North Kingstown Local Culture
Our trip to North Kingstown brought us throughout various parts of the town, such as Quonsset point,
Wickford, and the Gilbert Stuart Museum. As a whole, the demographics of North Kingstown are very
similar to Cumberland, with high populations of Irish, English, and Italians. Throughout the town,
these nationalities reflect in both popular and folk culture. Irish descendants make up 25.8% of North
Kingstown s population, reflected in local restaraunts such as Fat Belly s pub, Roman Catholic
Churches such as Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, and names such as Hamilton
Elementary school. Fat Belly s Pub serves traditional irish cuisine such as potatoes and corned beef,
displaying both pop culture (uniform), and folk culture (traditional ... Show more content on

This became a haven for local artists after the founding of the Wickford Art Assossciation (in North
Kingstown). Throughout the town, in restaraunts and stores, artwork created by local artists can be
found. The main road through wickford village, Main Street, is full of historic buildings. Nowadays,
these buildings are home to many local businesses, showing how pop culture and folk culture interact.
Though the buildings are an example of the folk culture brought over by early settlers, the modern
businesses in them demonstrate folk culture. In addition to local pop culture, national and international
companies also have locations in North Kingstown. They represent uniform landscape, as these stores
are comparable to ones found elsewhere, providing consumers both local and tourists a sense of
farmiliarity. For example, chains such as McDonalds and Starbucks can be found in North Kingtown,
but almost identical restaraunts can also be found all over the world. Overall both pop and folk culture
influence can be found throughout North Kingstown. The great majority of European descendants and
the town s proximity to the ocean reflect in local food, architecture, religion, and business

The Role Of Prayer In Public Schools
Throughout the United States, the religious rights of students are frequently being pushed to the side.
The majority of the religious rights being threatened belong to non believers. Conservatives often
argue that it is a student s and teacher s right to pray in public schools, trying to persuade the
American public that they are truly concerned about the rights of the students. However, in all reality,
they truly do not care about the religious rights, but instead they care about power. Charles C. Haynes,
director of the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute, said it like this, If these fights and
lawsuits were only about the right of kids to pray in school, advocates of school prayer would have
declared victory and gone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christians claimed in their argument that as long as a specific divine being is not mentioned in the
prayer said at school it does not violate the Establishment Clause; however, that is not the case. Many
religions do not believe a specific being or believe in praying to any type of divine being. Therefore,
praying in public schools, even not mentioning God, is still in violation of the Establishment Clause
due to the religions that believe in nothing. Secondly, one of their strongest arguments was that moral
decline in public schools was due to the absence of prayer. When they make the statement that the rate
of pregnancies, drug busts, and fights in public school systems are inclining due to the absence of
prayer they are committing a logical fallacy. They are making a rather bold statement when saying that
since prayer has been taking out of schools, the rate of teenage pregnancies has steadily rose. This is a
false analogy, also known as the cause and effect fallacy. They assume that since one thing occurred
(prayer being removed from schools) has caused another event to occur (rise of immorality in
schools). With this argument, they went too far and completely lose their credibility. They cannot
assume or expect the American public to believe that the absence of

Sun Tzu Theory In The Horn Of Africa
Sun Tzu s Theory in the Horn of Africa s Security Challenge
Introduction
The greater Horn of Africa (HoA) is the sub region of the Eastern part of Africa that composed of
Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda. Threats to peace and
security are interconnected and comprised various human insecurities that emanate from both
intrastate and interstate conflict, and transnational security threats such as terrorism. This is because
political, social, and security problems in the region further threaten development efforts and
complicate interventions to alleviate, the various related challenges of the region. Mainly, Terrorism
has been a source of serious security challenge to the Horn of Africa peace and development process.
As terrorism is the main security challenge of the Horn of Africa region, Sun Tzu s theory is relevant
in the war with terrorist organizations operated in the greater Horn of Africa. For these countries could
helpful in curbing the terrorist threat, if they examine Sun Tzu s theory offensive strategy according to
the existing context of the terrorist threat. The offensive strategy first should focus on attacking the
terrorist s strategy, and then their allies because the main strength of the terrorist is the strategy they
follow. Giving priority on attacking the terrorist s strategy would eliminate fertile ground for terrorist
organizations motive. Therefore, this paper will evaluate, and analyze Sun Tzu s theory such

Slaughterhouse Five, By Billy Pilgrim
assumed that Billy Pilgrim relives his war time experiences on a near daily basis. Another thing is that
Billy avoids connections with people like his mother, and even his own fiancé.
The conclusion of this analysis as a whole must therefore be that Billy Pilgrim became unstuck in time
(in his own world) due to the events of which he witnessed and/or participated in during World War II.
The horror of what was occurring around him, and due to the confusion he felt during the occurrence
of these events, his entire mental state degraded to the point where he became locked in viewing the
past over and over indefinitely, and into helping himself believe his delusion that he was often taken
from the earth to another strange planet he felt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, it may be concluded that Billy, due to the effects of having been a POW, and having
been witness to the full magnitude of destruction of the city that had no reason to be destroyed,
suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which lead him to review the events over and over
during the course of his life in different forms and memories. In order to understand how these drastic
factors, the destruction of the city Dresden and PTSD , came to make Billy Pilgrim unstuck in time,
one must analyze and look over the circumstances surrounding those same events. He is clearly
suffering from PTSD with the symptoms of flashbacks about the events he went through in his past,
his relationships with people aren t strong and seem forced, and he collides memories with reality.
The human mind is a complicated part of the body which current day science knows little about.
Trigger mechanisms, and/or other factors within the brain are relatively unknown to current humanity
with all of its complexions. Therefore, in order to produce a valid diagnostic on why Billy Pilgrim
became unstuck in time (according to the first chapter), the reader of Slaughterhouse Five must come
to copping with situations concerning the experiences he went through described in the novel. Billy
starts out, chronologically, as a fairly basic infantryman as a part of the United States Army during the
last Nazi offensive of the war (World

Figurative Language In Devil In The White City
In the novel The Devil in the White City written by Erik Larson, he entails there is a constant war
between good and evil in Chicago 1893, each battle won is a life being made, or slaughtered There are
two wolves battling us all right now.... One s good, the other is evil. If you re wondering which wolf
inside will succeed, simple, it s the one that you feed... by Ronnie Radke. Larson paints the white city
s atmosphere as preppy, educated, society that consists of architects like Daniel Burnham, while the
black city portrays a bleak, poverty, society that consists of the serial killer H. H. Holmes. The reader
experiences a journey between heaven and hell throughout the entirety of the novel, a dream like
euphoria in the white city, and the nightmare like misery for the black. The difference between the two
contradicting cities is so great that Larson switches the perspective of the serial killer, H. H. Holmes,
and the genius architect, Daniel Burnham, throughout the book; painting this image to portray these
differences in the white and black cities by using juxtaposition, figurative language, and imagery. H.
H. Holmes travels into the white city, leaving the bleak city frozen in place, Larson uses figurative
language to reveal how Holmes starts to convert the white city into a kingdom of his own by seeing
beauty and grace in some of the most disturbing scenarios. The comparison of Julia s (Holmes
mistress) murder to a ballet explains that Holmes sees death as a type of

