The Role Of The Social Worker
A dignified life is the undeniable right to all members of a community. Regrettably, their is a
sizable population of individuals who have difficulty accessing resources that could potentially
enhance their opportunity for self determination. Basic human needs and services catalyze dignity
and self determination. The role of the social worker is quintessential in connecting individuals in
need with helpful and life altering resources. Social workers have the difficult task of developing
institutional knowledge of resources and services associated with their field. The task is further
compounded with ever changing institutional policies. However, resource allocation is just a one
part of the social workprofession. Every client has a distinctive need and set of circumstances which
require careful inspection. Social workers engage in dynamic problem solving and individual
analysis to determine the proper recourse for each and every individual client. Analysis, research,
and interviews are paramount in understanding the needs of every client. Aside from an individual
evaluation, social workers need to determine the greater conditional forces. Part of the dynamic
process is understanding the socio economic aspect that contributes to inequity. Understanding
diversity and socio economic challenges of various group provides context from which the
individual s issues complications can be better assessed. The entirety of this analysis provides an

Similarities Between The Sacho Panza Syndrome And The...
The Sancho Panza syndrome (then) and the American dream (then and now)
In the 15th century, the combination of the Sancho Panza Syndrome and the American dream
fueled exploration at that time and created an incredibly enticing allure of the New World.
Exploration and colonization were performed to attain a higher social status, more wealth, and
fame. The result of this exploration led to the discovery of new lands and laid the foundation for
new countries, but it came with a cost. The perils of the new land discovered were often
incredibly treacherous and sometimes times even life threatening, however, the American dream
never faded away. The American dream today holds very similar to the American dream in the
15th and 16th centuries despite the gap of 500 years. These dreams are very alike, because they
both are comprised of individuals trying to achieve success in lands of opportunity, and although
some were prosperous, others were not so fortunate. The American dream today is a household
concept, which states that if a person works hard enough, he or she can make a better life for
themselves. This concept inspires countless people every day to overcome adversity in attempt to
better their life. On a personal level, I can relate to this dream vicariously through my father. My
grandfather immigrated to the United States in 1923 from Bisaccia, Italy. The Procaccino family
stood firmly on the belief that following the American dream was key to success, but despite how
hard my great grandfather worked, the Great Depression drained the money out of the Procaccino
household. John (my grandfather) yearned to become a doctor, but due to his family s financial
situation, John enlisted in the US Army during World War II. After completing his duties, he earned
an engineering degree and became a New York Cityengineer. John bore two sons named Angelo
and John II. Angelo was a naturally gifted child with tremendous brainpower, but John was more
of a rapscallion. With the guidance of Angelo, John realized that the best way to create something
with your life was to follow the American dream and work harder than anyone else. John II became
an incredible student and eventually went on to be a nationally

A New Idea For The Proposal Of Race
A New Idea for the Proposal of Race to the Students of UC Merced
Leo Alonso Cabrera
Professor Danielson
Writing 010 31
UC Merced
Introduction o Introduce the theme of your essay, which revolves around the concepts of race and
how college students choose to break social norms
College students are typically introduced to new, and often time radical ideas, that are very
different from the ones that they are shown in home.
Personal Anecdote: Before coming to school here in UCM, my dad would often talk to me in
many different occasions throughout my life about the concept of race and what it represents: o
Honor o Family o Education o Class
Many times he would emphasize to me that people of other races do not have the ability to value
the same things as a Hispanic would, and would many times reference the family of my Ex
Girlfriend, whose family is Native American and would often use stereotypes, such as Indian
Alcoholism to show me how their priorities are different than mine. She is not going to a UC, and
thus he makes that point of comparison on education to show how successful I am because of my
Hispanic values can surpass the concerns of an alcoholic Native American family.
Now propose the question o What is Race?
It is a concept that is created by Man to essentially control Man0 (The use of the law, Hudgins
v. Wright, p. 965).
According to Lopez, Race [to me] is defined as a vast group of people loosely bound together by

Blurred Lines In J. C. Burke s The Story Of Tom Brennan
In life, the line that separates victims from perpetrators is as clear as a window pane, but in some
situations that window can crack, causing damage and danger. A victim is someone who has been
harmed, or worse, due to a crime or accident. A perpetrator is a person who has committed a crime,
either accidently or purposely. Three stories that capture this blurred line are Shattered, an
Australian Story episode on ABC s website, The Story of Tom Brennan, a story written by
Australian author J.C.Burke, and In My Little Town, another Australian Story episode. They all
share the common theme of having a blurred line between victimand perpetrator.

his state of mind. Your families a real concern to the community. We don t want anything to do

Unfortunately this was not where their suffering ended, because on one horrific night Leigh Senior
appeared on the Chaplin s property with two knives in his hands. In a mad rage he stabbed all of
the Chaplin s, except Brenton, who was his original target, and then left their home. The next day
the community of Harcourt had lost two more members, Wendy Chaplin (Brenton s mother) who

Vertical Merger Essay
1.Horizontal Mergers: Horizontal mergers happen when a company merges or takes over another
company that offers the same or similar product lines and services to the final consumers, which
means that it is in the same industry and at the same stage of production. Companies, in this case,
are usually direct competitors. For example, if a company producing cell phones merges with
another company in the industry that produces cell phones, this would be termed as horizontal
merger. The benefit of this kind of merger is that it eliminates competition, which helps the
company to increase its market share, revenues and profits. Moreover, it also offers economies of
scale due to increase in size as average cost decline due to higher production volume. These kinds of
merger also encourage cost efficiency, since redundant and wasteful activities are removed from the
operations i.e. various administrative departments or departments such as advertising, purchasing
and marketing.

Vertical Mergers: A vertical merger is done with an aim to combine two companies that are in
the same value chain of producing the same good and service, but the only difference is the
stage of production at which they are operating. For example, if a clothing store takes over a
textile factory, this would be termed as vertical merger, since the industry is same, i.e. clothing,
but the stage of production is different: one firm is works in territory sector, while the other
works in secondary sector. These kinds of merger are usually undertaken to secure supply of
essential goods, and avoid disruption in supply, since in the case of our example, the clothing
store would be rest assured that clothes will be provided by the textile factory. It is also done to
restrict supply to competitors, hence a greater market share, revenues and profits. Vertical mergers
also offer cost saving and a higher margin of profit, since manufacturer s share is

Little Fish And Forrest Gump Analysis
From the directors of The Boys and Back to the Future Parts II III comes two epic tales of the
struggles and triumphs of life and everything in between. Comes two of the most iconic movies of
this generation and many more generations yet to come. Two life changing films that should, wait...
no... that need to be in the Cannes Hall Of Fame.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I present to you, the heart pounding, the mind racing, the soul
touching... FORREST GUMP AND LITTLE FISH
Little Fish and Forrest Gump are both majorly socially and culturally significant with their
portrayals of everyday life struggles, whether that s in Australia or around the world, such as drug
abuse and violence in mundane suburban areas and the struggles of normalities and abnormalities
as well as racism, sexism and marginalization of the eras and societies of which these two mind
reeling movies are set.
The impact of these two epic tales socially and culturally on audiences watching these films is
astounding, they make you think about the abuse, violence, marginalization, racism etc. going on
in the world and possibly your back yard so to speak. The actors, specifically Tom Hanks(Forrest
Gump) and Cate Blanchett (Little Fish), put you in their characters shoes and make you think and
feel as their character would in their situations and journeys through life.
These two fantastic films and their amazing actors are definitely a must see and deserve
acknowledgement and praise of the quality of the acting skills

Monotheistic Religion In The Paleolithic And Neolithic Period
Paleolithic: The Paleolithic period lasted from about 200,000 b.c. to about 10,000 b.c. It was the
early phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed a steady development of stone tools, antler and
bone artifacts, engraving on bone and stone, and paintings on the walls of caves and rock
structures. There was not much structure built or agriculture done in this period as the people lived
a nomadic lifestyle, migrating with the herds of animals they hunted for food.
Neolithic: The Neolithic period lasted from about 9000 b.c. to about 8000 b.c. It was the last phase
of the Stone Age; and encompassed the domestication of animals, the development of agriculture,
and the manufacturing of pottery and textiles. During this period people were beginning to settle
and develop a more sedentary way of life. With this type of life style came territorial issues,
meaning that because of the idea of settling and claiming land people would be more likely to
protect it or fight for it.
Monotheism: The basic definition of monotheism is the belief in one God. The opposite of
polytheism, which is the belief in many Gods, who each serve a different purpose. However, for a
monotheistic religion, the God is all knowing, all seeing and all powerful; this God would be the
sole creator and provider. There are three major religions associated with monotheism, Judaism,
Christianity and Islam.

