Hot Springs National Park
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is a museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.
The museum, founded by Alice Walton and designed by Moshe Safdie, officially opened on 11
november 2011. It offers free public admission.
Hot Springs National Park is a United States National park in central Garland County, Arkansas
adjacent to the city of Hot Springs, the county seat. Hot Spring Reservation was initially created
by act of the United States Congress on April 20, 1832 to be preserved for future recreation.
Established before the concept of a national park existed, it was the first time that a piece of land
had been set aside by the federal government to preserve its use as an area for recreation.

The Effects of Burning Carbon Dioxide Essay
The Effects of Burning Carbon Dioxide
The main waste product of fuel we burn is carbon dioxide, which is thought to have been the
main factor in the gradual rise of global temperatures of the last hundred years. The rise is called
Global Warming . The mechanism used to explain the rise in temperature is the greenhouse effect.
Infrared radiation is trapped by atmospheric gases. Sunlight easily passes these gases on it way
into the earth s atmosphere but on its way out the gases reflect the radiation back towards earth.
Therefore as these gases increases the amount of radiation kept in the atmosphere is increased.
Caron dioxide is one of the main green houses gases. Carbon dioxide is a waste product ... Show

He suggests that rather than cutting carbon dioxide emissions, it would be more cost effective to
reduce the amount of sunlight entering the atmosphere by scattering the sun s rays. Fine metallic
nets deployed in the stratosphere should do the trick according to Mr. Teller. This would help slow
or even stop global warming.
Carbon Monoxide:
Carbon monoxide forms during incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. It is extremely hazardous
as things such as gas central heating boilers which are badly maintained can leak the gas causing
carbon monoxide poisoning which would result in death. Carbon monoxide reacts irreversibly with
haemoglobin. In red blood cells haemoglobin normally reacts with oxygen to form
oxyhaemoglobin, which is then transported from our lungs to all our body cells. When carbon
monoxide is breathed in it combines with haemoglobin to form carboxyhaemoglobin where the
oxygen is not released from the haemoglobin therefore causing a lack of oxygen which can result in
death.
The solutions to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning are to give the odorless gas a distinct smell
so that people can smell when there are gas leaks in their appliances. Another solution is to install
carbon monoxide detectors which act in the same way as fire alarms and give off a signal when
they detect carbon monoxide. There are other precautions which can be taken such as maintaining

The Role Of ERNA And Exrna
We have begun to investigate the role of EVs and exRNA in pathogenic fungi, such as Cn. Our
identification of exRNA, including sRNA, mRNA, and lncRNA, may reveal unique RNA
signatures related to the growth and virulence mechanisms of Cn. Towards this goal, we have
performed RNA Seq of exRNA extracted from several Cn var. neoformans (serotype D) strains and
have obtained high quality data.
1a. Identification of novel miRNA. In our preliminary exRNA analysis, we isolated EVs from the
wild type (WT) strain JEC21 and extracted exRNA. exRNA was submitted to the Beijing Genome
Institute (BGI, Shenzhen, China) for cDNA synthesis and RNA Seq. Approximately 100 ng cDNA
was subjected to Illumina deep sequencing using BGISEQ 500 technology. A total... Show more

neoformans genome and some to var. grubii and C. gattii (Cg) (Fig. 2). With this large volume of
high quality data in our possession, we propose the following specific aims. A B Figure 1. VENN
diagram showing lncRNA (A) and mRNA (B) distributions.
Figure 2. Pie chart of annotated extracellular mRNA from Cn var. neoformans (JEC21).
Aim 1 is to select and validate the expression of candidate ex RNAs produced by Cn in vitro.
1a. To select sRNA, mRNA, and lncRNA unique to Cn but not present in mammalian hosts.
Twelve novel miRNAs and 572 novel lncRNA are exRNAs not found in the existing database and
will be subject to expression validation directly. All 12 novel miRNAs will be included. For novel
lncRNAs, annotation will be continuing to identify those containing miRNA precursors whose
targets are functioning in pathways unique to fungi and Cn or/and essential for Cn function.
Approximately ten lncRNAs will be selected for expression validation.
We will perform expression validation of exRNA signatures produced by JEC21, a serotype D
strain and analyze whether these exRNA signatures are also present in other serotype D strains of
Cn, as well as serotype B and C C. gattii strains using RT qPCR. We will isolate exRNAs from
serotype A Cn strain H99 and Cg strains such as R265 (VGIIa) and R272 (VGIIb). The results will
be analyzed to look for common expression profiles of RNA that could serve as molecular

Fdr s New Deal Program
The CCC under his New Deal program, prompted the young males of America the chance to
work and bring in money for their graving families, who were suffering during the Depression.
They were working outside all the time, so it would better their overall physical appearance, but
also their mental health too. FDR used the CCC to get the young men of America to become
manlier. This ties to Teddy Roosevelt s propaganda about America needing to show off their
manliness to the rest of the world. The CCC brought forth a rejuvenation of the all around health
of the participants of the camps. The outdoor work that the workers were put through help
transform their figures. As the Secretary of Labor, she played a role in the conditions of the
workers the New Dealprograms. Also one of the big proprietors for the preservation of forest that
FDR pushed was Guilford Pinchot. The Pennsylvania governor liked and advocated for what
FDR was pushing for what the CCC camps intent was. Roosevelt, before his time as governor in
1912, brought in Pinchot to help boost the popularity of the Roosevelt Jones bill, which put
regulations on deforestation on private lands in New York. Being a student of forestry, helped
Pinchot get his point across with how to implement the conservation of forests. Pinchot s methods
of conservation were based on the timber production and the soil. Many of the CCC camps were
based upon those two things. The people of Wisconsin at the Coon Valley camp were ecstatic

Water Scarcity Due to Disturbance of Ecosystems Essay
Recently, water scarcity is a critical issue that has been increasing human attention. Unfortunately,

Unjust Vs Reverse Discrimination
Life is full of laws, unjust and just. But what makes a law unjust? Is it just discrimination or, could
it be more. People have always been treated differently depending on race, whether you know it or
not there has always been discrimination in our society. We have laws and business practices that
supports discriminationknown and unknown, these laws that unjust laws are practiced on a daily
basis. One way to define an unjust law is one that shows favor to group or another. A philosopher
named Robert k. Fullenwider believes the only way to fix this is not by making new laws in order
to reverse the damage that has been done. On the other hand martin Luther king Jr believes that we
need laws in order to right the wrongs unjust laws of the past.... Show more content on

Fullenwider saw it in another way, in order to fix unjust laws to get rid of all unjust laws. He
started by saying, the way to end discrimination is to not discriminate in reverse but to stop
discrimination. (pg. 271) we are not going to be able to fix a problem by making laws in reverse
to what has already been done. We need to put an end to it all together. By making reverse
discrimination we are not making thing better, we are just sweeping the issue under the rug so
to speak. When we reverse discrimination we just force people to meet a quota . In his paper he
points out that, a company policy not itself is designed to keep blacks out nevertheless, does
exactly that. (pg. 272) Companies do not have policies that say no black allowed. They have
requirements in place that in a roundabout way keeps blacks from getting the job. Some black
person could have had the job if they had the education or recommendations to get the job.
Companies have rules were they know blacks can t meet the requirements because of the way
that our society is set up. To fix discrimination is not about what is seen or what is known
Fullenwider points out that, it is about the nature and sweep of discrimination (pg. 272) if you
only work on a surface level you will only get a surface result. In order to move on from such an
ingrained problem like discrimination you need to get rid of it in all forms. You can t reverse what
has already been done but you can put an end to it cold turkey , stop it in its tracks. One thing that
is being overlooked is that our country was not made for blacks to live happily. The world is built
for giants and of course we don t do well in that world but give us back the world built for us and
see what we can do. (pg. 273) Whites are the giant in our world. The world we live in is a world
that was made to the white race benefit and blacks are just people trying to fit in. The laws are not
what is needed for blacks to fit. In

