Nouvena’s first day in the
nursery15.01.13
Today we welcomed Nouvena into the nursery room. Miss Emma and
Miss Janelle cannot wait to watch Nouvena grow and develop through
her mild stones throughout the year. Nouvena was happy to go off and
interact and play with the other children.
Today Nouvena enjoyed playing with the toys in the room and exploring
the new environment which she has settled into.
Nouvena loved story time and sung and clapped her hands to “Never
smile at a Crocodile”. Nouvena used her mathematical skills as she built a
small tower out of the coloured blocks.

28.1.14- Chinese new year!
Today Tait, Jay, Lewis and Nouvena all helped in
making their own Chinese Lantern to display in
the room to help celebrate the Chinese new year.
The children all had turns at sitting at the table to
paint their own unique painting with coloured
paint on to red paper.
Tait and Jay sat together at the table having turns
with each colour of paint, Tait was able to dub
the paint brush onto the paper with the paint
while Jay moved to whole arm around on the
paper while holding onto the paint brush.
Lewis and Nouvena sat together at the table,
Lewis really enjoyed eating the paint while
Nouvena was able to dab the paint brush onto
the paper a couple of times.
The skills the children used:
Fine motor skills
Working together as a small group
Learning to problem solve and work things out for
themselves.
Nouvena on the telephone (11.2.14)
Today Nouvena crawled over to the
phone and flipped the phone open
using her right hand. Nouvena then put
the phone on the floor and pushed the
numbers using her index finger. “Are
you calling mummy?” asked Miss
Emma. Nouvena nodded her head and
smiled. Nouvena picked up the
telephone and put it behind her head.
Nouvena pretended to talk on the
telephone to her mummy while moving
her hips side to side. Nouvena then
waved, put the telephone down on the
floor and crawled over to her peers
where she started playing with the
blocks.

Following up from the childrens interest on the 17.2.14 about body parts and facial features, Miss Emma sat the
children in a group around the large mirror which was attached to the wall. Nouvena and Tait both walked up to the
mirror and smiled. “Who can you see? Asked Miss Emma. Tait and Nouvena looked at each other. “That is you that
you can see in the mirror” said Miss Emma as she tapped on the mirror. “Can you see your eyes” asked Miss Emma as
she pointed to Tait’s and Nouvena’s eyes. Nouvena then was able to point to her own eyes while looking directly into
the mirror.. Mason crawled over to the mirror and pulled himself up. Mason looked at his hands through the mirror.
“These are your hands” exclaimed Miss Emma as she rubbed his hand. Mason looked at Miss Emma then looked down
at his hands. Lewis was next and crawled directly in front of the mirror and began to smile. “Who is that gorgeous boy
I can see” asked Miss Emma. Lewis let out a he smile. Lewis was also looking at his hands. Once again Miss Emma
explained to Lewis that they are his hands. All the children learned about their facial features and body parts and

“Lets make a cubby!” said Miss Maddie as she pulled the table over
into the middle of the room. Tait, Nouvena, Lewis and Mason all
watched Miss Maddie as she placed sheets over the table. “Lets us
some toys in our cubby house!” said Miss Emma excitedly. Tait carried
over a telephone and crawled under the table with it. Tait smiled at
Nouvena and encouraged Nouvena to go under. “Lets put some
pillows in the cubby house ”said Miss Emma as she passed Tait and
Nouvena a pillow. Nouvena smiled and started playing with the toys
under the cubby house. “Mason I hear music coming from the cubby”
said Miss Emma. Mason crawled under and went straight over to the
toy which was playing music. Lewis was quite happy to crawl inside
the cubby house and investigated the surroundings. Tait, Lewis,
Nouvena and Mason all played together in a group and shared lots of

Today Miss Emma took out shaving foam for Nouvena, Tait, Hannah and Mason to play in and explore the textures of the
foam.
Tait and Nouvena were first up! Miss Emma sprayed a large amount of foam in front of each child. Nouvena dipped her finger
tips into the foam and swirled them round and round while feeling the sliminess of the foam. Tait observed Nouvena and
followed her actions by dipping his fingers into the foam. Tait was not keen on the feeling of the foam and did not feel
comfortable participated in the activity, however smiled at Nouvena and started clapping his hands.
Hannah was next and was straight into the foam! Hannah used her left hand to tap her hand up and down onto the foam
making the foam go everywhere. Hannah was giggling and watch the foam go everywhere over the table.
Mason was sitting next to Hannah for a short while and used the palms of his hands to squish the foam which was blown in
front of him by Hannah. Miss Emma squirted more foam in front of Mason. Mason loved sliding his hands backwards and
forwards on the foam.
Nouvena, Tait, Mason and Hannah all discovered a new texture being shaving foam. Nouvena, Hannah and Mason all loved
the slimy feeling on their hands. Tait showed encouragement towards Nouvena while she played in the foam.

