Essay on John Keats La Belle Damn Sans Merci Analysis
Of all the themes in poetry, one that is most commonly used and stands out quite a lot is love. T. S
Elliot once quoted Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion . As such, it is
no wonder that the themes of unrequited love and despair are very prominent in poem La Belle Dame
sans Merci by John Keats. In this poem Keats clearly denotes his personal rebellion against the pains
of love and revealed the sad reality that; in pleasure, there is pain. This paper will take a closer look at
one of the most prominent themes in La Belle Dame sans Merci; Love and Despair.
The poem begins with a forlorn and heartbroken narrator suffering from both physical and emotional
pain, So haggard and woebegone (l 6) who meets a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was all alone and the his expectations of the romance was shattered. It then dawned that his
suffering disappointment stemmed from the realization that she never really loved him the way he
thought she did. At this point the knight is lonely and hopeless, but he does not show anger towards
her. This shows his understanding that in love there is despair. Even though the love he feels for her is
pure and true, she did not have the same feelings.
The only clues in La Bella Dame sans Merci that depicts whether or not the love felt by the maiden
towards the knight is true, comes from the dreams of the knight when he was sleeping. In his dream he
comes to the realization that the maiden is pitiless and she has no mercy. His dreams can be
interpreted as if the knight subconsciously knew that the love wasn t real and that the maiden had
already left him, and his mind has already started shifting the blame towards her. This mentally
prepares the knight for the harsh reality that he has to face as he awakes. The dream might just be his
rationalization; a way of making her out to be evil in order to cope with the pain of learning his love is
unrequited, and in love there is despair.
Despair is the state of having lost all hope, of finding oneself unable to believe life will ever be good
again. The knight in La Belle Dame sans Merci falls into despair when he learns a relationship that
seemed to be just starting has abruptly ended. His

Cuban Missile Crisis Analysis
The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the Missile Scare, was a 2 week period in October of 1962
that was a result of increasing tensions amongst the United States and the Soviet Union. Tension
between the US and the USSR is not new and is known as the Cold War, often stated to be a period
between 1945 until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Intelligence gathered over the span of
couple months all seemed to lead to the common conclusion that the Soviet s are installing offensive
nuclear weapons that will be able to reach continental US in mainland Cuba. The initial spark seemed
to be the awfully failed attempt to invade Cuba, also known as the Bay of Pigs invasion under the
Kennedy administration, and the presence of American Jupiter Ballistic missiles in Turkey and Italy.
What is interesting about the Cuban Missile crisis is how the Kennedy administration confronted the
issue. The Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top military officials of the United States pushed for a full on
invasion, which could trigger a world wide nuclear war. Kennedy wanted to avoid a full on
confrontation, making him seem intelligent but weak . In the film, Thirteen Days, based off the
memoir of Robert F. Kennedy, Thirteen Days, where Robert wrote about his point of view of the
Cuban Missile Crisis, revealed how complex and mentally demanding it was to resolve and dissipate
tensions with the Soviet Union without causing World War III. Photographic intelligence taken by a
spy plane going over mainland Cuba revealed about 40 intermediate range ballistic missiles capable of
reaching continental United States. There were 3 options; diplomatic talks and international pressure,
a blockade, or a full on invasion. The Joint Chiefs of Staff pushed for a full on invasion, meanwhile
the Kennedy s pushed for a less aggressive move. EXCOMM, the Executive Committee of the
National Security Council composing of the NSC and key advisors the President hand picked, met in
the White House during the crisis to discuss how to proceed on the issue. The film revealed how much
the Joint Chiefs of Staff disliked Kennedy s methods and how much they wished to act on their own.
Nuclear missile tests were conducted independent of the oval office, seen

How does Make A Wish help those in need? Make A Wish is one of the most well known charities in
the world for giving dying children one last wish and making it come true for them. I remember in
middle school one of my friend s brothers had cancer and so his parents reached out to Make A Wish
to try and give their son a happy memory that he could cherish for the rest of his life. He wished he
could ride in a monster truck so the people at Make A Wish had it arranged and they reached out and
asked them to come to the Delta Center which was home to the Utah Jazz but could also house
monster trucking. He went and got to ride in the most famous monster ... Show more content on

These kids who knew they were going to die were given hope, hope that could hopefully allow them
to become healthier. It might seem stupid or gimmicky to older people but to these kids it s all they got
in life. Make A Wish grew so rapidly because of this, that they were making tens of thousands of
wishes come true each year.
Now that we have covered the full history of Make A Wish let s move on to general facts of Make A
Wish. To be eligible you must be referred by someone treating the child, a parent or legal guardian, or
the children themselves if they are of age. The average cost of granting a wish is $10,130. Make A
Wish pays for the full experience including costs of travel because they believe that the parents have
enough financial worries. The way Make A Wish makes money for all of this is from mainly donations
and foundation grants. This means that normal every day citizens are funding these wishes and could
be giving a dying kid their last wish which I think is special. There have been numerous celebrities
and stars that participate in Make A Wish. John cena holds the record for Make A Wish at over 500
wishes. Justin Bieber has participated in over 200 wishes and numerous celebrities have done multiple
wishes. This is all voluntary so none of these celebrities are forced to do it.

Douglas Adams Writing Style
A Guide to the Humorous Galaxy What would you do if your closest friend told you that he or she
was an alien and the world was about to blow up in 12 minutes? The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy
by Douglas Adams is about a man named Arthur Dent who sets off on an adventure when his good
friend, Ford Prefect, turns out to be an alien and tells him that Earth is about explode. In the novel,
Ford helps Arthur escape the destruction of Earth and together they survive in the universe as
hitchhikers, with the help of The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, Ford s universal encyclopedia.
Throughout the novel, Douglas Adams uses a humorous style to keep the reader engaged as indicated
by his diction, characterization, and applied theme. To begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Adams humorously depicts each character with his or her own distinctive personality. For instance, he
depicts Marvin the robot as depressed when Marvin says, I only have to talk to somebody and they
begin to hate me. Even robots hate me. If you ignore me I expect I shall probably go away (214). The
way in which Adams jocularly illustrates Marvin s depressed attitude makes it funny. This instance is
additionally funny because no one would expect a robot to have any emotions. Another way Adams s
characterization reveals his humorous style in this case is the fact that Marvin is so depressed he
makes witty remarks that can make one laugh. This characterization is also shown in Zaphod s attitude
when he says, If there is anything more important than my ego I want it found and shot now (98).
Adams shows Zaphod as a carefree and self centered person who can make some funny decisions.
Zaphod also is a character that makes jokes that can make the reader laugh. Arthur s confused
personality is yet another example of Adams s use of characterization. This is shown when Arthur says
I don t know if this sounds like a silly question, but what am I doing here? (54). Arthur s confused
attitude can make him ask laughably dumb questions. Also, Adams makes Arthur, shown as an
ordinary human, go on an adventure in a very extraordinary universe, which is entertaining for the
audience. Douglas Adams s humorous style is effectively revealed through his use of

Comparing The Works Of Genji And Lady Akashi
In the Tale of Genji, there are various poems that make an appearance, each holding a special meaning
for the creator and the recipient. The waka poetry pervades the life of the Heian Court, revealing the
character s personality, illuminating their thoughts, and expressing the love and desires they have.
Thus giving us, the readers a clarification of the relationships and progression of the characters. To
answer the prompt of who would I date based on the poetry, I would say that there is no one in
particular I would date. Not because their poetry wasn t romantic or didn t provoke a dialogue, but
rather because if the character was alive today, I think, it wouldn t necessarily have the same effect as
it did during the Heian period. I do enjoy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If clouds or smoke in this case has an action attached or shows movement, then it could also
symbolize the passing or separation of these lovers. This meaning can be seen in the poem above; thus
reminding Genji of his lovers, whether they are alive or dead.
The usage of poetry to express a characters interest or their feelings can cause a well of emotions from
the readers, possibly because of past experiences or because the situation the character was in is
relatable. I can t speak for others, but some of the poems present in the Tale of Genji, and the situation
that brought upon that poem, I can relate to and understand why the character felt that way.
To quote the poet Robert Frost, poetry ...is a reaching out toward expression; an effort to find
fulfillment. A complete poem is one where an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found
the words. It is difficult to put feelings into words, because someone else might not share the same
feelings, so, once we know the words to use the emotions transform into words that we can then
convey to

