Another way he uses themes is to show how people are fearful of the wilderness. One of the ways it is

how good people can be corrupted and turned to evilness. The things that happen at night in Salem are

The boxes described below have the same volume, but different dimensions and surface area. Use this
data as the basis for a discussion of beneficial cell shapes.
Essay Submission
When the volume is too large relative to the surface area of the cell, diffusion cannot occur at
sufficiently high rates to ensure this. Therefore cells size is wanted to be relatively small. Box A s
surface area to volume ratio is the smallest and therefore will be very sufficient for diffusion to occur
at a high rate. Box B s surface area to volume ratio is in between Box A and Box C and so therefore
will not be very sufficient but diffusion can still occur at a medium ... Show more content on

Each bag was placed in a separate beaker and covered with distilled water.
The concentration of NaCl in the water outside of each bag was measured at 40 second intervals. The
graph below shows the results from the 5% bag.
Describe how you would expect the results of the other three bags to compare to that of the 5% bag
and explain your predictions.
Essay Submission
I expect the 10% NaCl will, due to the high concentration gradients, decrease in concentration. While
the 0% NaCl and 1% NaCl will increase in concentration. This is because the change in the solutes
will change the distance of the function through the solution. Therefore, the more concentration the
more distance in the function and the less concentration the less distance.
Essay Feedback
Solute concentrations affect the rate of diffusion, so I expect the 1% solution to diffuse slower and the
10% solution to diffuse faster. The 10% solution would be expected to diffuse at a greater rate, maybe
twice that that of the 5% solution, so the plotted line will be significantly above the 5% line. The 1%
solution will have a line plotted at significantly lower values than that of the 5% solution. The 0%
solution will remain at a value of zero, a flat horizontal line, as no diffusion is expected to occur.

Rhetorical Devices In American Pie

Essay 3
The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a dominate rock and roll hit in 1971. McLean
illustrates famous rock star artist and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in 1962 by
using rhetorical strategies. The different potential interpretations of this song made it one of the most
controversial songs from the 1970 s. McLean was hitting home with many emotional resonances
defining moments in the recent American experiences. American Pie starts out addressing McLean
love for music in the 50 s. During the 50 s, music was a tool for getting people off their feet and on to
the dance floors. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people dance, and maybe
they d be happy for a while (McLean). This verse symbolizes why he loves to create and perform for
his fans. McLean then goes on to mention his mentor Buddy Holly. But February made me shiver.
With every paper, I d deliver. Shocking news on the doorstep, I couldn t take one more step. I can t
remember if I cried. When I read about his widowed bride. But something touched me deep inside.
The day the music died (McLean). Buddy Holly died on February 3, 1959, in a plane crash. There are
two theories on why the song was called American Pie. It was rumored, American Pie was the name of
the plane that took Buddy Holly life. Also, someone refers it to a symbol of the beauty queen Miss
America (Morgan). Mclean remembered the paper boy delivering the morning paper and there on the
front page, was the story of the death of Buddy Holly. At the time Holly s wife was pregnant and soon
had a miscarriage afterward. McLean, he says he can t remember if he cried in the moment or not. All
this was in the first few verses in American Pie. McLean incorporated these lines of imagery to help
the listener picture his past emotional experiences. I believe McLean wanted to paint a picture for his
audience could relate to. During these times it was tough for McLean. Not only did Buddy Holly die
but also rock star legends Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper. For McLean music died for him and the
rest of the world.
American Pie not only pays tribute to three talented musicians but also

The Pros And Cons Of Modern Monetary Theory
Modern monetary theory (MMT) Modern monetary theory explains exclusively how the government,
central bank and the commercial banking sector interacts, with some economists arguing that
understanding of reserve accounting is critical to understanding monetary policy options. This theory
was developed by a group of economist including Randal Wray (2009) and Bill Mitchell. All of the
commercial banks will also have an account with the central bank. This permits the banks to manage
their reserves that is, the amount of available short term money that a particular bank holds. So when
the government spends, treasury will debit its cash operating account at the central bank, and deposit
this money into private bank accounts (and hence into the commercial ... Show more content on