Is There A, Narcissism Epidemic, Among Contemporary Young...
The issue for the last critique article is, Is there a Narcissism Epidemic among contemporary
young adults? Yes I do believe that there is a narcissism epidemic among young adults. I am a
young adult as we speak, and being a young adult I started to change, and recognize my behavioral

college. Jean M. Twenge argues that The Age of Anxiety

from two meta analyses examining self reports of anxiety and neuroticism. Jean M. Twenge finding

Her suggestion was low social connectedness and environmental threats are responsible for these
changes. I feel as though this is agreeable because I think all college students come to college with
anxiety and neuroticism, and reasons because of low social connectedness, and environmental
threat. Social connectedness model focuses on social exclusion as particularly important to anxiety.
When you exclude that social connectedness, it then becomes a lack of connection in a society, may
produce alienation and feeling of loneliness and despair. Environmental threat connects the same
way. Environmental threat is basically violent crime, the nuclear war, fear of diseases such as
AIDS, and the entrance of women into

Symptoms And Treatment Of Renal Disorders Essay
Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNA) are endogenously produced short non coding regulatory RNAs that can
repress gene expression by posttranscriptional mechanisms. They can therefore influence both
normal and pathological conditions in diverse biological systems. Several miRNAs have been
detected in kidneys where they have been found to be crucial for renal development and normal
physiological functions as well as significant contributors to the pathogenesis of renal disorders
such as diabetic nephropathy, acute kidney injury, lupus nephritis, polycystic kidney disease, and
others due to their effects on key genes involved in these disease processes. miRNAs have also
emerged as novel biomarkers in these renal disorders. Due to increasing evidence of their actions in
various kidney segments, in this mini review, we discuss the functional significance of altered
miRNA expression during the development of renal pathologies and highlight emerging miRNA
based therapeutics and diagnostic strategies for early detection and treatment of kidney diseases.
Introduction microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) are a unique class of short (в€
ј22 nucleotides) single
stranded endogenous noncoding RNAs (7, 8). miRNAs contain nucleotide sequences
complementary to binding sites on the 3′ untranslated regions (3′ UTRs) of protein coding
messenger RNA (mRNA) transcripts. Through direct binding to the mRNA 3′ UTRs, miRNAs
can induce repression of target gene expression (57). Individual miRNAs can often engage

Ap World Cricket Dbq Essay
Cricket is all fun and games and can unite people together, but also break them apart. Cricket
became very popular in South Asia in the late 1800 s, and has played a large role in the life of
these people ever since. India was owned by the British, and in 1947 split in two independent
countries, India and Pakistan. Indiawas predominantly Hindu, while Pakistan was primarily
Muslim. Cricket is a part of their culture, and has greatly affected their lives. Cricket is related to
politics in both negative and positive ways. It creates unity between people of different religions,
but at the same time creates a tension between the two different groups and exemplifies the political
power the British have over everyone else.

Cricket was a very fair and fun sport until a little rivalry came along to create problems. This
rivalry was created when the Quadrangular tournament began and after India was split into two
subcontinents, India and Pakistan. Even the sacred field of sport they would not leave
unmolested. That is why things have become what they are on the cricket field today. That is why
Quadrangular cricket has degenerated into religious rivalry (Doc 7). The quote from an Indian
sports journal mentions that the Quadrangular tournament created a rivalry that was present after
the split. This was because people of different religions were separated into teams and wanted
their main based religion to win. The religion based teams were unfair, I have never understood
the reason for having Hindu, Paris, Muslim, and other religiously based teams. I should have
thought that such unsportsmanlike divisions would be considered taboo in language and sporting
manners (Doc 8). This quote from Ghandi is very reasonable. He s saying that it is unfair to have
religion based teams, because it creates an unhealthy rivalry. It s unsportsmanlike to separate the
teams this way, and would cause the players to not act as a team all the time. When Pakistan wins a
cricket match and my country is defeated, why should Indian Muslims celebrate? Why should they

Most conductors started out as steamboat or coastal packet captains before working a job on the
railroad (Lives on the Railroad). Steamboats and ships were the means of transportation of the time
for passengers and freight until the invention of the railroad. With the expansion of the railroad, one
of the conductor s job responsibilities was to keep the train on schedule (Lives on the Railroad).
The railroad became a popular alternative for freight transportation and for passengers ( Railroad
Conductors 279). The railroad offered a faster convenience for travel. Conductors sold tickets to
passengers and counted the tickets to keep records in order (Lives on the Railroad). Maintaining
proper records was important for business. Also, making a list of the names that the tickets were
sold were important so that one could be found on a train. It was also important for the
conductors to keep the passengers safe from the weather elements and to rushing sparks from the
firebox that helped power the locomotive (Railroad Conductors 279). Most trains had open
windows or no covers on them exposing all of the passengers to all of the rain, snow, or wind.
Today, conductors are responsible for the operation of the train. Conductors are required to have
knowledge of how the train operates including the engine, the cargo, the cars, and the trains signal
systems (Railroad Conductors 279). Having knowledge of the train s controls insures the safety of
the trains passengers and cargo and make sure the train arrives on

Yoga Argument Essay
Yoga is a great exercise for people who want to increase flexibility, reduce stress, get fit, and lead
a more healthy life. Almost anyone can do yoga because it is very gentle which makes it well
suited as an exercise program all throughout life. Many people consider taking yoga but also have
questions on how to get started.
Many people are concerned that they are not flexible enough to do yoga and will never be able to
get into the contortionist poses many people associate with yoga. The truth is that yoga is about
building flexibility, among other things, and you do not need to be super limber to begin yoga.

positive lifestyle changes, you will be able to better manage stress and eliminate the negative
influences in your life that contribute to weight problems.
Many exercise programs have strict rules as to how often you should perform them. While it is
important to give your body time to rest after strenuous activity, the gentle nature of yoga makes
it one type of exercise that you can practice as often as you like. You can start with classes a few
times a week and gradually add more or you can practice everyday at home. If your schedule
allows structured exercise less frequently, you can practice yoga whenever possible and still reap

Adolescence In Irving Washington, The Devil And Tom Walker
Adolescence is a fundamental part of development of characteristics, as youth grow, they indulge
immaturity and naivety. Temptation is a primary initial in Irving Washington, The Devil and Tom

what people give up for money, and in exchange for materialism. Adolescents today foretell the

Deacon Peabody be damned, said the stranger, as I flatter myself he will be, if he does not look

The Constraints Of Language Help Define Our Notion Of Romance
The constraints of language help define our notion of romance, writes Mark Steyn, and in
English we re more constrained than most. There are just four and a half rhymes for love,
approximately three quarters of which offer very meagre possibilities. What is remarkable, in a
way, is that there should be any rhymes at all. If language is differential at its base, if differences
of sound and sense are the only markers of meaning (Norris 24 5), then similarity the relative lack
of difference should, if anything, tend toward meaninglessness. In practice this is not so. [T]hese
chance resemblances of sound and spelling are as ingrained in language as the chance
dissemblances they interact with, and they are easily exploited (or easily tempt those who would
exploit them) to suggest a natural affinity between objects or concepts which logically [possess]
none (Lanham 179). That s why the rhymes with loveproblem is a problem: English has difficulty
talking about love, not because love is not adequately distinguished from other words, but because it
is not adequately associated with them. Stanley Styne s lyric to the song There s No Such Thing
illustrates the peculiar situation of Anglophone love. It contains three of Steyn s four and a half
rhymes,1 and the manner in which it uses them in a way, the fact that it uses them inevitably
undercuts the frank meaning of the song.
The song begins with the assertion that There s no such thing as the next best

