Grendel Archetypes Essay
Multiple people have examined the classic epic known as Beowulf, but few have examined the
modern novel, Grendel. This in depth story comes out of the mouth of the horrifying monster,
Grendel. This tale brings meaning to Grendel s life and experiences, but there lays meaning behind
some of the character placement as well. The characteristic effects in Grendel represent one, if not
many, of Jung s archetypes such as the persona, the shadow, and the anima.
In this case, Jung clarified persona as how a person presents themselves to the world. Grendel s
persona restricts only to that of a scary, threatening beast. At the sight of Grendel, the neighboring
villagers immediately take up arms and cower within their meadhall. When in the presence of these
villagers, the humanoid beast becomes a self absorbed fiend who devours anyone with a mind that
stands against him. One might argue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grendel never became enemies with the Scyldings until he sought out the route of this shadow, the
dragon. When the dragon says unto Grendel in the line, If man s the irrelevance that interests you,
stick with him! Scare him to glory! It s all the same in the end, matter and motion, simple or complex,
(Chapter 5, page 73) he tricks the human like beast into carrying out havoc on the villagers. After this
long, deadly confrontation with the fabled creature, Grendel always seemed to smell the evil presence
of the dragon. This smell made the monster go mad and his actions towards the Scyldings got to the
point of massacres. Some may think the winged lizard remained the source of the shadow, but it was
not the only thing that led to Grendel s actions. The Shaper, that seemed to enchant Grendel with his
songs, became another key part of Grendel s shadow. This shadow made it hard for Grendel to
continue to grasp the basic concepts of the

Interactions Between Robotics And Biology
Interactions between robotics and biology evolve two concepts. On one hand, biological ideas and
phenomena are shining creation in every technical sections in robotics including actuation,

Contemporary Issue in Health and Social Care
Contemporary Issue in Health and Social Care

Introduction
Social media has played and has been playing a crucial role in the development of health and social
care in United Kingdom (UK). Since the emerge of the health and social care sector, social media has
been performing a tremendous role as the health and social care is becoming an industry and without
this industry social and economic development of UK would not be possible. This report covers the
role of media for the development of health and social care. At the very beginning a snapshot of the
role of media on the creation of public concern about health and social care will be discussed with
evidence. The ways by which media publishes and considers about the ... Show more content on

Mass media has a strong liaison and this strong interpersonal relationship with different sources of
information results in an unveiling of health and social care related information to the public.
Common people are completely influenced by the information provided by the sources. As the sources
of information has been introduced in the previous section, it is state worthy that social and health care
information has changed the attitudes, thoughts, and behavior of common people. Mass media along
with social media make people much more aware about their health and safety issues (Godden, 2014).
For example:
Before the invention of Facebook, any movement that had to be taken place faced great difficulty. But
as Facebook grows and other mass media are getting concerned about the rights of them from the
society, any nonviolent movement is taking place without such effort than previously had done
(Mcclimens, et al, 2012).
People are conscious about various contagious diseases and much more aware about their contribution
to the society. They are also focused on their rights from the society. Their contribution to the society
and the benefits they are deriving from the society are summed to take them to a balancing position or
situation (AJOL, 2014).

Smallpox Research Paper
Smallpox
Smallpox is a highly contagious and fatal disease; there is no treatment available to smallpox, and the
only way to avoid this infection is through primary prevention measures of vaccination. Smallpox has
two clinical forms, variola major (most common) and variola minor (least common) with a fatality
rate of 30% and 1% respectively. Variola major has four types of smallpox, ordinary (accounts for
90% of the cases), modified (occurs in vaccinated individuals), hemorrhagic (severe and rare), and flat
or malignant (rare and fatal). Smallpox has been declared eradicated by the World Health Organization
(WHO) in 1980, and vaccination of the general public has stopped shortly after; nevertheless, it is an
agent of bioterrorism that is available in laboratory stockpiles worldwide (Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, 2004). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

chills, head and body aches, and vomit; then, the infected person becomes contagious. Afterward, a

contagious. After which, the rash develops to pustular rash, and the infected remains infectious. When
the pustules form a crust and then a scab, the infected continue to be contagious. It is only after the

Neil Macdonald s Article On The Issue With Canadian Politics
Neil MacDonald s article on the issue with Canadian politics is filled with the richest form of sarcasm
that pinpoints exactly how juvenile this topic truly is. In my article that I choose, MacDonald takes a
look at the issue of the nigab and other Muslim related topics and how the current Canadian politics is
strategically creating an invisible barrier between Muslims and Canadians. I will first start off with a
brief summary of the article followed by how Edward Said and Jasmine Zine discuss what is currently
happening with the niqab.
Summary: In MacDonald s article, The barbaric cultural practice of election pronouncements, he looks
at how the current Canadian political election has created this barrier between Muslims and
Canadians. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Said had looked into how the West had put a distinction to isolate the Orient from themselves. This
would have by usually putting them in a viewpoint as having more barbaric and savage values then the
West. This is clearly seen in the article that MacDonald had written. MacDonald finds that the current
Election has created a barrier making a distinction between Muslims and putting them as the outsiders.
In the article MacDonald finds that many times it is not just saying it bluntly rather it is quick jabs at
Muslims. [...] We were reminded by the immigration minister [...] that Canada now has something
called the Zero Tolerance for Barbaric Cultural Practices Act. (MacDonald, 2015) Of course, many
can argue that the immigration minister was not directly attacking Muslims and yet when one reads
the word barbaric, they connate help but think about the barbaric actions that happen almost everyday
in the Middle East. Although Said didn t directly look into gender orientalism he had made a great
point in his article when discussing how the West view woman in an Oriental society. [...] she never
spoke of herself, and she never represented her emotions, presence or history. He spoke for and
represented her. He was foreign, comparatively wealthy, male [...] (Said, Page 6). In this part Said is
discussing how Western men would

