A Raisin In The Sun Character Analysis
A Raisin in the Sun is about the dream of the Youngers, a black family living in South Side
Chicago in the 1950s. Like any family, the Youngers dream is a stitched together mosaic; as they
impatiently wait for the arrival of an insurance check for ten thousand dollars, each member of the
Younger clan has a slightly different dream for the money. Yet when the check actually arrives,
their dreams collide. Even as the dream of each relation moves closer to reality, the family
fragments. The struggle between material desires and family ideals escalates into a heavy and
bittersweet drama. There are a couple of prominent themes throughout A Raisin in the Sun.
There s the obvious theme to follow and work hard for your dreams, the importance of having a
healthy family relationship and pride. The main focus of the play is on dreams. Each of the
characters has a dream of their own. For Beneatha, she desires to go to school to become a
doctor. During a scene Beneatha explains why she wants to become a doctor she wants to help
people, That was what one person could do for another, fix him up sew up the problem, make
him all right again. That was the most marvelous thing in the world...I wanted to do that. I
always thought it was the one concrete thing in the world that a human being could do. Fix up
the sick, you know and make them whole again. This was truly being God...I wanted to cure. It
used to be so important to me. I wanted to cure. It used to matter. I used to care. I mean about
people and how their bodies hurt... (14) Beneatha works hard and tries her best even when
others, such as her boyfriend Asagai, try to discourage her. For Walter, it is his desire to make
money to support his family and lead a good life. Walter tries many different methods to get
money, but they were not successful. In fact due to his dissatisfaction it led him to hurt others
around him. Especially in this scene where Ruth opens up to Mama about how worried she is for
Walter, Mama, something is happening between Walter and me. I don t know what it is but he
needs something something I can t give him anymore. He needs this chance, Lena. (187). As for
Mama, it i s her dream for Travis to have a yard to play in. For Mama despite not

Post General Education Classes
Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think (Albert Einstein). There
are different types of teachers or instructors, those who tell, those who coach, and those who mentor
their students; just as there are different types of schools and classes. Each person chooses their
path and education, either with or with or without support. The teachers in general education
classes typically are more proficient in one specific subject but can generally teach basics of all
the traditional studies; they are not specialized or experts in any one course. Class sizes are
generally too large for teachers to give each individual the needed attention needed to excel.
Meanwhile in vocational or CTE classes the mentors or instructors are certified in their areas of
expertise. The classes are compiled of students who want to be further taught skills needed for a
profession and learn better in a more hands on atmosphere.
Secondary or post general education is usually necessary to gain even basic skills needed to be
proficient in the workplace. Graduates from basic required education are seldom capable of going
straight from school into the workplace, the foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In CTE classes they include these basic teachings, but offer much more hands on learning, and are
expected to possess real world experience in their field. Vocational school or skill specific
technical schools can often much more easily serve a more diverse student population because
they are able to tailor programs and student services to fit the needs of the participants. CTE
courses focus on job skill sets such as critical thinking, teamwork, research, and problem solving;
for group projects or simple collaboration in the workplace these skills set people apart from the

The Three Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion
The boxer rebellionв€’the fight between China and Western countriesв€’has been a debate since the
end of 1901. Many people have been wondering how the war happened and what were the reasons
that lead to it. Although many researchers have shown the causes they have found, there will be
other research that disagrees with them. This paper mainly supports the claim that suggested the
three major causes of the boxer rebellion, and refutes the point that the new technologies and
innovations that the West had introduced helped Chinabe more developed. It will define three main
elements that leaded to the boxer uprising which are the personal and religious belief of Chinese
people, the rise of Christianity, and the support of Qing dynasty. As the result of the Opium wars
and Sino Japanese war, Chinese had suffered defeat, and more of foreigners came by to transform
and try to rule the country (Chandler, 2012). China had been changed since the arrival of
foreigners after the Opium wars and Sino Japanese war. Some Chinese accepted the changes and
adapt themselves to be in worldwide whereas others still maintained their norms and values. The
boxer rebellion or the boxer uprising or righteous harmonious fist or I Ho Ch uan was a group of
nationalist fighters that fought against 8 countries, which were Austria Hungary, France, England,
Germany, Japan, Russia, Italy and the United States... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the boxer rebellion has been debated from time to time, many researchers and historians try to
find the true story. Additionally, some of the stories even tend to be biased. Nonetheless, this
paper majorly focuses on three main causes, which are the personal belief and religious traditions,
the rise of Christianity, and the Empress and her dynasty s supporters. Besides, there must be the

The Social Darwinism Of The World War I
American Social Darwinism
For their point of view does not permit of a live and let live kind of carrying on. It is a point of
view that justifies itself by a whole hearted acceptance of the worst of Neo Darwinism, the
Allmacht of natural selection applied rigorously to human life and society and Kultur (p.22,
Headquarters Nights by Vernon Kellogg).
In the years following World War I, the Social Darwinist movement lost some of its momentum due
to the unpopularity of Germany s Neo Darwinism. Support for an individualistic and nationalistic
based Social Darwinism died and was replaced by the state enforced Social Darwinism of eugenics.
Despite the widespread Christian attack on Darwinian tenets, Christians did not fight the eugenics
movement in an effective way. Eventually, even legislatures controlled by Christians fell to the
false promises of eugenics. Despite poignant criticism of eugenics among scientists in the United
States, more than 30,000 individuals were forcibly sterilized. In an ironic twist of fate, the Nazis
Party s adoption of American Eugenics programs led to the virtual extinction of Social Darwinism
in the United States. Social Darwinism stems from a misapplication of Darwin s theory of
evolution. In 1859 Charles Darwin published On The Origin of Species, which describes the
mechanism for changes in the traits of a population over time. This mechanism, called natural
selection, favors the survival, and hence the reproduction, of those

Hearing Lips And Seeing Voices By Harry Mcgurk
Multi sensory integration is a process in which sensory input from one sense organ interacts with
and influences how other sense organs process this same input, and how these inputs combine to
produce a cohesive and unified perceptual experience (Talsma, Senkowski, Soto Faraco, and
Woldorff, 2010). A prime example of multi sensory integration is the process of speech perception
which combines auditory and visual inputs to form a cohesive and comprehensive speech percept
(Nath and Beauchamp, 2012). In their 1976 article Hearing Lips and Seeing Voices , Harry
McGurk and John MacDonald described a perceptual phenomenon they referred to as the McGurk
effect(McGurk and MacDonald, 1976). The McGurk effect is an audiovisual illusion that is... Show