Think Like A Freak Analysis
The average person would shy away from being called a freak, but after reading Steven D. Levitt

compliment. I will begin by providing a brief summary of Think Like a Freak. Then, I will apply
the principles shared by this book to nursing practice and management. Finally, I will conclude
with a personal evaluation of the books strengths. Maybe by the end of this report, you too will

19). Think Like a Freak very plainly asserts that as humans we hate admitting we do not know

words to say in the English language are I love you. , they go on to say, We heartily disagree!
For most people, it is much harder to say I don t know. That s a shame, for until you can admit
what you don t yet know, it s virtually impossible to learn what you need to. (Levitt Dubner, 2014,

System is a landmark project and often considered one of the greatest public works projects in
American history by making travel by automobile faster, cheaper, safer and more convenient.
New roads have been a necessity on our country ever since Henry Ford began to produce the

Real Estate Investing Research Paper
To many people, real estate investing sounds like an old man s game. It s not something the
average person gets involved in and it s difficult to do. Well, all of these statements are complete
myths. More people are learning the value of buying and holding on to real estate as an
investment. It is certainly not a venture reserved for old people either. Collegestudents who are wise
with the money, have been known to buy a property and start collecting rental income before they
walk across the stage with their degree. With determination, savvy and wisdom, anyone can and
should invest in real estate. Consider these four reasons:

Once you purchase a property and become a landlord, there will be times that tenants will need
help with maintenance issues, but the income is consistent and reliable. It is one of the most sure
fire businesses to invest in because people will always need a place to stay and call home. Owning
several homes and renting them out to various tenants will allow you to pay off those properties
quickly and then continue to enjoy the cash flow.
3. Builds Assets
It is important to have assets outside of an income from a singular job. When you invest in real
estate, you simultaneously increase your net worth. Net worth is very helpful and important
especially if you are trying to leave a legacy. If you d like to leave money to your children and
grand children, real estate is one of the best ways to do this. They can decide to keep the
properties and continue renting them out for cash flow. Or they can sell the properties for one
large, lump sum and invest that money in another way. It s not always about how much money you
have but it s also about building assets and creating wealth.
4. Tax Benefits
Taxes are one of the main things people hate to pay. However, as a real estate investor, you can

Driving And Drinking And Driving
There are already laws in effect that are not being utilized as well as they could be. Sobriety
checkpoints are effective, but only when they are used. There are also interlock systems that can
be installed in a vehicle when a person has been drinking and driving. However, not every person
that is caught drinking and drivingis required to have this system installed in their vehicle. There
is also an idea that if you are involved in an accident the policeman on the scene can ask to see
your phone and if there is proof that you were on your phone at the time of the accident you will
be at fault. Ralph Hingson, director of the Division of Epidemiology and Prevention Research at
the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse states, Meanwhile, some valuable tools are not being used.
Sobriety checkpoints and effective in reducing drinking and driving if they are publicized, so they
can serve as a deterrent, says Hingson (Kinnerly par 19).
If the legal driving age was raised, seatbelt laws were made the priority, speed limits were
lowered, safety features were mandatory in all vehicles, and laws were enforced there would be
fewer accidents. If these ideas were put into action, imagine what the fatality rates would look
like if the leading causes of fatal accidents were fixed or changed. We could fix what self driving
cars claim they will fix without the self driving car its self, making the need for these cars
unnecessary.

Polio Is Made From The Pigs Of Monkeys
In 1976, Dr. Jonah Salk, creator of the killed virus vaccine used in the 1950s, testified that the
live virus vaccine (used almost exclusively from the 1960s 2000s in the U.S.) was the principle if
not sole cause of all reported polio cases since 1961 in the United States.
Polio is made from the kidneys of monkeys. Mostly, they use wild caught Green Monkeys, the
primate choice for making the polio vaccination. It was discovered that the monkeys had a virus
called SV 40, a simian virus, was rampant in nearly every kidney they had been using to make the
vaccine. It was also discovered that SV 40 was a catalyst for cancer. SV 40 survived the
formaldehyde used to kill microbes. Not only is a person directly injected to become a human ...

PERTUSSISPertussis is described by the NVIC as
Pertussis, commonly referred to as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory disease
caused by the Bordetella (B.) pertussis bacterium. B. pertussis bacteria attach themselves to the
mucus membranes of the respiratory tract and cause inflammation in the body.
The major symptom of B. pertussis whooping cough disease is uncontrollable coughing.
In advanced stages, thick mucous develops in the lungs and clogs air passages, triggering violent
episodes of coughing, choking and vomiting up of mucus followed by a high pitched intake of
breath that sounds like whoop. With whooping cough disease, it is possible to have such violent
coughing spells, especially at night, that large amounts of mucous are vomited up through the
mouth and nose and interfere with breathing.
The B. pertussis bacteria release several toxins, including pertussis toxin (PT) and endotoxin. In
severe cases of whooping cough disease, complications include high fever, brain inflammation,
convulsions, pneumonia and death.
Symptoms of B. pertussis at its onset are similar to the common cold, or an allergy attack with stuffy

Summary Of Salinger s My Strengths
Chapter 1 Left Side Journal My strengths in doing this journal is that I really analyzed every
sentence and I jotted down in question form every change I saw in Salinger s style of writing
and the story s plot in general. I feel that my questions are also a strength in which I cover some
broad aspects and also story specific questions. At this point, I struggled with writing a literary
analysis about how this chapter relates to my life or life because it is only the first chapter and
there are still many confusing points that are left unanswered. In the next text, I was more
mindful of Holden s character development and sees how he grows as a person or try to find out
more about his personality because he did not give a good impression from the first line of the
book. I don t feel sympathetic for Holden when he says he got kicked out of school. I don t feel
this way because he seems like he doesn t even care and what s the point of feeling sympathetic
for someone if they don t even care about their own problems? From class discussion, I learned
that he is in some type of psych ward and this might explain why he transitions from subject to
subject randomly because maybe he has some type of mental illness. Chapter 1 Right Side Journal

mentioning of his parents, what can we infer about his relationship with them? What kind of

are instruments of man s intelligence . It is therefore critical that children develop the ability to
control and coordinate their hand muscle so that these can come into contact with the environment
in intelligent ways. Discuss the principles underlining the practical life exercises and how it fosters
independence in children. Introduction A child in the first six years becomes a full member of her

Within the Montessori classroom deep concentration can be acquired through the Silence Game .
To achieve silence requires effort and the attention of the will, and maximum control of self
consciousness of every movement. Montessori thought of the silence lesson as a means for
bringing children to this higher level of spiritual awareness. Practical Life Exercises aid the child in
his journey towards normalization As a result of learning Practical Life Exercises in the Montessori
environment, the child starts to develop confidence, self esteem, he grow towards independence,
mutual aid and co operation, profound spontaneous concentration, attachment to reality and most
importantly child s joy of learning is supreme. All these help the child to lead towards
normalization. The normalized children possess a unique character and personality not recognized
in young children. Children needs a carefully prepared environment It is important to provide the
child an environment to work on activities of their own choice at their own pace experiencing
freedom and self discipline while developing towards independence. Even though materials in

