Critically Evaluate the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-Operation...
Critically evaluate the Asia Pacific Economic Co operation (APEC) forum s attempts to enhance
regional economic integration in the Asia Pacific.
The Asia Pacific Economic Co operation (APEC) was created in 1989 as a regional discussion forum
for fostering closer economic relations within the region through inter governmental consultations and
other non binding mechanisms. (Dent, 2007:449). To a large extent the forum echoed many decades of
proceeding ideas and initiatives on Pacific regional community building. (Dent, 2008:120). One factor
in APEC s formation arose from the situation at the end of the Cold War whereby there was a growing
market driven economic interdependence which created fresh opportunities for regionalism. ... Show

The view of Western governments, voiced by Fred Bergsten , saw this non discriminatory free trade
principle as being undesirable as it did not enable APEC any leverage in global trade negotiations,
opting instead for more definitive commitments. Whereas East Asian governments advocated in
favour of a less radical approach, one that had more flexibility both in terms of what was implied by
trade and investment liberalisation and the means by which it was to be realised. (Dent, 2008:126).
Given this widely divergent starting point of APEC economies it was subsequently agreed at the
Osaka APEC summit in 1995 that a new modus operandi of concerted unilateralism would be adopted.
The Bogor targets of free trade by 2010/20 instead would be accomplished through transparent
iterations of nationally based Individual Action Plans (IAPs) . This new scheme ultimately relied on
moral persuasion rather than binding contractual obligation and furthermore there was very little
pressure upon APEC member states to make substantive progress with their IAP schemes (Dent,
2007:450) which subsequently resulted in a massively underwhelming commitment amounting to little
more than an oxymoronic commitment to work together by working

How Does Edmond Dantes Change In The Count Of Monte Cristo
The author, Alexandre Dumas, writes a novel about how a man s life has been ruined, and now wants
to take revenge on everyone who wronged him. In the beginning of The Count of Monte Cristo, a
character named Edmond Dantes has the perfect life. He was just promoted to captain at the age of
nineteen, and is about to marry the love of his life. He was the happiest man in the world that seemed
to have a bright future ahead of him. Later on, Edmond Dantes changes tremendously throughout the
book. Edmond becomes a Count. He holds a high reputation in Europe, and has become a very
wealthy man that can buy anything he wants. He has gotten close with other people who are also very
wealthy and hold high reputations in Europe. Edmond in the beginning ... Show more content on

Edmond carefully mapped out his plans of how he will leave his enemies devastated once he gets it.
After he returned the horses that he bought off of Danglars, Edmond asks Ali, I understand you re very
skillful in throwing the lasso. Is that right?... listen : A short time from now a carriage will pass by
drawn by two runaway dappled gray horses, the same ones I had yesterday (Dumas 206). Dantes uses
his servant Ali to make himself look good. By having Ali save Mrs. Villefort and her child, he gains
their favor and the whole family now completely trusts him with their lives. This act enables Dantes to
get closer to Villefort and take his justice. Moreover, Edmond has been able to plan out how he will
take his retribution among everyone, all at once. Edmond reunites a father and son. They think that he
is mistaken, but since they are being paid an abundant amount of francs, they accept it, and pretend as
if they are actually father and son. As the two leave the house, the Count thinks to himself, There go a
pair of scoundrels! What a shame they aren t really father and son! (Dumas 241). The Count
purposefully put these two specific people together in order to achieve his self justice. He had planned
for the father to be Caderousse, and for the son to be Villefort s son. Together, as the fake Calvantis,
they attend a dinner party and they are unaware that the son is in the same room as the father and
mother. Later on, the son will find out his real father and mother, and the parents will learn that their
son is still alive after trying to kill him as a baby. To sum up, the Count has been able to carefully plan
out every single move he will take in order to achieve his ultimate

Chapel Hill Grant Research Papers
Introduction In this paper, I will provide an overview of the year 2007 2008 at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Academics
In January of 2008, Homeland Security gave UNC a multi million dollar grant to study natural
disasters in coastal areas (Homeland security, 2008). Due to this grant, and the efforts made on
Carolina s behalf, emergency managers were able to have the latest scientific information to protect
our coastlines and citizens. Carolina also used the grant to collaborate with other universities and
agencies to conduct research. The outline of the grant was to provide UNC with about $2.5 million per
year for six years, with the possibility for more, as the research developed. [The grant] will help

Lovette drove the three back to Chapel Hill, where Carson was killed (Nizza, 2008). A childhood
friend of Lovette s testified against him in court. He relayed the information that Lovette told him in
confidence regarding the kidnapping and said that before the men fatally shot Carson, she asked them
to pray with her. Lovette and Atwater shot Carson four times in her body and one time in the head.
Her body was found later that day in the middle of a Chapel Hill street. On August 26, 2008, 25 year
old Mohammed Taheri azar was sentenced to 26 33 years in prison for an act of terrorism on UNC s
campus. He rented a Jeep and drove it through the most popular meeting place on campus, the pit
(Carlson, 2008). Taheri azar seriously injured nine people, but intended to kill many more. Some
victims spoke out about their experiences. One victim, Larry Allsep, stated When the jeep got close, I
smelled the fumes and the gas. He also said that he went up onto the hood and was thrown off. Allsep
suffered many injuries from the attack, including a broken wrist and tail

The Importance Of Hair Designs In Ancient Egypt
The ancient Egyptians were one of the first world civilizations to exist on our planet being the first to
set parameters. I often wonder if they knew they were the first. When they were creating things such
as the toothbrush and the calendar did they feel like they were inventing for all of humanity? Or, were
they just creating things based on their needs in the present moment not realizing the impact it would
have on the Africa and beyond? After my research, I found out that they were the original creators of
one of my deepest passions the art of barbers. The ancient Egyptians believed that being clean shaven
was a sign of good hygiene and class. This belief inspired them to create sharp stones that would trim
their hair; by advancing this technology they were able to carve out the first barbershop industry in
world civilization. The deep desire of intricate hair designs or braids, short hair or shaven heads, or the
desire for hair wigs organically led to the need of tools that could revision their hair. In research done
by W. Flinders Petries describes the relationship of hair design in ancient Egypt by stating, There were
periods when the head was clean shaven, others when it was left to grow, cropped short or worn
shoulder long or even longer by both men and women. Egyptians invention of the first barber tools
begin 6,000 years ago where nobles crafted their barber tools out of sharpened flint, shell, or stone. As
time continued the tools continued to become more

Who s Got No Game
Reflecting on the topic of Men In Relationships, Neill Korobov s article He s Got No Game (2009)
was particularly interesting to me, specifically the concept of the lovable loser. This archetype is en
vogue in a vast majority of comedic films for more than a decade. More recent examples are typified
by actors like Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Jay Baruchel, to name just a few. In spite of how prolific
this emerging masculine character has become, Korobov rightly states that this persona is unlikely to
be employed by any males other than younger white guys. Unsurprisingly, the aforementioned movie
genre is targeted towards this very demographic. This conjures questions of whether life imitates art,
or vice versa.
We know from Holt Thompson s writing that men consume their particular brand of masculinity, and
this loveable loser anti hero is no exception. Korobov s approach to understanding emerging
masculinities through discursive analysis is fascinating although observing actual human behaviour
can be considered far more accurate, the ways in which we speak about things have a certain creative
power. The things that we say off the cuff are often an accurate reflection of the culture we live in. In
Korobov s study, he explained that he did his best to create an environment where young men s
discourse could emerge naturally, but we know intuitively that such an attempt is fraught with many
difficulties which can include observer bias, impression management, and