Root Rot Caused By M. Phaseolina
Root rot caused by M. phaseolina (a soil as well as seed borne fungus) is a devastating disease of
mungbean and causes serious yield losses. The present study has demonstrated that the fungus induced
severe root rot in mungbean cv. T 44 and exhibited significant decline in the plant growth and yield.
This has verified that the tested mungbean cv. T 44 was susceptible to the root rot fungus. Rotting of
tap root and presence of few lateral roots is the characteristic symptom of the disease. Because of few
lateral roots and root hairs, drying and withering of leaves occurs due to less water absorption. During
the initial stages of pathogenesis, the fungal hyphae penetrates the root epidermis which is restricted to
the intercellular spaces of the cortical tissues of the primary roots. Due to this, collapse of adjacent
cells occurs and heavily infected plantlets may die. Afterwards at the onset of flower, the mycelium
grow intracellularly through the xylem and plug the vessels [28, 29], produce toxins and several
enzymes [30, 31], and thereby disrupt host cells. Inoculation with M. phaseolina decreased the growth
and yield of mungbean by 32.1 45.5% and 36%, respectively.
Soil and seed borne nature of the pathogen creates problem for an effective management of the root
rot disease. Use of the chemicals is one of the best options for the management of plant diseases which
is quick as well as effective method. The present approach was to manage the root rot disease by using

Shirley Jackson Conformity
Benjamin Franklin once said, It is the first responsibility of every citizen to question authority . The
Lottery by Shirley Jackson, features a superstitious town subjected to a brutal and needless yearly
tradition. A lottery is held to choose a single townsperson, who then is surrounded by every man,
woman and child and stoned to death publicly. They believe that this gruesome act will somehow
ensure prosperity for the town and an abundant harvest. This story illustrates how hesitant people can
be to reject outdated ideas and a cautionary tale of the dangers of cultural conformity. There s always
been a lottery, (141) Old Man Warner states when Mr. Adams mentions other towns are giving up the
practice. This type of closed minded thinking, it s always been this way so why change now, is often
held in place by older ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The younger generation often questions old ideas, but are rebuffed despite new facts being discovered.
Come on, come on, everyone. (144) Old Man Warner urges and pressures the reluctant ones into an
act of group murder. He bullies the townspeople to not think about their actions, just conform. There
will always those who are threatened by change, but the combination of fear and illogical thinking is a
dangerous one. This tale cautions us to think about our actions before we become the one who casts
the first stone.
Shirley Jackson best summed up her writing style when she said, I delight in what I fear. Known for
her gloomy psychological horror stories, The Lottery , is a perfect expression of her fears and the
general publics at that time. Originally written in 1948, the world was still feeling horrified by the
bombs and concentration camps of WWII. Most were mystified by the spell Adolf Hitler had on the
minds of average people. Ms. Jackson is crafty in her storytelling, showing how horrors of this
magnitude could include and ensnare everyday people into

How Did Nietzche Contribute To Religion
Friedrich Nietzche was born in Rocken. He spent much of his time alone, reading the Bible. Nietzsche
s father died in 1849. The young man withdrew deeper into religion.
Friedrich received a scholarship to Schulpforta, an elite prepatory school with only 200 students, in
October 1858. The scholarship as intended to fund Nietzche s training for the clergy. His mother,
Franziska, and his young sister, Elizabeth, are dedicated to Friedrich s success, certain of his future.
At the age of 18,Nietzsche lost his faith in traditional religion. His faith received a fatal blow when he
found philosophy. In 1865 Nietzsche discovered Schopenhauer s World as Will and Idea. The work
forever challenged Nietzsche s view of the world. Schopenhauer s ... Show more content on

This time the army refused him due to his poor eyesight, in addition to his weak upper body.
Nietzsche found it possible to serve as a medic, allowing him as close to medicine as his nature would
ever allow. As he quickly learned, Nietzsche did not like the sight of blood, and the suffering of others
made him ill. He eventually fell ill, possibly due to stress, and was sent home.
The Birth of Tragedy out of the Spirit of Music was published in 1872. With the publication of The
Birth of Tragedy, Nietzsche returned to Baasle to lecture. The work became a subject of ridicule in
academic circles, but the nobility and nationalists loved it. Nietzsche became a celebrity, standing he
put to work on behalf of his friend Wagner. The two men were able to convince the government to
fund the construction of the Bayreuth theatre, which would feature Wagner s works.
The Bayreuth was completed in 1876. On August 12, 1876, the Emperor arrived to hear Wagner s The
Ring of Nibelung, a work Wagner considered his masterpiece. To his dismay, Nietzsche found he
hated the work. He made an excuse to depart, and promptly took a vacation to reconsider his opinion
of Wagner s music and Prussian culture in general. At least Nietzsche was not alone: the long multi
day performance proved a failure financially and in terms of attendance. Wagner s public star
faded...at least for a bit.
Physically and mentally, Nietzsche collapsed in 1879. He was certain death was near and even

Romeo And Juliet-A True Tragedy
Romeo and Juliet A True Tragedy A tragedy is defined as a play dealing with tragic events and having
an unhappy ending, especially one concerning the downfall of the main character (Google, 2016).
Shakespeare has deviously crafted Romeo and Juliet to become a famous tragedy alongside Titus
Andronicus. These plays fall into this category due to the character s fate, their flaws and thus creating
great sorrow. Romeo and Juliet is a battle of power and fate as two nemesis battle each other to
discover who reigns superior. Romeo and Juliet is a tale of fate, where destiny reigns superior. Romeo
and Juliet were born into two households, both alike in dignity (The Prologue, 1), where an ancient
grudge causes a family mutiny. This grudge destroys any chance of Romeo and Juliet becoming
husband and wife unless their family s relationships ameliorated. Nevertheless Romeo and Juliet
married clandestinely and were warned by the priest; Friar Lawrence that with These violent delights

discoloured by this place of peace? Romeo! O, pale! who else? What, Paris too? And steeped in
blood? Ah, what an unkind hour is guilty of this lamentable chance! (Act 5, Scene 3, 151) . Friar
Lawrence feels guilty as his plan has failed and has killed Romeo and Paris in the process. He says
this in disgust as Juliet is just beginning to wake, only to find her husband dead. This great sadness
overwhelms Juliet and she therefore takes her own life. This sadness touched many as Prince says; For
never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo (Act 5, Scene 3,

