Essay The Madoff Ponzi Scheme
Introduction Bernie Madoff began his career as an investment broker in 1960, where he legally bought
and sold over the counter stocks not listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). From the 1960 s
through the 1990 s, Madoff s success and business grew substantially, mainly from a closed circle of
known investors and friends through word of mouth. In the 1990 s Bernard L. Madoff Investment
Securities traded up to 10 percent of the NASDAQ on any given day. With the success of the
securities business, Madoff started an illegal money management business, promising his investors
consistent returns from 10 12 percent, unheard of returns at the time, which should have tipped off
most investors that something was amiss. Investors were so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Madoff admitted to this fraud in March 2009 and was sentenced to 150 years in prison. While the total
scheme is estimated to be about $50 65 billion from his investors would account to less than $10
billion when discovered. Although the Madoff scandal revealed the activities were illegal and
unethical, another scandal equally present in the scheme was that the U.S. government and regulators
failed to protect investors. The Growth of an Empire Bernie Madoff, son of Ralph and Sylvia Madoff,
grew up in a modest three bedroom home in Laurelton, a small middle class area outside of Queens,
New York. Little is known about Bernie s parents, except each had one or more issues with the
government. Ralph, had a tax debt in excess of $13,000, placing a lien on his home, assessed in 1956
and not paid until 1965. Sylvia was part of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proceedings
in 1963 to determine if broker dealers of Gibralter Securities failed to report financial conditions,
which could revoke their registrations. However, in 1964, the SEC dismissed the proceedings with
what appeared to be a deal for these identified individuals to stay out of the business. Bernie had one
brother and sister, Peter and Sondra. He attended Far Rockaway High School, although not considered
to be very competitive or excel in the area of academics; he was a

The Plan For New Homes
With the economic crash that started in 2007 and continued for a couple years countless men and
woman lost their jobs and homes. Due in part to the ability to over extend themselves they were
maxed out in their credit to debt ratios, struggling just to make ends meet. Thankfully, with the
downfall they experienced, these foreclosure and short sell victims have finally been able to bounce
back. Many today are beginning to enter back into the housing market looking for new homes,
although this time instead of trying to find the max they can afford, they are now more concerned with
the payment they can afford.
These newly educated buyers have learned a few ways to come back stronger than ever and stay on
top thanks to their shortcomings from the past. One of such ways is by a federal program called The
back to work program , which helps out those who lost their homes due to the crash. This program is
federally insured and offers buyers the second chance they need in as little as 12 months after a
foreclosure or bankruptcy. The buyer must be able to prove that there was at least a 20% loss in
income before the action took place as well. Although many if the victims are afraid to get back into
the game, they are finding more and better ways than ever before.
Another possibility that has become ever increasingly popular is the rent to own option. Rent to own is
really a lease option, which means that the buyer gets the home now and pays monthly rent for a
predetermined amount of

Chinese Labor relations
Chinese Labor Relations Labor relations in China have become more and more complex, labor
conflicts have occurred frequently, and thus labor disputes have been growing with a rate much faster
than that of the development of GDP in the past decade. They could become a potential obstacle to the
economic development if not appropriately managed. The paper studies the condition of labor
relations, and probes the profound reasons for it, and compares it across the world in order to give a
description for it. 1. CONDITION OF LABOR RELATIONS IN CHINA Since the mid of 1990s,
accompanied with the deepening of economy reform of China, most social and economic relationships

Therefore more studies were much needed. In conclusion, the weak status of workers and the related
labor conflicts will still exist for a long time in present and in the coming future and it is urgent to
regulate and coordinate the labor relations. However, the labor relations were not absolutely
contradictive and non coordinated because the acute labor relations can bring losses and damage to the
interests of both employers and employees. Thus the coordination of labor relations should be a long
trend. 2 BACKGROUND FOR SHARPLY INCREASED LABOR CONFLICTS: ECONOMIC
TRANSFORMATION The labor relations have experienced radical changes in the process of
economic transformation in China in the past two decades. The economic transformation in China
meant the transformation of both the economic system and the economic structure. In the
transformation of economic system, the labor relations changed from the traditional planned economy
system to market oriented economy system, and from the simple style between state owned enterprises
and employees to the complex style between enterprises of various ownerships and employees with
different status, from interest consistency and inter cooperation to interest conflict and the
combination of inter cooperation and confliction. In the transformation of economic structure, lots of

Valuation Allowance
05 5 There are two basic principles related to accounting for income taxes, each of which considers
uncertainty through the application of recognition and measurement criteria: * a. To recognize the

To recognize a deferred tax liability or asset for the estimated future tax effects attributable to
temporary differences and carryforwards.

noncurrent deferred tax assets for that tax jurisdiction on a pro rata basis.

One source is future reversals of temporary differences.

