Advancing the Individual s Knowledge of the Holocaust Essay
By comparing, analyzing and questioning the validity of Maus I and II, Night, Night and Fog,
nonfictional historical accounts and a poem, called Already Embraced by the Arm of Heavenly Solace,
found in Europe in the Contemporary World, Schindler s List and the Return to Auschwitz we may
determine to what degree these sources serve to advance humanity s understanding of the holocaust.
The holocaust can be explained as the historical event in which the Nazi s, who came to power in
Germany in January 1933, and its collaborators murdered and persecuted approximately six million
Jews. This came about because of the German belief that they were racially superior and the Jews
were an alien threat to the German state. For humanity to advance in ... Show more content on

The conclusions of the various sources, brought on by the analysis of the issues above and by
comparing these sources to each other, determined that overall these sources have a high degree in
serving to further man s understanding of the holocaust.
By categorizing the two movies, Night and Fog and Schindler s List, together we are able to better
analyze and contrast the two similar yet different sources. First off, both these sources can be deemed
accountable because they use more than one source. The documentary, Night and Fog, uses two
different survivors of the holocaust as well as various other sources. Schindler s List also relied on
more than one person s account of the situation to write the movie s script. This is unlike the sources
such as Return to Auschwitz, written by the first hand account of Kitty Hart , and Night, written by
Elie Wiesel who also had first hand experiences , that depend on one person s account or report of the
situation to tell the story. However, the written work isn t used for entertainment purposes, like
Schindler s List is, and therefore is less likely to be changed to draw attention or gain financially.
Schindler s List is a famous movie used to

Facts About Viking Warfare
The Vikings were a group of people from Denmark, Sweden and Norway and lived from 700AD
1100AD. Most people think of Vikings as blood thirsty raiders who pillaged and killed innocent
people from one country to another , which this is true because they were ruthless in their battles and
had no mercy. So Tthis essay will talk about Viking warfare and how thistheir practices prove proves
that they were blood thirsty raiders. The Vikings battle tactics and warriors were ruthless, like their
berserk warriors. Berserk warriors were just that are where the term going berserk comes from, and
berserk means violently or destructively frenzied in their approach to fighting and warfare. In their
preparation for battle, So for the bBerserk warriors to go berserk they would drink a concoction made
from mushrooms, allowing them to then the next day they would be seen chargeing into battle biting
bits of their shield and not bothering with having wearing armour. The berserkers Berserkers were
believed to be blessed by Odin Odinand, and this along with their ingestion of mushrooms ensured
that they couldn t feel pain. This shows how blood thirsty they ... Show more content on

They did this by aligning their fleet into two lines and tying them together to create a floating platoon.
In the middle of the platoon were the kings and warlords. On the outside of the platoon were the
prows that took most of the heat of the battle, because of this they were reinforced with armour plates
and sometimes spikes to put holes in the enemies ships. They would then face the enemy fleet head on
and try to board them in a chaotic action. Javelins and sometimes even stones were thrown at the
enemy before they boarded the enemy ship. Given the fact that land battles were based on offense and
that the Vikings tried to make naval battles as close to land battles as possible, both land and naval
battle tactics show the true brutality of

Disadvantages Of Lingua Franca
A Lingua Franca; the Catalyst of International Debates
The term lingua franca is usually associated with languages; more precisely, any language that is
commonly used by people whose native language differentiates. In order to communicate, a common
language arises a lingua franca that is understood by all ethnic groups.
English is unequivocally the most important lingua franca in the world. There are several reasons as to
why it came to dominate world. The Brits; British imperialism was at it highest point during the 17th
and 20th century, spreading its culture like wildfire. The country oozed of power, taking over country
after country, maybe archipelagos, continents, spreading their ideologies, their parliament and even
their language. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The internet is a wide spectrum of all kinds of languages, but English is the fundamental language
used to communicate across borders. An advantage of having a global language is precisely this;
communication with multitudinous people that you could never communicate with if it wasn t for the
lingua franca.
The internet through a lingua franca uncovered cultures that you may not realise could be unknown if
it wasn t for the lingua franca. American movies, Hollywood, all the different TV series; these gems
could be hidden and unattainable. What about Indian culture, Bollywood or their fantastic food?
Maybe we wouldn t have Indian food in Norway or dance from the Spanish people. Or maybe
scientific research couldn t be traded across borders, resulting in today s technology not being as
advanced and developed as it is.
A global language isn t all sunshine and roses. Increased globalisation could lead to weakening or
eradication of other language. It is estimated that copious minor languages will disappear in the future.
However, it seems that countries with English as a native language is under greater threat of losing
their language or accent to the dominating party: American

Petrarch Sonnet Unrequited Love
Petrified Petrarch
Two hundred years had passed between the sonnets of Petrarch and the reign of Queen Elizabeth. As a
form and structure for poetic life, the sonnet had grown hard. Fourteen lines of rhymed iambic
pentameter remained pregnant with possibilities and vitality, but must the sense turn after the octave
and resolve in the sestet? Love remained in some ways inexpressible without this basic verse form, but
something wasn t right. Too many rose red lips and too much snow white skin belonging to
unattainable lovers did not communicate the prevailing amorous imagination. The conventions were a
little too conventional. The metaphors were gone somewhat stale.
The Reformation had intervened between the Italian Renaissance and ... Show more content on

