Threats From Threat Of AYE
Threat of Substitutes
There are moderated threats from substitute of AYE. Supermarkets are still the best choice for
anyone who want to quickly buy good and high quality products. Even though other sellers are
selling the same products, which could make AYE loses some customers, but the products they
sell are in specific category, for example, Seven Eleven is selling food and beverage specifically,
and others small products. Such that, it still lack of some products. Moreover, there are effects of
online supermarkets, in terms of convenient purchasing. However, online supermarket requires
minimum price in order to purchase products. Also, it has to deliver which means there will be
shipping time. So, overall, AYE is not affected much, because... Show more content on

How to maintain current customers
Currently, there are many supermarkets and local retailers that have a lot of branches and
continuing to open the new branch every single day, thus, this will cause the competitiveness within
the supermarket industry, thus, the AYE needs to find the better way to manage and maintain the
current customers in order to keep them purchasing their products and it needs to be archived as
soon as possible.
Problem
Change Paper base system
The main problem of the AYE in the current situation is the use of data management and storage.
AYE has been using paper base system for storing important data and information which is too
inaccurate, inefficient, and time consuming. The system leads various troubles, such as, paper lost,
or deteriorated. Furthermore, it slow down other processes deliberately. For example, not even
delaying the ordering process, but also stock checking. Moreover, it is less efficiency when storing
data and information than using computer calculation. Such that, AYE should adjust the system
concerning the better performance of data

The Christ Of The Covenants
The Christ of the Covenants demonstrates the relationship between five covenants God instigated
with Adam, Abraham, Noah, Moses, and David in the Old Testament, and how they are reflected in
Jesus birth, death, and resurrection in the New Testament. In answering four basic questions, I
discovered this main idea to be true time and time again. Robertson exhibits his vast knowledge of
the subject with a concisely structured index outlining one clear point for the entire novel.
In his book, The Christ of the Covenants, O. Palmer Robertson views the covenants necessary to the
understanding of the Scriptures. They are mandatory for us to attempt to interpret the grand scheme
of redemption. While the actual word covenant may not appear in Scripture until Genesis 6, some
of the five old covenants (Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David) were established prior to this.
The performance rituals of the covenants were described in depth, thus providing sufficient proof
that they did indeed exist. The main message of Scripture lies in redemption, or the Gospel story of
the New Testament. Without the Old Testamentcovenants, we would not be able to understand why
and how God fulfills them later on through the birth, death, and resurrection of his son Jesus Christ.
Unity describes how the various covenants all relate to one another, beginning with God s covenant
with Adam in Creation and the eventual redemption found in Christ. There are two ways the
covenants are unified:

Europe s Influence On Western Europe
Western Europe is a term that was used to describe a region where many countries, such as Britain,
France and Germany, which joined after World Wars, shared the same history. In another
perspective, it was also sometimes referring to a region where countries shared the same value:
capitalism and democracy. Throughout the history, because of difference events, the position of
Western Europein the world has also changed. Before 1914, due to the rapid development of the
Enlightenment ideas and the industrialization in Britain and France, the world major powers
centrally seated in Western Europe. However, as the Western European countries suffered huge
losses from two World Wars, Western Europe has actually steadily marched East since the Great
War. Moreover, as many new immigrants from the former colonized regions joined Western
European countries, Western Europe also gained its economic and political cohesion as most
countries became part of NATO and then the European Union. In the present days, while the idea of
Western Europe has expanded to more countries, it became dominant in its continent and could be
considered as a savior to many other nations.
Prior to the 1914, many of the world great powers, such as Britain and France were centrally seated
in Western Europe. In the 18th century, Britain and France soon developed rapidly due to the birth
of the Enlightenment idea, which challenged the tradition and put more emphasis on the reasons

Oscar Micheaux was born on the date of October 2, 1884. The area in which he was born in was
in Metropolis, Illinois. Oscar s last name was confused on either being pronounced with Mee
show, or Mi shaw, though it is unknown. In fact, that is one of the mysteries surrounding him.
Micheaux had 4 brothers and 6 sisters, born with his father and mother there with him. His
father, whose name was Calvin, could not read nor write, and left the child caring to Micheaux s
mother Bell. As a young boy, he cleaned shoes, as well as worked as a porter on a railroad. As he

Social Intelligence And Social Quotient
I.Abstract:
Gone are the days when one used to think that IQ EQ are only the two components required in a
work place. To keep up, we must be able to present ourselves as a total package in and outside of
work. Therefore the need of Social Quotient has risen for a working professional which is equally
important as Intelligence Quotient Emotional Quotient. The degree of Social Quotient increases
when it comes to working women. This paper would attempt to find reasons of success in working
women due to their Social Quotient. The paper would also cite differences of SQ in male female in
their working environment. In the paper the attempts are made to design measurement techniques

Gene Sequencing And The Human Genome Project
Gene sequencing is a method that helps us to read the genetic code and to compare normal genes
with disease causing genes (Kratz, 2015). It is helpful to determine the precise order of the bases in
a DNA strand, and mostly used for genetic variation or mutation that might lead to a development of
a disease. This disease causing change can be a substitution, deletion or addition of a single base
pair (National Human Genome Research Institute, 2014). Since the human genome project has
completed its first draft in 2001, researchers are more keen to find out more about the human
genome, the variability of the gene sequences amongst humans, and the relationship between the
gene sequence variation to human health (Green et al., 2013). After a... Show more content on

Patents are used to protect the gene sequence worldwide where the patent owner considers there
will be a viable market in that area (Merz and Cho,2008).Patenting genes have become popular after
the human genome was complete and became more a topic that people debated about (Caulfield
and Gold, 2000). The patenting system in gene sequencing is important to discover new medicines
and other advances in healthcare (Nuffield Council on Bioethics, 2002). The European Society of
Human Genetics (ESHG) are looking for ways to develop the current patenting and licensing
system in order to make the public handle the situation in a well manner, respect to the current
legislation (European Journal of Human Genetics, 2008). Being quite a controversial topic there
are a number of ethical issues that arise from the society which will be discussed below.
Human dignity
Patenting gene sequences has been a topic that has been debated and problematic for quite a while.
One main issue that is discussed is human dignity. Thinking about patenting human genes can give
the idea of owning the gene sequence. In fact a response from a lawyer would be that patenting is
not exactly ownership. This statement is true but doesn t change the way people think about
dignity. Many people still think that human genes are commodities.
Even though patenting DNA reduces the risk of

American Psychological Association Defines Traumatic Event
American Psychological Association defines traumatic event as one that threatens injury, death or
the physical integrity of self or others (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). Childhood
trauma is the experience of traumatic event or events which creates a substantial and long term
damage to the mental and physical growth and development of a child(National Child Traumatic
Stress Network, 2013). National prevalence of childhood trauma indicates trauma is a frequent
occurrence in which majority of Americas have witnessed or experienced a single or multiple
traumatic events before adulthood. A 2013 study by National Survey of Children s Health
reported about 35 million children in the United States, almost half of the nation s children
population, have experienced one or more serious traumas().According to National Center of
Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence report, almost 26% of children witness or
experience a traumatic event before the age of four. Reports from Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration (SAMHS) in 2011 found 60% of adults report witnessing or
experiencing a traumatic event as a child. The Great Smoky Mountain study found 67% of
participant had been exposed to one or more traumas before the age of 16(). Research suggests
trauma can be related to a single occurrence or more often is related to multiple continuous
occurrences. The term complex trauma is used to describe the exposure of severe multiple and/or
prolonged pervasive

Wilfred Owen s Life And Work
Wilfred Owen born in Oswestry, raised in Birkenhead and Shrewsbury. In 1913 Owen broke from
the Roam Catholic Church and went to teach English in France. Owen always had the
determination to become a poet. While teaching in France, he worked on the rhyming patterns
which became the prominent characteristics of his poetry. In 1915 Owen enlisted in the British
Army. His first experiences in January May 1917 of active service was as an officer at the Battle
of the Somme. Battle of Somme, led to his diagnoses of shell shock and order to return to Britain.
While Owen underwent treatment at Craig Lockhart War Hospital, he met one of his literary heroes
Siegfried Sassoon. Sassoon provided Owen with encouragement he needed to write about
experiences he had throughout the war. However, it was not until the summer of 1917 that he
found his true voice. Owen is widely recognized as one of the greatest voices of WWI. The Wilfred
OwenAssociation was formed in 1989 to commemorate Wilfred Owen s life and work. The
poems for which Owen is remembered for were written in a period between August 1917 and
September 1918. Owen self appointed himself with the task of speaking out for the men in his
care. He did this by showing the pettiness of war, which Owen also expressed his distaste for the
war in his letters home. Owen s somber practically, energy and umbrage, his humanity are blatant
in many of his well known poems. As well as his great technical skills in his phrasings or line set