The Elements Of Style By William Strunk Jr.
William Strunk Jr., an English professor at Cornell University in 1919 required his students to
have the textbook The Elements of Style, written by William Strunk Jr. himself. It was referred
to as the little book and was a forty three page summary of the case for cleanliness, accuracy and
brevity in the use of English (Strunk White, 2000). These rules are in the form of sharp
commands, shining light on Sergeant Strunk s personality and approach to teaching. E.B. White, a
former student of Strunk, revised the book he was given, years after his professor passed away.
White does not soften the direct orders of the original book, but preserves the flavor of his
discontent while enlarging the scope of the discussion (Strunk White, 2000 xiv). The Elements of
Styleprovides the readers with a convenient reference for grammar, while emphasizing the
importance of omitting needless words, using concrete language and active voice all in a suitable
design. When he delivered his oration on brevity to the class, he leaned forward over his desk,
grasped his coast lapels in his hands, and, in a husky, conspiratorial voice, said, Rule Seventeen.
Omit needless words! Omit needless words! Omit needless words! (Strunk White, 2000, xv). Strunk
provides an image for the most important aspect of his book. The repetition of this rule throughout
the entire book, proves not only the importance of it to Professor Strunk, but to writing as a whole.

Analysis Of Shamefully Mann s World Concert And Comedy Show
As I entered Chrysler Hall I immediately became nervous. Shamefully Mann s World Concert
and Comedy Show will be the first live gospel performance I have ever attended. However, I
didn t know what to expect. Even more embarrassing I m not as savvy in the gospel genre as I
should be. The only songs that I have heard the Mann family perform were the songs they
performed with Kirk Franklin and the Family and the popular ones that play on the radio. I
glanced around the auditorium and it appeared to a full house. The audience had several
nationalities ready to enjoy a night of gospel music. There was a deejay table off to the side
entertaining the crowd as everyone arrived at their seats. The stage had band instruments
towards the back of the stage with a deejay table in front of them. The lights were beautiful; they
displayed various scenes and sceneries throughout the show. First to arrive on stage was David
Mann Jr. He walked out and headed towards the deejay tables that were center stage. His energy
and music selections pumped the crowd up and had everyone ready to party. The lights on the
stage had a party appearance and holograms of a dancer. As the lights begin to flash a different
color I anxiously waited for the next song to start. He played all the family reunion and As I

The Purpose Of The Keirsey Temperament Sorter Test
Purpose The Keirsey Temperament Sorter Test and others like it, such as the Myers Briggs Test,
are meant to measure types and aspects of one s personality based on a series of opinionated
questions. These sorts of tests are meant to show individuals what their personality types are, as
well as the careers that would fit their personality types the best. Developed by Dr. David Keirsey,
the test sorts participant into four major groups based on their personality results: artisans,
guardians, rationals, and idealists. These groups are then narrowed down into narrower categories
based on the Myers Briggs system results for separate personality types. These results are meant to
reveal a person s true character and temperament. The Keirsey Test is greatly based on human
behavior, so it is essentially measuring the daily behaviors of participants and sorting them into
different personality types, or temperaments. The test also helps to evaluate a person s character
through the opinionated questions within the test. The opinionated approach of the test makes it a
decent measure of a person s character, but only if the participant is fully open and honest about his
true self within the test, rather than being the person that they wish to be when answering the
questions. Many have reported findings that these personality tests have low validity in their results
(Dakin et al., 1994). Because so much accountability on the participants end is required for this test,

Young And Immature In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet, the star crossed lovers , do not have real love at all (Shakespeare). They are
too young to have true love, instead it is just based off looks. If they are older they might
understand what love really is. Since they are young and immature they rush into decisions they
make. They also take drastic measures in the decisions and how to handle themselves. They are
young and immature, and this is why their story ends the way it does, in complete tragedy.
Romeo loves with his eyes, but he does not love with his heart. He is too immature to stay true to
one girl if there is another girl that is more beautiful. Romeo meets Juliet and says to Friar

When Romeo tells Friar Laurence . . . but this i pray, / That thou consent to marry us today Friar
knows it is very immature, but only does it to possibly end the feud between the families (II, iii,

instead they just get married. If they would just wait to find a good time to maybe talk to their
parents about it, that would be the mature thing to do. Romeo also has immaturity not in love, but
in revenge. After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo immaturely goes and gets Tybalt. Most of us would
do this, but it is still immature. Romeo should just wait for the Prince to give Tybalt his
punishment and everything would be fine. Instead Romeo goes and kills Tybalt, and puts his own
life in jeopardy. If Romeo would be mature and think about these things, the Prince would not
banish him to Mantua and he could still see Juliet and be with his

Radio Frequency Identification Chips Essay
Radio Frequency Identification Chips
The Food and Drug Administration has considered approving radio frequency identification chips

life on a tiny computer chip, the size of a grain of rice, implanted under your skin? The FDA

Also, the information on these chips is personal and private. The information that is put on these
chips should be decided on by the person who is having it implanted in them. As of right now,
every bit of your information goes on this chip without a question of what you would want and
what you would not want on it. The only way to keep some information off of the chip is if the
chip runs out of memory. According to Lou Dolinar of the Orlando Sentinela newspaper based out
of Orlando, Florida, published in October of 2004, the chips have very limited memory. These
chips are limited in memory because they are adapted from a product the company sells to track
lost pets and livestock.
Even if the security was stronger, there are still problems with the chips after they have been
implanted. According to Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information
Center, in a 2004 article in The New York Times, after the chip is placed under the skin, it cannot
be removed. If the chip cannot be removed, than how can all of your information be updated? Your
information changes almost everyday and if it cannot be updated, you may be twenty one inches
long for the rest of your life.
The FDA should regulate the implantation of Radio Frequency Identification Chips. The FDA
should allow the people to decide what information goes on the chip. According to the Health

African Indigenous Religions Essay
Introduction
African traditional religions were the first recorded religions to grace the plains and coasts of
Southern Africa and possibly even the world. The earliest group of people living in Southern
Africa has been named the San people. It was thought that San etchings and implements found in
caves dated back to between 10 000 and 20 000 years ago (Deacon, 1999). However in 2008 the
oldest art to date was found in a cave in Still Bay in Cape Town, called the Blombos cave. It was
named by Christopher Henshilwood and dates back to 77,000 years (Wits, 2014). This rock art is

NHS Core Values
This assignment will discuss the core values that underpin social and health service delivery and
will compare the current health service provision with health care services at the inception of the
NHS. The NHS has seven core values that aim to ensure that quality care is delivered to everyone
regardless of their gender, religion, race, age, wealth or sexual orientation. These values have been
developed by the general public, patients and staff, with local authorities having to develop and
adapt these to provide personalised care. These values not only underpin the social and health
delivery service, but also influence the legislation regarding care. For example the Care Act 2014

This has not changed in the current NHS, albeit more values have been added to improve service
delivery. The NHS remains free with the exception of some charges, such as prescriptions, optical
and dental services. It covers everything from antenatal screening and routine treatments for long
term conditions, to transplants, emergency treatment and end of life care.
The National Health Service (NHS) was planned as a three tier structure. With the Minister of
Health at the top and below were the three tiers designed to interact with each other to suit the
needs of the patient. These tiers were voluntary and municipal hospitals supervised by Regional
hospital boards, family doctors, dentists, opticians and pharmacists who were self employed
professionals contracted to the NHS to provide services so that patients did not pay directly and
local health authorities like community clinics that provided services such as immunisations,
maternity care and school medical services controlled by a local authority Medical Health. The
NHS in England is undergoing some big changes, most of which took effect on April 1 2013. This
included the abolition of primary care trusts (PCTs) and strategic health authorities (SHAs), and the
introduction of clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and Health watch England.
From the 1950s onwards the scale and quality of the treatment provided by the National Health
Service (NHS) improved, and between 1948

The Minimum Pay For Labour Or Services
INTRODUCTION
According to the Concise Law Dictionary, wage means the giving of a security for the
performance of anything. The money paid for labour or services usually according to specified

Wages, in the widest sense, mean any economic compensation paid by the employer, under some

allowance, relief pay, financial support and other benefits. But, in the narrower sense, wages are
the price paid for the services of labor in the process of production and include only the

