Tao Te Ching Sparknotes
Tao Te Ching is one of the most well known Chinese philosophical scripture believed to be penned
between 6th and 4th Century BC and authored by Lao Tzu. It has been a bedrock for the ancient
spiritual and religious tradition of Taoism. Tao Te Ching includes two books of poetic verses
explaining principle aspects of Taoism such as the metaphysical concept of Tao roughly translated as
the Way or the path, the consequences of action and inaction, virtue and the juxtaposed behavior of
nature. The first book discusses the manifestation of the Way and how it directs us in harmonizing
with our own qualities, morals and virtue which eventually help us in harmonizing with the working
of the nature. The second book deals with the difficulties of governing ... Show more content on

Everyone who has an inclination towards spirituality will gain enough from this book to keep them
searching for the more mysterious and unanswered questions of life and the working of the nature.
Although the book can be extremely difficult to understand at times with few concepts that might be
outright inconceivable for some, the simple wisdom imparted by the book in the form of morals and
virtue lessons using real life and practically achievable examples is the reason I recommend this book
to be read. For such is the time in which we live that we could use some concrete

The Kingdom of Frinda
Lidah leapt to her feet as though she d been electrocuted, when she saw Amir walk through the doors.
She stared sadly at the man who walked in, his face showing no emotion, as he walked towards the
middle of the great hall with Matthew and Pinnah following behind. Assertions showing on their eyes,
as they looked around the room making sure no Soldiers were around.
Zantha stood up slowly, pulling a face at seeing the three men. She smiled towards Matthew, holding
her hands out for him to take. However, Matthew stood still, glaring hard at the queen and making her
frown once more.
She took it away then? Zantha sneered as she looked at Matthew with bitterness.
Lidah smiled, sighing so loud, that everyone turned to look at her.
I would never love someone as foul as you, Matthew snarled, as he looked at the queen harshly.
Zantha said nothing, merely biting her bottom lip, her heart feeling cold at his words.
Julu had sat on the step near the throne chairs. She was not allowed to sit on the empty throne, and she
was not going to sit with Lidah. Their gossip over a nice cup of tea had been over many centuries ago.
Julu stared at Pinnah, unsure what he was doing, as he stood side by side with Matthew, his face
showing its normal military posture, and his hand holding on to the hilt of his sword, which was still
cased up in its scabbard. She smiled towards him, pleased that he had followed the queen s orders.
Come general, Zantha beckoned, her voice going as softly as it

The Met Essay
I joined the class for the trip to the Big Apple on the eve of Halloween. We departed from a campus
parking lot early Saturday morning. Our destination was the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is
located at 82nd Street and Fifth Avenue. I had never been to the Met before and I was very impressed.
I wandered throughout the museum going from gallery to gallery until I was able to find the two
paintings that interested me the most.
The first painting to catch my eye was the Virgin and Child with Saint Anne, which was painted by
Albrecht Durer around 1519. The German artist lived from 1471 to 1528 and is considered by many
the greatest German Renaissance artist of them all. Albrecht Durer used an oil medium on a wooden
support to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The artist s palette had a fairly wide range of colors when painting this artwork. The use of many
different colors makes this a polychromatic work of art. He used a few warm colors along with a lot of
black and white. Most of the areas of this painting that are painted with warm colors are low in
saturation. This is shown in the clothing of the woman holding the child.
It seems the source of light comes from the top left hand corner of the painting. The light source
causes the three figures to have a high intensity level. This is shown on the child s face, which is not
only the focal point of this picture but also the highlight. Durer also used chiaroscuro to show the
depth in the painting. The shadow on the woman with the child makes the painting appear to be three
dimensional. After seeing how representational a painting can be I decided to take a look at the
opposite end of the spectrum.
The other painting I chose is titled Stepping Out. Roy Lichtenstein did this painting in 1978. He
worked as a commercial artist as well as a graphic designer before becoming popular as a Pop Artist.
Lichtenstein used a similar medium, which was oil and magna, but chose to paint his picture on
canvas instead of wood. While Stepping Out is still a portrait it is unlike Durer `s work in that it is an
abstract artwork. The male form in the painting is fairly realistic while the female form is very surreal.
Lichtenstein also used

Rhetorical Analysis Of Bassackwards
Rhetorical Analysis of Bassackwards Bassackwards by Jay Nordlinger, published by National Review
Digital on January 29, 2007, is a short article arguing why immigrants should learn to speak English
instead of supervisors learning the broken version of their language. Although Nordlinger wants
immigrants from all around the world to learn English, he mainly focuses his writing on immigrants of
Latin descent who speak Spanish. He talks about all the variations of Spanish that are taught to
supervisors and business owners to help them communicate with their workers. There are classes such
as Restaurant Spanish, Fireman Spanish, and Health Care Spanish. He then gives us an example of
Construction Spanish which is the most popular, by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done throughout the text because Nordlinger wants to make some kind of change in society
through the use of critical humor. The name of the article Bassackwards is a perfect example of this
scenario. The first thing someone sees when reading a book or article is the title. Nordlinger
capitalizes on this by using word play to give off the intended effect of amusement. Bassackwards the
title of Nordlinger s article is the backward version of ass backwards which means backwards or in a
contrary way. The title is very appropriate for the article because the whole article is about how we
mishandle the Spanish immigrant situation in America, and force our supervisors and business owners
to learn Spanish, instead of it being the other way around. Therefore by naming this article
Bassackwards not only does he uses satire but also gives the reader an insight of what it will be about.
Another great use of satire by Nordlinger is when he talks about a situation that occurred at the time
he was working at a firm in Washington, D.C. He was told that, when he wanted boxes thrown away,
he had to mark them BASURA. Nordlinger rebelled at writing BASURA, thinking it s a gross act of
separatism, and probably an insult to the workers. He later on justifies his actions by saying In
Guatemala, we would write BASURA. But here we write TRASH. This is very effective because it
makes the reader realize how ridiculous it is to write BASURA for American workers. Even though
they come from different countries and speak different language they must learn English ...to join the

