Characteristics Of Jay In The Great Gatsby
My life has got to be like this, it s got to keep going up (Fitzgerald). It is this kind of attitude towards
life that makes James Gatz great. He is a very motivated man who is always looking for ways to
improve. From the time he was a boy in North Dakota, it was clear that James was going to be
successful. When he ran away from home, it was the beginning of the ascent of his life. Gatsby is
great because of his determination, independence, and imagination.
When Gatsby meets Daisy, he is in love at first sight. Jay is in military training at Camp Taylor in
Louisville, Kentucky when they first meet. Daisy comes from a very wealthy family, and had no idea
that Gatsby is, in fact, very poor. This relationship would be acceptable for Daisy s family, and Gatsby
knows that. This motivates him to live the kind of lifestyle that the reader sees when he first meets
Gatsby. Jay is determined to have everything absolutely perfect, all for Daisy. He wants her to see that
she can have both wealth and love if she is with him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He runs away from home as a young teen to begin living out his vision. Jay never really accepts his
parents as his parents, as they have no way to support the lifestyle he aspires to live. Gatsby s
imagination carries him to where he wants to be. Furthermore, when Gatsby s mentor Dan Kody
passes away, Jay gets his inheritance stolen right out of his hands. When he is left with no money,
Gatsby needs to figure out what to do. At this period in time, having no money can be devastating for
a person. Jay Gatsby, the independent man he is, is unaffected. He decides to enlist in the United
States Army, when he then finds himself at Camp Taylor, and eventually finds Daisy

Part A: A gristmill is used for grinding grains like wheat corn rye and oats. How the gristmill worked
was water flowed into the buckets on the waterwheel to make it turn. Gears and rods connected to the
waterwheel to the grindstones which turned and ground the grain into flour. A miller ran the grist mill
and had to know how to grind the grain properly and fix all the machinery. A boom bust town is a

because they are near schools and areas where people can shop, get groceries, etc. A place like whitby

Rhetorical Analysis Of John Lennon s Imagine
Imagine For my rhetorical analysis paper I chose to use one of the most influential British singers of
all time, John Lennon. In his song Imagine, the very first line, Imagine there s no heaven, it s easy if
you try, (John Lennon, Imagine), causes the listener to automatically begin thinking. The song is
emotionally filled and full of instances where a listener is forced to think of what Lennon is saying in
the song. Lennon was considered a very influential leader in efforts of world peace during his time,
and still to this day his messages reach across the world in his music. Songs such as Imagine which
still have a strong and powerful message decades after its first release. Lennon had a simple style and
approach which left nothing for deliberation, leading the listener straight to the point of his messages.
Imagine is one of the best examples of this, Lennon establishes his point multiple times throughout
this song and it creates a bond with his listeners which in turn creates a trust within himself and his
words.
After listening to the song, I can automatically tell what the message of the song is that Lennon is
portraying, and that is world peace. Lennon does an amazing job establishing his credibility in this
song, thus creating credibility within his audience, credibility is part of Ethos. Throughout his musical
career right up until his death in 1980, Lennon was heavily involved in peace activities. During his
musical career he was part of the world famous Beatles, and this gained him world fame and allowed
for his messages to be heard across the world. Lennon created even more Ethos for himself in a
controversial album, where he posed naked with his wife, Yoko Ono, in there bed. This showed his fan
base and the world that he was truly devoted to peace and love. Without his famous involvement in the
Beatles, Lennon would never have gained his spotlight in the world allowing for his messages of
peace and love to be heard. His ethos was within his people, not where he got his ideas. Lennon felt
what the world felt, and thus his credibility. When Lennon wrote Imagine , and penned the words, You
may say that I m a dreamer, but I m not the only one, I hope someday you ll

Shapeshifting Darkness In Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To...
Shapeshifting Darkness
World War I was a time of constant worry because of destruction caused to the European countryside.
Ernest Hemingway depicts an American ambulance driver working for the Italian army through the
Great War in the semi autobiographical A Farewell to Arms, incorporating elements of his own
experience in the war into that of his narrator Fredric Henry. At the beginning of Chapter Twenty One,
death and destruction is mentioned only before a one sided conversation with a British major that
leaves Henry bored. This passage also portrays Hemingway s dark but witty style through his
discursive and wistful tone, varied figures of speech, and repetitive and violent diction to indicate the
uncertainty of his narrator s situation.
Hemingway s tone, displayed by Henry s lack of focus and wistful remarks on past events, mirrors the
disconnect from the events of the front as well as the narrator s boredom. Fredric Henry laments
because that [t]he fighting at the front went very badly , there was no more racing as well as riots
twice in the town against the war (Hemingway 116). As the narrator looks back on these events, there
is also an element of longing towards the amusements of the past. By also removing himself from the
riots and the fighting, there is a disconnect from Henry and the war, adding to the darkness of the
passage. As Henry s mind drifts from the conversation of war to the beautiful boots of a British major,
the discursive tone further

Examples Of Police Abuse Of Power
Absolute power corrupts absolutely,is a saying that states that power tends to corrupt and that great
men are almost always bad men. Abuse of power has been relevant throughout history . the police
abused their power when they beat Rodney King and gave people cause to protest. The L.A. riots were
a dark few days in Los Angeles s history and is still a driving force behind the black power movement
The police let their powers corrupt on one fateful night. On march 3 1991 Rodney King a black
motorist was driving home when he led highway patrol on a high speed chase. ¨Rodney King was
beaten on march 3 1991 and filmed by onlooker George Holliday, who sold the footage to a local
news company .¨(Rodney King Case and the Los Angeles Riot.).the police would claim that he was
resisting arrest and driving under the influence, but that doesn t explain the beating. After months the
trial would be moved to Simi Valley a mainly white suburb due to widespread publicity. The charges

who or what the hurt. ¨ At 6:45, the news recorded from helicopter, showed rioters pulling Reginald
Denny a white truck driver, from his vehicle and beat him.¨ (Los angeles riots of 1992) the 4 men who
beat him had little regard for his life as they continually beat him till four people emerged from the
crowd to rescue him. When the people saw the carnage of the riots on tv people called on rodney king
to tell them to stop. ¨Can we all get along¨ Rodney King pleaded on television on the 3rd day of the
riots.¨ after the plead half of the rioters stopped and the rest could ve cared less because they didn t see
it as his riot they saw it as a free pass to do whatever they wanted, but they would be arrested soon.

The Constitution And The Legislative Branch
The Constitution set up our government with three separate branches, judicial, executive, and
legislative. These are not independent branches, the constitution has also set up a system of checks
and balances for each of the three branches of government to check and balance the other two. This is
a very important concept; it ensures us that no one branch of government becomes too strong. Every
branch of government has to check and balance the other two. Every society needs some sort of law to
follow; here in the United States the power to make laws is dedicated to the legislative branch, put into
effect and enforced by the executive branch and is interpreted and judged by the judicial branch.

Congress also conducts hearings to keep oversight. The speaker of the house of representatives is
elected by the house as a whole. They act as a leader of the house, combines roles of the institutional
role of presiding officer and administrative head of the house, role of the leader of the majority party
in the house, and the representative role of an elected member of the house. There are more than two
hundred committees and subcommittees that divide congress s legislative oversight and internal
administrative tasks.
The three main types of committees are standing, select, and joint. Standing committees have
legislative jurisdiction, consider bills and issues and recommend measures to handle said issue. They
also have oversight responsibilities to monitor programs within their jurisdictions. Select committees
generally are established by a separate resolution of the chamber. Most often, select committees
analyze rising issues which do not fit within an existing standing committees jurisdiction, or that cross
a boundary line between two standing committees. Select committees could be permanent or
temporary, also a select committee may have certain restrictions on member tenure. Instead of select,
they could be called special committees. Joint committees are made up of members of both the house
of representatives as well as the senate. Today s joint committees are permanent and conduct studies

Analysis Of George Orwell s The First Place
The main purpose of an exposition is to bring out the relationship between the book and law. It not
only takes into consideration the laws that are coded, but also the basic and natural laws that govern
our everyday lives. This part shall highlight the reasons as to why the novel was written in the first
place. It shall answer questions like why did the author bother to pick up a pen, articulate his thoughts
into words, and take time to write such a lengthy piece in an organised manner. This part calls for
exploration and asks the reader to delve into the intricacies of the thought process and beliefs of the
author.
It is said that George Orwell underwent a huge deal of trouble, not only mentally, but physically as

First I spent five years in an unsuitable profession (The Indian Imperial Police, in Burma), and then I
underwent poverty and the sense of failure. This increased my natural hatred of authority and made
me for the first time fully aware of the existence of the working classes, and the job in Burma had
given me some understanding of the nature of imperialism: but these experiences were not enough to
give me an accurate political orientation. Then came Hitler, the Spanish Civil War, etc. By the end of
1935 I had still failed to reach a firm decision. The Spanish war and other events in 1936 37 turned the
scale and thereafter I knew where I stood. Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936
has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I
understand it. It seems to me nonsense, in a period like our own, to think that one can avoid writing of
such subjects. Everyone writes of them in one guise or another. It is simply a question of which side
one takes and what approach one follows. And the more one is conscious of one s political bias, the
more chance one has of acting politically without sacrificing one s aesthetic and intellectual integrity.

