The Puzzle Of I Will Go Back Home
Since arriving and taking the hard decision to stay in USA, I have been dreaming and
envisioning the moment I will go back home. This country with millions of miles of highways,
crowded metropolises, sunny beaches, lush rainforests and endless possibilities has been a
foundation for a new beginning. It wasn t easy to preserver and succeed all alone in this new
world. Falling in love, getting married and starting a family has been a blessing which gave me
a purpose for all those countless days of hard work and endeavor to achieve my dreams. Even
though after five years everything was coming in to place and I felt truly happy, something was
still missing. The puzzle of joyful life was not complete. A vivid memory is the day that me and
my wife took the spontaneous decision to take a trip to the land I call home. It was a beautiful and
chilly Sunday morning in Orem Utah. Quiet and piece was surrounding our apartment complex. The
thick shadows of the tall pinetrees were covering the terrace screens. Our doors were open to clear
out the heavy smell of burned bacon still sizzling on the stove. It was that morning, which in a split
second, me and my wife took the spontaneous decision that we are going on a trip.
It is a torturous seventeen hours flight from Utah to Eastern Europe. Arriving at the Salt Lake City
airport suddenly hit me that my feelings of joy and excitement were exactly the opposite for my
wife. I could see her staring outside the shuttle windows with an

Aztec Culture And The Aztec Civilization
Aztec culture flourished in the highlands of central Mexico between the twelfth and sixteenth
centuries, AD. As the last in a series of complex urban civilizations in Mesoamerica, the Aztecs
adopted many traits and institutions from their predecessors such as the Maya and Teotihuacan.
The Aztecs also devised many innovations, particularly in the realms of economics and politics.
Azteccivilization was destroyed at its height by the invasion of Spanish conquerors under
Hernando CortГ©s in 1519. The Aztecs, like many other Mesoamerican cultures, used a limited
form of writing that consisted of pictorial representations painted on bark paper and animal
hides. (Diego 8). The Aztecs were a very religious group, many of their traditions and recorded
history has been related to the religion of the Aztec civilization. Even after the Aztec culture was
dominated by the Spaniards, religion was still a big part of Mesoamerican culture. Regardless of
what happened to the Aztecs, religion never strayed from them even if their beliefs changed. The
Aztec empire stretched throughout large portions of what is now Mexico and was powerful native
empires that was created during its time period, the Aztecs though were immigrants of this area.
According to their pictorial histories the Aztec peoples claimed to have migrated to central Mexico
from a place in the north called Aztlan (Diego 10). The Aztec immigrants arrived in central Mexico
during a time of low population and abundant land so it

Her afternoons are for calling an applicant that fit the criteria of positions. If interviews are
scheduled, they are done all in one day, as a panel interview (HR, Manager and Engineer) every
30 minutes with a 15 break in between to review and candidate. Since we were talking about
interviews I asked about how she approaches interviews, what is her game plan and what is she
trying to find out; she mentioned that they have a panel interview and all questions are pre
selected by managers. Every interviewer is asked the same question. Every panel member asks
the same question. Only variations are if the answer might require additional questions to get to
the root of the answer. They are behavior based questions. After all interviews are conducted they,
mangers, make a final decision. Identify, Attract and Retain Candidates One constant trend
throughout many organizations if not all is the struggle in finding qualified candidates to fill job
openings. Not only is it difficult to recruit skilled workers, but also to retain them. Going back to
my parent s work experience, companies expected job loyalty, but today, I noticed and read stories
of employees accepting other job offers only weeks after being hired. I wonder if people have
changed or is it that employers are not able to satisfy employees. To completive and win the battle
for workforce share, organizations should rethink their strategies to effectively recruit, motivate,
and retain committed employees.

Altruism Or Self-Interest Research Paper
Citizenship: altruism or self interest?
What does it mean to be a citizen? Or what does it mean to be a republican citizen? Every thinker
will give a different definition to the concept of citizenship through history. Sometimes their
definition will nuance just slightly. In the classical definition of citizenship, Aristotle and some
other thinkers see the citizen as an active, political being (P35). An active citizen is the one who
will get involved in the activities of her or his community. In the self govern republic, the citizen
will get involve in the political life. However, the political requires some sacrifice, at least one
has to dedicate her or his time at the expenses of his personal life. In fact, Dagger suggests states
that the citizen has to be prepared to [...] set aside their private interest when necessary for the
public as a whole (P17). Many will interpret this as a need for the citizen to sacrifice his personal
interest for others, the community. Therefore, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Dagger, the republican conception acknowledges that even the good citizens should
not forsake self interest altogether (P19). How does it work then? How can you be very active in
your community and still be able to aim your own goal? Tocqueville will explain that they go
together. He stated that paying taxes, serving on jury, obeying the laws and attending public affairs
require time [...], but such sacrifices are necessary if we want to preserve republican government
and continue to enjoy the rights of the citizens. In other words, the citizens know they have to
seek the good for their community because this will also allow them to achieve their personal
goal as well. They will participate in the government, they will participate when it comes to make
law because they want to protect their right of self govern. Also, they will obey to these laws
because this is the only way to preserve their own

The American Dream In Jon Krakauer s Into The Wild
The major tenets of the quintessential American dream can be found in the ideology of every
person proud to be an American. The America seen today is not the same as it was 50 years
prior, so how can one expect the central dream to be the same? In fact, each person has developed
an opinion on what the American dream may mean for him/her. For one, the dream may still be
the white picket fence still life from so many years ago, but for another, it may be the accumulation
of riches and fame. In Jon Krakauers Into the Wild, he shows us that Chris McCandless cared not
for the quotidian rat race he had grown so accustomed to, but more for the intricacies that the
natural world had to offer. I believe that although Chris McCandless may not have made it out of
Alaska alive, he still succeeded in discovering what he went there for, and in turn died fulfilling his
own American dream.
The dictionary defines the American dream as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity
traditionally held to be available to every American. Chris McCandless came from a wealthy
family with everything he could ever need being provided for him. His parents had achieved the
conventional American dream. They had enough money to provide for their family and then some,
a nice home, and a good education for the whole family. To the outsider looking in, it would be
easy to assume that Chris McCandless had a perfect life full of everything he desired and
unrelenting happiness. This was not the case.

Why Is Bilingualism Important In Canada
Canada has a very unique cultural aspect that not many countries share. It is one of just eleven
countries that has official policies of bilingualism(1). This mix of languages is a result of two
different Colonial empires trying to claim the same land. At first, these two cultures often clashed
and did not fraternize at all. As the years went on however, the two tongues learned to accept one
another. After accepting one another they morphed into one bilingual culturethat Canadian s from
the Atlantic to the Pacific came to love and express. Nowadays politics in Canadais constantly
revolving around bilingualism and how it can be preserved. To give a some context through history

Analysis Of Raymond Carver s Cathedral
In Raymond Carver s short story, Cathedral , we meet the character who is never named, and who
is known as the narrator to us. Although the narrator s character changed towards the end, and we
don t really learn much after the change of his personality, it is still a gradual change that took
place. The narrator s attitude is very important in the story because it revolves around him and the
way he views things. This short storyis about a man who is married to a woman, and this woman
has been friends with a blind man who is going to visit her at her home, after his wife has just
passed away. The narrator does not like the idea of the blind man visiting his home, and finds
himself very uncomfortable about the visit. He criticizes everything the blind man does, and
does not understand that there is more to life than just having eyesight. The narrator has a
change of insight at the end of the short story due to the blind man named Robert, who shows
him there is more to life than not being able to see. The narrator in this story is a dynamic
character. In the beginning of the story we learn that the narrator is not into the blind man
visiting him in his home, as he states, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one
(Carver 448). The narrator shows signs of jealousy towards the blind man, as his wife speaks of
him very highly, and he is very close to his wife. He is very close minded at the beginning of the
story. When he was told that the blind man was married, he