Humor And Looking For Comedy In The Muslim World
I think humor is important for communication because it conveys another message and idea altogether.
We need to study something like humor in order to understand why we laugh and what kind of ideas
make us laugh. In the case of the movie Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World , I learned that
humor can create a good or bad connection between countries and not just its people. Humor is
subjective because of the audience it communicates to; as a result, not everyone may understand a
certain reference when it comes to farce, comedy or jokes that are being discussed. Humor is
important when it comes to communicating an idea through ads, propaganda and even social media
like Twitter (Holton and Lewis 1).
In the film, Albert Brooks, is tasked by the American government to determine what makes the
Muslim people laugh. At first, he thinks that the task is actually achievable based on what he is told by
the government personnel in the meeting he attends at the start of the movie. But throughout the whole
film, he realizes that the task is more daunting than expected. Despite the help that he receives through
the US government in completing his diplomatic mission, he doesn t succeed. A possible reason for
this could be how he isn t able to communicate his humor to his audience. Albert didn t fully
understand that his goal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

important way of maintaining a cultural identity and coping with the stresses of being a cultural

As a Designer
I must say that I was a little less than enthralled about receiving a project, which required me to hunt
down and interrogate an established designer to the point of annoyance. After reading the circulated
example and seeing that, the author Chris Metcalf, started with the same viewpoint. I began to be
swayed to the same train of thought, which had enlightened Chris. A sudden and drastic change in my
thoughts leads me to see that this is, hopefully, my final year as a student designer. The final year, in
which I can ask the questions, delve into, what is commonly believed to be, general knowledge within
the design field.
Immediately I sought to find a designer whom I could interview. Making a list of who was in the

Or possibly it was the following sentence ( ...As designers we influence the way people interact with
our products... ) as this one sentence made me realise I am the quiet little voice that tells the user to
hold the product like this or tilt it that way or put the powder here. The intrinsic little conscience of a
product is my thoughts and aspirations for the product. These followed through from my thoughts
through my pencil into the final prototype and finally embedded in every one of product units
manufactured. The product may not be a direct extension of me but perhaps more closely a child of
personal progressions and growing pains as a designer. My thoughts on this topic lead me down a very
long and winding path where I eventually end up realising. Designers have a lot of power in how a
product is used and interacted with by users. Everyone now knows after watching that one movie with
great power comes great responsibility .
Joe s viewpoint on working is almost a complete flip in thought, complexity and word count. Learn
the game to bend the rules . This seemed simple enough at the time but now that I have thought about
it some more I realise I would like to ask how far into the grey one can go with the bending of the
rules . There are always question left unanswered and next time I will ask a designer this question I
will weigh his opinion up against my own. Which is? I personally have no problem with that thought

Demotivating Us to be Moral?: Utilitarianism s Moral Overburdening and Bernard Williams Critique
Utilitarianism, at first, appears to be a rather uncontroversial ethical theory in that it bases its
plausibility on its basic principle of maximizing human happiness. Even so, it proves to be rather
problematic in many of its aspects as soon as one discerns how this ethical account ascribes moral
value to actions. Particularly, one worrying issue for utilitarianism, which I will be delving into, deals
with is its demands on the way in which agents are required to act and lead their lives in order for
them to be considered moral and for their lives to be considered good. The challenges surrounding the
stringent requirements of utilitarianism and its tendency to overburden moral agents with these
requirements is pointed out by Bernard Williams in his 1973 essay A Critique of Utilitarianism.
Williams worry boils down to this: if utilitarianism judges the morality of actions solely on the basis
of whether they maximize happiness (or not), then it seems that agents who are not at every moment
engaged in acts that are increasing the overall goodness in the world are either both directly and
indirectly responsible for others suffering that is caused or results of their actions or inaction. This
commitment utilitarianism ties us to is what Williams refers to as

Advertising Strategy Of Coca Cola
Coca Cola is one of the biggest companies worldwide, operating in the soft drinks industry. It was
founded in 1886 by a pharmacist from Atlanta, called John S. Pemberton. Two years later, John sold
portions of the business to various parties, and the biggest portion of shares went to the famous
businessmen from Atlanta, Asa G. Candler. Under Candler s leadership, Coca Cola expanded its
distribution on a huge scale beyond Atlanta. For the first time in 1894, Joseph Biedenharn introduced
the bottling machinery and was the first to make this beverage portable. Since then, the bottling of
Coca Cola has changed numerous times and was also has been imitated by different competitors. In
1977, the bottling of Coca Cola was finally trademarked and since then, it has been an inspiration for
the artists across the globe. Evolution of the Coca Cola bottle has brought so many different
memorable slogans and ideas and many campaigns were launched with a series of ads including such
slogans. The basic proposition of Coca Cola is to bring refreshment, joy, value and fun to the
stakeholders in order to nurture and protect the brand and the variety of products it offers. One of the
most famous advertising slogans in Coca Cola history The Pause That Refreshes first appeared in
1929. The theme of pausing with Coca Cola refreshment is still echoed in today s marketing. (Coca

