Reading Comprehension Strategy Of Inferring Essay
Making Inferences WHY:
Purpose of Lesson: The purpose of this lesson is to introduce students to the reading comprehension
strategy of inferring. The students will learn how to use textual evidence combined with their own
background knowledge to make inferences about various aspects of a text including characters,
setting, theme, and plot.
Common Core State Standards:
CCSS.ELA LITERACY.RL.5.1: Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says
explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
Goals/Objectives of Lesson: What do you hope for/expect?
In a small group setting, each student will make at least 3 inferences about various scenarios and
pictures through writing and speaking.
Following a teacher s model, each student will write their own short scenario that will be used for their
classmates to make inferences about.
When reading a selected chapter from the book, Wonder, students will use a graphic organizer to make
at least two written inferences by filling in all three columns of the organizer (what is stated, what I
already know, and my inference).
Extension Activity: Each student will create a short story (either written or verbal) based on their
inferences about a picture that will be provided by the teacher.
Context of the Lesson: Where does this lesson fall in what is currently being taught?
This is the students second week of academics, and this will be their first experience in fifth grade
with making inferences. Up until

Assessment And Scope Of The Pima County Community Health...
The purpose and scope of this Pima County community health assessment is to give the community
members information on the needs and the health status of the community while taking into account,
cultural, educational, demographic and socioeconomic factors. These elements, in addition to housing,
geography, and health resources, provide a better understanding of the components that shape Pima
County. Community health assessments help lay the foundation for what problems need to be
addressed within the population and inspire programs to set goals to improve the overall health of the

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funded Living River program, that was created by the
Sonoran Institute, has the goal to enhance the wetland ecosystems that are located in the lower Santa
Cruz River and enhance the comprehension of the wetland conditions as well as increase the
knowledge of the importance of the wetlands to the public (Pima County Arizona, 2017c). Along with
the EPA, the Regional Optimization Master Plan (ROMP) is also involved in this program. ROMP is
an important environmental factor because it is working towards better water quality, clarity, and an
enhanced environment for wildlife. It has done this by upgrading the two main wastewater treatment
plants that release to the Lower Santa Cruz River (Pima County Arizona, 2017c). ROMP has been
successful with treating the wastewater and has been a very important contribute to making this water
better for the environment and the community. On average, Pima County gets about 14 inches of
rainfall and 285 sunny days per year (Sperling s BestPlaces, 2017a). The UV index being 6.5 is much
higher than the average index in the United States which is 4.3 (Sperling s BestPlaces, 2017b). This
puts Pima County in the high exposure category where defense against sunburn is a necessity (United
States Environmental Protection Agency, 2004). This high UV index can also lead to basal and

Present Day Car Research Paper
As far as the lives of normal individuals are concerned, there is little uncertainty that the vehicle is the
most progressive innovation ever since the wheel itself. More than any other human invention, the
automobile has arguably shaped the modern era. The essential thought is straightforward: pick a
wheeled vehicle from the numerous sorts; regularly pulled by stallions or bulls, include an engine and
make a self pushed, individual transportation. The automobile as we probably know it was not
concocted in a solitary day by a solitary creator; yet rather contains an entire history. The car mirrors a
development that occurred around the world. It is said that more than 100,000 trend setters, made the
present day car . Likewise with every awesome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Thin Layer Of Fiction Are Looking Backward By Edward...
Throughout the years, literature has often been used as a means to spread social critique. When it
unfavorable or even dangerous to publicly speak out against the society of the time, the written word
can act as a shield. Adding a mask of fiction to these novels allows the author to get their message out
to the public who otherwise would not take the time for such issues. Two novels that exemplify this
social critique behind a thin layer of fiction are Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy and Herland
by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both of these novels offer a critique to certain aspects of American
society during the time period, and do so in very similar ways. Each of these novels, Looking
Backward and Herland, depict utopian societies in order to fully illustrate the issues that the authors
see in their current society. Although the issues being addressed may be different, the way Bellamy
and Gilman discuss them contain numerous parallels. Ranging from the cause of these utopian
societies, to the mindset of the individuals living in them, both novels are very similar in their
approach to social critique of America. Even the differences between the two are caused by common
reasons. These parallels show the underlying format used by both Bellamy and Gilman that allowed
them to identify the flaws in American society and offer solutions to them. One such parallel found
within the novels is the cause of the utopian societies. Both Looking Backward and Herland depict
communities

Lanthanum Research Paper
Our world, as complex as it is, can be broken down into just 118 different elements. Some of these
elements are well known and their names bring vivid images to mind, such as gold, neon, and copper.
Other elements, however, are much less recognized. In fact, many people have never even heard of
them. Lanthanum is one of these unsung elements. Although, quite often, one may live his entire life
without ever hearing of this element, lanthanum is practically everywhere. Far from being a rare earth
metal, as its name implies, it can be found in many places, from the bones that make up the human
form, to the vegetables that make their meals. (1)(4) This poster will tell the fascinating history of