Just like what I discuss in last section, to train employees with professional skills and ethical thoughts
are the same important criteria. In cloud computing era, everyone is given more or less permissions or
access of company information stored in cloud system. How to deal with such information is an
interesting part. Although employees will sign a confidentiality contract with company, it is not for
sure that every employee will keep the standards stated in confidentiality contract. So employees with
permission to touch company information would be the first risk factor in cloud computing. The
second risk factor in this case would be the information technology staff. The company of our size
have suffered cyber attacks almost every day, an employee of JP Morgan Chase, Patricia Wexler, said
in an email. Enterprises are vulnerable to hacker attacks from multiple sources. After scanning
network of JP Morgan, computer security researchers discovered a malicious software that could steal
sensitive data in JP Morgan Hong Kong and India office. The researchers also found that, in July
2014, JP Morgan s Hong Kong office network infected malware Zeus Trojan, which can steal banking
credentials. In addition, JP Morgan India office website was also found to be infected by computer

Organizational Change Organizational Change Management is all of the actions required for an
organization to understand, prepare for, implement and take full advantage of significant change . The
goals of Change Management are: * The successful design, implementation, measurement and
maintenance of an organization s change initiative * Enhancement of their on going capacity for
managing change Lewin s force field analysis model states that all systems have driving and

Vision At The Blind And Visually Impaired
Vision is defined as the sense by which objects in the external environment are perceived by means of
the light they give off or reflect (Saunders, 2007). Vision is very a significant aspect in human life. If
an individual is visually impaired, it will cause other developmental delays in that individual including
the sensory, motor, cognitive, social and language developments (Texas School for the Blind and
Visually Impaired, n.d.). It is already well known that infants are not born with perfect vision. They
only achieve vision close to adult maturity by about six months after birth. There are a lot of aspects
of vision in infants that undergoes development such as contrast sensitivity function, acuity
perception, motion perception, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, by knowing how colour vision differs in infants and adults, if we find out that an infant
does not have colour vision that works the same way as adults, then even if the test has been adapted
for infants, it still cannot be used.
FPL chromatic discrimination paradigm is used for examining colour vision in infants. From
experiments conducted using FPL chromatic discrimination paradigm, it is proven that colour vision
of infants improve significantly between 1 and 3 months of age (Brown, 1990). In a review paper by
Brown (1990), it is stated that infants at 3 to 4 weeks of age generally have poor ability to discriminate
colours. However, when long wavelength lights are used, the result is vague. Most experiments result
in infants at 1 month of age failing to distinguish the stimulus when it comes to using long wavelength
light. Having said that, there are a few reported infants that could discriminate successfully. As for
infants over 2 months old, it is clear that half of them could make some chromatic discriminations.
At 3 months of age, based on the several studies mentioned by Brown (1990), most of the infants can
already make chromatic discriminations. Hence, it is concluded that they have colour vision to a
certain degree as they might not necessarily be trichromats nor have the colour vision of an adult.

Bias In Health Care
The most important piece of information that I learned is that the description of bias in research is, a
deviation from the true results and there is almost no way to avoid it. Bias happens when there is an
underlying factor continuously deforms the new findings of a study (EVIDENCE BASED
PRACTICE: What is bias in health research?, 2009).
Even in a study done by incorporating as much randomness as possible, there is bound to be some
bias. Random bias would always be present, as human beings aren t omnipotent with the ability to
control everything. In a method, that is as much protected from bias as possible, like a triple blind
study, where the experimenter, test subjects, and the monitoring committee are oblivious to each other,

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Renting A Coper Rentals
Virtually all offices have copier machines that employees use for their daily maneuvers. However,
maximum of these businesses do not categorically purchase their own machines. Rather, they just rent
copier machines from other firms. What makes copier rentals so prevalent? Is it actually a superior
option than buying your own copier unit? The answer for maximum businesses is yes, there are lots of
advantages when opting for copier rentals than essentially purchasing a unit for their workplace.
At the outset, if you purchase your own copier machine or even toner cartridge, you will have the
solitary accountability of maintenance, overhauls and other such errands that could take a lot of your
valued time and effort. If you use a copier machine on rent, you will have enormously less
apprehension about these problems. Maximum copier rental supplier or firms offer free service and
maintenances to their clienteles. When your copier machine breakdowns, all you have to do is contact
the copier rental firm and they will offer repair assistance for free or for a very minimal amount. ...

incorporated when your unit is delivered. Copiers have diverse features and you may have a hard

you are used to. Maximum rental companies will be cheerful to walk you through the features of your
rented copier. So, if you were thinking about purchasing a machine and your budget is not adequate,
remember that you can always use copier rentals. They may be more economical for your business.
Since the copiers are leased out to countless different firms, it is vital to ensure that the machines are
in good shape before signing any contracts for them so that you can sidestep lots of trouble that can

##enton And Brenton In A Lesson Before Dying And Murder On...
Could crimes be unfairly decided depending on evidence and how it is presented to the court? In fact,
this happens regularly. This results in many people being falsely convicted of a crime which they
never committed. However, the evidence and how it is presented to a jury can change the final
decision. There are several significant similarities and differences between A Lesson Before Dying
and Murder on a Sunday Morning. These include the way the men were treated while on trial, what
type of crime they were accused of, as well as the final decision of the court. The treatment of both
Jefferson in A Lesson Before Dying and Brenton in Murder on a Sunday Morning are very similar.
This is primarily due to the fact that they are both young, black men. First of all, they already had been
accused of the crime due to their race and the negative perspective people tend to have towards
African Americans. Not only that, but they were both referred to as niggers by those working on the
court cases which could also be considered derogatory. Also, they both had their arms and legs in
chains for a large portion of the time in jail when awaiting the trial since they were both deemed
dangerous due to the type of crime they committed. Lastly, Jefferson and Brenton were thoroughly
interrogated and questioned about their relation to the crime and what information they could provide
about it. Given this information, it is clear that A Lesson Before Dying and Murder on a Sunday
Morning had

An Analysis Of Baby Kochamman In The God Of Small Things
An antagonist can be defined as someone or something that is put in the story to oppose the
protagonist or to cause problems that need to be overcome. Throughout the story, every character in
one way or another causes problems, as the story emphasizes that nobody is perfect. The Orangedrink
Lemondrink man could be an antagonist as he causes Estha great emotional turmoil and traumatizes
him. Ammu and Velutha could be antagonists because if they hadn t had the affair then maybe Velutha
wouldn t be dead and the children wouldn t have been separated and maybe, just maybe, Sophie Mol
wouldn t have drowned in the river. Chacko could also be an antagonist as he kicks Ammu out of the
house which eventually results in the separation of the twins. However, one character, in particular,
Baby Kochamma, in every part of the story, not only does she cause problems, she causes problems
for everyone. Baby Kochamma causes problems for Rahel and Estha, for Ammu, for Velutha, for the
police, and even makes Chacko more miserable and angry, eventually leading him to force Ammu to
leave. Baby Kochamma continually manipulates the characters in the story into doing what she wants
to get herself out of trouble. Foreshadowing the main conflict and also the climax in The God of Small
Things, Baby Kochamma says, in relation to Velutha, That man will be our nemesis (Roy 175).