How Did The Eureka Stockade Change Australia
The Eureka Stockade, lead by Peter Lalor, is viewed as the birthplace of Australia s political
system. It was a key event in history that changed the democracy of Australia forever. The
Victorian gold rush in 1851 attracted many people from all over the world. Peter Lalor was one
of them. He arrived in 1852 from Ireland, where he was a well known freedom fighter. Peter was
well educated and was used to leading men. He was straight talking, strong minded and courageous.
He was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in. When the governor introduced expensive gold
licenses, the miners really began to struggle. They took their grievances to the gold commissioner,
but he did not want to hear about their problems. Instead, the commissioner sent

The Public School Education System Is Failing Our Youth
Hailey Hunter

English Composition I
19th November 2015
The Public School Education System is failing our Youth While in high school, many students
complained about standardized testing and how ridiculous it was our education standards were on
the line for it. How we never learned anything long enough to remember it. Students are supposed
to enjoy learning. Instead students dread their mornings and hours spent in a classroom. Pass the
OGT or the new PARCC testing in order to graduate. Being taught at an impossible pace that many
cannot remember the information for the next year but instead just remember for the moment.
There are teachers who are sitting fancy, but don t even do their job to the core standards.
Looking at a few others who notice these flaws, a source from Sandra Stotsky s article says:
To begin with, education schools supply far too many teachers with an inadequate background in the
subjects they are licensed to teach. As one school administrator discovered when she examined
her teacher s college transcripts while preparing a proposal for a Teaching American History
grant, fully one third of our middle school social studies teachers had zero hours in college history
courses. Another 53 percent had fewer than ten hours of any college history. (Stotsky 44). Many
teachers cannot answer your questions simple or not. They don t have extensive knowledge to
hold onto because of lack of passion or having such a repetitive way of teaching

Point of View
Each individual short story has its own point of view and voice. Within short stories there are
different types of narrative and also different types of irony being used. Each individual author
has their own way of telling a story; also they have a certain way to portray their story to an
audience. For two specific short stories Everything That Rises Must Converge and Mrs. Dutta
Writes a Letter we can analyze to see what point of view and voice is being used. Everything
That Rises Must Converge is a story that takes place in the 1960 s. A recent college graduate,
Julian who escorts his mother to her weekly weight loss class at the YMCA. His mother attends
these classes to reduce her high blood pressure. He escorts her there every week... Show more

In this story the family does not know that Mrs. Dutta is rather unhappy living with her son in
America. Mrs. Dutta always tries to hide her true feelings from her family, and is reluctant to
tell the truth to her best friend in India, but the reader knows Mrs. Dutta s true feelings. Also we
can see how the voice affects the plot of each story. Since both Everything That Rises Must
Converge and Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter have a similar voice, the plots in both stories are
affected almost the same way. With the voice being from a third person point of view the reader
is able to know the qualities of each character. In Everything That Rises Must Converge knowing
both emotions for Julian and his mother, we are able to see both sides of what they are
thinking. This helps with knowing the actions that might take place next and also to know why
the character responded in such a way. Julian s mother is very prejudice, and since the reader is
able to know her feeling we can see why Julian acted the way he did when he saw an African
American man get on the bus. In Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter knowing Mrs. Dutta s feeling about
living with her son we can see why she is reluctant to share that information with her best friend as
she thinks it would be un honorable. We can also see that the feeling is mutual with her son s wife.
This explains the harsh attitude against Mrs. Dutta and Mrs. Dutta s need to hide things from the
family. In both stories

Plastic Surgery Ethics Essay
Plastic surgery is a rapidly evolving field spread around the world. Plastic surgery deals with human
appearance and is becoming a more profitable business throughout the years. It is divided into two
sections, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. An ethical dilemma that corresponds to plastic
surgery is the loss of human values patients encounter once they undergo surgery. Also, individuals
that depend on cosmetic surgery detract from patients that are in urgent need of these procedures.
The replacement of misleading values, pride and, joy through surgery creates unrealistic dreams for
patients. The patient and doctor relationship created under these circumstances is viewed as a
therapeutic purpose due to the feeling of being healed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The abuse of plastic surgery over the years has gotten out of control. Due to the high demand for
fillers, laser, and Botox, physicians perform cosmetic procedures that are non surgical with no
training. Society has unofficially banned wrinkles, fat deposits, and sun damaged skin. An ethical
concern for patients and healthcare providers is that these so called problems should be enhanced
and dealt with rather than result in aesthetic surgery. Although body image is important to certain
people, the outer image does not define a human being. The real value of a person cannot be
reduced to his/her appearance, and medicine as an art, should feel the obligation to resist these
modern ideologies and should attempt to help people get a more authentic attitude about
themselves. (Mousavi, 2010) If a person is unhappy with himself or herself, they should rely on a
more natural solution. Aesthetic surgery should only be an option for people that have suffered an
accident or born with a deformity. Having small lips, tiny wrinkles, beauty marks, or dark hair is
not a deformity, they re simply things the body produces over the years. An

Big Ben As An Unbroken Reminder Of Inevitable Death
The clock was striking. The leaden circles dissolved in the air. He made her feel the beauty;
made her feel the fun, (186). An awful restriction presented throughout the novel, time is also
bestowed as completely necessary for society to function. Virginia Woolf uses Big Ben as a tool
to unite the characters whose lives seem so disconnected. To Clarissa Dalloway, the chimes serve
as an unbroken reminder of inevitable death. With each ring, she sends waves outward into the
dimensions of time and life, dramatically affecting those around her. Although disturbed by the
sound of Big Ben, she has also come to anticipate it in the same way as death. Even after she dies,

Through the parallels drawn between Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Smith, Virginia Woolf is
able to use the notion of inevitable death to address the complexity of human nature and the
erraticism of the conduct in its process. By making the stylistic choice to focus on the internal
reflection of death and rely less on external dialogue, Woolf is able to portray the confusion and
sensitivity of each of the characters. Throughout the novel, both Clarissa and Septimus meditate
on the poetic lines from Shakespeare s Cymbeline, a funeral dirge intended to find comfort in
the idea of death. Fear no more the heat o the sun/ Nor the furious winter s rages, (9). In the eyes
of the novel, this quotation initially serves to remind Clarissa of her perpetual aging and
inevitable mortality. Where death would eliminate the obstacles of such a complex world, this
heat appears as something wonderful to Clarissa. In fearing the constant propulsion forward in
time, Mrs. Dalloway often reminisces of the past. She refers to her time at the age of eighteen with
Sally Seton, her female lover, as a match burning in a crocus, (32). The notion of romance as a heat
filled flower emphasizes the passion with which she explored her budding sexuality, bringing
excitement and dynamic to her life. To a certain extent, the fervor with which

the National Football League (NFL) since 1966. The organization is most notably known for the

Dolphins one of the best franchises in the national football leagueduring his reign as head coach.
The time period from 1970 to 1993 were the golden years of the organization s history; during
this time the Miami Dolphins won 13 AFC East Titles, 5 AFC Championships, 2 Super Bowls

Maria Von Trapp s The Sound Of Music
The Sound of Music is an old tale that ran its first show in 1959. This play was shown at the Belk
Theater at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. It included two acts with a twenty minutes
intermission between the two acts. The Sound of Music is a musical that has music by Richard
Rodgers. The play follows Maria von Trapps life, it starts with her life at an Abbey trying to join
the monastic life. The nuns from the Abbey do not feel that she is quite ready for the monastic
life because of how much she likes to sing. There are strict rules that each person must follow in
the Abbey. The nuns tell Maria that she is going to become a governess for the von Trapp
family.
The play then goes to show the relationships that Maria forms with the children and the Captain.
The Captain is not home very often, but one time he is he brings home, Elsa and Max. Elsa is
planned to be the Captain s new wife, however, that is not what ends up happening. Maria and
the Captain get married and the play ends with the family fleeing from the Nazi. This play is
based on a memoir of Maria. Although the play is based on Maria s life there were some events
that did not occur in Maria s life that is in the play. For instance, the family didn t actually flee
Nazi oppression right after the annexation of Austria; rather they relocated to the United States in
the 1940s. The set designers did a great job designing the von Trapp mansion. The von Trapp

The Role Of Safe Sex In Women

women end up with HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases. In Sold, Monica is thrown out in

she faced were getting progressively worse, while having sex with men. At the time Lakshmi,

