I. i. Using an Excel spreadsheet, the average interest rate was found to be 11%. ii. The estimated
interest expense for 2004 will be $35.53. ($323 * .11 = $5.53) iii. The cash amount to be paid for
these leases in 2004 will be $44. iv. Lease Payable$8.47 Interest Expense$35.53 Cash$44 v. As of
December 31, 2003 the amount of the Capital Lease liability that is current equals $8.47 (the
amount by which the principal will be reduced). This estimate differs from current maturities of
capital leases because current maturities ($25) represent leases that will be retired during 2004.
The payment of $44 is to the portfolio of all leases and therefore reflects the interest and
principal portions in terms of all of the leases. The amount that actually went to interest and
principal cannot be determined without accounting for each lease individually. J. i. The present
value of the future minimum lease payments is equal to $8,546. This amount was calculated by

If the damage is caused by the tenants misuse, abuse or neglect they are responsible for the repairs
REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE My lease agreement says that the tenant is responsible for all
repairs. I thought the landlord was responsible for repairs? In all residential leases, the landlord
has the responsibility to keep the rental property in good repair. The lease should not require the
tenant to make repairs or waive the landlord s responsibility for maintaining the property. Any lease
provision, which makes the tenant responsible for repairs, is challengeable under Georgia law. The

Spring Landscape With A Creek By Frantisek Kavan
Spring landscape with a creek is an impressionist oil painting by a Czech painter named
Frantisek Kavan in 1890. This piece of art is chosen because it portrays an image of a landscape
in which a creek of water is running through the meadows. The golden sun seems like taking a
bath in the water hedged by green fields where yellow flower buddings can be seen. This painting
shows the time of year when trees are saying goodbye to the winter season and are ready for life
to return with spring. It seems as if this painting is saying goodbye to the history and introducing
the new impressionistic art of 19th century. This painting is a simple landscape but it depicts the
basic elements of life that are needed by a human to survive rather than materialistic things.
Anyone who sees this painting is absorbed in it as the artist has painted it fresh which shows an
optimistic thought when the glance goes from deserted trees to the green meadows and the water
creek and finally to the flowers . This picture resembles a strong feeling of the presence of a
creator who rescues us from destruction to the spring of life when life is at its peak.
The third painting is a bit newer as compared to the previous two, which comes under the realm of
the 20th century. This detailed painting is titled as Urban landscape by Enric Pinet in 1934,
depicting multi colored and expressive urban landscape. This painting shows the development of
city life where nature is scarce and chimneys are exhaling

The Stock Market s Impact on Our Lives Essay
Every weekday from the hours of 10am to 4pm $169 billion dollars on average trades hands from
one party to another. It s the New York Stock Exchange and has been trading stocks since 1817.
The stock market has a definite impact on our lives (just ask those who lived during The Great
Depression.) It is an institution that has made people unfathomably wealthy, along with impossibly
poor. Today the New York Stock Exchange
has over 2,300 different companies trading stockvalued
at just over 16 trillion dollars. Currently there are over one hundred unique stock exchanges
throughout the world. A Stock exchange provides a means for companies to raise capital through

A company reserves the right to raise and lower the exact amount of the dividend via press
releases. The New York Stock Exchange was not always the financial giant it is today. When it
first began in May of 1792 it only traded five securities, the first of which was the Bank of New
York. At the start only twenty four brokers were allowed to participate in trading. It wasn t until
1817 that the New York Stock Exchange began to embody something close to what we know
today. All of the 24 brokers established a constitution of rules with how the exchange must
operate. These rules included everything from how one s self could lose their membership to
fines for swearing. More importantly though they protected the integrity of the exchange with it
s regulations. The New York Stock Exchange has had its fair share of tragedies as well. In 1920 a
bomb went off outside of the exchange killing 38 people; the largest act of terrorism on United
States soil at the time. The bomber was never apprehended. The most destructive event of the
stock exchange s life was the Crash of 1929. After World War I the U.S economy was doing quite
well. From the period of 1925 to 1928 the stock prices began to rise rapidly. The stock market
appeared to families as a secure, strong means to increase their money. Just about everyone was
putting their money into the stock market in order

Van Nguyen Should Be Abolished
In my opinion, I believe Van Nguyen should have been given clemency. While he was convicted
of drug trafficking, Singaporean police should have not carried out the execution for reasons
such as: inhumanity and contradiction. In today s world we all want to move towards a violence
free society, and I can t see how dishing out capitol punishment helps our move. It is contradicting
and makes our plea for violence free seem meaningless. I believe no one deserves to die, and that
we all make mistakes, some worse than others but we should all be given a second chance.
Furthermore, I don t believe that executing Van Nguyen will deter future drugtraffickers from this
type of behavior. Instead, what should have happened was, the Singaporean governmentshould have
still sentenced Van Nguyen to a penalty, but one that will allow people to rectify their mistakes,
and reflect on their choices and understand the consequences that are involved and what the effects
are on others. Finally, I can understand Tony Abbot s statement, about people do need to
understand that drug trafficking is a very serious offence , it is clear that while traveling overseas
you are out of the Australian governments control, you leave our democracy and enter another, and
it is important to familiarise yourself with other laws, but in the end, the decision made on Van
Nguyen s life was unreasonable.
I believe that the amount of heroin and in fact all drugs are enough to cause many drug related
deaths. I also

How To Change The Dress Code
If my school were to change the dress code, there are multiple things I would change. I would
like for them to change the rule about leggings. Not everyone has the same body type, boys need
to learn to control themselves, and students have to buy more clothes to wear that fit the dress
code. Some people can get away with wearing leggings which are usually people with a non
curvy body. Some people can t help if they are curvy. Leggings are very comfortable, so if
someone with that body type wanted to wear them, they can t because it s noticeable so they
would get in trouble right away. Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with leggings. So if they
re going to have the rule they should make sure they enforce it equally or not have it all.

Gregory Johnson Pros And Cons
In 1984, in front of the Dallas City Hall, the defendant Gregory Johnson and the Revolutionary
Communist Youth Brigade protested the Reagan administration policies. During this protest,
Johnson burned an American flag on the steps of city hall. Johnson was arrested, tried, and
convicted of violating a Texas law that outlawed the desecration or destruction of the United States
flag. Johnson was sentenced to one year in jail and had to pay a $2,000 fine. Johnson appealed
the conviction stating that the Texas law was a violation of his first amendment right to freedom

The flag is a national symbol of our country that represents all Americans. Americans have fought
and died for over 200 hundred years for our flag to continue to be flown in our free country. The
United States flag is so important to the U.S. that presidents and other legislators have tried to go
against this ruling. Most recently was President Trump, but Hillary Clinton and former president
George H.W. Bush have all proposed legislation to protect the flag. This shows that the American
flag does not represent just one political party. Finally, multiple other countries have made it
illegal to burn their country s flag. France, Italy, Finland, Germany, China, and 11 other countries
have made it illegal to burn their country s flag. These countries have determined it to be a
betrayal to the country and have large fines and extensive jail time for those who violate these

How Nicaragua s Of Special Law 364 Blocks The Fnc
In the late 1900s, several Latin American governments, including Nicaragua, began drafting and
enacting anti FNC (forum non conveniens) statues to counter its effects. FNC is a legal doctrine
which authorizes a court to reject a foreign plaintiff s case on grounds that there is a more
appropriate and convenient forum, the plaintiff s home nation s court. They enacted Special Law
364 to block or counteract the FNC dismissal of cases brought to the United States by former
Nicaraguan agricultural banana plantation workers who claimed sterility from exposure to the toxic
pesticide dibromochloropropane (DBCP) while working for the Dole Food Company. In
Rozencranz and Roblin s article, Tellez v. Dole: Nicaraguan Banana Workers Confront the U.S.
Judicial System, the question of whether impropriety by Judge Victoria Chaney in the writ
proceedings and whether an error by the appellate court in analyzing those proceedings took
place is raised. This paper will examine how Nicaragua s enactment of Special Law 364 blocks
the FNC and can be called a significant impetus fraud that does not comply with international
standards for due process. We will also focus on the legal defense strategy that Dole s attorney s
employed after the Tellez juryverdict and prove how it is aimed to discredit the DBCP plaintiffs;
as well as how Judge Chaney facilitated this strategy by disabling the adversarial process which
suggests that Judge Chaney s method of evaluating evidence is indeed flawed and

