Wasted Time In High School
Emily Sellers
Composition 1301 332
Mrs. Kinkead
24 September 2017 Wasted time in High School
Public high schools tend to waste a lot of time in class doing things that aren t related to school at all.
It has been reported that in many schools, teachers make students do chores for them for extra credit
points, while others are learning new things. Jay Mathews wrote A startling waste of precious
classroom time, published in 2014 in the Washington Post, and he argues that so much time is wasted
in low income schools due to teachers and it makes it very difficult for students to learn in that
environment. Mathews begins to establish pathos by stating the names of two girls that go to Compton
High School and want to learn, but their school is unable to give them the education they desire.
Mathews established ethos a little later in his article by stating facts about programs he has
encountered with inner city schools; however, toward the end of his article, he uses facts to establish
logos, which is the appeal of logic, while stating that schools have been sued because low income
students have not been given the right education.
Mathews explains that Wasting time is common in the nation s low income schools. Class schedules
can be a mess at the beginning of the year, forcing students to wait days in the library for their
assignments (Mathews). Mathews establishes ethos through stating the facts of wasted time in low
income schools. Mathews states that at Compton High

Poetry as a Reflection of The Inner Being
Alfred Tennyson gifted the Victorian Era, and the literary world with two iconic poems. The author
explored the themes of personal development and culture clash in one of his most famous poems,
Ulysses . Tennyson also discovered and analyzed the themes of love and death through his renowned
and eminent poem, Tears Idle, Tears . The poet was born in Somersby, Lincolnshire in 1809 in the East
Lindy district of England. Tennyson experienced numerous amounts of difficulties in his childhood
and growing adolescent phases that spilled into his adult life. These trials and tribulations became a
foundation and source of inspiration for Tennyson, who used them as a stimulus and catalyst to aide
his literary progress and ideas. Two of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thirdly, although Tennyson was engaged to Emily Sell wood...the condition of his health resulted in
their separation (Napierkowski and Rose 273). The poet is unable to maintain relationships even with
his fiancé, which drives him to dissect the ideas of love and death in his poems. But the negative
brought a sliver of positive, without the anguish at the loss of a friend, Tennyson would have never
written...his greatest poem (Padgett 93). This validates that the author s life experiences contributed to
his writings, and were implanted into his tone, themes, words and stylistic decisions. His characters
can also be seen as a mirror reflection of Tennyson s deeper and underlying being.
Overall Tennyson was a perfect mold to the ideals and thoughts of society in the Victorian Era. He
opposed the new scientific knowledge that created a drift from traditionalism. He was rooted in the old
style, organic beliefs that the Victorian era was ferociously trying to preserve, as new technology and
scientific inventions and theories were being developed. The Victorian era was characterized by many
qualities such as smugness, narrow mindedness, bourgeoisie, materialism, faith in social progress and
priggish morality (Galens 380). Society maintained a sense of pride and confidence in themselves.
These ideals can be witnessed in Tennyson s poems which are a ...typical example of Victorian
smugness (Bloom 20). A sense of smugness is also paralleled

Oil Embargo By The Organization Of Petroleum Exporting...
Oil embargo in 1973 by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Companies (OPEC) focuses
attention on the energy crisis and results in increased demand for coal as a preferred alternative to oil
in the United States Europe, and much of the rest of the world [Speight 2013]. At that time there were
a large number of oil power plants in the world which had suddenly become very expensive to operate
led to the introduction of larger coal fired power plants [Jeffs 2010]. While Middle East countries
which has the largest proven reserves of crude oil; fuel oil as well as crude oil are an available and
economically feasible fuel in power and water desalination plants (Fig 1). For example, Saudi Arabia
which has the largest known oil reserves in the world, consume annually more than 40 million tons of
crude oil and heavy fuel oil [Husain and Ahmad 2015] in both sea water desalination and power
plants. The produced ashes were collected using electrostatic precipitators installed in the major
facilities and dispose into landfills. While Egypt consume annually approximately 7 million tons of
heavy fuel oil in electric power plants to generate electricity, generation more than 4000 metric tons of
oil ashes [Mohammed et al 2016]. All the Egyptian power plants are not fitted with electrostatic
precipitators and situated in the densely populated region. In addition, most of the ashes are not used
for anything but landfill. However, little attention has been paid to the environmental effect

Critical Appreciation Of Robert Frost s Poetry
Poetry in the purest form comes from an author that is writing from his or her own life experiences
and Robert Frost did just that. In three words I can sum up everything I ve learned about life: it goes
on. Frost uttered these words in remark to how he coped with his troubled life. He dealt with heaps of
loss throughout his lifetime which led to him expressing his innermost thoughts and feelings through
poetry. Robert Frost s poetry was influenced by his depression that came from the many trials he went
through during his life, the different places he lived and the many poets he befriended.
Frost dealt with depression caused by onerous circumstances in his life and these circumstances
profoundly influenced his writing. When Robert was eleven years old he lost his father which forced
his family to move away from their home and try to cope with their lost. This was just the first of
many loved ones who would pass away during his life. Once he got married his first born son died at
the age of four to an illness, his second born committed suicide at the age of thirty eight, his third
child developed a mental illness and his last child died in her early twenties during childbirth. He went
on to also lose his wife to heart attack in 1938 and he was forced to commit his sister into a mental
institution in 1920. After all the loved ones he lost he plunged into a state of depression which
translated into his tone of writing in some of his most famous poems. My Butterfly, the first

Annotated Bibliography: Influence of Social Media This annotated bibliography investigates several