One reads in Wyatt s sonnets about some justice in love; there is more than unrequited love and
enduring adoration and misery. His male lover expresses a desire to break out of his amorous prison.
This is an anti Petrarchan theme. This is the opposite of the hopelessly adoring pose of the enslaved
Petrarchan lover.
The opening sonnet in Astrophel and Stella begins Loving in truth, and fain in verse my love to show,/
That she, dear she, might take some pleasure of my pain (Longman 987). Sidney begins in imitation of
Petrarch in three ways. The poet s beloved is unkind; so he is plunged into despair. Sidney has also
adopted Petrarch s habit of self scrutiny. Thirdly the thought changes at the end of the eighth line. The
octave tells of the poet s futile efforts to write a poem; the sestet discloses why he had been
unsuccessful. The poet looks to the Petrarchan tradition for inspiration to cure his writer s block. Oft
turning other s leaves, to see if thence would flow/ Some fresh and fruitful showers upon my
sunburned brain (7 8). But this method is unproductive because it lacks the support of imagination.
But words came halting forth, wanting Invention s stay (9).
Sidney is employing the new English sonnet form developed by Surrey. This new structural scheme
divides the poem into three quatrains and a concluding couplet. The rhyme, abab cdcd efef gg, is
easier and more obvious to the ear. This structure is more

ADD and ADHD Essay
ADD and ADHD
Although American culture has changed over the years, parents today still want what is best for their
children. Why then, are parents allowing their children to be put on medications that may have an
adverse effect on their children? Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactive
Disorder (ADHD) have increasingly been diagnosed among young children today. Parents should
become more informed about the over diagnosing, side effects, results of the medication and all other
pertinent information before they allow their children to become treated. In this research paper we are
first going to look at why ADD and ADHD diagnosing has become so widespread. Then we will look
into the side effects of Ritalin; the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to new federal programs and funding, (in 1991 federal education I grant were changed to provide
schools with $400 per each student diagnosed with ADD) schools are now allocated with in school
clinics and psychologists to help determine if students have learning disabilities. As a result of these
new federal programs, and funding, schools today are no longer held responsible for a student s lack
of performance. Now schools have a new efficient system to protect themselves. It works like this: if a
child has trouble in math, he is deemed to have a mental disorder under code number 315.1
Mathematics Disorder, if a child can t write literature composition he/she must be suffering from code
315.2 Disorder in written Expression. (DeWeese) The list goes on and on and it is quite obvious that
schools are well protected.
Teachers also play a key role in the over diagnosing of ADD and ADHD. Teachers today, although
they only receive education up to a master s degree to teach in K 12th grade, have become psychiatric
doctors. Teachers are given lists of symptoms and unacceptable behaviors and instructed that if a
student fits into the category they are to be marked and labeled, and the paperwork should be written
up to begin their drug treatment. This may seem too outlandish to believe, but, I assure you this is how
we have allowed are school system to become.
Finally, I think that we need to look at the

The report will present a case between union supporting Toronto garbage collection employees against
the city of Toronto. With the current situation where strike action has been in place, approximately
28,000 employees will be off work. Unfortunately, communication on the both side has not been
successful and an arbitration has been arranged to hear the proposition of both sides and to come with
a possible solution to prevent further action which could cost the city in many ways. The purpose of
this report is to understand the process on how the negotiation especially in a more legal environment
collective bargaining happens. The negotiation is at the stage of arbitration. First part will brief the
negotiation and bargaining process. Role play gives a feel of live experience in the learning
environment where each participant will address their responsibility and self reflection is presented
throughout the report. The aim is to decide on the starting positions and the bottom lines, or lowest
point of each party will accept the deal. Consider the objectives and emotional motivation of each
party. Listen to a sequence of proposals and possible counter proposals. Negotiations Being successful
at negotiating requires one to consider the various styles: win win, win lose, lose win, lose lose, no

and white policemen pull them over. The black policeman, Officer Coffey, has both Ricky and Tre

Officer Coffey retorts, You think you tough? He then pulls out his gun, points it at Ricky s face, and

Summary Of Jacob Bronowski s The Reach Of Imagination
Jacob Bronowski s 1966 speech, The Reach of Imagination, provides an early theory that humans are
the only beings capable of imagination. This theory relies on the cognitive function of visual images;
while it is suggestive, Bronowski does not give an in depth representation of the memory that explains
how and why it works. However, Daniel Schacter provides an updated theory, closely related to
Bronowski, of how the brain can form and retrieve memories. Schacter adds on to Bronowski s theory
and shows exactly how people remember and interpret things differently. Though Bronowski s claim
is aged, it is still supported by Daniel Schacter s theory behind the human brain and how memories are
retrieved in fragments. In order to understand the objectives of Bronowski, it is crucial to be aware of
the rhetorical context. The Reach of Imagination is a speech which was delivered as the Blashfield
Address to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1966. The speech was given to an audience
of top class artists and poets to argue that all humans are capable of imagination, which is where
memory is derived from. This is done by referring to an experiment performed by Walter Hunter, who
tested the memory of dogs by placing them in cages with tunnels as escape routes. A light would flash
above the exit tunnel, which the dogs would follow immediately. However, after making the dogs
wait, it became evident that they were incapable of remembering the correct route. The experiment

