handmaids tale Essay
The central social hierarchy within the novel is the gender hierarchy, placing men in a position of
extreme power. This is evident in every aspect of the book, as the entire Gilead society is male
dominated. The Commander is at the top of the hierarchy and is involved with designing and
establishing the current society taking controlof a nation of women, and exploiting their power by
controlling what is taught, what they can teach themselves and the words that they can use. Soon
all of the women will become brainwashed, simply because it is made nearly impossible to defy
the rules

Unwoman are last because no one wants them and they are outcasts.
In the handmaid s tale the government has given the lead character and presumably all the other
character a pill that makes them forget their past. In the case of the main character its
effectiveness was not 100 percent and she remembers scraps of her previous life n her dreams. In
her dreams she remember s how they took her daughter away and how she loves her husband.
Offred has no clue to his whereabouts or even if he s alive.
The agents of control in offreds life start with the aunts in training the handmaid s. the role is to
mold the handmaid s into their society, to make them presume that everything is the norm and not
to desire more. Secondly is the eye. They are the thought in the backs of peoples minds that makes
them follow the rules. No one knows quite who they are and can never be sure who to trust. This is
the perfect way to control people without a constant presence.
I think Gilead is thought of as a theocracy it is a government in which there is no separation
between state and religion. Its official vocabulary incorporates religious terminology and references
to the bible. House servants are Marthas in reference to the woman who helped Jesus in the New

Plus Size Women
In my opinion, we need not discuss a reconciliation of sorts regarding the greater degree of
acceptance of plus size women with the parallel emphasis our society continues to place on
thinness because I think that comparison would be based upon approval versus acceptance. My
reasoning is this, images where media now portrays plus size women in a positive light and
encourages society to accept plus size as beautiful, does not encourage/approve of the health
problems associated with obesity. We can find the beauty in all people. Size does not determine
whether or not someone is a loving, caring, kind, or beautiful person; therefore, the mindset that
these images should not be accepted due to health problems is foolish to me. Let us look... Show

Additionally, when people feel accepted, they feel better about themselves. Accepting a person
because they are plus size does not necessarily encourage them to live an unhealthy lifestyle. In
fact, these women may feel more confident and actually take the initiative to get active, and not
because they are chasing the need to feel accepted, but because they are less self conscious and
able to walk out in public without feeling inferior due to lowered self esteem. As we know, self
esteem influences consumer behavior (Solomon, 2017). Social media is providing a platform
for plus size women to have a voice. There are so many plus size models and bloggers that have
created pages strictly built to encourage and empower women who may feel like they do not fit
society s mode. Social media has brought about a self acceptance to the masses. It allows
consumers to voice their stance, which often times expresses the way many others feel, and set a
tone to make changes. For example, a blogger Jes Baker, also known as Militant Baker, posted a
letter to Abercrombie Fitch regarding his sizeism. (Katz, 2015). Her voice was heard throughout
social media. Hence, social media is impacting beauty

What Is The Differences Between The Monarchy, Aristocracy,...
In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and
democracy in Ancient Greece.
Monarchy.
There are two types of monarchy one is a constitutional monarchy and the other is absolute
monarchy. Absolute monarchs are really all powerful, they are able to pass laws and veto any
law passed or suggested by politicians, a constitutional monarch has less power and is really only a
figurehead as a head of state.
In Ancient Greece there were not really a lot of monarchies, there was of course Sparta with its
unique two King system. The two Kings come from the direct descendants of the founders of
Sparta, they weren t really absolute monarchs because they had the ephors stopping them from
taking too many decisions that could be harmful to the state (Cartwright, 2013). There were other
monarchies in the times of Ancient Greece, most notably Macedonia, that went on to conquer
Greece in 336 BCE (Brand, n.d. ,p36).
Aristocracy.
This was the rule of a few elite people. They were always the richest people and what we would call
today the Lords or Ladies. They were the highest of the upper classes. This would have given them
a good chance of perks and probably a good way of becoming wealthier (Mahabal, Joshi, 2017).
Tyranny.
A tyranny could be described as a government that would be ... Show more content on

In Ancient Greece there were two specìfic times when Athens was an Oligarchy. In 411 BCE
the oligarchy of 400 took power by overthrowing the assembly, it seems they were a little
tyrannical in the way they acted, and were overthrown by the oligarchy of 5000, who were more
moderate (Cartwright, 2013). In 404 BCE Athens was defeated in Sicily and then there was yet
another power change to the oligarchy of the 30 tyrants, this was a bad time for Athens as these
people were really cruel summarily executing people (Cartwright,

How Does Mark Twain Use Satire In Advice To Youth
Mark Twain was one of the most popular writers in the victorian era. He wrote many works that
are still popular today. But, Mark Twain s Advice to Youth involves humor and is most known
for its satire. In the work Mark twain critiques society and the behavior of people relevant to
today s society by talking about how parents think they know more than kids. He also gives
advice to youth which is still relevant today. He gives advice on fighting, violence and also about
lying and how to lie.
Mark Twain does critique society and the behavior of people relevant to today s society. In his
work Advice to Youth Twain critiques parents about how they think they know more than their
kids. In today s society almost every single parent say to their kid I m your parent and I know more
than you. Therefore I know what s best for you . Twain also critiques society by making fun of
people who say getting up early is best. He uses satire to make fun of stereotypes and old wise

In his work, Twain talks about how lying is a great art and it should be practiced. He states that
A feeble, stupid lie will not live for two years... It is indestructible . In today s youth a lie will be
known forever if it is a terrible lie but if you practice and are an expert at lying no one will know
and everything will be fine. Also, Mark Twain states to never handle a firearm carelessly, and
that suffering and sorrow will come from it. He says that the youth is careless and can cause
great harm, which is true, so they need to be careful and taught what the right thing to do is. In
addition to those he gives advice on reading. Twain tells the youth to be careful in your selection
of what you read. Which is still a good idea today because some book aren t meant to be read by
the youth. Mark Twain gave advice to the youth in his era but it is still relevant