Kellogg s Case Study
Question One:
There are three key sectors of the supply chain, namely; primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. The
former encompasses all processes and activities geared towards transforming natural resources into
primary products which are then to be used in manufacturing finished products (Choi, 2011). For
instance, the forestry industry falls under the primary sector bearing in mind the fact that it focuses on
transforming a natural resource, i.e. trees, into a primary product (timber).
On the other hand, the secondary sector is concerned with transforming the primary products
generated from the primary sector into finished products. For instance, Kellogg s is a ... Show more

This gives a candid explanation as to why Kellogg s entered into an agreement with Tesco meant to
allow its products to continue being displayed in the latter s stores. Kellogg s collaboration with
tertiary sector entities can also be attributed to its allure in ensuring it continues to purport successful
business activities. For instance, maintaining good relationships with banks makes it possible for the
entity to acquire additional funds to finance its operations or investment activities (Leeman, 2010).
Question Four: The major benefit that can be realized from the decision of large manufactures like
Kellogg s to outsource some its activities to specialist companies like TDG is that of making the
former s supply chain and distribution channels to become more efficient. The achievement of this
objective is usually facilitated through the emphasis of these specialist entities to employ
computerized systems while purporting stock handling and logistic functions for their clients, with this
enhancing the timely and cost efficient delivery of stock in the larger manufacturers retail stores
(Choi, 2011). Moreover, these specialists assist larger firms such as Kellogg s to minimize the
wastages which normally occur within their supply chains, more so through streamlining their
transportation, distribution and storage systems (Leeman,

Ethanol and Gas Prices Essays
Ethanol and Gas Prices
Do the gas prices frustrate you every time you pull up to the pump? Gas companies are charging too
much for the natural resource that is turned into what we know as gasoline. Gas companies discourage
research and new ideas every year. Afraid of losing the market that they have cornered they buy
patents. This way the patents will never be used and they still have the market cornered. Ethanol is a
much safer and more economical solution to our gas problem. It is cleaner burning and it can be
produced from year to year. Ethanol will allow the United States public to get away from the
corruption of big gas business and finally be able to enjoy better prices at the pump. The gas
companies do not need to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethanol is produced with the help of farmers. It comes from the common cash crop called corn. These
crops are grown throughout the United States and mainly in the Midwest. They can be produced every
year and hauled straight to the local plant. Using ethanol would help these struggling farmers. The
corn prices have been down for some time and the economic help from using ethanol would be
astronomical. Farmers would haul more corn each year because of the demand that the ethanol plant
brings. The demand for grain created by ethanol production increases net farm income more than $12
billion annually (ethanol info). In the future the demand for ethanol would be greater which would
produce a larger farm income each year. Ethanol could help the farmers more than anything else. The
raise in income would be dramatic because the use of ethanol today is only minimal and it produces
$12 billion in income each year. The more ethanol used the more the annual income it will produce.
This would cause the corn price to go up and more farmers would be able to stay in business. There
would be no more struggles with foreign nations to get better oil prices. The money that is spent on
the imports of oils from other countries will not be needed as much and hopefully in the future will not
be needed at all. This new and safe energy producer known as ethanol could be produced and
manufactured in the United States. Today, ethanol reduces the demand for gasoline

Essay on Vietnam
Weapons of the Vietnam War
In late 1961, America took physical force in the Vietnam War. War is a complex series of political
events that leads to physical involvement in the form of armed combat. Technology is a major
deciding factor in war, along with the battle tactics used, terrain, experience and professionalism of the
opposing forces. By 1961 both the United States and Vietnam had developed a broad array of guns
and weapons to fight off one another. Coupled with battle tactics this provides a deadly and extremely
hostile environment. In the beginning of the war the weapon of choice for the support troops was the
M1 Carbine. The carbine was half the weight and held a less powerful cartridge than its brother, the
M1 Garand. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The M 16 is infamous for its accuracy on the battlefield especially at longer ranges. Both assault rifles
share the same 5.56mm projectiles, which provides significant stopping power. The M 203 grenade
launcher was a muzzle loaded grenade that fit under the barrel of assault rifles such as the M 16. The
40mm grenade was used to provide additional fire support in a gunfight. The high explosive had a
range of 400m and a blast radius of 5m. Before the M 203, infantry used a weapon called the M 79
grenade launcher. Which largely resembled a sawn off shotgun. The M 79 was designed to take up the
gap between maximum hand grenade distance, and minimum mortar fire distance. It could fire an
array of projectiles which included darts, buck shots, smoke, gas and flares. The M 79 was ideal in
Vietnam terrain. Although the M 16 was very easy to use in the field, some of the U.S. Armies Special
Forces used a gun very similar to the M 16. The XM 177E2 or more commonly the colt commando or
the CAR 15, had telescoping stock for easy handling and could be used more like an SMG instead of
an assault rifle which made the CAR 15 a great choice for combat situations where fighting would be
extremely close. Although it was popular with Special Forces the CAR 15 saw very limited use with
normal battalion units. Infantry used the M 67 recoilless rifle to destroy bunkers. It was a breach
loaded single shot rifle (much like a bazooka and other

Legal And Ethical Issues Of Human Cloning
Cloning by definition taken from the Oxford Dictionary is a plant or an animal that produced naturally
or artificially from the cells of another plant or animal and so the same as it. The first cloned adult
mammal is a sheep named Dolly. The aim of research into human cloning has never been to clone
people, or to make babies. The original aim of human cloning research is to get stem cell to cure a
disease. It is inevitable that one day this knowledge of human cloning would be abused. As time goes
by, the scientist started to think deeply and this is how the concept of cloned human being introduced.
There are a few reasons why the human cloning is illegal by the laws. Human cloning research faces
with many problems since it first announced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This issue continues to be a significant national and international policy issue although most countries
still do not have specific cloning laws (Bonnicksen A., 2002).
Body Paragraph 1
The first problem that human cloning encounter is it is one of unethical processes because it involves
the alteration of the human genetic and human may be harmed, either during experimentation or by
expectations after birth. Cloning, like all science, must be used responsibly. Cloning human is not
desirable. But cloning sheep has its uses. , as quoted by Mary Seller, a member of the Church of
England s Board of Social Responsibility (Amy Logston, 1999). Meaning behind this word are
showing us that cloning have both advantages and disadvantages. The concept of cloning is hurting
many human sentiments and human believes. Given the high rates of morbidity and mortality in the
cloning of other mammals, we believe that cloning to produce children would be extremely unsafe,
and that attempts to produce a cloned child would be highly unethical , as quoted by the President s
Council on Bioethics. Since human cloning deals with human life, it said to be unethical if people are
willing to killed embryo or infant to produce a cloned human and advancing on it. The probability of
this process is successful is also small because the technology that being used in this process is still
new and risky.