Experimental Research And Experimental Methods
Experimental
To be competitive as renewable energy recourse turbines in wave energy generation must be robust
and economical for a number of years. Approaches utilize experiments to characterize and predict
the effect of parameters involved. One of which is advancements to turbine blades due to unsteady
hydrodynamic loads. Characterizing these loads can determine their fatigue life and determine a
more reliable material to be used for manufacturing the blades avoiding premature failure.
Reliability is necessary due to most renewable wave energy devices are being placed in remote
locations where it is not economical to maintain or replace failed hardware. Turbulent flow across
the turbine blade creates moments and bending of the blades ... Show more content on

This loading in a circular motion is associated with yet another type of loading which is dynamic
inflow.
The objective of recent experiments is to study and experimentally quantify the unsteady loads on
a horizontal axis turbine blade from turbulent forces with similar operating conditions in which the
boundary layer is maintained along the edges of the blades. Therefore a new data set was to be
obtained providing bending moment responses to oscillatory frequencies and velocity amplitudes.
By performing a series of multi frequency and half sinusoidal experiments may demonstrate
whether single frequency forcing could be applied to model these more general responses2. A
recent article titled Blade Loading on Tidal Turbines for Uniform Unsteady Flow2 performs the
experiment with valid materials and methods in order to better predict this phenomenon of
turbulent loads and fatigue life along with the results of the experiment.
Another recent experimental approach is decreasing cost per installed kilowatt. In order to utilize
alternative energy such as wave energy it must be as cheap or as cost effective as current energy
sources such as fossil fuels. Harnessing energy from alternative sources and then converting the
energy into electrical energy would reduce the demand of current processes. Worldwide ocean
power capacity is approximately 6 Megawatts and over the next few years it is projected to increase
to 35 Megawatts3. For this reason

Descartes Meditations On First Philosophy
Descartes uses the dream experience and the idea of an evil genius to explain that our senses can
deceive us. Descartes explains that there is systematic doubt meaning our sense experiences such
as sight, smell, touch, taste, and hear can deceive us. However, Descartes explains how sight
(vision) can deceive us, such as our dreams. Descartes goes in deeper to explain his dream theory
in the First Mediation in the Meditations on First Philosophyby saying that there isn t a way for us
to determine whether the experiences in our dreams from those experiences when we are awake
because they are real that they are able to deceive us. This is because while we are dreaming, we
usually are not aware that we are dreaming. For example, dreams can deceive us by experiencing
a visual sensation. Imagine while you are dreaming of being fully clothes with a shirt, pants,
and shoes. Descartes explains the visual sensation of our dreams must have had influence from
outside objects and that those objects in our dreams do exist in the outside world. So, even
though our dreams may look real it is false. The main question comes into play, How do we know
if we re not dreaming now? we don t he explains because if everything in our dreams feel so real
and everything right now feels right. How do we know if we re not dreaming right now?... Show

good He would not deceive us. God is powerful enough to deceive us about everything but God

The Evil Genius and God are both extremely powerful and smart, however, the Evil Genius is bad
and bad people are capable and can deceive us. Descartes now have a reason to doubt contingent

Out Of State Tuition
Out of state tuition shouldn t limit people who seek a better education. When looking for
collages to go to people tend to stay in state because the cost is cheaper. What is the actual tax
dollars that go to the in state students? Schools collage shouldn t be limited to just your state
based on cost but it should be something you chose based on how good the school is. To fix this
problem you could either have a universal tax that gives money to all schools in America this way
schools have to give everyone who wants to go to their school pay the same cost. The other idea I
have to fix this problem is to use the money the schools get already and have everyone take a cut

As we ve seen there are schools that do so but not too many are willing to follow that. Another
answer to this problem is scholarships and grants. But not all of us are the next Einstein or Coble

strive for improvement for those that have yet to prove the worth in this world can there more
scholarships that can be won by us students who are not the best of the best but want to learn.
Cheaper tuition, more school scholarships, easier scholarships, and my personal favorite grants are
ways we can make education more affordable to the average college student. I just wish that we

Witchcraft Hysteria Of Salem, Massachusetts
When one thinks of the word witch today, one pictures a withered old crone from fairytales or a
Halloween costume. In short, people associate a witch immediately with fiction. However, in
Europe, witches were a very real threat. Between 1400 and 1800, historians estimate that upwards
of 50,000 people were killed after being convicted as witches in Europe (Give Me Liberty, p. 109).
As colonists settled in North America, they not only brought new customs, plants, animals, and
diseases, they brought their superstitions. Witch executions were relatively rare in America, that is,
until the 150 convictions and 19 executions of witches that took place in Salem, Massachusetts
beginning in 1691 (Orr, September 30, 2015). Though the causes of the mania are still hotly
debated even today, the primary cause of the witchcrafthysteria that captivated Salem,
Massachusetts in the 1690 s was socioeconomic tensions within the community. The town of
Salem was actually split up into two distinctly separate settlements. The village of Salem was
characterized by farmers who depended heavily, if not exclusively, on agriculture for their
livelihoods. The town of Salem, as it was situated on the water, was comprised primarily of well
off merchants. The two technically made up the same town, but it was as if there was a boundary
line separating them. This divide was not just one of housing; the incomes of the village and the
town were vastly different. The town inhabitants made much more money

The Integration Of Uzbekistan And Islamic State
The IMU began in 1989 in order to form a protection force for developing small businesses in the
Soviet Union. The group was referred to as Adolant which means justice in Uzbek. This
movement began in the Fergana Valley region which sits in Namangan, Uzbekistan (Stein, 2014,
para. 2). In 1998 the IMU shifted its operations to overthrow the current leadership of Uzbekistan
and follow Sharia making it an Islamic State. The IMU did not agree with the way Islom
Karimov was running Uzbekistan as president (encyclopedia of espionage, 2015, para. 1). Osama
Bin Laden provided the IMU with 130,000 dollars in a trip to the mountains of Tajikistan. The
money was handed directly to Namangani who was the current financier for the IMU (Ruzaliev,
2004, para. 9).
According to Ruzaliev (2004), A few weeks later, a meeting took place in Karachi between the
members of Islamic organizations from Pakistan, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, the Palestine, Kashmir,
Uzbekistan, and Chechnia. They agreed to raise two million dollars to support the Holy Jihad
against Karimov s regime (para. 9).
IMU had been operating in northern Afghanistan at the time of the September 11, 2001 attacks and
were greatly setback when Operation Enduring Freedom kicked off (stein, 2014, p. 2). Stein stated

Rapid Acting (Prandial or Bolus) Insulin Analogs
Rapid acting analogs have different amino acid structure than that of human insulin. This causes
decrease in hexameric insulin formation after injection into the subcutaneous space. Furthermore
there is rapid dissolution of insulin into monomers, rapid insulin absorption into the bloodstream
and a shorter duration of action. In vivo studies have found that, rapid acting insulin analogs have
identical potency compared to regular human insulin and higher peak concentrations are achieved .

With injection in the abdomen, the peak concentration of insulin lispro is slightly higher and the
duration of action slightly shorter compared to that of administered in the arm or thigh. However,
insulin lispro is consistently absorbed faster than regular human insulin, irrespective of the site of
administration.
Pharmacokinetic studies have revealed that the peak plasma concentration of insulin lispro in the
first hour after injection is twofold higher and that the time to maximum concentration of insulin
lispro is less than half compared to that of human regular insulin. Compared with human regular
insulin at the same time, insulin lispro leads to a lower postprandial glycaemic peak, shorter time
to peak and lower total glucose excursion for the 0 4 h period. These characteristics enable insulin
lispro to be injected within 15 min of starting a meal. ,
The faster absorption and faster onset of the glucose lowering effect of rapid acting insulin
analogues lead to lower postprandial levels of glucose than those triggered by mealtime
administration of human regular insulin.

Guns Should Not Be Infringed Essay
Will not be Infringed or Do Not Tread on Me On the 15th of December, 1791, the second
amendment was adopted along with 9 other amendments alongside it. A well regulated militia,
being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall
not be infringed. When the founding fathers wrote this statement, it was a written as a command,
stating the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed. When the founding
fathers wrote this, they meant it in a sense so that the people can keep their government from
becoming tyrannical such as King George did. Without the amendment, the government could walk
all over the people without resistance. 27th of March, 2017, 23 year old Zach Peters responded to

people without a means of self defense. I understand the need to protect lives, but more guns in
the hands of law abiding citizens will result in more lives saved. When politicians pass these
laws, they must also realize criminals don t follow the same laws as law abiding citizens. If a
person means to do harm, they will figure out how do carry it out, whether it is against the law
or completely legal. Take a look at Great Britain, they don t allow their citizens to own firearms,
but there are still killings. People strap explosives to themselves, run and slash people with a

America Stands At A Crossroads
America stands at a crossroads. The Fascists in Europe and the Imperialists in Japan threaten the
very foundation of our nation. Our troops fight valiantly to beat back these enemies who seek to
encroach upon our values of freedom and equality. Yet, in the background, a domestic war wages
on. Of course, I refer to the plight of Negro Americans against Jim Crow. Our political leaders
constantly request the patience of Negro promising change is right around the corner. However,
many have come to understand the emptiness of these words. If change will not come from the top
then it must come from the people, and it begins with the integration of baseball. Why baseball?
you may ask. It is because baseball is the quintessential mark of being an American. European
immigrants, who are often different from native born Americans in terms of language and religion,
have been able to integrate into American life simply by playing or being fans of the sport. The
connections formed on the field and in the stands have given native born Americans and immigrants
an opportunity to connect, to understand, and to respect one another. This pattern of understanding
and respect coming through association has been seen elsewhere as well. I remember how
Negroes and Whites worked alongside one another in New York during the Great War. It was
undoubtedly a rough transition, yet because of firm management, very few problems arose as I
recall, not a single hate strike occurred during that time.

