Compare And Contrast Lao And Confucianism
Contrast Essay on Confucianism and Taoism Every individual has his or her own understanding
of life. The understanding each individual possesses is occasionally expanded off of a religious
belief or philosophy. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a philosophy is a particular set
of ideas about knowledge, truth, the nature and meaning of life . Once people start reading about
multiple philosophies, there is a high probability that the philosophical ideas will have similar or
opposing views. Confucianismand Taoism are two philosophies which were developed and
continue to have a major influence on the people of Eastern Asia. Even though the two
philosophies were developed in the same region of the world and around the same time, they have
two completely different philosophical viewpoints about life. Both Confucius and Lao Tzu worried
about the deterioration of society and quality of human life. Their theories however, have... Show

In Leslie Stevenson, David L. Haberman, and Peter Matthews Wright s book Twelve Theories of
Human Nature; the authors state that Confucius avoided metaphysics and emphasized humanism.
Confucius stressed human conduct over God, stating You are not able to serve man. How can you
serve the spirits? (Stevenson, Haberman and Wright 19). Confucianism stressed the moral goodness
of the human beings as a major factor resulting in happiness. Lao Tzu is the founder of the
philosophy commonly known as, Taoism. In John Koller s article Daoism: The Daodejing; Koller
claims the primary goal of the Taoist teachings is to be one with nature. Taoism emphasizes the
relation of humanity with nature and how if one follows the natural Way, Dao; he or she will find
peace and contentment. In contrast to Confucianism, Daoist teachings exclaimed that harmony and
perfection of the natural way of things are the major factors producing happiness (Koller

Lancelot ( The Knight Of The Cart, And Perceval
The stories of Lancelot (The Knight of the Cart) and Perceval (The Story of the Grail) within
ChrГ©tien de Troyes Arthurian Romances depict a world of Medieval Romance that is
somewhat different from one that was depicted in earlier epics. These romances are more focused
on the battle between love and honor rather than on war and valor, which were depicted in earlier
epics of de Troyes time. The tale of Lancelot follows a star struck knight who undergoes an inner
conflict between both the lover and hero inside him. His intense commitment to rescuing the queen
causes him to make rash decisions which inevitably restrain him from controlling his own fate.
Perceval s story exhibits a different purpose for lovein a knight s life. Unlike Lancelot, he accepts
love only when he believes it can further advance him in becoming the perfect knight. The two
heroes actions showcase an inner conflict between maintaining their honor as knights and the love
for another. Through these two tales, ChrГ©tien de Troyes shows that that idealistic love and
conscious chivalry cannot necessarily successfully coexist, yet it is the unachievable idealistic view
that these two ideals do coexist.
In The Knight of the Cart, Lancelot sets out to rescue Queen Guinevere, who he has fallen in love
with and has been captured by King Arthur s enemy, Meleagant. He is first mentioned after he is
found by Gawain, another Knight of the Round Table. Lancelot convinces Gawain to lend him one
of his horses so that

Mao Zedong Of The Communist Party Of China
In the 1960 s the Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Zedong feared that China
would move too far in a revisionist direction with an emphasis on expertise rather than on
ideological purity as the Soviet model was doing. In response Mao gathered a group of radicals
such as Defense Minister Lin Biaoto help him attack current party leadership to reassert the
authority he had lost during the recent economic crisis and the Great Leap Forward. In 1966, Mao
launched the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution(1966 1976). The goal of the movement was to
purify Chinese society by upholdling only true Communist ideology. This was an attempt to
revive the revolutionary spirit that had led to victory in the civil war decades earlier and the
formation of the People s Republic of China. Mao claimed that bourgeois foundations had
infiltrated the government and society with the intentions of restoring capitalism. Mao believed
that the current Communist leaders were guiding China in the wrong direction and as a result he
called the nation s youth to purge capitalist and traditional fundamentals from Chinese society and
re impose Maoist thought in their place. This lead to a violet class struggle, as China s youth
responded to Mao s call by forming Red Guard groups around the country. The movement was soon
amplified to a class struggle on all fronts as it spread into the military, the urban workers and even
the Communist Party leadership. President Liu Shaoqiand other Communist

Causes Of Jim Crow Laws
During the time period of 1877 1954 a set of laws called the Jim Crow laws were put in motion.
They were laws that made segregation in schools and public places legal. No white person or
African American could be doing anything together at anytime. These laws were against all of the
African Americans living in the southern states of the United States. I believe the main cause of this
conflict was to segregate the African Americans away from whites, just as if they were still
slaves. White people thought that they weren t the same as them just because of their race,
color of their skin, or culture and therefore shouldn t be treated the same. On April 12th, 1861,
the Civil War started. The main purpose of this war was to either end slavery or to keep it,
depending on what side you were on (according to ferris.edu). People in the South wanted
slavery to keep going, but the people in the North wanted to end it. After 620,000 casualties and
four years of severe and cruel fighting the war ended. There was no more slavery, the North had
won. If the South had won the war there would probably still be slavery, so they wouldn t have to
make the Jim Crow Laws. This was the most important factor for the laws. With them losing the
war, now the people of the South had political, economical and cultural reasons for these laws. Due
to the fact that the South lost the war, there slaves were now free and now had political freedom.
Now the African Americans could run for political

Analysis of Real Housewives of Atlanta
Since the beginning of time itself, Television has been one the most influential pieces of media that
the world has ever encountered. The beginning days of television depicted stereotypical mothers
cooking and cleaning their homes for their husbands and children. Yet, as the decades passed,
television took a dramatic turn, leaving the days of drama free entertainment as a vast memory.
Now a day, however, when one hits the power on button to Bravo, the screen lights expand to ritzy
socialites dealing with their everyday lives as housewives . Bravo TV s hit number one reality
televisionshow, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, deals with the everyday lives of modern day

It was so bad it actually made the Kardashian s oeuvre look like Emmy winning material. The
women seem to always have some type of complication in their hands. The husbands let their
wives do whatever they feel like engaging in, and the children are spoiled brats who have
complete liberty. Occasionally, this type of scenario is not seen, however, especially when
speaking about newest housewife and former model, Cynthia Baily. Cynthia is the only housewife
on the series that has no obscure drama that involves futile, petty less girl fights. For the rest of the
southern women, unfortunately, drama is their way of life. Images of the housewives are
excessively pictured on the internet. Bravotv.com has pages full of group photographs of the
women in their exotic southern outfits, sparking smiles and diva personas. Pictured on the first
page is a photograph from Bravotv.com, featuring the cast of The Housewives of Atlanta. It is
intriguing to note that this portrait has been cropped together as one unit. In reality, however, each
woman is a picture in its self that the producers of the show pushed together to appear as one
photograph. Each woman is given certain characteristics to make them, in turn, an actual character
on a show. Characters are needed so that the viewer s cans stereotype each woman, thus providing
a cast of characters. This provides an array of misconceptions of who these women