In most countries, commercial banks reserve accounts with the central bank must have a positive
balance at the end of every day; in some countries, the amount is specifically set as a proportion of the
liabilities a bank have that is on its customers. This is known as a reserve requirement. At the end of
every day, a commercial bank will have to examine the status of their reserve accounts. Those that are
in deficit have the option of borrowing the required funds from the central bank, where they may be
charged a lending rate which is also referred to as the discount rates on the amount they borrow. In a
balanced system, where there are just enough total reserves for all the banks to meet requirements, the
short term interbank lending rate will be in between the support rate and the discount rate. Both the
Treasury and the central bank are involved in these reserve management operations to maintain
interest rate stability (Palley, 2012). This applies to the relationship between the Central Bank of
Kenya and its regulatory requirement to maintain a capping that is below 14%. CBK finances
commercial banks at much lower rate on their borrowing so that the banks can fix their interest
charges on borrowed money at certain percentage that must not exceed the limit set by the

derived at this time in life, and quality of relationships. According to Pope, N. D., Lee, J. (2015) the
genogram and ecomap may be defined as a visual tool for exploring a client s social relationships
across time. Typically, these are familial relationships. In general, the genogram is useful in gathering
information, understanding relationship dynamics and behavioral patterns, promoting the client s self
understanding, conducting assessments, and guiding the practitioner to interventions (Pope, N. D.,
Lee, J.,2015). Social workers use genograms to gather information like values and ethics. Genograms
and Ecomaps are great assessment tools to reduce resistance as family members can see connections,

Ethics in Corporate Communicatons Essay
Code of Ethics Assignment 2

Paul Lindsley, M.A., ABC
The word ethics has many definitions depending on who you are speaking with and if it is business
related. One person may tell you that ethics has to do with what is right and wrong. Another may say it
has to do with that law of the land. In fact there are many interpretations and definitions for ethics. In
Corporate Communications there is a totally different set of code of ethics. The standards for
professional communicators are similar to each other and they also have their differences in relation to
their actual profession. I am going to compare and contrast the different codes of the major ... Show

Animal experimentation is a big part of medical progress. Opponents of animal testing point out the
amount of animals used and the different types of animals used but if you look at it, it s all for a good
reason. Animal experimenters don t do this just to do it. It s for a purpose. There are thousands upon
thousands of medical situations that couldn t have been done without animal experimenting. Animal
suffering is pointed out but for the most part animals go without feeling any pain. Animal

The scientists then did numerous experiments in the laboratory to figure out that a retrovirus, HIV,
was the cause of AIDS. They then inoculated different species, including rabbits and chimpanzees, to
see what would be the outcome. Of the nonhuman primates only chimpanzees and gibbon apes could
be infected with HIV in such a way that the virus could reisolated from the inoculated animals and that
antibodies were produced against HIV proteins (Garattini and Van Bekkum, 1990 p 153). The chimps
were then observed for 4 6 years and nothing seemed to be wrong therefore it seemed warranted to
state that chimpanzees are relatively resistant to the pathogenic action of HIV (Garattini and Van
Bekkum, 1990 p 154). Although animal experiments have not contributed to the discovery of HIV nor
to the solution of the AIDS problem, there is a great need for animal models for some burning
questions in AIDS research (Garattini and Van Bekkum, 1990 p 154). Some of these questions being

The Transportation Industry Does Not Have A Great Impact...
Transportation is an important sector that drives economic activities within and outside the state.
Although transportation as a sector does not bring in significant revenues to the economy of Arizona,
it does assist the smooth operation of other industries such as manufacturing, tourism, agriculture and
mining. Without roads, rail, and airports, it would be difficult to move goods and services from one
part of Arizona to another. Arizona s transportation industry does not have a great impact on its
economy because the state is largely used as a transit hub. More than half of the freight that comes
into Arizona originated from outside, rests for some few days and moved to their destinations in other
states. This means that the Arizona state government can only gain relatively small revenues from the
freight may be in the form of storage charges, repackaging, and accommodation for truck drivers. The
remaining 50% of freight is intra state implying that no money is brought in from outside Arizona.
Transportation sector acts as a vital factor in attracting investors because modern businesses critically
examine the transport infrastructure before deciding whether to relocate or not. For instance,
manufacturing companies depend on well established road and rail network to move large volumes of
bulk freight. Some also rely on the trucking to move containerized freight on highways with low
congestion levels.

The Pros And Cons Of HR Programs
1. Do such programs promote the use of alcohol or illicit drugs, or just limit the harm forced upon
society through the abuse of these chemicals? Depending on a person s point of view and moral values
there exists an argument for both sides of HR programs. On one hand, proponents against HR
programs may state that by promoting the means the ends will ultimately be met. Allowing such
programs to exist could be viewed as advocating for the very thing they are attempting to eliminate
from society. And they may very well be correct with their assumption: Perhaps abstinence is the best
policy. On the other hand, while proponents for HR programs seem to have conceded defeat against
some of the perils of society and accept the fact that substance use and abuse, as well as other
demoralizing acts are inevitable, this does not mean they have given up hope of someday eliminating
the problems altogether . The choice for HR programs may appear to be a rationalization of sorts;

eradicating it from their lives, or if HIV contractions can be minimized by the employing of a needle

then I would have to say that this sounds like not just change, but a change for the better. Turning a