Curley s Wife Quotes
When reading the novel Of Mice and Men, you may notice that Curley s wife is never given a name. I
think that she doesn t have a name because she is a woman in the 1930s, she doesn t really belong on
the ranch, and she is considered a nobody. Throughout the book, we see examples of how she is
mistreated.
This book takes place around the 1930s, when women didn t have as many rights as they do now.
They were expected to stay in the house and take care of the family. Since Curley and the boss are the
only real family Curley s wife has, she is left a lot of time to herself. Back then, women were often put
down and seen as unimportant. Whenever Curley s wife visits the bunkhouse, the ranch workers are
quick to tell her to leave. At the beginning, Steinbeck portrays her as, what the guys call, a tart. Candy
said, I seen her give Slim the eye...An I seen her give Carlson the eye (Steinbeck 28). This makes the
ranch workers wary of talking to her because of their fear of what Curley would do. Her appearance
does not help the misconceptions the ranch workers have about her. While talking about her, John
Steinbeck writes, She had full, rouged lips and wide spaced eyes, heavily made up. Her fingernails

The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath Research Paper Title
The Bell Jar place[s] [the] turbulent months[of an adolescent s life] in[to] mature perspective (Hall,
30). In The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath uses parallelism, stream of consciousness, the motif of renewal and
rebirth, symbolism of the boundary driven entrapped mentally ill, and auto biographical details to
epitomize the mental downfall of protagonist, Esther Greenwood. Plath also explores the idea of how
grave these timeless and poignant issues can affect a fragile, aspiring woman during an unforgiving
period for women.

The Bell Jar traps Esther stewing in her own sour air (Plath, 185). Esther is and forever will be an
outcast; the bell jar symbolizes the physical separation between her and society. Esther emotionally
cannot cope harmoniously with societal norms (Infobase, 12). Her repulsion of others causes her to
prefer to live a life seclusion. This glass barrier suffocates Esther causing her own madness to ensue.
Jars, specifically the bell jar, are clear. This allows society to peer through and scrutinize Esther and
her every flaw. Esther entrapped herself in a toxic environment which, to her, seems almost impossible
to escape. Once Esther escapes the bell jar, it remains suspended , only a few feet above [her] head ,
contributing an imminent thought of relapse (Plath 215).
Esther undergoes shock therapy in an effort to magically cure her; Esther begins emerging from an
enlightened womb. Esther s renewal parallels that of a newborn infant; this common literary motif of
transforming into the unknown for the better pinpoints Esther during her troubled hours. After a
turbulent period of questionable shock treatments, Esther seems to have entered a cured state (Smith
Bundzten, 35). Esther is, in a sense, reborn again. She is born twice patched, retreaded, and approved
for the road (Plath, 244). Her experiences have allowed to become stronger and gain stability

approximately thirteen million skateboarders in the U.S alone. These are really shocking numbers that
the average everyday person wouldn t know, or care about. But when one of the thirteen million
skaters who don t have a place to skate come and skates in front of their store, suddenly they care. In
Nacogdoches this is a real problem, and I have personally observed skaters getting told to leave

doing something that they may not have done, but at the time there the one taking the blame. There are
many respectable skaters who love to skate and don t do anything wrong. But there are also
irresponsible skaters, who care whether or not they mess something up or break it. For all these
reasons I think that if there was to be a skate park built here in Nacogdoches it would greatly alleviate
many of these problems. People are going to skate whether people like it or not. But with a skate park,
the community would have more control over were these people do there skating. As well as this it
would allow the parents of their younger skaters to not have to worry as much about were their child
is. The park would be new and clean, in addition it would provide a safe environment to skate in.
Moreover it would help attract people to come skate, who would otherwise not want to deal with the
problems skating on the streets bring. From people I have talked to in the past there are a few things
that they would be concerned about if there was a skate park in our town. These problems consist of:
graffiti, vandalism, drug use, and negative influences.
My answer to this these problems is first off,

Foster Care System Essay
The Foster Care System: Doing More Harm Than Good? Often when identifying problems within the
child welfare system, only the very surface level issues get scratched: too many children having to
enter, not enough willing foster families, and non adequate staffing. However there are problems that
are much more serious and often looked past. The foster care system faces various problems including
the developmental and mental health issues that affect children and the struggles teenagers encounter
once they age out of the system. With innovative new plans like intensive training for workers and
foster families to create communities of support and establishing a system of prolonged and
permanent health attention, these problems could be fixed. Children enter the foster care system for a
multitude of different reasons, some being, poverty, substance abuse, domestic violence, and their
parents being convicted of crimes and being sent to jail ( The Future of Children ). All of these reasons
listed lead to significant developmental issues for many children. The first five years of any child s life
is a crucial period for development both intellectually and physically, and development continues until
around the age of fourteen years old. Many of the children enter the foster care system during this
crucial phase which causes, according to Brenda Jones Harden, impairments in their physical health,
cognitive development, academic achievement, interpersonal relationships, and mental

Analysis Of Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Animal Farm was written by George Orwell in 1945. The book reflects events leading up to the
Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. Animal farm
includes use of propaganda as well. A quote for example would be some animals are equal but some
are more equal than others. I think that this book fits that quote very well as the author makes
Napoleon along with Snowball are the leaders of the rebellion against Jones. A few questions that
come to mind are, how does one define one animal being more equal than others? Why is a certain
animal favored over the others? Why are there two leaders of the same animal and not two different
ones? Why are two pigs picked as the leader? I feel that this book ... Show more content on

This theme in Animal Farm can also be looked as people being equal, but some are more equal than
others because sometimes that is how certain people see others. Just because they re different they don
t get the same treatment as others. My argument is for everyone and every animal being equal. The
leaders Napoleon and Snowball do not take the role in treating the other animals equally. Boxer, the
horse works harder than anyone else and is not treated as well as the other animals. He was not first in
the rate of intelligence, but he was university respected for his steadiness of character, and tremendous
power of work. These are great qualities for a horse, but as it turns out not such great qualities for a
revolutionary under Stalin s government. He works harder for others but still is treated unequally. His
self motto is I will work harder. Comparing the animals to one another because they re different is like
comparing a black human being with a white human being. They may look different from everyone
else but does that mean they should be voted out of doing something because of it? No it does not. I
believe that everyone is the same no matter their race, religion, sexuality, anything about them that
will put them out in a different group. Just because something is different about them doesn t mean
they should be excluded from doing certain

Physical and Chemical Changes Essay

Physical and chemical changes lab essay
Changes in matter occur every day. There are two types of ways matter can be altered; physically and
chemically. Physical changes do not change the composition of the matter while chemical changes
occur when one or more substances turn into a completely new substance. Physical changes can be
seen through an altering of the substances physical property. A substances physical property is
observed and measured without changing the composition of the subject. Descriptive words that
would help to identify a substance s physical property include hard, soft, brittle, flexible, heavy, and
light just to name a few. When an object goes through a physical change it ... Show more content on

The relationship of reactants and products is shown by a chemical equation. An example of a chemical
change that one could come into contact with daily is rust. Air and iron are the reactants in this
situation while rust is the product. The chemical equation for this reaction would look roughly like
this, O+FE= OFE or rust. This is clearly a chemical change because you cannot reverse it meaning
you cannot take rust and pull out the iron to leave air or vise versa. All chemical changes are finite.
One other example of a chemical change is the burning of any substance. For example if one were to
burn a sheet of paper it would create ash. This chemical change is finite because you cannot change
ash back into paper. Another term to remember when considering changes chemical and physical is
the law of conservation of mass. This law simply means that matter can neither be created nor
destroyed. Two other terms that are important when describing the properties of substances
undergoing changes are extensive and intensive properties. An intensive property is a physical
property of a substance that does not depend upon its size such as viscosity. Extensive properties
however do depend on a substance s size such as mass and volume. A few more important terms to
keep in mind when doing a lab with chemical and physical changes are

Double Consciousness In Toni Morrison s Beloved
W.E.B. DuBois defines double consciousness as not only looking at one s self through their own eyes
but also through the eyes of others. This is an interesting way of looking at life because it applies to all
cases. While one lives life, there will always be that thought of what the other person is thinking about
one s self. This is also the case for Sethe in the novel Beloved written by Toni Morrison because Sethe
s action can be interpreted in many ways depending on the perspective. Sethe killed Beloved so
Beloved didn t have to endure slavery, worries and takes close care of Denver, and goes to work on a

