1. Essay References
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay References" can be a challenging task. While the topic
itself may seem straightforward, delving into the intricacies of proper citation and referencing
can be quite demanding. The difficulty lies not only in understanding the various citation styles
like APA, MLA, or Chicago but also in applying them accurately throughout the essay.
One of the challenges is ensuring that every source, whether it be a book, journal article, or
online publication, is cited correctly. Different types of sources require different formats, and
mastering these nuances can be time-consuming. Additionally, the rules for citing electronic
sources and multimedia can add another layer of complexity.
Moreover, striking the right balance between providing enough references to support your
arguments and not overloading the essay with citations is crucial. A well-referenced essay
demonstrates thorough research, while an excessive number of citations can make the writing
appear cluttered and distract from the main points.
Another difficulty is staying updated on the latest citation guidelines, as they can undergo
revisions. It's essential to be aware of any changes in citation styles to ensure the accuracy and
relevancy of your references.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Essay References" involves navigating through the intricate
rules of various citation styles, managing different types of sources, and maintaining a delicate
balance between sufficiency and excess in referencing. It is undoubtedly a task that demands
attention to detail, research skills, and a good understanding of the conventions of academic
writing.

2. Colonization of America
When the Europeans had discovered America, the possibilities for them were endless.
Although mistakenly discovered, it greatly aroused the curiosity of many European
explorers. There were new opportunities for them to expand, and in more than just
one way. Chances to spread religion, boost their economy, and help themselves
politically. As soon as Columbus returned, the pope issued a decree saying the world
itself was an inheritance of Christianity. Spainand Portugal, the two main Christian
powers at the time, set out to spread Christianity all across the world following the
Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494. What better place to start then with the new found land
of the Americas. As soon as the Europeans figured out a reason, they began... Show

This created a large amount of wealth, and more and more markets and ports began to
appear across America. A supply had been created and demand followed, creating
economic success. Merchants and their ships increased and carried materials such as
cloth and wool between European and American ports, and an economic boom with a
steady population increase to show for it. This pushed exploration further in all
directions, and they now had plenty of reasons to continue expansion. From the initial
dominance of Christianity to the Protestant Reformation, religious cause for
navigating toward America suited both sides. The political causes were justified in
the monarchies interest in the new land, creating a way to expand their control, but
eventually leading to war among one another. Economically, the Europeans benefited
extremely well, and for that reason alone gave them a strong incentive for
colonization in America. The three causes all relate with one another, and one cause
relies heavily on another. The Europeans exploration had not expected to encounter
such an opportunity, but with it came the success that eventually laid out the plans of
America to be something beyond what they thought

Bluetooth Motorcycle Helmets
A new trend
Development of technology has brought many breakthroughs along the years. One of
the innovative things that eased the ways people communicate in traffic is the
bluetooth motorcycle helmet. This way, bikers can easily communicate, listen to
music or even listen to the indication of the GPS without having to pull out the
mobile device.
Differences between bluetooth helmets
Bikers can choose from a wide range of bluetooth helmets but there are 2 distinctive
models that bikers will have to choose from:

People that are not accustomed to this kind on devices may find themselves in a

need to consider.
пЃ¬A very important asset of your bluetooth helmet setup will be if it is waterproof
or not.Bad weather can be an inconvenience when it comes to your bluetooth
setup. No biker want his dear helmet to short circuit after a single use, especially if the
helmet is on the biker at that moment. Therefore, you might want to check if the
helmet,or setup, you intend to buy has such a feature.
пЃ¬Controls are the most important things you will want to check before buying
such a helmet. You need to know how easy you can use the device and if the
respective customization fits your needs. Some helmets have a quiet odd placement of
the buttons so you might want to check that out before buying the helmet.
пЃ¬When it comes to the materials, carbon, composite and fibreglass will be your
top three.Although a bit pricey, in the end it is all about your safety so don`t go

more about fashion and matching the color with the bike or
4. Critical Reading And Critical Thinking
We can make the distinction between critical reading and critical thinking as follows
[1]:
Reading Criticism is a technique to discover ideas and information in a written text.
Thinking Senior is a technique for evaluating information and ideas, to decide to
accept and believe.
The Critical Reading refers to a careful, active, reflective and analytical reading.
Critical thinking involves thinking about the validity of what has been read in the
light of knowledge and understanding of the world that previously have.
Consider for example the following sentence in a way not without humor, taken from
a student essay:
Parents are buying expensive cars for their children destroyed

Critical thinking allows the reader to follow his understanding as you read. If you
notice that the text claims are ridiculous or irresponsible (critical thinking), which on
closer examination to test their own understanding (critical reading).
Conversely, critical thinking depends on critical reading. After all a person can
think critically about a text (critical thinking) only if you have understood it (critical
reading). You can choose to accept or reject a presentation, but you should know
why. You have a responsibility not just to himself but to others to identify the issues
or problems where you are or disagree. Only then can we understand and respect the
views of others. To recognize and understand those views should be able to read
critically.
UTILITY OF DISTINCTION
If the thinking and critical reading are so closely connected, why is useful to
distinguish?
What becomes useful to distinguish, is to remember that we read each text on its
own merits, without prior knowledge of the reader or the views that he may have to
be imposed. A time to be evaluated ideas while reading, you should also avoid
distorting the sense that contains the text. Do not allow the reader to force the text to
read what he d like to say, because that is not never learn anything

Preventing the export of conflict diamonds in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has large reserves of cobalt, gold, gems,
copper, timber, and uranium. However, the most valuable resource that the DRC
possess is its large reserve of diamonds. Diamonds essentially serve as a pillar to the
DRC s struggling economy. Plagued by civil unrest, the DRC is desperately trying to
stabilize its economy. Their efforts have been met with stiff resistance due to the
ongoing civil war and illegal diamond trade. Not only is the DRC losing potential
revenue from the illegal mining of diamonds, but also these diamonds are being used
to finance the rebel armies. In response, the U.N. has drafted several ... Show more