America Vs Airplane
I disagree with this statement, as consumers we don t only value the invention based on how
hard it is made, but how useful it is. we could conclude this by looking at the current invention
for example: Viagra vs airplane. The wright brothers (Wilbur and Orville) invented airplane in
17, December 1903. They both was first inspired by birds, they observe that birds angled their
wings for balance and control, and tried to apply the same principle to their design and call it
wing wrapping . Not long after that they invented moveable rubber that is able to react like the
birds wing and they discovered airplane. With this method Wilbur is able to fly for 59 seconds at

I don t think that it is necessary for us to see it in this perspective, we value things based on its
effect towards us, not just based on how easy or hard it takes to invent it. It would seems quite
unfair we value things based on the result instead of the process like for example: the wright

Morality And Ethics Of The Auschwitz And Art Spiegelman s...
Morality is adaptable in extreme situations. The Holocaust is an example of what happens to one s
morality when forced to adapt to animalistic behavior in order to survive. Life in Auschwitz
required a purging of one s human dignity for survival. Prisoners were constantly exposed to
perpetual dehumanization, which inevitably led to the dehumanization, and restoration of one s
mental, physical, and social adaptation. Because of this, one s morality begins to erase. It is in the
adaptation of living in a merciless world that the line separating right and wrong begins to blur.
Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz and Art Spiegelmans Maus, both represent how morality and
ethicsare challenged in the means of survival.
Man is bound to pursue his own ends by all possible means, while he who errs but once pays
dearly. (Levi 1.3). In one short sentence, Levi sums up the situation: its human nature to use any
means necessary to survive. And that s exactly what happens in the camp. There are many in the
camps who are not able to cope with its horrible circumstances. Unfortunately, those who are unable
to cope result in animalistic behavior. When being exposed to inhumane conditions, one begins to
act inhumane. Null is an example of one who regresses into an unconscious state of being. Levi
presents Null as an example of one who has resulted in doing anything and everything to survive.
Levi recounts, when he speaks, when he looks around, he gives the impression of being empty

Mr. Walker s Legal Representative
Mr. Walker s legal representative revealed that he wished to give an open statement as to the reason
for the administrative hearing. The legal representative stated that he represents the non custodial

jointly, and that in October 2015 the NCP s wife deposited over $23,000.00 in the bank account
that she withdrew from a personal savings retirement account that the NCP did not contribute to

The money that his wife was holding in the account was used to furnish the new house that they

average, the monthly expenses would be higher than earnings. When the expenses exceed the
earnings, his wife would give him money to help pay the expenses of the house. The accounts at
the bank that they have are two checking accounts (account for the bills and his personal account),

Three Reasons Why Sinners is a Persuasive Sermon
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God Persuasive Sermon, Jonathan Edwards Religious views are

far to express the need for god, and the good and bad that comes with or without it. Churches

President Franklin D. Roosevelt s Four Fears
Fear, an emotion that helps people to recognize and respond to dangerous situations and threats.
The most common fear in intractable conflict is the fear of losing one s identity and security.
Individuals and groups identify themselves in certain ways culture, language, race, religion and
threats to those identities arouse very real fears. Fears of extinction, fears of the future, and fears
of oppression. On January 6, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt addresses Congress in an
effort to move the nation away from a foreign policy of neutrality. During his speech Roosevelt

was only ignorance as to what to do in both situations. They withdrew money and Wall Street

A Brief History of France
Historical Perspective
The history of France can be divided to Gaul and Roman Conquest, the middle ages, modern time
and contemporary era. The oldest traces of human life in what is now France date from
approximately 1.8 million years ago. Between 1500 and 500 B.C. The Guals moved into the
region before it was known as France. Gaul was conquered by Rome in the second century B.C.,
which led to the Gauls adopting the Roman language and culture. France derived its modern name
from Franks a Germanic tribes that overran the country from the east around 5th century. (A Brief
History of France I)
In the 9th century, the Treaty of Verdun divided the Kingdom of Francia to three territories;
Eastern Francia, Middle Francia and Western Francia which was the precursor to modern
France. Before the monarchy was overthrown during the French revolution in 1798, France was
ruled with several noble families and was involved with the hundred years war against England,
Renaissance, reformation and seven years war along with Austria against Prussia and England.
(A Brief History of France.II) About 10 years after the revolution in 1804 Pope Pius VII crowned
Napoleon Bonaparte as emperor of the France. (Table 1) Although he waged several wars and
occupied the most of Europe allied armies conquered Paris and exile Napoleon to the island of
Elba. However, he escaped from the island and tried to get back on power but he defeated at the

The Four Layers Of The Respiratory System
The respiratory system is made up of two different parts, the upper respiratory tract which includes
the nose, mouth and the beginning on the trachea. This is the part that is in charge of taking in the
air and letting it back out again, and then the lower respiratory tract which is made up of the trachea
and the lungs.
There are four different layers that make up the trachea, these include the mucosa which is the in
most layer. This consists of ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium tissue which contains
goblet cells that secrete a tacky mucus that lines the walls of the inner trachea so that it catches any
debris breathed in via the air before it hits the lungs.

World Trade Organization ( Wto )
World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international institution that supervises and ensures the
executions of trade agreements and treaties among economic entities. Its headquarter is located in
Geneva (Switzerland). It was called Economic UN for its status of international trade. The volumes
of trade of the members have become the majority international trade. It is the maker, supervisor and
executor of multilateral trade treaties and agreements. It is an important place to settle trade
disputes. It is an influential participant in the international economic cooperation with other global
institutions and one of the most important international organizations.
WTO was born out of the negotiations called the Uruguay Round and earlier negotiations under the
General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade(GATT) on 15th April 1994, aiming at cover the shortages
of GATT. GATT, the product of international free trade, is the predecessor of WTO, which was an
intergovernmental agreement about the rules of tariffs and trade signed on 30th October 1947.
However, it had been an interim agreement but not a formal international institution since it came
into force, which had hugely limited its processes of executions. Firstly, it lacked of legal binding
and powerful measures. Secondly, the interim agreement had some grey area, which cause the
agreement could not be implemented accurately. Finally, GATT discriminated different social
systems. With eight multilateral tariff and trade negotiations

The Arguments For The Existence Of God
Amie Kamara
Professor Davidson
Theology
16 November 2015
Rough Draft for The arguments for the Existence of God. The question Does God Exist? is a
well known asked question in the world. Most people believe they know the answer to it. The
religious people would say, well of course he does, while the non religious people or atheist would
say no He does not exist. Because evil exist and chaos exists, God cannot be all powerful. In the
modern world, there are many different opinions as to whether a God exists or not. This has been
an issue of great dispute because many people reverence different gods or no god at all. For years,
many philosophers have come up with theories, proofs, and hypotheses to prove the existence of
God, and a canon of arguments has been developed. The Arguments for the Existence of God sets
out to explain the everyday philosophical arguments for theism, and so to explore the case for the
existence of God. The arguments themselves are arranged under the following headings: The
Ontological Argument, The Cosmological Argument, The Teleological Argument, and The Moral
Argument will determine if there really is a God.
The ontological argument
An argument that attempts to prove the existence of God through abstract reasoning alone is
known as the Ontological argument. The argument begins with a clear explanation of the concept
of God. When people talk or think about God they usually think or say that he s a perfect being
meaning He is flawless, ideal

The elderly are spending money on their healthcare. It is over $1000 and each time they get older
the cost increases. It is not fair for the elderly to worry about transportation money when they have

are on their retirement they should enjoy transporting without worrying to pay the transportation.
Elderly are safe drivers compared to other age groups since they often reduce the risk of injury
by wearing safety belts, observing speed limits, and not drinking and driving. However, they are
more likely to be injured or killed in traffic crashes due to age related vulnerabilities, such as
fragile bones. Medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and other illnesses also make it more
difficult for older drivers to recover from any injuries. Seniors have the highest crash death rate per

Experience during a Fundraising Program
Personal Reflection Paper Initially, I would like to talk a little about my role in the fundraising

the project was Purchasing and Procurement Officer and as the name suggests, this was a very
demanding job and highly respected by all my peers. This position was very significant for me
that, I cannot emphasize enough how much it is going to help me in my field of studies and