Business Meeting Etiquette
Basic Meeting Etiquette
Abstract Meeting etiquette involves all participants and the leader having respect for each other.
Meetings should be purpose driven and focused. The leader establishes the direction and purpose the
listeners should be prepared to follow along or to provide inputs to that goal. By following etiquette
appropriate for the meeting setting, more resolutions may be accomplished in the allotted time. In a
perfect world, a group synergy may evolve to increase productivity.
Basic Meeting Etiquette
Meetings are a part of managerial function in organizations. Coordination is the orderly
synchronization of all efforts of the organization to achieve the objectives (Haimann 1973, PG 38).

Do not interrupt interaction between group members as long as it is productive. However, direct away
from counterproductive inputs or negativity. The first responsibility is to be organized.
The group Leader, the person scheduling the meeting, and expected to chair the group, should provide
communication in the form of an Email or memo. The contents should state why the meeting is being
held, potential discussion and brief agenda. This correspondence with a few individuals along with
group announcements of what is going on and when the meeting is will give respect to the attendees
and give them time to formulate any inputs that they may have to offer.
The group leader should continue to be an example of business etiquette by being on time for the
meeting. Not only on time, but arrive a little early for the meeting to set up and go over the materials.
To make sure one is well prepared for the meeting before the attendees start arriving. This includes
having all materials, power point presentation as well as all equipment needed for the meeting.
Running around at the last second to get things set up is impolite. Preparedness demonstrates a respect
of others. When a leader is ready and well prepared, the meeting will flow well.
Additional aspects of preparation should include a prepared and perhaps revised written agenda
generated since the initial announcement for the

Postmodernism In Post Modernism
Post Modernism is a revolutionary era that follows Modernism and developed in mid to late twentieth
century. It takes a changed and developed approach across philosophy, art, criticism, and architecture
and makes a departure from Modernism. The term Postmodernism is applied to an era that both
follows modernity, and also acts as a host of movements that emerged during the era especially in art,
music, and literature, marked by the tendencies against modernism. It is more like the rejection of
conventional social norms , followed by the Counter culture movement. Counter culture movement
spreads massively in Europe and North America during mid 20th century, which is a subculture whose
norms of behavior and values substantially differ from those of dominant mainstream society and
culture. Its 1960 s to 1970 s development generated a unique brand of its own in the field of notable
literature, including comics and cartoons.
Postmodernism is often associated with schools of thought such as ... Show more content on

It was his third published novel, after The Collector (1963) and The Magus (1965). The novel presents
a Victorian tale and setting with the elements of Postmodernism and the characters that are ahead of
their time. Thus, it resembles a Victorian novel in structure and detail, while pushing the traditional
boundaries of narrative in a very modern manner. It explores the fraught relationship of gentleman and
amateur naturalist Charles Smithson and Sarah Woodruff, the former governess and independent
woman with whom he falls in love. Fowles has represented Sarah Woodruff and Charles in a very
contrasting manner, one being so independent and other like more stereotypical male characters, that
also receives attention for its treatment of gender issues. The novel builds on Fowles authority in
Victorian literature, both following and critiquing many of the conventions of period

Why Did The Zapatistas Adopt Indigenous Rights
Despite the fact that government s announcement to amend the constitution came in 1992 which was a
big issue for the indigenous population, and that they had been experiencing other hardships
throughout history, the EZLN did not explicitly make indigenous rights a part of their platform until a
year later (Hayden 12). Part of the reason that the Zapatistas adopted this movement could be to gain a
stronger support base. The 1990s had already proven to have put emphasis back on questions of
indigenous rights back in the minds of people. In 1992 a movement in Latin America took place called
the 500 Years of Resistance and author Rigoberta Menchú, who came from an indigenous working
class background, being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize that same year (Ross 146). It makes sense
then that the EZLN would adopt indigenous rights as one of their objectives. The EZLN did not shed
their aims of wanting democracy and their nationalistic tone, but instead started to frame some of
these sentiments from an indigenous viewpoint. In 1995 emphasis was beginning to be put on the need
for indigenous rights. One of the most visible actions that the EZLN took that signified this ... Show

George Patton Character Traits
General George S. Patton liked fame and winning, the advance towards Palermo, Sicily, was a race
that Patton won for the U.S (Murray 63). Patton was born on November 11, 1885 in San Gabriel,
California. Patton always wanted to be a soldier, so in 1905 he enrolled into the U.S. Military
Academy at West Point and graduated in 1909. And in 1910 he married Beatrice Ayer who had been a
childhood friend. As a strict general in World War II George Patton s personality made him a better
leader, respected by his soldiers, and honored to this day for his war tactics. Patton had reputations for
being a tough general and an enthusiast about warfare. In 1943 at an army field hospital, a soldier didn
t look wounded but was crying; Patton came over to him and called him a coward. (George S. Patton)
One of Patton s famous quotes is: We shall attack and attack until we are exhausted, and then we shall
attack again. He had a big temper, cursed and as a result of that was a skull injury in his 20s. He was
an accident prone young man. (Grimm 2) In 1917 he was assigned to Tank Corps. Patton was an
enthusiastic supporter of tank warfare. (Samuels 35) Patton s personality led him to do great things in

Wi Fi For Education And Information Systems
Wi Fi for Education and Information Systems in Indian Rural Communities Throughout developing
nations, access to Wi Fi is limited to none. There are huge advantages to having access to the Internet
in various ways. An extremely important advantage to Wi Fi availability is so one can access the
Internet for information to educate their selves. The Internet is filled with information right at ones
fingertips that can be accessed at any time. Some countries such as India have numerous rural
communities that cannot access this information. Lack of Internet access in today s world can prove to
be detrimental to one s life. People who live in these communities throughout the world that do not

This is where the MDG Wi Fi for Education comes into play. Wi Fi for Education is a MDG discussed
in the book Designing A World That Works For All by Medard Gabel. This MDG discuss the strategy
to provide those living in the developing world with Internet access via affordable Wi Fi so that
education related material could be provided to them as it is to many throughout the world. According
to the book, Its goals include providing Internet access (email plus phone service) to 4 billion people,
living in the developing world, for $1/month and to use the Internet as a medium for education... This
is an important factor because people living in these rural communities would not be able to afford Wi
Fi when offered if it was not at an affordable rate. This is because most people living in these
communities live a life of poverty and simply cannot afford to pay substantial amounts for Internet
access. There also seems to be a few choices in setting up a Wi Fi infrastructure in developing nations,
including a solar powered communications station. Costs range from $500 per village to $1000 per
village to set up a Wi Fi infrastructure, to $2000 for a village wide solar powered communications
station. These numbers may seem to be quite affordable, but one must understand how many rural
villages in India have a need for this infrastructure. Prices can total up $638 million in order to

Michael Vick As A Professional Football Player
Most people know of Michael Vick as a professional football player. But in 2007, he created national
attention for something other than his athletic ability. He was accused and convicted of running a
professional dog fighting ring, and he d torture the dogs that proved themselves weak and bad fighters.
It was bad enough he was committing these crimes, but to be representing the country as a highly paid
athletem, led national controversy, and with that, discussions of the ethical issues surrounding the
matter. People (fans) think he got off lucky, givin his predicament of being wealthy and one of the
greatest football players of all time. People believe that Michael Vick should ve received a worse
punishment for his operation, which included the killing of dogs who proved themselves weak. It s
very possible that Michael Vick got off because he s rich, famous, and most likely well liked, despite
his personal history. Most people feel compelled to believe that if he was an ordinary citizen, his short
prison sentence would ve been a lengthier one. Michael Vick lost a lot of fans from his horrendous
acts and people didn t want to see him in a place other than jail for his heinous crimes. In August
2007, Vick pleaded to federal felony charges and served 21 months in prison, followed by two months
in home confinement. Vick filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after being hurt financially by the loss of
his NFL salary, product endorsement deals, and financial mismanagement.