Papers On Jay Martin
We all have heard the phrase loose lips sink ships. On 19 May 2011, the Federal Bureau of
Investigations (FBI) painted another picture in our mind regarding this phrase. The in depth
investigation of Bryan Minkyu Martin revealed the real reasons why he betrayed the country for
his own benefit. This is a classic example to prove cyber espionagecases can be alarming to our
nation s national security.
Bryan Minkyu Martin was born in Seoul, Korea in 1988. Peter and Barbara Martin, a
psychologist and an intelligence specialist, adopted Martin at the age of two. His parents raised
him in the small town of Mexico in upstate New York. Eventually Martin graduated from Mexico

a result, Martin deserved the punishment given to him because he knew the consequences of

Essay on Setting in Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour
Elements of Setting in Kate Chopin s Short Story, The Story of an Hour
Setting exists in every form of fiction, representing elements of time, place, and social context
throughout the work. These elements can create particular moods, character qualities, or features of
theme. Throughout Kate Chopin s short story The Story of an Hour, differing amounts and types of
the setting are revealed as the plot develops. This story deals with a young woman s emotional state
as she discovers her own independence in her husband s death, then her tragic discovery that he is
actually alive. The constituents of setting reveal certain characteristics about the main character,
Louise Mallard, and are functionally important to the story ... Show more content on

The breath of rain seems to cleanse Louise as well, as she views this as a way to start her life
afresh. In this story, the time of year somewhat symbolizes her own internal springtime, further
developing the rationale behind her character. If this story took place in a different time of year, it
would not be as coherent. There would be no explanation for Louise s sudden attitude reversal from
mourning to enlightened anticipation of the future.
The Mallards house, the area where the entire action of the story takes place, is extremely
significant in understanding the subtleties of the plot and characters. The house is two stories tall,
with two main rooms shown in detail: the front parlor, which is downstairs, and Louise s bedroom,
upstairs. The two floors are significantly different, both in the mood and in the emotions brought
out in each one. It is in the parlor that Louise first hears of her husband s death and later ultimately
discovers that he lives. Yet she achieves true enlightenment and understanding upstairs, in her
bedroom. The particular level of the house that Louise is in conveys certain emotions and reveals
two different aspects of her character. Downstairs she is the good wife, mourning the loss of her
husband at first and later swooning from what the doctors believe to be joy that kills (14).
Downstairs she must act like the typical late nineteenth century woman, completely

Nelson Mandela s Fight For Freedom And Equality
The underlying need structure of the individual is what motivates his behavior in various
leadership situations. Leadership style thus refers to the consistency of goals or needs at different
situations (Fred Fiedler, 1967). One major individual from history that, in his lifetime fulfilled the
above quote is the former South African president, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, commonly known
as Nelson Mandela. Mandela has been described as one of the most influential figures in the fight
for freedom and equality in South Africa.
Mandela was born in 1918. His farther, Henry Mandela, was a tribal chief of Tembu. At the time
South Africa was ruled by white minority, Mandela helped to unite South Africa as it dismantled
apartheid, the cruel system of white minority rule. He symbolized for all of Africa a commitment to
democracy and freedom. For effective transformative education and transformative leadership, a
sympathetic position must be taken (Preece, 2013). Mandela demonstrated this thought his life time
as he was not only sympathetic to African indigenous values, but also able to see that taking the
same approach as his adversary s was not going to help further his cause, this is seen through his
encouragement of his followers to seek education to better their situations not violence.

The Nba Makes A Profit
The NBA makes a profit in many ways, for example the NBA makes millions of dollars off of
sponsorships, television contracts and selling merchandise. The National Basketball Association
recently signed a new TV agreement with TNT and ESPN to approximately make $2.6 billion per
season. Even with a total of 400 or so odd active players making an average of close to $5 million
annually, national TV contracts generate enough revenue to cover salaries and then some.
This graph depicts league revenue of the National Basketball Association from the 2001/02 season
to the 2014/15 season (Statistica, 2016). As seen the chart above clearly indicates the NBA makes
a profit and has been gradually increasing throughout the years, except for the season of 2011/12
but that s because the season was shorted due to the lockout that had taken place.
The NBA has many different sponsors. Sponsorship spending On the NBA Totals $739 Million

the NBA sponsors are Anheuser Busch, Gatorade, Coca cola, Adidas, Miller Coors, Kia Spalding,
Geico and etc. Anheuser Busch is the most active sponsor of the NBA. In time insurance overtook
autos to become the most active category sponsoring the NBA. Insurance companies are five times
more likely to sponsor professional basketball than the average of all sponsors, according to the

Like Price, Buffett has profited enormously through his investments. To apply Price s and Buffett s

population. Health care demands will continue to soar. In recognition of this fact, investors have bid

Theory Of Conformity And Social Control Theories Of Crime
Theory of conformity outlines the ideals that an individual will change values or behavior in order
to fit in with a group. When it comes to the social control theory of crime, this is a central concept
in understanding why people deviate from legal regulations. When looking at individuals without
dependable relationships, a committed presence within their community and an upbringing with
specific beliefs, it can be found that people are more likely to follow a life of crimeif they do not
present the listed characteristics (Orcutt 2011:97). According to Travis Hirschi (1969) there are
four, more definitive, central elements that cause people to maintain social norms; emotional

how they would wear the brand s clothes; however now it just shifts that focus to the actual clothes.
How strong is the brand story? What are the core brand associations and meaning narratives
associated with the brand?
The brand story was considered very strong. It is a high end brand that accounts such as
Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, etc. appreciated because it was the best performing brand. It could
have been too strong, before the repositioning, because it shifted certain segments away. People
associated the brand as for older people, well established in their careers as well as a mom
/grandmother brand. It had a very strong brand loyalty associated with it. As the company grew
older so did its customers. Some people did not want to be associated with that, and did not buy the
brand; therefore shifting younger segments away.
How healthy is the brand at the time of the case?
At the time of the case the brand was healthy but it was at a vulnerable point. There had been
economic downfall, so the industry as a whole was suffering but Eileen Fisher was stronger than its
competitors. Economic factors forced customers to go to discount brands and shy away from
department stores, therefore not only was Eileen Fisher losing customers its competitors were as
well. Compared

Muscle Cells Essay
Anatomy of Muscle Cells
There are three types of muscle tissue in the human body. These muscle tissues are skeletal
muscles, smooth muscles and cardiac muscles. Each of these muscle tissues has it very own
anatomical makeup, which vary from muscle to muscle. The muscle cells in a muscle are referred
to as muscle fibers, these fibers are skeletal muscle fibers, smooth muscle fibers and cardiac muscle
fibers.
The anatomy of a skeletal muscle fiber is formed during embryonic development. Skeletal muscle
fibers arise from a hundred or more small mesodermal cells called myoblasts. The mature skeletal
muscle fiber has a hundred or more nuclei. Once fusion occurs the skeletal muscle fiber will lose
the ability to undergo cell division. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The sarcoplasmic reticulum is a fluid filled system of membranous sacs. This system of sacs is
similar to smooth endplasmic reticulum in non muscle cells. In a relaxed muscle fiber the
sarcoplasmic reticulum store calcium ions, the release of these calcium cells, trigger muscle
contraction.
There are two types of structures which are even smaller, they are known as thick and thin
filaments. The filaments inside of a myofibril do not extend the entire length of a muscle cell,
instead they are arranged in compartments called sarcomeres. The darker middle portion of a
sarcomere is called the A band. The A band extends the entire length of the thick filaments. The A
band is a zone of overlap. The I band is a lighter less dense area that contains the rest of the thin
filaments, but has no thick filaments. A Z disk passes through the center of each I band.
The next form of muscle fiber is smooth muscle fiber, these fibers are considerably smaller than
skeletal muscle fibers. A single smooth muscle fiber is thirty to two hundred micrometers long,
thick centered and tapered at the ends. These smooth muscle fibers have a single nucleus that is
centrally located and oval in shape. Smooth muscle fiber contains thick filaments and thin
filaments. These filaments are in ratios of 1:10 and 1:15, but are not

