Lighting In Spiderman
Lighting can be strategically placed by the director of a film or a television show to convey different
sorts of emotions and create certain reactions from the audience members. In this photo I ve included
from Spiderman, one can tell how the scene is supposed to make an audience member react just from
the lighting alone. There s background lighting just slightly illuminating the what s behind Spiderman
while the focus of the camera remains on him, giving him the center of attention. The key lighting is
coming from the right straight onto Spiderman s face, while there is not much fill lighting illuminating
the rest of the scene. This results in a scene where the character is half lit, leaving the scene looking
somewhat dark and dramatic. In

Essay Dimensional Fund Advisors Case
Dimensional Fund Advisors Case 1. Describe the investment strategy employed by DFA. Does DFA
consider itself an active or passive manager? What aspects of its strategy are active? What aspects are
passive?
DFA s investment strategy was centered on academic research, specifically on the findings of Banz
size effect and Fama and French s book to market effect. In Banz research, he found that small stocks
consistently outperformed large stocks over the entire history of the stock market from 1926 through
the late 1970s. See Exhibit 1 for overview of growth between large and small cap stocks.
In the Fama amp; French paper, they found that: 1) stocks with high beta did not have consistently
higher returns than low beta stocks; 2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DFA s founders believed in two principals (outside of efficient markets): the value of sound academic
research, and the ability of skilled traders to contribute to a fund s profits even when the investment
was inherently passive. By working closely with the academic world, DFA is able to exploit
opportunities generated from academic research before others are able to; this creates opportunities for
short and long term excess return. Also, working in stocks that other mutual funds do not participate
(micro, small cap) allows DFA to exploit opportunities in otherwise illiquid stocks. By having a large
presence in this market, the company is able to take advantage of trading opportunities with
counterparts (liquidity discounts from block purchases).
5. What level of market efficiency does DFA accept? Why this level and not any other?
DFA accepts the semi strong form efficiency of the market. DFA feels that on average the market price
correctly incorporates all public information. Its concern is merely that there is no negative private
information known to the seller but not to the market. If DFA did not have concern of negative
information known by the seller and not the market, the strong form of efficiency would be
appropriate (this version of the efficient market hypothesis is quite extreme).
The semi strong form of efficiency

The Longest-Personal Narrative
With my heart pounding I stepped forward. As the other competitors are doing everything to stay
loose and ready, I simply could not stop shaking. To my left and right stood two seniors, the fastest
half mile runner in the state and my biggest rival of that year. I felt very out of place, only a
sophomore that season. In Montana, the 800m race at the state meet had been dominated by seniors
for decades. The echoing silence filled the arena after the starter yelled, set!. If I were to recall the
longest is second in my life, undoubtedly it would be that moment. Many times I have been asked to
provide one word that describes myself. My peers would describe me as smart, athletic, and
personable. However, I do not believe that any of those words

The Distinctive Features of Thatcherism and Reaganomics
Introduction
The policies of Thatcherism and Reaganomics significantly influenced the economies of the countries
where they were applied. Some of their impacts are observed to be existing up to date although in
more reformed and improved system. This research paper examines the features and achievements of
the two policies and the impact they had on the citizens of these countries. It seeks to establish what
negative impacts these policies brought with them in their bid to facilitate economical improvements
in the countries where they were applied. It also tries to find out whether the ideologies ... Show more

First, many have argued that Thatcherism contributed significantly into economic recovery of Britain
after the war. This is mainly visible in its quest to control the rate of inflation which was a success.
However, this success has been criticized for the huge level of unemployment it brought with it. The
policy also managed to instill competition in the economy which facilitated growth of the economy.
This was necessary to salvage the image which was heavily dented on the international scene. With
these efforts, the conservative party had managed to win back the trust of its citizens. Thatcherism also
brought the theory of monetarism. Through this theory, they discovered that inflation was caused by
injecting excess money into the economy by printing money and this situation could be controlled by
using the instruments of monetary policy to mop up the excess money supply. However, some
economists have argued that the negative impacts of this policy overshadowed its positive
contributions hence the system is considered a failure (Harvey 2010,

Character Analysis Of Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey is a comedian and actor that has been in the business since about the age of fifteen.
Although he suffers from bipolar disorder he still manages to be very successful in his career. I have
choose to analyze Jim Carrey in the movie where he plays a character that has psychological problems
and the obsession of a number. The movie 23. Through the paper I will refer to him as Walter sparrow
as this is the charter that he is playing in the movie. However in this movie Walter is two characters.
He as well goes by Fingerling. I use both characters and explain how they both can relate to Freud s
ideas. I will do one character at a time. I will be using multiply of frueds theories to express some of
the behaviors and characteristics to his personality. Freud believes that we a driven by our instincts,
aggression and sexual desires
In the beginning of the movie Walter is an ordinary man that seems to live a really ordinary good life.
When it first starts off Walter is using his preconscious mind and explaining how he became a dog
catcher. According to Freud the preconscious is what we can easily access at any given time. He goes
in to detail off what lead him to his job. Later on he is confronted with a dog on the loose who gets
away and who happen to bite him. This bothers him for days and it is constantly on his mind. He is
now using his conscious mind which is allowing him to think about the dog. After a long day at work
he still thinking of the evil dog. However

Essay on Son of the Morning Star
Son of the Morning Star Analysis
Evan S. Connell has a unique writing style. While most stories are told from beginning to end, Son of
the Morning Star: Custer and The Little Bighorn (North Point Press, 1984) begins with the aftermath
of The Battle of the Little Bighorn. It is then followed by numerous events which led up to this battle.
Connell chose this non linear writing style in order to distribute the details he finds most fascinating
and interesting to share with his audience. Using the conclusion of the battle as the introduction of the
narrative creates a suspenseful tone.
In the beginning of the story, the setting is the battle field which The Battle of the Little Bighorn had
taken place a few days earlier. Lieutenant James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

He also includes a background on Chief Gall as well, providing facts about his birthplace and family.
For example, he writes, He was not a hereditary chief. The family seems to have been undistinguished,
and because his father died at an early age the boy was regarded more with sympathy than respect. So
it appears that not through any legacy did he become a chieftain... (pg. 376)
Throughout the story, the audience develops an idea of the motives of the Native Americans during the
battle. The reader becomes aware of what Sitting Bull was thinking:
If Sitting Bull did indeed call off the attack it was not because of any affection for whites, who, he
hated with abiding and impenetrable rancor, but because he understood how vindictive they could be.
If all the soldiers were slaughtered the whites would insist upon another battle... (pg. 76)
The audience was not only given an idea of what they were thinking before the battle. The author also
makes a point to include a song that the Indians wrote after they had defeated General Custer and his
men, At that time the Indians did not realized they had fought Custer...when they found out, they sang
about him. David Humphreys Miller transcribed one such kill song... (pg. 54)
With the erudition given in the story, the reader concludes that the Native American leaders were fully
developed human beings.