The Reyn Spooner AKO AKO A Shirt
When thinking about Hawaii, most people think about palm trees, hula girls, and big waves. Others
think of flowers, luaus, and dramatic sunsets. While each of these certainly embodies a part of
Hawaiian culture, in reality, these items comprise a very small percentage of what makes up Hawaii.
The state of Hawaii is not like other states. It does not even have a singular geographic barrier. In fact,
Hawaii is a series of 132 islands in the central Pacific Ocean that stretch out for over 1,200 miles.

urchins and thousands of colorful surgeonfish. Descending slightly deeper, the urchins are joined by
sea cucumbers, snails, and Christmas tree worms. This is the favorite haunt of the wrasse, damselfish,
triggerfish, and puffer. Dropping below 10 meters brings in a whole new variety of colorful urchins as
well as the many butterflyfish, goatfish, and snappers. Most corral does not extend much below 30 to

My Favorite Motto
Do not be afraid . That is my favorite motto to live by because every day, everyone faces some sort of
fear. This short phrase reminds me to stay brave and focus on the good in my life and all around me.
In my life, my greatest love is my family and friends. These 2 things keep me happy in life and they
are all I need to get through anything in my life and help me follow my motto. These 2 things are also
the things I treasure most in my life. In my friends, I value their ability to make me laugh, no matter

One thing people always compliment is my hair, so I think that it s my most marked characteristic.
However, the thing I dislike most about my appearance is my height; that s another thing people
always comment on. One thing I would change about myself is my confidence level. I am always
doubting myself and if I could, it would be the thing I would change. As for my family, I would
change how loud we are. We are always talking really loudly and it s something I don t like most of
the time. The characteristic I like most in a woman is her humor; I always like when people can make
me laugh. As for a man, I like when they are goodhearted. One trait I deplore in myself is my laziness.
I always want to get out and do things, but I use my laziness as an excuse, and that s something I hate.
In others, the trait I most deplore is unfriendliness. Phrases that I overuse are you know what? , OMG ,
like , why not? . Some people in my life impact it more then they know. In my life, my biggest heroes
are my parents. They are someone that I can always look up to for advice, laughter, and happiness. A
person in my life I admire is my brother. He is always there for me and isn t afraid to work for what he
wants, stand up for what he believes in, and share his thoughts and opinions, all the time. He always

Little House On The Prairie
Laura Ingalls Wilder s Little House series has been praised as a classic and beloved story of manifest
destiny and one family s travels west. Though typically classified as children s fiction, Ingalls Wilder
presents the books as a memoir of her own childhood; the books are written in third person, but the
protagonist is a girl named Laura who has very specific memories of her young life traveling around
the Midwest. In Little House on the Prairie, young Laura and her family leave their cozy home in the
woods of Wisconsin to travel into Indian Territory near Independence, Kansas. Pa and Ma are fiercely
independent and determined to succeed in their new, completely wild surroundings. Though Little
House on the Prairie seems to honestly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When leaving Wisconsin, the Ingalls must say goodbye to all of their family that lives close by,
resigning themselves to writing yearly letters instead. In this situation, the nuclear family chooses to
assert its individualism by leaving both their family and the newly crowded woods. Libertarianism
largely glorifies the free will of the individual, thus the choice to break free and become independent
certainly espouses the ideology. The family continues its independent streak as Ma, Pa, Mary, Laura,
and Baby Carrie construct their new house and lives on the Kansas prairie. They travel with only their
most important belongings but, for the most part, must build an entirely new house and furnishings.
This task, of course, is presented as incredibly easy. When the family finally arrives at an acceptable
plot of land, the land is completely empty; however, Pa hauls logs from the creek bottoms and all by
himself, he built the house three logs high (58). The family must also make all new furniture (luckily,
Pa is a skilled carpenter), put in a puncheon floor, install a working fireplace and chimney, hunt for
their own food, and trade furs in Independence to buy a plow for the next farming season. The family
s success can certainly be attributed to luck or Pa and Ma s skills, but may also be an outcome of their
fierce independence and determination to be on their own. The most striking example of independence
comes when Pa decides to put a real roof on their home,

Isolation In Disney Pixar s Film Brave
In the Disney Pixar animated film Brave, an unconventional princess, Merida, suffers from her own
isolation her entire life as she acts contrary to how traditional royalty should. However, her rift
between who she is and who she should be comes to a head when she puts a curse on her mother. Not
only does the movie take Merida on a journey of acceptance and learning, but forces Merida s mother,
the queen, to live in exile alone in her own mind as she is transformed into a bear. The meaning of this
mental isolation goes deeper than the surface themes of Brave, as Elinor nearly loses her humanity,
revealing the impact isolation can have on one s humanity and how dire meaningful relationships are
to a functioning society as a whole. Elinor s curse is first shown to expose this idea of isolation
equating to non humanity when she and Merida are hunting for their first meal away from the castle.
Shown to be unsuccessful in finding her own food as she tries to eat poisonous berries, Elinor is
characterized as someone who relies on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of humanity s essential qualities is to go against the grain, so to speak. Disney subtly shows this
ideal in every character from traditionalist Elinor entertaining Merida s childhood encounter with will
o the wisps to Merida s rebellion against her betrothal. So, in this way, Elinor s struggle to go so
against the grain to maintain her humanity is made more potent. If she had simply gone with what
nature told her, she would become a full fledged bear, unthinking and only relying on instinct. This
can be seen as a direct result of isolation as the lack of relationships with other higher thinking
humans takes away the need to rely on anything besides instincts; Elinor s mental isolation and
difficulty communicating with Merida removes her relationship, thus forcing her into a more
animalistic state to

Tiananmen Square Massacre Essay
With thousands left wounded, a seemingly countless number of citizens reported dead, and a country
left with a reputation in jeopardy. All of these were the consequences of a shocking and devastating
event which happened on the 4th of June 1989, the Tiananmen Square massacre. Overtime this has
been viewed as a major turning point in Chinese history. It catalyzed movements for generations
across the world.
Tiananmen Square is a city square in the centre of Beijing, China. It is named after Tiananmen, Gate
of Heavenly Peace. The square contains the Monument to the People s Heroes, the Great Hall of the
People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong died on
September 9, 1976. At the time of his death, China was in a political and economic dilemma. The
Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966 1976) and factional fighting had left the country much
poorer, weaker, and isolated than it had been in 1965. A large amount of experienced party officials,
intellectuals, and professionals were deteriorating in prison or working in factories, mines, and fields.

