Undertaking Strategic Planning
Formulate a process for undertaking strategic planning in your area of interest. What is the need
for strategic planning at this time? Which actors should be involved? How do you apply the steps
and procedures discussed in Berman Chapter 4 to your process? Which steps would you undertake
to ensure that conditions for success are in place?
There is a need for strategic planning on a continuous basis, not only for organizations, but also for
departments or sections within organizations. The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency went through
very thorough strategic planning upon its inception and continues to update that plan on an annual
basis. The strategy section, by extension engages in strategic planning in order to meet the goals set

Corruption Of British Rule And Imperialism In George...
Corruption of British Rule and Imperialism: The killing of an Elephant Shooting an Elephant
explores the parallels between Britain s imperialism and a British officer s moral quandary with
killing an elephant. Orwell s use of political critique is not lost in Shooting an Elephant. George
Orwell s distrust and dislike of British rule is a common theme in most of his works like 1984 and
Animal Farm, and is the hidden main idea of the Shooting an Elephant. By using themes of tyranny
and conscience and symbols like the elephant Orwell conveys his contempt for Britain and
imperialismas a whole.
Shooting an Elephant takes place in 1920 s Burma which is now known as Myanmar. At this time
Burma had lost a sixty year fight with Britain and was under British rule. The Burmese people and
the British officers that keep them in line are in a constant state of tension with each other. George
Orwell was a British soldier in Burma from 1922 to 1927 (Kozak 64) much like the main
character of this essay. Shooting an Elephant is written in first person, and in this way, the essay
can be seen as an autobiography. Orwell has long been known for is distrust of government, and
uses this distrust in his writings. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell conveys the life of a British
soldier in Burma and the struggle of obtaining power from a source that is hated. In many of
Orwell s writings his distaste for government is accompanied by a fondness for the lower class. The

Reimbursement Strategies
Employers often cover the cost of employee outlays for certain expenditures they incur while doing
their job. The way in which employers handle these reimbursements can produce significant tax
savings for both the company and employees. Two reimbursement strategies: accountable vs. non
accountable plans Companies can cover employees expenses in two ways: through an accountable
plan or a non accountable plan. An accountable plan is a reimbursement arrangement adopted by
the company that requires employees to substantiate their business related expenses to the company
within a reasonable time (no more than 60 days from the date of the expense) and to refund to the
company any excess advances within a reasonable period (no more than 120 days

This site was 1,114 metres above sea level and had a bearing of 39 South and 175 East. The site
was right next to the car park and the start of the Tongariro crossing track. The temperature was
16.1 degrees C which was a warm enough for a large amount of vegetation to grow. There was a
wind speed of 4.6 metres per second. The vegetation was very dense with about 80% heather, 10%
tussock grass, 8% bare ground, 1% light green moss and 1% dark moss. This helped me to
understand the effect that heather had on the other vegetation in this area. Scotch Heather was
planted in Tongariro Park from 1912 1922 to provide a habit for grouse, a medium to large game
bird. Although the birds were never introduced, the plant flourished and formed thick stands that
shade out native plants. It is now listed as an unwanted organism under the Bio Security Act 1993.

To Kill A Mockingbird Psychology
One of the most renowned elements of entertainment was the theatre. Getting the chance to see a
movie was a great experience not easily forgotten. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper
Lee, Dill, a small child, is able to see the movie Dracula. Shortly after seeing the movie he runs
away from home, and knowing that his friends understand his love of the movies, he tells Jim, a
close friend, Think they re still searchin all the picture shows in Meridian. Dill grinned (140). A
level of pride is developed in Dill when he can gloat to everyone that he has watched a picture
show. For the more mature audience during the Dust Bowl Era, attending a movie was a simple
diversion. Claire Ellerton states, During the depression going to the movies

The Fruitless Pursuit of The Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II
I. Introduction:
Glinting orange through the green creepers, the Kombi family s mud hut is barely visible now.
Alphonse Kombi was murdered by militiamen in February. His wife, Bimosa, watched them eat
his heart before they raped her, neighbours say. The trauma drove her insane. Two of the Kombis
four children had already died of malnutrition. Then, a fortnight ago, a distant relative came to
collect the two survivors an emaciated eight year old and four year old... I have come to try to
prevent these ones from dying, said Mr Kiyana, pointing to the two boney forms slumped on the

Not only are these ideas full of ambiguity, they are also idealistic in that both compassion and
solidarity fail to incorporate the human natural instinct to survive. However, even if these concepts
did provide a realistic solution, the Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II are still going in the wrong
direction, because if they were to try and end the million homicides occurring worldwide, their
efforts would need to be collaborative.
II. The Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II:
Tezin Gyatso, the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet, was born in Amdo, China on
July 6, 1935 into a peasant family. At the age of two, Gyatso was recognized as the reincarnation
of the 13th Dalai Lama, and therefore an incarnation of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of
Compassion. Gyatso s life as the Dalai Lama began when he was enthroned at the age of four in
Lhasa. However his political responsibilities did not arise until 1950 when thousands of soldiers
of the People s Liberation Army invaded Lhasa. In 1959, the Tibetans held the largest
demonstration against China s invasion of their home, therefore declaring Tibet s already
established independence. This was known as the Tibetan National Uprising, which was crushed
by the Chinese army. As a result, Gyatso and over 100,000 Tibetans fled across the Himalayas and
into India where His Holiness was given political asylum.

Pediatric Emergency Medicine Personal Statement
Eighteen years it took me to become a pediatric emergency medicine specialist. As my journey in
academics started, I faced the challenge and responsibility of being a single parent. Seeking
opportunities to learn about economics and finance, I did what came naturally to me, which was
study. Eighteen months of doing the unthinkable : working full time, studying full time, and raising
a six year old, was the most exhausting and yet the most inspiring time of my life. Travelling to
Asia to write a thesis comparing the Japanese and American health insurance industry, added a
global flavor to my knowledge of medicine.
Fueled by an interest in research, I received a scholarship for Ph.D. studies after medical school.
Life events interrupted this journey, making it necessary to move from cities, and even countries. I
made an unthinkable move to Australia, right after being promoted at the university. Each change
has required patience and persistence, forcing me to look beyond hurdles and seek opportunities
for growth. As a foreign medical graduate, in two countries, I have had to prove my skill as a
physician and my specialist fellowships in both the U.S. and Australia substantiates this. Through
every stage of my training and academic career, I have sought out opportunities to further my
understanding of the science behind the practice of medicine. ... Show more content on

The Insanity of the Temporary Insanity Defense Essay
Not Guilty, By reason of Insanity! These words have stung the ears of many courtroom observers,
especially the families and friends of victims whose lives were snuffed out by a so called insane
assailant. While there are indeed many insane people running around the streets today, I feel that
many persons who use the temporary insanity defenseare more conniving than insane. Also, being
an inexact science, the psychiatric community often offers up differing opinions as to any
particular individual s sanity. Furthermore, money or lack thereof can play a major role in the
success or failure of an insanity defense. The temporary insanity defense should therefore be
abolished, especially for felony offenses such as murder. What... Show more content on