Wills Law Essay
Wills Problem: The Estate of Jackie Kennedy Onassis
1. The overall testamentary plan seems to be that Jackie Kennedy Onassis (testator) estate was
allocated proportionately to those people she deemed to be the closest to her. Thus, the further away
from Jackie via bloodline, the less the person inherited and the less personal the gifts seemed to be.
The majority of her real and personal property was left to her children, while friends and other
relatives received legacy gifts. Some of the gifts to her friends were very specific (as in question 3), so
it is likely that there was some sort of sentimental value between Jackie, the devisee, and the property
in question. Whole blooded relatives received a larger portion than her ... Show more content on

The modern Stage 3 rule, UPC § 2 603, saves devisees to three basic groups: grandparents,
descendants of grandparents, and stepchildren. This UPC Stage 3 rule does not apply to non relatives
whatsoever. Jackie Kennedy Onassis left gifts to Mellon, Tempelsman, and Forger, but she listed them
in her will as friends . Because they predeceased the testator and no alternative beneficiaries were
stated for their gifts, one must look to see if there is an applicable Stage 2 anti lapse statute. Under
both Stage 2 and Stage 3 majority rules, anti lapse statutes do not protect friends ; therefore the gifts
would fail. It is possible that First D could be construed as naming Jackie s children as alternate
beneficiaries if First A, B, C failed, so the testator s surviving children would take these gifts.
3. Jackie Kennedy Onassis left Maurice Tempelsman in FIRST B, a Greek alabaster head of a woman.
If at the time of her death she no longer owned this Greek alabaster head, would Mr. Tempelsman
receive a Roman alabaster head of a woman that was purchased by the testator after the making of the
will? Under the Stage 2(a) rule, where a testamentary gift of specific real or personal property no
longer exists as part of the Testator s estate at the moment of his death because of its prior

My Mother has had a Positive Influence on My Life Essays
There have been a vast number of lives that have touched mine. Many different people have shared a
piece of their soul in my formation. However, it is my mother who is the most important and most
influential person in my life. My mother raised me by herself since the day I was born. My father was
abusive and she left to make a better life for the both of us. She has worked as many as four jobs at
one time. My mother wants to make sure my brothers and I have a better life than she did. It hasn t

raising us and working two jobs. She graduated from ASU with a 4.0 GPA and was honored and on
the news because of all she s done and went through in her lifetime. I have a difficult enough time
doing my homework and going to basketball training. My mother went to school full time, had two
jobs, cooked for us, cleaned, paid bills, went to our games and still managed to get a 4.0. She always
tells us if I can do it you can. Nothing in life comes easy you have to work for it, then you will be a
success, if it is just given to you then you will never recognize the value of it. My mother has taught
me to be courageous and always stand up for what I believe in. Every day, when I think about all that
she went through while raising us, I really am astonished. She has basically given up her life for us
making sure that we be successful in everyway. I can remember her letting me try out for club
basketball when I was in sixth grade, the money didn t even daunt her she always found away.

How Brands Gain Successful Exposure On The Market, And The...
5.1 KNOW THE RULES
The main aim of this study was to investigate the ways brands gain successful exposure in the market,
and the way they build relationships with consumers. Upon researching, it was found that there are
certain brands that do not necessarily follow the current advised procedures for this practice. One of
these brands is Apple Inc., and being one of the most cherished brands of all times, it was decided that
an investigation on its consumers behaviour would possibly shed light over the research question: Are
there exceptions to the current rules in the practice of brand communications and exposure? . To be
able to raise the hypothesis of the exception, the current procedures for successful brand exposure and
communications, were examined and analysed, and then compared to the survey s results on Apple s
consumers opinions.
5.2 SUMMARY OF THE STUDY
The review of literature has provided important information on how the 21st century market is shaped
and influenced by the digital technologies. It was observed that the direct effect derived from the
cultural transformation of the digital ages, has created new ways of receiving information and new
forms of communication amongst people. Consequently, it has also altered relationships between
brands and consumers.
Most experts are suggesting that brands should adjust according to the new rules of the market, which
imply that online existence is essential for achieving successful brand communications and

The Effect Of Physical Activity On The Heart Disease And...
Over exercising and the effects on the heart disease and links to cognitive ability
The capacity to mentally process, reason, perceive, plan, understand and learn is called cognition. It is
important as it help us understand the world and people around us. It is the ability to interpret and
comprehend sensory information by transforming, storing and recovering the said data ( (Neisser,
1976). Many studies have been conducted to explore the different factors that could decrease or
increase cognition. Some of the factors include sleep, stress, socioeconomic status (SES), and physical
activity.
Regular exercise is believed to have a huge impact in increasing cognitive ability in individuals. The
link between of chronic physical activity and oxygenated haemoglobin in the anterior frontal gyrus of
52 healthy young women was studied (Cameron et al., 2015). The participants were split into groups
depending on the amount of physical activity they do regularly. This ranged from 0 being inactive to 3
which is the participant has met the recommended physical activity level, set by the World Health
Organisation (WHO), for more than 6 months. This was the participants CPAL or chronic physical
activity level. The participants were attached to an infrared spectroscopy that recorded the relative
concentration of haemoglobin in their blood every second. They then underwent a reaction time test
which tested their inhibiting and switching abilities. The results of the study showed that the

Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle And Thermodynamics
Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle and Thermodynamics
I m writing this research paper for my Thermodynamics class with Professor Roh. I have a big interest
in turbine gas engines and how they operate. My future goal within mechanical engineering is to learn
how to maintain and design turbine gas engines.
How do Turbine Gas Engines operate?
I read this article at Wartsila website which enlightened me that Gas turbines are comprised of three
primary sections mounted on the same shaft: the compressor, the combustor and the turbine. The
compressor can be either axial flow or centrifugal flow. Axial flow compressors are more common in
power generation because they have higher flow rates and efficiencies. The acceleration of the air
through the rotating blades and diffusion by the stators increases the pressure and reduces the volume
of the air. Although no heat is added, the compression of the air also causes the temperature to
increase. The compressed air is mixed with fuel which ignites under constant pressure conditions and
the hot combustion products (gases) are directed through the turbine where it expands rapidly and
imparts rotation to the shaft. The turbine is also comprised of stages, each with a row of stationary
blades (or nozzles) to direct the expanding gases followed by a row of moving blades. The rotation of
the shaft drives the compressor to draw in and compress more air to sustain continuous combustion.
The remaining shaft power is used to drive a generator

The 20th Century was a period of great changes in the world due to several events that happened
during this period of time. Artist during this century created paintings which verge on the traditional

experiments with movement in art began between 1913 and 1920, led by artists of the Dadaist and
Constructivist traditions. As an example of these artistic movements are surrealism, expressionism,

He is known for his work as a sculptor and experimental artist in the kinetic field. The basis of
Tinguely s formal means of expression was movement. Starting from actual pictorial images that were
set in motion, he explored movement in every possible form (Reinhard). Its purpose is to give the
viewer a show of displacement, or at least the illusion of it. Moreover, Mobile works of Jean Tinguely
were created to destroy or to self destruct, all in an effort to mock the overproduction of goods
meaningless, manufactured by advanced industrial society. After incurring abstract painting, the Swiss
artist experimented with kinesthetic movement as a form of expression. His first works, exhibited in
Paris, moved by electric motors. Monumental pieces that help implement an ironic universe of useless
machines, it seemed, were produced. According to the Editors of Encyclopedia Britannia, Tinguely
began to construct his first truly sophisticated kinetic sculptures, which he termed métaméchaniques ,

constituent parts of which moved or spun at varying speeds. Artists who were inspired by Dada, such

Symptoms And Treatment Of An Idiopathic Etiology
As previously reported, Ms. Noid referred herself for a voice evaluation because of a chronic,
persistent dysphonia characterized by severe hoarseness and breathiness. She had a recent ENT report
indicating a left adductor vocal cord paralysis which is paralyzed in the intermediate position.
Furthermore, she has reported that her symptoms have persisted for 18 months, eliminating the
possibility of an idiopathic etiology. After completing a voice evaluation, recommendations for
medical clearance would include evaluations performed by a laryngologist, neurologist, and/or
evaluations performed by professionals who would be part of the client s medical team. The
recommendation for treatment options would be begin by educating the client, and providing her with
behavioral and medical treatment options. Furthermore, Ms. Noid would be informed with the benefits
and potential side effects of the various treatments. Since Ms. Noid, presents with a left adductor vocal
fold paralysis in the intermediate position (situated midway between abduction and paramedian
position), behavioral interventions could be applied before considering surgical treatments. With vocal
fold paralysis, Ms. Noid may have developed compensatory mechanisms, which can be eliminated

Internal And External Factors Of A Company
Internal and external factors Dyne and Pierce (2008) explained that there are many factors which are
inducing a change process in a company, as employees at all levels of organisational hierarchy are the
agents of change though they are also barriers to it. Change happens when the forces of external
environment are forcing to change existing circumstances. So companies wanting to change when
there is fall in market share, new product has been launched, which is caught in the environmental
scan. Managers therefore will try to stay of competition, may lead to analysing own strengths,
weakness, opportunities and threats. This leads to understanding what capabilities and competencies
are existing to make a counter offer in the marketplace. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These elements like communication pattern, delegation of tasks, leadership style are barriers when

(2011) opined that at individual employee level, there can barriers like no awareness and knowledge
about new QMS, or even they may not have motivation to unlearn the old and learn the new.
Acceptance and adoption of a new work method may find no employees as it conflicts with their
existing work standards. This is closely linked to their individual cultural beliefs, organisational work
culture which also affect individual abilities, which when falls short, needs new skill sets to be learnt.
Many employees are unable to cope with the steep learning curve, as each of them have individual
differences in learning new skills, show different levels of abilities in applying new work methods

fresh seafood, which is 54% of all seafood retail sales. The king crab of Phillips belongs to fresh

and fresh, which is a feature of the king crab product. The IBSS is a nation wide trade show which
could attract a lot of exhibitors and attendance. Making use of this platform could help Phillips to
build its reputation and promote its products at the same time. Threat: Just because the IBSS could
attract a large amount of exhibitors, the competition during the trade show is fierce. Though there are

The Importance Of Nursing Leadership
Nursing guidance is a complex but essential part of the nursing workforce. Guidance can come in the
form of management and in the form of leadership. The two terms are often used interchangeably, but
do not always mean the same thing. The nurse manager is often someone who has authority from the
facility to be in management. The nursing leader may not have authority over other nurses, but may be
a strong guide in the workplace for other nurses and nursing staff. Nursing as a profession is ever
changing and increasingly challenging. Nurse managers are tasked with an enormous variety of
functions in their respective workplaces, budgeting, scheduling, hiring, disciplinary actions,
implementing facility policies and procedures, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While patient care is at the center of what nurse leaders do as well, the help and support they give their
fellow nurses is very important. Nurse leaders are the background to the nursing care. Effective nurse
leaders can promote a positive workforce and a healthy work place for other nurses. Workplace
dynamics is an essential part of how each nurse functions. Nurses, being mentally and physically
stressed, need to have support and guidance from a nurse leader to feel confident about performance.
The impact of nursing leaders can be a positive and guiding force for the younger or more
inexperienced nurse. Having strong relationships with solid leaders can instill values in the beginning
stages of a newer nurses career. Gaining insight and core concepts from a more experienced leader can
make a world of difference in the way a new nurse performs, provides patient care, and sets future
goals for themselves. A newer nurse with a positive role model and nurse leader can model themselves
to become a leader for future nurses. Future nurses and the future of the nursing practice can
positively benefit from having a revolving new nurse nurse leader cycle. With a profession as dynamic
as nursing, the involvement of positive leaders and role models is essential for the practice to grow
and inspire a nursing force that not only adapts and changes with the profession, but leads and strives
for promoting the improvement