Other factors are how kids play with each other, their peers they are surrounded by, and the media.
Males tend to be more physical when they play indicating that they are more aggressive than females
are. Both males and females play different sports than females. An instance would be football, soccer,
and wrestling, compared to cheerleading, gymnastics, and volleyball for the girls. Football, soccer,
and wrestling are a more physical contact sport than cheerleading, gymnastics or volleyball are. Peers
is also another part for socialization because the way boys or girls act around each other. Children
follow by example, so if they see their friends doing something, they will most likely follow. As
children get older, peers plays a bigger part in influencing children to act a certain way according to
society and other peers. Lastly, the media is additionally has a huge impression on how kids should act
and look. The commercials for children on T.V. convince children what they should be playing with,
who they should be playing with, how they should look, and how they should act. It is very rare to see
girls playing Legos or hot wheels in commercials. The same is for boys, commercials do not promote
boys playing with and accessorizing with Barbie dolls. Some clothes that are deemed to be gender

Most graduates have a lot of stress and worry about their futures, the uncertainty of where they are
going or what they will become. Ellen is relatable when she tells the graduates how she didn t know
who shes was, considering that, she was still dating men. Another use of a rhetorical question But why
am I here today? to introduce an anecdote about her growing up in New Orleans. This question takes
the audience s attention back to her, because, consequently, they know that Ellen will explain why she
is there; giving them a reason to listen to her words. Once again, Ellen asks What else can happen to
you? in order to commend the graduates of having success after the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. She
uses the hyperbole and rhetorical question, So what I m saying is, when you re older, a lot of you will
be gay. Anyone writing this stuff down? Parents? this keeps everybody s attention and loops the
parents into relating the commencement speech to them as well. Rhetorical questions help Ellen by
giving the crowd small moments to reflect and invites them into her speech, connecting to them and
allowing them to smile during serious content.
Furthermore, the use of hyperbole and metaphors are effective in this commencement speech. Ellen
uses a hyperbole when she rationalizes her anxiety about the success of her sitcom after the public

Social Class Differences On The Long Run Essay
Income equality has been on a steady rise since 1970 in both the United States and Europe. Over the
past several years, many researchers, such as Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez have been
conducting and publishing empirical studies which indicate that economic inequality is growing in
wealthy countries, like those in Europe and the United States. In fact, according to a graph published
in Piketty and Saez s study Inequality in the Long Run, both the United States and Europe s income
and wealth inequality generally decreased from 1900 1970, and then started increasing in the time
period after that. The results of this study suggest that social class differences may be growing in the
long run. This paper will examine this graph from the perspectives of both Adam Smith and Karl
Marx. Using Marx and Smith s findings in German Ideology and Wealth of Nations, this paper will
discuss Marx and Smith s main theories on capitalism and describe how these theories can be applied
to the interpretation of the graphs in the study Inequality in the Long Run. This paper will also discuss
the similarities and differences between Smith and Marx s interpretation of the data.
Smith s theory of capitalism, described in his book Wealth of Nations, discusses the ideas of the
division of labor, self interest, and the real value of products. According to Smith, the division of labor
arises from a human s ability to exchange goods. In the Wealth of Nations, Smith discusses how it is a

Dog Guard Dog Research Paper
The day I got my dog may have been the utmost prosperous day of my young life. We had always had
pets, but none of them were ever truly welcomed into our house. Any pet of ours previously was only
home on grill nights, a break from their duty as a guard dog, or they were left to live in a built to scale
house out in the backyard. We set out for something different when our guard dog Bane died, because
we all had our special moments with him. We all needed something to take our minds off of what
happened, so we started looking into adopting another dog. The year of 2013 when Bane left landed
on the same year that I became an only child within the house. Both my sister Shayla and my brother
Dustin had moved out of the house and living their own lives. I no longer had siblings to have fun
with. We were left with a perfect opportunity to find a younger dog, and to then raise it to be a guard
dog. My dad and I were hoping to find a Rottweiler specifically, as they make great guard dogs, and
automatically scare people. We tried once to adopt a puppy in Minnesota, but they would not let us

How American History Is Constantly Challenged By African...
How Americans romanticize their history is constantly challenged by African American artist Kara
Walker. Her controversial work has broken huge boundaries of race, gender, power and violence. But
Walker s art never had the intention of pleasing viewers or answering easy questions. Winning the
John.D and Catherine T. Mac Arthur Foundations genius grant at only twenty seven years old, Walkers
art has taunted Americans to recognize the legacy that slavery has left behind.
A move to Atlanta, Georgia in Walkers adolescence exposed her to the southern bigotry that inspired
her art in later years. However, only when she had completed her Masters of Fine arts in Rhode Island,
did she introduce themes of race into her work. On the entry of her first major work in 1994, she says
that much of her art work was exploring ...the problematics of making art as a young black woman
when constantly barraged and faced with a bunch of stereotypes about what it even means... (MoMA,
Kara Walker). Kara Walkers art demonstrates that the racism seen a century ago is still present in
American society today. The stereotype used frequently is the negress or black mistress, often over
sexualised and portrayed as a sex toy. Walker believes Western culture has created this specific
representation of what it means to be black. Her work as a solo artist has been displayed in the San
Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and internationally

Forrest was born with really strong and incredible fast running legs, but a weak spine in his back.
Because of this, he was forced to wear leg braces which made walking and running very difficult.