Comparing the Beloved in Shakespeare s Sonnet 20 and...
Comparing the Beloved in Shakespeare s Sonnet 20 and Sonnet 130
In the hands of a master such as Shakespeare, the conventions of the sonnet form are manipulated and
transformed into something unique and originally emphasized. Both sonnets in one way or another
subvert the conventions of the base Petrarchan sonnet; though they are about love, the traditional topic
of sonnets, whilst in Sonnet 20 the object of desire is unattainable and there is no evidence of the level
of affection being requited, the target is male, and the target of the poet s affections in Sonnet 130 is
the poetic voice s current mistress. It also seems important to note that love in neither of these cases is
of the generic youthful female Aryan stereotype, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poetic voice s mistress is of nature; no supernal gifts are hers. It is even strongly indicated that she
is beneath the highest forms of beauty nature has to offer (her eyes are nothing like the sun , coral is
far more red than her lips, no roses see I in her cheeks .) But this is to stray beyond the confines of the
original subject, the rest of the verse argues, because the love the voice has for its lover is as rare as
any other; beauty does not have to draw such clichéd parallels with nature to be thought of in the mind
of a lover as surpassing everything around it. In reference to this repeated theme, in the introduction to
the Penguin Classics printing of the Sonnets (though in reference specifically to sonnet 84), editor
John Kerrigan concludes:
Which hyperbolic poet , Shakespeare asks, which most sayer, can exceed this sublime truism, that you
alone are you . For you comprise the only things which, in honesty, you can be compared with .
This sonnet serves to invoke a strong sense of realism in love, arguing that as strong an intensity of
emotion as may be held, may be held, without the need for delusions of grandeur, taking the view that
trying to reconcile two essentially different and diverse things as equal is to do true justice to neither.
The beloved in this case thus represents more the need for a character developed to challenge
stereotype than an actual real life woman,

The Causes Of Human Growth And The Endocrine System
In mammals, we find that the body requires certain systems to function properly and effectively in
order to grow. The endocrine system is one of the physiological systems that primarily regulates
growth and plays a vital role in the onset of post natal growth as well as the onset and cessation of
pubertal growth. There are also other contributors such as nutrition and genetics, etc. that influence
these growth patterns. The endocrine system is a vital messaging system that relies completely on
hormone delivery to specific cells. The medium of this delivery is the blood in the venous system
which means that the hormones secreted can reach target cells often located far from the endocrine
glands; this is an efficient method as the endocrine system regulates activities that require duration
rather than speed. This efficient system means that homeostasis can be maintained. As the hormones
are distributed in the blood through the venous system, this results in the whole body being exposed to
these hormones and therefore the fact that only the target cells have specific binding receptors for the
particular hormone means that only those target cells will respond to the exposure of the hormone.
Once the hormone is bound to its specific target cell receptors, a chain of events within the target cells
occurs that brings about the hormones final effect. (Sherwood, 2016)

Joseph Stalin s Use Of Sexism In Russia
Crude, primitive, vulgar ; muddle instead of music ; a cacophonous and pornographic insult to the
Soviet people . Pravda, the Soviet government newspaper, made these comments after Joseph Stalin
attended a 1936 performance of Dmitri Shostakovich s opera. His second and final opera, Lady
Macbeth of Mtsensk, got it him into all sorts of trouble because it denounced sexism in Russia. After
this intense criticism from the government and threats of arrest, Shostakovich was forced to withdraw
the premiere of his equally controversial Fourth Symphony. In order to please the government, he
quickly put together a more traditional, triumphant Fifth Symphony (1937); he even referred to it as a
Soviet artist s reply to just criticism.

ShowTime events have subsequently outgrown some of their information management practices, total

The speaker the many of Spring and All is a man from an older generation. This can be verified in
lines 5 6 and 12 13, where it states, muddy fields/ brown with dried weeds/ dead, brown leaves/
leafless vines . Many see this poem s speaker as an older man because he uses a small vocabulary
when describing the dead, brown leaves in line 12. In line 1 2 it implies By the road to the contagious
hospital/ under the surge of the blue . So in line two when it states under the surge of the blue in many
people s eyes it looks like the poem is meant for an older generation because of the vast vocabulary
the speaker uses. In the same poem Spring and All the attitude toward the subject of the poem that the
speaker conveys is rough as they explain how the outside looks cold and uncertain before spring
enters the new world. Evidence of this is in lines 16 19 where it says They enter the new world naked,/
cold, uncertain of all/ save that they enter. All about them/ the cold familiar wind . Many people would
also say that the author wrote this poem to explain what spring looks like when approaching and how
it looks like a disaster before spring blooms into the new world. In lines 24 27 it shows how the birth
of spring looks like a disaster by stating But now the stark dignity of/ entrance still, the profound/ has

The Role Of Carbon Capture And Storage On Climate Change...
The role of carbon capture and storage in climate change mitigation
Why the interest in CCS?
As anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions increase atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations, the
resulting climate system warming poses an increasingly serious environmental challenge. According
to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), it is now very likely that these emissions
are responsible for most of the recent measured global average surface temperature increase, totalling
about 0.65?C or 0.10 0.16?C per decade between 1956 and 2005 (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change (IPCC), 2007). As shown in Figure 1.1, equilibrium global temperatures depend on the
concentration of atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions (ibid). Rising global temperatures increase the
risk of extreme changes in the climate and impacts natural systems supporting water availability,
species habitat, and food production.
A significant global reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is required to limit these risks and impacts
((IPCC), Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2007); (National Research Council, 2011). In
particular, there is some consensus that this warming should be limited to 2?C above pre industrial
levels (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 2007); (National Acadamy of Science,
2011), requiring an 80% 85% decrease in global CO2 emissions by mid century (Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 2007) . If these goals to reduce the risks associated

Biblical Themes In Dante s Inferno
Torremaggiore, Italy, in 1250, Frederick II, dies as the last truly powerful Holy Roman Emperor.
Florence, Italy, 1266, the Guelfs invade the city which puts an end to Ghibelline power. Following the
division of the Guelf party into the Whites the party of supporters of independence from papal control
and the Blacks the supporters of Pope Boniface VIII, the later regain control of Florence and exile the
White supporter, Dante Alighieri in 1302. For the remaining years of his life, Alighieri traveled around
Italy while writing his masterpiece, The Comedy. Of this trilogy the most popular work was Inferno
where he depicts an allegorical journey through Hell in which he encounters many of his political
enemies. Though Dante was a supporter of independence from Papal control, he was a very religious
man and many of those Biblical themes arise in Inferno. In his epic poem, Dante Alighieri expels his
wrath against his enemies, once friends turned foes, political and biblical, and real and not real, with
the most extreme divine justice. Modern politics is well associated with the famous slogan of the
separation of Church and State . Though the effects of religion on the founding of governments of

Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
How Effectively Does McCarthy Create a
Sense of What a Post Apocalyptic
World Would be Like?
Cormac McCarthy creates a sense of what a post apocalyptic society in the novel The Road . He does
this by including dreams, description of the physical landscape and human behaviour. This helps
create a sense of a post apocalyptic world because it gives us insight into what it looks like and how
the people think.
McCarthy uses dreams as a recurring theme throughout the text in order to create his post apocalyptic
world. The novel opens with a dream, in which the author creates a monster. The author uses dreams
to create a contrast between a perfect dream world and the cold, dark terrifying world that the
characters live in now. Its bowels, its beating heart. The brain that pulsed in a dull glass bell . This
could be the author creating a metaphor for the horror that the characters are about to face throughout
the book.
Towards the middle of the book the man says that The right dreams for a man in peril were dreams of
peril and all else was the call of languor and death. He dreamt of walking in a flowering wood where
birds flew before them... but he was learning how to wake himself from such siren worlds... with the
uncanny taste of a peach from some phantom orchard fading in his mouth... The father feels this
because his reality and his life are so terrible, he can only have perilous dreams because if he were to