The exploitations of the land began when King Leopold declared all unoccupied land
owned by the state. This move gave him exclusive rights to the lucrative trade in
rubber and ivory. Soon afterwards, private companies were formed to exploit the
natural mineral wealth of the Congo. Along with the exploitation of the land, the
people were forced into slave labor. Natives were brutally forced to collect rubber
and mine for minerals. Under the agreement with King Leopold, Belgium annexed
the Congo in 1908. Under Belgian rule forced labor was gradually phased out.
However, the Congo was still perceived by the Belgian government as merely an
economic investment. Very few if any initiatives were established in order to promote
the economic development of sectors important to the welfare of the native people.
The economic developments that were initiated were directly related to the
exploitation of the land. Railroads and other forms of transportation were developed
in order to increase the profits of the Belgian government. Plantations and large
mining operations were formed with native people occupying the labor pool.
Along with exploiting the Congo s natural resources, the Belgian government also
established Christian missionaries in order to civilize the natives. As a result, many
Congolese citizens were educated at the secondary level or higher. These same people
would eventually protest
6. The Impact Of Collectivization
Collectivization was one of Stalin s policies in addressing the emerging decline in
food production in the Soviet Union. He wanted to get rid of NEP which Lenin
started, he felt that it was not communism and was not fast enough. Therefore, he
introduced collectivization which started in 1928 and ended in 1940. It started
during the first five year plan and was part of it. Collectivization was Stalin s
answer to the grain procurement crisis of 1927 28. Grain was procured by force in
an attempt to socialize land, to ensure that it was no longer owned by individual
peasants. There were 3 types of collective farm. Firstly, The Toz, which was peasant
owned land but shared machinery and cooperating harvesting. Secondly, The Sovkhoz

the interior of Russia and the workers endured simultaneous pay cuts and
production speed ups in order to finance Stalin s ambitious projects without foreign

unless a doctor s certificate was produced; doctors who gave certificates too easily
faced prosecution themselves. Lastly, there was a severe shortage of consumer
goods due to concentration on heavy industries. These shortages led to high prices,
resulting in a 50% drop in actual value of the workers salaries as they could only buy

controlling and because of his daughter not following what he says he told the
Lord, Theseus who gives Hermia three choices, death, to marry Demetrius or to
live the rest of her life as a nun. Egeus does not trust or like Lysander and thinks he

8. The Abolition Of Private Property
Under capitalism, if you purchase a business and pay people to work there, you are
entitled to all of the profits earned. Marx views this as an immoral and an
unsustainable socio political model.
The argument for the abolition of private property is as follows. Society reflects the
history of class struggle, over resources, wealth, and what is needed to live. And
throughout this struggle, the exploitation of labor, of one class by another.
The distinguishing feature of Communism is not the abolition of property generally,
but the abolition of bourgeois property (The Communist Manifesto , p. 10).
Marx and Engel conveyed a very specific message about property in their
Communist Manifesto, one aimed at abolishing private (bourgeois) property
completely. And that, in a sense, Communism itself is the abolition of private
property. So firstly, I would like to define private property so that other types of
property may not be confused with private. There is a distinct difference between
private property and personal property in the conventional academic/ socialistic
sense. The things in your house have been regarded as personal property, by most
socialist thinkers. The idea of private property is more like the ownership of capital,
like land. Or owning the means of producing capitol (machines, factories, ie.). One
would not be required to give up their personal property if the convention of private
property was abolished.
Next I would like to define and connect means of production and capital. The means
of production refers to institutions or establishments, such as: factories, offices, or
any places of business that are privately owned. Marx sees financial interest in these
foundations as deficient in relation to the return on investment created by the
workers who make them valuable. Under Marx s theory of value, these
establishments are only valuable as a result of the workers labor and not the financial
or capitalistic investment. Capital can therefore be defined as the money
Dreben 2 which allows for the ownership of the means of production. Under
capitalism, if you purchase a business and pay people to work there, you are entitled
to all of the profits earned. Marx views this as an immoral and an

10. Mythic Characters Of Wonder Woman
There are many mythic characters but one that has a really strong influence is
Wonder Woman who is the daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus. In today s world, she is
an admirable role model to look up to due to the traits she possesses such as strength,
loyalty, and honesty. Firstly, Wonder Woman is a strong female
role model due to her
strength. She inspired young females to stay strong. Stereotypically men are
considered to be stronger than females, but Wonder Woman breaks those
stereotypes. In addition to this, Wonder Woman is loyal. She is loyal to the people
she loves and makes sure the bad is always defeated. Furthermore, Wonder Woman
is extremely brave. She fought in WW1 and is fearless. Wonder Woman provides a
safe environment for all that feel endangered. There are several ways in which
Wonder Woman illustrates strength, loyalty, and bravery, however, the most
significant trait she possesses is passion. She will always have the passion to help
humanity in every way or form, making her one of the best mythic characters.
Wonder Woman s strength empowers woman making her an honorable person to
look up to; therefore she sets a positive example for the younger generations. For
instance, when she fought a war and destroyed a sniper bell tower with only one
single punch. This part of the movie shows strength because, in reality, a human won
t be able to destroy a tower with one punch. Wonder Woman may be half god but she
is still part human and she was able to destroy the tower
11. The Virus Is Contagious And Mutate
The ASF virus is highly contagious and spreads rapidly in pig populations through
direct and indirect contact. This virus can persist for long periods in pig products
and the environment, and may be endemic in feral or wild suids and in Ornithodoros
ticks. Isolates of ASFV vary in virulence; some strains are highly pathogenic,
resulting in almost 100% mortality while others are low virulence or asymptomatic
isolates that can be difficult to diagnose [1].

