Reaction Paper On Gels
1. Introduction
1.1. Gels
1.1.1. Definition
The word gel is derived from gelatin and can be traced back to the Latin gelu for frost and gelare,
meaning freeze or congeal . (1)
According to the U. S. Pharmacopeia (USP), gels are defined as semisolid systems consisting of either
suspensions made up of small inorganic particles or large organic molecules interpenetrated by a
liquid . (2)
Gels are also defined as two component semi rigid systems in which the liquid continuous phase is
immobilized by a cross linked three dimensional network consisting of particles or solvated
macromolecules in the disperse phase. (2,3) This disperse phase can be constituted by inorganic
particles or organic macromolecules, primarily polymers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process is referred to as swelling. This phenomenon occurs as the solvent penetrates the matrix.
Gel gel interactions are replaced by gel solvent interactions. The degree of swelling depends on the
number of linkages between individual molecules of gelling agent and on the strength of these
linkages7, 8. B) Syneresis Many gels often contract spontaneously on standing and exude some fluid
medium. This effect is known as syneresis. The degree to which syneresis occurs, increases as the
concentration of gelling agent decreases. The occurrence of syneresis indicates that the original gel
was thermodynamically unstable. The mechanism of contraction has been related to the relaxation of
elastic stress developed during the setting of the gels. As these stresses are relieved, the interstitial
space available for the solvent is reduced, forcing the liquid out. C) Ageing Colloidal systems usually
exhibit slow spontaneous aggregation. This process is referred to as ageing. In gels, ageing results in
gradual formation of a denser network of the gelling agent. D) Structure The rigidity of a gel arises
from the presence of a network formed by the interlinking of particles of the gelling agents. The nature
of the particle and the stress, straightening them out and lessening the resistance to

Strict Dress Code
What Can I Wear
What can I wear to work? Some employers have a strict dress code, while others are very laid back.
According to the type of business, the organization does could dictate the type of attire and grooming
that is expected from the organization. Does the employer have a right to tell you what you can and
cannot wear to work or even how to be groomed? In my opinion and through my experiences in life I
would say yes they do, they have a business to run, and customers require certain expectations and
those expectations are handed down to the employees. Employee rights must be taking into
consideration in the process, along with other reasons for the policies implemented such as setting
guidelines for dress and grooming that could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, we have issues occasionally and we handle those swiftly and consistently with all
employees. If we did not have these guidelines in place, we would have employees showing up in flip
flops to move pallets and heavy boxes with a high risk of foot injuries. Others would be caught in the
buffing wheel due to a loose tank top that had been cut down the side. How do I know this? The
reason I know this is because even with the policy we have in place these few incidents have
happened and the employees in both of these situations that I mentioned actually had the accident
described.
In addition, different businesses would require different standards and could have a much stricter dress
code policy. Employees that have direct interaction with the public should be well groomed and
dressed appropriately. The more formal or professional the culture the need is greater for a policy
governing hygiene and grooming along with dress code. In addition, organizations that require work
with heavy machinery and dangerous machinery requires standards to satisfy safety hazards (Sussman,
2017). Keep in mind that employees have rights that need to be taken into consideration when policies

Essay On Old Man s Cave
Old Man s Cave
This intrinsic formation of expansive foliage, stone and soil showcase what can be offered in the form
of natural beauty bolstered in part by a creation of a seamlessly interwoven trail, taking many forms it
will follow throughout the musty voids of cool stone, past the crashing flow of waterfalls, and into the
expanse of lumbering cedar giants. Natural formations of rock with stunning depth and size introduce
a smooth, chiseled out staircase, of solid gray stone, which leads downward into grooved out tunnel of
stone running through the earth. The solid walls are rough and uneven, with an oozing stability.
Running a finger across may yield a feeling of minor abrasion, with a small, distinct scraping heard.

Some small trees are toward the top, growing out from the cracks in the side of the wall, they defy the
comforts that the ground may bring. As the the path starts to decline, it begins shifting toward the
direction of the valley. Running water can be heard, flowing in a manner of constant control and
power, slowing only at certain times of the seasons. To the left, a waterfall can be partially seen
roaring with a vigorous energy, cascading down the rock, plummeting into a shallow pool of water.
The pool attempts to engulf three large boulders sitting on the outskirts, only able to claim their
undersides. Further, a bridge comes into view, standing proud, with a solid construction of rock and
mortar. On each side it offers a wall, both of which rise to protect from the drop below, with the left
side forming a connection to the stone wall that preceded them. The path continues on, its convex
shape of smooth stone created, suspended in the air. It finds little to care about the stream below,
which meekly runs off to connect to the main pool. As the waterfall finds itself in full view, it is
proudly able to show off the full might it possesses. Continuing, the path soon finds itself at the
beginning of a new set of stairs. The stairs are a bit more deteriorated and uneven, showing lots of
cracks and moss. They hug around a corner of exposed rock with a smaller, aging stone wall built to
its right side. The stone wall, built mostly by a past construction, was

Abraham Promises
The Bible teaches that God s longing to redeem the world has always been His desire, but sinful man
has refused God s grace. The appeal to man to turn from his selfish ways dates back to the Old
Testament and is clearly displayed in the actions God puts into place with Abraham and the formation
of the nation of Israel. These activities are evident in Abraham and the nation of Israel through
promises made, examples to show His glory, and Israel s comparison to the Church today.
Promises Made
In Genesis, God promised blessings to Abraham that would carry to his descendants (Gen. 12:2 3
[NASB]).1 Through these blessings, one man and his family would benefit the whole world and begin
a process of ingathering from the darkness and disintegration ... Show more content on

As part of those activities, the Scripture clearly indicates His desire to declare Himself to all nations,
tongues, and tribes. Walter Kaiser explains that the Old Testament unfolds a plan (Gen. 12:3), a
purpose (Ps. 67:1 7) and the need for participation (Exod. 19:4 6) by the nation of Israel.11 There are
three significant areas that serve as evidence of God s intentions. They are the use of the Israelites to
reach the world as a proclamation, Abraham s specific calling to become a priestly nation, and the
nation as an example.
God s plan and work are directed to the entire of humanity with His desire to save all of mankind.12
However, man s struggle against God is apparent in events such as the attempt to reach heaven at
Babel (Gen. 11:1 9) and the universal condemnation of wickedness, which caused the great flood
(Gen. 6:5).13 Israel was designed to be a solid foundation for other nations to turn to. Verkuyl states
that even the nations who oppose God will one day celebrate in restored fellowship.14 Israel will
become the permanent presence of God s people acting and relating with the world. God s word even
makes provision to those who choose to join the nation and accepts them as one born into the
community (Exod. 12:48 49).15 While they were never to become part of the world, Isreal was to live
in the world and be set aside for the purposes of

Why soldiers enlisted in WW1 Essay
To what extent did Australian s enlist in 1914 to defend the Mother Country ? There are many reasons
to why Australian s went to war in the 1914; everyone had different reasons for applying for this life
threatening job. Some went for the thrill, to get a job, to get away from the drought and some people
even had war fever. On the other hand, some people went because they felt like it was the right thing
to do and because everyone else was doing it. A lot of time people think only about the soldiers that
went to war and forget about the women who also enlisted as nurses and did other important jobs.