Vizcarrondo illustrates the behavioral leadership theory. How a leader behaves is reflected in the
company s success or failure. There are two types of behaviors: attention to tasks and attention to

this describes initiating structure.
Strengths
One of Vizcarrondo s strengths is that his goal is to create a global company. He outlined his plans for

Woman played a crucial role in the building blocks of the western mystique but they were often
excluded from the mystique. Their role as homemakers and guardians of morals and culture on the
frontier is undeniable, and female pioneers lives were not as dramatic as the western males.
Understandably, pioneer women also faced loneliness and despair more frequently than men did, and
their mortality rate was higher due to the fact they had more boundaries and limitations. Woman
focused on relationships and maintaining stability during a crisis. Which was far different from a male
point of focus. Although both High Noon by Fred Zinnemann and Madonna of the Prairie by William
Koerner convey the Western life of a pioneer woman, Director Fred Zinnemann depicts a western
woman who breaks away from western morals and values to do the right thing, whereas Artist William
Koerner depicts an authentic pioneer woman who stays within her morals as a western woman.
In the film High Noon by Fred Zinnemann, Will Kane finds himself personally compelled to duel his
enemy Frank Miller when he realizes the townspeople of Hadleyville turned cowardly when the time
came for a showdown. Will Kane and Frank miller and his bandits duel with their guns outside as
everyone hides away from the bullets. Amy Kane peeks out her window to get glimpses of how her
groom battling the unlawful criminal; She cannot handle watching her groom participate in the
dangerous showdown alone. She handles her handgun in

Harding s Standpoint Epistemology And Haraway Analysis
Views from Somewhere: Subjectivities and Knowledge Production in
Harding s Standpoint Epistemology and Haraway s Situated Knowledges In
Modest_Witness@Second_Millenium, Donna Haraway profiles the modest witness of science, a self
invisible inhabitant of an unmarked category who is authorized to establish universal facts about the
world without his own embodiment clouding or biasing the world s objective (i.e., seen as the same
from all perspectives) truth. His subjectivity is his objectivity (24). Historically, his objectivity has
been contrasted with the subjectivity and special interests of women and people of color, among other
marginalized groups. Thus, they have always been excluded from science and used as determinants of

Haraway also calls, perhaps more explicitly, for the eradication of the subject/object binary. This
prevents attempts at the modest witness s transcendence (583). She draws attention to many feminists
critique of modern science s view of the object of knowledge as passive and inert (591). Situated
knowledges require the object to have agency, to engage with the subject on the level of conversation.
The subject does not discover the object and then create a real account of it (592 3). Similar to
Harding and standpoint theory, Haraway argues that situated knowledges are about communities, not
individuals: a larger vision necessitates a particular location

An Income Wave Analysis
Alt j (∆) is a British indie rock band that was formed in 2007 and released their first album in 2012 An
Awesome wave produced by Charlie Andrew. Over the past few years, the four piece band have taken
the indie rock music scene by storm winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in 2012 and their
second album going straight to number one in the UK. The band members met whilst studying at
Leeds University and it was there that the four of them started to experiment with music together, all
bringing different abilities, styles and musical influences to the band.
Taro is the last song of An Awesome Wave and beautifully completes the album. Compared to the rest
of the songs on the album, this used much more ethereal organic sounds which ... Show more content

This helps to balance the song with not putting too much emphasis on the drums and rather having
them intwined with the instumental. Alt j drummer Thom Green said that Phil Selways drumming
definitely influenced my style. The off beats and the odd time signatures, he just fits so well with the
instrumental, and I just started playing like that (Rolling stone, 2015). As Charlie Andrews explains in
an interview with Sound on Sound, 2013, drummer Thom Green does not use cymbals, The only
slightly cymbal like thing he uses is the back end of a saucepan, which he uses for the hi hat, and that
in itself is quite a unique sound. That gives you a lot of space to mess around with the room sound for
the drums without the cymbals going all over it. Andrews also mentions that the snare drum used is a
tiny 10 inch thing that he possibly bought from the toy shop. This allows the snare to have a good
crack to it and then also with a little distortion, can make the snare ring (2013, Sound on Sound). Buy
using these kind of makeshift, minimalist drum sounds, it ads to the songs organic and worldly feel as
though they are tribal percussion instruments rather than actual

Ode To The West Wind By Percy Bysshe Shelley
Today we call the English romantic period the time which took place between the metaphysical poets
and the Victorian age. This period was born because it was hard for the laypeople to understand the
great messages the metaphysical poets wrote down. We also should not forget this is the age of the
Great French Revolution. A famous distinctive mark of romantic poems is the presence of nature. This
is also the case with the poem written by Percy Bysshe Shelley called Ode to the West Wind.
Before I jump into the poem itself I found some noteworthy things about Shelley. Hughes (1918) says
that for Shelley nature was extraordinary. We know that he was not a poet who sat inside looking at
nature and saying how beautiful it is. He actually went out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Here we can again take a glance at the role of the poet, because in Vörösmarty s view the poet would
be the wind itself. If it is thought about this way, we can conclude Shelley might have compared the

The Significant Roles Of Citizen Journalism And The Role...
When it comes to journalism, citizen journalism is not any different from what democracy is when it
comes to politics and civic life. It allows for the active participation of the citizens in news gathering
and reporting. The advancements that have taken place in the field of technology have enabled people
to gain an opportunity to become producers of content that they used to be consumers of in the past
through the mainstream media. Today, everyone has an opportunity to become a citizen journalist
(Allan and Einar 76). There is an array of social media platforms and accounts whose key role is to
disseminate information to the public, especially in cases where individuals may feel that conventional
journalism would want to shield the public from some information. Citizen journalists employ an
extensive range of methods in the generation and dissemination of information. Much of these are
driven by the advancements that have taken place in the field of technology and the forms of
communication available to the public. These include the internet, the mobile phone, and the different
camera gadgets which can all be employed in the gathering and sharing of information (DeMers, 89).
One of the significant roles that citizen journalism could play in the society would be to fill the gap
that is often left by traditional media as they try to play their role as the protector of public interest.
The internet provides the technical means, while the citizens play the active

