Speech On Wine Headaches
We ve all been there earlier than we re at the quiet of a long nighttime, having consumed lots of
wine, and an intense headache starts off evolved to form. For maximum folks, the cause of a wine
headache is sincerely drinking an excessive amount of wine and now not enough water. The easy
solution right here is to continually be conscious of how plenty alcohol you consume and
continually stay hydrated.
But for a small phase of our population, headaches from wine can occur even if we don t drink
plenty.
So what reasons those forms of headaches and how can we keep away from them?

Custer s Revenge at the Battle of Little Bighorn Essay
Custer s Revenge
The Battle of Little Bighorn is one of the most significant battles in American history. This is not
because of the weaponry used, the casualties, or even the battle strategies. This is because the battle
is one of the only big battles that Native Americans won against the U.S. military. After this battle,
the Native American power in the West ended. Ironically, by winning the Battle of Little Bighorn,
the Sioux and Cheyenne actually sped up the downfall of Native American power. In 1876, after a
treaty dispute, President Ulysses S. Grant issued an ultimatum stating that all Native Americans had
to be on the Great Sioux Reservation by January 31st. When this ultimatum was not met, the United
States declared war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he was discovered by one of the Sioux, he ordered his regiment to attack. Custer was
overwhelmed by the number of Native Americans and he and his whole regiment died on what is
now known as Custer Hill. The other force barely escaped and suffered casualties as well. In the
end, the Battle of Little Bighorn was a disaster for the United States.
When the American public heard of the slaughter of Custer and his troops, their main reaction
was disbelief and outrage. Custer had been a celebrity to them. He had been the great boy
general during the Civil War who liked to play tricks on his fellow generals. One time when he
was fighting against a friend from military school, he captured his friend s supply train and
showed up the next day wearing the friend s confederate uniform. Custer even sent a note to him
about the uniform being too big. Custer was so popular during the war that he was singled out
to accept General Robert E. Lee s white flag of surrender. After the Civil War he had less
success, but he still won a few major battles against the Native Americans and never strayed too
far from the public s eye. To America he was a great boy hero and when he died it was a huge
blow to the morale of the country. They could not believe that such a great commander could be
killed by a bunch of savages and all anyone could think of was revenge. For the Americans the best
way of accomplishing this was extermination of the Native Americans. Immediately after

Bob Dylan Similes
Among the American folk music, the name Bob Dylan is murmured with hushed respect ( Getting
To Dylan 1986 documentary ). Bob Dylan, originally named Robert Allen Zimmerman was born
on May 24, 1941. At the age of eighteen, Bob Dylan attended the University of Minnesota, where
he sought interest in music. Influenced by the blues, country, and rock and roll, he began playing
music as a teenager... ( Bob Dylan). Single mindedly, Bob Dylan coached himself to learn how to
play multiple instruments such as the guitar, harmonica, and piano, which helped lead to a plentiful
amount of awards and achievements. Chronologically, Bob Dylan was announced in the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, was granted a Grammy for lifetime achievements in 1991 and... Show

The usage of similes and alliteration in the lyrics Like a Rolling Stone, helps reflect the poetry in his
work. The first and most vivid poetic device used throughout one of Bob Dylan s top ten hits
Like a Rolling Stone are similes. The best example of a simile in his lyrics appears in line
sixteen through eighteen. With no direction home / A complete unknown / Just like a rolling
stone? (Dylan 16 18). With Bob Dylan stating this negative comparison of a hopeless woman to
a stone rolling down a hill, going out of control, supports his listeners with the thought of a
lonely woman with no direction home. So this phrase, a rolling stone, that meant a lack of
material possessions, a lack of home, a lack of belonging for those who first sang it, became a
symbol of liberation for the rock generation (Bowie). These material ties weakened our vision
and the ability to be able to see around us. Singing this phrase and ending it with a question
allowed Bob Dylan to create the sense of freedom and the achievement of clearing his listeners
visions to help them see through the illusions around them. The other poetic device that
contributed to the admirable background of the lyrics in Like a Rolling Stone is the usage of
alliteration. The first example of the occurrence with the same sound and letters is in lines one
to three, Once upon a time you dressed so fine / You threw the bums a dime in your prime,
/ Didn t you? (Dylan 1 3). With the repetition of ime and ine it presents us with a childlike feel
towards the song. In addition to the childish feeling, it seems as if the woman approaches life in a
much more simplistic way. The short line length, the fairy tale opening, the simple words and
images, the straightforward aaaa repeating rhyme all these elements work together to create the
feeling of a children s song, of a child s world (Bowie). The woman described in Bob Dylan s lyrics
assumes that

The Core Beliefs Of The Abrahamic And Messianic Faith Of...
Core beliefs are the key foundations to all dynamic religious traditions of the world. In particular,
core beliefs underpin the Abrahamic and Messianic faith of Judaism, as they offer Jewish
adherents a unique interpretation of reality. Thus, these core beliefs must be viewed through a
sympathetic cultural and historical lens. Leunig once said: Does G d exist? More to the point:
what does it matter if G d exists or not? After all everything else seems to exist, so what s the
problem? raising issues concerning G d s existence and its importance to humankind. A Jewish
adherent would respond to this stimulus in light of the particular culture lens of their variant. This
is established through the varying aspects of Jewish beliefs: the nature of G d, how one gains
meaning and the view of human condition, how one ought to live through Jewish morality, along
with beliefs concerning suffering, death and the after life.
Firstly and fore mostly, Jewish adherents hold certain beliefs that address the nature of G d and this
would have an influence on how one might respond to the stimulus. In the twelfth century, Jewish
scholar Moses Maimonides summarised all 613 mitzvot, the positive and negative commandments
outlined in the Torah (Morrissey, 2010, p.125). Referred to as the Thirteen Articles of Faith, this
written composition highlights the basics of the Jewish belief system. This is demonstrated as
articles 1 4 emphasise G d to be of the following attributes: Creator, one,

the work of independent game developers than on the three makers of game consoles.
The Rivalry among Competing Sellers in the Gaming Industry:
Rivalry is seen as being intense due to the following factors:
Major players in the gaming industry: THQ, Acclaim Entertainment, EA Games, Microsoft, Sega,
and Activision
* Gaming industry has experienced fierce competition due to the presence of three (Sony,
Nintendo, Microsoft) different console manufacturers and several independent game developers.
* All three makers of gaming consoles also develop some of their own games, which are
exclusive to their own console. * Game developers are continually coming out with new games in
attempt to improve upon previous releases that were of a lesser technological quality * The
smaller game developers are having difficulty staying competitive due to a lack of capital, and
unpredictable cash flows. * Standardization is definitely present in the many games that are

What Is The Theme Of The Bird And The Arras
The Bird and the Arras, is a poem written by Anne Finch, Countess of
Winchilsea (1661 1720), she has always been a recognised author, but the recognition of her works
have been revived in the last years. Her poetry reflects her thoughts and personal experiences, but
also the social and political situation of the era (18 th century,
England). As in the case of the poem The Bird and the Arras , the author describes the situation of
the women of the time by the using of the symbol of the bird. During the poem, the room where
the bird is trapped, which has a high ceiling, has an arras, and the bird tries to follow the birds that

Till some kind hand directs the certain way we can find a synecdoche, kind hand could be God s
hand which will take her (the bird) to heaven, with this detail we can fathom that women were
trapped in society, as heaven seems to be the only way to freedom they can find. The use of
Heav n has a special meaning that confirms what mentioned before; the poet has chosen the use
of Heav n instead of sky to reinforce the idea that it is the only way to freedom. The room where
the bird is could be interpreted as a marriage, where the woman is nullified or it can represent a real
room.
Secondly, from the analysis made above, we can get to several interpretations of the poem. On a
literal way the poem is describing how a bird tries to escape from a room because it is lock in it,
which is a dramatic situation, as it is described in the poem.
The first interpretation, is that she will be free when she dies, as every time she tries to reach
freedom fails And leads to ample space, the only Heav n of Birds . The second is more pessimistic
as it concludes that she will never be free, as every

Signs You re Balding and What You Can Do About It
N Signs You re Balding What You Can Do About It So there are some signs that you re balding
but you re not entirely sure. The signs range from finding lots of hair around your living area,
noticing that your scalp is more visible than usual, your hair seems to be growing slower, or a
hairline that seems to be receding faster than your hair is growing. Don t panic, hair loss can be
resolved with a few treatments, read on to find out more. Lots of Hair Falling All of us tend to
lose 50 to 100 hairs a day out of the 100,000 we have on our head. So it is common to find hair
lying around your living area, therefore you need not panic about it. However, if you re facing
multiple signs of balding then this is a crucial sign that you should change a few routines to
ensure the hair fall is natural and not aggravated. Ensure that you re not combing or brushing
your hair too hard, the same goes to drying your hair too roughly with a towel after a shower.
Tugging or applying too much pressure to your hair aggravates hair loss. Changing these simple
lifestyle habits can change the rate of your hair falling out and reduce the chances of balding or
hair loss. Thinning Hair More Visible Scalp If you re starting to notice that you have a more
visible scalp, chances are that your hair is thinning and hair loss is occurring. There are a few
reasons to why this is happening that you can check and probably change. Thinning hair sometimes
occurs due to hormonal changes in your body. These

