. The two connections
that are very apart in all four of my texts is power and control and the theme of hope. The way that
each of these connections have been linked throughout the late 1930 s time period based texts show
how important they are into understanding what is still happening in the 21st century. The texts that
I have chosen to study are The Book Thief , Pan s Labyrinth , The Pianist and Defiance . The
reason I have chosen to study these are to shed light onto why 21st century literature quite often
seem to take ideas from the past to help make sense for the future as you have to know the past to
understand the present.
As stated by James Meade In the 1930 s one was aware of two great evils mass unemployment and
the threat of war. The late 1930 s was a time of war, a time of distress and a time of loss.

Carol Ann Duffy Poems Analysis
Originally Introduction Memories play a significant role in the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy,
particularly her recollections of childhood places and events. The poem Originally, published in
The Other Country (1990), draws specifically from memories of Duffy s family s move from
Scotland to England when she and her siblings were very young. The first born child, Duffy was
just old enough to feel a deep sense of personal loss and fear as she traveled farther and farther
away from the only place she had known as home and the family neared its alien destination. This
sentiment is captured in Originally, in which it is described in the rich detail and defining language
of both the child who has had the experience and the adult who recalls... Show more content on

The hate name of the racists is sprayed on a brick wall the harshness and unyielding nature of
which is symbolic of the mentality of those who do such things. The unfamiliar, snowy weather
and artificial neon lights create the impression for the immigrant that the country moved to is
coming to bits . This image of fragmentation is, though, not entirely imaginary as he or she has a
life splintered from all that is familiar and constantly experiences a sense of alienation. The
italicised words at the close of the poem give voice to the immigrant but this only gives away a
difficulty with English. The unfinished verbs, Me not know and It like they only... are drawn
attention to by Duffy in order that the reader may ponder what it would be like to face the same
language problem. The final words of the poem, Imagine that remind us of the opening and there
is quite a clear impression that Duffy is adopting an undisguised didactic stance. As a skilled and
empowered user of the English language herself she is drawing attention to the lot of those who
are marginalised because of their deficiency in its use. Carol Ann Duffy s Stealing An Analysis and

The Concept Of Emotional Branding
The concept of emotional branding refers to the relationship and connection people have with
certain brands. Built through strategic marketing and communications, brands have been able to
develop campaigns that shape attitudes of its audiences that drive decision making and behaviour.
The concept stems from the realization that many customers do not, in fact, make buying decisions
through a purely rational approach, focusing solely on the financials, and attributes of products, but
rather, these decisions are influences in large part by their emotions. While many purchasing
decisions are certainly influenced by the subconscious emotions of the consumer, emotional
branding can also determine the strength and length of a customer... Show more content on

For example, Volvo has historically focused its campaigns around it s superior safety features, but
with the advancement of technology in recent years, Volvo has been losing its position as a
leader for safe vehicles and its market share as a result. This is a great example of what could
happen to an automotive firm that focuses solely on the attributes of its vehicles and ignoring the
potential of emotional branding. There is little doubt that Volvo could have leveraged its position as
a leader in safety to develop strong emotional marketing communications and messaging, but it has
failed to do so, forcing the brand to rethink the way it positions itself relative to its competition.
Conversely, German automaker, BMW, has been successful at capturing the hearts and minds of
consumers through its Ultimate Driving Machine campaign which feature its vehicles driving
through opulent scenery with a focus on posh and luxurious interiors, suggesting that their cars are
the ultimate status of success and that working hard deserves to be rewarded with the best.
Moreover, BMW s commitment to post purchase service and customer experience (BMW offers
owners Driver Training where they can drive their cars around a closed track at ungodly speeds)
has had significant returns, with the brand experiencing the highest rates of repurchase of any
luxury car brand. Similarly, VW s Das Auto and Drivers Wanted campaigns, were wildly successful
at attracting

Raymund Maximilian Kolbe Thesis
What is a saint? A saint is a person of great holiness, who has performed miracles for God s
cause. What is a martyr? A martyr is someone who dies for what they believe in, just like
Maximilian Kolbe. Raymund Maximilian Kolbe was born January 8, 1894. He was born in
Zdunska Wola, in Poland. Both parents, Marianna and Juliusz, were very holy, and dedicated
much of their time and money to teach their children about the catholic faith. (Gale BIC, 2)
They were both poor weavers, who traded with Jewish merchants. From a young age,
Maximilian was very fond of his faith. He enjoyed church, and loved to pray. In 1907, Max and
his brothers decided to move to an all boys Franciscan school. Their mother was supportive of
this decision, because she wanted to shield the boys from the other sex. When he turned sixteen
in 1910, he was going to join the army, but his mother thought he was fit for the priesthood.
(Gale BIC, 4) So, Kolbe relented, and in 1912, arrived in Rome, and spend the next seven years

Different Systems in a Human Body Essay
Human Body System Interaction
.
All the systems in the human body are vital to our survival and well being. If you take away the
functions of just one of these systems our whole body will cease to work properly. The main
systems of the human body are the nervous, endocrine respiratory, circulatory, immune, digestive,
excretory, skeletal, muscular, and the reproductive systems. They all work together in harmony and
unison to keep us alive. The nervous and endocrine systems are what control most of the body. The
nervous system includes the brain, spinal, cord and nerves. The endocrine system consists of
various hormonal glands such as the pituitary. These two systems interact closely since they both

Without the respiratory system our body would just be an airless lump. The circulatory and
immune systems are two very closely related systems. The circulatory is composed out of blood
vessels, the heart, and blood. The immune system is made up of white blood cells and various
lymph nodes. Basically, most of the immune system is found inside the blood of the circulatory
system. The circulatory system provides the body with blood. It gives the kidneys of the
digestive system something to filter and picks up nutrients from the small intestines. It also picks
up air from the lungs of the respiratory system and provides the brain of the nervous system with
blood, along with the rests of the body. Protection from wounds in the integumentary system is
also provided by the circulatory system which has platelets that aid in blood clotting and forming
scabs. The immune system protects all the other systems from disease and helps them from being
attacked by viruses and bacteria. It also aids the ears of the nervous system with some very
protective earwax. The circulatory system provides us with life fluid while the immune system
protects that fluid and the rest of our body. The digestive and excretory systems help the body with
the wonderful task of food. The digestive system is composed of the stomach, mouth, liver,
pancreas, and the large and small intestine. It digests food and provides the