Analysis Of Theater Of The Oppressed By Augusto Boal
In Theater of the Oppressed , Augusto Boal argues that theater is inherently political and that
traditional, Aristotelian theater is inherently oppressive. He reviews the history of theater, from
Aristotle through Machiavelli, Hegel, and Brecht, and proposes a new idea of theater that breaks the
bounds between audience and performers, and between chorus and protagonist. In the Introduction ,
Boal introduces his main proposition, that theater is inherently political. He presents conflicting
classical ideas of whether the theater is merely entertainment or is fundamentally political. Aristotle
argued that theater and poetry are independent of politics, and Boal seeks to show that Aristotelian
theater is a political tool that represses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Boal, Aristotle s tragic hero has one flaw, a characteristic that is antisocial or rebellious.
The audience empathizes with this trait, and the virtuous character. When the flaw leads the character
to tragedy, the audience pities the character and fears for themselves, who share this trait. Through the
character s downfall, the trait is suppressed in the audience.
How does Art imitate Nature? Well Aristotle seems to think that Art imitates nature means that Art
recreates the creative principle of created things. Not in the sense that it mimics things in the world,
but that it re cerates nature. In this sense, art utilizes the creative principal of created things. Artistic
items are not exact reproductions, but contain much of the same tenets as the original so as to impart
knowledge and understanding about that item. Boal describes ideas of the thinkers of Aristotle s time
and how Aristotle may have developed this point of view. Boal concludes this sub section of section
one with the idea of knowledge and how it is presented. He suggests that through dialectics and the
debate of ideas knowledge ascends. Boal further depicts how Aristotle may have reconciled his
position on the arts and society with that of his contemporaries. He introduced new concepts in the
perception that substance is the enduring unity of matter and form. In tragedy (Aristotle s
characterization for theater),

The Parable Of The Alert Servant Made Simple Essay
The Parable of the Alert Servant Made Simple (Mark 13:33 37)
By Matthew Payne
Jan 11, 2012
Mark 13:33 37 reads:
Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going out to a far
country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded
the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is
coming in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning lest, coming
suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to you all: Watch!
Throughout the New Testament, Jesus shared all about the signs of the time. He had been sharing that
there will be false Christs and there will be tribulation. The stars of Heaven will fall and all sorts of
things will happen before the coming of the end of days.
Jesus is much more than a wonderful person. While reading or listening to these parables, I hope you
will fully understand who He is and what is really going on. Today, Jesus has in fact gone to a far
country. This is no longer a parable. While it is true that when Jesus was on earth, this was a parable
with a funny significance, He had not yet gone to that far country but now Jesus has gone away. It
says just before this, concerning the day of his second coming, of that day no one knows, not even the
angels in Heaven nor the Son, but only the Father.
I have heard many recent accounts of people who have met Jesus in Heaven, and

Ambiguous Concepts Of Insolvency Between Temporary Lack Of...
1. Ambiguous concepts of insolvency between temporary lack of liquidity
S588G impose a duty on directors stop a company trading while it is insolvent or would become
insolvent. The provision requires directors take any reasonable steps to prevent incurring debts and
maintain the maximum abilities to pay the present creditors or protect future creditors. The ultimately
objective is to protect the creditors. According to S588G, as long as the directors suspect that the
company is insolvent or would become insolvent and fail to prevent a company from insolvent
trading, he or she would potentially personal liable for all the debts incurred since insolvency.
Under S95A, A company is insolvent if it is unable to pay all its debts when they become due for
payment (Hanrahan, 2015). It is difficult for directors to figure out whether the company is temporary
lack of liquidity or insolvent. Furthermore, the uncertain local and global economic conditions would
make them feel hesitant about whether the decision they make will save the company not. This
provision put significantly personal liabilities on directors shoulder. Directors special without
company share directors would rather to simply give up saving the company by winding up or
appointing an administrator than put their personal wealth on risk even though there is a chance to
rescue it.
One of the objective of appointing an voluntary administration is to put a company into a temporary

Analysis of Women in the Book of Judges Essay
When interpreting the Hebrew Bible from a feminist perspective, many are quick to decry the
subjugation of women at the hands of men and the lack of female representation in dominant roles in
biblical literature. However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this claim
of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not discarded as
characters and are not wholly unappreciated. In fact, the book of Judges features many strong female
characters who serve in significant roles, and who are effectively portrayed as leaders, heroes, and
capable, resourceful individuals. An excellent example of an influential woman in Judges is Deborah.
From the beginning, Deborah is identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his
soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in honor
of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted parallels
drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177).
Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war
without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the
presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett
proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader chosen
by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to the
Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy into
their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God.
Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually
relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this
specific role) (Shapira 28). Deborah, however, is an exception. Although she is a prophetess, she is
also relevant in society, and fulfills multiple roles. She successfully leads the charge

Defense Of Skepticism
A Defense of Skepticism in the Epistemology of Testimony
This philosophical study will defend the premise of skepticism in relation to the epistemology of
testimony. Skepticism provides a more evaluative and complex response to the reductionist acquisition
of knowledge by rejecting any form of absolute knowledge. Reductionism provides a holistic way to
describe the functions of knowledge in theories proposed by Descartes, yet these functions can be
further reduced to more obscure or even non existent causalities. More so, antireductionism is not a
sufficient means of describing the underlying functions of knowledge, since it seeks to define the
absolute foundations of a system of thought in a non holistic manner. This is why skepticism is ...

In this form of rationalism, the process of discerning the parts of the whole becomes the method of
validating knowledge, yet these compartmentalized methods can also be falsely interpreted through
the senses. The skeptic would countermand this approach by arguing that the parts of knowledge can
also be false and/or/ non existent, because they have the same subjective qualities as those found in
the reductionist method. For example, Descartes might tell us that the existence of angels would prove
the existence of God. Angels are a subset of God s power in heaven, which would assume that we do
not need to directly prove the existence of God because of the existence of angels. However, Angles
are also subjective literary figures in the Bible, which defines why antireductionist methods can be
equally false. In this manner, Descartes argument about the existence of the mind is based on personal
opinions related to the bible, which an antireductionist might utilize to validate an argument: A central
Cartesian idea, then, is that we know ourselves and our own thoughts and experiences best (Week 5:
Rationalism Notes, p.1). Although an antireductionist might disagree with Descartes holistic
reductionism of the mind (and God s existence), they might also, on the other hand, be convinced of
the God s existence through the existence of Angels.

Persuasive Essay On Forensic Accounting
Many people have no clue how their finances work or how they are managed. Most people just know
that someone they pay does it for them. But who are these unsung heros of the financial world?
Accounting is a very broad and large field of study where a person with a degree has many career
options. Many people s ideal job in the accounting field would be forensic accounting for the FBI.
Accountants are the people who prepare and examine financial records, ensure taxes are paid and filed
properly, and help businesses run their finances smoothly. Forensic accounting is a more specific job
where they looking for fraud or money laundering in a company. Forensic accountants need to not
only be good with numbers and money, but should also be able to quickly spot abnormalities in the
numbers. Accountants must be accepted into their college s business school or must become a finance
major. Most colleges require around a 3.5 GPA to be accepted into the business school. To receive an
accounting degree, one must complete a five year, 150 credit hour accounting program (awards a
bachelor s or master s degree) ( Accountants and Auditors. Missouri). 150 hours is much more than
most other degrees and shows that accounting is a strenuous course schedule and is not for the lazy.