During Partition of India, it is now estimated that more than 75,000 women were kidnapped and
raped. As there was total pandemonium at that time, there were no genuine records which can be used
to verify these facts and figures. There was an iota of doubt that the number was larger than what was
declared. Immediately the state was made alert of the problem of lost women by means of the reports
filed by their respective families. The state constituted search committees consisting of social workers,
mostly police and women, whose task was to go into each other s countries to recover the kidnapped

Positive And Negative Effects Of The Honey Bee On The...
The european honey bee (Apis mellifera), also known as the western honey bee, are naturally
occurring in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Due to the species invasive nature, they now occupy
every continent on Earth except Antarctica. The european honey bee was domesticated and introduced
to North America with the purpose of human assistance. With the species wide cultivation, the
european honey bee rapidly became the most important pollinator for agriculture globally. Positive
effects of the western honey bee on the environment include pollination to increase crop yield and
quality. For example, in regions such as North America and Australia with no native honey bees, the
effect of pollination on the native flowers and other pollinators can be drastic causing bountiful

Where two bones meet or link, it is called a joint or an articulation. Joints can be classified according
to their structure and by the types of movement they allow. The body has more than 300 different

In the body there are three types of joints...
Moveable/Synovial joints Moveable joints allow for maximum movement. Moveable or synovial
joints are normally found in the limbs, as we use these parts more than anything. Ligaments help to
provide the stability of the bones, also the muscles contract giving movement. Examples of synovial

Analysis Of The Film Gladiators
The film Gladiators was about the reign or Marcus Aurelius coming to an end. When Marcus chooses
Maximus, an army general and a powerful man with good morals, over his own son Commodus, to be
heir to the throne of the Roman Empire, Commodus is enraged and sentences Maximus and his family
to death. Maximus escapes his death sentence but is unable to save his family. The loss of his family
causes his willpower to disappear which allows him to be captured and put into the games of the
Gladiators until death. The only thing keeping him fighting is that he has a chance to rise to the top
and take revenge on the man who destroyed everything he loved, the new emperor Commodus.
In my opinion, I would say the protagonist of this film was Maximus by far. Maximus was an army
general with good morals, a strong man who cared for others, a family man who would do anything
for the ones he loved, but most of all, he had courage. He wasn t afraid to do what needed to be done
when it was necessary. In the film, Maximus said something along the lines of I am required to kill
when it is necessary, not for enjoyment. His internal compass spins correctly, unlike the antagonists. I
would deem Commodus the antagonist of this film. First, he kills Marcus Aurelius, the most loved
ruler of Roam and a wonderful man, once he finds out that he isn t the chosen heir to the Roman
Empire. Second, he sentences Maximus and his entire to family to death in a brutal, inhumane way.

Developing A Theory Of Information Science Research
Developing a Theory in Information Science Research: A Review of Experts Advice
Abstract
Despite the growing number of theories within the field of information science, it still remains a
difficult task for some emerging scholars in the field to clearly articulate the development of new
theories from research studies. This paper reviewed and collated the different views of scholars on
what a theory is and how a good theory can be developed. It explains the concept of a theory and the
different components that make up a theory. The paper discusses the different processes of theory
development by emphasizing what theory is and what theory is not. This review found that scholars
differ in their definition of a theory, which led to using terms such as model, paradigm, framework and
theory interchangeably. It found the lack of theoretical construct in a study to be one of the factors
why articles are rejected for publication. It pointed that producing a paper that contributes to theory
rests on the ability of scholars to develop original and new ideas that bring something insightful into
scholarship, which can be applied to bring about fresh thinking. This paper may be of benefit to
researchers, especially younger academics who are the future of scholarship in the field of information
science and other disciplines.
Introduction
Studies with strong theoretical perspectives are often regarded as adding value to any field of learning.
It is therefore essential for scholars

your words wisely. In Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, conspirators slay Julius Caesar,
resulting in anarchy in Rome. Some agree with the death, while others oppose the sudden and violent
death of Caesar. Unlike Antony, Brutus uses emotion rather than fact to sway the Roman people that
Caesars death is justified. Although Brutus puts rules in place so he can not talk disrespectfully of the
conspiracy, Antony, Caesar s closest friend, uses his slyness and manipulation in his funeral speech to
persuade the Romans. Although both characters use analogies, parallelism, loaded words and
hyperboles, their speeches convey very different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By making the Romans think about this topic, Brutus gains support and the audience feels like the
death of Caesar is justified. After Brutus finishes his speech, Antony speaks about his opinion on the
issue; unlike Brutus, Antony acts slyly and communicates a very manipulative tone to persuade the
Romans to rebel. Because of Antony s use of parallelism, he creates vivid reasoning for his speech. He
states, I come here to bury Caesar, not to praise him (III.ii.44). By using this device, he shows the
people of Rome that he isn t praising Caesar, he is putting the leader to rest. This particular line creates
a very manipulative tone, because his speech is all about what great this Caesar has done and how he
wants to rebel against the conspirators. Further more, Antony uses a lot of irony to slyly get his point
across. One example that he uses throughout the speech is Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, and
Brutus is a honorable man (III.ii.44). Because of the repitition of this ironic statement, the meaning of
it changes and intensifies. At first, his tone was sincere, but as the speech progresses, you can see his
sarcastic tone increases. Antony does this because he has to use this device to surpass the regulations
of Brutus, as well as make the romans listen. Lastly, he uses personification to give life and further
meaning to a word. Early in the speech, Antony says, The evil

