Theme Of Flash Fiction
Stephan King once stated, We make up horror to help us cope with the real ones. The three texts, The
Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, The Nicest Kid in the Universe by Chuck Rosenthal, and Charlotte
s Back by Sydney Kennedy, all include this theme of horror. Horror is this intense feeling of fear,
shock, or disgust and many authors choice this feel for their stories because there is such a demand for
it. We all have this built up fear and horror and movies and books include horror give us an away to
release it. Many authors, like these three, choice to place horror into flash fiction. Flash fic Kennedy

Kennedy also borrowed the train crash which she transformed to a car crash, which both resulted in
death. In the text it states, It was he who had been in the newspaper office when intelligence of the
railroad disaster was received, with Brently Mallard s name leading the list killed. This quote shows
how Kennedy effectively took the train accident, and turned into a fatal car crash, which in this day in
age is more relevant. She cohesively included both borrowed elements quite effectively. In Charlotte s
Back it indicates a sense of fear and horror in the reader. For example, the text states, She was covered
in blood, her eyes were red, and her pink dress was cut and mangled. This quote explains how
Kennedy included graphic elements and descriptions to frighten the reader. Gothic elements and were
also included into the the work. The gloomy ad ominous setting of the insane asylum gave off a
mysterious and gothic feel. Kennedy also included supernatural elements to hit on the the horror
genre. Charlotte reappeared as a ghost and came back to haunt and kill her father, which fits right into
the gothic feel of the story. These gothic elements, such as the ghost, are also some of Kennedy s
childhood fears. She once stated in an interview that she always believed as a child that her baby dolls
moved and were real. It even got to the point where she had to throw them away. She used this

Descriptive Essay On Rockefeller Chapel
Rockefeller Chapel is an enormous space neither religious nor secular, but teetering on the rims of
both in its uses as a prayer hall, concert space, and location for the College s convocation ceremony.
On April 22nd, 2017, the chapel is used as a divine space, bringing two religions, two cultures, and
numerous ethnicities together in A Meeting of Two Seas, a concert celebrating the contributions of
Hindus and Muslims to the arts of South Asia. As a performer, I enter Rockefeller Chapel through its
West Entrance, two hours before the concert begins for a quick rehearsal and sound check I am an
insider, not only as a Carnatic vocalist, but as a Hindu, who has observed the rifts between Hindus and
Muslims, which have lasted seemingly through antiquity. Through the concert, I hope to observe a
beautiful amalgamation of these two religions and cultures and possibly, see the rifts begin to subside.
Before guests begin to usher in, I take a seat in the front row next to my friends and fellow performers
and prepare to take notes for my sketch. My friends giggle and chatter about their daily struggles,
tuning out the sitar music playing softly in the background, but I tell them to quiet down so that I can
pay attention during the concert. After a brief introduction from co hosts Nikhil and Nur Banu, Minu
Pasupathi, one of my South Asian Music Ensemble (SAME) directors, ascends the stage to perform
the first act, an assemblage of two unconventional Carnatic pieces: Allahvai

The Evolution of Islamic Finance and Financial Institutions
The evolution of Islamic finance now takes place in most of the countries, whether in Muslim
countries or non Muslim countries. Islamic finance institutions perform the same essential functions as
financial institutions do in the conventional system, except that there is a need for them to carry out
their transactions in accordance with the rules and principles of Islam. One of the most growing parts
of the Islamic finance is Islamic equity market. In principle, Islamic equity market is characterized by
the absence of interest based transactions, doubtful transactions and unlawful stocks of companies
which deal in non shariah compliance activities or items. Its market activities must be free from any of
unethical or immoral elements.
The emergence of several Islamic indices such as the Dow Jones Islamic index has offered better
screening processes to both Muslim and non Muslims investors. The existence of the shariah
screening process in the stock market will enable Muslim investors to invest into companies that run
the permissible activities in the businesses. The Dow Jones Islamic Market Index (DJIM), launched in
1999 in Bahrain, was first benchmark to represent Islamic compliant portfolios and for investors
seeking investments in compliance with Muslim Shariah law. The DJIM in essence is a specialized
ethical index that screens out prohibited stocks, as defined by Shariah law, and it is monitored by
Muslim scholars. Malaysia is recognized as one of the dynamic

Who Is The Protagonist In Fight Club
Fight Club (1999) Fight Club is a drama directed by David Fincher, based on the Chuck Palahniuk
novel of the same name. It follows an insomniac (Edward Norton), who becomes discontented with
his white collar job and forms an underground fight club with the eccentric Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt).
(Figure 3.1) Tyler spliced frames in Fight Club, this technique foreshadows Tyler s habit of splicing
explicit imagery into family films. Throughout the opening twenty to thirty minutes of the film, until
his full introduction, Tyler is implanted in single frames at moments where he would reflect what the
Narrator would want to become (fig 3.1) such as at the self help groups the Narrator occupies his time
with due to his insomnia, showing that the Narrator is still formulating the personality. This technique
is alluded to during Tyler s montage showing his night jobs, where he cuts single frames of
pornographic movies into family movies. (Figure 3.2) Narrator with Tyler in the background
Throughout the entire film, Tyler is presented in scenes doing whatever the Narrator would rather be
doing, such as when the Narrator is on the phone to Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), Tyler is shown
playing with nun chucks in the background. This feeds into the fact that Tyler is the idealised, more
laid back version of the Narrator. Fincher shows the spilt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analyzing The Onion s Article Magnasoles
In the article, The Onion writes an article about a product called MagnaSoles that they advertise as a
good product with statements from scientists. The Onion uses satire to show how easy it is to sell a
product by putting science behind its name. First, in the second paragraph they say ... It harnesses the
power of magnetism to properly align the biomagnetic field around your foot. which was told by a
pseudoscientist, or fake scientist. They use a big word like biomagnetic to make it seem like it s useful
just by saying a scientist who is actually a fake scientist describe it with big words. Next, they counter
argue themselves by calling the product semi plausible calling it a product that can only get half the
credit which it deserves.