Maternal Filicide Essay
A child that is murdered by their mother is known as maternal filicide . Children that killed
within their first year of being born is known as infanticide . An infant killed with the first 24
hours of being born is known as neonaticide (Friedman, S., Resnick, P. J. 2007). Unfortunately,
these words exist because there is a history of children being killed by their parents, which yearly
about 450 children intentionally murdered by a parent. Furthermore, FBI homicide data
correlates three out of four child victims are younger than 5. While Northeastern data a large
portion of filicide are from parents that are going through some form of custody battle (Bello,
2014). These statistics makes Susan s case even more unique that her case goes against the
majority or what data suggest. Another case that goes against the norm is Mitchelle Blair who
also committed maternal filicide. She claim she killed her two children, a 13 year old daughter
and 9 year old son. Mitchelle says she killed her children because they were raping her youngest
child (Chuck, 2015). To add to this list Tonya Thomas murdered her four children ages 12,13, 15,
and 17 years old before killing herself (Jennings, Smith, 2012). Julie Schenecker killed her teen
children also which raises the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The foundation of maternal filicide seems to be filled with some form of depression. New
Zealand study found that depressed mothers tend to contemplate the killing of their children for
days to weeks prior to their crimes (Bello, 2014). Data, reports, interviews, and case studies all can
paint a mother that kills their own child differently (Eriksson, Mazerolle, Wortley, Johnson, 2016). I
believe there are three truths correlated to maternal filicide which are unhappiness, stress, and
depression. All three of these factors in some way come together and contribute to a woman

The Importance Of Gentrification Of Indigenous People
The first time an indigenous event occurred can never be accurately described in text. There have
been many incidents where people have been driven out of their homes and out of their property
just because a more civilized group of people have moved in and decided to make it their own
home, there have even been cases of this turning into slavery. This is the exact definition of
gentrification. Is gentrification of indigenous people morally correct? Does it need to be looked
at in order for society to continue moving forward? For example, would society be a better place,
if instead of fixing roads first, we looked to make sure the people ALL felt as if they were being
treated rightfully and fair and equal? To be honest, people of indigenous backgrounds are angry.
Although this can t be said for all of them, there are a few people irritated at the fact that their
ancestors were taken advantage of and that now, in modern time, they are being ignored and set
aside.
For many people of indigenous backgrounds, they have to grow up in a society where their
history isn t talked about and their backgrounds are irrelevant even though their ancestors had as
much to do with the creation of a country as much as the others do. Why is it that indigenous
people never get the credit? It could possibly be the fact that when they were first introduced to the
people who had founded the land, the indigenous people were not as advanced as them. Or it could
also be the fact that

Educational Benefits Of Computer Games
Educational benefits of computer games for kids
Long before computers become common for home use, children from not well up families did not
have access to computers. This means that children did not involve themselves with computers and
computers games too. With computers becoming common not only to offices but homes too,
children are able to access the computer easily and more to it have given up their physical games to
involve themselves with computers games. To this effect, concern have been raised in form of
thesis claiming that children playing computer learning games learn faster and they retain what
they have played.
The above thesis is true to some extent because it is taken like experiments done in higher level
education, the task will be retained in one s head. Likewise when a child plays a learning game
that requires he or she to practice a certain activity for a long time that point will stick to that kind
s mind the same way a student will vividly remember an experiment process carried out in the
laboratory. It is also noted that computer learning games form a part of entertainment. Research
carried out by institute of center for study of children, youth and media indicate that it is easier for
children to remember a movie they had watched sometimes back. Likewise through computer video
games they will remember the game as a video. Through this remembering of that game these
children will be recalling an educational concept.

Whooping Cough And Its Effects On Children
Whooping cough
JennaKay Richardson
Career College of Northern Nevada
Whooping Cough Every year thousands of adults, children, and infants contract a dangerous and
highly contagious bacterial disease. This disease is called pertussis, more commonly known as
whooping cough, and it affects the upper respiratory tract. Pertussis gets the name whooping cough
because of the whoop sound made by those infected with the bacteria. Whooping cough is a disease
that is specific only to humans and has a greater affect on children or those with a weak immune
system. Those who already have a respiratory ailment such as COPD are also at a greater risk. The
CDC states that whooping cough is caused by bacteria known as Bordetella pertussis. These
bacteria attach to a person s cilia, or tiny hairs, that line the upper respiratory tract. They then
release a toxin that causes damage to these cilia as well as swelling to the respiratory tract.
Pertussis is a highly contagious disease that is transferred from person to person. People with
pertussis usually spread the disease by coughing or sneezing while in close contact with others,
who then breathe in the pertussis bacteria. Many infants who get pertussis are infected by older
siblings, parents or caregivers who might not even know they have the disease (Vaccines.gov n.d.).
According to the CDC symptoms of pertussis usually begin to show up within five to ten days after
exposure to the bacteria, but it can take

The Most Ancient Predatory Class Of Arthropods Essay
Scorpions are the most ancient predatory class of arthropods that lived on earth for millions of
years. There have been more than 1,500 species of scorpions identified worldwide and there are
only 25 of them venomous to humans and other organism. Scorpions venom has played a critical
role in their survival due to its exceptional mixture of component which consists of enzymes, short
peptides, simple amino acids and other chemical secreted from the venom glands. These short
peptides (30 80 amino acid) are often identified and known as toxins that the scorpionuse by means
of self protection against other organisms. In recent decades, both medical and therapeutic fields
turn their attention to study scorpions as significant laboratory animals due to their physiological
characteristics. The different toxins produced by the venomous scorpions have opened new horizon
towards using them to either design specific drugs and antibodies or find alternative tools in
identifying a certain disease such as cancer. Although these toxins have different modes of actions
and targets, the majority of them affect the nervous system and are classified as neurotoxins
because they either alter specific ion channel binding and movement across cell membrane or affect
neurotransmitter transmissions in the synaptic cleft. In order to explore closely the different
features of these neurotoxins, a toxin called chlorotoxin will be discussed. Chlorotoxin or (CTX) is
a type of toxin that is isolated from

The Price Of Happiness By Carl Richards
The Price of Happiness Does the thought of a brand new pair of shoes fill your heart with joy? If
so, would you still feel the same about those same shoes ten years from now? Most likely, the
answer to the second question is no. That is the point that Carl Richards is trying to make in the
article, The Odd Relationship between Money and Happiness. When searching for a topic to write
about, I came across this article. I found it on the New York Times website. Richards claim is that
money does not contribute to happiness, overall. This is because having money will always lead to
the desire of feeling the need to have more, whether it is luxuries or money, itself. Although I agree
with Richards up to a point, I cannot accept his overriding assumption that money does not support
happiness.
Richards article is to serve an important message: that money is not the key to true happiness. He
believes that there is not a correlation between money and happiness and that you certainly cannot
buy it. He explains that money may attempt to pursue happiness, but will fail. He points out that
there are so many people who are happier with less than what most people have. In the 6th
paragraph, Richards states, If you believe that happiness can be reduced to a functional equation
up to $75,000, then how can you explain all those stories of people around the world with very
little money and a whole lot of happiness (Richards 2)? What he means by this is that, if someone

shows researches on accessible sustainability instruments and activities to guarantee practical
biofuel generation in Latin America, and examines the benefits, advantages and obstructions of
implementing sustainability initiatives of biofuel production in latin America. The paper
additionally propose a point of view toward how to incorporate sustainability in the Latin American
biofuel area. It eventually lands at the conclusion and advances a few suggestions.
Keywords: sustainability, biofuel, benefits, barriers
1.Introduction
1.1.Overview of bio fuel in LA
. Latin America (LA) has abundance of renewable energy sources which remarkably could provide
energy solutions to worldwide energy needs.
For biofuel generation, Latin America has a blend of numerous favorable circumstances, for
example, great soil, appropriate atmosphere, accessible land and low work costs. Brazil is one of
only a handful couple of nations that have generally demonstrated an expanding supply and
utilization of biofuels as Brazil s generation and usage of bioethanol from sugarcane has turned into
a reasonable transport fuel since 30 years. Argentina and Brazil are encountering the developing
use of soy beans for biodiesel creation.