Research Paper On Teenage Wasteland
When raising a child parents should consider what type of parent they are going to be to their
children. They should decide on which approaches they are going to make in regards to how their
child is going to act. There is no guarantee to know how a child is going to behave as they grow
older; it is important that parents take the steps necessary to ensure that they can help and try to
avoid losing their relationship with their children. A parents role in raising their children is
appreciation, encouragement, guidance, trust, and acceptance. It is not easy to raise a child, and
not all kids are going to turn out the way their parents expect them to. So, it is up to the parent to

One of the many roles of parents is making sure that their kids know that they are accepting their

Dodd Frank As An Effective Measure Against
After more than seven years after the financial crisis, there is a great debate among
politicians and economists as to what the best policies are to prevent such a catastrophe from
happening again. So in the aftermath of the financial meltdown, Congress passed the Dodd
Frank Act which brought in multitude of financial stipulations and rules that were aimed at
avoiding another disaster. There are some who see Dodd Frank as an effective measure against
the causes that led to the 2008 crisis. They view Dodd Frank as a comprehensive and powerful
tool to curtail systemic risk. On the other hand, there are critics who see Dodd Frank as a
symbolic piece of legislation that does nothing more than give lip service to those who demand
more stringent regulations. After a careful examination of the Dodd Frank, it can be shown that
Dodd Frank is not a symbolic piece of legislation, but a law that will give the government the
ability to mitigate the chances of systemic risk from tanking the financial system.
When discussing symbolic pieces of legislation, one must clearly mark the line that
differentiates symbolic laws from effective ones. Symbolic laws can be described as those that
are enacted with much publicity, but that are not truly designed to accomplish their purported
goals (Suarez 5). Essentially, when laws are passed they should do more than talk about the
problems but must actually give the ways in which the laws will deal with the problems. Now,

For this essay I aim to show the importance of memory and of remembering the past in The
Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid s Tale is a speculative fiction first
published in 1985 but set in the early 2000s. The novel was in response to changes in US politics
with the emergence of Christian fundamentalism, the New Right. Atwood believed that society
was going wrong and wrote this savage satire, similar to Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal ,
depicting a dystopia which she uses as a mirror to hold up to society. I will be focusing on the
main character and narrator, Offred, a handmaid who mingles memories of her life before the

She forgets where she is and remembers her past life as a waitress. The line between fantasizing
about the past and the harsh reality of her new life breaks down. She smiles blankly at the other
Handmaids and asks them how they are doing. She had a lapse similar to this at the Red Centre
where Handmaids were taught how to act in this new regime. Janine s mental state was frail to
begin with and her automatic reaction to scenes of brutality or stress set off her memories of her
previous life. Janine s breakdown shows how memories affect us. Janine cannot handle the
deprivation she is now faced with compared to the freedoms of her past.
There is a strong link between memories and hope. Raffaela Baccolini discusses this link in her
article The Persistence of Hope in Dystopian Science Fiction. She says that Utopia is maintained in
dystopia, traditionally a bleak, depressing genre with no space for hope in the story, only outside
the story. Offred does not have much, if anything, to stimulate herself with mentally. She is in a

Characteristics Of A High Concept Play
There are many characteristics to making a high concept play. High concept plays should have
pitches that are original and unique in concept, appealing to the audience, specific in details of the
story, obvious in potential, and relatively short in length. I do not think that my play is a high
concept playbecause I do not think that it can be sold by a pitch. I think that my play must be
read thoroughly to understand the concept of the play. I think that my play will take a more
traditional approach because it does not meet any of the requirements of a high concept play.
Specific interpretation is what the audience members associate with what they have observed in a
play. This play is about a girl that is fighting for her life and her family that must learn how to cope
with her loss in the end. Penny is the main characterof the play, and from the beginning of the play,
the plot and the rest of the characters revolve around her and her life. The play is meant to make
the audience think about the importance of the ones that are closest to them and how precious
life really is. There are several genres of theatricality that a play could be classified as. The main
types of plays are comedies, dramas, and tragedies. A comedy is a play that is usually light and
amusing that has a happy ending. A drama is a play that deals with middle or lower class
characters, and it is usually serious. A tragedyis a play that deals with tragic events, and it has an

The Problem with Teenage Childbearing in the United States
Teenage childbearing is serious social problem in the United States. The rates of teen parenting are
at is lowest, but the numbers still remain an issue. Teen parenting has been associated with negative
outcomes for the parents and their children. Many teenage parents and their families are unaware of
the disparities when becoming a teen parent. With outcomes of teen childbearing being identified,
teen pregnancyprevention needs to be further addressed. Addressing teen pregnancy and methods of
prevention will help strengthen families and promote healthy development in the future. Evidence
based teen pregnancy programs, parent involvement, and community involvement need to be
implemented to help decrease teen pregnancies and rates and sexual risk behaviors; a
comprehensive approach would be the most beneficial for youth.
Over the last two decades teen birth rates have declined, however the rates of teen births remain to
be higher in the United States than any other developed county. Teen birth rate is the number of
births per 1,000 mother s ages 15 to 19 years old. Teen parenting has been associated with many
negative outcomes for teen parents and their children. Low rates of maternal education, low
incomes, single parenthood, and subsequent births are some of the negative outcomes for teen
parents. Children of teen parents also have negative outcomes associated with poor school
performance, higher risks of child maltreatment, higher incarceration rates, and an

Themes In Animal Farm And George Orwell s Montgomery Boycott
Have you ever broken a rule before? Did you have a reason for it and what was the consequence?
For many of us, this question is very easy to answer. You had a clear reason and the consequence
were semi bad. People may say otherwise, but breaking the rule is right during certain circumstance.
Authors develop the idea of breaking rules by their characters and setting.
In the book Animal farm and the short story Montgomery Boycott, the author gives different
reasons why their characters broke the rule, whether they re good or bad. One of the ways
author can develop ideas is thru conflict and relationships. In most stories, using conflict spices
up the story. Readers don t want a normal boring school day, but a weird one with twist and
turns! Conflicts add emotion and drama, making the ideas more alive and realistic to the reader.
Like conflict, relationships do the same to a story. Every story has a relationship, whether to other
people, nature, society, or even to themselves. These create dynamic characters whose ideas are
more likely to pop out and influence yours ideas. These two methods of bringing forth an idea is
how Coretta Scott King and George Orwell developed their idea of tyranny and breaking unfair
rules. In the book Animal Farm, George Orwell uses time in order to develop his ideas about how
the Russian revolution went. George sprinkles the idea of tyranny down slowly in order to create
characters that keep on breaking their own rules. At first the story starts

A Rhetorical Analysis Of By Gimme Shelter By The Rolling...
Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones is influential because it talks about the chaos surrounding
the Vietnam War and protests concerning the war. The Rolling Stones believe that the chaos of
war has spread outside the realms of war as was traditionally known. The Rolling Stones have
never shyed away from controversy so a politically charged song was not inconcievable. Gimme
Shelter was written and released in 1969 in the thick of the Vietnam War and the height of it s
subsequent protest. The Vietnam War was known as The Living Room War because it was the
first consistently televised war and with the increased presence of television in culture avoiding
coverage of the war and its subsequent protests was impossible. Mick Jagger speaks to this... Show

In Gimme Shelter , The Rolling Stones sing, see the fire is sweeping our very street today , this
shows the frenzy and the extent of war protests in the late sixties. Prior to 1965, opposition to
the Vietnam War was primarily a leftist view but due to efforts by returning vetrans and media
publications a broad majority of Americans felt indifferent towards involvement in the war. High
profile figures such as Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Jane Fonda, Muhhamed Ali,
and John Lennon had all been outspoken opponents of the war. American religious groups took
a pascifist view and called for peace as soon as possible. In 1968 there were 221 protests at 101
universities as over 16,000 Americans were killed in Vietnam during that year and public
awareness of atrocities committed by the United States in Vietnam was heightened. By the end of
the 1960 s protesting had become violent as indicated by the line in Gimme Shelter , gimme
shelter or i m going to fade away which speaks to the feeling of danger and closeness to the war in
citizen s daily lives and the need for escapement. A faction of the Students for a Democratic Society
arose with a more militant stance and advocated for the destruction of governemnt property and war
materials they were known as the Weather Underground or the Weathermen. The Weathermen were
notorious for bombing campaigns in which they would target banks and