What Is The Difference Between Manley Pointer And The Misfit
Even with their similar traits these men are extremely different. Manley Pointer could just be looked at
as a low time criminal stealing from those less fortunate. Manley s goal was just to steal Hulga s
prosthetic leg and this man had no remorse because this was not his first time leading somebody on
like Hulga, he even says, One time I got a woman s glass eye this way (Connor 9). The Misfit is much
more aggressive than Manley though. The Misfit was wrongfully accused of the murder of his father
and was incarcerated unfairly. He then escapes the prison and now feels it his place to commit the
crime he had been accused of. The Misfit say, because I can t make what all I done wrong fit what all I

Response To Talia s Last Letter
Thank you for sharing life with me over the last many years. As I ponder life, I am so very grateful for
the moments we have shared in our own personal discovery, development and as a family. I would like
to apologize for my behavior over the last six months as well as a few specific events that I caused. I
inflicted such underserved pain and discord. When I became overwhelmed by some personal issues I
made some very bad decisions with regards to coping mechanisms and for this I am truly sorry.
Sharing a relationship and making commitments as a father and daughter is a powerful emotional
moment. I have cared and loved you with all my soul and I think of you with every moment my

could think of is how much I love you and the primordial desire I had to reach into the river or gulf

without the shame I am experiencing and the continuous interruption of thought due to my feeling of
humiliation, guilt, and remorse. This is the last letter I will write as part of my addiction program. It is
the last because it is the hardest for me to understand. Trying to understand how I could love someone
so much and treat her so poorly is a concept that I fight to come to terms. I believe I have been a good
parent to you but I simple do not understand my decompensating. My therapist tells me this is all part
of family, alcoholism and stress and the motto of the lessons are ?the best apology is changed

Gun Ownership Pros And Cons
Carrying or owning a gun has a lot of pros along with a lot of cons. Why some see the necessity of
owning a gun for reasoning from hunting game to house security, I personally do not have a true
reason to own one. Owning a gun has much more responsibility than I care to have by spending a fair
amount of money and time for an item that has little to no use for me and would not make me safe.
The legality of owning a gun far exceeds the mental health of the owner, few things non gun owners
know and what all gun owners should know. A lot of gun owners will say that non gun owners have
little say as to why one should not own guns, well I can say that gun owning and sales can go far
greater than a few old white men at Cabela s talking about the how the AR can have a swapped .223
barrel to a .556 barrel and how the overload of attachments can put on the gun with rails. When
writing this originally I thought to research a tad to fully understand guns and the legality of them,
until I came across how some states require one to have the firearm locked up in one s house in case
little kids go wondering around the house and happen to stumbles across a firearm and accidently fires
it because the horrid gun owner did not just leave the gun out but also had a clip ready. As I continued
my research on locking up guns, I saw some states and insurance companies require one to own a
certified gun safe in order to own x amount of guns. This struck me, personally I m a big safe owner. I

Raising Driving Age
Teens have been a part of many accidents. They have caused many people to die. Would it be better to
raise the age or let them get a licensed to be able to drive?
Raising the age should help teens not commit car accidents. In 1995 through 2004 there was 30,917
fatalities in accidents involved 15 to 17 year olds, according to a study by the AAA Foundation for
Traffic Safety. A third of those fatalities were teens themselves. The others were pedestrians,
passengers, and people in cars that got hit. Raising the driving age may seem burdensome to parents
and teens.
Some say raising the driving ages won t save lives. Supporters of GDLs (graduated driver s licenses)

Perry Bii A Virtual Reality
Everyone seems to be more adapted to what is the greatest invention ever, which is technology.
Technology can be pleasant and fun but yet has an unsafe impact on our world. People use the media
for almost anything. Technology has made a way to enter our minds.
Technology is one of the most beneficial sources that we use today. Without technology we have no
clue what position we would all be in. Although it is a desperate need for most of us, it can also be a
menacing thing to our lives and community. We today use technology more than anything else. This

activities.
Virtual reality is a source created to simulate the world, it s used in schools, stores, homes basically

Trainspotting Film Analysis Essay
Trainspotting presents an ostensible image of fractured society. The 1996 film opens, famously, with a
series of postulated choices—variables, essentially, in the delineation of identity and opposition.
Significant here is the tone in which these options are delivered—it might be considered the rhetorical
voice of society, a playful exposition of the pressure placed on individuals to make the correct choices,
to conform to expectation.
As such, the introduction might be read as contributing to the formation of two narrative constructs:
that of normality —or at least that considered normality by prevailing ideology—and that of
subnormality, the remainder. In its uncompromising rejection of the former, the commentary of Ewan
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These subcultures operate because the world around them is open to interpretation, and if an
interpretation is justified, it is arguably as valid as one which directly opposes it.
The imposition of a universal set of values, like that of the law, for example, is a product of
power—and, liberally speaking, an injustice. Renton notes that his mother, on tranquillisers, is, in her
own socially acceptable way, also a drug addict. Because these particular characters choice of lifestyle
conflict with that of the dominant order, they are marginalised—forced to live in squalor and filth. This
is something signified in the mise en scene: theirs is a world of repugnant toilets; of splattered walls,
doors and floors; of soiled bed sheets; of buckets for urine, vomittus and faeces.
Fittingly, there is an equally strong argument to the contrary. Begbie proves an unreliable narrator, yet
appears to act without conscience or consequence; Sick Boy, portrayed early on as a closet
philosopher, is rendered mute after the death of his son. Some things are above and beyond words.
Similarly, despite its apparent emphasis on the relationship between power and subjectivity, the film
does pronounce ultimate ethical judgements, as I will describe in a moment.
Trainspotting essentially refuses to make up its mind. At the film s close, Renton s betrayal of his
friends is completely rationalised away. Were his