Louis Xiv s Influence On The World War II
Karl Johnson A Block, History Lisa Feirtag The Sun God Louis XIV is known for his powerful
approach to rule. For example, within foreign policy, pressing the invasion of the Spanish

The War of Devolution, and lasted a year. France lost, although Louis XIV did not give up, and
engaged in the great Franco Dutch War from 1672 to 1678. During the war, France managed to
acquire more land and the victory promoted France to the status of a dominant power. After all,
Louis XIV was known to France as the Sun King, the most powerful and god like being on earth,
he couldn t stand for defeat. This new dominant status, coupled with Louis XIV s audacious
campaigns to constantly expand territory through the use of military force, positioned France
as an immediate threat to other European nations, and positioned Louis XIV as a looming

his favorite pastime. Louis XIV was born September 5, 1638 in Saint Germaine en Laye, France.
He became king and official leader of 19 million French in 1643 at the age of four years old.
Rather than a scholarly education, Louis XIV was educated in practicality and logic. Louis s first

Pros And Cons Of American History Essay
American history is a very important subject in our education, therefore, this vital topic shouldn t

some teachers believe that students will benefit from thinking American history as a story , while
others look down on that idea. There are several pros and cons for the idea for thinking history as
a story . Some people look at history as a boring subject, but that s because they haven t thought of
it like a marvelous tale of action, drama, tragedy, and whole lot of chaos. By thinking of it that way,
it will make the subject much more interesting.

Ayala Hypothesis
The Creation of the Hypothesis
Ayala discusses the contradictions between how Darwin described his findings to the scientific
world and his experimental methods. Darwin used deductive reasoning for his research but
presented his findings as if he had used inductive reasoning. In the 19th century the deductive
method wasn t accepted because it was said to be making assumptions by forming a hypothesis and
instead inductive methods were used. Darwin did not want a bad reputation and that is why
Darwin presented his findings as if he had used inductive reasoning and not the actual scientific
method. The inductive process helped obtain more precise and empirical information through
research but it failed to explain the methods used by scientists. ... Show more content on

Ayala also talks about the four points of testing a hypothesis and the criterion of demarcation. The
first step is to examine that the hypothesis is consistence and does not contradict itself or any
universal idea. Second, the hypothesis must be examined for understanding of why the phenomena
may occurred as noted; the hypothesis must be itself explanatory. The third step is to examine the
hypothesis for consistency with other stated hypothesis or theories accepted in the science world.
Lastly, the hypothesis must be put on trial to observe if the hypothesis agrees with what is actually
observed, the results. This is the criterion of demarcation; where the hypothesis does not have to be
consistence with the empirical world of science and can also be proven wrong; then the hypothesis
becomes scientific.
In conclusion, Ayala states the contradictions between how Darwin actually performed his research
and how he presented his research to the scientific community. Darwin presented his research as
inductive reasoning but he actually performed his research using deductive reasoning because of
the reputation a hypothesis had in the 19th century. Ayala describes how a

The Need for a Revival of American Infrastructure
America made a multibillion dollar investment when the Federal Highway Act of 1956 was signed
into law by Dwight Eisenhower. This was a milestone for America, connecting the nation like it had
never been before. Since this time, however, the United States has done very little in terms of
infrastructure investment. Currently, the American Society of Civil Engineers ranks America s
infrastructureas a D + (2013). American no longer leads the world in the best roads, airports, rail,
or bridges. This is a serious problem that will lead to security, environmental, economic, and
political issues if not addressed fully and swiftly. America needs to act promptly to revive the
nation s infrastructure system before additional nations surpass the US while the cost becomes too
big to bear. The Interstate System that was created under the Federal Highway Act of 1956 cost
128.9 billion dollars and currently spans 46,876 miles long (Federal Highway Administration). This
system links the North to the South and the East Coast to the West Coast. Today, America does not
spend nearly the amount of time nor attention to the betterment of the nation s infrastructure. For
the last four year, the American Society of Civil Engineers, or ASCE for short, has ranked
America s system in the D range (NPR 2013). President of the society, Gregory DiLoreto, stated
that:

That is, the idea that denser cities across the globe is an adequate solution to limiting fossil fuel

Euclid of Alexandira
Euclid of Alexandria is commonly attributed to be the Father of Geometry and one of the most
influential mathematicians of all time. Very little is known about his personal life because
records from his era rarely survived. His estimated birth and death dates are 325 B.C. and 265 B.C.
There s no real consensus on whether he was greek or egyptian. Some people believed he was
educated at Plato s Academy, but his life and work didn t take place in Greece. He moved to
Alexandria, Egypt ten years after the city was founded and by then, Alexander the Great had
already passed away. Euclidsupposedly lived in Alexandria during the time of the first Ptolemy. The
only thing certain about Euclid s life was that he taught in Alexandria after Plato but before
Archimedes of Syracuse (Bruno 129). During Euclid s life, King Ptolemy started a research institute
called the Museum. Euclid was one of the first scholars to be associated with the Museum and he
taught mathematics there (O Connor). Euclid was completely devoted to mathematics and his
teachings. Euclid s most important contribution to humanity is his Elements, which is probably the
most influential textbook in history (Bruno 126). It s the second most reproduced book in the
western world, next to the bible, and the basis of elementary geometry. The Elements has thirteen
books, with each book made up of theorems Euclid personally compiled. Euclid researched

Geopolitics have played a huge role in humanitarian aid in the current century. Because
humanitarian aid is largely sponsored by western countries it poses a huge problem in the form of
a parochial form of theorizing 1 that supports the interests of the richest countries of the world. For
the purpose of this essay I will begin by examining the problems that have arisen in the most recent

In cases such as Iraq and Afghanistan the United States military assumed a huge role for the
distribution of disaster and humanitarian assistance alongside their military objectives. If foreign
militaries are carrying out humanitarian aid alongside military objectives, then there is no way
that aid can be supplied to whoever is in need in ways that are impartial, neutral and independent.
This new system whereby foreign militaries are responsible for supplying aid has created huge
security problems for not only the military, but for the people who are receiving aid. Opposing
factions to foreign military time and time again in Afghanistan and Iraq have targeted civilians
receiving aid to further their own agenda. 7
These are the problems that exist in the humanitarian aid industry today, but these problems have
developed over a course of many years and responses to famine and humanitarian disasters have

Dear White People Sociology
After watching the film Dear White People, I was not entirely sure if I enjoyed the production or
not. At first, I was not a fan of the movie, but about midway through I started appreciating it more.
I think producer Justin Simien appropriately used satire in the film by almost ridiculing every cast
member, not just focusing on someone who was heterosexual, black, white, or what socioeconomic
class they came from. I am sure at different colleges and universities racerelations exist. I
personally have not experienced any type of negative race conflict here, at The College of New
Jersey. To get the most obvious social identity portrayed in the film out of the way and perhaps
the most critical to the production, race. It mainly focused on black, white, and mixed race
people. One character who I felt personally portrayed the black stereotype the most was the man
who was interested in producing the television show, Helmut West. While he himself did not
necessarily come off as a typical black male, whatever that may be, he tried to push black female
stereotypes on Colandrea, more commonly known as Coco in the movie. To him, she was not
ghetto enough for the role, and she tailored her personality to be what he needed in order to get
what she wanted. While watching Coco transform herself to be what West... Show more content on

