Improving Existing Sites For New Infrastructure Development
Introduction
Globalized populations heavily rely on ecosystems but allow non ecosystem services to take priority.
In the past hundred years human and ecological systems have undergone large transformations due to
globalization and weathering affects. The world s most valued resources are becoming increasingly
scarce. The growth in population has changed the supply and demand of both ecosystem and non
ecosystem services (Cumming, 2014). Urbanization has created a trend of creation rather than using or
limiting resources. New infrastructure development continues and has become priority opposed to
improving existing sites or providing to those with out any means of structure at all. The ever evolving
changes within the climate introduce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Topsoil continues to be eroded away, while water is wastefully used because the source seems so
abundant. As globalization values an economic stance, considering vital resources in monetary
amounts can allow for further conservation. In an attempt to place greater value on these necessities,
considering resources as ecosystem services places a monetary value on natural sources.
Background
The preservation of ecosystems resources is essential to sustain and provide for life forms. Both soil
and water are rich, complex ecosystems, which support living and non living matter. Soil plays a great
role in supporting large concentrations of people on the planet (Montgomery). It has played a part in
helping society to progress through infrastructure development and agricultural growth however can
determine the faith of modern civilization. The existence of soil is essential if human activity is to
continue. Human activity adds a wide variety of substances to the environmental, which soils can
decompose. Soil plays a central role in the management, processing and detoxification of natural and
human created waste. In soil countering the actions of humans, it is continuously under appreciated.
To sustain life forms including human populations water is heavily relied on. Water appears to be an
abundance source however; little conservation is had for the commodity. There are no alternatives to
the source yet saving the resource is not an action deeply practiced

What Are The Arguments Against Pro Life Defense
Gillian Torchia
Mr. Lowry
English9h 6
7 February 2016 Defense for the Defenseless In 2008 there were 1.21 million abortions performed in
the United States. That is three thousand three hundred and twenty two abortions performed each day
(Guttmacher Institute). The topic of abortion has been a heavily talked about topic for the past few
years. There are two sides of the issue, pro life, which is against abortion and pro choice, which is for
abortion. Abortion should not be legal because it is a scientific procedure, it is currently supported by
law, and deprives fetuses of a future like ours. One of the main arguments against the pro life
movement is that the fetuses that are being removed are not humans and therefore do not have basic
rights. When human sperm penetrates a human ovum, a zygote is formed. A zygote is undeniably
human because it composed of human DNA that is unique from both the mother s and the father s
individual DNA. From this, it can be concluded that abortion operations affect more than just the
mother and her rights, it now includes the rights of the fetus. Also, the human zygote fulfills the
scientific definition of an organism. The human embryo is a complex structure of independent
elements designed to carry on the activities of life by separately functioning but mutually dependent
organs. The human zygote also fulfills the four main categories of biological life: growth,
reproduction, reaction to stimuli, and metabolism. Reaction to stimuli

How Does David Moody Use Stereotypes In Tv And Race
For as long as television has been around, racial stereotyping has plagued our screens. Most common
representations of racial relations lay within sit coms who take basic and common stereotypes and
create whats known as Black situation comedies and Black humour. David Moody s chapter The
Complexity and Progression of Black Representation in Film and Television and Sasha Torres
Television and Race both focus on Black sitcoms and their argument is that sit coms rely upon racial
stereotyping for their coloured characters and the term race as turned from a problem to another
commodity for networks. Black sitcoms attempt to show a perspective of Black American life, they
mainly focus on Black family structures and the struggles associates with Black family life. The
stereotypes used in this situation comedies range from bad parenting, drug abuse and poverty and

Both David Moody and Sasha Torres relatively state that we live in an, image based culture that has
from the beginning of entertainment oppressed the image of African Americans to, lazy, irresponsible
coons. 2 This representation started decades ago when theatrical performances and skits known as
minstrelsy were performed by Whites in Blackface. These performances became very popular and
thus, branded African Americans in a derogatory, problematic manner that are still are being used in
todays television. Present day shows like Black ish, Empire and Fresh off the Boat have been targeted
by critics saying the depictions of characters promote demeaning and damaging images to the,
progression of a positive self identity for both Asian and Black Americans. 3 These types of shows as
well as other Black situation comedies have repeatedly presented African Americans in disturbing and
misleading images which have become the norm in film and television. This has created a Black
iconography that have resulted in White American having predetermined

A Changing Lifestyle At The Age Of Thirty
A Changing Lifestyle
At the age of thirty, I am still trying to find my place in the world. I have moved in and out of my
parents home several times, and each time I have learned important lessons about life. Gaining
independence is often a long and difficult struggle. At the age of nineteen, I moved out of my parents
house. Becoming independent for the first time was great. My first apartment was small; it had a one
bedroom, and my rent was affordable. When I moved in to the apartment, I smelled the fresh paint on
the walls, I see that it had two windows and carpet that felt soft on my feet. I had an old neighbor that
lived next door to me to whom I started to become friends. His named was Joe and we would always
set around talk and have strawberry cheesecake. Ponderosa Steak House was where I was working
when I lived on my own. I worked there four years both baker and cook person. Unfortunately, not
everything went smoothly. Before long, my roommates and I were partying too much. My friends that
I had enjoyed partying, and I often joined them. We would hang out at my place all night. We drank
alcohol, watched movies, sat around talking, and went out to other friends house. I hung out with my
friends every weekend. I fell in love with the wrong person whom I dated for four years. My ex s
boyfriend was also in to alcohol. We were drinking all the time; however, we would fight on a regular
basis. I had to move back into my parents house in order to get myself back on my