The Pros And Cons Of The Reformation
The word reformation implies whole scale change, with Catholicism the very foundation of life, the
reformation should have sought to uproot this underlying power and plant a new order. However,
Henry did not refine the role of the church, as Shagan comments Given the king s promiscuous mixing
of civil and religious authority, it was not even clear where the line lay . The Ten Articles of 1536
promoted the use of image and the invocation of saints are more heartily commended , yet as an
independent activity it was up to the person whether or not this was undertaken even before the
reformation. Whilst Sacraments as a dependent activity, there only remained baptism, the Lord s

evidenced by the Pilgrimage of Grace. This begs whether the Pilgrimage of Grace was intended as a
religious or secular uprising, its result would indicate the people s acceptance or rejection of the
Henrician reformation. The demographics of the commons represented seven counties, covering a
third of England , as previously mentioned the grievances were varied and specific. Economic
inequalities can be attributed to the risings in Cumberland, Westmorland and the Craven district of the
West Riding in 1536, demands arose from the call for moderation or abolition of entry fines and other
dues, such as rising general price level forced landlords to increase dues traditionally regarded as
fixed. The living standards were precarious at best, especially since 1527 and the inconsistency of
successful harvest and the increase of population which had the potential to cause an alarming
fluctuation in the economy, which was under strain from Henry already. Dickens posits ...roots of the
movement were decidedly economic, its demands predominantly secular, its interest in Rome almost
negligible.... In short the English remained incapable of staging genuine wars of religion . This defines
the nature of opposition to Henry, grievances varied from parish to parish, person to person. This
would all seem to point to the reformation , itself, as being largely secular and from the base of Henry

Essay on Mitigating Disasters in Developing Countries
The focus of this essay however will be on developing countries and the alternatives available to
mitigate natural and man made disasters that are available to policymakers. Developing countries are
in general countries which have not achieved a significant degree of industrialization relative to their
populations, and which have, in most cases a medium to low standard of living. There is a strong
correlation between low income and high population growth In today s globalized nation, countries
are categorized either as a developed or developing nation. This form of categorization is based on the

Most developing countries, especially the smaller states were once colonized by Western industrial
states and hence, have felt the impact of exploitation and deprivation from their strong colonial
powers; in fact, they are still governed with similar social, political, economical and cultural traits

developed nations, hence the tardiness in their developmental process. One tend to get the feeling that
there is some amount of inferiority among the citizens of developing countries as they have inherited
what is termed a dependency syndrome still lagging among them. Because these developing countries
are so poverty stricken, lack basic resources, proper governmental structures, a non existence of rules

disasters. Disaster in this sense is an event, focused in time and space in which societies suffer
extensive damages and injuries to property, natural landscape, infrastructure and massive loss of lives

Pennsylvania in 1681. Both these colonies had many aspects in common but due to the fact that both
settlements had different beliefs, ideals, and contrasting opinions on society, they naturally separated
and created too completely different colonies. For example, John Winthrop was the minister and

This is shown greatly in John Winthrop s city upon a hill speech because during this he states that the
Puritans are above every other country and colony by saying, For we must consider that we shall be as
a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us. So that if we shall deal falsely with our God in
this work we have undertaken, and so cause Him to withdraw His present help from us, we shall be
made a story and a by word through the world (Winthrop, 1630). In other words, what Winthrop is
saying is that if the Puritans as a colony failed it would not only be an embarrassment but also because
they believed that God was upholding their colony they were being watched by every other country
and colony. This clearly shows that the Puritans wished to not only isolate themselves from the rest of
the world but also it shows that the Puritans thought of themselves as a higher caliber than others. This
is very contrasting to the Quakers for several reasons. This is because the Quakers were accepting of
all into their community unlike the Puritans and wished to not isolate themselves from other countries
and colonies but wanted to connect with them. For example, in William Penn s letter to the Native
Americans he states that it would

nowadays, the naturally formed fuels in the world are depleting. Within the limit of fifty years or
more, all the fuels found in the earth will be vanished. The main reason for this depletion is due to
increase in population and the production of vehicles. We the Engineers can overcome this by
developing a new generation vehicle called Solar Hybrid Vehicle. This vehicle can run through solar
energy as well as electricity. So only this is called as Solar Hybrid Vehicle. In last years, as a
consequence of the diffusion of Hybrid Electric Vehicles and to the growing recourse to renewable
sources, increasing attention is being given to the integration of these vehicles with photovoltaic
panels. Hybrid Solar Vehicles might represent a valuable solution to face both energy saving and
environmental issues, particularly in case of intermittent use in urban conditions, but relatively little
research effort has been spent in this direction. Here it is proposed to have a parabolic point focusing
type solar collector to receive the energy. This paper mainly aims at the usage of