Cbg In Cannabis
What is Cannabigerol or CBG in Cannabis?
Cannabigerol or CBG for short, is most recognized as a clear headed high that is very therapeutic.
Much like CBD, cannabigerol is not a psychoactive cannabinoid. CBG was first discovered by
researchers in 1964 as a component of hash.
Interestingly, CBG is now known as a precursor in a marijuana plants process to create both THC
and CBD. This is a vital cannabinoid considering the cannabis plant requires it to combine with
other enzymes to make the compounds that get us stoned or pain free. Without CBG we would
never have THC.
How does CBG effect my high?
Sedative and analgesic effects. A pleasant soothing feeling as stress and anxiety disappear. Lowered

Who are the Working Poor
In class, we ve talked a great deal about all of the aspects that underline the concept of poverty.
From reading about it in our book, researching online, and grabbing a personal text, I was highly
intrigued with the components that make up the working poor, it s actual definition, and so much
more. Before getting into the statistics, a simple definition of the working poor is that it is a
group of people who spend about twenty seven weeks or more in a year either working or looking
for work, but their incomes fall below the level of poverty(USDAVIS, 2013). With this definition, it
is understandable as well as difficult to take in because there are a lot of people that face this, and
there are others that are even less fortunate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the family spending patterns in 1955, it is clear that it is no longer valid today. Tax time
in poor neighborhoods is not April; it s January. The checks that come from Washington include
not only a refund of taxes withheld, but also an additional payment, the Earned Income Tax
Credit; that is designed to subsidize low wage working families (Shipler, 2004). It is common
sense that you would not receive this credit unless you file, but some do not file and avoid the
IRS; it has been proved that you come up ahead when you do file because you keep everything
you ve earned plus you receive a credit. As much as it is talked about, many workers prefer to
earn under the table and keep their finances unrecorded due to shame, sorrow, not educated on the
subject, etc. High interest may also be the most universal trap for low wage workers. From
research, poor people and investment bankers seem to have one thing in common: they both spend
considerable amounts of energy thinking about money. (Shipler, 2004). With that, they have to
juggle, predict, and plan, and every decision involves a lengthy step by step process. From
research and just even walking down the streets of Chicago for example, it seems to be that there is
the stigma that the poor are supposed to sacrifice, suffer, and certainly

Anthrax Is A Disease Of Herbivores And Commonly
Introduction
Anthrax is a disease of herbivores and commonly infects the human through direct contact with the
infected animals or ingests contaminated animal products. The causative agent of anthrax is
Bacillus anthracis, rod shaped, gram positive bacteria and able to form endospore. [1] The spores
of bacillus anthracis could affect both humans and animals through different routes and lead to a
variety of clinical significant. Cutaneous, inhalational and gastrointestinal anthrax are the most well
known diseases caused by bacillus anthracis. The recent Anthrax outbreak in 2009 resulted in
injectional anthrax, an anthrax disease that affects heroin users. [2] In this essay, the main focus is
on injectional anthrax including a briefly description of Bacillus anthracis, the range of symptoms
it may cause when injected into heroin users and the discussion of the methods to inactivate B.
anthracis spores.
Bacillus anthracis
Anthracis belongs to genus Bacillus, rod shaped, gram positive bacteria. Its special characteristic is
their ability to form dormant endospores in response to extreme conditions including nutrient
deprivation and other environmental factors. The spores are antimicrobial and antibiotic resistance
enables the organism to survive and endure in such unfavorable conditions. B.anthracis is an
extremely virulent pathogen and the causative agent of anthrax, the disease in mammal known as
cutaneous, respiratory tract, gastrointestinal anthrax and injectional anthrax

Analysis Of Kelly Sue Deconnick s Bitch Planet
Contextualizing a Visual Motif In Bitch Planet by Kelly Sue DeConnick there is another world
built through the cartoon. Women are dictated by their fathers, or controlling men of the society,
and punished for being obese or not what the men perceive as perfect. It brings the reader into a
futurist world which has some of the same twisted ideas of the modern world. It enlarges the idea
that bigger women are unwanted and sexualizes thin women in advertisements and in casual
conversation. This is can be seen throughout multiple panels of the comic. The comic is repetitively
sexualizing the thin women and shamming the bigger women with the use of language and
background images. There are two images of a womaneatingfood in a seductive... Show more

Celebrities everywhere are cutting out things from their diet that they do not need to in order to
lose weight. Thousands of people will also starve themselves because they think that it helps
them to lose weight, but it just hurts their body more. The writer exemplifies the problems in
today s pop culture to a new level to allow the reader to see how insane it really is. On the next
page we can see the men casually speaking poorly of the bigger woman who is working. One of
them talks about having sex with a skin and saying how wild it is while smiling and sipping on
his coffee with no cares about who overhears him (DeConnick 195). It shows how the men have
little shame in what they say and are proud of themselves for doing such things. Directly after
that there is a close up of the larger woman. This forces the reader to focus on her face and her
face alone. From this image you can see the pure anger and frustration in her face from what
these men are saying. By using this tactic, the writer is amplifying the emotion in order to ensure
that the reader does not have a chance to miss this important detail. Following that we see the
news report continue on about the parasite conveying it in a way that is positive and makes it
sound as if it is something that everyone should experience. By using words like wish and dream