Performance Enhancing Drugs In Sports
Political In New Zealand, this year the laws surrounding drugs in sport have been updated so that they
are now at the same standard of those of the World Anti Doping Agency s 2015 world anti doping
code. This meant increasing the penalty of those caught using performance enhancing drugs from a 2
year ban to 4 years for first time offenders. This means that an athlete that is caught using drugs at the
Olympics, they will miss the next one. The laws have also been changed so that all supporting
staff/team members of the athlete are subject to these laws as well and therefore they can receive
banes as well. They also extended the consequences to anyone who tries to cover up any doping that is
occurring. These law changes were set in place to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because in the sporting environment it is hard to get away from people using these drugs and
the athlete can start thinking that in order for them to beat these people they too would need to dope.
This can have a greater impact in team sports opposed to individual sports. This is because in an
individual sport, the athlete only has their self to let down if they don t perform well, but in a team
sport the athlete lets down the whole team it they aren t preforming at a high enough standard. Also
because if they are in a team where everyone is taking perform enhancing drugs they are unable to get
away from them and are more likely to dope as well. However drugs in team sports come with greater
risks because if one member gets caught using, whether the entire team is or not, the whole team will
get disqualified, not just that single athlete. An example of an athlete was part of a team and used
performance enhancing drugs because the rest of the team was and therefore was trapped in that
environment was Stephen Swart. Stephen Swart was part of Lance Armstrong s Motorola cycling team
in 1995 1996 during the Tour De France but in an interview he did in 2004 with Sports Illustrate he
confirms the allegations of Lance Armstrong s doping saying He was the instigator. It was his words

the basis that they were the quintessential first response of the Iraqi army and by effectively destroying

on these specific airfields, a large US led squadron began to bomb the Iraqi city of Baghdad , which

Rhetorical Analysis Of Defending Free Speech On College...
Free speech on college campuses has been a widely debated topic in recent years. Because of this, the
opinions held on this subject vary. In the editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses , the
Editorial Board of the Chicago Tribune defends the idea of education and free speech. The Editorial
Board states that students today are not receiving as useful of an education because of the barriers put
on free speech. In addition, they argue that in not allowing students to feel uncomfortable, they are not
receiving a true education. [A little more summary here would be helpful how does the author support
these claims?] The editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses, introduces a valid logical
argument on education through describing instances in which students experience uncomfortable
learning situations, and the ways in which they were handled. [Hannah, your reasons here are about
content, not about rhetoric what rhetorical reasons is the argument strong?]
The true substance of this editorial comes from the authors use of logical appeals and its relatability to
students. [These are two different ideas which is going to make your paragraph rather jumbled. How
could you reorganize to make sure each paragraph is focused on a single unified idea?] The author
argues the importance in not going so far in protecting undergraduates (n.p.) from controversial or
touchy subjects. A substantial part of education consists of understanding your opinion, as well as, the

College Cost In College
The author talks about college cost, and the effect it has on students and on how times it takes longer
to graduate. This is an important topic because college cost has been a problem for many individuals
for decades and it still is. College cost is something that shapes people s lives and it worries them
because college cost is what determines if they re going to continue going to college. It s something
that people should take lightly because college is pretty expensive. According to the advocacy group
complete college America, it cost 63,718 for one extra year to attend college. For students who take
longer to finish school because of certain requisites, it becomes a toll because of the cost. According to
Norton Field Guide to writing by Richard Bullock and Maureen Daly Goggin found a report on Los
Angeles bases campaigns for college opportunity, saying students who attend school 6 years instead of
4 years will lose 110,900 dollars in their lifetime. Many people in the work field and colleges expect
students to attend school for four years. According to the NFGW, nearly nine out of 10 freshmen think
they will earn their bachelor degree within the traditional four years. Yet In the NFGW quotes the U.S
Department of Education and they report that about 45 percent won t have finished.
I have encountered many people who have mentioned that college is very expensive and that it has
been a big factor on whether they would continue their education. People can take a break

How Did Pavlova Change The World Of Dance
To dance is to find your true spirit in the art of losing yourself. Dance is not only an art. It s a sport, a

William Carlos Williams s Poem Marriage
Poems are the best to express thoughts to readers, many writers choose to write poems to speak their
feelings which plain ordinary texts will not do. Three poems have special ideas about marriage, they
are: Marriage by William Carlos Williams, Marriea Love by Kuan Tao Sheng, and an untitled one by
Apache Song. All three of them have a central idea of marriage; two people are one individual after
marriage, one cannot separate from the other one. These poems are short but they carry deep morals
about marriage. They have a common characteristics where they all visualize the bonding between the
couple into things we feel comfortable about. There are three main aspects of poems content,
structure, and tone I would discuss about how the authors uses similar writing styles to bring out the
common idea behind. All contents of the three poems are very visual. In Marriage, Williams describes
men and women as streams and fields and in Marriea Love, Kuan describes them as clays. Similarly,
Song describes the relationship between married couples as solutions to problem, like, shelter for rain
and warmth for coldness. Visualizing helps reader to understand the author s point of view on
marriage. We can see that all three of them implies that, after a couple is married they become one
individual and should not and cannot be separated. Marriage says that men and women as streams and
fields. We often see them appear very closely and one another cannot be absent. He

Essay on The Massachusetts and Chesapeake Colonies
America, one of the youngest countries in the world, partly owes its success to the events that took
place in the northeastern coast in the 1600s. It was great risk for English to colonize in America, a
foreign and faraway land, from which they did not know what to expect. At that time, America was
dominated by Dutch and French traders and a native population not so friendly with most of the
settlers. The colonies in Massachusetts and Chesapeake, located at the main crossroads of English,
Dutch, and French settlers and natives, play a significant role in the development of the future world
power. Although today the east coast enjoys a harmonious and successful lifestyle, in the early days of

successful. The climate of the Chesapeake was good for farming because of the long growing season
and its flat land. In 1619, African slaves were introduced to Chesapeake society. This caused a
significant increase in the demand for workers. Also in 1619, the House of Burgess was established to
elect representatives for office. The settlers who established on the northern east coast were strictly
searching for a land with religious freedom. The Puritans, followers of John Calvin, settled in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony. In England, they wished to purify the Anglican Church but were
persecuted by King James I. The Puritans believed in well ordered communities and families. They
stressed education and the specific roles for males and females. The Pilgrims, or Separatists, founded

advantage of a loophole in their charter. This was the first self government treaty in North America.

