The Impact Of Media On Society
Mass media is a significant force in modern culture. Sociologists refer to this as a mediated
culture where media reflects and creates the culture ( The Role and Influence of Mass Media ,
n.d, para.2). Media has affected to the most area of human life include relationship, education,
careers, and entertainment. There were a lot of researches about the impacts of media to society
from negative to positive effects; however, researchers were not pay attention to the impacts of
media in inequality. It is also the important effect of media to society, but it show unclearly in other
reports or researches. That is the reason why our group choose this topic to research and present. In

In additions, Black movies are not favored among white people because of the lack of empathy

Bella Behavior Observation
Steve and Art, I need to say some things about Bella s behavior regarding participation in
services. I am not happy to do this, but feel it is necessary. Someone needs to have a talk with
her; someone other than me. We all agree that it is good to encourage Binghamton University
students to attend and participate in Temple Israel services. However, this needs to be in
cooperation with the rest of the participants and attendees. The issues with Bella have been
occurring for a few weeks, but have become more of a problem recently so I will use the past
week as specific examples. I include Bella and the other BU students in my weekly email
requesting Shabbat morning participants; last sent on December 11. On December 13, she asked
if she could lead Musaf with the full repetition. I already had Geoffrey Brown on the chart for
that part. I responded, Our arrangement with Geoffrey Brown is he leads Musaf and Shacharit on
alternating weeks. Thank you for asking. Then Bella asked to lead Pesukei and read Torah.
Although Pesukei was open on the chart she received, it had been filled by then. Steve Gilbert...

If she does not get the answer she wants, she will go to someone else. I feel she is being
disrespectful and uncooperative. If any of the other BU students have asked to lead part of the
service, I try to be accommodating and they accept whatever is decided. All this has made me
rather upset and tense. I could not concentrate on leading Pesukei Shabbat morning or during
most of the services Friday and Saturday. It was initially nice to have Bella s interest and
enthusiasm but she has become aggressive in wanting to get her way. Someone needs to talk with
her. In person or on the phone would probably be better than email. That someone is not going to
be me. Carol has told Phyllis at least some of the above. I did not include Geoffrey Brown or
anyone else on the Ritual Committee in this email. Howard

Information Storage And Management System
Introduction
With the development of technology, information storage and management have been vital of
importance. Information effectiveness and efficiency are determined by how well data is organised
and processed. The term data have been widely employed in different human activities, including
science, business, education, law and the like. Here, data is a means for representation of facts,
concepts, and instructions in order to communicate (Sumathi Esakkirajan 2007). Nevertheless, if
data management is ineffective, and relevant information cannot be found quickly, a large amount
data will become a liability rather than an asset of an organisation; thus, tools used for data
management give rise to the occurrence of database ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6). This literature review will consist of four parts. Firstly, it will briefly introduce DBMSs and
review the development of data models. Secondly, it will discuss DBMS products based on the
relational data model. Following that, DBMS products based on logical models will be illustrated.
Lastly, strengths and weaknesses between different data models will be demonstrated.
1.Overview of DBMSs and the development of data models
1.1Overview of DBMSs
A DBMS contains four parts, the data model, the data definition language (DDL), the data
manipulation language (DML), and the data dictionary. To begin with, the data model describes
how data are logically constructed. Next, programmers use DDL to specify the types of
information and structure of the database, which is the important connection between the logical
(how to perceive data) and physical views (how data are stored and processed) of the database.
Thirdly, DML is used to manipulate the data, where end users or programmers are allowed to
extract data in order to satisfy information requests and develop applications. Manipulative verbs
are included in DML, such as modify, delete or select . In addition, the data dictionary is used for
the storage of data elements and data characteristics, including ownership, physical representation,
authorization, and security (technology guide). The use of a DBMS

Good Parenting In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
A parent s ability to properly raise a child stands as the most pivotal test in their chapter of life as
guardians. The quality of a guardians parenting skills create the foundation for the child to grow
and prosper in their lifetime as good, moral human beings. As a society, we understand that we need
to teach our children right from wrong, not talk to strangers, and to always share with others. These
just begin to break the surface of the many lessons that good parents should instill into their children
s young malleable brains. Now, just because this grand expectation of good parentingstand so
highly in society, doesn t mean they always step up to the plate and perform like they should.
Some parents in today s society do not actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In today s society, some unfortunate families stay stuck in a vicious cycle of crime that they can
t evade. The parents resort to a life of crime so inevitably the children follow in their parents
footsteps and live the same lifestyle. In A Good Man is Hard to Find the concept of kids learning
the wrong lessons from their parents remains quite apparent. June and John both hold tendencies to
shriek out words of pure disrespect to any person they talk to. For example, John expresses that
Tennessee is just a hillbilly dumping ground, disrespecting not only the Grandmothers opinion on
wanting to go to Tennessee, but Tennessee as a state as well. Also, June says I wouldn t live in a
broken down place like this for a million bucks! in several variations throughout the story. The kids
act and speak in this manner because they learn this from their parents and Grandmother who don t
assume the roles of good parents. In addition to disrespectfulness, the children often times behave
violently and fight with not only each other but other family members as well. On the drive to
Florida, June and John began to savagely slap each other because supposedly John doesn t play
fairly. Instead of handling it like two good, respectful children, they result in physical confrontation.
Later on, John starts to kick the back of his father s chair when