My Village Life
Growing up in the city of Lagos Nigeria where everything is immensely distinct in comparison with
parts of the country with a fast pace flow of things, with people from every ethnic group and religion
you could never feel isolated in Lagos it almost reminds me of New York City vibe filled with
clustered building and congested with an abundance of people. One evening we received news that we
would be heading to the village to visit family and at last go, to the farm we heard so much about my
dad is from the village known as IVIUKHUA which is located in Edo state nicknamed the heartbeat of
Nigeria. See compared to the city life the village life was rough but my grandparents seem to love it
and I remember visiting them ever so often you know you know you were in the village once you start
to notice the absence of electricity poles that alone gives you an idea of what a day to day would be in
the village. The village consisted of several walking distance towns and villagers tend to spend their
everyday lives tending to their crops in farms. I learned so much in such a short time at the farm
It was a lovely Sunday morning on August 7, 2005 it was a much anticipated trip filled with
excitement and joy it was about six of us (my mother, father, siblings, our driver and I ) all dressed in
protective gear drenched in bug spray to prevent mosquito bites, at the time malaria was very
common. We were riding in a white Isuzu 4wd drive 2000 model pickup truck which I remember

How Does Fitzgerald Use Seasons In The Great Gatsby
The time of seasons may corresponds to those numerous situations one may face in their life.
Literature utilizes the surroundings of a character to foreshadow events or to represent a deeper
understanding of characters. In Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, the incorporation of a specific
setting causes the characters to react to the effects in the novel directly corresponds toward the major
situations. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald utilizes the change of seasons for the audience can have a
better understanding of the sudden transitions in the novel. The progression of the seasons can
foreshadow the journey and fate of a specific character such as Gatsby. When Gatsby reunites with
Daisy for the first time over four years; there was an awkward tension between the two. Although, the
time of season was spring, during this event, it was raining; thus emphasizing the mood. Generally,

How Did The Cold War Affect The Cold War
The Cold War was one of the most crucial events in shaping Canada during the twentieth century.
Lasting from the latter half of the 1940s to the 1990s, the effects of the Cold War on Canadian society
and politics were far ranging and long lasting. Throughout these years, many social changes were
implemented, dramatically shaping modern Canada. The most important social changes, however,
took place during the 1960s. This was a decade of turbulent and significant social change. During
these years, homosexual acts were legalized, Quebec experienced a period of immense revolution, and
second wave feminism was established. In the modern era, Canada is often praised for its inclusivity
and acceptance. However, the country has not always been this way. In the late 1950s to early 1960s,
Canada faced a period of extreme homophobia: the Gay Purge. This was one of the longest and the
most harmful campaigns of discrimination conducted by the federal government against the LGBT
community . The motive of this campaign was to identify and purge LGBT Federal Public Servants on
the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression in the Federal Public Service
and military. The idea of this purge did not originate in Canada, rather it was adopted from the United
States. However, the RCMP did adopt the crusade against homosexuality with alacrity, so much so
that the mounties became the activists on this case . Ostensibly, homosexuality was a security risk

Opposing Views About Islamic Pop Music
Islamic Pop Music
Middle Eastern Pop music is extremely popular. However, the dominant theme to most of the Pop
songs is love and romance. Many believed that religious Pop music, which concentrates on faith and
good human virtues, has a place in the market. Islamic Pop music is one of the best alternatives for the
youth to drift their minds away from the forbidden content found in some Pop music. In addition,
Islam was poorly portrayed in the media. Islamic Pop music plays a very significant role in correcting
that image and changing people s perspectives about Islam. Islamic Pop music is a combination of
spiritual faith and modern ecstasy. It is the voice of the new generation that is characterized by
meaningfulness, inspiration, and entertainment.

Case Study Of Barclays
3.6.2 Barclays Case study
3.6.2.1 Barclays: Historical Perspective on the British giant
Throughout the history of multinational banking, British banks have retained large market shares in a
variety of countries over long periods of time (Jones, 1990 and Wilkins, 1970). As outlined at the
initial stage of this dissertation, CSR as a concept appeared for the first time in the 1950s (Bowen,
1953). On that basis, this sub section will focus on a historical perspective of Barclays from the post
war period onwards. The main banking strategies of the post war period (1945 1980) emphasized
geographical diversification. Barclays established branches overseas on the grounds that British
multinational manufacturers would need the dynamic assistance of British banks in the post war
world. By establishing foreign branches, Barclays signalled to its clients that it was willing to
guarantee all its global assets for local activities. Moreover, several banks established development
corporations, with the intention of providing credit facilities in developing economies ... Show more

expansion in the markets of developed economies and emphasis on investment, rather than on retail
banking. Regarding the Asian market, Barclays was devoted to the narrow product service offering. In