Why Do Peasants Live In The Middle Class
Life was very hard for peasants. Unlike the King and Queen, peasants would have to work.
Peasants would have to work super hard in order to make money but most years peasants
wouldn t earn much money because they would have to pay taxes to the King. Even after that
peasants would usually have to work from 3am till midnight.Being the in the lower class made
their lives even harder. Knights and nobles were in a medium class so they got things like land,
crops and clothes from the king for there family. On the other hand the peasants would have to pay
in order to even enter the castle that the King and Queen lived in. School would be very expensive
so only the royals would attend. Due to that most peasants wouldn t have many options for jobs

Antisocial Personality Disorder Is Not A New Phenomena
Antisocial personality disorder is not a new phenomena. For centuries, people both rich and poor,
successful, unsuccessful, praised and despised could be diagnosed as being a sociopath. Antisocial
personality disorder is a type of chronic mental condition in which a person s ways of thinking,
perceiving situations and relating to others are dysfunctional, and destructive. There are two major
types of psychological disorders. Antisocial personality disorderand Borderline personality
disorder. They do share some of the same symptoms so diagnosis could be difficult. Anger, self
control issues, and frequent emotional outbursts are the most documented commonalities. (Licht,
Hull, Ballantyne, n.d.) But where people with Borderline disorders are more prone to self
deprivation, antisocial behavior sufferers tend to affect others directly with their behavior. Some of
the symptoms more specific to a sociopath include disregard of typical morals, persistent
exploitation or manipulation for personal gain or sheer personal pleasure, repeated use of
intimidation, dishonesty and misrepresentation, hostility, impulsiveness, aggression. Violent or
poor and abusive relationships, both past and present, also seems to be a common theme in
subjects with both disorders. (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2013) But I think that, because there smaller
percentage of sociopathic cases, and they affect both sexes, I will look into that aspect of
psychological disorders. While there are varying degrees to

The American Nurse Association ( Ana ) Code Of Ethics
Healthcare organizations are committed to providing clients with quality service and experience
while promoting safety, health, and healing. Nurses have the biggest impact in providing safe
client care and are known for their commitment in improving or increasing client health. However,
this ethical commitment may not always be met due to breakdowns in healthcare delivery.
Deviations such as adoption of unsafe practices or behaviors can lead to sentinel events. Any
disconnects or disruptions can be a detriment to client care. This paper will present recent cases of
witnessed breakdowns of facility protocols that have led to adoptions of unsafe nursing practices,
discuss its impact to healthcare, and how it has affected my personal perspective on the issue.
Provision three of the American Nurse Association (ANA) Code of Ethics states that the nurse
promotes, advocates for, and protects the rights, health, and safety of the patient. Within this
standard, it specifies that nurses have a professional responsibility in promoting a culture of safety
(American Nurse Association [ANA], 2015). As nursing students, we have the privilege of working
with nurses in different departments during clinical rotations. Nursing students are able to observe
the ethical application and inattention/negligence of this provision through the use of evidence
based practice as well as unhealthy practices, respectively. While on clinical rotation, the most

The Book Of Bauqua Summary
The Biography of Baquaqua: An Analysis of the Importance of the Conversion to Christianity in
the Liberation of Baquaqua This historical study will identify the important aspect of liberation
and Christianity conversion that is defined in the Biography of Baquaqua. In Baquaqua s arrival in
New York and, eventually, Boston, it becomes apparent that he receives strong support from
Baptist religious groups that want to liberate him from slavery. The Abolitionist Movement in the
United States provides an example of Baquaqua s conversion to Christianity, which made it
possible for him to become a freeman after many years of being abused as a slave. In many cases,

that freed slaves during the mid 19th century. Baquaqua s story provides evidence of the
important role of the American Free Baptist Movement providing educational, financial, and
transportation assistance to Baquaqua in order to escape the bonds of slavery. The role of Mr.
Jones and R. Mr. Judd provide accurate examples of the influence of the Baptist faith on
Baquaqua, which inspired him to convert to Christianity in Haiti. However, the implicit bias of
Christian influence on Baquaqua may be questionable during his stay in New York and Boston,
yet the more concrete example of R. Mr. Judd s influence on Baquaqua seems to confirm the
conversion process as part of the liberation of Baquaqua from slavery during this time of his life.
In this manner, evidence taken from the primary source of Baquaqua s narrative provides a deeper
understanding of the impact of Christian abolitionist movements in the liberation and freedom of
former slaves during the 19th century. The Biography of Baquaqua defines the important role of
Christian missionary groups and abolitionist organizations that made it possible to combat the
atrocities of slavery through Baquaqua s own experiences as a free slave in New England and in

Weight Loss Supplements On The Market Essay
Okay, so there really is no mystery about weight loss supplements. In this day and age, anyone of
average intelligence or better knows that weight loss supplements are worthless. Sadly, it does
not seem to be so. Suppliers of weight loss supplements are still making millions of unethical
dollars, and purchasers of these products are still waddling away disappointed with the results.
Hope springs eternal, I guess. When it comes to losing weight, we all want to take that magic
pill that will shed those unwanted pounds without having to sacrifice our beloved food or
having to suffer through the rigors of consistent exercise. And there is always someone trying to
tell you that that magic pill actually does exist, and that for a few measly dollars they will be
happy to sell it to you. It doesn t exist, so save your money. If you still believe in those magic
pills, check the instructions of any weight loss supplement on the market. Each and every one of
them that I have seen has listed as the most important part of the instructions to eat less and
exercise more in combination with the miracle drug. Um ... if you eat less and exercise more, is
it really necessary to put some foreign substance in your body? Won t you simply lose weight from
eating less and exercising more? Sure you will. If it were easy to eat less and exercise more,
nobody would be looking for that magic pill. But that magic pill can t even pretend to work if you
don t eat less and exercise more. Hmm. Some

No Child Left Behind
In the case of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), is politics the enemy of problem solving? By
examining selected political controversies surrounding NCLB, it will be demonstrated that politics
is the enemy. Since NCLB s enactment, vast amounts of research literature and news stories have
been published on its effects, which demonstrates the impact and debate generated by this law. The
major goals of this bipartisan legislation were to improve student performance through standardized
testing by using data from annual test scores to measure each students and schools progress; to
close the achievement gap between disadvantaged students and their better off counterparts; and to
hold teachers and schools accountable. All these actions were to... Show more content on