The Scottsboro Trials, Brown v. Mississippi, and trial of Tom Robinson in Harper Lee s To Kill a
Mockingbird
The purpose of this essay is to compare three very similar cases, the Scottsboro Trials, Brown v.
Mississippi, and the fictional trial of Tom Robinson in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird; and to
prove why the defendant of the third trial never had a chance. Each took place in the rural South in
the 1920 s and 30 s and involved the unfair conviction of young black males by all white juries
pressured by the threat of mob violence. Each lacked the evidence sufficient for conviction, most
especially for the death penalty. Last, heroes emerged from each trial and made small but solid
steps towards equal justice for all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Price had conveniently washed her step ins and though six men allegedly raped her, not a one got
any semen on her coat. The Supreme Court granted the Scottsboro boys new trials on the grounds
that they did not receive adequate legal counsel. In this second round of trials, presided by Judge
James E. Horton, Ruby Bates denied that she or Victoria Price had ever been raped (To Kill a
Mockingbird: Then and Now).
The hero in this case was Judge Horton. Despite public opinion in the region, Horton overturned the
conviction of the jury, an unprecedented act. He wrote a thoughtful essay of the improbability of
the crime and examined what evidence should have resulted from it. Very little of this expected
evidence actually appeared and thus Judge Horton declared:
It is therefore ordered and adjudged by the Court that the motion be granted; that the verdict of the
jury in this case and the judgment of the Court sentencing this defendant to death be, and the same
hereby is, set aside and that a new trial be and the same is hereby ordered. (To Kill a Mockingbird:
Then and Now).
Judge Horton had run unopposed in the previous two elections, but shortly thereafter, Judge Horton
lost the next election.

`` The Birthmark `` By Nathanial Hawthorne
Nathanial Hawthorne writes a compelling story about a recently married scientist whose wife has a
blemish on her cheek. The Birthmark written in 1843 is a critique of domesticity, feminine
sexuality, and perfectionism. Cindy Weinstein takes the stance that The Birthmark is a critique of
feminine sexuality. Weinstein suggests, A key reason, then, that Aylmer wants to erase the
birthmark is that it signifies a sexuality with which he is deeply uncomfortable (123). This
argument is seen throughout Hawthorne s story, but Weinstein s argument can be taken a step
further to deal with the root cause, control. Aylmer is disturbed with Georgiana s birthmark due to
the fact that it signifies her sexual desires that he is unable to control.
Aylmer realizes that Georgiana s birthmark is troubling soon after their marriageand intercourse
together. Not a single man in Georgiana s previous relationships has had a problem with her
birthmark, but now that she has had sexual intercourse, Aylmer cannot stop having thoughts about
her birthmark. Hawthorne writes, After his marriage, for he thought little or nothing of the matter
before, Aylmer discovered that this was the case with himself (1). After their intercourse together,
Aylmer unlocks her suppressed feminine sexuality. When he begins to realize she also has the
desires, he is uncomfortable because it defies the culture belief that women do not have these
perverse thoughts. As soon as Georgiana lost her purity, Aylmer

movie, and one of the first of all time. The Godfather has a many different uses of light settings

The lighting in The Godfather, is very dim and is often said to be compared with a Rembrant. The

The most perfect example of their family values is when Don comes home from the Hospital and
the family ahs a big dinner, and they do not talk business at the table. When the Family is look on
as a regular family as you get drawn in, you then see surprisingly and rudely awakened to the
killings of the movie.
The director of the movie(Frances Ford Copolla) has a very good use of montage, and long shots.
Capolla starts off the movie with an extrodonary shot of an undertaker saying this is America.
Which gives a glimpse of how haunting the film is going to be? A good use of long shots is
perfect when the camera pans around the long shot as Mikey takes on the responsibility of
getting revenge for his fathers shooting. Also a good example of Copolla s long shots is when
the film is about to end and there is a shot of Diane Keaton looking so innocent and really
knowing nothing of the family business. In the film, montage is used in the baptism scene. The
shots cut when all the highly religious questions are asked of Mike, and then the shots start cutting
back in forth from the killings of the head s of the other top five family s and the baptism,
portraying mike as a changing person(a god man to an evil one.)
The music of The Godfather, is very haunting and scary at times, but also takes on a folklore type
of theme. I think the music is typical for this type of film, but it does contribute a lot to the family
values

This shows Gordon Miller becoming heroic as he is standing up to the vandals who have been
tormenting him. This gives us the understanding that certain people can only take so much
stress and disruption in their lives before they come to the end of their tether and retaliate. The
last sentence in the story is an image of Miller sitting playing with a set of Roman Soldiers .
This shows that Gordon Miller is a lot more complex than Bold let us believe. He likes order and
stability in his life, he does not like change and disruptions. As he is playing with the Roman
Soldier set this represents the order that he likes in his life.
In conclusion revealing Gordon Millers personality slowly throughout the short story Bold uses a
number of techniques such as pathos, setting, imagery and word choice. Through these we feel
empathy towards Gordon Miller and understand why he proceeded taking the heroic actions that he
did. This helps the reader not to dislike Miller for his actions but feel happy for him that he finally
got justice on the vandals.

Review of movie Stand By Me Essay
Review of movie Stand By Me
Stand By Me is a movie based on a novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of four preteens, who
during a boring summer day, embark on a journey to find the body of a dead twelve year old, who
has been missing by news accounts, but known to them, to be lying in the woods near a river bank.
The story is told as an historical narrative about the lives and relationships of the four main
characters in this movie, Gordy, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. In this essay, I will discuss how
communication, and self concept, affects the characters, and their interactions.
Gordy La Chance, who is the narrator of this story, can best be described as an introvert. He is
living in the shadow of his recently deceased brother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He comes from what Gordy describes as a ?bad family?, and believes himself to be bad too. His self
fulfilling prophecy would be to turn out as bad as everyone in town believes that he will. Gordy
sees the good in him, and pushes him to be more than Chris perceives he is capable of being.
Chris is the group leader. The others in the group value his opinion, and he is the protector. He
sticks up for the rest of the boys, and they look up to him. One example of this is when Ace, an
older, bullying local, steals Gordy?s hat. He verbally attacks the older bully, on behalf of Gordy.
His presenting self is confident, independent, and tough. Inwardly, or his perceived self, is
incapable, and destined to become nothing, primarily caused by the locals, and his family
continually reminding him that he comes from a family of trouble, so he must trouble too.
Teddy DuChamp can best be described as an antagonist. His father abused him, and was
eventually put into an asylum, this leaving Teddy with a stigma of being the son of a ?looney?.
This brought about his self fulfilling prophecy of craziness. He has a problem with self control, to
the point where it could cause him serious harm. One example of this is when he begins arguing
with the keeper of a junkyard, and instead of backing down during the altercation, he continues to
fight, without realizing that he could be endangering himself. He spends