Design Of Image Capture, Display, Colour Processing And...
INTRODUCTION
Aim: Throughout this laboratory we aimed to understand the processes used to achieve the
development of image capture, display, colour processing and finally object tracking. In particular, we
aim to learn the I2C protocols to program the registers used to configure the camera, how to convert a
raw image to a full colour image, detect a selected colour and then track it.
Block Diagrams and images for the image processing steps:
The block diagram in Figure 1, illustrates the processing blocks that were created to being the image
processing steps. It also shows the variables created in the code and how they interact to produce the
initial output of display an image from the camera to the screen. The clock for the 640x480 (frame
size 800x525) display image runs at a frequency of 25.2 MHz and the clock for the camera runs at a
frequency of 48.825 MHz to synchronize the display. The I2C setup, involves using I2C protocols to
program registers within the camera. It is a two wire protocol, where one wire acts as the clock to pass
from the FPGA to the device, and the other wire is the data wire which is bidirectional. The data wire
is a top level entity and requires the setup module to have 3 data connections. These are input data
from the camera to the controller, output data from the FPGA controller to the camera and output
enable (tristate control), which determines whether the data is input or output.
Producing the image on the VGA display, involves using

Control The Wildfires Of Alberta Canada
Humans maintain the park and influence mandatory controlled fires as well as control the wildfires.
Wildfires are required to burn in order to keep the ecosystem in check. In Banff National Park, these
fires burn in old growth areas. Once the fire is burned out it leaves nutrients in the soil to aid in
regrowth for future plants. After the fire Grizzly Bears rummage through the now loose and nutrient
rich soil for certain roots that are apart of their diets. These roots are only accessible to the Grizzly
Bear after a fire has cleared out the forest. Once regeneration starts, the nutrients in the soil allow
other food sources to begin growth and bears start to forage for them. The cycle continues once the
forest has regrown. Banff National Park in Alberta Canada has a very interesting climate. The study
site only a few miles away from the city of Banff resides on the front ranges of the Rocky Mountains.
The Continental Divide is only 45 km (28 miles) west of the study location. The climate around the
park as a whole is interesting. It is commonly known to be completely different weather at varying
temperatures all over the park. Throughout the day, the weather frequently changes dramatically.
Areas studied included dry meadows, shrub fields and shrub lands, open or immature forest and
mature forests. All of which have a nutrient rich post wildfire soil. The forests are primarily spruce,
lodgepole pine, subalpine fir and alpine larch. The town of Banff is the climate

Theme Of Identity In A View From The Bridge
You re a blank, a cipher... a zero. (Albee, 1962, p.18). With these words, Martha the main character in
Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? showed her husband, George, that he was nothing. Edward Albee,
the writer of Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? talked mainly about Martha and George who pretend to

Ionic Bond Lab
Ionic bonds form by the nature of the atoms themselves. When the atoms chemically combine
together, the atoms create a compound that has different properties. The electronegativity between the
atoms in the bond determines what type it is. Atoms with higher electronegativity hold atoms more
tightly than those with a lower electronegativity. Therefore, when two elements bond, they must fill

Fun Home Research Paper
To be honest, I was shocked when I first received Fun Home: A Family Tragic in the mail. Not only
was I relatively unfamiliar with the subject matter when I skimmed throughout as my parents peered
over my shoulder, but all of us were shocked that my first college reading assignment would be a
graphic novel. My mother loves reading, but she is older and a bit traditional in some ways; initially
she was quite disappointed. I remember her whispering to my dad, Why would they send a comic
book? , but as an open minded person she ended up reading the book before I managed to and warned
me that although the novel was interesting it was quite a handful. I silently scoffed, but then
remembered my troubles with the graphic novel Maus. Neither of us ... Show more content on

However, I can t say that I know much about gays, lesbians, or homosexuality in itself. I ve always
been very tolerant of others as that s how I was raised and I feel that is the rational way to behave as
well, but the only homosexual people that I am at all close to are a lesbian couple that I have known
from birth and a bisexual girl in the past that I briefly had a fling with. I love the lesbian couple, but
their homosexuality is in no way part of my relationship with them. This may sound a bit odd or
confusing, but I will explain. My best friend growing up was black and race was a significant part of
our friendship. We didn t pretend to be color blind, instead celebrating (or unfortunately in our
younger ages deriding) each others backgrounds. After reading Fun Home I think that acknowledging
or maybe even delving into our differences in sexuality may be a fruitful endeavor. It now seems so
weird to me that someone I was with actually mentioned they were bi and we never engaged in one
discussion about sexuality. Although I am a tolerant individual I ve always shied away from
discussing sexuality, hopefully by attending Vassar my hesitance will be diminished. Fun Home is like