These McGurk and MacDonald studies were the first to demonstrate that visual stimuli can modify
speech perception when it is presented simultaneously with incongruent auditory stimuli. These
findings contested the traditional assumption that speech perception in face to face conversation
was a unimodal, rather than multi sensory process, that is, a strictly auditory process that was
independent of visual input (McGurk and MacDonald, 1976; Rouger, Fraysse, Degunie and
Barone, 2007; MacDonald and McGurk, 1978). Although McGurk and McDonald provided
valuable insight into the role of visual processes in speech perception, their initial studies did have
some limitations, for example, their manner place hypothesis failed to provide a comprehensive
theory of the cognitive processes involved in producing the McGurk effect. They also failed to
measure their participant s lipreading performances prior to conducting their study and thus, this
potential confounding variable was not taken into consideration. Furthermore, McGurk and
MacDonald failed to explain why up to one third of their participants did not experience the
McGurk effect at all.
Since these original McGurk effect studies, there has been some debate between theorists and
researchers,

Conqueror Of Basketball
The Conqueror s Sport: Basketball
There is no question as to the immense and still growing popularity of basketball as one of the
major competitive sports in the world. There is almost no major country in the world without an
official team participating in the Federation Internationale Basketball (FIBA) leagues nowadays.
Our own country, the Philippines, loves the sport with a passion.
For all those unfamiliar with the sport (which are very hard to find nowadays), basketball is a two
team game, composed of five players per team, with the goal of scoring the most points in a given
amount of time. A score, or a field goal in technical terms, is made when the basketball is shot
through a hoop, or a basket. The team with more points after 48 minutes ... Show more content on

Some of these countries were colonies, and some were just close neighbors. But nevertheless, this
shows that America has been affecting neocolonialism on countries through basketball, and is most
prominent on countries which America has had influence on. And observations have been made to
prove these claims.Topendsports.com, a website that performs sports related surveys, conducted a
study on the popularity of basketball per country. What s interesting is that the top five of the list
are USA, Philippines, Canada, Australia, and Iran, most of which have had deep connections to
America in their respective pasts. The Philippines was a colony of the States. Canada is the closest
geographically to the US. Iran was involved with the US during that Iraq thingy. As for good ol
Aussie, their culture has some semblances to American culture.
The point is, there seems to be a connection between the popularity of basketball in a country to the
eventuality of interaction between them and America. That in itself is one of the proofs that
basketball has a connection to American Neocolonialism, that the continuity of a country s
influence is maintained by assimilation of a part/s of its culture, in this case,

High Tier Punishment
My teachers in lower grades used punishments more than rewards to influence my behaviors.
Starting from kindergarten the punishment system was introduced to me. Whenever I
misbehaved, I had to move the clothespin with my name on it, up the next paper plate which
symbolized a higher tier of punishment. The three levels were green, yellow, and red. The first
tier, green, symbolized freedom to play during recess, the second tier, yellow, symbolized a
penalty of time that had to be sat on a bench, and the final tier, red, symbolized a trip to the
principal s office. The fear of having to go see the principal or having to sit on the bench for a
period of time was my motivation to not misbehave. This system of punishments continued with

internationally Nowadays a large number of Chinese companies are willing to develop their
business scope in international markets. Their main competitive superiority exclusively depends on
the low price strategy based on cheap labors. However, this merely advantage couldn t go down

All cells contain membranes that are selectively permeable, allowing certain things to pass into
and leave out of the cell. The process in which molecules of a substance move from an area of high
concentration to areas of low concentration is called Diffusion. Whereas Osmosis is the process in
which water crosses membranes from regions of high water concentration to areas with low water
concentration. While molecules in diffusion move down a concentration gradient, molecules during
osmosis both move down a concentration gradient as well as across it. Both diffusion, and osmosis
are types of passive transport, which do not require help.

Maintaining A Career As A Bartender
Working as a bartender can be a very fulfilling career for people that like a fast paced and
personable job setting. Unfortunately, it can be a hard environment for many people
recovering from alcohol addiction. If you have a career as a bartender, but are trying to beat
alcoholism, you don t need to feel helpless: there is a strong chance you can keep your career
while in recovery. Is It Possible? Maintaining a career as a bartender during recovery is possible,
but it isn t necessarily easy. You re obviously going to have to utilize out patient rehabilitation
care, as opposed to in patient. Out patient centers let you live at home, attend work, and live your
life like normal. You ll still have to attend regular meetings and detoxify, but there will be no one
to guide you through the process. For many bartenders, this will be a major challenge, but it can
be incredibly liberating for others. Being able to maintain a normal lifestyle may help give them
the motivation they need to live a sober life. Remember: in an out patient program, you are your
own boss and are in control of your own actions. The only person you have to answer to is
yourself. In fact, for many people recovering from an alcohol addiction, going back to work as a
bartender can serve as an important personal challenge. Being surrounded by alcohol and drinking

The Film Analysis Of Saving Private Ryan
In 2016 alone, over twenty two movies were created based on true events of World War II. These
films depict the dramatic fighting and emotional stress that fell on soldier s shoulders. Over the
years, many historic films have been created yet one movie has proven itself superior: Saving
Private Ryan. Steven Spielberg, a well known film director, first produced the movie to pay tribute
to the soldiers who fought in World War II. With many occasions of graphic and realistic scenes,
Saving Private Ryanallows viewers to gain an appreciation for the hardships troops experienced.
This film gives the audience a glimpse into the intense battles fought in World War II, while also
providing a heartfelt story about brothership and loss. Differing from the other World War II
movies, Saving Private Ryan exemplifies a true war dramawith the help of the plot, historical
accuracy, characters and setting.
The plot of Saving Private Ryan illustrates a dramatic war movie by depicting all the stages that a
war veteran experiences. Private James Ryan and Captain John Miller were chosen to undertake
those emotions and experiences. Towards the beginning of the film, the point of view switches
from Ryan to Miller when Ryan has a flashback to WWII. Through Miller s eyes the audience
experiences the pure horror of World War II. Saving Private Ryan shows the battles of Normandy
beaches where more than 10,000 American troops died alone. Spielberg used this scene in

Charles Darwin
(Intro)
A man named Charles Darwin forever changed the world, especially within western civilizations.
The idea of how humans and animals came to be was very confusing and there was no set
reason of this. People forever wondered how they came to be on this planet. Many different
ideas and theories were made, but there was no scientific reasoning on exactly the way humans
and animals are here. Today, the theory is still in debate. It is possible that in the future someone
may be able to figure it out, but it is also possible that it will be a mystery forever. One major
belief in how humans and animals came to be was all changed through the theory of Charles Darwin
and evolution through natural selection. His theory states that all life is related and has descended
from a common ancestor and that natural selection brings upon evolution. Although it may or may
not be the exact reason of how humans and animals came to be, it gave a huge sense of
explanation of one idea that changed western civilization greatly. Because of his theory, Darwin
has changed everyone s thoughts on life, (2nd argument), biology, religion, and society. FIX
LATER WHEN DONE. Darwin can be seen as an individual who has changed western civilization.
(Background Information) Darwin was born on February 12th 1809. He later passed away 73
years away on April 19th 1882, due to heart failure. Born in a small English town called