As a whole, the demographics of North Kingstown are very similar to Cumberland, with high populations of Irish, English, and Italians. Throughout the town, these nationalities reflect in both popular and folk culture. Irish descendants make up 25.8% of North Kingstown s population, reflected in local restaraunts such as Fat Belly s pub, Roman Catholic Churches such as Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, and names such as Hamilton Elementary school. Nowadays, these buildings are home to many local businesses, showing how pop culture and folk culture interact. Though the buildings are an example of the folk culture brought over by early settlers, the modern businesses in them demonstrate folk culture. In addition to local pop culture, national and international companies also have locations in North Kingstown. They represent uniform landscape, as these stores are comparable to ones found elsewhere, providing consumers both local and tourists a sense of farmiliarity. For example, chains such as McDonalds and Starbucks can be found in North Kingtown, but almost identical restaraunts can also be found all over the world. • 4. The Role Of Prayer In Public Schools Throughout the United States, the religious rights of students are frequently being pushed to the side. The majority of the religious rights being threatened belong to non believers. Conservatives often argue that it is a student s and teacher s right to pray in public schools, trying to persuade the American public that they are truly concerned about the rights of the students. However, in all reality, they truly do not care about the religious rights, but instead they care about power. Charles C. Haynes, director of the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute, said it like this, If these fights and lawsuits were only about the right of kids to pray in school, advocates of school prayer would have declared victory and gone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christians claimed in their argument that as long as a specific divine being is not mentioned in the prayer said at school it does not violate the Establishment Clause; however, that is not the case. Many religions do not believe a specific being or believe in praying to any type of divine being. Therefore, praying in public schools, even not mentioning God, is still in violation of the Establishment Clause due to the religions that believe in nothing. Secondly, one of their strongest arguments was that moral decline in public schools was due to the absence of prayer. When they make the statement that the rate of pregnancies, drug busts, and fights in public school systems are inclining due to the absence of prayer they are committing a logical fallacy. They are making a rather bold statement when saying that since prayer has been taking out of schools, the rate of teenage pregnancies has steadily rose. This is a false analogy, also known as the cause and effect fallacy. They assume that since one thing occurred (prayer being removed from schools) has caused another event to occur (rise of immorality in schools). With this argument, they went too far and completely lose their credibility. They cannot assume or expect the American public to believe that the absence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Sun Tzu Theory In The Horn Of Africa Sun Tzu s Theory in the Horn of Africa s Security Challenge Introduction The greater Horn of Africa (HoA) is the sub region of the Eastern part of Africa that composed of Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda. Threats to peace and security are interconnected and comprised various human insecurities that emanate from both intrastate and interstate conflict, and transnational security threats such as terrorism. This is because political, social, and security problems in the region further threaten development efforts and complicate interventions to alleviate, the various related challenges of the region. Mainly, Terrorism has been a source of serious security challenge to the Horn of Africa peace and development process. As terrorism is the main security challenge of the Horn of Africa region, Sun Tzu s theory is relevant in the war with terrorist organizations operated in the greater Horn of Africa. For these countries could helpful in curbing the terrorist threat, if they examine Sun Tzu s theory offensive strategy according to the existing context of the terrorist threat. The offensive strategy first should focus on attacking the terrorist s strategy, and then their allies because the main strength of the terrorist is the strategy they follow. Giving priority on attacking the terrorist s strategy would eliminate fertile ground for terrorist organizations motive. Therefore, this paper will evaluate, and analyze Sun Tzu s theory such ... • 6. Slaughterhouse Five, By Billy Pilgrim assumed that Billy Pilgrim relives his war time experiences on a near daily basis. Another thing is that Billy avoids connections with people like his mother, and even his own fiancé. The conclusion of this analysis as a whole must therefore be that Billy Pilgrim became unstuck in time (in his own world) due to the events of which he witnessed and/or participated in during World War II. The horror of what was occurring around him, and due to the confusion he felt during the occurrence of these events, his entire mental state degraded to the point where he became locked in viewing the past over and over indefinitely, and into helping himself believe his delusion that he was often taken from the earth to another strange planet he felt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, it may be concluded that Billy, due to the effects of having been a POW, and having been witness to the full magnitude of destruction of the city that had no reason to be destroyed, suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which lead him to review the events over and over during the course of his life in different forms and memories. In order to understand how these drastic factors, the destruction of the city Dresden and PTSD , came to make Billy Pilgrim unstuck in time, one must analyze and look over the circumstances surrounding those same events. He is clearly suffering from PTSD with the symptoms of flashbacks about the events he went through in his past, his relationships with people aren t strong and seem forced, and he collides memories with reality. The human mind is a complicated part of the body which current day science knows little about. Trigger mechanisms, and/or other factors within the brain are relatively unknown to current humanity with all of its complexions. Therefore, in order to produce a valid diagnostic on why Billy Pilgrim became unstuck in time (according to the first chapter), the reader of Slaughterhouse Five must come to copping with situations concerning the experiences he went through described in the novel. Billy starts out, chronologically, as a fairly basic infantryman as a part of the United States Army during the last Nazi offensive of the war (World ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Figurative Language In Devil In The White City In the novel The Devil in the White City written by Erik Larson, he entails there is a constant war between good and evil in Chicago 1893, each battle won is a life being made, or slaughtered There are two wolves battling us all right now.... Larson paints the white city s atmosphere as preppy, educated, society that consists of architects like Daniel Burnham, while the black city portrays a bleak, poverty, society that consists of the serial killer H. H. Holmes. The reader experiences a journey between heaven and hell throughout the entirety of the novel, a dream like euphoria in the white city, and the nightmare like misery for the black. The difference between the two contradicting cities is so great that Larson switches the perspective of the serial killer, H. H. Holmes, and the genius architect, Daniel Burnham, throughout the book; painting this image to portray these differences in the white and black cities by using juxtaposition, figurative language, and imagery. H. H. Holmes travels into the white city, leaving the bleak city frozen in place, Larson uses figurative language to reveal how Holmes starts to convert the white city into a kingdom of his own by seeing beauty and grace in some of the most disturbing scenarios. • 10. Vision At The Blind And Visually Impaired Vision is defined as the sense by which objects in the external environment are perceived by means of the light they give off or reflect (Saunders, 2007). Vision is very a significant aspect in human life. If an individual is visually impaired, it will cause other developmental delays in that individual including the sensory, motor, cognitive, social and language developments (Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, n.d.). Additionally, by knowing how colour vision differs in infants and adults, if we find out that an infant does not have colour vision that works the same way as adults, then even if the test has been adapted for infants, it still cannot be used. FPL chromatic discrimination paradigm is used for examining colour vision in infants. From experiments conducted using FPL chromatic discrimination paradigm, it is proven that colour vision of infants improve significantly between 1 and 3 months of age (Brown, 1990). In a review paper by Brown (1990), it is stated that infants at 3 to 4 weeks of age generally have poor ability to discriminate colours. However, when long wavelength lights are used, the result is vague. Most experiments result in infants at 1 month of age failing to distinguish the stimulus when it comes to using long wavelength light. Having said that, there are a few reported infants that could discriminate successfully. As for infants over 2 months old, it is clear that half of them could make some chromatic discriminations. At 3 months of age, based on the several studies mentioned by Brown (1990), most of the infants can already make chromatic discriminations. Hence, it is concluded that they have colour vision to a certain degree as they might not necessarily be trichromats nor have the colour vision of an adult. Bias In Health Care The most important piece of information that I learned is that the description of bias in research is, a deviation from the true results and there is almost no way to avoid it. Bias happens when there is an underlying factor continuously deforms the new findings of a study (EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE: What is bias in health research?, 2009). Even in a study done by incorporating as much randomness as possible, there is bound to be some bias. Random bias would always be present, as human beings aren t omnipotent with the ability to control