Conflict In Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre is the story of a young drumroll please the heroine. (shockingly, she s named Jane
Eyre), who lives with her aunt and cousins, the Reeds, at Gateshead Hall. She s an orphan in
nineteenth century England so, like everyone in that category, she s got a hard knock life. When
she graduates from the orphanage she gets a job as a governess and ends up falling in love with
her hot boss and they re all set to get married when now s the real drumroll he s already married.
Jane situation is more conflicted than Rochester s: because as a woman she is also a member of a
colonized group, but as a specifically British woman, she is a colonizer, She is the protagonist and
narrator of the novel, Jane is an intelligent, honest, plain featured young girl forced to contend with
oppression, inequality, and hardship. Although she meets with a series of people who threaten her
autonomy, she repeatedly succeeds at asserting herself and maintains her principles of justice,
human dignity, and morality. She also values intellectual and emotional fulfillment. Jane strong
belief was in gender and social equality challenges the Victorian prejudices against women and the
poor.
The most important thing that the aspects of Jane Eyre that would be susceptible to a post colonial
approach are its connection with the West Indies, with the island of Madeira and with India. There
are many aspects in Jane Eyre work that is susceptible to the post colonial approach. Bronte s novel

Meursault And Raskolnikov
How can the way a character acts or treats other people push the plot of a book forward? Fyodor
Dostoevsky s novel Crime and Punishment and Albert Camus novella The Stranger both feature
main characters guilty of committing murder; however, the the two main characters, Meursault
and Raskolnikov, act very differently and so their fates end up very different. The main character
of the The Stranger is a man simply called Monsieur Mersault. Camus presents Meursault as an
honest person. This doesn t necessarily work in his favor, as he tells people repeatedly that things
don t matter. He is very emotionally detached from everyone and everything. He does not even cry
when his own motherdies, and he does not lovethe woman who is supposed to be his love interest.

Meursault, true to his characterization, doesn t really react. He feels no guilt because he does not
feel like anything matters. The murder he committed was just another thing that happened. He is
caught and put on trial for his crimes. The prosecutor uses his indifference toward the death of his
mother and everything else to get him convicted. Even after his conviction, he doesn t show any
emotion. Raskolnikov, however, immediately becomes paranoid about what he has done and
thinks that everyone knows. He falls ill after his crime and the people around him start to
believe he has gone insane. This leads people to suspect him of committing the crime. Perhaps
had he not acted the way he did, no one would suspect of the crime. Despite actually having
feelings after his crime, Raskolnikov also feels no guilt for killing the old woman because of his
philosophy about extraordinary men. He simply dislikes the fact that he wasn t successful and
therefore not an extraordinary man. Raskolnikov ends up confessing to the crime and because of
his supposed insanity after the murder it is decided that he is not some simple

Yale Case Solution
1. How is Yale s investment philosophy reflected in its strategic asset allocation? Yale s
investment philosophy is one of the critical factors that played into the success of the fund s
performance in the past years. The philosophy is based on 5 principles: focus on equity,
diversification, opportunities in inefficient markets, outside managers and alignment of manager s
incentives with Yale s interests. In the paragraphs below I will discuss how each of these
principles is reflected in the endowment s asset allocation, as shown from Exhibit 1. Yale s belief
in equities is reflected through the endowment s heavy allocation in equity from 1985 2010. The
weight allocation, however, is heavier in the earlier years (1985 1999) than in later... Show more

As asset allocation has reached the efficient frontier, the role of having superior fund manager is
becoming more critical. Manager s selection is a factor that differentiates Yale from other
endowments. 3. What are the factors underlying Yale s investment philosophy and process which
account for its successful investment performance? [In other words, in business jargon, what are
the value drivers of the so called Yale model ?] The combination of five factors in Yale s
investment philosophy plays an important role to Yale s successful investment performance.
However, among the five factors, the most critical and non replicable factors are Yale s ability to
identify and invest in inefficient markets and to hire superior managers with aligned incentives; all
of which came from expertise and years of experience in the industry. David Swansen s expertise,
in particular, plays a big role. The success of the model is attributed to Yale s ability to combine
both quantitative analysis (mean variance analysis) with market judgments to structure its portfolio.
In addition, Yale also uses statistical analysis to actively test their models with factors affecting the

the laws of gravity. He is undoubtedly correct in this assessment. Indeed, globalization is no longer
something to be skeptical of, it is very real and is changing our world exponentially. The affects of
globalization, however, continue to be a heated topic for debate. Proponents praise the overall
economic lift provided by free trade, the diffusion of cultures, and the spread of democracy and

If it had not been for the increasing awareness of other cultures brought about by globalization
Yoga would never have grown to the fad it is today. This prevalence of global fads can be seen in
many ways, especially in entertainment and technology. When I was younger I regularly read
Japanese manga comics. These comics, long popular in Japan, only recently became popular in
America due to the proliferation of American fan translations on the internet. Through manga I
learned a lot of Japanese culture and found hours of entertainment that I would not have
experienced otherwise. As with the entertainment of Japanese comics, I also play several video
games designed in Japan and regularly use technology such as the Sony Playstation. In fact, the

quite different. The prevalence of technology and ideas can only have a positive impact on the
world and my life. The more minds in the world that can cooperatively work to improve our lives

that I would rather have these experiences and technologies than to have missed out on them. In

old when he took the throne from his father, Alexander III of Russia (Newworldencyclopedia.org,
2017). There was a series of events leading up to this overthrow of the established monarchy. World
War Iwas among the most significant of these. Prior to WWI, Russia had already suffered a
number of military failures. These include the war with Japan in 1904 1905; which was a
distinguished failure (Newworldencyclopedia.org, 2017). Not only was the Russo Japanese War
a military disaster, but it was also an economic failure for Russia. The war was meant to create a
patriotic fervor and unite the citizens around Tsar Nicholas II; however, it had the opposite
effect (History Learning Site, 2016). Following the failed war, Tsar Nicholas II promised the
people he would introduce reforms concerning the people s needs. The reforms the Tsar made did
nothing to help and this was only aggravated by Russia s shortcomings in Austria Hungry and the
growing agricultural failures the serfs were facing. Russia had far less superior weapons and the

After having had several email exchanges with his Mexican counterpart over several weeks

Dear Johannes,
1 am not surprised of the outcome of your meeting with Mr. Smythe Jones (CFO). However, I
cannot answer your request until I heard from local management. As it was agreed on the last
meeting, we were precluded ,from doing any work without first getting approval from
management at the headquarters and we were instructed by local management from doing
anything until they finalized what was required from us. It appears to me to be a Catch 22
game! 1 believe we (your Firm and ours) should not fall in the game of passing the ball to
someone else before getting a clear understanding of what is going on. We have had several
meetings with local management where the issue has been raised and were responded that other
priorities were established by the headquarters (on my end I thought they tell you everything they
have been instructed of locally, unfortunately it does not seem to be the case). In my opinion it
looks very easy that you accept from management at the headquarters to hold us accountable from
something we are not responsible for, and this does not mean I do not understand the pressure you
are receiving on your end. However, we are not the enemy. 1 am not sending copy of this message