Bible Intake And Prayer In My Life Analysis

Kristallnacht Analysis
After the defeat in WWI and the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany faced an economic
crash and was left under the rule of an unstable democracy. In times of desperate need, the German
people favored the Nazi party and elected their own fascist leader, Adolf Hitler. While the Germans
simply hoped for bread, work, and the restoration of German pride, they were given much more than
they bargained for. Hitler created his own cult of personality and blinded the citizenry to his
promotion of racist ideas and stereotypes, which eventually escalated into millions of deaths across
Europe, and a war that changed the world.
Although the violence on Kristallnacht is viewed as the the spark that led to the flames of the
Holocaust, one must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Germany s economy after World War I was left in shambles, to the point where people were
living off of bread and water. The Führer took advantage of the people s fear and desperation and used
it to forward his agenda, presenting himself as their light in the darkness. He created a cult of
personality, not unlike those of dictators who ruled at the same time, such as Joseph Stalin Russia and
Benito Mussolini of Italy, or even Kim Jong Un of today. An image from 1938 depicts the different
Badges of Shame assigned to those in concentration camps, including Jews, homosexuals, immigrants,
political enemies, and the mentally ill (Doc 7). Hitler took advantage of symbolism, and in this case
used it to categorize and divide his targets, creating a social stigma around those who wore the stars
and triangles. He further used symbolism in establishing unity among the German population and
solidifying his cult following, by making forcing them to pledge their allegiance to him. An image
from 1935 of a Nazi Rally in Nuremberg depicts a huge crowd of young Germans doing the Nazi
salute (Doc 6). With a hand gesture stolen from the Romans, he made it his own by adding the words
Heil Hitler! . In addition to using symbolism, Hitler used the media and appointed a Minister of
Propaganda to build up a positive image. This hero worship allowed Hitler

Lacrosse Rules By Chris Hayhurst
The book Lacrosse Rules, Tips, Strategy, and Safety by Chris Hayhurst is a nonfiction book all about
the sport, lacrosse. This book talks about both girls lacrosse and boys lacrosse. It talks about both the
similarities and the differences between boys and girls lacrosse. But I believe they could have added in
additional chapter focusing on girls lacrosse. When I say girls lacrosse I am talking about the rules. In
boys lacrosse no matter what age you are you are allowed to check another player s stick. If you don t
know what checking is it s when one player hits the other player who has the balls stick to try and
knock it out and gain possession of the ball. But in girls lacrosse we are not always allowed to do that.

DSCA Command Relationships during Katrina
SFC Marson, Kellen
Master Leader Course
Class 18 001
Introduction
On August 29th, 2005, Hurrican Katrina, a Category 4 hurricane, made landfall. Katrina left severe
destruction along the Golf Coast and evenutally breached the New Orleans levee system putting the
city under water. The death toll was estimated at 1,245 people and an estimated $105 billion dollars in
damage occured (Knabb 2011). During Katrina, command relationships failed because of political
differences between President Bush and Louisiana Governor, Kathleen Blanco as to who should
command the National Guard, delays at the National Guard Bureau (NGB) in deploying troops and
equipment, and failing to create a unity of effort between National Guard and Active Duty forces.
National Guard
The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina left tens of thousands of people in New Orleans without adequate
water, food, shelter, and physical security. Law enforcement was in disarray as 200 New Orleans
Police officers left their post. The Louisiana National Guard was short on personnel and much of their
equipment was unserviceable due to flooding. Thousands of people needed help and critical
distribution of resources from Defense Support of Civilian Authorities (DSCA) failed.
As New Orleans spiraled out of control, looting and crime were becoming a serious problem. The
Louisiana National Guard focused on rescue missions, rather than keeping Law Order. The public
began to blame President Bush and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco for their poor response to the
recovery efforts.
In a meeting on Airforce One, President Bush tried to convince Governor Blanco to federalize the
National Guard in order to have all forces under one central command. Governor Blanco refused this
offer, believing that Bush s attempt to federalize the Louisiana National Guard was just attempt to
blame her for post Katrina problems (Farazmand, 2014).
While President Bush and Governor Blanco argued over politics, valuable time was being wasted and
innocent people in New Orleans continued to suffer and parish at the hands of it s own federal and
state governments. Across the country, National Guard Soldiers from various

Discontent Expressed through Blues, Jazz, Reggae, and Hip hop
In cultures all over the world, music can be seen encompassing many aspects of life for many
individuals. It is a form of mass communication that speaks directly to society as a cultural form , and
often reflects a collection and pattern of personal experiences (King 19). Music is so influential
because it communicates on three different levels: the physical, emotional, and cognitive. Not only
does it operate in a nondiscursive way, by affecting the physiological mode of the body, causing one to
move and dance, but it also encourages one to think. This paper will explore music as a form of
protest; showing how a political message, in general form, is presented through music. ... Show more

It was shaped by social and political oppression and it reflects a defiant attitude toward life. The blues
represents survival during hard times and it tells the basic facts of life. As can be seen in the music,
there is an emphasis on the immediacy of life, the nature of man, and human survival... formed from a
history of mental and physical hardships (Spencer 39).
It is a direct expression of the post slavery world view, linked to freeing the individual spirit.
The old blues redefined America s traditional values, and led to the vision of a new establishment
(Spencer 56). It directly spoke out against white America and the Puritan ethos that was forced upon
the slaves for centuries. The lyrics helped release America from the moral prison of this Puritanism,
and questioned the morality of Christianity and white society. In the music, there is an emphasis on
unity, with the joining of man and woman together, and their ultimate triumph over the machine
(Spencer 57).
Despite the obvious separation between the blues and the church, the blues is often seen as a secular
religion , as well as a form of art and modern mythology (Spencer 55). In comparing the blues singer
to a preacher, Charles Keil states, Blues singers and preachers both provide models and

Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Essay
I. Introduction: A subarachnoid hemorrhage is a leakage of blood into the subarachnoid space. This
area is located between the pia matter and arachnoid matter. Cerebral spinal fluid is usually found in
this in this space. The Cerebral spinal fluid acts as a shock absorber for any trauma or blow to the
head. Sometimes the force is to big and blood is released into this area. This damages the lining of the
brain which increases pressure to the brain and killing brain cells.
II. Etiology The most common causes of a sub arachnoid hemorrhage is a blow to the head or trauma.