Baroque Era Research Paper
In the early Middle Ages, the human voice, God s creation within us, had been regarded in the sacred
realm as being the only instruments we needed. The church considered the use of instruments as
profane. There was no musical notation as songs were passed along from person to person by rote
memorization. In the secular world, instruments were used at times by jongleurs, trouveres, and
minnesingers. Some of those early instruments include the vielle, harp, psaltery, flute, shawm,
bagpipe, and drums (Thomas et al.). Those instruments were most likely used in an accompaniment
capacity, but since musical notation in the secular world was not really happening during this period,

The forces grew in size and became more widely used across many genres of music. Composers such
as Bach built large works that included many instruments to go along with vocalists. The Opera,
setting a play completely to music, emerged and used many instruments as accompaniment. A basso
continuo was the early rhythm section in the Baroque period which included a keyboard instrument
such as harpsichord, organ or clavichord and a bass instrument such as cello, violone, or bassoon.
Figured bass notation was written with interval numbers above a bass line to tell the keyboardist what
intervals to use to build the chords. Bach s Flute Sonata in C Major, BWV 1033 is an example of this
technique with one melodic line on the top staff with a single bass line with numbers underneath in the
second bass clef staff. Instrument making techniques also improved with technology during this
period which allowed instrument makers to streamline their processes and create instruments faster
and for less money. This made instrument buying even more affordable and proliferated the spread
instruments around Europe (Westrup

Mass Shootings
Over this past decade, an increase in mass shootings has raised a concern in the control of firearms.
With the ever growing number of shootings, the death rate due to firearms has intensified. Thus, the
controversy over gun control has caused society to push the government to re evaluate the regulation
of firearms in the United States. Hence, in order to keep and provide a safe environment for American
citizens without fear of death by firearm, the government should regulate firearms.
According to the Second Amendment, it states, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (Lund and
Winkler). With that said, most civilians do not possess firearms ... Show more content on

The comparison between the two states show how drastically gun regulations can influence the death
rate by firearms. In the state of Wyoming, firearm sellers are not required to check gun owner
backgrounds. Therefore, gun owners are not obligated to register their guns or have a gun license.
That is to say, there is little to no gun regulations in Wyoming giving it the number one spot in the
highest gun related deaths. On the other hand, Massachusetts has the laws that regulate the possession,
sale, and use of firearms and ammunition. Once the applicant has sent in their application for a guns
permit or license, the applicant must wait 40 days in which the authorities may deny or grant them
permission to carry a firearm ( Concealed Weapons ). As stated by the Law Center to Prevent Gun
Violence, Massachusetts is a may issue state for the issuance of licenses to carry firearms, meaning
that the local licensing authority has discretion in determining whether or not to issue either license
type to an applicant ( Concealed Weapons ). In this case, Massachusetts is significantly stricter than
Wyoming and any other state in the country. Thus, with its strict gun laws, it has the lowest gun
related death rate and is ranked as fifty on the charts of gun related deaths (Hendry 2015). This further

Allegory In Lord Of The Flies Essay
The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding uses allegory to convey its theme. How does he use
allegory to convey the themes within the book? In the book, he uses objects and some of the stranded
boys to illustrate the many themes that he had creatively woven into the book. Along with telling a
story about boys that were stranded on an island, he creatively sent out an important message through
allegory. In the book Lord of the Flies, Golding uses allegory to convey his themes, and one of the
allegory used was a signal fire. The signal fire represents a measurement of strength of civilized
instinct the island had left. The signal fire was one of the boy s last chances to survive. The fire itself

Pinocchio Essay
Introduction:
Pinocchio is one of the most celebrated works in Italian literature. It was written by Carlo Lorenzi in
1883. Like many other writers in Italy at that time he wrote it under a pseudonym Carlo Collodi.
Collodi himself was a firm believer in education and one of his main goals was to educate young
people, at one point declaring. Open a school, and you will close a prison (Collodi in Person, p 141).
His novel about Pinocchio continually portrays the virtues of education and the evils of sloth. When
Pinocchio tries to avoid school and disobeys his father by running away, he suffers many misfortunes
as being abducted, jailed or transformed in to a donkey. But when he obeys what Geppetto tells him,

Online Education And Its Impact On College Students
Throughout the past decade, technology has advanced swiftly and significantly. The effects of such
advancements can be seen from the way that people keep in touch through social media, to the way
that people check out their groceries through self checkout lanes. It is only natural that the spread of
technology would eventually reach the educational level. To keep up with the changing times, online
schooling institutions have entered the educational arena. These institutions have produced many
bright students and college graduates; however, there is an abundance of critics who do not see the
validity of such schools. Contrary to the critics thoughts, online school is a valuable, legitimate option
that prepares students for success while remaining flexible. As online education rises in popularity, the
amount of educated individuals will also grow.
Online education fits in with college students ever changing lives. College students are amongst some
of the busiest people; therefore, it can be a challenge to create a school schedule that fits in with other
responsibilities. A flexible schedule is essential for these students academic success. Online education
provides the flexible schedule that is necessary for students to learn at a time that works for them,

French Culture Essay
The French are all about preserving their culture and being individualized. They often take great pride
in the French products and the French style, and believe in keeping the French culture pure so they
also limit the amount of foreign goods that are being imported. But during the World Wars the French
began to allow foreigners to immigrate into France to take jobs due to an increase in job shortages.
The immigration from the World Wars added to the diversity of the French culture. Ever since the

But, France did allow foreigners to immigrate into France after the World Wars, but this is of coarse is
going to add to the diversity of culture in France. When the French needed foreigners, they did not
mind that they came into their country, knowing that it would create diversity of religion. But now,
they are not allowing religious symbols in schools because the French want to preserve their language
and culture. So, it seems a bit ironic don t you think?
Currently, the French want to ban the wearing of religious symbols in public schools so that there is no
social tension, and to keep the main religion in France (Roman Catholicism) pure (Gofen 63). But
even though the French say they want to keep their culture pure, in reality since the world wars,
religions such as Islam and Judaism have in fact become a part of their culture. Once again, the French
let in other cultures knowingly, and once the cultural diversity begins, all the religions are apart of a
country s culture. An example of a religious symbol that the French are considering to ban is the
Burka. A Burka is an outfit worn by Muslim females that cover them head to toe. Some, who want to
ban the burka say that it is disrespectful to women and can be degrading. But, 64 million people in
France are Muslim. By wearing a Burka they are just following their religion and are also following
tradition (French). One other big controversy regarding religious symbols is the banning of

As we come to the end of the term looking back at the previous diversity summaries I find that this
one in particular gave me more of an encouragement to think beyond what I already knew or didn t

knowledge of other religions I was not expecting to see some that I have never even heard of before,
or how much a person s sexual orientation can have impacts on their lives. As for disabilities, I have a

people with other disabilities, to grasp a deeper recognition of what it means to be a disabled person in
the United States. Moving forward, I hope to summarize the presentations presented to the class on the
final diversity topics and include my insight on them as well. For this diversity topic, learning about
other religions should make us aware of the various world religions that exist. For us, these
presentation summaries give way to how each person interviewed is affected either by other in their

but our watersheds as well. The chemicals in use in our school are those that cause damage to our
health, they cause this damage with ingredients that are not completely user friendly. A watershed is a
drainage basin, which is a natural depression in the earth s surface, usually containing water, and a
divider that separates different areas. Here in Colorado we have two main watersheds, but we also
have several streams considered watersheds. We are in the Cache La Poudre watershed. A watershed is
the transport of different water and it is what is used to drain water into other basins, or oceans or any
bigger water masses. It has stream valleys that bring water to other bodies of water, in which
evaporate and return to the top. This is a constant stream in which is basically recycling water, so we
want to keep the water healthy and ready for us to use. In a certain quote, we understand the dangers
of what we do to our watersheds with urbanization, flooding becomes more prevalent as the area of
impervious surfaces increase. (Perlman, 2016). This quote is saying that the more surface area that
was given, such as parking lots, the more runoff comes from our flooding periods. This could be a
danger in our school environment, because we use several chemicals as cleaners. I found greener
cleaning supplies from not only our current distributor, but one of distributor that