education. The ethics of China turned under Deng Xiaoping to a form of market socialism. He

Barbara Strauch s The Primal Teenage
People groan as they find out I teach high school, voicing their lack of understanding the teenagers in

this age group. After reading The Primal Teen by Barbara Strauch, I now have language and terms for
what I see happen in my classroom. I find myself reflecting on my own years of adolescence as I learn
how to navigate this period in their lives on the seemingly forgotten self spectrum. As I read about the
changes of the teen brain, from developing prefrontal lobes to the growth of dendrites and the pruning
process to the lack of impulse control, I am often more impressed with the exuberance of the teenage
brain.

emotions but new to my understanding are the changes that are occurring in her brain with the growth
of synapse connections, the pruning of neurons and the development of the prefrontal lobe which add

for how the dancing plague occured. The theories proposed were mass panic and hysteria, ergot

Negative Effects Of The Compromise Of 1877
The Compromise of 1877 marking the end of Reconstruction that brought Rutherford B. Hayes into
presidency had an extremely negative effect on the African American population of the South in the
late 19th century, dubbing the compromise as The Great Betrayal. In exchange for a Republican
president, the Southern Democrats were free of military occupation, had improved infrastructure and a
Democrat as Postmaster General, David McKendree Key. Because the northern military troops were
taken out of the South, there was less supervision of the region. African Americans as grateful
Republicans saw the troops as protectors from the rest of the racist south. When Hayes removed the
troops, it demonstrated the Republican party backing away from their commitment to racial equality.
Once the troops were gone, more lynchings occurred to deal with African Americans who violated the
South s racial code of conduct. The first few years after the Compromise, more whites than blacks
were lynched (1882 64 whites to 49 blacks; 1885 110 whites to 74 blacks); however, in less than
twenty years, the lynchings of blacks spiked to 113 in 1895 and 106 in 1900. African Americans had
no way to defend themselves after their defenders, the northern troops, left them essentially for dead.

Blacks were forced into sharecropping and tenant farming, which meant that they rented plots of land
from rich white men, who were most likely their former masters, and paid with either a fixed high rent
or a share of their crop. The only way African Americans were able to afford any supplies or food was
if storekeepers extended some credit and in return took a lien on the harvests of vulnerable African
Americans. They were always under the thumb of either their former masters or merchants and they
would not be able to escape this until decades

In the United States of America the sports industry is booming. Parents are having their infants ski the
day after they learn how to walk. Young children are learning how to play a variety of sports so they
can figure out what they want their varsity letter in during high school. The problem is that these
children are learning how to play the sport but they are not being taught the correct way to prepare
their bodies for the sport. People may say that because younger children are not at the competitive
level of sports they do not need proper warm up and cool down exercises. As a society, we know what

Between the 1500s and 1700s in Europe, the use of exercise to treat muscle and bone disorders
continued to progress ( History of Physical ). In the 1800s, exercise and muscle re education were
used for a variety of orthopedic diseases and injuries ( History of Physical ). Stretching had become a
large part of medical treatments such as: osteopathy, chiropractic therapy and physiotherapy ( History
and Benefits ). The polio epidemic boomed during the 1910 s and doctors realized that strengthening
and stretching the muscles helped these people to feel more comfortable ( History of Physical ). The
new P.T. or Physical Therapy has come along, exercises and stretching have become the fad of helping
with orthopedic diseases and injuries, just as it did before. Some exercises now prevent one from

What Are The Benefits Of Lowering The Drinking Age
The legal drinking age has many high school and college students shaking their heads. Despite the
illegality of underage drinking, many youth still participate in the consumption of alcohol before their
21st birthday. Underage drinking is not intrinsically wrong, rather it is criminalized and misperceived
because of current laws. Because the current law regarding underage alcohol consumption is not
working, maintaining that law is illogical and stupid. A simple solution to this problem exists; the
drinking age should be lowered to 18. Many benefits will occur if the drinking age is lowered to the
age a person is legally recognized as an adult, including an economic boost, a decrease in dangerous
drinking, and a decrease in illegal activity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people irresponsibly over consume alcohol, their judgement becomes impaired and they are
subject to be at a higher risk of injury. For example, binge drinking is the 5th biggest reasons teens
have to visit the hospital (3 4 Blau). With a lower drinking age, young adults would not have to keep
their alcohol consumption clandestine. This means that there would be more available supervision and
access to medical help should a circumstance warrant the need for it. A lower drinking age would also
make the topic of drinking less taboo which would allow people to become more informed about the
dangers of alcohol and help them learn to drink responsibly. Another very important reason to
decriminalize drinking under the age of 21 is to ensure that anyone in need of medical help gets it,
regardless of how inebriated they or their friends are. Often, teens die from drinking because the
people they are with do not call for help if an unfortunate situation occurs. Generally, these people
attempt to wait out a situation, much to the misfortune of whoever is in need of help, because they fear
the possible legal repercussions of having drank. To prevent any person suffering any harm, it is
necessary that the drinking age be