Duality In 19th Century Russia
Just to the east of riotous, industrialising Western Europe sat Imperial Russia, pendent between
tradition and modernity, a vast empire of duality. As if trying to vent her frustrations, 19th century
Russia produced a selection of history s finest writers; each writer packing their work with themes
of duplicity, hope, and heavy social criticism.
Duality was the cardinal theme for Imperial Russia. 19th century Russia was a peasant filled,
agrarian empire rushed through the gawky adolescence of industrialisation. The serfs were only
freed in 1861, and by 1900 around 2.3 million Russians worked inside factories: in a century,
Russia had moved from a feudal system of serfdom to the shores of modernity. A theme of

Ancient Greek Culture And Archetypes In The Odyssey
Connections between humans and their culture over time, rarely found, happen to be found in
ancient literature. The connections ,archetypes, can be found in the adventurous book The
Odyssey. Ancient greek culture is brought up by Homer through archetypes. In the Odyssey, topics
such as terrifying monsters , love tests, and an unstoppable hero are all related to ancient greek
culture. The Odysseyshows archetypes that also reveal this culture. Three archetypes found are
monsters, loyalty, and a hero which shows ancient greek culture for modern readers. Skull crushing
and blood thirsty monsters is a common fear and an archetype. For example, in the article Monster
Archetypes in the Odyssey, it states the most famous is Polyphemus, the dreaded Cyclops .
Polyphemus is a massive and spine chilling monster. The scene with Polyphemus of bashing skulls
against rocks is described as a horror film. The ancient greeks had their fear of mythical intimidating
creatures. Another example from the same article includes masking bloodlust and cannibalism to
Odysseusmen . The Laestrygonians, as said in the quote, were deceived as a normal village until
they found out they were cannibals. These characters might be found in a modern horror film,
Wrong Turn, so fear has not changed in the last 3,000 years. Not all monsters must be massive and
strong, but they can be seductiveness. Circeis a seductive woman who turns sailors into pigs

Nightfall Brings Panic
It seems that when night falls, the mind appears to go into a state of panic. Nighttime brings to
mind many horror movies scenario. Well they do when you re in the middle of nowhere, with a
couple of friends and a machete. At least in my mind that s what happened. A state of pure terror
seems to sink in, and I believe the worst scenario that a random stranger is coming inside my tent
and slaughtering me while I m asleep. To begin with, when the day started, it seemed that the
scenery was beautiful and peaceful. It appeared that the same place can have a different
perspective at the drop of the sun. I had never gone camping; it always seemed like a fun thing to
do with the right people. My friends wanted to celebrate my seniority and almost graduating,
since they were in college themselves, and knew how important senior year of high school was.
We were thinking of going on a road trip somewhere far from Fresno. We joked for a bit about
going camping, and then it just seemed to happen. The whole ride there we all seemed happy
with chatter, catching up on our gossip. In total we were three girls and two guys. Once we

Interventions are planned for all stages to promote detachment from deviant peers, build resilient
bonds, enhance skills, and develop greater social competence in the adolescent. Conduct disorder
can be tough to treat; being fair, being consistent, and being available are the greatest tool is
working with these adolescents.
Working individually with client
Working individually with client would include begin by assessing the client to identify all the
significant problems and developing a treatment plan to help the client with these maladaptive
behaviors. Next, identify strengths of the client, family, or support staff which to build effective
strategies with. Then, identify problems and plan interventions for them (coping strategies and
tools). Interventions will most likely be implemented for a long period of time. Treatment will
include supervision and monitoring as a component. Cognitive behavioral therapy will be utilized to
help modify progress over an extended period of time. Family members are an vital part of a
successful Treatment Team; refining their parenting skills through training can be advantageous to
the client. The family will need to assume some responsibilities for monitoring the client s
behaviors. The vast majority of youth with conduct disorder do not carry them into adult life and
most adolescents are responsive to treatment.

Trap Shooter Analysis
Finding the ideal time and firing solution for how to shoot a moving target depends on the aptitude
sets and experiences of a Trap Shooter. Customarily, these abilities and experiences have been
viewed as instinctive activities that must be learned through years of hard practice, shooting a huge
number of rounds. Currently, there is no existing set of instructions that can help shooters

Charles Darwin Outline
Charles Darwin
I. Introduction
A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life , (Charles
Darwin). Darwin meant that our lives are meant to be spent doing the things we want to do and
what would better ourselves. Darwin spent his life doing what he wanted to do rather than what
others would have approved of. Charles Darwin was an important and influential figure in history
that had a positive impact on the world because he had introduced many important ideas of
evolution to the world that challenged its current rules of life.
II. Early life/Childhood
According to his autobiography, Charles Darwin came into the world on February 12, 1809, in
Shrewsbury, England to Robert and Susannah Darwin. When Darwin was eight... Show more

Significant Accomplishments Some of Darwin s greatest accomplishments were writing a total
of twenty five books in his life about the field of biology. His theories on natural selection how it
affected the evolution of species, greatly bettered the field and now stands as the basis of the field
of evolution. He was the one to phrase his most memorable quote, Survival of the fittest , which
describes how only the best organisms of a species can reproduce.
V. Impact on the World Darwin made a grand impact on the world by introducing many people into
evolution and disproved the principles of Creationism with his theories on natural selection and
evolution (Darwinism). His contributions to science field in biology and geology changed how the
world sees life s history as not instantaneous rather a slow ongoing process.
VI. Lesson Learned From Their Life (Conclusion)
To end it all off, Charles Darwin challenged the current ideas of science at his time and changed it
for the better with his studies and theories. Had he given up, we would not likely have our current
understanding of the world of evolution and the history of life. Darwin showed us that we should
never give up hope and devotion to what we believe

with electrical stimulation, but certain devices such as pacemaker can interfere with it: therefore,
dry needling is used alone (Pavkovich 548). Studies have found that dry needling without

Natural And Man Made Disasters
This paper will discuss the differences between two different natural and man made disasters. The
disasters that will be discussed are Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Additionally, this paper will look into the specifics of what constitutes a natural and man made
disaster. Specifically, this paper will look into each disaster to include the events surrounding
them; the risks; and the assessments. Furthermore, this paper will look at some of the details of
each disaster and why there was so much devastation. Finally, this paper will look at a few
similarities, but mainly the differences between the two, and how the effects of each still linger
today.
Natural Disaster
Natural disasters are anything from floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, tornadoes,
wildfires, or anything else nature could develop that causes massive amounts of damage, or cause
a large losses of life. Such events are not anything caused because of human beings, but only by the
actions of atmospheric conditions, or due to the changes of continental drifts that these disasters
occur. Technology has come a long way since the early days before the industrial revolution where
predictions can be made and warnings can be issued. This helps reduce the amount of possible loss
of lives that would occur in 21st century. However, that is not what happened during Hurricane
Katrina, a category 5 Hurricane.