Voltaire s Impact On Voltaire
Voltaire An enlightened thinker once said, I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the
death your right to say it. Voltaire was one of the most praised philosophers of his time as he
impacted the views many people had on religion, freedom of speech, and literature. His most
famous works include the Candide, Poem on Lisbon Disaster, Zadig, and Micromegas, These along
with twenty other philosophical tales made Voltairethe master of one of the French Enlightenment
s most fecund and innovative literary forms, (Riley 1). Voltaire changed the way people thought
about the Catholic Church through his plays, poems, and works mocking the injustices and
flaws of society and religion itself in his time. Voltaire was born Francois Marie Arouet in Paris
of 1694 to a family of 5 children. A well known theory about his birthday is that he prefered to
keep it a secret, as he constantly stated it was in different months than people suspected. His
mother, Marie Marguerite d Aumart, died when he was only seven years old. This allowed him
to grow closer to his father, who was free thinking and often encouraged him to speak his mind.
He enrolled at the College Louis le Grand, a Jesuit secondary school in Paris, and received a
classical education. This is when he first began to show promise as a writer.
After college, he studied law while employed as secretary at the French embassy in The Hague. He
then decided he wanted to devote his life to literature. He began

Checkpoint Near Field Communication ( Nfc ) Essay
Abstract Near Field Communication (NFC) is a set of protocols and specifications for the wireless
exchange of information over a short range and is the next technological stepping towards
ubiquitous computing. It builds upon the existing RFID technology. NFC is a set of technical
specifications and standards for transferring information between two proximate objects via the
inductive coupling of radio frequency fields at 13.56 MHz. This technology will save the time.
NFC technology allows people to integrate their daily use loyalty cards, credit cards etc. into their
mobile phones. In addition to integrating those cards into mobile devices, NFC technology brings
innovation opportunities to mobile communications. It enables two users to easily communicate
and exchange data simply by touching two two NFC enabled devices to each other.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The American Banking System
The American System The American Banking system has always focused on order, resiliency and
the ability to withstand the storm. When comparing banking systems, it is required analyze both
the strengths and the weaknesses of each system. While examining the American banking system, a
key strength that is presented is the pride if its resiliency, these improvements in the resiliency of
the banking system have been reinforced by a series of key capital and liquidity rules that have
been enacted in the United States, including the Basel III capital and liquidity frameworks as
adopted in more stringent form (The State of American Banking).
This focus on resiliency also included stress tests that the American banks undergo to determine
their ability to deal with things such as, a sudden jump in the unemployment rate of 4 percentage
points, or, a sudden decrease in GDP of more than 6 percentage points, and an abrupt rise in the
BBB corporate bond spread (The State of American Banking). Through these stress tests, it can be
concluded whether or not the individual banks are making the correct decisions in the challenging
financial circumstances, or whether the government needs to step in and alter legislations or
practices.
To examine how the stress tests are regulated the process has remained largely unchanged since the
1930 s. As still, in the United States, depending on the charter type, four federal agencies, as well
as state agencies, oversee banking and thrift

Essay on Hamlet and Macbeth Analyzed as Aristotelian...
Aristotle s Poetics is considered the guide to a well written tragedy; his methods have been used
for centuries. Aristotle defines a tragedy as an imitation of an action that is serious, complete, and
of a certain magnitude... in the form of an action, not of narrative; through pity and fear effecting
the proper purgation of these emotions (House, 82). The philosopher believes the plot to be the
most vital aspect of a tragedy, thus all other parts such as character, diction, and thought stem from
the plot. Aristotle affirms, the principle of tragedy the soul, if you like is the plot, and second to
that the characters (Whalley, 27). William Shakespeare s Hamletand Macbethessentially adhere to

His action is premeditated and is aggravated by his human emotions, ambitions and greed.
Subsequent to the action, the character is a central element in a tragedy. According to Aristotle,
the character must be true to life and natural and is supposed to be a perfect person to whom the
audience can still relate (House, 91). Hamlet is a wealthy prince, however he deals with the
problems similar to the common man. He is confused, paranoid, and angered about the
circumstances surrounding the death of his father. He is also unsure of himself and how he
should handle the situation. His inability to act on his father s extortion has him reluctant to kill
King Claudius. Hamlet s lack of confidence and anxiety is evident at the end of Act 1, Scene 5
when he cries, The time is out of joint. O cursed spite, that I was ever born to set it right (190 191).
The audience can relate to this uncertain feeling and they are able to empathize with Hamlet.
Aristotle also describes the tragic character as a person of a certain kind or quality; that, if part of
the horror is seeing a man broken, it must be a strong man (Whalley, 25). At the onset of the play,
Macbeth is returning from suppressing a revolt against King Duncan in an engagement in which he
fights with great valor. However once his ambitions take over, his strength is diminished. Macbeth is

For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide Analysis
Sexual objectification occurs when a person s body or body parts are treated as objects to be
coveted or desired. Women face sexual objectification everyday and Shange, in her novel For
Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide, takes several women from ambiguous backgrounds to
reiterate the challenges a womanfaces in trying to maintain agency over her body through the
ubiquitous nature of sexual objectification and its ability to perpetuate genderviolence. The first
introduction we experience from the women is their challenge with sexuality and embracing
their bodies. The graduation story is a story about a black girl who feels sexually liberated after
losing her virginity. The poem ends with the line, in the backseat of that ol buick/wow//by
daybreak/ I just couldn t stop grinnin (Shange 8). The young girl portrays that rite of passage from
adolescence to adult after her first sexual experience. Yet there is still that feel of naivety that
clings to her since society has not yet diminished her sense of sexual power. Shange depicts a
young woman in control of her sexuality.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

all women fear and can see everyday of their life. Also, in society today, rarely is the full blame
placed upon the men but what the woman was doing, what she wore, where she was. Therefore,

The Incorporation Of America Summary
The Incorporation of America by Alan Trachtenberg discusses historical trends and events that lead
to the rise of America as an industrial nation. The expansion of the West lead to booming industries
that helped grow particular industries. Due to the industrial expansion it lead to a growth in many
industries and the country itself. The author is referring to the expansion of the West and the
Industrial Revolutionwhen discussing The Incorporation of America . The incorporation of America
is an argument that the rise of corporatization in the Gilded Age restructured the idea of American
culture.
The Railroad industry extended to the West as the factory system developed in cities. However, the
conception of the West did not appear until the late 19th century. The West was viewed as the land
of opportunity. The West had railroad development, mining, and cattle ranching. Cities such as

The Life Of Fredrick Douglass, An American Slave
Ironically inhumane. Maybe not ironic at all. Forced labor of humans being considered humane
almost seems impossible. Everyone is human, they feel pain, excitement, emotion, actually maybe
not emotion. Emotions are typically innate, sadness, happiness, but what about empathy? Slavery
brought extreme empathy to some, but showed the void of empathy in others. Those lacking
empathy can either be violent or depressed. They cannot feel for others, have no reason to try to
find a connection. One major question exists, is empathy a learned emotion? Throughout the
moving, enlightening, and harsh Fredrick Douglass autobiography, Narrative of the Life of
Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave, the former slave truly reflects on what the public is being
kept from hearing about: actual slave attitudes. Written in 1845, around the time the strongest
abolitionist movements were in the beginning stages, the recently freed slave provided a semi
live feed of what reality for the slave is truly like. With his stories of an abandoned childhood and
an under privileged education, Douglass provides the reader with the feelings, sights, and smells of
living in his shoes. Taking a retrospective view of the topic, one can jump to the conclusion of
slaverybeing an obvious example of inhumane labor, and one that needed to be dismantled
immediately. Looking at it from the point of view of an average individual living among others in
the recently formed United States republic, one may be able to