Modern Technology and It s Effects Essay
Argumentative essay
In our present society, people cannot deny that the changes in this world have been tied to the
advancement of the technology. It has evolved with this society so deeply where such conveniences
are no longer luxuries but rather necessities. Unfortunately, the most affected group of people from the
developed technology is the younger age people (Subrahmanyam, 2000). In the past, children were
more lively and active: playing outdoors, running around, climbing trees and remaining active rather
than watching television and playing video game and computer. It is true that the use of the
technology has its own virtue. It provides value, convenience and entertainment, but it should not take
the place of movement and realistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This kind of fats increases the level of cholesterol that could develop problems of heart, joints and
spinal cord (Journal of obesity, 2005). Afterwards, the impact of this problem can lead children to
more intense psychological and medical issues, which can have future reaching effects even into
adulthood (Pitman, 2008). According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2004, 16
percent of children in the ages of 6 19 year old are overweight or obese which could really have a
great chance of developing Type II Diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol and blood pressure
(Obesity, 2011). In addition, technology can expose children to a number of other physical risks:
seizures, hand injuries and changes in heart rate (Subrahmanyam, 2000). Obviously, those of the
raised problems above are the developed negative health problems that come from the overused of
technology in the children s daily life.
The second reason why modern technology contributes to negative health problems is that children
independently use technology, which impact on their social development and relationship. As the age
of the kids, the majority of them still cannot control or understand how to limit themselves from their
wants. Some children spend so much time playing computer and video games all alone that they are
losing their ability to socialize with others, families and friends. Children can averagely spend six
hours each day watching television or

Eurice Kennedy Shriver Research Paper
In 1962, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of John F. Kennedy, started Camp Shriver on her farm in
Maryland. This turned into what we know today as the Special Olympics. Shriver also did a lot of
other work to benefit the lives of many people with intellectual disabilities. But before all of that, she
was born in 1921 and grew up in Brooklyn, Massachusetts along side her eight brothers and sisters.
She went on to attend college at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California where she received a
Bachelor of Arts degree. One of Eurices sisters, Rosemary, was born with a mild mental retardation.
Rosemary had brain surgery to try and help her condition, which ended up making it worse. This had a
big impact on Eurice and her family. Because of this, Eurice was very exposed to people with
intellectual disabilities while growing up, which is what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

work in social justice. During that time she ran a juvenile agency, worked inside a prison to learn more
about prisoners, and worked with people who were released from prison, even inviting some of them
to live in her home. She then moved to Chicago and worked in the Chicago Juvenile Court. Up until
her death on August 11h, 2009 at the age of 88, Eurice continued to work with individuals with

The Civil War And The 19th Century Essay
The 19th century was one of the most troubling times in human history. Things like the civil war, child
labor and even slavery helped shape the literary culture from 1850 1900. The civil war was a war
fought between the Northern and Southern States in the United States of America. Among the 34
states in January 1861, seven Southern slave states individually declared their secession from the
United States of America and formed the Confederate States of America. The first state to secede was
south carolina after the election of president lincoln in 1860. After South Carolina seceded, the cotton
states of Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas followed, seceding in January
and February 1861. Union and Confederate leadership and fighting soldiers on both sides believed that
slavery caused the Civil War. Union men mainly believed the war was to emancipate the slaves.
Confederates fought to protect southern society, and slavery as a part of it. Sectionalism refers to the
different economies, social structure, culture and customs and values of the North and South. While
the south based their economy off of slave labor and plantation agriculture, the North was urbanizing,
industrializing and had feigned slavery out of existence. Southern slaveholding states, because of their
low cost labor, had little need for industrialization. While the North highly invested in its
industrialization, could not compete with the industries of Europe in offering high prices

Essay Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works
Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works
By examining Shakespeare s treatment of familial ties in his plays The Life and Death of King John
and The Winter s Tale, we can see how his attitudes and opinions towards family relationships
evolved. In King John (written between 1594 and 1596), Shakespeare adopts what was then a fairly
conventional attitude towards family relationships: his characters never question the highly patriarchal
family hierarchy. They also assume that the majority of wives will be unfaithful, simply because they
are female however, they take the charge of adultery rather lightly. By contrast, in The Winter s Tale
(written between 1610 and 1611), he adopts a much more progressive, feminist view of family ...

Their conversation disturbingly resembles a sinner s confession to her priest. She tells Robert, Heaven
lay not my transgression to my charge! (1.1.256). He replies by assuring her, And they shall say, when
Richard me begot,/ If thou hadst said him nay, it had been sin./ Who says it was, he lies; I say twas not
(1.1.274 76). This obviously highlights the power differential between the Lady and her son.
The most vivid example of King John s patriarchalism is found in the character of John s niece
Blanche. Her entire life rests on the men in it, namely, King John and Lewis the Dauphin. King John
marries her to the Dauphin, because, as Eleanor advises him, For by this knot thou shalt so surely tie
Thy now unsured assurance to the crown
That yon green boy shall have no sun to ripe
The bloom that promiseth a mighty fruit (2.1.471 474).
After Blanche s marriage, Lewis uses her claim to the throne as the fault was hers / Which fault lies on
the hazards of all husbands/ That marry wives (1.1.118 20). No one contradicts either of them.
Additionally, when Constance and Queen Eleanor begin to argue, they accuse each other of infidelity
and call each other s sons bastards. All of this shows that in King John, women were assumed to be
less faithful than men.
Despite the fact that wives adultery undermines the entire family structure by calling a man s heir s
legitimacy into doubt,

For Lew Welch In A Snowfall
In Gary Snyder s For Lew Welch in a Snowfall and For/From Lew, expression is important. It is the
light that hues both pieces as real and relatable. Taking a delicate approach in his description of
suicide and the after affect it had on him, makes the reader remember a time that may have been
similar. As a result, empathy is aroused, thus, recreating an image that may be almost too real to be
remembered. In this way, both pieces work together brilliantly and leave an impactful impression.
However, as individual pieces, both poems hold strong messages that cannot be asserted if they were
indefinitely coupled. Personally, For Lew Welch in the Snowfall is my favorite of the two. I have not
had any experience with suicide, nevertheless, I found much truth through my own interpretation. ...