The Story of Vlad the Impaler s Life
Are you a fan of Vampires or Dracula? I am so I did some research on them, that, and I was told to.
My essay is over the very first vampire Vlad Dracula or more commonly today Vlad the Impaler. Yes
this is going to take a while so hold tight. Vlad was born in Transylvania a very long time ago. He was
a prince of Wallachia for many, many years. He was well known for what he did to the enemy during
the battles he fought in. Vlad was a highly feared person. He was the over taker of many lands, and
villages. Vlad Dracula was a dastardly man who in this seriously long essay I will explain everything I
have the knowledge of. Let s Begin. Vlad Dracula was born to Vlad Dracul and his mother was a
beautiful young Moldavian princess, her name was lost in history. He was born in the year 1431 in the
country of Sighisoara, Transylvania. He was born a prince for his father was from a family of princes
in Wallachia (Goldberg Itzkowitz pg. 18), and of course his mother being a princess helped. His name
Dracula means little dragon, or little devil . His father was a knight of Emperor Sigismund. Vlad lived
near the front line of defense for this reason alone. When Vlad was about either 12 or 13 he and his
brother Radu were traded to the Turks by their father as hostages as to keep the treaty of peace
between the two countries from ever being broken. While they were hostages the Turks taught them
science and mathematics, and by the end of the four years they were

From the Ground Up
The coffee shop where I wait for Karen is loud and busy. I sit and take notice of the people around me.
The shop is filled with young and old people alike, and I notice the differences between these two
generations. The younger crowd sits at almost silent tables everyone s eyes on the screens in front of
them. The older crowd sit and talk. Face to face with friends at their table and even with strangers at
other tables, by eavesdropping and then inserting themselves into the conversation. While some of the
younger people find this behavior rude, I find it oddly charming. When Karen comes in, I immediately
recognize her bright smile. Karen is an older woman with brown hair and kind eyes. Karen Bowman
and I worked together a few years ago at OK Foods. I am excited to see her and catch up on all the
office gossip. We find a quiet corner in the shop to talk. I am going into the Accounting field and I am
looking forward to learning more about this from her experience. Karen explains to me that she got
her first bit of experience from her mother, who taught her how to balance a checkbook and write
checks. Karen learned this at an early age, because her mother wanted to teach her about the practical
things in life. Another Lesson that Karen s mom taught her is, a woman could take care of things... run
her own life and be able to handle raising children. It definitely prepared me for being a single mom.
Hearing this I can feel that Karen has a great deal of respect for her

Ancient Cannibalism
Humans have always been drawn to knowing the grotesque, disgusting, and depraving truths of the
world, but when it comes down to the question of whether a human has done any of those things, they
always try to avoid the topic. Early cannibalism is one of the truths of the world that modern humans
have yet to come to terms with and most argue that their ancestors could not have practiced this; they
claimed that only early civilizations and early humans that were perverse practiced it. Contrary to
widespread belief, cannibalism was not considered a taboo in early civilizations and was in fact a
frequent practice among early humans because it was part of their tradition or was done out of
necessity. It can be said that ancient cannibalism dates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, regarding the past, it can be said that cannibalism as a frequent practice amongst early
humans was not a stretch because it was practiced by many early humans to have a good harvest, to
celebrate victories, and to even mourn the dead. One such example of this ritual would be with the
Khonds, an ancient Dravidian tribe from Bengal, who sacrificed and ate one of their own to ensure a
ripe harvest. This victim... was first treated with great reverence, then strangled...His flesh was then
distributed to the various tribal leaders (121). Another example of the cannibalistic tradition of early
humans would be the Wari tribe, a cannibalistic tribe that has been around since the fifteenth century,
who mourned by processing and eating their loved ones body parts. Essentially, when a Wari s loved
one died, they would gather all their close relatives and then proceed to roast and then consume their
dead relative. If it was a child that died, the body could be processed, roasted, and consumed the same
or following day as the child s immediate family was already present (Travis Heinikoff, 168). The
Wari practiced this ritual because they believed that it helped the dead cross over into the afterlife and
also allow the family members to properly mourn their loved one as they were roasted. Both tribes
practiced cannibalism because they genuinely felt that by doing this, they were helping out their tribe
and believed that there was nothing wrong with it. In a way, it could be compared to how Catholics
continuously attend church to receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ, and although the Catholics
are not as quite as literal as early cannibals, they genuinely believe that receiving the body and blood
of Christ will help them spiritually and sometimes even physically. It

Multivariate Analysis Of Variance And Multivariate Analysis
MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE (MANOVA) Multivariate analysis of variance
(MANOVA) is a statistical analysis used when a researcher wants to examine the effects of one or
more independent variables on multiple dependent variables. This method is an extension of the
analysis of variance (ANOVA) model and is the most commonly used multivariate analysis in the
social sciences. MANOVA tests whether there are statistically significant, or not due to chance, mean
differences among levels of the independent variable(s) on a linear combination of dependent
variables. Multivariate analysis of variance tests belong to a larger family of statistical techniques
known as the General Linear Model, which include analyses such as ANOVA, multiple types of
regression, and repeated measures designs. MANOVA is an inferential statistical analysis, meaning
that the communication researcher deduces a causal relationship between the independent variable(s)
and the dependent variables and can then take the results of their study conducted on a smaller sample,
or subset of the population, and generalize those results to a larger population. A researcher uses
MANOVA to answer questions about how the combination of multiple dependent variables differs
with respect to the chosen independent variable(s). The researcher is hoping to see a stable pattern of
cause and effect between the independent and dependent variables (DV). To briefly review,
independent variables (IV) refer to those variables that

The Accomplishments Of The Whitney Houston
As I lay me down, heaven hear me now. I m lost without a cause, after giving it
my all. Winter storms have come, and darkened my sun. After all that I ve been through,
who on earth can I turn to? I look to you, quoted from the song I Look to You by
Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston came out with this song after she got out of rehab,
making it seem like it was her recovery song or letting her world of fans know she was
back. Everyone always has a rough patch in life whether they want to or not, even
celebrities. Whitney also called Nippy was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New
Jersey. Whitney is an American recording artist, actress, and former fashion model.
Whitney began singing in her church choir wanting nothing more than to become a
backup singer like her mother. But by the time she was eleven, she refused to be in the
background any longer and desired to take center stage one evening to sing a solo. This
was only the beginning of Whitney s classic life into stardom. This essay should prove
that anyone can make mistakes and still be remembered as great. People should know
that she made mistakes but she took her mistakes and made it her testimony.