Some people wish for success while others work for it. I Beat The Odds: from homelessness to the

football prodigy today. Mr. Oher takes readers through his world of challenges, through his emotional
background and past the film based on his experiences, and significantly how he beat the odds of
society. Michael Oher s journey began as he grew up in the ghettos of Memphis, Tennessee along with

breaking the law or hurting people. The reader receives an impression of a man with remarkable
maturity starting at a young age; compassion and kindness toward others are even more outstanding
given the lack of nurturing he received early in life. Even from a young age, he could differentiate
right from wrong. The book definitely gives the reader a better idea of the real Michael Oher as he
expresses a maturity beyond his years.
The simple and plainspoken style makes it easier for the reader to receive the loud message. The word

The Causes And Treatment Of Dialysis
DIALYSIS
Being one of the eight leading causes of death in the United States, kidney disease is very life
threatening. Many people carry on day to day routines with no knowledge of the signs to be aware of
when developing kidney failure. The two main causes of kidney failure are high blood pressure and
diabetes. For people with kidney failure, options for treatment become dialysis or to receive a kidney
transplant. Since the process for a kidney transplant could take years, many people choose to receive
dialysis treatment. The process of dialysis serves as a substitute for the kidneys and clinically flushes
the blood of any impurities.
The process of dialysis evolved in the twentieth century. After watching a man die due to kidney
failure, Dr. Willem Kolff (father of dialysis) discovered the first artificial kidney. In 1943, Dr. Kolff s
mission to invent the first artificial kidney was a success. During the era, of World War II, the artificial
dialyzers helped save many soldier s lives. Because of this great invention, many kidney patients were
able to live longer which gave them a greater chance of survival. Because dialysis changed the life
expectancy of the patients, many were able to receive transplants. The first kidney transplant was
performed in the early 1950 s. Since this invention was created, many technological improvements
have come along which is making it possible for the people effected by kidney disease to live long,
meaningful lives.

Preventing Violent Crimes In The United States
Violent crimes are unfortunately a routine occurrence among our present society. Violent crimes are
those in which an offender uses and/or threatens to use a weapon in order to accomplish their crimes.
A violent crime occurs in the United States every 27 seconds (Karmen 78). Violent crimes can end
fatally if the offender feels threatened. Many behaviors can be practiced in order to successfully
reduce the likelihood of these violent crimes from occurring.
1. The most fatal violent crime is the crime of murder. Murder can occur in many forms: first degree
murder, second degree murder, serial murder, spree murder, and mass murder to name a few. The
major difference between first and second degree murder includes an offender who commits first
degree murder has ultimately planned the murder, while second degree murder is ultimately
spontaneous. Additionally, serial murder includes killings of 3 or more people within separate
emotional events. On the other hand, spree murder and mass murder are singular emotional events
however spree murder is the killing of multiple people in a number of locations while mass murder is
the killing of multiple people in one singular location. Factors that may increase the chance of a
person becoming a victim includes the victim being male (Davis, Lurigio, and Herman, 135). Living
in the United States in general can greatly increase a person s chance of becoming a murder victim
due to the United States having murder rates that are double

Black Swan Analysis
Using Oral Conventions in Black Swan to Expose Mental Turmoil Darren Aronofsky s Black Swan,
showcases Nathalie Portman as Nina Sayers, a member of a prestigious dance company where she
faces external and internal pressures to be the elite. In the NYC dance company, Nina struggles to
maintain the lead role. The constant mental instability consumes her, leading to her downfall. Orals
have the power to intensify a performance, and they can allow for insight on a person s thoughts and
troubles. Visual conventions work alongside and help support oral conventions to successfully present
both a rhetorical message and experience. Oral conventions such as speed and length, volume and tone
set by instruments parallel and portray Nina s monstrous characteristics of a constant rush of conflicts
resulting in an unstable mentality. Composer, Clint Mansell, was the former lead singer of the band,
Pop Will Eat Itself. He debuted his film scoring in the film Pi and then worked alongside director,
Darren Aronofsky to compose the soundtrack to Black Swan. Clint Mansell was inspired by
Tchaikovsky when he created the instrumental pieces. Mansell relates with the desire to move
forward, change, and become the things you d really really love to be (Acharya). He was able to
portray this mental state because he acknowledges that in today s world you identify with that double
edged sword, of really wanting to achieve things and do your best, while realising that there s a bit of
an ache to the other parts of your life (Acharya). He experiences the hardships of trying to perfect his
work in the music industry. Mansell personally resonates with the theme of confusion that Black Swan
carries enabling him to create a relatable and raw soundtrack.
In 2010, this film was released to a modern society where individuals suffer from diagnosed
psychological illnesses. Constant pressures of school, work, and balancing a healthy life can cause
physical, emotional, and mental harm, transforming an individual s sanity to complete insanity. This
medium allows for an audience to be able to relate to the concept of feeling in constant turmoil with
oneself. Mansell s instrumental composition, Perfection embodies and showcases this theme

Why? * The future value will be larger if we compound an initial amount more often than annually.
For example, you deposit $100 in a bank that pays a 10% annual interest rate but credits interest each
6 months. Therefore, in the second 6 month period, you earn interest on your original $100 plus
interest on the interest earned during the first 6 months. 14. Define (a) the stated (or quoted or
nominal) rate, (b) the periodic rate, and (c) the effective annual rate (EAR or EFF%).
(a) The stated rate is the contracted or quoted interest rate and is also referred to as the annual
percentage rate (APR).
(b) The periodic rate is the annual percentage rate divided by the number of periods per year.
(c) The effective annual rate is the annual rate of interest actually being earned, as opposed to the
quoted rate. 15. What is the EAR corresponding to a nominal rate of 10% compounded semiannually?
Compounded quarterly? Compounded daily? * Compounded Semiannually:
EAR = [1+ 0.10/2]2 1 = 0.1025 = 10.25% * Compounded Quarterly:
EAR = [1+ 0.10/4]4 1 = 0.1038 = 10.38% * Compounded Daily:

Lupe As A Role Model
Most people think being a role model is like a popularity contest, they think it s easy. People think all
they have to do is fit in with the crowd so they can be popular. But being a role model is not an easy
task, although Lupe makes it look that way when she doesn t even fit in. In the story, The Marble
Champ, by Gary Soto, Lupe is a very good role model. Lupe shows this by being a good sport, always
working hard, and by being intelligent.
One reason why I think Lupe is a good role model is because she is very intelligent. As proof, Lupe s
academic grades are straight A s. This shows that Lupe is intelligent because not many people get
straight A s on their report card every year of school. Secondly, Lupe is intelligent because she has
won multiple awards. For example, Lupe won the school spelling bee, she won the blue ribbon award
in the science fair, she was the winner of a reading contest at the library three summers in a row, she
was also the top student in her piano recital, and she was the playground champion of chess. Talk
about a ton of awards, right? Lupe feels like none of these awards mean anything though. Lupe wishes
she could win some type of award in athletics, so that she can keep up with the other girls in her
school, that s why Lupe is working towards her goal of being the marble champion. Also, in one case
in the story, when Lupe was playing marbles on her bed, she figured out that her bedspread was
slowing down the marbles as she shot them. This