Other Side to Drop Outs
Dropping out of high school is associated with multiple factors that gradually build onto an
individual. In the Income Inequality, Social Mobility and the Decision to Drop Out of High School
study, Kearney and Levine discussed that the socioeconomic perspective of a person is one that
plays a critical role in his/her perspective in continuing an education. Regions with a greater
difference in income inequality often come with less social mobility. High school students choice to
drop out is often linked with a long term exposure to low socioeconomic circumstance that
demotivated their prospect toward advancement and failure to recognize the benefits ... Show more

In a state with a greater gap in income inequality, youths of low socioeconomic status would have
had a 30% lower income in their career compared to that of youths of the same status from states
with less inequality. Likewise, individual in the former had a 8% chance of returning to school
whereas there was a 10.6% with the latter (Kearney Levine, 2016, pp. 347). Failing to identify role
models in low socioeconomic communities can cause one to fail to identify with college. However,
one could also be demotivated by living close to a household of higher socioeconomic status
(Kearney Levine, 2016, pp. 348 349). It makes the prospect on financial success seem comparatively
unreachable. With lower obvious income inequality, there is a greater motivation to strive in
education because one can feel more competitive with colleagues whose capabilities are not so
superior to oneself. Ultimately, striving to achieve success through education was, as the
researchers mentioned, most appropriately considered a cumulative measure of ability, reflecting
innate endowments, environmental influences, and the result of formal and informal human capital
investment (Kearney Levine, 2016). If an individual cannot overcome the obstacles that are cast by

Look at these three companies Sears, JCPenney, and Ford. If you think about investing or
buying bonds. Becoming a creditor in other words of these companies and you were comparing
two of them, which two companies would be the easiest to compare? Sears and JCPenney
because they re in the same industry. They would have similar underline transactions, several
types of assets, probably same seasonality versus Ford. So it s easier to compare Sears and
JCPenney than it is Sears with Ford or JCPenney with Ford. Comparability is the question then.
Comparability means comparability across companies at the same time or one company year to
year. Sometimes call consistency. That s a subset of comparability. The purchase price of a 20
year old machinery is still in the books is this okay? Well it s not for relevance necessarily. But it
is US GAAP. US GAAP says we keep the purchase price of that equipment on the books. And
depreciate it. So the book value is the original cost less than the accumulative depreciation. The
total annual depreciation since we ve had it. This is called measurement. And the companies
expenses cost of tools that would be used for production assembly, hold on wait a minute. Wait a
minute. This can t be right. The company expenses the cost of tools will be used for product
assembly, you read the chapter. I hope you did.

The Effects Of Child Poverty
There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more
important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their
lives are free from fear and want and that they can grow up in peace (Kofi Annan). Children are
like flowers. They must be loved, protected, and nourished in order to bloom. If they lack any of
these essentials, they are most likely going to suffer and die without being able to serve their
purpose. There is this universal hope that all children will flourish in life; however, there are certain
circumstances that draw a line between the fortunate and unfortunate. In this case, the factor that
dictates their future is their status in society, such as having the leisure of being able to attend
facilities that aren t available to others. Povertyin children has numerous psychological, physical
and mental effects and well being. Based on the context that the children operate within their social
and academic forte, poverty affects the children unfavorably in numerous distinct ways. Children
living in poverty are often denied access to basic needs and proper living conditions for healthy
growth and development. As such, the insufficiency or dearth of the needs affect their lives in a
great way that constrain their normal growth to become productive people in the world.
In the United States, child poverty has been a severe issue even when the country was established.

Canada s Aging Population Essay
Canada, along with many other nations, is currently faced with an aging population. In Canada
seniors are the fastest growing age group and make more then half of the population. And the
numbers of older adults are higher in rural areas than in urban areas (Menec et al., 2015). Rural
communities exist throughout Canada where there are large agingpopulations and higher number
of children, but there are fewer working individuals as compared to urban communities (Menec et
al., 2015). Many rural areas are aging more quickly than its urban counterparts as many choose to
move to a rural community for the slow pace of life, attractive scenery and smaller community
areas (Spina Menec, 2015, Menec et al., 2015). Rural seniors challenged with issue... Show more

Thus, such communities will require the appropriate conditions to handle the needs of the aging.
In terms of physical environment, this includes such features as safety, open spaces to promote
walking, and age appropriate leisure activities Seniors in rural communities identified the need
of walkable sidewalks or accessible buildings as it not only supported older people in the form of
physical exercise but also easier commute to attend social or personal needs (Public Health
Canada, 2009). In a Study by Bascu et al, in 2012 about 40 percent of seniors experienced fall and
related functional limitation. The study revealed that seniors safety and security concerns tend to
relate more to a poor physical environment which adds to the number of accidents, including falls
and complications. Seasonal conditions such as icy, wet pathways that hinder mobility increase fall
and isolation. Creating a safe physical environment enables seniors to live independently and
recreate personal identity in the face of the challenges of aging (Keating, Swindle Fletcher, 2011). It
may, however, be challenging to create this environment. An underlying issue is that funding is
needed to ensure the availability of the resources