To what extent is the welfare state of the 21st century similar to that envisaged by William Beveridge?
This essay will commence by explaining who William Beveridge was and what problems he seen
within the welfare state. Following on from this, it will then compare the welfare state of the 21st
century to that seen by William Beveridge in his famous report of the Inter Departmental Committee
on Social Insurance and Allied Services which was published on the 1st December 1942, discussing
problems and similarities. The five giant evils Beveridge claimed to exist will be indentified and

evils. Margaret Thatcher was the first woman conservative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This was the only change that proved more giving; all other changes were less giving. Benefits for the
unemployed were not discarded but were only to last for 30 weeks. Marriage and training grants for
the self employed were discarded, and most importantly, the scale of the payments received from the
contributory scheme fell below the minimum needed for continuation. This resulted in the need for
national assistance being means tested, this over the years grew more and more important, which was
not what Beveridge had intended. Now, the benefits for the unemployed, more commonly known as
Job Seekers Allowance are calculated annually as to what a person can claim in a week. On June 29,
2009 the maximum payable was £65.45 per week for a person aged over 25, £53.45 per week for a
person aged 18 24. The rules for couples where both are unemployed are more complex, but a
maximum of £102.75 per week is payable, dependent on age and other factors. (Benefit Tax Credit
Rates 2006). The system now is a lot more complex and intricate and although a lot of people rely on
the benefit system for survival, poverty is still an enormous issue as it was in the 1940 s. Other acts
which were put in place to tackle want/poverty include the Family Allowances Act and the National
Assistance Act
So how did the Labour Government tackle the other four giants? There were policy initiatives put in
place relating to each giant individually. For

Summary Of The Abduction Of Europa
The painting I found at the Dallas Museum of Art is a work done by Jean Baptiste Marie Pierre. It is
entitled The Abduction of Europa , it is a depiction of an episode coming from the narrative Ovid s
Metamorphoses. In this painting, Zeus manifests himself as a bull and comes to lift Europa out of the
sea. She then ascends out of the water on the back of the bull into the heavens. This work of art comes
to life through its usage of the fundamental elements and principles of art. The usage of the lines in
this painting establishes emphasis and develops subtle nuances in the structure of the piece. The
figures above the sea: namely the cherubs and the large birdlike figure possess thinly defined lines
outlining them. The cherub in the top left corner with the string of flower petals has a long implied
line going into the distance. The wings of the birdlike figure in the sky have a horizontal line on the
left wing and a curved line on the right wing. This develops the outline and shape of the birdlike
creature. The lines that surround the clouds are curved and thinly defined as well. In the bottom, right
corner of the painting there is a man whose hand is reached out to touch the chin of the bull. The lines
of the rib cage and upper body muscles of this man are very thick. The lines on this man are much
more defined than the other people in the painting. This is meant to establish a subtle sense of struggle
with this man, while he is attempting to flee the sea. Europa s

The Impossibility Of Religious Freedom
The act of defining religion has been a contentious issue in a wide variety of situations, particularly in
the United States. The US is a nation that prides itself on religious inclusivity and freedom. There are
consequences to this belief and tenant. Through the social, legal and moral structures of the United
States, defining religion has become imperative. In The Impossibility of Religious Freedom, Winifred
Sullivan outlines the legal implications of defining religion in the United States. In order for religious
freedom to be protected by the American state, religion must be clearly defined. As a result, religious
theory must be used to maintain some semblance of religious freedom in the United States. Likewise,

While there are specificities of the case that can help determine the individualized outcome of this
particular case, the foundations of the legal problems in the case can be expanded to greater problems
of religious definition in the United States. As shown through The Impossibility of Religious
Freedom, religious theory is vital to the continuation of religious freedom protections, for better or
worse, in the United States. The case that is highlighted by Sullivan revolves around the ability for
citizens to use religious items around burial sites that extend beyond the city of Boca Raton s
regulatory codes. When some of these religious items around the burial sites were not permitted by the
city, a group of citizens sued the city on the grounds that the city was preventing actions protected by
the religious freedom clauses of the US Constitution. This case, like many others involving religious
freedom decisions, required a real definition of religion. Religious theory was imperative to the
outcome of this case. Sullivan writes, If religion was whatever anyone said it was, the statute was
unworkable and [Judge Ryskamp] did not feel it was his place to simply dismiss an act of the Florida
legislature as nonsense. Religion therefore had to be measured and bounded by an expert test...
(Sullivan 105). These tests were determined by various religious scholars, including Sullivan, that
testified in this case. Religious theory,

Different Methods Of Qualitative Research
This essay will look at the qualitative approaches to research and look into more detail at the main
traditions and theoretical approaches to qualitative research, the main research methods associated
with qualitative research; and the main criticisms that are frequently levelled at qualitative research.
There are many different definitions of qualitative research; one definition that defines it well is; a
means for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human
problem. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data typically collected
in the participant s setting. (Creswell, J. 2009)
There are many different methods of qualitative research and the approaches used include narrative,
phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography and case study. The narrative approach retells a person
s story across time; it explores what the story means and the lessons to be learnt from it. The goal of
phenomenological research is to describe participants experiences in a specific context and understand
a phenomenon.
Grounded theory research looks at a process, an action or an interaction with the goal of developing a
theory. The researcher attempts to derive a general, abstract theory of a process, action, or interaction
grounded in the views of participants in a study. This process involves using multiple stages of data
collection and the refinement and interrelationship of categories of information (Strauss Corbin,