A Near Death Experience
Sometimes a little near death experience helps them put things into perspective ~Annie Shropshire.
Near death experiences can be scary. Many people have had near death experiences. A lot of near
death experiences have certain things in common that occur during and afterward. Some of these
things are: change in priorities, time distortion, and fear. These are the three most common things to
experience.
Change in priorities is the thing that you hold more important than any other thing in your life
changes to something different. After Tom Benecke had his near deathexperience he saw spending
time with his wife was more important than a piece of paper. As he saw the yellow paper, the
pencil flying, scooped off the desk and, unimpeded by the glassless window, sail out into the night
and out of his life, Tom Benecke burst into laughter and then closed the door behind him. In

The Anatomy of Homo Sapiens is Unique
The anatomy of Homo sapiens is unique in several ways and sets us apart from other species all
across the world. One of the most distinguishing characteristics that differentiates Homo sapiens
from other species is the utilization of bipedal locomotion. Humans have established a unique way
of moving from one location to another that is due to the evolution numerous anatomical
developments over millions of years. Hominid bipedalismhas evolved as a product of natural
selection, a theory coined by Charles Darwin in 1859. This theory of evolution through the process
of natural selection explains that some organisms are more reproductively fit than others.
Therefore, these organisms are able to pass on their beneficial genes to the next generation.
Essentially, traits that give certain organisms specific advantages, such as bipedalism in hominids,
will be selected for in greater numbers, and therefore more individuals in the succeeding
populations will display these beneficial traits (Darwin 1859). Darwin s theory can be used to help
describe the central idea behind the fascinating transformation process from quadrupedalism to
bipedalism.
One of the most intriguing aspects surrounding this topic is the multiple different hypotheses for
the evolution from quadrupedal gait to bipedal locomotion. Due to the fact that evidence suggests
that the emergence of bipedalism occurred as early as 6 millions years ago, there have been many
hyptotheses as to how the earliest hominids

Should Mountaintop Removal Be Banned
Since the 1970s, mountaintop removal continues to destroy millions of acres of land and hundreds

The Bedouin
The prophet Muhammad, born in 570 AD in Mecca, was raised by his uncle Abu Taleb as part of
the Quraysh tribe. When he was 25, Muhammad married a 40 year old business women, Khadijah,
while living out his days as a merchant. As the state of life in Mecca could at times be
overwhelming, Muhammad discovered a cave in Hira, which he used to disconnect from Mecca
through meditation. During a routine visit to the cave, Muhammadwas visited by an angel, in
human form, who revealed Muhammad as God s messenger, urging him to relay the words of
Allah to the citizens of Mecca and beyond. Concerned about the possible reaction of his fellow

The Bedouin had little interest in conventional religion, as speculation of supernatural higher
powers did not make any impact on their difficult environment (Reading 3, page 15). Because of
their harsh, nomadic lifestyle, the Bedouin instead evolved a chivalric code, which, seeing as they
were extremely communal, stressed the importance of protecting and avenging the tribe (Reading
3, page 15). However, this chivalric code, known as Muruwah, only encouraged bravery and
selflessness within the context of the tribe, paying no attention to universal human rights (Reading
3, page 16). As such, there were great acts of violence committed between various tribes, who
following their own special brands of Muruwah, were obligated to defend any actions of their tribal
brethren. The prophet Muhammad, a Bedouin himself, saw that the barbarity of the tribes was not
conducive to prosperity in Arabia. In his final sermon at mount Arafat in Mecca, prophet
Muhammad relayed to listeners his message, at one point saying, every Muslim is a brother to
every Muslims and Muslims constitute one brotherhood (Reading 2, page 11). The concept of
brotherhood spoke clearly to the Bedouin, as it was inline with their cultural traditions. Because the
prophet was one of them and his message of stressing community related to them, the Bedouin
bought into the monotheistic religion of Islam. Moreover, because members of the same tribe could
not fight amongst each other, Bedouins who converted to Islam brought about peace, ending the

The Legacy Of Southeast Brazil
Northeast Brazil is one of the poorest areas in a country where there is an incredibly great divide
between the wealthy and the poor. Similar to the situation in the United States, many impoverished
families are caught in a cycle where being born into poverty means your resources are less
accessible than that of someone born into money. As a result, the young people remain
impoverished throughout their lives and have children that face the same struggle continuing the
cycle.. Educationis one of the critical resources that may be able to assist in removing someone
from an impoverished situation. Unfortunately, in places with a large population of poor, the school
systems tend to be in poor condition or non existent. Post World War II Brazil struggled with its

Adjustment To College Essay
Adjusting to college life immediately after school becomes a toilsome transition for many
students. The decision to go to college depends on many reasons: earning a degree; increasing
knowledge; or self development. Going to college gives a chance to the students to learn new
things, meet new people, to deal effectively with new experiences and challenges which eventually
help them in their personal growth and development. According to Arkoff (1968), the definition of
collegeadjustment reflects on how much an individual achieves through it and its effect on his
personal growth. Tinto(1993) has proposed three stages that students move through from school to
college i.e. separation, transition and incorporation. According to Astin s (1999) theory... Show

Students whose expectations were fearful reported more stress, depression, and poorer university
adjustment than sstudents with other types of expectations, particularly prepared. Also Mohan
(1992) asserts that adjustment improves with age. Adjustment to college involves a variety of
demands differing in kind and degree and requiring lot of coping responses or adjustments. It s not
only academics with which the students are concerned; they are equally affected by the social and
emotional changes. The first year students have an increased personal freedom where they have to
make their own decisions and take the responsibility to maintain balance between various
newfound demands. In college they are required to adjust to the new environment and to work out
their concerns directly with the teachers. Students are expected to be independent learners in
college where they need to adjust with the new academic demands. It is different from what they
have experienced in school because here they have to face more competition, deal with more
academic load and to follow the different teaching styles of various

Unlike any other form of literature or entertainment, Fairy Tales help children to discover their
identity and suggest experiences needed to develop their character. In Bruno Bettelheim s Life
Divined from the Inside Bettelheim states that Fairy Tales intimate that a rewarding, good life is
within one s reach despite adversity but only if one does not shy away from the hazardous struggles
without which one can never achieve true identity(Bettelheim106). Anne Sexton s Cinderella is a
perfect example of Bettelheim s definition of a Fairy Tale.