A Comprehensive Analysis Of Davidson s Article,...
In Mark Davidson s article, Displacement, Space and Dwelling: Placing Gentrification Debate , he
cites several contemporary case studies where certain deteriorated areas have been targeted for
redevelopment and subsequent evictions have taken place. Using several philosophical authors, such
as Heidegger and Lefebvre, Davidson s focuses on the effect spatial metaphors have on displacement,
and how these concepts tie into the conceptualization of space. In this paper I will compile a thorough
summary of the article and formulate a comprehensive analysis of Davidson s arguments as well as his
sources. Davidson begins his article with arguably one of the most notable and recent subjects of
gentrification, 1520 Sedgwick, the birthplace of Hip Hop. This dilapidated apartment building s
owners announced they planned to leave New York State s Mitchell Lama programe (pg. 2), which
would result in the current residents evictions. Essentially the program offered tax incentives to
building owners who limit equity to maintain low cost units. However, in lieu of tax incentives many
building owners have elected to leave the program in order to make more profit via higher costing
units, which current residents cannot afford. In the case of 1520 Sedgwick current and former
residents, such as the credited father of Hip Hop Kool Herc, have veiled their mission to prevent the
gentrification process from consuming their building by petitioning for a historic listing as well as
offering to

The Rite of Spring
Dance Critique: The Rite of Spring
The Rite of Spring was choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky, a Russian dancer and choreographer. He
joined The Imperial School of Ballet in 1900 and was later the lead dancer of the Ballet Russes. He
eventually choreographed many works, one of them being Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring)
in 1913. He exceeded the limits of traditional ballet and the Rite was an example of this. In 1919 he

I think Nijinsky decided to use the circle dancing as his spatial configuration because the circles
allowed for more use of the stage and it symbolizes the rituals of natives are all connected during their
celebrations and sacrifices. By having the males and females separated Nijinsky made a strong
statement that I believe is that the only thing that brings the sexes together is their important ritual of
sacrifice. For most of the performance, the dancers were in unison. This helps the audience capture
everything that is occurring. It allows the crowd to focus their attention on the important aspect of the
performance instead of trying to go back and forth from one side of the stage to another. The
spectators can also appreciate the movement of the dancers more if they are in unison. It also helped
Nijinsky show what he felt was important in the performance if everyone was doing the same thing.
There were some instances that the dancers were so n sync that they looked like robots. The moves
that they made seemed simples, for example, their stomping didn t seem complicated but to do it at the
same time looked very complex and harder. Najinsky showed in The Rite of Spring that these
performances could be about normal people and their traditions instead of fantasy. The dancers were
hunched over and close to the ground and loose with their bodies which is more

Bipolar Disorder In Children
Bipolar disorder is a manic depressive lifelong illness in the brain that causes shifts in mood, energy,
activity, and the ability to carry out normal tasks, but efficient treatment helps people to manage these
complications and normalize their daily lives. This illness is a very serious mental disease affecting
about 2.6 percent of adults in the United States that has the power to cause risky behavior and even
suicidal tendencies if not treated (www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/bipolar disorder/index.shtml). It is
more common in older teens and young adults, but it affects children as young as six years old. It

White Man s Influence On Our Land
This is the world in which we live: a world in which the white man robs us of tradition and deprives us
of the lands that have sheltered our generation, our fathers generations, and our ancestors generations.
What harm have we done to deserve this? We merely desire to reside on our lands, vast expanses of
beautifully rugged terrain, in peace. And why must this simple right ever come into question? Yet
question it they do. Flouncing on our land, a group of white men have declared to us that everything
we know is about to change. Without permission or concern for us, they began a process of
expropriating our land from us. They announced to us, these people who invaded our land, that our
lands belong to them; henceforth we are to be moved to new land, inadequate land, land they call
reservations. Do they not realize that these lands that we live upon hold bonds, sacred and treasured,

The Concept of Peace
For Muslims peace is not a single dimensional or specific idea. Peace is to be at rest with one s own
wants and desires and to have peace with the world around them. There is a mutual relationship
between this inner peace and the peace with the wider world. Muslim s believe that you cannot be at
peace with yourself until you are also at peace with others. It will also not be possible to live at peace
with others until there is a sense of peace with yourself.
In Islam the concept of peace is two fold. Individuals must firstly be at peace with Allah and secondly,
be at peace with themselves and the rest of the world. In Islam the concept of peace is closely
connected to the idea of submission. Islam has particularly effective methods for ... Show more

Obedience to the Five Pillars helps to ensure that the individual adherent finds inner peace.
The Islamic concepts of Taqwa, Qadr and Sabr hold more immediate benefits. For Muslims everyday
is a struggle, or jihad, to pursue submission and to see that the Five Pillars are correctly observed. This
on going struggle helps ensure Muhammad s command to be conscious of Allah in your heart (Taqwa)
is always fulfilled. The greater the level of Taqwa in an adherent s heart, the closer they are to God
and peace. The more Taqwa an adherent has the easier it will be for them to submit to the notion of
Qadr, the concept of God s measurement of how we respond to the changes of life. Adherents are
expected to trust Allah with peace and acceptance no matter what fate that might occur to them. Sabr
is the patience and determination an individual demonstrates in the face of life s challenges. The Qur
an states no disaster can come on the Earth, or on yourselves, that isn t already recorded by us in a
book, and that is indeed easy for Allah. Remember that so you don t despair over what you have lost
or brag, about what you have gained... . By submitting to Allah, following the Five Pillars and the
concepts of Taqwa, Qadr and Sabr, a Muslim adherent is able to move closer to attaining individual

Inventions In Cold Sassy Tree, By Olive Ann Burns
There are many inventions that are introduced to the public every year. With each invention, our
society and culture gets remodeled. In Cold Sassy Tree, by Olive Ann Burns, there were many new
inventions that changed the town, the people, and their social status. The first invention that had an
impact on Cold Sassy and the plot was the locomotive, which almost killed Will Tweedy, the main
character. The second invention that had an impact on Cold Sassy and the plot was the automobile,
which opened up auto dealerships and created new fashion designs. The third invention that had an