Leadership Of The Coast Guard
1.Leadership in the Coast Guard is the process of guiding and inspiring others toward closer
adherence to the core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. Leadership is a set of
behaviors rather than just a set of ideals. Ideals are good, but ideals without the corresponding
behaviors are useless. The best way to guide others is to show by example; a true leader not only
speaks out in favor of the corevalues, but also exhibits them in their daily life.

traits is to follow an example of positive leadership. In my career, I ve been very fortunate to have

Comparing Lady of Shalott and Morte d Arthur Essay
Comparing Lady of Shalott and Morte d Arthur
Lord Tennyson wrote both Morte d Arthur and The Lady of Shalott. He set both of the poems in
medieval Camelot and describes knights and love. Both poems convey tragedy and loss. The Lady
of Shalott is fated to die tragically and King Arthur s death is described being the end of Camelot
and all that went with it. The Lady of Shalott is more of a fairy story with a sad ending, but Morte d
Arthur is much more serious and sad from the beginning and deals with both the death of Arthur
and the magic sword Excalibur .
In both poems Tennyson uses language, mood and atmosphere to demonstrate a sense of tragedy
and loss. In Morte d Arthur the landscape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the verses are very upbeat and written like a song. It is a very much happier poem than
Morte d Arthur. The tone of the poem begins to suggest the tragedy when we learn that a curse is
on here if she stay to look down to Camelot and she knows that she is cursed . This tells us that
something bad will happen to her probably she will die if she breaks the rules and looks directly
out of her tower down to Camelot. As the mood of the poem changes it makes you wonder what is
going to happen to her. Also we learn that she only see things through a mirror and moving through
a mirror clear…shadows of the world appear . You begin to feel that she will break her curse
by looking out of the window and her tragedy will begin to unfold.
In Morte d Arthur, Arthur also feels that something will happen to him that is pre determined by
Merlin, the magician, so this is very similar to the Lady s premonition of her tragic fate. His
sword, Excalibur, is a piece of magic in its own. It is beautifully described, it has lots of precious
stones and jewels on it, and it glistens in the light. Bedivere is reluctant to throw away such a
beautiful sword into a lake.
In Lady of Shallot it is Lancelot that is described in this beautiful way his broad clear brow in
sunlight glowed . Tennyson describes him and his horse in great detail and we see him as a bright

Traditional treatments for chronic insomnia include drugs such as over the counter antihistamine
preparations, with or without mild analgesics, benzodiazepine receptor agonists, sedating
antidepressants, neuroleptics, melatonin, and herbal remedies such as valerian. The
pharmacological advance has remained the most extensively used for decades, in spite of extensive
concerns about long term effectiveness, habituation, tolerance, and potential difficulties, especially
in elderly people. Growing evidence suggests that non pharmacological treatments, alone or perhaps
in combination with drugs, produce clinically noteworthy and strong improvement. In looking at
summary data about treatments, it should be noted, with some recent exceptions, outcome studies
of pharmacotherapy are almost entirely restricted to brief treatment duration of less than 6 weeks.
Even though little doubt exists about the helpfulness of hypnotic drugs for short term treatment of
acute insomnia, evidence shows that the effects of short term pharmacotherapy trials degrade over
time in patients with chronic insomnia. By contrast, cognitive behavioural treatments are tough and
robustly effective on long term follow up. In routine practice, pharmacotherapy and a variety of non
pharmacological interventions are sometimes united. Although clinical experience would seem to
propose that this joint approach

Common Misconception Of The Brain s Five Stages Of Sleep
It is a common misconception that when we fall asleep, our brains go to sleep as well. This is
most definitely not the case. Our brain is hard at work while we sleep; making memories,
cleansing toxins, and many other activities. When falling asleep, our brains go through multiple
stages, from triggering a loss in consciousness to highly erratic activity. Sleeping has five stages
to it, the first being the state between wakefulness and sleep. This stage is often referred to as
drowsy sleep due to the muscles in the body still being fairly active and the eyes roll around a bit.
In this stage the brainwaves transition from erratic beta and gamma waves, which is the normal
range of brain wavelengths when the body is awake, to less erratic alpha... Show more content on

The brain activity during REM sleep is mainly mixed brain waves consisting of theta, alpha and
beta waves. This is also the point in a sleep cycle where the body is basically rigid. The brain has
shut off all muscle movements other than the ones that keep you alive. This stage is a prime
example of how the brain is busy while we are sleeping, REM sleep begins with signals from an
area at the base of the brain called the pons. These signals travel to a brain region called the
thalamus, which relays them to the cerebral cortex the outer layer of the brain that is
responsible for learning, thinking, and organizing information. The pons also sends signals that
shut off neurons in the spinal cord, causing temporary paralysis of the limb muscles (Brain
Basics). Being that REM sleep deals with learning, scientists believe this is the reason infants
sleep a large amount of time and also why they are more susceptible to being woken up by the
slightest noises. Since this stage of sleeping has a great deal of dreaming and brain involvement
some scientists believe that dreaming is the brain s way of sorting out information it receives
during sleep, creating a story out of what it gathers. REM sleep could be considered as a work out
for your brain, helping us to make sense of what we experience throughout our