The Ball was for the prince to find a bride, and although Cinderella begged her stepmother to let
her go, she wasn t allowed. Bettelheim must agree with all this adversity that Cinderella is
facing. Later, her stepmother threw a dish of food into the fire and told her that if in an hour she
had picked them up, she could go. Even though the Birds came and picked up the food,
Cinderella s stepmother still said no. Her stepmother s reasoning for not letting her go was that
she had no clothes and that could not dance. It s hard not to see how hard Cinderella is trying to
lead a good life, although she faces so much adversity. Bettelheim might also agree.
As the old saying goes The good guy always wins ; Cinderella ends up going to the prince s ball
and is the only girl he dances with all night. For three nights the Prince walked Cinderella home,
and she would disappear. However, on the third day the prince caught Cinderella s shoe by
putting wax on the steps. He gets the shoe and tries to find her. He goes to Cinderella s house to
try to find her, and her step sisters try on the shoe with no avail. Finally, Cinderella tried on the
shoe and it was a perfect fit. Now that the Prince had found his princess, they decided to get
married.

What Is A Victim Of Crime A Failure
These quotations demonstrate that over the past fourteen years the head of State has called for the
government to increase attention to the treatment of victims of crime in England and Wales. This
would imply that the needs of victims of crime have consistently been on the political agenda and
that the system is recognising that improvements need to be made to promote victims interests.
What however is the reality? This essay will explore how an advocate for the criminal justicesystem
(CJS) would argue that victims of crimeare not being failed. It will present the measures taken to
improve the rights and interests of victims. It will discuss the commitment of the Crown
Prosecution Service (CPS) to victims by exploring The Prosecutors Pledge .... Show more content

Nils Christie believes that conflicts have been taken away from the parties directly involved.
This view is supported by other academics who have implied that the victims do not have any
formal status in proceedings. It is argued that the effect of this results in the victim being
neglected and viewed as the non person in the eyes of the professional participants . Victims
have been compared to a professional tool at the disposal of the lawyers, judges and court
officials which would imply that cases have been taken by the professionals of the system and
that victims have lost participation in their own cases. It is submitted that this is a transparent
failure of the system as victims have lost their voice and are viewed as subservient to the
professionals. It is interesting to compare the current process with that used in the Anglo Saxon
period where an altercation trial took place and the victim was responsible for prosecuting the
offender. Academics have labelled this the golden age of the victim as the conflict was heard
without lawyers, giving the victim a central role. A clear difference can be seen between the two
systems and victims appear to have lost rights which could be concluded as a failure of the

The Illuminated Qur An On Display
The illuminated Qur an on display in the Asian Art Museum s Art of the Islamic World section has
no known author, nor does there appear to be much information on the piece itself. This Qur an was
either found or crafted in Iran, Shiraz, but there is no explanation in the description as to whether
the Iranis for the location of origin, or simply the location that the piece was found. Somewhat
peculiar, the piece is clearly labeled as having been created in 1560 1570, which when paired with
the location, would suggest that more information could be extrapolated about the piece s origins
and purpose. Yet the description simply gives a generic explanation of the purpose of a Qur an, but

The manuscript can be easily identified as being bound in leather by the texture of the cover,
which is attained during the leather tanning process, and causes slight ripples across the outer
surface from the wrinkling of dried animal hide. Interestingly enough, the cover carries no
discernable markings to identify it as a Qur an, including writing or calligraphy of any kind. This
would suggest that it is for use at a mosque, since it would most likely always be in the mosque
head s possession, or resting in a kursi where it would be easy to identify.
The open page of the Qur an displays several lines of vertical calligraphy, all written in arabic,
surrounded by a myriad of colors and intricate geometric and somewhat vegetal designs. Neither
the passages nor does the field encompassing them occupy the entire page, colophons hang apart
from the script, and a block of patterns rests atop the right page s script. If there is a sura, it is
probably the long, trailing script at the top of the right page, but otherwise the left page seems to
be absent of one, suggesting that it might be the end of a chapter while the right is a beginning.
All script seems to be written with lines of similar weight, and each one is surrounded by a border
made from the uncolored paper underneath the script and patterns. The patterns around the borders

Solution For The Problem Solution
Problem Solution
The solution for the problem we observe is to design a product that has floss connecting to the
toothbrush. That way, people who forget will be reminded to include this in their everyday
routine. The consumers would be able to take the floss out. We think this is going to be the
outcome because 30% of adults say they do not have it in handy, now they do!
Conclusion
Our solution was successful, but there was some things that could be fixed. Our suggested solution
to the problem was successful because we were able to remove the floss successfully, keep the
dental floss cutter in place, and we were able to remind the user to floss. When we tested this
product, there was some things that could have been improved. When in use, water got to the
bottom, and slightly removed the glue. To fix this, we could put a cover at the end, so it would
prevent the water from going in. It was also difficult to take the floss out of the product, but it
was possible. Next time, we could make an opening big enough so users do not have a problem
with taking the floss out. Some possible problems noticed in the test is that the floss could slip to
the very bottom, and it would be extremely difficult to get out. To fix this, we could put a slit near
the dental floss cutter to prevent the floss from accidentally going to the bottom. Another difficulty
that is most likely to come off is having to

Short Story Of Charlie s Life
By the time Charlie woke a few hours later, she felt much better. With a yawn, she stretched,
opening her eyes. There in the chair, closest to her feet was the president looking much like she d
felt before her nap, paperwork spread out on the low table in front of them.
Charlotte, he greeted, his voice low and raspy as he made a few final marks on the paper in front of
him.
Licking her lips, Charlie sat up, keeping her blanket pulled up around her. How long have I been
asleep?
A few hours, he replied leaning back in his chair, raking a hand through his already wild hair,
causing Charlie to smile and glance down at her hands. Are you feeling better? he asked.

Allegory In Veidt s Watchmen Moore And Gibbons
In Watchmen, Moore and Gibbons have a few subplots branching off of the main story. One of
these subplots centers on a newsvendor in New York City. A boy sitting close by is reading a
pirate comic book, and as the story moves forward, various panels and pieces of text from this
comic interposed with the real storyline. In this passage of WatchmenMoore and Gibbons utilize
the gritty allegory of the Sea Captain in the Black Freighter to foreshadow the ending of the
graphic noveland to give the reader more insight to the question raised throughout the entire story:
Who watches the Watchmen?

universe, the Black Freighter. The overarching plot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the key themes from Watchmen. The Watchmen, who use their time and effort
attacking people who they believe to be the cause of the recent murders, make hasty determinations
of culpability and impose their vigilante execution without any foresight were doomed to make
mistakes. And, in defending the innocents, this raises the questions: how many mistakes will be
tolerated before one is considered villainous? How many innocent civilians can one harm without
becoming the very monster being fought against? Moore and Gibbons were using the Watchmen
not as a case for the necessity for people to take justice upon themselves but to show the idea that
vigilantes are essentially destined to turn into the villains they fight against. The main story is the
example of the message contained within the Tales of the Black