Emile Berliner invented the gramophone. However, the biggest innovation came in 1894 from the
mind of United States inventor Emile Berliner. He devised a way for creation of flat shaped discs, and
he renamed his graphophone design that utilized this disc as gramophone. (Sound Recording History).
In Cold Sassy Tree, the record player had a huge impact on Grandpa Blakeslee s relationship with
Miss Love. One day Grandpa Blakeslee bought Miss Love a record player, or graphophone. He

Pros And Cons Of New Media
Old media like cassette tapes are becoming second tier goods since the public would like to listen to
music through social media feed or visit their favorite music site with a cup of coffee in hand. The
new media technology makes people s lives more convenient in favor of the old ways of consuming
the music types such as social platforms and specific applications. I spend most of my time listening
to music on my smartphone applications whereas my dad spends his time with his old cassette tapes.
In this essay, I will identify the notion of overcoming limits in both physical and social aspects that
new media give us.
Generally, Cassette tapes are a magnetic tool for recording and playback. Over the last decade,
cassette tapes still offer do it yourself musicians, who record their original music in tapes and mail to
companies. My dad loves the cassette tapes because he is a rock lover who firmly believes that the
cassette tapes have magic behind it. A lot of the music applications lack a physical, tactile sensation
and collection. However, he sees my music application, which includes all the songs in the 1980s with
lyrics and easy to find such as Spotify and Apple Music. For example, one of my dad s bookshelf is
full of the cassette tapes. It is hard to find a specific song or album in short time and to get tangled up
with tape afterward. I just type the name of the song in the search engine, usually is a blank box at the

Who Killed Benny Paret
Millions of people worldwide take part as spectators to the sport of prize fighting: better known as
boxing. In a 1962 essay entitled Who Killed Benny Paret? the author, Norman Cousins, writes about
the dangers that come with the sport of boxing. He especially talks about a match that resulted in the
death of a boxer named Benny Paret. Cousins argues that boxing is just a show of violence and that
boxers put themselves in the ring just for the simple purpose of entertaining a crowd. Even though
investigations reflect the role of the referee, Paret s manager, and the doctor s examinations as the
main cause of Paret s death, Cousins blames Paret s death on the people that attends boxing matches to

The referee could it stop the fight, the manager should it not rushed Paret to fight if he was not ready
and the doctors should it examined him further. Boxers sometimes face the challenge of defeating
their opponent for many reasons. Those reasons could be to prove they can win, to earn money and to
not disappoint or lead down fans and beaters. Many boxers choose boxing because they are good at it
and it s a way of earning money, just like Benny Paret. Boxing is a dangerous sport since every boxer
become badly hurt and ill at the end of every match. Most boxers suffer from brain damages as a result
of many hits in the head. Cousins explains that Benny Paret was killed because of a massive
hemorrhage in the brain, caused by an impact directed against the head (par. 7) Cousins also wrote Not
every blow to the head will kill a man but there is always the risk of concussion and damage to the
brain (par. 7). Fighters that survive repeated concussions still go and fight, but the problem here is that
the damage in the brain may be permanent. Sometimes boxers should consider their health problems
before fighting again. The viewers are the main encouragement for boxers to keep fighting or to fight
harder. They don t come out to see a tee party, said Mike Jacobs evenly. They come out to see the
knockout. They come out to see a man hurt. If they think anything else, they re kidding themselves

9 Reasons Why You Should Incorporate Push Ups Into Your Daily Routine
Daily exercise is very important, but that doesn t mean you have to head to the gym or invest in
expensive equipment to do so. There is one form of exercise that you can do quickly, without any
special gear, and at any fitness level. The exercise is of course push ups, one of the oldest forms of
working out throughout history. However, thanks to all the high tech equipment available to us in the
modern age, the humble push up is often overlooked because it is so simple to perform. Don t be
fooled though, incorporating push ups into your daily fitness routine is extremely beneficial to your
health. Here are just a couple of reasons why this form of exercise is so beneficial.
1. Increased Endurance As Well As Upper Body Strength
Push ups are one of the most effectively ways to increase upper body strength without having to resort
to weight lifting. The major muscles used during a push up are the ones on the back of your arms,
front of your shoulders as well as your chest. Not only will push ups build and tone these muscles,
increasing your upper body strength, but you ll also be improving your endurance as well. ... Show

to stabilize movement, which strengthens it and decreases the chances of back injuries. Anyone who
has suffered the debilitating effects of even a minor lower back injury will know important it is to

The Book of Ruth
History is something that every human being must refer to and it cannot be helped. It does not matter
if you work in fashion design, an artist in an art studio, or working for an automobile company such as
Ford; we all reference what the past has taught us. It is foolish to press forward and not look back to
discover how others achieved great heights, or to prevent great tragedy and disaster. No one wants to
see another Nazi Germany, but we all want to see an Independance day. The bible is just as diverse
and wide in the subjects of life and faith. We can look back into its pages and see time unfolding
before our very eyes. Most likely, anyone who has read Matthew has seen the genealogy of Jesus and
seen the name of this woman; Ruth. Today, we are going to discuss the book of Ruth and how it
foreshadows Jesus Christ in the gospels. When talking about who wrote this book and when, we must
keep in mind that the bible was put together in chronological order as events had taken place. The
book seems to take place during the time of Judges (Flemming, 308). Scholars and researchers have
debated who wrote the book and when. Seeing that in Ruth 4:18 22 references King David in
genealogy, the prophet Samuel has been thought to have written the book between the dates of 1011
and 931 B.C. (Book) This has been difficult to prove because if Samuel did write the book, then

Desertification As A Global Problem
Desertification is defined by the UN as the persistent degradation of dryland ecosystems by human
activities, including unsustainable farming, mining, overgrazing and clear cutting of land and by
climate change ( Desertification ). Desertification can also be defined as a process that reduces
biological productivity and the intensification of desert conditions (Hellden 372). Although less
publicized, desertification is an issue that requires international cooperation as the victims of drought,
famine and the numerous environmental problems of dry lands are over 250 million, and more than
one billion people in over 100 countries are at risk ( Desertification as a global problem 1).
Additionally, desertification tends to affect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ineffectiveness, Goal 15 of the UN s SDGs has a target to combat desertification, restore degraded

land degradation neutral world by 2030.
Part 2: Desertification Challenges
Desertification is an environmental problem difficult to address due to its wide definition and
extensive forms of manifestation. According to Warren, the inadequacies of the definitions of
desertification, even among the scientific community, has led to a credibility gap and a dismissal of
the issue relative to other environmental problems (12). Secondly, there are logistical issues, as
sustainably managing dry lands would involve a bottom up approach and the inclusion of local
populates affected by desertification in the decision making process (13). Implementation of the
convention was also complicated by the use of National Action Programmes (NAPs), which required
identification of causes and solutions to desertification in each country, large research undertakings for
which countries have unequal amount of resources to