The Montessori Method
In order to discuss the suitability of the Montessori Method to the revised primary school curriculum,
one must gain some understanding of both. This essay will briefly explore the revised primary
curriculum, the Montessori Method and finally discuss the suitability of the Montessori Method in
teaching the new curriculum.
The revised Primary School Curriculum (1999) developed as a result of input from the Review Body
on the Primary Curriculum (1990), the National Convention on Education (1994) and the White Paper
on Education (1994). It considers the Philosophical ethos of Curriculum Na Bunscoile and is guided
by the Education Act (1998). It is in fact an amalgamation of current educational thinking and the

In John Holt s very interesting book How Children Fail (1966 ) he poses the concept that although
children love learning they don t like being thought. He argues children thought in traditional ways
become unintelligent (p56). They strive for teacher approval by focusing importance on getting the
right answer; mechanisms such as reflecting and having an enquiring mind are supressed. Holts (1966)
suggests children had to teach him before he could begin to teach them (p.22), he emphasises the
importance of teachers observing, listening, and encouraging creative ways of being. This philosophy
sits very comfortably with the Montessori Method of teaching. As mentioned earlier directors must be
a guide observing children in their work. The new Primary School Curriculum calls for this approach
in that it promotes the development of children s capacity for creative expression and response

Reflection On Quality And Safety
QUALITY AND SAFETY: REFLECTION.
QUALITY AND SAFETY: DEVELOPMENT OF PROFESSIONAL DEFINITION.
The WGU nursing program helped me in developing my professional definition of quality and safety
by enlightening my understanding of root cause analysis, and system failures. The IHI course was an
eye opener in my understanding of quality improvement, and the processes required to enhance safety
and quality improvement. The courses that really assisted me in my definition include, the
Organizational Systems and Quality Leadership, the Leadership and Professional Image, and
Professional Roles and Values; and the Evidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research.
QUALITY AND SAFETY: ARTIFACT SUPPORT.
My papers from the leadership learning experience task, and organizational systems and quality
leadership task 2 are some of the artifacts that I have included in this portfolio to support my
definition of quality and safety.
QUALITY AND SAFETY: ARTIFACTS SUPPORTING DEFINITION.
My paper from leadership learning experience task, supports my definition of safety and quality by
demonstrating how I proposed project that would enhance the safety and quality of my clients who
were at risk of developing pressure ulcers. On the other hand, my paper from the organizational
systems and quality leadership task 2 support my definition of safety and quality by demonstrating my
capacity to coordinate root cause analysis, and designing projects that would enhance safety and
quality by correctly identified system failures.
QUALITY AND SAFETY: IMPORTANCE OF IHI CERTIFICATE.
My Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) certificate is an artifact that supports my capacity in
safety and quality improvement in healthcare. This course enlightened on my role as nurses in
enhancing safety and quality in my workplace. I have already proposed the need in including staff
nurses in the quality improvement committee to my employer. I believe I will be among the staff
nurses who will be sitting in the committee, and I am going to take the role of an informal leader and a
change agent in that committee. As an informal leader and a change agent, I will devote my energy in
refocusing the thinking of my colleagues, so that they are able to visualize

Vygotsky s Theory Of Cognitive Development
Learning Journal Entry 5 Theories of Cognitive Development (Vygotsky)
Unlike Piaget, Vygotsky alleged that adults play a fundamental role in the development of children as
they nurtured their learning in a premeditated way (McDevitt et al, 2013), rather than entrusting it to
natural processes. Vygotsky also believed that language played a primary responsibility in a child s
development, while Piaget excluded this from his theory (McDevitt et al, 2013). The social
experiences a child encounter along with conversations they have with others and themselves (self
talk), greatly influences their capacity to grow and learn. One of the benefits of Vygotsky s theory of
cognitive development is the Zone of Proximal development. Where children are frequently being
pressed to the limit of their comfort zones within learning in order of forward progression (McDevitt
et al, 2013).
In Vygotsky s theory, he developed nine key ideas. These ideas include:
Key Principles General Description
1. Some cognitive processes are seen in a variety of species; others are unique to human beings
(McDevitt et al, 2013, p.220). Vygotsky held belief that there is two different mental functions that
species exhibit (lower and higher) (McDevitt et al, 2013). He explained that many species demonstrate
lower mental functions (determining which foods to eat), unlike human beings which are unique in
their use of higher

that it s happened I guess I m just about the best bank robber they ever had. And I sure am happy. John
Dillinger started his life with a traumatizing event that led him to commiting crimes at a young age.
Since he was used to breaking the law he was doing this all throughout his life either by himself or
with his gang, without a second thought. John Dillinger was a misunderstood criminal of the nineteen
thirties because of his mother s death he acted out at a young age causing him to be neglected by his

A Separate Peace Poem Analysis
Peace is the absence of hostilities, such as war, self doubt and guilt, disagreements with others,
internal bitterness, and sickness. In the novel A Separate Peace, WW2 is raging in Europe and in the
Pacific with men dying by the thousands each month, yet at the Vermont preparatory school of Devon
a peace independent of the War exists where there at is no fear of death, loss of one s sanity and
conscience, and fear of degradation. This is all until a cloud of hostility forms over Devon and over
the lives of the two main characters, Gene and Finny. Many times over the course of the novel, this
cloud of hostility parts over the skies of Devon allowing for Peace to shine over the school and the
boys, but only temporarily until the cloud of hostility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time there are no hostilities between Gene and Finny as there is nothing which could
create hostilities due to the lack of academics, athletics, stress, students, and competition. However, as
the summer season ends, the fall season starts in full swing and with it comes all of the strict
headmasters, fall sports, and 700 students arriving for the new school year. The start of the fall season
marks the first breakdown of peace between Finny and Gene as competition between them erupts.
This competition is mostly marked by Gene s jealousy over Finny s athletic ability and popularity in
relation to his. During this time, both desire to just be friends, but Gene in particular has trouble
overcoming his hostility, making the pursuit of peace seem difficult very difficult. This is very similar
to how the main character in the poem Peace by George Herbert had extreme difficulty finding peace
at first as he was unable to search deep enough and let the hostility wear away. The real tipping point
in the novel is when Gene breaks the branch in the tree that Finny was standing on, causing him to fall
and shatter his leg. This at first causes a massive hostility between them as Finny is very bitter about
Gene causing his injury but this time Gene is extremely sorry for it and he