William Shakespeare s The Man From Stratford On Avon
The debate of the true authorship of Shakespeare is one that has been argued for centuries. While there
are various theories to suggest that William Shakespeare, the man from Stratford on Avon was not the
true author of the plays produced within his lifetime, one theory in particular seems to hold the most
concrete evidence. The authorship theory about Edward de Vere, Seventeenth Earl of Oxford seems to
have the most historical evidence proving that he is the writer of the plays and sonnets under the
pseudonym William Shakespeare. Looking at DeVere s personal life, one can see how his social status
and access to higher education would have made it more credible for him to have written such literary
masterpieces. Various circumstances of historical fact found about de Vere s life are mirrored in the
circumstances and relationships found within the works of Shakespeare. The rich settings in which
many of the plays are set include traditional and historical details that could not have been available to
anyone who did not travel to these places themselves. Lastly many of the biblical passages and
allusions found in the work of Shakespeare are also found in the Bible that de Vere had his personal
marks. There are too many historical facts found about DeVere that coincide with the plays of
Shakespeare that cannot be brushed aside as coincidence. This essay will aim to show how these
historical facts lead to solid proof that Edward DeVere was in fact the true author of the works

Explosion Of Crime In America
The scholarly evidence, in short, suggests that at the heart of the explosion of crime in America is the
loss of the capacity of fathers and mothers to be responsible in caring for the children they bring into
the world. Congress assume the high level of crime in America have its roots in poor employment
opportunities and a shortage of adequately funded social program This is one issue that we have to
take a look at and address. These shortcomings can be fix if we work together. While doing this
research I learn that children as young as 6 or 7 are carted off in handcuffs, locked up and saddled
with permanent criminal records. Trayvon McRae was one of the those 6 years old. After throwing a
tantrum in his music class, and kicking and

Bootlegging and Al Capone Essay
BOOTLEGGING In 1919, the Eighteenth Amendment was passed, this amendment made the
consumption and sell of alcohol illegal. A group of people referred to as moral reformers felt that
banning the sell and consumption of alcohol would better protect the lives of people as well as make
them better (Rose). Businesses, such as industrial businesses, believed that it would better productivity
if the workers could remain sober. The Volsted Act was passed shortly after the Eighteenth
Amendment to make sure it was enforced since local authorities did not do such; there were only
fifteen hundred agents to enforce the law and the act was also underfunded. Therefore, the Prohibition
was not enforced well enough and the organized crime rates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rich and poor people opposed the Prohibition and Capone felt that he was, ...supplying a public
demand. If (he) (broke) the law, (his) customers...some of the best people in Chicago, (were) as guilty
as (he) (was). Alphonse Capone (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Capone saw nothing wrong with
bootlegging and he often expressed it and showed his opposition towards the Prohibition Act. He
stated that, Prohibition (had) made nothing but trouble . He is basically saying that he is not the
problem with the crime in Chicago but the government is, for enforcing the law. He also expressed
how, When (he) sell(s) liquor, it is bootlegging; when (his) patrons serve it on Lake Shore Drive, it is
called hospitality. Now he is saying how he feels the government is discriminating against how
alcohol is distributed. Capone is a criminal who s trying to put reason behind his illegal actions
(BrainyQuote).
MURDER
Al Capone was notorious for his bootlegging and annihilating his competition; in order to do that, he
had to kill them. Before Capone became the big time bootlegger/ murderer/ assassination coordinator,
he had already taken a couple of lives. Capone had begun working for Torrio as an enforcer, bouncer,
and bartender; he was in a bar fight that got him his scar and his nickname Scarface . Shortly after this
incident, in 1919, in New York he was arrested because there were suspicions that he

The Death Penalty Throughout History
This paper explores how society has influenced the development of the death penalty throughout
history. It begins with a brief explanation of the origins of capital punishment, referencing the first
known documentation of actions punishable by death. The paper goes on to explore different methods
of execution and how they have progressed and changed over the years. Documented cases at different
points of history are referenced to show the relationship of time periods and beliefs to the
implementation of capital punishment. Finally, the development of different laws and changes to
existing laws pertaining to the death penalty are addressed. The History of the Death Penalty
The death penalty has changed drastically throughout history. Some of the first known written laws
regarding the death penalty date back to the eighteenth century BCE ( Part I , 2016). It is likely that
some form of the death penalty existed long before written history, with a basis in customs, not
legalities. The death penalty has continued to evolve throughout history, shaping the modern practices
used in the United States and other parts of the world today. The administration of the death penalty
has been shaped by the moral principles of those in authority and the mindset of the general public at
each stage of history. This is shown through the evolution of different methods of execution,
documented cases during critical points in history, and the laws pertaining to the death penalty at

