Mr. Broadfoot 20th of November 2012
Malnutrition Around the World For most us Americans, knowing when we re going to eat next
is something we very rarely think of, and when we do think about being hungry we still know
where our food is coming from. Three big meals a day, and a few snacks in between, is how
most of us live. It s hard for us to imagine what its like for those who go days eating very little or
nothing at all. But unfortunately that s how it is for most of the world and surprisingly it happens
in the United Sates as well. There are many reasons malnutrition can happen, and it happens to
every age group. Even though there are many ways to treat it, in the ... Show more content on

The ten states who felt it the most were Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, South Carolina,
Louisiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Arizona. (Haerens 36) While there are
malnourished people in America, it is much worse all around the world, mostly in third world
countries. There are three predominate reasons why third world countries are hit hard with
malnutrition, 1) poor families aren t given government help, 2) difficulties with economy and 3)
higher food prices. ( 2012 World Hunger... ) As stated in the website 2012 World Hunger and
Poverty Facts and Statistics, in the world there are 925 million hungry people, most of them in
Asia, the Pacific and Africa. These people live on $1.25 or less a day. Minimum wage is $7.25
in the U.S., and most people work 8 hours a day, so that means they would be getting fifty eight
dollars a day. It would take someone in a third world country about forty seven days to make
what someone makes in America in 8 hours. And most of them spend that money on food and
medical needs, but $1.25 is not enough. In the United States if a family doesn t have enough
money for medical help, they can still go see a doctor, but in other countries it s very different.
More than 30,000 children die per year from preventable sickness because they can t go see a
doctor. And as for food, Americans have access to food every hour of the day. The wealthiest 5th
of the world consumes 86% of all goods, as stated in Child Welfare League of

Some of the most common cybersecurity technologies that exist today include: Intrusion detection
systems, Intrusion prevention systems, Encryption, and Firewalls for network protection, as well
as, biometric measures like fingerprint scans for access control. These technologies offer a baseline
of security protection against the most common threats.
Intrusion detection and prevention systems monitor traffic/ logs either on the individual host or on
the network in real time looking for signatures of common attacks or anomalies that will trigger an
alarm either of an attack in motion or an attack that has already occurred.
Firewalls monitor network traffic in real time and either allows or denies certain traffic into or out
of the network based on the type of firewall and the rules they are programmed to follow. Firewalls
are a very important baseline in system infrastructure and design.
Encryption is one of the most important technologies of cybersecurity designed to protect the
confidentiality of data. Encryption uses a complex mathematical formula and a key which
randomizes and creates a coded or encrypted message. Only the party that the message or data is
originally intended for can read in plain text by using the appropriate key to decrypt the data. Some
encryption algorithms such as AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) are very complex

The Moral Issue Of Vivisection
Paige Simone English Research Skills Atrocities are not less atrocities when they occur in
laboratories and are called medical research. ~George Bernard Shaw (1856 1950) Introduction
The everyday products we use such as toothpaste, makeup, and medicines have more than likely
been tested on an animal in a laboratory before being available for human consumption. These
animals suffer greatly and live lives of isolation and torture. They endure cruel treatment all in
the name of scientific research. Many people believe that these tests are necessary to discover
cures for human illnesses. This is simply not the case. There is a large amount of research that
indicates that animal experiments often lacks validity and do not stand up when transferred to
human beings. In addition, the moral issue of vivisection is one that we must all struggle with as
human beings. Mohandas Gandhi said I abhor vivisection with my whole soul. All the scientific
discoveries stained with innocent blood I count as of no consequence. and To my mind the life of
a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being. I should be unwilling to take the life of a
lamb for the sake of the human body. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is
to the protection by man from the cruelty of man. Scientists and all human beings alike have an
obligation to develop alternative methods of testing drugs and products that do not harm animals.