Broken Spears
The author argues that the Spanish were completely at fault for the total destruction of the Aztec
Empire. In Broken spears, the author explains how many factors other than Spanish power contributed
to the downfall of the Aztecs. Not only did the Spanish have many advantages over the Aztecs, but
also they also exploited them and took advantage of the cultural difference. The main key aspects to
the Spanish victory, is that the Spanish were viewed as gods at first because of their appearance, the
Aztecs welcomed the Spanish with gifts and festivities, which showed the Spanish had total control of
people. The Aztecs also held a ritual ceremony for the arrival of the god that included a human
sacrifice, which was seen by the Spanish as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This brings a logical explanation for why the Chinese refused to let Europeans into their culture. The
Chinese did not commit the same mistake as the Aztecs, The Chinese strictly controlled all aspects of
contact between all European encounters and Chinese people, this is the main reason why the Chinese
people were not as badly exploited and exterminated as the Aztecs were. This shows that wherever
European powers got involved, they cause a great deal of damage to the point of extermination to
other cultures as in the case of the Aztec Empire.
Broken Spears offered detailed description of actual events during the Spanish conquests. Although it
seemed to be somewhat unclear, it was highly descriptive and had a high probability of accuracy. The
authors provided an excellent view of what really happened during the conquest, the information
provided was highly accurate from the Indian prospective, as what they saw and experienced.
I believe that this book presented a very excellent example of what happens when a European power
tries to exploit another cultures, and this is not the only time that we will see this happen. There will
many Aztec Like exploitations and destruction. It appears that the Europeans valued their interested

Spiritual Weedeater
Weedeater / Words of healing and hope
This week s sermon was Weedeater. A question I had was this: If you use it as a verb, is, the past tense,
weedate? Nevertheless, as you know, weedeaters trims weeds where lawnmowers cannot. Another
question I had was this: Would you use a weedeater to trim your flower bed?
In the days of Jesus a weed called tares grew alongside the wheat, and in their early growth stages, it
was difficult to differentiate between the two. If you plucked the tares you would also destroy some
wheat. It was only at harvest time that you could clearly differentiate between the two (Matthew 13:24
30).
Although some want a Church with no weeds, the Church is made up of broken, fallen people: Yes,
people like you and I. The beauty of it is that God gracefully accepts us and we gracefully accept one
another; yet, some want to weed the Church and the world before God does. When we pass final
judgment before God does, we arrogate ourselves to be God and destroy the good along with the bad

Maybe you have met a few spiritual weedeaters. Think of how much evil has been brought about by
seemingly good but self righteous intentions. An extreme example would be the witch hunts of the
1600 s. An example today would be going on a moral crusade that highlights a specific sin of which
one is not guilty, but a crusade that does not addresses one s own sins. By the way, I am not say we
cannot make judgments about right and wrong, yet it is a leap to arrogate ourselves as the final judge

and you are more close to the actual value, on the other hand, precision is when you have repeated
measurements and they do not have to be close to the real value, for example when you are doing an
experiment and you have to do three trials and they are giving you the same result but at the same

The Olympic Games Of Ancient Greece
Every four years, the entire world congregates to watch the Olympic Games. Here, thousands of the
world s greatest athletes compete for glory. The modern Olympic Games started only in 1896, but the
ancient Olympic Games began over two thousand years before. The ancient Greek Olympics were an
important part of the Greek culture and were celebrated for hundreds of years, during which the
political and cultural borders shifted. The athletic games held in Olympia during ancient Greece
exemplified the religious and exclusive nature of the ancient Greek society.
Even though the first ancient Olympic game started in 776 BCE, the tradition of athletics in ancient
Greece dates back to times before Homer. In the Odyssey, one can read about athletics and games.
Although the games held in Olympia were not the only athletic tournament in Greece, it was the oldest
and had the most importance.
Olympia was originally a sanctuary for people to come and worship the gods. There were numerous
temples and altars at the site, and many animals were sacrificed. The purpose of the games was to
celebrate and honor the Greek gods. Throughout the years, the main focus of the games was not of
personal glory and honor, but rather, to celebrate, glorify, and honor the gods.
The site of Olympia is marked by the Hill of Kronos, which juts into the landscape near the plains
where the Alpheios River meets the Kladeos River. This area was a sanctuary for the people of Elis.

Prospero In The Tempest
Prospero in William Shakespeare s play The Tempest starts out by manipulating his own daughter,
shutting down and controlling Ariel, and by kidnapping an innocent boy to get revenge for being
wronged . Throughout the play he is aggressive and verbally explosive to others, only shares half
truths or will change stories to fit his needs, and while he doesn t always tell the truth he does have
some validation to his stories. Over all, his character morality is rather grey, but through the eyes and
encounters with Miranda, Ariel, Alonso, Ferdinand, Antonio, and Caliban, he has a fairly minimal
character character growth, leaving Prospero as a controlling, manipulative, and aggressive character.

that he is also partly a victim of his brother. Caliban is fearful of Prospero throughout the play, and

that he views others as beneath him as his personal toys. Caliban states in the dirty pond The dropsy

The Japanese Tea Ceremony By Sen No Rikkyu
The Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) is derived from the influence of the Zen Buddhist masters of
the 14th and 15th centuries. In the 1500s, Sen No Rikkyu embraced the ideas of simplicity. He
developed a tea ritual that comprised of no wasted movement and no unneeded objects.
Instead of using expensive imported utensils, Rikkyu made tea in a thatched hut simply using an iron
kettle, a plain container for tea, a tea scoop, a whisk made from bamboo, and a common rice bowl for
drinking the tea. In a Rikyu style tearoom, the only decorations were a hanging scroll or a vase of
flowers placed in the alcove. The lack of decoration makes participants more aware of details and
awakens them to the simple beauty around them. The host of the tea ceremony may prepare
significantly for the event. This involves practicing all steps and hand movements, so that every aspect
of the ceremony is perfect, yet simple. The ceremony can be performed at a home, a tea house,
outdoors, or a special tea room. The décor for the ceremony is simplistic, including hanging scrolls
that are appropriate for the season or feature calligraphy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Organizational Culture and National Culture in...
Abstract
Multinational organizations are combinations of multicultural employees. Multicultural environments
cause cultural shock among leaderships and employees. Organizational culture and national culture
are significantly important in current marketing environment. Organizational culture mainly shows the
value and the roles inside the organization. However, national culture is the directing of organizational
culture and influence both leadership and employees deeply from their personal values. Furthermore,
the relationship between organizational culture and national culture has impacts on leaderships,
employees, job satisfaction as well as the commitment of employees to the organizations. This essay

For instance, Wallach (1983) viewes three perspectives of organizational culture, that is, innovative,
supportive and bureaucratic. Martin (1992) identified three forms of organizational culture, including
fragmentation, differentiation and integration. Goffee and Jones (1998) define four types of
organizational cultures, which is communal, fragmented, mercenary and networked. However, in a
company, individuals have personal values and beliefs as well as personal desires. On that account, the
attitude of employees and commitment to the companies may result in diversity of achievements.
National cultures also have some effects on the values, beliefs and personal desires. A variety of
countries have multifarious national cultures, giving rise to a culture shock in multinational
companies. Cross cultural research shows that significant differences exist in national culture
characteristic between western and eastern cultures (Hofstede, 1980, 1991; El Kahal, 2001; Chen,
2001). For instance, it is widely known that bureaucratic traditional deep rooted culture and high
power distance exist in Chinese companies (Pye, 1985; Chen, 2001). The management of firms in the
west and east makes a world of difference. The reason for that is the distinction between the impact of
national culture on individual worth and how individual worth adapts to the organizational culture.
Furthermore, after organizations in Hong Kong are mostly in power by ethnic Chinese, the Chinese