Women In The Little Mermaid
The concept of portraying women as incomplete, or not fully developed, without a male counterpart
to fill the voids left in their personalities furthers the argument that films such as The Little
Mermaid allow females to feel as if they are not enough for themselves, in and of themselves. Susan
White addresses the implications of the film surrounding the outlandish expectations for women to
be confined within traditional roles in order to actually obtain the title of womanwhen she writes,
The film implies that the sense of freedom necessary to exploration and accomplishment must
finally be curbed if one is to become a woman (183). These feelings of inadequacy stunt the
development of strong, independent identity within females and breed... Show more content on

The first of these problematic circumstances is the breeding of feelings of discontent in one s
own company as Ariel finds that life in her underwater kingdom is simply not enough if she
cannot have the love of a practical stranger. This idea encourages women to lower their standards
for men in their romantic endeavors simply to make themselves feel as though they are desirable.
This behavior results in toxic relationships, low self esteem, and overall dissatisfaction in matters
which transcend the relationship itself. However, if the audience is made aware of the flaws in the
design of the main character s ideals of what makes a positive and functioning relationship, the film
presents an opportunity for the audience to elaborate on the detriment brought upon the main
character by her own disregard for self preservation and lacking consideration for thoughts beyond
that of hasty, misguided affection or preventable sacrifice; regrettably, young children are often
incapable of grasping this complex this complex approach to the film. Instead they take what is
presented to them at face value and apply it to themselves in that respect alone; had The Little
Mermaid been intended for older audiences, this approach would appear more logical, but since its
target audience is young children, the effect of inverting the messages in the film to acknowledge
societal flaws is lost, and the results left upon young viewers is less

India s Influence On India
India is a well known country that is located in Southern Asia, between Burma and Pakistan while
bordered by the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Distinguished with a long history, it is known
that the north western Aryan tribes came to settle with the Dravidian tribe during 1500 B. C., thus

culture, respect and inner nature of purity and modesty to the influence in knowledge of
Technology, Science and Music, India is considered the mother of cultures. Even as a growing
partner to various thriving countries, they are still at the top of the pyramid. The first area of
interest is the political structure of this country. Great Britain had control over India for some time
until 15th August, 1947 when they gained independence. Almost three years later when the
Constitution of Indiacame into effect and, therefore, India became a Republic on 26th January,

American Politics Vs. The Netflix Series House Of Cards
Provisional Title
A Case Study on American politics portrayed in House of Cards and its correlation to the current
political climate
1 Introduction
The American Netflix series House of Cards is a political drama that follows Frank Underwood
(Kevin Spacey) rising through the ranks from Democratic Majority Whip in the House of
Representatives to Vice President and later President of the United Statesby achieving his political
power through manipulation and ruthless pragmatism with the aid of his wife Claire Underwood
(Robin Wright).
Along with its fictional and hyperbolic representation of Washington DC and its controversial
political visions, House of Cards takes on various current real life debates of American politics in a
satirical and often cynical way.
1.1The research problem
This case study will examine American politics portrayed in the Netflix series House of Cards to
find out how the depicted political themes and the use of satire relate to the current political
environment in the United States in order to find similarities to real world politics and determine
what is fact and what is fiction in the series.
The cross sectional research that will be undertaken will employ the use of a qualitative research
design. The first phase of data collection will examine the use of political satire and analyse the
various political themes portrayed in the series House of Cards. Semi structured expert interviews
will focus in the second phase on relating the themes and

