Who Is Paid In A Game Of Thrones
In George R.R. Martin s novel A Game of Thrones, Catelyn tries to appease her husband Ned Stark as
he laments about feeling inadequate as Lord of Winterfell, revealing how his older brother Brandon
was originally supposed to rule as Lord until he passed away. In this scene, the cup represents the
responsibility of ruling over Winterfell, which is currently in Ned s hands (Martin 60). By reminding
Ned that the cup has passed , Catelyn chides Ned in his wallowing in the past and pushes him to
accept his brother s death and carry on the cup he has inherited. By stating that Ned must drink from

How Does Edmund Kemper Contribute To The Witch Archetype
I link Edmund Kemper to the to the witch archetype because the the film Carrie, Ed had a very
controlling yet protective mother. A trait of the witch is a figure of resentment and ridicule which I
connect to both Carrie s mother and Ed s. In the movie her mother resented Carrie because she sees
her as a punishment from one of her greatest sins. With Edmund, he witnessed all the pain that she
experienced within her life from a failed marriage with his father and felt as if he was a constant
reminder of that. Naturally a trait from the witch is supernatural powers, even though Edmund
Kemper doesn t have supernatural powers he does carry non supernatural powers. By having the
ability to manipulate and exploit others which makes them feel powerful.

Bettelheim Fairy Tales
In the essay Fairy Tales and Modern Stories , Bruno Bettelheim argues that fairy tales can provide
children more reassurance than realistic stories. Bettelheim used examples like The Little Engine that
Could , The Swiss Family Robinson and Rapunzel to show how realistic stories and fairy tales both
affected children s thinking. The author claims that modern stories don t compare to fairy tales,
because they can t provide an outlet for children to work through their problems and emotions.
Bettelheim explains that fairy tales give children the reassurance and hope that there s a better future
that is waiting for them. He argues that fairy tales can have a more impactful effect because it can
offer escape and consolation for troublesome events in their lives. He even claims that modern stories
fail to give the reader encouraging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the essay, we see the use of comparison between modern stories and fairy tales, mostly
through the way it could affect children s thinking. Modern stories though they have good messages,
don t give children the necessary tools to take away, that a fairy tale can achieve. We see this in
examples such as The Little Engine That Could when she tried to apply the lesson directly to her life,
she ended up with the feeling of inadequacy. With The Swiss Family Robinson the girl had a difficult
life and this story gave her an escape fantasy but this isn t a typical story that most children can
identify with. With the fairy tale Rapunzel it made her feel like if she grew her hair out and imagine
herself as Rapunzel, that a prince would rescue her. Even claiming, that without the story, it would
have lead to worse circumstances in her life. What Bettelheim proves is that fairy tales give children
the opportunity to have an outlet for their problems, but it also teaches them about what good and bad
in the world. The fairytale simplifies all situations and makes them relatable to

Procurement Routes And Contracts.
Ms. Drew Barryless, Director Drew Private Limited (D.ltd) 123 Low Street Oxford OX6 5PP 10th
November 2014 Dear Ms. Drew, Title : Procurement Routes and Contracts Stage 2 Following my
previous letter on stage 1 which is briefly about the design project, roles of architects and involving
consultants, next, I will continue with stage 2,the Procurement Routes and Contracts,as stated above.
1. I am concerned about your minimal understanding of procurement routes or the confusing array of
contracts that exist. Therefore, I will explain what a procurement route is and the advantages and
disadvantages of using a standard building contract over a bespoke one at the following pages. 2.
Other than that,in addition, I ll explain about the principles of Design and Built and Traditional
procurement routes and what is most advisable to you with regards to procurement route and contract.
Most project, before construction contract is being choosen, it is nearly crucial to think about the most
suitable procurement route. This is the way in which the client and contractor will work together to
realise the project, and will depend on several factors including quality, risk, timing, budget and the
extent to which you, as the client, wish to be involved in the process of construction. As listed below
are some different types of Procurement Route that may have you heard before: Traditional Design

Antigone Gender Roles Creon
Gender roles is a major theme in Antigone. The characters all have different ways of acting on the
same conflict. Antigone and Creon are the main characters, but Ismene and Haemon s roles are also
significant when it comes to the gender roles in the play. Due to the time period, women and men were
expected to act a certain way. Antigone and Haemon do not act like the typical woman and man of
their time; Creon and Ismene do. Gender roles are important in Antigone because the actions the
characters choose to take is what leads to conflict in the play.
In Antigone, there was a battle between two brothers, Eurydice and Polynices. They were battling for
the throne and both ended up murdering each other. Creon, the king of Thebes, ruled that

What Is Net Neutrality
Net Neutrality
Net neutrality is becoming a rising topic that could take the large community of internet users by
storm. Net neutrality according to Dictionary.com is: The principle that basic Internet protocols should
be non discriminatory. This definition by itself is very bland and leaves out many important details. I
agree whole heartedly with this idea of a truly open internet. Nobody questioned the free internet until
on January 14th, 2014, a federal court of appeals opposed the Federal Communications Commission
or F.C.C s Open Internet Order. This allowed for large internet companies, such as AT T or Comcast to

My Career As A Career
First starting this class I didn t know what exactly what I wanted to do with a career. I was between
two careers trying to figure out what would be best for me. The CIT career would be nice to learn
something entirely new and at the same time tie it in with business some how. The problem I was
having is trying to figure out what I was going to do with it. Doing the first set of activities in this

allow me freedom to choose what I want to do to be able to create what I want. My career must allow
me to choose my own hours. Don t get me wrong that I will only work a little because I am going to
put in hours around the clock. What I mean with flexible hours is that if something comes up I will be
able to work around it. It must also allow me to show leadership and call shot. Things that aren t so
important but still hold value is that my job should allow me not to work on Sunday. If I have to once
in a while because there is no way around it, that is understandable. My job should allow me to come
home for dinner most nights and be with my family. It could be not stressful but I deal with stress
good and don t mind it. It could also be not dealing with so many angry people but I can handle them
pretty will. The first option that I choose for my career list is computer networking architect. This
option really interested me because for my needs of a job it really fulfills the