James Bond s 1964 Aston Martin Db5
Classic Car

James Bond s 1964 Aston Martin DB5. It is the classic car best known for representation in movies
and is recognizable across the world of vehicle enthusiasts. It has left its mark on history. The same
can be said for the Mercedes 1957 300SL Gullwing, a production car that was one of the fastest and
most eye catching vehicles of its time. Indeed, these types of classic cars are from a bygone era.
Today, they are auctioned off for millions of dollars and stand as a heritage of a different period.
However, they are not alone in this mission. There are hundreds if not thousands of cars that can be
considered classic, with many being far less cumbersome on a bank account to own. In fact, ones like
Austin s 1961 Mini Cooper S, for instance, are miniaturized versions of some of their bigger brothers.
The Mini has served as an ever growing symbol of the classic car era, with over 5,000,000
international sales of its iterated versions.
Whether you are interested in the loud V12s and beautiful aesthetics, or the more compact and
purposeful classic cars, the bottom line is that by investing in a classic car, you are investing in a slice
of history and in a slice of art. While today there has become a culture of upgrading and tuning more
widely available and cheap production cars, there is still that pure hearted, nostalgic interest in the art
of old. Yet, the goal amongst these two different groups is the same: they are there to admire and
appreciate

Essay about Employee Empowerment in Flat Organizations
Employee Empowerment in Flat Organizations
A flat organization is a culture of ownership and partnership, it is an organization that uses teams to
increase efficiency, responsiveness and flexibility. The focus is on customer satisfaction, work is

have been delegated the power to think for the whole company.

By lending structure, it facilitates the identification and resolution of problems that can arise during
the course of the decision making process. This facilitation in turn can assist in improving the group
decision making process. Group decision making is the process of arriving at a judgment based upon
the feedback of more than one individual. Group decision making is a key component to the
functioning of a Flat organization, because organizational performance involves more than just
individual action. Besides having good processes for decision making, employees need to realize that
the immediate managers are the key link to communication. Managers serve the organization by
creating understanding; managers are now coaches not bosses.
Managers need to develop listening skills so they can learn about their employees. Knowing their
employees will help the manager?s structure, motivate and delegate their team members. The
performance of the team relates directly to the performance of the manager. The performance of the
employees relates to their skills and knowledge, both which can be taught. When the manager knows
their employees they will know what skills and knowledge their employees possess. Knowing what
the employees lack, will allow the manager to conduct training and learning programs appropriately.
While the employee is gaining the knowledge he lacks, the manager can assign them jobs that will line
up with their strengths.

The Drug For Treating Bacterial Infections
LITERATURE REVIEW β lactam antibiotics have continued to be the most popular drug for treating
bacterial infections since its discovery in 1928 by Fleming and its introduction as an antibacterial
agent in the early 1950.1 Most commonly used β lactam drugs today stems from the original
discovery and development of natural products from microorganisms like penicillin, cephalosporin
and other β lactam based antibiotics (Figure 1). 1,2 However, soon after its commercialization and
widespread usage, β lactamase secreting penicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus were
isolated.3 The introduction of methicillin (a β lactamase insensitive semi synthetic penicillin), to curb
the resistance problem resulted in the evolution of another resistant strain known as methicillin
resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).4 Figure 1: Some β lactam antibiotics
Resistance to β lactams is easy for bacteria as all β lactams shared the same mode of action, which is
the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis by forming stable covalent adducts with the active site
serine residues of penicillin binding proteins (PBPs). The PBPS are often divided into two partitions;
the high molecular weight PBPs (HMW PBPs) and the low molecular weight PBPs (LMW PBPs). The
HMW PBPs are further divided in two classes, A and B, while the LMW PBPs are divided in four
subclasses based on their tertiary structures. Figure 2 shows the reactions between natural substrates, β
lactams and transition state

Theme Of Revenge In The Spirit Of The Rainforest
Spirit of the Rainforest delivers an engaging tale of Yanomamo life through the eyes of Jungleman, a
powerful shaman in Venezuela. The novel presents a disturbing sampling of spirit warfare scenes,
detailing the transformation of some Yanomami people while initiating a transformation in the
worldview of its readers. Members of the culture engage in an endless cycle of slaughtering each other
in the name of hatred. The motif of Vengeance lingers throughout the novel. It s motivated by the
spirits of the rainforest and causes enormous chaos until it is thwarted by the peace given by Yai Pada
(God). Spirit of the Rainforest and recent research demonstrate the necessity of forgiveness for
personal growth and their relation to the spirit realm.
According to the accounts recorded in Spirit of the Rainforest, blood revenge is a prevalent motivator
of Yanomamo killings. The Oxford English Dictionary defines revenge as both an act and a desire. In
the act of revenge, individuals respond to a wrong by harming the transgressor. Revenge can also refer
to the urge to pay back wrongs; thus, a person can have revenge in his heart (Schumann). The desire
for vengeance resulting in murder weaves throughout the novel. Oftentimes, before the genesis of a
great conflict, a Yanomamo witnesses the death of relative, allows anger to fester inside of him,
dreams of revenge, then follows the promptings of a spirit to go and commit heinous crimes. This
ultimately results in celebration immediately followed by fear, unrest, and chaos. Thus, the cycle of
vengeance and grief spirals on in accordance with the will of the evil spirits. One example of this
cycle can be found in the story of Hairy and Yellowflower. After Yellowflower s sister dies, Hairy
forces her to marry him. After she repeatedly runs away Hairy murders her in the jungle. Then, her
brothers come to avenge her death by beating Hairy s brother, which results in his death. So, Hairy
travels back to her village and when he got there, they killed that brother and their grief was satisfied
(Ritchie, 106). However, despite the satisfaction Hairy initially feels, his memories of killing
Yellowflower haunt him. Soon, his nights are consumed with nightmares and he can no