Below are listed some of the defenses that have received a great deal of media attention over the
past few years. First, Roid Rage is characterized by severe mood swings related to steroid use.
This defense lessened the sentence of 19 year old Troy Gentzler, who admitted throwing rocks
at cars on the highway injuring several people. Secondly, Black Rage is defined at racial
prejudice induced insanity. Lawyers for Colin Ferguson, the black man who killed five white
people and one Asian American and wounded nineteen others on a Long Island railroad wanted
to use this plea but Ferguson decided to mount his own defense. Next, there s Urban Survival
Syndrome which is described as the fear that inner city black people have of other black people.
A Fort Worth jury ended up deadlock in the case of 19 year old Daimion Osby, a black man who
shot two other unarmed black men in a parking lot. The so called Meek make Syndrome is the
psychological emasculation of the man by his spouse. By using this defense, a man in Los
Angeles had the charge of murder reduced to voluntary manslaughter in the death by beating
(with a wrench) of his wife. His lawyers claimed that she had destroyed his self esteem by
calling him names and forcing him to sleep on the floor. Fetal Trimethadione Syndrome , the

lawyers of a 14 year old boy who beat to death another 14 year old boy. The

Time Series Forecasting And Neural Networks
Abstract
Time series forecasting plays an important role in the academic and practical domains. Many
researchers have studied on this area from several years. There are many models which are used to
improve the accuracy of time series forecasting. In this paper, I have focused on one method i.e.
Neural Networks. In the first section of the report, I will give brief introduction on time series
forecasting and neural networks. In the next part, I will explain this neural method which is used
for forecasting in the literature review. At last, I will conclude the paper. Moreover, the main aim
of this paper is to define the neural network method among the different methods in the time series
forecasting.
Introduction
Time series forecasting is a quantitative model. It means that historical results are gathered to
produce the results to predict the future. This model is used in that situation where no
information is available or provided data is not satisfactory. Time series is a series of
experiments which is measured to get successive results such as, x1, x2, x3.......Xt 2, Xt 1 Xt.
These experiments may be done every day, every hour or every year. It is important to understand
the data pattern to achieve the aim that hoe variables behaved in the past. It has two types of
models which are linear and non linear. Moreover, linear methods are easy to construct and
understand. This is used when there are a huge number of forecasts to be done. Many researchers
have done efforts to

Why Is Gallipoli Successful
The galipoli campaign lasted from April 25th until the end of January 2016.. The campaign was
a disaster and was understood as unsuccessful. Upon arrival at Anzac cove soldiers noticed the
very steep terrain above the beach. There are many reasons why the campaign was unsuccessful.
One of the reasons is the unorganised planning and poor command. The main prolem was the
Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (MEF) as the size of the force was far too little for the
operation. Normally in warfare the attacker needs to have a bigger size team then the defender
however the MEF only hade 70, 000 men which was equivalent to one fifth of the opposing team.

Mobile Payments Are Becoming An Upcoming New Trend

Wireless Payment Wallet Share
December 1, 2014
Mobile payments are becoming an upcoming new trend when it comes to technology. Mobile
payments allow its users to pay for their daily needs with their phone without having to carry cash,
let alone, their wallets around. However, the United States has been delaying the adaptation of
mobile payments due to the fact that many different retailers have developed their own form of
mobile payments as opposed to a universal approach. While many countries in Europe and Asia
have successfully adopted mobile payments, United States still are behind in the trend.
Introduction:
As technology grows, so do the consumers. Consumers rely so much on easy shopping and
simplified checking out possibilities that application developers have started to develop more
mobile payment applications. These mobile payments are the technology of the future and yet
the United States is still lagging behind in the rush to simplify shopping from a plastic card to a
mobile app. However, with such developers from Apple and Google, there are applications where
the mobile phone can stand as a wallet, but retailors do not necessarily choose a universal
application to use. With Apple Pay and Google Wallet actively used, many retailors have opted to
convert their merchandise to be payable with such applications .

Plato on Censorship
Since the rise of man, the concept of art has also arisen. With it, the goods and troubles it causes.
Some argue that art is good and is only entertainment, while others see it as the cause of a State s
corruption. In Plato s The Republic , Socrates thought that art should be censored because of its
heavy influence on men. Writer Alexander Nehamas, on the other hand, feels that one generation s
entertainment is the next s fine art, which he thinks is ridiculous to censor. But the biggest question
that remains is: when does art stop being art?
Platonic censorship is based mainly on excluding forms of art and literature from society, based on
the components they include that portray bad role models and blasphemies, topics not ... Show more

The fact is that the works of both Homer and Aeschylus, whatever else they were in classical
Athens, were, first and foremost, popular entertainment. (Nemaha, 3) Nemaha says that
entertainment was basically just a representation of their world. To compare the Iliad... to Grand
theft auto...may seem silly if not absurd (Nemaha, 4) Nehama restates that fine art is meant to
change people, and entertainment is just to please. Art should not be censored it allows us to
express ourselves, and a world without imagination would be a dull one, with depraved life .
My personal opinion is that art should NOT be censored. It is good to have bad art in order to
show the youth what is not acceptable and what is. This way we can create a better future for the
children without leaving them so hopelessly innocent minded. In another way, I think you should
not be able to label someone else s work as good or bad art. I, just like article writer Jeff Goins,
think, what is not okay is calling something art when it s not when it is, in fact, something else. (Jeff

while on the other side, Mikhail did not. When it came down to it Gorbachev ended up agreeing

The Current State of the CHinese Economic System
The current state of the Chinese economic system has drawn international attention and praise due
to its overwhelmingly positive statistical growth. This growth, according to the nation s leader,
stems from what its government calls strides toward common prosperity. As of 2013, China s
leaders proclaim to be moving toward a state of theoretical consciousness. In China, consistency and
persistence is promoted over spontaneity within the confines of a sound economic structure, which
has created a fertile ground for socialism to grow. A recent documentary composed by a
conglomerate of media outlets, depicts the current economic landscape of China. Its story unravels
to present the growing city of Shanghaias progressive, oppressive, and modern; yet, its growth has
been rooted in older communist practices, given to much economic success and an uncertain future
( City of Dreams ). The changes that have taken place in modern China since the late 1970 s has
grown its economy to unprecedented ends, and by unprecedented means. The transformation into
an industrialized capitalistic society has catapulted its development into an uncharted realm,
prompting much discussion on its future impact on the world at large. In the following report, we

You will undoubtedly wish to add/subtract to this paper. I received a high grade on this but it was

course concepts that suggest alternatives that actors in this case could choose, as relevant to where

Kirkham had a strategy on paper, but it was too vague to help select which New Product

Kirkham Instruments needed to become more closely coordinated between each division with
regards to the design of new features and the market introduction of the products while also
coordinating the development of new equipment with the analytical software features desired by
the customers Kirkham s strategy was to integrate the different systems of each division into an all
inclusive product and also to involve all the divisions together with regards to product
development, instead of letting each division be responsible for just products within that division.
Mr. Donaldson chose Kathleen Quinn, Vice President of R D, to be responsible for coordinating the
development of new products. This proved to be quite a challenging task considering that each
managing director (of each division) still retained responsibility for the turnover and profitability
of their respective decisions and also for the strategies to achieve the goals of their divisions. In
addition, regardless of the trend of their customers in purchasing integrated systems, the majority
of each division s turnover came from the sale of stand alone products. Again, Mr. Donaldson was

development for nearly a decade and instructed Ms. Quinn to invite them to conduct a seminar

The Kentucky Open Records Act Of 1976
Introduction
The Commonwealth of Kentucky enacted law governing open records in 1976. The law
mandates agencies release applicable records to the public upon appropriate requests. The
Louisville Metro Police Department adopted a policy to address and comply with this law. I will
review and discuss how LMPD applies its policy in order to stay in compliance with this law. I
will also evaluate any improvements to the policy for better or more efficient application.
Summary of law
Kentucky s open records laws are covered under Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) 61.870 61.884.
The law was enacted as a result of the Kentucky Open Records Act of 1976. In summary, the law
requires government agencies to release records for public examination. Specifically, KRS
61.871 states The General Assembly finds and declares that the basic policy of KRS 61.870 to
61.884 is that free and open examination of public records is in the public interest and the
exceptions provided for by KRS 61.878 or otherwise provided by law shall be strictly construed,
even though such examination may cause inconvenience or embarrassment to public officials or
others. The records include documents, photographs, recordings, and reports. The law details how
government agencies are required to respond to requests, which records are exempt, application of
fees and an appeal process for denied requests. The main source of requests comes from media
sources and attorneys however anyone can make a request.