Analysis Of Chronicles By Jean Froissart
In Jean Froissart s Chronicles we are immersed in a version of historical events in France that involve
French peasants in a current revolt against the nobility and knights that control the lands. With this
sample, the audience is unaware of the reasoning of why and what particularly bewildered peasants to
amass thus leading to a huge scaled revolt against the higher gentleman class. To recap the main
details of the story, the combined French peasants numbered in the thousands manage to destroy the
villages of (Beavoism, Corbie, Amiens and Montididier), wherein their path included raping of
woman, burning of towns, and brutally torturing captured knights, (Froissart, Chronicles.1.181). As
time passes with groups of nobility able to escape their terrorized lands, the tide turns when the
combined forces of the allied knights converge on the formidable force of peasants numbered in the
thousands at the town of Meaux. With the expected outcome, the knights readily equipped with
horses, full scale of armor, and fine weaponry defeat and drive away all opposition with no mercy.
Able to demolish the conglomerate of peasants the knights and squires would burn the town of Meaux
massacring all peasants left insight making sure that all Jacques would never again consider revolting
against their lords and masters. In this work where even though the author may have lived during this
period of such events, I believe it seems unlikely that he was either a participant or eyewitness of

Metropolis, by Fritz Lang and Frankenstein, by Mary...
The idea of progress being inspired by the past is revisited in Fritz Lang s 1927 film Metropolis.
Though the film s titular city is a gleaming landscape of technological advancement it is through the
hands of the arcane inventor Rotwang that the film s most stunning creation comes into being. Like
Frankenstein revisiting outdated natural philosphers for his inspiration, Joh Frederson, the figurehead
of Metropolis and the man to whom technology means the most, turns to the aged inventor in hopes of
pushing technology even further. The visit to Rotwang is like a visit to the past: his house is the only
edifice we see that is in no way modern (in fact it has such a clapboard appearance when held against

When held up to the monster in Shelley s novel, Rotwang s creation serves as an indication of how far
the technology in Metropolis has come. Though the basic premise of the two scenarios is the same,
namely the cobbling together of a being and its homuncular bringing to life, Rotwang s creation is a
much colder affair. Whereas Frankenstein built his monster from human remains, dabbling among the
unhallowed damps of the grave and collecting bones from charnel houses (Shelley, p. 62), Rotwang s
creation is made entirely of cold metal, it is a being of bronze and bolts. There is no room in Lang s
vision of technology gone awry for even the barest hint of human involvement. Everything is cold,
mechanical, and calculated. Even the workers, the lowest citizens on the societal totem and the only
human contact the machinery necessitates is at risk of being forced from their jobs by Rotwang s
metallic creation. If technology and progress are expressed by a metaphysical quandary in Shelley s
novel then in Lang s film it is entirely mechanical. Humanity comes second to the technology that

A supervisor watching over your shoulder while you work is disconcerting and can undermine your
confidence. Constant, unnecessary comments, questions, and interruptions by your boss decrease your
productivity and are often just downright irritating. If you ve yet to experience micromanagement in
the workplace, consider yourself lucky, so far. At some point, though, you re bound to encounter it,
and being able to identify what it is, why it is, and what you can do about it will help you handle the
situation gracefully. The Involved Manager Sometimes managers will frequently inquire about a task,

If they do return time and time again, perhaps preempting them to offer updates on your progress will
help relieve their anxiety. If your boss has a specific concern, a looming deadline, for example, they
will probably appreciate being able to take updates off of their mental to do list. It s important to listen
to feedback, answer questions, and offer assurance to your boss when it s needed. However, if their
anxiety driven micromanaging is keeping you from doing your job to the best of your ability, you need
to let them know. The goal is to instill trust and confidence that you ve got this and that you ll check in
regularly, especially if issues or uncertainties arise. The Controlling Manager There are, unfortunately,
those who micro manage as a result of deeper personality issues. This scenario isn t really at all about
managing it s about control. These supervisors have a need to constantly reaffirm their superior
position. Some even go so far as to undermine employees or situations to assuage their insecurities.
This type of micromanaging can manifest as subtle or extreme, either way, differentiating it from the
first two examples is important for formulating an appropriate response. If you think you might be
dealing with this type of manager, the previously mentioned strategies most likely will backfire. Any
attempts to reason will probably only

Socrate and the Examined Life
The significance of the Examined life
Adrian Eames 951105878
Section leader: Elizabeth Grosz
The Trial and Death of Socrates takes place during a time in Socrates life where he becomes most
reflective. During these final moments of Socrates life a theme arises, that of the unexamined life.
Socrates claims that the unexamined life is not worth living (Apology 38a). Profound as the statement
may seem it creates many questions; what is the unexamined life? And why is the idea of an examined
life so dear to Socrates? It s clear throughout the dialogues of The Trial and Death of Socrates has a
sort of obsession with questioning the world around him, and discovering truth. These dialogues

Socrates uses his apology to to attack the wealthy and those who chase after positions of power
Wealth does not bring about excellence, but excellence makes wealth and everything else good for
men, both individually and collectively (apology 30b). This quote provides two insightful pieces of
knowledge about Socrates. The first is that it shows his perception of wealth and what it is to be truly
wealthy, to Socrates quality of life is wealth. The second is it shows that Socrates believes that doing
the right thing will lead to a better quality of life, or what he considers to be wealth.
Above all Socrates greatest interest is the state of ones soul. While Socrates is accused and put to
death for being an atheist it is clear that Socrates does believe in the gods and in fact believes them to
be all powerful. Socrates seems aware that he is destined to be put to death from the start of the
dialogues as his main focus is always on right and wrong, pious and impious. After spending what
seems like an eternity trying to define pious and impious Socrates and Euthyphro arrive at a dead end,
Socrates shows his determination by saying so we must investigate again from the beginning what
piety is, as I shall not willingly give up before I learn this ( Euthyphro 15d). It s clear that Socrates