Difference in competencies between ADN and BSN Essay
DIFFERENCE IN COMPETENCIES BETWEEN ADN AND BSN A nurse is a healthcare
professional who is trained care for sick. The key roles in nursing are promotion of health and
prevention of illness, and also education, research, advocacy, health system management and
promotion of safe environment. There are two different categories of nurses based on educational
level. One is an Associate Degree Nurse (ADN), a 2 year program and other a Baccalaureate Degree
Nurse (BSN), a four year program. Though educational programs are different, the students of each
program have to pass the same NCLEX RN examination to practice as nurses.. The following will
give a good understanding of differences in competency between ADN and BSN Nurses. The ... Show

160) Knowledge elevates the power of critical thinking. Critical thinking is very essential to work in
areas such as Intensive Care Units, Emergency Care Units. Assessment, diagnosis, planning,
implementation and evaluation are best done by a BSN than an ADN because of the power of critical
thinking. The skills of critical thinking, better problem solving, and development of clinical judgment
are important for increase patient acuity. Since BSN is better in critical thinking and evidence based
practice, they lower mortality rate significantly. (Aiken, 2003) Effective Communication BSN has
more communication skill than ADN. Four years of study makes them good communicators. Good
communication is a key part of nursing. An effective communication helps to build a therapeutic
relationship. Studies have also found that nurses prepared at the baccalaureate level have stronger
communication and problem solving skills (Johnson, 1988) and a higher proficiency in their ability to
make nursing diagnoses and evaluate nursing interventions (Giger Davidhizar, 1990). Quality of Care
BSN can provide quality care because of better critical thinking, problem solving and communication
skills. They also take leadership in giving quality care. Thus they lower mortality rate. Nurse staffing
and educational preparation of registered nurses were significantly associated with patient outcomes.

Roe vs Wade
In 1973, the Supreme Court made a decision in one of the most controversial cases in history, the case
of Roe v. Wade (410 U.S. 113 (1973)), in which abortion was legalized and state anti abortion statues
were struck down for being unconstitutional. This essay will provide a brief history and analysis of the
issues of this case for both the woman s rights and the states interest in the matter. Also, this essay will
address the basis for the court ruling in Roe s favor and the effects this decision has had on subsequent
cases involving a woman s right to choose abortion in the United States. The court s decision created
legal precedent for several subsequent abortion restriction cases and has led to the development of
legislation to protect women s health rights. Although the Supreme Court s decision in Roe v. Wade
was a historic victory for women s rights, it is still an extremely controversial subject today and
continues to be challenged by various groups. Roe v. Wade Case Law Analysis Before 1973, abortion
access was determined by state legislature for each individual state with no consistency across the
United States. Some states allowed abortions but most state statues heavily restricted or completely
banned abortion. The restricted states would generally only allow abortion in the event of rape, incest,
fetal anomalies, or the woman s life is at risk. The state of Texas enforced a state statute that made it
illegal for an abortion to be performed unless the woman s

Informed Consent Document Analysis
In this chapter of the book, the authors explored the topics related to the rights of clients when they
start the therapeutic process, the responsibilities of counselors with their clients, legal and ethical
issues with online counseling, ethical issues at the time of working with minors, and the concept of
malpractice and the adequate course of action after a complaint.
As explained in this chapter, an essential part of the ethical practice is to discuss the rights that clients
have before starting the session. This is beneficial for clients as they become autonomous of their
decisions, and for counselors because they can avoid ethical complaints from their clients. Providing
an informed consent document to clients is one of the most important ways of respecting their rights.
This document clarifies the boundaries within the sessions, provides general information about the
therapeutic process, the benefits and risks of receiving therapy, and informs the client about his/her
right of confidentiality, including its limitations and exceptions. In the first meeting with the client, the
counselor should provide informed consent either verbally, with a document, or in both ways (Corey,
Corey, Corey, Callanan, 2015).

clients about its benefits and risks. This type of counseling can be beneficial to people who have
chronic illnesses or disabilities preventing them to assist to the sessions and it also allows for a higher
number of clients. However, this type of counseling does not guarantee confidentiality, does not help
the counselor distinguish behavioral clues, does not help create a connection between client and
counselor to develop trust, and so forth (Corey, Corey, Corey, Callanan,

Stereotyping Of Dolphins
Imagine you are a sales representative for a makeup company. You re making your monthly run

you re selling. Then you realize, you had not been to the mansion at the top of the large hill in your
hometown. You arrive at the front yard of the mansion and you re amazed by the many hedges that are
many different shapes and sizes. For example, there are dinosaurs and dolphins. They are unlike
anything you have seen before. You knock on the door and no one answers so you just walk in. Once
you are up in the attic, you see a man wearing dark clothing and that is sitting all alone. You say,

Lily Owens Character Analysis
Lily Owens is a teenage girl who wishes her life was different. At the age of four Lily s mother died
after being shot. Everyday she wishes her mother would be there to protect her from an abusive father
and a miserable life. Lily s mother left very few possessions behind, only a picture and a mason jar.
These items allowed Lily to feel safe. The memory of her mother helped her face each trial. She spent
much of her life searching for a mother figure and recreating her mother s story. Lily longed for love
and attention, something her father and caregiver, Rosaleen couldn t seem to give her. The reality was
that Lily lived in a time that segregation was intact and John Fitzgerald Kennedy was trying to launch
rockets to the moon. The author used symbolism, for example space, to show the lost nature of Lily s
character. Fourteen and my life went spinning off into a whole new orbit (1). Lost in thought, Lily
always was thinking about what would happen if her mother was around. She was forced to follow her
father s orders or she would be hit or shoved. This made her want to create as much distance between
her and her father as possible. On the back of her mother s picture it said Tiburon, South Carolina.
Maybe in Tiburon she could have a better life and bring her closer to her mother? Lily and Rosaleen
hatched a plan to escape. As they left town they were confronted by a group of white men. Rosaleen
spat on their shoes in protest of her rights. Then she was beaten up and sent to jail. T. Ray (Lily s
father) was furious! At this pivotal moment Lily knew she must leave. Confidence grew throughout
Lily, she got Rosaleen out of the hospital and left to Tiburon. Before she left she gave T. Ray a note
saying, Dear T. Ray don t bother looking for me. Lily P.S. People who tell lies like you should rot in
hell (42). This is a major turning point in this book because Lily had never stood up to her father like
that. On Rosaleen and Lily s adventure they found a house, it is a honey farm. Living there are three
women August, May, and June. Lily hid the fact that her mother was dead but deep down inside she
knew these women knew her mother. The three women were very suspicious about Lily but they kept