Even North American swine herds are at elevated risk of accidental or deliberate
ASFV introduction from its widespread occurrence in Eastern Europe. Unlike most
trans boundary viral infections, there is no vaccine available against ASFV.
Consequently, detection and elimination of infected animals (surveillance) combined
with quarantine, pig movement controls and high herd bio security are the only
methods to control and eradicate ASF [3]. This approach is costly and often
prohibitively expensive for food insecure and developing countries affected by the
disease, increasing the probability of ASF becoming endemic in those regions.
African swine fever virus control is further complicated by its complex ecology and
transmission epidemiology. In addition to infection by direct and indirect (fomite)
contact among confined domestic swine, wild suids, and feral domestic hogs, soft
bodied ticks (Genus Ornithodoros) can transmit ASF and serve as virus reservoirs.
Many wild boars in Russia and the Caucasus have been infected by ASF since
2007, and there is evidence that some pigs may become carriers [4] The
Ornithodoros tick vector is also present in this region. However, the roles played by
wild boars, feral swine and tick vectors in ASFV eco epidemiology and transmission
in the Caucasus are unknown at this time. Humans are not

14. Elie Wiesel Loss Of Identity In Night
Elie Wiesel s memoir Night displays how the traumatic effects of the Holocaust
shaped his identity, as it caused him to lose hope in humanity and goodness in the
world due to loss of faith. An individual is greatly impacted by their identity as it
can shape how others view them, their moral beliefs and how they reflect upon
themselves. Those perceptions of Elie are altered by the intense punishments and
orders the Nazi officers have on the captured Jewish. Wiesel is stripped of his
rights and punished for his Jewish faith, which triggers the changes in his identity
and turns into a lifeless prisoner. After seeing many of his fellow prisoners be killed

Wiesel s lack of hope leads to depression, hopelessness and frustration. These
emotional traits can be seen at times when he talks to himself about how he is

process of understanding and undergoing life, causing extensive emotional issues.
The Nazi s took his identity by stripping Elie of his culture and heritage. He now
ignores the holidays like Hanukkah that he had celebrated, and no longer is able to
do many of the things he did in Hungary. Following World War II, cultural
destructiveness is prevented from occuring again as a number of groups, such as
UNESCO, help pass international heritage protection treaties. The death of his
father takes away even more meaning in his life, as they were a very connected
family, and it breaks Wiesel s heart. A demonstration of those feelings is when Elie

After the 9/11 attacks in the United States, the War on Terror was the strategy that the
Bush government developed with the aim to defeat the organization that had
accomplished this attack, Al Qaeda. The immediate response of the Bush
Administration after the attack was the invasion of Afghanistan, with the goal of
eliminating and expel the targets that had made the country their sanctuary. This
group was presented as the main threat of the 21st century, and as the enemy at the
global scale. However, the idea of the War on Terror did not employ only in the
Afghan context, the Islamic terrorist threat was spread through nine principal theatres

With the lessons learned in these areas, Galula returned to France in 1956, the year in
which the country was immersed in the Algerian war, which led him to request a
command therein. It was here that Galula implemented for the first time their
knowledge of COIN.
Galula theory is based on the support of the population, an element that is recovered
in the doctrine developed by Petraeus. This is divided between an active minority
supporting the insurgency, an active minority who would be willing to support the
force or forces that promote measures COIN, and finally, a large majority of the
population passive (FM 3 24, 2006: 1 20). The aim of COIN operations would
therefore gain the support of the active minority that is potentially in their favour, so
that this in turn get mobilized the passive majority of the population against the
insurgent group. Besides military measures to reduce and eliminate the insurgent
forces, for the author it is essential to isolate the population of these groups, in order
to avoid a possible mobilization of the same against the interests of the COIN. This
will require removing the alleged political organization that insurgent groups have
developed in that area, and replace it forces an interim basis to ensure the necessary
services in the area, and thus add up support within the local population.
Based on the classic definition of the term, the insurgency is defined as organized

exactly. A good majority of the American population has already learned about
Romanticism in some type of English class they took in high school, but not many,
just like myself, remember it entirely. Most of the population, as a whole, should
know about Romanticismin American Literature since it was a major part in our
Literature history while also having a brief recap of the history that follows with

literary, musical, and intellectual movement which originated in Europe around the
end of the 18th century. During this time, American Literature was finding its own

Many of the authors that demonstrated Romanticism were thinking outside of the box
to get this sense of Romanticism incorporated into their work bringing creativity and
the thought of emotion and individualism together in their work. We see
Romanticism in our art, literature, and music. In the early years of Romanticism, it
quickly spread to England in 1789, then, shortly after its expansion to England, it
then was picked up on in America. The Romanticism movement was considered a
philosophical movement which, in the midst of it gaining popularity, changed the
way that people think about themselves and other people around them in the world.
Many would agree that this time would be considered an age of revolution. with the
French and American Revolution going on it changed America in a semi drastic way
both literary and as a whole society. As a result of this popular movement many
different authors, including William Cullen Bryant with Thanatopsis , Henry
Longfellow with Paul Revere s Ride , and Washington Irving with the Devil and Tom
Walker included Romanticism in their works. In my opinion, I think that The Devil
and Tom Walker portrays the most use of the idea of Romanticism. Washington
Irving starts the story out with a man named Tom Walker, who only really cared
about money. As the story goes on, Tom decides

different experiences of researches stepping into a world of different religion and
perspectives than their own. While both Haberman and Covington focus on a certain
religionand the traditions of its followers, Haberman does a better job with presenting
an accurate representation of Hinduismand the Braj pilgrimage. This is because
Covington s book delves too deeply into his personal journey and opinion without