everything. However, maximum of these businesses do not categorically purchase their own machines. Rather, they just rent copier machines from other firms. What makes copier rentals so prevalent? Is it actually a superior option than buying your own copier unit? The answer for maximum businesses is yes, there are lots of advantages when opting for copier rentals than essentially purchasing a unit for their workplace. At the outset, if you purchase your own copier machine or even toner cartridge, you will have the solitary accountability of maintenance, overhauls and other such errands that could take a lot of your valued time and effort. If you use a copier machine on rent, you will have enormously less apprehension about these problems. Maximum copier rental supplier or firms offer free service and maintenances to their clienteles. • 14. ##enton And Brenton In A Lesson Before Dying And Murder On... Could crimes be unfairly decided depending on evidence and how it is presented to the court? In fact, this happens regularly. This results in many people being falsely convicted of a crime which they never committed. However, the evidence and how it is presented to a jury can change the final decision. There are several significant similarities and differences between A Lesson Before Dying and Murder on a Sunday Morning. These include the way the men were treated while on trial, what type of crime they were accused of, as well as the final decision of the court. The treatment of both Jefferson in A Lesson Before Dying and Brenton in Murder on a Sunday Morning are very similar. This is primarily due to the fact that they are both young, black men. First of all, they already had been accused of the crime due to their race and the negative perspective people tend to have towards African Americans. Not only that, but they were both referred to as niggers by those working on the court cases which could also be considered derogatory. Also, they both had their arms and legs in chains for a large portion of the time in jail when awaiting the trial since they were both deemed dangerous due to the type of crime they committed. Lastly, Jefferson and Brenton were thoroughly interrogated and questioned about their relation to the crime and what information they could provide about it. • 15. An Analysis Of Baby Kochamman In The God Of Small Things An antagonist can be defined as someone or something that is put in the story to oppose the protagonist or to cause problems that need to be overcome. Throughout the story, every character in one way or another causes problems, as the story emphasizes that nobody is perfect. The Orangedrink Lemondrink man could be an antagonist as he causes Estha great emotional turmoil and traumatizes him. Ammu and Velutha could be antagonists because if they hadn t had the affair then maybe Velutha wouldn t be dead and the children wouldn t have been separated and maybe, just maybe, Sophie Mol wouldn t have drowned in the river. Chacko could also be an antagonist as he kicks Ammu out of the house which eventually results in the separation of the twins. However, one character, in particular, Baby Kochamma, in every part of the story, not only does she cause problems, she causes problems for everyone. Baby Kochamma causes problems for Rahel and Estha, for Ammu, for Velutha, for the police, and even makes Chacko more miserable and angry, eventually leading him to force Ammu to leave. Baby Kochamma continually manipulates the characters in the story into doing what she wants to get herself out of trouble. I think that she doesn t have a name because she is a woman in the 1930s, she doesn t really belong on the ranch, and she is considered a nobody. Throughout the book, we see examples of how she is mistreated. This book takes place around the 1930s, when women didn t have as many rights as they do now. They were expected to stay in the house and take care of the family. Since Curley and the boss are the only real family Curley s wife has, she is left a lot of time to herself. Back then, women were often put down and seen as unimportant. Whenever Curley s wife visits the bunkhouse, the ranch workers are quick to tell her to leave. At the beginning, Steinbeck portrays her as, what the guys call, a tart. Candy said, I seen her give Slim the eye...An I seen her give Carlson the eye (Steinbeck 28). This makes the ranch workers wary of talking to her because of their fear of what Curley would do. Her appearance does not help the misconceptions the ranch workers have about her. In The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath uses parallelism, stream of consciousness, the motif of renewal and rebirth, symbolism of the boundary driven entrapped mentally ill, and auto biographical details to epitomize the mental downfall of protagonist, Esther Greenwood. Esther is and forever will be an outcast; the bell jar symbolizes the physical separation between her and society. Esther emotionally cannot cope harmoniously with societal norms (Infobase, 12). Her repulsion of others causes her to prefer to live a life seclusion. This glass barrier suffocates Esther causing her own madness to ensue. Jars, specifically the bell jar, are clear. This allows society to peer through and scrutinize Esther and her every flaw. Esther entrapped herself in a toxic environment which, to her, seems almost impossible to escape. Once Esther escapes the bell jar, it remains suspended , only a few feet above [her] head , contributing an imminent thought of relapse (Plath 215). Esther undergoes shock therapy in an effort to magically cure her; Esther begins emerging from an enlightened womb. Esther s renewal parallels that of a newborn infant; this common literary motif of transforming into the unknown for the better pinpoints Esther during her troubled hours. After a turbulent period of questionable shock treatments, Esther seems to have entered a cured state (Smith Bundzten, 35). Esther is, in a sense, reborn again. Proposal for a Skate Park in Nacogdoches Essay There are about two thousand skate parks in the whole United States, and in contrast to this there are approximately thirteen million skateboarders in the U.S alone. These are really shocking numbers that the average everyday person wouldn t know, or care about. But when one of the thirteen million skaters who don t have a place to skate come and skates in front of their store, suddenly they care. In Nacogdoches this is a real problem, and I have personally observed skaters getting told to leave someplace time and time again. The reason of this problem is that there is no designated place to skateboard in Nacogdoches, such as a skate park. There are many respectable skaters who love to skate and don t do anything wrong. But there are also irresponsible skaters, who care whether or not they mess something up or break it. For all these reasons I think that if there was to be a skate park built here in Nacogdoches it would greatly alleviate many of these problems. People are going to skate whether people like it or not. But with a skate park, the community would have more control over were these people do there skating. As well as this it would allow the parents of their younger skaters to not have to worry as much about were their child is. The park would be new and clean, in addition it would provide a safe environment to skate in. Moreover it would help attract people to come skate, who would otherwise not want to deal with the problems skating on the streets bring. From people I have talked to in the past there are a few things that they would be concerned about if there was a skate park in our town. • 21. Foster Care System Essay The Foster Care System: Doing More Harm Than Good? Often when identifying problems within the child welfare system, only the very surface level issues get scratched: too many children having to enter, not enough willing foster families, and non adequate staffing. However there are problems that are much more serious and often looked past. The foster care system faces various problems including the developmental and mental health issues that affect children and the struggles teenagers encounter once they age out of the system. With innovative new plans like intensive training for workers and foster families to create communities of support and establishing a system of prolonged and permanent health attention, these problems could be fixed. Children enter the foster care system for a multitude of different reasons, some being, poverty, substance abuse, domestic violence, and their parents being convicted of crimes and being sent to jail ( The Future of Children ). All of these reasons listed lead to significant developmental issues for many children. The first five years of any child s life is a crucial period for development both intellectually and physically, and development continues until around the age of fourteen years old. Many of the children enter the foster care system during this crucial phase which causes, according to Brenda Jones Harden, impairments in their physical health, cognitive development, academic achievement, interpersonal relationships, and mental ... The book reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. Animal farm includes use of propaganda as well. A quote for example would be some animals are equal but some are more equal than others. I think that this book fits that quote very well as the author makes Napoleon along with Snowball are the leaders of the rebellion against Jones. There are two types of ways matter can be altered; physically and chemically. Physical changes can be seen through an altering of the substances physical property. A substances physical property is observed and measured without changing the composition of the subject. An example of a chemical change that one could come into contact with daily is rust. Air and iron are the reactants in this situation while rust is the product. The chemical equation for this reaction would look roughly like this, O+FE= OFE or rust. This is clearly a chemical change because you cannot reverse it meaning you cannot take rust and pull out the iron to leave air or vise versa. All chemical changes are finite. One other example of a chemical change is the burning of any substance. For example if one were to burn a sheet of paper it would create ash. This chemical change is finite because you cannot change ash back into paper. Another term to remember when considering changes chemical and physical is the law of conservation of mass. This law simply means that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. Two other terms that are important when describing the properties of substances undergoing changes are extensive and intensive properties. An intensive property is a physical property of a substance that does not depend upon its size such as