Gilgamesh, Beowulf As A Literary Hero
It has been a part of humankind since the invention of story to venerate a reflection of what is believed
to be the ideal person; complete with strengths, flaws, aspirations, and codes that mold his or her
goals, decisions, and, ultimately, fate. Such figures, though imperfect, are celebrated because they are
attainable, for perfection is too far beyond the inspirational grip of imagination for many. Each of
these heroes, be they Gilgamesh, Beowulf, or Achilles, are motivated toward different goals and take a
varied and unique path in order to achieve these goals, which are shaped by the social and political
climates in which they are formed. However diverse these character arcs may be, they each share
overlapping characteristics that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This such loyalty is shared with the acclaimed literary hero Beowulf, who ultimately offers his life in
a fierce battle with the dragon for his people. The manner in which Gawain then faces the trials set
forth by the Green Knight also demonstrates the strict moral code of sir Gawain; that of the chivalrous
knight. His dedication to his code of chivalry is no more evident than in his encounters with the lady
of Bertilak s castle; while she incessantly makes advances toward Gawain in his bedchamber, he
summons his willpower each time to maintain his code of chivalry and refuse her while remaining
courteous. Blekner asserts the moral struggle that Gawain faces in this scene, stating that We are
always aware that the real threat is not so much the considerable sexual attractiveness of the lady s
flesh as the young hero s fear of not living up to his worldy reputation for cortaysye (Blekner 367).
The seduction scene not only illustrates Gawain s heroism through his manner and courtesy towards
Bertilak s wife, but also the humanity in his flaws that makes him a true hero. While Gawain is
stalwart in his belief in loyalty to his king and chivalry toward women, he is also flawed in that he
doesn t tell the lord of the castle about his prize. In these scenes, Gawain shows a fracture in his
otherwise infallible demeanor; a weakness that he is

Title
Romer, Daniel, Hall Jamieson, Kathleen Aday, Sean 2003, Television News and the Cultivation of
Fear of Crime , Journal of communication, vol. 53, pp. 88 104.
Topic
This paper explores the concept of cultivation theory and the way in which violent programming on
television can instil fear and influence perceptions when it comes to experiencing crime in the
community. In using research findings to explore their hypothesis, the authors focus on analyzing data
which underpins their prediction that television viewers are influenced to believe in a social reality, in
this case a life threatened by crime, incongruous or actual crime rates.
Context
The context of this paper fits neatly within a number of fields and disciplines spanning
communication, sociology, politics, criminology and education. Published in the flagship journal of
the International Communication Association for an academic readership, it is thorough and
innovative in using a combination of research findings while also considering race, wealth and
geographical demographics. This is a persuasive construct that supports the thesis. As such, this paper
been considered an important source of information for communications scholars, students, media
strategists, news media producers, governments and policy makers. From the time it was published in
2003, the paper has been cited in several academic journals while the individual authors have

Hudson Taylor
Student Review
I have seen that living in luxury is pointless and not only that but it can effect the way one lives for
God. When you live with just the necessities, you show yourself that there is more to entertainment
and comfort in life, that seeking material wealth all the time, Is a waste of time and the precious gift of
life which God has bestowed upon us to live for His glory and not our own. Gods will is indeed
inedible. Nothing we can do will prevent what He has in store for us in this life and the next. When we
do follow Gods will and obey Him, much joy and peace will pursue those who follow Christ.
Blessings abound in the righteous living of the one who obeys and hears God.

Hudson was faithful to God. His actions are a true model of the missionary of today and tomorrow.
Hudson s faith could be a lesson for us all,
quot; The assurance was brought vividly to me that what ever I asked of God in the name of Christ
would be done; that the father maybe glorified in the son, that what I had to do was seek strength for
the long walk, to receive it by faith and set out upon it. Unhesitatingly I told the Lord I was quite
willing to take the walk if He would give me the strength. quot; (Pg. 42)
Hudson lived for God and not himself, as seen in chapter three,
quot; I soon found that I could live upon very much less than I had previously thought possible.
Butter, Milk and other such luxuries I soon ceased to use; and I found that living mainly on oatmeal
and rice, with occasional variations, a very small sum was sufficient for my needs. In this way I had
more than two thirds of my income available for other purposes; and my experience was that the less I
spent on my self, and the more I gave away, the fuller of happiness and blessings did my soul become.
quot;
(Pg. 21)
#9;The spiritual account of Hudson is one to be reckoned in that, He is an example and role model for
missionaries today. Likewise from reading the account of Hudson Taylor, I realize that life is to
important to waste on the luxuries of life, living for self and not for Christ, but true blessings and
wisdom come for those who follow Christ and obey,

There was a time when he did get in trouble and even now he remembers clearly when his father

you think the consequences will be if you tell the truth, and honorable man does not lie. A
Schwarzkopf does not lie. (11) It was not only his father who had shown him how to conduct himself,
but it was his mother as well. His father would be out on missions for long periods of time and he
learned from his mother the need for tolerance. Respect and how to be courteous to all no matter
whom they were or what they looked like, is what his mother taught him. Not everything was as pretty

was left with the entire burden when his father left and it eventually became too much to handle. His
mother became an alcoholic and he and his family suffered tremendously from his mother s sickness.