Human Body Continuously Need Blood Supply Essay
Human body continuously need blood supply to the cell in order to deliver oxygen and nutrient to the
cells and carrying out carbon dioxide out of the cell. In order to have good perfusion in tissue, a
person has to have good cardiac health and patent vessels. Edema also affect tissue perfusion. There
are many reasons that disturbed the normal flow of blood like ECG rhythm, congestive heart failure,
hypertension, gestational hypertension, mitral valve prolapse, coronary artery disease, and peripheral
vascular disease, which are also the exemplars of perfusion. There are many risk factors that can be
modified to prevent the perfusion problem.
Blood pressure greater than 140/90 is known as hypertension. Excessive sodium intake,
hyperlipidemia, obesity, diabetes, extreme tobacco and alcohol use, over activity of sympathetic
nervous system, and over production of sodium retaining hormones and vasoconstriction substances
are major contributing factors of hypertension. Heredity, age, and gender are also the risk factors for
hypertension (Bucher Dirksen, 2014). Hypertension is one of the most underlying cause of impaired
perfusion. High blood pressure for long period of time can shore up smooth muscles of artery as a
result of building up the strength through hypertrophy and hyperplasia, which results in decrease size
of arterial lumen. In older adult, the wall of artery become thick and hard due to above contributing
factors that I mention. This alter vasomotor tone and blood

Factory Act Of 1800 Dbq Analysis
Were Political or Economic Revolutions the Most Impacting on Society?
All throughout history, there have been plenty of revolutions. They have had both negative and
positive impacts on society and the economy. The Industrial Revolution by far, has been the most
impacting on the world. During the revolution, ingenious inventions helped to shape the revolution
and influence modern technology. As well as these inventions, the Factory Act of 1833 was passed,
which improved working conditions for children laboring in factories. In addition to these two things,
a new time standard was created that the whole country of Britain would eventually run on. In
contrast, some people believe political revolutions, like the Haitian and French, were more evolving.

Britain today runs on GMT, which stands for Greenwich Mean Time. The time is exactly five hours
ahead of the time it is in Connecticut, which runs on EST, or Eastern Standard Time. The countries:
United Kingdom, France, Spain, Algeria, Mali, Ghana are all in the GMT time zone. For these
countries, this means the line located on the Greenwich Meridian runs through them. During the
Industrial Revolution, Britain decided it wanted to set a standard time that would be followed by
everyone. It was the first country to do this. Railways in Britain, ...cared most about the
inconsistencies of local mean time, and they forced a uniform time on the country, (Document 7). The
country felt compelled to adapt a new standard of time, after railway workers expressed complaints of
inconvenience. This standard of time was known as, London Time. Furthermore, in November 1840,
the Great Western Railway was the first to follow London Time, which eventually influenced other
railways to do the same. By 1847, the majority of railways ran on London Time (Document 7).
Moreover, it was later approved that all stations be adopted to this new unit of time, known as GMT.
This recommendation was made on September 22, 1847, by the Railway Clearing House, which
eventually received approval from the General Post Office (Document 7). This was much more

Mitigating Human Rights and Security Abuses
The international community, although faced with many obstacles, can do more to improve how
people are treated in situations where human rights abuses could be occurring. Abuses against human
rights have occurred for a number of years, most notably against the Jews in World War Two. A
modern example where both Human security and rights have been impeded upon is in the context of
the ongoing Syrian conflict. War crimes are widely known to have been perpetrated by the Syrian
government and the resulting violence has left millions of Syrians displaced. The international

While this is true, they were punished through forms of torture which is explicitly outlawed in the UN
s 1984 convention against torture. The Syrian governments violations of human rights impact upon the
security of the Syrian people because being deprived of basic rights and freedoms places them at
grave risk of violence and harsh punishment from the state. The conflict quickly escalated to a point
where both sides have now been found guilty of committing war crimes such as torture and hostage
taking.
The extent to which human rights abuses have been occurring has alarmed the international
community and has prompted condemnation from international organisations such as the UN and
NATO. In spite of this condemnation however, little ground has actually been made in reducing
human rights abuses in Syria and upholding the security of its people. What little action that has
occurred includes Syria being convinced largely of the back of pressure from the US and Russia to
adopt ratify the UN treat against chemical weapons which it did so in September 2013 The
improvements made in Syria are minute though because rights breaches continue to occur in ways
which hugely threaten human security. Approximately 9 million Syrians have been displaced from
their homes in the wake of the civil war which has seen the government bomb towns where rebels
were supposedly hiding out. The current situation in Syria has resulted in decreased security for its
people which, in turn,

China s Economic Growth Due to Recent Foreign Policies
China s Economic Growth Due to Recent Foreign Policies
Recent Chinese economic policies have shot the country into the world economy at full speed. As
testimony of this, China s gross domestic product has risen to seventh in the world, and its economy is
growing at over nine percent per year (econ gen 1). Starting in 1979, the Chinese have implemented
numerous economic and political tactics to open the Chinese marketplace to the rest of the world. Just
a few areas China s government is addressing are agricultural technology, the medical market, and
infrastructures, like telecommunications, transportation and the construction industry. Chinese reform

Even after accounting for all the economic benefits recognized by the world, the Chinese still come
out as the country with the most gains. However, there are more motives behind China s market
reforms than just purely economic.
On the political front, China is fast becoming an integral part of international organizations. The
Chinese government is making a conscious effort to reenter
GATT (the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade), realizing the importance of creating a favorable
trading status among foreign nations. Slowing this progress, the 124 nation strong trade bloc has
requested that numerous conditions must be met by China before the nation can become a member of
GATT once again. Several of these provisions are the elimination of import prohibitions, restrictive
licensing requirements and other controls or restrictions; lifting of all restrictions on access to foreign
exchange and full convertibility of the Chinese currency (china tr. 2). Other important key themes
behind China s Open Door policies are economic and technological cooperation with the West (china
tr 1) and that China s government no longer supports Third World revolution. Instead, China realizes
that cooperation with developing countries would be far more practical. Although Chinese foreign
policy is aimed at opening the nation s entire economy to the world, it neglects the agricultural market