The aim is to fix low performing schools. Schools and teachers would be held accountable, for
low performance and the law was considered by many to be overly punitive rather than
supportive (Jost, Ravitch). AYP leads to the next criticism of an NCLB outcome: narrowing of
the curriculum. Because so much depends on how schools fare on these high stakes tests, in
many schools, especially low performing schools, fewer subjects are being taught, so more
emphasis can be put on teaching reading and math and less time is being spent on developing
children s problem solving and critical thinking skills (Ravitch, Stecher, et.al.). Furthermore, to
make room for honing test taking skills, less time is being spent on teaching subjects in general.
This practice is often referred to teaching to the test. The fact that too much time is spent working
on practice tests is more than likely an unintended consequence of the law. Not only have schools
modified their curriculum, but also states have adjusted their educational standards so that they
are able to achieve NCLB s requirement of AYP of 100 percent proficiency. Students fell victim to
what many observers called the school districts decisions to dumb down the standards for
measuring proficiency. It s a lot easier to push down your

Difference Between Studying Medicine And Studying Business
Studying Medicine vs. Studying Business Medicine and business are the most popular career
options for freshman students . While comparing and contrasting them we can see a lot of
differences and similarities. These are two of the most demanding choices and both have a variety
of options. Even though both careers demand sacrifice, discipline and pressure, it will depend on
the student to choose a career that will go according to time and cost available to spend and the
income amount he wishes.
One of the most notable differences between these two vocations is time. It takes a lot of years to
complete a medical career. Because these major changes over time, new things get discovered such
as medicine and cures. The basic studies begin with pre medicine that takes at least 6 years and
each degree can take 4 years each. Medical students also have to do internships and hospital

Medicine requires a lot of commitment and intelligence capability. It s entirely based on studying,
working hard and persistence. Likewise, business also has a lot of pressure, you need to be
innovative and have a lot of passion for it. The career is also oversaturated and unstable due to
external factors that affect it like the economy. Business is about playing with the economy to your
advantage, being clever and able to handle the demand and compromise.
Another visible difference between them is the opportunities and options. Medicine has a variety
of openings, you can even decide what to specialize in while still studying your bachelors. You
can have multiple degrees, take several courses and specialize in many different fields. There are a
lot of different job options as well, that include some of the highest paying tasks in the world.

Positive And Negative Aspects Of Living In An...
We are told we live in a network society. But is this just good news? What are the positive and
negative aspects of living in a highly interconnected world? Discuss with reference to techno
optimists and techno pessimists.
We live in a highly interconnected world due to the increase in technologyin our everyday lives,
Marshall McLuhan calls this world interconnected by an electronic nervous system a global village
(McLuhan n.d.). Theorists for example Manuel Castells call this new social structure the network
society he defines the network society as a social structure made of networks in all the key
dimensions of social organisation and social practice (Castells and Castells 2010). The internet of
things is a networked world of connected devices, objects, and people (Greengard 2015). This
technology has the potential to help people in many ways but could it also be used to spy on users
in particular the controversy around Samsung smart TV s.
The Samsung smart TV includes; voice recognition, auto detection of devices plugged in, smart
view which connects with your phone (Samsung TV: SUHD, Smart TV n.d.) and some versions
also included motion control. A techno optimist would say all this technology increases the user
experience and ease of usage. Users can navigate the system with a small gesture or word without
having to get up for the remote. This is the lean back experience and it is enhanced by making it
easier and more natural interacting with the technology, to heighten the overall viewing
experience.( Visualizing the Future of User Experience | Smart TV n.d.). The Samsung smart hub
also allows users access to multiple apps and streaming sites all in one place(Samsung Smart Hub
n.d.). Convergence of media platforms blending of the media, telecommunications and computer
industries (Grant and Wilkinson 2009) and uniting them in one place benefits the user as they only
need one device to access everything on.
Opposing this view many may argue that technology is making us lazy and taking away control
from the user. Marshall McLuhan famously quoted the medium is the message meaning that the
medium has a greater impact on society than the message delivered by it. Consequently, the smart

Thankful for Secret Santa
(Emmia, David, Jason and others have been abruptly snatched from their normal lives and placed
in a hotel in modern day time, completely sealed off from the outside world. Though this was all
quite confusing and terrifying for them at first, they have since adjusted and are now experiencing
the tensions of being trapped in a hotelof moderate size with friends and enemies alike. Winter has
come around, and perhaps something or someone will start to reveal some details of why they are
trapped in such a strange place. Or maybe it will just screw with their fragile minds. Enjoy.)
Emmia really wished, on occasion, that other people could be as imaginative as herself. True, that
might sound rather conceited, but take Jason, for instance. Since their unexpected and jarring
capture, he had chosen to take the room with the adjoining door to hers, so they could visit each
other without having to get an extra keycard. It had been hard enough figuring out how to even
work those seemingly useless pieces of plastic. Syne had made the breakthrough in the end, much
to Emmia s and everyone else s grudging thankfulness. When they had all chosen their spots to, as
they thought about a month ago, take up temporary residence, Jason had stuck with her, and at first
she couldn t have been happier. He was one of her last steadfast friends. It was comforting to know
that he wanted to be near enough so they could spend time together regularly. But now something

Parable Of The Black Veil
The mystery, curiosity and suspicion that an ordinary old man can bring to himself with only
wearing a black veil. Mr. Hooper the minister with a black veil has everyone interested in what
he has to hide, not only that but also understand why he began to wear it in the first place. This
black veil alone had costed him many things like his wife, his friends, and the children to fear
him. in this manner Mr. Hooper spent a long life, irreproachable in outward act, yet shrouded in
dismal suspicions; kind and loving, though unloved, and dimly feared; a man apart from men
(1259) , yet the protagonist does not take it off no matter what others say about him. He keeps his
veil on to teach a lesson and to prove that the black veil is the item that keeps their secrets hidden.
He keeps the veil on as a representation of not only his secret sin but also wears it to represent the
darkness that humanity has committed. Yet after wearing this... Show more content on

To start, the black veil is the symbol of sin and also proves that no one in this life or any other
life is perfect. After that comes the thought that everyone, even myself, has a symbolic veil,
similar to that of Mr. Hooper, that covers our sins from others. The final theme represented in
this story would be that people should not focus on the sins of others but instead look at their
own sins. To look for a way of redemption to their own sins before they could start looking at
other people s sins. So to sum it up the main theme of this is that everyone commits sins and of
course this is a normal thing because no one in this world is perfect. Yet that does not mean that
others should be so concerned with the sins of others. Instead look for a way of redemption,
focus on the secret sins you have committed first. Because one day, as Mr. Hooper once said, There
is a hour to come when all of us shall cast aside our veils

Essay about My Mother’s Dining Room
My favorite place in my mother s house is the dining room. Every year, my mother s house is

Competitive Bass Fishing
How did Bass fishing become a sport?
Fishing has always been a way to collect food, but did you know how it became a competitive
sport? It all started with a game of basketball. I am sure you are thinking to yourself; a game of
basketball is how fishing tournaments came about?
It all started with a man by the name of Ray Scott in 1968. While watching a basketball game he
thought of the idea of competitive Bass fishing. He than began to brainstorm ideas and write down
the rules of fishing tournaments. Later that year, he held the first All American Bass Tournament.
After that tournament, competitive Bass fishing took off like a 10 pound Bass taking away your
fishing pole.