Nelson Mandel A True Inspiration For All Of Humanity
Nelson Mandela: From Vision to Transformation A true inspiration for all of humanity, Nelson
Mandela broke down barriers of social injustice, committing his life to the vision of a free and
democratic society. His dedication and inspiration to those considered underprivileged or
subjugated within their own governmental or political constraints serve as testaments to the power
of leading with compassion and humility. Through his leadership and years of self sacrifice,
Nelson Mandela became South Africa s first black president in 1994, when his greatest triumph
ending his country s apartheid system came to fruition. His commitment to his vision and his ability

Vision Vision, whether linked to an institution, business, or individual, provides purpose and is
critical to success. As argued by McFarland, Senn, and Childress (1994), Vision is to an
organization what purpose is to an individual. Any individual who has strong life purpose is
naturally motivated and moved to action. A vision for an organization has the same power,
serving as a higher purpose (p.94). Establishing a clear vision brings a sense of unity and
inspiration, whereby members of the team gain a sense of self motivation to follow in the same
direction (McFarland, et.al.). Ownership of a vision does not rest solely on the leader; in contrast,
uniting members of an organization and enabling them to share in the purpose are critical.
Visionary leaders have the compassion and commitment to a cause that inspire those around them
to believe in what they are doing. Visionary Leadership: Personal to Organizational Commitment
Vision is a critical component to success, as it unites members of an organization or group with a
common purpose. The creation of a vision, however, is not a simple process; as Yoeli and
Berkovich (2010) noted, The process of formulating a vision is long and complex and usually
begins with the leader s unique personal ethos (p.452). According to Katz (1999), when formulating
a personal ethos, a leader is trying to determine the motivating factor to influence others, identify the
purpose to

How long must a person be dead for it to be considered anthropology and not grave robbing? The
answer should be never, but many government officials don t agree. In the summer of 1996, a skull
was found in the Columbia River. After a police investigation, a nearly complete skeleton was
found. Forensic anthropologist James Chatters began to study the bones and after a carbon dating
test, the skeleton was found to be over 9,000 years old! Almost immediately five tribes, many
anthropologists (including Chatters), some government officials, and a few other groups began to
sue each other for the rights to the remains. The Native Americans believed the man to be their

Elements Of Comedy In Merchant Of Venice
The genre of William Shakespeare s most performed play has been debated for a long time: is it
a comedy or a tragedy? The play has elements of both genres, but one is clearly prevalent. While
the story hits upon the tragic element of despair, The Merchant of Venice by William
Shakespeare, is a comedy because lovers are separated, characters are in disguise, and the story has
a happy ending.
From the very beginning of The Merchant of Venice, we see the comedic element of lovers being
separated time and time again. First, Jessica and Lorenzo are not permitted to marry or see each
other because of their different religions and her father s fervent hatred for Christians. Lorenzo
certain, and my love indeed / For who love I so much? (2.vi.30 31). Jessica and Lorenzo and
certain they are in love, despite the distance that separates them. Later, in Act 3, Bassanio must
leave Portia to return to Venice where Antonio is waiting to see him one last time. And then away
to Venice to your friend! / For never shall you lie by Portia s side / With an unquiet soul (3.ii.317
19). This separation between Bassanio and Portia allows the audience to connect with the irony of
these young lovers struggle. These separations between lovers lead to another element of comedy
costumes.
Of the three women in this play, each dresses as a man once, furthering the comedic air with
clever disguises. Jessica starts off the chain of costumes by dressing up as a torchbearer to flee
from her father s house. Cupid himself would blush / To see me thus transformed to a boy
(2.vi.39 40). Jessica s readiness to run away from her father triumphed over her embarrassment
about dressing as a man. In the same way, Portia and Nerissa don the clothes of lawyers to save
their husbands friend. There you shall find that Portia was the doctor / Nerissa there, her clerk
(5.i.298 9). This lie s hilarity is furthered when Balthazar is praised for being smarter than most
men. But the comedic elements don t stop there.
Accordingly, almost every character receives happy news at the end of the play, which doesn t
happen in tragedies. Antonio learns that his despair was all for naught when Portia hands over a
letter. Sweet lady, you have given me life and

Negative Effects Of Napoleon Bonaparte
The Napoleonic Age was the most controversial time period. Some people thought Napoleon was a
reformer, while others thought he was an absolute dictator. One thing is for sure though, that he
shaped France/Europe into the continent/country is is today. Napoleon was very narcissistic and
cruel, and did not value humanlife. At the same time, he believed in education and instruction.
Also, he positively influenced the schools and created the Napoleonic Code, which solved a lot of
France s problems. Napoleon Bonaparte had a negative impact on France, because he mistreated the
rights that every human should obtain, created a bad image for other countries, and only really
cared about absolute power.
Napoleon was born in Corsica, Italy and was entered directly into the Military, at age ten.
Napoleon s leadership, and role as emperor, was heavily based around the fact that all of his
childhood was being trained in the military! Some people view this in a negative light (seeing other
people just as a target, and appreciating human life.) Some people on the other hand, view this in a
positive light (Being a good instructor, and knowing how to make the right moves with politics.)
During the French revolution the citizens of France tried to create a republic, and when they failed
continuously, Napoleon Bonaparte stepped up and became a strong leader in France. In 1799, the
government started to grow more and more corrupt, and that s when Napoleon came into play.

Incarceration of African American Males Essay
Introduction
The trend of African American males between the ages of 25 and 29 has seen a dramatic increase of
incarceration. Attention has been focusing on areas of housing, education, and healthcare but the
most prominent problem for African American males is the increase in the incarceration rate.
African American males between the ages of 25 and 29 incarceration rate has been thought, by
many, to be caused by economic factors such as under employment or unemployment, poor housing,
lack of education, and lack of healthcare. Yet, others believe it is due to the imbalance of minorities
within the criminal justice system, such as judges, lawyers, and lawmakers.

Decades of failed public and private remedies for chronic disparities and disadvantages in
communities of color invite us to reexamine systems and institutions that provide and restrict
opportunity in new ways (Lawrence, K., 2011). The causes seem to be intertwined being poor
equals, equals a poor education, equals lack of employment, and ultimately equals an increased rate
of crime.
Consequences
The causes seem to be intertwined being poor, equals lack of education, which equals lack of
employment, which equals increased rate of crime which equals impossibility to join criminal
justice system. Also, many of these men are incarcerated while all the other non incarcerated
American young men are finishing school, starting careers, earning seniority at work, marrying and
having children thus gaining capital. Even when released from prison, these men return back to
their communities with a felony record that will pose extreme problems for them. The
incarceration leads the released convict into a lower social class even if they were considered
lower class Americans prior to their incarceration; they now are lower in social class standing in
most instances. This leads to a poor African American community, perhaps as many as 50% of the
male population will have been in prison. These incarcerated African American Males, who are in

The Welfare Policy Regulates All Stages Of A Child s...
Policies are important to all that could benefit from them and could help our communities by
helping them. Also, policies are important because our government is strapped for money. Since
we face serious fiscal problems with the government running large deficits every year. Meaning we
have to be smarter about our social welfarepolicies. It needs to be ensure that they really work so
that they are not wasting money. Moreover, in 2004 in the United States about 3 million children
were investigated because of alleged abuse or neglect. From that investigation 872, 000 children
were confirmed victims of maltreatment; and an estimate 1,490 children died from abuse or neglect

The bureaucratic model that was designed to legitimize the professional aims of child welfare
work became a principal barrier to the use of family preservation models in public agencies. This
bureaucratization is traced to the efficiency paradigm that began to emerge in the early part of the
twentieth century when a shift occurred form cause to function and from the democratic to the
bureaucratic organization. Lubove described the origins of the efficiency paradigm in social work
as follows:
The quest for efficiency and administrative technique in social agency operations paralleled the
caseworker s efforts to reduce the range of intuition, subjectivity, and unpredictability in her own
work. In both cases the volunteer introduced an element of uncertainty. Neither her livelihood nor
social status depended upon conformity to agency policy or to the standards and procedures of
professional casework. Volunteer service conflicted with the administrator s desire for rational,
efficient organization and the social worker s identification with the agency as a vehicle for
professional achievement. (Lubove, 1965, p.161)
The efficiency pursued as a means for legitimizing the professional social worker has had its
consequences. Today s public child welfare agency has devolved into the organization type that
sociologist, Max Weber feared in defining the pure bureaucratic type: bureaucratic efficiency has
reduced the organization s capacity to respond to