Following up from yesterdays experience, today Miss Emma thought it would be a great idea for the
children to do finger painting to explore and investigate the feeling of the paint on their hands.
Ruby sat in the high chair patiently and waited for Miss Emma to get all the paints ready. Miss
Emma put a bowl in front of Ruby with pink and yellow paint. Ruby dipped both her hands straight
into the bowl and wriggled her fingers around in the bowl. “It feels cold” said Miss Emma. Ruby let
out a big grin and continued to rotate her hands around in the paint. Miss Emma lifted up Ruby’s
hand and glided her fingers down the paper. Ruby looked at Miss Emma and started to glide her
fingers around on the paper. “Look how beautiful it looks!” said Miss Emma.
Meanwhile Tait and Nouvena were sitting at the table . Tait and Nouvena knew exactly what to do
with the paint as they remembered from yesterdays experience (shaving foam). Nouvena and Tait
rotated their fingers and hands all over their paper to design their own painting. “Look at the pink
and yellow” said Miss Emma as she pointed to the colours. Tait and Nouvena both used their
listening skills as they watched and listened to Miss Emma. Ruby is beginning to explore the new
textures. And feelings in her hands

“Who would like do a science experiment?” asked Miss Emma. Mason
and Nouvena crawled over to see what Miss Emma was doing. Tait ran
over to Miss Emma and sat straight down observing all the ingredients
which would make our experiment. “We are going to make a volcano”
said Miss Emma excitedly. Tait assisted Miss Emma to poor vinegar into
a cup. Nouvena was very keen to have a turn! “Would you like to help
Miss Emma put the bi-carb soda into the vinegar to see what will
happen?” asked Miss Emma. Nouvena clapped her hands and let out a
big smile. Together Miss Emma and Nouvena poured the bi carb soda
into the vinegar. “Here it comes!” said Miss Emma. Mason moved his
head closer to the cup and watched the reaction from the bi-carb and
vinegar. “Our volcano is erupting!” exclaimed Miss Emma as she
clapped her hands. Tait, Mason and Nouvena all started to clap their
hands in excitement as they watched the liquid flow over the cup. Miss
Emma explained to the children that by adding bi-carb soda to vinegar,
it forms lots of small bubbles and when the bi-carb is added it forces
the liquid up and out of the cup.

Today Miss Emma set out sponge painting for all the children to enjoy. Miss Emma sat up at
the table with one child at a time.
Miss Emma took Madison up to the table and kneeled down behind her. “Look at all the pretty
colours Maddie” said Miss Emma. Miss Emma put the different coloured paints in front of
Madison. Madison reached out to the orange and yellow paint with her hands. Miss Emma
picked up the sponges and encourage Madison to grip onto the sponge with her hand. Miss
Emma then placed her hand over the top of Madison’s hand and assisted her to tap the sponge
onto the paper. “doesn’t that look beautiful” said Miss Emma. Madison began to clap her
hands while smiling.
Nouvena was very keen to get creative! Nouvena sat at the table and reached straight out for
the sponges. Nouvena then dipped her sponges into the paint, then tapped it up and down
onto her paper. Nouvena opened her mouth up wide as if to say “Whoa”. “That looks very
colourful” said Miss Emma. “Yeah” said Nouvena as she nodded her head.
“Its your turn now Hannah” said Miss Emma as she clapped her hands. Hannah came crawling
over and sat at the table . Miss Emma put the paints in front of Hannah so she could make her
own selection of the coloured paints she wanted to use. Miss Emma put three different
shaped sponges in front of Hannah. Hannah grabbed onto the small square sponge. Miss
Emma held onto Hannah’s hand and pressed the sponge into the paint. Miss Emma then
assisted Hannah in pressing the sponge onto the paper. Hannah watched her hand move up
and down though this craft experience and observed the colours of the paints.
Ruby was sitting nicely watching all of her other friends do their sponge painting. “Its your
turn now Ruby” said Miss Emma as she picked her up and placed her on the chair. Ruby
grabbed onto the sponge immediately ! Ruby lent over to the orange paint with her sponge in
her hand. Miss Emma then assisted Ruby in stamping the sponge onto the page.
Ruby, Hannah, Nouvena and Madison all worked independently while doing their coloured
sponge painting. All the children were being creative and using their imagination.

princess dress and magician cape. Nouvena sat down next to the
princess dress and started to play with the material. Miss Maddie
then picked up the princess dress and helped Nouvena put it on.
Nouvena then took Miss Maddie's hand leading her towards the
container full of dolls. “What doll are you going to play with
Nouvena?” Miss Maddie asked passing her one of the teddy bears.
Nouvena pushed the teddy bear away picking up her own doll
from the container as well as a dress for the doll. Nouvena then
passed the dress and doll to Miss Maddie for assistance on putting
the dress on the doll. After passing the doll back , Nouvena took a
seat on the mat happily playing with her doll.