According to Emsley, although there are no commercial uses for pure lanthanum metal, there are
many for its alloys. That of lanthanum and nickel (LaNi5) for example, is extremely good at absorbing
hydrogen gas. As a powder, it can absorb as much as 400 times its own volume and is being
investigated as a storage system for hydrogen. Lanthanum is also the core material in carbon arc
electrodes for film and photographic studio lights and for floodlighting. Lanthanum Oxide is added to
the glass for making lenses because it improves its refractive index, and lanthanum salts are included
in the zeolite catalysts used in petroleum refining because they stabilize at high temperatures. In
medical circles, a new treatment of kidney dysfunction is with lanthanum in the form of carbonate,
which, when ingested, bonds to phosphate so strongly that it cannot be absorbed from the

The Murder And Robbery Of A Teenage Girl By Six African...
On June 15th, 1920, three innocent men were beaten and lynched in Duluth, Minnesota. The alleged
rape and robbery of a teenage girl by six African American men, led a mob of protesters to kidnap
three of the men and punish them without trial . Durring this time, racial tensions were at an all time
high in Duluth . The Duluth lynchings were met with different reactions, and in many ways it sparked
a change in the United States. Events such as this one often go unremembered due to their troubling
nature, but these events are educational and necessary to learn while investigating Minnesota history.
The background, legal action, and after math of it all show how Minnesota, and the country as a whole
reacted to this event . While some Local Duluth newspaper responded in favor of the mob, the
majority of National newspapers condemned the mob for their heinous crimes. Opposite reactions
from multiple news reports shows how divided our country was about civil rights at the time, and how
controversial the topic was . A call to action was needed. The Duluth lychings affected the nation by
showing how controversial civil rights was at this time, and influencing the creation of new programs
and laws to protect the rights of African Americans in our country. The 1920 s presented many
hardships for the small black community the resided in Duluth. Racial tensions in the city, as well as

The End Of World War II And Creation Of The United Nations
The end of World War II and creation of the United Nations (UN) in 1945, set the world on a new
evolutionary path. This unique evolution commenced with the United States (US) and the Union of
Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR) as world powers as a result of their distinctive roles in ending
World War II. Their contradicting ideologies as to the basis of this new evolution sparked a cold war
bringing fear and great concerns to the masses. Inspite of the intensity of this war, the UN assumed its
responsibilities in ensuring peace and encouraging both nations to peacefully sort out their differences.
This consequently recorded the first involvement of the UN in the world superpowers affairs.
Currently, the evolution transits into new superpowers; the United States an established power and
China a rising power. In contrast to the US USSR relations, the new superpowers emphasize on
constructive bilateral relations that propose to foster cooperation, mutual respect and promote global
development. This essay, indicates the importance of unified trilateral efforts and collaborative
multilateral cooperation between the US, China and the UN. These world powers have thriven through
socio economic decline to expand their economy, joined forces to propagate the global economic
growth and strength. It further describes the beneficial relationship of the US and China to
international society by their constructive roles and responsibilities. The essay also highlights the

Understanding The Chinese Culture Of A Chinese Patient
Many health care professionals think that if patients are just treated with respect, then cultural issues
will be avoided. That statement is not the correct. Five points of area that affect nursing care when
taking care of a Chinese patient, are the cultural beliefs with medical treatments, who and when to
discuss the prognosis and medical treatment to, dietary beliefs, pregnancies beliefs, and death and
dying. Many Chinese people believe in traditional Chinese medical treatments, and if the doctors and
nurses disregard their beliefs, then that could lead to mistrust. Chinese people may try traditional
approaches first, and then seek medical care if they fail. Communication barriers may delay patients
from getting medical treatment. Cross cultural communication skills are extremely important to avoid
miscommunication. A couple accommodations needed in nursing care would be to take some extra
time to build a rapport with the patient before discussing any medical issues. Recognize how the
Chinese culture views doctors and nurses, and encourage the patient to ask questions, and give them a
chance to answer the questions. In the Chinese culture, when the patient is slow to respond to a
question, or seems to be hesitant, it is simply a sign that respect is being given to the person that is
asking the question (Cross Cultural Communications for Healthcare Professionals, 2015). Chinese
people speak in low volume and considered Americans to speak loud, so health care

each addressed different situations in the US. The vocal attitude in his song, King Kunta and the
musical elements makes it a very appealing song to any listener. The reference to his song, Kunta
Kinte, was a slave in Virginia in the 18th century as stipulated in the Alex Haley s novel Roots: The

The Importance Of Commercial Buildings In The Ottoman Empire
Secondly, commercial buildings were so popular in Cairo because it was already a major trading point
for the Ottoman Empire. The different type of commercial buildings were wikalas, khans, qaisariyas,
suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that these type of buildings existed since the Mameluke Empire
period, but they were kept being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some minor changes.
The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had shops on the
ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living quarters) on the upper floors. Some of
the shops from the ground level had special designs in their facades that allowed the merchants to
display the imported goods that they had for sale. The building had only one entrance per each facade,
and each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from shops, had storerooms for the
merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had to use staircases that were usually
placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005).
The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and trading centre and
were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city. These buildings were built mostly
near the trading routes outside the city, and they required towers for extra protection, however, some
of them were located inside the city and did not required to be fortified because of it. A major
difference is that these buildings did not had shops in