Minimum Wage:
A minimum wage is a compensation paid to the workers by the employer, irrespective of his

Force Lab Results
During this lab, my partner and I had to figure out what our variables were in order to start the
tests. Our independent variables were mass, surface area, height, and the force applied. Our
dependent variable was the amount of time it took the object took to reach the ground. Lastly,
our control variables were the type of object, height, planet, force, temperature, and air
resistance. We then began our experiment by gathering all our materials for each factor that
was being tested. We did our tests several times to get an accurate answer. For some of the tests,
we could not figure out which object hit the ground first, so we used an app that recorded the
object falling. The app slowed the video down, so that we could see which object fell first. We
then recorded our results on a piece of paper. The purpose of this lab was to test the different
factors that affected a falling object. The factors that were being tested were mass, surface area,
height and force applied. We achieved this purpose by doing all of the different tests successfully.
I learned that the heavier an object or the more force you apply, that is how much faster the object
drops to the ground. I also learned the smaller the height of an object or the lesser the surface area,

The Feminism Of Harriet Jacobs
Nehemiah Walls
Oct. 29, 2016
Eng.333
The Feminism of Harriet Jacobs Since the early annuls of history minority groups have always
faced opposition for the dominating forcing. As a counter rebuttal movements and uprisings usually
occurred in order to correct and promote better treatment within these oppressed groups. Feminism
served as a mechanism to promote equity amongst gender, sexual, ethnic, and even economic lines.
Notwithstanding, there still looms bigotry and oppression from the heavily dominated ideals of the
elite patriarchy. Harriet Jacobs s personal narrative, Incidents in the Life of Slave Girl unveils the
objectification, exploitation, and feminist perceptions of liberation from the reins of a heavily
dominated white patriarchal society during the 19th century through the experiences of the main
character Linda Brent. How did Jacobs reveal the hardships that slave women faced through the
eyes of Linda Brent? While captive black women faced constant sexual encroachments by their
slave holders, Richard Follett, author of the article, Lives of Living Death : The reproductive lives
of slave women in the cane world of Louisiana stated, despite the enormous burdens that
enslavement imposed on them...bondwomen challenged the misogynist assumptions that
underpinned plantation practices (Follett pg. 290). Notwithstanding Follett s proposal, Jacobs
refute his claims of bondwomen challenging the sexual advancements of their masters. Brent
describes a situation

Advantages Of Decentralization Of Government
3.1 Fiscal Decentralization and the Government Budget
According to Seda (2009), the organization of government accounts in Indone sia was originally
rooted in the Dutch budgetary system in the colonialial era, called Indische Comptabiliteitswet
(ICW) and instituted in 1867. After gaining independence, Indonesian politics began the old order
era marked by the rule of its first president, Soekarno. During this time, the new state adapted the
Dutch budget system, which was highly centralized and consisted of two sim plified groups income
and expenditure, without a system of checks and bal ances by level or part of government. The
expenditures side included routine expenditure and capital expenditure and the central government
held complete authority to allocate the budget and formulate a development program. The law
Number 5 Year 1974 regulated the basic principles of local government, however, the state system
in practice was still centralized in all manners (Smoke Lewis, 1996). The second president,
Soeharto, also ran the government in a centralistic, authoritarian style, therefore the budgetary
system remained both formulated and decided upon by the central government. This only changed
in the aftermath of the financial crisis in 1999.
With the passing of Law Number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Treisman argues that decentralization could reduce efficiency and quality of public services,
especially in the absence of a regulative assignment of responsibilities between central and regional
government (Treisman, 2000). Eckardt criticizes that the bulk of the resources re arranged during
fiscal decentralization has done little more than increase the percentage of local government
expenditure reserved for civil servant salaries (Eckardt, 2008). Prud Homme (1995) adds that
decentralization could increase disparity, reduce efficiency and may indeed increase

Religious Philosophies and the Meaning of Life
All throughout history philosophers, politicians, and religious leaders have pondered the meaning
of life. 20th century philosopher Albert Camus found that it Western society was far too focused
on substance rather than understanding that it is the search for actualization or the process as
opposed to the destination that provides the true meaning of life (Camus, 1942). Still others,
Friedrich Nietzsche, for instance, found that it was suffering in its literal sense, or the process of
undergoing, that defined the meaning of life. This was the ultimate search for freedom and
actualization intellectual and emotional satisfaction (Nietzsche, 2004). Taking this view further, it
seems as if the 21st century as brought the challenge of overcoming one s base instincts and
striving for more, to be any kind of a person, one s life must have a unity to it, the continuity and
coherence which comes from constructing one s life as a work of art (Young, 2003, 117). Karl
Marx called religionthe opiate of the masses, in that it both numbs and comforts people, but really
leaves them in a perpetual state of confusion and falsehoods. Yet it is primarily religion that humans
turn to when facing questions about the meaning of life.
It is interesting, too, that this idea of the meaning of life has ingrained in so very many parts of
culture popular, spiritual, and philosophical. There was a full screen movie called Monty Python s
Meaning of Life that examined the question from a humorous

Marx s Views On Private Property
Introduction English philosopher John Locke and German philosopher Karl Marx seem
completely opposed in their views of private property. While Locke believes that private property
is a natural right, Marx believes that private property should be abolished. Throughout this paper,
Locke s and Marx s individual philosophies on private propertywill be presented and examined.
Ultimately, this paper seeks to show the similarities between these thinkers viewpoints on private
property and demonstrate that Marx s philosophies have some roots in Locke s. Moreover, this
paper will examine how these philosophies affected the course of social, economic, and
civilizational process.
Private Property and its Relation to Government and Society
Locke saw the ownership of property an important natural rights, as well as fundamental to a
good government and society. He believed that all citizens had a right to life, liberty, and
property , if they had the means to attain it (SOURCE). He discusses his theories of property in
the Second Treatise of Government. He said that God gave man the earth to hold in common.
However, once man adds labor to the earth it becomes their private property. When a man plows a
field, for example, it becomes his and so too do the benefits (or the fruits) of this land.
The main purpose of the government, for Locke, is to protect an individual s private property.
When a state of nature is in place, there is no way for an individual to ensure that their property

Castrati In The 18th Century
Castrati were very popular during the 18th century. Boys from the age of 8 to 12 years old or
even before they hit puberty would be castrated with the intention of saving their high pitched
voices and they were now called castrati. The effects of this operation would vary depending on
when it occurred. According to Tony Perrottet , if the castration occurred on before the age of 10,
they often grew up with feminine features, smooth, hairless bodies, incipient breasts, infantile
penis and a complete lack of sex drive. Perrottet continues that on the opposite side, males operated
on after the age of 10 continued physically develop and could often hold erections. This operation

Both ladies and gentlemen of society desired them. This is interesting due to the fact that words
for gender identities had not yet been created at this time . An example of the obsession but
hypocrisy with castrati is seen when castrato Giuston Tenducci and Dorothy Maunsell, an Irish
heiress, eloped to the outrage of her father who later found Tenducci and threw him in jail . The
father approved of the castrato until he married his daughter and could not reproduce. In a way
castrati could be considered as a taboo love interest and therefore this is what made them more
attractive. During the 18th century, castrati were also thought to have angel voices which was
attractive to the audience. The infatuation with castrati and their voices overpowered the thought
that castration for boys was unethical and so the operation continued. This contrasts to the belief
that this operation in the present day violates a basic human right and is too unethical even with the
results to continue. Angus Heriot, modern day critic and author, expresses this from the description
of the last castrati, Alessandro Moreschi, He is surprising, but never exquisite. These thoughts from
modern day denote that the talent is not thought to surpass the unethicalness of the operation and
therefore the operation continues to be

Terrorists who come from Muslim diasporas can be represented in three categories: converts to
Islam, second generation failed conformity and first generation migrants who no fit into their new

society. The July 7, 2005 (7/7) London bombers were British born Muslims, focused greater
attention on the Islamic community. It was a series of coordinated terrorist suicide bomb attacks in
central London. The effect of the 7/7 bombing resulted in discriminating tensions and negatively
impacted social structure, and has resulted in an even greater degradation of race and religion
relations in Britain than did the 9/11 attacks in the United States . The false information and the
legitimizing stereotypes were the media s doing. The events in the Middle East have provided the
driving force for activism and recruitment. The Dutch government s approach to counterterrorism is
a law enforcement issue. And some policies are aimed at preventing radicalization and other social

including Islamic organizations are involved in the decision making. Some of these traits are
related to the Department of Homeland Security policies. The questions of race, religion, and