Today Miss Maddie set out different resources for Nouvena, Tait and Mason to make their own chickens. “Lets make our
chickens” said Miss Maddie. Tait and Nouvena came walking over and started to point to the yellow tissue paper. “This is
paper and we are going to use this to make our chickens” said Miss Maddie.
Tait grabbed handfuls of tissue paper and started tearing the tissue paper apart. “This is the colour yellow” said Miss
Maddie to Nouvena and Tait.
Nouvena and Tait grabbed onto the paint brush and began to paint the paper plate yellow. “Chickens are yellow” said Miss
Maddie. Nouvena smiled and continued to paint her plate.
Miss Maddie then lifted Mason up onto the chair. “Lets paint your plate yellow” said Miss Maddie to Mason. Mason
gripped onto the paint brush and started to tap the paint brush up and down leaving splotches on his plate. Miss Maddie
then placed glue over Nouvena’s, Tait and Mason’s plate. “Lets put the yellow tissue paper onto the plates”. Tait grabbed
handfuls of tissue paper again and stuck it onto the plate, using his palm. Nouvena picked up small amounts of tissue
paper and carefully placed it onto her plate. Mason watched Nouvena as she sprinkled her tissue paper onto her plate.
Mason then picked up small pieces of tissue paper and put small portions onto his plate. “lets add eyes and legs to the
chickens now” said Miss Maddie as she added two eyes to the chicken and two legs to the chicken. All the children used

children stopped playing and turned to Miss Emma and started to read along
to the story. Through out the story Miss Emma had the matching CD on which
also read along to the story.
Miss Emma began to clap her hand onto her knee to make extra noise. Mason
and Nouvena started to clap their hands and wiggle their body around to the
music. Madison was sitting on Miss Emma’s lap and looked closely at the
pictures in the story. Madison was amused at watching Miss Emma sing and
move her body along to the beat of the music.
Hannah enjoyed sitting back and watching her peers dance and sing along to
the music. Hannah loved listening to and looking at the white horses in the
story.
Ruby also sat back and watched her peers sing and dance along to the story.
Ruby was interested in looking at the different foods in the story. “Look at the
yummy ice-cream in the story” Ruby smiled at Miss Emma and held onto Miss
Emma’s shirt and gave her a lovely cuddle.
Mason, Ruby, Nouvena, Hannah and Madison all worked collaboratively in a

Tait replied “Yeah”. As Miss Maddie started to read the story the children began to come
closer to the story and look at the pictures. Tait stood up and started to poke his finger
through the holes of the book where the caterpillar had eaten through all the food. “The
caterpillar must have been very hungry!” said Miss Emma. Nouvena layed her head down on
the pillow and enjoyed listening to Miss Maddie read the story. “Do you like to eat apples
Nouvena?” asked Miss Maddie. Nouvena stood up and walked over to the book and pointed
to the apple. “Well done Nouvena that is an apple!” said Miss Maddie excitedly. Ruby also sat
back and listened to Miss Maddie read the story. Ruby crawled up to the top of the cushions
and sat beside Nouvena. Ruby was particularly interested in the caterpillar and started waving
her arms around as she saw more of the caterpillar as the pages were turned. “Look, the
caterpillar has now turned into a beautiful butterfly! “ said Miss Maddie. All of the children
looked closely at the butterfly. “Did you enjoy the book Nouvena?” asked Miss Maddie.

pointed to the chickens. “Do you want to go to the chickens?” asked Bellan.
Nouvena was getting excited and began to smile. Bella pushed Nouvena over to
the chickens. Nouvena opened the door, hopped out and held onto the gate as
she looked into the chickens area. Nouvena pointed to the chickens. “There the
chickens!” said Bella. “Oooh” said Nouvena. Nouvena smiled at Bella and
walked back over to the car. Nouvena opened the door, sat on the seat and
closed the door behind her. Nouvena grabbed onto the steering wheel and
started to turn the sterring wheel side to side. Nouvena then put her left foot in
front of her right foot and used her leg muscles to push herself forward slightly in
the car. She then placed her right foot in front of her left foot and used her lower
body strength to push herself forward again. Nouvena was smiling at Bella.
Bella started to clap her hands at Nouvena and yelled out “Yay”.