During my guided reading practice, I decided to choose two students that read at a level A. These two
students were grouped together because they need almost the same help in order for them to grow as a

world. From there it is critical that a standard must be set for the production of all enzymes used in
this process, making sure they are produced in abundance to ensure stability. Concerning the cost it is
evident that production of this drug through chemoenzymatic means compares similarly to that of
through pig intestines. Moreover the more steadfast way of producing heparin through chinese
hamster ovary cells (CHOs) would most likely greatly exceed production through pig intestines. This
would make CHOs used more in designer Heparin doses (Vaidyanathan, 2017). Other methods show

some assistance. I am kind of quiet when I don t know where I am at or who I m going to be dealing

Gender, Sexuality, Reproduction, And Motherhood
Prior to and during the 1960 s the traditional outlook on women as equals was limites in nearly every
aspect. From marriage, sexuality, reproduction, and motherhood a woman was expected to follow a
pre destined order and timeline in life to complete these tasks. The expectation of women at the time
was to marry young, 18 24, and quickly start a family where she would devote her life to raising
children and housekeeping. Wives of the time period shouldered the responsibilities of child care and
home making, while men were expected to merely work, come home to a clean house and dinner, and
then slip off to bed. Until the late 1960 s when women began pushing for social change to rid
themselves from the slavery of traditional womanhood. Though this life style seems more like
imprisonment, some women didn t feel that way, for example my grandmother Armalene Haxby, was
content in her role as the home maker. However we know that this idea wasn t shared with the rest of
American women. The 1960 s was filled with social reforms and women rights protest meant to free
the American women to be equal to their male counter parts. An excerpt from Betty Friedan s book
The Feminine Mystique, gave insight to some women s outlook on life, I m desperate. I begin to feel I
have no personality. I m a server of food and a putter on of pants and a bed maker, somebody who can
be called on when you want something. But who am I? (Friedan 63) What was it like to be a house

Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cat Woman; when you hear the word hero or

heroes such as Hazel, fit the archetype of a hero; they are all courageous, resourceful, and strong

of their stories fit the archetypal pattern of a heroic quest. A heroic quest consists of twelve steps that
the hero completes throughout his or her journey. In this essay, I will be explaining the parallels

Towards a better and cleaner textile industry [Textual Analysis] Written Assignment 4 This assignment
is through an analysis of appeal forms, speech acts, move structures, text functions, text types and
relevant rhetorical strategies going to determine the genre and purpose of the text Towards a better and
cleaner textile industry , which was posted on Novozymes website on March 30, 2011. Appeal Forms
The text consists of a number of logical arguments that promote the use of enzymes in the textile
industry, which means the dominating appeal form is logos. This is supported by the use of numbers
(l. 1 3), scientific terms as polycarboxylates, enzymes and molecule and the reference to the special

17 38) and at last the peroration (l. 40 45). This is supported by the common known subject i.e. that
Novozymes produces enzymes and the use of both logos and ethos appeal. In addition, the move
structure more specifically follows the news report move structure as it uses the inverted pyramid,
where the most important information is in the beginning. The moves are: Event (l. 1 3), then
interpretation (l.4 8) followed by background (l. 10 15), details of the event (l. 17 23), background (25
42) and at last comments from people involved (l. 42 43). As the text comes from Novozymes, it
would though be characterized as a press release which often bears resemblance to the news report
move structure. Though as mentioned in the paragraph about appeal forms, the use of ethos indicates
that the text is not only made for an informative purpose. Text Functions At first sight, the function of
the text is the informative text function, as it seeks to express something about the referent. This is
supported by the dominant use of logos appeal, representative speech acts and the move structure
being press release. Though, as the commissive speech act and indirect directive speech acts are also
present, there is evidence that the text also has an indirect directive text function as it tries to affect the
receiver to use enzymes. In combination with the use of ethos, this indicates that the text has a
character of argumentation. Text Types As stated above

Immature Morphology
In the oocyte and early embryo, mitochondria possess a round morphology with only a few cristae that
are parallel to the outer mitochondrial membrane and an electron dense mitochondrial matrix. These
immature mitochondria are usually around 1 µm in diameter during the early cleavage stages (Motta
et al., 2000). This is different from mitochondria found in somatic cells as somatic cell mitochondria
have an elongated morphology that contain numerous transverse cristae (Xu et al., 2013). Somatic
cells also metabolize most of their energy substrates through OXPHOS for the production of energy.
Metabolism of early pig embryos has been discussed in the previous section. These early cleavage
stage embryos metabolize very little glucose through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rhodamine is a lipophilic, cationic dye that accumulates in the mitochondrial matrix because of its
charge and solubility in both the inner mitochondrial membrane and matrix space (Scaduto and
Grotyohann, 1999). The major limitation for using rhodamine 123 is that when the membrane
potential is lost the rhodamine 123 no longer accumulates in the mitochondria so there is no signal.
MitoTracker probes label mitochondria similarly to rhodamine 123; however, MitoTracker is also
chemically reactive and links to thiol groups in the mitochondria (Chazotte, 2011). Since it is linked to
the thiol groups MitoTracker maintains its location and fluorescence intensity after fixation.
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) can be used to determine changes in mitochondria
morphology. This technology gives an intricate snapshot of the mitochondria s location within the cell,
the overall morphology, the number and of density of the cristae, and membranes at a specific time
point. This morphological information provides an indication of both mitochondrial and cellular
function, and metabolism. However, TEM allows for only a limited number of samples to be