You saw the mannequin blink. You watched it for another hour. At least that is what you thought.

now. This really bothered you when the manager said that everyone was staring at you in the
store. This was embarrassing. You wished the store would have closed five hours ago, then the store
manager said it did.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder In Othello
The Case of Iago and His Mental Disorder
Overreacting, focusing on power, and jealousy is something everyone experiences at least once
in his or her life, and it is not a reason to suspect a mental illness. However, when one constantly
overreacts, demands attention, and is envious of others, it may be a cause for concern, especially
when he or she has been acting that way all his or her life or just recently as becoming an adult.
When reading the drama Othello, without even realizing it, the reader s brain forms an opinion
about the characters within the tragedy based on their actions and words. Shakespeare uses the
actions of his characters to enhance the plot and emphasize tragedy surrounding the life of his main
character, Othello. All through the text, the journal Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders (DSM) is quoted on its description of the known mental disorders throughout the world
that helps the doctor diagnose a patient. The DSM defines narcissistic personality disorder as a
pattern of grandiosity, a need of admiration, and having an absence of empathy. A personal
disorder can present itself as a big issue or as subtle traits that can go undiagnosed for decades and
when diagnosed correctly can explain many odd things the patient has done throughout his life.
According to the DSM, a person diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) has to
exhibit five or more of the symptoms presented. Obsessing over power, ideal love, and brilliance

BMF Media Internship Report
Before beginning this internship at BMF media, I came up with two different evaluation
proposals. These were certain ways to prove that I accomplished my goals. My first evaluation was
in terms of my goal that was to participate and plan an event to tell a story for the client. The
tangible evidence I stated that I would submit will be documentation of the process of planning the
event along with photos and outcomes of the event through social media.
My second evaluation was connected to my goal of connecting and working with specific
influencers on a personal level. I said that my tangible evidence would include documentation of
meetings along with emails and notes for the steps of the project that we were working on with a
client. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have multiple case studies that I have proofread, started on my own, or just added photos and
summaries to. A case studywas something we had to create for the client before and after an
event. This would also help us in knowing what is best for the future and what went wrong
during the event. Before the event we would have a case study that consisted of digital pictures
and examples of what the venue would look like, and then the one after the event that would
have pictures of the event, the food and possibly review of the events. Another piece of
documentation was the big project I worked on throughout all 3 months at my internship. This
was an excel sheet of about 2,000 brands, throughout my weeks at BMF I searched for the right
personal contacts for these brands so we could reach out to them. Some other evidence I have is
notes that I had to take from every call that I sat in on with clients. I also have some power points
of venue options; this is a PowerPoint for events that we had to look for the perfect venue. These
included multiple venues with many photos and descriptions of the venue. In terms of reports and
output, I have email responses from work I have done to show that my work was appreciated as
well as reference letter that I will receive

Thinking, Fractions And Decimals Are Extremely Important...
Multiplicative thinking, fractions and decimals are extremely important areas of mathematics
children are required to develop. The concepts within these three areas are related and it is critical
for educators to support these relationships in the classroom. Multiplicative thinking involves recall
of basic facts, the relationship between multiplicationand divisionand underpins the development
of fractions. Comprehension of fractions includes the division of objects, fractions as numbers,
the multiple ways equal fractions can be represented, as well as being represented as decimals.
Place value is a very important underpinning concept of decimals. Place value aids the ability to
read, write and work with decimals. There are a numberof difficulties children can come across
when developing these concepts and relationships. With a vast mathematical content knowledge
and pedagogical content knowledge educators can provide effective instruction to help children
over come their difficulties. Developing a deep understanding of multiplicative thinking, fractions
and decimals will assist children in later mathematics.
To become a multiplicative thinker the ability to recall basic multiplication facts and understanding
of the relationship between multiplication and division must be developed. If children do not
develop the ability to recall basic multiplication facts they can be in danger of developing negative
feelings towards mathematics and becoming withdrawn (Booker, Bond,

Analysis Of The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin
In the United States, all citizens are entitled to a freedom of choice, under which they may choose
their beliefs and ideals. Unfortunately, with this freedom , people lose their sense of truth and
reality, and must rely upon the ideals of times past and present to ground themselves in this world.
The Fire Next Time, written by James Baldwin, examines this issue in Down At The
Cross , an account of the author s experience with founding his reality on religion and with his
continuing struggles with race and society. In this religious record, Baldwin discusses how he
finds a home in religion and how he spends the majority of his life in his religious career, both of
which offer a sense of safety for his lost soul. Consequently, he then describes his mistake for
trusting religion to act as his foundation as he then learns the stupefying truth of his God s
negligence, how his God takes no action to save Baldwin s people from the depths of society.
Therefore, in order to prevent the reader from resorting to the same alternative, Baldwin intends
to persuade the reader to not base their reality upon the beliefs of others or of a denomination, but
solely upon the facts of life which stand before them. He hopes to discourage the reader by
informing of the horror and the harrowing pain he experiences with having his world shaken to the
foundation. Baldwin achieves this by accentuating the shock of his realization about religion and
his God, showing the reader how this affects him as a means of persuasion.
Perrott !2
In order for Baldwin to convince the reader (to not base their reality in the beliefs of others) (is
this necessary to keep?), he elaborates upon the lurid realizations of his God and of his faith, which
changes his and the reader s perception of religion for the remainder of the book.
Since these feelings are particularly strong for Baldwin, he mirrors his experience with strong
emotional language to bring life into the story and accentuate the importance of the event, which
grasps the reader s attention as well as their interest. Baldwin exemplifies this strategy when he
illustrates the severity of his emotions at the realization of his God s negligence. Baldwin describes
his agony:

The Interaction Of Glucose And Exercise. The Objective
The Interaction of Glucose and Exercise The objective of this study was to see whether or not
exercise has an influence on glucose levels; If it does, then how much does it affect the levels?
What is the reason that outcome came about? These are just some of the questions that this study
hoped to provoke and shed some light on. Before beginning the experiment, a literature review
was conducted in order to gain familiarity with the topic and to build an expectation for the
outcome. Several studies were research, and it was cited how exercise can be used to help
regulate glucose in people with diabetes. The first study found that 2 3 minutes of maximum