Hitler s Fall And Defeat Of The World War II
The Second World War is absolutely understood as one of the most impactful events within the last
century. From the horrendous murderous acts of the Holocaust to the unveiling of the atomic
bomb on Hiroshima, the war was anything but boring. Every stage of the war proved to be more
significant than the previous, and the ultimate end of World War II is what historians tend to focus
on even more than all other stages of the war. The fall and defeat of the German Nazi leader, Adolf
Hitler, is still under investigation and analysis from almost all academia historians. Hitler s fall
and Germany s defeat is what is most impactful about the ending of World War II and the
reasoning behind its happening. Although the defeat of Germany in World War II can be
attributed towards a myriad of reasons, two of the most significant reasons were Hitler s
stubbornness to seize oil to power his army, and the strategic bombing of Germany and German
occupied lands by the Allied Forces. Both of these systems can be directly related towards the
defeat of Hitler and the victory of the Allied Forces in World War II. Prior to his invasion and
betrayal of the USSR, Adolf Hitler relied heavily on Josef Stalin and his oil resources.
Specifically in the Azerbaijan city of Baku, oil was a commodity that was worshiped by its
townspeople, and was drilled, packaged and sent to the German and Russian forces. Baku was so

Those who prefer other way of service can easily access information on LM s website about all
auto components and inform themselves about mechanics who can service their car. Channels
There are two key channels what LM uses to deliver value for its customers: the community and the
regional microfactories. The community is a core element of LM s business model and consists of
a group of car enthusiasts and designers who communicate mainly on an online platform, but they
also meet in person during events organized by LM. Microfactories serve as places for car
manufacturing but they mean a lot more for the company. They are places to gather together with
the community and to work together with customers whilst assembling. Both key channels are
important parts of LM s marketing strategy and play a prominent role in the customer experience.
LM uses mainly these own and direct channels to reach its customers. It raises awareness about its
cars using mostly its website. This platform also helps potential customers in evaluating the
offerings of LM as community members share their opinion, knowledge and experience there. The
purchase, the delivery and the after sales service happen through the channel of microfactories.

Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge
Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge in Golden, CO, has been a topic for debate for many
years. In 2010, I testified and spoke out against the wildlife refuge on the house floor regarding
House Bill 10 1127. The topic is still making local headlines with leaders on both sides arguing
what are considered safe levels of Plutonium and Uranium. The article depicts the nature of the
arguments and how the policies will affect the community. Some of the controversies discussed in
the article that may affect the community include, safety, zoning, recreational, and environmental
issues. Public safety is one of the main concerns for the community. The concern is that the United

The community doesn t want a Cold War Museum placed at the site and they do not want to
make it a public area open to families. The wildlife in that area concerns many animal activists
because the wildlife that use the site are also at risk of contamination due to the water and food
they consume at the refuge. Animals were never brought to the site. There is a 6 foot fence that
currently surrounds the Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge, which provides easy access to deer, antelope,
birds, snakes, and other burrowing animals.
The United States Government has spent $7 billion cleaning up the site and claim that it was
successful. It s a place that Niels Schonbeck, a chemistry professor at Regis University who has
monitored the public health effects of Rocky Flats since the 1980s, would never visit. Schonbeck
questions whether the risk thresholds for human health effects identified by the federal government
are adequate (Aguilar, J., 2015). According to the article, government officials and their scientist

community, and non profit organizations do not believe that any level of plutonium is safe and

A Mexican Restaurant
The photograph shown in the cover page is the one that I will analyze. It shows a Chipotle
restaurant, which to the average person, is just that, a regular restaurant; however, there is a
purpose behind it. Being in the twenty first century, where the modern era continues to advance,
we see affect in not only our technological gadgets, but also in our restaurants. This era causes
restaurants to change into more appealing environments. Normally, when we think of a Mexican
restaurant, we assimilate it with a very stereotypical way. The stereotypical way we think of a
Mexican restaurant is in a traditional looking building with colors that reflect the country of
Mexico. Usually with very fluent waiters and waitresses who may not be very fluent with
English, as well as menus that use the Spanish names of the recipe, with all the ingredients in
Spanish. Basically, when we think of a restaurant in a stereotypical way, we think of the culture
the restaurant is geared to specifically; however, this type of style breaks that stereotype by
creating a very hipster style with its modern advances in its restaurant that appeals to the Modern
Era with also serving the relatively same Mexican food. So the purpose of the image is to show
how the Modern Era doesn t stop at technology in that it also carries on to our eateries, and how the
restaurants have to change along with what is the status quo based on the population. As talked
about in the previous paragraph, the audience is