The Golden Age of Athens
The Golden age of Athens
Fifth century Athens refers to the Greek city state of Athens in the period of roughly 480 BC 404
BC. This was a period of Athenian political hegemony, economic growth and cultural flourishing
formerly known as the Golden Age of Athens or The Age of Pericles. The period began in 480 BC
when an Athenian led coalition of city states, known as the Delian League, defeated the Persians at
Salamis. As the fifth century wore on, what started as an alliance of independent city states
gradually became an Athenian empire. Eventually, Athensabandoned the pretense of parity among
its allies and relocated the Delian League treasury from Delos to Athens, where it funded the
building of the AthenianAcropolis. With its enemies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The magistrates
The magistrates were people who occupied a public post and formed the administration of the
Athenian state. They were submitted to rigorous public control. The magistrates were chosen
by lot, using fava beans. Black and white beans were put in a box and depending on which color
the person drew out they obtained the post or not. This was a way of eliminating the personal
influence of rich people and possible intrigues and use of favors. There were only two categories
of posts not chosen by lot, but by election in the Popular Assembly. These were strategos, or
general, and magistrate of finance. It was generally supposed that significant qualities were needed
to exercise each of those two offices. A magistrate s post did not last more than a year, including
that of the strategoi and in this sense the continued selection of Pericles year after year was an
exception. At the end of every year, a magistrate would have to give an account of his
administration and use of public finances.
The most honored posts were the ancient archontes, or archons in English. In previous ages they

Composer Franz Schubert As A Master Composer Of Songs
Viennese composer Franz Schubert is often regarded as a master composer of songs. He is also
known for creative and unexpected movement between keys in his compositions. Dying at a
tragically young age, Schubert managed to release an enormous body of works, publishing over
two hundred songs while alive. Despite this already impressive output of songs, nothing stopped
Schubert from composing symphonies, chamber music, and solo works as well. Close analysis of
his music reveals how skillfully Schubert was able to set text, move fluidly to foreign keys, and
much more. In this paper, Schubert s vocal piece entitled Erlkönig and his work for solo piano,
Moments Musicaux 5 in F minor, will be explored more deeply The text in Erlkönig begins and
ends with a nameless narrator. He opens, setting the scene, a father rides with his sick child in the
night, racing to a nearby farmhouse to get help for his son. Schubert s repeated octave staccato
triplets suggest the hoofbeats of the important fifth character, the horse, the vehicle of hope and
deliverance; the four minutes of his song convey the urgency of a ride against an indistinct but
baleful force (Bamforth). During the ride, the son recounts his hallucination of the Erlking, the king
of the elves, chasing them to his father. The boy says the Erlking is promising the boy him, games,
even his daughters, but his father tries to calm him, sying these are only wind rustling in the leaves

1. Biology of cfDNA
1.1 Origin
Although the concept of cfDNA has been raised since 1948, mechanisms leading to the
appearance of cfDNA in blood are still not clearly known. However, it was found that cell death
is the major origin of cfDNA.[6] Apoptosis and necrosis of nucleated cells can contribute to the
generation of cfDNA. Apoptosis is a controlled process of cell death and leads to a fragmented
nuclear genome visualized by a nucleosomal ladder.[7] On the other hand, cell necrosis is an
uncontrolled release of cellular contents. Therefore, they present differences in the size of DNA
fragments released. Moreover, cfDNA can also derive from living cells by a poorly understood
mechanism of active release.
1.2 Existent forms and Transporting mechanisms
Cell free DNA (cfDNA) is defined as the DNA presenting extracellularly and freely circulating in
the bloodstream, which can exist in several forms, namely unbound DNA fragments, nucleosomes,
vesicle bound DNA and virtosomes,[8] illustrated in figure 1.
1.2.1 Unbound DNA fragments
Free DNA fragments are unbound by any molecule or surface. They are digested by DNases in
blood[9] and have a half life of less than 2 hours.[10, 11] However, it was reported that in cancer

also introduced changes in the physical as well as MAC layers to make marked changes in the

So the transmitter can increase the output of the antennas in the direction of computers farther

include: 1. 40 Mhz bandwidth (channel bonding) which can get data rates as high as 600Mpbs
which is a ten fold increase as compared with 802.11 a thru g. 2. Frame aggregation transmits
multiple MAC frames in a PHY packet. 3. Reverse direction protocol allows the ability to

Voice over WLAN and multimedia streaming. This is especially important as more telephone

The access point can speed up or slow down based on the receivers in its broadcast area. 6. Channel

though the transmitter is not transmitting at 40MHz. This is good to increase throughput for

world a better place. Mr. Washington was born between 1858 and 1859 on a plantation in
Franklin County, Virginia. And lived in a dirt floor one room cabin with his mother and two
siblings John and Amanda. His childhood was not your normal childhood, after all he was born
a slave, and labored early in the day into the night like everyone else on the plantation. There was
no frolicking for him, or happy fond memories of breakfast or dinners around the table, meals
were often eaten straight out of the pot much like a trough for the animals. Schooling for him
was not part of his life or any slave, to be able to attend school would have been a beautiful
dream much like how he imagined heaven would be. After the war the family moved to Malden
W. Virginia with their stepfather, whom they hardly knew, their new home was a step down
from shanty cabin they lived on the plantation. Here in Malden is where his education started, he
soon learned to recognize the number 18, that was assigned to his stepfathers in the salt mine.
Likewise his mother by a miracle secured his first book, Webster s blue black speller , he also
was able to attend night school after his shift in the salt mine. He would imagine what it must have
been like to be white, with no limits, stopping you from becoming whoever or whatever you want
in life. Mr. Washington learned success is not the title or position you hold, it is the difficulties you
have come through on your road to

Heroism In The Odyssey
Heroism a Concept
What is a Hero? According to Umberto Eco (an Italian novelist) The real hero is always a hero by
mistake; He dreams of being an honest coward like everybody else. I think this is a magnificent
quote. In some ways I agree with Umberto Eco but in other I don t. I agree with Umberto Eco on
that heroes are always a hero by mistake with a few exceptions. One place where I don t agree
with Umberto Eco is that not every hero has dreams of being an honest coward, well some do
but others display courage, wisdom, intelligence, bravery, and their willpower to succeed. Heroes
can come in various different concepts. It all depend on what appeals to one as a hero, but now let
me show you what appeals to be a hero to me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Odysseus displays great wisdom. In the Trojan war, (which took place somewhere around the
13th century B.C.) Odysseus displayed wisdom by tricking the trojans to think that they have
won with a huge victory gift (The Trojan horse) during their feist that contained a lot of soldier
in it that surprised the Trojans at the least expected moment which made odysseus a hero for
greatly impacting the success of the Trojan war. After the war while returning home Odysseus
displayed his bravery and willpower. While Odysseus and his crew were cursed by poseidon that
they would never see Ithaca, (their homeland) like the hero he is, in their desperate times he
encouraged his crew to not lose hope on returning to Ithaca. Another reason that I picked
Odysseus is because he does everything it takes in order to reach her goal. While returning back
from the war Odysseus and his crew overcame countless obstacles and in all of them Odysseus
does everything he can to ensure the safety of his crew. If he hadn t gone to the war he wouldn t
be a hero that is what makes him a hero by

1960s Cultural Changes
During the 1960 s, many significant cultural changes took place. These changes were so
significant that their effects can still be seen today. Among these changes are the changes and
developments in music and race relations. These changes left very obvious marks on the time
period. As such, the view that the 1960 s was a period of major cultural change is true and this can
be seen through the changes in music and the developments in race relations. Many important
events took place during the 1960 s. During this time, the Vietnam War reached its climax and
public disapproval of the war significantly increased, as people disagreed with many of the actions
done by the United Statesduring the war and became tired of the war. This led to anti war... Show