All glucose levels in this experiment were obtained using a ReliOn Prime glucose meter and the
corresponding strips. The initial baselines were taken before eating breakfast and before drinking
any juice, coffee, milk, or water. Time of measurement ranged from 8:00AM 8:20 AM. After
obtaining a baseline test, Вѕ cup of oatmeal with 2T brown sugar and 1T of butter was eaten for
breakfast. Coffee with approximately 2t of half and half was drank at the same time. Breakfast
was done being consumed between 8:40AM 8:50AM. Blood glucose levels were then tested
two hours after breakfast, which fell between 10:40 10:50AM. Again, this exact schedule was
followed for each day a baseline was formed. The graph above illustrates the daily baselines and
changes. The preprandial average blood glucose level was 95 mg/dL . Postprandial, the average
blood glucose level was 109 mg/dL. On an average, the rate of change between the preprandial
levels and the postprandial levels was 14 mg/dL. This is a normal baseline for someone who
doesn t have diabetes or any other impairment of the pancreas (Joslin, 2007). For the second step
of the experiment, the same procedure as above was repeated. Except, before eating, twenty
minutes of light exercise ( LE ) was performed. Glucose levels were taken before, ten minutes
through, and after the twenty minutes was reached. Light exercise can vary from arm curls, brisk
walking, jogging, or walking stairs. For this particular study,

Futura Is A Sans Serif Typeface
Futura is a sans serif typeface. It is classified as geometric, meaning that the looks of the
letterforms are based on geometric shapes. The bowls of the letters are almost perfect circles
and the peaks of some letters such as W s and uppercase A s create triangles. This gives the
letterforms a very simple look that can be broken down into just a few key elements. For
example, letters such as the lowercase d and b are made up of a circle and str¬aight, vertical
line on one side, and letters such as the uppercase T are simply made up of two perfectly straight
lines one horizontal and one vertical, with the vertical line extending directly below the center of
the horizontal line. The lowercase t changes things up a bit with the fact that the two lines are
off centered. Instead of being directly in the center like the uppercase, the vertical line is
positioned slightly to the left. The lowercase f mimics this as well. There are 22 different
typefaces that make up the Futura family. These include regular, light, light, book, medium,
semibold, bold, extrabold, black, italic, condensed, oblique, display, and inline. The weight of the
strokes is near even which results in little to no contrast. It has a tall x height making it easier to
read even at small sizes. The lowercase letters are actually taller than their uppercase counterparts,
with the ascenders rising rise above the cap height line. Some of the capitals form sharp points (as

Emotional Analysis Of KFC
Commercial analyze KFC
I have chosen to analyze an old commercial from KFC. I do not know from which year the

fast food and more specific fried chicken. In the commercial there is no obvious slogan, but they

The target audience for the commercial is Housewives and their family. The commercial needs to
get attention from people in general because they are the people that is supposed to eat the fried

line is also an emotional argument, they want the audience to feel the feeling when they do not got

I do not think that the commercial objectify anyone. Because objectifying is when you use a
person as an object instead of a person, which is not shown in the commercial. Stereotypes is
something that is used in the commercial. That the housewives got the responsibility for the

Miranda vs. Arizona:
This case had to do with an Ernest Miranda who raped a Patty McGee*. After extracting a written
confession from the rapist about the situation, Miranda s lawyer argued that it was not valid since
the Phoenix Police Department failed to read Miranda his rights, also in violation of the Sixth
Amendment which is the right to counsel. Some factors that helped support Miranda s arguments
were that the suspect had requested and been denied an opportunity to consult with a lawyer; the
suspect had not been effectively warned about his right to remain silent; and an incriminating
statement must have been given by the suspect. The author of the Arizona court s decision, former

Flynn to no end. The last man to present a position in the case before the court was Thurgood

U.S. government.
Once the arguments were done, there was nothing left to do but wait as the justices debated the
issue among themselves and issued a written opinion, probably in four or five months. The
traditional process called for the justices to listen to oral arguments on Monday through Thursday,
then to take preliminary votes and assign opinion authorships during a private meeting again
attended only by the justices on Friday. Based on the political makeup of the Supreme Court in the
spring of 1966, it was widely speculated that a majority would come down in some form on the
side of Ernest Miranda.

The Vaccine Of Autism Connection
The Vaccine to Autism Connection
It is amazing how much Americans trust doctors and more shocking, vaccines. Vaccines are
injections we receive from the moment we are born and throughout our lives that are meant to
keep our bodies from contracting various. A baby born in a hospital today can be given up to six
shots before the mother is even in a place where she can conciously tell the doctor whether she is
okay with that or not. It can take years to become aware of, but the early exposure to the unnatural
substances that make up vaccines can lead to a disorder called autism. While many
Americans view vaccines positively for their adequate ability to prevent illness, the rise of autism
in the nation and its link to vaccines is reason enough to try to change our tactics for trying to stay
healthy.
Autism is a developmental disorder with symptoms including defects in coordination and motor
skills, visual disturbances, and immune suppression. What researchers like Larry Trivieri

Descriptive Essay On Gymnastics
Gymnastics was a big part of my life and I was very excited when I got my first complicated skill it
had taken me about 2 years to get the skill. It was Saturday and my day started off by eating some
breakfast, my mom had made pancakes and bacon and they were delicious. I finished off my
breakfast and my dad told me to go get ready because we were going to run some errands and so I
did, I picked out this red shirt with free shoulder it was kind of big on me so, it looked like a dress
but I liked it that way, to go with the long red shirt. I picked out some black tights because they
seemed comfy. On my hair, I did a half up half down with a bun at the top and I got my favorite
brown sandals and put them on. Before my familyleft I had to do my bed, because my dad said, if I
kept my room clean all year I would be able to get a new phone, I cleaned my bed and rushed out
the door. When my family and I were in the car, my dad started singing and I was cringing so
hard but, I didn t tell him anything because that would be rude. We stopped at Winco to get
groceries. My brother was excited because whenever we went to the grocery store he would get
a bar of candy. This time it wasn t any different, we bought the food and went to pay my job was
always to put the groceries into the bags which is fun. We headed into the car and my parents
loaded the groceries into the trunk. We started driving into the mall, so I could buy some shorts for
summer, because all I had were pants. We