Voter Turnout Decline in the United States Essay
The United States national elections have been experiencing a steady decline of eligible voters
showing up to vote. This steady decline has been ongoing since experiencing a significant increase in
voter turnout from 1948 through 1960. Over the years there has been significant, meticulous research
done to try to pinpoint the cause of the decline in voter turnout over years. All of this research has led
to the production of an enormous number of literatures written on the perceived causes. The vast
amount of literature produced has led to a number of competing explanations about this decline. The
quest for the answer to the question of, why this decline in voter turnout, is very important for an
overwhelming majority of Americans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, I feel it is similarly important to this paper to address what the true definition and what I
mean when I use the term, national election. Through this paper I use the term, national elections,
which refers to the presidential and congressional elections in the United States. Also, by studying the
percentage of voter turnout in every national election, we determine if voter turnout is declining by, A
country is considered to have declining turnout if its average percentage levels in the last three
decades have decreased by more than 2% compared to those of the first three decades (Ferrini, 2012).
Given that the US does meet this criteria, lets get into analyzing these competing theories. The voter
barrier explanation for the decline in voter turnout in US national elections was researched and
analyzed by, Fair Vote The Center for Voting and Democracy, organization. They classify these
barriers as being registration and the scheduling of elections during the workweek that intensify the
disparity in turnout between low and high income voters (Fair Vote, 2012). Given that Fair Vote does
recognize and acknowledge that this is not the only problem that has affected voter turnout to decline,
they do believe that it plays a substantial role in it. However, not only do they state that these

The Humanity of Achilles Essay
As George Eliot once said, It is a narrow mind which cannot look at a subject from various points of
view. Whether viewing a piece of artwork or another person, there are often many points of view to
evaluate in order to find the true core of the subject. In great works of literature, authors often create
complex and dynamic characters to add depth and meaning into the story. In the Iliad, Homer
beautifully depicts the multifaceted character of Achilles as an epic hero. As readers look closely at
Achilles, he reveals different sides of himself as the epic poem develops. Representing the struggle
between his dominant, selfish, and Dionysian nature as an epic hero and his hidden empathetic
Apollonian core, Achilles reveals the mythos of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The taking of Bryseis angered Achilles because she represented his success as a leader. Achilles also
consistently shows another Dionysian trait throughout the Iliad: the seeking of revenge. In the Iliad
Patroclus, a trusted friend of Achilles goes to fight against Hector while Achilles is away from the war.
Ultimately, Patroclus is murdered by Hector on the battlefield and Achilles greatly mourns him
(Homer 16.77 867). Achilles was deeply saddened by the death of his beloved comrade and grief took
hold of [him] (Hamilton 197). Representing Sigmund Freud s principle of homo lomini lupus or man
is a wolf to man, Achilles wants to avenge his friend s life by murdering the one who murdered him.
Mankind has the tendency to do unto others as others have done unto them. Hector killed Patroclus
but Achilles is blind to his motives as to why. He doesn t see that Hector killed Patroclus in self
defense during a battle but he only views Hector as a murderer. The blindness with which Achilles
acts shows an immense force working in Achilles. According to Simone Weil force is that x that turns
anybody who is subjected to it into a thing (Benfey,82). In this case the force that acts on Achilles is
the degrading force of anger due to war. The war has stripped Achilles of his humanity and ability to
act rationally. If Achilles continues to behave primarily in a Dionysian way, he will become the cause
of his own ultimate detriment.

Reptile Dreams By Dave Barry
Rhetorical devices are used by writers to have an effect on its audience, they use words in specific
ways to convey meaning. In the book The Presence of Others they introduce two essays that deal with
identity, Guys vs Men and Reptile Dreams (Lunsford and Ruszkiewicz). In the essay by Dave Barry
Guys vs Men he uses several rhetorical devices to describe what he believes, is the difference between
guys and men (405). One rhetorical device Barry uses is tone. He creates a humorous tone to get his
message across to readers; his message is that people should relax and not take things so seriously. In
contrast, in Keith Bradsher s Reptile Dreams, Bradsher creates a morose tone to express his opinion
on what vehicles say about a person s identity (471). While the two authors are telling very different
stories, both use some of the same rhetorical devices to convey their feelings. Dave Barry s Guy vs.
Men and Keith Bradsher s Reptile Dreams both use rhetorical devices of tone, anecdote, and
hyperbole to influence the reader. Barry uses a humorous tone as a rhetorical device throughout his
essay. He uses jokes and sarcasm to persuade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the embellishments Bradsher uses are quotes from Rapaille, they are used in a way that help