Another interesting concept that I came across was that, I personally witnessed myself
competing and avoiding to be less cooperative at times and was immediately pulled back to see
this. However, I also believe that I brought a culture into the group, which fulfilled the role of a
negotiator in order to avoid conflict and save time on decision making. This was to me a
breakthrough in my learning experience only because I did not know I had them(skills). I
understood the fact that many tradeoffs are made in a project, and a mediator was always in
favor of the group. My intuition that our group had an integrative characteristic to its negotiation
policies proved right. A lot of this was to make each other happy at the moment and also the fact
that we were peers hoping to maintain long term relationship was also a reason. However, it was
not possible for me to create a win win situation all the time. I believe that my reasoning and
persuasion skills helped to some extent to avoid conflict. This was also a perfect opportunity for
me to put a number of other alternatives on the table for discussion and thus exploring my creative
side. Overall, I must say that looking back at our achievements, I think it was worth the time and
effort and was not bad at

Authoritarian Technologies In The Whale And The Reactor
Although Ursula Franklin and Langdon Winner both classify technology in different ways, they
bring up many similar points regarding the intersection of power and technology in our everyday
life. Franklin s theory of technology as practice categorizes technology as either prescriptive or
holistic in The Real World of Technology
, which correlates well with Winner s idea of technology
being created with either authoritarian or democratic motives in The Whale and the Reactor. After
reading both arguments, a clear correlation can be made between holistic/democratic technologies
and prescriptive/authoritarian technologies as a way to describe power in our society.
Franklin uses the term technology to define ways of doing something. To her, holistic... Show more

Franklin s idea of a prescriptive technology is any process that has been broken down into steps,
where workers specialize in only one step. These technologies require discipline and planning,
and are designed for compliance (Franklin, 1999). She uses Chinese bronze making to show how
each step involves different people, because if they weren t completed properly, the process
couldn t continue. Similarly, Winner s view on authoritarian technology in that objects can
either be designed to assist those with a hidden agenda to establish patterns of power and
authority (Winner, 1986) or that new technologies or some of their qualities can be strongly or
specifically linked to parties who are trying to create a need for authority or power. Both of these
arguments highlight that these technologies now dominate society, and are no longer restricted to
mainly material production. They can be found in administrative and economic activities as well
as many aspects governance. Technology can now control where we can and cannot go,
removing the need to make decisions. He used the construction of overpasses in New York as an
example of this. To control who was able to get into the city, overpasses were built low so only
cars (owned by white people in the middle and upper class) could get in and those who took public
transit (poor people and racial minorities) could not, limiting the amount of low income citizens.
This also shows that new technologies can be created for one purpose (transportation) to disguise
hidden motives (controlling the demographic of a population). Franklin also acknowledges this,
explaining that although prescriptive technologies have brought us many important products, raised
living standards and increased well being, they have also created a culture of compliance (Franklin,
1999). Winner and Franklin both show a concern for these types of technologies,

Faust And Religion
I will argue that Goethe uses spirituality to fill the void created by science. This is significant
because the reversal between science and spirituality is a direct contrast to the idea of
Gotterdammerung. Instead of writing about the death of the gods and religion, Goethe uses Faust
to promote spirituality as superior to science.
At the beginning of the play, Faust is portrayed as a well educated individual. However, even after
studying a variety of topics, Faust finds himself no wiser than when [he] began (359). In addition,
he realizes that a life of academia is not fulfilling. The words and topics Faust is learning about are
meaningless to him. Faust understands that knowledge has its limits, much like when Faust and his
father were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, the idea of Gotterdammerung claims that the Gods have reached their twilight. The
idea further goes on to explain that for us to become who we are, the Gods must have died and
passed on . However, Goethe uses Faust to overturn the idea of Gotterdammerung. Throughout the
play, Faust abandons the idea of reason to pursue his own fulfillment through spirituality. For Faust,
he is experiencing a metaphorical death through his continued studies. He finds that his studies and
words are meaningless and there are limits to their application. However, the spirits allow Faust to
experience a new lease on life. This entire encounter is constructed through a bet between the Lord
and Mephistopheles. Even when Mephistopheles drags Faust into unfortunate situations, Faust
places his complete control in the devil. His trust in Mephistopheles represents his absolute trust in
spirituality and supernatural powers. Through his experiences with spirits, Faust experiences a wide
variety of emotions, from love to tragedy. Even in the darkest of times, Faust experiences more
fulfillment through these feelings than academia ever brought him. Goethe using Faust s
disillusionment of academia and revitalization through feelings proves to the reader that this is the
Gotterdammerung of reason and the rise of

Pope Gregory VII and King Henry IV
The investiture controversy was conflict between church and state. Those days, Henry was most
powerful king in Europe, but Gregory willing to give him problems and wanted to dominate the
state. Gregory was threatened the king, but the problem was that he was without any military
power and this made him vulnerable. At that time bishops were important political figure and the
main issue of conflict was bishops appointment because the Popeand the king both wanted to make
bishops in their favor. Moreover, Pope decided to put an end to civil authority over the church. He
declared only the church had the right to appoint, transfer, or remove bishops, but King began to
appoint his own bishops.
When the Saxon war was going defectively, the king made an advisory committee to advise him
to talk Gregory .Pope assumed this favorable sign that the king would come and talk to him
before the coronation. Henry won a military victory in 1075 in Saxon war and he had begun to

Comparing The Flea and Valentine Essay
Comparing The Flea and Valentine
The flea is a metaphysical poem about a man trying to argue a virgin into bed to have sexual
intercourse with him. This poem was most likely written to amuse the readers and probably more
for a larger male audience. The poem was written in the late 17th century in a period where sex
within marriage was like a household chore, but socially, sex before marriage was like a sin,
because society was extremely religious. John Donne is attempting to get these thoughts out of her
head and persuade her to have sex with him.
Metaphysical poets use a lot of elaborate and extended comparisons.
They wrote energetic and vigorous poems that went against the common literature of the time.

He uses many sly phrases also which could easily win his argument and I feel it is making her feel
guilty and starting to make her confused and think about the prospects of them having sex.
I think that during the end of the first stanza the poet starts to become quite theatrical.
Yet this enjoys it before it woo, And pamper d swells in one blood made of two; And this, alas! Is
more than we would do.
This could be referring to sex. The flea enjoys the blood and so does the man enjoy foreplay. The
pamper d swells could be that of sexual organs before sex and yet, because that is not happening,
the flea is having a better time at the moment than he is, by sucking their blood.
I think that by using this comparison, John Donne is being very intellectual and at this point I feel
he may win his argument.
The second stanza, John Donne becomes weaker as the girl starts to defend herself and he tries to
convey his love for her.
John Donne, in this stanza I feel becomes more intimate and uses alliteration and much more poetic
techniques. At the beginning of the second stanza, I would assume that the girl has got up and left
him.

Pristine Character Of Swami Vivekananda
Swami Vivekananda has had claimed his universal identity across the cultures and there is a
unanimous acceptance of his principles on life. Most of Vivekananda s thoughts were focused on
empowering youth and he strongly believed that the youth have the power to create, generate and
destroy the civilizations. Further, he believed that the youngsters have oozing energy and the
youngsters must realize their hidden potentials, fortify their strengths and direct that vital energy
towards achieving the personal, social or economic well being. It is this faith of Vivekananda that

Love, Care, And Treat People With Respect From A Very...
I was taught to love, care, and treat people with respect from a very young age. When I was a
young girl, my mom would take me with her to work. At the time, she worked at an assisted
living center in Rome, Georgia. You see, I was a very quiet and curious child who observed the
world innocently with bright, untainted eyes. I didn t care much to be around the other
children who were usually loud and somewhat bothersome, but I enjoyed being around adults.
So when my mom would take me with her, the elderly people living there found much joy in
having my company. I would sit and listen to them tell me all sorts of stories from their past for
hours on end, but I loved to hear about them. In a way, I somehow understood that these people
were lonely and only had so much time left. They just wanted someone who could appreciate
them and what they had to say; they wanted to feel like they were of some importance and had a
sense of meaning. I cared greatly about what they had to say, even though I didn t understand it
that much. More importantly, I cared about their feelings and wellbeing. I can still remember at
least two of my mom s patients. One was a man named Lou, and I believe he wore a prosthetic
leg. He was a very sweet and dear old man who loved the outdoors. My mom would bring him
outside in the mornings to watch the birds and to get some fresh, crisp, morning air. He had
become a great friend to the both of us, a bit like a father and