Why Is Standard Oil Unethical
A monopoly is the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service.
Durning its time, Standard Oil gained almost complete control of oil refining and marketing in the
United States through a process called horizontal integration. Horizontal integration is a strategy
where a company creates or acquires production units for outputs which are alike. In the kerosene
industry, Standard Oilused it s own vertical system. It supplied kerosene to local markets by tank
cars and tank wagons then delivered to retail customers (McGuire and Wheeler). The end result was
that the quality and availability of kerosene products were improved and the cost to the public was
reduced, but it created intense controversy about the business... Show more content on

DISCUSSION
The primary aim of this study was to observe the force characteristics occurring during the SL
under different attentional focus conditions. Data was collected in a controlled laboratory setting
where conditions were counter balanced with participants. It was hypothesized that lifters would
have a larger propulsive impulse and max rate of force production in an external AF environment.
The null hypotheses were accepted due to no significant differences in force characteristics during
the SL from attentional focus cues. In order for optimal force generation to occur lifters must

The current study used symmetry index as an indicator of coordination but no differences were
found between the conditions. Another measure of coordination has been seen in research using

external focus shots were more accurate and EMG activity was lower with biceps and triceps19. In
another study, Wulf et al. had participants complete the vertical jump and reach task and measured
their jump height and EMG activity of lower limb musculature. Their findings showed participants
jumped higher and had EMG activity generally lower when focusing attention externally compared
to focusing attention internally20. Lastly, Marchant et al. had participants complete isokinetic
elbow flexion contractions using a Biodex. Authors reported a net joint torque at the elbow was
larger and the EMG activity of the bicep brachii was decreased under external AF conditions 21.
None of the studies above measured force production but claim enhanced neuromuscular control
allowed for greater force generation. Therefore, when directing attention externally during max
force generation tasks, muscle coordination patterns are optimized producing more efficient and

Roman Catholic Church Research Paper
The Roman Catholic Church is ruled by the Pope in Vatican City, Rome. He rules over all Catholic
Churches in the world and many Catholics make it their life long dream to visit Vatican City one
day and to attend Mass with the Pope. The origin of this Christian denomination leads all the way
back to apostolic times. The rituals that the Roman Catholic Churchhas are very similar to Christian
rituals which include baptism and confirmation. Most Catholics who attend the Roman Catholic
Churchfollow and obey the Bible and the way in which their church interprets it. The Roman

Free will is the power of making free choices unconstrained by external agencies. For the
Catholics this statement is good for them as they are free to do good or evil. But for Protestants,
this is not the case. They are only free to do good things. Predestination is being determined in
advance where God chooses what will happen to you in life and what happens to you in the after
life. Catholics believe that your predestination is based on God s foreknowledge of you and your
actions while Protestants believe that your predestination is related to God s decrees. The
interpretation of the Bible is different as the Catholic interpretation includes apocrypha which are
books of the Bible that are added in to the Old Testament. While Protestants omit these 14 books
of the Bible. These are just a few differences between the Protestants and the beliefs of the Roman
Catholic Church. Marriage is accepted in both religions and shows the unity of two people and
shows their beliefs and sacrifices for God. Divorce on the other hand, is accepted by Protestants but
discouraged and is accepted as evidence of human weakness. While with Catholics, divorce is
looked down upon unless there is some canonical obstruction in which an annulment may be
granted in this situation. Eucharist is the

Propaganda In The Poisonwood Bible
35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy once said We must never forget that
art is not a form of propaganda; it is a form of truth (John). Though the art medium of writing,
Barbara Kingsolver sheds light on the toxic reality of propaganda and its effects. She does this
through the ostentatious character of Nathan Price, a religious zealot placed in Kilanga on a
mission to spread Christianity. He represents a poisoned mind, corrupted by the beliefs of his
government. In Barbara Kingsolvers The Poisonwood Bible, Nathan Price s despotic personality is
the result of exposure to American propaganda and government prior to his years in the Congo.

savior, He believes that civilization comes to Africa only from without, from its colonizers who
import their superior cultures: The Belgians and American business brought civilization to the

Nathan s ineffectiveness in Kilanga leads him to the conclusion that the Congolese are the problem

considers Africa as inadequately evolved, backward, primitive a childish culture dwarfed by its

The Need For Justice Essay
The clash between good and evil perpetually permeates humanity. Balance of these forces through
equality and tranquility is a goal sought after to amend injustice. Impartiality creates balance within
a society. In addition, fairness through the application of law is a cornerstone of countless
civilizations. The members of civilizations taught moralities through the tenets of religion heavily
influence their integrity. The many manifestations and interpretations of righteousness confirm the
eternal goal of civilization to do good unto others. Justice restores and perpetuates humanity s high

(Andrews 491) Civilization s need for justice derives from the need for democracy, which
promotes equality. Reinhold Niebuhr, an American social thinker ( Niebuhr, Reinhold ) said,
Man s capacity for justice makes democracy possible, but man s inclination to injustice makes
democracy necessary . (The Oxford Dictionary 362) This is evident in the government of the
United States. At first only white men could partake in government. This appalling inequality
led to African Americans and women demanding the right to vote and stopping the injustice
brought against them. In the movie 12 Angry Men, the story of a trial with a jury of varying
backgrounds and beliefs, justice is a theme at the forefront. Juror #8: It s always difficult to keep
personal prejudice out of a thing like this. And wherever you run into it, prejudice always
obscures the truth. I don t really know what the truth is. I don t suppose anybody will ever really
know. Nine of us now seem to feel that the defendant is innocent, but we re just gambling on
probabilities we may be wrong. We may be trying to let a guilty man go free, I don t know.
Prejudice is shown throughout history and in this movie; Juror #6 has a prejudice against
Hispanics and wishes to rid the streets of them while Juror #12 was attacked by his teenage son
and believes all teenagers are evil. As Niebuhr said, mans capacity for injustice is demonstrated
through his prejudices against others. Democracy

Sexism In Colleges
As a black person, an agender person, and an asexual person, one can assume that with the
research that I have done into the diversity and acceptance of minorities at college campuses
would be met with smiling brown faces lying down in Ivy League quads and LGBTQA+
students organizing themselves under a rainbow flag as school administration looked on. This is
exactly what I have found in college viewbooks and within the little pamphlets that urge students
to pay a $75 application fee in order to seize their future at a progressive campus, because success is
a choice . But with deeper research into college life, I was met with different reports of racism,

For example, at Augusta University, women only compose 56 out of 148 administrative posts, and
only 647 of the 1,481 teaching posts were filled by women or people of an nonbinary gender
(Workplace Profile). The fact that women are so poorly represented in cases like this can have a
great effect on the gender diversity of the university and the feelings of systematic sexism that
students feel on campus. If female students don t see women in teaching positions, it can make
it seem as if they aren t truly a part of campus, and that they are in a male dominated area of
society. This can result in a sense of disentitlement in women and a sense of entitlement in men.
As a student, I can tell you that the mansplaining in Zeilinger s piece on sexism on campus, is a
real thing. Like Zeilinger says, men think it s their place to interrupt women and explain the
coursework as if they were a teacher instead of a student. This is a prime example of how the
sexism in faculty appointment leaks over into student life, because it makes nonbinary students
and women feel as if they are simply in a male space instead of in a space created and maintained
for all students regardless of gender, making them less involved in class discussions and
inadvertently allowing men to take away their

Pleasing Films for Historians and Mainstream Audiences
The transition from historical information to cinema is often a dangerous and controversial road,
few films are able to consistently please both historians and mainstream audiences. The topic of
Sino Japanese relations and China s anti Japanese war is frequently explored in the medium of
film. Films such as City of Life and Death, Norman Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Devils on the
Doorstep, The Last Emperor, Nanking, Flowers of War and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness all seek
to investigate this turbulent period in Chinese history and to reflect upon the many different
perspectives involved. Although the medium of film can never accurately portray history or ever
hope to achieve the detailed work of a scholarly source, it can provide an emotional understanding
of some of the most chaotic periods of human history. The Second World War involved more than
100 million people from thirty different countries resulting in the deadliest conflict in human
history. How can anyone make sense of that on paper other than listing the number of casualties?
Film, deeply aware of its limitations has become a different form of understanding the past, capable
of taking a particular event such as war and exploring universal themes. Historian Natalie Zemon
Davis states that: Historians want to chronicle what happened, to be sure, but also to explain why it
happened and what difference it made...Although there is an inevitable dialogue between the past

also realizes that her dog Pookie is also gone. As Bonnie, her mom, and the detective try to piece

decides to follow them to get her brother back once and for all. The author uses foreshadowing,

number of different reasons including giving background information, to show the character s