The Tunisian Revolution December 10, 2010, a Tunisian produce seller sets himself on fire in protest
of the government s extreme repression while under the leadership of the country s former President
Zine el Abidine Ben Ali. The prolonged frustrations lead Tunisia into revolution, provoking the
already corrupt and violent security forces to counteract in bloodshed. Still, and utilizing the Internet
and social media, the revolutionaries reached out to global communities to depict the horror, in hope
for help. Consequently and with success, Tunisians gained the sympathy they were seeking, while also
inspiring the Arab Spring to ignite, a mass of revolutions across Arab nations. For the duration of this
essay I will analyze the causations of the revolution, the events that unfolded, a correspondence of the
revolution to James DeFronzo and Allan Todd s ideas to revolutionary movements, and the current
status of Tunisia; I will also include an emphasis on Tunisian cultural, economy, and political
backgrounds that impact the approaches of the revolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain Essay
Marcel Duchamp s Fountain by Sarah Shea HUMN406 01 Professor Nelson
Marcel Duchamp s Fountain People often ask what constitutes good art. Who decides whether or
not a piece is art and whether it is good art or not? Marcel Duchamp challenged popular notions of his
day about what art actually is. Duchamp, a French artist living in New York at the turn of the century,
believed that it was up to the artist to determine what art is. Duchamp is most famous for a type of
sculpture he created called readymades 1. Readymades are ordinary functional household objects that
have either been joined to other objects, or chosen to stand alone as sculpture. Examples of his
readymades include a coat hanger nailed to the floor of his studio, a hat ... Show more content on

There was much ado over these happenings. Articles appeared in major newspapers regarding it, but
still no one knew who Richard Mutt was. An article also appeared in The Blind Man, an art journal
Duchamp himself published. The anonymous author of the article defended the Fountain as art and
went on to say The only works of art America has given are her plumbing and her bridges. 3 This was
the early 1900 s, so at this time the idea of modern art was still fairly new. People were starting to get
use to it, but were not comfortable enough to be introduced to something such as Fountain. A
bathroom fixture, especially a urinal, was considered too inappropriate, and was even said to be
immoral. In that same article in The Blind Man, the author defends Fountain on this matter by saying,
Now Mr. Mutt s fountain is not immoral, that is absurd, no more than a bath tub is immoral. It is a
fixture that you see every day in plumbers show windows. This is a very true statement; after all,
bathtubs are not considered immoral are they? However, it being a urinal, and because of its reference
to unpleasant bodily functions, it may seem inappropriate to have to study and examine it for any
period of time, like art is suppose to be studied. This is certainly valid reasoning. Perhaps, however,
because the urinal was flipped onto its back, and called Fountain rather than Urinal , it is divorced
from the whole bathroom scene,

Unknown 20
Abstract
The bases of this experiment was to discover the identify of the unknown from three possible
specimens: Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, and Enterobacter aerogenes. Utilizaing the T
streak technique, the bacteria was isolated into pure colonies for further study. The Gram Stain method
was used to identity the morhphology of the bacteria such as the shape and whether the bacteria was
Gram positive or Gram negative. Biochemical test were also used to help identify the unknown
bacteria. The biochemical test used was the Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Sulfur Indole Motility test, Methyl
Red test, Voges Proskauer test, Citrate test, Urease test, and the Gelatin test. After observing the
morphology of the bacteria using the Gram Stain method and utilizing all the possible biochemical
test, the bacteria was identified to be Enterobacter aerogenes.
Introduction
Gram negative and gram positive bacteria differ from each other in many ways especially in the
composition and size of their cell walls. Unlike Gram positive bacteria, Gram negative bacteria have a
thin peptidoglycan layer surround by an outer membrane. This outer membrane contains many
proteins one of them being lipopolysaccharides (LPS), which contributes to the bacteria s negative
charge. One part of this protein is a lipid, called Lipid A, which is considered an endotoxin because
this lipid triggers an immune response stimulating fever

Financial Risks
The successful management of financial institutions (FIs) demands an understanding of the relevant
structures, operations, and the associated risks. In particular, the assessment of the risks is necessary to
make the appropriate steps to maintain the solvency of FIs (Saunders Cornett, 2007). One of the steps
involves the application of off balance sheet (OBS) activities. OBS refers to the properties of the FI
which are considered assets, but which do not feature in the balance sheets and thus are not used in
balancing the ledger (at most, they may appear at the bottom of the balance sheet). OBSs are
extremely useful since they often assist in leveraging the commercial banks in times of crisis,
especially when the financial markets are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The operations also include future contracts, structured in such a way so as to execute organized
exchanges that involve payment for assets at a later date (Saunder Cornett, 2016). Finally, the OBS
items include commitments, guarantees, and other derivative financial instruments that sometimes
serve as significant sources of revenue for the commercial banks (Papanikolaou Wolff, 2014).
Furthermore, an off balance sheet item can move onto the balance sheet after the agreed conditions are
met. For instance, when the accepted obligations are met by the parties involved in the transaction, the
OBS assets transform into the balance sheet assets, hence moved accordingly (Bučková, 2012). The
future contracts are therefore terminated, valid from the moment when the pre requisite conditions are
met. In most cases, the OBS items are joined to the credit risks. More importantly, the derivative
instruments are introduced into the balance sheet in their real values, but reflected in the OBS in their
nominal values (Bučková, 2012).
Finally, it is vital to assess the risk of the particular OBS item before implementing it. Nevertheless, an
accurate evaluation of any OBS activity and its risk implications is an extremely difficult process
since every separate OBS item possesses complex contingent claim

Voting Behavior Essay
Less than 50% of eligible voters will turn out to vote at national elections, and at the local elections
there are less than 25%. There is a correlation between voting behavior and the demographic of those
voting.
Typically, people ages 30 to 65 have been the most likely to vote in the past years. This is in great
cause due to this age group being the most politically active. People in this group are more likely to
have established homes, steady jobs, and part of the community. They have stronger incentives to be
involved in what can affect their lives.
Younger people ages 18 24 have been less likely to vote in the past due to lack of interest, money, or

Women have exceeded the turnout rate of men in presidential elections since 1986. They believe that
this is due to the prominence of issues important to women, such as abortion, education, and child