Edward s Life Had Been Perfect
Edward slowly stalked out of the dark, dusty cell. A guard lay motionless next to the open door, his
throat slit and his face drained of color. He had been trapped in the tiny room for months and he was
finally free. He inhaled deeply, taking in the ancient, musty air. The corridor that contained his cell
was dark, damp, and humid. There were streaks of red along the walls, most likely due to the massive
iron deposits above his underground prison. Edward took all of this in as he crept through the unlit
hallway, a small, jagged piece of bloody glass in hand. Seven years ago, Edward s life had been
perfect. He was healthy, rich, and respected. Many people looked up to him and he had no enemies. At

gladly put a lead bullet into your privileged little skull. The rest of the car ride was dead silent.
Eventually, the car slowly came to a halt. He heard the 2 men in the front of the car shift in their seats.
Hey, he said, what are you Edward heard a dull thud and was knocked backward. The last things he
could remember were feeling a sharp, stinging pain in the front of his skull and slowly losing
consciousness. When he awoke, Edward noticed a throbbing pain in his head. He couldn t see

his back, his arms were bound with rope, and his feet were lashed together. His body was completely
immobilized. Behind him, Edward could hear some men whispering and metal scraping against the
floor. He strained to hear what they were discussing until his blindfold was removed. His eyes were
immediately blinded by the sudden reintroduction to the light and he instinctively shut them. When
they readjusted, Edward s eyes saw an extraordinary sight; he was in what appeared to be an