Shunning in the United States today seems like a usual to people today. It usually is done to the
popular or famous groups but sometimes is done to ordinary people who have done something
extremely bad. Some reasons why to shun people would be if a person commits a murder and got

tends to go away after a long time or after another person commits a worse crime. The Tour de
France is just one of the main races in the world that has been cheated on by the use of illegal
drugs. One of the main competitors in these races is Lance Armstrong. He is also one of the main
drugusers in these races as well. He won the Tour de France seven consecutive times in a row.
Some of the other riders and bystanders that watched these races questioned Lance Armstrongs

Essay on A Discourse of Remours for the Amorous
The great playwright Christopher Marlowe also wrote one of the most famous lyrical poems in
British literature, The Passionate Shepherd to His Love. In this pastoral portrait, Marlowe reveals
the shepherd s desire for a certain young lady to be his love. In The Nymph s Reply to the
Shepherd, Sir Walter Raleighvoices the young lady s answer to this invitation. The two poems share
the identical structures of rhyme scheme and meter. Also, the speakers share a similar desire for
youthful love. However, these similarities are overshadowed by the differences in the author s
backgrounds which, in turn, influence the starkly different characteristics of the speakers of the
poems their view of reality and their motive for love.

The few similarities in these two poems, however, are far overshadowed by the differences that
exist. When analyzing these differences, it is helpful to first examine the contrasts in the lives of
the authors. Christopher Marlowe was born into a lower class family, but his education enabled
him to work for a theatre company in London. From there, he became a dramatist, a poet, and a
playwright for the rest of his short life. Marlowe was known for the interesting company that he
kept. On the night of his death, he was with three friends a moneylender, a con artist, and a spy
for the Queen s secret service. The four of them were eating and got into an argument which
ended with Marlowe being stabbed and killed. Sir Walter Raleigh lived a quite different lifestyle.
He was an explorer who led an exhibition to the fabled City of Gold. He also founded several
colonies and named the territory of Virginia. This was done in honor of the virgin queen ,
Elizabeth I. This was no surprise because Raleigh was a favored suitor of the Queen. She gave
Raleigh the honorary title Sir and lavished him with money and land. However, the Queen
discovered that Raleigh was, in fact, not interested in her, but was instead interested in a lady
named Bess Thockmorton. Because of this, the Queen promptly had Raleigh imprisoned in the
Tower of London for thirteen years. His great

Respect
You firstly have to have respect for yourself before you can earn respect of others, in saying this
you have to see yourself as someone worthy of respect. This quality of management includes
consideration for other people s privacy, their physical space and belongings. In the same light it
also includes respecting different viewpoints, philosophies, physical ability, beliefs and
personality. Regardless of the quality or standard of work of the employee, respect still has to be
shown and the corrective procedures should be followed where need be but negative criticism
should definitely not be tolerated.
From experience in my market existence I have gathered that i still have quite a bit of learning to
do before I will excel at being a high quality and effective manager.
When I measure my emotional intelligence up to what it effectively should be then I can
comfortably say that I am not too far off from where it should be. I do understand that all humans

Abstract conceptualization is when we come to a decision about what we would do differently next
time. The way we would come to a decision is through further studying or staff development and
reading the right literature.
Active experimentation is the conclusion of our abstract conceptualization stage and provides the
platform that we can plan our changes. Once we have administered these changes we can then start
the cycle again and have some new concrete experiences.
Kolb also described how Lewin s action research and T group training in laboratories was
influenced by the concept of feedback that was used by electrical engineers. This feedback process
involved concrete experience; observations and reflections; formation of abstract concepts and
generalizations; and testing implications of concepts in new situations . The similarities with Kolb

Angiotensin 2 Research Paper
The RAS is a hormone system that is responsible for maintaining homeostasis in relation to
vasodilation or vasoconstriction, vascular or cardiac cell growth and mediating oxidative stress.
(Vlachogiannakos et. al. 2001) The RAS is under sympathetic nervous control and can be
influenced by an individuals weight, diet or amount of insulin. (White 2007) As illustrated by
figure 1, The RAS involves the release of angiotensinogen from the liver, which undergoes
cleavage by renin to produce Angiotensin I. This is then converted to angiotensin II by ACE.
Angiotensin II is a powerful vasoconstrictor as well as being able to induce vascular and cardiac

(White 2007) If there is an increased amount of angiotensin II circulating in the capillaries there will
be net dis inhibition of sympathetic nervous system outflow causing an inappropriately high blood

Mechanism of action
Under normal conditions ACE cleaves the C terminal dipeptide from angiotensin I to form the
active form octapeptide angiotensin II, ACE inhibitors prevents this cleavage. ACE I is found in
most tissues of the body with its highest concentrations being in the kidney and lungs. (Izzo Weir

Professional Athletes Should Be Allowed At The Olympic Games
With the multi billions of dollars that the Olympics earn and spend, it s certainly is in the best
interest of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to remain under the circumstances of
keeping sport open to professional athletes, not only financially, but as well as the majority of their

(1964) and official IOC reports as a basis for proving that professional athletes should be allowed to

To successfully understand what differentiates a professional athlete from an amateur athlete, and
the issues that arise from it, we must understand how the International Olympic Committee defines
a professional and amateur athlete. According to the Eligibility Rules of the International Olympic

c) If he does not comply with the Rules of the International Federation concerned, and the official
interpretations of this Rule number 26 . (Eligibility Rules of the International Olympic

Baseball Has Driven People Together
Throughout Kansas, families of all shapes and sizes can say this is what they love most about

spikes hitting the cement fills the air. These kids are ready to shed blood, sweat, and tears in the

parents near me, it is apparent that various ones are more serious and competitive then others. Some
parents just wear the colors of their child s team, and others have shirts that actually say the team
name. Although they all are quite different, they have one thing in common. They are willing to
suffer the heat filled air to support their children in their activities. Walking onto the field, the

Examine the Key Ideas of Situation Ethics
Examine the Key Ideas of Situation Ethics (21 Marks)
In this essay, I am going to examine the key features of Situation Ethics. Situation Ethics is a
teleological theory that resolves ethical and moral issues relative to the situation and was developed
at a time when society and the church were facing drastic and permanent change. It is most
commonly associated with Joseph Fletcher and J.A.T Robinson and also William Barclay. Situation
Ethics is also considered to be the method of ethical decision making that states that you must
consider noble love (agapГ©) in decision making and that a moral decision is correct if it is the
most loving thing to do. The theory is based upon this idea of agapГ© love which is defined by

Robinson and Paul Tillich suggested that God could be understood as the ground of our being , of
ultimate significance, but not a dues ex machine , a supernatural being who intervenes in the world
from outside it. In other words God is part of people not this almighty being who gives instructions
for us to follow.
Fletcher (who I will discuss later) used examples from the Bible to show that a strict application of
rules was no longer needed and was in line with what Jesus thought too. Fletcher used quotes from
the Bible as an illustration of old versus new morality. He used the example of the adulterous
woman when Jesus saved her from being stoned to death even though the law permitted it. This
situation is a clear example of Personalism which Fletcher used to illustrate his theory. Another
example that Fletcher identified from the Bible was when Jesus confronted the Pharisees over
what the Sabbath Day was intended for. In order to follow strict Jewish law absolutely nothing
could be done on this day, often to the detriment of people. Jesus wanted people to follow the