The Political Strategy Of Versailles And Versailles
Just as he did with his ballet performances, Louis continued to infuse theatricality into his
political strategy by creating spectacles that captured his nobles attention and demonstrated their
king s immense power to them. Principally, there was Versailles, which represents the most
tangible example of Louis use of spectacles to establish and flaunt power. In Louis political
strategy of utilizing spectacle, perception was reality, and he used France s perception of him to
validate and reinforce the reality of his power. Versailles represented a concrete way to
constantly remind his potential enemies some of whom were nobles that he forced to live with
him in Versailles after the Fronde of his power. Versailles represented luxury and extravagance
on the grandest scale. The Primi Visconti described that there is no mine in the world as valuable
as Versailles. The grandeur of Versailles reflected and reinforced the grandeur of Louis, thereby
building up his power, because Versailles was Louis in a sense. Just as Louis was the Sun King,
Versailles was the sun palace, brimming with solar symbolism. Again, art became potent political
propaganda. Furthermore, Louis used Versailles to throw magnificent parties, spectacles that
served as tools to control his nobles conception of their monarch. In short, Versailles was festivity
remembered. The most famous of these parties, The Pleasures of the Enchanted Isle, occurred in
1664. This festival told the story of a sorceress who enchants a troupe of knights, and the function
of the festival itself followed much the same storyline. Through the extravagance of the festival,
Louis much like the sorceress enchanted his court with a dizzying series of fascinating spectacles
[that] demonstrated the magic of royal power. While Versailles and its accompanying festivities
represented artistic means through which Louis reinforced his power, he also utilized more
practical spectacles. During his reign, Louis grew the French army tremendously from only a few
thousand men to over 100,00 men in peacetime and over 400,000 men in war time. Obviously, this
growth had practical reasons, as a bellicose ruler demands a large army, but it also demonstrates
Louis innate ability

The Mind Of A Gambler s Mind
Have you ever wondered what goes on inside a gambler s mind? What cunning techniques, slick
secrets, and daring ideas run through the mind of a man who survives by turning the odds in his
favor. It is one thing to be lucky, but to consistently beat an entire business at its own game is truly
an amazing and bewildering thing.
The first step to beating the system is learning the rules. This is only common sense, one must
know the rules in order to find ways around them. A gambler may spend weeks memorizing each
rule, both written and unwritten, before he even considers going into a casino. After this, he may
spend several more months learning how to beat these rules and perfecting the tricks.
After a gambler feels he/she has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After a few days, the gambler will select a new place to try his so called luck at a new target.
This time, however, he will be different. He will be more sure of himself, possibly a little more
cocky, more polished with every bit of experience he gains. To a person who doesn t know what
to look for, this could be taken as a positive change. That would be a false accusation. In all
reality, this makes the gambler easier to mark as a professional, meaning he will be watched
more carefully. At the first sign of counting cards or anything of the sort, he could be asked to
leave. This makes his confidence his greatest weakness, because confidence leads to arrogance,
arrogance to carelessness, and carelessness to mistakes. The process was very well described by
gambler Hunter S. Thompson when he said Gambling can turn into a dangerous two way street.
When you least expect it, weird things happen, and your life can go all to pieces.
Now that you have a bit of knowledge on the subject, let s look at some examples from
BranyQuote.com, a website that has a large compilation of quotes from all kinds of gamblers. First,
we have one man who retained his mental state and did not become a victim of gambling. No
presidential candidate should visit Las Vegas without condemning organized gambling (Ralph
Nader). However, others, such as Hunter S. Thompson, let it consume them completely. Thompson
proved this when he said Without gambling, I would not exist.

Reflection About Math
Math is the language of the universe. It is used in every subject and understand it is absolutely
imperative. As highschool comes to an end and college is about to start, math is one of those
subjects that can be a pain in the butt to remind yourself how to do some topics. This project has
helped me understand the type of math I will be exposed to on the placement testand what type of
questions to expect. I chose to complete the Maryland placement test as I have some interest to
attend. It has also exposed me to the college lifestyle a little and got me insight of application and
what courses are required. I have concluded that these tests were a useful tool to measure my math
skills on the colgate level.
These tests were surprising in some aspects and in others very predictable. For one, I expected
them to be much longer and more thorough. I expected their to be open ended questions and less
multiple choice. I was surprised by the simplicity of some questions, but on contrasty, other
questions were more challenging than what I was anticipating. I was also surprised at the lack
of variety in questions. Much of the questions were the same format just with different number.
But for the most part, I was not too caught off guard by any of the questions, as I had learned
them all in my 4 year years at JCHS. The only things that I must address is reminding myself on
some of the older material that I learned in my freshman and junior years here. The test was
easier than I expected, although it was not easy. I expected the test to be very complicated and
to include difficult questions. Instead, it had simpler questions but were still a challenge. For
example, the concept of a problem could be fairly easy, but the numbers are hard to work with
or had fractions in them. On this test, calculators were permitted and were a huge help to me.
This tells myself that I need to get better at mental math to save time on tests and to not rely on
calculators so much. Mental math has always been difficult for me, but mastering it can be
greatly beneficial to my math. The test can be taken online or in person, it is really up to the
person. I personally would prefer an in person test, as I feel writing the problems out with pencil

They feel like doctors must perform Medical Assisted on any eligible patient, regardless of what
that doctor s beliefs about the matter are. To those who have good common sense, this belief
seems almost entirely irrationally. Yet as this state of mind commonly arises in the populace, I
will briefly respond to it. Let us begin by discussing this topic in legal terms, by once again
going back to the American Declaration of Independence. As in the previous case, law and
government are entirely matters of interpretation and so the liberty and life previously mentioned
mean that a doctor or a member of a medical staff is at liberty to refuse to take the life of another
person for reasons which are not relating to discrimination. In fact, A majority of doctors approve
of the practice of physician assisted suicide, but most say they would not perform it themselves

(Assisted) The most probable reason for this, is that these doctors believe that Medical Assisted
Suicide interferes with the practices of their own religious beliefs. This is quite frequent, as
according to deathwithdignity.org, more than twenty widespread religions, or sects of religions, are
commonly opposed to Medical Assisted Suicide. Among these are Anglicans, Baptists, Buddhists,

Application Of A Software Development Model
Introducing RSDM into an organization 1.0 Introduction The value of software in meeting the

Early American Indian Pottery History
Introduction Ceramic making is still a popular tradition today in the Americas, especially on
Native Indian Reservations, like in Western, North Carolina. The use of ceramics, however, is
quite different than the way it was used by the natives during the Middle Woodland Period.
Today, pottery is mainly made for decoration or art purposes by modern day Americans, but
according to Wallis (2011), about 3,000 years ago the use of pottery became a very common use
and practiced tradition among the native people who lived during that time period. The Swift Creek
cultureand the Cherokee Indians had very similar methods in formulating ceramics. The
archaeological findings of these artifacts states that one group had been more advanced designs
on their vessels. This reason is most likely because of the materials that one group was able to
access in their area that the other group did not have available. One group was also more
traditional and spiritual in making their vessels, which caused them to create more complex
designs and methods while designing their ceramics (Block 2005). By looking at the similarities of
both groups pottery styles, archaeologists were able to determine the minor but very distinctive
differences, that one group processed in their art, than the other. By comparing each group s