Using The Personal Task Management Software On Computers...
1. Background Rationale
In contemporary society, many people are overwhelmed by the number of tasks that need to be
accomplished [1], this tasks are of different types, ranging from daily based such as meetings at work,
and non daily based buying groceries after work. To help ourselves to remember these tasks, basic
practices are to take notes on the paper based day planners or post it and to use the personal task
management software on computers and/or smartphones. As smartphones are used as an alternatives
to personal computers, taking notes on smartphones is getting more and more popular [1].
Similar to programs on a personal computer, applications can downloaded and installed on a
smartphone. Similar to a personal computer there exists a wide selection of proprietary and open
source mobile operating system platforms, out of these smartphone operating systems, the most
prominent ones being Apples iOS, Googles Android, Symbian from Symbian foundation, RIM
blackberry OS and Windows mobile from Microsoft [2].
This project focuses on developing a mobile application, Locale Reminder for Google s Android
operating system. Majority of smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung, Motorola and HTC have
adopted Android as operating system for their products. As indicated by App Brain statistics, there are
more than 1.4 million applications accessible as of November 2014, of which more than 1.2 million
are free and more than 0.2 million are paid. On July 24, 2013 Google declared

Feminism And Frankenstein
Feminism has fought no wars. It has killed no opponents. It has set up no concentration camps, starved
no enemies, practiced no cruelties. Its battles have been for education, for the vote, for better working

refuges, reforms in the law. If someone says, Oh, I m not a feminist , I ask, Why? What s your
problem? says Dale Spender in Man Made Language. Throughout literature history, women s writing
is often unremembered and widely unrepresented. For example, it is a misconception that the first
science fiction novel was written by a man, Isaac Asimov. However, he was born in 1920, while Mary
Shelley penned Frankenstein in 1818. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast England And Us Government

Good And The Social Sectors
Good to Great and the Social Sectors: A Monograph to Accompany Good to Great is the companion
piece of Good to Great. It uses the idea that leadership is foundational piece to build greatness upon.
Jim Collins and his team of researchers have authored six books books about business leadership and
what makes great companies successful. He lays out four stages of discipline with each having its
guiding principles as the framework of ideas for the book. Many people who read Good to Great have
asked how to apply the key principles to social sector organizations. So Collins authored the
companion piece, Good to Great and the Social Sectors: A Monograph to Accompany Good to Great.
In it, he outlines the use of the culture of discipline in social sectors and that it is not a principle of
business; it is a principle of greatness. Because the principles outlined in the original book are not
directed to those with business acumen they can be applied widely to all endeavors. Good to Great and
the Social Sector shows the principles in Good to Great do apply to the social sector and to answer
questions about perceived difference between business and social sectors.
In applying the principles of Good to Great, calibrating success shows up as a top question social
sector readers ask about when trying to apply the principles. Social sector organizations do not have
the same input and outputs for measurement that businesses have. Money is an input and not a
measure of greatness in the