Reflective Reflection On Reflections
Reflections Thunder crashed all around making the ground shake. I was running late as usual, but this
time I was not sure what I was late for. The ground was uneven as I ran to my destination; whether
that was home or work I can not quite remember. Consequently, I just knew I needed to arrive there
and quickly. Thunder boomed again, but this time it was different. Ahead a flash of lightning struck,
blinding me, causing my eyes to close for a split second, then I felt a breath of air tickle my neck. I
shut my eyes tight, terrified to turn around as goose bumps crawled up my arms. Nevertheless, I

rapidly as the door spun out of control. I fell to my knees, overcome with fatigue and dizziness. When
it passed a new door stood in front of me though this time it was as tall as a toddler. Curious, I made
myself as tiny as I could wondering if I could fit. One arm made it through the door when suddenly
the sound of a chainsaw echoed throughout the hall. Too late I realized it was coming from the door. A
scream of agony escaped my mouth as the chainsaw penetrated my skin and slowly sawed my arm in
half. Stop! Please make it stop! I could not handle it any longer as the pain shot up my whole body.
Then, with a loud clunk my arm landed on the floor next to me. The pain from my arm numbed me to
the bone, tears streamed down my face finally turning into a waterfall of tears. Hmm. Melody, I like
the taste of that name, a silky voiced resonated around me. Twisting my head in the direction of the
voice I looked for the source but was unable to find one. W w who are you? I wailed. Nobody of

Health Care Cost Benefit Analysis
Federal health care costs continue to exceed the American economy fueled by federal health care law,
rising enrollments, and increased enrollee spending. The 2010 Affordable Care Act (ACA)
significantly changed federal health care policies in the key areas of insurance coverage, access to
care, medical care financing, and Medicare program operations. ACA provides good benefits to
Americans but comes with a 12.2% increase in cost to the federal government (Meyer, 2017). Health
care costs are projected to increase to more than $4 trillion dollars by the end of 2017 nearly doubling
since 2006 (Meyer, 2017). Economists project this trend to continue estimating a 6.9% increase
annually making it the single highest cost to the federal government (Edwards, 2017). The cost of
health care is approaching a crisis if unchecked will continue to grow. Congress has struggled to reach
consensus on a more efficient approach to managing health cares costs failing in 2017 to repeal or
replace ACA. They will need to reengage now to enact laws to stabilize this looming threat to the
American people. I recommend three changes to reduce the impact to federal debt. These changes are

The House Of Mirth And The Yellow Wallpaper Analysis
The House of Mirth and The Yellow Wallpaper: Gender Politics in the 19th Century The life of a lady
in the 19th century is painted in a romantic light. Pictured in her parlor, the lady sips tea from delicate
china while writing letters with a white feathered quill. Her maid stands silently off in the background,
waiting for orders to serve her mistress. What is not typically pictured, is the sadness or boredom
echoed on the lady s face. Perhaps the letter is to a dear friend, not seen in ages, pleading with the
friend to visit, in hopes that the friend will fill the void in the lady s life made from years spent in a
loveless marriage; or possiblyk20 the lady isn t writing a letter at all, but a novel or a poem, never to
be read by anyone but her. Edith Warton and Charlotte Perkins Gilman, are 19th Century ladies who
dare to share their writing with the world. Through their works, the darker side of a woman s life in
the late 1800 s is exposed. Gender politics in the 19th dictates that a lady is dependent on her husband
for her financial security and social standing; that is if she is fortunate enough to marry at all. In Edith
Warton s The House of Mirth, Lily Bart is a beautiful woman in her late 20 s, who fails to marry a
wealthy man. The narrator in Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper slowly goes insane
under her physician husbands misguided attempts to cure her of depression. The downfall of Lily Bart

Sleeping with the Enemy
In the movie Sleeping With the Enemy, Laura Burns, is living a life that many would describe as
perfect. Laura lives in a beautiful mansion on the coast with her handsome, wealthy husband Martin.
This wealth allows Laura the opportunity to stay at home rather than working outside of the home.
However, behind closed doors this perfect life is very different from what the outside world sees.
Laura is constantly being beaten, ridiculed, and criticized by her husband. Martin is obsessed about
keeping the house in perfect order. He is easily set off by simple things such as a towel being out of
line, or a can out of place in the cupboard. Upon him discovering that things are out of order, he
resorts to severely beating Laura. The only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of the reasons behind why Laura does things the way that she does, I believe that this
movie accurately portrays this issue that is faced by survivors of spousal abuse. However, one area
that I don t believe the movie touched on enough was the psychological problems associated with
survivors of spousal abuse. Walllace discusses that often woman suffer from such things as
posttraumatic stress syndrome, depression and other symptoms that inhibit their ability to function
within society. In addition the Department of Justice Canada states that abuse may affect virtually
every aspect of an abused person s life. It can harm their physical and mental health, their ability to
work, and their relationship with their children and loved ones In this movie Laura does not appear to
be suffering from such things, in fact she seems to be coping very well, with the exception of the not
trusting others, and not wanting to enter into another relationship. These mental issues are an
important part of spousal abuse that I feel should have been portrayed more in this movie, in order for
the audience to fully understand the wide variety of possible consequences of abuse. When looking at
how this movie portrays Martin, I believe that it covers some very common areas that can lead to
spousal abuse. First