Gracile Features
Introduction
The more gracile features that denote a female typically include the smaller size or often nonexistence
of certain features found on the skeleton including but not limited to the nuchal crest, mastoid process,
and brow ridges. Also, the average height of a female is shorter than that of the average male. Due to
this difference in skeletal structure, most of the bones in the female skeleton should in some form be
sexually dimorphic. The trend of smaller features is of course excluding the pelvic girdle, on which
most female features are larger and rounder due to the skeletal requirements of childbirth. Given the
above statement, it is reasonable to predict that there would be a distinguishable difference between
the metacarpal of a male and a female. Studies have proved that metacarpals are sexually dimorphic,
and can be used to identify the sex of a skeleton in both Egyptian and Tai populations. Due to these
past studies, it is logical to assume that the same sexually dimorphism can be found in the European
population. If successful this study could develop an algorism to help determine the sex from just a
single bone. This advancement in our knowledge of sex identification could propel cases, in which the
sex of the induvial was undeterminable from the bones recovered.

A History of Beauty in Gender and Sexuality Writings
Discuss what you think the sources tell us about beauty s place in the history of gender and sexuality.
Consider as well the historical evidence you have about efforts to enhance beauty through adornment
or other alterations of appearance.
The concept of beauty is one of the more intriguing and important concepts in the study of gender and
sexuality. Beauty has held a prominent role in shaping people s personal lives and by extension, the
lives of society and humanity at large in both positive and negative fashions. Charles Darwin s

Charles Darwin s Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex (1871), Sigmund Freud s Three
Contributions to the Theory of Sex (1905), and Robert Musil s The Confusions of a Young Törless
(1906) served to illustrate concepts of aesthetic beauty through the presence of adornment and
beautification, the concept of libido theory and its dependence on physical beauty, and finally the
concept of negative beauty, or the consequences of artificial collectivism and control. Charles Darwin,
Sigmund Freud, and Robert Musil all work off of each other and use the concept of beauty in different
ways, but when read in succession these works serve as a general timeline of gender and sexuality
theory. The combined sources of Charles Darwin s Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex
(1871), Sigmund Freud s Three Contributions to the Theory of Sex (1905), and Robert Musil s The
Confusions of a Young Törless (1906) solidify beauty in all its sense as holding a strong position in
the overarching history of gender and sexuality and are even more interesting to note due to their
progressive nature and philosophical intimacy. These texts stretch across different subjects, time
periods, and even authorial regions to explain how the concept of beauty has contributed to the history
of gender and sexuality, and that contribution must be

Walker Percy s Loss Of The Creature
Walker Percy explored the different aspects of human behavior in his essay, Loss of the Creature. He
saw people for being blind to the potential they have in the activities they do. The world is being seen
through phones and pictures, never by the real experiences or by the naked eye. Humans will
experience a vast amount of information in their lives, but too much exposure leads to boredom. Percy
s opinion is to experience subjects on your own, to think about what is happening, instead of being
told or shown, and to discover what has never been found before. Tours are useless, projects are
disregarding towards their meaning, and his essay persuades people to look at life through a harder
and beneficial way. The Grand Canyon, an immense monument of pure beauty, the distinct feature of

Baumrind Parenting Style
Parenting Styles Hanna Lagman Los Angeles Harbor College Abstract Parenting styles play an
important role in a child s development. Diana Baumrind identified four parenting styles:
authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. According to Baumrind, the authoritative style
works best. In order to understand parenting practices in other cultures, Mexican families and
Caucasian Non Hispanic families will be compared. It is hypothesized that the Mexican families
utilize the authoritarian parenting style, while the Caucasian Non Hispanic parents utilize authoritative
parenting style. All families were given a questionnaire to compare the parent s parental practices
across two cultural groups. It was anticipated that the families would differ in parental styles;
however, there were no differences between the parenting styles within the cultural groups. Parenting
Styles Developmental Theory In 1971, Diana Baumrind categorized different parenting styles by
observing middle class parents interacting with their children (Belsky, 2010, p. 201). Baumrind s
parenting styles influence the field of child development and have been widely cited. In her research,
she developed four parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. They are
analyzed by two factors: responsiveness and demandingness. Parental responsiveness refers to how
parents respond to the child s needs. Parental demandingness refers to the parent s

Analysis Of William Du Bois s The Soul Of The Black Folk...
Historiography has changed immensely since the beginning of the historian profession. Times of
conflict can result in the approaches of historiography changing in a short period. By the end of the
nineteenth century, he writing of American history had changed from consensus to progressivism. This
opened up a new form of writing and opportunities to include different approaches or fields, such as
science, economics, political science, and sociology, to help the understanding of the topic. In 1903,
William Du Bois, influenced by Pragmatism, wrote about the Civil War and how it was a result of
economic and social factors of African Americans in his book The Soul of the Black Folk. Then,
Charles and Mary Beard wrote The Rise of American Civilization in 1927, reconsidering and adding
economic factors and the inclusion of women s roles into the history of the American Revolution.
Then, after the Second World War, the critical approach was seen as insulting, and historians started to
take a consensus approach again. One of the most influential consensus historians of this time was
Daniel Boorstin, who wrote The Genius of American Politics . This book helped explain the American
Revolution as a means of theory failure by showing how liberal also known as progressive historians
exaggerate on certain events or people that impacted the American Revolution, such as the Declaration
of Independence and Thomas Jefferson. He sees the American Revolution results were a positive

does not believe that a wall should exist simply for it just to be there. He cannot help but come to
notice that many people out in the world, or their area does not seem to like the wall as much as hi=e

Ken Elton Kesey Essay
Ken Elton Kesey, author and guru of the hippie generation, was born on September 17, 1935, in La
Junta, Colorado. However, Kesey was brought up in Springfield, Oregon, where his parents had a
dairy farm and he was prominent in wrestling, as well as playing football. Kesey also developed an
interest in theatre at the University of Oregon at this time, but a scholarship for his accomplishments
in wrestling deterred him from pursuing an acting career.
After marrying Norma Faye Haxby, Kesey s high school girlfriend, he considered a career as an actor
once more, but instead he won a scholarship to the graduate program in writing at Stanford University
(A E Networks Television, 23 Mar. 2016) and enrolled there in 1958 (Public Broadcasting Service,
n.d.). While attending Stanford in 1960, Kesey began volunteering as a paid experimental subject by
the U.S. Army. During these experiments, he was given mind altering drugs and told to report on the
effects. Simultaneously, he worked as an attendant in a psychiatric ward and these ... Show more