AP Biology Lab Report: How the Amount of Motor Oil Affects Hatching Viability of Brine Shrimp
Eggs
Question
How does the amount of motor oil in the environment of a brine shrimp affect the hatching viability
of brine shrimp eggs?
Hypothesis
If hatching viability is affected by the amount of motor oil in the environment of the brine shrimp
eggs, then when the amount of motor oil is increased the hatching viability will decrease.
Experimental Design
The independent variable was the amount of motor oil in 2% salt solution because it is the variable
that was being tested and purposefully manipulated. The dependent variable was the hatching
viability of the brine shrimp tested (which was calculated by adding the number of brine shrimp
swimming at 24 hours to the number of brine shrimp swimming at 48 hours, and then divided by
the total number of eggs initially placed in the petri dish). The control group was a petri dish of
brine shrimp in 30 ml of 2% salt solution with no motor oil. The constants, or variables that need
to be controlled, were the salinity percentage of the salt solution (2%), the amount of salt solution
in each petri dish (30 ml), the total time the brine shrimp were left in the petri dishes (48 hours),
and the frequency of when the brine shrimp were checked (every 24 hours).
Procedure

Approximately 100 brine shrimp eggs
Scissors
Pipet
Paintbrush

The 5th Amendment And The Fifth Amendment
A man in court randomly yells out the phrase I plead the fifth, and now he doesn t have to talk

amendment says this, No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous

or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor
shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor
shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life,
liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use,
without just compensation. Well first of all who introduce the famous 5th amendment. Well
according to the Kids Laws they said that, The Fifth Amendment was introduced into the
Constitution by James Madison. (kids.laws.com). So really James Madison was the one who

describe him as ... a small, wizened man, appeared old and worn (whitehouse.gov) he was indeed a

The Impact of Gambling in America
The Impact of Gambling in America The impact of gambling on the United States carries both
positive and negative effects into our society and communities. Gambling is a leisure activity that
usually provides excitement and fun for its players. Gambling also brings tremendous amounts of
money into the economy and provides employment. American cities such as Las Vegas and Atlantic
City thrive off of the gaming industry. Sure, gamblingcan be fun and exciting, but at what point
does that fun activity develop into a pathological problem? I will contend that the harmful side
effects of gambling far outweigh any positive aspects. Pathological gambling can destroy families,
careers, and lives. The reason why casinos are so successful... Show more content on

For example, in 1998 the bankruptcy rate in Atlantic City, New Jersey per 100,000 people was
1,019 while the rate of the state of New Jersey was only 555 (gao.gov). In 2003, there was a
proposal to add casinos into the mix of Kentucky s gambling options. Dr. John Kindt, a professor
of commerce at the University of Illinois said that bringing casinos to Kentucky would be bad
economics and bad social policy . Studies show that within the 35 mile feeder market around a
casino, gamblers will spend 10 percent less on food, 25 percent less on clothing and that 37
percent will dip into their savings to pay for gambling. For every three (video slot) machines, you
ll be losing two jobs from the feeder market economy, Kindt said. This occurs because each
machine can be expected to bring in $100,000 per year that will not be used elsewhere in the
economy (kybaptist.org). This is a serious issue that occurs when business owners do not think
about how their actions will affect others in the future.
Not only does gambling affect the economy of our communities, but it also has social effects.
There are many negative consequences of gambling, while there are minimal positive outcomes.
Beginning with the positive side, gambling is a recreation, a break from the everyday pressures
of life and a relief from stress. People feel good about themselves when they do hit a jackpot or
win big . Without gambling, certain sports such as horse racing and boxing would not be nearly as

God s Grandeur By Gerald Manley Hopkins
At the beginning of the 19th Psalm, David writes, The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies
proclaim the work of his hands. Gerald Manley Hopkins seems to echo this theme in his poem,
God s Grandeur. The interesting aspects of this poem are a result of Hopkins different perspectives
on nature. In the beginning of the poem, Hopkins directs his focus on the glory of God through the
lens of the world. There is then a turning point where he diverts his attention to the problems
mankind inflicts upon creation. However, the closing of the poem involves him stepping back and
reflecting upon the eternality of God. God s Grandeur is interwoven with powerful imagery that is
evoked by elaborate double entendres that reflect the interaction between humans, nature, and the
eternal grandeur of God that surpasses Earth, which though temporary, is under constant care from
God despite our actions.
The first stanza provides an interesting dynamic between creation and man. Hopkins writes, The
world is charged with grandeur of God. / It will flame out, shining from shook foil... (1 2). The first
two lines provide an interesting double entendre. When Hopkins writes, The world is charged with
the grandeur of God (1), is evokes the imagery of electricity. Thus, the shook foil mentioned in the
second line characterizes the world of having bursts of energy and light similar to when light is
shone upon metallic surfaces like foil. The other interpretation comes from

Every report should be using at least the class text as one source for which they have a reference
and one or more in text citations. The need for referencing is limited in most cases to the class
text, but certain types of activities can very well lead to needing to cite more sources. . An
excellent report would make connections to things in the class text, and so would use in text citing
to specific things in the class text and a reference to it at the end. Also, you can cite some
background information that you find at other sources in print or online. Whatever sources you do
use should be cited in the APA stylewith both in text citations and a References) list at the end.
But, keep in mind, most of your report is on what you see and hear doing this. There are events that
might be exceptions, but this is the general approach here.

It makes sense to approach a museum the way a seasoned traveler approaches visiting a city for the

If there is a travelling exhibition, it s always a good idea to see it while you have the chance. Then, if

Learning the Process of Writing in a First-Year...
I entered my first year college composition course believing I was equipped with the knowledge,
skill, and ability to write an efficiently researched and well organized essay. In high school, I
learned how to create the traditional five paragraph paper with its introduction of a thesis,
explanation of that claim through three sections riddled with supporting quotes, and conclusion that
restated the author s substantiated statement. This was the prescribed formula I had learned and
grown accustomed to using for book reports, compare and contrast papers, and research essays
and, from my bestowment of high grades and praise, I d never thought to question or deviate from
its pattern. When I attended my first college writingclass, I thought... Show more content on

For the second paper, an essay about a remembered event, Professor Cardinale assigned five
prewriting exercises to the class. These included a freewriting about multiple past events, a
recreation of the dialogue that occurred during one of these events, a freewriting on
memorabilia connected to the occasion, a reflection of the event s significance on the student s
life, and finally a culmination of all the prewriting to create an outline for the essay. These
multiple prewriting exercises helped me uncover, explore, and convey different emotions
through my writing. I didn t have to worry about perfecting these exercises because the professor
did not grade the grammar or context of the prewrites and instead provided suggestions and
helpful comments to enhance the essay. Murray explains this alternative to grading, he says, We
have to respect the student, not for his product, not for the paper we call literature by giving it a
grade, but for the search for truth in which he is engaged. We must listen carefully for those
words that may reveal a truth, that may reveal a voice (5). My writing seemed to become more
authentic and it was easier to flow from sentence to sentence because I already knew what I
wanted to say and why it was important for me to convey it to my readers. After finishing the
prewriting exercises, Professor Cardinale would have the class write a first draft of

The Importance Of The ANZAC Legend
World War One is regarded as a major turning point in history and modern warfare which has
impacted Australia monumentally, scarring the nation s history. Australia played a significant role
in World War One and the Gallipoli campaign, which is considered the birthplace of the ANZAC
legend. These events have immensely shaped Australiaas the nation we know of today. World War
One began in 1914 from the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and ended in 1918 on
November the 11th which is now recognised as a day of mourning and a time given recognition to
the lives taken on the battlefield. To a prominent extent, the ANZAC legend is significant to the
concept of Australian identity and nationalism through the origins of the ANZAC legend, the key
events that have helped form Australia as an independent nation, and in addition to how ANZAC
dayis commemorated today.
Many events have led up to the shaping of the ANZAC legend along with various individuals and
groups contributing to how these events took place. The ANZAC legend is also known as the
ANZAC myth, referring to the representation of Australians and New Zealanders that fought for
their countries (Australian War Memorial, n.d, online). A vast number of significant individuals
played a role in leading the ANZAC s to World War One and leaving lasting legacies behind them.
One of the men, named Battery Sergeant Major G Ellsworth served as an Australian solider and
upheld his duty as a proud ANZAC solider until his