The New Imperialism was centered on nationalism, social Darwinism, and economic expansion. The
colonizers of the time were focused on only improving the state of their own countries and never even
paid attention to what the indigenous peoples were forced to do. All they wanted was influence and
power. On the other hand, the colonized had no control over the situation. They had no power to fight
back against the countries taking them over, and they were forced to change their way of life to the
ways of the white man. Rhodes was a perfect example of one of those colonizers, he believed that the

The Decline Of Standard Australian English
According to Ethnologue, there is reportedly 7 097 living languages worldwide (Simons, 2016)
furthermore; Anderson (2012) explains the decline of the number of languages worldwide as being
due to the growth of the major languages; a lesser utilised language dies when it ceases to be learnt by
children. Standard Australian English (SAE) is the language used by the majority of the Australian
population and its Government. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics; with a population of
over 21.5 million people less than a quarter of them speak a language other than English in their home
and that quarter includes the speaking of about 145 Indigenous Australian languages; a number which
has decreased from the 250 or so Indigenous Australian

Jimmy Valentine Analysis
If a person cannot change their morals, then no one can change. Jimmy Valentine was a burglar that
had just gotten out of jail for cracking safes. Jimmy was a good guy at heart but made some bad
decisions. Jimmy moved to Elmore where he opened a shoe store, and met Annabel his fiance. Jimmy
Valentine was trying to live a moral life because he was honest, compassionate, and responsible.
First, Jimmy Valentine was trying to live a moral life by showing his honesty. Jimmy showed his
honesty by agreeing to go with Ben Spencer after he cracked open the safe. Jimmy knew that Ben had
been watching him, and instead of running after he cracked the safe he went to Ben as if he was going
to take him back to jail. Although, Ben gave him another chance to live a moral life, the fact he went
straight to Ben shows honesty. Also, Jimmy showed his honesty by not robbing Annabels father s
bank. Since Jimmy did not rob Mr. Adams bank he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jimmy showed his responsibility by opening a shoe store in Elmore. Jimmy needed something to do
work wise, so he opened a shoe store which shows that he has a lot of responsibility to take care of it.
Since Jimmy showed people that he could be responsible and have his own business, people respected
him. Jimmy stuffed it into his vest pocket, threw off his coat and pulled up his shirt sleeves. With that
act Ralph D. Spencer passed away and Jimmy Valentine took his place (Henry). It was Jimmy s
responsibility to open the safe to save Agatha. Jimmy had to try his best to open the safe because he
was the only one there that knew how to open it. Another reason Jimmy showed his responsibility was
by planning to move west with Annabel and keep her safe. Jimmy knew it was his responsibility to
protect Annabel, and that mindset helped him live a moral life. Jimmy Valentine was an exceptionally
responsible person after he moved to Elmore to live and lead a moral

How Does Shakespeare Create Tension In Hamlet
The notion of tension is depicted as a constant concept through Shakespeare s 1599 tragedy, Hamlet,
illustrating the changing values of the Elizabethan context. As a product of the early modern period, it
reflects the anxiety between feudal absolutism and the emerging challenge of humanism, additionally,
an emphasis on reason and logic supposed to superstition and passion. The composer draws attention
to the deficiencies of the old order and the possibilities of the new and is characterised by a climate of
uncertainty and corruption as applied through both _____ and Hamlet

This tone of confusion foregrounds the pervading uncertainty, ambiguity and scepticism the characters
encounter in the political turmoil of Denmark. This beginning of the play reflects the anxieties of the
late Elizabethan age wherein monarchical succession was uncertain, and competing political
ideologies created an environment of suspicion. The mood of uncertainty within the text, emphasized
through Hamlet s riddling letter to Ophelia, in which he alludes to some of the central scientific
arguments of the day , : Doubt thou the stars are fire, doubt that the sun doth move, doubt truth to be a
liar, but never doubt I love . These poetic images serve to illustrate, through inversion, that indeed
those ideas most firmly believed in medieval Europe had in fact been exposed as inaccurate scientific
truths. This challenges audiences to recognise. Both within the play and the context, that assumed
values were no longer reliable. The continuing evocation of a climate of uncertainty and scepticism
within the narrative ironically reinforced through Hamlet s own decision to adopt an antic disposition ,
and his deliberate action to deceive others serves to reinforce the audience s recognition of the
uncertainty of characters. His deliberate manipulation of uncertainty in others acts to amplify the
mood of scepticism within the play ironically

The Devonian Era
The Devonian period initiating approximately 416 Mya and culminating 359 Mya represents a
geologic time period, which characterizes a major part of the Paleozoic Era. Traversing between the
Silurian period (444 416 Mya), and Carboniferous period (359 299 Mya) the Devonian period
epitomizes substantial modifications in the world s ecology and geography.
In the early Devonian period, also known as the Lochkovian, Pragian and Emsian epoch, due to
substantial tectonic activity, resulted in the convergence of numerous continental land masses, forming
into two supercontinents known as Euramerica and Gondwana. Both these supercontinents assembled
comparatively close to each other in a single hemisphere near the equator and were surrounded by
massive oceans which resulted in the formation of subduction zones. (Sites with a high rates of

enormous structural deformation of the Earth s lithosphere due to the interaction between tectonic

eastern North America. The formation started in the early Devonian period, however reached its
pinnacle during the mid to late Devonian period. As a result of the newly formed mountain range,
there was extensive erosion, which produced prodigious amounts of sediment, which was then

Essay on The Change in Method of Suffragettes Between 1903...
The Change in Method of Suffragettes Between 1903 and 1915 From 1903 through to 1915, the
methods that the suffragettes used to gain the right to vote dramatically changed. In my essay I will
explain how and more importantly why the suffragettes went through several methods to get
themselves noticed by the male government. It was in 1903 when the suffragettes started to try and
gain enough publicity so that they were recognised. This tactic mainly consisted of ineffectual
activities like producing and then distributing leaflets. Most people would just discard or throw these
away. The newly founded WSPU, (which was formed by Emily Pankhust) would also make pointless
petitions and organise moves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They did this by heckling MP s. This meant that they would chain themselves to MP s houses, their
limo s or anywhere else the MP s were, especially David Lloyd George. They also organised large
scale demonstrations that would hold up traffic for hours and deliberately get themselves arrested to
gain publicity. All of these things were done to show the government that they were not to be messed
with, but unfortunately the women were only charged with petty vandalism. This is why Christabelle
Pankhurst decided the suffragettes would call the government s bluff and begin their third campaign,
violence. Not only this but they also changed tack because of the situation concerning the conciliation
bills. Lloyd George promised to present a conciliation bill to parliament if they called off their
militancy campaign. They agreed to this but the bill presented was simply talked out . Another two
bills suffered the same fate until the women again felt betrayed by the Liberals and David Lloyd
George in particular. Because of this the womens militancy campaign got worse not better, but at least
womens emancipation was being discussed where it mattered most, parliament. From 1911 the
suffragettes went up a gear and tried to call the governments bluff. They started to cause a real stir and
politicians took notice, for the wrong reasons.