The Consequences Of Student Athletes
First off, the athletes are the root of all the income the NCAA brings in. Billions of dollars are
raked in off of athletes effort. The NCAA states, The most recent estimate from the NCAA research
staff is that college athletics programs annually generate about $6.1 billion from ticket sales, radio
and television receipts, alumni contributions, guarantees, royalties and NCAA distributions.
Another $5.3 billion is considered allocated revenue, which comes from student fees allocated to

this money is seen by the source of it. With this kind of revenue, paying the student athletes just a

But college athletes do not get a royalty or any sort of payment for being in an NCAA sponsored
video game. College athletes included in a video game are currently not being paid. The entire
college sports organization seems like they want to avoid athletes making profits in any way,
shape or form. Overall, athletes should be paid because their performance and their title are the
source of all the NCAA s revenue.
At the same time, these athletes are gold mines; they are living something far from an ordinary
student life. People have the perception of college athletes living the dream of playing their sport
in school, and returning home to a comfortable lifestyle. The actual reality has been swept under
the rug. For instance, Jason Perry, a Track and Field athlete from the Universityof North Carolina,
explains, College athletes are known to encounter unique stress factors that the general student
population does not always face. Because of this, student athletes can be at a higher risk of
anxiety and depression (Perry 1). The unique stress factors that Jason is pertaining to are: money
troubles, physical and mental issues, high levels of stress, and balancing being a student and an
athlete. Comparatively, these kinds of struggles are similar to ones of someone who works a job.
However, an athlete, unlike a worker, is not awarded a pay for their efforts and accomplishments.

United States Political Thought Today Is Considered A...
United States political thought today is considered a democracy. A democracy is where the citizens
of the United States are eligible to vote for the leaders that represent their country. Without the
drafting of the British documents, such as The Magna Carta and the Petition of Rights along with
the political upheaval of the Glorious Revolution and Enlightenment, America today would be
following the traditional acts of arbitrary monarchical rule. All of these specific times in history
were outcomes of people seeing that absolute monarchies were troubling for the fundamental rights
of the people. Being under an absolute monarchy is similar to being under a dictatorship which
leaves no say in the hand of the people.
The Magna Carta, also known as The Great Charter, was the catalyst for creating a representative
democracy. The King of England, King John was forced by his barons to sign the charter to
establish that the monarch was no longer absolute and that the people were guaranteed a trial by
jury and due process of law. King John is considered to be one of the worst kings in history. He
was not in favor of the people, he was in favor of himself. Being an avaricious king, he would
penalize any baron who went against his wishes. In 1206, King John lost some land that he was
insistent on getting back. Normandy, Anjou, Maine and parts of Poitou were no longer under his
control. In attempt to retrieve his land he imposed heavy taxes upon his citizens. If the people

Memorable Moment
That night was a game I will always remember. It brings me great joy and gives me deep pride. It is
one of the greatest feelings I have ever experienced in my life. It was and still is a moment that I
look back on and reminisce. I used to work for a private company at Tinian Dynasty Hotel Casino
as a Casino Dealer, and that memorable moment happened when I played basketballwith my casino
team. I have played basketball tournaments in high school and in government leagues, however,
none of them compares when I played in Tinian Dynasty s Inter Department Basketball Tournament.
It was a popular event that happens every year between different departments of the company, and I

There was about 00.04 seconds left in the game, and the other team still had to inbound the ball
back into the court for their chance to score. A player from the other team, still dazed and
confused, did not know what to do and tried to pass the ball to his teammate, but miraculously,
one of my teammates, Elmo, was able to intercept the ball and lay it up for a quick basket. As I
watch the ball drop to the bottom of the net, that is when I heard the sound of the horn go off.
The final seconds of the game has ended, and our team and fans went jumping up and down,
yelling and screaming in celebration and joy. It was then we were declared the victors. The final
score of the game was 106 105. It was an unbelievable basketball game I ever played. The feeling
was like playing in the NBA. Everyone else as well who witnessed the night of our comeback
victory were amazed. All I could ever think of now was just how I reacted without even thinking
about what to do during those last eleven seconds. Just never giving up was my mentality. Time
was short, but felt long and fast. I was placed in a time zone where I will always remember that

The Fundamental Economic Principles
Part 1 Scarcity When humans moved from hunter/gatherer societies to villages and then cities, a
division of labor occurred. Some people became producers of food, some processors, some the
ancillary goods and services that are necessary for humans to live together. They found that
sometimes there was a surplus of goods, and sometimes a lack of goods. This lack of goods is
called the scarcity principle, and it is the fundamental economic principle of needing (or wanting)
goods in a world that has limited resources. It means that in society, there will almost always be
situations in which there are insufficient resources to fulfill all human wants and needs. Of
course this also implies that at any given time, not all individual or group goals can be provided,
which results in tradeoffs and substitutions. If we think about scarcity as a principle, then the idea
of having scarce resources becomes a fundamental principle of what we call economics really the
science of the relationship between production, goods and services, and the amounts we have of
each. In any given group (society) there are needs for resources. Resources are the way we make
products or turn raw products into something useful (agriculture). Resources might be land, raw
materials like ores, etc. Then human resources are necessary to turn these raw recourses into
something useful; metal, flour from grain, wine or beer from grain as well, meat prepared for
human consumption, etc. Often these particular