Geoffrey Chaucer Research Paper
This is a story about an author with an unfinished story that survived the passage of time. I will be
discussing the life, the works, and the impact of Geoffrey Chaucer. Geoffrey Chaucer was born in
1340, London, England. He is the son of John and Agnes de Copton Chaucer. Chaucer s family were
wine merchants. Chaucer s first job was as a page for Elizabeth, the countess of Ulster. Elizabeth was
the wife of Prince Lionel, the third son of Edward III.
Chaucer was in King Edward s army during early parts of the Hundred Years War in 1359.
Unfortunately he was captured during an unsuccessful siege of Rheims. Luckily the king contributed
to his ransom. By 1366, Chaucer married Philippa Pan, who was another courtier that attended the

Chaucer is generally considered the father of English poetry, and The Canterbury Tales has been
required reading for countless students over the generations. The influence of his work on generations
of English language writers is undisputed. Some critics have worried that such wide and shallow
exposure of the reading public to Chaucer s work has diluted full appreciation for his complex
contribution to literature. Critic Derek Traversi says, The appreciation of Geoffrey Chaucer has
suffered a good deal in the past from his reputation as the Father of English poetry. It has been easy to
think of him as a naif, the possessor of a charming simplicity of outlook which tends to convey itself,
for a modern reader, through language considered picturesque or simply childish, alternately quaint or
redolent of innocence for readers who think of themselves as more sophisticated and more
psychologically complex. However, this view is not correct, Traversi argues: His early poems show
him engaged in exploring the possibilities of the English language as an instrument for sophisticated
literary creation. As poet William Blake put it, over four hundred years after the book s first
publication: Of Chaucer s characters, as described in his Canterbury Tales, some of the names are
altered by Time, but the Characters themselves for ever remain unaltered and consequently they are

One important thing that I learnt from this skill is that sometimes you might not need to speak a lot or
try to speak all the time, but the important thing is that you should try to see which actor shares the
same opinion as you and whether that actor is strong enough to act on your behalf. This was really
obvious in the activity of multilateral negotiations on negotiating intervention in a civil conflict where
I played Iraq. I found that Iraq shared a lot in common with the Arab states, especially Iran on the
Syrian issues. Balancing interests in the negotiation through the Arab countries helped Iraq protect its
interests. Without speaking much, but allying very well with Iran and balancing the interests with the
Arab states, it turned out that I gained the highest score in my group.
However, there was one thing I found quite unrealistic about this activity. That was the rule on
unanimous agreement. I do not think this can be applied in the real world situation. I think that it
would be better if we do not need to stick on this. The unanimous rule made some players concede too
much, and that did not reflect real international negotiations. The role play on Six party talks was both
fun and useful. This role play gave me a chance to practice more skills on negotiation and chairing.
This activity really showed the difficulties of negotiations on issues that are really critical to national
survival. The North Korean issue was very

Homo Habilis Essay
Homo Habilis
Hominids with a brain absolutely and relatively larger than that of the australopithecines appeared
about 2.3 million years ago. These hominids are classified in our own genus: Homo. The earliest
species to appear was the Homo Habilis. It was the first of our ancestors to show a significant increase
in brain size and also the first to be found associated with stone tools. These characteristics resulted in
this species placement into the human genus, Homo.

Dental microwear studies suggest that the diet of H. habilis was flexible and versatile and that they
were capable of eating a broad range of foods, including some tougher foods like leaves, woody

consume or specialize in eating hard foods like brittle nuts or seeds, dried meat, or very hard tubers.
They also were scroungers who even ate dead animals that they found left by other larger predators.
Surviving and Toolmaking
Homo is a Latin word meaning human or man . The word habilis is based on a Latin word meaning
handy or skilful . This species is known as handy man because stone tools were found near its fossil
remains and it is assumed this species had developed the ability to modify stone into tools.
Homo habilis is thought to have mastered the Lower Paleolithic Olduwan tool set which used stone
flakes. These stone flakes were more advanced than any tools previously used, and gave H. habilis the
edge it needed to prosper in hostile environments previously too formidable for primates.
By a method called direct percussion, a core stone called a biface was hit with a hammer stone to
produce flakes. The biface was made into choppers called the Oldawan pebble

Many individuals crave and feel the need to be loved by others so they go looking for it whether it be
from spouse, relative, or friend ultimately everybody wants love. Love can be the most beautiful thing
in the world but love can also make one do crazy things. In Toni Morrison s Beloved, many different
love filled relationships are presented. There are family relationships between siblings, and
relationships between mother and children. There are relationships between adults in various sorts.
The relationships Sethe had with her children is crazy at first glance, and still then some after. Sethe
being a slave did not want to see her children who she loved go through what she herself had to do.
Sethe did not want her children to have their animal characteristics, so when the bounty hunter came
looking for Sethe and her children the love she had for them forced Sethe to do unthinkable things to
her children. Sethe attempted to murder all of her children to avoid them being placed back into
slavery. In her attempt only one actually died which was her first born Daughter Beloved. Though
Sethe tried to murder each of her children Toni shows that Sethe was very remorseful and that could
not properly function after the death of beloved. Sethe could not feed baby Denver correctly and even
got into a fight with Baby Suggs because she fed Denver with Beloved blood still on her. Sethe even
went as far as sleeping with the Headstone engraver to get a tombstone for her child. Sethe deeply felt
death was better than slavery which is why even though she loved her children she crazily attempted
to murder them. Similar to the theme of love unity is also a major theme in

cruelty unite to determine the fate of society. Julia Alvarez s In the Time of Butterflies illuminates the