The song was called I Feel Like I m Fixin to Die Rag. Possibly the best remembered anti war
song, this song criticized the Vietnam War and said, satirically mocking those who were for the

disapproval of the war illustrates the cultural change during the time period by showing the new
willingness of singers to voice their disapproval for a war in songs they created, something that was
not done previously. As such, the change in culture and society during this time can be seen

b. There has been a lack of good management on accounting, people, and business overview of
Westlake Lanes. iv. Make sure that every new investment or expense follows the strict cost control
that Givens has been following. v. Once the business becomes profitable do not share the dividends
between the owners and reinvest them.
Course of action and justification
Due to the losses that the business has experienced in the past 3 years, it is critical to take action
and define a new way to approach the market in order to make the company profitable again. That s
why it s necessary to adapt the business by adding a new concept focusing on a different target
without setting aside the current and loyal costumers.
The new strategy consists on attracting families by adding kid friendly video and arcade games
and a private party space to complement the existing lanes.
As a first step Shelby Givens needs to familiarize with the kid business and make a research of
other bowling businesses where the Kid Friendly zone has been already implemented in order to
get the knowledge and get ideas in how to do it. Then, adapt the facilities according the strategy s
needs. Also would be necessary to create a new job position with the expertise required for
handling kid s events so Shelby Givens can focus mostly in the general management. Advertising

The Accounting Firm Hatchet And Co
A) The accounting firm Hatchet Co ( Hatchet ), could be sued by Giant plc. ( Giant ), as in their
audit, the company accounts has been overstated, causing initially a rise in the shares value but
then naturally a drastic fall when Giant was found to be making losses. The accounting firm is
also thought to be liable towards some shareholders as Gloria and Henry, which lost the money
they invested in the company. Hatchet, being an Accounting firm and thus treated in the low of
torts as a professional entity has a duty of care towards the public limited company Giant under the
United Kingdom company law, and it could be sued for professional negligent misstatement.
Hatched might also be sued by Gloria and Henry which relied on the accounts for their investments.
The profit was accounted to be ВЈ10 million while Giant was truly making losses, that drove the
investments up and the director of Giant invested $2 millions in a new venture while Henry and
Gloria bought respectively 10 000 and 1 000 shares more. Here, the claimants in order to
succeed have to show: The existence of a duty of care, which was owed to him by the defendant
Then they have to prove the breach of that duty by the defendant At the end a damage caused by
the negligent action, has to be proved by the claimants. Now I will analyse if those three cases are
likely to be happened in this situation. In relation to the duty of care, it is fundamental to know that

Characteristics Of The Humble Narcissistic
The humble narcissist
Steve Jobs makes for a riveting leadership case study because he was a remarkable innovator,
exceptional marketer, and a visionary while at the same time being vicious, narcissistic and
tyrannical. He is the textbook case for someone with a Narcissistic Personality Disorder but what
sets him apart from the rest of the narcissists was that he was successful in harnessing the strengths
of narcissism while tempering its weakness.
From its inception in 1976, Apple was run by Jobs with an iron first. He was infamous for being
consumed with his sense of importance and brilliance to the point where he unfalteringly damaged
others by exploiting and bullying them. He was rightly accused of being egoistic, controlling,
manipulative, condescending and impassive. He was often guilty of humiliating subordinates
publicly, planning coups against colleagues and overriding other s opinions and suggestions. His
weaknesses lead to his ouster form Apple in 1985. At just 30 years old, he was jobless, branded a
public failure and on the verge of depression.
Jobs realized that inculcating self involvement with humility will help him succeed, and that
realization only came to him when he was humiliated. When narcissism works in tandem with
expressions of humility, it fosters the best outcomes. Effective leaders are individuals who learn to
balance disparate leadership qualities with humility to prevent their narcissism from damaging their
leadership effectiveness (Owens,

The Movement For Higher Education

Abstract
New programs, courses, experiences and changing requirements for the development of new skills
pave the way for different opportunities for students to prepare for initial and continuing practice
in a rapidly changing society (Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 36). As a nurse there are so many great
opportunities. You can become a nurse by enrolling in different types of programs. Those
available programs today include diploma, associates, or bachelor s degree. The most popular

52).
The Movement for Higher Education in Nursing
Nurses in today s society should be required to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) as
the minimal degree required to practice as a registered nurse. A baccalaureates degree provides
great outcomes for both the patient and the nurse. While in that type of nursing program the
nurse will be able to gain more expertise. These programs provide the nursing student greater
depth in learning about the multiple disease processes that can be encountered with patients.
BSN programs focus more emphasis on the family and community and health promotion and
illness and prevention; a large part of clinical experience is in diverse community settings
(Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 52). Upon obtaining the BSN you will be able to further your education if
you decide you would like to specialize in a certain area. Most specialty areas require the BSN
degree for practice and as preparation for specialty certification. Admission into master programs
usually requires a BSN or other degree (Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 52).
Choosing to Become a Nurse
Because of the multitude of changes, registered nurses need strong critical thinking skills that
enable them to change old and incorporate new care practices, as well as the ability to approach
clinical issues using multiple ways of thinking (Newton Moore, 2013, p. 154). The decision to
become a nurse for each individual varies. Some may become a nurse for the joy of

A female patient, age nineteen, going to her gynecologist for assistance in fertility. The patient
reported trying to conceive for approximately six months with no success, also reporting no
previous pregnancies of any kind. When asked about consistency of her menstrual cycle, the
patient reported that she had only four or five cycles a year. Patient also discussed occasional
abrupt pain in the pelvic/pubic area. The pain reached an eight on the pain scale, but normally
did not last for more than a couple of minutes. Check in weight and height revealed a B.M.I of
38.3, which according to the National Institutes of Health, is obese. The physician then asked
the patient to talk about her weight and diet. The patient revealed struggling with weight loss,
even while on an appropriate diet. The physician then asked the patient if she experienced any
abnormal or excess body hair growth. The patient, looking a little confused, replied yes and
showed the physician stubble like facial hair that was thick and coarse. It was also noted by the
physician that the patient had moderate acne. Patient s paperwork reported an unclear overall
family history with an unknown father, but the mother s side of the family had a history of
obesity, heart disease, and severe depressive disorder. Current medications were Zoloft, 100mg
daily and a multi vitamin. Past hospitalizations were two weeks in the Children s Psychiatric

Telemachus Reflection
Through his journey to Pylos and Sparta, Telemachus, who was born into a very privileged and
high ranking family, learns how to use his inherited social status and connections for his own
interests, which will help him mature into manhood. Telemachus was never old enough to
remember what it was like when his father was around. Since Odysseusleft, he has lived with his
mom and nurse. However, for three years, he has been overwhelmed by suitors, who have taken
over his house. Odysseus was never able to show Telemachus how to stand up for himself.
Telemachus has been less than passive when going about doing things to get what he wants.
When Athena comes and tells him that his father is going to come home, he realizes he has
been ignoring what he knows is wrong, such as the suitors throwing parties every night, and that
he needs to stop them. He doesn t have any idea of how he is going to find his father when
Athena comes, but he along his way finds that he has many resources and connections at hand
that will allow him to find out what happened to his dad. Athena, disguised as Mentor, an old
friend of Odysseus, encourages Telemachus to talk to Nestor. Telemachus, no more shyness, this
is not the time!/ We sailed the seas for this, for news of your father // So go right up to Nestor.../
/ Press him yourself to tell the whole truth:/ he ll never lie the man is far too wise (3.16 22) Here,
Athena is encouraging Telemachus to be assertive, to get what the needs to know to find his
father. Telemachus responds, How can I greet him, Mentor, even approach the king?/ I m hardly
adept at subtle conversation./ Someone my age might feel shy, what s more,/ interrogating an
older man. / (3.23 27) He is intimidated. The irony is that he himself is of the higher class, and if
Odysseus had been home, he would be accustomed to these interactions. This is Odysseus learning
that he has high social status and can enjoy the privileges he was born with, such as being able to
talk to the king. While there, Telemachus learns of the fate of the family of Agamemnon.
Agamemnon came home to find his wife in love with Aegisthus, and together they kill him.