Medical Insurance and Different Types of Coverage Essay
Are you aware that many Americans do not have medical insurance coverage? The recent passing
of the Affordable Care Act, mandates that Americans must have an insurance policy that provides
minimum essential coverage. Because of this, many Americans have been looking into different
types of healthcare coverage. Insurancecompanies can tailor a customer s health insuranceplan so
that it meets their specific health needs, and budget. Good coverage, however, does not come
cheap. The customer will typically get what they pay for. Many different types of healthcare
insurance offer different types of coverage, such as premium cost, prescription costs, and co pays
for emergency visits.
PREMIUM COSTS
When a person choses a health insurance plan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The average cost of health insurance in the United States is approximately $411 per month for
individual coverage and approximately $1155 per month for family coverage ( How Much Is
Average Health Insurance per Month? , n.d.). As you can see, monthly premium costs can also
become expensive. Premium costs are not the cost associated with health insurance. Healthcare
coverage commonly has other annual costs. The most common annual cost is called an annual
deductible. It works in the same manner as a deductible for damages to an automobile.
Deductibles are paid in addition to the premium cost. You pay the premium cost to keep your
insurance coverage, but when you use health care services, you must pay your deductible before
your health insurance begins to pay. The average deductible was $2,086 for a single person and
just over $4,000 for a family (Fuquay, 2013). The costs seem to be piling up, but there is good
news: not all health plans have a deductible. On average, if you pay a higher premium, there tends
to be little or no deductible. And on the other hand, low premium plans usually have a high
deductible. Cost for health insurance coverage can become very expensive when you calculate
premium costs and deductibles together.
PRESCRIPTION COSTS There are usually some types of cost that a person must pay when they
need prescriptions. These costs can change depending on what pharmacy they get the prescriptions
filled at. Recent

The Unnecessary Decline of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire
Upon reviewing the drama, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, it would appear that
the character of Blanche DuBois is worthy of closer inspection. With her previous occupation as a
teacher of American literature and her former social status being that of a well bred woman of the
very traditional Old South, Blanche could be any human being transferring from one culture to
another with customs far different from the ones being left behind. Even today it could happen that
someone is suddenly confronted with a totally new and different value system with which he must
learn to cope in order to be accepted into his new environment. That is the ... Show more content on

Blanche depends on manner, on affected little girl innocence, to sustain her (Hirsch 33). That is
quite evident at the very beginning of the play when she seems to be disgusted by the way her
sister lives with her husband. However, Blanche s evasive explanation of her early arrival, before
the end of the spring term at the school in Laurel, is a clear indication that something went wrong
with Blanche. In her first meeting with Stanley it becomes quite clear that Stanley and Blanche are
antagonist and protagonist. Twice in scene 1, a cat screeches near the window, startling Blanche
and now summoning up a cat and mouse image for the relationship between Stanley and Blanche
(Londre 47).
In the second scene, the audience witnesses Blanche s obsessive bathing, just to quiet my nerves
(Williams 39) as she told her sister Stella, but it is a nominal gesture of guilt and wished for
redemption (Bloom 16). In a single moment of deviation from her mood of gaiety in this scene,
Blanche withholds a faded, ribbon tied sheaf of love letters: Poems a dead boy wrote. I hurt him
that way you would like to hurt me ... (Williams 41). That shows her feeling of guilt about the death
of her husband.
In the same scene Stanley reveals to Blanche that he is going to check her papers from Belle Reve,
inheritance having taken on added importance as Stella has taken on added girth with her
pregnancy. At that news, Blanche rushes to