Hamlet Movie Vs Play
The play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is about a king that was murdered by his brother and the
main character Hamlet, who is the prince and also the king s son was told by the ghost of his father to
avenge his murder. In the play Hamlet, there are many differences compared to the movie Hamlet
2000 directed by Michael Almereyda. The reason to these differences is to show a modern setting in
the movie Hamlet 2000 , to show the audience a better understanding of the characters, and the
difference in the way the movie ends compared to the original play by Shakespeare.
The first difference is the setting compared to the play and the movie. In the original play the setting
takes place in Elsinore, Denmark in the royal palace in the late Middle Ages around the 14th and 15th
century. The play starts off with the guards in the castle and Horatio who is one of the guards is the
first to see the ghost. But as shown in the movie the setting starts off in New York City in the 2000 s.
The director did this to make it different to the book and to other Hamlet movies. It made it more
modern and interesting the director might have done this to make the audience understand the movie a
little better. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Privilege For False Privilege
1. Does the absolute privilege for statements made in judicial proceedings protect defamatory
statements made in letters to a judge submitted into evidence at a criminal trial?
2. Does the qualified privilege to publish to someone who shares a common interest or in defense of
the interest of others apply when a party in a criminal matter solicited individuals to submit letters to a
judge attesting to the party s character?
II. Brief Answers
1. Likely yes. Because the statements were related to judicial proceedings, and there was an
opportunity to challenge the veracity of the statements, any defamatory statements contained therein
are likely protected by the absolute privilege for statements made in judicial proceedings.

Peck, 43 Md. App. 168, 173 (1979).
This doctrine has a fascinating history beginning on June 13, 1888, when the Court of Appeals
decided three cases involving this privilege on the same day. One case involved statements made by
an attorney in the course of judicial proceedings, Maulsby v. Reifsnider, 69 Md. 143 (1888), another
involved statements by a witness providing testimony, Hunckel v. Voneiff, 69 Md. 179 (1888), and the
final involved statements made by party litigants in a case, Bartlett v. Christhilf, 69 Md. 219 (1888).
The theme that emerged from these three cases is that when a witness is providing testimony to the
court, that witness should be answerable only to the court, and not to third parties, for untrue
statements by means of the power find someone guilty of perjury. Under these three cases, then, it
would appear that the privilege would only apply to statements made under the penalty of perjury. As
such under this 1888 rule the doctrine would not likely apply because the letters submitted to the court
would not likely be punishable by perjury.
In Kennedy v. Cannon, 229 Md. 92, 96 (1962), however, the Court of Appeals extended the 1888 rule
to apply to a witness in any pleadings, affidavits, depositions, and

Risk Factors Affecting Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
M.C was admitted to Providence hospital in Waco on September 11, 2015 to undergo coronary artery
bypass graft surgery. He has a previous medical history of coronary artery disease (CAD),
hypertension, MI, and hyperlipidemia. All of these diseases put M.C at an increased risk for acute
CAD leading to occluded vessels that supply the heart with adequate blood flow and oxygenation.
Nonmodifiable risk factors associated with coronary artery disease include age, gender, family history,
and ethnic background. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, obesity, elevated serum lipid levels,
limited physical activity, stress, and hypertension (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). M.C s family history

The fibrous plaque is often elevated and protrudes into the vessel lumen, partially or completely
obstructing blood flow through the artery (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). When the coronary arteries
are unable to meet the cardiac muscle s need for oxygen an imbalance occurs resulting in stable angina
or unstable angina. With stable angina the plaque is fixed and is associated with chest discomfort in
response to activities. Whenever the plaque that has been accumulating in the arteries ruptures the
body responds by platelet aggregation, thrombus formation, and vasoconstriction as an inflammatory
response known as acute coronary syndrome or unstable angina. This in turn narrows the blood
vessels and can cause an increase in obstruction of the artery. Once the artery has plaque accumulation
of 40%, blood flow starts being blocked. The amount of blood flow blocked through occlusion of the
artery determines the disease process.
M.C also had increased glucose levels while I was providing care. Hyperglycemia can cause increased
inflammation of the blood vessel walls damaging the endothelial lining of the vessel. Hyperglycemia
is another major cause for concern because it creates additional plaque buildup causing occlusion and
further complications.
With recurrent plaque build up on the arteriolar walls and vasoconstriction M.C developed and was
diagnosed with hypertension. Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure at or above 140 mm

vulture can eat the snakes as well.

Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863 in Wayne county, Michigan. He was the son of Irish immigrants,
William and Mary Ford, who had settled on a farm in Dearborn. In addition to helping his father with

Ford s successes were not without problems. Soon after the incorporation of the Ford Motor Company,
Ford was threatened by the Association of Licensed Automobile Manufacturers. After years of legal

Ford was able to market the Model T to the general public because of his advanced production
technology. The Ford Motor Company s plant in Highland Park, Michigan, Ford introduced the first

made available at a lower cost. Ford also instituted the $5.00/day minimum wage, which he claimed

However, not everyone was impressed with Ford s business practices, and in 1917, he was sued by his
stockholders for diverting profits into company expansion. Although the court ruled in favor of the
stockholders, by 1920, Ford was able to buy them out. He built a huge plant in River Rouge, and the

Their movement was influenced by the poverty of the newcomers; they did not want to live amongst

These snakes live throughout Northwestern South America. Eyelash vipers are one of the most
interesting snakes in the world. Eyelash vipers can be found anywhere from Mexico to Panama. More
specifically they have been found in Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and Guatemala. As well as Nicaragua,
Costa Rica, Panamá, Venezuela, Colombia, And Ecuador. They usually live in humid forests on the
slope of a mountain. Eyelash vipers can live up 8,500 feet above sea level. That s 1.6 miles up or
13,517 pencils. In the wild, Eyelash vipers usually eat frogs and lizards. Sometimes, if food is scarce,
they will eat small rodents. In captivity, they usually

The Rationality of Probabilities for Actions in Decision Theory
ABSTRACT: Spohn s decision model, an advancement of Fishburn s theory, is valuable for making
explicit the principle used also by other thinkers that any adequate quantitative decision model must
not explicitly or implicitly contain any subjective probabilities for acts. This principle is not used in
the decision theories of Jeffrey or of Luce and Krantz. According to Spohn, this principle is important
because it has effects on the term of action, on Newcomb s problem, and on the theory of causality
and the freedom of the will. On the one hand, I will argue against Spohn with Jeffrey that the principle
has to be given up. On the other, I will try to argue against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1969 Robert Nozick introduced Newcomb s problem to the philosophic community as a conflict
between the principle of expected utility maximization and the principle of dominance. Nozick s
introduction led to a Newcombmania (Levi 1982), because philosophers have decisively different
opinions about the correct solution to this problem. The Newcombmania showed itself in the
development of causal and evidential decision theories and other proposals. Because the evidential
theories (for example Jeffrey 1965, 1983) do not use the principle, they cannot give a solution to
Newcomb s problem in case you accept the principle. The causal theories which use subjunctive
conditionals (for example Lewis 1981) are problematical, because they still have to provide a logic of
subjunctive conditionals, a probability theory for subjunctive conditionals and a corresponding
decision theory. Because Skyrms (1980) causal theory and Kyburg s (1980) proposal of epistemic vs.
stochastic independence also don t use the principle, only Spohn s solution (1978) to Newcomb s
problem is left. This solution which recommends taking both boxes is valuable for its simplicity in
contrast to the theories with subjunctive conditionals. According to Spohn it is a mistake to use
probabilities conditionalized on actions for the results of the prediction, if the prediction is earlier than
the choice. According to Spohn it is right that the

High School Should Be The Four Best Years Of My Life
When I was thirteen, I remember people telling me to prepare for high school to be the four best years
of my life. Looking back, it saddens me that I can barely identify a single day that is anything worth
remembering. Since I was six years old, I had struggled with accepting my body. Many of my earliest
fears are ones regarding weight, fat, how people gain weight, and how being overweight is bad . It s
difficult to pinpoint exactly when my issues with food began to surface; however, I think it s roots can
trace back to when I was only twelve. I can vividly recall asking my mom what foods contained sugar
as I was secretly trying to avoid the sweet calorie laden substance. I never would have guessed at the
path that this process of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These rules ensured I would forever remain in control, thus preventing the possibility of this average
persona from encroaching on my life. I wouldn t eat any more than one thousand calories, I wouldn t
snack, nor would I ever eat out. My nighttime reading became internet searches on low calorie meals
and desserts, workout routines that shredded calories and weight loss tips and tricks . I quickly became
obsessed with food; most of which I would never allow myself to eat. The eating disorder I had
developed to help control my life soon became my whole life. My health began to deteriorate along
with my energy. My teammates whom were all previously much slower runners than myself started to
pass me on the track; yet, despite my fear of becoming weak, my eating disorder gave me confidence.
In a sense, my disease became my new best friend, offering comfort that I could get from nowhere
else. In my warped way of seeing the world, I was the only one in control. When my friends would eat
junk food or skip a day at the gym, I laughed to myself at their innocence . I would think, Clearly, I
know something about control that you guys do not. This is what will make me better, stronger and
more successful. This is what will prevent average. Although, as I continued to starve myself and lose
weight, surpassing my goal of five pounds, it wasn t enough. Losing weight