When it comes to race we have come a long way for voting rights. Since the voting barriers have been
eliminated the African American citizens vote at least as often as white citizens with the same
economic status. African Americans are more involved in politics than other minorities in the US and
have the highest level of voter registration and participation. The Latinos only average about 49% of
eligible voters to vote. One of the big problems for them is the language barrier, but with the Latino
population increasing there is a rise of Spanish campaigning being done alongside the English.
Religion is a big motivator for whether or not people are voting. When there are big issues on trial that
go against your beliefs there is a greater desire for you to voice your opinions and be heard. Voters that
identify with Christian rights have a higher turnout rate and vote more frequently since there is almost
always a religious issue up for

Most Efficient Method Of Quantifying Radioactive Strontium
Summary This report, Most Efficient Method of Quantifying Radioactive Strontium , determines what
the most efficient method is for quantifying radioactive strontium when analyzing samples for
radioisotopes of strontium, specifically Sr 89 and Sr 90. The analysis was performed from information
collected by studying journal articles, recalling personal experiences at work, and reading textbooks
about the different types of particle detectors. Information collected from the referenced sources and
personal experience show that the Cherenkov counting method is the most efficient method for Sr 89
determination and the proportional counting method is the most efficient method for Sr 90
determination. The report finds that proportional counting is the best method for Sr 90 determination,
Cherenkov counting is the best method for Sr 89 determination and a method that incorporates
different detectors is the most efficient method. It is recommended for an analytical laboratory to
always first use Cherenkov counting or proportional counting for strontium analysis. It is also
recommended to create technical work instructions for a multi detector method that is updated every 6
months with improvements on the method. 1.0 Introduction The analytical chemistry laboratory at

Nature Of Just War
The concept of just war is built on the assumption that war is bad and should be avoided, but there
also may be times when warfare is justified. Just war theories usually address two main areas: First,
under what conditions is it right to go to war? Second, is there a moral way to conduct a war? As for
the history of just war theories, the ancient Greeks and Romans sometimes discussed the morality of
war. Cicero (106 43 B.C.), for instance, argued that the only acceptable reason for war is self defence
which included the right to defend one s honor. Cicero aside, Saint Augustine of Hippo (A.D. 354 430)
is often viewed as the father of the just war theory. Augustine was against individuals retaliating when
injured, but he believed nations

Compare And Contrast The Poem Design And Once By The Pacific
Robert Frost, one of America s leading twentieth century poets, is best known for his use of rural life
and nature in his poems. Following this standard are two of Frost s works, Design and Once by the
Pacific. In both of these poems, the image of nature and the use of enjambment in both poems will be
seen as well as the difference in between the poems rhythm and structure. Both the poems Design and
Once by the Pacific have some image of nature in them as a way to make the reader reflect upon the
matter being addressed. In Design , nature takes the form of a spider feeding off a moth, a dimpled
spider.../holding up a moth (lines 1 2). There is also a significant amount of description on the white
heal all. Even though nature s medium changes in Once by the Pacific , the intention remains the
same. Here, Frost utilizes water, waves, clouds, and the sky, amongst several others of nature s
features. This can be seen in the following verses, The shattered water made a misty din./Great waves
looked over others coming in (lines 1 2). In both poems, the time of day is mentioned frequently. For

In Once by the Pacific , the rhythm is in Iambic Pentameter. This provides the poem with a consistent
rhythm throughout. This characterizes the elements presented in the poem, such as the waves, due to
the appliance of a beat to their actions. On the other hand, Design does not have a consistent rhythm
throughout the poem as a way to characterize the spider s motions. This is because even though the
motions are continuous, they are not constant. The spider s motions can be seen as a dependent
variable which changes according to the moth s reactions. Therefore, there are parts in the poem where
some verses can be recognized as being part of an Iambic Pentameter system, but overall, the poem is
not designed to follow that rhythmic

It is evident from the above passage that Caliban was the sole owner of the island after the death of his

The type of data itself is nominal not numerical. The income of both males and females is not as
accurate as we would like, because it has been collected within large income ranges, for example $0 to
$25,000. Therefore to use the data, midpoints must be found, doing this has caused the data to become
very general and does not show specifics on income levels per person. The incomes are shown on the
graph as midpoints which have a large range within them. This further shows that the information is
too general for many business applications and decision making. The graph has narrowed down the
five income midpoints of interest to three. These three income midpoints were $12,500 $37,500

The Causes Of The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War began in 1955 and ended in 1975, making it the second longest and, arguably, the
most controversial war the United States has engaged in to date. The war was a result of ongoing
tension between France and Vietnam. Their history dates back to the late 1800s, when the French
invaded the country and established French Indochina. Once the Vietnamese, more specifically the
Viet Minh, drove out the French in the First Indochina War, the nation was split into North and South
Vietnam. In hopes of preventing the spread of communism from the North, America joined the
conflict as an ally to the South. In the end, there would be 60,000 American and 2 million Vietnamese
casualties. By 1975, a diplomatic solution was agreed upon, US troops were sent back home, and
Vietnam became united as one nation again (McNeil and Mintz). 2. Rather than being referred to as a
war, Vietnam is often called a conflict due to the specific set of terms surrounding the situation. A war,
in most cases, is described as a case in which at least two nations or states are involved in an open and
armed hostility exemplified by active military operations, severe aggression and usually high mortality
(Rohn, Was Vietnam a War or Conflict? ). Under these conditions, Vietnam should be labelled as a
war; despite that, there was no declaration of war officially made by the US Congress, which
technically classifies it as a conflict. 3. The American public s general feeling about the Vietnam

Compare Contrast Mary Rowlandson and Olaudah Equiano Essay
There are various things that make up a piece of literature. For example: choice of diction, modes of
discourse, and figurative language. Mary Rowlandson and Olaudah Equiano were great examples of
authors that used these elements of literature. There are similarities and differences in A Narrative of
the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson and From Africa to America. Though Mary
Rowlandson and Olaudah Equiano shared similarities in experiences, they had different writing
personalities, purposes, attitudes, tones, and relations with their communities. There are four main
modes of discourse: expository, narrative, descriptive, and persuasive. In Mary Rowlandson s A