Having connections to one another increases the desire to fight, which also increases the chances of
winning a revolution. This can be seen when peasants and the Bourgeoisie of the Third Estate of
France unite and break away from the Estates General to form the National Assembly. The National
Assembly would not have formed and if the peasants and the Bourgeoisie did not collaborate on their
thoughts of being the least privileged amongst the other two estates. Similarly Maria Teresa, leaving
her friends from prison, assures herself that the connection will continue. It does not go away because

Just because one leaves a situation, it does not mean one leaves forever. Maria Teresa understands the

especially drunk and against an opponent who was bigger and stronger than him. But strength was not
always the winner in these things, a little cunning always helped, and that s what Holt hoped to adopt.
They took their positions, hands interlocking. Tiber Grist grinned crookedly at his challenger.
Immediately Vildar s arm was driven back. Holt watched as his muscles locked taking the strain. Veins
in his arms and temples bulged, threatening to burst as he tried to force the stronger Gnomes arm
back. But it was no use, sweat beaded his forehead and eyes popping with the ... Show more content

He cracked his knuckles. Very well, but I warn you, I am not very good at this.
Tiber Grist eyed him, deciding whether to believe him or not.
Holt had lied. In fact, he was very good at this. Eldon and himself often arm wrestled for fun, and like
Grist, Eldon was bigger and stronger than him.
But he did not need to win. For this plan to work. He needed to lose.
He took the strain, forcing the other Gnomes arm backwards. He might mean to lose the game but it
did not mean he was going to make it easy for Grist.
Holt continued to force the arm back. A look of startled surprise crossed Tiber Grist s features. A bead
of sweat ran down his face and dripped off the nose ring.
Slowly Holt released the pressure. Not enough to cause suspicion, just enough to let Grist think he was
gaining the upper hand.
Around them the other Gnome s bayed and chanted, slapping their hands and beer jugs on the wooden
benches.
Gradually Grist wrestled Holt s arm back until it was inches above the tabletop. Holt held it there,
showing the strain on his face. Then he let it go. Tiber Grist grinned in triumph. Well done, for a
moment there I thought you had me.
Lucky, I guess, Holt