Why Did The Anasazi Disappear
One of the first groups of people to dwell in North America were the Ancestral Puebloans also known
as the Anasazi. They were a tribe that lived in the Four Corners region which we know today as Mesa
Verde. They lived there for hundreds of years and did very well but eventually something drove them
out to leave their homes. There are many possible and unknown reasons why the Anasazi disappeared
from their cliff dwellings and what remains of them to this day in Pueblo Colorado. Drought and crop
failures, and the over use of land and its resources such as soils, forests, and animals that became
depleted are the main reasonings for their disappearance. This made them move on to look for new
opportunities somewhere else (National Park Service ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were times of shortened cropping seasons but that it was never anything so bad that one would
have to move away. In fact, shortly after the Anasazi left there is now proof that there was a lot of
wetness and rain that happened right after but they still chose not to come back. Some archaeologists
studied that there was violence that started to go on in the village which drove the people out. But
among all of the different reasonings Johnson made one thing clear in stating that the Pueblo people
didn t just dry up and blow away like so much parched corn. They restructured their societies, tried to
adapt and when all else failed they moved on (2008, 1). There are many different archaeologists who
are still studying the abandonment of the Anasazi people and arguing the reasons why they left. Even
Keith Kloor stated in the Insider: Who were the Anasazi? the whole thing is a controversial claim to an
ancient legacy. He goes on to discuss how it wasn t just the Anasazi at the cliff dwellings in Mesa
Verde Colorado that abandoned their home there, but it also happened to the Anasazi people in
northwestern New Mexico in Chaco Canyon, another ancient site (2009,

Go Ask Alice Abuse
Drug Addiction Drug overdose was the leading cause of injury death in 2012. Among people 25 to 64
years old, drug overdose caused more deaths than motor vehicle traffic crashes (Centers for Disease

attentive approach, she writes about her experiences, speculations, and involvements within many
issues such as weight loss, teenage angst, sexuality, social acceptance, and most importantly the topic
of drug abuse. This leads to her realization of her deliberate problem with drugs and sexual activities.

that she was only one of thousands of drug deaths that year. (Go Ask Alice 214)

All of the other passengers are sober, and will go to their proper seats unless it is already occupied; In
that case, they will randomly choose a free seat. You re person number 100. What is the probability
that you end up in your seat (i.e., seat #100)?. Solution: Let s consider seats #1 and #100. There are
two possible outcomes: E1: Seat #1 is taken before #100; E2: Seat #100 is taken before #1. If any
passenger takes seat #100 before #1 is taken, surely you will not end up in you own seat. But if any
passenger takes #1 before #100 is taken, you will definitely end up in you own seat. By symmetry,
either outcome has a probability of 0.5. So the probability that you end up in your seat is 50%.
Explanation: If the drunk passenger takes #1 by chance, then it s clear all the rest of the passengers
will have the correct seats. If he takes #100, then you will not get your seat. The probabilities that he
takes #1 or #100 are equal. Otherwise assume that he takes the n th seat, where n is a number between
2 and 99. Everyone between 2 and (n 1) will get his own seat. That means the n th passenger
essentially becomes the new drunk guy with designated seat #1. If he chooses #1, all the rest of the
passengers will have the correct seats. If he takes #100, then you will not get your seat. (The
probabilities that he takes #1 or #100 are again

The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
I. Introduction The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act ( FCPA ) is the first globally enforcing statute
making anti corruption effort in the world. It has been known for the broad enforcement coverage in
terms of the worldwide governing jurisdiction and anti gaming legislative approach leading to a long
time debates and discussions among practitioners and law commentators. This paper will focus on
improving one of the undefined and broadly interpreted terms instrumentality in the anti bribery
provisions of FCPA which essentially serves as the catch all legislative device to prevent gaming,
however, on the other hand, leaving problems in terms of ambiguity in interpretation. This paper will
first provide an overview of the FCPA. Second, this paper will explain the global enforcement impact
for the multi national businesses. Thirdly, this paper will discuss the importance and problems of the
term instrumentality applied in the anti bribery provisions of FCPA. Then, this paper will try to
identify the essence of instrumentality and its related problems through studying relevant cases.
Finally, this paper will offer solutions in order to solve the current problems related to instrumentality
interpretation and draw the conclusion. For the purpose of narrowing the focus of this paper, the
discussion and analysis will be mainly based on the anti bribery provisions of FCPA regulating the
issuers. II. Overview of FCPAA. Triggering Events of Enacting FCPA Back to 1970s,

The Importance Of Cognitive Development In Willy Wonka And...
Childhood, as we all know, is the state or period of being a child; the early period in the development
of something (Merriam Webster). The movie Willy Wonka the Chocolate Factory (1971) illustrates
five different children with each having different behavior, and they have one thing in common they
are the only child in their family. These children are in the middle childhood, primary school age,
around age seven or eight. What makes them different from each other is interesting. It allows the
viewers to think if their behavior is either result of their experience or how they were raised. How they
perceive things and how they behave are part of their cognitive development. The major domain of
early childhood development is their cognitive development and the arguable aspects of the Nature
Nurture. The term cognition refers to how the mind operates and the study of cognitive development
focuses on how the mind thinks and learns during the early years of life (Universal Class, Inc.). The
major premise of Piaget s theory is that children go through various stages of cognitive development,
all of which are distinct from one another and influenced by both nature and nurture. (Universal Class,
Inc.). Nature is what we think of as pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other
biological factors. Nurture is generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception, e.g.,
the product of exposure, experience and learning on an individual (Simply

WorldCom and The Mississippi Scheme Scandals Essay
WorldCom and The Mississippi Scheme are both large financial scandals that have occurred.
WorldCom was a telecommunication company that overstated their cash flow by reporting $7.6 billion
in operating expenses as capital expenses. WorldCom is the largest accounting scandal in US history
as of March 2002. The Mississippi Scheme was a business scheme that destroyed the economy of
France during the 1700 s. The scheme involved the loss of paper money s purchasing power as a result
of asset inflation. Both WorldCom and The Mississippi Scheme were frauds involving manipulation to

Symbolism In Go Tell It On The Mountain
In Go Tell It on the Mountain, James Baldwin works with themes of gender, violence, and change. He
does this through Florence, Gabriel, and the symbol of morning. The author is trying to say people s
decision can be determined by external factors. Florence is treated differently because she is girl.
Education is not offered to her, but to her brother who hates to learn. And he needed the education that
Florence desired far more than he, and that she might have got if he had not been born. She should
take all the responsibilities and do all the works at home as a woman. And she [mother] wanted
Florence, also, to be content helping with the washing, and fixing meals and keeping Gabriel quiet...
Florence was a girl, and all the duties of a woman; and this being so, her life in the cabin was the best
possible preparation for her future life. Her mother has different attitudes toward her and her brother.
Gabriel was the apple of his mother s eye. If he had never been born, Florence might have looked
forward to a day when she would be released from her unrewarding round of labor, when she might

Essay Kingdom Parables
Then the disciples came and said to him, Why do you speak to them in parables? And he answered

has not, even what he has will be taken away. (Matthew 13:10 12)
Jesus explains everything about the kingdom of God through parables. He also gives the reasons for
using parables to teach the people. He tells greater truths through simple stories with clear and simple
meanings. Explaining truths through stories was part of the Palestinian culture at that time. Jesus used

In certain people, the word of God falls like seeds falling amidst thistles. They are people burdened
with earthly labors, greedy after gain, and fond of pleasures. Like weeds growing up and choking up
the growth of seeds, vanity and desires for illusory comforts choke up everything good and holy in
people.
And, finally, people who accept and follow the word of God, changing their way of life in line with
the teaching of God s word, are compared to the fertile earth that yields manifold fruits. These people
not only hear the word of God, but firmly decide to follow Him, and yield hundred fold, sixty fold,

that God s word is the first step of the kingdom of God.