Strategic Plan Differentiation Strategy This strategy involves developing a differentiated product or
service and marketing program such that the customers view it as being unique. Speedy Bike sales

segment of the market. According to Kotler (1986 ), customers prefer products ar services with low
prices. Speedy Bike Sales and Services intend to improve customer retention, to improve customer
satisfaction and to increase the number of referrals by providing a less expensive, alternative form
of transportation. The product here is differentiated from the competition providing value to the
customer by enhancing the need to mitigate the issues of childhood obesity (Aaker, 1991). This
strategy work best if There is more than one way to differentiate Speedy Bike Sales and Services
offering from that of competitors and most of the buyers view the differences as having value. The
customer s needs and uses are diverse There are few competitors adopting the same approach

Kurt Donald Cobain of Nirvana Essay
Kurt Donald Cobain was the leader of Nirvana, the multi platinum grunge band that redefined the
sound of the nineties.
Cobain was born on the 20th of February 1967 in Hoquaim, a small town 140 kilometres south
west of Seattle. His mother was a cocktail waitress and his father was an auto mechanic. Cobain
soon moved to nearby Aberdeen, a depressed and dying logging town.
Cobain was for most his childhood a sickly bronchitic child. Matters were made worse when
Cobain s parent s divorced when he was seven and by his own account Cobain said he never felt
loved or secure again. He became increasingly difficult, anti social and withdrawn after his parent s
divorce. Cobain also said that his parent s traumatic split fueled a lot of the ... Show more content on

Nevermind went on to sell ten million copies and make a reported $550 million (US) leaving
Nirvana overnight millionaires. Cobain was shocked at the reception of his highly personal and
passionate music repeatedly telling reporters that none of the band ever, ever expected anything
like this. It quickly became obvious that the obsessively sickly and sensitive 24yr old was not
going to cope well with the rock n roll lifestyle. quot;If there was a rock star 101 course, I d

he said he used it as a shield against the rigorous demands of touring and to stop the pain of
stomach ulcers or an irritated bowel. Through the touring and pressure Cobain continued to write
his very personal acutely focused lyrics.
Cobain was distressed to find out that what he wrote and how it was interpreted could quite
often be miles apart. He was appalled when he found out that Polly a heavily ironic anti rape
song had been used as background music in a real gang rape. He later appealed to fans on the
Incesticide liner notes quot;If any of you don t like gays or women or blacks, please leave us the

was something he had very little of. Cobain also worried that his band had sold out, that it was

Topic Topics On Social Psychology
Topics In Social Psychology
Respectfully Submitted by Kaitlin Emmerling
As social animals, human beings interact and influence one another in profound, meaningful ways.
The ways in which we affect each other s behaviors, beliefs and attitudes is defined as social
psychology; it s study can help elucidate how and why we act, think, communicate and behave the
way we do. Topics included under the umbrella of social psychology include: the importance of
human relationships and interactions; the impact of social influences, such as group pressures and
obedience; developmental and situational considerations of prosocial and antisocial behaviors; and
the relationship between our attitudes and beliefs and our behaviors (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy ...

Kennedy administration that lead to the failed invasion of the Bay of Pigs in 1961. He noticed that
in group situations, group members may either ignore their own expertice and adopt the opinion of
the majority of the group or simply stay quiet and not raise objections in order to not disrupt the
consensus (Cherry, n.d.).
When dissenting opinions and critical thinking are suppressed, it is not surprising that poor
decisions can arise when groups uniformity is put first. In order to prevent such consequences,
Janis suggested a few ways to avoid falling into the groupthink trap: 1. appoint a person to play
devil s advocate to introduce differing opinions in order to force the rest of the group to consider
other options and think critically about their own beliefs; 2. allow independent experts to attend
group sessions to evaluate the decision making process; and 3. Consider holding a follow up
meeting sometime in the future to allow time for group members to consider and reconsider
whether their initial decision was reasonable or not (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy Woolf, 2014, p. 507

Yet another social psychological subject that relates to both our behavior in group settings and
prosocial versus antisocial behavior is a

Feminism In The Novel Herland
There are many different ways one may view a utopian society. While looking back in a historical
context of feminism, we may see feminism through a political aspect in a utopian society. The
connection between feminism and utopianism could be drastic if viewing in a historical context
because of the want of a perfect world which would include the equality of women. When reviewing
the novel Herland written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author demonstrates her strong views on
feminismthroughout the novel in many different ways. Gilman addresses genderroles throughout her
novel to express her own views of feminism in the late first wave of the feminist movement. To
understand the novel Herland in a historical context one must understand the challenges women
have faced in the mid 1800 s including the aspects of motherhood, marriage and not having the
opportunity to work.
Motherhood has changed throughout the world especially in today s time. In the 20th century
women tend to juggle many different aspects besides motherhood such as a job, school and their
own responsibilities. In the novel Herland the men in the novel express motherhood differently
than the basic norms. The women in the novel are not only expressed as doing the normal duties
of a mother such as cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children. In fact the women in the
novel are shown doing jobs a man would do. In the novel Gilman created her own utopian society
where females were superior and the roles

Joel Feinberg Psychological Egoism Analysis
Psychological egoism is the interpretation that humans are always inspired by self interest, even in
what seem to be acts of altruism. It claims that, when people choose to help others, they do so
ultimately because of the personal benefits that they themselves expect to obtain, directly or
indirectly, from doing so. Psychological egoism, which was widely recognized by psychologists and
philosophers states that all human actions are motivated by selfish needs to benefit themselves.
According to psychological egoists true altruismdoes not exist because the consequence of such an
act leads to an increase in personal happiness. However, Joel Feinberg does not agree with that
theory and in his essay he disagreed with the thesis that altruism... Show more content on

He would have explained to me that even though some philosopher could argue that all of our
acts are considered as selfish since the main source of our action is us therefore it does make
sense that our only motif is to obtain pleasure for ourselves. As mentioned in the Internet
Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Psychological egoists cannot establish their view simply by
pointing to the pleasure or self benefit that accompanies so many actions. After all, often self
benefit only seems to be what we ultimately desire, though a closer look reveals benefits like
pleasure are likely just byproducts while the proximate desire is for that which generates them (
Psychological Egoism). Joel Feinberg would explain that the acts that are generated to help
others even though we can receive pleasure for acting such way could be and should be
considered as an altruistic act. Pleasure can be a byproduct of a good deed but what matters is what
generated the good deed and if it s for a good reason and to help others it should be considered as
an altruistic

however is not the biblical answer to things. The wizard is the God of Oz, and home represents

A New Concept
IAQ is not a new concept, consider our ancestors living in caves and the impact from smoke
pollutions or in ancient Egypt stonemasons working in the open air were healthier than those
working in workshop. Even Biblical scripts refer to the dangers of mould in the home. However,
there have been four fundamental developments that have occurred in the last forty five years
(Lee, et al., 1996): The increased time spent within indoor environments. The increased dependency
on artificial products (building materials and finishes, scents, furniture). The increased occupancy
density (open plan offices, reduction of working space). Advancements of energy conservation
techniques (air tight buildings, re circulated air, reduced ventilation). A growing body of scientific
evidence has indicated that the air within buildings can be more seriously polluted than the
outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities. The US s Toxic Substances Strategy

Essay on Ted Williams vs. Ty Cobb
Ted Williams vs. Ty Cobb
In the August 30, 1905 edition of Detroit s Free Press, the sportswriters ran a small blurb
announcing the arrival of a Detroit Tigers rookie, Ty Cobb. They stated, Cobb left the South
Atlantic League with a batting average of .328. He will not pile up anything like that in this
league, and he doesn t expect to (Allen 177). Their prediction ironically rung true. Cobb hit better
than their projected .328 batting average twenty times in his twenty four seasons (McCallum 217).
Tyrus Raymond Cobb s prolific career leads many fans and historians to believe that he deserves the
title of greatest hitter of all time. However, some critics would argue that Ted Williams warrants this
distinction. Unfortunately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Williams faced spitball less pitchers and benefited from frequent baseball changes during a game,
keeping the ball fresh and visibly white ( 1920 1945 ). Homerun totals increased because of these
essential changes in the game. Therefore, the supporters of Williams have little merit in the defense
that the Splendid Splinter hit more homeruns than Cobb. Cobb, annoyed by frequent questions
about the homerun power of Babe Ruth, stated that batters need no special skills to hit homeruns.
To back up his claim, Cobb went out and hit three homeruns that night and two more the next (Ty).
Though capable of hitting the long ball, Cobb preferred to choke up on the bat and slap singles,
bunts, doubles, and triples to all corners of the ballpark.
Since a comparison between homerun numbers has no merit because of the multiple variables
existing between the eras in which Cobb and Williams played, it should be thrown out as a criterion
for a great hitter. Therefore, the qualities that exemplify great hitting would be: batting average,
batting titles, hits, doubles, triples, Runs Batted In, and the opinions of other baseball players and
analysts.
Until Pete Rose collected his 4,191st hit on September11 1985, Ty Cobb held the record for most
career hits in baseball. As the only pre 1900 sports magazine, The Sporting News said, Cobb, the
dominant player of the dead ball era, was to bat control what Babe Ruth was later to