Now we will discuss a brief history of early atomic battery development.
Henry G. J. Moseley, known for developing the Atomic Number and numerous other contributions
to physics and chemistry, created the first known atomic battery in 1913 with his demonstration of
the beta cell. He experimented with a radioactive isotope of the element radium, and the respective
emissions of beta particles, to form the first atomic battery (source 5). This first crude battery
saw minimal success and effectiveness, and it wasn t until 1954 when the Radio Corporation of
America (RCA) began studying atomic batteries for the use of small radio receivers and hearing
aids that atomic batteries became practical and more potential was realized (source 6). Moving
forward to the 1980 s, inventor Paul Brown developed an atomic battery that was much more
powerful than most thermal batteries out at the time. Brown used the emission of alpha and beta
particles in radioactive materials to create an extremely powerful magnetic field. As discussed
before, these alpha and beta particles contain kinetic energy to help collide atomic particles. The
energy produced from this system was so rapid and immense that controlling the cell was extremely
difficult. This proved to be a towering roadblock for most scientists to continue research for atomic
batteries, until Brown was able to invent an approach to encompass the uncontrollable magnetic
fields. This battery was so powerful

a piece of heavy rock on the shoulder. So we need to calm down and think about our future to
find out a way to release stress. We may wonder if there is no hope for us to become successful.
And we know that sighing is not useful, and the only way is that we must find a goalor dream in our
lives. The reason why people feel confused and futureless is that they do not have clear
aspirations, and they do not know what they live for. Without goals, they will only stay in the
same place and never go ahead. Without ambitions, they will become lazy and resign themselves
to fate. If we do not want opportunities to slip away, we need to go out of the whirlpool of
confusion by setting up ideals and ambitions. A great person not only has a clear goal, but also
has a firm resolution and an inflexible spirit. Ninety percent of the failures that occur are due to the
fact that there is no strong will. On many occasions, people probably say much more than the truth
about difficulties, making the objective impossible to reach. In fact, if a person has the will to
succeed, then the size of

Charter Schools Vs. Magnet Schools
The traditional idea of schooling has evolved throughout the course of history. Our diverse world
commands alternative ways of organizing education. These alternative measures are designed to
meet the needs of students who may not have an opportunity to be successful within the traditional
school setting. Although, students are the primary constituents of education, they are not the sole
culprits of reform in education. The needs for alternative educational programs include aspects such
as population decline, economic issues, and the need for better learningexperiences. Therefore,
alternative methods are designed to meet the needs of particular groups of students in various ways
that might be difficulty to meet in the traditional setting.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communities and educators are seeking programs like Charter and Magnet Schools, in place of the
traditional public school setting. Charter Schools allow teachers and a local school board to
determine decisions regarding education. Likewise, the teachers and the local school board are also
held accountable, in regards to student performance. In regards to magnet schools, students are
given an opportunity to learn through themes. Henceforth, these themes are usually centered on the
talents of the students. For example, a magnet school could be designed around performing arts.
The School Within A School is similar to the magnet school idea. Consequently, these alternative
school programs allow students to learn through their individual interests. However, there are other
forms of alternative programs. Multi Aged Classrooms is designed based on the layout of the
school. In a Multi Aged Classroom setting, students are not grouped according to their age, but are
grouped based on developmental stages. Therefore, all students are grouped in one classroom with
numerous teachers. The students receive one on one instruction. Therefore, the instructional
process is delivered based on the needs of a particular student. Another aspect of alternative
programs deals with the economic and the environment of the school. In a School/ Community
Economic Development the primary focus is on the local economy. The students work with
municipal planners, research spending patterns, and start up of student businesses. In the
Community Based School, the school draws on the local environment as a way to make abstract
concepts and textbooks lessons more meaningful. Finally, the last alterative program is the Year
Round School idea. This approach is designed to keep students in school longer durations of time
with short breaks in between. Although the year round school can vary, research has suggested that

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Case Study
tion and background information
The first consideration of case study research method emerged around 1900, mostly within the
discipline of anthropology. From early accounts of journeys, systematic investigations of other
cultures in the form of field studies emerged, with participant observation as the predominant
method of data collection. Another source of case study methodology has been provided by
descriptions of individuals within medicine, social work and psychology, often called case work or
case history . The first generation of case studies culminated in the Chicago school of sociology, in
which the anthropologist s field study method was practised on contemporary society in the

certainly score a clean knockout over a theory . But his thesis is limited in three ways. First,
common sense suggests we should not place too much weight on any one case, no matter how
crucial it appears to be. Second, the crucial case design assumes a narrow theory testing role for
case studies, which, as we have suggested, is often inappropriate for comparative politics. Third,
crucial case studies involve a risky bet on the results. If the findings run counter to expectations,
we have learned nothing at all of significance beyond the case. Suppose Michels has discovered,
contrary to his expectations, that socialist parties were properly democratic after all. Then he
would have been criticized for producing an obvious finding. When the results come out wrong ,

Agriculture And The Industrial Revolution Of The Late 1700s
As the Earth s population grows at breakneck pace over the next several decades, who will feed the
world s people? Agriculture has undergone an extensive expansion and transformation throughout
the last few centuries, beginning with the Industrial Revolution of the late 1700s. New technology
allowed for better and greater methods of production. With the development of modern technology,
people try to think some way can plant less, get more. Many farmers plant only one crop in the
same place year after year. However, those against monocropping claim that it is very hard on the
environment and actually less profitable than organic means of farming ( Monoculture Crops Learn
About The Effects Of Monocropping ). In addition, the destructive nature of agriculturehas recently
shown its hand. While our supermarkets, convenience stores, and restaurants are filled with
abundant food options, people forget to ask themselves where all this food comes from.
Globalization has opened up economies of scale and has allowed people to tap into different types
of products, whether that is food or clothing. But the availability of an increased mass market
comes at a cost. However, today, the modern farming techniques have grown into a headache for
farmers and governments alike, because they are the consequences of overproduction, industrial
waste and other problems arising from the modern methods of agriculture. Thus, modern techniques
are harmful to environments, animals, and humans.

Apachain Research Paper
Introduction
This proposal is to help bring to life the Semester on the Appalachain, a semester long expedition on
the Appalachian Trail for a group of ten participants, in order to provide an environment that can not
be replicated in a typical classroom setting. In the proposal, it will provide research on the benefits
of experiential and expedition education, improvement on psychological health, and organizations
that run similar programs.
When you picture a classroom, what do you think of? You more than likely picture a chalkboard,
desks for all the students and teacher. A new way of teaching has developed that removes students
from the stereotypical environment and places they in a new and engaging environment. This is
experiential education. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compared to the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail, the Appalachian Trail is
widely regarded as the safest options of the three. This is because the Appalachian Trail is accepted
by the communities it runs through. It is common to see members of the community be at the
trailhead and offer assistance to those that are passing by. Also, the spans between communities are
relatively small. On the Appalachian Trail Conservancy website, they state that do not need to

Billy Budd, By Herman Melville
Billy Budd, by Herman Melville, is the book I chose to read. My reaction to the novel is that it was
very boring and took too long to read for how long it was. It was also hard to read because of the
style that it was written in.
The reason I chose this book is because it had a small number of pages in it and I didn t have much
time to read it.
The organization of this novel seemed very stray and confusing. This may, however, have been
because of the style it was written in or that I did not like the book.
I did not see any symbols or motifs used in this book.
I do not believe that this novel has any importance pertaining to our society or culture.
A pivotal scene in this novel would be when the main character, Billy Budd, punched another man
and killed him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Augustus of Prima Porta and Justinian, Bishop Maximianus, and Attendants
Power is always important in human society since society s existence. Emperors, kings, queens
and presidents in every culture and history have tried everything to solidify their reign and
enhance their power. One thing they all did is to build a strange and powerful image of
themselves. Politicians nowadays use social media and press to build their images which are
smart, powerful or trustworthy, Just like things the emperors did in thousands years ago. Gaius
Octavius Thurinus is a adopted son of Julius Caesar, He is the first true emperor of the Roman
Empire, he was believed to be one of the most important emperor of Roma. In 43 EBC, Octavian
gathered his army to kill the senate who planned the assassinate targeting Julius Caesar, his
adoptive father. Then, he defeat Mark Antony and Cleopatra who was his allies but later
betrayed him. Thus , he ended the war continued for decades and brought the great peace to
Rome, In 29 EBC Octavian declared the pax romana, also know as the Roman peace. In 27 BCE,
he was bestowed the title of Augustus by the Roman senate which was actually reestablished by
Augustus himself. In order to remind the Romans the emperor s power, Augustus ordered sculptor
to sculpt the idealized form of him and send those sculptures to every provinces (Module 5 Session