Listening To Sounds Analysis
Upon finishing listening to what was my first podcast ever, it did not necessarily change my thoughts
about noise of modern life. This is because I am and have always been an appreciator of the simple
things in life. For example, I am the type of person who will sit in an airport and just think about the
fact that in this one place where there are a multiple number of people, each of them has their own
life. Each of these lives are being carried out all at the same time, and each of those lives are filled

The best thing about the noise in our society is that although there is a negative effect in situations of
the ability to listen to personal music, there is also a positive side which encompasses the same thing.
The reason that most of us listen to our own music is not only possibly a sub conscious effort to
seclude ourselves from other around us, but also because we want to please ourselves by listening to
sounds or music we like. Therefore, one example of how noise in our society promotes
communication would be when a group of strangers are somewhere and here the new Taylor Swift
song that they all love, they catch themselves singing and dancing to it, simultaneously noticing the
others doing the same which breaks that barrier of being strangers by making them realize they have
something in common. This later leads to them speaking to each other and possibly beginning a
relationship. Similarly, from a more fundamental perspective sounds as simple as someone chopping
wood outside, singing in the shower in the morning, or the sound of a jump rope hitting the pavement
as little kids play, all play in the role of promoting communication; all you have to do is listen for

used to create this work of art have more benefits than drawbacks. Canvases and oil paints are easier

The deductible temporary differences between the carrying value and the tax bases of

Through using the film s goals and other scientific theories, Bears shows the possible outcome of
climate change in Alaska, the impact it has on local wildlife, and how both climate change and
wildlife influence the fate of the other. Michael Carey s research emphasizes the American idea that
people once thought of Alaska as an unchanging, eternal face, but now see it at the center of national
and international climate change discussion. Monika P. Calef in her study on distribution in Alaska
researched Alaska s climate change and what Bears portrayed from a vegetation perspective. In the
study it is later pointed out that with the decrease of tundra areas resulting from climate change,
forested areas were growing due to the warmer temperatures, causing other habitats to change and
produce different resources. Lowell H. Suring, connecting his ideas of human impact on
environmental change to other research, also pointed out that other climate and environmental factors
influence the availability of important foods for bears and other wildlife. The research that the articles
converse about relate to how Bears changes what Alaska means to us in regards to being an
unchangeable wilderness to a wilderness that is changing due to climate change. This idea of a
wilderness changing is also supported in Philip D. Martin s report of wildlife response to
environmental change. He claims that understanding the response of wildlife to climate change
requires, improved understanding of physical and ecological processes, as well as enhanced
knowledge of natural history and population. Regardless of whether it is because of warming
temperatures, shrinking resources, or human development each of these theorists believe that there is a

obvious that no sure answer can be found due to the fact that whoever wrote this poem is dead and
that the answer will always be in speculation even if it is correct. Hopefully, at the end of this quest I
will be slightly more enlightened as to who the true speaker may really be.

I have the right to say what miseries I have endured since I grew up, new or old never greater than
now. Even though this poem is relatively short, the vivid expression of grief is somewhat awe
inspiring.
The first interpretation of who the speaker is in The Wife s Lament is very shaky and not well
accepted among scholars and even the average reader. This interpretation is that the speaker may be a
male and not a female as we all believe. It was very common in Anglo Saxon times for the lord of a
group of people to be more to them than a ruler. Very often he would become a close friend to his
people and they loved him like family. The relationship between lord and man was more than just a
business arrangement and although they were working for the lord, he was respected much like a
father figure would be. The problem with this interpretation is that the grammatical gender is
feminine. This is the reason why everyone assumes that the speaker is a female. Supporters of this
reading of The Wife s Lament believe that somewhere along the line of translating the poem the
translator made a mistake and changed the gender of the speaker. As I have already said, this
interpretation is very rough around the edges and rather hard to believe. I believe that if the speaker
were male then there would be no real reason for his being exiled in this fashion. It was not a custom
for communities to allow foreigners in thus falsifying