At first glance, it simply sounds like a random phrase, but what makes the difference is the colon. The
colon is the preface to a description, and a memory. This is important because, from the very
beginning, Snyder evokes nostalgia through word choice, immediately broadening his audience. His
first line sets the stage for remembrance for all of his readers, allowing them to be cowriters with him
as he writes. To put it simply, Snyder finds the heart and begins to pull on its strings. Next to follow is
a reflection of his heart. After the first line, Snyder proceeds to acknowledge his friend. I sit in the
white glow reading a thesis/ About you. Your poems, your life (2 3). These few lines carry an air
similar to namaste, a word often used in the yoga practice, taken to mean, the light in me, sees the
light in you. Gary Snyder is commemorating his friend s past and present existence. He s taking a
moment to recognize the light that once was and still exists in his thesis and, more closely, in Snyder s

Treasury Bonds And The National Debt
Daniel Hysinger
US Treasury Bonds and the National Debt
The U.S. Treasury bond is a low interest way for the government to borrow money. The bond, along
with Treasury notes and bills, form the Securities which the Federal government borrows from lenders
for a set amount of time. Issued by the Department of the Public Debt, a subset of the US Treasury,
they are usually issued in 30 year maturities which pay interest twice yearly. Because the debt
obligation is backed by the tax generating, money printing, and understandably trusted government of
the United States, bonds are generally considered to be a safe or virtually no risk investment. Thanks
to this low risk attribute however, bonds are regarded as very low yield security, which is exactly why
it is a good instrument for the United States government to employ, as long as it can turn a relatively
decent profit on the initial investment. According to the September 30th, 2014 report of Monthly
Statement of the Public Debt of the United States, the amount of Treasury Bonds outstanding totaled
$8,167,759 million, I ll call it roughly $8.2 trillion. This number composes the majority of the
combined $12.7 trillion of US Treasury securities outstanding. These securities outstanding are also
known as the national debt. The numbers listed above, and throughout this paper will disregard debt
being owed to intra governmental holdings of the US, as bonds make up a minuscule (in comparison,
only $7.6 million) fraction of what they

Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
Robert Frost is known for his layering poetry that includes unique characters for the audience to enjoy.
He, always wants to reach for a more complicated vision, one arrived at after much pain, much
sucking up of passive, reflected beauty (Panini 235). This quote about Frost suggests that his writing
flourishes in the face of uncomfortable subject matter, a quality most ordinary people do possess.
However, Frost is not trying to steer the audience toward his way of thinking, he is simply telling us
that the characters we sense in the text will have bold personalities, also known as persona. An
illustration of this writing strategy is present in Frost s poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy
Evening, from the 1928 collection, West Running Brook. Here, Frost creates a good example of a
Rubaiyat stanza that is broken into four sections totaling sixteen lines. From the moment we meet the
narrator, we are aware that his persona is suspicious, from his inspections of the winter surrounding, to
the focus on his odd behavior and the final reminder of a plan. What Stopping by Woods on a Snowy
Evening deeply concerns is found in the fresh behaviors and subtle hints that the narrator presents to
the reader. Due to Frost s skillful delivery of narrator s persona in this poem, the topic of suicidal
thoughts is presented to the audience in an attempt to create awareness about this life threatening
condition. In a strategic move by Frost, he presents us with an unreliable

The City Of A Mid Size City
The crosswalk in this city is typical of a mid size city. Small businesses line the busy street, and with
people eager to get to their destination, a combination of sights, sounds and smells unites to form this
crosswalk.
This city s intersection is lively with the commonplace sights of businesses, people and vehicles. On a
sunny and breezy afternoon, three Eastern and Western based businesses, on the far left, line up one
after another vying for attention from potential patrons. In the middle, the sidewalk is filled with an
array of people. At the forefront of the sidewalk there are three people that are on the edge of the
crosswalk. To the left, a medium build, middle aged white female with long black hair is about to
cross the crosswalk. She is wearing black shoes, a black dress and a white short sleeved blouse. Some
people would refer to this as business casual. Around her neck is a lanyard that appears to be carrying
an identification badge. She is holding a rolled up, brown lunch bag in her left hand. While on her cell
phone, she walks forward and looks downward as to shield her eyes. During her walk, her hair is
grazed by the wind. In the middle of the sidewalk, a thin, elderly white man with a gray beard man is
the focal point of the picture. He is wearing a brown fedora, thin framed eyeglasses along with a
brown coat, gray pants and black dress shoes. His eyes are gazing forward as if he just locked eyes
with someone from afar. Coincidentally, his body

could have done differently, instead of sending a child to time out or to the corner; we will redirect
them to another activity. Maintaining program administration is keeping parents informed of
expectations of the program, activities, the child s progress and any incidents or accidents that may
have occurred during the day. One way to maintain the program is by having a daily schedule in each
classroom. Having a daily schedule with allow the teacher, parent, and child know what is going on
throughout the day. There will be a time for snack and lunch, recess, math, science, reading, writing,
circle time, potty training, etc. Children do better when they have a schedule to follow, having a
schedule means that the classroom is not chaos the entire day. Performing other duties may be filing
paperwork, cleaning dirty diapers, and moping the floor, anything besides teaching but still keeping
the children in a safe and clean environment to learn in.

Technology In Modern Society
Did you know that the average person in this day and age spends nearly 3.9 years of their entire life
using some sort of electronical device? In today s modernized society, we are greatly influenced by the
uses of what technology has to offer. Not only does it play a key role in most of our lives, but it has
revolutionized the way we actually live. Simply look around you and the chances are you will be
faced with a wide array of different electronic technologies that have taken over the way we live. The
use of modernized technology is something rather new, but it is here to stay for years to come. This
being said, in today s society, we are simply not mentally capable of understanding the true evils of
what the use of technology has in storage for us.
Technology has drastically changed throughout the years. From beginning with simple tools, to the
current creation of mega powered modernized computers capable of endless possibilities and the list
goes on. Whether or not one believes in all this technology is hard to say. But one thing is certain,
technology has and will continue to control our lives for hundreds upon hundreds of years to come
unless we can make a change. But the odds are,we will never change. The problem with technology is
that it makes life so much easier. From contacting someone across the world in a matter of minutes
with a couple clicks to controlling the minds and privileges of nearly half of the world s population by
simply making it rather easy to

The Open Door Policy
The Open Door policy is an policy that allows open ports in a county to any other countries that is
under the policy. It protected countries to easy trade with each other and relations between different
countries were formed. The person that made the Open Door policy was U.S. Secretary of State John
Hay and he sent the policy to Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and Russia. This policy
shape how America created foreign policy in East Asia. But not all the countries John Hay sent policy
like this. Germany, France, and Russia were against the policy because they would not have benefited
from it. Great Britain, Japan, and the U.S. supported the policy because them benefited from it. This
policy helped started trade with China.