  • 2. In Today’S Global Market, China Is One, If Not The World’S In today s global market, China is one, if not the world s most important player. When China s economy is doing well, the majority of the world s economies tend to do the same. When China s economy is slow, the rest of the world usually follows. At the start of the 2016 year, China s stock market declined by 7% (Best). Stock markets in Europe, Asia, and the United States quickly followed the trend. It is clear that when Chinaslows down, its trade partners follow. China affects a lot of countries. Three examples include oil, commodities, and trade (Best). When there is not a lot of supply of a certain item, the prices usually skyrocket and the supplier benefits. On the flipside, when there is oversupply, the economy can suffer. This is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the war, Mao Zedong took over China in 1949 (BBC History Mao Zedong). Shortly after, China s influence in the global economy declined. China s involvement in the global economy was only 5% during his rule (Holodny). This happened as a result from Mao Zedong implementing The Great Leap Forward in 1958, and the Cultural Revolution in 1966. The Great Leap Forward was an attempt to modernize China s economy so that it could match up with the economy of the United States by around 1988 (Trueman). He saw potential growth in agriculture and industry. His reasoning for choosing agriculture and industry was that one could not blossom without the other. Agriculture needed industry because they needed the best machinery and equipment to succeed, while the industry would prosper if it was fed well by agriculture. To do this, the government took complete control. Schools, tools, retirement homes, entertainment, and healthcare were all provided by the government (Trueman). This would ensure all the people could work. After the first year, everything seemed great according to plan. Things would turn around at the start of 1959. In 1959, the government wanted its people to work faster to produce more products. This caused workers to work long hours every day. Due to the quick production, the goods lacked quality. The steel that was produced was too weak for construction, which was its intended purpose. Buildings that were erected would not last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparison Between Island Of Inventions And The Pearl The time and work you put into a dream that has no chance of coming true is time truly wasted, the time could be used towards other things. According to The Island of Inventions and The Pearl , no matter how hard or how much work and time you put into a dream you desperately want to come true it has a chance of not happening. There will always be a person or group people who tell you your dream is not worth it and it ll not do you any good in life. As time passed the disappointment of not being sent the letter gave, but even after that no invitation came . These are words from The Island Of Inventions it s tell us if we spend our entire life waiting for something that will possibly never come it ll end up disappointing us. You spend all this time hoping and wishing that it s possible, but that s the thing about dreams we sometimes need to get slapped back into reality and realize that the work you put into a dream that doesn t come true, comes back to you only to you and remind you everything you ve put into it wasn t worth it or worth your time. We need to face reality and be okay with the things we have. Because if we don t we could end up losing everything we love, just to get something better when we already have everything that we need. • 4. Comparing The Etruscan Civilization Between C. 1000 And... 1.The Etruscan civilization flourished between c. 1000 and 100 B.C. also known as the Iron Age (Villanovan) in Etruria or what is now known as modern day Tuscany, Italy. Etruria s southern area was bordered by the Tiber River and its northern area was bordered by the Arno River in which the areas were broken up into city states ruled by their own rulers. 2.The Apollo of Veiiis a 5ft. 10 in. painted sculpture molded out of terra cotta. This sculpture was originally a decoration on the roof of a temple built by the Etruscans. Both the Greek and Etruscan s style of art was similar, with that being said the particular sculpture is a resemblance of the Greek Archaic style of art. The curvilinear style along with the flat surface patterns of the folds of the drape/ clothes he was wearing, the diagonal calf muscles radiating from beneath the knee, the smile, and the style in which the hair was made (long locks) are the same characteristics of Archaic Greek art. The difference between the Etruscan and Greek art form lies in the clear and crisp contours, forms and stylization, of Apollo s body along with the fact that he is depicted as striding (showing fluid flowing movement). This is also what makes the sculpture of Apollo of Veii realistic because the sculpture not only shows fluid motion (the position of his legs and his stretched out arms) but also the expression that is on Apollo s face. 3.Women are portrayed more equal to men, and have a place in Etruscan society unlike ... • 6. The Odyssey The Odyssey In Homer s epic, The Odyssey, each culture treats strangers and guests with distinct differences from every other culture. One of the most hospitable cultures was that of the ancient Greeks, exemplified in Homer s The Odyssey by both gracious hosts and guests. In Greece and The Odyssey , not only was good hospitality etiquette expected, but the added pressure that if they didn t treat their guests with respect the gods would punish them further compelled excellent manners. The Odyssey illustrates the proper etiquette when dealing with guests. In Homer s ancient Greece their are many steps that a host must follow to complete proper guest host relations, these steps aren t enforced but are expected. When a stranger comes to ... As a guest, Odysseus is very selfish and inconsiderate towards his hosts. Throughout the duration of Odysseus absence, the suitors are treated well, and in response to this, they refuse to leave when asked. The suitors are fed and housed, and after a number of years they overstay their welcome. In response to this Telemachus, prompted by Athena, informs the suitors that his father is returning home and they are all to vacate Odysseus home. The suitors, in turn, ignore him and continue to eat drink and be merry, at the cost of Telemachus and Penelope s household. What are the consequences of these actions taken by the suitors? Although the primary consequence is their death, they also lose the hand of Penelope. None of them are able to pass the test of stringing the bow of Odysseus except Odysseus himself. This is followed by the main consequence of the suitors execution at the hands of Odysseus and Telemachus. By not respecting the hospitality given by Penelope, they set the stage for their own deaths. This is quite possibly a reference to the fact that they saw hospitality as a way to honor the gods; giving hospitality to a stranger was the same as offering it to a god. Zeus being the god of hospitality, one of the primary ways to worship this aspect of Zeus godliness was to be hospitable to strangers and travelers. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Design/methodology/approach (mandatory): The researchers make use case methodology in the motion picture industry. To cite examples, consumer goods companies distribute free product samples, apparel brands offer a fitting room, automobile manufacturers offer test drives, motion picture industry releases theatrical trailers, cosmetic brands offer makeovers, software firms offer limited period trials and so on. While the marketing literature confirms product trial efficacy over advertising (Marks and Kamins 1988; Smith 1993; Wright and Lynch 1995), the extant literature does not have an answer to questions that marketing practitioners may have Why consumers tend to dislike products after an initial positive response during product trial? Why consumers tend to start developing an affinity for products over extended use despite having not liked them during the initial trial? This exploratory study is an attempt to understand whether consumers use different yardsticks to evaluate product trial experience and post purchase consumption experience. More specifically, the study reviews product trial and post purchase evaluation and presents a discussion in the context of consumer satisfaction literature. The study also reviews conceptual definitions of electronic word of mouth (eWOM) and presents a discussion around the extant literature in the motion picture industry. • 8. The Beginning Of The 21st Century The 21st Century, the time period that we all live in today, smothered in continuous social, economic and political issues. An interesting era for films of this genre is the late 1930 s to early 1940 s which we see reflections in the literature today. War World 2 was a turning point in history and was a time of sheer horror in many places such as Spain, Germany, Poland and Eastern Europe. In today s age, contemporary literature writers often draw their inspiration and ideas from the writers that have gone before them. As a result, many works of 21st literature face the events and movements from the past in order for them to make sense of the present. The two connections that are very apart in all four of my texts is power and control and the theme of hope. The way that each of these connections have been linked throughout the late 1930 s time period based texts show how important they are into understanding what is still happening in the 21st century. The texts that I have chosen to study are The Book Thief , Pan s Labyrinth , The Pianist and Defiance . The reason I have chosen to study these are to shed light onto why 21st century literature quite often seem to take ideas from the past to help make sense for the future as you have to know the past to understand the present. As stated by James Meade In the 1930 s one was aware of two great evils mass unemployment and the threat of war. The late 1930 s was a time of war, a time of distress and a time of loss. ... The poem Originally, published in The Other Country (1990), draws specifically from memories of Duffy s family s move from Scotland to England when she and her siblings were very young. The first born child, Duffy was just old enough to feel a deep sense of personal loss and fear as she traveled farther and farther away from the only place she had known as home and the family neared its alien destination. This sentiment is captured in Originally, in which it is described in the rich detail and defining language of both the child who has had the experience and the adult who recalls... The unfamiliar, snowy weather and artificial neon lights create the impression for the immigrant that the country moved to is coming to bits . This image of fragmentation is, though, not entirely imaginary as he or she has a life splintered from all that is familiar and constantly experiences a sense of alienation. The italicised words at the close of the poem give voice to the immigrant but this only gives away a difficulty with English. The unfinished verbs, Me not know and It like they only... are drawn attention to by