While I feel there was not a lot of it the issue was still touched upon. In the scene when Troy and
Sophia are walking up the stairs, they pass what I believe is the school store and Sam s current
boyfriend, Reggie is working it. There is banter exchanged between Troy and Reggie and at some
point Troy says something along the lines of You are just trying to fuck my leftovers. To me, this
was blatantly disrespectful to Sophia, Troy s current girlfriend, whom he was standing right next
to. This also makes it seem as if Sam is just an object up for grabs, not a real human being with
emotions, just something to

Consequences Of Forest Fires
Human activity has been extremely prevalent on earth, and the truth is the repercussions of our
actions are harming the environment around us. From forest fires to deforestation, and the way
our agriculture has changed over the past decades. Forest fires are caused by dry lightning,
especially in places that are lacking water. Fires occur primarily in the North American southeast as
well as the southwest. There are about three billion lightning strikes every year. Another main cause
of forest fires is humans. Human caused fires are due to un attentive campers or sometimes even
purposely by arsonist (Nix).
These fires are devastating and can have extreme consequences. First off, it produces smog in the
air contaminating our air supply as well as further harming our ecosystem. The main areas in which
forest fires or wildfires occur include Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, California, Idaho, Washington
and Oregon. These areas undergo extremely bad forest fires within in the United States of
America, In California out of control fires are regularly aggravated by the hot, dry Santa Ana
winds, which can convey a spark for miles. Customary techniques used for battling a wild fire
incorporate water dousing and showering fire retardants to quench the existing flames. Clearing
vegetation to make fire breaks which keeps a fire from fuel and can help moderate or contain it.
Firefighters additionally battle rapidly spreading fires by intentionally beginning flames in a
procedure called

The Evolution of Primate Intelligence
One of the main reasons why we are so interested in the other primates is that by looking at them
we can obtain some ideas of what our ancestor must have been like a few millions years ago. Even
though, we are not descended from any modern type monkey or ape, our lineage does appear to
have gone through stages in which we were a medium sized, reasonably intelligent creature with
good binocular vision, hands that were good at manipulation and the ability to climb trees. An
evolutionary trend in primates involves the development of offspring both before and after birth
and their integration into complex social systems. Another trend in primateevolution has been
toward a more elaborate brain. In addition to brain size and gestation periods,... Show more content
on Helpwriting.net ...
In general gestation periods for primates are relatively long, allowing for the development of a
more complex brain. Also the more sophisticated species exhibit longer infant and juvenile stages,
which are related to the time required for a more advanced mental development. Primates usually
have a closer infant/mother bond and a longer childhood than other animals. During the time a
primate is an infant and child it learns from its mother of how to survive in the environment.
Primates also learn what to eat, where to find food, how to eat different foods, mating rituals, social
structure, and females also learn maternal behavior. While still in the uterus, the brain starts
growing. Thus the longer the gestation period, the larger the relative size of the brain will be in the
infant. It is assumed that the more time spent in infancy and childhood, the more an animal learns.
There is a direct correlation to length of the gestation period, infancy and childhood development,
and lifespan in primates.
Due to the higher degree of intelligence, different types of primates engage in different complex
social groups. The three main ways to group primate societies are monogamous, polygynous and
multi male multi female groups.
Monogamous System
An example of the monogamous system is gibbons. Monogamous system consists of one male and
one female join to rear at least a single brood. There is little opportunity to form relationship
besides the one with the mate, so