Summary Of 1000 Splendid Suns By Khaled Hossieni
People in first world countries with privileges tend to overlook their good fortune and take
everything for granted. Women in third world countries such as Afghanistan can only dream of
the privileges and opportunities that would be given to them if one were to live in Canada, for
example. Recently, media had been continuously trying to stress this concept of privilege
difference to the Public. Attempting to amplify the amount of gratitude and thankfulness that
people express for the good life they have been given. The novel 1000 splendid suns by Khaled
Hossieni is a wonderful written example of this, as it explores the lives of two Afghan woman and

Hossieni s most prevalent examples that prove this theory deal with woman being forced into
marriages, and how it can often lead to devastating consequences. The earliest example readers
are exposed to occurs after Rasheed looser his temper on Mariam. The author says this Mariam
chewed. Something at the back of her mouth cracked. Good Rasheed said Now you know what
your rice tastes like. Now you know what you ve given me in this marriage. Bad food and
nothing else (Hossieni 104). After Mariam fails to cook a meal within her husband s standards it
causes him to react in an irrational way. However, the deeper meaning behind this act was
Rasheed s anger and disgust in Mariam for failing to bear a male child, proving that there isn t a
sense of respect of love for his wife. If their marriage was built on the foundation of love, then
this would not have been a problem. However since she was forced in the marriage by her father,
she is given no such comfort. Many people will read this passage and think that Hossieni is just
over exaggerating to entice his audience to read more, however reality is, chewing rocks doesn t
even amount to the real pain felt by woman all over Afghanistan. The documentary Loosing hope:
Women in Afghanistan By IRIN tells the story of a young girl named Jamila in the town Kabul.

be made of a photographers. When a professional photographer takes a photo they think of all