Duffy in order that the reader may ponder what it would be like to face the same language problem. The final words of the poem, Imagine that remind us of the opening and there is quite a clear impression that Duffy is adopting an undisguised didactic stance. As a skilled and empowered user of the English language herself she is drawing attention to the lot of those who are marginalised because of their deficiency in its use. • 10. The Concept Of Emotional Branding The concept of emotional branding refers to the relationship and connection people have with certain brands. Built through strategic marketing and communications, brands have been able to develop campaigns that shape attitudes of its audiences that drive decision making and behaviour. The concept stems from the realization that many customers do not, in fact, make buying decisions through a purely rational approach, focusing solely on the financials, and attributes of products, but rather, these decisions are influences in large part by their emotions. While many purchasing decisions are certainly influenced by the subconscious emotions of the consumer, emotional branding can also determine the strength and length of a customer... This is a great example of what could happen to an automotive firm that focuses solely on the attributes of its vehicles and ignoring the potential of emotional branding. There is little doubt that Volvo could have leveraged its position as a leader in safety to develop strong emotional marketing communications and messaging, but it has failed to do so, forcing the brand to rethink the way it positions itself relative to its competition. Conversely, German automaker, BMW, has been successful at capturing the hearts and minds of consumers through its Ultimate Driving Machine campaign which feature its vehicles driving through opulent scenery with a focus on posh and luxurious interiors, suggesting that their cars are the ultimate status of success and that working hard deserves to be rewarded with the best. Moreover, BMW s commitment to post purchase service and customer experience (BMW offers owners Driver Training where they can drive their cars around a closed track at ungodly speeds) has had significant returns, with the brand experiencing the highest rates of repurchase of any luxury car brand. Hamlet is a wealthy prince, however he deals with the problems similar to the common man. He is confused, paranoid, and angered about the circumstances surrounding the death of his father. He is also unsure of himself and how he should handle the situation. His inability to act on his father s extortion has him reluctant to kill King Claudius. • 31. The Life Of Fredrick Douglass, An American Slave Ironically inhumane. Maybe not ironic at all. Forced labor of humans being considered humane almost seems impossible. Everyone is human, they feel pain, excitement, emotion, actually maybe not emotion. Emotions are typically innate, sadness, happiness, but what about empathy? Slavery brought extreme empathy to some, but showed the void of empathy in others. Those lacking empathy can either be violent or depressed. They cannot feel for others, have no reason to try to find a connection. One major question exists, is empathy a learned emotion? Throughout the moving, enlightening, and harsh Fredrick Douglass autobiography, Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave, the former slave truly reflects on what the public is being kept from hearing about: actual slave attitudes. Written in 1845, around the time the strongest abolitionist movements were in the beginning stages, the recently freed slave provided a semi live feed of what reality for the slave is truly like. With his stories of an abandoned childhood and an under privileged education, Douglass provides the reader with the feelings, sights, and smells of living in his shoes. Taking a retrospective view of the topic, one can jump to the conclusion of slaverybeing an obvious example of inhumane labor, and one that needed to be dismantled immediately. Many people have had near death experiences. A lot of near death experiences have certain things in common that occur during and afterward. Some of these things are: change in priorities, time distortion, and fear. These are the three most common things to experience. Change in priorities is the thing that you hold more important than any other thing in your life changes to something different. After Tom Benecke had his near deathexperience he saw spending time with his wife was more important than a piece of paper. As he saw the yellow paper, the pencil flying, scooped off the desk and, unimpeded by the glassless window, sail out into the night and out of his life, Tom Benecke burst into laughter and then closed the door behind him. • 35. The Anatomy of Homo Sapiens is Unique The anatomy of Homo sapiens is unique in several ways and sets us apart from other species all across the world. One of the most distinguishing characteristics that differentiates Homo sapiens from other species is the utilization of bipedal locomotion. Humans have established a unique way of moving from one location to another that is due to the evolution numerous anatomical developments over millions of years. Hominid bipedalismhas evolved as a product of natural selection, a theory coined by Charles Darwin in 1859. This theory of evolution through the process of natural selection explains that some organisms are more reproductively fit than others. Therefore, these organisms are able to pass on their beneficial genes to the next generation. Essentially, traits that give certain organisms specific advantages, such as bipedalism in hominids, will be selected for in greater numbers, and therefore more individuals in the succeeding populations will display these beneficial traits (Darwin 1859). Darwin s theory can be used to help describe the central idea behind the fascinating transformation process from quadrupedalism to bipedalism. One of the most intriguing aspects surrounding this topic is the multiple different hypotheses for the evolution from quadrupedal gait to bipedal locomotion. Due to the fact that evidence suggests that the emergence of bipedalism occurred as early as 6 millions years ago, there have been many hyptotheses as to how the earliest hominids ... When he was 25, Muhammad married a 40 year old business women, Khadijah, while living out his days as a merchant. As the state of life in Mecca could at times be overwhelming, Muhammad discovered a cave in Hira, which he used to disconnect from Mecca through meditation. During a routine visit to the cave, Muhammadwas visited by an angel, in human form, who revealed Muhammad as God s messenger, urging him to relay the words of Allah to the citizens of Mecca and beyond. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bedouin had little interest in conventional religion, as speculation of supernatural higher powers did not make any impact on their difficult environment (Reading 3, page 15). Because of their harsh, nomadic lifestyle, the Bedouin instead evolved a chivalric code, which, seeing as they were extremely communal, stressed the importance of protecting and avenging the tribe (Reading 3, page 15). However, this chivalric code, known as Muruwah, only encouraged bravery and selflessness within the context of the tribe, paying no attention to universal human rights (Reading 3, page 16). As such, there were great acts of violence committed between various tribes, who following their own special brands of Muruwah, were obligated to defend any actions of their tribal brethren. The prophet Muhammad, a Bedouin himself, saw that the barbarity of the tribes was not conducive to prosperity in Arabia. In his final sermon at mount Arafat in Mecca, prophet Muhammad relayed to listeners his message, at one point saying, every Muslim is a brother to every Muslims and Muslims constitute one brotherhood (Reading 2, page 11). The concept of brotherhood spoke clearly to the Bedouin, as it was inline with their cultural traditions. Because the prophet was one of them and his message of stressing community related to them, the Bedouin bought into the monotheistic religion of Islam. Similar to the situation in the United States, many impoverished families are caught in a cycle where being born into poverty means your resources are less accessible than that of someone born into money. As a result, the young people remain impoverished throughout their lives and have children that face the same struggle continuing the cycle.. Victims have been compared to a professional tool at the disposal of the lawyers, judges and court officials which would imply that cases have been taken by the professionals of the system and that victims have lost participation in their own cases. That way, people who forget will be reminded to include this in their everyday routine. The consumers would be able to take the floss out. We think this is going to be the outcome because 30% of adults say they do not have it in handy, now they do! Conclusion Our solution was successful, but there was some things that could be fixed. Our suggested solution to the problem was successful because we were able to remove the floss successfully, keep the dental floss cutter in place, and we were able to remind the user to floss. When we tested this product, there was some things that could have been improved. When in use, water got to the bottom, and slightly removed the glue. To fix this, we could put a cover at the end, so it would prevent the water from going in. It was also difficult to take the floss out of the product, but it was possible. Next time, we could make an opening big enough so users do not have a problem with taking the floss out. Some possible problems noticed in the test is that the floss could slip to the very bottom, and it would be extremely difficult to get out. To fix this, we could put a slit near the dental floss cutter to prevent the floss from accidentally going to the bottom. Another difficulty that is most likely to come off is having to ... The first of these problematic circumstances is the breeding of feelings of discontent in one s own company as Ariel finds that life in her underwater kingdom is simply not enough if she cannot have the love of a practical stranger. This idea encourages women to lower their standards for men in their romantic endeavors simply to make themselves feel as though they are desirable. However, if the audience is made aware of the flaws in the design of the main character s ideals of what makes a positive and functioning relationship, the film presents an opportunity for the audience to elaborate on the detriment brought upon the main character by her own disregard for self preservation and lacking consideration for thoughts beyond that of hasty, misguided affection or preventable sacrifice; regrettably, young children are often incapable of grasping this complex this complex approach to the film. Instead they take what is presented to them at face value and apply it to themselves in that respect alone; had The Little Mermaid been intended for older audiences, this approach would appear more logical, but since its target audience is young children, the effect of inverting the messages in the film to acknowledge societal flaws is lost, and the results left upon young viewers is less ...