Rfid in Wine Industry in France
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
France is the biggest wine producer in the world (7 8 billion bottles sold in 2010). 17% of French
drink wine regularly, which is a total of 9.35 million people. We identified that buying wine requires
knowledge of the different kinds of wine and that many consumers find it difficult to get the
information when they want it.
Our team has identified this pain point as an opportunity to launch our product using smart phones and
RFID technology on the wine bottles. The solution is an application on a smart phone which allows
the end user to scan the RFID tag on the wine bottle in order to get real time information on the wine
bottle, instant access to any promotion available and consumer ratings of the wine.
The RFID ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With our segments of targeted application end users, there are around 17% of 55 million people are
frequently wine drinkers in France, we estimate that 10% of them will be the innovators who start to
use our application fast, that will give us the end users to be 0.94 million. Our application will be very
efficient in functioning, fast access to specified and detailed wine information and interactive reviews
sharing within 2 minutes. The easy use will enhance the market penetration speed. With higher
frequency of application usage among our end users, our customers (wine retailers and wine
producers) will increase. We expect to start with 5 15 wine retailers and producers in first year and add
to 20 50 in second year, 50 100 in third year.
Market Penetration potentials
The French wine market is at its stable stage now, not fast growing anymore, but still with large
volume of consumption. We will start our marketing by key activities and relationships we can build
with our customers, with all the sales effort and partnership with RFID suppliers, we assume that our
market share will grow very fast from niche to 30% in the third year.
PEST assessment
Political normally, political factors will not affect people s mood and habit of drinking wine, if
anything bad or good, it perhaps can stimulate the consumption, but we need to

President Franklin D. Roosevelt
President Franklin D. Roosevelt, arguably one of the most famous Presidents because of his work
during such a difficult time took office in 1933. Roosevelt came into office with a bold plan and acted
on it swiftly, providing jobs and relief for those in need. Over the next eight years, the government
instituted a series of experimental projects and programs, known collectively as the New Deal, that
aimed to restore some measure of dignity and prosperity to many Americans. More than that,
Roosevelt s New Deal permanently changed the federal government s relationship to the U.S.
populace. The New Deal consisted of a number of government funded programs. For my purpose
though, I want to focus on the Bank Act of 1933. The Bill was sponsored by Sen. Carter Glass (D VA)
and Rep. Henry Steagall (D AL) and signed into law by Roosevelt in 1933. This policy change set up
the banking industry for a successful recovery and a strong future. The Bank Act of 1933 contained
many goals. One of the most crucial successes of this law was that commercial banking and
investment banking were now completely separate. This interaction had been a problem due to overlap
in business practices that weren t morally right. Another system of value that came from this act was
the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or FDIC, as many of us know it today. What the FDIC does
is insure deposits up to a certain amount. This was great for the clients of the bank and brought back a
sense of security among the

Meta-Organizations
Meta organizations for Public Health Service: a study of the Brazilian Telehealth Program. On the
other hand, Ahrne Brunsson (2010) pointed out that M O members have strong reasons to mitigate its
impact on their own autonomy and identity. However, according to the authors, if all members are
successful in making autonomous decisions, it is difficult to achieve coordination or undertake
collective action. If each member maintains its identity, then the common identity, the status, and the
ease of interaction will be threatened. M O members have not only strong reasons to maintain their
identity and autonomy, but also great capacity to do so, since many M O members have more
resources and more status than their own M O. According to Ahrne Brunsson, it is important for an M
O to attract members with the highest status. If the purpose is to maintain or increase the status of the
members, the M O must be able to include and retain the most important members because its
legitimacy is dependent on the success to recruit potential affiliates. Some organizations are more
attractive than others are , and for the M O to recruit all relevant members, it has to recruit the most
talented ones (i.e., those with more resources and greater competence). Moreover, M Os are more
limited, controlling fewer resources than most of its members, a situation that is rare in traditional
organizations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Does Atticus Show Courage
Courage is often a measure of our self esteem and will. Courage is what makes us individuals different
from others. It shows in what we believe and the power of belief over our will. It is always the
difficult path. It can be an unconscious act of boldness, but before all it is the conscious decision of a
person to act despite the danger. A model that proved the act of courage is Atticus Finch novel chracter
To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee. He is a man with a lot of skills, a good father, a
honorable citizen , a prominet lawyer and a human who was apreciate by the all people until one day

Robert E.Lee condemned him in the most ugly way, stating that Tom wanted to seduce and she didn t

Robinson, but unfortunateley all charges incriminated him, and he was declared only guilty even if
denied all charges, his truth was not heard by anyone because he was different from all only by race,
but not by rights, this was an advantage for him.The brave of Atticus observed when he didn t stop to

and it only depends on the tom do not pay for an act that belongs odd, so he filed the action to be tried
again but without success because soon Tom was killed in jail because he tried to escape, but was

The Books Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi
The books Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, as well as First They Killed My Father, by Loung Ung,
share many similarities throughout their exploration into children s experiences during wartime. For
instance, the identities and emotions of the main characters, Marji and Loung, are often strongly
influenced by the clothing that they are forced to wear. In Marji s case, it s the hijab Islamic veil which
all women are forced to wear after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. In Loung s, it s the black pajamas that
she and her family are forced to wear while they are prisoners in Ro Leap, Cambodia. Marji is first
introduced to the veil in a way that would be confusing to many children her age. From a child s
perspective, the requirement for all women to suddenly have to wear this additional piece of black
clothing came very suddenly and unexpectedly. The veil is used throughout the story to cover women
s bodies, as well as eventually to cover their own sense of self. The veil in Persepolis becomes a
symbol to describe the Iranian oppression of women when they are in the presence of adult men
outside of their family. Not all women are against the idea of the veil, but many are against the
concept of being forced to wear it by law. In no time, the way people dressed became an ideological
sign. There were two kinds of women. The Fundamentalist Woman. The Modern Woman. You showed
your opposition to the regime by letting a few strands of hair show (Satrapi 75). Soon, Marji rebels in