SUVs are exactly that, they are armored cars for the battlefield, this quote is not meant to be taken
literally; while the road can be dangerous, it is certainly not a battlefield and SUVs are not as powerful
as armored cars (474). Bradsher also quotes Rapaille when he says the idea of being civil on the road
is over, ...for some people...it s a jungle out there and you re not going to kill me, if you attack me I
will fight (474). This is a powerful quote. Again, while the reader knows this is not what drivers are

between representatives of states. It usually refers to international diplomacy, the conduct of
international relations through the intercession of professional diplomats with regard to issues of peace

The combination of inadequate infrastructure and the government s deliberate policy which controls

American War And The American Civil War
In the beginning when America was uniting and trying to form its official government the northern
states and the southern states had already different greatly from each other. The North was
industrializing and working on expanding west and the South was booming with farming and its
famous cash crop. The North wanted to abolish slavery and the South did not. Since the North and
South had so many differences and could not keep a steady compromise, heavy tensions arose
between the North and the South which then caused the Southern states of America to decide to leave

For example, farming was the main source of income for the Confederate states. The main southern
chief crop which came to be known as King Cotton, accounted for 57% of all U.S. exports ( Civil War

depended heavily on slave labor. Since cotton production began to dominate and fuel the southern
economy, the South felt that they did not need to industrialize like their northern neighbors did. This
caused the South to manufacture very little goods and caused them to purchase manufactured goods
from the industrialized North or to purchase imported goods from overseas.
Unlike the Confederate South, the North decided to not utilize slave labor like the South did because
their economy did not call for farming that required large amounts of labor for rapid production. The
Union also decided to not utilize slave labor because slave labor was against many of the northerner s
morals. Since the North was industrialized and they manufactured goods, they had to compete with
other manufactures overseas. To demolish competition from the imported goods from overseas, the
northerners demanded high tariffs on the imported goods so that more people will buy the
manufactured goods from the North instead of the now more expensive imported goods from
overseas. The

During my time here at Suffolk County Community I faced many adversities in my personal life.
These hardships caused a dent in my education. I went from being a full time student who not ever
worked a day in her life to a full time employer, working at times sixteen hours a day to keep a roof
over my head and food on the table. Through all the privations I tried to crowd time in for a higher
education, earning a small paycheck was more imperative to me then college, as I needed the money
more than I needed the education. A few different times I had to withdraw from a class and take

Voter Registration Fraud Case Study
If accurate voter rolls aren t incentive, then maybe cost saving is. Since regulations very state to state,
it is hard to assess national cost. Considering money is a motivating factor to change, a case study for
registration cost was done using Oregon as the test subject. Pew considered every level of registration.
Beginning locally, it determined printing and postage, staff salaries, and facilities. Additionally, the
Secretary of State incurs expenses related to maintain the voter rolls, providing and distributing
registration forms, training and assisting agencies involved with voter registration, and manning the
toll free call center for public questions regarding registration. All totaled, Oregon spent almost nine
million dollars registering voters for the 2008 election, that s $4.11 per active registered voter or $7.67
per registration transaction (Pew). Compare that cost to Canada, who maintains their voter roll using
automatic registration, with just 35 cents per active voter (Pew). That is a significant cost savings. ...

Arguably, any duplicitous activity surrounding our elections should be investigated and punished
accordingly. Indeed, most allegations of voter fraud turn out to be clerical errors, and individual voter
fraud is rare for two compelling reasons. First, individual fraud begets minimal votes, certainly not
enough to win an election. And second, it comes with a severe penalty (Brennan). Henceforth, our
country needs to find the balance between the possibility of fraudulent elections with the probability
of voter suppression and disenfranchisement. Automatic voter registration not only mends the system,
but also protects it by removing those that would most benefit from voter registration fraud from the
process ie. political parties and partisan third party

The Importance Of Creativity Within Classroom Instruction...
This article helped me to understand the importance of including creativity within classroom
instruction and the author did an excellent job at describing one way to do so. The author was all
about using the inquiry based learning. The author explained this type of learning in a way that I could
see myself using it within my classroom. Although the author is an advocate for using inquiry learning
within science classes I could see myself using this type of learning within other areas of instruction as
well. If I would use inquiry based learning within language arts or math it would still encourage
creativity because the students would still be taking responsibility for their own learning.
Additionally, this article explains in detail the history and use for standardized testing. The idea of
these tests have hindered the use of creativity within the classrooms a substantial amount. The author
argues that this is a great problem within today s education because the teachers are no longer
including creative instruction but rather the teachers are teaching to the test to the students score high
because teacher s jobs are at risk if students do not show great growth within the achievement gap.
This is why the author suggests teaching with an inquiry approach. By using an inquiry approach
within the classroom the teacher can still include preparation for the standardized tests but the students
are still being creative with their findings and problem solving more on their own. The

Why Is Brutus Justified In Killing Julius Caesar
Is it ever just to kill another human being? No, one cannot justly kill someone. Everyone has a time;
and humans can t alter the fates of another. In William Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar, the main
character, Julius Caesar is made out to be an ambitious and arrogant dictator in Rome. He is
surrounded by childhood friends, including his best friend and murderer, Brutus. Brutus is
manipulated by Cassius, a roman senator and part of the conspiracy, into believing romans want Julius
Caesar dead, so they form a conspiracy to kill Caesar. Although, the Romans say Brutus is honorable,
Brutus is not justified in killing Julius Caesar because the conspiracy is driven by jealousy, he is

