O que é um dinossauro?
Os dinossauros são um grupo de
répteis pré-históricos* que viveram
na Terra entre 245 e 65 milhões de
anos atrás
Richard Owen, um paleontólogo
britânico, criou a palavra "dinosaur"
(em português, dinossauro) em 1842.
Ela veio das palavras gregas deinos,
que significa "terrível", ou "temível", e
sauros, que significa "lagarto"

5. O que é um paleontólogo?
Um paleontólogo é um cientista que
estuda os dinossauros. É como um
detetive que procura pistas em objetos
deixados por animais já extintos, como
os fósseis
Os fósseis são os restos de animais,
como dentes, ossos ou conchas, que
se transformaram em rocha
6. Os dinossauros existiram?
Sabemos que os dinossauros existiram
porque os paleontólogos desenterram
fósseis de esqueletos, pegadas e ovos
de dinossauros. Você pode ver muitos
desses fósseis em museus
Encontramos dinossauros em todos os
continentes da Terra!

Podiam ter desde o tamanho de uma galinha até
medir mais de 12 metros de altura!

23. Onde foram parar os dinossauros?
Hoje os dinossauros estão extintos.
Isso significa que todos eles
morreram e não há mais nenhum em
nosso planeta
Há muitas teorias para explicar por que
isso aconteceu, mas sabemos que um
enorme meteoro (ou rocha) atingiu a
Terra e causou uma mudança climática à
qual a maioria dos dinossauros não
conseguiu se adaptar