“Who would like to do a craft!” said Miss Emma excitedly. Nouvena walked over to Miss Emma
and smiled. “would you like to make a Easter egg” asked Miss Emma. Nouvena smiled, pulled
the chair out and sat down. Miss Emma placed a container full of collage pieces in front of
Nouvena. Nouvena reached out to the glue and dabbed the glue over the paper using a glue
stick. Nouvena then picked up small pieces of material and placed them onto her egg. “Your egg
looks so colourful!” said Miss Emma. Nouvena smiled and continued on to decorate her egg.
Hannah was next and sat on the chair beside Miss Emma. “Lets put some glue onto the paper
first” said Miss Emma. Miss Emma assisted Hannah to cover the egg in glue. Miss Emma placed
the material pieces onto the egg to show Hannah what to do. Hannah watched and followed Miss
Emma’s actions. Hannah picked up one material piece at a time and gentle placed it onto her egg.
“I love the feather you used” said Miss Emma. Hannah started to clap her hands and picked up
more pieces of material and spread them out over her egg using her palms.
“Would you like to have a turn Kahlee-Rose” asked Miss Emma. Kahlee-Rose let out a huge smile!
Miss Tanya sat on the chair with Kahlee-Rose and placed the glue onto the paper. Miss Tanya
spread out the assorted materials onto the table for Kahlee-Rose to grab. Kahlee-Rose lent

My Poppy Painting for Anzac
Day
After having a wonderful morning outside, Tait, Nouvena and Kahlee-Rose came inside and
all prepared to do their daily craft experience. “Who would like to paint their hands red
and make a poppy?” asked Miss Emma. Tait and Nouvena sat at the table together and
used their listening skills as Miss Emma gave them instructions. “We are going to paint our
hands red then swirl our hands over the paper to make our poppy. A poppy is a flower and
it represents all the brave people who fought for our country” explained Miss Emma.
“Yeah” said Tait as he slowly nodded his head up and down. Nouvena smiled at Tait and
Miss Emma. Miss Emma held onto Tait’s hand, painted his hand red then opened his hand
out over the paper and done a large circular motion to leave a large red circle on his paper.
Miss Emma used the same steps with Nouvena. Once Nouvena had made her flower she
began to clap her hands together and ruby her fingers together, Nouvena enjoyed the
feeling of the cold paint in her hands.
Kahlee-Rise sat on Miss Tanya’s lap as Miss Emma painted her right hand. Kahlee-Rose was
happy to sit on Miss Tanya’s lap and watched Miss Emma paint her hand red. Kahlee-Rose
was talking and smiling to Miss Emma while Miss Emma stretched Kahlee-Rose’s fingers
out and place her hand onto the paper. Miss Emma assisted Kahlee-Rose in doing a circular
motion on the paper to create a red poppy. “That is beautiful” said Miss Emma. Kahlee-
Rose started to rub her fingers together and feel the sliminess of the paint in between her
fingers.
Once Kahlee-Rose, Tait and Nouvena had made their poppy Miss Emma painted a small
black circle in the centre of the poppy.
At 11.00am, Bay Cottage had a minute silent to celebrate all the brave soldiers who fought

Following on with learning about Australian animals, today Miss Emma went around the centre and collected different Australian leaves including
bottle brushes for the children to investigate and use their sensory skills while feeling the different leaves.
“Look what Miss Emma has” said Miss Emma as she sat beside Kahlee-Rose and Madison. Tait and Nouvena walked over to where Miss Emma
was sitting. “Everybody sitting down” asked Miss Emma politely. Tait, Ruby and Nouvena sat down in a group. “Thankyou for listening” said Miss
Emma as she smiled. “Yeah” said Tait.
“Miss Emma bought in some leaves for us to play with. Tait and Nouvena were first to grab out the leaves. “These are eucalyptus leaves”
explained Miss Emma. “Our koalas live in eucalyptus tress and eat these leaves. Nouvena was very interested in listening to Miss Emma speak
about Koalas.
Miss Emma passed Kahlee-Rose, Madison and Ruby a bottle brush each. “These are our bottle brushes” said Miss Emma as she held up one of
the bottle brushes. Tait and Nouvena looked closely at the bottle brushes. Nouvena and Tait both picked up a both brush and began to squeeze it
in their hands. “Does it feel all squishy?” asked Miss Emma. Nouvena passed Miss Emma the bottle brush to feel. “Oh it does feel all squishy
doesn’t it!” said Miss Emma. “Our birds love to eat the yummy nectar out of the bottle brush” explained Miss Emma. Kahlee-Rose and Madison
observed the bottle brush before they gripped onto the bottle brush firmly. Madison shook the bottle brush up and down and enjoyed feeling the
leaves. Kahlee-Rose grinded her finger nails through the bottle brush while enjoying the texture of the leaves. Ruby was happy to sit back and
watch her friends play with the bottle brushes. Ruby used her listening skills as she listened to Miss Emma talk about our Australian animals.