  • 3. Essay The Madoff Ponzi Scheme Introduction Bernie Madoff began his career as an investment broker in 1960, where he legally bought and sold over the counter stocks not listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). From the 1960 s through the 1990 s, Madoff s success and business grew substantially, mainly from a closed circle of known investors and friends through word of mouth. In the 1990 s Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities traded up to 10 percent of the NASDAQ on any given day. With the success of the securities business, Madoff started an illegal money management business, promising his investors consistent returns from 10 12 percent, unheard of returns at the time, which should have tipped off most investors that something was amiss. Little is known about Bernie s parents, except each had one or more issues with the government. Ralph, had a tax debt in excess of $13,000, placing a lien on his home, assessed in 1956 and not paid until 1965. Sylvia was part of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proceedings in 1963 to determine if broker dealers of Gibralter Securities failed to report financial conditions, which could revoke their registrations. However, in 1964, the SEC dismissed the proceedings with what appeared to be a deal for these identified individuals to stay out of the business. Bernie had one brother and sister, Peter and Sondra. Thankfully, with the downfall they experienced, these foreclosure and short sell victims have finally been able to bounce back. Many today are beginning to enter back into the housing market looking for new homes, although this time instead of trying to find the max they can afford, they are now more concerned with the payment they can afford. One of such ways is by a federal program called The back to work program , which helps out those who lost their homes due to the crash. This program is federally insured and offers buyers the second chance they need in as little as 12 months after a foreclosure or bankruptcy. The buyer must be able to prove that there was at least a 20% loss in income before the action took place as well. Although many if the victims are afraid to get back into the game, they are finding more and better ways than ever before. The family continues its independent streak as Ma, Pa, Mary, Laura, and Baby Carrie construct their new house and lives on the Kansas prairie. They travel with only their most important belongings but, for the most part, must build an entirely new house and furnishings. This task, of course, is presented as incredibly easy. Not only does the movie take Merida on a journey of acceptance and learning, but forces Merida s mother, the queen, to live in exile alone in her own mind as she is transformed into a bear. The meaning of this mental isolation goes deeper than the surface themes of Brave, as Elinor nearly loses her humanity, revealing the impact isolation can have on one s humanity and how dire meaningful relationships are to a functioning society as a whole. Hayes into presidency had an extremely negative effect on the African American population of the South in the late 19th century, dubbing the compromise as The Great Betrayal. In exchange for a Republican president, the Southern Democrats were free of military occupation, had improved infrastructure and a Democrat as Postmaster General, David McKendree Key. Because the northern military troops were taken out of the South, there was less supervision of the region. African Americans as grateful Republicans saw the troops as protectors from the rest of the racist south. When Hayes removed the troops, it demonstrated the Republican party backing away from their commitment to racial equality. Once the troops were gone, more lynchings occurred to deal with African Americans who violated the South s racial code of conduct. The first few years after the Compromise, more whites than blacks were lynched (1882 64 whites to 49 blacks; 1885 110 whites to 74 blacks); however, in less than twenty years, the lynchings of blacks spiked to 113 in 1895 and 106 in 1900. Despite the illegality of underage drinking, many youth still participate in the consumption of alcohol before their 21st birthday. Underage drinking is not intrinsically wrong, rather it is criminalized and misperceived because of current laws. Because the current law regarding underage alcohol consumption is not working, maintaining that law is illogical and stupid. A simple solution to this problem exists; the drinking age should be lowered to 18. Many benefits will occur if the drinking age is lowered to the age a person is legally recognized as an adult, including an economic boost, a decrease in dangerous drinking, and a decrease in illegal activity. ... For example, binge drinking is the 5th biggest reasons teens have to visit the hospital (3 4 Blau). This means that there would be more available supervision and access to medical help should a circumstance warrant the need for it. A lower drinking age would also make the topic of drinking less taboo which would allow people to become more informed about the dangers of alcohol and help them learn to drink responsibly. However, regarding the past, it can be said that cannibalism as a frequent practice amongst early humans was not a stretch because it was practiced by many early humans to have a good harvest, to celebrate victories, and to even mourn the dead. One such example of this ritual would be with the Khonds, an ancient Dravidian tribe from Bengal, who sacrificed and ate one of their own to ensure a ripe harvest. This victim... was first treated with great reverence, then strangled...His flesh was then distributed to the various tribal leaders (121). Another example of the cannibalistic tradition of early humans would be the Wari tribe, a cannibalistic tribe that has been around since the fifteenth century, who mourned by processing and eating their loved ones body parts. Essentially, when a Wari s loved one died, they would gather all their close relatives and then proceed to roast and then consume their dead relative. If it was a child that died, the body could be processed, roasted, and consumed the same or following day as the child s immediate family was already present (Travis Heinikoff, 168). The Wari practiced this ritual because they believed that it helped the dead cross over into the afterlife and also allow the family members to properly mourn their loved one as they were roasted. Both tribes practiced cannibalism because they genuinely felt that by doing this, they were helping out their tribe and believed that there was nothing wrong with it. In a way, it could be compared to how Catholics continuously attend church to receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ, and although the Catholics are not as quite as literal as early cannibals, they genuinely believe that receiving the body and blood of Christ will help them spiritually and sometimes even physically. Multivariate Analysis Of Variance And Multivariate Analysis MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE (MANOVA) Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) is a statistical analysis used when a researcher wants to examine the effects of one or more independent variables on multiple dependent variables. This method is an extension of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) model and is the most commonly used multivariate analysis in the social sciences. MANOVA tests whether there are statistically significant, or not due to chance, mean differences among levels of the independent variable(s) on a linear combination of dependent variables. Multivariate analysis of variance tests belong to a larger family of statistical techniques known as the General Linear Model, which include analyses such as ANOVA, multiple types of regression, and repeated measures designs. MANOVA is an inferential statistical analysis, meaning that the communication researcher deduces a causal relationship between the independent variable(s) and the dependent variables and can then take the results of their study conducted on a smaller sample, or subset of the population, and generalize those results to a larger population. Following on from this, it will then compare the welfare state of the 21st century to that seen by William Beveridge in his famous report of the Inter Departmental Committee on Social Insurance and Allied Services which was published on the 1st December 1942, discussing problems and similarities. The five giant evils Beveridge claimed to exist will be indentified and analyzed in depth and how Clement Attlee s 1945 Labour government pledged to eliminate these evils. Margaret Thatcher was the first woman conservative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was the only change that proved more giving; all other changes were less giving. Benefits for the unemployed were not discarded but were only to last for 30 weeks. Marriage and training grants for the self employed were discarded, and most importantly, the scale of the payments received from the contributory scheme fell below the minimum needed for continuation. This resulted in the need for national assistance being means tested, this over the years grew more and more important, which was not what Beveridge had intended. Now, the benefits for the unemployed, more commonly known as Job Seekers Allowance are calculated annually as to what a person can claim in a week. On June 29, 2009 the maximum payable was £65.45 per week for a person aged over 25, £53.45 per week for a person aged 18 24. The rules for couples where both are unemployed are more complex, but a maximum of £102.75 per week is payable, dependent on age and other factors. (Benefit Tax Credit Rates 2006). The system now is a lot more complex and intricate and although a lot of people rely on the benefit system for survival, poverty is still an enormous issue as it was in the 1940 s. Other acts which were put in place to tackle want/poverty include the Family Allowances Act and the National Assistance Act So how did the Labour Government tackle the other four giants? There were policy initiatives put in place relating to each giant individually. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Summary Of The Abduction Of Europa The painting I found at the Dallas Museum of Art is a work done by Jean Baptiste Marie Pierre. It is entitled The Abduction of Europa , it is a depiction of an episode coming from the narrative Ovid s Metamorphoses. In this painting, Zeus manifests himself as a bull and comes to lift Europa out of the sea. She then ascends out of the water on the back of the bull into the heavens. This work of art comes to life through its usage of the fundamental elements and principles of art. The usage of the lines in this painting establishes emphasis and develops subtle nuances in the structure of the piece. The figures above the sea: namely the cherubs and the large birdlike figure possess thinly defined lines outlining them. The cherub in the top left corner with the string of flower petals has a long implied line going into the distance. The wings of the birdlike figure in the sky have a horizontal line on the left wing and a curved line on the right wing. This develops the outline and shape of the birdlike creature. The lines that surround the clouds are curved and thinly defined as well. In the bottom, right corner of the painting there is a man whose hand is reached out to touch the chin of the bull. The lines of the rib cage and upper body muscles of this man are very thick. The lines on this man are much more defined than the other people in the painting. This is meant to establish a subtle sense of struggle with this man, while he is attempting to flee the sea. Europa s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Impossibility Of Religious Freedom The act of defining religion has been a contentious issue in a wide variety of situations, particularly in the United States. The US is a nation that prides itself on religious inclusivity and freedom. There are consequences to this belief and tenant. Through the social, legal and moral structures of the United States, defining religion has become imperative. In The Impossibility of Religious Freedom, Winifred Sullivan outlines the legal implications of defining religion in the United States. In order for religious freedom to be protected by the American state, religion must be clearly defined. As a result, religious theory must be used to maintain some semblance of religious freedom in the United States. Likewise, Josh Dubler s Down in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While there are specificities of the case that can help determine the individualized outcome of this particular case, the foundations of the legal problems in the case can be expanded to greater problems of religious definition in the United States. As shown through The Impossibility of Religious Freedom, religious theory is vital to the continuation of religious freedom protections, for better or worse, in the United States. The case that is highlighted by Sullivan revolves around the ability for citizens to use religious items around burial sites that extend beyond the city of Boca Raton s regulatory codes. When some of these religious items around the burial sites were not permitted by the city, a group of citizens sued the city on the grounds that the city was preventing actions protected by the religious freedom clauses of the US Constitution. This case, like many others involving religious freedom decisions, required a real definition of religion. Religious theory was imperative to the outcome of this case. Sullivan writes, If religion was whatever anyone said it was, the statute was unworkable and [Judge Ryskamp] did not feel it was his place to simply dismiss an act of the Florida legislature as nonsense. Religion therefore had to be measured and bounded by an expert test... (Sullivan 105). These tests were determined by various religious scholars, including Sullivan, that testified in this case. • 33. Different Methods Of Qualitative Research This essay will look at the qualitative approaches to research and look into more detail at the main traditions and theoretical approaches to qualitative research, the main research methods associated with qualitative research; and the main criticisms that are frequently levelled at qualitative research. There are many different definitions of qualitative research; one definition that defines it well is; a means for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data typically collected in the participant s setting. (Creswell, J. 2009) There are many different methods of qualitative research and the approaches used include narrative, phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography and case study. The narrative approach retells a person s story across time; it explores what the story means and the lessons to be learnt from it. The goal of phenomenological research is to describe participants experiences in a specific context and understand a phenomenon. Grounded theory research looks at a process, an action or an interaction with the goal of developing a theory. The researcher attempts to derive a general, abstract theory of a process, action, or interaction grounded in the views of participants in a study. This process involves using multiple stages of data collection and the refinement and interrelationship of categories of information (Strauss Corbin, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Using The Personal Task Management Software On Computers... 1. Background Rationale In contemporary society, many people are overwhelmed by the number of tasks that need to be accomplished [1], this tasks are of different types, ranging from daily based such as meetings at work, and non daily based buying groceries after work. To help ourselves to remember these tasks, basic practices are to take notes on the paper based day planners or post it and to use the personal task management software on computers and/or smartphones. As smartphones are used as an alternatives to personal computers, taking notes on smartphones is getting more and more popular [1]. Similar to programs on a personal computer, applications can downloaded and installed on a smartphone. Similar to a personal computer there exists a wide selection of proprietary and open source mobile operating system platforms, out of these smartphone operating systems, the most prominent ones being Apples iOS, Googles Android, Symbian from Symbian foundation, RIM blackberry OS and Windows mobile from Microsoft [2]. This project focuses on developing a mobile application, Locale Reminder for Google s Android operating system. Majority of smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung, Motorola and HTC have adopted Android as operating system for their products. As indicated by App Brain statistics, there are more than 1.4 million applications accessible as of November 2014, of which more than 1.2 million are free and more than 0.2 million are paid. • 37. Good And The Social Sectors Good to Great and the Social Sectors: A Monograph to Accompany Good to Great is the companion piece of Good to Great. It uses the idea that leadership is foundational piece to build greatness upon. Jim Collins and his team of researchers have authored six books books about business leadership and what makes great companies successful. He lays out four stages of discipline with each having its guiding principles as the framework of ideas for the book. Many people who read Good to Great have asked how to apply the key principles to social sector organizations. So Collins authored the companion piece, Good to Great and the Social Sectors: A Monograph to Accompany Good to Great. In it, he outlines the use of the culture of discipline in social sectors and that it is not a principle of business; it is a principle of greatness. Because the principles outlined in the original book are not directed to those with business acumen they can be applied widely to all endeavors. Good to Great and the Social Sector shows the principles in Good to Great do apply to the social sector and to answer questions about perceived difference between business and social sectors. In applying the principles of Good to Great, calibrating success shows up as a top question social sector readers ask about when trying to apply the principles. Social sector organizations do not have the same input and outputs for measurement that businesses have. Money is an input and not a measure of greatness in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