7 Habits of Highly Effective People
I think win/lose way to often, it demonstrates my selfishness that is influencing me. It generated
a negative emotional bank account by my sister. I think win/lose, especially with my sister; I
believe I made her think lose/win to get it over with. She doesn t think that way just with me,
but also with other people, because I think I made her insecure about herself. Now that I have
realized that, I am trying to compensate by either thinking lose/win or win/win. So I will get
back in the positive emotional bank account. It is quite a challenge for someone who has always
been thinking win/lose to go over to win/win or lose/win. I do believe I have been working on it
very well and that it s going a lot better. It has already demonstrated my self awareness, and
imagination, but I have to listen a little more to my conscience, to accomplish my independent
will. Covey s habit 4 I believe is one of the easiest habit but also a very effective habit to become
successful and well liked, without having to take advantage of anyone. I loved to read his
examples, especially the one of the software company that was almost going bankrupt and
accepted to not follow the contract, but then after that was asked for a way bigger service. It
shows that if you think lose/win at first that it might be a bigger win later. Habit 5: Seek First to

Orson Welles Use of Long Shots
Orson Welles, Hollywood s boy genius, brought his innovative approach which has, as Andre
Bazin states in Orson Welles: A Critical View: shaken the edifices of cinematic traditions . One of
the formal characteristics that he is most well known for is the use of long takes. Although the use
of long takes was already established in film, as many of the first films had no edits, Welles
incorporated long takes effectively in his films to overload scenes with activity adding more
dramatic tension. The films that his formal characteristic stands out the strongest are two of his
more popular films Citizen Kaneand Touch of Evil. Orson Wellestheatrical background and his love

robbing them of a visual explosion. Orson Welles use of long shot allows him to pack the screen
with action and give the audience the illusion of freedom to follow what they want in a scene
making the audience being more invested because they believe they found out the conflict on their

making it rich in content and catharsis as he did in Citizen Kane and Touch of Evil.

The Problems with Voting in America Essay
The Problems with Voting in America
If one were to look at the voting history as of late in America you would surely find information on
the Florida catastrophe in 2000. The problem with our voting system today is in the technology
being used; many demographic groups find our current systems confusing and hard to use. As voters
step into the polling places this election year many will be voting through new devices some even
sporting touch screen technology and we can only hope that the new technology is understood and
accepted.
In the US each municipality selects their own voting equipment regardless of what other places

Chads are perforated and held onto by 3 spots, but often only 1 or 2 of these spots comes undone
cleanly which is known as a hanging chad. This analog manner of literally punching votes can be
very ambiguous when read by a machine. Erik Nilsson calls these machines antiques and rightfully
so, these machines have no place in polling places.
In 2000 Riverside County California decided to spend 14 million dollars to make their voting
system all electronic. This decision was made on the basis that in 1998 more than one million
dollars was spent on paper ballots (in Riverside), but when only half of the county voted the extras
had to be trashed. For local elections their new electronic system fetched a 99% approval rating
from voters (Wired.com article). The only foreseeable downside to this technology is the start up
price and with internet voting not likely due to security issues, this maybe the best solution.
Can our government trust a company enough to allow them to make our voting machines? The
answer is no. The only way electronic touch screen voting will eliminate all other methods is to
have a way to be audited. PBS states in this article that an ATM company called Diebold has their
eyes on making a sufficient voting machine, but with ATMs always printing a receipt it s likely
that receipt technology will find its way into voting. While I do believe that our future voting

Application Of Direct Sales Comparison
This report uses the application of direct sales comparison approach to derive the site value for
the subject property. There are sufficient sales of vacant lots within 3 miles of the subject
property. Seven suitable vacant lot sales were selected and analyzed to estimate indicated subject
s lot value (table_ 1). The analysis uses a per sq. ft. unit in valuing the site. The vacant lots were
sold March to October of 2013. Lots attribute such as lot size, lot shape, topography, Resource
Protected Area (RPA), zoning which is density of development allowed per acre of land, and
traffic patterns were analyzed. The report used the Fairfax County digital maps of property,
resource protected area, and topography maps. In addition, aerial photography data was used to
determine the level of traffic in areas surrounding each lot.
The comparable lot sales are similar to the subject in term of land features such as lot shape, land
use, topography, and traffic patterns. The main differences in the comparable lots are observed in
terms of lot size, RPA, and zoning (density of development allowed per acre of land).
This report originally selected twenty one vacant or lots with old buildings which were
subsequently razed and replaced with newer and larger contemporary homes. In order to conduct a
meaningful analysis, the report calculated per sq. ft. median sales price of $7.20 based on the
original twenty one vacant lot sales (appendix _A). This figure is only used for adjusting the size