Army Transformation Essay
The Army has transformed several times during its history. Adapting to the operational environment
is a necessity for the force called upon to prosecute its adversaries. The Army must do what is
necessary to protect the U.S. against all enemies, and advance the national interests of the American
people. To accomplish this, anticipation of threats is crucial and victory against its adversaries is
an imperative. The nation relies on the military for strategic level deterrence and expects that it will
be decisive in combat operations. For the military to be successful, it is important that
transformation adapt to meet these expectations by conforming to the requirements of a successful
force of the future in order meet any new threats in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor caused the U.S. Navy to transform doctrine as well.
Not every example of transformation works in every situation. The German Blitzkrieg worked in
France, where the distance from their lines of support were short. Conversely, this speed driven
technique did not work in Russia where time and distance became an adversary for the Germans.
During the interwar years, many European countries invested much into transforming their
militaries following lessons learned from World WarI. France is a prime example of a country that
invested into lessons from the previous war rather than developing a vision for potential future
events by spending billions of dollars increasing its Artillery and on building the Maginot line. As
history demonstrates, this investment would probably have worked fine during the previous war
but did not stop an attack by a German enemy that did transform for the future fight.
Why a Transformation
Though the concept of war has changed little through time, its conduct varies depending upon many
factors, which include but are not limited to demographics, political issues, and technology. To be
successful in combat, an Army must envision and adapt to these concerns. The dilemma, however,
to transformation can be the high cost of training, developing, and implementing the change.
Without a tangible reason for the change or a

Control In Ernest Gaines s A Lesson Before Dying
Control and its effect on entities based on observations of ENG3UT
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction Newton s third law. This law is just as
accurate for human interactions; for every content dominant man, there is a sad submissive man.
The symbolism used by Ernest Gaines, Henrik Ibsen, Ambrose Flack, and Isaac Asimov is used to
show how control over others, leads to sadness for the inferior person in the relationship. These
corrupt relationships are shown in A Lesson before Dying using the symbols, the broken books of
the black children, the electric chair and Pichot s kitchen, which help illustrate how groups in
control, the whites, will hurt subservient groups, the blacks. Nora s pet names, the children s maid,
and Krogstad s letters are symbols found in Doll s House and help show how one person who has
control over another is detrimental for the controled party. Finally, in the short stories, The Stranger
That Came To Town and The Fun They Had , symbols such as the soap bar that killed the fish, the
amputations of the Duvitch family and the slot used on the robot teacher, help show how a
dominant society harms individual in the minority.
In the book, A Lesson Before Dying, Ernest Gaines uses symbols to show how a dominant group
can oppress a minority group; whites control and harm blacks. One symbol he uses to express this
relationship is the broken textbooks of the black children. These books represent the dominance
the white have over the black educations, when the Teacher, Wiggins, tries to get better books,
Many of the books I have to use are hand me downs from the white schools, Dr. Joseph, [...] and
they have missing pages. How can I , the white inspector, Dr Joseph, quickly shuts him down,
Are you questioning me, Higgins? No, sir, Dr. Joseph. (Gaines 57) Wiggins does not have any
control in this situation, as shown with his submissiveness and Dr Joseph lack of care for his
name. Due to this lack of control, he cannot get better books. These books symbolise how the
whites are treating the black community, as lower and second class, they are only worthy of used
and broken items from the whites. The control over the black makes it that the children get a worst

Comparison Between Macbeth And Wuthering Heights
A Deeper look into Macbeth and Wuthering Heights
Shakespeare s Macbeth and Bronte s Wuthering Heights prove that men and women are crazy
when dealing with love. People get pushed to their breaking points by loved ones and never
question it. This is because they are blinded by the four letter word that is capable of ruining
someone s life. When you add greed and power into this malicious equation, it becomes even more
cruel. These two bodies of work prove that the men were more affected than the women. The men,
Macbeth and Heathcliff were manipulated by their women and the things going on around them. So
how do women really get control of the relationship?
In the beginning, it is known that Lady Macbeth just lost her infant. Macbeth is away but soon
returns. They both are going through a stage of grief but express it in two totally different ways.
Lady Macbeth was upset and it is clear. Usually when families lose a loved one the parents turn
against one another. But not these two, they are a bit strange. Macbeth considers killing King
Duncan so that he can soon take his place as king but this thought was quickly dismissed. Lady
Macbeth on the other hand wanted this thought to become a reality. Immediately Macbeth declined,
he wanted no part in this intolerable act. This is when Lady Macbeth knows she has to change his
mind. So she commence to antagonize him until she got her way. She makes him feel guilty about
not being loyal to her, making him seem weak, and untrustworthy;