Both narratives are similar in the experiences the two authors possessed. Both Mary Rowlandson and
Olaudah Equiano were held captive at a time in their lives. White men captured Olaudah Equiano,
while Mary Rowlandson had Indian captivators. Olaudah s story tells of the time where he first saw
the slave ship he was put on and the journey across great waters to the new world. Rowlandson s story
tells of the apathy of the Indians and her stay with the tribe. It is apparent that the journey across the
sea was horrible enough for the ship s passengers to commit suicide by jumping off of the ship rather
than staying on board with the putrid smell of human wastes and lack of ventilation. In a brief
paragraph, Equiano wrote of his daily routine before his captivity. He mentioned the relationship he
had with his mother, and how he was her favorite child. I became, of course, the greatest favorite with
my mother and was always with her. (72) Olaudah and Mary were alike because Olaudah had a great
relationship with his mother while Mary was fond of her own child in her narrative. About two hours
in the night, my sweet babe like a lamb departed this life; I must and could lie down next to my dead
babe, side by side all the night after. (2) Neither Olaudah Equiano nor Mary Rowlandson ended their
stories with the family members they were most fond of. Equiano s captivity was the reason why he
was stripped from his mother while Rowlandson s baby died during her

Bombing Hiroshima Bombing Effects
On the 6th of August 1945 at 8:15:15 am, an American B 29 heavy bomber nicknamed the Enola Gay
flies over the city of Hiroshima. At 8:16:02 am, Enola Gay drops the world s first deployed atomic
bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion instantly killed 80,000 people and many
more after the radiation exposure. Few hours before, in the Tinian Island, Colonel Paul Tibbets gave
the final update to the crew before the destruction of Hiroshima. Tibbets was the pilot of the Enola
Gay and joining him was Robert Lewis, the co pilot of the weapon plane with few more other crew
members. At 2:45 am, the Enola Gay carrying the world s first atomic bomb, nicknamed the Little
Boy takes off to the night sky. As the crew get closer to Hiroshima, the plane climbs to the altitude of

Five square miles of the city was cremated that surrounded the Aioi Bridge. Hiroshima was home to
280,000 290,000 people and the blast killed 80,000 people instantly or seriously wounded them. The
radiation exposure also killed thousands of people later. It has been estimated that 237,000 people
were killed from the bomb s effects which were burns, radiation sickness and cancer. Buildings were
wiped out and out of 90,000 buildings, 62,000 were destroyed. The ground temperatures reached
4,000℃ and radioactive rain poured down. Around 90% of doctors and nurses were killed or injured
and 42 of the 45 hospitals were non functional which meant people died without any care to ease their
sufferings. The ones who survived developed cancers such as thyroid, breast and lung cancers. Women
that were pregnant while they were exposed to radiation had higher rates of miscarriage and deaths to
their infants and children who were in the womb would most likely to have intellectual disabilities,

Shale Rocks
Shale is the most common sedimentary rock. It was deposited and formed by squeezing excess
formation water and mineralogical transformations at different temperatures and pressures. Caprocks
are essentially defined as low permeability formations, and sometimes, but not necessarily, with low
porosity. More than 60% of effective seals for geologic hydrocarbon bearing formations as natural
hydraulic barriers constitute of shale rocks. Shale rocks are predominantly composed of clay such as
kaolinite, montmorillonite and illite. They might also have other silica and carbonate based minerals
that contribute to their geomechanical strength. In 1965, D. Shaw and C. Weaver documented the
average mineralogical composition of shale from three hundred ... Show more content on

Caprock integrity failure can cause leakage and containment incidents. Currently, there are more than
400 underground storage sites in the United States, including natural gas storage, oil and gas waste
disposal, industrial hazardous and non hazardous waste disposal, and municipal sanitation waste
disposal. So far, there are no documented cases of fully remediating a leak in a caprock in either a
natural gas storage or waste injection project. This makes preventing the leakage becomes essential,
because most of the time, leaks could have been avoided through proper and thorough geologic
characterization of the caprock [Bruno, et al, 2014]. The integrity of shale caprock relies on the
geomechanical properties of the rock, and it has effects on the quality and quantity of the
gas/hydrocarbons beneath and within it. Potential loss of caprock integrity is commonly due to tensile
fracturing, fault activation, and wellbore failure in the caprock. Understanding the microstructure and
mechanical properties of the shale caprocks helps to maintain its integrity, predict the potential risk
and prevent the failures from

Figurative Language In War Of The Worlds
The figurative language used in War of the Worlds was intended to help the reader interpret what was
happening to the narrator. One of the examples of figurative language used by the narrator was when
he was looking out of his window the morning following the falling of the third star and the storm.
Looking outside, he could see that many houses near Maybury Hill had been burned the night before.
To better explain the spectacle, the narrator called those houses glowing ruins. (143). A metaphor is
typically used when something is so undescribable, it can only be best stated by being compared to
something completely different. When I think of houses that had previously been burned, I picture a
dark black house with steam rising from it. However,