Speech On Focus Puller
Think you ll be able to pull focus without measuring for it? Think again, because you will not be able
to do so.
If we were to ask you the reason why the 1st assistant camera (AC) is also known as the Focus Puller ,
what would you say? It is because a follow focus puller knows how to shoulder that single
responsibility when it comes to keeping a subject in focus which is so amazingly valued, that there s
an entire job, in fact a career solely devoted to it.
There s no denying the fact that focus pullers and camera assistants have a lot more to do than just
spinning a disc which is attached to a lens for 12 hours a day, but this single act deserves the applause
being the most remarkable contribution that one makes to a film.

Measuring for focus should be the utmost goal because focus is set as well as decided upon through
distance. Without getting into lens optics, you re basically giving instructions to the lens which light
rays you want focused on the film or sensor plane at a certain distance.
Do you think your eyes you can do wonders the way tools do? Never! Your eyes will never be as
precise as your tools. Well, if you strive hard, you can achieve an exceptional level at guessing
distances, but don t you forget that not a single person will ever as exact as a dependable tape
measure? Keep in mind that guessing the distance and knowing the same are two different entities
when it comes to pulling focus.
Even until now it seems to be the most trusted way to keep a subject in focus. As far as the back focus
on a camera is set in the right way, you will not have a subject standing at 8 feet out of focus when the
lens is set to 8 feet. As simple as that!
Before the arrival of crisp monitors of digital cinema cameras and much enhanced monitoring of
contemporary film cameras, distance marks had a lot to do with how effectively you pulled focus.
With no monitor to support on, no peaking at all it was your tape measure, your eyes, and last but
certainly not least, the

The Physics Of Infrared Radiation
A vibration can result in an absorption peak of infrared radiation, only if there is a change in the dipole
moment of the molecule. The larger this change, the more intense will be the absorption band.
Furthermore, the electron polarity vectors in the covalent bond should not cancel out i.e the covalent
bonds must be asymmetric. Asymmetrical bonds carry a net polarity vector and show absorption
peaks; bonds that are centered along the plane of symmetry cancel out their polarity vectors upon
stretching and there is no net change in dipole moment. Such molecules are known to be infrared
inactive. An infrared spectrum is the plot of absorbance (or % transmission) against the wavenumber
(cm 1) (Rehman et al., 2012). Wavenumber is defined as number of waves in a length of one
centimeter and is a commonly used unit for representing spectral regions. Wavenumber is linear with
energy and is expressed with the following equation.Significant parts of the spectrum are the regions
where the molecule absorbs the infrared energy. These are shown as characteristic absorption peaks. A
molecule can only absorb radiation when the incoming infrared radiation is of the same frequency as
one of the fundamental modes of vibration of the molecule (Stuart and Barbara, 2004). The modes of
vibration usually encountered include bending, stretching, wagging and out of plane vibrations. These
molecular vibrations result in changes in dipole moments of the molecular groups and the resulting
vibrating

Environmental Ngos And Global Environmental Issues
How environmental NGOs use the media to shape global environmental issues Even though there
have been greatly public concerns about environmental issues since 1960s, practical action as the
solution seems to be useless due to the limitation of state and pressure from the corporation.
Moreover, the function of international organizations has also faced with difficulties in terms of
enforcement and regulation; therefore, there has been wide gap between actors responding to the
environmental issues. Environmental NGOs have adequately fulfilled this gap owned multiple
instruments to reach their goals, for example, conducting the environmental concerned researches,
lobbying in both domestic government and global governance and also TNCs, and more importantly
raising public awareness and collective action from below (McCormick 2005: 92). Environmental
NGOs, agent of change works in all both levels; political sphere and civil society (Ford 2011:27). At
political level, environmental NGOs act as a pressure group and lobbyist to government and TNCs.
Another level is civil society in which environmental NGOs acts in domestic levels within the nation
boundaries, and also in global level, consequently there is part of possibility of global civil society in
which people are not limited by nation boundary, but can share common value and perform collective
action as a global citizen (McCormick 2005: 93). In doing so, environmental NGOs always politicize
the issues by shaping global

The Setting Of The Novel We Were Liars
In the novel We Were Liars , the setting takes place on an island called Beechwood Island in
Massachusetts. Beechwood is a owned by Cadence Sinclair s grandparents Harris Sinclair and Tipper
Taft who unfortunately dies early on in the novel. Harris and Tipper have lots of money and were able
to build four different buildings for each aunt to live in (along with their partners and children) and a
staff building for their workers. All the families travel out to Beechwood every summer and the Liars,
Cadence, Johnny, Gat, and Mirren, are all cousins and at the age of fifteen. They name their summers
by their ages so for instance, the novel mainly takes place in summer seventeen with flashbacks to
summer fifteen from Cadence. The setting is very important because Beechwood is where all the kids
practically grow up and where conflicts take place. You would think that Beechwood island is a happy
place where memories are made and where everyone has fun, but the island is not. It sets an eerie and
unpleasant mood for the story because of all the secrets and rough family matters that occur during
summer seventeen. Beechwood island is the setting of the novel that gives off an eerie mood that
affects the Liar s summers.
Although there are a couple of main characters in the novel, We Were Liars , the one that stands out
the would be the most important main character, Cadence Sinclair. The novel is in first person and is

Analysis of Neil Postman s Amusing Ourselves to Death
Liking Form and Function It would be easy to dismiss Neil Postman as just a grumpy old man
complaining about what those young whippersnappers are up to while his generation is upholding the
values of civilization, the last vanguard against the Huns. Except for the fact that he was right: Modern
technologies have allowed individuals to withdraw into themselves, to avoid engaging in public
discourse. This imperils democracy, according to Postman, along with a number of other social critics
of the last several decades. But at least as problematic (even as perilous), according to Postman, is the
fact that many modern technologies and the social habits that accompany them, discourage any inner
dialogue as well so that both private and public lives are silenced to any meaningful content. Or at
least this is an arguable point: Whether or not it is true or the extent to which it is true is (arguably
again) dependent on the form of the technology as well as when it appeared in the life of the
individual. Television had a certain magical quality to it when it was first introduced: It had the power
to entrance those who gathered around it in suburban living rooms. This was equally true of the range
of computer based technologies. However, and this is in large measure true of all technologies, as the
virtual world has surrounded us in more and more layers, at least some of us have become more adept
at using technologies like Facebook without ceding our ability to be critical about

The Community Health Status Assessment (CHSA) is one phase of MAPP process. It identifies how
healthy the residents in Champaign s County Illinois are, and what is the current health status of the
community. CHSA also detects the quality of life of the population within the community (National
Association of County City Health Officials, 2014). From data of this phase of MAPP process,
Champaign County Illinois could understand where they are in comparison to the State of Illinois and
the nation. CHSA data includes death rates, birth rates, the top ranked communicable disease in this
region, behavioral risk factors, violent and injury crimes rates, and other social determinants may
affect the health of the people in the community (National Association of County City Health

Court takes on and demolishes a number of theories under the traditionally untouchable domain of
executive discretion. It reiterated that all executive functioning must derive legitimacy from statute
and in exercise of such functioning, strict adherence to propriety and transparency are a must.