A Serious Drought In California
California is in a very serious drought. It has changed the landscape, growth patterns, and lives of
many animals and humans. We no longer live in a prosperous and fertile state with plenty of
resources. The landscape has changed because the dry dirt receives no nutrients and the scorching sun
does not help. It ruins the terrain and normal levels the ecosystem started out with. Without the crucial
source and the necessity of water, nothing is fruitful and normal growth patterns of crops and wildlife
are being disrupted. Animals are dying and going out of their normal habitats in search of food and
water. Keep in mind, without sufficient water, crops and fertile dirt can not go very far. This will not
only affect animals but us, humans as well.

Cultures And Stereotypes In The Good Daughter By Caroline...
Kids with immigrant parents have to live in between different cultures, backgrounds, expectations,

Her sense of identity was falling apart when she wasn t able to pronounce her last name and her
parents never corrected her. Caroline was living in paradoxes because her parents didn t want her

The Two Most Common Forms Of Phosphorus
The next macronutrient is phosphorus. Two most common forms of phosphorus are white phosphorus,
made up of phosphorus atoms and arranged like a tetrahedron, and red phosphorus which is a non
crystalline but solid form of the element. Another form is black phosphorus, where it comes from the
arrangement of the atoms in the form of a ring structure and looks similarly like the graphite

The Importance of Confidence Essay
The Importance of Confidence Most of life s situations are learning experiences. People can learn
what activities are right or wrong for them by experiences these emotions in different situations. These
learning experiences can take place at home, school, the workplace, or anywhere else. The three major
experiences that have given me confidence in my ability to learn have all taken place at Penn State
University. One experience that, in the end, gave me confidence was my first semester of lessons with
the Penn State School of Music clarinet professor. The Professor was not a personable man. He was
very quick to criticize every mistake I was making and was very blunt with his comments. I felt like a
failure. I was very sensitive, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After overcoming the fear of the professor, I learned that I can do anything. Another interesting
experience that helped me gain confidence was my speech communications class with my professor,
Mrs. Larson. I knew I didn t have any trouble with talking to a group of people. I love to tell jokes and
stories to many people at one time, but I was nervous and somewhat embarrassed about preparing
some boring speech and making everyone else suffer by listening to it. Mrs. Larson explained that we
all have problems with this and that it can be overcome. I remember something simple she said that
stuck in my mind: The only way to get over the fear of something is to just do it. She was right. As I
had to go up to give the speech, her words constantly kept running through my mind. After the speech,
I realized that we were all in the same boat suffering from the same seasickness nervousness, We all
had to give speeches. No one was out to criticize anyone else and we all ended up supporting each
other! I learned that I could make a boring speech interesting if I have fun with it and feel comfortable
as the speaker of the moment. Becoming a member of the Penn State Blue Band was the ultimate
experience that gave me total confidence. The Blue Band has been rated as the #1 college or university
marching band in the country; it has a very superior reputation. I had wanted to be a member of this

The Cost Of Making All Public Higher Education
Free Public Higher Education
To determine the cost of making all public higher education free in America, we first need to look at
how much we are currently spending. In 2008 9, there were 6.4 million full time equivalent
undergraduate students enrolled in public universities and 4.3 million enrolled in community
colleges.1 The following year, the average cost of tuition, room, and board for undergraduates at
public four year institutions was $14,870; at two year public colleges, it was $7,629.2 If we multiply
the number of students in each segment of public higher education by the average total cost, we
discover that the cost of making all public universities free would have been $95 billion in 2009 10,
with an annual cost of $33 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than directly funding public higher education institutions, state and federal governments have
often relied on tax deductions and credits to support individual students. The tax code has been used to
fund higher education because it is easier for Congress to pass a tax break than it is to get funding for
a particular program, but what this system has achieved is a tremendous subsidy for upper middle
class and wealthy families, while lower income students are forced to take out huge loans to pay for
their education. According to a recent study: From 1999 to 2009, the govern
ment spent $70 billion on
tax breaks aimed at subsidizing higher educa
tion for families . . . about 13 percent, or $9.4 billion, of
that total went to families making more than $100,000 a year. At the same time, only 11 per
cent went
to the neediest families, those making less than $25,000. Fami
lies in the middle those making between
$25,000 and $99,999 received the lion s share of the aid, taking in slightly more than three quarters of
the benefits. 5
Later the report indicates that more of the funding now goes to the wealthiest Americans: Nearly 83
percent of the higher education tax benefits distributed from 1999 to 2001 went to families earning
less than $75,000 per year. No benefits went to those earning more than