Renewing Husbandry Analysis
Production based farming has provided small communities a new effective way of farming;
however, this type of farming has created more issues than solutions. In Renewing Husbandry,
Wendell Berry discusses the way communities have lost the practice of husbandry in farming to
production based farming. Also, he depicts the side effects production based farming has on the
small communities by demonstrating the loss of connection the farmers now have with the land
and communitythey provide for. Production based farming destroys the unity of small communities.
Production based farming drives people out of the smaller communities because the production
damages the economy of the town. Berry reflects, The little towns that once had been social... Show

In the passage Berry discusses, He is no longer working as an independent and loyal agent of his
place, his family, and his community, but instead as the agent of an economy that is
fundamentally adverse to him and to all that he ought to stand for (2005, para. 11). When
companies own farmland for production, the farmers who grow the goods do not have a voice in
the company s decisions and the way the goods produced are treated. Farmers who own their land
have the voice to demand the way their goods sell and the choice to provide for the family. The
farmers who grow the goods for the companies no longer have the relationship with the land and the
produce, because the company who owns the farm has total control over the production process.
The community no longer receives the profits from the goods because the companies take the
money from the owners leaving them with a small income for the mass amount of goods
produced. In addition to farmers working for companies, the companies more employees in the
farm than owners. Berry states in the passage: It has transformed the United States from a country
of many owners to a country of many employees (2005, para. 19). In the country, farmers work for
profit instead of working for their communities or family. The unity of the community decreases
when fewer owners own the farms because the farmers no longer provide the goods only for the
community the goods ship to many other places in the country. The companies take the goods away

The Current And Future Structure Of The Music Industry
1221581
Report critically discussing the current and future structure of the music industry in the United
Kingdom.
In this written report I shall be critically discussing the current and future structure of the music
industry in the United Kingdom.
The current structure can be laid out in the following manner:
Source: (Dustry, 2015)
PART 1 Labels, publishers and the Live Sector.
Labels
Firstly the focus of this report will be on the roles and the position of music labels. There are two
types of music label; a major label and an indie (independent label). A music label is a separate
entity which will supply an agreement between the artist and the label for a certain number of
tracks to be recorded, manufactured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following on further from this, the label then pays the artist royalties from sales. In more recent
times, both indie and major labels are including what is known as Ancillary Rights . Essentially,
this is a clause that labels add into a contract that states that they receive a cut of artist s earnings
which aren t directly related to the recording and release process. For example, should the artist sell
out and perform a huge capacity venue, the label would then expect a percentage of that live income.
Writing about indie labels in The Music Industry handbook , Rutter states Historically, many indies
have grown to become larger corporate structures, whereby their artists have become successful
through healthy consumer interest. Major music companies also work with successful
independents to upscale their operations; the major s powerful promotion and distributions
mechanisms facilitate greater product exposure for a percentage of the proceedings (Rutter, 2011)
Publishers
Publishers, or the act of publishing, entails an organisations acquirement of the copyrights to an
artist s material. We can look at the role of a publisher for both a songwriter, a performer, and an
artist who both writes their music and goes out to perform. Publishers will dedicate time, money,
energy and passion into an artist s career and help them to develop their songs into the industry.
Once a writer has completed a piece of music, there are

Stephen Mitchell s translation of The Book of Job tells the story of Job an upright, righteous
man with a big family and lots of property. He s so perfect that God boasts him to Satan and
describes him as a man of perfect integrity, who fears God and avoids evil (6). This prompts Satan
to offer to take away everything meaningful to Job in order to test his faith to God, and God agrees
to this. Just like that, Job loses all his servants, property, and family (except his wife). However, he
stays loyal, prompting Satanto give him a plethora of rashes and blisters all over his body to further
test him. This causes Job to start searching for explanations as to why this is all happening to him.
His friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Namathite, come to visit
him, and the four men discuss their thoughts on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in the First Round, he recounts a vision that conveyed to him the universal sinfulness
of man. Eliphaz sees this as proof that suffering is always justified. He says For pain does not
spring from the dust // or sorrow sprout from the soil: // man is the father of sorrow, // as surely
as sparks fly upward (18). Eliphaz is entirely convinced that Job must have sinned in some way,
and that there is no way that Job is having all this done to him without reason. Although it seems
accusatory, Eliphaz is speaking from his heart and truly trying to help Job and track down the
origin of his problems. However, Job is not very fond of the denunciations made by Eliphaz
against him and takes up a very defensive tone. He responds My friends are streams that go dry...
You too have turned against me (22). Job then tries to convey his honesty to his best ability and
prove that he is being truthful, which is very courageous considering everything that has happened