Central American Gangs
The topic I chose to write about is Central American Gangs. Most of these gangs or problems that we
face with these gangs come from the Northern Triangle. The Northern Triangle is made up of three
countries, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Guatemala and Honduras currently being the most
dangerous out of the three. Many Countries have tried to intervene or help these countries but attempts
have proven to be of little use or no help.
The U.S. involvement with these countries began in 1951. Jacobo Árbenz was a military officer who
used his military forces to suppress laborers and take what he wanted. Hearing about this the current
U.S. President Eisenhower sent weapons to guerrilla groups in order to help over throw Árbenz. Fast
forward a few years and the Cuban revolution happens and results in Cuba becoming a communist
government. Around this time many of the guerrilla groups started disappearing but still remained
intact. Most people who have an opinion on the matter agree that supplying arms and providing aid to
these extremist groups was the starting point to forming the current gangs in Central America. We
made policy decisions that put short term prioritization of winning battles against insurgents and
people we considered communists over the long term stability of those countries, they are now living
the results. (Katel p.7). This quote sums up the idea the U.S had with their

Hemigrapsus Sanguineus Research Paper
Hemigrapsus sanguineus, commonly known as the Asian Shore Crab, has been a major player in the
evolution of certain defenses of New England bivalve molluscs. Mytilus edulis, the New England blue
mussel, has been directly impacted by the predation of the Asian Shore Crab. H. sanguineus is an
invasive species to the Atlantic coast of the United States. It first appeared in the southern New
England area in 1988, presumably by trade ships from the Western Pacific. It has since spread to the
south Atlantic and is still expanding slowly northward as well (Stokstad, 2006). Introductions to new
areas by humans allow for species who would never cross evolutionary paths to do just that. These
new interactions provide a new framework and environment for novel selection pressures to present
themselves. These strong selection pressures are a piece of the puzzle for the evolutionary change of

Native American Indian Analysis
Do you support the Cleveland Indians baseball team? Have you or a friend ever been a Native
American for halloween? If you have, you might be racist! American history is often presented in a
diminishing or reductive way to the eyes of the world. Even today, media and technology reinforce
these ideas by creating incorrect images of Native American history with sports teams, stereotypes,
and costumes for certain holidays. Some novels reject these ideas. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part
Time Indian, is a novel by Sherman Alexie, about a fourteen year old Indian boy, that shows the racial
issues surrounding modern Native American culture. Knowing the history and context surrounding
PTI deepens the understanding of critical events, themes, or issues with the novel by viewing Juniors
life through the knowledge of Native American history, colonialism, colonization, appropriation, and
assimilation. These ideas are scene through the eyes of Junior who is a Spokane Indian freshman
going to a predominantly white school. Colonialism and Assimilation are processes that have created

Astronauts and the Effects of Space
Astronauts and the Effects of Space Space, an unknown and endless abyss full of mystery and wonder.
A beautiful domicile that, as humans, peaks our curiosity. As the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat ,
when it comes to traveling to space, humans are slowly dying from their curiosity. Space is a
dangerous place, full of mental and physical altering effects. Astronauts, the deep sea divers of space,
must train for years to get use to the effects of space. Space is virtually the exact opposite than the
home we know as Earth. Humans, along with all organisms on Earth, were created on Earth for Earth
and when we dare explore a place without the same environment, we are asking for complications.
When a human is exposed to the vacuum of space, we die within minutes. Over the years scientists
have developed technologies that help protect us against the deadly features of space, but in reality it
only shields us from about fifty percent of all of the harmful effects. Weightlessness changes us
physically, while isolation alters us mentally. Space changes the life of any human including the way
we travel from place to place, our sleeping and eating habits, and the amount of exercise needed.
Traveling to space has many effects on humans both mentally and physically, which is why they
endure intensive training and need technology to survive, but even so, die slowly in its clutches.

Chinatown Essay
Chinatown
Before the 1960s, the era of the Civil Rights Movement and People of Color Movements, ethnic towns
were formed due to the anti ethnic legislation, which forced many people of color to live in certain
areas of the city. After the relaxation of some anti ethnic legislation, especially in residential
segregation, these ethnic towns changed. No longer are these ethnic groups forced to live in
segregated areas due to legislation, but rather because of economic and cultural survival due to the
resources that are found in these ethnic towns. Chinatown, Korea town, and Thai town are ethnic
enclaves that formed due to this process.

Furthermore, Pilipino immigrants are already fluent in English because of the Philippine educational
system. Due to this ability to speak English, many Pilipino Americans do not depend on ethnic
economies for survival.
During the 1920s, Pilipino Americans congregated along the streets of Main and 1st streets, in the
heart of Downtown Los Angeles adjacent to City Hall. This area was the site of many pool halls,
restaurants, barbershops, taxi dance halls, and hotels where Pilipinos congregated. This was the area
known as Pilipinotown, Southern California s version of San Francisco s Manilatown. However, in the
1930s, Los Angeles started the Bunker Hill Redevelopment Project. The city plan was to redevelop the
Civic Center, the Music Center, high rise hotels and office buildings in the area where Pilipinos
gathered. As a result, many of the earlier Pilipino Americans were forced to leave this area, a clear act
of racist gentrification. They were forced to move in the current site of the proposed Pilipinotown, just
west of downtown, around Temple Street and Beverly Blvd.
Due to the passage of the 1965 Immigration Act, many Pilipinos started to immigrate to the United
States in mass numbers as they did in the 1920s and 1930s. However, in contrast to the earlier wave of
Pilipino immigrants, these newcomers formed families. Additionally, this new flock comprised of
mostly middle class professionals. Thus, they were not as transient as the earlier working class

The Influence Of Student Habits And Student Athletes
For any college student, one of the most important things to be learned is good time management and
study skills. This becomes even more imperative when the student in question is an athlete and has the
majority of their day planned out for them. Being a student athlete comes with its own unique set of
challenges, including finding a way to balance the amount of time they allot to the sport they play and
to their studies. It is a common perception that student athletes spend less time and efforts on their
studies than the average college student, but it is not that simple. When considering whether or not
student athletes focus the appropriate amount of time on school work, it is necessary to take a deeper
look at why they focus on what they do, and some of the factors that influence an athlete and the
academic habits they have formed. If student athletes are focusing more on athletics, it would be
helpful to understand what drives them to do so; likewise, knowing why athletes are just as dedicated
to their academics as they are athletics could help pave the way for all student athletes in the future.
Most athletes that are more concerned with their academics have something or someone that influence
their academic habits. Influencing factors can include things such as needing to maintain a certain
GPA for their coach or a scholarship, or potentially that they use the drive they have developed as an
athlete off the court as well.