Why is society obsessed with teaching women what and whatnot to do? It could be the way that
society teaches women, telling them they are not valued as much as men. Men view women across

In this time period, men believed they were superior to women because women did not have
jobs. For example, in Dracula, when Jonathan Harker sleeps in a room that Dracula did not
assign him, he is trapped with three women in the parlor, and he believes he is going to die. At
least God s mercy is better than that of these monsters.... At its foot a man may sleep as a man
(Stoker 57). Perhaps, Jonathan believes that if the three women victimize him, it would make
him less of a man that he is. Another example is the mention of the New Women when Lucy and
Mina were going a walk: I believe we should have shocked the New Woman with our appetites
(96). Without worrying bout being prim and proper, they were hungry enough, they did not care
about the rules in the Victorian times. This started the rebellion of the New Woman . Stoker was
familiar with feminist movement, growing up around strong women. Though Stoker was hostile
towards women and the idea of the New Women , people confused him to be feminist because of
the two contrasting women in the story: the Victorian example [Mina], and the angel that turned
into a vampire. In the end, the women mentioned in the novel were either vampires, turned into a
vampire, or end up dead. Even if he did not like women in general, he creates a New Woman , Mina
Harker. In Carol A Senf s essay, Dracula: Stoker s response to the

In other words, some people refer to evil as sin and suffering; others think of it as a separation from
God while still more people personify it in the form of satan. My purpose here is not to discuss
what form evil may take in an individual s life even though it may come up periodically. The
central fact remains that evil, in one form or another, does exist and anyone not willing to
believe in this reality quite frankly lives in a different dimension. Either that, or they simply live
in a total state of denial! Keeping all this in mind, what I want to accomplish in this paper is to
first explore the idea that evil is a relative term that exists within the context of each situation.
Ah, yes! Even as I wrote that last sentence, I could see the wheels turning in your head. But not
to worry. I will clarify soon. From this point, I will seek the wisdom of people who have tried to
answer these tough questions proposed on the first page, come to some more conclusions
through personal interviews and then end on a more personal note, using the help of my life
experience as a Christian. This topic hits me hard at times. I often find myself in reflection,
trying to formulate an answer to the evil that I see, and yes, the evil that I do. This evil will
sometimes leave me feeling totally powerless and at its mercy. Yet I never give up hope for I

The Science Of The Earth Essay
Introduction
The science that is connected with planet earth encompasses geosciences or earth science among
others. Containing old histories, this is considered as a part of planetary science while it possesses
holistic and reductionist approaches in the science of the planet Earth. This discipline can cope with
lithosphere, atmosphere, biosphere or hydrosphere. Quantitative understanding has been developed
by the scientists to understand the ground systems with the tools by mathematics, physics,
chronology, biology, chemistry alike that help to know how the universe is evolved.
Deliberations
According to a news release from NASA, coronal mass ejections caused by geomagnetic storms
have been enhanced in strength; as from G1 to G5, they were rated G3 in 2012. The earth planet is
surrounded and by bubbles of magnetic fields while rapid changes in the earth magnetosphere were
witnessed due to activities that happened on sun that caused a geomagnetic storm. With earth s
magnetic fields, coronal mass ejections were mingled; as a result, the wind became mild in
intensity reported in the month of March in the corresponding year (Philips, 2009).
On the other hand, the geomagnetic storms have been intensified and enhanced in their frequency
as magnetic fields of coronal mass ejections indulges with that of the earth that causes change of
direction and leave more radiation and magnetic energy into the environment of the planet earth.

Essay on The Turing Test
One of the hottest topics that modern science has been focusing on for a long time is the field of
artificial intelligence, the study of intelligence in machines or, according to Minsky, the science
of making machines do things that would require intelligence if done by men .(qtd in Copeland
1). Artificial Intelligence has a lot of applications and is used in many areas. We often don t
notice it but AI is all around us. It is present in computer games, in the cruise control in our cars
and the servers that route our email. (BBC 1). Different goals have been set for the science of
Artificial Intelligence, but according to Whitby the most mentioned idea about the goal of AI is

In fact, its simplicity is one of the things that have made the Turing Test resist time and history.
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The Turing Test has had a rich history since its creation by Alan
Turing. But first of all, who was Alan Turing? As Whitby notes Alan Turing was a superb British
mathematician. During World War II Turing worked in secrecy for the British military to break the
German military codes together with some other scientists using some machines that had some
characteristics of the modern computers.(12) After the War, a machine was built in Manchester
from which all modern computers are descended .(12) In 1948, Alan Turing was writing programs
for this machine and was also writing the paper Computing machinery and intelligence , published
in 1950, from which the concept of the Turing Test was derived later on. (Whitby 13). An
important part of the test history are the occasions of computers being tested and whether or not
they passed the test. In the years following its creation and until our days, many computers have
taken the test. Turing made himself the prediction stated below: I believe that in about fifty years
time it will be possible to programme computers, with a storage capacity of about 109, to make
them play the imitation game so well that an average interrogator will not have more than 70 per
cent chance of making the right identification after five minutes of questioning.