Making Rule Changes For The Safety Of Our Athletes
As Commissioner of the National Quidditch League, I have come to the conclusion to make rule
changes to insure the safety of our athletes. The NQL is one of the country s most popular and highest
revenue leagues. We have a duty to uphold ethical standards to set a good example for our young fans.
In conversations with doctors, players, owners, and some fans, the league office has decided to enact
some new policy changes. The most important policy changes enacted are that all players must now
where helmets, a new concussion protocol, and players who intentionally target opposing players will
be at risk for fines and suspension. Some may feel that the character of the game is being threatened
by these new rule changes. However, the safety of our athletes is much more important. We are
confident that these new changes will further demonstrate why the NQL is one of our country s most
popular leagues. Lastly, as a league we can no longer claim to display integrity if allow the head
injuries to continue.
The league office has taken various factors into account, as we considered enacting rule changes
designed to reduce head injuries. First and foremost, we engaged in dialogue about whether any rule
changes would threaten the sole of the sport. We came to the conclusion that these rule changes would
not damage the sport, and would only legitimize it further. Secondly, we talked officials from other
leagues regarding their changes in sports. Our league has experienced similar

1) We came up with the different tickets prices by analyzing the different locations of the seats and the
different benefits that come with the tickets. The right behind the hitter tickets will cost about $97.00
due to the fact that you get to see all of the field and the different plays. The seats right behind the
dugout will be the second most expensive with a price of $86.00. The people who sit behind the
dugout will have a great view of the different players during the game. The next ticket price is for the
field side reserved seats which will be sold at $58.00. These sits will be located next to the dugout
seats and right next to the field. The stadium will also consist of our field view seats which are $39.00.

We accomplished this by using different pricing strategies. One of our pricing strategies is the cost
based pricing. This is the most used pricing strategy. Cost based pricing is when you take the cost of
product plus the cost of doing business plus our projected profit margin. This allows us to get the
regular price of the tickets. Our next pricing strategy is the demand based pricing. This is where the
ticket sellers determine what customers are willing to pay and set the price accordingly. This pricing
strategy results in a great ticket for an affordable price. Therefore, more people will want to buy the
tickets. Our final pricing strategy is the competition based pricing. This is where we determine if we
want the price above, below, or in line with the competition. This allows the ticket prices to vary
depending on the competition in the market place. Overall, all of these pricing strategies help revamp
the ticket sales for our team and bring in more profit. We also derived the different ticket prices by
analyzing the different field location and where the best views of the game are. Our stadium provided
many magnificent areas for our fans and customers to join together and watch an amazing baseball
game. The seats which are closer to the field cost more than the ones which are located on our sky
levels. This type of pricing would be considered prestige pricing, because this is using higher than
average price to suggest exclusiveness, status, and prestige. Our pricing policy is the one price policy
for different seat sections. We also used price lining because we out the seats into different categories.
We also produced many different affordable options for our customers to choose from, such as the
option to choose to sit in general admission for an awesome low price of only $11.00. We also used
different pricing techniques. An example of this would be the discount pricing. Discounting pricing

Vindolanda s Impact On The New Roman Cursive
Is a Roman fort continuously built atop one another until the decline of the Western Roman Empire
and is a major archaeological site located North of England, in the county of Northumberland, and
was one of the major forts south of Hadrian s Wall. It is connected to other forts through a major road
system called Stanegate Road that was built even before the wall, and is still very much extant up to
this day. The fort served as a defensive position at the frontier of the Roman occupied Britain from
around AD 85 to AD 410 against the unruly tribes in the North (Reeves 51). Vindolanda demands that
it be protected and preserved for the incredible amount of history and preserved artifacts, like the
wooden tablets with the transcribed words of earlier peoples, buried underneath the fort that once
sheltered soldiers, commanders, slaves and common people offering a glimpse into the everyday lives
of people who lived then. The name Vindolanda in Latin means white field, which provides clues to
archaeologists in that the site was built on what used to be an agricultural area or farm. Theoretically,

Roman Cursive. Additionally, he posits that a popular script existed alongside the two scripts which

missing after going on a bike ride together. The police and community began searching the woods and
surrounding areas. A few days later, the three boy s bodies were found in a river. The boys were
bound, had multiple injuries and died from drowning. Investigators believed this to be the result of a
sacrifice from a satanic cult, and immediately had a suspect. June 3rd, investigators arrested Damien
Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Miskelley. By March 18th 1994, Damien, Jason and Jessie were all

Jessie s first confession was given on June 3rd. He cooperated with police, and gave a full statement
about his involvement along with Damien Echols and Jason Baldwin. Jessie then recanted his
statement, claiming that he was coerced by police and fed the information. After being interviewed
again, Jessie went back to his original statement of being an accomplice, and even drew a picture of
the crime scene. He recanted again, with the same claim of being manipulated by investigators.
Unfortunately, his statements were used against him, Damien and Jason. During the trial, Jessie s
defense pointed out that he suffered from intellectual disabilities. Jessie dropped out of school, and
when given an IQ test, scored at a third to fourth grade level, 72. It is believed that Jessie s confession
was false, and that he was fed information by investigators that interrogated him. Not only did he
recant his original confession, but even at trial he was unaware of some facts of the case. There were
several bits of information that Jessie did not know, such as shoelaces being used to bound the boys,
or that the murders occurred at night. Jessie testified that rope was used to bound the boys, and that
they were killed during the day. Those who believe the confession was accurate, including
investigators, refute the claims of coercion, as Jessie did confess to the crime twice, and

Detections With The Multiplex Potential Of The MAP System...
Currently, there are limited options available for point of care diagnostic testing, and none with the
multiplex capability potential of the MAP device. Rapid diagnostic tests and thus efficient and near
real time surveillance and response are essential for timely and comprehensive decision making. For
example, confirmatory testing of DENV requires virus isolation, often inaccessible, or multiple visits
to a physician, which may be impractical for a variety of reasons. As was seen in the recent Ebola
outbreak, rapid segregation of malaria and viral hemorrhagic fever cases is essential for containing the
spread of the disease. The MAP device can provide lab results within the hour, enabling enhanced

For example, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs are recommended for managing pain and fever
associated with chikungunya and leptospirosis, but are contraindicated for dengue fever due to the risk
of hemorrhage. Leptospirosis and malaria are treatable with antibiotic or antimalarial medication.
Without this treatment, patient prognosis declines. Rapid identification of malaria cases in an outbreak
of viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) will protect those cases and can help build confidence in the
healthcare system, and rapid identification of VHF cases can help prevent large scale outbreaks.
While the MAP is useful in a clinical setting, it is designed to perform equally well in an austere or
field setting. Because of its compact design, long battery life, reagent stability, and user controlled
cloud connectivity, the MAP can allow field and forward operating units to diagnose and treat
personnel without a large infrastructure and communicate diagnoses for personnel returning to
healthcare facilities. In an outbreak or other public health emergency, it can facilitate rapidly screening
military personnel as well as local populations. In these situations, cloud connectivity allows for rapid
data aggregation and analysis, improving situational awareness and a proactive approach to
containment. The small volume of blood required and protected lancet lowers the risk of infection for
medical personnel from that of traditional venipuncture.