  • 2. Tao Te Ching Sparknotes Tao Te Ching is one of the most well known Chinese philosophical scripture believed to be penned between 6th and 4th Century BC and authored by Lao Tzu. It has been a bedrock for the ancient spiritual and religious tradition of Taoism. Tao Te Ching includes two books of poetic verses explaining principle aspects of Taoism such as the metaphysical concept of Tao roughly translated as the Way or the path, the consequences of action and inaction, virtue and the juxtaposed behavior of nature. The first book discusses the manifestation of the Way and how it directs us in harmonizing with our own qualities, morals and virtue which eventually help us in harmonizing with the working of the nature. The second book deals with the difficulties of governing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone who has an inclination towards spirituality will gain enough from this book to keep them searching for the more mysterious and unanswered questions of life and the working of the nature. Although the book can be extremely difficult to understand at times with few concepts that might be outright inconceivable for some, the simple wisdom imparted by the book in the form of morals and virtue lessons using real life and practically achievable examples is the reason I recommend this book to be read. For such is the time in which we live that we could use some concrete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Kingdom of Frinda Lidah leapt to her feet as though she d been electrocuted, when she saw Amir walk through the doors. She stared sadly at the man who walked in, his face showing no emotion, as he walked towards the middle of the great hall with Matthew and Pinnah following behind. Assertions showing on their eyes, as they looked around the room making sure no Soldiers were around. Zantha stood up slowly, pulling a face at seeing the three men. She smiled towards Matthew, holding her hands out for him to take. However, Matthew stood still, glaring hard at the queen and making her frown once more. She was not allowed to sit on the empty throne, and she was not going to sit with Lidah. Their gossip over a nice cup of tea had been over many centuries ago. Julu stared at Pinnah, unsure what he was doing, as he stood side by side with Matthew, his face showing its normal military posture, and his hand holding on to the hilt of his sword, which was still cased up in its scabbard. She smiled towards him, pleased that he had followed the queen s orders. Come general, Zantha beckoned, her voice going as softly as it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Met Essay I joined the class for the trip to the Big Apple on the eve of Halloween. We departed from a campus parking lot early Saturday morning. Our destination was the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is located at 82nd Street and Fifth Avenue. I had never been to the Met before and I was very impressed. I wandered throughout the museum going from gallery to gallery until I was able to find the two paintings that interested me the most. The first painting to catch my eye was the Virgin and Child with Saint Anne, which was painted by Albrecht Durer around 1519. The German artist lived from 1471 to 1528 and is considered by many the greatest German Renaissance artist of them all. Albrecht Durer used an oil medium on a wooden support to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The artist s palette had a fairly wide range of colors when painting this artwork. The use of many different colors makes this a polychromatic work of art. He used a few warm colors along with a lot of black and white. Most of the areas of this painting that are painted with warm colors are low in saturation. This is shown in the clothing of the woman holding the child. It seems the source of light comes from the top left hand corner of the painting. The light source causes the three figures to have a high intensity level. This is shown on the child s face, which is not only the focal point of this picture but also the highlight. Durer also used chiaroscuro to show the depth in the painting. The shadow on the woman with the child makes the painting appear to be three dimensional. After seeing how representational a painting can be I decided to take a look at the opposite end of the spectrum. The other painting I chose is titled Stepping Out. Roy Lichtenstein did this painting in 1978. He worked as a commercial artist as well as a graphic designer before becoming popular as a Pop Artist. Lichtenstein used a similar medium, which was oil and magna, but chose to paint his picture on canvas instead of wood. While Stepping Out is still a portrait it is unlike Durer `s work in that it is an abstract artwork. The male form in the painting is fairly realistic while the female form is very surreal. Lichtenstein also used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Rhetorical Analysis Of Bassackwards Rhetorical Analysis of Bassackwards Bassackwards by Jay Nordlinger, published by National Review Digital on January 29, 2007, is a short article arguing why immigrants should learn to speak English instead of supervisors learning the broken version of their language. Although Nordlinger wants immigrants from all around the world to learn English, he mainly focuses his writing on immigrants of Latin descent who speak Spanish. He talks about all the variations of Spanish that are taught to supervisors and business owners to help them communicate with their workers. There are classes such as Restaurant Spanish, Fireman Spanish, and Health Care Spanish. He then gives us an example of Construction Spanish which is the most popular, by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is done throughout the text because Nordlinger wants to make some kind of change in society through the use of critical humor. The name of the article Bassackwards is a perfect example of this scenario. The first thing someone sees when reading a book or article is the title. Nordlinger capitalizes on this by using word play to give off the intended effect of amusement. Bassackwards the title of Nordlinger s article is the backward version of ass backwards which means backwards or in a contrary way. The title is very appropriate for the article because the whole article is about how we mishandle the Spanish immigrant situation in America, and force our supervisors and business owners to learn Spanish, instead of it being the other way around. Therefore by naming this article Bassackwards not only does he uses satire but also gives the reader an insight of what it will be about. Another great use of satire by Nordlinger is when he talks about a situation that occurred at the time he was working at a firm in Washington, D.C. He was told that, when he wanted boxes thrown away, he had to mark them BASURA. Nordlinger rebelled at writing BASURA, thinking it s a gross act of separatism, and probably an insult to the workers. He later on justifies his actions by saying In Guatemala, we would write BASURA. But here we write TRASH. This is very effective because it makes the reader realize how ridiculous it is to write BASURA for American workers. • 6. Humor And Looking For Comedy In The Muslim World I think humor is important for communication because it conveys another message and idea altogether. We need to study something like humor in