National Collegiate Athletic Association
Dr. Mark A. Emmert, since October of 2010 you have been the president of a great organization
by the name of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or NCAA for short. Prior to being the
president for the NCAA, it is known that you have made a great impact on the success of various
well known universities. While at the University of Washington, the university was second in
standings among all public and private institutions in research funding with $1 billion in grants and
contracts per year. With your experience in the financial field, you hold the potential to make the
NCAA a better organization for its most important habitants, the players. I believe that you, Dr.
Emmert, hold the key to better conditions for college athletes across the United States of America.
(Jcoram) Others that should join the cause are university presidents, athletic departments, sport
commissioners, and coaches as well. When it comes to the world of sports, all sports, many topics
come into debate when discussing the day to day issues facing athletes and their chosen careers.
Many concerns with athletes are usually two sided and are black and white arguments without
much gray area in between. Most of these issues with sport revolve around the athletes who play
them. Such problems that sports spectators argue about are the leagues and athletes choices and if
they are beneficiary to the sport that they consume. Many athletes of all levels make great sacrifices
for the sport that they play,

Waterfront Community Business Plan
6. Ipswich
Placed along the coast, this waterfront community is the site of the Sandy Point state Reservation
and the Willowdale State Forest. Because of the community s location, it is a popular site for real
estate investments and home developments. While the city is primarily residential, it has a strong
tourism industry. Investors can start a business that caters to tourists like a hotel, restaurant or shop.
During annual celebrations like the Ipswich Chowderfest, these kinds of investments earn a
respectable profit from the many tourists who flood the town.
Located in Essex County, this community is only 28 miles away from Boston. Meanwhile, Salem is
only 13 miles south of the city. Currently, investors can find properties in the area for a median
price of $510,000. In the last year, the median ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is bordered by Boxford on the west and Rowley on the north. Essex, Hamilton, Gloucester and
Topsfield form the southern border of the community. Residents will find the Willowdale State
Forest on the western side of the town. From the community, the closest thoroughfare is Interstate
94. Route 1 can be found along the western edge of town.
Many Types of Developments Are Available
Once investors locate the right property, they can transform it into a number of different
developments. Because of the recreational nature of this waterfront community, luxury condos are a
top investment option. Residents are drawn to the area because of its tranquility and seaside appeal.
With luxury condos or apartments, property owners can ensure a consistent income.
Other than residential structures, property owners can also create commercial businesses. Some of
the most successful businesses in town focus on hospitality and tourism, but there are still a
number of under served business needs in the town. From shopping options to restaurants, investors
have a number of potential options for creating a business in this

Several thrips species are known to feed on soybean (Glycine max
Merr.) and can cause yield reduction. Beside, the other important reason for thrips survey is to
determine its role as vectors of
Tospovirus in soybean. There is little information available about thrips species present on soybean
crop, and their abundance in Egypt.
Field survey took place at the farm of Agricultural Experiment
Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, Giza Governorate,
Egypt (season 2014) to survey the different thrips species. Soybean cv.
Giza 111 was sown in late May. The experimental area received all the usual agricultural practices
except for any pest control measures.
Thrips species associated with soybean were collected and differentiated to species. A total of 16
different thrips species was surveyed. These included 14 phytophagous and 2 predator thrips
species. The most abundant

Renewable Resources Disadvantages
Renewable resources are resources that have the ability to be used in infinite amounts because it is
recovered naturally. Renewable resources are important to the survival of the world since it comes
with positive outcomes and there is an infinite amount. An infinite amount of something and being
repreoduced naturally means that it gives individuals something that this world has created for
them. There are many different renewable resources, which include solar power, wind, geothermal
energy, tidal power, and more. The number one renewable resource that has stood out is
geothermal energy. This energy deals with heat and it is being stored naturally from earth itself.
This renewable resource has many advantages and as with everything there also comes
disadvantages. It will be shown that the advantages of this renewable resource benefits earth
rather then its disadvantages. Geothermal energy is a renewable resource whose heat generates
energy to be used. Heat and energy go one in one with each other. Energy is the capability to do
something. Energy comes in many different forms such as mechanical, chemical, nuclear, light,
and more. Energy most importantly comes in the form of having heat energy. This energy is
created because energy goes through many different phases to get its final reason to be used. An
example of this is flashlights or lightening in homes. The uniqueness of geothermal energy is how
its final product has come to be, where it comes from, and why it is so

The Moriori Research Paper
There were two groups who are the descendents of the Polynesians who are the Maori and the
Moriori who came into conflict with one another upon meeting eachother for the first time. The
Moriori people were living on the Chatham Islands which are 500 miles east of New Zealand.
They were for centuries living peacefully and independently until it all came to a brutal end for
them in December 1835. Five hundred Maori people armed wielding guns, axes, clubs along with
another 400 that arrived through ship invaded and killed off the Moriori people and announced
that they would be their slaves and that if anyone were to object them they would be killed; no
questions asked. The Moriori could have fought back in time and still defeated the Maori but

HR Practitioners Case Study
PRACTITIONERS FUNCTIONS HR Practitioners main objective is to achieve results that
tend to be high levels of trust, a strong sense of shared purpose and most importantly an
enhanced capacity for recruiting, retaining, motivating, and engaging an excellent an excellent
workforce that is willing to adapt to changed circumstances when necessary (Purcell et al.
(2003). HR Functions are important to an organisation it helps to increase employee
performance to their highest level according to their role. A Case study we did in class related to
this Topic, A matter of Choice showed the significant importance of selecting and recruiting a
person for a specific job role. HR Practitioners must get the right people in the right job. The right
people solve problems and get things done without burdening management. The wrong people not
only don t solve problems but as well create more problems and distractions. (Stettinius , Wood,
JR., Dolyle, Colley. JR., 2007) HR Practitioners main objective is to achieve results that tend to

are interconnected parts. The practice of an organisation must be set right in the first place so that

company. For example if the company wants to start doing performance appraisal, they should
educate their employees on the importance of doing such. If the company HR Practitioners fail to
do this, the whole system will be ineffective and will not give the company the expected results.

The Prevention Of Animal Cruelty Society
Good evening, my name is Tina Alicea and I am the director of The Prevention of Animal Cruelty
Society also known as PACS and we are located at 1006 Intervale Avenue Bronx NY 10457. I can
be contacted at Tina.alicea1@yahoo.com or 347 555 9999. The Prevention of Animal Cruelty
Society (PACS) requests funding to continue educating against animal cruelty. Animal cruelty in
New York is a very significant social issue because animals should have the same right to live and
be unharmed as humans and many New York households own pets. Animal cruelty consists of
numerous kinds of mistreatment such as hunting, factory farming, animal fighting as entertainment
and wearing animals.
The Prevention of Animal Cruelty Society (PACS) aims to advocate, educate, rescue and
improve the quality of life for animals by targeting people who get arrested for animal cruelty,
requiring those individuals to attend a program that instructs them on how to properly care for an
animal and provide shelter for mistreated animals. PACS advocates for animals through public
policy, corporate reforms, and major campaigns to confront national and global cruelties. As the
director of this organization, it is not easy to fix what is damaged. However, with funding and a
team who is as dedicated and passionate about saving animals as their director, there can be major
success in correcting the way the government is being viewed in the eyes of their community.
PACS wants to engage the hearts, hands and minds of the

Plumbing Renovations
2 Plumbing Renovations To Consider For Your Retirement Home
If you re renovating a home to use after you retire, you probably want to make it senior friendly
so you can stay in it well into your golden years. One room that will need special consideration is
the bathroom. You may have trouble stepping over the tub to take a bath or showerwhen you get
older. You could have a walk in tub and walk in shower installed to make the bathroom safer for the
time you may develop mobility issues. Here s why these are good choices for senior living.
A Walk In Shower Provides Room For A Wheelchair
Although you may not like to think about it, you or your spouse may be in a wheelchair in your
advanced age. Even if you re not, you may need to sit in the shower or have a helper in the
shower to make sure you re safe. A walk in shower usually has more room than a standard shower
in a bathtub. This makes it easier for someone to help you, and for you to take in a shower seat or
wheelchair. Install a shower without a rim around the shower pan and you ll be able to roll a
wheelchair inside and continue to shower by yourself. When the plumber installs the handles and ...