What Are The Ethics Of Computer Ethics
Computer Ethics
Computer ethics is the systematic study of the ethical and social impact of computers in the
information society. The ethical and social issues under discussion involve the acquisition,
distribution, storage, processing and dissemination of digital data in information systems and how
individuals and groups interact with these systems and data. The moral considerations of computer
ethics are related to the responsibility and accountability of the computer users and professionals
with regard to the design and implementation of information systems. Computer ethics also includes
the study of the policies, rules, and legislations that refer to a particular situation and the alternative
ethical decisions, as well as the social implications of these alternatives. Computers are a special
technology and they raise some special ethical issues. Computer ethics are the moral guidelines that
govern the use of computers and information system. These computer ethics are divided into two
parts namely the analysis of nature and social impact of computer technology and the corresponding
formulation and justification of policies for the ethical use of such technology. Computer

Communication Technology In The Gilded Age
Following years of reconstruction, the U.S. entered a new age. For this new age, Mark
Twain named it after the glittering surface of the time that was covering the vast corruption
underneath. The late 19th century would be called the Gilded Age (Mintz, S., McNeil, S. 2016).
From this Gilded Age, a powerful businessman made his mark in American history. John D.
Rockefeller ruled the American oil industry. Using his incredible knowledge of business, he rose
up through the age to become one of the most influential businessmen in history.
Amidst the 1880s and 1890s, the nation was changing. Technology, entertainment and the
population were all seeing intense transformations. Looking back, much to the technologies of the
late 19th century can be seen in the modern United States. This age included the development of

Design With The Mind In Mind Essay
As the user continues to navigate their way through the application they can explore the relax
section which leads to the screen displayed in figure 2. An important consideration made during
the design process of the application was framing. In chapter one of his book Designing with the
Mind in Mind , Johnson discussing the relevance of familiar perceptual patterns or frames. This
entails that the majority of our lives are spent in familiar situations or places like a variety of
schools or offices that all share similar characteristics and each of these create a pattern in our
mind about what we expect to see in each of these different types of locations. For example, if

She concluded that there is a preparation stage that the body goes through prior to deep rest.
During that preparation stage, the body uses external or environmental clues, light and colours,
to synchronize our circadian biological clock to the cycle of the sun s light (Smith 2013).
Moreover, according to Hauck, a study was conducted with the assistant of Travelodge hotels
and they concluded that participants that slept in blue rooms received the best sleep during their
stay. Similarly, a light blue is the colour users will be exposed to prior to rest. This is also
relevant in the other modes with relevant colours such as light green for meditation (Wright
2008/2017) and so on and so forth. Furthermore, we must take in to consideration the limitations
of the application s design. People s perception and the effectiveness of the design are affected
by the user s past experiences, the context and their goals (Johnson 2014). If the user was used to
sleeping in an orange room as a child than perhaps the colour orange would be more effective in
comforting them for sleep in contrast with the pale blue default colour. To counter this on the
relaxation screens the user has a control bar that allows them to adjust the hue of the background.
However, the user may not recognize this as an important factor in their sleep or they may not be
able to identify the best colour for their own personal sleep. In the future I believe

The Epistolary Form Of Writing
The epistle in its most basic form is simply a letter, with the epistolary form in the Eighteenth
Century being a published letter often from one writer to another. This mode of writing was
extremely popular in the Eighteenth Century, taking on different contexts for different purposes.
An epistle can be a complex genre of writing. The Epistle can be a collection of poems, a satirical
essay, a response to an author s works or a raging sparring of words. Although quite constraining in
format, an epistle addressed to someone, be it explicit or not can capture the minds of many.
The epistle is notably an ancient form of writing, originating in Egypt as early as 1292 BC.
However, the scholars of Ancient Greece and Rome made the formulae of... Show more content on

Horace s work does indeed showcase his view of literary culture of that time, highlighting the
change that is occurring and setting rules and boundaries of writing poetry.
From Ancient Greece to Eighteenth Century England the epistle s importance still remains. With
the Ancients vs Moderns argument being in full effect, this added leverage to the use of the epistle
in satire, reproducing the epistolary form as Greats before them had also used. The difference
between Modern thinkers were in stark contrast to the Neo Classical thinkers of the time. The Neo
Classical Aesthetic embodied a group of attitudes towards art and human existence. That of order,
logic, restraint, accuracy, decorum and correctness was favoured over the Renaissance thinkers that
believed imagination, invention, experimentation and mysticism was more important to feature in
Literature. The Augustan Age in which Pope, being a central poetic figure at that time had the most
famous and well recognised modern epistles written both by him and also aimed at him.
Criticism was increasingly popular in the 18th Century, with enjoyment coming from both the
original text and the opinions and responses to the text by others. Of course, Pope perceived some
criticism as incorrect and a personal attack on his own being rather than input on his actual body of
work. These attacks, however, motivate Alexander Popefurther, giving him more material

Growing Up Of A Predominantly Poor Community And A Third...
Afika James
Final paper
Sped 704
Growing up in a predominantly poor community in a third world country like St. Vincent and the
Grenadines, my parents expressed the importance of acquiring an education as the only way out of
poverty. My mom worked hard so that she had enough money saved for us all to migrate to the
United States of America. In that instance I am sure that my story is similar to that of many other
immigrants. The myth that poor people are unmotivated and have low work ethics is sometimes
still prevalent. Poor people do not have a poorer work ethic or lower levels of motivation. Low
income households are just as concerned about children s learning as any other household.
However, lack of resources and less time to focus on homework due to multiple jobs cause parents
to have less involvement in schoolwork. After moving to the United States, having an accent that
sometimes made me difficult to understand caused to seclude myself and not participate in
classrooms. Children laughed and pointed me out. I was not an English Language Learner but my
dialect made me aware of just a little part of the world of English Language Learners in the
classroom.
English language learners and ELLSEs may be similar but they are also quite different. Both are
considered to be emergent bilinguals. The students who are ELL s will most likely have trouble
with instruction in a new language, but if taught in their home language they will better be able to

Recycling And Alternative Energy Sources
We also can try not to create too much garbage by recycling and making sure we don t buy more
food than what we need and then end up throwing it out. Recycling helps to save space in
landfills and it can reduce pollution. Tropical rainforests can be saved by recycling aluminum
cans. One would not realize the impact that recycling in one country would affect another area
across the world. The tropical rainforests are mined for materials that are used to make aluminum.
Recycling is also believed to slow down global warming. Recycling plays a vital role in preserving
environmental resources and preserving an Earth for future generations. Alternative energysources

This will create wars and conflicts as people fight for the resources they need to feed themselves
and maintain their lives. People could eventually be fighting over farmland in order to feed
themselves or their families. If people do not have the soil they need to grow the food to feed
themselves they may look for alternatives, which will end up being unhealthy and could possible
shorten their life span. When there is a reduction in food security and water availability there is
also a growth in poverty and a reduction in the health of people. We are setting future
generations up to be poor, unhealthy, and involved in conflicts over the resources we take for
granted. We could also choose to help the future generations by starting to take care of the Earth
they will inherit from us. We could support a clean healthy by taking care of the soil and water
we use every day. We can support better farming practices and continue to support education and
let our law makers know that this is important to us. Our generation needs to leave the world a
better place than when we found it. Future generations have a right to a healthy Earth where they
are able to survive without fighting for water and soil. Some people think that they won t be alive
when this happens, so they don t have to worry about it. This is an ignorant way of thinking. We
owe to our future generations to give them the same opportunities we have had in our lifetime.