A Number Of Learning Style Theories Exist
A number of learning style theories exist. Learning style theorists according to Csapo and Hayen
(2006) have identified specific characteristics of learning and have organized these characteristics
into specific classifications of learners. Learning styles are individual differences in learning and an
individual s learning style is the way he or she concentrates on, processes, internalizes, and
remembers new and difficult academic information or skills.
According to GГјlbahar and Alper (2011) learning styles can be described as the means of
perceiving, processing, storing, and recalling attempts in the learning process. In GГјlbahar and
Alper (2011) research, various cognitive and learning style theories and models have been
proposed over the course of many years, identifying and categorizing individual differences like
Hill s Cognitive Style Mapping (1976), Dunn and Dunn Learning Styles (1978), Howard Gardner s
Multiple Intelligence Theory (1983), Kolb s Learning Styles (1984), Gregorc Learning Styles
(1985), Felder Silverman Learning Model (1988), Grasha Reichmann Learning Style Scales
(1996), and Hermann Brain Dominance Models (1996). These models of learning styles are
currently being used in today s society.
One approach is Kolb s (1984) Experiential Learning Theory, which is based on the works of Kurt
Lewin, John Dewey, Lev Vygotsky, and Jean Piaget. Kolb has described four basic learning styles:
accommodative, assimilative, divergent, and convergent which are based

Technology And Social Disconnection From Everyday Life
Not a wired culture, but a virtual cultural that is wired shut: compulsively fixated on digital
technology as a source of salvation from the reality of a lonely culture and radical social
disconnection from everyday life (Doheny Farina, 1996). The mobile telephone has been the
most rapidly disseminated piece of technology in world history. The first commercially available
mobile devices were available in the 1980 s, and since then have expanded exponentially. In
1994, Finland was the world leader in terms of mobile subscribers with ten percent of the
population being hooked on a mobile contract (Wirzenius, n.d.). Over the past twenty years, these
numbers have increased beyond one s imagination. As of January 2014, ninety percent of
American adults own a cell phone and over half of those own a smartphone (Pew Research Center
s Internet American Life Project, 2014). These numbers will only increase with time as in a survey
conducted by Pew Internet (2014) ninety eight percent of adults between the ages of eighteen to
twenty nine own mobile devices with numbers decreasing slightly as the population aged. As our
culture begins to shift more into the digital revolution age we find ourselves losing vital
communication skills in person to person contact. The sight of a local Starbucks at lunch time filled

By completely clearing off a majority of the island s forests, it produced numerous negatively
affected the island inhabitants. Due to the clearing of the forests and vegetation through burning
and cutting, it led to soil erosion and evaporation, susceptibility to wind damage, and reduced
crop yields . Also since they no longer had palm trees to make canoes, they had no way to go
fishing, which led to them losing an important resource for protein. Even since the beginning the
inhabitants heavily relied on the island s bird population and other animals. As the islanders
continue to hunt the numerous bird species, the birds were unable to produce offspring and
continue to expand their populations. Due to the sudden drop in animal population, they people
had to find a way to still survive which led to them stealing from neighbors . Not only did the
people find it necessary for their wellbeing to steal resources from their neighbors, but they also
started to resort to cannibalism in order to get the nutrients that are needed. Although within the
Polynesian culture, referring a man as being food defiled his mana, mystic power, and reducing
the man to the level of an animal is the greatest insult someone could do . However on Easter
Island, their act of cannibalism was not exclusively a religious rite or a way to express revenge
but it was just a liking towards human flesh and the wanting for fresh meat . With the lack of
resources to provide them with nutrients, the next best source are humans because the human body
will be able to provide a single family with enough nutrients for an amount of time. The decrease of
agriculture and the animal population resulted in about three quarters of the human population

Fears Of The Supernatural During The Elizabethan Era
Fears of the Supernatural During the Elizabethan Era, many strange superstitions became common
around Europe. Some of these are still evident in society today. Why do people think that black
cats mean bad luck? Why do people say God bless you, after somebody sneezes? And what does
this have to do with ghosts? During the Shakespearean time period, superstitions were caused by
the creation of ghoststories, provoked greatly by plays, and were blamed for misfortune. The
word superstition is often used very loosely, and should first be defined, before being used.
Derived from super above , and stare to stand , the Latin Superstitio signifies a standing over or
survival , describing an irrational or a credulous attitude towards magico religious beliefs and
practices in a modern civilized community long after these primitive ideas and customs have been
abandoned by the more sophisticated section of society (James 289). The exact definition of the
word superstition, from the Gale database, tells us that the belief in superstitions was popular long
after society had cast aside the thoughts from society. During this time, the belief of superstitions
was growing more, as was the creation of plays and ghost stories. The belief in superstitions was
caused mostly by ghost stories. One of the most famous ghost stories is that of Queen Isabella of
France.
The upper rooms (of Castle Rising) are said to be haunted by the ghost of one of the castle s most
notorious former

Emergency Management
The roles of information systems in emergency response system and how the individual would use
it. In emergency response management the basic network involves receiving information and then
the mobilization of the necessary emergency services and first responders to the disaster area.
This is should include a first wave of core emergency services, such as firefighters, police and
ambulance crews, but the size of the emergency determines the amount of resources allocated to
any disaster. In receiving information there needs to be a way to provide and obtain accurate and
timely information about the event and keep communication open and flowing with all the
responders. It should have a way for key people to communicate and keep everyone... Show more