The Albanian Culture During The Ottoman Rule In Albania
Culture is what connects everyone to their roots and is what plays a great part of everyone s
personality. Every culture is unique and special in its own way. With this cultural project, I had an
opportunity to discover a different culture other than mine. I experienced the Albanian culture.
Albania is a small country in Southeastern Europe. Also, Albanians are the Balkan people who
settled in Albania and they call themselves ShqiptarГ« . In addition to Albanian culture, there are the
religions that have a great impact to their life. During the Ottoman rule in Albania, many Albanians
converted to Islam. However, Albanian Christians were not forced to convert so they just remained
Christian. On November 28th, 1912, Albania declared independence and was recognized as a
country. After this cultural experience and events that took place I was enlightened on the great
Albanian culture.
In order to discover the Albanian culture, my good friend Albi allowed me to come into his home
for dinner. Including Albi there were 6 people who were there to experience the culture.

Great Expectations Social Class Analysis
Social status and money play a big role in our society today. This tends to affect how many are
treated. For example, the wealthy tend to get more recognition, due to their extreme amount of
money and the things they have. Whereas the lower class tends to get a bad reputation of being
known as uneducated, poor and common. This is well applied to many of the characters in the
book Great Expectations. In fact, social class and money determine how characters in Great
Expectations interact amongst each other. When some of these characters experience a class
that they are unfamiliar with, expecting great things, they are oblivious to how they treat their
peers. In the beginning of the book, we meet Pip and are introduced to his perspective of life.
Pip lives with his older sister, Mrs. Joe, and her husband, Joe Gargery. They could be described
as belonging to the lower end of the social class. ...Mrs. Joe Gargery, who married a blacksmith
(Dickens 1). Later on, as Pip evolves, he is hurt when he gets called common by Estella. This
changes Pip s perspective of himself and leads him to wanting to be known as uncommon. When
Pip later becomes wealthy, he changes into someone he is not. He begins to strongly mistreat
others, based on the contrast of social class between the different characters.
Biddy is one of the many characters influenced by social class. Have you ever considered that he
may be proud (Dickens 116). Biddy becomes angered at the result of Pip s sudden change

Roman Pantheon Research Paper
The Roman Pantheon is an architectural wonder built by the Roman s over 18 centuries ago that
has had enormous impact on architectural design and techniques still today. Built under the reign
of Emperor Hadrian 118 128A.D during the High Empire Period the Pantheon we know today was
built in the same location as two prior pantheon s that both fell to fire (Kleiner 210). Although the
exact artist(s) of that of the Pantheon are not particularly known credit goes to Emperor Hadrian

It amazes me how the Roman s created such a beautiful building in there time period without all
of the technological advances that we have today. In my research I came upon an article that
said some historians believe that the Pantheon represented a specific type of sundial called a
hemicyclium , not in a technical aspect to be used as a instrument to tell time but in order to
symbolize that of the sundial (Hannah, Giulio). The meanings and feelings portrayed within the
building and the engineering task they had to overcome simply amazes me. I can only imagine
the beauty in which it has been described back when it was first built and how proud the Roman
s must have been to call such a miraculous construction there own. Not only is the building itself
beautiful but how almost every aspect within it has meaning makes the name its given well
deserved. I wish that today we still put the same time, effort and meaning into the architecture
that is created in the present instead of just building what ever is the cheapest and fastest. To me
the Pantheon shows significance, you don t have to research it in order to see the hard work that
was put into it or the feelings it can convey by just looking at a picture. In fact that is why I

a conservative indicator, according to Sobel, M MBA in a nutshell , given that the assets

quickly. The formula that expresses this is:
Liquidity ratio = Cash + accounts receivable + marketable securities divided by Current liabilities
Placing the values from the balance sheet into the formula
Liquidity ratio = $10,972.18 divided by $4,073 = 2.7
An organization s quick ratio is supposed to be greater than 1.1. From the result above, we can

Using your brain is something we all do day in and day out. This is a normal way of thinking
about how we see the world. We tend to use what we see around us as reminders of what we
want, or need to do. When publishers go about publishing a new book or new product they try
and find someone who can use the information they are providing. Whether it is a true story or
something strictly made up. We as humans have tendencies to use what we read and hear to
promote some sort of desire we want. We can have many different ways of explaining what we see
and what we gain. One of the best examples is from a Derren Browns subliminal advertising . This
is an actual video that shows two well known advertisers from the from MBA firm being had by

the brain that it causes and its ability to be transmitted. First it was described in the United

Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) sometimes called Classical BSE, having been
reported first in 1986 in the United Kingdom. Prior to identification of vCJD, the widely known
human TSE, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD), had been thought to have only three forms of
existence, (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2012). The first form was
Iatrogenic CJD, caused by accidental transmission by contaminated surgical equipment or the
administration of human deprived pituitary growth hormones or from corneal or meningeal

familial CJD, which has been linked with gene mutation, though as well form still smaller

Intersectional Romance Fiction Essay
By the same token, the romance fiction genre pivots on the presentation of women s triumphs over
systemic inequality (Jagodzinski 9)В¬ that is, Caucasian women s triumphs, as the romance fiction
genre seldom extends that kind of concern to other marginalized groups (Jagodzinski 9). The
romance fiction genre s endeavor to debunk ideological justifications for women s subordination
offers little insight into the domination (Crenshaw 155) of women of color, and the messages that
correlate with the genre s narratives are overgeneralized at best (Crenshaw 155) as a consequence
of the narratives embedment in solitarily Caucasian experience. Disagreeing with this model of
romance fiction, Jagodzinski proposes that romance fiction authors who look beyond just
patriarchal oppression to consider other types of systemic oppression, like racial oppression
(Jagodzinski 9) create a new subcategory of romance fiction: intersectional romance fiction, as
various forms of identity directed oppression are considered in conjunction with one another
(Jagodzinski 9 10). The conflicts within intersectional romance fiction often demonstrate how the
maintenance of poweris invested in the oppression (Jagodzinski 150) of those who fail to meet the
dominant standards of what the average member of society should appear as. When an author

Effects Of The Purchase Of Louisiana
The purchase of Louisiana was both beneficial to President Thomas Jefferson as well as detrimental

the Americans had lost their right to store American merchandise in warehouses located in New