Comparing Picasso And Van Gogh
In this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting artists Pablo Picasso and Van Gogh, considering
their intentions with their artwork. Van Gogh and Picasso two of the most famous artists out there
and still are to this day. Uncountable books have been published and dedicated to them and their
lives and careers of being true artist. Their art has changed the way people view things and the
world around them.
Vincent van Gogh was one of many artists who self taught himself, who transformed the appearance
of Post Impressionism incessantly. His main focuses were his paintings, which he mostly painted in
oil mediums. In his time, he has produced lot of paintings, most of which were of cityscapes, figure
and landscape scenery. Unlike Pablo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The painting shows five women naked with flat figures, disintegrated planes and faces, inspired
by African masks. The compacted space the figures occupy appears to project forward in jagged
shards; a fiercely pointed slice of melon in the still life of fruit at the bottom of the composition
teeters on an impossibly upturned table top. In this painting, Picasso makes a radical departure
from traditional European painting by adaptation of Primitivism and abandonment of perspective in
goodwill of a level two dimensional picture of a plane.
On the other hand, Vincent van Gogh did not do any cubism work during his time as an artist,
however, had more of an interest in drawing. Pablo Picasso had an interest in drawing too, but
unlike his work, Vincent van Gogh s drawings are appreciated without the need for bright
colours, drawings such as his depiction of figures, light and landscape. Van Gogh drew using a
lot of different media, such as chalks, red pen and charcoal, although he often mixed mediums as
well when it came to drawing. He drew on not just paper, but a variety of paper types, and
materials. However, Van Gogh s methods of drawing are very different to Pablo Picasso s.
Pablo Picasso s way of drawing can be seen as very different and rather similar at the same time
compared to Vincent Van Gogh s method. Drawing allowed van Gogh to capture light and images
more quickly than with painting and

The Jim Crow Era
For as long as humanity has existed, equality has been an evident, non disappearing struggle for
individuals all around the world. This is relevant in terms of gender, nationality, and race, especially
including the differences in skin color. The Jim Crow Era, which occurred during the nineteenth
and twentieth centuries, can be depicted as one of the worst time periods in terms of equality. After
the American Civil War, most of the American southern states have passed several laws that denied
the rights of African Americancitizens, which have been the target of discrimination for reasons
none other than things that they can not control in their lives, such as their race, skin color, wealth,
and origin. When people speak of Jim Crow, they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, since the Black community had no rights, it is crucial to understand that citizens did not
have any freedom of speech in their daily lives. If they did speak up against the norms of society
during the Jim Crow Era, there ultimately were consequences that could lead to their deaths. The
Klu Klux Klan, often referred to as the KKK, is the most infamous of the groups dedicated to
discrimination of African Americans. The goal of the Klu Klux Klan was to restore and maintain
white supremacy in the South during the Jim Crow Era. Their actions included riots and violently
attacking black citizens at night. Despite their restrictions on freedom of speech, several individuals
have rose to the occasion to make attempts on improving the rights of African Americans during the
Jim Crow Era. These individuals include Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Malcolm X.
The Black community had suffered roughly for many years due to the segregation and
discrimination during the Jim Crow Era, and has shaped the society today, however, there is still

The Socialization Process Of Children
Through the socialization process, children learn gender roles at birth. In our society today, we
buy boy infants blue and girls infants pink. We even apply these color coded gender labels while a
baby is still in the womb. Gender socialization occurs through four categories: family, education,
peer groups, and mass media. Each category reinforces genderroles by creating and maintaining the
norm expectations for gender specific behavior. At an early age, children have an understanding
that there are distinct expectations for them based off of their gender. Studies show that children
are very much conscious of what gender roles are and how their role is supposedly portrayed by the
age two or three; at four or five, most children are appropriately displaying their specific gender role
(Kane, 1996). Most boys are given toy car, guns and action figures, all toys that promote
aggression and introverted playtime. Girls are often given dolls and dress up apparel that foster
nurturing, social closeness, and role play. These gender roles will continue on throughout their life.
Thus creating a barrier for women and men, predominantly women to have to try to break through.
Always facing scrutiny if they step outside of the gender specific spectrums society has set for them.
Law enforcement, military, and politics are usually predominantly occupied by men although
women tend to outnumber men in care related occupations like childcare, healthcare, and social
work. These occupational

The Prostitution Industry Essay
The Prostitution Industry
A prostitute is defined by the Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary as a person who offers
herself / himself for sexual intercourse for money. Legally, prostitution is the sale of sexual
services. The services may consist of any sexual acts, including those which do not involve
copulation. While payment may be any nonsexual consideration, most commonly it is in the form
of money.
In what seems to be a world historical pattern, an upsurge in prostitution followed the effects of
urbanization and wage labor. In Africa and Latin America this trend was heightened by industrial
development, which greatly accelerated extensive displacement of people from traditional kinship
ties. Women often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Abolition is a view that prostitution is immoral and prostitutes and their clients should be
prosecuted. This view calls for the complete removal of all prostitution activity within a community,
and making all associated activities illegal in the eyes of the law.
Regulation, on the other hand, allows prostitution to be considered a legitimate business or at least
an unavoidable evil; thus prostitution and empowerment of prostitutes are legal, but regulated in
terms of health, location of practice, etc.
Legalization sees prostitution as a victimless crime and should be made completely legal so that it
is no longer an underground activity, allowing the normal checks and balances of society and
existing laws to apply.
Decriminalization acknowledges that prostitution is inevitable, but exploitative; thus measures
should be put in place to protect prostitutes i.e. laws should target violent pimps and traffickers but
not the prostitutes.
UTILITARIAN VS DEONTOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES ON PROSTITUTION
Utilitarianism seeks the greatest good for the greatest number of people. They believe that they
should make decisions that result in the greatest total utility, that is, achieve the greatest benefit for
all those affected by a decision. Utilitarian decision making relies on a systematic comparison of
the costs and benefits to all affected parties. (Ferrel et al: 2005, p.98)
In the case of prostitution, a utilitarian would conduct a

Little Miss Sunshine Film Analysis Essay
The film Little Miss Sunshine, Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Farris, explores the lives
of a regular American family and how they change their lives in front of us in the Combie van on
the road to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. The film examines the issues of winning and
losing, and what it means to be a winner, throughout many sequences in the film as well as
exploring the value of family. The directors and the cinematic team use an extreme range of camera
techniques, costuming, and sound techniques to reshape our understanding of winning and losing
in the world we live in today. Firstly the directors and their team use a variety of different camera

When all the competitors are introduced on stage we see Olive is far out of place just through
her basic average costuming, compared to the other girls who are dressed like little Barbie
dolls, with glittery clothes and excessive make up. Even though Olive is out of place and
obviously doesn t belong in the competition, she still reflects Grandpa s view on classifying
winners and losers which was introduced before he died. Grandpa believes that a real loser is
someone who is so afraid of not winning they don t even try. Through the costuming and Olives
actions the directors implant that view of winning and losing into the audience, which then
reflects on our world today, as we need to show more support, not for the winners of a
competition, but the courage people have developed to enter a competition. The Final key
technique which is employed by the cinematic team of Little Miss Sunshine is the use of sound.
Throughout the film there is an evident mixture of diegetic and non diegetic sounds. In the scene
were Frank and Dwayne are out on the pier, starts with a non diegetic voice over from the Little
Miss Sunshine pageant saying America, it s so beautiful . These words introduce the scene as the
diegetic sounds of nature at the beach take over and remind us of nature s healing presence as we
then see the first real bonding between Frank and Dwayne. The directors have chosen to use