Haberman gives the reader history of Hinduism and the significance of the Braj

While both attempt to take an ethnographic approach, Covington s writing truly does
show the journalistic background he came from, since it came off as almost more
story telling than an actual research piece. Haberman, on the other hand, provided the
reader with a large amount of background and history on Hinduism, essentially
assuming the reader didn t know anything about Hinduism going into the book. This
made it so that while the reader was going on the journey of the pilgrimage with
Haberman, they were also getting the informational and historical background of
Hinduism and why the pilgrimage was performed, something that Covington cannot
grasp so well. This could partly be because Covington assumes his audience is coming
from a Christian and Western perspective, meaning a background and history of
Christianity isn t necessary. While Haberman, on the other hand, makes the same
assumption, so a history and background of Hinduism would be necessary to
accurately tell and portray the whole story. It is more appropriate for researchers to
assume that their audience lacks the background knowledge than that they have it,
because there could be missed information or unclear points made by the researchers
otherwise. When explaining the traditions and beliefs of those in the snake handling
church, Covington presents in the information within the framework of his life and
his experiences,
18. Hesiod s Version Of The Prometheus And Pandora
Hesiod s versions of the Prometheus/Pandora story and the book of Genesis s story
of Eve s act of eating the forbidden fruit both introduce a female figure whose
actions are connected with the seeming introduction of evil into the world. At first
glance, it appears that the Genesis story is more compelling than Hesiod s account
at explaining the origin of evil because its monotheistic structure makes the logic
behind the evils far more clear and straightforward than Hesiod s logic. The act of
disobedience by Eve seems fully her own fault while God(Yahweh) is faultless.
However, Genesis is too simple because the story of Prometheus/Pandora is far more
complex. The Hesiod story of Prometheus/Pandora is more compelling than Genesis
because the conflict allowed disputes between the gods in its polytheistic worldview
rather than one god making Hesiod more compelling at explaining the evils of the
world.
In order to make this argument, this paper consist of three parts. The first part will
argue why Genesis is seen as the most compelling text due to its simplicity and
logic. The second part will examine Hesiod s Prometheus/Pandora story to prove that
the complexity makes a logical statement of why the evils in the world came to be.
The final part will be counter argument which states that Genesis might be more
compelling at explaining the evils of the world because it demonstrates both divine
and mortal choices.
Genesis offers one God s divine dominance on creation, making God
20. The Two Components Of Blood Pressure
1.The two constituents of blood pressure are systolic pressure and diastolic pressure;
the highest and lowest pressure readings during ventricular systole and diastole,
respectively. Pulse pressure is the difference between these two readings and
represents the blood being pushed into the aorta from the left ventricle. However, a
bloodpressure value can be given as an average pressure in the arteries which forces
the flow of blood from the heart. This value is the mean arterial pressure (MAP).
Cardiac output (CO) and Total Peripheral Resistance (TPR) are the physiological
determinants of MAP. CO is the volume of blood pumped by one ventricle in a
given period of time (Silverthorn, 2007). It is determined by the heart rate (HR),
which is the number of beats per minute, and the stroke volume (SV), which is the
volume of blood pumped by a ventricle during a contraction. Venous return is the
volume of blood with returns to the heart via the vena cava. With reference to the
Frank Starling relationship, if CO increases, venous return should also increase,
however changes in vasoconstriction can affect the venous return, thus effecting
MAP. According to Poiseuille s Law, the radius of the arterioles directly impacts the
resistance of blood flow to peripheral circulation, which is termed TPR. Blood
volume also impacts the MAP. A larger blood volume will exert more pressure on the
arterioles and therefore increase blood pressure. Furthermore, the kidneys can filter

Humans have always been enamored by the beauty and majesty of the wild
creatures of the Earth; Asian elephants, the big cats of Africa, and of course the
adorable monkeys, apes, and chimpanzees. Capitalizing on the public s love for
these animals, entrepreneurs and business moguls have captured some of these
creatures and allowed people to buy an up close encounter with the wild beasts of
the world. Some have even trained these beasts to perform tricks for the pleasure of
the audience. It is a common scene in the world today for families to spend the
weekend at the circus or the zoo, peering in at the lives of the wild animals by whom
people are so captivated. However, when adults plan a fun, family outing at these

them, as good people from other eras stood up or even risked their own lives in

medical care and approval by a veterinarian before performing (Cruelest), that is not
always the case. The show must go on , as the old adage goes, even if that means
forcing the star to perform tricks while gravely ill. In 1998, a major incident occurred
in the fight for animal rights. Kenny, a three year old Asian elephantowned by the
Ringling Bros. circus, became lethargic and listless, and as the day progressed, began
to bleed. Though the circus veterinarian prescribed antibiotics and recommended he
skip the shows until signs of definite improvement occurred, it was show day, and an
eager audience was waiting for Kenny to entertain them. The young elephant
performed his third show for the day, under threat of physical punishment by his
trainer, and was returned to his shackles afterward. Unfortunately, later that night, the
circus crew found Kenny lying dead on the ground (Cruelest). The United States

Marco Polo
Marco Polo was born in c.1254 in Venice. He was a Venetian explorer and merchant
whose account of his travels in Asia was the primary source for the European
image of the Far East until the late 19th century. Marco s father, Niccolo, and his
uncle Maffeo had traveled to China in 1260 1269 as merchants. Despite Marco s
enduring fame very little was known about the personal life of Marco Polo. It is
known that he was born into a leading Venetian family of merchants. He also lived
during a propitious time in world history, when the height of Venice s as a city state
coincided with the greatest extent of Mongol conquest of Asia. (http:/