Consumerisms In Recession
The recession that will be focused on is the most recent 2007 2009 recession. This recession cost the
US labor market 8.4 million jobs. Job loss is one of the hardest things to recover from after a
recession. Stocks go up, consumers continue with their purchases as some of them release times are
getting better. However the economy is a rollercoaster, it goes from being at the top of the track with
stocks high, and jobs growing each day to slowly descending to a crash, or in the reference of the

Previously society experienced the rise and fall more sporadically, however today, the recessions are
so close together that it is becoming more and more difficult to analyze the space in between. In the
recessions of 1974 1975 the government leaders, who took the iniative to alert people that in the
coming year they would experience a downturn, foresaw the recession. This recession was recorder to
be the worst since the 1930 s, for an accumulation of reasons; the largest factor being the American
aggression in the Vietnam War . Paul Volcker was a critic on the American dollar and the American s
involvement by stating Our failure to face up to the financing of the Vietnam war [was] one key factor
in setting up the subsequent inflation . This is a statement that could be used for any recession. Simply
by changing the war, and the point in which the quote could be referring to, there is the leading cause
to a recession. However, the war would then affect the natural state of the economy. Without the war
the government would have used the money elsewhere, would have gone where it needs to go, or
would the government find another cause to invest in? The questions of government spending follows
a dangerous line of whether the money spent in one place was worth it. However, with the investment
in war, it puts a deficit on the country, which leads

The Descent Of Alette Analysis
In The Descent of Alette, the word flower is used very often, but beyond its literal meaning as the
reproductive portion of a plant. However, this definition does tie into Notley s use of the word very
well, because her uses of the word flower are centered around a description of women. The use of the
word flower to describe women does not occur in the obvious sense of meaning beautiful, peaceful, or
lovely, but in describing aspects of women that lie beneath the surface and comprise their femininity.
This may come across as a sweet notion, but The Descent of Alette is a story that cannot be described
as sweet in any sense of the word, mainly because of its setting in a dystopian society run by a tyrant.
It is not stated, but it can be inferred, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This point holds true for The Descent of Alette as it acts as a cautionary tale of the dangers for women
in patriarchal societies by featuring a very apparent phenomenon. The story being based within a
dystopia adds emphasis on how disastrous a world run without the aid of a woman would be. Notley s
inclusion of situations that accentuate the gender hierarchy and the social constructs that force women
to fulfill society s expectations work to establish the value of femininity. In using the flowers to
represent femininity, Notley is able to delicately present the stakes of living without this attribute,
making us have to read between the quotation marks and the lines to realize how horrid a life would
be like without this sense of womanhood. Epic poetry also depends on the existence of a hero who
must overcome adversity and, by doing so, exalt the values cherished by a people or nation
(Mercadal). This statement does a good job of describing Alette s role within the story. All throughout
she witnessed the burning of flowers and the disadvantages women faced all while having to
overcome obstacles herself, but in the end, she was able to kill the tyrant and allow everything to

In an article published by Applied Nursing Research the authors point out that nurse staffing is related
to patient outcomes, lower levels of RN staffing are associated with higher rates of OPSN (Outcomes
Potentially Sensitive to Nursing) in both medical and surgical patients treated in hospitals, U.S.
Medicare, and other publically available administrative data (Duffield et al., 2011, p. 245). The writer
of this paper researched 5 relevant articles regarding the relationship between nurse to patient ratio,
morbidity, and mortality, every article related similar information. A systematic review of 102 studies
concluded that increased RN staffing levels are associated with lower rates of morbidity and mortality
(Ball, Murrells, Rafferty, Morrow, Griffiths, 2013, p. 2).
As one might predict from the articles reviewed not one eluded that the bedside nurse disagreed with
an improved RN to patient ratio. At this point you may be reading this saying; so hospitals need more
nurses, why don t they hire them. The answer is hospitals do, but because of the growing number of
patients in the hospitals, nurse burnout, and nurses moving from one department to another or quitting
all together, there is a nursing shortage. The problem becomes how hospitals can retain nurses when
there are so many opportunities elsewhere. The upper nursing management, often known as the VP of
nursing, collaborate with the accountants and CEO s of the hospitals and have pressure to save money