One main decision was to kill, keep tied up, or let go three Afghan villagers. There was an
elderly man, teenage boy, and a child. They were unarmed shepherds, but the teenage boy was

directions. They had to jump off three ledges breaking several bones causing harm to their
bodies and their rifles. Before jumping off the third cliff, Danny Dietz got shot in the butt which
caused him to fall off of Marcus Luttrells back. This caused Danny to get caught up top of the
cliff and get murdered by the Taliban using his own riffle. Danny was the first fatality to Seal
Team 10. Mark Murphy tried to climb to the top of the cliff again to get service for the sat phone.
When he got to the top of the cliff he got shot multiple times in the back making him the second

There are still many challenges that are hindering the future development in globalized trade.
Environmental issues, energy demands and issues in the supply chain field are just a few of these
challenges. An example of the energy issue would be the ongoing fluctuations in energy costs.
Freight and air transportation both depend on petroleum. Typically, the times of higher energy
prices creates a rationalization in the international trade market and the underlying supply chains.
Many the global policies and guidelines in the European Union rest within each member s state.
Due to this, the effectiveness of the European Union guidance relies on the willingness of member
states to adopt the policy. One of the greatest outcomes of the European Union applying and

Decision Making Approaches
I Introduction
A job for a leader is to make decisions. Most managers or executives have to engage in some aspect
of decision making including coming up with ideas, evaluative alternatives, or implementing
directives (Brousseau et al., 2006). However, it could be a critical issue for decision makers to build
up proper decisions in various situations. Hence, how to adopt suitable technique in decision
making processes is a significant text for them. This essay firstly is going to discuss the benefits of
automated decision making due to improvement of technology, such as effective quality and
services. Yet, abundant limitations including environmental changes and professional shortages
will be illustrated in the next part. Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the thinking mode, executives can make decisions that are broadly defined and consist of
multiple courses of action (Brousseau et al., 2006).
Successful managers in organisations are more analytic in their style while they progress in their
jobs (Brousseau et al., 2006). Further, Elbanna and Child (2007) prove that rationality has a positive
relationship with organisational outcomes.
Nonetheless, some constraints of rational decision making process should be pointed out. Firstly, in
Brousseau et al. (2006) study, significant differences of global management culture are
demonstrated. For instance, Americans stand apart in using a flexible thinking style more and more
when they progress in their position, but the situation is reversed in Latin America. Thus, global
management should be aware of differences in culture. Moreover, real life decision making makes
more sense than people think because so much of it is beyond conscious thinking (Mintzberg and
Westley, 2001).
Intuition
To date, researchers have emphasised rational decision making processes rather than intuitive
processes (Elbanna and Child, 2007). However, all the data or information in the world cannot
trump the valuable experiences from lifetime that informs one s gut instinct, feeling as well as
intuition (Matzler et al., 2007). Dane and Pratt (2007) also state that intuition comes from

What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Telling a...
What are the advantages and disadvantages of telling stories using moving images?
The overall objective and purpose of telling a story is to engage with the audience to convey the
meaning of a plot and create a human connection on an emotional level (Batty p292). Stories can
be told in a variety of ways, and the method by which a story/narrative is told determines the way in
which we connect and interact with it emotionally. Each mode of story telling is capable of
presenting the same story in different ways. Humans are capable of both understanding and
interpreting the different content and style associated with different modes of story telling.
For the purpose of this essay I contend that a moving image is one that is viewed upon a ... Show

Without the presence of any dialogue a feeling can be created by the way the camera moves and
reveals what is on screen. Whether this be a pan across the screen, a slow or fast zoom in or out,
a certain perspective shot or a point of view. The way the camera moves, allows the audience to
feel a sense of involvement as if they are part of the action because of the accompanying movement
of the eye following what is happening on screen (Ganz p228).
As Bubb states technology now offers speed and fluidity (p370). In story telling this relates to the
pace at which the information is understood and also the structure in which the information is
presented. When using moving images to tell a story the control over space and time that the
storyteller has is very different to that when telling a story using the written or spoken word. The
film Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino demonstrates the notion of being able to control and
manipulate the relation between space and time very well. It is a film with a complex narrative that
has a non linear structure, where a combination of interlinked stories are told out of order, yet the
flow of the narrative still runs smoothly and keeps the audience in suspense. The irregular pattern in
the film where it fluctuates and jumps from scene to scene shows a combination of images that are
discontinuous moments, rendered continuous (Ganz 2010 p 229). We have the knowledge that
these moments clearly can not

Portia In Romeo And Juliet
Shakespeare uses the character, Portia, to display that even when you do love someone you do
not always have full trust in them. Portia, despite her love for Bassanio, tested the loyalty and
trustworthiness of her husband. She dosesn t know if she can fully trust him to keep the vows and
the promises he made, in marrying her and to the ring of their love, in his time of trouble. When
Bassanio leaves to try to save Antoniofrom his debt, Portiabegins to talk to Nerissa and hatching a
plan: Come on, Nerissa; I have work in hand / That you yet know not of: we ll see our husbands
/ Before they think of us. (3.4. 50 61) Through this passage, we see it s clear that Portia does not
have complete trust in her husband. She makes a secret plan with

Philosophies of Meditations by Marcus Aurelius Essay...
Marcus Aurelius
Even today, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is read by every class from kings to common people.
The book is a universal classic, meaning it can be related to at any time, by anyone. The
philosophies included in his book have spanned the centuries, and Meditations remains to be one of
the most influential books ever written.
Marcus Aurelius was born on April 20, 121 AD into a family of royalty. His uncle and adoptive
father, Antoninus Pius, was the emperor of Rome. Aurelius, too, was trained from birth to be a
great ruler like his father. At age eleven, he dedicated himself to religion, although he considered
philosophy to be the true, inward religion, one which did not require ceremonies necessary in others.