Tricking him into doing what s good for the people . The next way they try to manipulate Brutus is by
flattering him. In the play Brutus is a very self conscious character. He might be the same as Caesar
but he doesn t see this. I have heard Where many of the best respect in Rome, Except Immortal Caesar
speaking of Brutus and groaning underneath his age s yoke Have wish d that noble Brutus had his
eyes (I.ii.60). Cassius is convincing Brutus into believing he really is a brave and noble man. By doing
this Brutus will be more offended by Caesar s remarks and want to join the conspiracy. To wrap up,
Brutus is in fact manipulated into killing Caesar. Lastly, Romans change rulers so quickly. The
Romans show repeatedly throughout the play that their opinions are easily altered. Additionally, in the
beginning of the play Caesar kills Pompey. Just before his death the Romans worshiped and loved
Pompey. Then directly after his defeat they cheered. Praising Caesar for his victory in killing their
deceased idol. With patient expectation to see the great Pompey pass the streets of rome... That comes
in triumph over pompey s blood? (I.i.34 51) Although technically their indecisive behavior could also
support the killing of Caesar. The Romans are so easily wavered yet this happens in another place in
Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar. Shortly after Caesar s

Alan Moore And Dave Gibbons
Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons Watchmen illustrates the lives of retired superheroes in the 1980s. The
Keene Act outlawed the masquerading of superheroes in the 1970s and led to the dissolution of many
superheroes. The murder of an old colleague, The Comedian, forces them to come out of retirement
and sets the events of the graphic novel into place. Moore and Gibbons sets up a world of superheroes
in the midst of a very real historical period of the Cold War. We usually think of superheroes as
existing in a fictional place, with an altered history. However, the novel references President Nixon,
the Cold War, Vietnam, and other real events and figures. These references help to establish the
superheroes as people existing in reality. Here, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richard Nixon is running for another term. Superheroes have influenced how the time period will turn
out because of they are the ones who change the events in history, both for and against us. The
presence of Dr. Manhattan makes it easier for the United States government to accomplish their
military goals, for example. In real life, a weapon that the United States or any country, for that matter,
this powerful would have been used to death. It would have meant the end of our problems as well as
the solution to any future problems or discussions. The inclusion of superheroes means we must
discuss the option of having too much power and having an extraterrestrial presence among the human
species. The presence of the superheroes and their eventual retirement/exile arise from this feeling of

exile. Rorschach incites fear into those who know of him and his history. Superheroes change the
dynamic of the society. The novel is also based on the current events going on, plus alterations
according to the necessary actions taken by the superheroes. The setting allowed the novel to hold a
dark mirror to its time (Rehak 156). When director Zack Snyder decided to adapt the novel into film,
he chose to update the setting to the post 9/11 world. It was an attempt to bring the ending more

Effective Appraisal Approaches And Its Influence On...
In business, the word of investment can be defined as the outflow of money for the purchase of
valuable item with an expectation of positive future return or the purchase of equipment or inventory
by owner in order to improve future business. (Kahraman, 2011) Moreover, the part of decision
making preforms a crucial role in business investment that depends upon the investor s profit
expectation, the availability to finance the investment and the potential cost of asset. (Virlics, 2013)

average of weight of all possible outcomes under certain circumstance. (Investopedia organization,

their potential outcomes, where the utilities of an outcome measures the extent to which that outcome

of which outcome will it be led to. (Stanford University, 2014)

better explain how individuals actual make choices between different options and prospects. It also
evaluates an outcome based on the alternation of total resources and judges by gains and losses that
related to the status. (Wen, 2010) Under prospect theory, value is allocated to gains and losses rather
than to final assets. Moreover, the investment decision making is an analogy to the behaviour of

Personal Statement On The American Cancer Society
. Jettowyne, (The Compassionate Friends, 2011, November 4), stated, Friends don t want to say your
child s name, because they think it will make you feel bad . Being open and asking or commenting on
the child is essential in the healing process and showing support.
Other important ways to comfort a friend is by acknowledging the child s death. Crying with the
parent(s). Being available for additional childcare or rides to the funeral home. It is also important to
respect each parent s grief process.
The American Cancer Society (2015) reports some key ways to assist a friend when they are grieving:
Acknowledge the situation. Example: I heard that your_____ died. Use the word died That will show
that you are more open to talk about how the person really feels.
Express your concern. Example: I m sorry to hear that this happened to you.
Be genuine in your communication and don t hide your feelings. Example: I m not sure what to say,
but I want you to know I care.
Offer your support. Example: Tell me what I can do for you.
Ask how he or she feels, and don t assume you know how the bereaved person feels on any given day.
Being a good listener and being there is very comforting to a person in grief. Giving reassurance and
showing empathy are also key in helping a friend in need. This may be done by going on errands for
them, offering to do housework, shopping or bringing over food dishes. In addition, it is important to
remember that grieving parents may