Ancient Egypt Similarities
Religion had always been an important object in people s lives for decades. Each religion had its own
beliefs, rituals, and gods. In Ancient Egypt, there were multiple gods who control different places.
Their religion also includes magic, mythology, and science. The people in Egypt believed life on Earth
is only part of the eternal journey. They needed to live an earnest life on Earth and continue their
journey in the afterlife. People in Egypt hinge on each other to complete their task and produce
pleasure as it was the will of the gods. The Egyptians worship every single god and earn good deeds
while they were alive, because they wanted to continue their journey after they die. Each Egyptian god
performed on different tasks, because there were too many tasks for just one god to handle and each
god had their own abilities. Nevertheless, it made Egypt better by performing the tasks efficiently.
There were over 2000 different Egyptian gods, their similarities were the ways they looked like. They
all had human body with a head of an animal or a bird. People in Egypt believed those animals had
divine powers, therefore, those animals were often buried with decorated grave and near human. The
gods started from the nine gods of Ennead. The sun god and eight of his off springs. God of creation
Atum was the father of gods, he was also referred as the father of Pharaohs. He created himself and

Malcom X Comparison
The Autobiography of Malcom X by Malcom X is a book that shares many common themes as I
Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Both books deal with the racial inequality of African American in
the United States. Both books are autobiographies that show the graphic lives of two African
Americans. However, The Autobiography of Malcom X focuses more on a controversial historical
figure than on the childhood of a young African American girl. This controversial figure is often
depicted negatively in media and is overlooked or forgotten about in history classes that focus on
Martin Luther King Jr. Interestingly, Malcom X is often portrayed darker in media than he was in
reality. MLK, on the other hand, is often shown with a lighter skin tone. This difference speaks
volumes to the perception of the two activists. Reading his autobiography educates people on the
reality of Malcom X s beliefs and life story. Like Angelou s autobiography Malcom X has a distinct
perception of White people as the ideal, at least at the start of the novel. I Endured all of that pain...to

Male And Female Relationships In Prison
It is nothing new that relationships occur within the prisons. This includes male and females.
However, the article we read stated that male and female relationships are quite different. For males,
these relationships are geared with control and violence, as the females it s quite the opposite.
I think that guards should be allowed to encourage familial relationships but not sexual relationships.
I m sure that trying to stop family type relationship would provide quite difficult in the first place.
Having this kind of structure in prison could be beneficial to those that have never experienced it and
would also help some in the rehabilitation process. Sexual relationships in jail would not do any
justice towards rehabilitation but would

The Decision Of Roe V. Wade
The decision of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case that legalized abortion in the United States, had
a very evident and profound impact on the social and political climates of the United States. Before
the case, it had seemed that abortion was a settled issue in America: a majority of people opposed the
practice, and a majority of states had abortion bans. However, by the 1960 s, political factions and
campaigns were rising up and stirring the waters of reproductive rights. Abortion had changed during
the courses of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries, morphing from a private practice of the people
into a great political divide. Abortion was actually easily accessible during the Nineteenth Century, but
the rise of religious fundamentalism compelled citizens to become involved in either the protection of
the fetus or the defense of reproductive rights. Roe v. Wade had been either labeled as the legal
settling of the abortion issue or the igniter of change in regards to abortion. The decision not only
affected the minds of the people, but the decision had also set a legal precedent that affected more than
thirty Supreme Court cases that later dealt with abortion (Planned Parenthood). As previously stated,
abortion was quite accessible during the Nineteenth Century simply because it was classified as a
private matter between a woman and her doctor. Although medical practices were drastically different
during that period, doctors performed very effective techniques to

Victor Frankenstein Film Analysis
Victor Frankenstein 2015
Victor Frankenstein 2015 is a science fiction, thriller and horror film that is based on the 1818 novel
by Mary Shelley. The film was directed by Paul Mcguian and starred Daniel Radcliffe as Igor and
James McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein (McGuigan). Unlike other film adaptations based on the same
novel, the film is narrated from Igor s perspective. Igor is a young assistant who is working closely
with his over ambitious friend Victor. Victor is also a young medical student who will stop at nothing
to achieve his scientific goals.
The director lets the film rolls from Igor s perspective in order to allow the audience to understand and
appreciate the emergence of Frankenstein as scientists that the audience knows to ... Show more

He proves this when conversing with Igor in the lab when the latter says, Victor, you promised me that
this was all about life , Victor remarks in awe that it was about so much more than life (Frankenstein).
The film was written by Max Landis and is significantly different from most versions of the same
story (Coming to Life). It attempts to take a third person perspective in order to reflect on the
temperament of the main character, Victor Frankenstein. Using third person narration, Max manages
to vilify Victor s character by shining a light on his recklessness. This is particularly important given
that the Mary s novel allowed the audience to empathize with Victor due to the loss of his family
members and fiancé.
In this adaptation, the writer ensures that Victor is unhinged and carefree but a loyal friend to Igor and
other people in his life. In addition to being brash, Victor is humorous in most of the scenes. This is
implied when Igor pleads with him to rethink the experiments since the police were after the duo.
While his friend Igor wanted to make a world a better place and hopefully be remembered for
inventing new ways of healing the sick, Victor seeks to redefine the meaning of life and death. From
the writing, it is clear that Victor did not really intend to get anybody hurt. His character is simply
deranged and he ends up risking the lives of the people around him. The writer

During walking and running, leg muscles produce forces that impact the tibiofemoral joint. These
forces can have a negative impact on the development, health and maintenance of the cartilage and
meniscus in that joint (and increased load on the knees and the tibiofemoral joint can result in
osteoarthritis). The tibiofemoral load is varied depending on the muscle coordination patterns. The
laboratory created a musculoskeletal model of subject to analyze the tibiofemoral load, and an
optimization framework to calculate the load from muscle coordination. Using the model and
optimization framework, the laboratory was able to understand the impact of different muscle
coordination on the tibiofemoral load. The laboratory was able to precisely predict tibiofemoral forces
when compared to in vivo measurements during the early stance phase, but overshot its prediction
during the late stance phase. The over prediction of the tibiofemoral load was due to the extended
activity of the gastrocnemius and the rectus femoris. The laboratory was able to modify the activity of
these two muscles to increase resemblance with in vivo measurements. The laboratory was also able to
identify distinct changes in muscle activity that could decrease tibiofemoral load. A decrease in
activation of the rectus femoris and gastrocnemius and an increase in activation of the soleus, gluteus
medium and uniarticular hip flexors can decrease the tibiofemoral forces during late