Catheter Malpositioning Case Study
Catheter malpositioning (I)
Our findings indicate that the use of the right internal jugular approach has the lowest incidence of
extrathoracic catheter tip positioning compared with the use of the external jugular or subclavian
routes. The present study has high statistical power and includes more right IJV cannulations
compared with previous smaller similar studies (Padberg 1981; Eisenhauer 1982; Sitzmann 1985;
Mansfield 1994; Yilmazlar 1997; Gladwin 1999; Molgaard 2004). These factors could possibly
explain our lower incidence of catheter malpositioning. The less straight intravascular route of
subclavian vein, EJV or left IJV catheters may partly explain their higher incidence of malpositioning
of the catheter tip. Further, although statistically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reports of vascular perforations during use of soft polyurethane catheters are rare, although Duntley et
al. described eight patients with pleural effusions, detected some days after insertion of subclavian or,
in one case, internal jugular venous catheter (Duntley 1992). In one of these patients, the catheter tip
seemed radiographically to be in an extravascular position at the time of clinical diagnosis. The pleural
space in each patient was nevertheless filled with the solution intended for parental nutrition. In only
one case, there was a return of blood through the catheter, possible indicating that most catheters were
placed into the pleura immediately at central venous cannulation, possibly following guide wire
induced vascular injury. Vascular perforation may often be attributed to immediate cannulation
associated injury (Kalen 1991; Robinson 1995), and most morbidity from vascular CVC perforation is
due to infusion of fluid into pleura or pericardium (Duntley 1992; Collier 1995; Walshe 2007),
although avoidable by careful aspiration of blood, or (if no blood can be obtained) chest X ray with iv
contrast injection, before clinical use. Since any central venous catheter appropriately, according to
tradition, positioned within the SCV could be associated with vascular perforation knowledge

The Salem Witch Trial
Many assumptions have been made by historians to explain the occurrence of the Salem witchcraft
trials, and on why the afflicted girls behaved the way they did, but yet there still seems to remain a
sense of doubt on this issue. It seems that this case is not just because of one factor such as Ergotism,
but several more. The affliction started by mind suggestion. The early beliefs and superstitions in
Puritanical society that were practiced on an everyday basis supported the idea that the behaviors and
physical conditions of the afflicted girls were the evil works of the witches, and the Devil. Among
many Puritans, this belief becomes a fear, and then this fear becomes like an additional topping that
adds up to causing convulsive hysteria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Choking is unusually common: there are cases of arc de cercle, and the hysteric s ability to induce
bruises or welts on the skin may well explain some of the teeth marks (Davidson Lytle 33). These
symptoms of Convulsion Hysteria seem to be similar to the symptoms of bewitchment . For example,
the afflicted girls often accused their tormentor for strangling on their throats, which is relevant to
choking sensation in Convulsion Hysteria. Since the people at that period did not have much
knowledge on Medical science and health, and had to often rely on natural herbs and witch doctors,
not only must have Hysteria occurred, but there must have been other health related issues that might
have affected the way the afflicted girls behaved. Ergot poisoning can be a possibility. The convulsive
symptoms that can be a result of consuming poisonous ergot contaminated rye bread must have been
the cause of girls being bewitched. Rye is a common grain which was heavily relied by the Puritan
society during that time, and the important part of it to highlight is that it was contaminated with the
fungus (Ergot). It is most likely to grow in damp conditions. Variations in weather are therefore crucial
for its growth. In New England, Rye was often grown when wheat crops were devastated by rust.
Consuming Ergot causes hallucination and suffocation, which might have been interpreted at that time
by the Puritans as being tormented or possessed by the

Examples Of Realism In To Build A Fire
Realism is defined as accepting something or a situation as it is. Realism can be compared in the all
three of these stories. One story being fictional and the others based on factual evidence. Realism
shows the truth in each novel and its up to the readers or the main character to accept the challenge put
in front of it. Jack London wrote To Build A Fire to show the literary conflict of man versus
nature.Sadly, the man never realizes the reality of his environment and it leads him to his death. When
he ran through the freezing cold water his body reacted as so written, He was losing in this battle with
the frost. It was creeping into his body from all sides. Mentally, he couldnt believe how much of a fool
he was acting. He thought he can overcome the battle of below fifty degrees weather. On the other
hand, the dog could handle the hostility of the environment and realized the man wasnt going to make

The Han Art Analysis
In ancient times, art was often made to become a burial object for the tomb of a respected individual.
The Chinese are apart of this tradition and this mingqi or spirit object of a dog belongs to the religious
concept of following the deceased into the afterlife. The artist of Mingqi (standing dog) is unknown
but the period of the artwork falls around 250 to 200 BCE, during the Han Dynasty. Though much is
unknown or undefined about this work, the visual components reveal the aim behind the artist s
choices. The Han artist focuses on the media, ceramic techniques, and composition to fulfill the role of
a protection vessel.
Mingqi (standing dog) is a clay figurine of a dog standing on all fours. The dog s mouth is agape and
the ears point upwards. The clay has carved eyes and whiskers while a harness and curled tail remain
raised. Beneath the tail, a circular hole is present while a less intentional hole lies underneath, on the
stomach. Intact green glaze coats the upper part of the sculpture while the clay is visible on the lower
body of the dog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Primary focuses on health promotion and protection against specific health problems or health risks.
Primary prevention precedes disease or dysfunction and is applied to generally healthy individuals or
groups. Examples include: Immunizations; risk assessments for specific disease i.e. diabetes; health
education about injury and poisoning prevention.
Secondary focuses on early identification of health problems and prompt intervention to alleviate
health problems. Goal is to identify people in early stages of disease process and to limit future
disability. It is curative in nature. It emphasizes health maintenance for people with health problems
(i.e. someone with diabetes who has it under control). This level includes prevention of complications