Marshall Curry s Street Fight
The documentary titled Street Fight, produced by Marshall Curry, follows a candidate for the 2002
election for mayor of Newark, New Jersey, Cory Booker and his opponent, Sharpe James. Street Fight
mainly unveils the power of politics and what holds power over politics itself. However, the video also
reveals several factors which influence and impact politics from the choices of real people on the
streets of Newark. Of these factors, the video focuses on the tactics in which each candidate promotes
themselves, their social background, and the authority they each hold.
In order to earn votes, each candidate constantly promotes and persuades the citizens that will vote for
them. Cory Booker takes his campaign literally door to door of the streets of Newark, greeting
homeowners, shop owners, and children, while giving small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Street Fight shows how Cory Booker begins to establish his authority among the people in Newark
and how Sharpe James uses his authority as campaign strategies. For example, Cory Booker takes to
the streets and lives with the people he is fighting for and talking one on one while playing fair and
respecting those who disagree with his views. On the other hand, Sharpe James used his power over
the police force to threaten homeowners, shop owners, and anyone associating with Booker to reduce
Booker s influence. For instance, Booker s signs were forcibly taken down without permission, some
shop owners had their businesses forcibly shut down, and Sharpe James had been spreading lies and
false rumours about Booker further damaging and criticizing Booker s reputation. Politics then
revolves around power and authority (Wasserman 8). Such usage of these two aspects in the 2002
political campaign demonstrates how politics can be approached in different

This was by far the most challenging course that I have encountered while obtaining my Master s
Degree in Educational Technology from UCMO. That is not a negative comment as this course has
actually impacted me professionally more than any other course I ve taken to date. This course has
taken more time to complete the assignments, more of my attention to detail, and more of my
creativity. The last point was the best part about this course. I consider myself to be fairly creative and
this course definitely allowed me to do that while bringing my somewhat odd personality to a
professional forum. For this I am grateful. Let s get to the good stuff, shall we? Three assignments in

The Greenhouse Effect Essay
Much like the glass of a greenhouse, gases in our atmosphere sustain life on Earth by trapping the sun
s heat. The Earth s atmosphere contains several different gases that act like a blanket, keeping the
Earth warm. Water vapour and some trace gases like CO2, CH4 (methane), O3 (ozone), N2O (nitrous
oxide), are IR active , i.e. they absorb heat energy, and stop the warmth from escaping into space.
Without the entrapment of heat, the earth s mean temperature would be 180 C and life, as we know it
today, would not be possible. These gases are present in the atmosphere in tiny quantities compared to
the amounts of oxygen and nitrogen. But even a small change in the concentration of these gases may
create an effect that could change our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any factor that alters the amount of radiation received from the sun or heat lost to space may
influence the climate. Therefore, any enhancement of the Greenhouse effect is a cause for concern.
Besides fluctuations of solar radiation due to the earth orbiting around the sun, human activities
influence the number of greenhouse gases. In fact, since the beginning of the industrial revolution,
human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and agriculture have caused the
concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to increase substantially. A marked rise in the
global temperature has been related to these human activities and CO2 emissions, and this temperature
rise is believed to be the result of an enhancement of the natural Greenhouse effect. And as a result,
global warming arises. This awareness has led many researchers to investigate possible causes and
effects of this temperature rise. However, as much knowledge about the climate system is lacking,
numerous researches on that issue have led to a great deal of debate. At the moment, the way the
climate system will respond to these human activities is difficult to predict, for too many processes are
not understood well enough. One absolute reality though is the fact that the global climate system will
respond to increasing temperatures. Moreover, this response could have irreversible consequences for
the habitability

Television Advertising For Prescription And...
Pharmaceutical companies have been using a lot of various strategies to market their medications,
notably in a contentious and lucrative market for prescriptions and non prescription medications.
Kornfield, Donohue, Berndt, and Alexander (2013, p. 1) argued that the United States profoundly
advertised pharmaceuticals and spent at least $30 billion dollars on publicity and selling of these
products. In this written assignment I will be presenting a summary of an interesting article from
Faerber and Kreling (2013) titled: Content Analysis of False and Misleading Claims in Television
Advertising for Prescription and Nonprescription Drugs.
On the words of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (2013), marketing is defined as an administration
method, accountable for recognizing, predicting and capturing customer demands profitably.
Faerber and Kreling (2013, p. 111) conducted a content analysis examining how substantial is a
consumer targeted advertising using the television as an instrument to relay these drug information to
the public and how accurate are the claim of drug effectiveness from the truth. The investigators
gathered commercial segments containing the advertisements of prescription and non prescription
drugs from 2008 through 2010. The multimedia data was randomly selected from the Vanderbilt
Television News Archive. Three coders were trained to classify the advertisement claims, and rate the
accuracy of the data from the evidence. Again, Faerber and Kreling