This would greatly reduce any information overload that would hinder decision making. In the
span of not having enough information, some decision makers will wait on making a decision,
but this could be just as bad as making a wrong decision.[Carver] Other key decision makers will
fall back on routines which might not be relevant in the situation. The technology in this situation
needs to be able to take the amount of information gathered and then start the allocation of
resources to the area so that information does start coming in, they can immediately start
implementing the response plans. There is a need for both discipline, which would include
structure, doctrine, and processes, and agility which could be defined by creativity, improvisation,
adaptability in responding to a disaster.[Walker] There is also the need to onboard and build an
effective leadership team quickly to coordinate and manage efforts as they grow beyond first
responders. The leader and team must formulate and implement a disciplined, iterative set of
response plans, allowing initial coordinated responses that are vaguely right, adapting to new
information and changes in circumstances as they arise. There needs to be a broad system that will
allow people who have never worked together before the ability to understand the objectives from
the information provided and instantly update on any

Rio Watercolors Skyline Analysis
Religions in Brazil
When we often hear the word Religion we immediately think of a person praying, worshiping
something or the word referring to a God, which isn t necessarily wrong, because throughout
history, people have faced different religions and beliefs much more differently than others in
variety of places around the world. Religions like Christianity and Catholicism for example, were
peacefully introduced to societies like Brazil during the sixteenth century. However, it was also
taught to the native people as something they all must follow throughout their whole lives. Rio
Watercolor Skyline , an abstract painting of a Brazilian landscape, is similar to Christ the
Redeemer , a 1931 Brazilian statue of Jesus Christ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both dark and bright tones are present in the art due to the artist use of different layers of
colors. The feeling of hope and comfort is shown at the very bottom of Rio Watercolor Skyline
by the use of colors like light green and yellow, while darkness is shown in the center where Jesus
is standing with outstretched arms with darker colors. The artist used different colors in order to
show the different views of traditions in Brazil. For example, the color red in Rio Watercolors
Skyline represents old traditions being dangerous and threatening, while the light green shows the
traditions being encouraging and seen as part of God s blessings. People might be able to attend
church meetings if their religion adapts to their lifestyle so they would have more freetime instead
of not being able to go because of the church s demanding and busy schedule. In addition, people
feel very uncomfortable about having a tradition or beliefs, because people want something that
could guide them. We don t like being controlled like animals. We want traditions where we feel
very proud. A tradition where it s not just about priests teaching people something over and over
again. People want traditions that are valuable. They want something special and meaningful to
them instead of it being something that they must o because their parents are doing it or feel