This belief manifested into the novel Sometimes a Great Notion, and Kesey s group, The Merry
Pranksters. In 1964, they went on a cross country trip in Further , an old bus covered in kaleidoscopic
graffiti. The Merry Pranksters ended up in the World s Fair in New York City and conducted Acid
Tests where an attendee would drink electric , or acid laced Kool Aid and have to resist the urge to
freak out. Sometimes these events would include guests such as the Warlocks, or The Grateful Dead.
The Merry Pranksters were temporarily interrupted when Kesey was charged for possessing
marijuana. To avoid being arrested, he faked a suicide note and fled to Mexico. The following year,
Kesey returned to the United States and endured a six month sentence on a work farm before resuming
his fun with the Merry

Russia and It s Culture
Most people can agree that Russia is an interesting culture, even if they know very little about it. It has
unique aspects to it, such as its political power, military, food, and even language. The US is
competitors with them, yet neither ever called for war. Russia is a very literate country, one of the
highest in literacy. Russia has so much more to it than its stereotype, such as being known for large
mobsters and mafia groups. Russia is much more than that, and not many people want to learn more or
look past it. Russia may be a competitor to the US, but the fact that it is such a great competitor proves
the fact that they are a great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They feared those who were not family, and they feared those who were not friends, which kept
people together. Not only their family, but to their homeland also is what they stay loyal to, and they
will stand up and defend it. They believe in their country, just as America believes in their own, even
if America doesn t see it as a great lifestyle. They have songs and poems that are greatly patriotic in
their country that they use to represent Russia with. The Russians have a thing called Russian Pride ,
and if someone insults their country, the person insults them. They expect everyone to recognize the
great cultural heritage they have. They also have come to terms that their lives are difficult and that
they can get through the struggles and pain they face, where other people might not of.
Russia used to be a communist country as mentioned earlier. Russia stayed a communist country for
over 70 years. In 1991, Russia ended the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR). The Soviet

The Migration From Magnetic Stripe And The Europay...
The migration from magnetic stripe to the Europay MasterCard Visa (EMV) chip standard promises
enhanced credit card security, and the opportunity to offer loyalty and reward programs to cardholders
(Peterson, 2004). EMV chips are finally gaining a strong momentum in the United States banking
system. The promise of enhanced security and benefits is a hit with banks and consumers alike. The
United States is very late to the game though; Europe and Asia have implemented the EMV
technology since the early 2000s. Within Asia Pacific, Visa has issued more than 20 million Visa EMV
cards, and globally this figure is in excess of 100 million. Since January 2003, every new point of sale
terminal deployed in the region is required to be EMV compliant. By 2008, we expect over 90 per
cent of all terminals to be EMV enabled (Peterson, 2004). Credit unions and banks have finally begun
rolling out the EMV chip enabled debit cards to customers. The adoption percentage will hit the low
70s, far lower than countries that have had the technology already. A low adoption percentage of EMV
shows how the current banking system is slow to adapt to change. If the banking system wants to be
current and keep cost low they need to start embracing new technology as soon as it becomes
available. The issue banks/credit unions will face is; any fraud that occurs on customer s accounts with
debit card will be their responsibility. Our current banking system needs to adopt the new EMV
technology faster,

A Hunger Artist Analysis

ENGL MWF 11am
Explication Essay A Hunger Artist The children stood opened mouthed, holding each others hands for
security (Pg. 353) Passion and desire for attention are at its best what an artist live for. The hunger
artist is a man who wanted to be so great at his own craft that pain and suffering were a small price to
pay in order for people to give him recognition ultimately leading to his demise. The series of events
that lead to the hunger artist s death ultimately granted him the freedom to never have to feel the urge
to eat again and released him from the restraints that society put on his life. First when he was
receiving the attention society had given to him his life was well and worth the pain. ... Show more

parallels a lot of the problems that artist s entertainers and many others feel when they are doing
something to receive attention and a feeling of worth in the eyes of society. If people can read this
story and learn the meaning of self worth from this story, then the hunger artist did not suffer and die
in vein, instead he lives on as a martyr for those who seek to do something like it in any sense and it
should teach people to be thankful for the little praise they may

How Has Dance Changed Over Time
The History of dance is very complex and difficult to explain, being that it goes back millions of years
ago. Dance has been a part of humanity for as long as anyone can remember, dance has evolved over
time into something extravagant, it has been changed because of humanity and it has changed with
humanity, and it will keep changing regardless of what we as people do to it. Dance is a wonderful
thing that most people love and will keep loving as time goes on. Dance is a form of art, a language.
Today we find dance in all aspects of culture. Dance has evolved from, and with, many different
cultures, including African American, Indian American, Greek, Rome, Latin, and dozens of other
places and cultures. Dance is used in entertainment, gestures that we use everyday, and religious
ceremonies. Some studies that tie into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dance has changed quite a bit over the years, in many small and drastic measures, but in the end dance
is still dance, just evolved. Dance today is a much more competitive sport than it used to be. Dance
used to be something that people did because of tradition, or for fun. Today people still dance for fun
but, most dance for sport. People who dance at dance studios like, Just For Kix, Miss Melinda s and,
St. Cloud School of dance are all examples of dance studios in St. Cloud, Minnesota. At these studios
people can dance in different styles of dance, styles like jazz, kick, lyrical, tap, contemporary, street
jazz, hip hop, and ballet, just to name a few. All of these styles have evolved from what they used to
be. Contemporary is a mix of jazz and lyrical. Lyrical is a style of natural movements and gestures, the
music that goes with lyrical is usually slow and flowing. Jazz is very upbeat, and fast. Street jazz is a
mix of jazz and hip hop. Hip hop is very funky and fun, it is very sassy. Hip hop music is like the

Analysis Of Tinker Vs. Des Moines, And Bethel V. Fraser
The first amendment, which is considered the right to freedom of speech, is a misconception to many.
Not all citizens, but some, think that because of the first amendment; they can say whatever they want.
Although citizens of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, this freedom of speech is
viewed differently by others. Which leads to confusion as to what can be said and what cannot be said.
Both court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines, and Bethel v. Fraser involved the confusion and
misunderstanding of this first amendment. In December, 1969, a group of students in Des Moines held
a meeting in the home of Christopher Eckhardt to plan a public showing of their support for a truce in
the Vietnam War. 1 These students decided to wear black armbands to show their support. These
students included: John F. Tinker, Hope Tinker, Mary Beth Tinker, Paul Tinker, and Christopher
Eckhardt. Whenever the Principal found out about their plan, he stated that any student found wearing
these black armbands would be suspended.2 Despite the Principal s warning, the students still wore
the black armbands.3 On December 16, Christopher Eckhardt and Mary Beth Tinker wore their black
armbands to school and were sent home. The next day, John Tinker wore his armband and was also
sent home. Because of the protest, the students did not return to school until after New Year s Day.
This was the date they planned to end the protest.4 Parents, of the children who were sent home, were
furious.