New Jersey History

and its nickname the garden state . But what most people don t know is its history. Some don t

people may recognize like the New JerseyDevils and the Atlantic City Cardsharks. New Jersey
one of the thirteen original colonies, was founded in 1664 by Lord Berkley and Sir George
Carteret because the king of France wanted to explore the unknown land in between
Newfoundland and Florida, the Dutch, Swedes, and the Finnish wanted to settle there because
of trading, and because the British took over because they wanted to add it to their colonies.
Giovanni Da Verrazano was the first European that traveled across the ocean in 1524 (Tamara Orr).
He was looking for an unknown area between Florida and Newfoundland. He ended up in what
people know today as New Jersey. He anchored off in Sandy Hook. The colonial history of New

The Importance Of College For College
Choosing a college is stressful and the pressure to make the right decision can become
overwhelming. When determining which college to attend, college expenses become a primary
focus for families, many times outweighing the preferred educational institution. My first choice for
out of state colleges is San Diego State Universityand my preferred choice for an in state collegeis
the University of Arizona. While researching and comparing which college is the favored
institution for me to attend, there are many financial considerations that are imperative to making
an educated decision including: base tuition, the application fee required for admission, the cost of
books, the distance from home and travel costs, the climate, the cost of food, housing and other
necessities.
The five major methods of paying for college are: paying out of pocket; scholarships; grants;
loans; and work study. My first and preferred approach to pay for college is the look to my parents
for tuition payment. Education is extremely important to my family, my parents have provided me
with an excellent education attending Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Grade School and Xavier
College Preparatory, a private Catholic High School. My parents have always saved for my
educational expenses, and set aside money in a 529 college fund savings account. Monies in a 529

How Does Einhard Achieve Responsibility Of The Merovingian...
Einhard s opening chapter of his biography, Life of Charles the Great, provides its audience with
an extremely harsh representation of late Merovingian kings. For a long time, he claims, these
kings have had no true power or authority, and possessed nothing more than an empty title. The
impression given is that it is the mayor of the palace, instead, who holds true power in the kingdom;
all of the wealth and all authoritative responsibility. The king then, can be seen as nothing more
than a figurehead.
The portrait Einhard paints of the Merovingian royalty is quite a demeaning one. However, we
know that the Merovingians royal claim was still respected by their subjects. This is evidenced by
the failed coup d etat, which Grimoald, serving as

Each woman from the play introduced themselves by saying where they were from and explained
their story. I believed that the actors took their role seriously and was able to bring the emotional
aspect to the play and some were able to bring previous experience to the reading of the play.
At the end of the play, each colored woman found God in themselves and finally loved her . I
think this means that after years of being abused, they found God and the joy and happiness they
need to finally love themselves because their husbands were not doing

Hair In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
Historically, the pinnacle of beauty was a woman s hair. In cultures all around the world, hair was
considered to be the keeper of the soul and an important symbol of womanhood and virginal state.
Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock proves the ways in which hair was prized as an
embodiment of a woman s sexuality. In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market hair is used as a form of
currency and a vehicle for giving into temptation, eliciting notions of Eve s original sin.
Furthermore, the poem bears resemblance to Eve eating the forbidden fruit from the Garden of
Eden. An important similarity between these two is how each story is presented: through third
person omniscient. This perspective evades bias and favors morality. However, in Pope s... Show

By placing economic value on the hair of the women in each story, the women themselves are
debased. However, both victims of sexual trespass respond to their attackers in different ways.
In The Rape of the Lock Belinda completes the ongoing campaign of war by temporarily
incapacitating the Baron who cut her hair by blowing snuff in his eyes then wielding her
makeshift sword at him demanding that he restore the lock. Similar to how the sisters of Goblin
Market reach a peaceful resolution by the end, Belinda s hair will eventually grow back. The
now clichГ© makeover scene in Canto 1 symbolizes her transition from girlhood through
aesthetic alteration. This scene is reminiscent of a religious experience, a sacred rite. Belinda is
robed in white as her heavenly image appears in the mirror. In Rossetti s piece, Laura is rendered
physically incapable of reacting to the goblin men, so someone who cares about her must
sacrifice themselves. Laura s physical incapability symbolizes her lack of value now that she is
no longer virginal. Her disposability as a now sexually experienced woman is reflected during her
fruit feast when the poet notes that she flung away the emptied rinds. Laura could be considered an
emptied rind, as there is no return of her