A Child I Loved Riding Roller Coasters
As a child I loved riding roller coasters. The fast speeds, the moment before the big drop, and that
sinking feeling in your stomach as you go up and down the track. In an odd twist of fate, a
serious injury from a roller coaster as a 17 year old helped redevelop a motivation to succeed
that I would not otherwise have known existed in me. The summer after I graduated high school
I hit my head on the shoulder harness of a ride. Staggering off the ride I felt strangely fatigued
and nauseous, walking haphazardly toward the exit gate. The immediate effects of the severe
concussion I experienced lingered for two days, but the structural damage to my brain caused
Post Concussive Syndrome, disrupting my life for years. Fatigue, anxiety, and loss of

describe the feeling was if you stuck a big ball of cotton stuck in your brain, clouding your
ability to think. I began taking classes at the local community college, but my mental faculties

and steadily pulled me out of despondency. Continued successes in politics and government courses

Character Sketch Of The Character Of Miss Maudie
Take a moment to think about the quintessential Favorite Aunt. What makes her the favorite? Does
she have a loud mouth and a strong will? Does she watch out for you no matter what? In To Kill a
Mockingbird, Harper Lee works hard to paint Miss Maudie Atkinson (Miss Maudie) in a perfectly
flawed manner. From the beginning when her house burns down, through the Tom Robinson trial,
and all the way to the end, Beautifully stubborn and fearlessly caring are two of the character traits
that define MissMaudie Atkinson (Miss Maudie) throughout the novel. Miss Maudie bases her
way of life on her beliefs, and in her beliefs she does not waver. One of the very first things we
learn about her is that she loves to garden. We also quickly learn that she is a Christian.
However, when the Baptists come by her house and tell her she s going to hell for gardening,
she does not stop. Gardening is something she loves, and she believes doing what you love
makes God happy. She doesn t care if the Baptists think she s damned, she is going to do what
she thinks is right. The unwavering persistence in her beliefs established early in the novel sets
the stage for further acts of nonconformity, such as her opposition to watching the trial of Tom
Robinson. When asked is she is going to the trial, she simply states, I am not. t s morbid, watching
a poor devil on trial for his life. Look at all those folks, it s like a Roman Carnival (159). Miss

that reflects the owner s personality. It all started when everyone complimented me on my dorm

in a lot of ways, there is no other like us. Other interior dorm design businesses are all online or
in an app. So our market structure is considered to be a monolithic competition. Which is a type
of market structure in which many other businesses sell products that are similar to us but not
identical. There are no dorm design businesses that will knock on your dorm nor move furniture
themselves. My business is an intangible service. In the near future I would like KC Design to be
worldwide in every college campus. Which means I would have to have lots of universal
employees nationwide. Our availability of substitutes can be those whom wish to design their own
rooms themselves or choose not to do business with us KC Design.

Managing Brand Equity
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to discuss and elaborate the main issues encountered in managing
brand equity. In order to achieve this purpose, we first analyse the concept of brand equity; second,
we provide a comprehensive framework for managing brand equity; and finally, we distinguish
different ways to leverage and measure brand equity. The concept of brand equity emerged in the
early 1990s. Brand equity can be regarded as a managerial concept, as a financial intangible asset,
as a relationship concept or as a customer based concept from the perspective of the individual
consumer. The main asset dimensions of brand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Difference Between Carnevale And Ham
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the practical implications of David G. Carnevale and Kay
Ham s publication Going Beyond Human Resource Management Technique found in Chapter 11 of
the Handbook of Human Resource Management in Government. The core theme of Carnevale and
Ham s article is that human resource management(HRM) should be more than just an enforcing or
technical entity. While there remains a need for policies to be written, FMLA paperwork to be
processed, classification studies to be conducted, and a bureaucratic approach that upholds
consistent execution of HR principles, HRM should play a strategic role in an organization s
development as well. HRM that operates strategically focuses on qualitative data, and leaves room
for interpretation, whereas control oriented HR methods follow a scientific, rigid formula. HRM
can be conducted in both manners, and the two paradigms can work symbiotically (Carnevale Ham,
262 263). The human resource department in Davidson County interacts with DavidsonWorks, a
county department and the local workforce development board, within two HRM paradigms
identified by Carnevale and Ham (265) as the bureaucratic side and the interpretive zone. The
bureaucratic side of the HR house assumes a more traditional HR function. In this role, the HR staff
assists with workers compensation claims, employee grievances, and other standard employee
/employer relation issues. When DavidsonWorks is actively hiring, the human

The author uses setting to convey the night of the Dunwich Horror. The setting describes the
strange things around them the night of it all starting. This can be seen in the quotation The
Dunwich horror proper begins on the night of September 9th. The hills groan, dogs howl, and a

works, of the disheveled fields he has just witnessed. Bushes and trees have been uprooted and
pushed aside as if something as large as a house has swept through the area ( The Dunwich

very pronounced during the evening, and dogs barked frantically all night. Early risers on the

What is Morality? Moral reasoning, human feelings should not affect moral judgement because

The minimum conception can be stated in a different way: Morality is the effort to guide one s

to the interests of each individual who will be affected by what one does. (Ibid: 14). May be

Learning And Development Processes Of A Child
The learning and development processes of a child have been debated for years, with no one theory
sticking out as the best explanation as to how and why we learn. Looking at the behaviourist and
humanist views of learning and development and the key theorists within them, you can see just
how different they can be with their explanations of this.
The key behaviourist views on learning are that learning is shaped by different incentives
presented to the child. External stimulus shapes learning, as it prompts a response and increases
the likelihood of the learner repeating the behaviour. Behaviourists believe development happens
as a process of learning and that it has nothing to do with pre determined stages relating to a child
s age and or mental ability. The behaviourist view works on a mix of operant and classical
conditioning, operant conditioning is a process of learning where behaviour is controlled by
consequences such as positive and negative reinforcements and positive and negative punishments.
Classical conditioning is when the learner simply responds to external stimuli in a deterministic
manner (Jordan, Carlile, and Stack, 2008).
Pavlov, a behaviourist, looked deeply into the idea of classical conditioning and involuntary