Analysis of Elizabeth Bishops the Moose
Elizabeth Bishop s The Moose is a narrative poem of 168 lines. Its twenty eight six line stanzas
are not rigidly structured. Lines vary in length from four to eight syllables, but those of five or six
syllables predominate. The pattern of stresses is lax enough almost to blur the distinction between
verse and prose; the rhythm is that of a low keyed speaking voice hovering over the descriptive
details. The eyewitness account is meticulous and restrained.
The poem concerns a bus traveling to Boston through the landscape and towns of New Brunswick.
While driving through the woods, the bus stops because a moose has wandered onto the road. The
appearance of the animal interrupts the peaceful hum of elderly passengers voices. ... Show more

Thus the first part, devoted to the landscape, is richly descriptive, replete with qualifying epithets
that, toward the end (in line 75 and in line 81), come in by threes, like beads on a string. In the
second part, dealing with the passengers plight, learned, latinate words such as divagation, auditory,
hallucination, eternity, and acceptance signal the presence of the narrator commentator. In the third
partВ—the one reserved for the mooseВ—epithets return. In the climactic twenty fourth stanza, the
most distinctly poetic devicesВ—explicit comparisonsВ—are bestowed on the protagonist: high as
a church,/ homely as a house. Moreover, the four additional epithets lavished on the moose
contribute to the grandeur of its appearance: towering, antlerless, and grand, otherworldly.
By careful calibration and timing of her tropes, Bishop succeeds superbly in achieving her ends.
Contrast is attained by her control over all compartments of language, and her austere, restrained
tone and strategy of deferral and understatement are dramatically effective.
Themes and Meanings The Moose is ultimately about the human need to be purged and, if
possible, cured of selfhood. Self absorption or narcissism is not only a passing malaise afflicting
teenagers. Older people regard themselves in the mirror of their

MBM is a scientific approach to management that integrates theory and practice, and provides a
framework for dealing with the ongoing challenges of growth and change (KOCH, 2007).
Five Dimensions
The theory of MBM is rooted in the Science of Human Action and is defined by five dimensions:
(figure 1) (GP, 2014).
Until now I have never heard of or read about Market Based Management. I m privileged to know
someone who worked at Georgia Pacific where the employees were required to take courses. They
used guiding principles for reviews and evaluations. By using these dimensions along with the
guiding principles we presume and organization will be successful both internal and external. This
has been proved successful for Koch Industries, however there are still arguments that it doesn t
apply to all business sectors. For example: Let s take the dimension Incentives. An employee
performing the day to day activities improves a process and the accomplishments of time saving
or elimination. Based on the MBM Incentive, this should be rewarded. This will be
acknowledged by direct reports but then taken up the chain command, only to find out that it s
not relevant at that level. How does this employee get rewarded based on the guidelines? Also, a
salary increase would be an incentive for the employee to perform good work. In the MBM
culture, salary is based on the market for the area the employee works in. A

Mentos Vs Diet Soda Experiment
For anyone that has ever tried combining mint Mentos and Diet Coke, they would probably
think the reaction of the two is pretty neat. Though they might not be sure of how the two
actually create a reaction. It all started in 1999, when Lee Marek and Marek s Kid Scientists first
displayed this experiment on the Late Show with David Letterman ( Watch Videos ). After this
show aired, people all around the globe wondered how two things as simple as a diet soda and a
few pieces of candy could produce such an outcome. This struck the curiosity of others, and with
this, research and explanations as to why this happens have been discovered over time. This
experiment is an experiment because of the reactants, and it is has to do with a process called...

In order to slow down the reaction, manipulating the Mentos used is also what would work (
Why Do Mentos, 2014). Instead of using Mentos with a rough, bumpy coating, try using Mentos
with a smoother texture. Having a smoother outer cover, the attraction the carbon dioxide gas
has to the Mentos will only lessen. This would decrease the amount of bubbles being produced
by the carbon dioxide gas, which would leave barely any bubbles rising to the top of the soda.
This would slow down the reaction time, and it would also result in a weaker explosion. Another
way to minimize the reaction time of Diet Coke and Mentos is to change the form of the Mentos
(Buddies, 2012). By changing the form, crushing up the Mentos will result in a much slower
and smaller eruption because of the density of the Mentos. If the Mentos are crushed, they are
less dense, so they will drift to the bottom slower. Whole Mentos are more dense, so they will
travel to the bottom of the coke bottle quicker. This being said, it will be harder for the carbon
dioxide gas to act fast with a less dense reactor. It will still cause a reaction, but it will not be a big

Awakening Essay
When Kate Chopin s The Awakening was published at the end of the 19th Century, many
reviewers took issue with what they perceived to be the author s defiance of Victorian proprieties,
but it is this very defiance with which has been responsible for the revival in the interest of the
novel today. This factor is borne out by Chopin s own words throughout her Prefacewhere she
indicates that women were not recipients of equal treatment. (Chopin, Preface ) Edna takes her own
lifeat the book s end, not because of remorseover having committed adultery but because she can
no longer struggle against the social conventions which deny her fulfillment as a person and as a
woman. Like Kate Chopin herself, Edna is an artist and a woman of... Show more content on

When Edna finally resolved to end her life it is not because she has been rejected by Robert but
because she can no longer lead the type authentic life which to her is the only life worth living, and
this is the result of the denial of equal rights to women by the society of that day.
Chopin has clearly taken care to anticipate criticisms that her suicide would leave the children
motherless by having her recently visit the children to find that they really had no need of her
and are perfectly content with the grandmother. In having Edna reflect that she would never
sacrifice herself for her children, Chopin was not arguing so much in defense of selfish ness as
against the view that a mother could be expected to deny her own freedom for the sake the
children in a manner that was not expected of the father. Thus, women s struggle is synonymous
with Edna s suicide as well as the events leading up to it. Edna plays a significant role in this story.
Overall, I personally construed K.
Chopin s novel as a repudiation of prevailing mores which govern women s behavior during that
period in time. Edna was an outsider. She did not comprehend that the personal freedoms she saw
all about her were well defined within a construct of old established social conventions,

Shamanistic Healing Essay
Shamanistic Healing
Shamanistic healing, one of the oldest spiritual healing powers, has recently become a topic of
interest in modern medicine.
What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is a mix of magic, folklore, medicine and spirituality that evolved in tribal and gathering
communities thousands of years ago. Shamanic faith presumes that everyone and everything has a
spirit which is a part of a greater whole, and that spirits affect all events, including illness and
disease. In the tradition of Shamanism it is believed that certain people named shamans exhibit
particular magical specialties at birth; the most common specialization is that of a healer. A Shaman

First the physiological response is when the mind becomes absorbed in and focused on a dominant
idea and the nervous system is cut off from physical sensory input. The body exhibits reflex inertia,
involuntary nervous responses, and frenzy. Emotional perception, another form of ecstasy, refers to
overwhelming feelings of awe, anxiety, joy, sadness, fear, astonishment, passion, or any
combination of intense emotion. Finally, intuitive perception occurs when there is an
understanding of the transpersonal experience and expanded states of awareness or consciousness
are possible. While the physiological response is always present, the emotional response and
intuitive perception may not be within reach for all those who venture into ecstatic trance. Opposed
to general hypnosis, practicing shamanic techniques uses self hypnotic states to fine tune senses
and observe the inner workings of ones mind semi consciously. Research findings suggest that the
contents of shamanic trance are not solely influenced by psychopathology, biochemical effects, or
cultural influences; there is a spiritual variable that must be accounted for. http://www.lib.ox.ac.uk

Milton s Inferno
In Paradise Lost Milton breaks down the universe into three layers: Heaven, Earth and finally
Hell. The top layer belongs to Heaven, this is due to the fact that God created Earth and as a
result the deserting Angels created Hell. The second layer is Earth due to its close ties to both and
the final layer is Hell. Milton employs contrasts in order to establish the perception of Heaven
and Hell he wants to convey to his readers. In Milton s universe Hell is continuously described as
filled with darkness, sorrow and eternal punishment for the demons that were once Angel s under
God s command. In book 1 Milton refers to Hell as a dungeon horrible, on all sides round, As one
great furnace flamed; yet from those flames No light; but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Faustus Marlowe portrays hell as limitless. This is similar to Milton s portrayal of Hell because
neither are confined to a specific place but instead can be found everywhere. Mephistophilis
establishes this when he reveals to Faustus that Hell hath no limits, nor is circumscribed In one
self place; for where we are is hell, And where hell is, there must we ever be... (5.120 124).
However, unlike Milton, Marlowe doesn t classify hell as a state of mind. In Dr. Faustus a
person s mind is not what allows Hell to be everywhere at once, what allows this is the absence
of God. As discussed earlier, Marlowe establishes that Heaven is found only in the presence of
God and wherever God is missing, there is hell, Mephastopilis confirms this when he says ...all
places shall be hell that is not heaven (5.125). This further emphasizes the that anywhere in
which God is absent should be considered heaven the The only sure way to go to hell, is to
denounce God, even those who have sinned can be saved as long as they repent. Unlike Milton,
Marlowe fights throughout his work against the concept of hell as a state of mind. Faustus
originally believes that there is no Hell, that it is simply a frame of mind which is why he is so
willing to take Lucifer s deal in exchange of getting what he wants. At the end of the last act
Faustus is taken by Hell and he finally realizes that what he believed about the existence of hell is
false and that Hell is as real as he is but the