Marco and his party encountered such hazards as wild beasts and brigands. They
also met with beautiful women, in whom young Marco took a special interest.
Under the Khan s protection the Polo s were able to observe a large portion of the
Islamic world at close range. By the time they reached the Khan s court in Khanbalik,
Marco had become a hardened traveler. He had also received a unique education and
had been initiated into manhood.
Kublai Khan greeted the Polo s warmly and invited them to stay in his court. The
Polo s became great favorites of the Khan, and Kublai eventually made Marco one
of his most trusted emissaries. On these points Marco has been accused of gross
exaggeration, and the actual status of the Polo s at the court of Khan s is much
disputed. For political reasons the Khan was in the habit of appointing foreigners to
administer conquered lands, particularly China, where the tenacity of the Chinese
bureaucracy was legendary. The Khan could also observe for himself that young
Marco was a good Candidate. Finally, Marco reported back so successfully from his
first mission, informing the Khan not only on business details but also on colorful
customs and other interesting trivia. (Marco Polo in China)
The Polo s stayed on the court for seventeen years. Apparently, the elder Polo s

Recent progress in ultrafast lasers gained a lot of interest to investigate ever faster
physical processes in atoms, molecules, and solid state surfaces. This advancement
gave birth to a broad field of science crossing physics, chemistry, and biology;
known as Ultrafast Science for which Zewail got the Nobel prize in 1999. But,
following electron dynamics in real time, watching the formation or breaking of
chemical bonds, or the transfer of electrons from one constituent to another has
been a dream and challenge for a long time in this field. The never ending quest to
study the time resolved dynamics (also known as Ultrafast molecular movies )
pushing the probes to attosecond (10 18 seconds) and even zeptosecond (10 21
seconds) domain. Only with the advent of attosecond pulse generation, time
resolved dynamics near the ground state (the period of a Bohr orbit ≈ 150 as)
came into reach. These ultrafast electric field probes can be used to drive electrons
with petahertz (1015 Hz) frequencies also in nanometer scale systems (a new
research domain known as lightwave electronics is emerged from this idea).
The proposed laboratory aims at developing cross disciplinary studies in ultrafast
dynamics by establishing and creating innovative laser technology.
Science goals:

1 Within the four components of Multicultural Excellence, I have experienced a
greater expansion of my awareness in the discrimination of women in the education
system. During my high school education, none of the history classes I took
included in their curriculum a chapter on Title IX, and why it was added. In doing
my Title IX research project, I became aware that in our recent history, before 1972,
that there were quotas set in place, limiting the number of female students in a
University. I am glad that legislation has passed removing quotas, but I also became
aware that women are currently still a minority within the STEM majors. I believe
this is due to our social construct here in America.

the importance on the individual and competing with each other. Collectivistic

26. Fanon Collective Unconsciousness
Fanon asserts that the social constructions of racism get their way into society
through various channels. According to him, information and propositions slowly get
their way into the minds of individuals through newspapers, the radio, books, school
text, advertisement, and movies. These information shapes a person s vision of the
world. The view of the world is always white in the Antilles. No black manifestation
exists.
Fanon speaks specifically from the Antillean man s psychology. The Antillean man
realizes that he has been living a mistake all his life. He realizes the collective
unconscious that one is not black because of color. The Antillean realizes that one is
black as a result of being evil, wicked, instinctual and spineless. It is imperative to
know the definition of white. White is anything that is opposite to the black traits. It
is the collective unconsciousness that black is sin, ugliness, immorality and
darkness. The meaning of this is that if a man is immoral, then he is black. On the
other hand, if he behaves with morals, he is not black. The Martinique have a ... Show

from the view of the white man, a black man is a physical image, the non ego.
Fanon goes an extra mile to contend that A black man is not a man . Thus, a black
man, a victim of racism, constantly suffers a lack of recognition. The black man
cannot stand alone. He is the comparison to the white man. He is a comparison
because he is a constant object of the ego ideal and self assertion. Whenever the
black man is in the presence of another person, the question of worth and merit is
always raised. The Negro does not possess a personal value; he is always dependent
on the presence of the other. He compares himself, asking questions whether he is
blacker, less intelligent or less useful to the other (Fanon,

labeled the entire Vietnam War as an error and describes the Johnson administration

In response to the tragedy and the Cambodia invasion, mass rallies were held in
almost every major city in that month. The elite demographic, which includes doctors,
lawyers and other professionals also flooded into Washington to display their
opposition not only to the war but the increasing domestic violence. The incident
dramatically affected Americans and it was further indicated through public opinion
polls, which pointed blame towards the National Guard. To many Americans, the
domestic upheaval following Cambodia and Kent State suggested that the country
was becoming unhinged according to Melvin Small. Newspapers such as the New

Civil War. Individuals that would identify themselves as pro war now felt that the war
s cost in terms of domestic consequence outweighed the benefits of continuing the
war. The White House was now in full damage control following the Kent State

the Kent State massacre. In response, White House officials anxiously discussed how

The truth behind the tradition is surprising. Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims seem
to go together, but the truth is, the Pilgrims never held an autumnal Thanksgiving
feast. However the Pilgrims did have a feast in 1621, after their first harvest, and it
is this feast, which people often refer to as quot; The First Thanksgiving quot;. This
feast was never repeated, though, so it can t be called the beginning of a tradition,
nor was it termed by the colonists or quot;Pilgrims quot; a Thanksgiving Feast. In
fact, a day of thanksgiving was a day of prayer and fasting, and would have been
held any time that they felt an extra day of thanks was called for. Nevertheless, the

The truth of the matter is, when the Pilgrims arrived, they found an abandoned
Wampanoag village and moved right in. In 1618, a massive epidemic of an
unknown disease left by English explorers swept across Wampanoag country and
decimated many of the villages. This epidemic caused the death of ten to thirty
percent of the total population and all but a few of the 2,000 people of the village
of Patuxet. When the Pilgrims arrived in 1620, they landed at Patuxet with no idea
of what had occurred. At this point, there were only about 2,000 members left in
the Wampanoag tribe, down from 12,000 in 1600. Despite the incredible losses to
his people, Wampanoag leader Massasoit and 90 of his men sat down for a harvest
celebration offered by the white men. For three days the Wampanoag and Pilgrims
feasted on deer, wild turkey, fish, beans, squash, corn and other foods native to
North America. Although the celebration was good natured, this event truly
signifies the beginning of a drastic decline of native culture and Thanksgiving
would be more fittingly observed as a day of mourning rather than a celebration.
In the years that followed, skirmishes occurred and more Native Americans were
killed. In 1637, English soldiers massacred 700 Pequot men, women and children as
an example of the English way of war, yet we still celebrate Thanksgiving as a
joyful event. So, as we sit down for our Thanksgiving dinner,