Objective Meaning
Many people walk around not worry about whether or not life has any objective meaning, at least
most of the time, and when they do think on the topic of the meaning of life, they seem assured that
there is some objective meaning. For many, this objective meaning lies in their religion. The notion
that God creates the meaning in life does make some sense. For if God created humans, it is
reasonable that he created them with intention and purpose. Now this might not be the purpose people
want to have, but it is purpose for them none the less. It is from this God given purpose that people
can derive their meaning. For those without religion, well, there is always subjective meaning. There
is family. There is the future of the human race. In short, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The existence of God is beyond the scope of this paper. However, if God does not exist, and life has
no meaning, that doesn t mean life has to be miserable. There are many wholesome things one can
find joy in. People can actually enjoy their jobs. Many people really do value their distractions. People
can find joy in the company of others. People can even find joy in helping each other. Why not donate
to Unicef? Why not volunteer? Still, people want meaning in their lives, and they find things to get
their meaning out of. Most of the time, the things people try to get meaning from are very admirable,
but this doesn t change the fact, that life without God, is meaningless. It may feel better to say that one
s meaning to life is trying to improve human quality of life, and hopefully, these people succeed in
their quest. However, as a meaning to life it doesn t really stand to

A Study On Eating Disorders

looks like. Some eating disorders are caused by stress which eventually ends up leading to depression.
Many eating disorders are caused because of how the media glorifies them. In all the magazines all the

disorders may first appear to be solely about food and weight preoccupations , people suffering from
eating disorders often try to use food and the control of food to cope with feelings and emotions that
may otherwise seem overwhelming ( Barbee J.G 2). Being able to control something in their lives
make them feel better, therefore, makes them feel less discouraged. Those diagnosed mentally feel
lonely, and assume that nobody can relate with them. Depression is a way that many people cope with
their eating disorders. Having an eating disorder modifies the way others view each other. People now
believe that what is shown on the internet is the ideal body image for everybody. In reality the body
type portrayed in advertising as the ideal is possessed naturally by only 5% of American females (
Eating Disorder Statistics 1 ). Our media s increased obsession with the thin ideal and industry
promotion of a perfect body may contribute to unrealistic body ideals in people with and without

Child Language Development
Language is a system in which sequences of sounds make up words to signify a person, place, idea, or
object and eventually becomes a tool through which we communicate. Language development starts at
birth with crying. Infants cry to communicate their needs are not being met. At around six months
infants begin to form consonant vowel chains; this is the start of babbling, an essential pre linguistic
skill and milestone in language development. Around the age of eleven months the child will say