When you get older, you may need to avoid a traditional bathtub due to the difficulty getting in
and out of it. However, if you re a person who loves long, hot baths over showers, you would
really miss not being able to bathe. The solution is a walk in tub that is easy to enter. These
allow you to soak in hot water in a seated position so you can stand up and exit the tub easier too.
Plus, some tubs have water jets for massaging and relaxing your muscles and easing joint pain.
When you renovate your bathroom, have your plumber remove your old tub and place the walk
in tub in it s place. You won t have to wait until you re elderly to enjoy it since it will be like
having your own little hot tub to take away the stress of the day after

Joseph Smith Contribution
So far during the academic semester, Joseph Smith has possessed and displayed a tremendous
amount of energy, passion, and dedication to Phi Theta Kappa. Joseph has supported us for every
event we hold and assisted us for our chapter s College Project and Honors in Action Project, two of
our most important projects throughout the year. During our chapter s CollegeCompletion Week,
Joseph showed up almost every day to encourage students passing by to make their commitment to
completing their associate s degree. Whether he volunteered for an hour or more each day, he
demonstrated commitment and carried the purpose of our College Project successfully throughout
the week. His never failing enthusiasm seemed to rub off on the other members volunteering,...

Furthermore, his attitude toward the chapter is an example to follow by all the members and
officers who look at him as a born leader who is always ready to contribute to the chapter in
every event the chapter is involved in. Although he is not an officer of the chapter, he is an
active member. His involvement with the chapter and the contributions he makes give him an
important voice in every meeting and activity he is a part of. As a member, he has the curiosity
to know everything the chapter is doing in order for him to provide his help. For example,
during our College Project, Joseph volunteered with the chapter every day he was available. Not
only that, he also showed up during days he was not expected too, appearing between passing
classes and helping as much as he could during the short periods of time he was available. As a
member, he would engage students and encourage them to finish their associate s degree. At the
same time, he recruited new members for our local chapter, explaining to them the activities Phi
Theta Kappa does on campus, its scholarship opportunities, and the leadership training members
receive. Joseph s work with the chapter is reflected in every meeting, where he motivates all the
members to work as a team and pursue the same goals. For him, the word competition means, to
make the chapter do its best in every project we are a part of. Thus, other members see him as an
example to follow and a leader. As a member of the chapter, Joseph provides the value of honor,
respect, rigor, and

The Cafe Window
In the early evening back at home Consuelo was still pacing in front of the cafГ© window.
Concerned for the safety of her only son, who had departed this morning wearing his sleepwear
and robe. Her jaw fell open when on the sidewalk before her appeared Stella and Sol, with much
audacity. Carrying up the path garment bags from a high end department store. Behind them was
Dr. Edwards who had just pulled in after his long shift at work. He walked towards Stella who
was standing in front of the door. He greeted her with a big, juicy, wet, kiss, then they all just
walked right in.
Consuelo, who was still owning her tantrum, was offended by their smiles and casual stances. Not
wanting to believe what she was seeing when she questioned, Are those really garment bags you
carrying? Calm and collect Sol put on her sarcastic tone and lifted her head and retorted You saw
the wedding invitation. My daughter gets married next Saturday. We will dress impeccably well
for the fiasco. Consuelo who was speechless regained her composure for a moment, I understand
that she became a loon, but did I miss something with you two? My son is going to be crushed,
while you are going to look your finest for the biggest mistake your daughter is going to make in
her life? I just don t understand.
Sol replied proud, You always put on a good face during bad weather, don t you go out in the rain
with makeup? Consuelo was so appalled she could only muster, You mean you are not going to

Power Corrupt In Macbeth
Does obtaining or coming into power automatically corrupt the person who has the power?
There are many people who think that power will eventually and always corrupt a person, and
there are also others who believe power doesn t corrupt someone at all and it s just who they
really were all along, however, I personally think that power does corrupt people some of the time,
and actually has many different factors attributing to whether or not the person becomes corrupted.
I think that the argument that power can never corrupt is completely invalid because if that were
true, then terms like mad with power or power trip would not exist, so these terms existing and
being used proves that power can make a person become corrupt at least some of the time. I
personally believe that in the play Macbeththere is many examples to use to further the point that
power can corrupt a person sometimes. In the play, before Macbeth becomes the king and is just
first told by the witches that he will become the king of Scotland at some point, he is very
interested in this but is still wary and not sure what to expect. However, Lady Macbeth
eventually convinces Macbeth to kill the king himself, which I think she was able to do
because the idea of power was very alluring to Macbeth, so in a way it had already began to
corrupt him. While it can be argued that this wasn t the power corrupting him and instead was
outside influence from his wife and the witches, this opinion gets more discredited the further
into the play you read because eventually once Macbeth becomes the king he makes corrupt
decisions by himself out of fear of losing his power. such as when he orders that Macduffs family
be put to death and for his castle to be taken. In this specific situation the witches did warn him
that Macduff was a threat to his power and his kingship, however no one convinced him or
advised him to have his family murdered that was his own decision and what he felt he had to do
to secure his position as king of Scotland. It can be argued that while Macbeth certainly had shown
himself to be corrupt throughout Macbeth after he became the king of Scotland, he was corrupt all
along and wasn t in a positon for it to really be

The Formation of Hurricanes Essay
The Formation of Hurricanes
Hurricanes begin as tropical storms over the warm moist waters of the Atlantic and Pacific
Oceans near the equator. (Near the Philippines and the China Sea, hurricanes are called typhoons.)
As the moisture evaporates it rises until enormous amounts of heated moist air are twisted high in
the atmosphere. The winds begin to circle counterclockwise north of the equator or clockwise
south of the equator. The relatively peaceful center of the hurricane is called the eye. Around this
center winds move at speeds between 74 and 200 miles per hour. As long as the hurricane remains
over waters of 79F or warmer, it continues to pull moisture from the surface and grow in size ...

We only have basic knowledge of general hurricane occurrence there are no atmospheric conditions
that can be measured to predict where a hurricane will develop. Therefore we can only forecast its

their early stages and track them through their life cycle until they decay and die.
Satellites detect hurricanes in their early stages of development and can help to provide early
warnings of hurricanes. Special aircrafts fitted with instruments fly through and over hurricanes,
and weather radar can locate storms within 200 miles of the radar station.
Hurricane Ivan
Hurricane Ivan continues to make the headlines. It is not classified as a hurricane anymore, and