As of December 31, 2003 the amount of the Capital Lease liability that is current equals $8.47 (the amount by which the principal will be reduced). This estimate differs from current maturities of capital leases because current maturities ($25) represent leases that will be retired during 2004. The payment of $44 is to the portfolio of all leases and therefore reflects the interest and principal portions in terms of all of the leases. The amount that actually went to interest and principal cannot be determined without accounting for each lease individually. J. i. The present value of the future minimum lease payments is equal to $8,546. This amount was calculated by discounting each of the payments at the given rate of 12%. ii. Essay On Residential Leases If the damage is caused by the tenants misuse, abuse or neglect they are responsible for the repairs REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE My lease agreement says that the tenant is responsible for all repairs. I thought the landlord was responsible for repairs? In all residential leases, the landlord has the responsibility to keep the rental property in good repair. • 5. Spring Landscape With A Creek By Frantisek Kavan Spring landscape with a creek is an impressionist oil painting by a Czech painter named Frantisek Kavan in 1890. This piece of art is chosen because it portrays an image of a landscape in which a creek of water is running through the meadows. The golden sun seems like taking a bath in the water hedged by green fields where yellow flower buddings can be seen. This painting shows the time of year when trees are saying goodbye to the winter season and are ready for life to return with spring. It seems as if this painting is saying goodbye to the history and introducing the new impressionistic art of 19th century. This painting is a simple landscape but it depicts the basic elements of life that are needed by a human to survive rather than materialistic things. Anyone who sees this painting is absorbed in it as the artist has painted it fresh which shows an optimistic thought when the glance goes from deserted trees to the green meadows and the water creek and finally to the flowers . This picture resembles a strong feeling of the presence of a creator who rescues us from destruction to the spring of life when life is at its peak. The third painting is a bit newer as compared to the previous two, which comes under the realm of the 20th century. This detailed painting is titled as Urban landscape by Enric Pinet in 1934, depicting multi colored and expressive urban landscape. This painting shows the development of city life where nature is scarce and chimneys are exhaling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s the New York Stock Exchange and has been trading stocks since 1817. The stock market has a definite impact on our lives (just ask those who lived during The Great Depression.) It is an institution that has made people unfathomably wealthy, along with impossibly poor. Today the New York Stock Exchange has over 2,300 different companies trading stockvalued at just over 16 trillion dollars. Currently there are over one hundred unique stock exchanges throughout the world. A Stock exchange provides a means for companies to raise capital through issuing stock. A company reserves the right to raise and lower the exact amount of the dividend via press releases. The New York Stock Exchange was not always the financial giant it is today. When it first began in May of 1792 it only traded five securities, the first of which was the Bank of New York. At the start only twenty four brokers were allowed to participate in trading. It wasn t until 1817 that the New York Stock Exchange began to embody something close to what we know today. All of the 24 brokers established a constitution of rules with how the exchange must operate. These rules included everything from how one s self could lose their membership to fines for swearing. More importantly though they protected the integrity of the exchange with it s regulations. The New York Stock Exchange has had its fair share of tragedies as well. In 1920 a bomb went off outside of the exchange killing 38 people; the largest act of terrorism on United States soil at the time. The bomber was never apprehended. The most destructive event of the stock exchange s life was the Crash of 1929. After World War I the U.S economy was doing quite well. From the period of 1925 to 1928 the stock prices began to rise rapidly. The stock market appeared to families as a secure, strong means to increase their money. Just about everyone was putting their money into the stock market in order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Van Nguyen Should Be Abolished In my opinion, I believe Van Nguyen should have been given clemency. While he was convicted of drug trafficking, Singaporean police should have not carried out the execution for reasons such as: inhumanity and contradiction. In today s world we all want to move towards a violence free society, and I can t see how dishing out capitol punishment helps our move. It is contradicting and makes our plea for violence free seem meaningless. I believe no one deserves to die, and that we all make mistakes, some worse than others but we should all be given a second chance. Furthermore, I don t believe that executing Van Nguyen will deter future drugtraffickers from this type of behavior. Instead, what should have happened was, the Singaporean governmentshould have still sentenced Van Nguyen to a penalty, but one that will allow people to rectify their mistakes, and reflect on their choices and understand the consequences that are involved and what the effects are on others. Finally, I can understand Tony Abbot s statement, about people do need to understand that drug trafficking is a very serious offence , it is clear that while traveling overseas you are out of the Australian governments control, you leave our democracy and enter another, and it is important to familiarise yourself with other laws, but in the end, the decision made on Van Nguyen s life was unreasonable. I believe that the amount of heroin and in fact all drugs are enough to cause many drug related deaths. I also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Americans have fought and died for over 200 hundred years for our flag to continue to be flown in our free country. The United States flag is so important to the U.S. that presidents and other legislators have tried to go against this ruling. Most recently was President Trump, but Hillary Clinton and former president George H.W. Bush have all proposed legislation to protect the flag. This shows that the American flag does not represent just one political party. Finally, multiple other countries have made it illegal to burn their country s flag. • 11. How Nicaragua s Of Special Law 364 Blocks The Fnc In the late 1900s, several Latin American governments, including Nicaragua, began drafting and enacting anti FNC (forum non conveniens) statues to counter its effects. FNC is a legal doctrine which authorizes a court to reject a foreign plaintiff s case on grounds that there is a more appropriate and convenient forum, the plaintiff s home nation s court. They enacted Special Law 364 to block or counteract the FNC dismissal of cases brought to the United States by former Nicaraguan agricultural banana plantation workers who claimed sterility from exposure to the toxic pesticide dibromochloropropane (DBCP) while working for the Dole Food Company. In Rozencranz and Roblin s article, Tellez v. Dole: Nicaraguan Banana Workers Confront the U.S. Judicial System, the question of whether impropriety by Judge Victoria Chaney in the writ proceedings and whether an error by the appellate court in analyzing those proceedings took place is raised. This paper will examine how Nicaragua s enactment of Special Law 364 blocks the FNC and can be called a significant impetus fraud that does not comply with international standards for due process. We will also focus on the legal defense strategy that Dole s attorney s employed after the Tellez juryverdict and prove how it is aimed to discredit the DBCP plaintiffs; as well as how Judge Chaney facilitated this strategy by disabling the adversarial process which suggests that Judge Chaney s method of evaluating evidence is indeed flawed and ... Experimental Research And Experimental Methods Experimental To be competitive as renewable energy recourse turbines in wave energy generation must be robust and economical for a number of years. Approaches utilize experiments to characterize and predict the effect of parameters involved. One of which is advancements to turbine blades due to unsteady hydrodynamic loads. Characterizing these loads can determine their fatigue life and determine a more reliable material to be used for manufacturing the blades avoiding premature failure. Reliability is necessary due to most renewable wave energy devices are being placed in remote locations where it is not economical to maintain or replace failed hardware. Turbulent flow across the turbine blade creates moments and bending of the blades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This loading in a circular motion is associated with yet another type of loading which is dynamic inflow. The objective of recent experiments is to study and experimentally quantify the unsteady loads on a horizontal axis turbine blade from turbulent forces with similar operating conditions in which the boundary layer is maintained along the edges of the blades. Therefore a new data set was to be obtained providing bending moment responses to oscillatory frequencies and velocity amplitudes. By performing a series of multi frequency and half sinusoidal experiments may demonstrate whether single frequency forcing could be applied to model these more general responses2. A recent article titled Blade Loading on Tidal Turbines for Uniform Unsteady Flow2 performs the experiment with valid materials and methods in order to better predict this phenomenon of turbulent loads and fatigue life along with the results of the experiment. Another recent experimental approach is decreasing cost per installed kilowatt. In order to utilize alternative energy such as wave energy it must be as cheap or as cost effective as current energy sources such as fossil fuels. Harnessing energy from alternative sources and then converting the energy into electrical energy would reduce the demand of current processes. Descartes explains that there is systematic doubt meaning our sense experiences such as sight, smell, touch, taste, and hear can deceive us. However, Descartes explains how sight (vision) can deceive us, such as our dreams. Descartes goes in deeper to explain his dream theory in the First Mediation in the Meditations on First Philosophyby saying that there isn t a way for us to determine whether the experiences in our dreams from those experiences when we are awake because they are real that they are able to deceive us. This is because while we are dreaming, we usually are not aware that we are dreaming. For example, dreams can deceive us by experiencing a visual sensation. Imagine while you are dreaming of being fully clothes with a shirt, pants, and shoes. Descartes explains the visual sensation of our dreams must have had influence from outside objects and that those objects in our dreams do exist in the outside world. So, even though our dreams may look real it is false. What is the actual tax dollars that go to the in state students? Schools collage shouldn t be limited to just your state based on cost but it should be something you chose based on how good the school is. To fix this problem you could either have a universal tax that gives money to all schools in America this way schools have to give everyone who wants to go to their school pay the same cost. In short, people associate a witch immediately with fiction. However, in Europe, witches were a very real threat. Between 1400 and 1800, historians estimate that upwards of 50,000 people were killed after being convicted as witches in Europe (Give Me Liberty, p. 109). As colonists settled in North America, they not only brought new customs, plants, animals, and diseases, they brought their superstitions. Witch executions were relatively rare in America, that is, until the 150 convictions and 19 executions of witches that took place in Salem, Massachusetts beginning in 1691 (Orr, September 30, 2015). Though the causes of the mania are still hotly debated even today, the primary cause of the witchcrafthysteria that captivated Salem, Massachusetts in the 1690 s was socioeconomic tensions within the community. The town of Salem was actually split up into two distinctly separate settlements. The village of Salem was characterized by farmers who depended heavily, if not exclusively, on agriculture for their livelihoods. The town of Salem, as it was situated on the water, was comprised primarily of well off merchants. The two technically made up the same town, but it was as if there was a boundary line separating them. Our troops fight valiantly to beat back these enemies who seek to encroach upon our values of freedom and equality. Yet, in the background, a domestic war wages on. Of course, I refer to the plight of Negro Americans against Jim Crow. Our political leaders constantly request the patience of Negro promising change is right around the corner. However, many have come to understand the emptiness of these words. If change will not come from the top then it must come from the people, and it begins with the integration of baseball. Why baseball? you may ask. It is because baseball is the quintessential mark of being an American. European immigrants, who are often different from native born Americans in terms of language and religion, have been able to integrate into American life simply by playing or being fans of the sport. The connections formed on the field and in the stands have given native born Americans and immigrants an opportunity to connect, to understand, and to respect one another. This pattern of understanding and respect coming through association has been seen elsewhere as well. I remember how Negroes and Whites worked alongside one another in New York during the Great War. It was undoubtedly a rough transition, yet because of firm management, very few problems arose as I recall, not a single hate strike occurred during that time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Muscle