  • 3. The Effects of Burning Carbon Dioxide Essay The Effects of Burning Carbon Dioxide The main waste product of fuel we burn is carbon dioxide, which is thought to have been the main factor in the gradual rise of global temperatures of the last hundred years. The rise is called Global Warming . The mechanism used to explain the rise in temperature is the greenhouse effect. Infrared radiation is trapped by atmospheric gases. Sunlight easily passes these gases on it way into the earth s atmosphere but on its way out the gases reflect the radiation back towards earth. Therefore as these gases increases the amount of radiation kept in the atmosphere is increased. Caron dioxide is one of the main green houses gases. Carbon dioxide is a waste product ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He suggests that rather than cutting carbon dioxide emissions, it would be more cost effective to reduce the amount of sunlight entering the atmosphere by scattering the sun s rays. Fine metallic nets deployed in the stratosphere should do the trick according to Mr. Teller. This would help slow or even stop global warming. Carbon Monoxide: Carbon monoxide forms during incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. It is extremely hazardous as things such as gas central heating boilers which are badly maintained can leak the gas causing carbon monoxide poisoning which would result in death. Carbon monoxide reacts irreversibly with haemoglobin. In red blood cells haemoglobin normally reacts with oxygen to form oxyhaemoglobin, which is then transported from our lungs to all our body cells. When carbon monoxide is breathed in it combines with haemoglobin to form carboxyhaemoglobin where the oxygen is not released from the haemoglobin therefore causing a lack of oxygen which can result in death. The solutions to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning are to give the odorless gas a distinct smell so that people can smell when there are gas leaks in their appliances. Another solution is to install carbon monoxide detectors which act in the same way as fire alarms and give off a signal when they detect carbon monoxide. There are other precautions which can be taken such as maintaining your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Role Of ERNA And Exrna We have begun to investigate the role of EVs and exRNA in pathogenic fungi, such as Cn. Our identification of exRNA, including sRNA, mRNA, and lncRNA, may reveal unique RNA signatures related to the growth and virulence mechanisms of Cn. Towards this goal, we have performed RNA Seq of exRNA extracted from several Cn var. neoformans (serotype D) strains and have obtained high quality data. 1a. Identification of novel miRNA. In our preliminary exRNA analysis, we isolated EVs from the wild type (WT) strain JEC21 and extracted exRNA. exRNA was submitted to the Beijing Genome Institute (BGI, Shenzhen, China) for cDNA synthesis and RNA Seq. Approximately 100 ng cDNA was subjected to Illumina deep sequencing using BGISEQ 500 technology. A total... With this large volume of high quality data in our possession, we propose the following specific aims. A B Figure 1. VENN diagram showing lncRNA (A) and mRNA (B) distributions. Twelve novel miRNAs and 572 novel lncRNA are exRNAs not found in the existing database and will be subject to expression validation directly. All 12 novel miRNAs will be included. For novel lncRNAs, annotation will be continuing to identify those containing miRNA precursors whose targets are functioning in pathways unique to fungi and Cn or/and essential for Cn function. Approximately ten lncRNAs will be selected for expression validation. Fdr s New Deal Program The CCC under his New Deal program, prompted the young males of America the chance to work and bring in money for their graving families, who were suffering during the Depression. They were working outside all the time, so it would better their overall physical appearance, but also their mental health too. FDR used the CCC to get the young men of America to become manlier. This ties to Teddy Roosevelt s propaganda about America needing to show off their manliness to the rest of the world. The CCC brought forth a rejuvenation of the all around health of the participants of the camps. The outdoor work that the workers were put through help transform their figures. As the Secretary of Labor, she played a role in the conditions of the workers the New Dealprograms. The Pennsylvania governor liked and advocated for what FDR was pushing for what the CCC camps intent was. Roosevelt, before his time as governor in 1912, brought in Pinchot to help boost the popularity of the Roosevelt Jones bill, which put regulations on deforestation on private lands in New York. Being a student of forestry, helped Pinchot get his point across with how to implement the conservation of forests. Pinchot s methods of conservation were based on the timber production and the soil. People have always been treated differently depending on race, whether you know it or not there has always been discrimination in our society. We have laws and business practices that supports discriminationknown and unknown, these laws that unjust laws are practiced on a daily basis. One way to define an unjust law is one that shows favor to group or another. A philosopher named Robert k. On the other hand martin Luther king Jr believes that we need laws in order to right the wrongs unjust laws of the past.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fullenwider saw it in another way, in order to fix unjust laws to get rid of all unjust laws. He started by saying, the way to end discrimination is to not discriminate in reverse but to stop discrimination. (pg. 271) we are not going to be able to fix a problem by making laws in reverse to what has already been done. We need to put an end to it all together. By making reverse discrimination we are not making thing better, we are just sweeping the issue under the rug so to speak. When we reverse discrimination we just force people to meet a quota . In his paper he points out that, a company policy not itself is designed to keep blacks out nevertheless, does exactly that. (pg. 272) Companies do not have policies that say no black allowed. They have requirements in place that in a roundabout way keeps blacks from getting the job. Some black person could have had the job if they had the education or recommendations to get the job. Companies have rules were they know blacks can t meet the requirements because of the way that our society is set up. To fix discrimination is not about what is seen or what is known Fullenwider points out that, it is about the nature and sweep of discrimination (pg. 272) if you only work on a surface level you will only get a surface result. In order to move on from such an ingrained problem like discrimination you need to get rid of it in all forms. You can t reverse what has already been done but you can put an end to it cold turkey , stop it in its tracks. One thing that is being overlooked is that our country was not made for blacks to live happily. The world is built for giants and of course we don t do well in that world but give us back the world built for us and see what we can do. (pg. 273) Whites are the giant in our world. I feel as though this is agreeable because I think all college students come to college with anxiety and neuroticism, and reasons because of low social connectedness, and environmental threat. Social connectedness model focuses on social exclusion as particularly important to anxiety. When you exclude that social connectedness, it then becomes a lack of connection in a society, may produce alienation and feeling of loneliness and despair. • 9. Symptoms And Treatment Of Renal Disorders Essay Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNA) are endogenously produced short non coding regulatory RNAs that can repress gene expression by posttranscriptional mechanisms. They can therefore influence both normal and pathological conditions in diverse biological systems. Several miRNAs have been detected in kidneys where they have been found to be crucial for renal development and normal physiological functions as well as significant contributors to the pathogenesis of renal disorders such as diabetic nephropathy, acute kidney injury, lupus nephritis, polycystic kidney disease, and others due to their effects on key genes involved in these disease processes. miRNAs have also emerged as novel biomarkers in these renal disorders. Due to increasing evidence of their actions in various kidney segments, in this mini review, we discuss the functional significance of altered miRNA expression during the development of renal pathologies and highlight emerging miRNA based therapeutics and diagnostic strategies for early detection and treatment of kidney diseases. Introduction microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) are a unique class of short (в€ ј22 nucleotides) single stranded endogenous noncoding RNAs (7, 8). miRNAs contain nucleotide sequences complementary to binding sites on the 3′ untranslated regions (3′ UTRs) of protein coding messenger RNA (mRNA) transcripts. Through direct binding to the mRNA 3′ UTRs, miRNAs can induce repression of target gene expression (57). Individual miRNAs can often engage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Constraints Of Language Help Define Our Notion Of Romance The constraints of language help define our notion of romance, writes Mark Steyn, and in English we re more constrained than most. There are just four and a half rhymes for love, approximately three quarters of which offer very meagre possibilities. What is remarkable, in a way, is that there should be any rhymes at all. If language is differential at its base, if differences of sound and sense are the only markers of meaning (Norris 24 5), then similarity the relative lack of difference should, if anything, tend toward meaninglessness. In practice this is not so. [T]hese chance resemblances of sound and spelling are as ingrained in language as the chance dissemblances they interact with, and they are easily exploited (or easily tempt those who would exploit them) to suggest a natural affinity between objects or concepts which logically [possess] none (Lanham 179). That s why the rhymes with loveproblem is a problem: English has difficulty talking about love, not because love is not adequately distinguished from other words, but because it is not adequately associated with them. Stanley Styne s lyric to the song There s No Such Thing illustrates the peculiar situation of Anglophone love. It contains three of Steyn s four and a half rhymes,1 and the manner in which it uses them in a way, the fact that it uses them inevitably undercuts the frank meaning of the song. Unfortunately, these words exist because there is a history of children being killed by their parents, which yearly about 450 children intentionally murdered by a parent. Furthermore, FBI homicide data correlates three out of four child victims are younger than 5. While Northeastern data a large portion of filicide are from parents that are going through some form of custody battle (Bello, 2014). These statistics makes Susan s case even more unique that her case goes against the majority or what data suggest. Another case that goes against the norm is Mitchelle Blair who also committed maternal filicide. She claim she killed her two children, a 13 year old daughter and 9 year old son. Mitchelle says she killed her children because they were raping her youngest child (Chuck, 2015). To add to this list Tonya Thomas murdered her four children ages 12,13, 15, and 17 years old before killing herself (Jennings, Smith, 2012). Julie Schenecker killed her teen children also which raises the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The foundation of maternal filicide seems to be filled with some form of depression. • 25. The Importance Of Gentrification Of Indigenous People The first time an indigenous event occurred can never be accurately described in text. There have been many incidents where people have been driven out of their homes and out of their property just because a more civilized group of people have moved in and decided to make it their own home, there have even been cases of this turning into slavery. This is the exact definition of gentrification. Is gentrification of indigenous people morally correct? Does it need to be looked at in order for society to continue moving forward? For example, would society be a better place, if instead of fixing roads first, we looked to make sure the people ALL felt as if they were being treated rightfully and fair and equal? To be honest, people of indigenous backgrounds are angry. Although this can t be said for all of them, there are a few people irritated at the fact that their ancestors were taken advantage of and that now, in modern time, they are being ignored and set aside. For many people of indigenous backgrounds, they have to grow up in a society where their history isn t talked about and their backgrounds are irrelevant even though their ancestors