political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal. (Johnson et al., 2010; p55).
Political factors: More laws and regulations are applied in different countries due to the economic
downturn, import policy, fuel policy and consumers concern for environment and safety. For example
in tax policy for importing cars in Vietnam is very high 100% 200%. In some poor countries where
GM has office or branches, politics problems also affect auto industry. Economic factors: the
economic downturn, inflation and unstable exchange rate have reduced the spending power of
consumers. The credit crisis in Europe and economic problems in many other countries. Social
factors: many people are jobless and reduce their spends or change the demand of vehicle. The gap
between the rich and the poor is bigger and bigger in the world. Owning and driving a car shows the
owner s wealth and social status. Moreover, more people like environmental friendly vehicle.

Racheal did give birth to Joseph whom would be the father of the twelve tribes and a great leader to

Myers-Briggs Assessment
After taking a Myers Briggs assessment my mind has been changed. The very first time I took any
kind of personal assessment was my second year of college. I had taken my general education classes

random questions the results were in; you can be a doctor or lawyer or astronaut they said! The least
helpful 45 minutes of my life I gave to that advisor. Taking the Myers Briggs seemed no different. A
long test with seemingly unsystematic questions about nothing specific. This time, for the first time, I
got it. After I read the results I understood. This test didn t try to tell me what career I should select, or
what degree to pick. It simply gave me results about me. My result gave me a type ISTP, where each

Socrates and Plato both believed that a true philosopher does not fear death, but rather

eye too eye. During the conversation Socrates told them that a philosopher welcomes death. Socrates
elaborated his previous sentence by explaining that a true philosopher only interested in the soul not

A Farewell to Arms as a Classic Literary Work
A classic literary work has been defined as a work that lasts through generations because of its
universality of theme, ageless symbolism, word choice and the ordering of detail. A Farewell to Arms,
by Ernest Hemingway should be considered a classic literary work due to the universal themes,
ageless symbolism, word choice, and story detail.
Although there were several themes in this book, a major theme seemed to dominate the story. This
theme is the importance of love and loss in a male emale relationship. These two lovers were so

examples of symbolism and they all point to the fact that there is always a terrible price to pay for

The word choice and ordering of detail of this book also leads one to believe that they are reading a

Examples Of Figurative Language In To An Athlete Dying Young
A. E. Housman was a well known poet of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Within his two most
famous publications, A Shropshire Lad and Last Poems, Housman effectively uses his adept
understanding of language, its usage, and style to portray the significant themes behind all of his
poems. To an Athlete Dying Young is a perfect example of Housman s ability to convey his message
to the reader through his use of diction, syntax, and tone. Writers make specific choices in the type of
words, sentence structures, phrases and figurative language that they use in their poetry. These
decisions combine to create particular meaning within their works. Housman uses a formal diction in

America s Biggest Tragic Events
Do you know what one of the most tragic events of America s history is? On September 11, 2001 at
8:46 AM two hijacked planes crashed into both the North Tower of the World trade center. An hour
before people had come to the World Trade center and in seconds they had died, leaving families torn,
and maybe even never whole again. The radio had turned on, tower fell down, by small plane, fire
everywhere. My father had to drop my brother off at school, and had assumed that the radio was a
story of some sorts. Afterwards he went to McDonalds to eat his daily routine of a hashbrown. Right
before he would leave for work there was a call. Hello? There has been an attack on the World Trade
Center and we need you to take Eric home.
Everyone had

War I And Sick Of War
According to William Tecumseh Sherman, he is tired and sick of war. It is only those who have neither
fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance,
for desolation. War is hell. This statement is self explanatory; the nature of war is reckless. Yes, when
experiencing war, some soldiers may come across gratifying sounds of larks, song birds, which
remind them of ebullient moments. Nevertheless, is brutally fighting really worth that? Roughly ten
million soldiers lost their lives in World War I, along with seven million civilians; also, many soldiers
experienced shell shock, which is a psychological disturbance caused by war. As a result of the
heinous and atrocious experiences that many were put through, this inspired many poets to record
their remembrances. Although war may bring memories of happiness because of the pleasing sounds,
war should be considered a crime regardless of how necessary or justified it seems because war leads
to mental anguish due to the memories of physical pain, soldiers being frightened because of
unexpected occurrences and ferocious deaths.
In the poem Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen, Owen describes in stark detail the ghastly physical
symptoms and memories that led to long lasting mental torment. A few months before Owen was
killed in action in 1918, he wrote this poem that appears to draw heavily on his own experience of
being a mental case at Craiglockhart War Hospital in Edinburgh where