Ethical Justification For Providing Life Saving Medicines
The ethical justification for providing life saving medicines to poor developing nations in need of
them is easily justifiable. However, distributing these drugs throughout the world at cost effective
prices, while still making profit is the ethical dilemmas that pharmaceutical companies face. Many
countries urge pharmaceutical companies to set priorities for the common good of the people, instead
of just the citizens who can gain access or afford expensive treatments. The companies also have a
duty to the shareholders of the company, especially in recouping the money that has been spent on the
research. If a company does patent its HIV/AIDS drug then they protect it from being common

Pharmaceutical companies spend millions to billions of dollars designing, developing and protecting
their properties. They deserve to reap the benefits of their work, but at what cost? Certain
circumstances should circumvent the patents protecting these life altering drugs. There are millions of
opinions on the subject, seen by the shear girth of the literature on the subject, but it is imperative that
lives do not continue to be measured in dollar signs. The balance must be designed as to protect all
parties in difficult situations like the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The battle is not always the disease versus
humans, but sometimes humans versus humans.
The answers to the questions above are much easier said than done. The majority of the people with
HIV/AIDS live in sub Saharan Africa (Figure 1) (13). As of 2013, 39 million people have died since
this disease was brought to light in the early 1980s (13). Even though this disease has been at the
forefront of research for decades, scientific advances in the field have been slow to come about. There
is no cure for the disease; however new antiretroviral treatments have allowed the virus replication to
be controlled at a more manageable level (8). There have been concentrated global efforts to spread
these drugs through the crisis areas of the disease, but efforts have not always been successful.
Unfortunately, HIV/AIDS has crippled the

It could be said that marble quarrying and processing industries belong to the oldest industries of the
world. The Ancient Egyptians, 5000 years ago, knew 40 different types of ornamental stones and
worked chiefly with granite and some types of marble such as Alabaster. Some historians assert that
the Greek and the Romans acquired the skills of quarrying and processing marble from the Ancient
Egyptians. For over a thousand years now, the economic activity of a city like Carara in Italy has been
relying on and revolving mainly around marble. Today, marble is a differentiated product that is
internationally traded. The price and value of marble depends on one hand on its natural
characteristics (like quality, type and color) and on the other hand on technological processing (giving
it a special shape, polish, size and thickness). Hence, the production of marble can be considered as
highly differentiated, and strongly dependent on level of technology use.( Azza I. Kandil and Tarek H.

Controlling Language In Animal Farm
Controlling language is a more powerful utility of communication because it fears and manipulates the
listener into what you want them to do or follow. Like many sovereigns through the ages who have
ruled with fear and control retain supreme power. One example is the pig Napoleon from George
Orwell s book, Animal Farm. Napoleon uses controlling language to force animals into kicking out
their farmer Mr. Jones, even if not everyone wants to rebel. The book Animal Farm is an extended
metaphor for the Russian revolution. Animal Farm is about a farm where the animals that the farm
contains take over, and kick out their farmer Mr. Jones. By working and keeping a stamina of power,
the animals are able to contain well working, rising farm.Throughout the book there are many
contradictions with who will withstand supreme power. Napoleon from the book uses manipulation
through controlling language to hold all power. As Niccolo Machiavelli explains in his book The
Prince, every ruler should not even try to be nice because the leaders who do rule with fear and control
will crush the ones who try to be good and fair. These are all examples of how people who dominate
with controlling language. Although there is uplifting language, it does not work as well as controlling
communication because it usually has less potency. Napoleon from Animal Farm used controlling
language to gain the rule of the animals. Napoleon is a power hungry nuisance in the form of a pig. He

Poverty In Alex And Morgan s Life
Poverty is a serious topic that most people tend to feel to uncomfortable to acknowledge. Only those
who have lived it or are living it know what it is really like, meanwhile others have no idea. Some
people lived their entire lives like this, others only just beginning, all know how difficult it is. Much of
the time, people scrounge for food, a job, some shelter, and money. Alex and Morgan have been living
an easygoing lifestyle up until the day they decided to take the challenge of going into poverty for
thirty days and earning $1,000 in deposit extra by the end. In the beginning they assumed it was going
to be easy, but by the end they were ready to get out. Having done this, the couple changed their
perspective and began to be more joyous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example when Morgan had his wrist hurt, he was torn at the subject. He could ve gone to the
hospital, but the thoughts of the fact that they could eat and travel on public transportation made him
change his mind about going to get his wrist checked out. This shows that he cared about the fact that
his fiancee wouldn t have to be on nerves about not having enough money to purchase some basic
essentials. Another example is when the children came over. The two were worried about trying to
attempt at having a fun time for the kids, but within the next few days they have decided to go to the
movie theatre for entertainment. Morgan ended up spending around $50 on the teenagers and Alex
was angry at the fact that he do this; knowing that they couldn t afford anything anymore all due to the
fact that Morgan can t say no, causing them to argue right then and there. This shows that Alex is very
responsible and wouldn t forget the things anyone tell her, meanwhile Morgan just like to please
people. A third example would be Alex s concern for the apartment. Somewhere around the ten day
mark, Morgan and Alex began to notice the ant infestation. They both felt too uncomfortable to do
anything, knowing that the ants were in the building. This made Alex realize how dull the apartment
was and want to go get furniture. Luckily they found a charity that sells furniture and clothing that is
very inexpensive, so they bought some stuff from there. The two were still aware of the ants, but they
were a bit happier with the furniture. This shows that sometimes there is a silver

Franchising Benefits And Strategies Of Franchising
Franchising It is said that today there is a total of 750,000 franchise establishments within the U.S.
itself. Franchising is a long term agreement between two parties, and is when the franchisor grants the
franchisee the right to use a trademark or trade name in a business process. In a franchise agreement
the franchisee would in most cases purchase or lease the trademark or logo from the franchisor. Within
this transaction the franchisee also pays its franchisor sales revenue or royalty fees. In return, the
franchisee receives detailed and structured tactics, describing the process of how the business is run.
These tactics include promotion, hiring and training employees, upgrading product or service, as well
as maintaining design or décor (What is Franchising).
It is common for people to think of franchising as an industry, and although it can be considered to be
an industry, it can also be seen as a business model . Dr. Vinay Garg, a professor at Missouri State
University took time researching franchising benefits and strategies. Garg has studied and surveyed
over 1000 franchise businesses. He found that franchising could be a great opportunity for any
individual to become an entrepreneur by starting his or her own business. Since franchisors such as
McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts is well known to the public, the franchisee will find it less difficult to
bring in customers (Mostyn).
Companies and large businesses such as McDonald s and Starbucks are known for taking

Difference Between Faith And Knowledge
I enjoyed reading Pascal s wager so much that I decided to write my paper on him. I m going to dig
deeper into his background and answer key questions like what is the relationship between faith and
knowledge? Is faith in god justified? Why? How? In matters of faith and relationship with God, is the
question of the existence of God even relevant? Why or Why not? I am going to answers these key
questions in the upcoming paragraphs. I will briefly explain the argument of Pascal s wager and the
reasoning behind it. Is there a God? Should I believe in God? People think about this question
everyday. Pascal is famous, among other things for his wager argument. It was a groundbreaking
theory at that time. It s basically a risk vs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will continue to defend Pascal s argue that if you look at the bigger picture, it s better to believe in
God than it is not to believe. Pascal wanted us to make a choice. He was a mathematician and
physicist. He developed the rules for probability, which we still use today. Which makes a lot of sense
because Pascal basically paved the way for gambling. We will answer an important question, What is
the relationship between faith and knowledge? Knowledge is both objective and subjective.
Knowledge is attained through reason, faith is belief based without evidence, something that cannot be
seen. Everything we know is a matter of perception. Science and history is a great example of
knowledge and the bible is an example of faith. It makes me think back to one of our earlier classes
that we were talking about Locke s argument that we are born with a blank sheet of paper ideas and
knowledge come to us through our experiences and senses. Descartes on the other hand believed that
we are born with ideas/knowledge and you use experience to remember them. My view is that the
relationship between faith and knowledge is that you should have faith only in knowledge, which you
could then attain enlightenment through that because knowledge is wisdom. The older you get, the
more wisdom you received. Pascal goes on to mention on page 357, Who then will

Good vs Bad in a tale of two cities Essay
Good vs. Bad In the novel, A Tale of Two Cities Charles Dickens opens with an anaphora, about how
the world is throughout the novel. A reoccurring theme throughout this story is the battle between
good and evil. Most of the novel is about the struggles each force has and how most of the time good
triumphs over evil. In A Tale of Two Cities, the triumph of love, the death of the Marquis, and the
contrast between Sydney Carton and Charles Darnay shows how good triumphed over evil.
Throughout the novel, the power of love triumphed over evil. When Miss Pross fights Madame
Defarge to protect Lucie it shows Miss Pross s love towards Lucie. Miss Pross is like a mother to
Lucie and has been taking care of her for some time. Miss Pross ... Show more content on