  • 3. Corruption Of British Rule And Imperialism In George... Corruption of British Rule and Imperialism: The killing of an Elephant Shooting an Elephant explores the parallels between Britain s imperialism and a British officer s moral quandary with killing an elephant. Orwell s use of political critique is not lost in Shooting an Elephant. George Orwell s distrust and dislike of British rule is a common theme in most of his works like 1984 and Animal Farm, and is the hidden main idea of the Shooting an Elephant. By using themes of tyranny and conscience and symbols like the elephant Orwell conveys his contempt for Britain and imperialismas a whole. Shooting an Elephant takes place in 1920 s Burma which is now known as Myanmar. At this time Burma had lost a sixty year fight with Britain and was under British rule. The Burmese people and the British officers that keep them in line are in a constant state of tension with each other. George Orwell was a British soldier in Burma from 1922 to 1927 (Kozak 64) much like the main character of this essay. Shooting an Elephant is written in first person, and in this way, the essay can be seen as an autobiography. Orwell has long been known for is distrust of government, and uses this distrust in his writings. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell conveys the life of a British soldier in Burma and the struggle of obtaining power from a source that is hated. In many of Orwell s writings his distaste for government is accompanied by a fondness for the lower class. The soldier in Shooting an Elephant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The way in which employers handle these reimbursements can produce significant tax savings for both the company and employees. Two reimbursement strategies: accountable vs. non accountable plans Companies can cover employees expenses in two ways: through an accountable plan or a non accountable plan. An accountable plan is a reimbursement arrangement adopted by the company that requires employees to substantiate their business related expenses to the company within a reasonable time (no more than 60 days from the date of the expense) and to refund to the company any excess advances within a reasonable period (no more than 120 days ... The site was right next to the car park and the start of the Tongariro crossing track. The temperature was 16.1 degrees C which was a warm enough for a large amount of vegetation to grow. There was a wind speed of 4.6 metres per second. The vegetation was very dense with about 80% heather, 10% tussock grass, 8% bare ground, 1% light green moss and 1% dark moss. This helped me to understand the effect that heather had on the other vegetation in this area. Scotch Heather was planted in Tongariro Park from 1912 1922 to provide a habit for grouse, a medium to large game bird. Although the birds were never introduced, the plant flourished and formed thick stands that shade out native plants. It is now listed as an unwanted organism under the Bio Security Act 1993. Not only are these ideas full of ambiguity, they are also idealistic in that both compassion and solidarity fail to incorporate the human natural instinct to survive. However, even if these concepts did provide a realistic solution, the Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II are still going in the wrong direction, because if they were to try and end the million homicides occurring worldwide, their efforts would need to be collaborative. II. The Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II: Tezin Gyatso, the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet, was born in Amdo, China on July 6, 1935 into a peasant family. At the age of two, Gyatso was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, and therefore an incarnation of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion. Gyatso s life as the Dalai Lama began when he was enthroned at the age of four in Lhasa. However his political responsibilities did not arise until 1950 when thousands of soldiers of the People s Liberation Army invaded Lhasa. In 1959, the Tibetans held the largest demonstration against China s invasion of their home, therefore declaring Tibet s already established independence. This was known as the Tibetan National Uprising, which was crushed by the Chinese army. As a result, Gyatso and over 100,000 Tibetans fled across the Himalayas and into India where His Holiness was given political asylum. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As my journey in academics started, I faced the challenge and responsibility of being a single parent. Seeking opportunities to learn about economics and finance, I did what came naturally to me, which was study. Eighteen months of doing the unthinkable : working full time, studying full time, and raising a six year old, was the most exhausting and yet the most inspiring time of my life. Travelling to Asia to write a thesis comparing the Japanese and American health insurance industry, added a global flavor to my knowledge of medicine. Fueled by an interest in research, I received a scholarship for Ph.D. studies after medical school. Life events interrupted this journey, making it necessary to move from cities, and even countries. I made an unthinkable move to Australia, right after being promoted at the university. Each change has required patience and persistence, forcing me to look beyond hurdles and seek opportunities for growth. As a foreign medical graduate, in two countries, I have had to prove my skill as a physician and my specialist fellowships in both the U.S. and Australia substantiates this. These words have stung the ears of many courtroom observers, especially the families and friends of victims whose lives were snuffed out by a so called insane assailant. While there are indeed many insane people running around the streets today, I feel that many persons who use the temporary insanity defenseare more conniving than insane. Also, being an inexact science, the psychiatric community often offers up differing opinions as to any particular individual s sanity. Furthermore, money or lack thereof can play a major role in the success or failure of an insanity defense. The temporary insanity defense should therefore be abolished, especially for felony offenses such as murder. What... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, Black Rage is defined at racial prejudice induced insanity. Lawyers for Colin Ferguson, the black man who killed five white people and one Asian American and wounded nineteen others on a Long Island railroad wanted to use this plea but Ferguson decided to mount his own defense. Next, there s Urban Survival Syndrome which is described as the fear that inner city black people have of other black people. A Fort Worth jury ended up deadlock in the case of 19 year old Daimion Osby, a black man who shot two other unarmed black men in a parking lot. The so called Meek make Syndrome is the psychological emasculation of the man by his spouse. His lawyers claimed that she had destroyed his self esteem by calling him names and forcing him to sleep on the floor. • 11. Time Series Forecasting And Neural Networks Abstract Time series forecasting plays an important role in the academic and practical domains. Many researchers have studied on this area from several years. There are many models which are used to improve the accuracy of time series forecasting. In this paper, I have focused on one method i.e. Neural Networks. In the first section of the report, I will give brief introduction on time series forecasting and neural networks. In the next part, I will explain this neural method which is used for forecasting in the literature review. At last, I will conclude the paper. Moreover, the main aim of this paper is to define the neural network method among the different methods in the time series forecasting. Introduction Time series forecasting is a quantitative model. It means that historical results are gathered to produce the results to predict the future. This model is used in that situation where no information is available or provided data is not satisfactory. Time series is a series of experiments which is measured to get successive results such as, x1, x2, x3.......Xt 2, Xt 1 Xt. These experiments may be done every day, every hour or every year. It is important to understand the data pattern to achieve the aim that hoe variables behaved in the past. It has two types of models which are linear and non linear. Moreover, linear methods are easy to construct and understand. This is used when there are a huge number of forecasts to be done. Many researchers have done efforts to ... Upon arrival at Anzac cove soldiers noticed the very steep terrain above the beach. There are many reasons why the campaign was unsuccessful. One of the reasons is the unorganised planning and poor command. The main prolem was the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (MEF) as the size of the force was far too little for the operation. Normally in warfare the attacker needs to have a bigger size team then the defender however the MEF only hade 70, 000 men which was equivalent to one fifth of the opposing team. Mobile Payments Are Becoming An Upcoming New Trend Chan, Kendra 007192003 Kendraa.chan@gmail.com Bus 188 S01 Wireless Payment Wallet Share December 1, 2014 Mobile payments are becoming an upcoming new trend when it comes to technology. Mobile payments allow its users to pay for their daily needs with their phone without having to carry cash, let alone, their wallets around. However, the United States has been delaying the adaptation of mobile payments due to the fact that many different retailers have developed their own form of mobile payments as opposed to a universal approach. While many countries in Europe and Asia have successfully adopted mobile payments, United States still are behind in the trend. Introduction: As technology grows, so do the consumers. Consumers rely so much on easy shopping and simplified checking out possibilities that application developers have started to develop more mobile payment applications. These mobile payments are the technology of the future and yet the United States is still lagging behind in the rush to simplify shopping from a plastic card to a mobile app. However, with such developers from Apple and Google, there are applications where the mobile phone can stand as a wallet, but retailors do not necessarily choose a universal application to use. With Apple Pay and Google Wallet actively used, many retailors have opted to convert their merchandise to be payable with such applications . With it, the goods and troubles it causes. Some argue that art is good and is only entertainment, while others see it as the cause of a State s corruption. In Plato s The Republic , Socrates thought that art should be censored because of its heavy influence on men. Writer Alexander Nehamas, on the other hand, feels that one generation s entertainment is the next s fine art, which he thinks is ridiculous to censor. But the biggest question that remains is: when does art stop being art? Platonic censorship is based mainly on excluding forms of art and literature from society, based on the components they include that portray bad role models and blasphemies, topics not ... Art should not be censored it allows us to express ourselves, and a world without imagination would be a dull one, with depraved life . My personal opinion is that art should NOT be censored. It is good to have bad art in order to show the youth what is not acceptable and what is. This way we can create a better future for the children without leaving them so hopelessly innocent minded. In another way, I think you should not be able to label someone else s work as good or bad art. When it came down to it Gorbachev ended up agreeing with Reagan in the year of 1987, making it the first ever mutual agreement on nuclear weapons reduction. With everything he was doing Mikhail ended up becoming the first president of the Soviet Union on March 15, 1990 with election coming from the Congress of People s Duties. His leadership skills and his help he contributed to the overall betterment of the world were so good that he ended