Hannibal’s Tactical Defeat of The Roman Army at Cannae Essay
The battle of Cannae, between the Carthaginian general Hannibal and the larger Roman army under
the command of consuls Lucius Aemilius Paulus and Gaius Terentius Varro, in 216 B.C., still serves as
one of the most influential tactical battles in history. Two enemy forces were to face off using very
different tactics. The Roman Empire had succeeded in amassing a staggering 50,000 or greater
number of infantry troops and a disputed 6,000 cavalry troops. The Roman army was to use its vast
numbers to subdue the smaller numbered forces of the Carthaginian army using sheer force. Hannibal

fighters. Hannibal used the fighting techniques to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his opponent to battle facing the heat of Italian sun and weighed down by the weight of their armor.
The Carthaginian army formed a similar formation.
According to (Cavazzi):
Hannibal first masked his moves as he drew up his army, by placing his light slingers and spearmen at
the front. Behind them, he positioned his Celtic and Spanish swordsmen in a crescent in the center. On
his left wing, he stationed his Celtic and Spanish heavy cavalry; on the right, he stationed his light
Numidia cavalry.
Both sides engaged their infantry forces in skirmishes at the center. Hannibal, familiar with the Roman
style of fight, knew the Roman elite would ride on the right. The Romans viewed their allies as not
being noble, and would not ride together with their partner. This allowed Hannibal to place his heavy
Celtic and Iberian cavalry on his left to face the Roman cavalry. Hannibal s cavalry outnumbered the
Romans and was able to annihilate them on the right side of their formation. The Roman infantry in
the center continued to engage Hannibal s forces. The repeated attacks on Hannibal s infantry forced
them from a convex to a concave formation. Roman leadership, anticipating breaking the Carthaginian
line, continued to push troops into the center. Roman

An Example Of Foreshadowing In The Leap
1. An example of foreshadowing in The Leap occurs when the narrator recalls her mother telling her
that she would be amazed at how many things a person can do within the act of falling . This
foreshadows their leap from the fire. Erdrich builds suspense throughout the story through multiple
references to falling and being saved leading to the expectation that something bad will happen to the
narrator. Erdrich also creates suspense through her use of words, such as describing the storm which
caused the death of Anna s husband as a deadly gale . 2. An example of contrast in the story is that
between the first time Anna makes a leap in order to protect the life of her unborn child, and the final
leap in which Anna saves the narrator from the fire. During the first leap, Anna makes a decision in the
attempt to allow her baby a full life; however, the child ends up dying only a few months later. In the
final leap, Anna once again must rescue her child, and this time succeeds in allowing her child a long
life. Erdrich is using contrast here to illustrate the importance in not letting past failures prevent her
from taking a risk. If she had let fear of failure prevent her from taking that chance again, her child

Heat and Iron
A clothing iron, also called a flatiron or simply an iron, is a small appliance: a handheld piece of
equipment with a flat, roughly triangular surface that, when heated, is used to press clothes to remove
creases. It is named for the metal of which the device is commonly made, and the use of it is generally
called ironing. Ironing works by loosening the ties between the long chains of molecules that exist in
polymer fiber materials. With the heat and the weight of the ironing plate, the fibers are stretched and
the fabric maintains its new shape when cool. Some materials, such as cotton, require the use of water
to loosen the intermolecular bonds. Many materials developed in the twentieth century are advertised
as needing little or no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to How Things Work in Your Home by Time Life Books, a heat control lever rotates a cam
that regulates the opening between the contacts located on the thermostat. A steam valve attached to a
vapor chamber located above the heating element opens up when the correct temperature is reached
and water enters the chamber and is converted into steam. From there, the water is converted to steam,
which exits from the soleplate at the bottom of the iron through the ports. On the top of the iron, a
pump draws water from the reservoir and sprays it through the nozzle.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
Most problems occur when an iron is either dropped, the cord is frayed or mineral deposits from hard
water clog the ports. Time Life recommends that irons be rinsed after use and a small brush used to
clean the ports. To clean the aluminum soleplate on the bottom of the iron, use a solution of one part
baking soda to two parts water on a cloth. Use a soapy scouring pad to clean steel soleplates.
Whichever type of cleaning method is used, dry the iron thoroughly. After heating it up over the
lowest setting, run the iron over a piece of wax paper and then a dry cloth, according to Time Life.
Irons with nonstick soleplates should be cleaned with a damp sponge or cloth to avoid damage to the
coating. Nicks can be buffed out with an emery board.
Cords should be replaced if the iron does not heat. This can be a do it yourself project, according to
Time Life;

Mars 1 Research Paper
1.0 Introduction
Looking back on the 50 years of space exploration history, Mars is consistently being discussed as one
of the most important target of study in this area. From the first mission, Mars 1M No.1 failed to reach
Earth orbit in 1960, till today s MAVEN team has been working on Mars for over one Earth year
(Space.com Website), Mars exploration experienced dozens of failures, especially in earlier days.
However, recently, missions are returning more and more surprising data as technology improved, and

poles, and they are mostly made up of solid carbon dioxide. Additionally, significant amounts of
hydrogen was found in the upper soils of Mars (Smith et al., 2011). If Mars is wet many years ago, it

in the family, I graduated with a degree in nursing making me a source of inspiration within the
family. Additionally, I will be the first to graduate with a master s degree in the family given this
opportunity. Besides, I wish to be a source of motivation and inspiration to many nurses who wish to
advance their nursing careers. It is through a demonstration of what is possible and mentoring them
through that I can make a positive change among fellow nurses. Since I graduated about three years
ago, I have worked with many patients and clients that require much of the required advanced nursing
skills that I seek. Equipped with such skills, I will be at a better position to adequately, competently
and confidently assist the adult patients and clients. In fact, nursing is a passion allowing me to serve
the community and at the same time be a light in someone s disease process darkness. I wish to live to
learn broadly, to serve others generously and courageously lead other fellow nurses. Since I graduated