Effects Of European Exploration On The World
Effects Of European Exploration
By the late 1400 s into the 1500 s, European countries began to expand into the rest of the world.
This resurgence of trade interest resulted in a demand for foreign goods and exploration of water
routes. This Age of Exploration united the Americas with Europe, Asia, and Africa. The exchanges
were plentiful and stabilizing for many communities. However, along with the positive influences,
came the negative aspects, which impacted cultures and civilizations around the world. European
exploration changed travel, trade, health, religion, language, architecture, the economy, and
humanity. It is this author s position that the positive influences and contributions have had a
greater impact on growth and development globally than the challenges presented. Historically, the
Age of Exploration shaped the world as we know it today.
Many positive effects for the Age of Exploration can be identified. Historical discoveries and
persuasive revelations shaped every continent. Referring to the Island of Espanola, Columbus
wrote, It will serve as a place to which (colonists) can return and from which they can carry on trade
with the neighboring islands (Document 1). This quote shows that Columbus foresaw the potential
advantages of this exploration. He understood the longevity of the colonization and trade to come.
This historical time of transition is often referred to as the Columbian Exchange because it started
with Christopher Columbus.

Jonathan Swift Essay
Jonathan Swift 1. Swift wrote A Modest Proposal under a pseudonym, so who is the speaker
here? The speaker is a Protestant and a member of the Irish upper class. 2. Discuss the tone of
the piece. Pull examples from the text to support your discussion. Swift showed disgust for the
people who would rather beg than take care of themselves. He says, These mothers instead of
being able to work for their honest livelihood, are forced to employ all their time in strolling to
beg sustenance for their helpless infants who, as they grow up, either turn thieves for want of work,
or leave their dear native country, to fight for the Pretender in Spain, or sell themselves to the

6. Why is A Modest Proposal an effective satire? What techniques does Swift use effectively?
Support your answers with examples from the text. It is an effective satire because it gets the
point across very clearly. His descriptions are extremely grotesque and he talks about a very
feared subject, cannibalism. This helps draw attention to the seriousness of the problem. Swift
also provides statistics, which helps further draw attention to the problem. Some techniques he
uses are parody and exaggeration. He uses exaggeration to get his point across and he uses
parody to mock the situation. An example of his effective use of satire is, I have already
computed the charge of nursing a beggar s child (in which list I reckon all cottagers, labourers,
and four fifths of the farmers) to be about two shillings per annum, rags included; and I believe
no gentleman would repine to give ten shillings for the carcass of a good fat child, which, as I
have said, will make four dishes of excellent nutritive meat, when he hath only some particular
friend, or his own family to dine with him. Thus the squire will learn to be a good landlord, and
grow popular among his tenants, the mother will have eight shillings neat profit, and be fit for
work till she produces another child. 7. Swift enumerates six reasons his proposal will work.
Discuss how these paragraphs impact his purpose. Swift provides support for each reason he
presents in his essay.

Lustre Jug Analysis
Formal Analysis of a Lustre Jug Dated to 1185, the lustre jug is made of glazed terracotta by an
unknown artist. Despite its age, the jug is remarkably whole, missing only a small fragment on
its rim. In order to view all its designs, viewers would have to observe the jug from multiple
angles. This essay will analyse how the artist used lines, shape, and colour to explore the
dichotomy of containment and stasis in contrast to energy and movement. The jug has a limited
but warm colour palette of mostly brown and white, which imbues it with a dignified and
understated elegance. Despite its restrained earthy colours that suggest stability, the use of spirals
and kinaesthetic imagery evokes the ideas of energy and movement. Upon closer observation,
viewers notice that the lustre of the jug has cracked in several places and acquired different hues
in other spots, probably due to age. Such subtle changes in colour, in addition to its glossy surface,
slightly dramatize the muted main colours of the jug. This adds to a feeling of dynamism that
paradoxically emanates from a stationary object.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It appears rather squat, with a large horizontally bulging middle. The jug is symmetrical,
composed of a vertical axis that runs downwards along the handle from the neck to its base.
However, the middle portion of the jug has a horizontal pattern that disrupts the harmony of its
symmetric shape. This dissonance between the volumetric and exterior properties of the jug
instils it with a semblance of volatility, diminishing the sense of balance achieved by its
symmetrical shape. Viewers would also notice that the jug s interior is glazed along its rim. The
artist may have done so deliberately to make the jug more aesthetically appealing when viewed
from a distance, as there would be a completed and symmetrical brown