  • 2. Lighting In Spiderman Lighting can be strategically placed by the director of a film or a television show to convey different sorts of emotions and create certain reactions from the audience members. In this photo I ve included from Spiderman, one can tell how the scene is supposed to make an audience member react just from the lighting alone. There s background lighting just slightly illuminating the what s behind Spiderman while the focus of the camera remains on him, giving him the center of attention. The key lighting is coming from the right straight onto Spiderman s face, while there is not much fill lighting illuminating the rest of the scene. This results in a scene where the character is half lit, leaving the scene looking somewhat dark and dramatic. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Essay Dimensional Fund Advisors Case Dimensional Fund Advisors Case 1. Describe the investment strategy employed by DFA. Does DFA consider itself an active or passive manager? What aspects of its strategy are active? What aspects are passive? DFA s investment strategy was centered on academic research, specifically on the findings of Banz size effect and Fama and French s book to market effect. In Banz research, he found that small stocks consistently outperformed large stocks over the entire history of the stock market from 1926 through the late 1970s. See Exhibit 1 for overview of growth between large and small cap stocks. In the Fama amp; French paper, they found that: 1) stocks with high beta did not have consistently higher returns than low beta stocks; 2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DFA s founders believed in two principals (outside of efficient markets): the value of sound academic research, and the ability of skilled traders to contribute to a fund s profits even when the investment was inherently passive. By working closely with the academic world, DFA is able to exploit opportunities generated from academic research before others are able to; this creates opportunities for short and long term excess return. Also, working in stocks that other mutual funds do not participate (micro, small cap) allows DFA to exploit opportunities in otherwise illiquid stocks. By having a large presence in this market, the company is able to take advantage of trading opportunities with counterparts (liquidity discounts from block purchases). 5. What level of market efficiency does DFA accept? Why this level and not any other? DFA accepts the semi strong form efficiency of the market. DFA feels that on average the market price correctly incorporates all public information. Its concern is merely that there is no negative private information known to the seller but not to the market. If DFA did not have concern of negative information known by the seller and not the market, the strong form of efficiency would be appropriate (this version of the efficient market hypothesis is quite extreme). The semi strong form of efficiency ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To my left and right stood two seniors, the fastest half mile runner in the state and my biggest rival of that year. I felt very out of place, only a sophomore that season. In Montana, the 800m race at the state meet had been dominated by seniors for decades. The echoing silence filled the arena after the starter yelled, set!. If I were to recall the longest is second in my life, undoubtedly it would be that moment. Many times I have been asked to provide one word that describes myself. This is mainly visible in its quest to control the rate of inflation which was a success. However, this success has been criticized for the huge level of unemployment it brought with it. The policy also managed to instill competition in the economy which facilitated growth of the economy. This was necessary to salvage the image which was heavily dented on the international scene. With these efforts, the conservative party had managed to win back the trust of its citizens. Thatcherism also brought the theory of monetarism. Through this theory, they discovered that inflation was caused by injecting excess money into the economy by printing money and this situation could be controlled by using the instruments of monetary policy to mop up the excess money supply. However, some economists have argued that the negative impacts of this policy overshadowed its positive contributions hence the system is considered a failure (Harvey 2010, ... • 8. Essay on Son of the Morning Star Son of the Morning Star Analysis Evan S. Connell has a unique writing style. While most stories are told from beginning to end, Son of the Morning Star: Custer and The Little Bighorn (North Point Press, 1984) begins with the aftermath of The Battle of the Little Bighorn. It is then followed by numerous events which led up to this battle. Connell chose this non linear writing style in order to distribute the details he finds most fascinating and interesting to share with his audience. Using the conclusion of the battle as the introduction of the narrative creates a suspenseful tone. • 9. Wills Law Essay Wills Problem: The Estate of Jackie Kennedy Onassis 1. The overall testamentary plan seems to be that Jackie Kennedy Onassis (testator) estate was allocated proportionately to those people she deemed to be the closest to her. Thus, the further away from Jackie via bloodline, the less the person inherited and the less personal the gifts seemed to be. The majority of her real and personal property was left to her children, while friends and other relatives received legacy gifts. Some of the gifts to her friends were very specific (as in question 3), so it is likely that there was some sort of sentimental value between Jackie, the devisee, and the property in question. This UPC Stage 3 rule does not apply to non relatives whatsoever. Jackie Kennedy Onassis left gifts to Mellon, Tempelsman, and Forger, but she listed them in her will as friends . Because they predeceased the testator and no alternative beneficiaries were stated for their gifts, one must look to see if there is an applicable Stage 2 anti lapse statute. Under both Stage 2 and Stage 3 majority rules, anti lapse statutes do not protect friends ; therefore the gifts would fail. It is possible that First D could be construed as naming Jackie s children as alternate beneficiaries if First A, B, C failed, so the testator s surviving children would take these gifts. 3. Upon researching, it was found that there are certain brands that do not necessarily follow the current advised procedures for this practice. One of these brands is Apple Inc., and being one of the most cherished brands of all times, it was decided that an investigation on its consumers behaviour would possibly shed light over the research question: Are there exceptions to the current rules in the practice of brand communications and exposure? . To be able to raise the hypothesis of the exception, the current procedures for successful brand exposure and communications, were examined and analysed, and then compared to the survey s results on Apple s consumers opinions. 5.2 SUMMARY OF THE STUDY The review of literature has provided important information on how the 21st century market is shaped and influenced by the digital technologies. • 14. Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle And Thermodynamics Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle and Thermodynamics I m writing this research paper for my Thermodynamics class with Professor Roh. I have a big interest in turbine gas engines and how they operate. My future goal within mechanical engineering is to learn how to maintain and design turbine gas engines. How do Turbine Gas Engines operate? I read this article at Wartsila website which enlightened me that Gas turbines are comprised of three primary sections mounted on the same shaft: the compressor, the combustor and the turbine. The compressor can be either axial flow or centrifugal flow. Axial flow compressors are more common in power generation because they have higher flow rates and efficiencies. The acceleration of the air through the rotating blades and diffusion by the stators increases the pressure and reduces the volume of the air. Although no heat is added, the compression of the air also causes the temperature to increase. The compressed air is mixed with fuel which ignites under constant pressure conditions and the hot combustion products (gases) are directed through the turbine where it expands rapidly and imparts rotation to the shaft. The turbine is also comprised of stages, each with a row of stationary blades (or nozzles) to direct the expanding gases followed by a row of moving blades. The rotation of the shaft drives the compressor to draw in and compress more air to sustain continuous combustion. The remaining shaft power is used to drive a generator ... Moreover, Mobile works of Jean Tinguely were created to destroy or to self destruct, all in an effort to mock the overproduction of goods meaningless, manufactured by advanced industrial society. After incurring abstract painting, the Swiss artist experimented with kinesthetic movement as a form of expression. His first works, exhibited in Paris, moved by electric motors. Monumental pieces that help implement an ironic universe of useless machines, it seemed, were produced. According to the Editors of Encyclopedia Britannia, Tinguely began to construct his first truly sophisticated kinetic sculptures, which he termed métaméchaniques , or metamechanicals. • 26. Pros And Cons Of New Media Old media like cassette tapes are becoming second tier goods since the public would like to listen to music through social media feed or visit their favorite music site with a cup of coffee