  • 2. Wasted Time In High School Emily Sellers Composition 1301 332 Mrs. Kinkead 24 September 2017 Wasted time in High School Public high schools tend to waste a lot of time in class doing things that aren t related to school at all. It has been reported that in many schools, teachers make students do chores for them for extra credit points, while others are learning new things. Jay Mathews wrote A startling waste of precious classroom time, published in 2014 in the Washington Post, and he argues that so much time is wasted in low income schools due to teachers and it makes it very difficult for students to learn in that environment. Mathews begins to establish pathos by stating the names of two girls that go to Compton High School and want to learn, but their school is unable to give them the education they desire. Mathews established ethos a little later in his article by stating facts about programs he has encountered with inner city schools; however, toward the end of his article, he uses facts to establish logos, which is the appeal of logic, while stating that schools have been sued because low income students have not been given the right education. Mathews explains that Wasting time is common in the nation s low income schools. Class schedules can be a mess at the beginning of the year, forcing students to wait days in the library for their assignments (Mathews). Mathews establishes ethos through stating the facts of wasted time in low income schools. Mathews states that at Compton High ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Poetry as a Reflection of The Inner Being Alfred Tennyson gifted the Victorian Era, and the literary world with two iconic poems. The author explored the themes of personal development and culture clash in one of his most famous poems, Ulysses . Tennyson also discovered and analyzed the themes of love and death through his renowned and eminent poem, Tears Idle, Tears . The poet was born in Somersby, Lincolnshire in 1809 in the East Lindy district of England. Tennyson experienced numerous amounts of difficulties in his childhood and growing adolescent phases that spilled into his adult life. These trials and tribulations became a foundation and source of inspiration for Tennyson, who used them as a stimulus and catalyst to aide his literary progress and ideas. Two of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thirdly, although Tennyson was engaged to Emily Sell wood...the condition of his health resulted in their separation (Napierkowski and Rose 273). The poet is unable to maintain relationships even with his fiancé, which drives him to dissect the ideas of love and death in his poems. But the negative brought a sliver of positive, without the anguish at the loss of a friend, Tennyson would have never written...his greatest poem (Padgett 93). This validates that the author s life experiences contributed to his writings, and were implanted into his tone, themes, words and stylistic decisions. His characters can also be seen as a mirror reflection of Tennyson s deeper and underlying being. Overall Tennyson was a perfect mold to the ideals and thoughts of society in the Victorian Era. He opposed the new scientific knowledge that created a drift from traditionalism. He was rooted in the old style, organic beliefs that the Victorian era was ferociously trying to preserve, as new technology and scientific inventions and theories were being developed. The Victorian era was characterized by many qualities such as smugness, narrow mindedness, bourgeoisie, materialism, faith in social progress and priggish morality (Galens 380). Society maintained a sense of pride and confidence in themselves. These ideals can be witnessed in Tennyson s poems which are a ...typical example of Victorian smugness (Bloom 20). A sense of smugness is also paralleled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Oil Embargo By The Organization Of Petroleum Exporting... Oil embargo in 1973 by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Companies (OPEC) focuses attention on the energy crisis and results in increased demand for coal as a preferred alternative to oil in the United States Europe, and much of the rest of the world [Speight 2013]. At that time there were a large number of oil power plants in the world which had suddenly become very expensive to operate led to the introduction of larger coal fired power plants [Jeffs 2010]. While Middle East countries which has the largest proven reserves of crude oil; fuel oil as well as crude oil are an available and economically feasible fuel in power and water desalination plants (Fig 1). For example, Saudi Arabia which has the largest known oil reserves in the world, consume annually more than 40 million tons of crude oil and heavy fuel oil [Husain and Ahmad 2015] in both sea water desalination and power plants. The produced ashes were collected using electrostatic precipitators installed in the major facilities and dispose into landfills. While Egypt consume annually approximately 7 million tons of heavy fuel oil in electric power plants to generate electricity, generation more than 4000 metric tons of oil ashes [Mohammed et al 2016]. All the Egyptian power plants are not fitted with electrostatic precipitators and situated in the densely populated region. In addition, most of the ashes are not used for anything but landfill. • 5. Critical Appreciation Of Robert Frost s Poetry Poetry in the purest form comes from an author that is writing from his or her own life experiences and Robert Frost did just that. In three words I can sum up everything I ve learned about life: it goes on. Frost uttered these words in remark to how he coped with his troubled life. He dealt with heaps of loss throughout his lifetime which led to him expressing his innermost thoughts and feelings through poetry. Robert Frost s poetry was influenced by his depression that came from the many trials he went through during his life, the different places he lived and the many poets he befriended. Frost dealt with depression caused by onerous circumstances in his life and these circumstances profoundly influenced his writing. When Robert was eleven years old he lost his father which forced his family to move away from their home and try to cope with their lost. This was just the first of many loved ones who would pass away during his life. Once he got married his first born son died at the age of four to an illness, his second born committed suicide at the age of thirty eight, his third child developed a mental illness and his last child died in her early twenties during childbirth. He went on to also lose his wife to heart attack in 1938 and he was forced to commit his sister into a mental institution in 1920. After all the loved ones he lost he plunged into a state of depression which translated into his tone of writing in some of his most famous poems. My Butterfly, the first ... • 9. Roe vs Wade In 1973, the Supreme Court made a decision in one of the most controversial cases in history, the case of Roe v. Wade (410 U.S. 113 (1973)), in which abortion was legalized and state anti abortion statues were struck down for being unconstitutional. This essay will provide a brief history and analysis of the issues of this case for both the woman s rights and the states interest in the matter. Also, this essay will address the basis for the court ruling in Roe s favor and the effects this decision has had on subsequent cases involving a woman s right to choose abortion in the United States. The court s decision created legal precedent for several subsequent abortion restriction cases and has led to the development of legislation to protect women s health rights. Although the Supreme Court s decision in Roe v. Wade was a historic victory for women s rights, it is still an extremely controversial subject today and continues to be challenged by various groups. Roe v. Wade Case Law Analysis Before 1973, abortion access was determined by state legislature for each individual state with no consistency across the United States. Some states allowed abortions but most state statues heavily restricted or completely banned abortion. The restricted states would generally only allow abortion in the event of rape, incest, fetal anomalies, or the woman s life is at risk. As explained in this chapter, an essential part of the ethical practice is to discuss the rights that clients have before starting the session. This is beneficial for clients as they become autonomous of their decisions, and for counselors because they can avoid ethical complaints from their clients. Providing an informed consent document to clients is one of the most important ways of respecting their rights. This document clarifies the boundaries within the sessions, provides general information about the therapeutic process, the benefits and risks of receiving therapy, and informs the client about his/her right of confidentiality, including its limitations and exceptions. • 12. Lily Owens Character Analysis Lily Owens is a teenage girl who wishes her life was different. At the age of four Lily s mother died after being shot. Everyday she wishes her mother would be there to protect her from an abusive father and a miserable life. Lily s mother left very few possessions behind, only a picture and a mason jar. These items allowed Lily to feel safe. The memory of her mother helped her face each trial. She spent much of her life searching for a mother figure and recreating her mother s story. Lily longed for love and attention, something her father and caregiver, Rosaleen couldn t seem to give her. The reality was that Lily lived in a time that segregation was intact and John Fitzgerald Kennedy was trying to launch rockets to the moon. The