  • 2. Theme Of Flash Fiction Stephan King once stated, We make up horror to help us cope with the real ones. The three texts, The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, The Nicest Kid in the Universe by Chuck Rosenthal, and Charlotte s Back by Sydney Kennedy, all include this theme of horror. Horror is this intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust and many authors choice this feel for their stories because there is such a demand for it. We all have this built up fear and horror and movies and books include horror give us an away to release it. Many authors, like these three, choice to place horror into flash fiction. Kennedy also borrowed the train crash which she transformed to a car crash, which both resulted in death. In the text it states, It was he who had been in the newspaper office when intelligence of the railroad disaster was received, with Brently Mallard s name leading the list killed. This quote shows how Kennedy effectively took the train accident, and turned into a fatal car crash, which in this day in age is more relevant. She cohesively included both borrowed elements quite effectively. In Charlotte s Back it indicates a sense of fear and horror in the reader. For example, the text states, She was covered in blood, her eyes were red, and her pink dress was cut and mangled. This quote explains how Kennedy included graphic elements and descriptions to frighten the reader. Gothic elements and were also included into the the work. The gloomy ad ominous setting of the insane asylum gave off a mysterious and gothic feel. Kennedy also included supernatural elements to hit on the the horror genre. Charlotte reappeared as a ghost and came back to haunt and kill her father, which fits right into the gothic feel of the story. These gothic elements, such as the ghost, are also some of Kennedy s childhood fears. She once stated in an interview that she always believed as a child that her baby dolls moved and were real. It even got to the point where she had to throw them away. She used this childhood fear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Descriptive Essay On Rockefeller Chapel Rockefeller Chapel is an enormous space neither religious nor secular, but teetering on the rims of both in its uses as a prayer hall, concert space, and location for the College s convocation ceremony. On April 22nd, 2017, the chapel is used as a divine space, bringing two religions, two cultures, and numerous ethnicities together in A Meeting of Two Seas, a concert celebrating the contributions of Hindus and Muslims to the arts of South Asia. As a performer, I enter Rockefeller Chapel through its West Entrance, two hours before the concert begins for a quick rehearsal and sound check I am an insider, not only as a Carnatic vocalist, but as a Hindu, who has observed the rifts between Hindus and Muslims, which have lasted seemingly through antiquity. Through the concert, I hope to observe a beautiful amalgamation of these two religions and cultures and possibly, see the rifts begin to subside. Before guests begin to usher in, I take a seat in the front row next to my friends and fellow performers and prepare to take notes for my sketch. My friends giggle and chatter about their daily struggles, tuning out the sitar music playing softly in the background, but I tell them to quiet down so that I can pay attention during the concert. After a brief introduction from co hosts Nikhil and Nur Banu, Minu Pasupathi, one of my South Asian Music Ensemble (SAME) directors, ascends the stage to perform the first act, an assemblage of two unconventional Carnatic pieces: Allahvai ... Here scratchpad use as storage which has advantage over normal cache. Because normal cache organization is attached tag check, associatively, line size, speculative read, etc and cache conflicts which are overhead. The efficient alternative, scratchpad, is used in VLIW processors though it tough to compile for. • 5. The Evolution of Islamic Finance and Financial Institutions The evolution of Islamic finance now takes place in most of the countries, whether in Muslim countries or non Muslim countries. Islamic finance institutions perform the same essential functions as financial institutions do in the conventional system, except that there is a need for them to carry out their transactions in accordance with the rules and principles of Islam. One of the most growing parts of the Islamic finance is Islamic equity market. In principle, Islamic equity market is characterized by the absence of interest based transactions, doubtful transactions and unlawful stocks of companies which deal in non shariah compliance activities or items. Its market activities must be free from any of unethical or immoral elements. The emergence of several Islamic indices such as the Dow Jones Islamic index has offered better screening processes to both Muslim and non Muslims investors. The existence of the shariah screening process in the stock market will enable Muslim investors to invest into companies that run the permissible activities in the businesses. The Dow Jones Islamic Market Index (DJIM), launched in 1999 in Bahrain, was first benchmark to represent Islamic compliant portfolios and for investors seeking investments in compliance with Muslim Shariah law. The DJIM in essence is a specialized ethical index that screens out prohibited stocks, as defined by Shariah law, and it is monitored by Muslim scholars. It follows an insomniac (Edward Norton), who becomes discontented with his white collar job and forms an underground fight club with the eccentric Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). (Figure 3.1) Tyler spliced frames in Fight Club, this technique foreshadows Tyler s habit of splicing explicit imagery into family films. Throughout the opening twenty to thirty minutes of the film, until his full introduction, Tyler is implanted in single frames at moments where he would reflect what the Narrator would want to become (fig 3.1) such as at the self help groups the Narrator occupies his time with due to his insomnia, showing that the Narrator is still formulating the personality. This technique is alluded to during Tyler s montage showing his night jobs, where he cuts single frames of pornographic movies into family movies. Manley Pointer could just be looked at as a low time criminal stealing from those less fortunate. Manley s goal was just to steal Hulga s prosthetic leg and this man had no remorse because this was not his first time leading somebody on like Hulga, he even says, One time I got a woman s glass eye this way (Connor 9). The Misfit is much more aggressive than Manley though. The Misfit was wrongfully accused of the murder of his father and was incarcerated unfairly. • 10. Gun Ownership Pros And Cons Carrying or owning a gun has a lot of pros along with a lot of cons. Why some see the necessity of owning a gun for reasoning from hunting game to house security, I personally do not have a true reason to own one. Owning a gun has much more responsibility than I care to have by spending a fair amount of money and time for an item that has little to no use for me and would not make me safe. The legality of owning a gun far exceeds the mental health of the owner, few things non gun owners know and what all gun owners should know. A lot of gun owners will say that non gun owners have little say as to why one should not own guns, well I can say that gun owning and sales can go far greater than a few old white men at Cabela s talking about the how the AR can have a swapped .223 barrel to a .556 barrel and how the overload of attachments can put on the gun with rails. When writing this originally I thought to research a tad to fully understand guns and the legality of them, until I came across how some states require one to have the firearm locked up in one s house in case little kids go wondering around the house and happen to stumbles across a firearm and accidently fires it because the horrid gun owner did not just leave the gun out but also had a clip ready. As I continued my research on locking up guns, I saw some states and insurance companies require one to own a certified gun safe in order to own x amount of guns. This struck me, personally I m a big safe owner. I have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Trainspotting Film Analysis Essay Trainspotting presents an ostensible image of fractured society. The 1996 film opens, famously, with a series of postulated choices—variables, essentially, in the delineation of identity and opposition. Significant here is the tone in which these options are delivered—it might be considered the rhetorical voice of society, a playful exposition of the pressure placed on individuals to make the correct choices, to conform to expectation. As such, the introduction might be read as contributing to the formation of two narrative constructs: that of normality —or at least that considered normality by prevailing ideology—and that of subnormality, the remainder. In its uncompromising rejection of the former, the commentary of Ewan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These subcultures operate because the world around them is open to interpretation, and if an