  • 3. Bella Behavior Observation Steve and Art, I need to say some things about Bella s behavior regarding participation in services. I am not happy to do this, but feel it is necessary. Someone needs to have a talk with her; someone other than me. We all agree that it is good to encourage Binghamton University students to attend and participate in Temple Israel services. However, this needs to be in cooperation with the rest of the participants and attendees. The issues with Bella have been occurring for a few weeks, but have become more of a problem recently so I will use the past week as specific examples. I include Bella and the other BU students in my weekly email requesting Shabbat morning participants; last sent on December 11. On December 13, she asked if she could lead Musaf with the full repetition. I already had Geoffrey Brown on the chart for that part. I responded, Our arrangement with Geoffrey Brown is he leads Musaf and Shacharit on alternating weeks. Thank you for asking. Then Bella asked to lead Pesukei and read Torah. Although Pesukei was open on the chart she received, it had been filled by then. Steve Gilbert... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Information Storage And Management System Introduction With the development of technology, information storage and management have been vital of importance. Information effectiveness and efficiency are determined by how well data is organised and processed. The term data have been widely employed in different human activities, including science, business, education, law and the like. Here, data is a means for representation of facts, concepts, and instructions in order to communicate (Sumathi Esakkirajan 2007). Nevertheless, if data management is ineffective, and relevant information cannot be found quickly, a large amount data will become a liability rather than an asset of an organisation; thus, tools used for data management give rise to the occurrence of database ... Secondly, it will discuss DBMS products based on the relational data model. Following that, DBMS products based on logical models will be illustrated. Lastly, strengths and weaknesses between different data models will be demonstrated. 1.Overview of DBMSs and the development of data models 1.1Overview of DBMSs A DBMS contains four parts, the data model, the data definition language (DDL), the data manipulation language (DML), and the data dictionary. To begin with, the data model describes how data are logically constructed. Next, programmers use DDL to specify the types of information and structure of the database, which is the important connection between the logical (how to perceive data) and physical views (how data are stored and processed) of the database. Thirdly, DML is used to manipulate the data, where end users or programmers are allowed to extract data in order to satisfy information requests and develop applications. Manipulative verbs are included in DML, such as modify, delete or select . In addition, the data dictionary is used for the storage of data elements and data characteristics, including ownership, physical representation, authorization, and security (technology guide). In A Good Man is Hard to Find the concept of kids learning the wrong lessons from their parents remains quite apparent. June and John both hold tendencies to shriek out words of pure disrespect to any person they talk to. For example, John expresses that Tennessee is just a hillbilly dumping ground, disrespecting not only the Grandmothers opinion on wanting to go to Tennessee, but Tennessee as a state as well. Also, June says I wouldn t live in a broken down place like this for a million bucks! in several variations throughout the story. The kids act and speak in this manner because they learn this from their parents and Grandmother who don t assume the roles of good parents. In addition to disrespectfulness, the children often times behave violently and fight with not only each other but other family members as well. Children are like flowers. They must be loved, protected, and nourished in order to bloom. This tells us that something bad will happen to her probably she will die if she breaks the rules and looks directly out of her tower down to Camelot. Our brain is hard at work while we sleep; making memories, cleansing toxins, and many other activities. When falling asleep, our brains go through multiple stages, from triggering a loss in consciousness to highly erratic activity. Sleeping has five stages to it, the first being the state between wakefulness and sleep. This stage is often referred to as drowsy sleep due to the muscles in the body still being fairly active and the eyes roll around a bit. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brain activity during REM sleep is mainly mixed brain waves consisting of theta, alpha and beta waves. This is also the point in a sleep cycle where the body is basically rigid. The brain has shut off all muscle movements other than the ones that keep you alive. This stage is a prime example of how the brain is busy while we are sleeping, REM sleep begins with signals from an area at the base of the brain called the pons. These signals travel to a brain region called the thalamus, which relays them to the cerebral cortex the outer layer of the brain that is responsible for learning, thinking, and organizing information. The pons also sends signals that shut off neurons in the spinal cord, causing temporary paralysis of the limb muscles (Brain Basics). Being that REM sleep deals with learning, scientists believe this is the reason infants sleep a large amount of time and also why they are more susceptible to being woken up by the slightest noises. Since this stage of sleeping has a great deal of dreaming and brain involvement some scientists believe that dreaming is the brain s way of sorting out information it receives during sleep, creating a story out of what it gathers. It shows a Chipotle restaurant, which to the average person, is just that, a regular restaurant; however, there is a purpose behind it. Being in the twenty first century, where the modern era continues to advance, we see affect in not only our technological gadgets, but also in our restaurants. This era causes restaurants to change into more appealing environments. Normally, when we think of a Mexican restaurant, we assimilate it with a very stereotypical way. The stereotypical way we think of a Mexican restaurant is in a traditional looking building with colors that reflect the country of Mexico. Usually with very fluent waiters and waitresses who may not be very fluent with English, as well as menus that use the Spanish names of the recipe, with all the ingredients in Spanish. Basically, when we think of a restaurant in a stereotypical way, we think of the culture the restaurant is geared to specifically; however, this type of style breaks that stereotype by creating a very hipster style with its modern advances in its restaurant that appeals to the Modern Era with also serving the relatively same Mexican food. So the purpose of the image is to show how the Modern Era doesn t stop at technology in that it also carries on to our eateries, and how the restaurants have to change along with what is the status quo based on the population. I think win/lose, especially with my sister; I believe I made her think lose/win to get it over with. She doesn t think that way just with me, but also with other people, because I think I made her insecure about herself. Now that I have realized that, I am trying to compensate by either thinking lose/win or win/win. So I will get back in the positive emotional bank account. It is quite a challenge for someone who has always been thinking win/lose to go over to win/win or lose/win. I do believe I have been working on it very well and that it s going a lot better. It has already demonstrated my self awareness, and imagination, but I have to listen a little more to my conscience, to accomplish my independent will. Covey s habit 4 I believe is one of the easiest habit but also a very effective habit to become successful and well liked, without having to take advantage of anyone. I loved to read his examples, especially the one of the software company that was almost going bankrupt and accepted to not follow the contract, but then after that was asked for a way bigger service. Erik Nilsson calls these machines antiques and rightfully so, these machines have no place in polling places. In 2000 Riverside County California decided to spend 14 million dollars to make their voting system all electronic. This decision was made on the basis that in 1998 more than one million dollars was spent on paper ballots (in Riverside), but when only half of the county voted the extras had to be trashed. • 33. A Number Of Learning Style Theories Exist A number of learning style theories exist. Learning style theorists according to Csapo and Hayen (2006) have identified specific characteristics of learning and have organized these characteristics into specific classifications of learners. Learning styles are individual differences in learning and an individual s learning style is the way he or she concentrates on, processes, internalizes, and remembers new and difficult academic information or skills. According to GГјlbahar and Alper (2011) learning styles can be described as the means of perceiving, processing, storing, and recalling attempts in the learning process. In GГјlbahar and Alper (2011) research, various cognitive and learning style theories and models have been proposed over the course of many years, identifying and categorizing individual differences like Hill s Cognitive Style Mapping (1976), Dunn and Dunn Learning Styles (1978), Howard Gardner s Multiple Intelligence Theory (1983), Kolb s Learning Styles (1984), Gregorc Learning Styles (1985), Felder Silverman Learning Model (1988), Grasha Reichmann Learning Style Scales (1996), and Hermann Brain Dominance Models (1996).