  • 2. Who Is Paid In A Game Of Thrones In George R.R. Martin s novel A Game of Thrones, Catelyn tries to appease her husband Ned Stark as he laments about feeling inadequate as Lord of Winterfell, revealing how his older brother Brandon was originally supposed to rule as Lord until he passed away. In this scene, the cup represents the responsibility of ruling over Winterfell, which is currently in Ned s hands (Martin 60). By reminding Ned that the cup has passed , Catelyn chides Ned in his wallowing in the past and pushes him to accept his brother s death and carry on the cup he has inherited. By stating that Ned must drink from [the cup], like it or not Catelyn reminds Ned about his need to accept the responsibilities ruling over Winterfell presents him with and move ... • 3. How Does Edmund Kemper Contribute To The Witch Archetype I link Edmund Kemper to the to the witch archetype because the the film Carrie, Ed had a very controlling yet protective mother. A trait of the witch is a figure of resentment and ridicule which I connect to both Carrie s mother and Ed s. In the movie her mother resented Carrie because she sees her as a punishment from one of her greatest sins. With Edmund, he witnessed all the pain that she experienced within her life from a failed marriage with his father and felt as if he was a constant reminder of that. Bettelheim used examples like The Little Engine that Could , The Swiss Family Robinson and Rapunzel to show how realistic stories and fairy tales both affected children s thinking. The author claims that modern stories don t compare to fairy tales, because they can t provide an outlet for children to work through their problems and emotions. Throughout the essay, we see the use of comparison between modern stories and fairy tales, mostly through the way it could affect children s thinking. Modern stories though they have good messages, don t give children the necessary tools to take away, that a fairy tale can achieve. We see this in examples such as The Little Engine That Could when she tried to apply the lesson directly to her life, she ended up with the feeling of inadequacy. With The Swiss Family Robinson the girl had a difficult life and this story gave her an escape fantasy but this isn t a typical story that most children can identify with. With the fairy tale Rapunzel it made her feel like if she grew her hair out and imagine herself as Rapunzel, that a prince would rescue her. Even claiming, that without the story, it would have lead to worse circumstances in her life. What Bettelheim proves is that fairy tales give children the opportunity to have an outlet for their problems, but it also teaches them about what good and bad in the world. The fairytale simplifies all situations and makes them relatable to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whereas Frankenstein built his monster from human remains, dabbling among the unhallowed damps of the grave and collecting bones from charnel houses (Shelley, p. 62), Rotwang s creation is made entirely of cold metal, it is a being of bronze and bolts. Still, and utilizing the Internet and social media, the revolutionaries reached out to global communities to depict the horror, in hope for help. Consequently and with success, Tunisians gained the sympathy they were seeking, while also inspiring the Arab Spring to ignite, a mass of revolutions across Arab nations. For the duration of this essay I will analyze the causations of the revolution, the events that unfolded, a correspondence of the revolution to James DeFronzo and Allan Todd s ideas to revolutionary movements, and the current status of Tunisia; I will also include an emphasis on Tunisian cultural, economy, and political backgrounds that impact the approaches of the revolution. ... • 27. Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain Essay Marcel Duchamp s Fountain by Sarah Shea HUMN406 01 Professor Nelson Marcel Duchamp s Fountain People often ask what constitutes good art. Who decides whether or not a piece is art and whether it is good art or not? Marcel Duchamp challenged popular notions of his day about what art actually is. Duchamp, a French artist living in New York at the turn of the century, believed that it was up to the artist to determine what art is. Duchamp is most famous for a type of sculpture he created called readymades 1. Readymades are ordinary functional household objects that have either been joined to other objects, or chosen to stand alone as sculpture. Examples of his readymades include a coat hanger nailed to the floor of his studio, a hat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was much ado over these happenings. Articles appeared in major newspapers regarding it, but still no one knew who Richard Mutt was. An article also appeared in The Blind Man, an art journal Duchamp himself published. The anonymous author of the article defended the Fountain as art and went on to say The only works of art America has given are her plumbing and her bridges. 3 This was the early 1900 s, so at this time the idea of modern art was still fairly new. People were starting to get use to it, but were not comfortable enough to be introduced to something such as Fountain. A bathroom fixture, especially a urinal, was considered too inappropriate, and was even said to be immoral. In that same article in The Blind Man, the author defends Fountain on this matter by saying, Now Mr. Mutt s fountain is not immoral, that is absurd, no more than a bath tub is immoral. It is a fixture that you see every day in plumbers show windows. This is a very true statement; after all, bathtubs are not considered immoral are they? However, it being a urinal, and because of its reference to unpleasant bodily functions, it may seem inappropriate to have to study and examine it for any period of time, like art is suppose to be studied. This is certainly valid reasoning. Perhaps, however, because the urinal was flipped onto its back, and called Fountain rather than Urinal , it is divorced from the whole bathroom scene, 3 Marcel Duchamp himself most ... Utilizaing the T streak technique, the bacteria was isolated into pure colonies for further study. The Gram Stain method was used to identity the morhphology of the bacteria such as the shape and whether the bacteria was Gram positive or Gram negative. Biochemical test were also used to help identify the unknown bacteria. The biochemical test used was the Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Sulfur Indole Motility test, Methyl Red test, Voges Proskauer test, Citrate test, Urease test, and the Gelatin test. After observing the morphology of the bacteria using the Gram Stain method and utilizing all the possible biochemical test, the bacteria was identified to be Enterobacter aerogenes. Introduction Gram negative and gram positive bacteria differ from each other in many ways especially in the composition and size of their cell walls. Unlike Gram positive bacteria, Gram negative bacteria have a thin peptidoglycan layer surround by an outer membrane. This outer membrane contains many proteins one of them being lipopolysaccharides (LPS), which contributes to the bacteria s negative charge. One part of this protein is a lipid, called Lipid A, which is considered an endotoxin because this lipid triggers an immune response stimulating fever ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In particular, the assessment of the risks is necessary to make the appropriate steps to maintain the solvency of FIs (Saunders Cornett, 2007). One of the steps involves the application of off balance sheet (OBS) activities. OBS refers to the properties of the FI which are considered assets, but which do not feature in the balance sheets and thus are not used in balancing the ledger (at most, they may appear at the bottom of the balance sheet). Finally, the OBS items include commitments, guarantees, and other derivative financial instruments that sometimes serve as significant sources of revenue for the commercial banks (Papanikolaou Wolff, 2014). Furthermore, an off balance sheet item can move onto the balance sheet after the agreed conditions are met. For instance, when the accepted obligations are met by the parties involved in the transaction, the OBS assets transform into the balance sheet assets, hence moved accordingly (Bučková, 2012). The future contracts are therefore terminated, valid from the moment when the pre requisite conditions are met. In most cases, the OBS items are joined to the credit risks. More importantly, the derivative instruments are introduced into the balance sheet in their real values, but reflected in the OBS in their nominal values (Bučková, 2012). Finally, it is vital to assess the risk of the