Essay on Plato s Theory of Knowledge
If the truth of all things always existed in the soul, then the soul is immortal (The Philosophical
Journey 89). This states that since the soul has all knowledge integrated, one recollects this
knowledge through situations in an individual s life and use one s reasoning. With the dialogues of
the Meno and Phaedo, Platodiscusses the ideas of recollection and immortality of the soul in
general. As well, the Republic, through the three different situations shown, Plato shows the ideas
of the forms and what is real and what is not.
In the dialogue of Meno, Socrates explains the idea of recollection with the question and answer
period between himself and the boy. Meno asks Socrates, What do you mean by saying that we do
not learn, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates ponders this thought and explains that, His soul must have always possessed this
knowledge, for he either was or was not a man (The Philosophical Journey 89). This explains
that it is an innate notion, where the soul always has the knowledge and can be obtained through
remembering said knowledge. Therefore, Socrates believes that since the truth is always inside
the soul, then it must be immortal. The soul has all knowledge, and through the process of
recollection, one can recover this information. Phaedo, the second dialogue of Plato s theory,
states that only through the forms and absolutes, an individual can have knowledge. It has been
questioned how society can have the knowledge of an absolute if we haven t discovered said
absolute. Socrates reflects, The thing which I see aims at being like some other thing, but falls
short of and cannot be like that other thing, and is inferior (The Philosophical Journey 90). That is
to say that in order to have the understanding of an absolute of something, we can derive its
meaning from the things that do not meet the requirements. In addition, to derive the
conceptualization of an absolute, an individual can only use the senses one is given. As well,
Socrates declares, From the senses then is derived the conception that all sensible equals aim at an
absolute equality of which they fall short (The Philosophical Journey 90). As a result, the senses
can only see

Essay about Daniel Keys Flowers For Algernon
CHARLY
The book Flowers For Algernon , by Daniel Keys was written in 1961. Later, Richard Heynes
decided to produce the movie in 1968 properly called Charly . There are both similarities and
differences between the two. However, the differences play a more crucial role between the two
rather then the similarities.
One major difference between the movie and book is the events that took place. One example is
when Charly met Fay. This never happened in the movie. But in the movie, when he met her he let
all of his inner feeling out into the open and had a great time. In the movie he only went away for
awhile and even then he only had what seemed to be a few short flings. With Fay, Charly was able
express himself to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donner s bakery he was never harassed by the new employee. This was when Joe Carp and the
other realized that Charly was back to his old self. Joe Carp roughed up the bully and got him fired
for his actions directed at Charly.
Another major difference between the book and movie is the traits and actions taken by the
characters. One example is Alice Kinnian. In the story, she is depicted as a quiet, non aggressive
person, but in the movie she is very much the opposite in character. For one, she never really
made a move towards Charly, however, in the movie, she is the more aggressive between the
two. Also, towards the end of the movie, Alice asked Charly to marry her and that never even
happened in the novel at all. Charly is another character who is given different traits and actions
in the movie then the book. In the book, he is a kind, warm hearted man who couldn t harm a
fly. Believe it or not in the movie Charly tried to sexually assault Alice. In the book he never ever
would have tried to do such a horrible thing to Alice. Also, he got very upset when he found out
that he failed one of the tests given to him at the laboratory. He could have cared less if he failed
in the book. Charly s family is something else that was never mentioned in the movie, and it s
probably the most important difference of them all. It is the most important because of the fact that
when Charly went to visit his family, it brought to him a great deal of happiness

Carbohydrate Loading to Enhance an Athlete s Performance
In order to reach their peak performance, many endurance athletes experiment with altering their
diet before a long race. This is because diet is particularly important for athletes who must
sustain moderate to high energy levels for long periods of time (Walker et al, 2000). In recent
years, this is where the idea of carbohydrate loading has come into play. My question deals with
the effectiveness of carbohydrate loading on the day before a competition. I want to know if
carbohydrate loading loads on the success of the individual s performance. Carbohydrates are seen
as our body s primary source of quick energy. However, they provide another significant function to
the individual. When ingested they can transform into glycogenthat is later stored in the muscles
and liver (Mayo Clinic, 2006). This glycogen in the muscles is the body s fuel for training and
competing and starts to deplete as you exercise at a high intensity (Heaner, 2004). Without
exercise, the glycogen levels of muscles remain high. Then, as the athlete trains, these levels are
used as fuel and become depleted. The resulting very low glycogen levels within an athlete are the
primary source of physical exhaustion (Peterson, 1996). In order to prevent this muscle fatigue,
athletes and their nutritionist have resorted to relying on fueling up on more carbohydrates prior to
an event (Kersick al, 2008). Some side effects to this carbohydrate rich diet include upset stomach,
diarrhea, and constipation

The Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress Essay
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is a marvelous novel, written by Dai Sijie, which
himself was re educated between 1971 and 1974 during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. In Dai
Sijie s Balzac and the Little Seamstress three separate accounts are given of an incident in which
Luo and the Little Seamstress make love in an isolated mountain pool. Two of these perspectives
are given by the participants while the third is provided by the old miller who observes their love
making from a distance. Of all the accounts, I found the count of this incident of Little Seamstress
most appealing as she is able to present at an imaginative description of this setting and allow the
readers to understand her thoughts and feelings. In contrast the... Show more content on

Her account of this incident appealed to be in part because of her description of the underwater
scenery. Her description is both visual and tactile. Similes describe the stones underwater as
small and smooth like pale eggs and others as big as human heads. She relates the description to
things which she is familiar with in her surroundings such as strangely jutting curves like
buffalo horns. The contrasting words such as smooth, sharp and jagged all help the reader
imagine the bottom of the pool. This passage also reveals a side of the Little Seamstress s
character which has not been revealed, her independence of her mind. This is where she
explains why she loves to dive for Luo s key ring. She rejects that she is I m like a silly dog that
keeps running to fetch the stick thrown by its master. I m not like those young French girls Balzac
talks about. I m a mountain girl. This shows her

Case Study Of Disneyland
I would like to choose Hong Kong Disneyland (Case 6 20) for conducting an analysis. The Walt
Disney Company was created in 1923. The mission of the company is to provide superior
entertainment experiences for the guests of all ages. Walt Disney Company opened the two theme
parks in United State. Afterwards, they adopted the international expansion strategy which opened
Disney in Tokyo and Paris. However, the outcomes of theme parks in Tokyo and Paris were very
extreme. Tokyo Disney Resortwas one of the most successful theme park in the world. On the
Contrary, Disney Resort Paris was much less successful. The major reason causes this extreme
result was the cultural differences between two countries which I would discover below.