Freedom Of Speech And The Right Of Bear Arms
After 9/11, Netanyahu argued against regarding basic liberties such free speech and the right to
bear arms as absolutes. In modern western society, we have rights, such as freedom of speech, and
in some countries, the right to bear arms. In response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Netanyahu
argues that these rights are not universal to everybody. We need to set limits as to how far these
rights can take us and suspend these rights for some people, because not everybody deserves to be
granted these rights. At times when we are under threat from terrorism, we need to reduce freedom
of speech and the second amendment in order to protect ourselves. There are also people who do
not deserve these rights at all, because they will use them in order to further the terrorists agenda.
Freedom of speech will encourage people to convince others that terrorist acts are acceptable, and
will further convince people to join terrorist organizations and participate in terrorist acts.
Furthermore, Netanyahu believes that terrorism is something that should not be taken lightly. We
must do everything in our power to prevent and fight terrorism, and reducing the levels of rights
that we have is one of the measures that we have to take. It is not only what we should do in the
country that we live in. Netanyahu believes that we should take a hardline approach to terrorism. It
is important for us to go into other countries and fight terrorists through whatever methods are
necessary,

Comparing El Paso, Texas And London Essay
Imagine yourself moving to a different city. You have looked at all the cities you would most
likely move to and you have finally picked out that El Paso, Texas and London, England are your
two final choices. After narrowing down the options to two cities its important to look at
similarities and differences. Although El Paso, Texas and London, England are similar in their
cheap housing and exuberant job opportunities, they differ in their getaways, job opportunities,
and housing. El Paso and London are very similar in that the cities don t only offer housing at a
very affordable rate, but also have created ways to employ its citizens. The similarities between
the cities affordable homes is that both are using cheaper areas to reconstruct or build new
homes. This causes cheaper rent and mortgages. A similar way the cities are creating jobs is
through teaching skills. El Paso offers the Jobs Corps which provides a counselor to walk
students through steps in getting a job. London also offers a mentor to help guide employees
through the daily routines and requirements to get the job. The two similarities of the cities are
just a few, but there are differences as well. El Paso has many enjoyable adventures. Pamela
Porter quotes Mike Episcopo saying, You ve got 2 million peopl in the El Paso Juarez area, but
when you get up in the canyons, it s like you r in the middle of nowhere (qtd. in Porter 1). To

Salinger s The Catcher Of The Rye
The Underlying Literary Movements in The Catcher in the Rye Everybody has their problems.
Everyone has their downsides, their pitfalls, their quirks. Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of
the novel The Catcher in the Rye (written by J.D. Salinger), is definitely worse than most people.
The book is a flashback in which Holden reflects upon is flunking out of four private high
schools. If this wasn t enough, after his most recent expulsion from Pencey Prep, you d expect a
person to try and improve his life; Holden is the exception to this generalization. The entire book
focuses on his downward spiral towards depression as he reconciles with his past. Throughout
the story, we see Holden adopt a variety of personas as he contemplates the past, exhibiting
ideals that reflect moments in American literature. Thus, we see him grow as a person and
review ideals as Holden tries to gain a sense of who he is and what the next steps he needs to
take to forward his life. A prime example of Holden s emulation of literary ideals comes when the
reader is given the ultimatum of whether Holden is truly a psychotic person or if there is deeper
meaning towards his slow slip into psychosis. The moment goes in depth on the postmodernism
theme when Holden describes to his sister his beliefs towards the poem Comin Thro the Rye.
Through his eyes, he imagines a field of rye; thousands of kids playing in acres upon acres of rye
and no supervision. Now take that field and add a cliff severing the

What Is The Tone In The Masque Of The Red Death
Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe is about when a plague strikes a kingdom
somewhere in Europe. The Prince decides that he can protect himself from this plague by
securing himself in his castle. He believes that the plague won t harm him and that he can defeat
death. But he is not so fortunate at the end of the story. The three literary devices that will be
discussed are the symbol, tone, and theme. The Tone of Masque of the Red Death is more of a
darker atmosphere. At the beginning of the story, the author starts off like this The Red Death had
long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was it is

Starting off for the first symbol is The Red Death is symbolizing the plague and disease that is
taking place in the Kingdom. In the story The Red Death shows up the masquerade ball grabbing
everybody s attention. Poe tells us and now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death.
He had come like a thief in the night. (394). No one would expect the Red Death to come in
especially the prince. Who thought that he would be safe in his big castle. The prince sends his
guards to run after the stranger, but the stranger gets away. The Prince gets away and the
stranger leads him to the seventh room which is the next symbol. The prince follows the
stranger into this room and the reason it symbolizes death because this is where he dies. Poe
describes this room as The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries
that hung all over the ceiling and down the walls, falling in heavy folds upon a carpet of the
same material and hue. But in this chamber only, the color of the windows failed to correspond
with the decorations. The panes here were scarlet a deep blood color. (393). So even though the

Considering the fact that the airline industry is characterized by the presence of a few carriers and
many suppliers vying for business, it comes as no surprise that the power of the suppliers is low
and the airlines have the upper hand in their interactions with the suppliers. Further, even in cases
such as the supply of jet fuel, the carriers like Virgin Atlantic have a distinct advantage, as this fuel
is expensive and a premium product meaning that there are not too many buyers for it making
Virgin Atlantic a favored customer for the aviation fuel companies.

There s a lot of talk about culture in organisations, and it seems to me a bit ethereal.
It s hard to describe, but a culture is very real. It s about the way we do things around here and
there really is a right or wrong Virgin Atlantic way to do things. But you can only maintain any
culture through hard work. We recognise that having a meaningful dialogue with our people is
vital to our culture and to the success of the organisation but it is really very hard to do. It s easy
to think about how a manager can have a conversation with a team member and how that could lead
to improved success for the individual or team. We can help our managers to develop the skills to
have those conversations in an effective, authentic and Virgin Atlantic way.
But it s also about having a dialogue

It has been calculated that American kids see about 200,000 acts of violence and 25,000 murders

American Medical Association conducted a study that found a direct relationship between viewing

Ancient Greek Eyeshadow
Eyeshadow is a cosmetic product used everyday by millions. It also has a way it is made.
Eyeshadow has been used throughout history, and was very common among the ancient Greeks,
Romans, and Egyptians.
In ancient Greece, eye shadow was known as fucus, and Greek women wore shades of green and
blue made from gemstones like lapis lazuli and malachite. From there, the custom spread
throughout the world and down through history. As early as 10,000 BC, in ancient Egypt, men and
women used scented oils and ointments to clean and soften their skin and mask body odor. Dyes
and paints were used to color the skin, body and hair. They rouged their lips and cheeks, stained
their nails with henna, and lined their eyes and eyebrows heavily with kohl. Kohl

The Civil Rights Movement vs. The Black Liberation...
On The Duty of Civil Disobedience, written by Henry David Thoreau, explains that civil
disobedience is the act of standing for your beliefs even though they are against the law. Thoreau
goes on to say that the government (because it is ruled by the majority) is not always right for
everyone especially the individual and the minority. Over the course of American history, there
have been many different groups formed for the purpose of civil disobedience. The two that I am
going to focus on are the activists of the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Panthers of the
Black Liberation Movement. The Civil Rights Movement began in 1954 with the case of Brown

The purpose if this movement was to gain equality for
Black Americans. The activists of the Civil Rights Movement were protesting for things like the
integration of schools and other public places, and equal rights under the law. Martin Luther King
was striving for his people to be seen and treated as equals to their white counterparts. The protest
would mostly consist of sit ins, marching, and boycotting. The activists of this movement preached
non violence and peaceful protest. For example, during many sit ins the police would get involved.
Usually this meant violence, but not by the civil rights activists who were taught not to retaliate.
The protestors would take brutal beatings and do nothing in return (Small). On the other hand is
the Black Liberation movement, which was headed by the Black Panthers. This movement leaned
more towards black separation in order to form their own equal communities. The Panthers
believed that Black Americans would never be equals in a white world and therefore they must
form their own. Not only did the Black Liberation Movement believe in separation, they also
believed that aggression was needed to reach this goal. In the official Black Panther Party Platform

Jazz Music In West Side Story And Romeo And Juliet
In my essay I am going to bring up three different topics. How jazz music makes West Side Story
be evocative of the decade in which it was written, how gang related music would change West
Side Story and Romeo and Juliet, and further how different Romeo and Juliet would be if they
would of sang rather than spoke their soliloquy. Each of these topics has gang related actions and
how music defines the gangs.
In West Side Story both Acts 1 and 2 are mostly instrumental, allowing suspense to form in each
scene. In the 1950 s, gangs are growing more and more. With West Side Story being in New York,
there were the Jets and the Sharks. Jazz music help bring out the actions in each of the two gangs
and helps bring out each of the characters and shows who they really are. In Tonight, the
characters are reflecting on their hopes and dreams. Bernstein crafted the music to mirror the
visions of each character. Jazz music helps build suspense in many scenes in West Side Story, for
instance, in The Gangs Fight in the Street, the music starts to become allegro and the snaps of
their fingers build the suspense even more. The jazz helps show the differences in each gang and
how their actions are like that of the sounds of jazz orchestra. West Side Story also has classical
and pop music played throughout it, and at certain instances all three can be heard together. At the
very end of the musical, the music become piano; and the hurt and anger from Maria is radiated
from the music choice.