Teenagers And The Young Adult Chart
Teenagers are the most perceptive individuals in every society they are just learning and experiencing
the real world without yet developing the mask and filter of adults; they see things how they are, and
they say things the way they are. They still have the innate curiosity of children without the apathy
that seems so rampant among those who actually have the power to change. This is why it is so
important to know how teenagers view the world, because they will be making up the world in a few
decades. There is no better way to know how they think than by examining the literature they read.
Over the past few years, dystopian novels have topped the young adult charts. It is easy to just write
off the similarities between teenage aimed novels as just a standard story writing formula for making
money. However, by looking deeper into what these similarities really mean, we can learn that these
stories are similar for very important reasons. As Utopian scholar Lyman Tower Sargent s states, It is
particularly important that we understand the dreams and nightmares that are directed at children and
young adults (Hintz Ostry, 234). First, we need to take a look at what dystopian fictions are, by
definition. According to Aristotle, author of the Poetics, all forms of art perform mimesis. Epic poetry
and tragedy, as also comedy, dithyrambic poetry, and most pipe playing and lyre playing, are all,

In the past hundred years human and ecological systems have undergone large transformations due to globalization and weathering affects. The world s most valued resources are becoming increasingly scarce. The growth in population has changed the supply and demand of both ecosystem and non ecosystem services (Cumming, 2014). • 3. What Are The Arguments Against Pro Life Defense Gillian Torchia Mr. Lowry English9h 6 7 February 2016 Defense for the Defenseless In 2008 there were 1.21 million abortions performed in the United States. That is three thousand three hundred and twenty two abortions performed each day (Guttmacher Institute). The topic of abortion has been a heavily talked about topic for the past few years. There are two sides of the issue, pro life, which is against abortion and pro choice, which is for abortion. Abortion should not be legal because it is a scientific procedure, it is currently supported by law, and deprives fetuses of a future like ours. One of the main arguments against the pro life movement is that the fetuses that are being removed are not humans and therefore do not have basic rights. When human sperm penetrates a human ovum, a zygote is formed. A zygote is undeniably human because it composed of human DNA that is unique from both the mother s and the father s individual DNA. From this, it can be concluded that abortion operations affect more than just the mother and her rights, it now includes the rights of the fetus. Also, the human zygote fulfills the scientific definition of an organism. The human embryo is a complex structure of independent elements designed to carry on the activities of life by separately functioning but mutually dependent organs. The human zygote also fulfills the four main categories of biological life: growth, reproduction, reaction to stimuli, and metabolism. Reaction to stimuli ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