The Chinese Culture

The term culture has many meanings depending on the context in which it is
placed. Culture could mean the way that people have been used to a set system of
activities until it becomes a part of their inheritable knowledge, which they can pass
to the next generations. Customs and beliefs can also form the culture of people
who live in a common geographical location or the era in which they are living. In
the corporate world, for example, in an organization, the term culture can refer to as

There are many carvings in the Chinese museums, which were done centuries ago.
The carvings showed things like; how the Chinese are people who nurture creativity,
and this has explained the reason for their creativity even in this technological world.
Another art invented by the Chinese was the martial arts. The Chinese are well
known for practicing Kung Fu, and it has become a well known art in the
entertainment industry. Kung Fu was invented by copying the attacking techniques
of animals, and the Chinese has used it as an act of self defense to the extent that
there are Kung Fu classes that are taught for a fee.
Up until today, the Chinese still embrace their culture, and little westernization has
penetrated into the Chinese culture.

Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, and Buddhism. Apart from the ones mentioned,
there are also traditional religions such as Confucianism. Despite the religious

37. Causes Of Mass Incarceration
The reforms for Justice
The major cause of mass incarceration in the United States is Bail. Recently there
are several reforms that were passed, and there are several proposals under
consideration to fix this issue. A lot of people that are incarcerated toady committed
low offense charges. Hence, we need a fairer, and more effective justice system so
that more people could walk free rather than being locked up. With that said, bail is
used today as an entrapment, which opposed its original purpose. Most importantly,
of the people that are in jail, 60 percent haven t been convicted of anything. As we
can see, mass incarceration makes our country worsted off, and we need to do
something about it.
Did the entire Brooklyn got arrested today? said Pinto in his article titled, The Bail
Trap (page 6). Why do we arrest so many people daily? 365,000 people got arrested in
New York City in 2013. The overburdened justice system cannot handle the large
number of people that gets arrested daily. However, pleabargain is the way that the
system deals with this issue of arresting over a thousand people daily for low
offense charges. Ninety seven percent of the people that are arrested plead guilty.
The U.S. is at the highest incarceration rate in the world, therefore, we need a
reform to get rid of bail and to prevent police officers from arresting so many people.
Based on the Merriam Webster s online dictionary the word reform means, to

This assignment will explain the role of policies and procedures in helping children,
young people and their families.
Policies and procedures are set of guidelines and rules put in place by the government
to ensure the safety of children and young people while they are in care. It is
important that anyone working with children and young people is fully aware of
policies and procedures put in place in their setting and also aware of their role in
implementing these policies and procedures. Policies and procedures definite what

41. Manifestations Of Mass Culture In The 1950s
Manifestations of Mass Culture in the 1950 s such as Consumerism, Suburbia,
Materialism, were seen as a new prosperity combined with a buy now pay later
attitude began in America. These manifestations were realized primarily as new
forms of entertainment were disseminated to the American public through TV. 76
million Baby Boomers born between 1946 and 1964 provided the largest
generational market in American history. Marked by the end of World War 2 and
bolstered by the emerging prosperity of this period a number of mass media fueled
phenomenon began to grow into existence. Television, Suburbia, and Materialism
lead the way for aspired to lifestyles of the American Masses. Arguably most
important of these three was TV in that it provided the medium by which practically
all of the manifestations of Mass Culture were disseminated among the populace.
Affordable by most, by 1960 ninety percent of American households owned a TV.
Supplying the medium by which both the markets and the supply side of the
American economy were watching and capitalizing on, recreated and revolutionized
much of the American economy. Most TV programing in the late fifties and early
sixties was generally conservative and projected mainstreamtraditional American
values. By pleasantly creeping into homes with this mainstream methodology TV
became an institutional mainstay and a necessity of the American wayof life. From
overnight fads to religion, many new products were entering mainstream

Tulipmania
What was Tulipmania? Tulipmania was the craze trade of tulip bulbs in Holland.
The selling and trading of tulips went on until 1637 when it took a sudden
downhill. (Goldgar) Back then they would sell tulip bulbs for more than the price
of their house. This is a perfect example of the many risks you take that can lead to
a financial crash ( A story of tulips and bitcoin : When tulips cost as much ... ). The
main place for trading tulips was the Menniste Bryloft, owned by Jan Theunisz at the
time. The Mennist Bryloft was a tavern in Amsterdam, Holland. Lots of visitors and
tourists would come to this tavern just to see the different artwork, water features,
and to trade tulip bulbs. People with similar interests to tulip trading would also
meet here. The people that would meet here were often apart of a drama or poetic
group(Goldgar). The tulip was first found in Europe in the late 16th century(Price).
There are lots of different types of tulips that they would trade. The tulips contained
a virus that changed the appearance of the tulip(Beattie). There are red and yellow
striped tulips and purple and white striped tulips called switsers(Goldgar). There are
over 3,000 varieties of tulips( Tulip Types ). ( Admin )... Show more content on

As shown in this picture prices for tulips gradually increased and dramatically
decreased over a short period of time. This dramatic decrease of price came with
the loss of selling tulips. Tulips sold for really high prices when everybody wanted
them. Later when lots of people started to sell tulips for profits, nobody would buy
any because everybody was trying to do the same thing(Price). This ended in one of
the biggest economic crashes. Causing everybody to go
43. Barack Obama Keynote Speech Essay
In 2004, Barrack Hussein Obama was a little known state senator from Illinois. As
Saturday Night Live put it, in 2007 he stumbled out of a soup kitchen with a
basketball and a cigarette . However, in 2004, he got his first piece of nationwide
exposure when he delivered the keynote speech to the Democratic National
Convention. Despite the relatively low coverage of the speech by major cable news
networks, videos of the speech have garnered over twelve million views on YouTube.
In Obama s historic address, his use of Aristotelian rhetoric impressed the nation and
led to his eventual election as president.