Summary Of The Four Idols Of Bacon And Cultural...
Four Idols of Bacon and Cultural Misunderstanding
Introduction
In the Humanistic Tradition the author, Gloria Fiero introduces Francis Bacon as an English
scientist and politician. Bacon known as the leading advocate of the empirical method, is best
known for his work Novum Organum. Fiero looks at Bacon s work because of the importance
of these four classes of Idols. The four classes of idols in Bacon s method are Idols of the Tribe,
Idols of the Cave, Idols of the Marketplace, and Idols of the Theatre. Fiero states, A prophet of the
new learning, he sought to eliminate errors in reasoning derived from blind adherence to
traditional sources of authority and religious beliefs (The Humanistic Tradition page 115). In other
words, Bacon creates a new method that is based on science rather than religious beliefs. This is
essential due to the fact that hypothesis can be validated. In the film Dear White People written,
directed, and co produced by Justin Simien discusses racial tension in prestigious and
predominately white colleges, from a minority perspective. Thus, correlates with the four Idols of
Francis Bacon. A non colored minority student named Kurt, son of the school s president, Garmin
Club House (the house he is affiliated with), and with the assistance of a colored student
conceptualized their annual party theme of interpretation of black culture by painting their faces
black. A minority student named Lionel, insulted by the theme, confronts the party, provoked an

Diversity In The Workplace Paper
There are many ways to help the LGBT community in the workplace with employee affinity
groups, resource groups or business networks. These groups were first started in the early 1990 s
to create organizational structures that provide a clear communication between the employees and
management (How LGBT Adults See Society and How the Public Sees Them, 2013). They also
ensure that the LGBT community have a voice within the organization and they are respected by
others. It is important that the heterosexuals are vocal about backing up people with different
sexual orientation. For example, Barclays Spectrum, provides support for employees that are

In addition, it has been proven that homosexual employees are likely to have positive attitudes
about their jobs over those who see their workplace as an unsupportive environment. A company
that can pledge its support to employees irrespective of their skin color, gender, or sexuality stands
to benefit hugely; firstly by creating a sense of empowerment among employees and secondly by
setting an industry standard that can pave the way for change across society (Gay and Transgender
People Face High Rates of Workplace Discriminationand Harassment, 2014). It is important for
employees with different sexual orientation to come out and share their story with their coworkers,
and hope for support. Even though some may not be supportive, the company should have affinity
groups or have the human resources department communicate openly with the employees about
assistive policies. Although there are still many problems concerning homosexuals in the
workplace, they have come a long way in being accepted into the normal life of

What Does My Mom Mean To Me
It is a Saturday morning around ten o clock, and I am sitting by the door crying because I do not
want to go to dance. My mom gives me no option and miraculously persuades me to hop in the car,
so we can be on our way. As a child, I was taught that when committed to an activity, quitting was
not an option. During my childhood, my mom introduced me to what would soon become my
passions. She keeps me involved and teaches me important morals and life lessons that I apply
everyday. Without the influence of my mom, I would not be as committed to dancing, finding
opportunities through 4 H, and raising sheep.
Through 4 H I have found my interest in livestock, and most importantly my passion for sheep. I
credit this to my mom who signed me up for Clover Explorers in kindergarten. My mom and aunt
started a 4 H Club called Clover Explorers in 2005. There were lessons, experiments, and games
during our monthly meetings. Towards the end of my Clover Explorer experience, I became ...