Meat Vs Red Meat Research Paper
Everyone loves meat, after all, meat tastes good and offers us various healthy nutrients. However,
people often argue about which is better, red or white meat. Of course, not only nutrition is a factor,
but also taste and methods of cooking.
Myoglobin Makes Meat Red
You may be wondering, what gives red meatits characteristic color? Quite a simple answer, its
slow twitch fibers contain more myoglobin, the molecules which transport oxygen from the
bloodstream to muscles. Hence, muscles that an animal often utilizes becomes darker and reddish.
For example, an ostrich consistently runs, so its muscles are quite active, explaining its red meat.
As for white meat, it has less myoglobin since these muscles are utilized less frequently and in short
bursts. Its fast twitch fibers work during emergency situations, and not in routine activity. For
example, chicken breasts are whiter than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, it takes a short amount of time to prepare these meals. However, when it comes to
taste, red meat has a deeper flavor than white thanks to the fat content. White meat tends to be bland
and requires the taste of other sauces and toppings to make it taste good.
Eat Both Types for More Nutrition
Eating small amounts of both types of meat will offer you the best of both worlds. You may add
pork and beef to your stew to make it well rounded. Or, you may opt for a meat smoothie in
which you can throw in various types of meat. Doing so may require a power blender, so check
(insert site) to compare the top quality models.
Conclusion
Red meat has its color thanks to dense myoglobin percentage, while white lacks them. Although red
meat has higher fat content, it compensates by having more vitamins and minerals. Furthermore, it
has a richer flavor thanks to having more fat. However, the healthier option is to eat small amounts
of both to get the best of both

Sports in Pop Culture
Abstract
Gender, race, and competitiveness in youth sports have been controversial beginning on the very
first day of sports broadening its boundaries (Granderson, 2012). From Brent Barry to Kristy

way. Different people of different backgrounds, ethnic groups, and social classes, and ages have

The United States appears to be a nation obsessed with sports, more than fans based on the virtual

Skeletal Muscle Contraction Report
To fully understand the mechanisms that cause graded muscle contractions, the effects of fatigue,
twitch summation, twitch recruitment, tetanus and muscle stretch on skeletal muscle were
observed. The gastrocnemius muscle of the Rana pipiens frog was used for each of the 5
experiments performed. When twitch recruitment was observed, one trial was conducted by
stimulating the sciatic nerve and the other, conducted by stimulating the skeletal muscle. The
contractile force of the muscle was increased until reaching its maximum amplitude. This occurred
at a preload of 0.37 (N) raw twitch of 0.39 (N). Optimal length was concluded to be greater than or
equal to 5.9 mm, but an exact value was not found due to limitations on stretching. Summation was
studied by decreasing inter stimulus intervals until two twitches summed together. This occurred at
100ms, the point where two twitches could no longer be differentiated. One trial was run at
different pulse intervals at 500mV to observe tetanus. Tetanus occurred... Show more content on