The Philosophy Of Epicurus, Epictetus, And Aquinas
Through the works of Epicurus, Epictetus, and Aquinas, it is evident that their philosophies inherit
a great deal of virtue. Although roughly specified, virtue is implanted within their different
ideologies. From achieving happiness, stoic beliefs, and in respects to Christian idealism, virtue
turns out to be the driving factor in determining the ideal meaning of life from the perspective of
each philosopher and it gives them their value. Backed by firm evidence, it is notable that virtueis
more apparent in the Thomism philosophy.
The philosophy of Epicurus sought virtue as a condition of serenity in the soul. According to
his thought, Epicureanism is centered in the achievement of happiness through the elimination
of one s desires, and on pleasure and virtue claiming that It is impossible to live pleasantly
without living wisely and honorably and justly (Epicurus, Doctrines, 1). This signifies that
pleasure and virtue are interdependent and both sustain the concept of this ideology. To achieve
happiness, one must do its best to live as virtuously as possible if they are to live a pleasant life.
Pleasure is declared as the beginning and end of the happy life and by nature the greatest good
(Epicurus, Doctrines, 13). This is so because living a life of pleasure means pain is absent and
therefore makes life meaningful. Reason and virtue play an important role in the Epicurean notion
of pleasure, leading the wise man to choose a simple life and rational action above

According to Gnoffo (2005), by the end of 2004, Forrester Research estimated there were TiVos
and other DVRs in 6.5 million US households, up from 1.9 million in 2002. That number, the
firm claims, will climb to almost 50 million by 2009, representing 41% of all US households. On
another front, the popularity of Netflix, an online subscription service boasting 3 million users,
prompted both Blockbuster and Wal Mart to offer similar services whereby people rent DVDs
for an unlimited time for a monthly fee. While it s true that DVDs may be a cash cow for
studios, theaters suffer when patrons skip the cinema experience and wait for those releases at
home. Needless to say, given the increase in entertainment options, the movie going experience
needs to be far more compelling to draw in audience members. Moreover, this challenge is not
likely to subside, but rather grow more compelling: as discussed by Charny (2005), a recent study
by Informa Research Services indicates that 125 million people about 5% of all cell phone owners
will be watching television on their handsets by 2010. In addition, the Digital Lifestyles 2006

The Representation Of The Society Through Art
Chinese Literature Student Name Institution Affiliation Chinese Literature Throughout the human
revolution, the representation of the society through art has been a common phenomenon. On the
advent of literary skills of writing, people could represent their world better than before. However,
the artists were only allowed to present the social ideas in the acceptable or the classical ways.
Unfortunately, this traditional method of conveying knowledge or ideas was limited and somehow
unrealistic of what was truly happening in the community. The language had to be polished and
altered to fit the social standards. Nevertheless, as the traditional forms of leadership shifted slowly
from the feudal to more democratic ones,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diary is meant to brief the visiting friend on the man s behavior and thoughts while suffering
from the psychiatric disorder. Interestingly, Xun starts this story by using classical writing when
introducing the sane friend but totally switches to vernacular when writing the content of the
madman. The vernacular use enables the author to speak of the society as it is, using the very
words that are employed in the society. Therefore, this makes his work more realistic. Furthermore,
the themes that the author employs are authentic as well. Through realism writing movement, Xun
criticizes the four thousand years old feudal Chinese system which has perpetuated human
cannibalism. Through an insane man, the author exposes the real tribulations that everyday people
go through and have come to perceive it as part and parcel of their lives. Also, Xun uses
characterization to bring out the issues that would be considered uncomfortable in such
governance. Therefore, the madman character, who has the social freedom to say anything and is
more likely to be ignored, enables Xun to agonize the feudal system injustices. Apart from
characterization, Xun employs symbolism and hyperbole in his work. In A Madman s Diary, the
author uses cannibalism to symbolize the feudal Chinese system, which for thousands of years has
enabled the wealthy to further benefit off the poor. As a result, the gap between the poor and the
rich would never be bridged. Through the diarist, it is

Women s Suffrage Movement
In 1893 New Zealand became the first country in the world to give women the right to vote, this
made them leaders in the women s suffrage movement. This is an historical event that is of
significance to New Zealanders when the bill was passed and continues to impact New Zealanders
now. Prior to 1893 there were many issues which women faced that significantly impacted the
quality of their lives and their families, especially their children.
As a result of industrialism in New Zealand families were beginning to earn more. They were
beginning to hire servants to assist in their homes leaving women with fewer traditional
household chores that they had to complete. These included educating the children, because they
were now being sent to school, cleaning and cooking. Women were able to work and had more
free time now, this meant that they were able to discuss the issues which were present in society.
Due to this many women began to consider the idea of campaigning with this extra time for
women s suffrage the right to vote. Women believed that in order for moral and social reform to
occur in New Zealand society and to purify New Zealand s politics it was vital for women to have
the right to vote. Prior to women receiving the right to vote there were many issues present in New
Zealand. These issues encouraged women to fight for this basic right for eight years.1