Plus he does not want to share his wealth with anyone just like when a poor woman asks to have a
little money to buy her husband a head stone he just passes her like it is nothing. He shows no regard
for human life and that is why he needs to die. He rides his carriage through the streets fast so he can
see the peasants run and avoid being hit, and because he was doing this he ran over a child. He acted
like the child s life meant nothing and threw the father a few coins and kept going. The cruelty and
evil he delivered would die with him, and for the good of the people in the town his death was an
example how good triumphed over evil. Lastly, good did triumph over evil in Sydney Carton. Sydney
Carton is a drunk who hates Darnay because if Carton was not a drunk he would have everything
Darnay has, like the love of Lucie Manette. Carton is seen as the darkness because of the disparity he
has and how low he has fallen. Whereas Darnay is seen as light or the good guy due to how his life is
going. In the end when Sydney gives up his life for Darnay it shows how Sydney is transferring from
being sad and dark. His selfless act proved that the bad Sydney Carton has saved Darnay and kept
Lucie, Cartons love, happy.
The triumph of love, the death of Madame Defarege, and the triumph of Charles Darnay in trial shows
how good triumphed over evil. The theme of

Statement Of Internal Medicine
William Arthur Ward, author of Fountains of Faith, once wrote: Curiosity is the wick in the candle of
learning. I was always a curious child. Whenever I saw a sick person, I wondered what happens inside
the human body that causes illness, and my natural inquisitiveness only increased as I got older. By
the time I joined medical school, it was very clear to me that in this field I would be dealing with the
most precious thing in the world: human life. I truly believe that medicine is a service to humanity
because of the big difference a physician can make in a patient s life.
During medical school, I enjoyed the opportunity to rotate through the various wards of the hospital,
where I encountered scores of different types of patients with ... Show more content on

Internal medicine involves determining the crucial items from a huge pool of physical signs and lab
data, decisions on how to treat a difficult case, and estimating the risks and benefits of treatment for a
particular case. Of course, internal medicine is not only about diagnosing and managing a particular
case, but also about understanding every patient and being attuned to their changing needs, concerns,
and mental state. This is one of the only fields where providing healthcare and health education go
hand in hand. I personally enjoy managing the minute details of a case, helping patients understand
their conditions, and developing a comprehensive plan of care for them. The great versatility of this
field, the interplay between the different body systems involved, and the necessity of managing the
well being of the patient in entirety are all aspects of internal medicine that mesmerize

  • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of John Lennon s Imagine Imagine For my rhetorical analysis paper I chose to use one of the most influential British singers of all time, John Lennon. In his song Imagine, the very first line, Imagine there s no heaven, it s easy if you try, (John Lennon, Imagine), causes the listener to automatically begin thinking. The song is emotionally filled and full of instances where a listener is forced to think of what Lennon is saying in the song. Lennon was considered a very influential leader in efforts of world peace during his time, and still to this day his messages reach across the world in his music. Songs such as Imagine which still have a strong and powerful message decades after its first release. Lennon had a simple style and approach which left nothing for deliberation, leading the listener straight to the point of his messages. Imagine is one of the best examples of this, Lennon establishes his point multiple times throughout this song and it creates a bond with his listeners which in turn creates a trust within himself and his words. After listening to the song, I can automatically tell what the message of the song is that Lennon is portraying, and that is world peace. Lennon does an amazing job establishing his credibility in this song, thus creating credibility within his audience, credibility is part of Ethos. Throughout his musical career right up until his death in 1980, Lennon was heavily involved in peace activities. During his musical career he was part of the world famous Beatles, and this gained him world fame and allowed for his messages to be heard across the world. Lennon created even more Ethos for himself in a controversial album, where he posed naked with his wife, Yoko Ono, in there bed. This showed his fan base and the world that he was truly devoted to peace and love. Without his famous involvement in the Beatles, Lennon would never have gained his spotlight in the world allowing for his messages of peace and love to be heard. His ethos was within his people, not where he got his ideas. Lennon felt what the world felt, and thus his credibility. When Lennon wrote Imagine , and penned the words, You may say that I m a dreamer, but I m not the only one, I hope someday you ll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Shapeshifting Darkness In Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To... Shapeshifting Darkness World War I was a time of constant worry because of destruction caused to the European countryside. Ernest Hemingway depicts an American ambulance driver working for the Italian army through the Great War in the semi autobiographical A Farewell to Arms, incorporating elements of his own experience in the war into that of his narrator Fredric Henry. At the beginning of Chapter Twenty One, death and destruction is mentioned only before a one sided conversation with a British major that leaves Henry bored. This passage also portrays Hemingway s dark but witty style through his discursive and wistful tone, varied figures of speech, and repetitive and violent diction to indicate the uncertainty of his narrator s situation. Hemingway s tone, displayed by Henry s lack of focus and wistful remarks on past events, mirrors the disconnect from the events of the front as well as the narrator s boredom. Fredric Henry laments because that [t]he fighting at the front went very badly , there was no more racing as well as riots twice in the town against the war (Hemingway 116). As the narrator looks back on these events, there is also an element of longing towards the amusements of the past. By also removing himself from the riots and the fighting, there is a disconnect from Henry and the war, adding to the darkness of the passage. As Henry s mind drifts from the conversation of war to the beautiful boots of a British major, the discursive tone further ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It not only takes into consideration the laws that are coded, but also the basic and natural laws that govern our everyday lives. This part shall highlight the reasons as to why the novel was written in the first place. It shall answer questions like why did the author bother to pick up a pen, articulate his thoughts into words, and take time to write such a lengthy piece in an organised manner. First I spent five years in an unsuitable profession (The Indian Imperial Police, in Burma), and then I underwent poverty and the sense of failure. This increased my natural hatred of authority and made me for the first time fully aware of the existence of the working classes, and the job in Burma had given me some understanding of the nature of imperialism: but these experiences were not enough to give me an accurate political orientation. Then came Hitler, the Spanish Civil War, etc. By the end of 1935 I had still failed to reach a firm decision. The Spanish war and other events in 1936 37 turned the scale and thereafter I knew where I stood. Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it. It seems to me nonsense, in a period like our own, to think that one can avoid writing of such subjects. Everyone writes of them in one guise or another. • 9. Baroque Era Research Paper In the early Middle Ages, the human voice, God s creation within us, had been regarded in the sacred realm as being the only instruments we needed. The church considered the use of instruments as profane. There was no musical notation as songs were passed along from person to person by rote memorization. In the secular world, instruments were used at times by jongleurs, trouveres, and minnesingers. Some of those early instruments include the vielle, harp, psaltery, flute, shawm, bagpipe, and drums (Thomas et al.). Those instruments were most likely used in an accompaniment capacity, but since musical notation in the secular world was not really happening during this period, not a lot of concrete information is really known about instrumental ... Composers such as Bach built large works that included many instruments to go along with vocalists. The Opera, setting a play completely to music, emerged and used many instruments as accompaniment. A basso continuo was the early rhythm section in the Baroque period which included a keyboard instrument such as harpsichord, organ or clavichord and a bass instrument such as cello, violone, or bassoon. Figured bass notation was written with interval numbers above a bass line to tell the keyboardist what intervals to use to build the chords. Bach s Flute Sonata in C Major, BWV 1033 is an example of this technique with one melodic line on the top staff with a single bass line with numbers underneath in the second bass clef staff. • 10. Mass Shootings Over this past decade, an increase in mass shootings has raised a concern in the control of firearms. With the ever growing number of shootings, the death rate due to firearms has intensified. Thus, the controversy over gun control has caused society to push the government to re evaluate the regulation of firearms in the United States. Hence, in order to keep and provide a safe environment for American citizens without fear of death by firearm, the government should regulate firearms. With that said, most civilians do not possess firearms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The comparison between the two states show how drastically gun regulations can influence the death rate by firearms. In the state of Wyoming, firearm sellers are not required to check gun owner backgrounds. Therefore, gun owners are not obligated to register their guns or have a gun license. That is to say, there is little to no gun regulations in Wyoming giving it the number one spot in the highest gun related deaths. On the other hand, Massachusetts has the laws that regulate the possession, sale, and use of firearms and ammunition. Once the applicant has sent in their application for a guns permit or license, the applicant must wait 40 days in which the authorities may deny or grant them permission to carry a firearm ( Concealed Weapons ). As stated by the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Massachusetts is a may issue state for the issuance of licenses to carry firearms, meaning that the local licensing authority has discretion in determining whether or not to issue either license type to an applicant ( Concealed Weapons ). In this case, Massachusetts is significantly stricter than Wyoming and any other state in the country. Thus, with its strict gun laws, it has the lowest gun related death rate and is ranked as fifty on the charts of gun related deaths (Hendry 2015). This further justifies ... When the French needed foreigners, they did not mind that they came into their country, knowing that it would create diversity of religion. But now, they are not allowing religious symbols in schools because the French want to preserve their language and culture. So, it seems a bit ironic don t you think? Currently, the French want to ban the wearing of religious symbols in public schools so that there is no social tension, and to keep the main religion in France (Roman Catholicism) pure (Gofen 63). But even though the French say they want to keep their culture pure, in reality since the world wars, religions such as Islam and Judaism have in fact become a part of their culture. Once again, the French let in other cultures knowingly, and once the cultural diversity begins, all the religions are apart of a country s culture. An example of a religious symbol that the French are considering to ban is the Burka. A Burka is an outfit worn by Muslim females that cover them head to toe. Some, who want to ban the burka say that it is disrespectful to women and can be degrading. But, 64 million people in France are Muslim. This kind of racial profiling in our government brings back past history. After the Slavery was abolished, African Americans and other minorities were being mistreated and was segregated from white people. The government did nothing to stop this kind of mistreatment and actually encourage white people to separate from the minorities by separating bus seats, bathrooms, etc. After 9/11 people start to see Muslims differently and we are basically repeating history. If we are not aware of this kind of prejudice, than Muslims will be mistreated and in the back of people s mind they will view all Muslims as terrorist. It is an universal understanding that no one should judge or hurt somebody based on their ethnicity. Not only it is an universal understanding but in the future, we can prevent this kind of prejudice against any ethnic group because we are being exposed to this type of material early in ... As we come to the end of the term looking back at the previous diversity summaries I find that this one in particular gave me more of an encouragement to think beyond what I already knew or didn t know about religion, people s sexual orientation and disabilities. From my personal experience and knowledge of other religions I was not expecting to see some that I have never even heard of before, or how much a person s sexual orientation can have impacts on their lives. As for disabilities, I have a brother who has a disability but it was a great learning experience, even with a short presentation on people with other disabilities, to grasp a deeper recognition of what it means to be a disabled person in the United States. Moving forward, I hope to summarize the presentations presented to the class on the final diversity topics and include my insight on them as well. For this diversity topic, learning about other religions should make us aware of the various world religions that exist. For us, these presentation summaries give way to how each person interviewed is affected either by other in their workplace or by society. We have five total presentations we can further our understanding for different religions that we may have never thought of in the aspect of diversity and discrimination. José Meza interviewed two people of two different religions, David and Joseph. David is an 18 year old college student who is of Hmong religion. He wishes others would know about his ... • 20. Persuasive Essay On Water Of Water Introduction The use of chemicals in a school environment cause several issues in not only our health, but our watersheds as well. The chemicals in use in our school are those that cause damage to our health, they cause this damage with ingredients that are not completely user friendly. A watershed is a drainage basin, which is a natural depression in the earth s surface, usually containing water, and a divider that separates different areas. Here in Colorado we have two main watersheds, but we also have several streams considered watersheds. We are in the Cache La Poudre watershed. A watershed is the transport of different water and it is what is used to drain water into other basins, or oceans or any bigger water masses. It has stream valleys that bring water to other bodies of water, in which evaporate and return to the top. This is a constant stream in which is basically recycling water, so we want to keep the water healthy and ready for us to use. In a certain quote, we understand the dangers of what we do to our watersheds with urbanization, flooding becomes more prevalent as the area of impervious surfaces increase. (Perlman, 2016). This quote is saying that the more surface area that was given, such as parking lots, the more runoff comes from our flooding periods. This could be a danger in our school environment, because we use several chemicals as cleaners. They were a tribe that lived in the Four Corners region which we know today as Mesa Verde. They lived there for hundreds of years and did very well but eventually something drove them out to leave their homes. There are many possible and unknown reasons why the Anasazi disappeared from their cliff dwellings and what remains of them to this day in Pueblo Colorado. Drought and crop failures, and the over use of land and its resources such as soils, forests, and animals that became depleted are the main reasonings for their disappearance. This made them move on to look for new opportunities somewhere else (National Park Service ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were times of shortened cropping seasons but that it was never anything so bad that one would have to move away. In fact, shortly after the Anasazi left there is now proof that there was a lot of wetness and rain that happened right after but they still chose not to come back. Some archaeologists studied that there was violence that started to go on in the village which drove the people out. But among all of the different reasonings Johnson made one thing clear in stating that the Pueblo people didn t just dry up and blow away like so much parched corn. They restructured their societies, tried to adapt and when all else failed they moved on (2008, 1). There are many different archaeologists who are still studying the abandonment of the Anasazi people and arguing the reasons why they left. Even Keith Kloor stated in the Insider: Who were the Anasazi? the whole thing is a controversial claim to an ancient legacy. What is the probability that you end up in your seat (i.e., seat #100)?. Solution: Let s consider seats #1 and #100. There are two possible outcomes: E1: Seat #1 is taken before #100; E2: Seat #100 is taken before #1. If any