He also tried to humanize criminal laws, and have masters treat there slaves in a humane way. After
Aurelius, Romans would miss such fair treatment.
#9;After nineteen years of ruling Rome, Marcus Aurelius died on March 17, 180 in Vindobona,
which is currently Vienna. He died of a plague while in the middle of yet another war to defend
the territory of Rome. Aurelius was succeeded by his son, Commodus, who was the polar
opposite of his father. Commodus was a corrupt and evil ruler. Apparently, his father was never
aware of this fact, for Commodus fooled him into believing they were of the same mind when it
came to ruling. Commodus was the first of the bad emperors to Aurelius last of the good emperors.
This lack of an able ruler cemented the descent of the Roman empire.
#9;Throughout his life, Aurelius was never able to be happy being an emperor. Even though he
had money and privileges, and was royalty, he never became tranquil, or at peace with himself,
with these material riches. It is evident when a person reads Meditations that Aurelius would
much rather have lived the quite life of a philosopher than the public life of an emperor. He
always wished that, at some point in his life, maybe when the wars were over, he would have some
time to actively pursue philosophy. He never received that opportunity. However, he did, in the
midst of all the wars he fought in, find the time to write down his thoughts into a

The Wine And Beer Making Process Essay
If you ve read my About page then you know this blog is about delving into the wine and beer
making process. If you haven t then I invite to learn more about me and my blog. But before we
delve into the technicalities of making wine I wanted to share some interesting facts I have learned
about red wine. There are numerous varieties of red winebut there are only four popular types:
Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Merlot.
Cabernet Sauvignon
The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is a small thick skinned, blue purple grape with lots of seeds in
proportion to its size(A 150). There are two main reasons that Cabernet Sauvignon continues to
thrill our palates and table. The first is its ability to adapt to the soil and climate. The second is
its ability to resist plant viruses and diseases (B 38). Two significant sites for Cabernet
Sauvignon are Bordeaux, France and Napa Valley, California (A 152). In France, the ancient
gravel of Bordeaux holds heat, which allows the vines to stay warm while at the same time
preventing the vine from truly thriving. It is the barely surviving that makes the flavor, so
intense and produces the highly sought after fruit (A 152). In California s Napa Valley it is the
ability of the rocky and volcanic soil of the alluvial (fan??) to hold water and nutrients, which
creates the signature flavor (A 153). When it comes to bottling Cabernet Sauvignon it is rarely
bottled alone. In Bordeaux it is usually part of a team of red grapes that includes either