David Moody s chapter The Complexity and Progression of Black Representation in Film and Television and Sasha Torres Television and Race both focus on Black sitcoms and their argument is that sit coms rely upon racial stereotyping for their coloured characters and the term race as turned from a problem to another commodity for networks. • 7. A Changing Lifestyle At The Age Of Thirty A Changing Lifestyle At the age of thirty, I am still trying to find my place in the world. I have moved in and out of my parents home several times, and each time I have learned important lessons about life. Gaining independence is often a long and difficult struggle. At the age of nineteen, I moved out of my parents house. Becoming independent for the first time was great. My first apartment was small; it had a one bedroom, and my rent was affordable. When I moved in to the apartment, I smelled the fresh paint on the walls, I see that it had two windows and carpet that felt soft on my feet. I had an old neighbor that lived next door to me to whom I started to become friends. His named was Joe and we would always set around talk and have strawberry cheesecake. • 9. Modern Technology and It s Effects Essay Argumentative essay In our present society, people cannot deny that the changes in this world have been tied to the advancement of the technology. It has evolved with this society so deeply where such conveniences are no longer luxuries but rather necessities. Unfortunately, the most affected group of people from the developed technology is the younger age people (Subrahmanyam, 2000). In the past, children were more lively and active: playing outdoors, running around, climbing trees and remaining active rather than watching television and playing video game and computer. It is true that the use of the technology has its own virtue. It provides value, convenience and entertainment, but it should not take the place of movement and realistic ... According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2004, 16 percent of children in the ages of 6 19 year old are overweight or obese which could really have a great chance of developing Type II Diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol and blood pressure (Obesity, 2011). Obviously, those of the raised problems above are the developed negative health problems that come from the overused of technology in the children s daily life. The second reason why modern technology contributes to negative health problems is that children independently use technology, which impact on their social development and relationship. As the age of the kids, the majority of them still cannot control or understand how to limit themselves from their wants. • 11. The Civil War And The 19th Century Essay The 19th century was one of the most troubling times in human history. Things like the civil war, child labor and even slavery helped shape the literary culture from 1850 1900. The civil war was a war fought between the Northern and Southern States in the United States of America. Among the 34 states in January 1861, seven Southern slave states individually declared their secession from the United States of America and formed the Confederate States of America. The first state to secede was south carolina after the election of president lincoln in 1860. After South Carolina seceded, the cotton states of Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas followed, seceding in January and February 1861. Union and Confederate leadership and fighting soldiers on both sides believed that slavery caused the Civil War. Union men mainly believed the war was to emancipate the slaves. Confederates fought to protect southern society, and slavery as a part of it. Sectionalism refers to the different economies, social structure, culture and customs and values of the North and South. While the south based their economy off of slave labor and plantation agriculture, the North was urbanizing, industrializing and had feigned slavery out of existence. Southern slaveholding states, because of their low cost labor, had little need for industrialization. While the North highly invested in its industrialization, could not compete with the industries of Europe in offering high prices ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Essay Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works By examining Shakespeare s treatment of familial ties in his plays The Life and Death of King John and The Winter s Tale, we can see how his attitudes and opinions towards family relationships evolved. In King John (written between 1594 and 1596), Shakespeare adopts what was then a fairly conventional attitude towards family relationships: his characters never question the highly patriarchal family hierarchy. They also assume that the majority of wives will be unfaithful, simply because they are female however, they take the charge of adultery rather lightly. By contrast, in The Winter s Tale (written between 1610 and 1611), he adopts a much more progressive, feminist view of family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their conversation disturbingly resembles a sinner s confession to her priest. She tells Robert, Heaven lay not my transgression to my charge! (1.1.256). He replies by assuring her, And they shall say, when Richard me begot,/ If thou hadst said him nay, it had been sin./ Who says it was, he lies; I say twas not (1.1.274 76). This obviously highlights the power differential between the Lady and her son. The most vivid example of King John s patriarchalism is found in the character of John s niece Blanche. Her entire life rests on the men in it, namely, King John and Lewis the Dauphin. King John marries her to the Dauphin, because, as Eleanor advises him, For by this knot thou shalt so surely tie Thy now unsured assurance to the crown That yon green boy shall have no sun to ripe The bloom that promiseth a mighty fruit (2.1.471 474). After Blanche s marriage, Lewis uses her claim to the throne as the fault was hers / Which fault lies on the hazards of all husbands/ That marry wives (1.1.118 20). No one contradicts either of them. Additionally, when Constance and Queen Eleanor begin to argue, they accuse each other of infidelity and call each other s sons bastards. All of this shows that in King John, women were assumed to be less faithful than men. Despite the fact that wives adultery undermines the entire family structure by calling a man s heir s legitimacy into doubt, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Taking a delicate approach in his description of suicide and the after affect it had on him, makes the reader remember a time that may have been similar. As a result, empathy is aroused, thus, recreating an image that may be almost too real to be remembered. In this way, both pieces work together brilliantly and leave an impactful impression. However, as individual pieces, both poems hold strong messages that cannot be asserted if they were indefinitely coupled. Personally, For Lew Welch in the Snowfall is my favorite of the two. At first glance, it simply sounds like a random phrase, but what makes the difference is the colon. The colon is the preface to a description, and a memory. His first line sets the stage for remembrance for all of his readers, allowing them to be cowriters with him as he writes. To put it simply, Snyder finds the heart and begins to pull on its strings. Next to follow is a reflection of his heart. After the first line, Snyder proceeds to acknowledge his friend. I sit in the white glow reading a thesis/ About you. Your poems, your life (2 3). These few lines carry an air similar to namaste, a word often used in the yoga practice, taken to mean, the light in me, sees the light in you. • 14. Treasury Bonds And The National Debt Daniel Hysinger US Treasury Bonds and the National Debt The U.S. Treasury bond is a low interest way for the government to borrow money. The bond, along with Treasury notes and bills, form the Securities which the Federal government borrows from lenders for a set amount of time. Issued by the Department of the Public Debt, a subset of the US Treasury, they are usually issued in 30 year maturities which pay interest twice yearly. Because the debt obligation is backed by the tax generating, money printing, and understandably trusted government of the United States, bonds are generally considered to be a safe or virtually no risk investment. Thanks to this low risk attribute however, bonds are regarded as very low yield security, which is exactly why it is a good instrument for the United States government to employ, as long as it can turn a relatively decent profit on the initial investment. According to the September 30th, 2014 report of Monthly Statement of the Public Debt of the United States, the amount of Treasury Bonds outstanding totaled $8,167,759 million, I ll call it roughly $8.2 trillion. This number composes the majority of the combined $12.7 trillion of US Treasury securities outstanding. These securities outstanding are also known as the national debt. • 15. Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening Robert Frost is known for his layering poetry that includes unique characters for the audience to enjoy. He, always wants to reach for a more complicated vision, one arrived at after much pain, much sucking up of passive, reflected beauty (Panini 235). This quote about Frost suggests that his writing flourishes in the face of uncomfortable subject matter, a quality most ordinary people do possess. However, Frost is not trying to steer the audience toward his way of thinking, he is simply telling us that the characters we sense in the text will have bold personalities, also known as persona. An illustration of this writing strategy is present in Frost s poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, from the 1928 collection, West Running Brook. Here, Frost creates a good example of a Rubaiyat stanza that is broken into four sections totaling sixteen lines. From the moment we meet the narrator, we are aware that his persona is suspicious, from his inspections of the winter surrounding, to the focus on his odd behavior and the final reminder of a plan. What Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening deeply concerns is found in the fresh behaviors and subtle hints that the narrator presents to the reader. Due to Frost s skillful delivery of narrator s persona in this poem, the topic of suicidal thoughts is presented to the audience in an attempt to create awareness about this life threatening condition. • 30. Crimes After Interrogation On May 5th 1993, three eight year old boys, Steven Branch, Michael Moore and Chris Byers, went missing after going on a bike ride together. The police and community began searching the woods and surrounding areas. A few days later, the three boy s bodies were found in a river. The boys were bound, had multiple injuries and died from drowning. Investigators believed this to be the result of a sacrifice from a satanic cult, and immediately had a suspect. June 3rd, investigators arrested Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Miskelley. By March 18th 1994, Damien, Jason and Jessie were all convicted of the murders of the three boys. Many issues arose during the investigation and trial, which was highly publicized and documented by HBO. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jessie s first confession was given on June 3rd. He cooperated with police, and gave a full statement about his involvement along with Damien Echols and Jason Baldwin. Jessie then recanted his statement, claiming that he was coerced by police and fed the information. After being interviewed again, Jessie went back to his original statement of being an accomplice, and even drew a picture of the crime scene. He recanted again, with the same claim of being manipulated by investigators. Unfortunately, his statements were used against him, Damien and Jason. During the trial, Jessie s defense pointed out that he suffered from intellectual disabilities. Jessie dropped out of school, and when given an IQ test, scored at a third to fourth grade level, 72. It is believed that Jessie s confession was false, and that he was fed information by investigators that interrogated him. Not only did he recant his original confession, but even at trial he was unaware of some facts of the case. There were several bits of information that Jessie did not know, such as shoelaces being used to bound the boys, or that the murders occurred at night. Jessie testified that rope was used to bound the boys, and that they were killed during the day. Those who believe the confession was accurate, including investigators, refute the claims of coercion, as Jessie did confess to the crime twice, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Detections With The Multiplex Potential Of The MAP System... Currently, there are limited options available for point of care diagnostic testing, and none with the multiplex capability potential of the MAP device. Rapid diagnostic tests and thus efficient and near real time surveillance and response are essential for timely and comprehensive decision making. For example, confirmatory testing of DENV requires virus isolation, often inaccessible, or multiple visits to a physician, which may be impractical for a variety of reasons. As was seen in the recent Ebola outbreak, rapid segregation of malaria and viral hemorrhagic fever cases is essential for containing the spread of the disease. The MAP device can provide lab results within the hour, enabling enhanced patient care and surveillance. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs are recommended for managing pain and fever associated with chikungunya and leptospirosis, but are contraindicated for dengue fever due to the risk of hemorrhage. Leptospirosis and malaria are treatable with antibiotic or antimalarial medication. Without this treatment, patient prognosis declines. Rapid identification of malaria cases in an outbreak of viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) will protect those cases and can help build confidence in the healthcare system, and rapid identification of VHF cases can help prevent large scale outbreaks. While the MAP is useful in a clinical setting, it is designed to perform equally well in an austere or field setting. Because of its compact design, long battery life, reagent stability, and user controlled cloud connectivity, the MAP can allow field and forward operating units to diagnose and treat personnel without a large infrastructure and communicate diagnoses for personnel returning to healthcare facilities. In an outbreak or other public health emergency, it can facilitate rapidly screening military personnel as well as local populations. In these situations, cloud connectivity allows for rapid data aggregation and analysis, improving situational awareness and a proactive approach to containment. The small volume of blood required and protected lancet lowers the risk of infection for medical personnel from that of traditional venipuncture. The ability to operate outside a ... • 36. Catheter Malpositioning Case Study Catheter malpositioning (I) Our findings indicate that the use of the right internal jugular approach has the lowest incidence of extrathoracic catheter tip positioning compared with the use of the external jugular or subclavian routes. The present study has high statistical power and includes more right IJV cannulations compared with previous smaller similar studies (Padberg 1981; Eisenhauer 1982; Sitzmann 1985; Mansfield 1994; Yilmazlar 1997; Gladwin 1999; Molgaard 2004). These factors could possibly explain our lower incidence of catheter malpositioning. The less straight intravascular route of subclavian vein, EJV or left IJV catheters may partly explain their higher incidence of malpositioning of the catheter tip. Further, although statistically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reports of vascular perforations during use of soft polyurethane catheters are rare, although Duntley et al. described eight patients with pleural effusions, detected some days after insertion of subclavian or, in one case, internal jugular venous catheter (Duntley 1992). In one of these patients, the catheter tip seemed radiographically to be in an extravascular position at the time of clinical diagnosis. The pleural space in each patient was nevertheless filled with the solution intended for parental nutrition. In only one case, there was a return of blood through the catheter, possible indicating that most catheters were placed into the pleura immediately at central venous cannulation, possibly following guide wire induced vascular injury. Vascular perforation may often be attributed to immediate cannulation associated injury (Kalen 1991; Robinson 1995), and most morbidity from vascular CVC perforation is due to infusion of fluid into pleura or pericardium (Duntley 1992; Collier 1995; Walshe 2007), although avoidable by careful aspiration of blood, or (if no blood can be obtained) chest X ray with iv contrast injection, before clinical use. • 37. The Salem Witch Trial Many assumptions have been made by historians to explain the occurrence of the Salem witchcraft trials, and on why the afflicted girls behaved the way they did, but yet there still seems to remain a sense of doubt on this issue. It seems that this case is not just because of one factor such as Ergotism, but several more. The affliction started by mind suggestion. The early beliefs and superstitions in Puritanical society that were practiced on an everyday basis supported the idea that the behaviors and physical conditions of the afflicted girls were the evil works of the witches, and the Devil. Among many Puritans, this belief becomes a fear, and then this fear becomes like an additional topping that adds up to causing convulsive hysteria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Choking is unusually common: there are cases of arc de cercle, and the hysteric s ability to induce bruises or welts on the skin may well explain some of the teeth marks (Davidson Lytle 33). These symptoms of Convulsion Hysteria seem to be similar to the symptoms of bewitchment . For example, the afflicted girls often accused their tormentor for strangling on their throats, which is relevant to choking sensation in Convulsion Hysteria. Since the people at that period did not have much knowledge on Medical science and health, and had to often rely on natural herbs and witch doctors, not only must have Hysteria occurred, but there must have been other health related issues that might have affected the way the afflicted girls behaved. Ergot poisoning can be a possibility. The convulsive symptoms that can be a result of consuming poisonous ergot contaminated rye bread must have been the cause of girls being bewitched. Rye is a common grain which was heavily relied by the Puritan society during that time, and the important part of it to highlight is that it was contaminated with the fungus (Ergot). It is most likely to grow in damp conditions. Variations in weather are therefore crucial for its growth. In New England, Rye was often grown when wheat crops were devastated by rust. Consuming Ergot causes hallucination and suffocation, which might have been interpreted at that time by the Puritans as being tormented or possessed by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One story being fictional and the others based on factual evidence. Realism shows the truth in each novel and its up to the readers or the main character to accept the challenge put in front of it. Jack London wrote To Build A Fire to show the literary conflict of man versus nature.Sadly, the man never realizes the reality of his environment and it leads him to his death. When he ran through the freezing cold water his body reacted as so written, He was losing in this battle with the frost. It was creeping into his body from all sides. Mentally, he couldnt believe how much of a fool he was acting. He thought he can overcome the battle of below fifty degrees weather. • 39. The Han Art Analysis In ancient times, art was often made to become a burial object for the tomb of a respected individual. The Chinese are apart of this tradition and this mingqi or spirit object of a dog belongs to the religious concept of following the deceased into the afterlife. The artist of Mingqi (standing dog) is unknown but the period of the artwork falls around 250 to 200 BCE, during the Han Dynasty. Though much is unknown or undefined about this work, the visual components reveal the aim behind the artist s choices. The Han artist focuses on the media, ceramic techniques, and composition to fulfill the role of a protection vessel. Mingqi (standing dog) is a clay figurine of a dog standing on all fours. The dog s mouth is agape and the ears point upwards. The clay has carved eyes and whiskers while a harness and curled tail remain raised. Teenagers And The Young Adult Chart Teenagers are the most perceptive individuals in every society they are just learning and experiencing the real world without yet developing the mask and filter of adults; they see things how they are, and they say things the way they are. They still have the innate curiosity of children without the apathy that seems so rampant among those who actually have the power to change. This is why it is so important to know how teenagers view the world, because they will be making up the world in a few decades. There is no better way to know how they think than by examining the literature they read. Over the past few years, dystopian novels have topped the young adult charts. It is easy to just write off the similarities between teenage aimed novels as just a standard story writing formula for making money. However, by looking deeper into what these similarities really mean, we can learn that these stories are similar for very important reasons. As Utopian scholar Lyman Tower Sargent s states, It is particularly important that we understand the dreams and nightmares that are directed at children and young adults (Hintz Ostry, 234). First, we need to take a look at what dystopian fictions are, by definition. According to Aristotle, author of the Poetics, all forms of art perform mimesis.