After battering about the price, the purchase of Louisiana was agreed to cost $15 million from the

even if it was less than four cents an acre. Smithsonianmag.com writes that The Boston Columbian

Examples Of Satire In The Butter Battle Book
Satire of The Butter Battle Book.
Dr. Seuss, an amazing writer who showed the world of satire and literature to all ages. Books
such as The Lorax, The Foot book and The Butter Battle Book are perfect examples of that.
Seuss, a man known for his creative vision and use of words, made these books a satire gold
mine! We already know about his rhymes but Seuss was also extremely good at using
exaggeration. Don t forget his amazing use of onomatopoeias or his profound use of repetition. I
could go on forever but the fact is Dr Seuss and his creative mind has an amazing talent for using
satire to make his books come to life. To make his books stick around for so long and to open the
minds of his reader to the world of satire and the amazing world of literature.
This creative talent is most clearly shown by the uses of exaggeration all throughout the book
The Butter Battle. Whether it s the fact that these two races are fighting over what side they
butter their bread. Or the fact that each side believes one is worse because of that fact. No
matter where you look in this book, there will always be a use of exaggeration! One being, So
you cant trust a Zook who spreads his bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has
kinks in his soul! (Seuss). This quote is a perfect example of exaggeration, it s very obvious that
no one would have kinks in their soul because of how they butter their bread. Or that every Zook
has to be watched! Another great example would be the line, I ll blow you up he yelled, into
pork and wee beans (Seuss). Now we all know that you cant blow someone up into pork and wee
beans! It s just physically impossible but that doesn t stop Dr. Seuss from using it and using it
effectively. To sum this all up, it s very easy to see that exaggeration is just one of the few pieces
of satire Dr. Seuss uses. But it is used extremely effective and makes the reader more interested and
gives them a few laughs in the process!
In addition to exaggeration, Seuss has an incredible knack for using repetition that makes the
reader more engaged. Makes the reader want to see what that next funky word will be, what goofy
sentence will follow. This simple piece of satire has immense power! With just a few

success. Werner von Siemens and Johann Georg Halske founded Siemens AG in 1847 in Munich,
Germany as a manufacturer of telegraphic systems. Over the next 150+ years, the company grew
rapidly expanding operations in information and communication, automation and control, power,
transportation, medical, and lighting while expanding their global network in over 190 countries.
When Siemens made their listing on the New York Stock Exchange in 2001, they were... Show

Interpreting laws within the context of cultural sensitivity is a major challenge and some may view
as ambiguous. Also, the development of a new department may be too costly. The final alternative
proposes a sound infrastructure for accountability systems and the day to day operations. No doubt,
a systematic monitoring of performance is necessary and clear communication across all company
levels is required. This alternative leaves little to the imagination and provides a level of
transparency that was previously absent. Conversely, some would argue that this alternative is
costly and too data driven to leverage the expertise of employees. Without question, the
interrelatedness of three alternatives is apparent and the common denominator is the hands on
approach of an ethical leader to affect real change. Recommendations: To make a turnaround,
Siemans requires an executive makeover (Alternative 1) and corporate remodel (Alternative 3).
Without question, the new company leader must be trustworthy and fair as he or she will be the
yard stick by which all others are measured. Consequently, measurement of performance through a
new accountability system will be the key for tracking progress. If such leadership and
accountability had been in place, these problems could have been easily avoided. Implementation
Plan: First and foremost, it is the responsibility of the external stakeholders to find the right

Frequent Flyer Programs
Frequent flyer programs for airlines are often considered effective marketing tools. Strategic
information can increase the number of frequent fliers through various ways. Airline companies
have the opportunity to gather information through various techniques such as consumer surveys to
understand what costumers like and dislike with not only the respective company but any other
competitors as well. Airlinecompanies can identify incentives to offer such as free baggage, free
flights, early boarding or even partnerships with other non airline companies to retain loyalty
customers. For instance, I now use my JetBlue credit card more than my American Airlines card to
gain reward points because they also have partnerships with Hilton hotels and

The Ethical Requirements Protecting Confidential Information
The ethical requirements protect confidential information and only disclose such information as
mandated by law or where committed by law for a valid purpose (APA, 2005). In this particular
case, the social worker chose not to break confidentiality without her clients consent because there
was not a valid purpose in doing so according to her code of ethicsin her profession. Had she
complied with the court order, she would have gone against her professions ethical code and could
have faced punishment and possible loss of licensing. The justice system could not force the social
worker to testify because there was no imminent danger involved. When law and ethical standard
separate, confidentialitysituations become very complex. On one hand, a person could not fault a
social worker therapist for exposing confidential communication if ordered by the court. On the
other hand, a person could reasonably question the correctness of violating the law if believed
that in doing so they are behaving ethically. In the example of this case, the social worker was
required by law to disclose confidential information regarding a client during the course of their
social worker relationship. The social worker claimed that the law and ethical practices
conflicted, making it appear that the ethical practices in question seem illegal. The social worker
choose civil disobedience at her own risk, following the code of ethics provided by her practice,
and could have faced legal