  • 3. General Paper 2.04 AP Practice: Part 2 10/15 total points earned. Question 1 (Worth 5 points) The boxes described below have the same volume, but different dimensions and surface area. Use this data as the basis for a discussion of beneficial cell shapes. Essay Submission When the volume is too large relative to the surface area of the cell, diffusion cannot occur at sufficiently high rates to ensure this. Therefore cells size is wanted to be relatively small. Box A s surface area to volume ratio is the smallest and therefore will be very sufficient for diffusion to occur at a high rate. Box B s surface area to volume ratio is in between Box A and Box C and so therefore will not be very sufficient but diffusion can still occur at a medium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each bag was placed in a separate beaker and covered with distilled water. The concentration of NaCl in the water outside of each bag was measured at 40 second intervals. The graph below shows the results from the 5% bag. Describe how you would expect the results of the other three bags to compare to that of the 5% bag and explain your predictions. Essay Submission I expect the 10% NaCl will, due to the high concentration gradients, decrease in concentration. While the 0% NaCl and 1% NaCl will increase in concentration. This is because the change in the solutes will change the distance of the function through the solution. Therefore, the more concentration the more distance in the function and the less concentration the less distance. Essay Feedback Solute concentrations affect the rate of diffusion, so I expect the 1% solution to diffuse slower and the 10% solution to diffuse faster. The 10% solution would be expected to diffuse at a greater rate, maybe twice that that of the 5% solution, so the plotted line will be significantly above the 5% line. The 1% solution will have a line plotted at significantly lower values than that of the 5% solution. • 4. Rhetorical Devices In American Pie Isiah Jones Professor Harley LA 201 29 November 2017 Essay 3 The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a dominate rock and roll hit in 1971. McLean illustrates famous rock star artist and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in 1962 by using rhetorical strategies. The different potential interpretations of this song made it one of the most controversial songs from the 1970 s. McLean was hitting home with many emotional resonances defining moments in the recent American experiences. American Pie starts out addressing McLean love for music in the 50 s. During the 50 s, music was a tool for getting people off their feet and on to the dance floors. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people dance, and maybe they d be happy for a while (McLean). This verse symbolizes why he loves to create and perform for his fans. McLean then goes on to mention his mentor Buddy Holly. But February made me shiver. With every paper, I d deliver. Shocking news on the doorstep, I couldn t take one more step. I can t remember if I cried. When I read about his widowed bride. But something touched me deep inside. The day the music died (McLean). Buddy Holly died on February 3, 1959, in a plane crash. There are two theories on why the song was called American Pie. It was rumored, American Pie was the name of the plane that took Buddy Holly life. Also, someone refers it to a symbol of the beauty queen Miss America (Morgan). Mclean remembered the paper boy delivering the morning paper and there on the front page, was the story of the death of Buddy Holly. At the time Holly s wife was pregnant and soon had a miscarriage afterward. McLean, he says he can t remember if he cried in the moment or not. All this was in the first few verses in American Pie. McLean incorporated these lines of imagery to help the listener picture his past emotional experiences. I believe McLean wanted to paint a picture for his audience could relate to. During these times it was tough for McLean. Not only did Buddy Holly die but also rock star legends Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper. For McLean music died for him and the rest of the world. • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Modern Monetary Theory Modern monetary theory (MMT) Modern monetary theory explains exclusively how the government, central bank and the commercial banking sector interacts, with some economists arguing that understanding of reserve accounting is critical to understanding monetary policy options. This theory was developed by a group of economist including Randal Wray (2009) and Bill Mitchell. All of the commercial banks will also have an account with the central bank. This permits the banks to manage their reserves that is, the amount of available short term money that a particular bank holds. So when the government spends, treasury will debit its cash operating account at the central bank, and deposit this money into private bank accounts (and hence into the commercial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In most countries, commercial banks reserve accounts with the central bank must have a positive balance at the end of every day; in some countries, the amount is specifically set as a proportion of the liabilities a bank have that is on its customers. This is known as a reserve requirement. At the end of every day, a commercial bank will have to examine the status of their reserve accounts. Those that are in deficit have the option of borrowing the required funds from the central bank, where they may be charged a lending rate which is also referred to as the discount rates on the amount they borrow. In a balanced system, where there are just enough total reserves for all the banks to meet requirements, the short term interbank lending rate will be in between the support rate and the discount rate. Both the Treasury and the central bank are involved in these reserve management operations to maintain interest rate stability (Palley, 2012). This applies to the relationship between the Central Bank of Kenya and its regulatory requirement to maintain a capping that is below 14%. CBK finances commercial banks at much lower rate on their borrowing so that the banks can fix their interest charges on borrowed money at certain percentage that must not exceed the limit set by the ... In general, the genogram is useful in gathering information, understanding relationship dynamics and behavioral patterns, promoting the