order to understand why we laugh and what kind of ideas make us laugh. In the case of the movie Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World , I learned that humor can create a good or bad connection between countries and not just its people. Humor is subjective because of the audience it communicates to; as a result, not everyone may understand a certain reference when it comes to farce, comedy or jokes that are being discussed. Humor is important when it comes to communicating an idea through ads, propaganda and even social media like Twitter (Holton and Lewis 1). In the film, Albert Brooks, is tasked by the American government to determine what makes the Muslim people laugh. At first, he thinks that the task is actually achievable based on what he is told by the government personnel in the meeting he attends at the start of the movie. But throughout the whole film, he realizes that the task is more daunting than expected. Despite the help that he receives through the US government in completing his diplomatic mission, he doesn t succeed. A possible reason for this could be how he isn t able to communicate his humor to his audience. Albert didn t fully understand that his goal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After reading the circulated example and seeing that, the author Chris Metcalf, started with the same viewpoint. I began to be swayed to the same train of thought, which had enlightened Chris. A sudden and drastic change in my thoughts leads me to see that this is, hopefully, my final year as a student designer. The intrinsic little conscience of a product is my thoughts and aspirations for the product. These followed through from my thoughts through my pencil into the final prototype and finally embedded in every one of product units manufactured. The product may not be a direct extension of me but perhaps more closely a child of personal progressions and growing pains as a designer. My thoughts on this topic lead me down a very long and winding path where I eventually end up realising. Designers have a lot of power in how a product is used and interacted with by users. Everyone now knows after watching that one movie with great power comes great responsibility . Joe s viewpoint on working is almost a complete flip in thought, complexity and word count. • 9. Utilitarianism And Bernard Williams Critique Of... Monika Mahmutovic (301180032) PHIL 221 Fall 2015 Instructor: Dr. Jennifer Warriener Wednesday, December 2, 2015 Demotivating Us to be Moral?: Utilitarianism s Moral Overburdening and Bernard Williams Critique Utilitarianism, at first, appears to be a rather uncontroversial ethical theory in that it bases its plausibility on its basic principle of maximizing human happiness. Even so, it proves to be rather problematic in many of its aspects as soon as one discerns how this ethical account ascribes moral value to actions. Particularly, one worrying issue for utilitarianism, which I will be delving into, deals with is its demands on the way in which agents are required to act and lead their lives in order for them to be considered moral and for their lives to be considered good. The challenges surrounding the stringent requirements of utilitarianism and its tendency to overburden moral agents with these requirements is pointed out by Bernard Williams in his 1973 essay A Critique of Utilitarianism. Williams worry boils down to this: if utilitarianism judges the morality of actions solely on the basis of whether they maximize happiness (or not), then it seems that agents who are not at every moment engaged in acts that are increasing the overall goodness in the world are either both directly and indirectly responsible for others suffering that is caused or results of their actions or inaction. • 11. Advertising Strategy Of Coca Cola Coca Cola is one of the biggest companies worldwide, operating in the soft drinks industry. It was founded in 1886 by a pharmacist from Atlanta, called John S. Pemberton. Two years later, John sold portions of the business to various parties, and the biggest portion of shares went to the famous businessmen from Atlanta, Asa G. Candler. Under Candler s leadership, Coca Cola expanded its distribution on a huge scale beyond Atlanta. For the first time in 1894, Joseph Biedenharn introduced the bottling machinery and was the first to make this beverage portable. Since then, the bottling of Coca Cola has changed numerous times and was also has been imitated by different competitors. In 1977, the bottling of Coca Cola was finally trademarked and since then, it has been an inspiration for the artists across the globe. Evolution of the Coca Cola bottle has brought so many different memorable slogans and ideas and many campaigns were launched with a series of ads including such slogans. The basic proposition of Coca Cola is to bring refreshment, joy, value and fun to the stakeholders in order to nurture and protect the brand and the variety of products it offers. This question takes the audience s attention back to her, because, consequently, they know that Ellen will explain why she is there; giving them a reason to listen to her words. • 16. Social Class Differences On The Long Run Essay Income equality has been on a steady rise since 1970 in both the United States and Europe. Over the past several years, many researchers, such as Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez have been conducting and publishing empirical studies which indicate that economic inequality is growing in wealthy countries, like those in Europe and the United States. In fact, according to a graph published in Piketty and Saez s study Inequality in the Long Run, both the United States and Europe s income and wealth inequality generally decreased from 1900 1970, and then started increasing in the time period after that. The results of this study suggest that social class differences may be growing in the long run. This paper will examine this graph from the perspectives of both Adam Smith and Karl Marx. Using Marx and Smith s findings in German Ideology and Wealth of Nations, this paper will discuss Marx and Smith s main theories on capitalism and describe how these theories can be applied to the interpretation of the graphs in the study Inequality in the Long Run. This paper will also discuss the similarities and differences between Smith and Marx s interpretation of the data. Smith s theory of capitalism, described in his book Wealth of Nations, discusses the ideas of the division of labor, self interest, and the real value of products. According to Smith, the division of labor arises from a human s ability to exchange goods. In the Wealth of Nations, Smith discusses how it is a part of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Dog Guard Dog Research Paper The day I got my dog may have been the utmost prosperous day of my young life. We had always had pets, but none of them were ever truly welcomed into our house. Any pet of ours previously was only home on grill nights, a break from their duty as a guard dog, or they were left to live in a built to scale house out in the backyard. We set out for something different when our guard dog Bane died, because we all had our special moments with him. We all needed something to take our minds off of what happened, so we started looking into adopting another dog. The year of 2013 when Bane left