  • 2. handmaids tale Essay The central social hierarchy within the novel is the gender hierarchy, placing men in a position of extreme power. This is evident in every aspect of the book, as the entire Gilead society is male dominated. The Commander is at the top of the hierarchy and is involved with designing and establishing the current society taking controlof a nation of women, and exploiting their power by controlling what is taught, what they can teach themselves and the words that they can use. Soon all of the women will become brainwashed, simply because it is made nearly impossible to defy the rules The Eye is the next highest up and are used as spies to keep the society the way it is and make sure no one consorts against it. Angel s are next because they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unwoman are last because no one wants them and they are outcasts. In the handmaid s tale the government has given the lead character and presumably all the other character a pill that makes them forget their past. In the case of the main character its effectiveness was not 100 percent and she remembers scraps of her previous life n her dreams. In her dreams she remember s how they took her daughter away and how she loves her husband. Offred has no clue to his whereabouts or even if he s alive. The agents of control in offreds life start with the aunts in training the handmaid s. the role is to mold the handmaid s into their society, to make them presume that everything is the norm and not to desire more. Secondly is the eye. They are the thought in the backs of peoples minds that makes them follow the rules. No one knows quite who they are and can never be sure who to trust. This is the perfect way to control people without a constant presence. I think Gilead is thought of as a theocracy it is a government in which there is no separation between state and religion. Its official vocabulary incorporates religious terminology and references to the bible. • 3. Plus Size Women In my opinion, we need not discuss a reconciliation of sorts regarding the greater degree of acceptance of plus size women with the parallel emphasis our society continues to place on thinness because I think that comparison would be based upon approval versus acceptance. My reasoning is this, images where media now portrays plus size women in a positive light and encourages society to accept plus size as beautiful, does not encourage/approve of the health problems associated with obesity. We can find the beauty in all people. Size does not determine whether or not someone is a loving, caring, kind, or beautiful person; therefore, the mindset that these images should not be accepted due to health problems is foolish to me. Let us look... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, when people feel accepted, they feel better about themselves. Accepting a person because they are plus size does not necessarily encourage them to live an unhealthy lifestyle. In fact, these women may feel more confident and actually take the initiative to get active, and not because they are chasing the need to feel accepted, but because they are less self conscious and able to walk out in public without feeling inferior due to lowered self esteem. As we know, self esteem influences consumer behavior (Solomon, 2017). Social media is providing a platform for plus size women to have a voice. There are so many plus size models and bloggers that have created pages strictly built to encourage and empower women who may feel like they do not fit society s mode. Social media has brought about a self acceptance to the masses. It allows consumers to voice their stance, which often times expresses the way many others feel, and set a tone to make changes. For example, a blogger Jes Baker, also known as Militant Baker, posted a letter to Abercrombie Fitch regarding his sizeism. (Katz, 2015). Her voice was heard throughout social media. Hence, social media is impacting beauty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Is The Differences Between The Monarchy, Aristocracy,... In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and democracy in Ancient Greece. Monarchy. There are two types of monarchy one is a constitutional monarchy and the other is absolute monarchy. Absolute monarchs are really all powerful, they are able to pass laws and veto any law passed or suggested by politicians, a constitutional monarch has less power and is really only a figurehead as a head of state. In Ancient Greece there were not really a lot of monarchies, there was of course Sparta with its unique two King system. The two Kings come from the direct descendants of the founders of Sparta, they weren t really absolute monarchs because they had the ephors stopping them from taking too many decisions that could be harmful to the state (Cartwright, 2013). There were other monarchies in the times of Ancient Greece, most notably Macedonia, that went on to conquer Greece in 336 BCE (Brand, n.d. ,p36). Aristocracy. This was the rule of a few elite people. They were always the richest people and what we would call today the Lords or Ladies. They were the highest of the upper classes. This would have given them a good chance of perks and probably a good way of becoming wealthier (Mahabal, Joshi, 2017). Tyranny. A tyranny could be described as a government that would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Ancient Greece there were two specГ¬fic times when Athens was an Oligarchy. In 411 BCE the oligarchy of 400 took power by overthrowing the assembly, it seems they were a little tyrannical in the way they acted, and were overthrown by the oligarchy of 5000, who were more moderate (Cartwright, 2013). In 404 BCE Athens was defeated in Sicily and then there was yet another power change to the oligarchy of the 30 tyrants, this was a bad time for Athens as these people were really cruel summarily executing people (Cartwright, ... • 5. How Does Mark Twain Use Satire In Advice To Youth Mark Twain was one of the most popular writers in the victorian era. He wrote many works that are still popular today. But, Mark Twain s Advice to Youth involves humor and is most known for its satire. In the work Mark twain critiques society and the behavior of people relevant to today s society by talking about how parents think they know more than kids. He also gives advice to youth which is still relevant today. He gives advice on fighting, violence and also about lying and how to lie. Mark Twain does critique society and the behavior of people relevant to today s society. In his work Advice to Youth Twain critiques parents about how they think they know more than their kids. In today s society almost every single parent say to their kid I m your parent and I know more than you. Therefore I know what s best for you . Twain also critiques society by making fun of people who say getting up early is best. He uses satire to make fun of stereotypes and old wise sayings about people getting up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his work, Twain talks about how lying is a great art and it should be practiced. He states that A feeble, stupid lie will not live for two years... It is indestructible . In today s youth a lie will be known forever if it is a terrible lie but if you practice and are an expert at lying no one will know and everything will be fine. Also, Mark Twain states to never handle a firearm carelessly, and that suffering and sorrow will come from it. He says that the youth is careless and can cause great harm, which is true, so they need to be careful and taught what the right thing to do is. In addition to those he gives advice on reading. Twain tells the youth to be careful in your selection of what you read. Which is still a good idea today because some book aren t meant to be read by the youth. • 6. Cbg In Cannabis What is Cannabigerol or CBG in Cannabis? Cannabigerol or CBG for short, is most recognized as a clear headed high that is very therapeutic. Much like CBD, cannabigerol is not a psychoactive cannabinoid. CBG was first discovered by researchers in 1964 as a component of hash. Interestingly, CBG is now known as a precursor in a marijuana plants process to create both THC and CBD. This is a vital cannabinoid considering the cannabis plant requires it to combine with other enzymes to make the compounds that get us stoned or pain free. Without CBG we