At the beginnings, there were some startup problems encountered by them. The first problem
was about the miscalculation on the capacity limit of the park. The capacity limit of park which
HKDL estimated was 30,000 visitors per day. On the first day of the operation, there were
29,000 guests entered the park. This caused the average waiting time for the attractions more
than two hours. And the average queuing time of the restaurants was 45 minutes. HKDL has
experienced the lesson and decrease the capacity limit afterwards. On the other hand, they extend
the park s opening time by one hour and encourage weekdays visit by providing several
discounts to solve this problem. The second issue which HKDL had restricted the police or the
inspectors from hygiene department to get into the park. Unless there is a pre arrangement with
the park s security department. For examples, a guest and his daughter were in the Main Street,
U.S.A. and they were hurt by detritus. HKDL refused to call ambulance as they would not like to
damage the happiness or fantasized image of the theme park. To solve this problem Disneyland
appease the guest and his daughter with a Winnie the Pooh ride with priority

The Definition Of Public Relations Essay
Deconstructing the PRINZ definition of Public Relations
Public Relations in New Zealand is widely useful, practised and builds up an organisation s
relationships with its publics. PR in short, is essentially about communication and relationship
building. PRINZ [Public Relations Institute of New Zealand] (2009) defines PR as The deliberate,
planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an
organisation and its publics. This essay will deconstruct and critically examine this definition of
public relations in relation to PR theories. These theories being Systems Theory, Relationship
Management and Excellence Theory will be examined and applied to campaign examples. This
will give a comprehensive understanding of the theory s meanings as well as relationships with
aspects of the PRINZ definition of PR. To understand PR theories however, the term publics must
first be addressed.
Gordon (2011) describes publics as potential or actual audiences connected to various messages.
(Rawlins, 2006) furthers this statement by stating that publics ...can be employees, shareholders,
political leaders, consumers, etc. and ...are often segmented even further by demographics,
geographics, or psychographics. (p.133). Grunig and Repper (1992) expand on this saying publics
are self formed and identify organisations for attention, essentially meaning publics are groups of
people linked by a common interest or problem. PR practitioners according to (Gordon,