  • 3. Custer s Revenge at the Battle of Little Bighorn Essay Custer s Revenge The Battle of Little Bighorn is one of the most significant battles in American history. This is not because of the weaponry used, the casualties, or even the battle strategies. This is because the battle is one of the only big battles that Native Americans won against the U.S. military. After this battle, the Native American power in the West ended. Ironically, by winning the Battle of Little Bighorn, the Sioux and Cheyenne actually sped up the downfall of Native American power. In 1876, after a treaty dispute, President Ulysses S. Grant issued an ultimatum stating that all Native Americans had to be on the Great Sioux Reservation by January 31st. When this ultimatum was not met, the United States declared war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he was discovered by one of the Sioux, he ordered his regiment to attack. Custer was overwhelmed by the number of Native Americans and he and his whole regiment died on what is now known as Custer Hill. The other force barely escaped and suffered casualties as well. In the end, the Battle of Little Bighorn was a disaster for the United States. When the American public heard of the slaughter of Custer and his troops, their main reaction was disbelief and outrage. Custer had been a celebrity to them. He had been the great boy general during the Civil War who liked to play tricks on his fellow generals. One time when he was fighting against a friend from military school, he captured his friend s supply train and showed up the next day wearing the friend s confederate uniform. Custer even sent a note to him about the uniform being too big. Custer was so popular during the war that he was singled out to accept General Robert E. Lee s white flag of surrender. After the Civil War he had less success, but he still won a few major battles against the Native Americans and never strayed too far from the public s eye. To America he was a great boy hero and when he died it was a huge blow to the morale of the country. They could not believe that such a great commander could be killed by a bunch of savages and all anyone could think of was revenge. For the Americans the best way of accomplishing this was extermination of the Native Americans. Immediately after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Bob Dylan Similes Among the American folk music, the name Bob Dylan is murmured with hushed respect ( Getting To Dylan 1986 documentary ). Bob Dylan, originally named Robert Allen Zimmerman was born on May 24, 1941. At the age of eighteen, Bob Dylan attended the University of Minnesota, where he sought interest in music. Influenced by the blues, country, and rock and roll, he began playing music as a teenager... ( Bob Dylan). Single mindedly, Bob Dylan coached himself to learn how to play multiple instruments such as the guitar, harmonica, and piano, which helped lead to a plentiful amount of awards and achievements. Chronologically, Bob Dylan was announced in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, was granted a Grammy for lifetime achievements in 1991 and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The usage of similes and alliteration in the lyrics Like a Rolling Stone, helps reflect the poetry in his work. The first and most vivid poetic device used throughout one of Bob Dylan s top ten hits Like a Rolling Stone are similes. The best example of a simile in his lyrics appears in line sixteen through eighteen. With no direction home / A complete unknown / Just like a rolling stone? (Dylan 16 18). With Bob Dylan stating this negative comparison of a hopeless woman to a stone rolling down a hill, going out of control, supports his listeners with the thought of a lonely woman with no direction home. So this phrase, a rolling stone, that meant a lack of material possessions, a lack of home, a lack of belonging for those who first sang it, became a symbol of liberation for the rock generation (Bowie). These material ties weakened our vision and the ability to be able to see around us. Singing this phrase and ending it with a question allowed Bob Dylan to create the sense of freedom and the achievement of clearing his listeners visions to help them see through the illusions around them. The other poetic device that contributed to the admirable background of the lyrics in Like a Rolling Stone is the usage of alliteration. The first example of the occurrence with the same sound and letters is in lines one to three, Once upon a time you dressed so fine / You threw the bums a dime in your prime, / Didn t you? (Dylan 1 3). With the repetition of ime and ine it presents us with a childlike feel towards the song. In addition to the childish feeling, it seems as if the woman approaches life in a much more simplistic way. The short line length, the fairy tale opening, the simple words and images, the straightforward aaaa repeating rhyme all these elements work together to create the feeling of a children s song, of a child s world (Bowie). The woman described in Bob Dylan s lyrics assumes that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Core Beliefs Of The Abrahamic And Messianic Faith Of... Core beliefs are the key foundations to all dynamic religious traditions of the world. In particular, core beliefs underpin the Abrahamic and Messianic faith of Judaism, as they offer Jewish adherents a unique interpretation of reality. Thus, these core beliefs must be viewed through a sympathetic cultural and historical lens. Leunig once said: Does G d exist? More to the point: what does it matter if G d exists or not? After all everything else seems to exist, so what s the problem? raising issues concerning G d s existence and its importance to humankind. A Jewish adherent would respond to this stimulus in light of the particular culture lens of their variant. This is established through the varying aspects of Jewish beliefs: the nature of G d, how one gains meaning and the view of human condition, how one ought to live through Jewish morality, along with beliefs concerning suffering, death and the after life. Firstly and fore mostly, Jewish adherents hold certain beliefs that address the nature of G d and this would have an influence on how one might respond to the stimulus. In the twelfth century, Jewish scholar Moses Maimonides summarised all 613 mitzvot, the positive and negative commandments outlined in the Torah (Morrissey, 2010, p.125). Referred to as the Thirteen Articles of Faith, this written composition highlights the basics of the Jewish belief system. What Is The Theme Of The Bird And The Arras The Bird and the Arras, is a poem written by Anne Finch, Countess of Winchilsea (1661 1720), she has always been a recognised author, but the recognition of her works have been revived in the last years. Her poetry reflects her thoughts and personal experiences, but also the social and political situation of the era (18 th century, England). As in the case of the poem The Bird and the Arras , the author describes the situation of the women of the time by the using of the symbol of the bird. Till some kind hand directs the certain way we can find a synecdoche, kind hand could be God s hand which will take her (the bird) to heaven, with this detail we can fathom that women were trapped in society, as heaven seems to be the only way to freedom they can find. The use of Heav n has a special meaning that confirms what mentioned before; the poet has chosen the use of Heav n instead of sky to reinforce the idea that it is the only way to freedom. The room where the bird is could be interpreted as a marriage, where the woman is nullified or it can represent a real room. Secondly, from the analysis made above, we can get to several interpretations of the poem. On a literal way the poem is describing how a bird tries to escape from a room because it is lock in it, which is a dramatic situation, as it is described in the poem. AP Biology Lab Report: How the Amount of Motor Oil Affects Hatching Viability of Brine Shrimp Eggs Question How does the amount of motor oil in the environment of a brine shrimp affect the hatching viability of brine shrimp eggs? Hypothesis If hatching viability is affected by the amount of motor oil in the environment of the brine shrimp eggs, then when the amount of motor oil is increased the hatching viability will decrease. Experimental Design The independent variable was the amount of motor oil in 2% salt solution because it is the variable that was being tested and purposefully manipulated. The dependent variable was the hatching viability of the brine shrimp tested (which was calculated by adding the number of brine shrimp swimming at 24 hours to the number of brine shrimp swimming at 48 hours, and then divided by the total number of eggs initially placed in the petri dish). The control group was a petri dish of brine shrimp in 30 ml of 2% salt solution with no motor oil. The constants, or variables that need to be controlled, were the salinity percentage of the salt solution (2%), the amount of salt solution in each petri dish (30 ml), the total time the brine shrimp were left in the petri dishes (48 hours), and the frequency of when the brine shrimp were checked (every 24 hours). Gambling is a leisure activity that usually provides excitement and fun for its players. Gambling also brings tremendous amounts of money into the economy and provides employment. American cities such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City thrive off of the gaming industry. Sure, gamblingcan be fun and exciting, but at what point does that fun activity develop into a pathological problem? In 2003, there was a proposal to add casinos into the mix of Kentucky s gambling options. Dr. John Kindt, a professor of commerce at the University of Illinois said that bringing casinos to Kentucky would be bad economics and bad social policy . Studies show that within the 35 mile feeder market around a casino, gamblers will spend 10 percent less on food, 25 percent less on clothing and that 37 percent will dip into their savings to pay for gambling. For every three (video slot) machines, you ll be losing two jobs from the feeder market economy, Kindt said. This occurs because each machine can be expected to bring in $100,000 per year that will not be used elsewhere in the economy (kybaptist.org). This is a serious issue that occurs when business owners do not think about how their actions will affect others in the future. Not only does gambling affect the economy of our communities, but it also has social effects. There are many negative consequences of gambling, while there are minimal positive outcomes. • 17. God s Grandeur By Gerald Manley Hopkins At the beginning of the 19th Psalm, David writes, The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Gerald Manley Hopkins seems to echo this theme in his poem, God s Grandeur. The interesting aspects of this poem are a result of Hopkins different perspectives on nature. In the beginning of the poem, Hopkins directs his focus on the glory of God through the lens of the world. There is then a turning point where he diverts his attention to the problems mankind inflicts upon creation. However, the closing of the poem involves him stepping back and reflecting upon the eternality of God. God s Grandeur is interwoven with powerful imagery that is evoked by elaborate double entendres that reflect the interaction between humans, nature, and the eternal grandeur of God that surpasses Earth, which though temporary, is under constant care from God despite our actions. The first stanza provides an interesting dynamic between creation and man. Hopkins writes, The world is charged with grandeur of God. / It will flame out, shining from shook foil... (1 2). The first two lines provide an interesting double entendre. When Hopkins writes, The world is charged with the grandeur of God (1), is evokes the imagery of electricity. When dissenting opinions and critical thinking are suppressed, it is not surprising that poor decisions can arise when groups uniformity is put first. In order to prevent such consequences, Janis suggested a few ways to avoid falling into the groupthink trap: 1. appoint a person to play devil s advocate to introduce differing opinions in order to force the rest of the group to consider other options and think critically about their own beliefs; 2. allow independent experts to attend group sessions to evaluate the decision making process; and 3. • 33. Joel Feinberg Psychological Egoism Analysis Psychological egoism is the interpretation that humans are always inspired by self interest, even in what seem to be acts of altruism. It claims that, when people choose to help others, they do so ultimately because of the personal benefits that they themselves expect to obtain, directly or indirectly, from doing so. Psychological egoism, which was widely recognized by psychologists and philosophers states that all human actions are motivated by selfish needs to benefit themselves. According to psychological egoists true altruismdoes not exist because the consequence of such an act leads to an increase in personal happiness. However, Joel Feinberg does not agree with that theory and in his essay he disagreed with the thesis that altruism... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He would have explained to me that even though some philosopher could argue that all of our acts are considered as selfish since the main source of our action is us therefore it does make sense that our only motif is to obtain pleasure for ourselves. As mentioned in the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Psychological egoists cannot establish their view simply by pointing to the pleasure or self benefit that accompanies so many actions. After all, often self benefit only seems to be what we ultimately desire, though a closer look reveals benefits like pleasure are likely just byproducts while the proximate desire is for that which generates them ( Psychological Egoism). Joel Feinberg would explain that the acts that are generated to help others even though we can receive pleasure for acting such way could be and should be considered as an altruistic act. Pleasure can be a byproduct of a good deed but what matters is what generated the good deed and if it s for a good reason and to help others it should be considered as an altruistic ... However, there have been four fundamental developments that have occurred in the last forty five years (Lee, et al., 1996): The increased time spent within indoor environments. Essay on Ted Williams vs. Ty Cobb Ted Williams vs. Ty Cobb In the August 30, 1905 edition of Detroit s Free Press, the sportswriters ran a small blurb announcing the arrival of a Detroit Tigers rookie, Ty Cobb. They stated, Cobb left the South Atlantic League with a batting average of .328. He will not pile up anything like that in this league, and he doesn t expect to (Allen 177). Their prediction ironically rung true. Cobb hit better than their projected .328 batting average twenty times in his twenty four seasons (McCallum 217). Tyrus Raymond Cobb s prolific career leads many fans and historians to believe that he deserves the title of greatest hitter of all time. Williams faced spitball less pitchers and benefited from frequent baseball changes during a game, keeping the ball fresh and visibly white ( 1920 1945 ). Homerun totals increased because of these essential changes in the game. Therefore, the supporters of Williams have little merit in the defense that the Splendid Splinter hit more homeruns than Cobb. Cobb, annoyed by frequent questions about the homerun power of Babe Ruth, stated that batters need no special skills to hit homeruns. To back up his claim, Cobb went out and hit three homeruns that night and two more the next (Ty). Though capable of hitting the long ball, Cobb preferred to choke up on the bat and slap singles, bunts, doubles, and triples to all corners of the ballpark. Since a comparison between homerun numbers has no merit because of the multiple variables existing between the eras in which Cobb and Williams played, it should be thrown out as a criterion for a great hitter. Therefore, the qualities that exemplify great hitting would be: batting average, batting titles, hits, doubles, triples, Runs Batted In, and the opinions of other baseball players and analysts. Until Pete Rose collected his 4,191st hit on September11 1985, Ty Cobb held the record for most career hits in baseball. For this new age, Mark Twain named it after the glittering surface of the time that was covering the vast corruption underneath. Lines vary in length from four to eight syllables, but those of five or six syllables predominate. Instead of using Mentos with a rough, bumpy coating, try using Mentos with a smoother texture. Having a smoother outer cover, the attraction the carbon dioxide gas has to the Mentos will only lessen. This would decrease the amount of bubbles being produced by the carbon dioxide gas, which would leave barely any bubbles rising to the top of the soda. This would slow down the reaction time, and it would also result in a weaker explosion. Another way to minimize the reaction time of Diet Coke and Mentos is to change the form of the Mentos (Buddies, 2012). By changing the form, crushing up the Mentos will result in a much slower and smaller eruption because of the density of the Mentos. If the Mentos are crushed, they are less dense, so they will drift to the bottom slower. Whole Mentos are more dense, so they will travel to the bottom of the coke bottle quicker. Chopin has clearly taken care to anticipate criticisms that her suicide would leave the children motherless by having her recently visit the children to find that they really had no need of her and are perfectly content with the grandmother. In having Edna reflect that she would never sacrifice herself for her children, Chopin was not arguing so much in defense of selfish ness as against the view that a mother could be expected to deny her own freedom for the sake the children in a manner that was not expected of the father. Thus, women s struggle is synonymous with Edna s suicide as well as the events leading up to it. Edna plays a significant role in this story. Overall, I personally construed K. While the physiological response is always present, the emotional response and intuitive perception may not be within reach for all those who venture into ecstatic trance. Opposed to general hypnosis, practicing shamanic techniques uses self hypnotic states to fine tune senses and observe the inner workings of ones mind semi consciously. Research findings suggest that the contents of shamanic trance are not solely influenced by psychopathology, biochemical effects, or cultural influences; there is a spiritual variable that must be accounted for. http://www.lib.ox.ac.uk /internet/news/faq/archive/shamanism.overview.html Variations of Shamanism There are varied approaches that have developed all over the world under the designation of Shamanism, each having distinct practices that explore inter relations. • 51. Milton s Inferno In Paradise Lost Milton breaks down the universe into three layers: Heaven, Earth and finally Hell. The top layer belongs to Heaven, this is due to the fact that God created Earth and as a result the deserting Angels created Hell. The second layer is Earth due to its close ties to both and the final layer is Hell. Milton employs contrasts in order to establish the perception of Heaven and Hell he wants to convey to his readers. In Milton s universe Hell is continuously described as filled with darkness, sorrow and eternal punishment for the demons that were once Angel s under God s command. In book 1 Milton refers to Hell as a dungeon horrible, on all sides round, As one great furnace flamed; yet from those flames No light; but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faustus Marlowe portrays hell as limitless. This is similar to Milton s portrayal of Hell because neither are confined to a specific place but instead can be found everywhere. Mephistophilis establishes this when he reveals to Faustus that Hell hath no limits, nor is circumscribed In one self place; for where we are is hell, And where hell is, there must we ever be... (5.120 124). However, unlike Milton, Marlowe doesn t classify hell as a state of mind. In Dr. Faustus a person s mind is not what allows Hell to be everywhere at once, what allows this is the absence of God. As discussed earlier, Marlowe establishes that Heaven is found only in the presence of God and wherever God is missing, there is hell, Mephastopilis confirms this when he says ...all places shall be hell that is not heaven (5.125). This further emphasizes the that anywhere in which God is absent should be considered heaven the The only sure way to go to hell, is to denounce God, even those who have sinned can be saved as long as they repent. Unlike Milton, Marlowe fights throughout his work against the concept of hell as a state of mind. Faustus originally believes that there is no Hell, that it is simply a frame of mind which is why he is so willing to take Lucifer s deal in exchange of getting what he wants. At the end of the last act Faustus is taken by Hell and he finally realizes that what he believed about the existence of hell is false and that Hell is as real as he is but the ... • 52. Meat Vs Red Meat Research Paper Everyone loves meat, after all, meat tastes good and offers us various healthy nutrients. However, people often argue about which is better, red or white meat. Of course, not only nutrition is a factor, but also taste and methods of cooking. Myoglobin Makes Meat Red You may be wondering, what gives red meatits characteristic color? Quite a simple answer, its slow twitch fibers contain more myoglobin, the molecules which transport oxygen from the bloodstream to muscles. Hence, muscles that an animal often utilizes becomes darker and reddish. For example, an ostrich consistently runs, so its muscles are quite active, explaining its red meat. As for white meat, it has less myoglobin since these muscles are utilized less frequently and in short bursts. Its fast twitch fibers work during emergency situations, and not in routine activity. For example, chicken breasts are whiter than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, it takes a short amount of time to prepare these meals. However, when it comes to taste, red meat has a deeper flavor than white thanks to the fat content. White meat tends to be bland and requires the taste of other sauces and toppings to make it taste good. Eat Both Types for More Nutrition Eating small amounts of both types of meat will offer you the best of both worlds. You may add pork and beef to your stew to make it well rounded. Or, you may opt for a meat smoothie in which you can throw in various types of meat. Doing so may require a power blender, so check (insert site) to compare the top quality models. Conclusion Red meat has its color thanks to dense myoglobin percentage, while white lacks them. Although red meat has higher fat content, it compensates by having more vitamins and minerals. Furthermore, it has a richer flavor thanks to having more fat. However, the healthier option is to eat small amounts of both to get the best of both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Sports in Pop Culture Abstract Gender, race, and competitiveness in youth sports have been controversial beginning on the very first day of sports broadening its boundaries (Granderson, 2012). From Brent Barry to Kristy Yamaguchi to Tiger Woods, one of the youngest golf champions ever, sports has always been one way. Different people of different backgrounds, ethnic groups, and social classes, and ages have shown that he or she can do anything if they have the will to accomplish the task (Granderson, 2012). Tiger Woods won 71 PGA Tours, Kristy Yamaguchi excelled in figure skating and Brent Barry showed that White men can jump when he won the 1996 slam dunk contest. Race, gender, and youth have nothing to do with ability and skill in sports (Granderson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A clear example of poor sportsmanship is in the recent highlight of the (bounty program) with the New Orleans Saints. According to the New York Times, players collected bonuses if they enable the opposing team member to return to the game because of hard hits or injuries (Battista, 2012). This team of highly paid athletes acted irresponsibly, caused bodily harm to the other players, and brought shame upon the franchise. The United States appears to be a nation obsessed with sports, more than fans based on the virtual addition to sports statistics (Petracca Sorapure, 2007). Most fans are hook on statistic; this is how they measure the achievements of the most likeable athletes and team. This may be how fans hold on to memories of never to repeated athletes performance and without a doubt to find more evidence of Americans preoccupation with sports (Petracca Sorapure, 2007). For Instance; the mass media of newspapers who allot an entire section sport reports and statistics, weekly and monthly publications focusing on sports, and, important sport events, such as the Super Bowl. Sport in American culture are some of the higher rated on the TV broadcasts, and various cable network that are dedicated to branding sports 24 hour a day (Petracca Sorapure, 2007). • 54. Design Of Precast Structural Elements CHAPTER 6 DESIGN OF PRECAST STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS 6.1 Preamble The precast structural components are manufactured off or on the sites, transported to the site and with suitable handling and erection procedures, they are assembled so as to form a structural system. The design should cater to the conditions encountered during the various stages of construction. The Different types of precast elements manufactured are listed below. Floor and Roof units: Hollow core slabs, Double T, Single T, and Precast Planks. Precast Beam Girders: can be rectangular, L, inverted T, I and U shapes. They are usually prestressed with projecting stirrups. Precast Decked Slab Beams: Reduce number of beams, eliminate cast in place concrete, rapid installation, Shallow superstructure. Precast concrete columns: may be single or multiple storey height Precast wall panels: Non load bearing panel (cladding), Load bearing panel: Solid, Hollow core, Ribbed, Sandwich In this study design of a few precast elements such as Hollow core floor units, RC load bearing solid wall, columns with corbels are considered. The designs are automated using semi automation tools available in EXCEL. These are presented in the following sections. 6.2 Design of Hollow Core Units This is a precast and prestressed concrete elements with continuous voids to reduce the self weight. They are immensely used as roof o floor deck systems. They are used as spandrel members, bridge deck and wall panels units. Slabs are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Skeletal Muscle Contraction Report To fully understand the mechanisms that cause graded muscle contractions, the effects of fatigue, twitch summation, twitch recruitment, tetanus and muscle stretch on skeletal muscle were observed. The gastrocnemius muscle of the Rana pipiens frog was used for each of the 5 experiments performed. When twitch recruitment was observed, one trial was conducted by stimulating the sciatic nerve and the other, conducted by stimulating the skeletal muscle. The contractile force of the muscle was increased until reaching its maximum amplitude. This occurred at a preload of 0.37 (N) raw twitch of 0.39 (N). Optimal length was concluded to be greater than or equal to 5.9 mm, but an exact value was not found due to limitations on stretching. Summation was studied by decreasing inter stimulus intervals until two twitches summed together. This occurred at 100ms, the point where two twitches could no longer be differentiated. One trial was run at different pulse intervals at 500mV to observe tetanus. Tetanus occurred... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A motor unit is made up of one motor neuron and all the muscle fibers it has control of or stimulates. Acetylcholine released from the motor neuron bind to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on skeletal muscle membranes which result in a change in permeability throughout the muscle fiber. The change in permeability causes an action potential while rising cytosolic calcium levels lead to a flow of events ultimately ending in a twitch or muscle contraction. Graded muscle contractions are completed by two basic mechanisms: alteration of inter stimulus intervals between successive action potentials and recruitment processes that control the amount of active motor units (Raikova, 2013). These mechanisms are used to analyze the processes of twitch recruitment, relationships between length and tension, tetanus, summation and fatigue in the skeletal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