passenger takes seat #100 before #1 is taken, surely you will not end up in you own seat. But if any passenger takes #1 before #100 is taken, you will definitely end up in you own seat. By symmetry, either outcome has a probability of 0.5. So the probability that you end up in your seat is 50%. Explanation: If the drunk passenger takes #1 by chance, then it s clear all the rest of the passengers will have the correct seats. If he takes #100, then you will not get your seat. The probabilities that he takes #1 or #100 are equal. Otherwise assume that he takes the n th seat, where n is a number between 2 and 99. Everyone between 2 and (n 1) will get his own seat. That means the n th passenger essentially becomes the new drunk guy with designated seat #1. Childhood, as we all know, is the state or period of being a child; the early period in the development of something (Merriam Webster). The movie Willy Wonka the Chocolate Factory (1971) illustrates five different children with each having different behavior, and they have one thing in common they are the only child in their family. These children are in the middle childhood, primary school age, around age seven or eight. What makes them different from each other is interesting. It allows the viewers to think if their behavior is either result of their experience or how they were raised. How they perceive things and how they behave are part of their cognitive development. The major domain of early childhood development is their cognitive development and the arguable aspects of the Nature Nurture. The term cognition refers to how the mind operates and the study of cognitive development focuses on how the mind thinks and learns during the early years of life (Universal Class, Inc.). The major premise of Piaget s theory is that children go through various stages of cognitive development, all of which are distinct from one another and influenced by both nature and nurture. • 31. The Physics Of Infrared Radiation A vibration can result in an absorption peak of infrared radiation, only if there is a change in the dipole moment of the molecule. The larger this change, the more intense will be the absorption band. Furthermore, the electron polarity vectors in the covalent bond should not cancel out i.e the covalent bonds must be asymmetric. Asymmetrical bonds carry a net polarity vector and show absorption peaks; bonds that are centered along the plane of symmetry cancel out their polarity vectors upon stretching and there is no net change in dipole moment. Such molecules are known to be infrared inactive. An infrared spectrum is the plot of absorbance (or % transmission) against the wavenumber (cm 1) (Rehman et al., 2012). Wavenumber is defined as number of waves in a length of one centimeter and is a commonly used unit for representing spectral regions. Wavenumber is linear with energy and is expressed with the following equation.Significant parts of the spectrum are the regions where the molecule absorbs the infrared energy. These are shown as characteristic absorption peaks. A molecule can only absorb radiation when the incoming infrared radiation is of the same frequency as one of the fundamental modes of vibration of the molecule (Stuart and Barbara, 2004). The modes of vibration usually encountered include bending, stretching, wagging and out of plane vibrations. These molecular vibrations result in changes in dipole moments of the molecular groups and the resulting vibrating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis of Neil Postman s Amusing Ourselves to Death Liking Form and Function It would be easy to dismiss Neil Postman as just a grumpy old man complaining about what those young whippersnappers are up to while his generation is upholding the values of civilization, the last vanguard against the Huns. Except for the fact that he was right: Modern technologies have allowed individuals to withdraw into themselves, to avoid engaging in public discourse. This imperils democracy, according to Postman, along with a number of other social critics of the last several decades. But at least as problematic (even as perilous), according to Postman, is the fact that many modern technologies and the social habits that accompany them, discourage any inner dialogue as well so that both private and public lives are silenced to any meaningful content. Or at least this is an arguable point: Whether or not it is true or the extent to which it is true is (arguably again) dependent on the form of the technology as well as when it appeared in the life of the individual. Television had a certain magical quality to it when it was first introduced: It had the power to entrance those who gathered around it in suburban living rooms. There are millions of opinions on the subject, seen by the shear girth of the literature on the subject, but it is imperative that lives do not continue to be measured in dollar signs. The balance must be designed as to protect all parties in difficult situations like the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The battle is not always the disease versus humans, but sometimes humans versus humans. The answers to the questions above are much easier said than done. The majority of the people with HIV/AIDS live in sub Saharan Africa (Figure 1) (13). As of 2013, 39 million people have died since this disease was brought to light in the early 1980s (13). Even though this disease has been at the forefront of research for decades, scientific advances in the field have been slow to come about. There is no cure for the disease; however new antiretroviral treatments have allowed the virus replication to be controlled at a more manageable level (8). There have been concentrated global efforts to spread these drugs through the crisis areas of the disease, but efforts have not always been successful. Unfortunately, HIV/AIDS has crippled the ... The Ancient Egyptians, 5000 years ago, knew 40 different types of ornamental stones and worked chiefly with granite and some types of marble such as Alabaster. Some historians assert that the Greek and the Romans acquired the skills of quarrying and processing marble from the Ancient Egyptians. For over a thousand years now, the economic activity of a city like Carara in Italy has been relying on and revolving mainly around marble. Today, marble is a differentiated product that is internationally traded. The price and value of marble depends on one hand on its natural characteristics (like quality, type and color) and on the other hand on technological processing (giving it a special shape, polish, size and thickness). Hence, the production of marble can be considered as highly differentiated, and strongly dependent on level of technology use.( Azza I. Kandil and Tarek H. Selim)(reaearch ... Like many sovereigns through the ages who have ruled with fear and control retain supreme power. One example is the pig Napoleon from George Orwell s book, Animal Farm. Napoleon uses controlling language to force animals into kicking out their farmer Mr. Jones, even if not everyone wants to rebel. Only those who have lived it or are living it know what it is really like, meanwhile others have no idea. Some people lived their entire lives like this, others only just beginning, all know how difficult it is. Much of the time, people scrounge for food, a job, some shelter, and money. Alex and Morgan have been living an easygoing lifestyle up until the day they decided to take the challenge of going into poverty for thirty days and earning $1,000 in deposit extra by the end. In the beginning they assumed it was going to be easy, but by the end they were ready to get out. Having done this, the couple changed their perspective and began to be more joyous ... He could ve gone to the hospital, but the thoughts of the fact that they could eat and travel on public transportation made him change his mind about going to get his wrist checked out. This shows that he cared about the fact that his fiancee wouldn t have to be on nerves about not having enough money to purchase some basic essentials. Another example is when the children came over. The two were worried about trying to attempt at having a fun time for the kids, but within the next few days they have decided to go to the movie theatre for entertainment. Morgan ended up spending around $50 on the teenagers and Alex was angry at the fact that he do this; knowing that they couldn t afford anything anymore all due to the fact that Morgan can t say no, causing them to argue right then and there. This shows that Alex is very responsible and wouldn t forget the things anyone tell her, meanwhile Morgan just like to please people. A third example would be Alex s concern for the apartment. Somewhere around the ten day mark, Morgan and Alex began to notice the ant infestation. They both felt too uncomfortable to do anything, knowing that the ants were in the building. This made Alex realize how dull the apartment was and want to go get furniture. Luckily they found a charity that sells furniture and clothing that is very inexpensive, so they bought some stuff from there. The two were still aware of the ants, but they were a bit happier with the furniture. This shows that sometimes there is a silver ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Franchising Benefits And Strategies Of Franchising Franchising It is said that today there is a total of 750,000 franchise establishments within the U.S. itself. Franchising is a long term agreement between two parties, and is when the franchisor grants the franchisee the right to use a trademark or trade name in a business process. In a franchise agreement the franchisee would in most cases purchase or lease the trademark or logo from the franchisor. Within this transaction the franchisee also pays its franchisor sales revenue or royalty fees. In return, the franchisee receives detailed and structured tactics, describing the process of how the business is run. These tactics include promotion, hiring and training employees, upgrading product or service, as well as maintaining design or décor (What is Franchising). It is common for people to think of franchising as an industry, and although it can be considered to be an industry, it can also be seen as a business model . Dr. Vinay Garg, a professor at Missouri State University took time researching franchising benefits and strategies. Garg has studied and surveyed over 1000 franchise businesses. He found that franchising could be a great opportunity for any individual to become an entrepreneur by starting his or her own business. Since franchisors such as McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts is well known to the public, the franchisee will find it less difficult to bring in customers (Mostyn). • 43. Difference Between Faith And Knowledge I enjoyed reading Pascal s wager so much that I decided to write my paper on him. I m going to dig deeper into his background and answer key questions like what is the relationship between faith and knowledge? Is faith in god justified? Why? How? In matters of faith and relationship with God, is the question of the existence of God even relevant? Why or Why not? I am going to answers these key questions in the upcoming paragraphs. I will briefly explain the argument of Pascal s wager and the reasoning behind it. Is there a God? Should I believe in God? People think about this question everyday. Pascal is famous, among other things for his wager argument. It was a groundbreaking theory at that time. It s basically a risk vs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will continue to defend Pascal s argue that if you look at the bigger picture, it s better to believe in God than it is not to believe. Pascal wanted us to make a choice. He was a mathematician and physicist. He developed the rules for probability, which we still use today. Which makes a lot of sense because Pascal basically paved the way for gambling. We will answer an important question, What is the relationship between faith and knowledge? Knowledge is both objective and subjective. Knowledge is attained through reason, faith is belief based without evidence, something that cannot be seen. Everything we know is a matter of perception. Science and history is a great example of knowledge and the bible is an example of faith. It makes me think back to one of our earlier classes that we were talking about Locke s argument that we are born with a blank sheet of paper ideas and knowledge come to us through our experiences and senses. Descartes on the other hand believed that we are born with ideas/knowledge and you use experience to remember them. My view is that the relationship between faith and knowledge is that you should have faith only in knowledge, which you could then attain enlightenment through that because knowledge is wisdom. The older you get, the more wisdom you received. Pascal goes on to mention on page 357, Who then will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He acted like the child s life meant nothing and threw the father a few coins and kept going. The cruelty and evil he delivered would die with him, and for the good of the people in the town his death was an example how good triumphed over evil. Lastly, good did triumph over evil in Sydney Carton. Sydney Carton is a drunk who hates Darnay because if Carton was not a drunk he would have everything Darnay has, like the love of Lucie Manette. Carton is seen as the darkness because of the disparity he has and how low he has fallen. Whereas Darnay is seen as light or the good guy due to how his life is going. In the end when Sydney gives up his life for Darnay it shows how Sydney is transferring from being sad and dark. • 45. Statement Of Internal Medicine William Arthur Ward, author of Fountains of Faith, once wrote: Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning. I was always a curious child. Whenever I saw a sick person, I wondered what happens inside the human body that causes illness, and my natural inquisitiveness only increased as I got older. By the time I joined medical school, it was very clear to me that in this field I would be dealing with the most precious thing in the world: human life. I truly believe that medicine is a service to humanity because of the big difference a physician can make in a patient s life. During medical school, I enjoyed the opportunity to rotate through the various wards of the hospital, where I encountered scores of different types of patients with ... Internal medicine involves determining the crucial items from a huge pool of physical signs and lab data, decisions on how to treat a difficult case, and estimating the risks and benefits of treatment for a particular case. Of course, internal medicine is not only about diagnosing and managing a particular case, but also about understanding every patient and being attuned to their changing needs, concerns, and mental state. This is one of the only fields where providing healthcare and health education go hand in hand. I personally enjoy managing the minute details of a case, helping patients understand their conditions, and developing a comprehensive plan of care for them. The great versatility of this field, the interplay between the different body systems involved, and the necessity of managing the well being of the patient in entirety are all aspects of internal medicine that mesmerize ...