  • 2. Advancing the Individual s Knowledge of the Holocaust Essay By comparing, analyzing and questioning the validity of Maus I and II, Night, Night and Fog, nonfictional historical accounts and a poem, called Already Embraced by the Arm of Heavenly Solace, found in Europe in the Contemporary World, Schindler s List and the Return to Auschwitz we may determine to what degree these sources serve to advance humanity s understanding of the holocaust. The holocaust can be explained as the historical event in which the Nazi s, who came to power in Germany in January 1933, and its collaborators murdered and persecuted approximately six million Jews. This came about because of the German belief that they were racially superior and the Jews were an alien threat to the German state. For humanity to advance in ... The conclusions of the various sources, brought on by the analysis of the issues above and by comparing these sources to each other, determined that overall these sources have a high degree in serving to further man s understanding of the holocaust. By categorizing the two movies, Night and Fog and Schindler s List, together we are able to better analyze and contrast the two similar yet different sources. First off, both these sources can be deemed accountable because they use more than one source. The documentary, Night and Fog, uses two different survivors of the holocaust as well as various other sources. Schindler s List also relied on more than one person s account of the situation to write the movie s script. This is unlike the sources such as Return to Auschwitz, written by the first hand account of Kitty Hart , and Night, written by Elie Wiesel who also had first hand experiences , that depend on one person s account or report of the situation to tell the story. However, the written work isn t used for entertainment purposes, like Schindler s List is, and therefore is less likely to be changed to draw attention or gain financially. Schindler s List is a famous movie used to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So Tthis essay will talk about Viking warfare and how thistheir practices prove proves that they were blood thirsty raiders. The Vikings battle tactics and warriors were ruthless, like their berserk warriors. Berserk warriors were just that are where the term going berserk comes from, and berserk means violently or destructively frenzied in their approach to fighting and warfare. Disadvantages Of Lingua Franca A Lingua Franca; the Catalyst of International Debates The term lingua franca is usually associated with languages; more precisely, any language that is commonly used by people whose native language differentiates. • 5. Petrarch Sonnet Unrequited Love Petrified Petrarch Two hundred years had passed between the sonnets of Petrarch and the reign of Queen Elizabeth. As a form and structure for poetic life, the sonnet had grown hard. Fourteen lines of rhymed iambic pentameter remained pregnant with possibilities and vitality, but must the sense turn after the octave and resolve in the sestet? Love remained in some ways inexpressible without this basic verse form, but something wasn t right. One reads in Wyatt s sonnets about some justice in love; there is more than unrequited love and enduring adoration and misery. His male lover expresses a desire to break out of his amorous prison. This is an anti Petrarchan theme. This is the opposite of the hopelessly adoring pose of the enslaved Petrarchan lover. The opening sonnet in Astrophel and Stella begins Loving in truth, and fain in verse my love to show,/ That she, dear she, might take some pleasure of my pain (Longman 987). Sidney begins in imitation of Petrarch in three ways. The poet s beloved is unkind; so he is plunged into despair. Sidney has also adopted Petrarch s habit of self scrutiny. Thirdly the thought changes at the end of the eighth line. The octave tells of the poet s futile efforts to write a poem; the sestet discloses why he had been unsuccessful. The poet looks to the Petrarchan tradition for inspiration to cure his writer s block. Oft turning other s leaves, to see if thence would flow/ Some fresh and fruitful showers upon my sunburned brain (7 8). But this method is unproductive because it lacks the support of imagination. But words came halting forth, wanting Invention s stay (9). Sidney is employing the new English sonnet form developed by Surrey. This new structural scheme divides the poem into three quatrains and a concluding couplet. The rhyme, abab cdcd efef gg, is easier and more obvious to the ear. This structure is more ... • 9. Summary Of Jacob Bronowski s The Reach Of Imagination Jacob Bronowski s 1966 speech, The Reach of Imagination, provides an early theory that humans are the only beings capable of imagination. This theory relies on the cognitive function of visual images; while it is suggestive, Bronowski does not give an in depth representation of the memory that explains how and why it works. However, Daniel Schacter provides an updated theory, closely related to Bronowski, of how the brain can form and retrieve memories. Schacter adds on to Bronowski s theory and shows exactly how people remember and interpret things differently. Though Bronowski s claim is aged, it is still supported by Daniel Schacter s theory behind the human brain and how memories are retrieved in fragments. In order to understand the objectives of Bronowski, it is crucial to be aware of the rhetorical context. The Reach of Imagination is a speech which was delivered as the Blashfield Address to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1966. The speech was given to an audience of top class artists and poets to argue that all humans are capable of imagination, which is where memory is derived from. This is done by referring to an experiment performed by Walter Hunter, who tested the memory of dogs by placing them in cages with tunnels as escape routes. A light would flash above the exit tunnel, which the dogs would follow immediately. However, after making the dogs wait, it became evident that they were incapable of remembering the correct route. • 12. How Did The Cold War Affect The Cold War The Cold War was one of the most crucial events in shaping Canada during the twentieth century. Lasting from the latter half of the 1940s to the 1990s, the effects of the Cold War on Canadian society and politics were far ranging and long lasting. Throughout these years, many social changes were implemented, dramatically shaping modern Canada. The most important social changes, however, took place during the 1960s. This was a decade of turbulent and significant social change. During these years, homosexual acts were legalized, Quebec experienced a period of immense revolution, and second wave feminism was established. In the modern era, Canada is