The Risky Venture of Currency Trading
Currency Trading Currency trading is a very risky venture especially when an investor doesn t
understand the market fundamentals. All types of business ventures have associated risks which vary
from country to country subject to the financial infrastructure and the monetary policies in place.
Other main economic drivers have to be taken into account as they contribute immensely to the
stability of the host country s currency against the hard currencies to determine the exchange rates
depending on the currency regime in place. Some of the main risks which are associated with currency
trading include; volatility, exchange rate risk, credit risk, monetary risk, interest risk and a possibility
of government intervention in the financial markets. For purposes of this paper Japan has been picked
as the country to be discussed. The Japanese currency is valued in Yen which is the official legal
currency and is universally accepted for carrying out major transactions within Japan. The exchange
rate between the US Dollar (USD) and the Japanese Yen (JPY) is one USD is equivalent to 78.46 JPY.

Marginalation Of Women In Tennessee WilliamsA Streetcar...
Women are marginalised in A Streetcar Named Desire through their economic status, their mental
health and their place as a woman in the society of 1940s. They are held as possessions for admiration
and housework. Neither of the men in the play treat them as they should be treated, and see them as
nothing more than a housemaker and a child bearer. Also, it is made prominently clear by Williams
that no woman would be able to survive without a man at that time. However, at some occasions,

However, without any people witnessing her, she s antithesis to this role. Her solution to her problems
is via escaping to alcohol consumption, promiscuity and madness. This escape portrays that women in
the new emerging world can no longer keep up with the role of a Southern Belle. It is the character of
Stanley that forces her to fall out of this character and show other people who she really is. Here,
Blanche is shown suppressed by him, which leads to her becoming powerless. She cannot overcome
the power and dominance of Stanley. They have an ongoing feud with each other during the play. And

Oedipus And Siddhartha Research Paper
Siddhartha by Herman Hesse and Oedipus the King by Sophocles are connected by the main
characters journey through suffering and self discovery. Siddhartha and Oedipus both suffer and find
out who they really are. Siddhartha started out as a boy who wanted to find enlightenment through the
teachings of others. Later in life however, he realizes that wisdom and enlightenment are things you
must discover for yourself. When Siddhartha was at his lowest point he believed that He was full of
surfeit, full of misery, full of death; there was nothing left in the world that could lure him, that could
delight him, that could comfort him. He yearned to know nothing more about himself, to find peace, to
be dead. Siddhartha felt like his whole world was over, and at that time he loathed himself. ... Show

Siddhartha would live on, and eventually discover himself and be open to everything the world has to
show him he would be at peace. At the beginning of the play, Oedipus was a king who wished to save
his city from a plague. He was determined to do everything in his power to help his people. When the
prophet Teiresias refuses to impart his knowledge that could save Thebes, Oedipus grows angry.
Agitated and spiteful from being mocked, Teiresias tells Oedipus the truth: that Oedipus is the
murderer of the former king, he is the reason his people suffer, and that his entire family lives in
shame and they don t know it. Oedipus does not believe him, and is in denial about all that he has
heard. Later, Oedipus still seeks the true criminal, with as much vigor as before. I must discover who I
am, know the secret of my birth, no matter how humble, how vile. However, he is unprepared for the
truth, and when he finally realizes who he is, he breaks. Oedipus slashes out his own eyes, so he
would not have to look at anything ever

Comparison Of King Kamehameha And Giuseppe Mazzini
King Kamehameha and Giuseppe Mazzini both grew to be great leaders. King Kamehameha was the
person who unified all the Hawaiian Islands under his rule. Kamehameha, however, was not always at
the top of the heap. He started off as a normal ali i but because of his increasing reputation after
defeating many others in powerful positions, gained control of all the Islands. Kamehameha was a
very tall and physically fit man, as well as skilled mentally and at the art of war (including using
weapons and fighting). Giuseppe Mazzini was the leader and founder of the political movement
(Risorgimento) that overthrew Italy s rule and united Italy with other kingdoms (e.g. Rome). He
believed in Italian freedom much like his fellow exiles, and got many people to join his cause. This is
what makes both King Kamehameha and Giuseppe Mazzini successful and effective leaders.
King Kamehameha and Giuseppe Mazzini are both effective leaders and have many similarities
although they had different ideals. First of all, both Kamehameha and Mazzini unified different
kingdoms. Kamehameha was the leader of the unification of the Hawaiian Islands, and Mazzini was
the leader of the unification of Italy. Kamehameha and Mazzini both overthrew/took over
governments in the process of unification. They altered the government in a way that suited the people
and themselves. Also, both of these leaders started out with little say in matters and didn t previously
have great power. They had to work their way up

`` Catch 22, By Joseph Heller
Dispute has always surrounded the justification for wars, especially the debate of whether soldiers
lives are being lost for necessary causes. Unlike other war novels, Joseph Heller criticizes the cruel
bureaucracy within the military, influenced by his own experiences as a bombardier in World War II.
In Heller s satirical novel, Catch 22, he defines the infuriating, contradictory processes the military
uses to run its soldiers lives and control their fates through his use of satirical dark humor, literary
techniques, structure and various themes.
Satire is woven throughout the novel to expose the faults of American institutions within the military,
such as religion and war. Religion is depicted through the chaplain, who gradually ... Show more

The soldiers under the officers, except for Yossarian, do not see a problem with this either. With this
absurdity, Heller is able to shock readers with the horror of the situation and convert Yossarian s
revolutionary anger into sardonic comedy (Solomon). Heller also makes fun of capitalism through
Milo Minderbinder. Initially Yossarian s friend, Milo s corrupt nature eventually shines through when
he sacrifices his fellow soldier s lives for his own profits. Milo arranges for a bombing of his own
squadron for his benefit. Using Milo Minderbinder s character, Heller condemns the unscrupulous
expansion of commercial interests that exploit people for profit or even reduce them to the status of
commodities (Felty). Heller s satire is especially harsh when he emphasizes that everything is forgiven
after Milo reveals that the raid resulted in a huge profit. Milo Minderbinder is the perfect symbol of
capitalism and greed.
Symbolism plays a huge part in Catch 22. Milo s greed for profits represents the greediness of
capitalism and people in general. His love for money and power causes him to betray his own country,
friends, and duty to maximize profits. His behavior is a reflection of self serving behavior that all
humans possess. When it comes down to it, survival becomes all that matters, and one must look to
save himself because the institutions that

Visual Effects And Its Effects On Modern Films
Visual Effects Pipelines
The film making process in modern films is a lot more complex than it has ever been.
Even the simplest of films require a large amount of crew and equipment, but none of these processes
has advanced the state of cinema as visual effects has. It says a lot that the highest grossing films of all
time are heavily driven by visual effects, one can infer that visual effects are now a major part of
storytelling. The majority of films contain visual effects, even when you don t realize it. Are the actors
driving down the highway? Is there a window in the scene?
Does the actor look unusually younger than usual? Most of these are invisible effects, often shot in
front of a green screen. Within each process that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Artists could know what elements were to be used in finalizing each shot, a feat that sometimes
required chasing down information. Now the information would be organized, and anything that was
approved up the pipeline would be made available. They provided training on the new system, and it
worked under a perfect training scenario. Once it was put into practice, it was a different matter.
Conflict arises
The moment we tried putting this into practice, artists soon began to realize that the
VISUAL EFFECTS PIPELINES 4 system, although followed as explained, wasn t working as
expected. There was a plethora of information missing from the menus, wrong versions of elements
published, and a lot of confused and irritated artists. The system, unfortunately, went back to the
drawing board, leaving people to chase down information the old fashioned way.
Root cause hunting
We ll be implementing a Root Cause Analysis to the problem, intending to find the reason why the
system failed, and what steps can be used to ensure that the new implementation does not go the same
way. Unfortunately, I was not involved in decision making process, and therefore can only analyse the
situation from an artist s view. We ll start off by gathering the data from interactions with other artists.
This was all feedback given amongst the artists themselves, before having it relayed to the
development team.
The first one is the training session: the dev team explained the