interpretation is justified, it is arguably as valid as one which directly opposes it. The imposition of a universal set of values, like that of the law, for example, is a product of power—and, liberally speaking, an injustice. Renton notes that his mother, on tranquillisers, is, in her own socially acceptable way, also a drug addict. Because these particular characters choice of lifestyle conflict with that of the dominant order, they are marginalised—forced to live in squalor and filth. This is something signified in the mise en scene: theirs is a world of repugnant toilets; of splattered walls, doors and floors; of soiled bed sheets; of buckets for urine, vomittus and faeces. Fittingly, there is an equally strong argument to the contrary. Begbie proves an unreliable narrator, yet appears to act without conscience or consequence; Sick Boy, portrayed early on as a closet philosopher, is rendered mute after the death of his son. Some things are above and beyond words. Similarly, despite its apparent emphasis on the relationship between power and subjectivity, the film does pronounce ultimate ethical judgements, as I will describe in a moment. Trainspotting essentially refuses to make up its mind. At the film s close, Renton s betrayal of his friends is completely rationalised away. Were his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vygotsky s Theory Of Cognitive Development Learning Journal Entry 5 Theories of Cognitive Development (Vygotsky) Unlike Piaget, Vygotsky alleged that adults play a fundamental role in the development of children as they nurtured their learning in a premeditated way (McDevitt et al, 2013), rather than entrusting it to natural processes. Vygotsky also believed that language played a primary responsibility in a child s development, while Piaget excluded this from his theory (McDevitt et al, 2013). The social experiences a child encounter along with conversations they have with others and themselves (self talk), greatly influences their capacity to grow and learn. One of the benefits of Vygotsky s theory of cognitive development is the Zone of Proximal development. Where children are frequently being pressed to the limit of their comfort zones within learning in order of forward progression (McDevitt et al, 2013). In Vygotsky s theory, he developed nine key ideas. These ideas include: Key Principles General Description 1. However, they are not alone in this mission. There are hundreds if not thousands of cars that can be considered classic, with many being far less cumbersome on a bank account to own. In fact, ones like Austin s 1961 Mini Cooper S, for instance, are miniaturized versions of some of their bigger brothers. The Mini has served as an ever growing symbol of the classic car era, with over 5,000,000 international sales of its iterated versions. Whether you are interested in the loud V12s and beautiful aesthetics, or the more compact and purposeful classic cars, the bottom line is that by investing in a classic car, you are investing in a slice of history and in a slice of art. While today there has become a culture of upgrading and tuning more widely available and cheap production cars, there is still that pure hearted, nostalgic interest in the art of old. Yet, the goal amongst these two different groups is the same: they are there to admire and appreciate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Drug For Treating Bacterial Infections LITERATURE REVIEW β lactam antibiotics have continued to be the most popular drug for treating bacterial infections since its discovery in 1928 by Fleming and its introduction as an antibacterial agent in the early 1950.1 Most commonly used β lactam drugs today stems from the original discovery and development of natural products from microorganisms like penicillin, cephalosporin and other β lactam based antibiotics (Figure 1). 1,2 However, soon after its commercialization and widespread usage, β lactamase secreting penicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus were isolated.3 The introduction of methicillin (a β lactamase insensitive semi synthetic penicillin), to curb the resistance problem resulted in the evolution of another resistant strain known as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).4 Figure 1: Some β lactam antibiotics Resistance to β lactams is easy for bacteria as all β lactams shared the same mode of action, which is the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis by forming stable covalent adducts with the active site serine residues of penicillin binding proteins (PBPs). The PBPS are often divided into two partitions; the high molecular weight PBPs (HMW PBPs) and the low molecular weight PBPs (LMW PBPs). The HMW PBPs are further divided in two classes, A and B, while the LMW PBPs are divided in four subclasses based on their tertiary structures. • 38. Theme Of Revenge In The Spirit Of The Rainforest Spirit of the Rainforest delivers an engaging tale of Yanomamo life through the eyes of Jungleman, a powerful shaman in Venezuela. The novel presents a disturbing sampling of spirit warfare scenes, detailing the transformation of some Yanomami people while initiating a transformation in the worldview of its readers. Members of the culture engage in an endless cycle of slaughtering each other in the name of hatred. The motif of Vengeance lingers throughout the novel. It s motivated by the spirits of the rainforest and causes enormous chaos until it is thwarted by the peace given by Yai Pada (God). Spirit of the Rainforest and recent research demonstrate the necessity of forgiveness for personal growth and their relation to the spirit realm. According to the accounts recorded in Spirit of the Rainforest, blood revenge is a prevalent motivator of Yanomamo killings. The Oxford English Dictionary defines revenge as both an act and a desire. In the act of revenge, individuals respond to a wrong by harming the transgressor. Revenge can also refer to the urge to pay back wrongs; thus, a person can have revenge in his heart (Schumann). The desire for vengeance resulting in murder weaves throughout the novel. Oftentimes, before the genesis of a great conflict, a Yanomamo witnesses the death of relative, allows anger to fester inside of him, dreams of revenge, then follows the promptings of a spirit to go and commit heinous crimes. This ultimately results in celebration immediately followed by fear, unrest, and chaos. Thus, the cycle of vengeance and grief spirals on in accordance with the will of the evil spirits. One example of this cycle can be found in the story of Hairy and Yellowflower. After Yellowflower s sister dies, Hairy forces her to marry him. After she repeatedly runs away Hairy murders her in the jungle. Then, her brothers come to avenge her death by beating Hairy s brother, which results in his death. So, Hairy travels back to her village and when he got there, they killed that brother and their grief was satisfied (Ritchie, 106). However, despite the satisfaction Hairy initially feels, his memories of killing Yellowflower haunt him. Soon, his nights are consumed with nightmares and he can no ... • 39. Edward s Life Had Been Perfect Edward slowly stalked out of the dark, dusty cell. A guard lay motionless next to the open door, his throat slit and his face drained of color. He had been trapped in the tiny room for months and he was finally free. He inhaled deeply, taking in the ancient, musty air. The corridor that contained his cell was dark, damp, and humid. There were streaks of red along the walls, most likely due to the massive iron deposits above his underground prison. Edward took all of this in as he crept through the unlit hallway, a small, jagged piece of bloody glass in hand. Seven years ago, Edward s life had been perfect. He was healthy, rich, and respected. Many people looked up to him and he had no enemies. At least, he thought that he had no enemies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of his kidnappers calmly replied, You had better not say anything else. Otherwise, my friend here will gladly put a lead bullet into your privileged little skull. The rest of the car ride was dead silent. Eventually, the car slowly came to a halt. He heard the 2 men in the front of the car shift in their seats. Hey, he said, what are you Edward heard a dull thud and was knocked backward. The last things he could remember were feeling a sharp, stinging pain in the front of his skull and slowly losing consciousness. When he awoke, Edward noticed a throbbing pain in his head. He couldn t see anything, thanks to the blindfold, and couldn t say anything due to the gag. His hands were tied behind his back, his arms were bound with rope, and his feet were lashed together. His body was completely immobilized. Behind him, Edward could hear some men whispering and metal scraping against the floor. He strained to hear what they were discussing until his blindfold was removed. His eyes were immediately blinded by the sudden reintroduction to the light and he instinctively shut them. When they readjusted, Edward s eyes saw an extraordinary sight; he was in what appeared to be an underground city. His captors severed the rope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