  • 2. Critically Evaluate the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-Operation... Critically evaluate the Asia Pacific Economic Co operation (APEC) forum s attempts to enhance regional economic integration in the Asia Pacific. The Asia Pacific Economic Co operation (APEC) was created in 1989 as a regional discussion forum for fostering closer economic relations within the region through inter governmental consultations and other non binding mechanisms. (Dent, 2007:449). To a large extent the forum echoed many decades of proceeding ideas and initiatives on Pacific regional community building. (Dent, 2008:120). One factor in APEC s formation arose from the situation at the end of the Cold War whereby there was a growing market driven economic interdependence which created fresh opportunities for regionalism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The view of Western governments, voiced by Fred Bergsten , saw this non discriminatory free trade principle as being undesirable as it did not enable APEC any leverage in global trade negotiations, opting instead for more definitive commitments. Whereas East Asian governments advocated in favour of a less radical approach, one that had more flexibility both in terms of what was implied by trade and investment liberalisation and the means by which it was to be realised. (Dent, 2008:126). Given this widely divergent starting point of APEC economies it was subsequently agreed at the Osaka APEC summit in 1995 that a new modus operandi of concerted unilateralism would be adopted. The Bogor targets of free trade by 2010/20 instead would be accomplished through transparent iterations of nationally based Individual Action Plans (IAPs) . This new scheme ultimately relied on moral persuasion rather than binding contractual obligation and furthermore there was very little pressure upon APEC member states to make substantive progress with their IAP schemes (Dent, 2007:450) which subsequently resulted in a massively underwhelming commitment amounting to little more than an oxymoronic commitment to work together by working ... • 3. How Does Edmond Dantes Change In The Count Of Monte Cristo The author, Alexandre Dumas, writes a novel about how a man s life has been ruined, and now wants to take revenge on everyone who wronged him. In the beginning of The Count of Monte Cristo, a character named Edmond Dantes has the perfect life. He was just promoted to captain at the age of nineteen, and is about to marry the love of his life. He was the happiest man in the world that seemed to have a bright future ahead of him. Later on, Edmond Dantes changes tremendously throughout the book. Edmond becomes a Count. He holds a high reputation in Europe, and has become a very wealthy man that can buy anything he wants. He has gotten close with other people who are also very wealthy and hold high reputations in Europe. Edmond in the beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edmond carefully mapped out his plans of how he will leave his enemies devastated once he gets it. After he returned the horses that he bought off of Danglars, Edmond asks Ali, I understand you re very skillful in throwing the lasso. Is that right?... listen : A short time from now a carriage will pass by drawn by two runaway dappled gray horses, the same ones I had yesterday (Dumas 206). Dantes uses his servant Ali to make himself look good. By having Ali save Mrs. Villefort and her child, he gains their favor and the whole family now completely trusts him with their lives. This act enables Dantes to get closer to Villefort and take his justice. Moreover, Edmond has been able to plan out how he will take his retribution among everyone, all at once. Edmond reunites a father and son. They think that he is mistaken, but since they are being paid an abundant amount of francs, they accept it, and pretend as if they are actually father and son. As the two leave the house, the Count thinks to himself, There go a pair of scoundrels! What a shame they aren t really father and son! (Dumas 241). The Count purposefully put these two specific people together in order to achieve his self justice. He had planned for the father to be Caderousse, and for the son to be Villefort s son. Together, as the fake Calvantis, they attend a dinner party and they are unaware that the son is in the same room as the father and mother. Later on, the son will find out his real father and mother, and the parents will learn that their son is still alive after trying to kill him as a baby. To sum up, the Count has been able to carefully plan out every single move he will take in order to achieve his ultimate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Chapel Hill Grant Research Papers Introduction In this paper, I will provide an overview of the year 2007 2008 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Academics In January of 2008, Homeland Security gave UNC a multi million dollar grant to study natural disasters in coastal areas (Homeland security, 2008). Due to this grant, and the efforts made on Carolina s behalf, emergency managers were able to have the latest scientific information to protect our coastlines and citizens. Carolina also used the grant to collaborate with other universities and agencies to conduct research. The outline of the grant was to provide UNC with about $2.5 million per year for six years, with the possibility for more, as the research developed. [The grant] will help protect our homes, our businesses, our environment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lovette drove the three back to Chapel Hill, where Carson was killed (Nizza, 2008). A childhood friend of Lovette s testified against him in court. He relayed the information that Lovette told him in confidence regarding the kidnapping and said that before the men fatally shot Carson, she asked them to pray with her. Lovette and Atwater shot Carson four times in her body and one time in the head. Her body was found later that day in the middle of a Chapel Hill street. On August 26, 2008, 25 year old Mohammed Taheri azar was sentenced to 26 33 years in prison for an act of terrorism on UNC s campus. He rented a Jeep and drove it through the most popular meeting place on campus, the pit (Carlson, 2008). Taheri azar seriously injured nine people, but intended to kill many more. Some victims spoke out about their experiences. One victim, Larry Allsep, stated When the jeep got close, I smelled the fumes and the gas. He also said that he went up onto the hood and was thrown off. Allsep suffered many injuries from the attack, including a broken wrist and tail ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Hair Designs In Ancient Egypt The ancient Egyptians were one of the first world civilizations to exist on our planet being the first to set parameters. I often wonder if they knew they were the first. When they were creating things such as the toothbrush and the calendar did they feel like they were inventing for all of humanity? Or, were they just creating things based on their needs in the present moment not realizing the impact it would have on the Africa and beyond? After my research, I found out that they were the original creators of one of my deepest passions the art of barbers. The ancient Egyptians believed that being clean shaven was a sign of good hygiene and class. This belief inspired them to create sharp stones that would trim their hair; by advancing this technology they were able to carve out the first barbershop industry in world civilization. The deep desire of intricate hair designs or braids, short hair or shaven heads, or the desire for hair wigs organically led to the need of tools that could revision their hair. In research done by W. Flinders Petries describes the relationship of hair design in ancient Egypt by stating, There were periods when the head was clean shaven, others when it was left to grow, cropped short or worn shoulder long or even longer by both men and women. Egyptians invention of the first barber tools begin 6,000 years ago where nobles crafted their barber tools out of sharpened flint, shell, or stone. As time continued the tools continued to become more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Who s Got No Game Reflecting on the topic of Men In Relationships, Neill Korobov s article He s Got No Game (2009) was particularly interesting to me, specifically the concept of the lovable loser. This archetype is en vogue in a vast majority of comedic films for more than a decade. More recent examples are typified by actors like Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Jay Baruchel, to name just a few. In spite of how prolific this emerging masculine character has become, Korobov rightly states that this persona is unlikely to be employed by any males other than younger white guys. Unsurprisingly, the aforementioned movie genre is targeted towards this very demographic. This conjures questions of whether life imitates art, or vice versa. We know from Holt Thompson s writing that men consume their particular brand of masculinity, and this loveable loser anti hero is no exception. Korobov s approach to understanding emerging masculinities through discursive analysis is fascinating although observing actual human behaviour can be considered far more accurate, the ways in which we speak about things have a certain creative power. The things that we say off the cuff are often an accurate reflection of the culture we live in. In Korobov s study, he explained that he did his best to create an environment where young men s discourse could emerge naturally, but we know intuitively that such an attempt is fraught with many difficulties which can include observer bias, impression management, and ... I am currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department at Reed College. Before joining Reed College, I was a Senior Research Associate at the CUNY Institute for Macromolecular Assemblies and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at City College of New York. I obtained my Ph.D. in Chemistry (specializing in Molecular Biophysics) at the City University of New York (CUNY) in September of 2009. My cross disciplinary research training in the areas of biophysics, spectroscopy, and materials science has involved projects in three different laboratories at CUNY, focusing on cutting edge technologies and analytical ... For instance, insoluble and amorphous eumelanin pigment assemblies of the human fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans are associated with microbial virulence and therapeutic drug resistance; I have employed multi dimensional magnetic resonance spectroscopy to deconstruct the heterogeneous (supra) molecular frameworks of these chemically recalcitrant