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Lao And Confucianism Contrast Essay on Confucianism and Taoism Every individual has his or her own understanding of life. The understanding each individual possesses is occasionally expanded off of a religious belief or philosophy. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a philosophy is a particular set of ideas about knowledge, truth, the nature and meaning of life . Once people start reading about multiple philosophies, there is a high probability that the philosophical ideas will have similar or opposing views. Confucianismand Taoism are two philosophies which were developed and continue to have a major influence on the people of Eastern Asia. Even though the two philosophies were developed in the same region of the world and around the same time, they have two completely different philosophical viewpoints about life. Both Confucius and Lao Tzu worried about the deterioration of society and quality of human life. Their theories however, have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Leslie Stevenson, David L. Haberman, and Peter Matthews Wright s book Twelve Theories of Human Nature; the authors state that Confucius avoided metaphysics and emphasized humanism. Confucius stressed human conduct over God, stating You are not able to serve man. How can you serve the spirits? (Stevenson, Haberman and Wright 19). Confucianism stressed the moral goodness of the human beings as a major factor resulting in happiness. Lao Tzu is the founder of the philosophy commonly known as, Taoism. In John Koller s article Daoism: The Daodejing; Koller claims the primary goal of the Taoist teachings is to be one with nature. Taoism emphasizes the relation of humanity with nature and how if one follows the natural Way, Dao; he or she will find peace and contentment. In contrast to Confucianism, Daoist teachings exclaimed that harmony and perfection of the natural way of things are the major factors producing happiness (Koller ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lancelot ( The Knight Of The Cart, And Perceval The stories of Lancelot (The Knight of the Cart) and Perceval (The Story of the Grail) within ChrГ©tien de Troyes Arthurian Romances depict a world of Medieval Romance that is somewhat different from one that was depicted in earlier epics. These romances are more focused on the battle between love and honor rather than on war and valor, which were depicted in earlier epics of de Troyes time. The tale of Lancelot follows a star struck knight who undergoes an inner conflict between both the lover and hero inside him. His intense commitment to rescuing the queen causes him to make rash decisions which inevitably restrain him from controlling his own fate. Perceval s story exhibits a different purpose for lovein a knight s life. Unlike Lancelot, he accepts love only when he believes it can further advance him in becoming the perfect knight. The two heroes actions showcase an inner conflict between maintaining their honor as knights and the love for another. Through these two tales, ChrГ©tien de Troyes shows that that idealistic love and conscious chivalry cannot necessarily successfully coexist, yet it is the unachievable idealistic view that these two ideals do coexist. In The Knight of the Cart, Lancelot sets out to rescue Queen Guinevere, who he has fallen in love with and has been captured by King Arthur s enemy, Meleagant. He is first mentioned after he is found by Gawain, another Knight of the Round Table. Lancelot convinces Gawain to lend him one of his horses so that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mao Zedong Of The Communist Party Of China In the 1960 s the Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Zedong feared that China would move too far in a revisionist direction with an emphasis on expertise rather than on ideological purity as the Soviet model was doing. In response Mao gathered a group of radicals such as Defense Minister Lin Biaoto help him attack current party leadership to reassert the authority he had lost during the recent economic crisis and the Great Leap Forward. In 1966, Mao launched the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution(1966 1976). The goal of the movement was to purify Chinese society by upholdling only true Communist ideology. This was an attempt to revive the revolutionary spirit that had led to victory in the civil war decades earlier and the formation of the People s Republic of China. Mao claimed that bourgeois foundations had infiltrated the government and society with the intentions of restoring capitalism. Mao believed that the current Communist leaders were guiding China in the wrong direction and as a result he called the nation s youth to purge capitalist and traditional fundamentals from Chinese society and re impose Maoist thought in their place. This lead to a violet class struggle, as China s youth responded to Mao s call by forming Red Guard groups around the country. The movement was soon amplified to a class struggle on all fronts as it spread into the military, the urban workers and even the Communist Party leadership. • 5. Causes Of Jim Crow Laws During the time period of 1877 1954 a set of laws called the Jim Crow laws were put in motion. They were laws that made segregation in schools and public places legal. No white person or African American could be doing anything together at anytime. These laws were against all of the African Americans living in the southern states of the United States. I believe the main cause of this conflict was to segregate the African Americans away from whites, just as if they were still slaves. White people thought that they weren t the same as them just because of their race, color of their skin, or culture and therefore shouldn t be treated the same. On April 12th, 1861, the Civil War started. The main purpose of this war was to either end slavery or to keep it, depending on what side you were on (according to ferris.edu). People in the South wanted slavery to keep going, but the people in the North wanted to end it. After 620,000 casualties and four years of severe and cruel fighting the war ended. There was no more slavery, the North had won. If the South had won the war there would probably still be slavery, so they wouldn t have to make the Jim Crow Laws. This was the most important factor for the laws. With them losing the war, now the people of the South had political, economical and cultural reasons for these laws. Narcissistic Personality Disorder In Othello The Case of Iago and His Mental Disorder Overreacting, focusing on power, and jealousy is something everyone experiences at least once in his or her life, and it is not a reason to suspect a mental illness. However, when one constantly overreacts, demands attention, and is envious of others, it may be a cause for concern, especially when he or she has been acting that way all his or her life or just recently as becoming an adult. When reading the drama Othello, without even realizing it, the reader s brain forms an opinion about the characters within the tragedy based on their actions and words. Shakespeare uses the actions of his characters to enhance the plot and emphasize tragedy surrounding the life of his main character, Othello. All through the text, the journal Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is quoted on its description of the known mental disorders throughout the world that helps the doctor diagnose a patient. The DSM defines narcissistic personality disorder as a pattern of grandiosity, a need of admiration, and having an absence of empathy. A personal disorder can present itself as a big issue or as subtle traits that can go undiagnosed for decades and when diagnosed correctly can explain many odd things the patient has done throughout his life. • 11. Analysis Of The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin In the United States, all citizens are entitled to a freedom of choice, under which they may choose their beliefs and ideals. Unfortunately, with this freedom , people lose their sense of truth and reality, and must rely upon the ideals of times past and present to ground themselves in this world. The Fire Next Time, written by James Baldwin, examines this issue in Down At The Cross , an account of the author s experience with founding his reality on religion and with his continuing struggles with race and society. In this religious record, Baldwin discusses how he finds a home in religion and how he spends the majority of his life in his religious career, both of which offer a sense of safety for his lost soul. Consequently, he then describes his mistake for trusting religion to act as his foundation as he then learns the stupefying truth of his God s negligence, how his God takes no action to save Baldwin s people from the depths of society. Therefore, in order to prevent the reader from resorting to the same alternative, Baldwin intends to persuade the reader to not base their reality upon the beliefs of others or of a denomination, but solely upon the facts of life which stand before them. He hopes to discourage the reader by informing of the horror and the harrowing pain he experiences with having his world shaken to the foundation. Baldwin achieves this by accentuating the shock of his realization about religion and his God, showing the reader how this affects him as a means of persuasion. Perrott !2 In order for Baldwin to convince the reader (to not base their reality in the beliefs of others) (is this necessary to keep?), he elaborates upon the lurid realizations of his God and of his faith, which changes his and the reader s perception of religion for the remainder of the book. Since these feelings are particularly strong for Baldwin, he mirrors his experience with strong emotional language to bring life into the story and accentuate the importance of the event, which grasps the reader s attention as well as their interest. Baldwin exemplifies this strategy when he illustrates the severity of his emotions at the realization of his God s negligence. Baldwin describes his agony: ...and naturally, ... • 13. Futura Is A Sans Serif Typeface Futura is a sans serif typeface. It is classified as geometric, meaning that the looks of the letterforms are based on geometric shapes. The bowls of the letters are almost perfect circles and the peaks of some letters such as W s and uppercase A s create triangles. This gives the letterforms a very simple look that can be broken down into just a few key elements. For example, letters such as the lowercase d and b are made up of a circle and strВ¬aight, vertical line on one side, and letters such as the uppercase T are simply made up of two perfectly straight lines one horizontal and one vertical, with the vertical line extending directly below the center of the horizontal line. The lowercase t changes things up a bit with the fact that the two lines are off centered. Instead of being directly in the center like the uppercase, the vertical line is positioned slightly to the left. The lowercase f mimics this as well. There are 22 different typefaces that make up the Futura family. These include regular, light, light, book, medium, semibold, bold, extrabold, black, italic, condensed, oblique, display, and inline. The weight of the strokes is near even which results in little to no contrast. It has a tall x height making it easier to read even at small sizes. Autism is a developmental disorder with symptoms including defects in coordination and motor skills, visual disturbances, and immune suppression. What researchers like Larry Trivieri Jr. have realized over the last decade is these symptoms are extremely similar to the effects of mercury poisoning. Van Gogh and Picasso two of the most famous artists out there and still are to this day. Uncountable books have been published and dedicated to them and their lives and careers of being true artist. Their art has changed the way people view things and the world around them. Vincent van Gogh was one of many artists who self taught himself, who transformed the appearance of Post Impressionism incessantly. In this painting, Picasso makes a radical departure from traditional European painting by adaptation of Primitivism and abandonment of perspective in goodwill of a level two dimensional picture of a plane. On the other hand, Vincent van Gogh did not do any cubism work during his time as an artist, however, had more of an interest in drawing. Pablo Picasso had an interest in drawing too, but unlike his work, Vincent van Gogh s drawings are appreciated