  • 2. The Puzzle Of I Will Go Back Home Since arriving and taking the hard decision to stay in USA, I have been dreaming and envisioning the moment I will go back home. This country with millions of miles of highways, crowded metropolises, sunny beaches, lush rainforests and endless possibilities has been a foundation for a new beginning. It wasn t easy to preserver and succeed all alone in this new world. Falling in love, getting married and starting a family has been a blessing which gave me a purpose for all those countless days of hard work and endeavor to achieve my dreams. Even though after five years everything was coming in to place and I felt truly happy, something was still missing. The puzzle of joyful life was not complete. A vivid memory is the day that me and my wife took the spontaneous decision to take a trip to the land I call home. It was a beautiful and chilly Sunday morning in Orem Utah. Quiet and piece was surrounding our apartment complex. The thick shadows of the tall pinetrees were covering the terrace screens. Our doors were open to clear out the heavy smell of burned bacon still sizzling on the stove. It was that morning, which in a split second, me and my wife took the spontaneous decision that we are going on a trip. It is a torturous seventeen hours flight from Utah to Eastern Europe. Arriving at the Salt Lake City airport suddenly hit me that my feelings of joy and excitement were exactly the opposite for my wife. I could see her staring outside the shuttle windows with an ... • 3. Aztec Culture And The Aztec Civilization Aztec culture flourished in the highlands of central Mexico between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries, AD. As the last in a series of complex urban civilizations in Mesoamerica, the Aztecs adopted many traits and institutions from their predecessors such as the Maya and Teotihuacan. The Aztecs also devised many innovations, particularly in the realms of economics and politics. Azteccivilization was destroyed at its height by the invasion of Spanish conquerors under Hernando CortГ©s in 1519. The Aztecs, like many other Mesoamerican cultures, used a limited form of writing that consisted of pictorial representations painted on bark paper and animal hides. (Diego 8). The Aztecs were a very religious group, many of their traditions and recorded history has been related to the religion of the Aztec civilization. Even after the Aztec culture was dominated by the Spaniards, religion was still a big part of Mesoamerican culture. Regardless of what happened to the Aztecs, religion never strayed from them even if their beliefs changed. The Aztec empire stretched throughout large portions of what is now Mexico and was powerful native empires that was created during its time period, the Aztecs though were immigrants of this area. According to their pictorial histories the Aztec peoples claimed to have migrated to central Mexico from a place in the north called Aztlan (Diego 10). Identify, Attract and Retain Candidates One constant trend throughout many organizations if not all is the struggle in finding qualified candidates to fill job openings. Not only is it difficult to recruit skilled workers, but also to retain them. Going back to my parent s work experience, companies expected job loyalty, but today, I noticed and read stories of employees accepting other job offers only weeks after being hired. I wonder if people have changed or is it that employers are not able to satisfy employees. To completive and win the battle for workforce share, organizations should rethink their strategies to effectively recruit, motivate, and retain committed employees. ... The America seen today is not the same as it was 50 years prior, so how can one expect the central dream to be the same? In fact, each person has developed an opinion on what the American dream may mean for him/her. For one, the dream may still be the white picket fence still life from so many years ago, but for another, it may be the accumulation of riches and fame. In Jon Krakauers Into the Wild, he shows us that Chris McCandless cared not for the quotidian rat race he had grown so accustomed to, but more for the intricacies that the natural world had to offer. I believe that although Chris McCandless may not have made it out of Alaska alive, he still succeeded in discovering what he went there for, and in turn died fulfilling his own American dream. The dictionary defines the American dream as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American. Chris McCandless came from a wealthy family with everything he could ever need being provided for him. His parents had achieved the conventional American dream. They had enough money to provide for their family and then some, a nice home, and a good education for the whole family. To the outsider looking in, it would be easy to assume that Chris McCandless had a perfect life full of everything he desired and unrelenting happiness. This was not the case. ... The narrator s attitude is very important in the story because it revolves around him and the way he views things. This short storyis about a man who is married to a woman, and this woman has been friends with a blind man who is going to visit her at her home, after his wife has just passed away. The narrator does not like the idea of the blind man visiting his home, and finds himself very uncomfortable about the visit. He criticizes everything the blind man does, and does not understand that there is more to life than just having eyesight. The narrator has a change of insight at the end of the short story due to the blind man named Robert, who shows him there is more to life than not being able to see. • 11. Antisocial Personality Disorder Is Not A New Phenomena Antisocial personality disorder is not a new phenomena. For centuries, people both rich and poor, successful, unsuccessful, praised and despised could be diagnosed as being a sociopath. Antisocial personality disorder is a type of chronic mental condition in which a person s ways of thinking, perceiving situations and relating to others are dysfunctional, and destructive. There are two major types of psychological disorders. Antisocial personality disorderand Borderline personality disorder. They do share some of the same symptoms so diagnosis could be difficult. Anger, self control issues, and frequent emotional outbursts are the most documented commonalities. (Licht, Hull, Ballantyne, n.d.) But where people with Borderline disorders are more prone to self deprivation, antisocial behavior sufferers tend to affect others directly with their behavior. Some of the symptoms more specific to a sociopath include disregard of typical morals, persistent exploitation or manipulation for personal gain or sheer personal pleasure, repeated use of intimidation, dishonesty and misrepresentation, hostility, impulsiveness, aggression. Violent or poor and abusive relationships, both past and present, also seems to be a common theme in subjects with both disorders. • 12. The American Nurse Association ( Ana ) Code Of Ethics Healthcare organizations are committed to providing clients with quality service and experience while promoting safety, health, and healing. Nurses have the biggest impact in providing safe client care and are known for their commitment in improving or increasing client health. However, this ethical commitment may not always be met due to breakdowns in healthcare delivery. Deviations such as adoption of unsafe practices or behaviors can lead to sentinel events. Any disconnects or disruptions can be a detriment to client care. This paper will present recent cases of witnessed breakdowns of facility protocols that have led to adoptions of unsafe nursing practices, discuss its impact to healthcare, and how it has affected my personal perspective on the issue. Provision three of the American Nurse Association (ANA) Code of Ethics states that the nurse promotes, advocates for, and protects the rights, health, and safety of the patient. Within this standard, it specifies that nurses have a professional responsibility in promoting a culture of safety (American Nurse Association [ANA], 2015). As nursing students, we have the privilege of working with nurses in different departments during clinical rotations. Nursing students are able to observe the ethical application and inattention/negligence of this provision through the use of evidence based practice as well as unhealthy practices, respectively. Baquaqua s story provides evidence of the important role of the American Free Baptist Movement providing educational, financial, and transportation assistance to Baquaqua in order to escape the bonds of slavery. The role of Mr. Jones and R. Mr. Judd provide accurate examples of the influence of the Baptist faith on Baquaqua, which inspired him to convert to Christianity in Haiti. However, the implicit bias of Christian influence on Baquaqua may be questionable during his stay in New York and Boston, yet the more concrete example of R. Mr. Judd s influence on Baquaqua seems to confirm the conversion process as part of the liberation of Baquaqua from slavery during this time of his life. In this manner, evidence taken from the primary source of Baquaqua s narrative provides a deeper understanding of the impact of Christian abolitionist movements in the liberation and freedom of former slaves during the 19th century. By examining selected political controversies surrounding NCLB, it will be demonstrated that politics is the enemy. Since NCLB s enactment, vast amounts of research literature and news stories have been published on its effects, which demonstrates the impact and debate generated by this law. All these actions were to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aim is to fix low performing schools. Schools and teachers would be held accountable, for low performance and the law was considered by many to be overly punitive rather than supportive (Jost, Ravitch). AYP leads to the next criticism of an NCLB outcome: narrowing of the curriculum. Because so much depends on how schools fare on these high stakes tests, in many schools, especially low performing schools, fewer subjects are being taught, so more emphasis can be put on teaching reading and math and less time is being spent on developing children s problem solving and critical thinking skills (Ravitch, Stecher, et.al.). Furthermore, to make room for honing test taking skills, less time is being spent on teaching subjects in general. This practice is often referred to teaching to the test. The fact that too much time is spent working on practice tests is more than likely an unintended consequence of the law. Not only have schools modified their curriculum, but also states have adjusted their educational standards so that they are able to achieve NCLB s requirement of AYP of 100 percent proficiency. Students fell victim to what many observers called the school districts decisions to dumb down the standards for measuring proficiency. It s a lot easier to push down your ... What are the positive and negative aspects of living in a highly interconnected world? Discuss with reference to techno optimists and techno pessimists. We live in a highly interconnected world due to the increase in technologyin our everyday lives, Marshall McLuhan calls this world interconnected by an electronic nervous system a global village (McLuhan n.d.). Theorists for example Manuel Castells call this new social structure the network society he defines the network society as a social structure made of networks in all the key dimensions of social organisation and social practice (Castells and Castells 2010). The internet of things is a networked world of connected devices, objects, and people (Greengard 2015). This technology has the potential to help people in many ways but could it also be used to spy on users in particular the controversy around Samsung smart TV s. The Samsung smart TV includes; voice recognition, auto detection of devices plugged in, smart view which connects with your phone (Samsung TV: SUHD, Smart TV n.d.) and some versions also included motion control. A techno optimist would say all this technology increases the user experience and ease of usage. Users can navigate the system with a small gesture or word without having to get up for the remote. This is the lean back experience and it is enhanced by making it easier and more natural interacting with the technology, to heighten the overall viewing experience.