Problem Change Paper base system The main problem of the AYE in the current situation is the use of data management and storage. AYE has been using paper base system for storing important data and information which is too inaccurate, inefficient, and time consuming. The system leads various troubles, such as, paper lost, or deteriorated. Furthermore, it slow down other processes deliberately. For example, not even delaying the ordering process, but also stock checking. Moreover, it is less efficiency when storing data and information than using computer calculation. • 3. The Christ Of The Covenants The Christ of the Covenants demonstrates the relationship between five covenants God instigated with Adam, Abraham, Noah, Moses, and David in the Old Testament, and how they are reflected in Jesus birth, death, and resurrection in the New Testament. In answering four basic questions, I discovered this main idea to be true time and time again. Robertson exhibits his vast knowledge of the subject with a concisely structured index outlining one clear point for the entire novel. In his book, The Christ of the Covenants, O. Palmer Robertson views the covenants necessary to the understanding of the Scriptures. They are mandatory for us to attempt to interpret the grand scheme of redemption. While the actual word covenant may not appear in Scripture until Genesis 6, some of the five old covenants (Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David) were established prior to this. The performance rituals of the covenants were described in depth, thus providing sufficient proof that they did indeed exist. The main message of Scripture lies in redemption, or the Gospel story of the New Testament. Without the Old Testamentcovenants, we would not be able to understand why and how God fulfills them later on through the birth, death, and resurrection of his son Jesus Christ. Unity describes how the various covenants all relate to one another, beginning with God s covenant with Adam in Creation and the eventual redemption found in Christ. There are two ways the covenants are unified: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Europe s Influence On Western Europe Western Europe is a term that was used to describe a region where many countries, such as Britain, France and Germany, which joined after World Wars, shared the same history. In another perspective, it was also sometimes referring to a region where countries shared the same value: capitalism and democracy. Throughout the history, because of difference events, the position of Western Europein the world has also changed. Moreover, as many new immigrants from the former colonized regions joined Western European countries, Western Europe also gained its economic and political cohesion as most countries became part of NATO and then the European Union. In the present days, while the idea of Western Europe has expanded to more countries, it became dominant in its continent and could be considered as a savior to many other nations. Prior to the 1914, many of the world great powers, such as Britain and France were centrally seated in Western Europe. • 8. Gene Sequencing And The Human Genome Project Gene sequencing is a method that helps us to read the genetic code and to compare normal genes with disease causing genes (Kratz, 2015). It is helpful to determine the precise order of the bases in a DNA strand, and mostly used for genetic variation or mutation that might lead to a development of a disease. This disease causing change can be a substitution, deletion or addition of a single base pair (National Human Genome Research Institute, 2014). Since the human genome project has completed its first draft in 2001, researchers are more keen to find out more about the human genome, the variability of the gene sequences amongst humans, and the relationship between the gene sequence variation to human health (Green et al., 2013). Patents are used to protect the gene sequence worldwide where the patent owner considers there will be a viable market in that area (Merz and Cho,2008).Patenting genes have become popular after the human genome was complete and became more a topic that people debated about (Caulfield and Gold, 2000). The patenting system in gene sequencing is important to discover new medicines and other advances in healthcare (Nuffield Council on Bioethics, 2002). The European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) are looking for ways to develop the current patenting and licensing system in order to make the public handle the situation in a well manner, respect to the current legislation (European Journal of Human Genetics, 2008). Being quite a controversial topic there are a number of ethical issues that arise from the society which will be discussed below. Human dignity Patenting gene sequences has been a topic that has been debated and problematic for quite a while. One main issue that is discussed is human dignity. Thinking about patenting human genes can give the idea of owning the gene sequence. In fact a response from a lawyer would be that patenting is not exactly ownership. This statement is true but doesn t change the way people think about dignity. Many people still think that human genes are commodities. Even though patenting DNA reduces the risk of ... Childhood trauma is the experience of traumatic event or events which creates a substantial and long term damage to the mental and physical growth and development of a child(National Child Traumatic Stress Network, 2013). National prevalence of childhood trauma indicates trauma is a frequent occurrence in which majority of Americas have witnessed or experienced a single or multiple traumatic events before adulthood. • 10. Wilfred Owen s Life And Work Wilfred Owen born in Oswestry, raised in Birkenhead and Shrewsbury. In 1913 Owen broke from the Roam Catholic Church and went to teach English in France. Owen always had the determination to become a poet. While teaching in France, he worked on the rhyming patterns which became the prominent characteristics of his poetry. In 1915 Owen enlisted in the British Army. His first experiences in January May 1917 of active service was as an officer at the Battle of the Somme. Battle of Somme, led to his diagnoses of shell shock and order to return to Britain. While Owen underwent treatment at Craig Lockhart War Hospital, he met one of his literary heroes Siegfried Sassoon. Sassoon provided Owen with encouragement he needed to write about experiences he had throughout the war. However, it was not until the summer of 1917 that he found his true voice. Owen is widely recognized as one of the greatest voices of WWI. The Wilfred OwenAssociation was formed in 1989 to commemorate Wilfred Owen s life and work. The poems for which Owen is remembered for were written in a period between August 1917 and September 1918. Owen self appointed himself with the task of speaking out for the men in his care. He did this by showing the pettiness of war, which Owen also expressed his distaste for the war in his letters home. Owen s somber practically, energy and umbrage, his humanity are blatant in many of his well known poems. As well as his great technical skills in his phrasings or line set ups ... • 12. The Public School Education System Is Failing Our Youth Hailey Hunter Professor Graue English Composition I 19th November 2015 The Public School Education System is failing our Youth While in high school, many students complained about standardized testing and how ridiculous it was our education standards were on the line for it. How we never learned anything long enough to remember it. Students are supposed to enjoy learning. Instead students dread their mornings and hours spent in a classroom. Pass the OGT or the new PARCC testing in order to graduate. Being taught at an impossible pace that many cannot remember the information for the next year but instead just remember for the moment. There are teachers who are sitting fancy, but don t even do their job to the core standards. Looking at a few others who notice these flaws, a source from Sandra Stotsky s article says: To begin with, education schools supply far too many teachers with an inadequate background in the subjects they are licensed to teach. As one school administrator discovered when she examined her teacher s college transcripts while preparing a proposal for a Teaching American History grant, fully one third of our middle school social studies teachers had zero hours in college history courses. Another 53 percent had fewer than ten hours of any college history. (Stotsky 44). Many teachers cannot answer your questions simple or not. Each individual author has their own way of telling a story; also they have a certain way to portray their story to an audience. For two specific short stories Everything That Rises Must Converge and Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter we can analyze to see what point of view and voice is being used. Mrs. Dutta always tries to hide her true feelings from her family, and is reluctant to tell the truth to her best friend in India, but the reader knows Mrs. Dutta s true feelings. Also we can see how the voice affects the plot of each story. Since both Everything That Rises Must Converge and Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter have a similar voice, the plots in both stories are affected almost the same way. With the voice being from a third person point of view the reader is able to know the qualities of each character. In Everything That Rises Must Converge knowing both emotions for Julian and his mother, we are able to see both sides of what they are thinking. This helps with knowing the actions that might take place next and also to know why the character responded in such a way. Julian s mother is very prejudice, and since the reader is able to know her feeling we can see why Julian acted the way he did when he saw an African American man get on the bus. In Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter knowing Mrs. Dutta s feeling about living with her son we can see why she is reluctant to share that information with her best friend as she thinks it would be un honorable. We can also see that the feeling is mutual with her son s wife. This explains the harsh attitude against Mrs. Dutta and Mrs. Dutta s need to hide things from the family. In both stories ... Plastic surgery deals with human appearance and is becoming a more profitable business throughout the years. It is divided into two sections, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. An ethical dilemma that corresponds to plastic surgery is the loss of human values patients encounter once they undergo surgery. Also, individuals that depend on cosmetic surgery detract from patients that are in urgent need of these procedures. Due to the high demand for fillers, laser, and Botox, physicians perform cosmetic procedures that are non surgical with no training. An ethical concern for patients and healthcare providers is that these so called problems should be enhanced and dealt with rather than result in aesthetic surgery. The real value of a person cannot be reduced to his/her appearance, and medicine as an art, should feel the obligation to resist these modern ideologies and should attempt to help people get a more authentic attitude about themselves. Virginia Woolf uses Big Ben as a tool to unite the characters whose lives seem so disconnected. To Clarissa Dalloway, the chimes serve as an unbroken reminder of inevitable death. With each ring, she sends waves outward into the dimensions of time and life, dramatically affecting those around her. Through the parallels drawn between Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Smith, Virginia Woolf is able to use the notion of inevitable death to address the complexity of human nature and the erraticism of the conduct in its process. By making the stylistic choice to focus on the internal reflection of death and rely less on external dialogue, Woolf is able to portray the confusion and sensitivity of each of the characters. Throughout the novel, both Clarissa and Septimus meditate on the poetic lines from Shakespeare s Cymbeline, a funeral dirge intended to find comfort in the idea of death. Fear no more the heat o the sun/ Nor the furious winter s rages, (9). In the eyes of the novel, this quotation initially serves to remind Clarissa of her perpetual aging and inevitable mortality. Where death would eliminate the obstacles of such a complex world, this heat appears as something wonderful to Clarissa. In fearing the constant propulsion forward in time, Mrs. Dalloway often reminisces of the past. She refers to her time at the age of eighteen with Sally Seton, her female lover, as a match burning in a crocus, (32). • 23. Morality And Ethics Of The Auschwitz And Art Spiegelman s... Morality is adaptable in extreme situations. The Holocaust is an example of what happens to one s morality when forced to adapt to animalistic behavior in order to survive. Life in Auschwitz required a purging of one s human dignity for survival. Prisoners were constantly exposed to perpetual dehumanization, which inevitably led to the dehumanization, and restoration of one s mental, physical, and social adaptation. Because of this, one s morality begins to erase. It is in the adaptation of living in a merciless world that the line separating right and wrong begins to blur. Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz and Art Spiegelmans Maus, both represent how morality and ethicsare challenged in the means of survival. Man is bound to pursue his own ends by all possible means, while he who errs but once pays dearly. (Levi 1.3). In one short sentence, Levi sums up the situation: its human nature to use any means necessary to survive. And that s exactly what happens in the camp. There are many in the camps who are not able to cope with its horrible circumstances. Unfortunately, those who are unable to cope result in animalistic behavior. When being exposed to inhumane conditions, one begins to act inhumane. Null is an example of one who regresses into an unconscious state of being. Levi presents Null as an example of one who has resulted in doing anything and everything to survive. Levi recounts, when he speaks, when he looks around, he gives the impression of being empty ... The religious people would say, well of course he does, while the non religious people or atheist would say no He does not exist. Because evil exist and chaos exists, God cannot be all powerful. In the modern world, there are many different opinions as to whether a God exists or not. This has been an issue of great dispute because many people reverence different gods or no god at all. For years, many philosophers have come up with theories, proofs, and hypotheses to prove the existence of God, and a canon of arguments has been developed. The Arguments for the Existence of God sets out to explain the everyday philosophical arguments for theism, and so to explore the case for the existence of God. The arguments themselves are arranged under the following headings: The Ontological Argument, The Cosmological Argument, The Teleological Argument, and The Moral Argument will determine if there really is a God. • 34. Authoritarian Technologies In The Whale And The Reactor Although Ursula Franklin and Langdon Winner both classify technology in different ways, they bring up many similar points regarding the intersection of power and technology in our everyday life. Franklin s theory of technology as practice categorizes technology as either prescriptive or holistic in The Real World of Technology , which correlates well with Winner s idea of technology being created with either authoritarian or democratic motives in The Whale and the Reactor. After reading both arguments, a clear correlation can be made between holistic/democratic technologies and prescriptive/authoritarian technologies as a way to describe power in our society. Franklin uses the term technology to define ways of doing something. To her, holistic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Franklin s idea of a prescriptive technology is any process that has been broken down into steps, where workers specialize in only one step. These technologies require discipline and planning, and are designed for compliance (Franklin, 1999). She uses Chinese bronze making to show how each step involves different people, because if they weren t completed properly, the process couldn t continue. Similarly, Winner s view on authoritarian technology in that objects can either be designed to assist those with a hidden agenda to establish patterns of power and authority (Winner, 1986) or that new technologies or some of their qualities can be strongly or specifically linked to parties who are trying to create a need for authority or power. Both of these arguments highlight that these technologies now dominate society, and are no longer restricted to mainly material production. They can be found in administrative and economic activities as well as many aspects governance. Technology can now control where we can and cannot go, removing the need to make decisions. He used the construction of overpasses in New York as an example of this. To control who was able to get into the city, overpasses were built low so only cars (owned by white people in the middle and upper class) could get in and those who took public transit (poor people and racial minorities) could not, limiting the amount of low income citizens. This also shows that new technologies can be created for one purpose (transportation) to disguise hidden motives (controlling the demographic of a population). Franklin also acknowledges this, explaining that although prescriptive technologies have brought us many important products, raised living standards and increased well being, they have also created a culture of compliance (Franklin, 1999). Winner and Franklin both show a concern for these types of technologies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Faust And Religion I will argue that Goethe uses spirituality to fill the void created by science. This is significant because the reversal between science and spirituality is a direct contrast to the idea of Gotterdammerung. Instead of writing about the death of the gods and religion, Goethe uses Faust to promote spirituality as superior to science. At the beginning of the play, Faust is portrayed as a well educated individual. However, even after studying a variety of topics, Faust finds himself no wiser than when [he] began (359). In addition, he realizes that a life of academia is not fulfilling. The words and topics Faust is learning about are meaningless to him. In contrast, the idea of Gotterdammerung claims that the Gods have reached their twilight. The idea further goes on to explain that for us to become who we are, the Gods must have died and passed on . However, Goethe uses Faust to overturn the idea of Gotterdammerung. Throughout the play, Faust abandons the idea of reason to pursue his own fulfillment through spirituality. For Faust, he is experiencing a metaphorical death through his continued studies. He finds that his studies and words are meaningless and there are limits to their application. However, the spirits allow Faust to experience a new lease on life. This entire encounter is constructed through a bet between the Lord and Mephistopheles. Even when Mephistopheles drags Faust into unfortunate situations, Faust places his complete control in the devil. His trust in Mephistopheles represents his absolute trust in spirituality and supernatural powers. Through his experiences with spirits, Faust experiences a wide variety of emotions, from love to tragedy. Even in the darkest of times, Faust experiences more fulfillment through these feelings than academia ever brought him. Goethe using Faust s disillusionment of academia and revitalization through feelings proves to the reader that this is the Gotterdammerung of reason and the rise of ... Those days, Henry was most powerful king in Europe, but Gregory willing to give him problems and wanted to dominate the state. • 42. Comparing The Flea and Valentine Essay Comparing The Flea and Valentine The flea is a metaphysical poem about a man trying to argue a virgin into bed to have sexual intercourse with him. This poem was most likely written to amuse the readers and probably more for a larger male audience. The poem was written in the late 17th century in a period where sex within marriage was like a household chore, but socially, sex before marriage was like a sin, because society was extremely religious. John Donne is attempting to get these thoughts out of her head and persuade her to have sex with him. Metaphysical poets use a lot of elaborate and extended comparisons. They wrote energetic and vigorous poems that went against the common literature of the time. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poet points out that losing her virginity is not a sin. A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead He tries to reverse her views that both society and herself share. He is very persuasive in this poem and uses the flea many times as a symbol of their sexual union and uses many metaphors. He uses many sly phrases also which could easily win his argument and I feel it is making her feel guilty and starting to make her confused and think about the prospects of them having sex. I think that during the end of the first stanza the poet starts to become quite theatrical. Yet this enjoys it before it woo, And pamper d swells in one blood made of two; And this, alas! Is more than we would do. This could be referring to sex. The flea enjoys the blood and so does the man enjoy foreplay. The pamper d swells could be that of sexual organs before sex and yet, because that is not happening, the flea is having a better time at the moment than he is, by sucking their blood. I think that by using this comparison, John Donne is being very intellectual and at this point I feel he may win his argument. The second stanza, John Donne becomes weaker as the girl starts to defend herself and he tries to convey his love for her. John Donne, in this stanza I feel becomes more intimate and uses alliteration and much more poetic techniques. At the beginning of the second stanza, I would assume that the girl has got up and left him.