viscosity. Extensive properties however do depend on a substance s size such as mass and volume. This is also the case for Sethe in the novel Beloved written by Toni Morrison because Sethe s action can be interpreted in many ways depending on the perspective. Sethe killed Beloved so Beloved didn t have to endure slavery, worries and takes close care of Denver, and goes to work on a plantation as the wife of Halle. Comparing the Beloved in Shakespeare s Sonnet 20 and Sonnet 130 In the hands of a master such as Shakespeare, the conventions of the sonnet form are manipulated and transformed into something unique and originally emphasized. Both sonnets in one way or another subvert the conventions of the base Petrarchan sonnet; though they are about love, the traditional topic of sonnets, whilst in Sonnet 20 the object of desire is unattainable and there is no evidence of the level of affection being requited, the target is male, and the target of the poet s affections in Sonnet 130 is the poetic voice s current mistress. The poetic voice s mistress is of nature; no supernal gifts are hers. It is even strongly indicated that she is beneath the highest forms of beauty nature has to offer (her eyes are nothing like the sun , coral is far more red than her lips, no roses see I in her cheeks .) But this is to stray beyond the confines of the original subject, the rest of the verse argues, because the love the voice has for its lover is as rare as any other; beauty does not have to draw such clichéd parallels with nature to be thought of in the mind of a lover as surpassing everything around it. In reference to this repeated theme, in the introduction to the Penguin Classics printing of the Sonnets (though in reference specifically to sonnet 84), editor John Kerrigan concludes: Which hyperbolic poet , Shakespeare asks, which most sayer, can exceed this sublime truism, that you alone are you . For you comprise the only things which, in honesty, you can be compared with . This sonnet serves to invoke a strong sense of realism in love, arguing that as strong an intensity of emotion as may be held, may be held, without the need for delusions of grandeur, taking the view that trying to reconcile two essentially different and diverse things as equal is to do true justice to neither. • 27. The Causes Of Human Growth And The Endocrine System In mammals, we find that the body requires certain systems to function properly and effectively in order to grow. The endocrine system is one of the physiological systems that primarily regulates growth and plays a vital role in the onset of post natal growth as well as the onset and cessation of pubertal growth. There are also other contributors such as nutrition and genetics, etc. that influence these growth patterns. The endocrine system is a vital messaging system that relies completely on hormone delivery to specific cells. The medium of this delivery is the blood in the venous system which means that the hormones secreted can reach target cells often located far from the endocrine glands; this is an efficient method as the endocrine system regulates activities that require duration rather than speed. This efficient system means that homeostasis can be maintained. As the hormones are distributed in the blood through the venous system, this results in the whole body being exposed to these hormones and therefore the fact that only the target cells have specific binding receptors for the particular hormone means that only those target cells will respond to the exposure of the hormone. Once the hormone is bound to its specific target cell receptors, a chain of events within the target cells occurs that brings about the hormones final effect. • 32. The Role Of Carbon Capture And Storage On Climate Change... The role of carbon capture and storage in climate change mitigation Why the interest in CCS? As anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions increase atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations, the resulting climate system warming poses an increasingly serious environmental challenge. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), it is now very likely that these emissions are responsible for most of the recent measured global average surface temperature increase, totalling about 0.65?C or 0.10 0.16?C per decade between 1956 and 2005 (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 2007). As shown in Figure 1.1, equilibrium global temperatures depend on the concentration of atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions (ibid). Rising global temperatures increase the risk of extreme changes in the climate and impacts natural systems supporting water availability, species habitat, and food production. A significant global reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is required to limit these risks and impacts ((IPCC), Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2007); (National Research Council, 2011). In particular, there is some consensus that this warming should be limited to 2?C above pre industrial levels (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 2007); (National Acadamy of Science, 2011), requiring an 80% 85% decrease in global CO2 emissions by mid century (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 2007) . • 40. Summary Of Western Women In High Noon Woman played a crucial role in the building blocks of the western mystique but they were often excluded from the mystique. Their role as homemakers and guardians of morals and culture on the frontier is undeniable, and female pioneers lives were not as dramatic as the western males. Understandably, pioneer women also faced loneliness and despair more frequently than men did, and their mortality rate was higher due to the fact they had more boundaries and limitations. Woman focused on relationships and maintaining stability during a crisis. Which was far different from a male point of focus. Although both High Noon by Fred Zinnemann and Madonna of the Prairie by William Koerner convey the Western life of a pioneer woman, Director Fred Zinnemann depicts a western woman who breaks away from western morals and values to do the right thing, whereas Artist William Koerner depicts an authentic pioneer woman who stays within her morals as a western woman. In the film High Noon by Fred Zinnemann, Will Kane finds himself personally compelled to duel his enemy Frank Miller when he realizes the townspeople of Hadleyville turned cowardly when the time came for a showdown. Will Kane and Frank miller and his bandits duel with their guns outside as everyone hides away from the bullets. • 41. Harding s Standpoint Epistemology And Haraway Analysis Views from Somewhere: Subjectivities and Knowledge Production in Harding s Standpoint Epistemology and Haraway s Situated Knowledges In Modest_Witness@Second_Millenium, Donna Haraway profiles the modest witness of science, a self invisible inhabitant of an unmarked category who is authorized to establish universal facts about the world without his own embodiment clouding or biasing the world s objective (i.e., seen as the same from all perspectives) truth. His subjectivity is his objectivity (24). Historically, his objectivity has been contrasted with the subjectivity and special interests of women and people of color, among other marginalized groups. Thus, they have always been excluded from science and used as determinants of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Haraway also calls, perhaps more explicitly, for the eradication of the subject/object binary. This prevents attempts at the modest witness s transcendence (583). She draws attention to many feminists critique of modern science s view of the object of knowledge as passive and inert (591). Situated knowledges require the object to have agency, to engage with the subject on the level of conversation. The subject does not discover the object and then create a real account of it (592 3). Similar to Harding and standpoint theory, Haraway argues that situated knowledges are about communities, not individuals: a larger vision necessitates a particular location ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helps to balance the song with not putting too much emphasis on the drums and rather having them intwined with the instumental. Alt j drummer Thom Green said that Phil Selways drumming definitely influenced my style. The off beats and the odd time signatures, he just fits so well with the instrumental, and I just started playing like that (Rolling stone, 2015). As Charlie Andrews explains in an interview with Sound on Sound, 2013, drummer Thom Green does not use cymbals, The only slightly cymbal like thing he uses is the back end of a saucepan, which he uses for the hi hat, and that in itself is quite a unique sound. That gives you a lot of space to mess around with the room sound for the drums without the cymbals going all over it. Andrews also mentions that the snare drum used is a tiny 10 inch thing that he possibly bought from the toy shop. This allows the snare to have a good crack to it and then also with a little distortion, can make the snare ring (2013, Sound on Sound). Buy using these kind of makeshift, minimalist drum sounds, it ads to the songs organic and worldly feel as though they are tribal percussion instruments rather than actual ... • 43. Ode To The West Wind By Percy Bysshe Shelley Today we call the English romantic period the time which took place between the metaphysical poets and the Victorian age. This period was born because it was hard for the laypeople to understand the great messages the metaphysical poets wrote down. When it comes to journalism, citizen journalism is not any different from what democracy is when it comes to politics and civic life. It allows for the active participation of the citizens in news gathering and reporting. The advancements that have taken place in the field of technology have enabled people to gain an opportunity to become producers of content that they used to be consumers of in the past through the mainstream media. Today, everyone has an opportunity to become a citizen journalist (Allan and Einar 76). There is an array of social media platforms and accounts whose key role is to disseminate information to the public, especially in cases where individuals may feel that conventional journalism would want to shield the public from some information. Citizen journalists employ an extensive range of methods in the generation and dissemination of information. Much of these are driven by the advancements that have taken place in the field of technology and the forms of communication available to the public. These include the internet, the mobile phone, and the different camera gadgets which can all be employed in the gathering and sharing of information (DeMers, 89).