up winning a Nobel Peace Prize. • 17. The Current State of the CHinese Economic System The current state of the Chinese economic system has drawn international attention and praise due to its overwhelmingly positive statistical growth. This growth, according to the nation s leader, stems from what its government calls strides toward common prosperity. As of 2013, China s leaders proclaim to be moving toward a state of theoretical consciousness. In China, consistency and persistence is promoted over spontaneity within the confines of a sound economic structure, which has created a fertile ground for socialism to grow. A recent documentary composed by a conglomerate of media outlets, depicts the current economic landscape of China. Its story unravels to present the growing city of Shanghaias progressive, oppressive, and modern; yet, its growth has been rooted in older communist practices, given to much economic success and an uncertain future ( City of Dreams ). The changes that have taken place in modern China since the late 1970 s has grown its economy to unprecedented ends, and by unprecedented means. The transformation into an industrialized capitalistic society has catapulted its development into an uncharted realm, prompting much discussion on its future impact on the world at large. Kirkham had a strategy on paper, but it was too vague to help select which New Product Development to fund/cancel. Kirkham Instruments needed to become more closely coordinated between each division with regards to the design of new features and the market introduction of the products while also coordinating the development of new equipment with the analytical software features desired by the customers Kirkham s strategy was to integrate the different systems of each division into an all inclusive product and also to involve all the divisions together with regards to product development, instead of letting each division be responsible for just products within that division. Mr. Donaldson chose Kathleen Quinn, Vice President of R D, to be responsible for coordinating the development of new products. This proved to be quite a challenging task considering that each managing director (of each division) still retained responsibility for the turnover and profitability of their respective decisions and also for the strategies to achieve the goals of their divisions. In addition, regardless of the trend of their customers in purchasing integrated systems, the majority of each division s turnover came from the sale of stand alone products. The law mandates agencies release applicable records to the public upon appropriate requests. The Louisville Metro Police Department adopted a policy to address and comply with this law. I will review and discuss how LMPD applies its policy in order to stay in compliance with this law. I will also evaluate any improvements to the policy for better or more efficient application. Summary of law Kentucky s open records laws are covered under Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) 61.870 61.884. The law was enacted as a result of the Kentucky Open Records Act of 1976. In summary, the law requires government agencies to release records for public examination. Specifically, KRS 61.871 states The General Assembly finds and declares that the basic policy of KRS 61.870 to 61.884 is that free and open examination of public records is in the public interest and the exceptions provided for by KRS 61.878 or otherwise provided by law shall be strictly construed, even though such examination may cause inconvenience or embarrassment to public officials or others. The records include documents, photographs, recordings, and reports. The law details how government agencies are required to respond to requests, which records are exempt, application of fees and an appeal process for denied requests. Durning its time, Standard Oil gained almost complete control of oil refining and marketing in the United States through a process called horizontal integration. Another measure of coordination has been seen in research using electromyography (EMG) and it has been shown that external AF cues lead to efficient muscular contraction and better motor control performance. For example, Zachery et al. had participants shooting free throw tasks under both internal and external AF conditions. EMG activity was measured from the biceps and triceps of the shooting arm. Their results demonstrated that with external focus shots were more accurate and EMG activity was lower with biceps and triceps19. In another study, Wulf et al. had participants complete the vertical jump and reach task and measured their jump height and EMG activity of lower limb musculature. Their findings showed participants jumped higher and had EMG activity generally lower when focusing attention externally compared to focusing attention internally20. Mrs. Mallard saw her husband, and the doctors said she died of a heart disease (cited in DiYanni, 2007). The conflict in the story is that Mrs. Mallard is way too happy about her husband dying. Professional Athletes Should Be Allowed At The Olympic Games With the multi billions of dollars that the Olympics earn and spend, it s certainly is in the best interest of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to remain under the circumstances of keeping sport open to professional athletes, not only financially, but as well as the majority of their viewers. In this position statement, I will use historic International Olympic Committeeguidelines (1964) and official IOC reports as a basis for proving that professional athletes should be allowed to participate in the Olympic Games. To successfully understand what differentiates a professional athlete from an amateur athlete, and the issues that arise from it, we must understand how the International Olympic Committee defines a professional and amateur athlete. According to the Eligibility Rules of the International Olympic Committee published in 1964, a person was only eligible to participate in the Olympic games if they were an advocate for sport, without material gain of any kind. He does not qualify: a) If he has not a basic occupation designed to insure his insure his present and future livelihood; b) If he receives or has received remuneration for participation in sport ; c) If he does not comply with the Rules of the International Federation concerned, and the official interpretations of this Rule number 26 . Being one of America s past times, baseball has driven people together. Due to the Royals winning the World Series, it has become even more popular among kids. They aspire to be like Perez or Moustakas, wanting to make amazing plays and lead their team to victory. Down at the Blue Valley Reactional baseballfields, many of these boys can be found. One day on a hot, summer day in Kansas, these athletes are rushing to the fields, while carrying bags that are as tall and heavy as them. While settling into their sunflower seed filled dugouts, the sound of metal spikes hitting the cement fills the air. These kids are ready to shed blood, sweat, and tears in the 100 degree weather that Kansas has produced. As I am sitting in the stands looking around at the parents near me, it is apparent that various ones are more serious and competitive then others. Some parents just wear the colors of their child s team, and others have shirts that actually say the team name. Although they all are quite different, they have one thing in common. They are willing to suffer the heat filled air to support their children in their activities. Walking onto the field, the umpire comes announces with his deep, gruff voice that it is time to start the game, triggering all of the parents to rush onto the bleachers. • 40. Examine the Key Ideas of Situation Ethics Examine the Key Ideas of Situation Ethics (21 Marks) In this essay, I am going to examine the key features of Situation Ethics. Situation Ethics is a teleological theory that resolves ethical and moral issues relative to the situation and was developed at a time when society and the church were facing drastic and permanent change. It is most commonly associated with Joseph Fletcher and J.A.T Robinson and also William Barclay. Situation Ethics is also considered to be the method of ethical decision making that states that you must consider noble love (agapГ©) in decision making and that a moral decision is correct if it is the most loving thing to do. The theory is based upon this idea of agapГ© love which is defined by William Barclay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robinson and Paul Tillich suggested that God could be understood as the ground of our being , of ultimate significance, but not a dues ex machine , a supernatural being who intervenes in the world from outside it. In other words God is part of people not this almighty being who gives instructions for us to follow. Fletcher (who I will discuss later) used examples from the Bible to show that a strict application of rules was no longer needed and was in line with what Jesus thought too. Fletcher used quotes from the Bible as an illustration of old versus new morality. He used the example of the adulterous woman when Jesus saved her from being stoned to death even though the law permitted it. This situation is a clear example of Personalism which Fletcher used to illustrate his theory. Another example that Fletcher identified from the Bible was when Jesus confronted the Pharisees over what the Sabbath Day was intended for. In order to follow strict Jewish law absolutely nothing could be done on this day, often to the detriment of people. Jesus wanted people to follow the spirit in which God had given the law rather than following it and acting immorally in some cases. Whilst Fletcher described agape love as the only intrinsically good thing, William Barclay defined agape love as unconquerable good will; it is the determination to seek the other man s highest good, no matter what he does to ... • 54. Power Corrupt In Macbeth Does obtaining or coming into power automatically corrupt the person who has the power? There are many people who think that power will eventually and always corrupt a person, and there are also others who believe power doesn t corrupt someone at all and it s just who they really were all along, however, I personally think that power does corrupt people some of the time, and actually has many different factors attributing to whether or not the person becomes corrupted. I think that the argument that power can never corrupt is completely invalid because if that were true, then terms like mad with power or power trip would not exist, so these terms existing and being used proves that power can make a person become corrupt at least some of the time. I personally believe that in the play Macbeththere is many examples to use to further the point that power can corrupt a person sometimes. In the play, before Macbeth becomes the king and is just first told by the witches that he will become the king of Scotland at some point, he is very interested in this but is still wary and not sure what to expect. However, Lady Macbeth eventually convinces Macbeth to kill the king himself, which I think she was able to do because the idea of power was very alluring to Macbeth, so in a way it had already began to corrupt him. While it can be argued that this wasn t the power corrupting him and instead was outside influence from his wife and the witches, this opinion gets more discredited the further into the play you read because eventually once Macbeth becomes the king he makes corrupt decisions by himself out of fear of losing his power. such as when he orders that Macduffs family be put to death and for his castle to be taken. In this specific situation the witches did warn him that Macduff was a threat to his power and his kingship, however no one convinced him or advised him to have his family murdered that was his own decision and what he felt he had to do to secure his position as king of Scotland. It can be argued that while Macbeth certainly had shown himself to be corrupt throughout Macbeth after he became the king of Scotland, he was corrupt all along and wasn t in a positon for it to really be ...