Along with the EPA, the Regional Optimization Master Plan (ROMP) is also involved in this program. ROMP is an important environmental factor because it is working towards better water quality, clarity, and an enhanced environment for wildlife. It has done this by upgrading the two main wastewater treatment plants that release to the Lower Santa Cruz River (Pima County Arizona, 2017c). ROMP has been successful with treating the wastewater and has been a very important contribute to making this water better for the environment and the community. On average, Pima County gets about 14 inches of rainfall and 285 sunny days per year (Sperling s BestPlaces, 2017a). The UV index being 6.5 is much higher than the average index in the United States which is 4.3 (Sperling s BestPlaces, 2017b). • 5. A Thin Layer Of Fiction Are Looking Backward By Edward... Throughout the years, literature has often been used as a means to spread social critique. When it unfavorable or even dangerous to publicly speak out against the society of the time, the written word can act as a shield. Adding a mask of fiction to these novels allows the author to get their message out to the public who otherwise would not take the time for such issues. Two novels that exemplify this social critique behind a thin layer of fiction are Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy and Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both of these novels offer a critique to certain aspects of American society during the time period, and do so in very similar ways. Each of these novels, Looking Backward and Herland, depict utopian societies in order to fully illustrate the issues that the authors see in their current society. Although the issues being addressed may be different, the way Bellamy and Gilman discuss them contain numerous parallels. Ranging from the cause of these utopian societies, to the mindset of the individuals living in them, both novels are very similar in their approach to social critique of America. Even the differences between the two are caused by common reasons. These parallels show the underlying format used by both Bellamy and Gilman that allowed them to identify the flaws in American society and offer solutions to them. One such parallel found within the novels is the cause of the utopian societies. Both Looking Backward and Herland depict communities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That statement is not the correct. Five points of area that affect nursing care when taking care of a Chinese patient, are the cultural beliefs with medical treatments, who and when to discuss the prognosis and medical treatment to, dietary beliefs, pregnancies beliefs, and death and dying. Many Chinese people believe in traditional Chinese medical treatments, and if the doctors and nurses disregard their beliefs, then that could lead to mistrust. • 12. The Importance Of Commercial Buildings In The Ottoman Empire Secondly, commercial buildings were so popular in Cairo because it was already a major trading point for the Ottoman Empire. The different type of commercial buildings were wikalas, khans, qaisariyas, suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that these type of buildings existed since the Mameluke Empire period, but they were kept being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some minor changes. The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had shops on the ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living quarters) on the upper floors. Some of the shops from the ground level had special designs in their facades that allowed the merchants to display the imported goods that they had for sale. The building had only one entrance per each facade, and each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from shops, had storerooms for the merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had to use staircases that were usually placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005). The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and trading centre and were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city. These buildings were built mostly near the trading routes outside the city, and they required towers for extra protection, however, some of them were located inside the city and did not required to be fortified because of it. All of this research has led to the production of an enormous number of literatures written on the perceived causes. Given that the US does meet this criteria, lets get into analyzing these competing theories. The voter barrier explanation for the decline in voter turnout in US national elections was researched and analyzed by, Fair Vote The Center for Voting and Democracy, organization. They classify these barriers as being registration and the scheduling of elections during the workweek that intensify the disparity in turnout between low and high income voters (Fair Vote, 2012). Whether viewing a piece of artwork or another person, there are often many points of view to evaluate in order to find the true core of the subject. In great works of literature, authors often create complex and dynamic characters to add depth and meaning into the story. In the Iliad, Homer beautifully depicts the multifaceted character of Achilles as an epic hero. As readers look closely at Achilles, he reveals different sides of himself as the epic poem develops. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The taking of Bryseis angered Achilles because she represented his success as a leader. Achilles also consistently shows another Dionysian trait throughout the Iliad: the seeking of revenge. In the Iliad Patroclus, a trusted friend of Achilles goes to fight against Hector while Achilles is away from the war. Ultimately, Patroclus is murdered by Hector on the battlefield and Achilles greatly mourns him (Homer 16.77 867). Achilles was deeply saddened by the death of his beloved comrade and grief took hold of [him] (Hamilton 197). Representing Sigmund Freud s principle of homo lomini lupus or man is a wolf to man, Achilles wants to avenge his friend s life by murdering the one who murdered him. Mankind has the tendency to do unto others as others have done unto them. Hector killed Patroclus but Achilles is blind to his motives as to why. He doesn t see that Hector killed Patroclus in self defense during a battle but he only views Hector as a murderer. The blindness with which Achilles acts shows an immense force working in Achilles. According to Simone Weil force is that x that turns anybody who is subjected to it into a thing (Benfey,82). In this case the force that acts on Achilles is the degrading force of anger due to war. The war has stripped Achilles of his humanity and ability to act rationally. If Achilles continues to behave primarily in a Dionysian way, he will become the cause of his own ultimate detriment. ... In the book The Presence of Others they introduce two essays that deal with identity, Guys vs Men and Reptile Dreams (Lunsford and Ruszkiewicz). In the essay by Dave Barry Guys vs Men he uses several rhetorical devices to describe what he believes, is the difference between guys and men (405). One rhetorical device Barry uses is tone. He creates a humorous tone to get his message across to readers; his message is that people should relax and not take things so seriously. In contrast, in Keith Bradsher s Reptile Dreams, Bradsher creates a morose tone to express his opinion on what vehicles say about a person s identity (471). While the two authors are telling very different stories, both use some of the same rhetorical devices to convey their feelings. Since the North and South had so many differences and could not keep a steady compromise, heavy tensions arose between the North and the South which then caused the Southern states of America to decide to leave the American Union and create their own Southern Confederacy. However, in order to produce these large amounts of cotton, the southern Confederate states depended heavily on slave labor. Since cotton production began to dominate and fuel the southern economy, the South felt that they did not need to industrialize like their northern neighbors did. This caused the South to manufacture very little goods and caused them to purchase manufactured goods from the industrialized North or to purchase imported goods from overseas. Unlike the Confederate South, the North decided to not utilize slave labor like the South did because their economy did not call for farming that required large amounts of labor for rapid production. This article helped me to understand the importance of including creativity within classroom instruction and the author did an excellent job at describing one way to do so. The author was all about using the inquiry based learning. The author explained this type of learning in a way that I could see myself using it within my classroom. Although the author is an advocate for using inquiry learning within science classes I could see myself using this type of learning within other areas of instruction as well. If I would use inquiry based learning within language arts or math it would still encourage creativity because the students would still be taking responsibility for their own learning. Additionally, this article explains in detail the history and use for standardized testing. The idea of these tests have hindered the use of creativity within the classrooms a substantial amount. The author argues that this is a great problem within today s education because the teachers are no longer including creative instruction but rather the teachers are teaching to the test to the students score high because teacher s jobs are at risk if students do not show great growth within the achievement gap. This is why the author suggests teaching with an inquiry approach. Any factor that alters the amount of radiation received from the sun or heat lost to space may influence the climate. Therefore, any enhancement of the Greenhouse effect is a cause for concern. Besides fluctuations of solar radiation due to the earth orbiting around the sun, human activities influence the number of greenhouse gases. In fact, since the beginning of the industrial revolution, human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and agriculture have caused the concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to increase substantially. A marked rise in the global temperature has been related to these human activities and CO2 emissions, and this temperature rise is believed to be the result of an enhancement of the natural Greenhouse effect. And as a result, global warming arises. This awareness has led many researchers to investigate possible causes and effects of this temperature rise.