Human Split Brain Study
I will reorganize this question to three big components with a different order compared with
the original one: 1) my opinion on whether the left and right hemisphere will response the same
or differently to faces on the left and right visual field; 2) differences and relationships between
the left and right hemisphere in processing faces; 3) explanation of my opinion for 1).
3.1 My point of view
In my opinion, either when the faces are presented in the left or right visual field, the
responses of left and right hemisphere will both be different.
3.2 Left and right hemisphere in processing faces

model is that the two hemispheres exchange and utilize information symmetrically at early stages
of visual processing. A study (Yovel, Levy, Grabowecky, Paller, 2003) recorded event related
potentials (ERPs) to centrally presented face stimuli in which relevant facial information was
presented bilaterally or only in the left (left face) or the right (right face) visual field. The
behavioral results showed the best performance for the faces presented bilaterally, and the better
performance for the left than the right face. ERP results showed no evidence of asymmetric
transfer of information between the hemispheres at early stages of visual processing, and a
shorter latency of the face specific N170 component to the left than the right face together with a
larger amplitude at 220 280 and 400 600 msec over both hemispheres, indicated that the two
hemispheres symmetrically exchange facial information early in visual processing and generated
collaboration in a shared facial representation, in which facial information that is

Analysis Of National Lampoon s Big Five
National Lampoon s Christmas Vacation details the crazy escapades of the Griswold family as they
navigate the arrival of family, endure grouchy bosses, and struggle to create the perfect family
Christmas. The family patriarch, Clark Griswold, is the main protagonist and demonstrates a variety of
interesting psychological characteristics conducive to analysis. This paper assesses Clark from a trait
perspective, focusing on his lack of conscientiousness, and a non trait, psychoanalytic perspective, by
addressing how Clark regresses as a defense mechanism in response to tension and anxiety inducing
situations throughout the movie. One salient aspect of Clark s personality that can be observed from a
trait perspective is his lack of conscientiousness. The Big Five was established to create a standardized
list of essential traits to explain how/why individuals are both similar and different in personality. The
journey to establish the Big Five began with the Lexical Hypothesis, which took 17,953 adjectives and
consolidated them to 4,500 enduring psychological traits, which were whittled to 35 clusters of
personality, with a final factor analysis leading to the Big Five traits known today. Subsequent analysis
and repeated testing has consistently yielded the same five traits: extraversion, agreeableness,
conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience. The Big Five fall on a larger spectrum
that includes metatraits, as well as aspects and facets of