2/12/14Naz, Koen and Lewis used both hands to
draw and write at the same time.
Abby, Charlie-Rose and Nouvena all
concentrated and watched their hand
move across the page.
Jay, Tait and Reid used their fine motor
skills to move the felt pens across the
page.
The Toddlers manipulated the felt pens and
experiment with cause and effect as they
moved the felt pens on the paper. (L.O-4.2)
To follow up on this activity we can use
different materials to draw with.
Balancing and jumping
3/12/14
The Toddlers are combining
gross and fine motor movement
and balance to achieve
increasingly complex patterns of
activity including stepping over
objects and follow the leader
across the balance beam and
over the tyre.(L.O-3.2)
To follow up on balance and following
others I will make a small obstacle course
for the Toddlers to follow me around up
and over equipment.
Washing our Hands
4/12/14
Today the Toddlers were showing me how to
wash their own hands. The Toddlers self help
skills have come along way in the last 2 months.
During hand washing the children are getting to
understand the importance of hand washing
throughout their day.
The Toddlers enjoy the feeling of soap on their
hands and fingers and rinsing it off under the
running tap. Then the Toddlers use the hand
dryer to dry their hands.
The Toddlers are taking an increased
responsibility for their own health and physical
wellbeing. (L.O-3)
Emotions 9/12/14
Today at group time the Toddlers were following
Miss Mells actions. Miss Mell than made a “Happy
Face” and watched the children make faces back at
her.
We all sung “If your happy and you know it” and
the Toddlers were making the faces of each emotions
and expressing a wide range of emotions as we sung
the song. (L.O-1.4)
Angry
Tired
Happy
Excited
Sad
What a busy day we have had in the toddler room. We
started off by making a cubby house together, Nouvena
and Jay were excited when Miss Maddie had finished
the cubby house. Cooper, Reid, Malakai, Tait, Hannah
Naz all joined Nouvena and Jay in the cubby house,
together we all had group time. Miss Maddie brought
out her special puppets, as we all sang songs together.
Naz was excited when Miss Maddie brought out her
sheep puppet, Naz clapped his hands with a big smile on
his face. Naz let forward when singing ‘baa baa black
sheep’ giving the puppet a big kiss. Jay happily sung
along to ‘Tiny Turtle’ and ‘five little speckled frogs. Miss
Maddie brought out a pop up book called ‘The wide
mouth frog’ Malakai was very excited, pointing to the
different animals that would pop up on the page.
Hannah and Jay would tell Miss Maddie what each
animal was called.
Learning Outcome 1.4 – Toddlers show interest in other
children and being part of a group.
Cooking with playdough
15/12/14
Today the Toddles were
cooking with playdough.
They used the utensils from
home corner with the
playdough. The Toddlers
manipulated the utensils
with purpose and skill in
the playdough. (L.O-4.2)
The Toddlers filled bowls
and cups with playdough
using their mathematical
skills to fill the containers
with different sized pieces
of playdough.
To follow up on this activity
we will make playdough as a
group cooking experience.
Today Allyra, Flynn,
Hannah and Ava sat at the
table with the playdough
and manipulated it using
wooden tools including
rolling pins and sticks.
(L.O-4.1)
Today Ruby, Tait, Naz, Charlie-Rose
and Nouvena sat down at the puzzle
table and were open to new
challenges and discoveries as they
moved the puzzle pieces around to do
the puzzle. (L.O-1.2)
The children recognised their individual
achievements and the achievements of
others. When they would finished the
puzzle they would say “Yeah” and the all
the children would say “Yeah” (L.O-1.2)
17/12/14
To Nouvena

Miss Emma put three different shaped sponges in front of Hannah. Hannah grabbed onto the small square sponge. Miss Emma held onto Hannah’s hand and pressed the sponge into the paint. Miss Emma then assisted Hannah in pressing the sponge onto the paper. Hannah watched her hand move up and down though this craft experience and observed the colours of the paints. Ruby was sitting nicely watching all of her other friends do their sponge painting. “Its your turn now Ruby” said Miss Emma as she picked her up and placed her on the chair.