landed on the same year that I became an only child within the house. Both my sister Shayla and my brother Dustin had moved out of the house and living their own lives. I no longer had siblings to have fun with. We were left with a perfect opportunity to find a younger dog, and to then raise it to be a guard dog. My dad and I were hoping to find a Rottweiler specifically, as they make great guard dogs, and automatically scare people. We tried once to adopt a puppy in Minnesota, but they would not let us adopt him because we weren t from Minnesota. A month later, my parents stirred me on an early Saturday morning at 7:00 A.M. • 18. How American History Is Constantly Challenged By African... How Americans romanticize their history is constantly challenged by African American artist Kara Walker. Her controversial work has broken huge boundaries of race, gender, power and violence. But Walker s art never had the intention of pleasing viewers or answering easy questions. Winning the John.D and Catherine T. Mac Arthur Foundations genius grant at only twenty seven years old, Walkers art has taunted Americans to recognize the legacy that slavery has left behind. A move to Atlanta, Georgia in Walkers adolescence exposed her to the southern bigotry that inspired her art in later years. However, only when she had completed her Masters of Fine arts in Rhode Island, did she introduce themes of race into her work. On the entry of her first major work in 1994, she says that much of her art work was exploring ...the problematics of making art as a young black woman when constantly barraged and faced with a bunch of stereotypes about what it even means... (MoMA, Kara Walker). Kara Walkers art demonstrates that the racism seen a century ago is still present in American society today. The stereotype used frequently is the negress or black mistress, often over sexualised and portrayed as a sex toy. Walker believes Western culture has created this specific representation of what it means to be black. Her work as a solo artist has been displayed in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and internationally the Tate Liverpool in ... • 21. William Shakespeare s The Man From Stratford On Avon The debate of the true authorship of Shakespeare is one that has been argued for centuries. While there are various theories to suggest that William Shakespeare, the man from Stratford on Avon was not the true author of the plays produced within his lifetime, one theory in particular seems to hold the most concrete evidence. The authorship theory about Edward de Vere, Seventeenth Earl of Oxford seems to have the most historical evidence proving that he is the writer of the plays and sonnets under the pseudonym William Shakespeare. Looking at DeVere s personal life, one can see how his social status and access to higher education would have made it more credible for him to have written such literary masterpieces. Various circumstances of historical fact found about de Vere s life are mirrored in the circumstances and relationships found within the works of Shakespeare. The rich settings in which many of the plays are set include traditional and historical details that could not have been available to anyone who did not travel to these places themselves. Lastly many of the biblical passages and allusions found in the work of Shakespeare are also found in the Bible that de Vere had his personal marks. There are too many historical facts found about DeVere that coincide with the plays of Shakespeare that cannot be brushed aside as coincidence. Roosevelt came into office with a bold plan and acted on it swiftly, providing jobs and relief for those in need. Over the next eight years, the government instituted a series of experimental projects and programs, known collectively as the New Deal, that aimed to restore some measure of dignity and prosperity to many Americans. More than that, Roosevelt s New Deal permanently changed the federal government s relationship to the U.S. populace. The New Deal consisted of a number of government funded programs. For my purpose though, I want to focus on the Bank Act of 1933. The Bill was sponsored by Sen. Carter Glass (D VA) and Rep. Henry Steagall (D AL) and signed into law by Roosevelt in 1933. This policy change set up the banking industry for a successful recovery and a strong future. The Bank Act of 1933 contained many goals. One of the most crucial successes of this law was that commercial banking and investment banking were now completely separate. This interaction had been a problem due to overlap in business practices that weren t morally right. Another system of value that came from this act was the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or FDIC, as many of us know it today. What the FDIC does is insure deposits up to a certain amount. On the other hand, Ahrne Brunsson (2010) pointed out that M O members have strong reasons to mitigate its impact on their own autonomy and identity. However, according to the authors, if all members are successful in making autonomous decisions, it is difficult to achieve coordination or undertake collective action. If each member maintains its identity, then the common identity, the status, and the ease of interaction will be threatened. M O members have not only strong reasons to maintain their identity and autonomy, but also great capacity to do so, since many M O members have more resources and more status than their own M O. According to Ahrne Brunsson, it is important for an M O to attract members with the highest status. If the purpose is to maintain or increase the status of the members, the M O must be able to include and retain the most important members because its legitimacy is dependent on the success to recruit potential affiliates. Some organizations are more attractive than others are , and for the M O to recruit all relevant members, it has to recruit the most talented ones (i.e., those with more resources and greater competence). The Books Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi The books Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, as well as First They Killed My Father, by Loung Ung, share many similarities throughout their exploration into children s experiences during wartime. For instance, the identities and emotions of the main characters, Marji and Loung, are often strongly influenced by the clothing that they are forced to wear. In Marji s case, it s the hijab Islamic veil which all women are forced to wear after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. In Loung s, it s the black pajamas that she and her family are forced to wear while they are prisoners in Ro Leap, Cambodia. Marji is first introduced to the veil in a way that would be confusing to many children her age. From a child s perspective, the requirement for all women to suddenly have to wear this additional piece of black clothing came very suddenly and unexpectedly. The veil is used throughout the story to cover women s bodies, as well as eventually to cover their own sense of self. The veil in Persepolis becomes a symbol to describe the Iranian oppression of women when they are in the presence of adult men outside of their family. Not all women are against the idea of the veil, but many are against the concept of being forced to wear it by law. In no time, the way people dressed became an ideological sign.