often praised for its inclusivity and acceptance. However, the country has not always been this way. In the late 1950s to early 1960s, Canada faced a period of extreme homophobia: the Gay Purge. This was one of the longest and the most harmful campaigns of discrimination conducted by the federal government against the LGBT community . The motive of this campaign was to identify and purge LGBT Federal Public Servants on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression in the Federal Public Service and military. The idea of this purge did not originate in Canada, rather it was adopted from the United States. As outlined at the initial stage of this dissertation, CSR as a concept appeared for the first time in the 1950s (Bowen, 1953). The clock for the 640x480 (frame size 800x525) display image runs at a frequency of 25.2 MHz and the clock for the camera runs at a frequency of 48.825 MHz to synchronize the display. The I2C setup, involves using I2C protocols to program registers within the camera. It is a two wire protocol, where one wire acts as the clock to pass from the FPGA to the device, and the other wire is the data wire which is bidirectional. The data wire is a top level entity and requires the setup module to have 3 data connections. These are input data from the camera to the controller, output data from the FPGA controller to the camera and output enable (tristate control), which determines whether the data is input or output. Wildfires are required to burn in order to keep the ecosystem in check. In Banff National Park, these fires burn in old growth areas. After the fire Grizzly Bears rummage through the now loose and nutrient rich soil for certain roots that are apart of their diets. Hamlet Movie Vs Play The play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is about a king that was murdered by his brother and the main character Hamlet, who is the prince and also the king s son was told by the ghost of his father to avenge his murder. In the play Hamlet, there are many differences compared to the movie Hamlet 2000 directed by Michael Almereyda. The reason to these differences is to show a modern setting in the movie Hamlet 2000 , to show the audience a better understanding of the characters, and the difference in the way the movie ends compared to the original play by Shakespeare. The first difference is the setting compared to the play and the movie. In the original play the setting takes place in Elsinore, Denmark in the royal palace in the late Middle Ages around the 14th and 15th century. The play starts off with the guards in the castle and Horatio who is one of the guards is the first to see the ghost. But as shown in the movie the setting starts off in New York City in the 2000 s. This doctrine has a fascinating history beginning on June 13, 1888, when the Court of Appeals decided three cases involving this privilege on the same day. One case involved statements made by an attorney in the course of judicial proceedings, Maulsby v. Reifsnider, 69 Md. 143 (1888), another involved statements by a witness providing testimony, Hunckel v. Voneiff, 69 Md. 179 (1888), and the final involved statements made by party litigants in a case, Bartlett v. Christhilf, 69 Md. 219 (1888). The theme that emerged from these three cases is that when a witness is providing testimony to the court, that witness should be answerable only to the court, and not to third parties, for untrue statements by means of the power find someone guilty of perjury. Under these three cases, then, it would appear that the privilege would only apply to statements made under the penalty of perjury. As such under this 1888 rule the doctrine would not likely apply because the letters submitted to the court would not likely be punishable by perjury. In Kennedy v. Cannon, 229 Md. 92, 96 (1962), however, the Court of Appeals extended the 1888 rule to apply to a witness in any pleadings, affidavits, depositions, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fibrous plaque is often elevated and protrudes into the vessel lumen, partially or completely obstructing blood flow through the artery (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). When the coronary arteries are unable to meet the cardiac muscle s need for oxygen an imbalance occurs resulting in stable angina or unstable angina. With stable angina the plaque is fixed and is associated with chest discomfort in response to activities. Whenever the plaque that has been accumulating in the arteries ruptures the body responds by platelet aggregation, thrombus formation, and vasoconstriction as an inflammatory response known as acute coronary syndrome or unstable angina. This in turn narrows the blood vessels and can cause an increase in obstruction of the artery. Once the artery has plaque accumulation of 40%, blood flow starts being blocked. The amount of blood flow blocked through occlusion of the artery determines the disease process. M.C also had increased glucose levels while I was providing care. The Rationality of Probabilities for Actions in Decision Theory ABSTRACT: Spohn s decision model, an advancement of Fishburn s theory, is valuable for making explicit the principle used also by other thinkers that any adequate quantitative decision model must not explicitly or implicitly contain any subjective probabilities for acts. This principle is not used in the decision theories of Jeffrey or of Luce and Krantz. According to Spohn, this principle is important because it has effects on the term of action, on Newcomb s problem, and on the theory of causality and the freedom of the will. In 1969 Robert Nozick introduced Newcomb s problem to the philosophic community as a conflict between the principle of expected utility maximization and the principle of dominance. Nozick s introduction led to a Newcombmania (Levi 1982), because philosophers have decisively different opinions about the correct solution to this problem. The Newcombmania showed itself in the development of causal and evidential decision theories and other proposals. Because the evidential theories (for example Jeffrey 1965, 1983) do not use the principle, they cannot give a solution to Newcomb s problem in case you accept the principle. The causal theories which use subjunctive conditionals (for example Lewis 1981) are problematical, because they still have to provide a logic of subjunctive conditionals, a probability theory for subjunctive conditionals and a corresponding decision theory. Because Skyrms (1980) causal theory and Kyburg s (1980) proposal of epistemic vs. stochastic independence also don t use the principle, only Spohn s solution (1978) to Newcomb s problem is left. This solution which recommends taking both boxes is valuable for its simplicity in contrast to the theories with subjunctive conditionals.