  • 3. Similarities Between The Sacho Panza Syndrome And The... The Sancho Panza syndrome (then) and the American dream (then and now) In the 15th century, the combination of the Sancho Panza Syndrome and the American dream fueled exploration at that time and created an incredibly enticing allure of the New World. Exploration and colonization were performed to attain a higher social status, more wealth, and fame. The result of this exploration led to the discovery of new lands and laid the foundation for new countries, but it came with a cost. The perils of the new land discovered were often incredibly treacherous and sometimes times even life threatening, however, the American dream never faded away. The American dream today holds very similar to the American dream in the 15th and 16th centuries despite the gap of 500 years. These dreams are very alike, because they both are comprised of individuals trying to achieve success in lands of opportunity, and although some were prosperous, others were not so fortunate. The American dream today is a household concept, which states that if a person works hard enough, he or she can make a better life for themselves. This concept inspires countless people every day to overcome adversity in attempt to better their life. On a personal level, I can relate to this dream vicariously through my father. My grandfather immigrated to the United States in 1923 from Bisaccia, Italy. The Procaccino family stood firmly on the belief that following the American dream was key to success, but despite how hard my great grandfather worked, the Great Depression drained the money out of the Procaccino household. John (my grandfather) yearned to become a doctor, but due to his family s financial situation, John enlisted in the US Army during World War II. After completing his duties, he earned an engineering degree and became a New York Cityengineer. John bore two sons named Angelo and John II. Angelo was a naturally gifted child with tremendous brainpower, but John was more of a rapscallion. With the guidance of Angelo, John realized that the best way to create something with your life was to follow the American dream and work harder than anyone else. John II became an incredible student and eventually went on to be a nationally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A New Idea For The Proposal Of Race A New Idea for the Proposal of Race to the Students of UC Merced Leo Alonso Cabrera Professor Danielson Writing 010 31 UC Merced Introduction o Introduce the theme of your essay, which revolves around the concepts of race and how college students choose to break social norms College students are typically introduced to new, and often time radical ideas, that are very different from the ones that they are shown in home. Personal Anecdote: Before coming to school here in UCM, my dad would often talk to me in many different occasions throughout my life about the concept of race and what it represents: o Honor o Family o Education o Class Many times he would emphasize to me that people of other races do not have the ability to value the same things as a Hispanic would, and would many times reference the family of my Ex Girlfriend, whose family is Native American and would often use stereotypes, such as Indian Alcoholism to show me how their priorities are different than mine. She is not going to a UC, and thus he makes that point of comparison on education to show how successful I am because of my Hispanic values can surpass the concerns of an alcoholic Native American family. Now propose the question o What is Race? It is a concept that is created by Man to essentially control Man0 (The use of the law, Hudgins v. Wright, p. 965). According to Lopez, Race [to me] is defined as a vast group of people loosely bound together by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Blurred Lines In J. C. Burke s The Story Of Tom Brennan In life, the line that separates victims from perpetrators is as clear as a window pane, but in some situations that window can crack, causing damage and danger. A victim is someone who has been harmed, or worse, due to a crime or accident. A perpetrator is a person who has committed a crime, either accidently or purposely. Three stories that capture this blurred line are Shattered, an Australian Story episode on ABC s website, The Story of Tom Brennan, a story written by Australian author J.C.Burke, and In My Little Town, another Australian Story episode. They all share the common theme of having a blurred line between victimand perpetrator. We were two complete strangers. The only thing that brings us together is that night. He was the ... We don t want anything to do with you people and never have. So just leave us alone. (Australian Story, 2010) Soon after, people in the community began putting up signs with murder and killer lives here written on them. Unfortunately this was not where their suffering ended, because on one horrific night Leigh Senior appeared on the Chaplin s property with two knives in his hands. In a mad rage he stabbed all of the Chaplin s, except Brenton, who was his original target, and then left their home. • 6. Vertical Merger Essay 1.Horizontal Mergers: Horizontal mergers happen when a company merges or takes over another company that offers the same or similar product lines and services to the final consumers, which means that it is in the same industry and at the same stage of production. Companies, in this case, are usually direct competitors. For example, if a company producing cell phones merges with another company in the industry that produces cell phones, this would be termed as horizontal merger. The benefit of this kind of merger is that it eliminates competition, which helps the company to increase its market share, revenues and profits. Moreover, it also offers economies of scale due to increase in size as average cost decline due to higher production volume. These kinds of merger also encourage cost efficiency, since redundant and wasteful activities are removed from the operations i.e. various administrative departments or departments such as advertising, purchasing and marketing. 2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vertical Mergers: A vertical merger is done with an aim to combine two companies that are in the same value chain of producing the same good and service, but the only difference is the stage of production at which they are operating. For example, if a clothing store takes over a textile factory, this would be termed as vertical merger, since the industry is same, i.e. clothing, but the stage of production is different: one firm is works in territory sector, while the other works in secondary sector. These kinds of merger are usually undertaken to secure supply of essential goods, and avoid disruption in supply, since in the case of our example, the clothing store would be rest assured that clothes will be provided by the textile factory. It is also done to restrict supply to competitors, hence a greater market share, revenues and profits. Comes two of the most iconic movies of this generation and many more generations yet to come. Two life changing films that should, wait... no... that need to be in the Cannes Hall Of Fame. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I present to you, the heart pounding, the mind racing, the soul touching... FORREST GUMP AND LITTLE FISH Little Fish and Forrest Gump are both majorly socially and culturally significant with their portrayals of everyday life struggles, whether that s in Australia or around the world, such as drug abuse and violence in mundane suburban areas and the struggles of normalities and abnormalities as well as racism, sexism and marginalization of the eras and societies of which these two mind reeling movies are set. The impact of these two epic tales socially and culturally on audiences watching these films is astounding, they make you think about the abuse, violence, marginalization, racism etc. going on in the world and possibly your back yard so to speak. The actors, specifically Tom Hanks(Forrest Gump) and Cate Blanchett (Little Fish), put you in their characters shoes and make you think and feel as their character would in their situations and journeys through life. • 8. Monotheistic Religion In The Paleolithic And Neolithic Period Paleolithic: The Paleolithic period lasted from about 200,000 b.c. to about 10,000 b.c. It was the early phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed a steady development of stone tools, antler and bone artifacts, engraving on bone and stone, and paintings on the walls of caves and rock structures. There was not much structure built or agriculture done in this period as the people lived a nomadic lifestyle, migrating with the herds of animals they hunted for food. Neolithic: The Neolithic period lasted from about 9000 b.c. to about 8000 b.c. It was the last phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed the domestication of animals, the development of agriculture, and the manufacturing of pottery and textiles. During this period people were beginning to settle and develop a more sedentary way of life. With this type of life style came territorial issues, meaning that because of the idea of settling and claiming land people would be more likely to protect it or fight for it. Monotheism: The basic definition of monotheism is the belief in one God. The opposite of polytheism, which is the belief in many Gods, who each serve a different purpose. However, for a monotheistic religion, the God is all knowing, all seeing and all powerful; this God would be the sole creator and provider. There are three major religions associated with monotheism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Olmecs: This civilization prospered from about 1600 BCE to 3500 BCE. • 9. The Elements Of Style By William Strunk Jr. William Strunk Jr., an English professor at Cornell University in 1919 required his students to have the textbook The Elements of Style, written by William Strunk Jr. himself. It was referred to as the little book and was a forty three page summary of the case for cleanliness, accuracy and brevity in the use of English (Strunk White, 2000). These rules are in the form of sharp commands, shining light on Sergeant Strunk s personality and approach to teaching. E.B. White, a former student of Strunk, revised the book he was given, years after his professor passed away. White does not soften the direct orders of the original book, but preserves the flavor of his discontent while enlarging the scope of the discussion (Strunk White, 2000 xiv). The Elements of Styleprovides the readers with a convenient reference for grammar, while emphasizing the importance of omitting needless words, using concrete language and active voice all in a suitable design. When he delivered his oration on brevity to the class, he leaned forward over his desk, grasped his coast lapels in his hands, and, in a husky, conspiratorial voice, said, Rule Seventeen. Omit needless words! Omit needless words! Omit needless words! (Strunk White, 2000, xv). Strunk provides an image for the most important aspect of his book. The repetition of this rule throughout the entire book, proves not only the importance of it to Professor Strunk, but to writing as a whole. The author s advocate trimming ... Shamefully Mann s World Concert and Comedy Show will be the first live gospel performance I have ever attended. However, I didn t know what to expect. Even more embarrassing I m not as savvy in the gospel genre as I should be. The only songs that I have heard the Mann family perform were the songs they performed with Kirk Franklin and the Family and the popular ones that play on the radio. I glanced around the auditorium and it appeared to a full house. The audience had several nationalities ready to enjoy a night of gospel music. There was a deejay table off to the side entertaining the crowd as everyone arrived at their seats. The stage had band instruments towards the back of the stage with a deejay table in front of them. The lights were beautiful; they displayed various scenes and sceneries throughout the show. First to arrive on stage was David Mann Jr. He walked out and headed towards the deejay tables that were center stage. His energy and music selections pumped the crowd up and had everyone ready to party. The lights on the stage had a party appearance and holograms of a dancer. The Purpose Of The Keirsey Temperament Sorter Test Purpose The Keirsey Temperament Sorter Test and others like it, such as the Myers Briggs Test, are meant to measure types and aspects of one s personality based on a series of opinionated questions. These sorts of tests are meant to show individuals what their personality types are, as well as the careers that would fit their personality types the best. Developed by Dr. David Keirsey, the test sorts participant into four major groups based on their personality results: artisans, guardians, rationals, and idealists. These groups are then narrowed down into narrower categories based on the Myers Briggs system results for separate personality types. These results are meant to reveal a person s true character and temperament. The Keirsey Test is greatly based on human behavior, so it is essentially measuring the daily behaviors of participants and sorting them into different personality types, or temperaments. The test also helps to evaluate a person s character through the opinionated questions within the test. The opinionated approach of the test makes it a decent measure of a person s character, but only if the participant is fully open and honest about his true self within the test, rather than being the person that they wish to be when answering the questions. Many have reported findings