Nat Turner was a slave who used his failed troop in 1831 at Southampton virginia. That attempt leads
to an incident which became a justification of civil war. He was born on a small plantation in virginia,
owned by a slaveholder Benjamin Turner. Nat s mother was born in Africa captured by the colonial
masters, and shipped to the United State as a slave. She taught her son to hate slavery because she felt
death is better than slavery. His master s son taught Turner to understand how to read and speak

The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov
Anton Chekhov, like Henrik Ibsen, is considered a prominent writer on culture and society. Chekhov s
works are noteworthy, in part, because of the lives they portray. In The Cherry Orchard, he writes of a
world shackled by a caste system, and he exposes the need for reform. As the title states, the play is set
in a cherry orchard. The play revolves around an aristocratic family and other minor characters, but
the problem is the family is broke. Chekhov uses the symbolic characters memories as a way to
portray the servant , the aristocracy, merchant, and the intelligentsia classes, four of the main cast of
russian society during the early 1900s.
Madame Ranevsky declares, You people ought to go and see plays; you ought to try to see yourselves;
to see what dull life you lead, and how much too much you talk. (22) She is referring to how she went
to see a play and how it reflected her family and the minor characters. This quote is significant
because this is embodiment of what The Cherry Orchard tries to achieve. Chekhov accomplishes this,
using memory as a motif, to delve further into the symbolic characters and their representation of the
four main characters experiences, life struggles, and interactions with other classes in Russian society
in the early 1900s. The use of Firs memories lends the reader a sense of the lost generation. Servants
before the Liberation are named the lost generation because they never experienced life beyond
servitude. Firs says, I ve been

Today s Violence and Its Many Causes
Violence in today s society is at an all time high. There are many causes for the increase in violence in
our society. Violence is defined by (1) criminal law, the illegal use of unjustified force, or the
intimidating effect created by the threat of this (2) the use of physical force to injure somebody or
damage something (Encarta Dictionary: English North American Version). Rape, homicide, assault
and burglary with a weapon are all forms of malicious legal violence that plague our communities in
irrevocable ways. In fact violence in the form of homicide is the second leading cause in youth ages

have been done on the effects of violence in television and movies. The majority of these studies
conclude that: children who watch significant amounts of television and movie violence are more
likely to exhibit aggressive behavior, attitudes and values (Illinois Center for Violence Prevention.
Media and The Changing World Report. May 2005. Page 12). Per the Congressional Public Health
Summit, 2000, young children 1.) are more easily impressionable 2.) have a harder time distinguishing
between fantasy and reality 3.) cannot easily discern motives for violence and 4.) learn by observing
and imitating. Finally there are plenty of studies going on right now researching how violent video
games can cause people to have more aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; and decrease
empathetic, helpful behaviors with peers. With the over stimulation of the brain, it requires children to
go above and beyond the last experience in order to feel the same endorphins. With the need to out do
the next guy and with the motto if it bleeds, it leads , then what do we expect for the next generation
of youth to be faced with?

Parrot Persuasive Speech
If I could be an animal for a day, I would be a parrot. The only animal that can talk is a parrot. Parrots
can talk, are very colorful, and can fly up to 60 MPH. Also, parrots are very intelligent. Soaring above
the tree, talking to people, exploring the outdoors, soaking up the sun, that s what I would do all day
as a parrot. They can fly wherever they want. I would travel to the beach. Most parrots live in tropical
places near a beach, so I will be able to visit the beach all the time. When I m at the beach, I will talk
to people and freak them out! There are approximately 350 species of parrots. However, they all have
curved beaks. Most parrots eat seeds, fruit, flowers, nuts, buds, and some small creatures such as
insects. One of the most colorful parrots is the Scarlet Macaw Parrot. Male and female Macaw are
often red, yellow and blue in color. Parrots are often brightly colored. There are many different types
of parrots, but I want to be a Scarlet Macaw. The colors of parrot s help males attract females. Also,
the color helps camouflage the parrots in the tropical climate. Warm climates are where parrots are

Father And Son Historians, Arthur M. Schlesinger Essay
Father and son historians, Arthur M. Schlesinger and Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr., asked some of the top
historians in the country to rank each president in the categories Great, Near Great, Average, Below
Average, and Failure based on their time in the White House (Schlesinger Jr. 179). The official
ranking lists Andrew Jackson as the fifth best president overall, which landed him a comfortable spot
in the Near Great category. Andrew Jackson s presidency belongs in a much lower category due to his
immoral character, unilateral decision making, and his unimpressive presidency relative to that of
other presidents. Before expanding on the specifics of why Andrew Jackson does not belong in the
Near Great category, the criteria that Andrew Jackson along with other presidents will be analyzed
against needs to be outlined. First, the qualifications of each president are of the utmost importance
when determining presidential greatness. The qualifications of the president are delineated in Article II
of the U.S. Constitution. The president s established qualifications outlined in Article II are as follows:
to be eligible, one must be a natural born citizen of the United States, must have lived in the United
States for at least 14 years, and must be at least 35 years of age (Cornell). Though important, these
qualifications alone would allow almost anyone over the age of 35 to be qualified enough to become
president.