  • 2. A Raisin In The Sun Character Analysis A Raisin in the Sun is about the dream of the Youngers, a black family living in South Side Chicago in the 1950s. Like any family, the Youngers dream is a stitched together mosaic; as they impatiently wait for the arrival of an insurance check for ten thousand dollars, each member of the Younger clan has a slightly different dream for the money. Yet when the check actually arrives, their dreams collide. Even as the dream of each relation moves closer to reality, the family fragments. The struggle between material desires and family ideals escalates into a heavy and bittersweet drama. There are a couple of prominent themes throughout A Raisin in the Sun. There s the obvious theme to follow and work hard for your dreams, the importance of having a healthy family relationship and pride. The main focus of the play is on dreams. Each of the characters has a dream of their own. For Beneatha, she desires to go to school to become a doctor. During a scene Beneatha explains why she wants to become a doctor she wants to help people, That was what one person could do for another, fix him up sew up the problem, make him all right again. That was the most marvelous thing in the world...I wanted to do that. I always thought it was the one concrete thing in the world that a human being could do. Fix up the sick, you know and make them whole again. This was truly being God...I wanted to cure. It used to be so important to me. I wanted to cure. It used to matter. I used to care. I mean about people and how their bodies hurt... (14) Beneatha works hard and tries her best even when others, such as her boyfriend Asagai, try to discourage her. For Walter, it is his desire to make money to support his family and lead a good life. Walter tries many different methods to get money, but they were not successful. In fact due to his dissatisfaction it led him to hurt others around him. Especially in this scene where Ruth opens up to Mama about how worried she is for Walter, Mama, something is happening between Walter and me. I don t know what it is but he needs something something I can t give him anymore. He needs this chance, Lena. (187). As for Mama, it i s her dream for Travis to have a yard to play in. • 3. Post General Education Classes Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think (Albert Einstein). There are different types of teachers or instructors, those who tell, those who coach, and those who mentor their students; just as there are different types of schools and classes. Each person chooses their path and education, either with or with or without support. The teachers in general education classes typically are more proficient in one specific subject but can generally teach basics of all the traditional studies; they are not specialized or experts in any one course. Class sizes are generally too large for teachers to give each individual the needed attention needed to excel. Meanwhile in vocational or CTE classes the mentors or instructors are certified in their areas of expertise. The classes are compiled of students who want to be further taught skills needed for a profession and learn better in a more hands on atmosphere. Secondary or post general education is usually necessary to gain even basic skills needed to be proficient in the workplace. • 4. The Three Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion The boxer rebellionв€’the fight between China and Western countriesв€’has been a debate since the end of 1901. Many people have been wondering how the war happened and what were the reasons that lead to it. Although many researchers have shown the causes they have found, there will be other research that disagrees with them. This paper mainly supports the claim that suggested the three major causes of the boxer rebellion, and refutes the point that the new technologies and innovations that the West had introduced helped Chinabe more developed. It will define three main elements that leaded to the boxer uprising which are the personal and religious belief of Chinese people, the rise of Christianity, and the support of Qing dynasty. As the result of the Opium wars and Sino Japanese war, Chinese had suffered defeat, and more of foreigners came by to transform and try to rule the country (Chandler, 2012). China had been changed since the arrival of foreigners after the Opium wars and Sino Japanese war. Some Chinese accepted the changes and adapt themselves to be in worldwide whereas others still maintained their norms and values. • 5. The Social Darwinism Of The World War I American Social Darwinism For their point of view does not permit of a live and let live kind of carrying on. It is a point of view that justifies itself by a whole hearted acceptance of the worst of Neo Darwinism, the Allmacht of natural selection applied rigorously to human life and society and Kultur (p.22, Headquarters Nights by Vernon Kellogg). In the years following World War I, the Social Darwinist movement lost some of its momentum due to the unpopularity of Germany s Neo Darwinism. Support for an individualistic and nationalistic based Social Darwinism died and was replaced by the state enforced Social Darwinism of eugenics. Despite the widespread Christian attack on Darwinian tenets, Christians did not fight the eugenics movement in an effective way. Eventually, even legislatures controlled by Christians fell to the false promises of eugenics. Despite poignant criticism of eugenics among scientists in the United States, more than 30,000 individuals were forcibly sterilized. In an ironic twist of fate, the Nazis Party s adoption of American Eugenics programs led to the virtual extinction of Social Darwinism in the United States. Social Darwinism stems from a misapplication of Darwin s theory of evolution. In 1859 Charles Darwin published On The Origin of Species, which describes the mechanism for changes in the traits of a population over time. This mechanism, called natural selection, favors the survival, and hence the reproduction, of those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hearing Lips And Seeing Voices By Harry Mcgurk Multi sensory integration is a process in which sensory input from one sense organ interacts with and influences how other sense organs process this same input, and how these inputs combine to produce a cohesive and unified perceptual experience (Talsma, Senkowski, Soto Faraco, and Woldorff, 2010). A prime example of multi sensory integration is the process of speech perception which combines auditory and visual inputs to form a cohesive and comprehensive speech percept (Nath and Beauchamp, 2012). In their 1976 article Hearing Lips and Seeing Voices , Harry McGurk and John MacDonald described a perceptual phenomenon they referred to as the McGurk effect(McGurk and MacDonald, 1976). These McGurk and MacDonald studies were the first to demonstrate that visual stimuli can modify speech perception when it is presented simultaneously with incongruent auditory stimuli. These findings contested the traditional assumption that speech perception in face to face conversation was a unimodal, rather than multi sensory process, that is, a strictly auditory process that was independent of visual input (McGurk and MacDonald, 1976; Rouger, Fraysse, Degunie and Barone, 2007; MacDonald and McGurk, 1978). Although McGurk and McDonald provided valuable insight into the role of visual processes in speech perception, their initial studies did have some limitations, for example, their manner place hypothesis failed to provide a comprehensive theory of the cognitive processes involved in producing the McGurk effect. They also failed to measure their participant s lipreading performances prior to conducting their study and thus, this potential confounding variable was not taken into consideration. Furthermore, McGurk and MacDonald failed to explain why up to one third of their participants did not experience the McGurk effect at all. Since these original McGurk effect studies, there has been some debate between theorists and researchers, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Charles Darwin And Evolution Of Humans Tiger Sikka Mr. Pimentel WCIV H May 4th 2015 Charles Darwin (Intro) A man named Charles Darwin forever changed the world, especially within western civilizations. The idea of how humans and animals came to be was very confusing and there was no set reason of this. People forever wondered how they came to be on this planet. Many different ideas and theories were made, but there was no scientific reasoning on exactly the way humans and animals are here. Today, the theory is still in debate. It is possible that in the future someone may be able to figure it out, but it is also possible that it will be a mystery forever. One major belief in how humans and animals came to be was all changed through the theory of Charles Darwin and evolution through natural selection. His theory states that all life is related and has descended from a common ancestor and that natural selection brings upon evolution. Although it may or may not be the exact reason of how humans and animals came to be, it gave a huge sense of explanation of one idea that changed western civilization greatly. Because of his theory, Darwin has changed everyone s thoughts on life, (2nd argument), biology, religion, and society. FIX LATER WHEN DONE. The connections ,archetypes, can be found in the adventurous book The Odyssey. Ancient greek culture is brought up by Homer through archetypes. In the Odyssey, topics such as terrifying monsters , love tests, and an unstoppable hero are all related to ancient greek culture. The Odysseyshows archetypes that also reveal this culture. Three archetypes found are monsters, loyalty, and a hero which shows ancient greek culture for modern readers. Skull crushing and blood thirsty monsters is a common fear and an archetype. For example, in the article Monster Archetypes in the Odyssey, it states the most famous is Polyphemus, the dreaded Cyclops . Polyphemus is a massive and spine chilling monster. The scene with Polyphemus of bashing skulls against rocks is described as a horror film. The ancient greeks had their fear of mythical intimidating creatures. Another example from the same article includes masking bloodlust and cannibalism to Odysseusmen . The Laestrygonians, as said in the quote, were deceived as a normal village until they found out they were cannibals. These characters might be found in a modern horror film, Wrong Turn, so fear has not changed in the last 3,000 years. Not all monsters must be massive and strong, but they can be seductiveness. A state of pure terror seems to sink in, and I believe the worst scenario that a random stranger is coming inside my tent and slaughtering me while I m asleep. To begin with, when the day started, it seemed that the scenery was beautiful and peaceful. It appeared that the same place can have a different perspective at the drop of the sun. I had never gone camping; it always seemed like a fun thing to do with the right people. My friends wanted to celebrate my seniority and almost graduating, since they were in college themselves, and knew how important senior year of high school was. We were thinking of going on a road trip somewhere far from Fresno. We joked for a bit about going camping, and then it just seemed to happen. The whole ride there we all seemed happy with chatter, catching up on our gossip. In total we were three girls and two guys. Once we arrived I could smell the deep aura of pine and green woods. The trees were basked in sun, giving of a cool shade; the branches of the trees seemed to follow the movements of the silent breeze that passed. Birds seem to fly by slowly almost lazily, there chirping heard from a distant as they passed. As soon as that tent was up I went on a walk to go exploring. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carnevale and Kay Ham s publication Going Beyond Human Resource Management Technique found in Chapter 11 of the Handbook of Human Resource Management in Government. The core theme of Carnevale and Ham s article is that human resource management(HRM) should be more than just an enforcing or technical entity. While there remains a need for policies to be written, FMLA paperwork to be processed, classification studies to be conducted, and a bureaucratic approach that upholds consistent execution of HR principles, HRM should play a strategic role in an organization s development as well. HRM that operates strategically focuses on qualitative data, and leaves room for interpretation, whereas control oriented HR methods follow a scientific, rigid formula. HRM can be conducted in both manners, and the two paradigms can work symbiotically (Carnevale Ham, 262 263). The human resource department in Davidson County interacts with DavidsonWorks, a county department and the local workforce development board, within two HRM paradigms identified by Carnevale and Ham (265) as the bureaucratic side and the interpretive zone. The bureaucratic side of the HR house assumes a more traditional HR function. In this role, the HR staff assists with workers compensation claims, employee grievances, and other standard employee /employer relation issues. When DavidsonWorks is actively hiring, the human ... • 40. Learning And Development Processes Of A Child The learning and development processes of a child have been debated for years, with no one theory sticking out as the best explanation as to how and why we learn. Looking at the behaviourist and humanist views of learning and development and the key theorists within them, you can see just how different they can be with their explanations of this. The key behaviourist views on learning are that learning is shaped by different incentives presented to the child. External stimulus shapes learning, as it prompts a response and increases the likelihood of the learner repeating the behaviour. Behaviourists believe development happens as a process of learning and that it has nothing to do with pre determined stages relating to a child s age and or mental ability. The behaviourist view works on a mix of operant and classical conditioning, operant conditioning is a process of learning where behaviour is controlled by consequences such as positive and negative reinforcements and positive and negative punishments. Classical conditioning is when the learner simply responds to external stimuli in a deterministic manner (Jordan, Carlile, and Stack, 2008). Pavlov, a behaviourist, looked deeply into the idea of classical conditioning and involuntary responses to stimuli. • 41. Essay on Plato s Theory of Knowledge If the truth of all things always existed in the soul, then the soul is immortal (The Philosophical Journey 89). This states that since the soul has all knowledge integrated, one recollects this knowledge through situations in an individual s life and use one s reasoning. With the dialogues of the Meno and Phaedo, Platodiscusses the ideas of recollection and immortality of the soul in general. As well, the Republic, through the three different situations shown, Plato shows the ideas of the forms and what is real and what is not. In the dialogue of Meno, Socrates explains the idea of recollection with the question and answer period between himself and the boy. Meno asks Socrates, What do you mean by saying that we do not learn, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates ponders this thought and explains that, His soul must have always possessed this knowledge, for he either was or was not a man (The Philosophical Journey 89). This explains that it is an innate notion, where the soul always has the knowledge and can be obtained through remembering said knowledge. Therefore, Socrates believes that since the truth is always inside the soul, then it must be immortal. The soul has all knowledge, and through the process of recollection, one can recover this information. Phaedo, the second dialogue of Plato s theory, states that only through the forms and absolutes, an individual can have knowledge. It has been questioned how society can have the knowledge of an absolute if we haven t discovered said absolute. Socrates reflects, The thing which I see aims at being like some other thing, but falls short of and cannot be like that other thing, and is inferior (The Philosophical Journey 90). That is to say that in order to have the understanding of an absolute of something, we can derive its meaning from the things that do not meet the requirements. In addition, to derive the conceptualization of an absolute, an individual can only use the senses one is given. As well, Socrates declares, From the senses then is derived the conception that all sensible equals aim at an absolute equality of which they fall short (The Philosophical Journey 90). As a result, the senses can only see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Essay about Daniel Keys Flowers For Algernon CHARLY The book Flowers For Algernon , by Daniel Keys was written in 1961. Later, Richard Heynes decided to produce the movie in 1968 properly called Charly . There are both similarities and differences between the two. However, the differences play a more crucial role between the two rather then the similarities. One major difference between the movie and book is the events that took place. One example is when Charly met Fay. This never happened in the movie. But in the movie, when he met her he let all of his inner feeling out into the open and had a great time. In the movie he only went away for awhile and even then he only had what seemed to be a few short flings. With Fay, Charly was able express himself to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Donner s bakery he was never harassed by the new employee. This was when Joe Carp and the other realized that Charly was back to his old self. Joe Carp roughed up the bully and got him fired for his actions directed at Charly. Another major difference between the book and movie is the traits and actions taken by the characters. One example is Alice Kinnian. In the story, she is depicted as a quiet, non aggressive person, but in the movie she is very much the opposite in character. For one, she never really made a move towards Charly, however, in the movie, she is the more aggressive between the two. Also, towards the end of the movie, Alice asked Charly to marry her and that never even happened in the novel at all. Charly is another character who is given different traits and actions in the movie then the book. In the book, he is a kind, warm hearted man who couldn t harm a fly. Believe it or not in the movie Charly tried to sexually assault Alice. In the book he never ever would have tried to do such a horrible thing to Alice. Also, he got very upset when he found out that he failed one of the tests given to him at the laboratory. He could have cared less if he failed in the book. Charly s family is something else that was never mentioned in the movie, and it s probably the most important difference of them all. It is the most important because of the fact that when Charly went to visit his family, it brought to him a great deal of happiness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Carbohydrate Loading to Enhance an Athlete s Performance In order to reach their peak performance, many endurance athletes experiment with altering their diet before a long race. This is because diet is particularly important for athletes who must sustain moderate to high energy levels for long periods of time (Walker et al, 2000). In recent years, this is where the idea of carbohydrate loading has come into play. My question deals with the effectiveness of carbohydrate loading on the day before a competition. I want to know if carbohydrate loading loads on the success of the individual s performance. Carbohydrates are seen as our body s primary source of quick energy. However, they provide another significant function to the individual. When ingested they can transform into glycogenthat is later stored in the muscles and liver (Mayo Clinic, 2006). This glycogen in the muscles is the body s fuel for training and competing and starts to deplete as you exercise at a high intensity (Heaner, 2004). Without exercise, the glycogen levels of muscles remain high. Then, as the athlete trains, these levels are used as fuel and become depleted. The resulting very low glycogen levels within an athlete are the primary source of physical exhaustion (Peterson, 1996). In order to prevent this muscle fatigue, athletes and their nutritionist have resorted to relying on fueling up on more carbohydrates prior to an event (Kersick al, 2008). Some side effects to this carbohydrate rich diet include upset stomach, diarrhea, and constipation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress Essay Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is a marvelous novel, written by Dai Sijie, which himself was re educated between 1971 and 1974 during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. In Dai Sijie s Balzac and the Little Seamstress three separate accounts are given of an incident in which Luo and the Little Seamstress make love in an isolated mountain pool. Two of these perspectives are given by the participants while the third is provided by the old miller who observes their love making from a distance. The contrasting words such as smooth, sharp and jagged all help the reader imagine the bottom of the pool. This passage also reveals a side of the Little Seamstress s character which has not been revealed, her independence of her mind. This is where she explains why she loves to dive for Luo s key ring. • 45. Case Study Of Disneyland I would like to choose Hong Kong Disneyland (Case 6 20) for conducting an analysis. The Walt Disney Company was created in 1923. The mission of the company is to provide superior entertainment experiences for the guests of all ages. Walt Disney Company opened the two theme parks in United State. Afterwards, they adopted the international expansion strategy which opened Disney in Tokyo and Paris. However, the outcomes of theme parks in Tokyo and Paris were very extreme. Tokyo Disney Resortwas one of the most successful theme park in the world. On the Contrary, Disney Resort Paris was much less successful. This caused the average waiting time for the attractions more than two hours. And the average queuing time of the restaurants was 45 minutes. • 46. The Definition Of Public Relations Essay Deconstructing the PRINZ definition of Public Relations Public Relations in New Zealand is widely useful, practised and builds up an organisation s relationships with its publics. PR in short, is essentially about communication and relationship building. PRINZ [Public Relations Institute of New Zealand] (2009) defines PR as The deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an organisation and its publics. This essay will deconstruct and critically examine this definition of public relations in relation to PR theories. These theories being Systems Theory, Relationship Management and Excellence Theory will be examined and applied to campaign examples. This will give a comprehensive understanding of the theory s meanings as well as relationships with aspects of the PRINZ definition of PR. To understand PR theories however, the term publics must first be addressed. Gordon (2011) describes publics as potential or actual audiences connected to various messages. (Rawlins, 2006) furthers this statement by stating that publics ...can be employees, shareholders, political leaders, consumers, etc. and ...are often segmented even further by demographics, geographics, or psychographics. (p.133). Grunig and Repper (1992) expand on this saying publics are self formed and identify organisations for attention, essentially meaning publics are groups of people linked by a common interest or problem. PR practitioners according to (Gordon, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