that these personality tests have low validity in their results (Dakin et al., 1994). Because so much accountability on the participants end is required for this test, the integrity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since they are young and immature they rush into decisions they make. They also take drastic measures in the decisions and how to handle themselves. After gaining independence, Indonesian politics began the old order era marked by the rule of its first president, Soekarno. During this time, the new state adapted the Dutch budget system, which was highly centralized and consisted of two sim plified groups income and expenditure, without a system of checks and bal ances by level or part of government. Religious Philosophies and the Meaning of Life All throughout history philosophers, politicians, and religious leaders have pondered the meaning of life. 20th century philosopher Albert Camus found that it Western society was far too focused on substance rather than understanding that it is the search for actualization or the process as opposed to the destination that provides the true meaning of life (Camus, 1942). Still others, Friedrich Nietzsche, for instance, found that it was suffering in its literal sense, or the process of undergoing, that defined the meaning of life. This was the ultimate search for freedom and actualization intellectual and emotional satisfaction (Nietzsche, 2004). Taking this view further, it seems as if the 21st century as brought the challenge of overcoming one s base instincts and striving for more, to be any kind of a person, one s life must have a unity to it, the continuity and coherence which comes from constructing one s life as a work of art (Young, 2003, 117). Karl Marx called religionthe opiate of the masses, in that it both numbs and comforts people, but really leaves them in a perpetual state of confusion and falsehoods. Yet it is primarily religion that humans turn to when facing questions about the meaning of life. It is interesting, too, that this idea of the meaning of life has ingrained in so very many parts of culture popular, spiritual, and philosophical. Moreover, this paper will examine how these philosophies affected the course of social, economic, and civilizational process. Private Property and its Relation to Government and Society Locke saw the ownership of property an important natural rights, as well as fundamental to a good government and society. He believed that all citizens had a right to life, liberty, and property , if they had the means to attain it (SOURCE). He discusses his theories of property in the Second Treatise of Government. He said that God gave man the earth to hold in common. However, once man adds labor to the earth it becomes their private property. When a man plows a field, for example, it becomes his and so too do the benefits (or the fruits) of this land. • 31. Composer Franz Schubert As A Master Composer Of Songs Viennese composer Franz Schubert is often regarded as a master composer of songs. He is also known for creative and unexpected movement between keys in his compositions. Dying at a tragically young age, Schubert managed to release an enormous body of works, publishing over two hundred songs while alive. Despite this already impressive output of songs, nothing stopped Schubert from composing symphonies, chamber music, and solo works as well. Close analysis of his music reveals how skillfully Schubert was able to set text, move fluidly to foreign keys, and much more. In this paper, Schubert s vocal piece entitled ErlkГ¶nig and his work for solo piano, Moments Musicaux 5 in F minor, will be explored more deeply The text in ErlkГ¶nig begins and ends with a nameless narrator. He opens, setting the scene, a father rides with his sick child in the night, racing to a nearby farmhouse to get help for his son. Schubert s repeated octave staccato triplets suggest the hoofbeats of the important fifth character, the horse, the vehicle of hope and deliverance; the four minutes of his song convey the urgency of a ride against an indistinct but baleful force (Bamforth). During the ride, the son recounts his hallucination of the Erlking, the king of the elves, chasing them to his father. The boy says the Erlking is promising the boy him, games, even his daughters, but his father tries to calm him, sying these are only wind rustling in the leaves and silhouettes of willow trees. The Iditarod is a race in which dogs are forced to run over 1000 miles from Anchorage to Nome within a period of eight to sixteen days. This distance is equivalent to the distance between NYC and Miami. The race began in 1973, and since then, over 140 dogs have died (Molidor). This number does not include the dogs who have died after the race or in the kennels because this information is not released. Sporting events like the Iditarod are abusive to dogs in the name of entertainment and need to be discontinued or seriously reformed. To understand how the Iditarod originated, we have to step back in time. The Iditarod was founded by Joe Redington for two reasons. The first was to keep the tradition of sled dogs alive because snowmobiles were becoming a more popular form of transportation in Alaska. The second reason was to protect the historic Iditarod Trail. Circulation Of Cell-Free Dna Case Study Among massive methods for diagnosis of cancer, detection of cell free DNA (cfDNA) is distinguished from others by noninvasiveness and satisfactory sensitivity and specificity, potentiating its application in clinic. However, a thorough understanding of cfDNA in pathobiology and clinical use is still required. This review summarizes previous studies regarding liberation of cfDNA into circulation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1. Biology of cfDNA 1.1 Origin Although the concept of cfDNA has been raised since 1948, mechanisms leading to the appearance of cfDNA in blood are still not clearly known. However, it was found that cell death is the major origin of cfDNA.[6] Apoptosis and necrosis of nucleated cells can contribute to the generation of cfDNA. Apoptosis is a controlled process of cell death and leads to a fragmented nuclear genome visualized by a nucleosomal ladder.[7] On the other hand, cell necrosis is an uncontrolled release of cellular contents. Therefore, they present differences in the size of DNA fragments released. Moreover, cfDNA can also derive from living cells by a poorly understood mechanism of active release. 1.2 Existent forms and Transporting mechanisms Cell free DNA (cfDNA) is defined as the DNA presenting extracellularly and freely circulating in the bloodstream, which can exist in several forms, namely unbound DNA fragments, nucleosomes, vesicle bound DNA and virtosomes,[8] illustrated in figure 1. 1.2.1 Unbound DNA fragments Free DNA fragments are unbound by any molecule or surface. However, for three years, he has been overwhelmed by suitors, who have taken over his house. Odysseus was never able to show Telemachus how to stand up for himself. Telemachus has been less than passive when going about doing things to get what he wants. When Athena comes and tells him that his father is going to come home, he realizes he has been ignoring what he knows is wrong, such as the suitors throwing parties every night, and that he needs to stop them. He doesn t have any idea of how he is going to find his father when Athena comes, but he along his way finds that he has many resources and connections at hand that will allow him to find out what happened to his dad. Athena, disguised as Mentor, an old friend of Odysseus, encourages Telemachus to talk to Nestor. Telemachus, no more shyness, this is not the time!/ We sailed the seas for this, for news of your father // So go right up to Nestor.../ / Press him yourself to tell the whole truth:/ he ll never lie the man is far too wise (3.16 22) Here, Athena is encouraging Telemachus to be assertive, to get what the needs to know to find his father. Telemachus responds, How can I greet him, Mentor, even approach the king?/ I m hardly adept at subtle conversation./ Someone my age might feel shy, what s more,/ interrogating an older man. / (3.23 27) He is intimidated. The irony is that he himself is of the higher class, and if Odysseus had been home, he would be accustomed to these interactions. This is Odysseus learning that he has high social status and can enjoy the privileges he was born with, such as being able to talk to the king. While there, Telemachus learns of the fate of the family of Agamemnon. Agamemnon came home to find his wife in love with Aegisthus, and together they kill him. Orestes, one of Agamemnon s sons, avenges his father s murder and kills ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Philosophy Of Epicurus, Epictetus, And Aquinas Through the works of Epicurus, Epictetus, and Aquinas, it is evident that their philosophies inherit a great deal of virtue. Although roughly specified, virtue is implanted within their different ideologies. From achieving happiness, stoic beliefs, and in respects to Christian idealism, virtue turns out to be the driving factor in determining the ideal meaning of life from the perspective of each philosopher and it gives them their value. Backed by firm evidence, it is notable that virtueis more apparent in the Thomism philosophy. The philosophy of Epicurus sought virtue as a condition of serenity in the soul. According to his thought, Epicureanism is centered in the achievement of happiness through the elimination of one s desires, and on pleasure and virtue claiming that It is impossible to live pleasantly without living wisely and honorably and justly (Epicurus, Doctrines, 1). This signifies that pleasure and virtue are interdependent and both sustain the concept of this ideology. To achieve happiness, one must do its best to live as virtuously as possible if they are to live a pleasant life. Pleasure is declared as the beginning and end of the happy life and by nature the greatest good (Epicurus, Doctrines, 13). This is so because living a life of pleasure means pain is absent and therefore makes life meaningful. Reason and virtue play an important role in the Epicurean notion of pleasure, leading the wise man to choose a simple life and rational action above ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Gnoffo (2005), by the end of 2004, Forrester Research estimated there were TiVos and other DVRs in 6.5 million US households, up from 1.9 million in 2002. That number, the firm claims, will climb to almost 50 million by 2009, representing 41% of all US households. On another front, the popularity of Netflix, an online subscription service boasting 3 million users, prompted both Blockbuster and Wal Mart to offer similar services whereby people rent DVDs for an unlimited time for a monthly fee. While it s true that DVDs may be a cash cow for studios, theaters suffer when patrons skip the cinema experience and wait for those releases at home. Needless to say, given the increase in entertainment options, the movie going experience needs to be far more compelling to draw in audience members. Moreover, this challenge is not likely to subside, but rather grow more compelling: as discussed by Charny (2005), a recent study by Informa Research Services indicates that 125 million people about 5% of all cell phone owners will be watching television on their handsets by 2010. In addition, the Digital Lifestyles 2006 Outlook from Parks Associates (Scherf, 2006) estimates that US consumer spending for online entertainment, including on demand gaming, music, and video services, will grow by ... The Representation Of The Society Through Art Chinese Literature Student Name Institution Affiliation Chinese Literature Throughout the human revolution, the representation of the society through art has been a common phenomenon. On the advent of literary skills of writing, people could represent their world better than before. However, the artists were only allowed to present the social ideas in the acceptable or the classical ways. Unfortunately, this traditional method of conveying knowledge or ideas was limited and somehow unrealistic of what was truly happening in the community. The language had to be polished and altered to fit the social standards. Nevertheless, as the traditional forms of leadership shifted slowly from the feudal to more democratic ones,... Interestingly, Xun starts this story by using classical writing when introducing the sane friend but totally switches to vernacular when writing the content of the madman. The vernacular use enables the author to speak of the society as it is, using the very words that are employed in the society. Therefore, this makes his work more realistic. Furthermore, the themes that the author employs are authentic as well. Through realism writing movement, Xun criticizes the four thousand years old feudal Chinese system which has perpetuated human cannibalism. Through an insane man, the author exposes the real tribulations that everyday people go through and have come to perceive it as part and parcel of their lives. Also, Xun uses characterization to bring out the issues that would be considered uncomfortable in such governance. Therefore, the madman character, who has the social freedom to say anything and is more likely to be ignored, enables Xun to agonize the feudal system injustices. Apart from characterization, Xun employs symbolism and hyperbole in his work. In A Madman s Diary, the author uses cannibalism to symbolize the feudal Chinese system, which for thousands of years has enabled the wealthy to further benefit off the poor. As a result, the gap between the poor and the rich would never be bridged. Through the diarist, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