Comparison of Mexico and Brazil Essay examples
Brazil and Mexico are both the giants of their geographic realms (de Blij and Muller 219,254).
Mexico constitutes an entire geographic region of Middle America (200). The country of Brazil is also
considered a single region in South America (239). Both of these regions have very large populations
in comparison to the other regions of their realms. Mexico s current population of 102 million people
has more than doubled in size since 1970 (219). Brazil s estimated population is currently near 167
million people (254). The populations of both regions are becoming increasingly more urban in

outside of Japan (254).
Despite the differences in their ethnicity, the populations of these regions are both highly urbanized. In
Brazil eighty percent of the population resides in urban areas (Microsoft Encarta). Nearly seventy five
percent of Mexico s people are urban dwellers (de Blij and Muller 220). The largest cities of these

The Pros And Cons Of The Democratic-Republican Party
In 1792, the world s oldest political party, the Democratic Party, was founded. During the presidency
of President Andrew Jackson in 1830, the party adopted its name as the Democratic Party as it is
known now. Prior to the renaming of the party, it was known as the Democratic Republican Party
founded by James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson in opposition of the Federalist Party. The
Democratic Party s purposed served to supported states rights and the strict interpretation of the
Constitution (Mayne, 1). Correspondingly, providing financial support to family based agriculture was
one of their main priorities (Mayne, 1). The Federalist Party, their opposition, consisted of wealthy
elites that strived, and fought for one strong all ruling national government, rather than state
governments. As the United States had just recently become independent, the Democratic Republican
Party was determined to prevent the United States from becoming a monarchy. Over the next century,
the Democratic Republican party began to split due to the lack of agreement on major ideas which led
to the current two party system. However, some ideologies remain the same such as moral stance, and
socioeconomic status. Other ideologies like economic view and stance on government power have
caused this split between the Democratic and Republican parties (Mayne, 22). It is imperative to
remember that even though these two parties are completely different, they originated from the same
party with one main goal; To create a government that is run for and by its people (Mayne, 23). I have
still not developed a political identity, but over the past three years of my residence in the United
States, I am more in favor of the Democratic Party and what they stand for. At first, the Democratic
Party started out as the conservative party and the Republicans were the liberals. However, over time,
the Democratic Party has associated itself with social liberalism. Social liberalism is a political
ideology which states that individual liberty requires social justice (DeMichele, 11). To be more
precise, social liberal values include: equal pay, importance of women s rights and healthcare rights,
pro safety, a progressive approach to taxation, and union

Analysis Of Dante s The Of Hell
The Crucial Role of Symbolism
I think Dante s description of Hell is a wonderful work of literature. Dante uses numerous literary
techniques to describe his vision of Hell to the reader. In my opinion, one of the most affective
techniques used by Dante is symbolism. It would be a very difficult task to compile a brief list of
significant symbols from the Cantos that we read in class. Dante utilized many symbols throughout
each canto. Some of the symbols that Dante used in Inferno are well defined and easy to interpret,
while other symbols are much more difficult to recognize and understand. For this paper, I will be
analyzing multiple symbols from Dante s Inferno. Some of the symbols came from the Canto s that
were included in class ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times while traveling through hell, Dante is found hanging back so he can talk to the souls about
their punishments or he remains behind due to his pity and fear for the souls in hell. During these
times Virgil has to repeatedly encourage Dante to stay on the path of the journey that they were
intended to travel on. The fact that Vergil has to lead Dante along is, in a way, motivating Dante not to
stray from the path of righteousness. The numerous stumbling blocks that threatened to interrupt
Dante s journey were not just physical barriers, but can be seen as agents of hell that threaten to keep
Dante from a pious life. Dante s deliberate journey toward heaven can also be looked at in contrast
with the pointless wandering signified by to and fro movement of many condemned souls that were in
hell. Theses souls have completely lost the path of righteousness and literally have no direction in the
afterlife. In contrast, Dante has the ultimate goal of reaching heaven in front of him and a motivating
force in Virgil, which gives a purpose and direction to his continuing journey.
Another symbol that occurs throughout The Inferno is the idea of light and dark. Hell is obviously
associated with darkness. Dante remarks many times about the darkness of hell and how some areas of
hell are completely

Commection In Art Appreciation
In Art Appreciation, chapter two mentions the purposes and functions of art. The functions of art that
are mentioned are: delight, commentary, worship/ritual, commemoration, persuasion, and self
expression. The function that stood out to me was commentary because this function of art allows the
artist to be expressive in his/hers work of art. Commentary is expressions of opinions rendered as an
art form to communicate with the viewers. Viewers also have a connection with the artists and the
artists work. Commentary can be about and event, person, or opinion. The first art work I chose was a
piece done from Diego Rivera in which Diego s interest at the time of the art work was about Cubism.
Diego Rivera s painting, Portrait of Adolfo Maugard, oil on canvas relates to Commentary as one of
the functions of Art. In figure one of the art work, the main focus of the painting appears to be the
person he painted and what surrounds the person. Rivera s portrait was of Adolfo Best Maugard.
Although the focus appears to be Maugard, the painting is not one point perspective. What surrounds
Maugard is also important in the work as the surrounding expresses perhaps a certain time in which
Rivera wanted to show. There is straight and perpendicular lines that create an overpass where
Maugard is standing. Figure one Diego uses modern colors like: red, orange, yellow, green, and
blue/gray. The geometric shapes for the the buildings, ferris wheel, and the train. He also uses a light