author used symbolism, for example space, to show the lost nature of Lily s character. Fourteen and my life went spinning off into a whole new orbit (1). Lost in thought, Lily always was thinking about what would happen if her mother was around. She was forced to follow her father s orders or she would be hit or shoved. This made her want to create as much distance between her and her father as possible. On the back of her mother s picture it said Tiburon, South Carolina. Maybe in Tiburon she could have a better life and bring her closer to her mother? Lily and Rosaleen hatched a plan to escape. As they left town they were confronted by a group of white men. This such loyalty is shared with the acclaimed literary hero Beowulf, who ultimately offers his life in a fierce battle with the dragon for his people. The manner in which Gawain then faces the trials set forth by the Green Knight also demonstrates the strict moral code of sir Gawain; that of the chivalrous knight. His dedication to his code of chivalry is no more evident than in his encounters with the lady of Bertilak s castle; while she incessantly makes advances toward Gawain in his bedchamber, he summons his willpower each time to maintain his code of chivalry and refuse her while remaining courteous. Blekner asserts the moral struggle that Gawain faces in this scene, stating that We are always aware that the real threat is not so much the considerable sexual attractiveness of the lady s flesh as the young hero s fear of not living up to his worldy reputation for cortaysye (Blekner 367). The seduction scene not only illustrates Gawain s heroism through his manner and courtesy towards Bertilak s wife, but also the humanity in his flaws that makes him a true hero. Textual Analysis Towards a better and cleaner textile industry [Textual Analysis] Written Assignment 4 This assignment is through an analysis of appeal forms, speech acts, move structures, text functions, text types and relevant rhetorical strategies going to determine the genre and purpose of the text Towards a better and cleaner textile industry , which was posted on Novozymes website on March 30, 2011. Appeal Forms The text consists of a number of logical arguments that promote the use of enzymes in the textile industry, which means the dominating appeal form is logos. This is supported by the use of numbers (l. 1 3), scientific terms as polycarboxylates, enzymes and molecule and the reference to the special trial method; LCA (l. 18 23). This ... This is supported by the common known subject i.e. that Novozymes produces enzymes and the use of both logos and ethos appeal. In addition, the move structure more specifically follows the news report move structure as it uses the inverted pyramid, where the most important information is in the beginning. The moves are: Event (l. 1 3), then interpretation (l.4 8) followed by background (l. 10 15), details of the event (l. 17 23), background (25 42) and at last comments from people involved (l. 42 43). As the text comes from Novozymes, it would though be characterized as a press release which often bears resemblance to the news report move structure. Though as mentioned in the paragraph about appeal forms, the use of ethos indicates that the text is not only made for an informative purpose. Text Functions At first sight, the function of the text is the informative text function, as it seeks to express something about the referent. This is supported by the dominant use of logos appeal, representative speech acts and the move structure being press release. Though, as the commissive speech act and indirect directive speech acts are also present, there is evidence that the text also has an indirect directive text function as it tries to affect the receiver to use enzymes. In combination with the use of ethos, this indicates that the text has a character of argumentation. Text Types As stated above ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Immature Morphology In the oocyte and early embryo, mitochondria possess a round morphology with only a few cristae that are parallel to the outer mitochondrial membrane and an electron dense mitochondrial matrix. These immature mitochondria are usually around 1 µm in diameter during the early cleavage stages (Motta et al., 2000). This is different from mitochondria found in somatic cells as somatic cell mitochondria have an elongated morphology that contain numerous transverse cristae (Xu et al., 2013). Somatic cells also metabolize most of their energy substrates through OXPHOS for the production of energy. Metabolism of early pig embryos has been discussed in the previous section. These early cleavage stage embryos metabolize very little glucose through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rhodamine is a lipophilic, cationic dye that accumulates in the mitochondrial matrix because of its charge and solubility in both the inner mitochondrial membrane and matrix space (Scaduto and Grotyohann, 1999). The major limitation for using rhodamine 123 is that when the membrane potential is lost the rhodamine 123 no longer accumulates in the mitochondria so there is no signal. MitoTracker probes label mitochondria similarly to rhodamine 123; however, MitoTracker is also chemically reactive and links to thiol groups in the mitochondria (Chazotte, 2011). Since it is linked to the thiol groups MitoTracker maintains its location and fluorescence intensity after fixation. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) can be used to determine changes in mitochondria morphology. This technology gives an intricate snapshot of the mitochondria s location within the cell, the overall morphology, the number and of density of the cristae, and membranes at a specific time point. This morphological information provides an indication of both mitochondrial and cellular function, and metabolism. However, TEM allows for only a limited number of samples to be ... • 30. Geoffrey Chaucer Research Paper This is a story about an author with an unfinished story that survived the passage of time. I will be discussing the life, the works, and the impact of Geoffrey Chaucer. Geoffrey Chaucer was born in 1340, London, England. He is the son of John and Agnes de Copton Chaucer. Chaucer s family were wine merchants. Chaucer s first job was as a page for Elizabeth, the countess of Ulster. Elizabeth was the wife of Prince Lionel, the third son of Edward III. Chaucer was in King Edward s army during early parts of the Hundred Years War in 1359. Unfortunately he was captured during an unsuccessful siege of Rheims. Chaucer is generally considered the father of English poetry, and The Canterbury Tales has been required reading for countless students over the generations. The influence of his work on generations of English language writers is undisputed. Some critics have worried that such wide and shallow exposure of the reading public to Chaucer s work has diluted full appreciation for his complex contribution to literature. Critic Derek Traversi says, The appreciation of Geoffrey Chaucer has suffered a good deal in the past from his reputation as the Father of English poetry. It has been easy to think of him as a naif, the possessor of a charming simplicity of outlook which tends to convey itself, for a modern reader, through language considered picturesque or simply childish, alternately quaint or redolent of innocence for readers who think of themselves as more sophisticated and more psychologically complex. However, this view is not correct, Traversi argues: His early poems show him engaged in exploring the possibilities of the English language as an instrument for sophisticated literary creation. As poet William Blake put it, over four hundred years after the book s first publication: Of Chaucer s characters, as described in his Canterbury Tales, some of the names are altered by Time, but the Characters themselves for ever remain unaltered and consequently they are the Physiognomies or lineaments of ... One important thing that I learnt from this skill is that sometimes you might not need to speak a lot or try to speak all the time, but the important thing is that you should try to see which actor shares the same opinion as you and whether that actor is strong enough to act on your behalf. This was really obvious in the activity of multilateral negotiations on negotiating intervention in a civil conflict where I played Iraq. I found that Iraq shared a lot in common with the Arab states, especially Iran on the Syrian issues. Balancing interests in the negotiation through the Arab countries helped Iraq protect its interests. Without speaking much, but allying very well with Iran and balancing the interests with the Arab states, it turned out that I gained the highest score in my group. However, there was one thing I found quite unrealistic about this activity. That was the rule on unanimous agreement. I do not think this can be applied in the real world situation. I think that it would be better if we do not need to stick on this. The unanimous rule made some players concede too much, and that did not reflect real international negotiations. The role play on Six party talks was both fun and useful. This role play gave me a chance to practice more skills on negotiation and chairing. Homo habilis is thought to have mastered the Lower Paleolithic Olduwan tool set which used stone flakes. These stone flakes were more advanced than any tools previously used, and gave H. habilis the edge it needed to prosper in hostile environments previously too formidable for primates. By a method called direct percussion, a core stone called a biface was hit with a hammer stone to produce flakes. The biface was made into choppers called the Oldawan pebble ...