When I was a young girl, my mom would take me with her to work. At the time, she worked at an assisted living center in Rome, Georgia. You see, I was a very quiet and curious child who observed the world innocently with bright, untainted eyes. I didn t care much to be around the other children who were usually loud and somewhat bothersome, but I enjoyed being around adults. So when my mom would take me with her, the elderly people living there found much joy in having my company. I would sit and listen to them tell me all sorts of stories from their past for hours on end, but I loved to hear about them. In a way, I somehow understood that these people were lonely and only had so much time left. They just wanted someone who could appreciate them and what they had to say; they wanted to feel like they were of some importance and had a sense of meaning. I cared greatly about what they had to say, even though I didn t understand it that much. More importantly, I cared about their feelings and wellbeing. I can still remember at least two of my mom s patients. One was a man named Lou, and I believe he wore a prosthetic leg. He was a very sweet and dear old man who loved the outdoors. In modern western society, we have rights, such as freedom of speech, and in some countries, the right to bear arms. In response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Netanyahu argues that these rights are not universal to everybody. We need to set limits as to how far these rights can take us and suspend these rights for some people, because not everybody deserves to be granted these rights. At times when we are under threat from terrorism, we need to reduce freedom of speech and the second amendment in order to protect ourselves. There are also people who do not deserve these rights at all, because they will use them in order to further the terrorists agenda. Freedom of speech will encourage people to convince others that terrorist acts are acceptable, and will further convince people to join terrorist organizations and participate in terrorist acts. Furthermore, Netanyahu believes that terrorism is something that should not be taken lightly. We must do everything in our power to prevent and fight terrorism, and reducing the levels of rights that we have is one of the measures that we have to take. Although El Paso, Texas and London, England are similar in their cheap housing and exuberant job opportunities, they differ in their getaways, job opportunities, and housing. El Paso and London are very similar in that the cities don t only offer housing at a very affordable rate, but also have created ways to employ its citizens. Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of the novel The Catcher in the Rye (written by J.D. Salinger), is definitely worse than most people. The book is a flashback in which Holden reflects upon is flunking out of four private high schools. If this wasn t enough, after his most recent expulsion from Pencey Prep, you d expect a person to try and improve his life; Holden is the exception to this generalization. The entire book focuses on his downward spiral towards depression as he reconciles with his past. Throughout the story, we see Holden adopt a variety of personas as he contemplates the past, exhibiting ideals that reflect moments in American literature. Thus, we see him grow as a person and review ideals as Holden tries to gain a sense of who he is and what the next steps he needs to take to forward his life. A prime example of Holden s emulation of literary ideals comes when the reader is given the ultimatum of whether Holden is truly a psychotic person or if there is deeper meaning towards his slow slip into psychosis. The moment goes in depth on the postmodernism theme when Holden describes to his sister his beliefs towards the poem Comin Thro the Rye. • 54. Jazz Music In West Side Story And Romeo And Juliet In my essay I am going to bring up three different topics. How jazz music makes West Side Story be evocative of the decade in which it was written, how gang related music would change West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet, and further how different Romeo and Juliet would be if they would of sang rather than spoke their soliloquy. Each of these topics has gang related actions and how music defines the gangs. In West Side Story both Acts 1 and 2 are mostly instrumental, allowing suspense to form in each scene. In the 1950 s, gangs are growing more and more. With West Side Story being in New York, there were the Jets and the Sharks. Jazz music help bring out the actions in each of the two gangs and helps bring out each of the characters and shows who they really are. In Tonight, the characters are reflecting on their hopes and dreams. Bernstein crafted the music to mirror the visions of each character. Jazz music helps build suspense in many scenes in West Side Story, for instance, in The Gangs Fight in the Street, the music starts to become allegro and the snaps of their fingers build the suspense even more. The jazz helps show the differences in each gang and how their actions are like that of the sounds of jazz orchestra. • 55. Summary Of The Four Idols Of Bacon And Cultural... Four Idols of Bacon and Cultural Misunderstanding Introduction In the Humanistic Tradition the author, Gloria Fiero introduces Francis Bacon as an English scientist and politician. Bacon known as the leading advocate of the empirical method, is best known for his work Novum Organum. Fiero looks at Bacon s work because of the importance of these four classes of Idols. The four classes of idols in Bacon s method are Idols of the Tribe, Idols of the Cave, Idols of the Marketplace, and Idols of the Theatre. Fiero states, A prophet of the new learning, he sought to eliminate errors in reasoning derived from blind adherence to traditional sources of authority and religious beliefs (The Humanistic Tradition page 115). In other words, Bacon creates a new method that is based on science rather than religious beliefs. This is essential due to the fact that hypothesis can be validated. In addition, it has been proven that homosexual employees are likely to have positive attitudes about their jobs over those who see their workplace as an unsupportive environment. It is important for employees with different sexual orientation to come out and share their story with their coworkers, and hope for support. Even though some may not be supportive, the company should have affinity groups or have the human resources department communicate openly with the employees about assistive policies. My mom gives me no option and miraculously persuades me to hop in the car, so we can be on our way. As a child, I was taught that when committed to an activity, quitting was not an option. During my childhood, my mom introduced me to what would soon become my passions. She keeps me involved and teaches me important morals and life lessons that I apply everyday. Without the influence of my mom, I would not be as committed to dancing, finding opportunities through 4 H, and raising sheep.