Cells Essay Anatomy of Muscle Cells There are three types of muscle tissue in the human body. These muscle tissues are skeletal muscles, smooth muscles and cardiac muscles. Each of these muscle tissues has it very own anatomical makeup, which vary from muscle to muscle. The muscle cells in a muscle are referred to as muscle fibers, these fibers are skeletal muscle fibers, smooth muscle fibers and cardiac muscle fibers. The anatomy of a skeletal muscle fiber is formed during embryonic development. Skeletal muscle fibers arise from a hundred or more small mesodermal cells called myoblasts. The mature skeletal muscle fiber has a hundred or more nuclei. Once fusion occurs the skeletal muscle fiber will lose the ability to undergo cell division. This ... This system of sacs is similar to smooth endplasmic reticulum in non muscle cells. In a relaxed muscle fiber the sarcoplasmic reticulum store calcium ions, the release of these calcium cells, trigger muscle contraction. There are two types of structures which are even smaller, they are known as thick and thin filaments. The filaments inside of a myofibril do not extend the entire length of a muscle cell, instead they are arranged in compartments called sarcomeres. The darker middle portion of a sarcomere is called the A band. The A band extends the entire length of the thick filaments. The A band is a zone of overlap. The I band is a lighter less dense area that contains the rest of the thin filaments, but has no thick filaments. A Z disk passes through the center of each I band. The next form of muscle fiber is smooth muscle fiber, these fibers are considerably smaller than skeletal muscle fibers. A single smooth muscle fiber is thirty to two hundred micrometers long, thick centered and tapered at the ends. These smooth muscle fibers have a single nucleus that is centrally located and oval in shape. Smooth muscle fiber contains thick filaments and thin filaments. • 34. Dodd Frank As An Effective Measure Against After more than seven years after the financial crisis, there is a great debate among politicians and economists as to what the best policies are to prevent such a catastrophe from happening again. So in the aftermath of the financial meltdown, Congress passed the Dodd Frank Act which brought in multitude of financial stipulations and rules that were aimed at avoiding another disaster. There are some who see Dodd Frank as an effective measure against the causes that led to the 2008 crisis. They view Dodd Frank as a comprehensive and powerful tool to curtail systemic risk. On the other hand, there are critics who see Dodd Frank as a symbolic piece of legislation that does nothing more than give lip service to those who demand more stringent regulations. After a careful examination of the Dodd Frank, it can be shown that Dodd Frank is not a symbolic piece of legislation, but a law that will give the government the ability to mitigate the chances of systemic risk from tanking the financial system. When discussing symbolic pieces of legislation, one must clearly mark the line that differentiates symbolic laws from effective ones. Symbolic laws can be described as those that are enacted with much publicity, but that are not truly designed to accomplish their purported goals (Suarez 5). Essentially, when laws are passed they should do more than talk about the problems but must actually give the ways in which the laws will deal with the problems. Now, the issue ... • 35. The Importance of Memory in Margaret Atwood s Handmaid s... For this essay I aim to show the importance of memory and of remembering the past in The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid s Tale is a speculative fiction first published in 1985 but set in the early 2000s. The novel was in response to changes in US politics with the emergence of Christian fundamentalism, the New Right. Atwood believed that society was going wrong and wrote this savage satire, similar to Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal , depicting a dystopia which she uses as a mirror to hold up to society. I will be focusing on the main character and narrator, Offred, a handmaid who mingles memories of her life before the revolution with her rebellious activities under the new regime (book group corner), as she... Janine s mental state was frail to begin with and her automatic reaction to scenes of brutality or stress set off her memories of her previous life. Janine s breakdown shows how memories affect us. Janine cannot handle the deprivation she is now faced with compared to the freedoms of her past. There is a strong link between memories and hope. Raffaela Baccolini discusses this link in her article The Persistence of Hope in Dystopian Science Fiction. She says that Utopia is maintained in dystopia, traditionally a bleak, depressing genre with no space for hope in the story, only outside the story. Offred does not have much, if anything, to stimulate herself with mentally. She is in a bare room with shatterproof glass that has been made safe to prevent her from committing suicide. Her only escape is her mind which harbours her memories. She has no hope in her story, which is her life, but she does have hope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For many of us, this question is very easy to answer. You had a clear reason and the consequence were semi bad. People may say otherwise, but breaking the rule is right during certain circumstance. Authors develop the idea of breaking rules by their characters and setting. In the book Animal farm and the short story Montgomery Boycott, the author gives different reasons why their characters broke the rule, whether they re good or bad. One of the ways author can develop ideas is thru conflict and relationships. In most stories, using conflict spices up the story. Readers don t want a normal boring school day, but a weird one with twist and turns! Conflicts add emotion and drama, making the ideas more alive and realistic to the reader. Like conflict, relationships do the same to a story. Every story has a relationship, whether to other people, nature, society, or even to themselves. These create dynamic characters whose ideas are more likely to pop out and influence yours ideas. These two methods of bringing forth an idea is how Coretta Scott King and George Orwell developed their idea of tyranny and breaking unfair rules. The play has elements of both genres, but one is clearly prevalent. While the story hits upon the tragic element of despair, The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare, is a comedy because lovers are separated, characters are in disguise, and the story has a happy ending. From that investigation 872, 000 children were confirmed victims of maltreatment; and an estimate 1,490 children died from abuse or neglect (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2006). The bureaucratic model that was designed to legitimize the professional aims of child welfare work became a principal barrier to the use of family preservation models in public agencies. This bureaucratization is traced to the efficiency paradigm that began to emerge in the early part of the twentieth century when a shift occurred form cause to function and from the democratic to the bureaucratic organization. Lubove described the origins of the efficiency paradigm in social work as follows: The quest for efficiency and administrative technique in social agency operations paralleled the caseworker s efforts to reduce the range of intuition, subjectivity, and unpredictability in her own work. In both cases the volunteer introduced an element of uncertainty. Neither her livelihood nor social status depended upon conformity to agency policy or to the standards and procedures of professional casework. Volunteer service conflicted with the administrator s desire for rational, efficient organization and the social worker s identification with the agency as a vehicle for professional achievement. (Lubove, 1965, p.161) The efficiency pursued as a means for legitimizing the professional social worker has had its consequences. Today s public child welfare agency has devolved into the organization type that sociologist, Max Weber feared in defining the pure bureaucratic type: bureaucratic efficiency has reduced the organization s capacity to respond to ... • 52. New Jersey History When people think about New Jersey in todays time they think of beautiful beaches, good diners, and its nickname the garden state . But what most people don t know is its history. Some don t even know it was one of the thirteen original colonies. New Jersey also has a few sports teams that people may recognize like the New JerseyDevils and the Atlantic City Cardsharks. New Jersey one of the thirteen original colonies, was founded in 1664 by Lord Berkley and Sir George Carteret because the king of France wanted to explore the unknown land in between Newfoundland and Florida, the Dutch, Swedes, and the Finnish wanted to settle there because of trading, and because the British took over because they wanted to add it to their colonies. Giovanni Da Verrazano was the first European that traveled across the ocean in 1524 (Tamara Orr). He was looking for an unknown area between Florida and Newfoundland. He ended up in what people know today as New Jersey. He anchored off in Sandy Hook. When determining which college to attend, college expenses become a primary focus for families, many times outweighing the preferred educational institution. My first choice for out of state colleges is San Diego State Universityand my preferred choice for an in state collegeis the University of Arizona. While researching and comparing which college is the favored institution for me to attend, there are many financial considerations that are imperative to making an educated decision including: base tuition, the application fee required for admission, the cost of books, the distance from home and travel costs, the climate, the cost of food, housing and other necessities. The five major methods of paying for college are: paying out of pocket; scholarships; grants; loans; and work study. My first and preferred approach to pay for college is the look to my parents for tuition payment. Education is extremely important to my family, my parents have provided me with an excellent education attending Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Grade School and Xavier College Preparatory, a private Catholic High School. My parents have always saved for my educational expenses, and set aside money in a 529 college fund savings account. Monies in a 529 are invested in a tax deferred account and marked specifically for college tuition, books and other education related expenses (Dickler). In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. How Does Einhard Achieve Responsibility Of The Merovingian... Einhard s opening chapter of his biography, Life of Charles the Great, provides its audience with an extremely harsh representation of late Merovingian kings. For a long time, he claims, these kings have had no true power or authority, and possessed nothing more than an empty title. The impression given is that it is the mayor of the palace, instead, who holds true power in the kingdom; all of the wealth and all authoritative responsibility. The king then, can be seen as nothing more than a figurehead. The portrait Einhard paints of the Merovingian royalty is quite a demeaning one. However, we know that the Merovingians royal claim was still respected by their subjects. This is evidenced by the failed coup d etat, which Grimoald, serving as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I liked how everything was set up and how each actor had a colored scarf . Each woman from the play introduced themselves by saying where they were from and explained their story. I believed that the actors took their role seriously and was able to bring the emotional aspect to the play and some were able to bring previous experience to the reading of the play. At the end of the play, each colored woman found God in themselves and finally loved her . I think this means that after years of being abused, they found God and the joy and happiness they need to finally love themselves because their husbands were not doing ... • 56. Hair In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market Historically, the pinnacle of beauty was a woman s hair. In cultures all around the world, hair was considered to be the keeper of the soul and an important symbol of womanhood and virginal state. Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock proves the ways in which hair was prized as an embodiment of a woman s sexuality. In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market hair is used as a form of currency and a vehicle for giving into temptation, eliciting notions of Eve s original sin. Furthermore, the poem bears resemblance to Eve eating the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden. An important similarity between these two is how each story is presented: through third person omniscient. This perspective evades bias and favors morality. However, in Pope s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By placing economic value on the hair of the women in each story, the women themselves are debased. However, both victims of sexual trespass respond to their attackers in different ways. In The Rape of the Lock Belinda completes the ongoing campaign of war by temporarily incapacitating the Baron who cut her hair by blowing snuff in his eyes then wielding her makeshift sword at him demanding that he restore the lock. Similar to how the sisters of Goblin Market reach a peaceful resolution by the end, Belinda s hair will eventually grow back. The now clichГ© makeover scene in Canto 1 symbolizes her transition from girlhood through aesthetic alteration. This scene is reminiscent of a religious experience, a sacred rite. Belinda is robed in white as her heavenly image appears in the mirror. In Rossetti s piece, Laura is rendered physically incapable of reacting to the goblin men, so someone who cares about her must sacrifice themselves. Laura s physical incapability symbolizes her lack of value now that she is no longer virginal. Her disposability as a now sexually experienced woman is reflected during her fruit feast when the poet notes that she flung away the emptied rinds. Laura could be considered an emptied rind, as there is no return of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