in hand. The new media technology makes people s lives more convenient in favor of the old ways of consuming the music types such as social platforms and specific applications. I spend most of my time listening to music on my smartphone applications whereas my dad spends his time with his old cassette tapes. In this essay, I will identify the notion of overcoming limits in both physical and social aspects that new media give us. Generally, Cassette tapes are a magnetic tool for recording and playback. Over the last decade, cassette tapes still offer do it yourself musicians, who record their original music in tapes and mail to companies. My dad loves the cassette tapes because he is a rock lover who firmly believes that the cassette tapes have magic behind it. A lot of the music applications lack a physical, tactile sensation and collection. However, he sees my music application, which includes all the songs in the 1980s with lyrics and easy to find such as Spotify and Apple Music. For example, one of my dad s bookshelf is full of the cassette tapes. It is hard to find a specific song or album in short time and to get tangled up with tape afterward. I just type the name of the song in the search engine, usually is a blank box at the very top. Then all the relative songs will form a list ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a 1962 essay entitled Who Killed Benny Paret? the author, Norman Cousins, writes about the dangers that come with the sport of boxing. He especially talks about a match that resulted in the death of a boxer named Benny Paret. Cousins argues that boxing is just a show of violence and that boxers put themselves in the ring just for the simple purpose of entertaining a crowd. Even though investigations reflect the role of the referee, Paret s manager, and the doctor s examinations as the main cause of Paret s death, Cousins blames Paret s death on the people that attends boxing matches to see a man get hurt or knockout because he ... Boxers sometimes face the challenge of defeating their opponent for many reasons. Those reasons could be to prove they can win, to earn money and to not disappoint or lead down fans and beaters. Many boxers choose boxing because they are good at it and it s a way of earning money, just like Benny Paret. Boxing is a dangerous sport since every boxer become badly hurt and ill at the end of every match. Most boxers suffer from brain damages as a result of many hits in the head. Cousins explains that Benny Paret was killed because of a massive hemorrhage in the brain, caused by an impact directed against the head (par. 7) Cousins also wrote Not every blow to the head will kill a man but there is always the risk of concussion and damage to the brain (par. 7). Fighters that survive repeated concussions still go and fight, but the problem here is that the damage in the brain may be permanent. Sometimes boxers should consider their health problems before fighting again. The viewers are the main encouragement for boxers to keep fighting or to fight harder. It does not matter if you work in fashion design, an artist in an art studio, or working for an automobile company such as Ford; we all reference what the past has taught us. It is foolish to press forward and not look back to discover how others achieved great heights, or to prevent great tragedy and disaster. No one wants to see another Nazi Germany, but we all want to see an Independance day. The bible is just as diverse and wide in the subjects of life and faith. We can look back into its pages and see time unfolding before our very eyes. Most likely, anyone who has read Matthew has seen the genealogy of Jesus and seen the name of this woman; Ruth. Today, we are going to discuss the book of Ruth and how it foreshadows Jesus Christ in the gospels. When talking about who wrote this book and when, we must keep in mind that the bible was put together in chronological order as events had taken place. The book seems to take place during the time of Judges (Flemming, 308). Scholars and researchers have debated who wrote the book and when. Seeing that in Ruth 4:18 22 references King David in genealogy, the prophet Samuel has been thought to have written the book between the dates of 1011 and 931 B.C. Part 2: Desertification Challenges Desertification is an environmental problem difficult to address due to its wide definition and extensive forms of manifestation. According to Warren, the inadequacies of the definitions of desertification, even among the scientific community, has led to a credibility gap and a dismissal of the issue relative to other environmental problems (12). Secondly, there are logistical issues, as sustainably managing dry lands would involve a bottom up approach and the inclusion of local populates affected by desertification in the decision making process (13). Each of these lives are being carried out all at the same time, and each of those lives are filled with different experiences, different losses, different gains, they have each had a vulnerable moment and a moment where they were filled with love and more importantly each of them has their own story. The best thing about the noise in our society is that although there is a negative effect in situations of the ability to listen to personal music, there is also a positive side which encompasses the same thing. The reason that most of us listen to our own music is not only possibly a sub conscious effort to seclude ourselves from other around us, but also because we want to please ourselves by listening to sounds or music we like. Therefore, one example of how noise in our society promotes communication would be when a group of strangers are somewhere and here the new Taylor Swift song that they all love, they catch themselves singing and dancing to it, simultaneously noticing the others doing the same which breaks that barrier of being strangers by making them realize they have something in common. This later leads to them speaking to each other and possibly beginning a relationship. Similarly, from a more fundamental perspective sounds as simple as someone chopping wood outside, singing in the shower in the morning, or the sound of a jump rope hitting the pavement as little kids play, all play in the role of promoting communication; all you have to do is listen for ... Canvases and oil paints are easier to depict mythical and heroic figures effectively because the paint can be applied thick which makes blending of colours easier to achieve. The linseed or walnut oil dries very slowly thus making it simple to revise the image. In addition, canvases are light and retain a glossy surface. Through using the film s goals and other scientific theories, Bears shows the possible outcome of climate change in Alaska, the impact it has on local wildlife, and how both climate change and wildlife influence the fate of the other. Michael Carey s research emphasizes the American idea that people once thought of Alaska as an unchanging, eternal face, but now see it at the center of national and international climate change discussion. Monika P. Calef in her study on distribution in Alaska researched Alaska s climate change and what Bears portrayed from a vegetation perspective. In the study it is later pointed out that with the decrease of tundra areas resulting from climate change, forested areas were growing due to the warmer temperatures, causing other habitats to change and produce different resources. Lowell H. Suring, connecting his ideas of human impact on environmental change to other research, also pointed out that other climate and environmental factors influence the availability of important foods for bears and other wildlife. The research that the articles converse about relate to how Bears changes what Alaska means to us in regards to being an unchangeable wilderness to a wilderness that is changing due to climate change. This idea of a wilderness changing is also supported in Philip D. Martin s report of wildlife response to environmental change. He claims that understanding the response of wildlife to climate change requires, improved understanding of physical and ecological processes, as well as enhanced knowledge of natural history and population. Regardless of whether it is because of warming temperatures, shrinking resources, or human development each of these theorists believe that there is a certain cause of climate change in Alaska. Even though this poem is relatively short, the vivid expression of grief is somewhat awe inspiring. The first interpretation of who the speaker is in The Wife s Lament is very shaky and not well accepted among scholars and even the average reader. This interpretation is that the speaker may be a male and not a female as we all believe. It was very common in Anglo Saxon times for the lord of a group of people to be more to them than a ruler. Very often he would become a close friend to his people and they loved him like family. The relationship between lord and man was more than just a business arrangement and although they were working for the lord, he was respected much like a father figure would be. The problem with this interpretation is that the grammatical gender is feminine. This is the reason why everyone assumes that the speaker is a female. Supporters of this reading of The Wife s Lament believe that somewhere along the line of translating the poem the translator made a mistake and changed the gender of the speaker. As I have already said, this interpretation is very rough around the edges and rather hard to believe. I believe that if the speaker were male then there would be no real reason for his being exiled in this fashion. It was not a custom for communities to allow foreigners in thus falsifying ...