Obama begins the speech by stating, On behalf of the great state of Illinois,
crossroads of a nation, land of Lincoln... (Obama 1). This start to the address
immediately sets into people s mind that he is not just a nobody, he is a state senator.
Additionally, he ties himself to Lincoln through their shared home state. This seems
to make the audience more apt to listen to Obama, which is very effective. Obama
then turns to the stated purpose of his speech, promoting nominee John Kerry, saying
...a man to lead us who embodies the best this country has to offer. (Obama 3). This
acknowledges Kerry s nomination for president from the Democratic Party.
Additionally, it announces Obama s belief that Kerry truly is the best nominee that
the party has to offer. When he later states all of the things that he believes embody
the best of John Kerry, he sticks to non partisan issues; healthcare, energy
independence, freedom, and hard work take the forefront of his list. This list
coupled with the anaphora ( John Kerry believes ) further enforce the point that John
Kerry is the best choice for president. His statement ...in a dangerous world, war
should never be the first option. (Obama 3) juxtaposes Kerry with the Republican
candidate, George Bush, who was criticized for rushing into the Afghanistan War.
This raises Kerry relative to his opponent. The juxtaposition is a powerful
44. Character Analysis Of Angie In The Gift Of Cochise
The traditional western hero has so closely synonymized itself with the image of the
rugged, horse riding, cowboy hat wearing, gun shooting white man, that a fearful
wife and mother appears entirely antithetical to the very notion of the frontier hero.
Yet, Louie L amour adeptly crafts his western hero out of the very same
aforementioned traits through his character Angie in The Gift of Cochise. Angie s
logical, pragmatic, and calculated actions, because of her role as a wife and mother,
allow her to successfully advance westward and settle in Apache territory as the
rightful western hero of the story. While various male characters attempt dutifully to
satisfy Turner s hypothesis of advancement westward, their reckless approach to the...

His descriptions as tough and brawling emphasize the resilience associated with the
traditional western hero. However, his lack of defined purpose in continuing his
pursuit westward causes him to fall short of truly encapsulating the western hero.
Angie Lowe, in contrast, diverges from her father s credulous justification for
moving west, by choosing to move for the particular reason of helping her husband,
settling when she sees a territory satisfactory for her family. Her fulfillment of Turner
s hypothesis centers around her duty as a wife to help Ed leave Santa Fe for a more
suitable home rather than the intangible and nebulous allure of the glorified west. L
amour deliberately mentions that Angie, not Ed, chooses the property on West Dog
Canyon, implying that the move into the frontier is solely because Santa Fe [is] not
good for Ed (L amour 58). More importantly, unlike her father, who continues
moving even after finding a wife and having a kid, Angie stops once she finds the
house with grass, water, and shelter from the wind, [that] Angie with an Irish eye for
the land saw would grow crops (L amour 58). As evidenced by Angie s choice to
move west, not because of glory or adventure, but for the practical advancement of
her family, Angie more successfully fills the role of the western hero. While her

this is going to improve our company s ability to serve everyone that much better and

46. The Lottery Persuasive Analysis
Just because someone is standing up for what is right does not mean they will
always be well liked or they will fit in with everyone. If someone stands up for what
is right and everyone else disagrees with them there may be some serious
consequences. In The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, Tessie Hutchinson spoke against
their tradition, nobody would listen to her but she still spoke against it. She tried
and tried, no matter how difficult it was, to get into the townspeople s mind that
they should not be doing what they are doing, that it is wrong. Some people are
not as brave as Tessie Hutchinson, Martin Niemoller, for example, had the chance
to speak up against the Nazi, he had the chance to speak for what is right, instead he
kept silent in First they came . It is hard standing up for what is right, especially
when you do not know what the consequences are, whether you ll get hurt or teased
or whether somebody else will.
In detail, The Lottery is about standing up for what is right is not always the easiest
path. For example, Some places have already quit lotteries Mrs. Adams said.
Another quote that goes along with that is, Nothing but trouble in that, Old Man
Warner said stoutly. Pack of young fools. (paragraph 33 34). The reason why this
relates to the text because this is the time that Tessie Hutchinson could have stood
up and told everyone that it is not right to have this lottery, instead she kept quiet
because she knew it was not going to be easy standing up to the whole town and
saying that what they are doing is not right. She could have stood up more than she
did, instead she chose to wait until it was her who won the lottery. Another
example to support the theme is, Tessie Hutchinson shouted to Mr. Summers, You
didn t give him time enough to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn t fair!
(paragraph 45), another quote that goes along with it is, Be a good sport Tessie,
Mrs. Delacroix called, and Mrs. Graves said, All of us took the same chance.
(paragraph 46). The reason why these two pieces of evidence supports the theme,
standing up for what s right may not always be the easiest path, is by showing that
Tessie does stand up. Maybe she is not standing up for the fact that

founder of PR Communications, then gives Vince the opportunity to completely turn

Vince let it get to the point where he could do nothing else but let them go. We
obviously don t know every detail in the case but it s assumed that the presidents did
not want to help with the integration. If anything they were working against the grain
doing spiteful things that slowed down Vince s movement. Its unknown what type of
relationship Vince had with the division presidents from the beginning, but it appears
as if the divisional presidents felt as if they had not reason to know him or have a
relationship with him.
With constant tension between the presidents and Vince he could not get them on
board to fix the business. Vince was told to do whatever it takes by Roman the
founder and he did so. Vince gave everyone plenty of opportunities, and plenty of
time until he saw the presidents as a liability rather then an asset. The main problem
on why Vince could not get the divisional president on board was because personally
they had no reason. Their pay was not based on company performance, and the
integration would just make more work for them. Vince should have devised an
incentive program. Although they may not have deserved it, or they needed any
more money, it would have been worth it to Vince. He would not have to have gone
through as much trouble, and he would not have had to do everything on his own, or
rely only on himself. If he awarded a bonus in incremental order to encourage
competition things would have