  • 3. Grendel Archetypes Essay Multiple people have examined the classic epic known as Beowulf, but few have examined the modern novel, Grendel. This in depth story comes out of the mouth of the horrifying monster, Grendel. This tale brings meaning to Grendel s life and experiences, but there lays meaning behind some of the character placement as well. The characteristic effects in Grendel represent one, if not many, of Jung s archetypes such as the persona, the shadow, and the anima. In this case, Jung clarified persona as how a person presents themselves to the world. Grendel s persona restricts only to that of a scary, threatening beast. At the sight of Grendel, the neighboring villagers immediately take up arms and cower within their meadhall. When in the presence of these villagers, the humanoid beast becomes a self absorbed fiend who devours anyone with a mind that stands against him. One might argue that ... After this long, deadly confrontation with the fabled creature, Grendel always seemed to smell the evil presence of the dragon. This smell made the monster go mad and his actions towards the Scyldings got to the point of massacres. Some may think the winged lizard remained the source of the shadow, but it was not the only thing that led to Grendel s actions. The Shaper, that seemed to enchant Grendel with his songs, became another key part of Grendel s shadow. This shadow made it hard for Grendel to continue to grasp the basic concepts of the ... I will first start off with a brief summary of the article followed by how Edward Said and Jasmine Zine discuss what is currently happening with the niqab. • 9. Root Rot Caused By M. Phaseolina Root rot caused by M. phaseolina (a soil as well as seed borne fungus) is a devastating disease of mungbean and causes serious yield losses. The present study has demonstrated that the fungus induced severe root rot in mungbean cv. T 44 and exhibited significant decline in the plant growth and yield. This has verified that the tested mungbean cv. T 44 was susceptible to the root rot fungus. Rotting of tap root and presence of few lateral roots is the characteristic symptom of the disease. Because of few lateral roots and root hairs, drying and withering of leaves occurs due to less water absorption. During the initial stages of pathogenesis, the fungal hyphae penetrates the root epidermis which is restricted to the intercellular spaces of the cortical tissues of the primary roots. Due to this, collapse of adjacent cells occurs and heavily infected plantlets may die. Afterwards at the onset of flower, the mycelium grow intracellularly through the xylem and plug the vessels [28, 29], produce toxins and several enzymes [30, 31], and thereby disrupt host cells. Inoculation with M. phaseolina decreased the growth and yield of mungbean by 32.1 45.5% and 36%, respectively. Soil and seed borne nature of the pathogen creates problem for an effective management of the root rot disease. Use of the chemicals is one of the best options for the management of plant diseases which is quick as well as effective method. The present approach was to manage the root rot disease by using ... A beautiful domicile that, as humans, peaks our curiosity. As the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat , when it comes to traveling to space, humans are slowly dying from their curiosity. Space is a dangerous place, full of mental and physical altering effects. Astronauts, the deep sea divers of space, must train for years to get use to the effects of space. Space is virtually the exact opposite than the home we know as Earth. Humans, along with all organisms on Earth, were created on Earth for Earth and when we dare explore a place without the same environment, we are asking for complications. When a human is exposed to the vacuum of space, we die within minutes. Over the years scientists have developed technologies that help protect us against the deadly features of space, but in reality it only shields us from about fifty percent of all of the harmful effects. Weightlessness changes us physically, while isolation alters us mentally. Space changes the life of any human including the way we travel from place to place, our sleeping and eating habits, and the amount of exercise needed. Chinatown Essay Chinatown Before the 1960s, the era of the Civil Rights Movement and People of Color Movements, ethnic towns were formed due to the anti ethnic legislation, which forced many people of color to live in certain areas of the city. After the relaxation of some anti ethnic legislation, especially in residential segregation, these ethnic towns changed. No longer are these ethnic groups forced to live in segregated areas due to legislation, but rather because of economic and cultural survival due to the resources that are found in these ethnic towns. During the 1920s, Pilipino Americans congregated along the streets of Main and 1st streets, in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles adjacent to City Hall. This area was the site of many pool halls, restaurants, barbershops, taxi dance halls, and hotels where Pilipinos congregated. This was the area known as Pilipinotown, Southern California s version of San Francisco s Manilatown. However, in the 1930s, Los Angeles started the Bunker Hill Redevelopment Project. The city plan was to redevelop the Civic Center, the Music Center, high rise hotels and office buildings in the area where Pilipinos gathered. As a result, many of the earlier Pilipino Americans were forced to leave this area, a clear act of racist gentrification. They were forced to move in the current site of the proposed Pilipinotown, just west of downtown, around Temple Street and Beverly Blvd. Due to the passage of the 1965 Immigration Act, many Pilipinos started to immigrate to the United States in mass numbers as they did in the 1920s and 1930s. • 25. The Influence Of Student Habits And Student Athletes For any college student, one of the most important things to be learned is good time management and study skills. This becomes even more imperative when the student in question is an athlete and has the majority of their day planned out for them. Being a student athlete comes with its own unique set of challenges, including finding a way to balance the amount of time they allot to the sport they play and to their studies. It is a common perception that student athletes spend less time and efforts on their studies than the average college student, but it is not that simple. When considering whether or not student athletes focus the appropriate amount of time on school work, it is necessary to take a deeper look at why they focus on what they do, and some of the factors that influence an athlete and the academic habits they have formed. If student athletes are focusing more on athletics, it would be helpful to understand what drives them to do so; likewise, knowing why athletes are just as dedicated to their academics as they are athletics could help pave the way for all student athletes in the future. Most athletes that are more concerned with their academics have something or someone that influence their academic habits. Influencing factors can include things such as needing to maintain a certain GPA for their coach or a scholarship, or potentially that they use the drive they have developed as an athlete off the court as well. Two enemy forces were to face off using very different tactics. The Roman Empire had succeeded in amassing a staggering 50,000 or greater number of infantry