had as much to do with the creation of a country as much as the others do. Why is it that indigenous people never get the credit? It could possibly be the fact that when they were first introduced to the people who had founded the land, the indigenous people were not as advanced as them. Or it could also be the fact that ... Educational Benefits Of Computer Games Educational benefits of computer games for kids Long before computers become common for home use, children from not well up families did not have access to computers. This means that children did not involve themselves with computers and computers games too. With computers becoming common not only to offices but homes too, children are able to access the computer easily and more to it have given up their physical games to involve themselves with computers games. To this effect, concern have been raised in form of thesis claiming that children playing computer learning games learn faster and they retain what they have played. The above thesis is true to some extent because it is taken like experiments done in higher level education, the task will be retained in one s head. Likewise when a child plays a learning game that requires he or she to practice a certain activity for a long time that point will stick to that kind s mind the same way a student will vividly remember an experiment process carried out in the laboratory. It is also noted that computer learning games form a part of entertainment. Research carried out by institute of center for study of children, youth and media indicate that it is easier for children to remember a movie they had watched sometimes back. Likewise through computer video games they will remember the game as a video. Through this remembering of that game these children will be recalling an educational concept. • 27. Whooping Cough And Its Effects On Children Whooping cough JennaKay Richardson Career College of Northern Nevada Whooping Cough Every year thousands of adults, children, and infants contract a dangerous and highly contagious bacterial disease. This disease is called pertussis, more commonly known as whooping cough, and it affects the upper respiratory tract. Pertussis gets the name whooping cough because of the whoop sound made by those infected with the bacteria. Whooping cough is a disease that is specific only to humans and has a greater affect on children or those with a weak immune system. Those who already have a respiratory ailment such as COPD are also at a greater risk. The CDC states that whooping cough is caused by bacteria known as Bordetella pertussis. These bacteria attach to a person s cilia, or tiny hairs, that line the upper respiratory tract. They then release a toxin that causes damage to these cilia as well as swelling to the respiratory tract. Pertussis is a highly contagious disease that is transferred from person to person. People with pertussis usually spread the disease by coughing or sneezing while in close contact with others, who then breathe in the pertussis bacteria. Many infants who get pertussis are infected by older siblings, parents or caregivers who might not even know they have the disease (Vaccines.gov n.d.). According to the CDC symptoms of pertussis usually begin to show up within five to ten days after exposure to the bacteria, but it can take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Most Ancient Predatory Class Of Arthropods Essay Scorpions are the most ancient predatory class of arthropods that lived on earth for millions of years. There have been more than 1,500 species of scorpions identified worldwide and there are only 25 of them venomous to humans and other organism. Scorpions venom has played a critical role in their survival due to its exceptional mixture of component which consists of enzymes, short peptides, simple amino acids and other chemical secreted from the venom glands. These short peptides (30 80 amino acid) are often identified and known as toxins that the scorpionuse by means of self protection against other organisms. In recent decades, both medical and therapeutic fields turn their attention to study scorpions as significant laboratory animals due to their physiological characteristics. The different toxins produced by the venomous scorpions have opened new horizon towards using them to either design specific drugs and antibodies or find alternative tools in identifying a certain disease such as cancer. Although these toxins have different modes of actions and targets, the majority of them affect the nervous system and are classified as neurotoxins because they either alter specific ion channel binding and movement across cell membrane or affect neurotransmitter transmissions in the synaptic cleft. In order to explore closely the different features of these neurotoxins, a toxin called chlorotoxin will be discussed. Chlorotoxin or (CTX) is a type of toxin that is isolated from ... • 29. The Price Of Happiness By Carl Richards The Price of Happiness Does the thought of a brand new pair of shoes fill your heart with joy? If so, would you still feel the same about those same shoes ten years from now? Most likely, the answer to the second question is no. That is the point that Carl Richards is trying to make in the article, The Odd Relationship between Money and Happiness. When searching for a topic to write about, I came across this article. I found it on the New York Times website. Richards claim is that money does not contribute to happiness, overall. This is because having money will always lead to the desire of feeling the need to have more, whether it is luxuries or money, itself. Although I agree with Richards up to a point, I cannot accept his overriding assumption that money does not support happiness. Richards article is to serve an important message: that money is not the key to true happiness. He believes that there is not a correlation between money and happiness and that you certainly cannot buy it. He explains that money may attempt to pursue happiness, but will fail. He points out that there are so many people who are happier with less than what most people have. In the 6th paragraph, Richards states, If you believe that happiness can be reduced to a functional equation up to $75,000, then how can you explain all those stories of people around the world with very little money and a whole lot of happiness (Richards 2)? What he means by this is that, if someone less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Darwin used deductive reasoning for his research but presented his findings as if he had used inductive reasoning. In the 19th century the deductive method wasn t accepted because it was said to be making assumptions by forming a hypothesis and instead inductive methods were used. Darwin did not want a bad reputation and that is why Darwin presented his findings as if he had used inductive reasoning and not the actual scientific method. The inductive process helped obtain more precise and empirical information through research but it failed to explain the methods used by scientists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ayala also talks about the four points of testing a hypothesis and the criterion of demarcation. The first step is to examine that the hypothesis is consistence and does not contradict itself or any universal idea. Second, the hypothesis must be examined for understanding of why the phenomena may occurred as noted; the hypothesis must be itself explanatory. The third step is to examine the hypothesis for consistency with other stated hypothesis or theories accepted in the science world. Lastly, the hypothesis must be put on trial to observe if the hypothesis agrees with what is actually observed, the results. This is the criterion of demarcation; where the hypothesis does not have to be consistence with the empirical world of science and can also be proven wrong; then the hypothesis becomes scientific. In conclusion, Ayala states the contradictions between how Darwin actually performed his research and how he presented his research to the scientific community. This was a milestone for America, connecting the nation like it had never been before. Since this time, however, the United States has done very little in terms of infrastructure investment. Currently, the American Society of Civil Engineers ranks America s infrastructureas a D + (2013). American no longer leads the world in the best roads, airports, rail, or bridges. This is a serious problem that will lead to security, environmental, economic, and political issues if not addressed fully and swiftly. America needs to act promptly to revive the nation s infrastructure system before additional nations surpass the US while the cost becomes too big to bear. The Interstate System that was created under the Federal Highway Act of 1956 cost 128.9 billion dollars and currently spans 46,876 miles long (Federal Highway Administration). This system links the North to the South and the East Coast to the West Coast. Today, America does not spend nearly the amount of time nor attention to the betterment of the nation s infrastructure. For the last four year, the American Society of Civil Engineers, or ASCE for short, has ranked America s system in the D range (NPR 2013). Very little is known about his personal life because records from his era rarely survived. His estimated birth and death dates are 325 B.C. and 265 B.C. There s no real consensus on whether he was greek or egyptian. Some people believed he was educated at Plato s Academy, but his life and work didn t take place in Greece. He moved to Alexandria, Egypt ten years after the city was founded and by then, Alexander the Great had already passed away. Euclidsupposedly lived in Alexandria during the time of the first Ptolemy. The only thing certain about Euclid s life was that he taught in Alexandria after Plato but before Archimedes of Syracuse (Bruno 129). During Euclid s life, King Ptolemy started a research institute called the Museum. Euclid was one of the first scholars to be associated with the Museum and he taught mathematics there (O Connor). Euclid was completely devoted to mathematics and his teachings. This new system whereby foreign militaries are responsible for supplying aid has created huge security problems for not only the military, but for the people who are receiving aid. At first, I was not a fan of the movie, but about midway through I started appreciating it more. I think producer Justin Simien appropriately used satire in the film by almost ridiculing every cast member, not just focusing on someone who was heterosexual, black, white, or what socioeconomic class they came from. I am sure at different colleges and universities racerelations exist. I personally have not experienced any type of negative race conflict here, at The College of New Jersey. While he himself did not necessarily come off as a typical black male, whatever that may be, he tried to push black female stereotypes on Colandrea, more commonly known as Coco in the movie. The Evolution of Primate Intelligence One of the main reasons why we are so interested in the other primates is that by looking at them we can obtain some ideas of what our ancestor must have been like a few millions years ago. Even though, we are not descended from any modern type monkey or ape, our lineage does appear to have gone through stages in which we were a medium sized, reasonably intelligent creature with good binocular vision, hands that were good at manipulation and the ability to climb trees. An evolutionary trend in primates involves the development of offspring both before and after birth and their integration into complex social systems. Another trend in primateevolution has been toward a more elaborate brain. In addition to brain size and gestation periods,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In general gestation periods for primates are relatively long, allowing for the development of a more complex brain. Also the more sophisticated species exhibit longer infant and juvenile stages, which are related to the time required for a more advanced mental development. Primates usually have a closer infant/mother bond and a longer childhood than other animals. During the time a primate is an infant and child it learns from its mother of how to survive in the environment. Primates also learn what to eat, where to find food, how to eat different foods, mating rituals, social structure, and females also learn maternal behavior. While still in the uterus, the brain starts growing. Thus the longer the gestation period, the larger the relative size of the brain will be in the infant. It is assumed that the more time spent in infancy and childhood, the more an animal learns. There is a direct correlation to length of the gestation period, infancy and childhood development, and lifespan in primates. Due to the higher degree of intelligence, different types of primates engage in different complex social groups. The three main ways to group primate societies are monogamous, polygynous and multi male multi female groups. Monogamous System An example of the monogamous system is gibbons.