Thousands of years ago highly advanced ancient peoples built huge megalithic
structures and temples that aligned with the sun at the equinoxes and solstices, some
such as the Great Pyramids, Angkor Wat, and Easter Island even align with each

still survive today, although many others passed into history.
While traditions often change their shape or lose their meaning through time, these
stone monuments have withstood thousands of years. They were purposefully built

Connect with the Heavens and the Earth by Celebrating the Solstices and Equinoxes
Solstices and equinoxes are a time of connection between the heavens and the earth,
the personal and the divine, the inner and the outer, the material and the spiritual, and
even a time when contact through mystical experiences is made more possible. It is a
beautiful time, which unfortunately we as a humanity have lost touch with, as did
other cultures who degenerated in the past and lost their spiritual foundation.
By taking part in ceremonies to celebrate the solstices and equinoxes, one is able to
use the event for its higher purpose just as the ancients did to connect with the divine,
to understand cosmic, eternal principles through intuitive experience and the cycles
of nature, and to take the spiritual nourishment needed to help toward awakening.
This is not simply the revival of something past, but the partaking in something
eternal that permeates our lives, even if we pay little attention to
49. Emerson s Essay On Truth And Lies In A Non-Moral Sense
Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay, Nature further examines the ideas of truth and
concepts introduced by Friedrich Nietzsche in On Truth and Lies in a Non Moral
Sense. Nietzsche interpretations of the truths of the universe and the language we use
to enforce those truths were wrong. Nietzsche, like Emerson, believed we had to
conceive our own knowledgeand truthin the universe, however, he did not introduce
how to go about doing so. Emerson, furthers Nietzsche s theory on truth and
concepts into his own theory on Nature and proposes knowledge on how to go
about seeking these truths for yourself. Nietzsche s theory of truth states that truth
in itself is a metaphor. Nietzsche was the opposite of Emerson because he had an
existentialist view on the world. Whereas, Emerson believed there was a god and
that he performed great miracles, giving him a transcendentalist view on the
world. Nietzsche titles his essay, On Truth and Lies in a Non moral Sense, because
we receive our morals from our religious beliefs, but since he did not believe in a
god, that highlights even further his dismay with truths in our language. We are
told these concepts that we tell ourselves and convince ourselves are true, just to
develop a logical sense of truth in our society. He believed we all formed these
concepts or categories in where we group individual objects together to make sense
of them. Nietzsche states in, On Truth and Lies in a Non moral Sense, Just as it is
certain that one leaf is never

51. Zeff And Brown Accounting
Zeff (1978, p. 56) describes economic consequences as the impact of accounting
reports on the decision making behavior of business, government, unions, investors
and creditors. It is argued that the resulting behavior of these individuals and groups
could be detrimental to the interests of other affected parties. And, the argument goes,
accounting standard setters must take into consideration these allegedly detrimental
consequences when deciding on accounting questions. Brown (1990, p. 89) states
financial information prepared in accordance with these standards can make a
difference in the decisions reached by suing the information...most accept the notion
that cost/benefit considerations should enter into setting accounting standards.
Changes should be made only when expected benefits exceed anticipated cost.
similarly echoes Zeff s position. Zeff and Brown seem to be of a similar mindset
whereas Siegel (2013, p. 1) states economic consequences are what results from
neutral, relevant financial information. If the market is provided with neutral,
relevant financial information, the economy will, benefit. Siegel seems to have a
similar perspective but how does one determine if the information is neutral and

George Washington s Secret Six: The Spy Ring That Saved the American Revolution,
a monograph written by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger, narrates the Culper Spy
Ring s operation in New York City and its contribution toward the American victory
over the Great Britain in the American Revolution. Under the order of General
George Washington, Major Benjamin Tallmadge established the Culper Spy Ring
with the purpose to outspy the British troops activities and movements in Manhattan,
therefore allowing the Continental Armyto recapture New York City. The ring
included six members: Robert Townsend, Abraham Woodhull, James Rivington,
Austin Roe, Caleb Brewster, and the secret Agent 355; under the command of
General Washington and Major Tallmadge, these six members collected information
about the British troops activities in Manhattan, subsequently sending the information
via an intelligence route to General George in order to help him anticipating and
making appropriate moves to counter the British schemes. Although there were
sacrifices during the operation of the Culper Spy Ring, typically the loss of Agent
355, the Secret Six s espionage significantly contributed toward the American victory,
even with New Work City being occupied by the British Army.
Throughout the book, the authors imply that the Culper Spy Ring played a
significant role in saving the Continental Army from losing the American Revolution.

The Stonewall Rebellion or Stonewall Riots was a series of violent riots that took
place between gay and trans activists, drag queens, and other patrons of The
Stonewall Inn against the police after a raid had been carried out by the Sixth
Precinct police. The days and rebellions that followed are monumental moments in
LGBT and World history.
For New York s gay and trans communities the 1960 s marks a turning point in their
history; Sodomy had been reduced to a misdemeanour, with a maximum sentence of
six months in prison, the anti gay accommodation rules of the New York State Liquor

The Stonewall Inn had been registered as a private Bottle Bar which meant patrons
were expected to bring their own liquor. The Genovese Family would often bribe
the Sixth Precinct to turn a blind eye to the activities occurring in inn. However, in
the early hours of June 28th 1969 and readied with a warrant for storing and selling
