hide away in the attic of Otto s, Anne s father, company during the Nazi occupation of the
Netherlands. She received the diary when she was turned 13 years old and a month later one of her
sisters is called to appear before authorities which will mean certainly that she ll be sent to a
concentration camp. The family then goes into hiding.
Her family stays with the van Daans and their son, Peter, soon after Mr. Dussel moves in as well. .
Luckily her family is surrounded by books and a radio so Anne begins to develop a keen sense of
politics. There comes a time when there s a bit of romantic tension between Anne and Peter, since she
was earlier in love with another Peter, she sometimes mixes them up. They soon develop a strong
friendship due to their unfortunate circumstances. You can actually see that Anne made some
corrections and added to some of her diary entries due to the hope that the war would end but that
unfortunately never happens. The Annex is raided and their sent to concentration camps. The book

First of all, the major types and techniques in this time era were genre, glazes, impastos , etching and
dry point, which is a technique where images are done on metal plates, and tenebrism or also known
as chiaroscuro. The paintings and sculptures of the Baroque period had some diversity them such as
large religious or historical paintings. Also, portraits of people, still life or shots and then finally genre,
which is just basically scenes that are taken or painted of everyday life. According to a definition in
the Art History book, genre painting is a term that is used loosely to categorize paintings depicting
scenes of everyday life, including domestic interiors, parties, inn scenes, and street scenes (Stokstad

performed during the Baroque period. Glazing is just when the artist puts a layer of liquid onto a piece

of thick layers of pigment to a painting to give it a clear texture.

led to the observation of Thomas Robert Malthus to forecast a tragic future of massive famine on a

In the short story Gryphon by Charles Baxter, it starts out with Mr. Hibler, a boy named Tommy and
his 4th grade class teacher, getting sick and needing Miss Ferenczi as a substitute. Miss Ferenczi
basically abandons the lesson plan and just talks and talks about very interesting things in place of
having class, even going so far as to bringing in a tarot pack to tell the class fortunes on the last day.
Though Tommy liked Miss Ferenczi, other classmates were upset with her, so she then gets fired and
the class spends the afternoon with Mrs. Mantei s class for science. In the story, Tommy was shown to