  • 2. Essay on John Keats La Belle Damn Sans Merci Analysis Of all the themes in poetry, one that is most commonly used and stands out quite a lot is love. T. S Elliot once quoted Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion . As such, it is no wonder that the themes of unrequited love and despair are very prominent in poem La Belle Dame sans Merci by John Keats. In this poem Keats clearly denotes his personal rebellion against the pains of love and revealed the sad reality that; in pleasure, there is pain. This paper will take a closer look at one of the most prominent themes in La Belle Dame sans Merci; Love and Despair. The poem begins with a forlorn and heartbroken narrator suffering from both physical and emotional pain, So haggard and woebegone (l 6) who meets a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was all alone and the his expectations of the romance was shattered. It then dawned that his suffering disappointment stemmed from the realization that she never really loved him the way he thought she did. At this point the knight is lonely and hopeless, but he does not show anger towards her. This shows his understanding that in love there is despair. Even though the love he feels for her is pure and true, she did not have the same feelings. The only clues in La Bella Dame sans Merci that depicts whether or not the love felt by the maiden towards the knight is true, comes from the dreams of the knight when he was sleeping. In his dream he comes to the realization that the maiden is pitiless and she has no mercy. His dreams can be interpreted as if the knight subconsciously knew that the love wasn t real and that the maiden had already left him, and his mind has already started shifting the blame towards her. This mentally prepares the knight for the harsh reality that he has to face as he awakes. The dream might just be his rationalization; a way of making her out to be evil in order to cope with the pain of learning his love is unrequited, and in love there is despair. Despair is the state of having lost all hope, of finding oneself unable to believe life will ever be good again. The knight in La Belle Dame sans Merci falls into despair when he learns a relationship that seemed to be just starting has abruptly ended. His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cuban Missile Crisis Analysis The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the Missile Scare, was a 2 week period in October of 1962 that was a result of increasing tensions amongst the United States and the Soviet Union. Tension between the US and the USSR is not new and is known as the Cold War, often stated to be a period between 1945 until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Intelligence gathered over the span of couple months all seemed to lead to the common conclusion that the Soviet s are installing offensive nuclear weapons that will be able to reach continental US in mainland Cuba. The initial spark seemed to be the awfully failed attempt to invade Cuba, also known as the Bay of Pigs invasion under the Kennedy administration, and the presence of American Jupiter Ballistic missiles in Turkey and Italy. What is interesting about the Cuban Missile crisis is how the Kennedy administration confronted the issue. The Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top military officials of the United States pushed for a full on invasion, which could trigger a world wide nuclear war. Kennedy wanted to avoid a full on confrontation, making him seem intelligent but weak . In the film, Thirteen Days, based off the memoir of Robert F. Kennedy, Thirteen Days, where Robert wrote about his point of view of the Cuban Missile Crisis, revealed how complex and mentally demanding it was to resolve and dissipate tensions with the Soviet Union without causing World War III. Photographic intelligence taken by a spy plane going over mainland Cuba revealed about 40 intermediate range ballistic missiles capable of reaching continental United States. There were 3 options; diplomatic talks and international pressure, a blockade, or a full on invasion. The Joint Chiefs of Staff pushed for a full on invasion, meanwhile the Kennedy s pushed for a less aggressive move. EXCOMM, the Executive Committee of the National Security Council composing of the NSC and key advisors the President hand picked, met in the White House during the crisis to discuss how to proceed on the issue. The film revealed how much the Joint Chiefs of Staff disliked Kennedy s methods and how much they wished to act on their own. Nuclear missile tests were conducted independent of the oval office, seen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Make A Wish is one of the most well known charities in the world for giving dying children one last wish and making it come true for them. I remember in middle school one of my friend s brothers had cancer and so his parents reached out to Make A Wish to try and give their son a happy memory that he could cherish for the rest of his life. He wished he could ride in a monster truck so the people at Make A Wish had it arranged and they reached out and asked them to come to the Delta Center which was home to the Utah Jazz but could also house monster trucking. These kids who knew they were going to die were given hope, hope that could hopefully allow them to become healthier. It might seem stupid or gimmicky to older people but to these kids it s all they got in life. Make A Wish grew so rapidly because of this, that they were making tens of thousands of wishes come true each year. Now that we have covered the full history of Make A Wish let s move on to general facts of Make A Wish. To be eligible you must be referred by someone treating the child, a parent or legal guardian, or the children themselves if they are of age. The average cost of granting a wish is $10,130. Make A Wish pays for the full experience including costs of travel because they believe that the parents have enough financial worries. The way Make A Wish makes money for all of this is from mainly donations and foundation grants. This means that normal every day citizens are funding these wishes and could be giving a dying kid their last wish which I think is special. There have been numerous celebrities and stars that participate in Make A Wish. John cena holds the record for Make A Wish at over 500 wishes. Justin Bieber has participated in over 200 wishes and numerous celebrities have done multiple wishes. This is all voluntary so none of these celebrities are forced to do it. • 5. Douglas Adams Writing Style A Guide to the Humorous Galaxy What would you do if your closest friend told you that he or she was an alien and the world was about to blow up in 12 minutes? The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams is about a man named Arthur Dent who sets off on an adventure when his good friend, Ford Prefect, turns out to be an alien and tells him that Earth is about explode. In the novel, Ford helps Arthur escape the destruction of Earth and together they survive in the universe as hitchhikers, with the help of The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, Ford s universal encyclopedia. Throughout the novel, Douglas Adams uses a humorous style to keep the reader engaged as indicated by his diction, characterization, and applied theme. To begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adams humorously depicts each character with his or her own distinctive personality. For instance, he depicts Marvin the robot as depressed when Marvin says, I only have to talk to somebody and they begin to hate me. Even robots hate me. If you ignore me I expect I shall probably go away (214). The way in which Adams jocularly illustrates Marvin s depressed attitude makes it funny. This instance is additionally funny because no one would expect a robot to have any emotions. Another way Adams s characterization reveals his humorous style in this case is the fact that Marvin is so depressed he makes witty remarks that can make one laugh. This characterization is also shown in Zaphod s attitude when he says, If there is anything more important than my ego I want it found and shot now (98). Adams shows Zaphod as a carefree and self centered person who can make some funny decisions. Zaphod also is a character that makes jokes that can make the reader laugh. Arthur s confused personality is yet another example of Adams s use of characterization. This is shown when Arthur says I don t know if this sounds like a silly question, but what am I doing here? (54). Arthur s confused attitude can make him ask laughably dumb questions. Also, Adams makes Arthur, shown as an ordinary human, go on an adventure in a very extraordinary universe, which is entertaining for the audience. • 6. Comparing The Works Of Genji And Lady Akashi In the Tale of Genji, there are various poems that make an appearance, each holding a special meaning for the creator and the recipient. The waka poetry pervades the life of the Heian Court, revealing the character s personality, illuminating their thoughts, and expressing the love and desires they have. Thus giving us, the readers a clarification of the relationships and progression of the characters. To answer the prompt of who would I date based on the poetry, I would say that there is no one in particular I would date. If clouds or smoke in this case has an action attached or shows movement, then it could also symbolize the passing or separation of these lovers. This meaning can be seen in the poem above; thus reminding Genji of his lovers, whether they are alive or dead. The usage of poetry to express a characters interest or their feelings can cause a well of emotions from the readers, possibly because of past experiences or because the situation the character was in is relatable. I can t speak for others, but some of the poems present in the Tale of Genji, and the situation that brought upon that poem, I can relate to and understand why the character felt that way. To quote the poet Robert Frost, poetry ...is a reaching out toward expression; an effort to find fulfillment. A complete poem is one where an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found the words. It is difficult to put feelings into words, because someone else might not share the same feelings, so, once we know the words to use the emotions transform into words that we can then convey to ... • 8. Postmodernism In Post Modernism Post Modernism is a revolutionary era that follows Modernism and developed in mid to late twentieth century. It takes a changed and developed approach across philosophy, art, criticism, and architecture and makes a departure from Modernism. The term Postmodernism is applied to an era that both follows modernity, and also acts as a host of movements that emerged during the era especially in art, music, and literature, marked by the tendencies against modernism. It is more like the rejection of conventional social norms , followed by the Counter culture movement. Counter culture movement spreads massively in Europe and North America during mid 20th century, which is a subculture whose norms of behavior and values substantially differ from those of dominant mainstream society and culture. It explores the fraught relationship of gentleman and amateur naturalist Charles Smithson and Sarah Woodruff, the former governess and independent woman with whom he falls in love. • 9. Why Did The Zapatistas