troops and a disputed 6,000 cavalry troops. The Roman army was to use its vast numbers to subdue the smaller numbered forces of the Carthaginian army using sheer force. It was a tactical advantage for Hannibal s army. His forced his opponent to battle facing the heat of Italian sun and weighed down by the weight of their armor. The Carthaginian army formed a similar formation. According to (Cavazzi): Hannibal first masked his moves as he drew up his army, by placing his light slingers and spearmen at the front. Behind them, he positioned his Celtic and Spanish swordsmen in a crescent in the center. On his left wing, he stationed his Celtic and Spanish heavy cavalry; on the right, he stationed his light Numidia cavalry. Both sides engaged their infantry forces in skirmishes at the center. Hannibal, familiar with the Roman style of fight, knew the Roman elite would ride on the right. The Romans viewed their allies as not being noble, and would not ride together with their partner. This allowed Hannibal to place his heavy Celtic and Iberian cavalry on his left to face the Roman cavalry. Hannibal s cavalry outnumbered the Romans and was able to annihilate them on the right side of their formation. The Roman infantry in the center continued to engage Hannibal s forces. An example of foreshadowing in The Leap occurs when the narrator recalls her mother telling her that she would be amazed at how many things a person can do within the act of falling . This foreshadows their leap from the fire. Erdrich builds suspense throughout the story through multiple references to falling and being saved leading to the expectation that something bad will happen to the narrator. Erdrich also creates suspense through her use of words, such as describing the storm which caused the death of Anna s husband as a deadly gale . 2. An example of contrast in the story is that between the first time Anna makes a leap in order to protect the life of her unborn child, and the final leap in which Anna saves the narrator from the fire. During the first leap, Anna makes a decision in the attempt to allow her baby a full life; however, the child ends up dying only a few months later. In the final leap, Anna once again must rescue her child, and this time succeeds in allowing her child a long life. Heat and Iron A clothing iron, also called a flatiron or simply an iron, is a small appliance: a handheld piece of equipment with a flat, roughly triangular surface that, when heated, is used to press clothes to remove creases. It is named for the metal of which the device is commonly made, and the use of it is generally called ironing. Ironing works by loosening the ties between the long chains of molecules that exist in polymer fiber materials. With the heat and the weight of the ironing plate, the fibers are stretched and the fabric maintains its new shape when cool. Some materials, such as cotton, require the use of water to loosen the intermolecular bonds. Many materials developed in the twentieth century are advertised as needing little or no ... From there, the water is converted to steam, which exits from the soleplate at the bottom of the iron through the ports. On the top of the iron, a pump draws water from the reservoir and sprays it through the nozzle. Troubleshooting and Maintenance Most problems occur when an iron is either dropped, the cord is frayed or mineral deposits from hard water clog the ports. To clean the aluminum soleplate on the bottom of the iron, use a solution of one part baking soda to two parts water on a cloth. Use a soapy scouring pad to clean steel soleplates. Whichever type of cleaning method is used, dry the iron thoroughly. After heating it up over the lowest setting, run the iron over a piece of wax paper and then a dry cloth, according to Time Life. During the presidency of President Andrew Jackson in 1830, the party adopted its name as the Democratic Party as it is known now. Prior to the renaming of the party, it was known as the Democratic Republican Party founded by James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson in opposition of the Federalist Party. The Democratic Party s purposed served to supported states rights and the strict interpretation of the Constitution (Mayne, 1). Correspondingly, providing financial support to family based agriculture was one of their main priorities (Mayne, 1). The Federalist Party, their opposition, consisted of wealthy elites that strived, and fought for one strong all ruling national government, rather than state governments. As the United States had just recently become independent, the Democratic Republican Party was determined to prevent the United States from becoming a monarchy. Over the next century, the Democratic Republican party began to split due to the lack of agreement on major ideas which led to the current two party system. However, some ideologies remain the same such as moral stance, and socioeconomic status. Other ideologies like economic view and stance on government power have caused this split between the Democratic and Republican parties (Mayne, 22). It is imperative to remember that even though these two parties are completely different, they originated from the same party with one main goal; To create a government that is run for and by its people (Mayne, 23). Dante uses numerous literary techniques to describe his vision of Hell to the reader. In my opinion, one of the most affective techniques used by Dante is symbolism. It would be a very difficult task to compile a brief list of significant symbols from the Cantos that we read in class. Dante utilized many symbols throughout each canto. During these times Virgil has to repeatedly encourage Dante to stay on the path of the journey that they were intended to travel on. The fact that Vergil has to lead Dante along is, in a way, motivating Dante not to stray from the path of righteousness. The numerous stumbling blocks that threatened to interrupt Dante s journey were not just physical barriers, but can be seen as agents of hell that threaten to keep Dante from a pious life. Dante s deliberate journey toward heaven can also be looked at in contrast with the pointless wandering signified by to and fro movement of many condemned souls that were in hell. Theses souls have completely lost the path of righteousness and literally have no direction in the afterlife. In contrast, Dante has the ultimate goal of reaching heaven in front of him and a motivating force in Virgil, which gives a purpose and direction to his continuing journey. The functions of art that are mentioned are: delight, commentary, worship/ritual, commemoration, persuasion, and self expression. The function that stood out to me was commentary because this function of art allows the artist to be expressive in his/hers work of art. Commentary is expressions of opinions rendered as an art form to communicate with the viewers. Viewers also have a connection with the artists and the artists work. Commentary can be about and event, person, or opinion. The first art work I chose was a piece done from Diego Rivera in which Diego s interest at the time of the art work was about Cubism. Diego Rivera s painting, Portrait of Adolfo Maugard, oil on canvas relates to Commentary as one of the functions of Art. In figure one of the art work, the main focus of the painting appears to be the person he painted and what surrounds the person. Rivera s portrait was of Adolfo Best Maugard. Although the focus appears to be Maugard, the painting is not one point perspective.