without the need for bright colours, drawings such as his depiction of figures, light and landscape. Van Gogh drew using a lot of different media, such as chalks, red pen and charcoal, although he often mixed mediums as well when it came to drawing. He drew on not just paper, but a variety of paper types, and materials. However, Van Gogh s methods of drawing are very different to Pablo Picasso s. Marconi and Tesla were the top two people in the picture through the time that the radio was being improved. They worked out the problems that stopped them from being at the top of their careers, and could have made the radio better than what they got it to be in the 1920. Tesla was one who really looked in the future with the radio and how far that it could progress. Marconi could see where the problems were needed to be fixed and improvements to the radio that was not seen by Tesla. This is why they could have been a good team but they were too busy trying to see who was going to be the best and who was going to get to the top first. Eventually they began helping each other to make the radio work and broadcast all over the world. They were able to show their talent with what can be done to the radio. • 28. The Socialization Process Of Children Through the socialization process, children learn gender roles at birth. In our society today, we buy boy infants blue and girls infants pink. We even apply these color coded gender labels while a baby is still in the womb. Gender socialization occurs through four categories: family, education, peer groups, and mass media. Each category reinforces genderroles by creating and maintaining the norm expectations for gender specific behavior. At an early age, children have an understanding that there are distinct expectations for them based off of their gender. Studies show that children are very much conscious of what gender roles are and how their role is supposedly portrayed by the age two or three; at four or five, most children are appropriately displaying their specific gender role (Kane, 1996). Most boys are given toy car, guns and action figures, all toys that promote aggression and introverted playtime. Girls are often given dolls and dress up apparel that foster nurturing, social closeness, and role play. These gender roles will continue on throughout their life. Thus creating a barrier for women and men, predominantly women to have to try to break through. Always facing scrutiny if they step outside of the gender specific spectrums society has set for them. Law enforcement, military, and politics are usually predominantly occupied by men although women tend to outnumber men in care related occupations like childcare, healthcare, and social work. • 29. The Prostitution Industry Essay The Prostitution Industry A prostitute is defined by the Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary as a person who offers herself / himself for sexual intercourse for money. Legally, prostitution is the sale of sexual services. The services may consist of any sexual acts, including those which do not involve copulation. While payment may be any nonsexual consideration, most commonly it is in the form of money. In what seems to be a world historical pattern, an upsurge in prostitution followed the effects of urbanization and wage labor. In Africa and Latin America this trend was heightened by industrial development, which greatly accelerated extensive displacement of people from traditional kinship ties. Women often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Abolition is a view that prostitution is immoral and prostitutes and their clients should be prosecuted. This view calls for the complete removal of all prostitution activity within a community, and making all associated activities illegal in the eyes of the law. Regulation, on the other hand, allows prostitution to be considered a legitimate business or at least an unavoidable evil; thus prostitution and empowerment of prostitutes are legal, but regulated in terms of health, location of practice, etc. Legalization sees prostitution as a victimless crime and should be made completely legal so that it is no longer an underground activity, allowing the normal checks and balances of society and existing laws to apply. Decriminalization acknowledges that prostitution is inevitable, but exploitative; thus measures should be put in place to protect prostitutes i.e. laws should target violent pimps and traffickers but not the prostitutes. UTILITARIAN VS DEONTOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES ON PROSTITUTION Utilitarianism seeks the greatest good for the greatest number of people. They believe that they should make decisions that result in the greatest total utility, that is, achieve the greatest benefit for all those affected by a decision. Utilitarian decision making relies on a systematic comparison of the costs and benefits to all affected parties. Little Miss Sunshine Film Analysis Essay The film Little Miss Sunshine, Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Farris, explores the lives of a regular American family and how they change their lives in front of us in the Combie van on the road to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. The film examines the issues of winning and losing, and what it means to be a winner, throughout many sequences in the film as well as exploring the value of family. The directors and the cinematic team use an extreme range of camera techniques, costuming, and sound techniques to reshape our understanding of winning and losing in the world we live in today. When all the competitors are introduced on stage we see Olive is far out of place just through her basic average costuming, compared to the other girls who are dressed like little Barbie dolls, with glittery clothes and excessive make up. Even though Olive is out of place and obviously doesn t belong in the competition, she still reflects Grandpa s view on classifying winners and losers which was introduced before he died. Grandpa believes that a real loser is someone who is so afraid of not winning they don t even try. Through the costuming and Olives actions the directors implant that view of winning and losing into the audience, which then reflects on our world today, as we need to show more support, not for the winners of a competition, but the courage people have developed to enter a competition. The Final key technique which is employed by the cinematic team of Little Miss Sunshine is the use of sound. Throughout the film there is an evident mixture of diegetic and non diegetic sounds. In the scene were Frank and Dwayne are out on the pier, starts with a non diegetic voice over from the Little Miss Sunshine pageant saying America, it s so beautiful . These words introduce the scene as the diegetic sounds of nature at the beach take over and remind us of nature s healing presence as we then see the first real bonding between Frank and Dwayne. Most managers or executives have to engage in some aspect of decision making including coming up with ideas, evaluative alternatives, or implementing directives (Brousseau et al., 2006). In the thinking mode, executives can make decisions that are broadly defined and consist of multiple courses of action (Brousseau et al., 2006). Successful managers in organisations are more analytic in their style while they progress in their jobs (Brousseau et al., 2006). Further, Elbanna and Child (2007) prove that rationality has a positive relationship with organisational outcomes. Nonetheless, some constraints of rational decision making process should be pointed out. Firstly, in Brousseau et al. (2006) study, significant differences of global management culture are demonstrated. For instance, Americans stand apart in using a flexible thinking style more and more when they progress in their position, but the situation is reversed in Latin America. Thus, global management should be aware of differences in culture. Moreover, real life decision making makes more sense than people think because so much of it is beyond conscious thinking (Mintzberg and Westley, 2001). Intuition To date, researchers have emphasised rational decision making processes rather than intuitive processes (Elbanna and Child, 2007). However, all the data or information in the world cannot trump the valuable experiences from lifetime that informs one s gut instinct, feeling as well as intuition (Matzler et al., 2007). The overall objective and purpose of telling a story is to engage with the audience to convey the meaning of a plot and create a human connection on an emotional level (Batty p292). Stories can be told in a variety of ways, and the method by which a story/narrative is told determines the way in which we connect and interact with it emotionally. Each mode of story telling is capable of presenting the same story in different ways. Humans are capable of both understanding and interpreting the different content and style associated with different modes of story telling. Without the presence of any dialogue a feeling can be created by the way the camera moves and reveals what is on screen. Whether this be a pan across the screen, a slow or fast zoom in or out, a certain perspective shot or a point of view. The way the camera moves, allows the audience to feel a sense of involvement as if they are part of the action because of the accompanying movement of the eye following what is happening on screen (Ganz p228). As Bubb states technology now offers speed and fluidity (p370). In story telling this relates to the pace at which the information is understood and also the structure in which the information is presented. When using moving images to tell a story the control over space and time that the storyteller has is very different to that when telling a story using the written or spoken word. The film Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino demonstrates the notion of being able to control and manipulate the relation between space and time very well. It is a film with a complex narrative that has a non linear structure, where a combination of interlinked stories are told out of order, yet the flow of the narrative still runs smoothly and keeps the audience in suspense. The irregular pattern in the film where it fluctuates and jumps from scene to scene shows a combination of images that are discontinuous moments, rendered continuous (Ganz 2010 p 229). The philosophies included in his book have spanned the centuries, and Meditations remains to be one of the most influential books ever written. Marcus Aurelius was born on April 20, 121 AD into a family of royalty. His uncle and adoptive father, Antoninus Pius, was the emperor of Rome. He died of a plague while in the middle of yet another war to defend the territory of Rome. Aurelius was succeeded by his son, Commodus, who was the polar opposite of his father. Commodus was a corrupt and evil ruler. Apparently, his father was never aware of this fact, for Commodus fooled him into believing they were of the same mind when it came to ruling. This lack of an able ruler cemented the descent of the Roman empire. #9;Throughout his life, Aurelius was never able to be happy being an emperor. If you haven t then I invite to learn more about me and my blog. But before we delve into the technicalities of making wine I wanted to share some interesting facts I have learned about red wine. There are numerous varieties of red winebut there are only four popular types: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is a small thick skinned, blue purple grape with lots of seeds in proportion to its size(A 150). There are two main reasons that Cabernet Sauvignon continues to thrill our palates and table. The first is its ability to adapt to the soil and climate. The second is its ability to resist plant viruses and diseases (B 38). Two significant sites for Cabernet Sauvignon are Bordeaux, France and Napa Valley, California (A 152). In France, the ancient gravel of Bordeaux holds heat, which allows the vines to stay warm while at the same time preventing the vine from truly thriving. It is the barely surviving that makes the flavor, so intense and produces the highly sought after fruit (A 152). In California s Napa Valley it is the ability of the rocky and volcanic soil of the alluvial (fan??) to hold water and nutrients, which creates the signature flavor (A 153). When it comes to bottling Cabernet Sauvignon it is rarely bottled alone. In Bordeaux it is usually part of a team of red grapes that includes either ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