particular OBS item before implementing it. There is a correlation between voting behavior and the demographic of those voting. Typically, people ages 30 to 65 have been the most likely to vote in the past years. This is in great cause due to this age group being the most politically active. People in this group are more likely to have established homes, steady jobs, and part of the community. Most Efficient Method Of Quantifying Radioactive Strontium Summary This report, Most Efficient Method of Quantifying Radioactive Strontium , determines what the most efficient method is for quantifying radioactive strontium when analyzing samples for radioisotopes of strontium, specifically Sr 89 and Sr 90. The analysis was performed from information collected by studying journal articles, recalling personal experiences at work, and reading textbooks about the different types of particle detectors. Information collected from the referenced sources and personal experience show that the Cherenkov counting method is the most efficient method for Sr 89 determination and the proportional counting method is the most efficient method for Sr 90 determination. The report finds that proportional counting is the best method for Sr 90 determination, Cherenkov counting is the best method for Sr 89 determination and a method that incorporates different detectors is the most efficient method. It is recommended for an analytical laboratory to always first use Cherenkov counting or proportional counting for strontium analysis. Just war theories usually address two main areas: First, under what conditions is it right to go to war? Second, is there a moral way to conduct a war? As for the history of just war theories, the ancient Greeks and Romans sometimes discussed the morality of war. Cicero (106 43 B.C.), for instance, argued that the only acceptable reason for war is self defence which included the right to defend one s honor. Cicero aside, Saint Augustine of Hippo (A.D. 354 430) is often viewed as the father of the just war theory. Augustine was against individuals retaliating when injured, but he believed nations ... Following this standard are two of Frost s works, Design and Once by the Pacific. In both of these poems, the image of nature and the use of enjambment in both poems will be seen as well as the difference in between the poems rhythm and structure. Both the poems Design and Once by the Pacific have some image of nature in them as a way to make the reader reflect upon the matter being addressed. In Design , nature takes the form of a spider feeding off a moth, a dimpled spider.../holding up a moth (lines 1 2). There is also a significant amount of description on the white heal all. Even though nature s medium changes in Once by the Pacific , the intention remains the same. Here, Frost utilizes water, waves, clouds, and the sky, amongst several others of nature s features. This is because even though the motions are continuous, they are not constant. The spider s motions can be seen as a dependent variable which changes according to the moth s reactions. • 43. The Causes Of The Vietnam War The Vietnam War began in 1955 and ended in 1975, making it the second longest and, arguably, the most controversial war the United States has engaged in to date. The war was a result of ongoing tension between France and Vietnam. Their history dates back to the late 1800s, when the French invaded the country and established French Indochina. Once the Vietnamese, more specifically the Viet Minh, drove out the French in the First Indochina War, the nation was split into North and South Vietnam. In hopes of preventing the spread of communism from the North, America joined the conflict as an ally to the South. In the end, there would be 60,000 American and 2 million Vietnamese casualties. By 1975, a diplomatic solution was agreed upon, US troops were sent back home, and Vietnam became united as one nation again (McNeil and Mintz). 2. Rather than being referred to as a war, Vietnam is often called a conflict due to the specific set of terms surrounding the situation. A war, in most cases, is described as a case in which at least two nations or states are involved in an open and armed hostility exemplified by active military operations, severe aggression and usually high mortality (Rohn, Was Vietnam a War or Conflict? ). Under these conditions, Vietnam should be labelled as a war; despite that, there was no declaration of war officially made by the US Congress, which technically classifies it as a conflict. 3. Tibbets was the pilot of the Enola Gay and joining him was Robert Lewis, the co pilot of the weapon plane with few more other crew members. At 2:45 am, the Enola Gay carrying the world s first atomic bomb, nicknamed the Little Boy takes off to the night sky. As the crew get closer to Hiroshima, the plane climbs to the altitude of 31,000 ft. and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Five square miles of the city was cremated that surrounded the Aioi Bridge. Hiroshima was home to 280,000 290,000 people and the blast killed 80,000 people instantly or seriously wounded them. The radiation exposure also killed thousands of people later. It has been estimated that 237,000 people were killed from the bomb s effects which were burns, radiation sickness and cancer. Buildings were wiped out and out of 90,000 buildings, 62,000 were destroyed. The ground temperatures reached 4,000℃ and radioactive rain poured down. Around 90% of doctors and nurses were killed or injured and 42 of the 45 hospitals were non functional which meant people died without any care to ease their sufferings. The ones who survived developed cancers such as thyroid, breast and lung cancers. Women that were pregnant while they were exposed to radiation had higher rates of miscarriage and deaths to their infants and children who were in the womb would most likely to have intellectual disabilities, impaired growth and risk of developing ... • 46. Shale Rocks Shale is the most common sedimentary rock. It was deposited and formed by squeezing excess formation water and mineralogical transformations at different temperatures and pressures. Caprocks are essentially defined as low permeability formations, and sometimes, but not necessarily, with low porosity. More than 60% of effective seals for geologic hydrocarbon bearing formations as natural hydraulic barriers constitute of shale rocks. Shale rocks are predominantly composed of clay such as kaolinite, montmorillonite and illite. They might also have other silica and carbonate based minerals that contribute to their geomechanical strength. In 1965, D. Shaw and C. Weaver documented the average mineralogical composition of shale from three hundred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Caprock integrity failure can cause leakage and containment incidents. Currently, there are more than 400 underground storage sites in the United States, including natural gas storage, oil and gas waste disposal, industrial hazardous and non hazardous waste disposal, and municipal sanitation waste disposal. So far, there are no documented cases of fully remediating a leak in a caprock in either a natural gas storage or waste injection project. This makes preventing the leakage becomes essential, because most of the time, leaks could have been avoided through proper and thorough geologic characterization of the caprock [Bruno, et al, 2014]. The integrity of shale caprock relies on the geomechanical properties of the rock, and it has effects on the quality and quantity of the gas/hydrocarbons beneath and within it. Potential loss of caprock integrity is commonly due to tensile fracturing, fault activation, and wellbore failure in the caprock. Understanding the microstructure and mechanical properties of the shale caprocks helps to maintain its integrity, predict the potential risk and prevent the failures from ... • 47. Figurative Language In War Of The Worlds The figurative language used in War of the Worlds was intended to help the reader interpret what was happening to the narrator. One of the examples of figurative language used by the narrator was when he was looking out of his window the morning following the falling of the third star and the storm. Looking outside, he could see that many houses near Maybury Hill had been burned the night before. To better explain the spectacle, the narrator called those houses glowing ruins. (143). A metaphor is typically used when something is so undescribable, it can only be best stated by being compared to something completely different. When I think of houses that had previously been burned, I picture a dark black house with steam rising from it. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