organic pigment assemblies synthesized from obligatory catecholamine precursors, shedding light on the action of these poorly understood fungal virulence factors. This research work has involved extensive collaborative studies with Professor Arturo Casadevall s immunology and microbiology laboratory at Johns Hopkins University. I have developed a broad knowledge of modern organic chemistry and synthetic methods as well as I have gained practical experience with a wide range of bioanalytical techniques and NMR spectroscopic methods for characterizing biomolecules and biopolymers, involving the concepts and methodologies of structure based molecular design as well as method development for structure elucidation. I have pursued my research in multiple CUNY research groups that focus on materials science, photonics technologies, structural biology, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. • 8. Kelloggs Case Study g sName: University: Course: Tutor: Date: Kellogg s Case Study Question One: There are three key sectors of the supply chain, namely; primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. The former encompasses all processes and activities geared towards transforming natural resources into primary products which are then to be used in manufacturing finished products (Choi, 2011). For instance, the forestry industry falls under the primary sector bearing in mind the fact that it focuses on transforming a natural resource, i.e. trees, into a primary product (timber). On the other hand, the secondary sector is concerned with transforming the primary products generated from the primary sector into finished products. For instance, Kellogg s is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This gives a candid explanation as to why Kellogg s entered into an agreement with Tesco meant to allow its products to continue being displayed in the latter s stores. Kellogg s collaboration with tertiary sector entities can also be attributed to its allure in ensuring it continues to purport successful business activities. For instance, maintaining good relationships with banks makes it possible for the entity to acquire additional funds to finance its operations or investment activities (Leeman, 2010). Question Four: The major benefit that can be realized from the decision of large manufactures like Kellogg s to outsource some its activities to specialist companies like TDG is that of making the former s supply chain and distribution channels to become more efficient. The achievement of this objective is usually facilitated through the emphasis of these specialist entities to employ computerized systems while purporting stock handling and logistic functions for their clients, with this enhancing the timely and cost efficient delivery of stock in the larger manufacturers retail stores (Choi, 2011). Moreover, these specialists assist larger firms such as Kellogg s to minimize the wastages which normally occur within their supply chains, more so through streamlining their transportation, distribution and storage systems (Leeman, ... • 9. Ethanol and Gas Prices Essays Ethanol and Gas Prices Do the gas prices frustrate you every time you pull up to the pump? Gas companies are charging too much for the natural resource that is turned into what we know as gasoline. Gas companies discourage research and new ideas every year. Afraid of losing the market that they have cornered they buy patents. This way the patents will never be used and they still have the market cornered. Ethanol is a much safer and more economical solution to our gas problem. It is cleaner burning and it can be produced from year to year. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethanol is produced with the help of farmers. It comes from the common cash crop called corn. These crops are grown throughout the United States and mainly in the Midwest. They can be produced every year and hauled straight to the local plant. Using ethanol would help these struggling farmers. The corn prices have been down for some time and the economic help from using ethanol would be astronomical. Farmers would haul more corn each year because of the demand that the ethanol plant brings. The demand for grain created by ethanol production increases net farm income more than $12 billion annually (ethanol info). In the future the demand for ethanol would be greater which would produce a larger farm income each year. Ethanol could help the farmers more than anything else. The raise in income would be dramatic because the use of ethanol today is only minimal and it produces $12 billion in income each year. The more ethanol used the more the annual income it will produce. This would cause the corn price to go up and more farmers would be able to stay in business. There would be no more struggles with foreign nations to get better oil prices. The money that is spent on the imports of oils from other countries will not be needed as much and hopefully in the future will not be needed at all. • 10. Essay on Vietnam Weapons of the Vietnam War In late 1961, America took physical force in the Vietnam War. War is a complex series of political events that leads to physical involvement in the form of armed combat. Technology is a major deciding factor in war, along with the battle tactics used, terrain, experience and professionalism of the opposing forces. By 1961 both the United States and Vietnam had developed a broad array of guns and weapons to fight off one another. Coupled with battle tactics this provides a deadly and extremely hostile environment. In the beginning of the war the weapon of choice for the support troops was the M1 Carbine. The high explosive had a range of 400m and a blast radius of 5m. Before the M 203, infantry used a weapon called the M 79 grenade launcher. Which largely resembled a sawn off shotgun. The M 79 was designed to take up the gap between maximum hand grenade distance, and minimum mortar fire distance. It could fire an array of projectiles which included darts, buck shots, smoke, gas and flares. The M 79 was ideal in Vietnam terrain. Although the M 16 was very easy to use in the field, some of the U.S. Armies Special Forces used a gun very similar to the M 16. The XM 177E2 or more commonly the colt commando or the CAR 15, had telescoping stock for easy handling and could be used more like an SMG instead of an assault rifle which made the CAR 15 a great choice for combat situations where fighting would be extremely close. Analysis Of Theater Of The Oppressed By Augusto Boal In Theater of the Oppressed , Augusto Boal argues that theater is inherently political and that traditional, Aristotelian theater is inherently oppressive. He reviews the history of theater, from Aristotle through Machiavelli, Hegel, and Brecht, and proposes a new idea of theater that breaks the bounds between audience and performers, and between chorus and protagonist. In the Introduction , Boal introduces his main proposition, that theater is inherently political. He presents conflicting classical ideas of whether the theater is merely entertainment or is fundamentally political. The audience empathizes with this trait, and the virtuous character. When the flaw leads the character to tragedy, the audience pities the character and fears for themselves, who share this trait. Through the character s downfall, the trait is suppressed in the audience. How does Art imitate Nature? Well Aristotle seems to think that Art imitates nature means that Art recreates the creative principle of created things. Not in the sense that it mimics things in the world, but that it re cerates nature. In this sense, art utilizes the creative principal of created things. Artistic items are not exact reproductions, but contain much of the same tenets as the original so as to impart knowledge and understanding about that item. Boal describes ideas of the thinkers of Aristotle s time and how Aristotle may have developed this point of view. Boal concludes this sub section of section one with the idea of knowledge and how it is presented. He suggests that through dialectics and the debate of ideas knowledge ascends. The Parable Of The Alert Servant Made Simple Essay The Parable of the Alert Servant Made Simple (Mark 13:33 37) By Matthew Payne Jan 11, 2012 Mark 13:33 37 reads: Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going out to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to you all: Watch! Throughout the New Testament, Jesus shared all about the signs of the time. He had been sharing that there will be false Christs and there will be tribulation. The stars of Heaven will fall and all sorts of things will happen before the coming of the end of days. Jesus is much more than a wonderful person. While reading or listening to these parables, I hope you will fully understand who He is and what is really going on. Today, Jesus has in fact gone to a far country. This is no longer a parable. While it is true that when Jesus was on earth, this was a parable with a funny significance, He had not yet gone to that far country but now Jesus has gone away. Ambiguous concepts of insolvency between temporary lack of liquidity S588G impose a duty on directors stop a company trading while it is insolvent or would become insolvent. The provision requires directors take any reasonable steps to prevent incurring debts and maintain the maximum abilities to pay the present creditors or protect future creditors. The ultimately objective is to protect the creditors. According to S588G, as long as the directors suspect that the company is insolvent or would become insolvent and fail to prevent a company from insolvent trading, he or she would potentially personal liable for all the debts incurred since insolvency. Under S95A, A company is insolvent if it is unable to pay all its debts when they become due for payment (Hanrahan, 2015). Analysis of Women in the Book of Judges Essay When interpreting the Hebrew Bible from a feminist perspective, many are quick to decry the subjugation of women at the hands of men and the lack of female representation in dominant roles in biblical literature. However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this claim of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not discarded as characters and are not wholly unappreciated. In fact, the book of Judges features many strong female characters who serve in significant roles, and who are effectively portrayed as leaders, heroes, and capable, resourceful individuals. An excellent example of an influential woman in Judges is Deborah. From the beginning, Deborah is identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in honor of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted parallels drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177). Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader chosen by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to the Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy into their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God. Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this specific role) (Shapira 28). Deborah, however, is an exception. Although she is a prophetess, she is also relevant in society, and fulfills multiple roles. She successfully leads the charge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Skepticism provides a more evaluative and complex response to the reductionist acquisition of knowledge by rejecting any form of absolute knowledge. Reductionism provides a holistic way to describe the functions of knowledge in theories proposed by Descartes, yet these functions can be further reduced to more obscure or even non existent causalities. More so, antireductionism is not a sufficient means of describing the underlying functions of knowledge, since it seeks to define the absolute foundations of a system of thought in a non holistic manner. This is why skepticism is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this form of rationalism, the process of discerning the parts of the whole becomes the method of validating knowledge, yet these compartmentalized methods can also be falsely interpreted through the senses. The skeptic would countermand this approach by arguing that the parts of knowledge can also be false and/or/ non existent, because they have the same subjective qualities as those found in the reductionist method. For example, Descartes might tell us that the existence of angels would prove the existence of God. Angels are a subset of God s power in heaven, which would assume that we do not need to directly prove the existence of God because of the existence of angels. However, Angles are also subjective literary figures in the Bible, which defines why antireductionist methods can be equally false. In this manner, Descartes argument about the existence of the mind is based on personal opinions related to the bible, which an antireductionist might utilize to validate an argument: A central Cartesian idea, then, is that we know ourselves and our own thoughts and experiences best (Week 5: Rationalism Notes, p.1). Although an antireductionist might disagree with Descartes holistic reductionism of the mind (and God s existence), they might also, on the other hand, be convinced of the God s existence through the existence of Angels. ... • 30. Malcom X Comparison The Autobiography of Malcom X by Malcom X is a book that shares many common themes as I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Both books deal with the racial inequality of African American in the United States. Both books are autobiographies that show the graphic lives of two African Americans. However, The Autobiography of Malcom X focuses more on a controversial historical figure than on the childhood of a young African American girl. This controversial figure is often depicted negatively in media and is overlooked or forgotten about in history classes that focus on Martin Luther King Jr. Interestingly, Malcom X is often portrayed darker in media than he was in reality. MLK, on the other hand, is often shown with a lighter skin tone. This difference speaks volumes to the perception of the two activists. Reading his autobiography educates people on the reality of Malcom X s beliefs and life story. Like Angelou s autobiography Malcom X has a distinct perception of White people as the ideal, at least at the start of the novel. I Endured all of that pain...to have it look like a white man s hair (X, 1965). Both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 31. Male And Female Relationships In Prison It is nothing new that relationships occur within the prisons. This includes male and females. However, the article we read stated that male and female relationships are quite different. For males, these relationships are geared with control and violence, as the females it s quite the opposite. I think that guards should be allowed to encourage familial relationships but not sexual relationships. I m sure that trying to stop family type relationship would provide quite difficult in the first place. Having this kind of structure in prison could be beneficial to those that have never experienced it and would also help some in the rehabilitation process. Sexual relationships in jail would not do any justice towards rehabilitation but would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Decision Of Roe V. Wade The decision of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case that legalized abortion in the United States, had a very evident and profound impact on the social and political climates of the United States. Before the case, it had seemed that abortion was a settled issue in America: a majority of people opposed the practice, and a majority of states had abortion bans. However, by the 1960 s, political factions and campaigns were rising up and stirring the waters of reproductive rights. Abortion had changed during the courses of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries, morphing from a private practice of the people into a great political divide. Abortion was actually easily accessible during the Nineteenth Century, but the rise of religious fundamentalism compelled citizens to become involved in either the protection of the fetus or the defense of reproductive rights. Roe v. Wade had been either labeled as the legal settling of the abortion issue or the igniter of change in regards to abortion. The decision not only affected the minds of the people, but the decision had also set a legal precedent that affected more than thirty Supreme Court cases that later dealt with abortion (Planned Parenthood). As previously stated, abortion was quite accessible during the Nineteenth Century simply because it was classified as a private matter between a woman and her doctor. Although medical practices were drastically different during that period, doctors performed very effective techniques to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Victor Frankenstein Film Analysis Victor Frankenstein 2015 Victor Frankenstein 2015 is a science fiction, thriller and horror film that is based on the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley. The film was directed by Paul Mcguian and starred Daniel Radcliffe as Igor and James McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein (McGuigan). Unlike other film adaptations based on the same novel, the film is narrated from Igor s perspective. Igor is a young assistant who is working closely with his over ambitious friend Victor. Victor is also a young medical student who will stop at nothing to achieve his scientific goals. The director lets the film rolls from Igor s perspective in order to allow the audience to understand and appreciate the emergence of Frankenstein as scientists that the audience knows to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He proves this when conversing with Igor in the lab when the latter says, Victor, you promised me that this was all about life , Victor remarks in awe that it was about so much more than life (Frankenstein). The film was written by Max Landis and is significantly different from most versions of the same story (Coming to Life). It attempts to take a third person perspective in order to reflect on the temperament of the main character, Victor Frankenstein. Using third person narration, Max manages to vilify Victor s character by shining a light on his recklessness. This is particularly important given that the Mary s novel allowed the audience to empathize with Victor due to the loss of his family members and fiancé. In this adaptation, the writer ensures that Victor is unhinged and carefree but a loyal friend to Igor and other people in his life. In addition to being brash, Victor is humorous in most of the scenes. This is implied when Igor pleads with him to rethink the experiments since the police were after the duo. While his friend Igor wanted to make a world a better place and hopefully be remembered for inventing new ways of healing the sick, Victor seeks to redefine the meaning of life and death. From the writing, it is clear that Victor did not really intend to get anybody hurt. His character is simply deranged and he ends up risking the lives of the people around him. The writer ... • 34. Bio-X Make-Up Work Paper Habib Khoury Due 08/05/2015 Bio X Make up Work Robert Malenka Robert Malenka is a professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Professor Malenka s laboratory mainly conducts work in two areas of research: the importance of long lasting activity dependent changes in the efficacy of synaptic transmission to the development of neural circuits, and the effects of drug abuse to synaptic actions. The first area of research focuses on the understanding of molecular events that lead to synaptic plasticity and changes in synaptic efficacy. Professor Malenka s laboratory induces dominant negative mutations in different synaptic proteins to study their functions and aims to understand their effect on synaptic plasticity using cellular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During walking and running, leg muscles produce forces that impact the tibiofemoral joint. These forces can have a negative impact on the development, health and maintenance of the cartilage and meniscus in that joint (and increased load on the knees and the tibiofemoral joint can result in osteoarthritis). The tibiofemoral load is varied depending on the muscle coordination patterns. The laboratory created a musculoskeletal model of subject to analyze the tibiofemoral load, and an optimization framework to calculate the load from muscle coordination. Using the model and optimization framework, the laboratory was able to understand the impact of different muscle coordination on the tibiofemoral load. The laboratory was able to precisely predict tibiofemoral forces when compared to in vivo measurements during the early stance phase, but overshot its prediction during the late stance phase. The over prediction of the tibiofemoral load was due to the extended activity of the gastrocnemius and the rectus femoris. The laboratory was able to modify the activity of these two muscles to increase resemblance with in vivo measurements. The laboratory was also able to identify distinct changes in muscle activity that could decrease tibiofemoral load. A decrease in activation of the rectus femoris and gastrocnemius and an increase in activation of the soleus, gluteus medium and uniarticular hip flexors can decrease the tibiofemoral forces during late ...