  • 2. Reaction Paper On Gels 1. Introduction 1.1. Gels 1.1.1. Definition The word gel is derived from gelatin and can be traced back to the Latin gelu for frost and gelare, meaning freeze or congeal . (1) According to the U. S. Pharmacopeia (USP), gels are defined as semisolid systems consisting of either suspensions made up of small inorganic particles or large organic molecules interpenetrated by a liquid . (2) Gels are also defined as two component semi rigid systems in which the liquid continuous phase is immobilized by a cross linked three dimensional network consisting of particles or solvated macromolecules in the disperse phase. (2,3) This disperse phase can be constituted by inorganic particles or organic macromolecules, primarily polymers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process is referred to as swelling. This phenomenon occurs as the solvent penetrates the matrix. Gel gel interactions are replaced by gel solvent interactions. The degree of swelling depends on the number of linkages between individual molecules of gelling agent and on the strength of these linkages7, 8. B) Syneresis Many gels often contract spontaneously on standing and exude some fluid medium. This effect is known as syneresis. The degree to which syneresis occurs, increases as the concentration of gelling agent decreases. The occurrence of syneresis indicates that the original gel was thermodynamically unstable. The mechanism of contraction has been related to the relaxation of elastic stress developed during the setting of the gels. As these stresses are relieved, the interstitial space available for the solvent is reduced, forcing the liquid out. C) Ageing Colloidal systems usually exhibit slow spontaneous aggregation. This process is referred to as ageing. In gels, ageing results in gradual formation of a denser network of the gelling agent. D) Structure The rigidity of a gel arises from the presence of a network formed by the interlinking of particles of the gelling agents. The nature of the particle and the stress, straightening them out and lessening the resistance to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Strict Dress Code What Can I Wear What can I wear to work? Some employers have a strict dress code, while others are very laid back. According to the type of business, the organization does could dictate the type of attire and grooming that is expected from the organization. Does the employer have a right to tell you what you can and cannot wear to work or even how to be groomed? In my opinion and through my experiences in life I would say yes they do, they have a business to run, and customers require certain expectations and those expectations are handed down to the employees. Employee rights must be taking into consideration in the process, along with other reasons for the policies implemented such as setting guidelines for dress and grooming that could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, we have issues occasionally and we handle those swiftly and consistently with all employees. If we did not have these guidelines in place, we would have employees showing up in flip flops to move pallets and heavy boxes with a high risk of foot injuries. Others would be caught in the buffing wheel due to a loose tank top that had been cut down the side. How do I know this? The reason I know this is because even with the policy we have in place these few incidents have happened and the employees in both of these situations that I mentioned actually had the accident described. In addition, different businesses would require different standards and could have a much stricter dress code policy. Employees that have direct interaction with the public should be well groomed and dressed appropriately. The more formal or professional the culture the need is greater for a policy governing hygiene and grooming along with dress code. In addition, organizations that require work with heavy machinery and dangerous machinery requires standards to satisfy safety hazards (Sussman, 2017). Natural formations of rock with stunning depth and size introduce a smooth, chiseled out staircase, of solid gray stone, which leads downward into grooved out tunnel of stone running through the earth. As the the path starts to decline, it begins shifting toward the direction of the valley. Running water can be heard, flowing in a manner of constant control and power, slowing only at certain times of the seasons. To the left, a waterfall can be partially seen roaring with a vigorous energy, cascading down the rock, plummeting into a shallow pool of water. The pool attempts to engulf three large boulders sitting on the outskirts, only able to claim their undersides. Further, a bridge comes into view, standing proud, with a solid construction of rock and mortar. On each side it offers a wall, both of which rise to protect from the drop below, with the left side forming a connection to the stone wall that preceded them. The path continues on, its convex shape of smooth stone created, suspended in the air. It finds little to care about the stream below, which meekly runs off to connect to the main pool. As the waterfall finds itself in full view, it is proudly able to show off the full might it possesses. Continuing, the path soon finds itself at the beginning of a new set of stairs. The stairs are a bit more deteriorated and uneven, showing lots of cracks and moss. They hug around a corner of exposed rock with a smaller, aging stone wall built to its right side. • 6. Abraham Promises The Bible teaches that God s longing to redeem the world has always been His desire, but sinful man has refused God s grace. The appeal to man to turn from his selfish ways dates back to the Old Testament and is clearly displayed in the actions God puts into place with Abraham and the formation of the nation of Israel. These activities are evident in Abraham and the nation of Israel through promises made, examples to show His glory, and Israel s comparison to the Church today. Promises Made In Genesis, God promised blessings to Abraham that would carry to his descendants (Gen. 12:2 3 [NASB]).1 Through these blessings, one man and his family would benefit the whole world and begin a process of ingathering from the darkness and disintegration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As part of those activities, the Scripture clearly indicates His desire to declare Himself to all nations, tongues, and tribes. Walter Kaiser explains that the Old Testament unfolds a plan (Gen. 12:3), a purpose (Ps. 67:1 7) and the need for participation (Exod. 19:4 6) by the nation of Israel.11 There are three significant areas that serve as evidence of God s intentions. They are the use of the Israelites to reach the world as a proclamation, Abraham s specific calling to become a priestly nation, and the nation as an example. God s plan and work are directed to the entire of humanity with His desire to save all of mankind.12 However, man s struggle against God is apparent in events such as the attempt to reach heaven at Babel (Gen. 11:1 9) and the universal condemnation of wickedness, which caused the great flood (Gen. 6:5).13 Israel was designed to be a solid foundation for other nations to turn to. Verkuyl states that even the nations who oppose God will one day celebrate in restored fellowship.14 Israel will become the permanent presence of God s people acting and relating with the world. God s word even makes provision to those who choose to join the nation and accepts them as one born into the community (Exod. 12:48 49).15 While they were never to become part of the world, Isreal was to live in the world and be set aside for the purposes of ... Performance Enhancing Drugs In Sports Political In New Zealand, this year the laws surrounding drugs in sport have been updated so that they are now at the same standard of those of the World Anti Doping Agency s 2015 world anti doping code. This meant increasing the penalty of those caught using performance enhancing drugs from a 2 year ban to 4 years for first time offenders. This means that an athlete that is caught using drugs at the Olympics, they will miss the next one. The laws have also been changed so that all supporting staff/team members of the athlete are subject to these laws as well and therefore they can receive banes as well. They also extended the consequences to anyone who tries to cover up any doping that is occurring. These law changes were set in place to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because in the sporting environment it is hard to get away from people using these drugs and the athlete can start thinking that in order for them to beat these people they too would need to dope. This can have a greater impact in team sports opposed to individual sports. This is because in an individual sport, the athlete only has their self to let down if they don t perform well, but in a team sport the athlete lets down the whole team it they aren t preforming at a high enough standard. Also because if they are in a team where everyone is taking perform enhancing drugs they are unable to get away from them and are more likely to dope as well. However drugs in team sports come with greater risks because if one member gets caught using, whether the entire team is or not, the whole team will get disqualified, not just that single athlete. An example of an athlete was part of a team and used performance enhancing drugs because the rest of the team was and therefore was trapped in that environment was Stephen Swart. Stephen Swart was part of Lance Armstrong s Motorola cycling team in 1995 1996 during the Tour De France but in an interview he did in 2004 with Sports Illustrate he confirms the allegations of Lance Armstrong s doping saying He was the instigator. By employing modern stealth capabilities the coalition forces intended on targeting a specific Iraqi radar dish, which would, unless destroyed, alert Iraqi air defence of the impending assault. The entire coalition attack armada moved north, comprising of hundreds of aircraft from many different nations and services, proceeded into hostile airspace at 2:10 am, Baghdad time . Eight US Army AH 64 Apache helicopters led by two US Air ForceMH 53 Pave Low helicopters destroyed Iraqi radar sites near the Iraqi Saudi Arabian border which could have warned Iraq of an impending attack, hence providing the coalition forces with an initial advantage. Shortly after the operation was authorised and the initial assaults on airfields in Western Iraq begun. Coupled with the assault on these specific airfields, a large US led squadron began to bomb the Iraqi city of Baghdad , which was to act as a diversion, which resulted in the small Iraqi air forces currently deployed to return to Baghdad in an effort to counter the coalition bombing campaign. Because of this, the opinions held on this subject vary. In the editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses , the Editorial Board of the Chicago Tribune defends the idea of education and free speech. The Editorial Board states that students today are not receiving as useful of an education because of the barriers put on free speech. In