( Visualizing the Future of User Experience | Smart TV n.d.). The Samsung smart hub also allows users access to multiple apps and streaming sites all in one place(Samsung Smart Hub n.d.). Convergence of media platforms blending of the media, telecommunications and computer industries (Grant and Wilkinson 2009) and uniting them in one place benefits the user as they only need one device to access everything on. Opposing this view many may argue that technology is making us lazy and taking away control from the user. Thankful for Secret Santa (Emmia, David, Jason and others have been abruptly snatched from their normal lives and placed in a hotel in modern day time, completely sealed off from the outside world. Winter has come around, and perhaps something or someone will start to reveal some details of why they are trapped in such a strange place. Or maybe it will just screw with their fragile minds. Since their unexpected and jarring capture, he had chosen to take the room with the adjoining door to hers, so they could visit each other without having to get an extra keycard. It had been hard enough figuring out how to even work those seemingly useless pieces of plastic. Syne had made the breakthrough in the end, much to Emmia s and everyone else s grudging thankfulness. When they had all chosen their spots to, as they thought about a month ago, take up temporary residence, Jason had stuck with her, and at first she couldn t have been happier. He was one of her last steadfast friends. It was comforting to know that he wanted to be near enough so they could spend time together regularly. But now something about his lack of variety was ... This black veil alone had costed him many things like his wife, his friends, and the children to fear him. in this manner Mr. Hooper spent a long life, irreproachable in outward act, yet shrouded in dismal suspicions; kind and loving, though unloved, and dimly feared; a man apart from men (1259) , yet the protagonist does not take it off no matter what others say about him. After that comes the thought that everyone, even myself, has a symbolic veil, similar to that of Mr. Hooper, that covers our sins from others. The final theme represented in this story would be that people should not focus on the sins of others but instead look at their own sins. To look for a way of redemption to their own sins before they could start looking at other people s sins. So to sum it up the main theme of this is that everyone commits sins and of course this is a normal thing because no one in this world is perfect. Yet that does not mean that others should be so concerned with the sins of others. Instead look for a way of redemption, focus on the secret sins you have committed first. The Political Strategy Of Versailles And Versailles Just as he did with his ballet performances, Louis continued to infuse theatricality into his political strategy by creating spectacles that captured his nobles attention and demonstrated their king s immense power to them. Principally, there was Versailles, which represents the most tangible example of Louis use of spectacles to establish and flaunt power. In Louis political strategy of utilizing spectacle, perception was reality, and he used France s perception of him to validate and reinforce the reality of his power. Versailles represented a concrete way to constantly remind his potential enemies some of whom were nobles that he forced to live with him in Versailles after the Fronde of his power. Versailles represented luxury and extravagance on the grandest scale. The Primi Visconti described that there is no mine in the world as valuable as Versailles. The grandeur of Versailles reflected and reinforced the grandeur of Louis, thereby building up his power, because Versailles was Louis in a sense. Just as Louis was the Sun King, Versailles was the sun palace, brimming with solar symbolism. Again, art became potent political propaganda. Furthermore, Louis used Versailles to throw magnificent parties, spectacles that served as tools to control his nobles conception of their monarch. In short, Versailles was festivity remembered. The most famous of these parties, The Pleasures of the Enchanted Isle, occurred in 1664. This festival told the story of a sorceress who enchants a troupe of knights, and the function of the festival itself followed much the same storyline. Through the extravagance of the festival, Louis much like the sorceress enchanted his court with a dizzying series of fascinating spectacles [that] demonstrated the magic of royal power. While Versailles and its accompanying festivities represented artistic means through which Louis reinforced his power, he also utilized more practical spectacles. During his reign, Louis grew the French army tremendously from only a few thousand men to over 100,00 men in peacetime and over 400,000 men in war time. I chose to complete the Maryland placement test as I have some interest to attend. It has also exposed me to the college lifestyle a little and got me insight of application and what courses are required. I have concluded that these tests were a useful tool to measure my math skills on the colgate level. These tests were surprising in some aspects and in others very predictable. For one, I expected them to be much longer and more thorough. I expected their to be open ended questions and less multiple choice. I was surprised by the simplicity of some questions, but on contrasty, other questions were more challenging than what I was anticipating. I was also surprised at the lack of variety in questions. Much of the questions were the same format just with different number. But for the most part, I was not too caught off guard by any of the questions, as I had learned them all in my 4 year years at JCHS. The only things that I must address is reminding myself on some of the older material that I learned in my freshman and junior years here. The test was easier than I expected, although it was not easy. I expected the test to be very complicated and to include difficult questions. Instead, it had simpler questions but were still a challenge. For example, the concept of a problem could be fairly easy, but the numbers are hard to work with or had fractions in them. On this test, calculators were permitted and were a huge help to me. This tells myself that I need to get better at mental math to save time on tests and to not rely on calculators so much. The use of ceramics, however, is quite different than the way it was used by the natives during the Middle Woodland Period. Today, pottery is mainly made for decoration or art purposes by modern day Americans, but according to Wallis (2011), about 3,000 years ago the use of pottery became a very common use and practiced tradition among the native people who lived during that time period. The Swift Creek cultureand the Cherokee Indians had very similar methods in formulating ceramics. The archaeological findings of these artifacts states that one group had been more advanced designs on their vessels. This reason is most likely because of the materials that one group was able to access in their area that the other group did not have available. One group was also more traditional and spiritual in making their vessels, which caused them to create more complex designs and methods while designing their ceramics (Block 2005). Finding use in spacecrafts, pacemakers, underwater systems, electric automobiles, and remote monitoring systems (source 6), the atomic battery has existed for over a century and is growing to benefit our world. The atomic battery generates electricity from a nuclear reaction, utilizing the radioactive decay of specific elements. The atomic battery is certainly not meant for households or as a source of common battery use, but rather powerful equipment needing to run for long, extended periods. Atomic batteries are quite expensive, but can provide an immense amount of energythat will conduct over an extremely long life period. This paper will explain the basic functioning of an atomic battery, investigate a brief history of the atomic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now we will discuss a brief history of early atomic battery development. Henry G. J. Moseley, known for developing the Atomic Number and numerous other contributions to physics and chemistry, created the first known atomic battery in 1913 with his demonstration of the beta cell. He experimented with a radioactive isotope of the element radium, and the respective emissions of beta particles, to form the first atomic battery (source 5). This first crude battery saw minimal success and effectiveness, and it wasn t until 1954 when the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) began studying atomic batteries for the use of small radio receivers and hearing aids that atomic batteries became practical and more potential was realized (source 6). Moving forward to the 1980 s, inventor Paul Brown developed an atomic battery that was much more powerful than most thermal batteries out at the time. Brown used the emission of alpha and beta particles in radioactive materials to create an extremely powerful magnetic field. As discussed before, these alpha and beta particles contain kinetic energy to help collide atomic particles. The energy produced from this system was so rapid and immense that controlling the cell was extremely difficult. This proved to be a towering roadblock for most scientists to continue research for atomic batteries, until Brown was able to invent an approach to encompass the uncontrollable magnetic fields. This battery was so powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Is An Old Proverb Where there is a will, there is a way Where there is a will, there is a way is an old proverb which almost everyone knows, but not everyone understand it very well. This proverb means that if you are really resolved to do something, no matter how difficult it might be, never give up, and you will find a way to do it at last. In our life, many people are under too much pressure, just like a piece of heavy rock on the shoulder. So we need to calm down and think about our future to find out a way to release stress. We may wonder if there is no hope for us to become successful. And we know that sighing is not useful, and the only way is that we must find a goalor dream in our lives. The reason why people feel confused and futureless is that they do not have clear aspirations, and they do not know what they live for. Without goals, they will only stay in the same place and never go ahead. Without ambitions, they will become lazy and resign themselves to fate. If we do not want opportunities to slip away, we need to go out of the whirlpool of confusion by setting up ideals and ambitions. A great person not only has a clear goal, but also has a firm resolution and an inflexible spirit. Ninety percent of the failures that occur are due to the fact that there is no strong will. On many occasions, people probably say much more than the truth about difficulties, making the objective impossible to reach. In fact, if a person has the will to succeed, then the size of ... These alternative measures are designed to meet the needs of students who may not have an opportunity to be successful within the traditional school setting. Although, students are the primary constituents of education, they are not the sole culprits of reform in education. The needs for alternative educational programs include aspects such as population decline, economic issues, and the need for better learningexperiences. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Communities and educators are seeking programs like Charter and Magnet Schools, in place of the traditional public school setting. Charter Schools allow teachers and a local school board to determine decisions regarding education. Likewise, the teachers and the local school board are also held accountable, in regards to student performance. In regards to magnet schools, students are given an opportunity to learn through themes. Henceforth, these themes are usually centered on the talents of the students. For example, a magnet school could be designed around performing arts. The School Within A School is similar to the magnet school idea. Consequently, these alternative school programs allow students to learn through their individual interests. However, there are other forms of alternative programs. Multi Aged Classrooms is designed based on the layout of the school. In a Multi Aged Classroom setting, students are not grouped according to their age, but are grouped based on developmental stages. Therefore, all students are grouped in one classroom with numerous teachers. The students receive one on one instruction. Therefore, the instructional process is delivered based on the needs of a particular student. Another aspect of alternative programs deals with the economic and the environment of the school. In a School/ Community Economic Development the primary focus is on the local economy. The students work with municipal planners, research spending patterns, and start up of student businesses. In the Community Based School, the school draws on the local environment as a way to make abstract concepts and textbooks lessons more meaningful. Another source of case study methodology has been provided by descriptions of individuals within medicine, social work and psychology, often called case work or case history . Second, the crucial case design assumes a narrow theory testing role for case studies, which, as we have suggested, is often inappropriate for comparative politics. Third, crucial case studies involve a risky bet on the results. If the findings run counter to expectations, we have learned nothing at all of significance beyond the case. Suppose Michels has discovered, contrary to his expectations, that socialist parties were properly democratic after all. Then he would have been criticized for producing an obvious finding.