client s self understanding, conducting assessments, and guiding the practitioner to interventions (Pope, N. • 10. The Transportation Industry Does Not Have A Great Impact... Transportation is an important sector that drives economic activities within and outside the state. Although transportation as a sector does not bring in significant revenues to the economy of Arizona, it does assist the smooth operation of other industries such as manufacturing, tourism, agriculture and mining. Without roads, rail, and airports, it would be difficult to move goods and services from one part of Arizona to another. Arizona s transportation industry does not have a great impact on its economy because the state is largely used as a transit hub. More than half of the freight that comes into Arizona originated from outside, rests for some few days and moved to their destinations in other states. This means that the Arizona state government can only gain relatively small revenues from the freight may be in the form of storage charges, repackaging, and accommodation for truck drivers. The remaining 50% of freight is intra state implying that no money is brought in from outside Arizona. Transportation sector acts as a vital factor in attracting investors because modern businesses critically examine the transport infrastructure before deciding whether to relocate or not. The Cost Of Making All Public Higher Education Free Public Higher Education To determine the cost of making all public higher education free in America, we first need to look at how much we are currently spending. In 2008 9, there were 6.4 million full time equivalent undergraduate students enrolled in public universities and 4.3 million enrolled in community colleges.1 The following year, the average cost of tuition, room, and board for undergraduates at public four year institutions was $14,870; at two year public colleges, it was $7,629.2 If we multiply the number of students in each segment of public higher education by the average total cost, we discover that the cost of making all public universities free would have been $95 billion in 2009 10, with an annual cost of $33 ... Rather than directly funding public higher education institutions, state and federal governments have often relied on tax deductions and credits to support individual students. The tax code has been used to fund higher education because it is easier for Congress to pass a tax break than it is to get funding for a particular program, but what this system has achieved is a tremendous subsidy for upper middle class and wealthy families, while lower income students are forced to take out huge loans to pay for their education. According to a recent study: From 1999 to 2009, the govern ment spent $70 billion on tax breaks aimed at subsidizing higher educa tion for families . . . about 13 percent, or $9.4 billion, of that total went to families making more than $100,000 a year. This recession was recorder to be the worst since the 1930 s, for an accumulation of reasons; the largest factor being the American aggression in the Vietnam War . Paul Volcker was a critic on the American dollar and the American s involvement by stating Our failure to face up to the financing of the Vietnam war [was] one key factor in setting up the subsequent inflation . This is a statement that could be used for any recession. Simply by changing the war, and the point in which the quote could be referring to, there is the leading cause to a recession. However, this definition does tie into Notley s use of the word very well, because her uses of the word flower are centered around a description of women. The use of the word flower to describe women does not occur in the obvious sense of meaning beautiful, peaceful, or lovely, but in describing aspects of women that lie beneath the surface and comprise their femininity. This may come across as a sweet notion, but The Descent of Alette is a story that cannot be described as sweet in any sense of the word, mainly because of its setting in a dystopian society run by a tyrant. This point holds true for The Descent of Alette as it acts as a cautionary tale of the dangers for women in patriarchal societies by featuring a very apparent phenomenon. The story being based within a dystopia adds emphasis on how disastrous a world run without the aid of a woman would be. Notley s inclusion of situations that accentuate the gender hierarchy and the social constructs that force women to fulfill society s expectations work to establish the value of femininity. In using the flowers to represent femininity, Notley is able to delicately present the stakes of living without this attribute, making us have to read between the quotation marks and the lines to realize how horrid a life would be like without this sense of womanhood. Epic poetry also depends on the existence of a hero who must overcome adversity and, by doing so, exalt the values cherished by a people or nation (Mercadal). This statement does a good job of describing Alette s role within the story. All throughout she witnessed the burning of flowers and the disadvantages women faced all while having to overcome obstacles herself, but in the end, she was able to kill the tyrant and allow everything to C[o]me to light that morning so the flowers could grow anew and no longer experience this ... It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell. This statement is self explanatory; the nature of war is reckless. Yes, when experiencing war, some soldiers may come across gratifying sounds of larks, song birds, which remind them of ebullient moments. Nevertheless, is brutally fighting really worth that? Roughly ten million soldiers lost their lives in World War I, along with seven million civilians; also, many soldiers experienced shell shock, which is a psychological disturbance caused by war. As a result of the heinous and atrocious experiences that many were put through, this inspired many poets to record their remembrances. Although war may bring memories of happiness because of the pleasing sounds, war should be considered a crime regardless of how necessary or justified it seems because war leads to mental anguish due to the memories of physical pain, soldiers being frightened because of unexpected occurrences and ferocious deaths. In the poem Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen, Owen describes in stark detail the ghastly physical symptoms and memories that led to long lasting mental torment.