would never have THC. • 7. Who are the Working Poor In class, we ve talked a great deal about all of the aspects that underline the concept of poverty. From reading about it in our book, researching online, and grabbing a personal text, I was highly intrigued with the components that make up the working poor, it s actual definition, and so much more. Before getting into the statistics, a simple definition of the working poor is that it is a group of people who spend about twenty seven weeks or more in a year either working or looking for work, but their incomes fall below the level of poverty(USDAVIS, 2013). With this definition, it is understandable as well as difficult to take in because there are a lot of people that face this, and there are others that are even less fortunate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the family spending patterns in 1955, it is clear that it is no longer valid today. Tax time in poor neighborhoods is not April; it s January. The checks that come from Washington include not only a refund of taxes withheld, but also an additional payment, the Earned Income Tax Credit; that is designed to subsidize low wage working families (Shipler, 2004). It is common sense that you would not receive this credit unless you file, but some do not file and avoid the IRS; it has been proved that you come up ahead when you do file because you keep everything you ve earned plus you receive a credit. As much as it is talked about, many workers prefer to earn under the table and keep their finances unrecorded due to shame, sorrow, not educated on the subject, etc. High interest may also be the most universal trap for low wage workers. From research, poor people and investment bankers seem to have one thing in common: they both spend considerable amounts of energy thinking about money. (Shipler, 2004). With that, they have to juggle, predict, and plan, and every decision involves a lengthy step by step process. From research and just even walking down the streets of Chicago for example, it seems to be that there is the stigma that the poor are supposed to sacrifice, suffer, and certainly ... Each took place in the rural South in the 1920 s and 30 s and involved the unfair conviction of young black males by all white juries pressured by the threat of mob violence. Despite public opinion in the region, Horton overturned the conviction of the jury, an unprecedented act. The director of the movie(Frances Ford Copolla) has a very good use of montage, and long shots. Capolla starts off the movie with an extrodonary shot of an undertaker saying this is America. A good use of long shots is perfect when the camera pans around the long shot as Mikey takes on the responsibility of getting revenge for his fathers shooting. Also a good example of Copolla s long shots is when the film is about to end and there is a shot of Diane Keaton looking so innocent and really knowing nothing of the family business. It amazes me how the Roman s created such a beautiful building in there time period without all of the technological advances that we have today. In my research I came upon an article that said some historians believe that the Pantheon represented a specific type of sundial called a hemicyclium , not in a technical aspect to be used as a instrument to tell time but in order to symbolize that of the sundial (Hannah, Giulio). The meanings and feelings portrayed within the building and the engineering task they had to overcome simply amazes me. I can only imagine the beauty in which it has been described back when it was first built and how proud the Roman s must have been to call such a miraculous construction there own. Not only is the building itself beautiful but how almost every aspect within it has meaning makes the name its given well deserved. I wish that today we still put the same time, effort and meaning into the architecture that is created in the present instead of just building what ever is the cheapest and fastest. To me the Pantheon shows significance, you don t have to research it in order to see the hard work that was put into it or the feelings it can convey by just looking at a picture. In fact that is why I choose it, not even knowing all of the spectacular things I ve come to find out but by simply looking at a Photograph. One day I hope to actually see ... • 34. Intersectional Romance Fiction Essay By the same token, the romance fiction genre pivots on the presentation of women s triumphs over systemic inequality (Jagodzinski 9)В¬ that is, Caucasian women s triumphs, as the romance fiction genre seldom extends that kind of concern to other marginalized groups (Jagodzinski 9). The romance fiction genre s endeavor to debunk ideological justifications for women s subordination offers little insight into the domination (Crenshaw 155) of women of color, and the messages that correlate with the genre s narratives are overgeneralized at best (Crenshaw 155) as a consequence of the narratives embedment in solitarily Caucasian experience. Disagreeing with this model of romance fiction, Jagodzinski proposes that romance fiction authors who look beyond just patriarchal oppression to consider other types of systemic oppression, like racial oppression (Jagodzinski 9) create a new subcategory of romance fiction: intersectional romance fiction, as various forms of identity directed oppression are considered in conjunction with one another (Jagodzinski 9 10). The conflicts within intersectional romance fiction often demonstrate how the maintenance of poweris invested in the oppression (Jagodzinski 150) of those who fail to meet the dominant standards of what the average member of society should appear as. Books such as The Lorax, The Foot book and The Butter Battle Book are perfect examples of that. Seuss, a man known for his creative vision and use of words, made these books a satire gold mine! I could go on forever but the fact is Dr Seuss and his creative mind has an amazing talent for using satire to make his books come to life. To make his books stick around for so long and to open the minds of his reader to the world of satire and the amazing world of literature. This creative talent is most clearly shown by the uses of exaggeration all throughout the book The Butter Battle. Whether it s the fact that these two races are fighting over what side they butter their bread. Or the fact that each side believes one is worse because of that fact. No matter where you look in this book, there will always be a use of exaggeration! One being, So you cant trust a Zook who spreads his bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has kinks in his soul! (Seuss). This quote is a perfect example of exaggeration, it s very obvious that no one would have kinks in their soul because of how they butter their bread. Or that every Zook has to be watched! Another great example would be the line, I ll blow you up he yelled, into pork and wee beans (Seuss). Now we all know that you cant blow someone up into pork and wee beans! It s just physically impossible but that doesn t stop Dr. Seuss from using it and using it effectively. To sum this all up, it s very easy to see that exaggeration is just one of the few pieces of satire Dr. Seuss uses. But it is used extremely effective and makes the reader more interested and gives them a few laughs in the process! The Ethical Requirements Protecting Confidential Information The ethical requirements protect confidential information and only disclose such information as mandated by law or where committed by law for a valid purpose (APA, 2005). In this particular case, the social worker chose not to break confidentiality without her clients consent because there was not a valid purpose in doing so according to her code of ethicsin her profession. Had she complied with the court order, she would have gone against her professions ethical code and could have faced punishment and possible loss of licensing. The justice system could not force the social worker to testify because there was no imminent danger involved. When law and ethical standard separate, confidentialitysituations become very complex. On one hand, a person could not fault a social worker therapist for exposing confidential communication if ordered by the court. On the other hand, a person could reasonably question the correctness of violating the law if believed that in doing so they are behaving ethically.