Adopt Indigenous Rights Despite the fact that government s announcement to amend the constitution came in 1992 which was a big issue for the indigenous population, and that they had been experiencing other hardships throughout history, the EZLN did not explicitly make indigenous rights a part of their platform until a year later (Hayden 12). Part of the reason that the Zapatistas adopted this movement could be to gain a stronger support base. The 1990s had already proven to have put emphasis back on questions of indigenous rights back in the minds of people. In 1992 a movement in Latin America took place called the 500 Years of Resistance and author Rigoberta Menchú, who came from an indigenous working class background, being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize that same year (Ross 146). It makes sense then that the EZLN would adopt indigenous rights as one of their objectives. The EZLN did not shed their aims of wanting democracy and their nationalistic tone, but instead started to frame some of these sentiments from an indigenous viewpoint. In 1995 emphasis was beginning to be put on the need for indigenous rights. One of the most visible actions that the EZLN took that signified this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an important factor because people living in these rural communities would not be able to afford Wi Fi when offered if it was not at an affordable rate. This is because most people living in these communities live a life of poverty and simply cannot afford to pay substantial amounts for Internet access. There also seems to be a few choices in setting up a Wi Fi infrastructure in developing nations, including a solar powered communications station. Costs range from $500 per village to $1000 per village to set up a Wi Fi infrastructure, to $2000 for a village wide solar powered communications station. • 14. The Causes And Treatment Of Dialysis DIALYSIS Being one of the eight leading causes of death in the United States, kidney disease is very life threatening. Many people carry on day to day routines with no knowledge of the signs to be aware of when developing kidney failure. The two main causes of kidney failure are high blood pressure and diabetes. For people with kidney failure, options for treatment become dialysis or to receive a kidney transplant. Since the process for a kidney transplant could take years, many people choose to receive dialysis treatment. The process of dialysis serves as a substitute for the kidneys and clinically flushes the blood of any impurities. The process of dialysis evolved in the twentieth century. After watching a man die due to kidney failure, Dr. Willem Kolff (father of dialysis) discovered the first artificial kidney. In 1943, Dr. Kolff s mission to invent the first artificial kidney was a success. During the era, of World War II, the artificial dialyzers helped save many soldier s lives. Because of this great invention, many kidney patients were able to live longer which gave them a greater chance of survival. Because dialysis changed the life expectancy of the patients, many were able to receive transplants. The first kidney transplant was performed in the early 1950 s. Since this invention was created, many technological improvements have come along which is making it possible for the people effected by kidney disease to live long, meaningful lives. Acute renal ... • 15. Preventing Violent Crimes In The United States Violent crimes are unfortunately a routine occurrence among our present society. Violent crimes are those in which an offender uses and/or threatens to use a weapon in order to accomplish their crimes. A violent crime occurs in the United States every 27 seconds (Karmen 78). Violent crimes can end fatally if the offender feels threatened. Many behaviors can be practiced in order to successfully reduce the likelihood of these violent crimes from occurring. 1. The most fatal violent crime is the crime of murder. Murder can occur in many forms: first degree murder, second degree murder, serial murder, spree murder, and mass murder to name a few. The major difference between first and second degree murder includes an offender who commits first degree murder has ultimately planned the murder, while second degree murder is ultimately spontaneous. Additionally, serial murder includes killings of 3 or more people within separate emotional events. On the other hand, spree murder and mass murder are singular emotional events however spree murder is the killing of multiple people in a number of locations while mass murder is the killing of multiple people in one singular location. Factors that may increase the chance of a person becoming a victim includes the victim being male (Davis, Lurigio, and Herman, 135). • 17. Black Swan Analysis Using Oral Conventions in Black Swan to Expose Mental Turmoil Darren Aronofsky s Black Swan, showcases Nathalie Portman as Nina Sayers, a member of a prestigious dance company where she faces external and internal pressures to be the elite. In the NYC dance company, Nina struggles to maintain the lead role. The constant mental instability consumes her, leading to her downfall. Orals have the power to intensify a performance, and they can allow for insight on a person s thoughts and troubles. Visual conventions work alongside and help support oral conventions to successfully present both a rhetorical message and experience. Oral conventions such as speed and length, volume and tone set by instruments parallel and portray Nina s monstrous characteristics of a constant rush of conflicts resulting in an unstable mentality. Composer, Clint Mansell, was the former lead singer of the band, Pop Will Eat Itself. He debuted his film scoring in the film Pi and then worked alongside director, Darren Aronofsky to compose the soundtrack to Black Swan. Clint Mansell was inspired by Tchaikovsky when he created the instrumental pieces. Mansell relates with the desire to move forward, change, and become the things you d really really love to be (Acharya). He was able to portray this mental state because he acknowledges that in today s world you identify with that double edged sword, of really wanting to achieve things and do your best, while realising that there s a bit of an ache to the other parts of your life (Acharya). He experiences the hardships of trying to perfect his work in the music industry. Mansell personally resonates with the theme of confusion that Black Swan carries enabling him to create a relatable and raw soundtrack. In 2010, this film was released to a modern society where individuals suffer from diagnosed psychological illnesses. Constant pressures of school, work, and balancing a healthy life can cause physical, emotional, and mental harm, transforming an individual s sanity to complete insanity. This medium allows for an audience to be able to relate to the concept of feeling in constant turmoil with oneself. For example, you deposit $100 in a bank that pays a 10% annual interest rate but credits interest each 6 months. But being a role model is not an easy task, although Lupe makes it look that way when she doesn t even fit in. In the story, The Marble Champ, by Gary Soto, Lupe is a very good role model. Lupe shows this by being a good sport, always working hard, and by being intelligent. One reason why I think Lupe is a good role model is because she is very intelligent. As proof, Lupe s academic grades are straight A s. This shows that Lupe is intelligent because not many people get straight A s on their report card every year of school. Secondly, Lupe is intelligent because she has won multiple awards. For example, Lupe won the school spelling bee, she won the blue ribbon award in the science fair, she was the winner of a reading contest at the library three summers in a row, she was also the top student in her piano recital, and she was the playground champion of chess. Talk about a ton of awards, right? Lupe feels like none of these awards mean anything though. Lupe wishes she could win some type of award in athletics, so that she can keep up with the other girls in her school, that s why Lupe is working towards her goal of being the marble champion. Also, in one case in the story, when Lupe was playing marbles on her bed, she figured out that her bedspread was slowing down the marbles as she shot them. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main key aspects to the Spanish victory, is that the Spanish were viewed as gods at first because of their appearance, the Aztecs welcomed the Spanish with gifts and festivities, which showed the Spanish had total control of people. Nevertheless, as you know, weedeaters trims weeds where lawnmowers cannot. Another question I had was this: Would you use a weedeater to trim your flower bed? In the days of Jesus a weed called tares grew alongside the wheat, and in their early growth stages, it was difficult to differentiate between the two. If you plucked the tares you would also destroy some wheat. It was only at harvest time that you could clearly differentiate between the two (Matthew 13:24 30). Although some want a Church with no weeds, the Church is made up of broken, fallen people: Yes, people like you and I. The beauty of it is that God gracefully accepts us and we gracefully accept one another; yet, some want to weed the Church and the world before God does. In the 1500s, Sen No Rikkyu embraced the ideas of simplicity. He developed a tea ritual that comprised of no wasted movement and no unneeded objects. Instead of using expensive imported utensils, Rikkyu made tea in a thatched hut simply using an iron kettle, a plain container for tea, a tea scoop, a whisk made from bamboo, and a common rice bowl for drinking the tea. • 45. The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov Anton Chekhov, like Henrik Ibsen, is considered a prominent writer on culture and society. Chekhov s works are noteworthy, in part, because of the lives they portray. In The Cherry Orchard, he writes of a world shackled by a caste system, and he exposes the need for reform. As the title states, the play is set in a cherry orchard. The play revolves around an aristocratic family and other minor characters, but the problem is the family is broke. Chekhov uses the symbolic characters memories as a way to portray the servant , the aristocracy, merchant, and the intelligentsia classes, four of the main cast of russian society during the early 1900s. Madame Ranevsky declares, You people ought to go and see plays; you ought to try to see yourselves; to see what dull life you lead, and how much too much you talk. (22) She is referring to how she went to see a play and how it reflected her family and the minor characters. This quote is significant because this is embodiment of what The Cherry Orchard tries to achieve. Chekhov accomplishes this, using memory as a motif, to delve further into the symbolic characters and their representation of the four main characters experiences, life struggles, and interactions with other classes in Russian society in the early 1900s. The use of Firs memories lends the reader a sense of the lost generation. Servants before the Liberation are named the lost generation because they never experienced life beyond servitude. Andrew Jackson s presidency belongs in a much lower category due to his immoral character, unilateral decision making, and his unimpressive presidency relative to that of other presidents.