addition, they argue that in not allowing students to feel uncomfortable, they are not receiving a true education. [A little more summary here would be helpful how does the author support these claims?] The editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses, introduces a valid logical argument on education through describing instances in which students experience uncomfortable learning situations, and the ways in which they were handled. [Hannah, your reasons here are about content, not about rhetoric what rhetorical reasons is the argument strong?] The true substance of this editorial comes from the authors use of logical appeals and its relatability to students. [These are two different ideas which is going to make your paragraph rather jumbled. How could you reorganize to make sure each paragraph is focused on a single unified idea?] The author argues the importance in not going so far in protecting undergraduates (n.p.) from controversial or touchy subjects. This is an important topic because college cost has been a problem for many individuals for decades and it still is. College cost is something that shapes people s lives and it worries them because college cost is what determines if they re going to continue going to college. It s something that people should take lightly because college is pretty expensive. According to the advocacy group complete college America, it cost 63,718 for one extra year to attend college. For students who take longer to finish school because of certain requisites, it becomes a toll because of the cost. According to Norton Field Guide to writing by Richard Bullock and Maureen Daly Goggin found a report on Los Angeles bases campaigns for college opportunity, saying students who attend school 6 years instead of 4 years will lose 110,900 dollars in their lifetime. Many people in the work field and colleges expect students to attend school for four years. According to the NFGW, nearly nine out of 10 freshmen think they will earn their bachelor degree within the traditional four years. Yet In the NFGW quotes the U.S Department of Education and they report that about 45 percent won t have finished. • 15. William Carlos Williams s Poem Marriage Poems are the best to express thoughts to readers, many writers choose to write poems to speak their feelings which plain ordinary texts will not do. Three poems have special ideas about marriage, they are: Marriage by William Carlos Williams, Marriea Love by Kuan Tao Sheng, and an untitled one by Apache Song. All three of them have a central idea of marriage; two people are one individual after marriage, one cannot separate from the other one. These poems are short but they carry deep morals about marriage. They have a common characteristics where they all visualize the bonding between the couple into things we feel comfortable about. There are three main aspects of poems content, structure, and tone I would discuss about how the authors uses similar writing styles to bring out the common idea behind. All contents of the three poems are very visual. In Marriage, Williams describes men and women as streams and fields and in Marriea Love, Kuan describes them as clays. Similarly, Song describes the relationship between married couples as solutions to problem, like, shelter for rain and warmth for coldness. Visualizing helps reader to understand the author s point of view on marriage. We can see that all three of them implies that, after a couple is married they become one individual and should not and cannot be separated. Marriage says that men and women as streams and fields. Gracile Features Introduction The more gracile features that denote a female typically include the smaller size or often nonexistence of certain features found on the skeleton including but not limited to the nuchal crest, mastoid process, and brow ridges. Also, the average height of a female is shorter than that of the average male. Due to this difference in skeletal structure, most of the bones in the female skeleton should in some form be sexually dimorphic. The trend of smaller features is of course excluding the pelvic girdle, on which most female features are larger and rounder due to the skeletal requirements of childbirth. Due to these past studies, it is logical to assume that the same sexually dimorphism can be found in the European population. In order to understand parenting practices in other cultures, Mexican families and Caucasian Non Hispanic families will be compared. It is hypothesized that the Mexican families utilize the authoritarian parenting style, while the Caucasian Non Hispanic parents utilize authoritative parenting style. All families were given a questionnaire to compare the parent s parental practices across two cultural groups. It was anticipated that the families would differ in parental styles; however, there were no differences between the parenting styles within the cultural groups. Parenting Styles Developmental Theory In 1971, Diana Baumrind categorized different parenting styles by observing middle class parents interacting with their children (Belsky, 2010, p. 201). Baumrind s parenting styles influence the field of child development and have been widely cited. In her research, she developed four parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. They are analyzed by two factors: responsiveness and demandingness. Parental responsiveness refers to how parents respond to the child s needs. Parental demandingness refers to the parent s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Analysis Of William Du Bois s The Soul Of The Black Folk... Historiography has changed immensely since the beginning of the historian profession. Times of conflict can result in the approaches of historiography changing in a short period. By the end of the nineteenth century, he writing of American history had changed from consensus to progressivism. This opened up a new form of writing and opportunities to include different approaches or fields, such as science, economics, political science, and sociology, to help the understanding of the topic. In 1903, William Du Bois, influenced by Pragmatism, wrote about the Civil War and how it was a result of economic and social factors of African Americans in his book The Soul of the Black Folk. Then, Charles and Mary Beard wrote The Rise of American Civilization in 1927, reconsidering and adding economic factors and the inclusion of women s roles into the history of the American Revolution. Then, after the Second World War, the critical approach was seen as insulting, and historians started to take a consensus approach again. One of the most influential consensus historians of this time was Daniel Boorstin, who wrote The Genius of American Politics . This book helped explain the American Revolution as a means of theory failure by showing how liberal also known as progressive historians exaggerate on certain events or people that impacted the American Revolution, such as the Declaration of Independence and Thomas Jefferson. In his piece, Mending Wall , it seems to talk about two neighbors meeting to repair a wall that divides their property. The narrator is skeptical, he does not seem to understand the need for a wall when there is no livestock to be contained or anything of the sorts, only an apple and pine tree. He does not believe that a wall should exist simply for it just to be there. He cannot help but come to notice that many people out in the world, or their area does not seem to like the wall as much as hi=e does not like the wall. • 42. The Migration From Magnetic Stripe And The Europay... The migration from magnetic stripe to the Europay MasterCard Visa (EMV) chip standard promises enhanced credit card security, and the opportunity to offer loyalty and reward programs to cardholders (Peterson, 2004). EMV chips are finally gaining a strong momentum in the United States banking system. The promise of enhanced security and benefits is a hit with banks and consumers alike. The United States is very late to the game though; Europe and Asia have implemented the EMV technology since the early 2000s. Within Asia Pacific, Visa has issued more than 20 million Visa EMV cards, and globally this figure is in excess of 100 million. Since January 2003, every new point of sale terminal deployed in the region is required to be EMV compliant. By 2008, we expect over 90 per cent of all terminals to be EMV enabled (Peterson, 2004). Credit unions and banks have finally begun rolling out the EMV chip enabled debit cards to customers. The adoption percentage will hit the low 70s, far lower than countries that have had the technology already. A low adoption percentage of EMV shows how the current banking system is slow to adapt to change. If the banking system wants to be current and keep cost low they need to start embracing new technology as soon as it becomes available. The issue banks/credit unions will face is; any fraud that occurs on customer s accounts with debit card will be their responsibility. • 46. Analysis Of Tinker Vs. Des Moines, And Bethel V. Fraser The first amendment, which is considered the right to freedom of speech, is a misconception to many. Not all citizens, but some, think that because of the first amendment; they can say whatever they want. Although citizens of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, this freedom of speech is viewed differently by others. Which leads to confusion as to what can be said and what cannot be said. Both court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines, and Bethel v. Fraser involved the confusion and misunderstanding of this first amendment. In December, 1969, a group of students in Des Moines held a meeting in the home of Christopher Eckhardt to plan a public showing of their support for a truce in the Vietnam War. 1 These students decided to wear black armbands to show their support. These students included: John F. Tinker, Hope Tinker, Mary Beth Tinker, Paul Tinker, and Christopher Eckhardt. Whenever the Principal found out about their plan, he stated that any student found wearing these black armbands would be suspended.2 Despite the Principal s warning, the students still wore the black armbands.3 On December 16, Christopher Eckhardt and Mary Beth Tinker wore their black armbands to school and were sent home. The next day, John Tinker wore his armband and was also sent home. Because of the protest, the students did not return to school until after New Year s Day. This was the date they planned to end the protest.4 Parents, of the children who were sent home, were furious. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The family patriarch, Clark Griswold, is the main protagonist and demonstrates a variety of interesting psychological characteristics conducive to analysis. This paper assesses Clark from a trait perspective, focusing on his lack of conscientiousness, and a non trait, psychoanalytic perspective, by addressing how Clark regresses as a defense mechanism in response to tension and anxiety inducing situations throughout the movie. One salient aspect of Clark s personality that can be observed from a trait perspective is his lack of conscientiousness.