THE PARMALAT SCANDAL
The Parmalat situation started out as a fairly standard although sizeable accounting fraud. Not even
the best auditors could prepare for what was to come from this company. The Parmalat group, a
world leader in the dairy food business, collapsed and entered bankruptcy protection in December
2003 after acknowledging massive holes in its financial statements. This happened when billions of
euros seem to have gone missing from the company s accounts. This dramatic collapse has led to
the questioning of the soundness of accounting and financial reporting standards as well as of the
Italian corporate governance system. Parmalat, which is headquartered in the central Italian city of
Parma, was, like most Italian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the money that moved in, around and out of the company has since been traced, although
the final destination of some of it is still unknown. Tanzi has admitted transferring some €500
million to family firms, but investigators say that up to €1.3 billion may have gone this route.
Tanzi was sentenced to 10 years in prison for fraud relating to the collapse of the dairy group. The
other seven defendants, including executives and bankers, were acquitted. Another eight defendants
settled out of court in September 2008. In September 2009, three lawsuits by Parmalat Capital
Finance Ltd. and Enrico Bondi, CEO of Parmalat, against Bank of America and auditors Grant
Thornton, were dismissed.
In an attempt to downplay the extent to which corruption and fraud have penetrated to the heart of
global capitalism, commentators have seized on the fact that many of Parmalat s former top
executives are related to claim that the scandal is simply a case of a family firm failing to adhere
to good corporate governance practices. Not surprisingly, Parmalat s top executives are going along
with this story, insisting they were only acting under orders from the padrone. The scandal,
however, has engulfed other major firms. There are the accounting firms Grant Thornton and

Love and Death in Tristan by Gottfried Von Strassburg’s
Love always seems to find a place in someone s heart not by choice but by admiration. One who
admires another appears to feel something towards the person they are admiring and that feeling
they have can lead into the feeling of love. Despite all of Love s joy and excitement, Gottfried Von
Strassburg s Tristanand Thomas Tristan, reveals the way loveoverwhelms a person and the
outcomes that happen when two lovers cannot be near or without each other. Love s overwhelming
feeling often associates with death, in that those in love are so consumed with emotion and the
desire to be with their beloved that it can lead to their downfall. Even though the loves of Rivalin
and Blancheflor and Tristan and Isolde/Ysolt are similar in ways, they also are different.
Both Rivalin and Blancheflor and Tristan and Isolde undergo the torments of love which lead to
their demise. Both sets of lovers fall madly in love and give themselves up to their passion for
one another with a disregard for consequences in a similar fashion. The episodes of Rivalin and
Blancheflor and the Love Potion by Gottfried is very similar to the episode of the death of Tristan
and Ysolt by Thomas. Both Rivalin and Blancheflor and Tristan and Isolde die yearning to be with
one another. In Thomas version in the episode of the death of Tristan and Ysolt, Tristan s death
comes from an inflicted wound which can only be cure by his lover, Ysolt. Thomas states, He longs

Bogus War on Drugs
Purpose of the Study Purpose Statement: to reveal the problem of mass incarceration of poor,
black male, and increasingly female, young people in the name of a bogus war on drugs from the
1980 s?90 s.
The purpose of this study is to expose the process of mass incarceration of poor black males, and
females increasingly, within the context of a fabricated war on drugs which really is serving to
keep the prison population booming by exploiting traditionally disadvantaged minorities in
society. Alexander rightfully calls this a ?redesign? of the old racial caste system in America
which was supposed to have been destroyed by the civil rights movement. The war on drugs in the
80s merely became the newest vehicle by which to exploit the black community in this country.
The War on Drugs is really the rationale for racial control, which targets black men and women
and relegates millions of citizens to what Alexander calls a ?second class status (Alexander, 2012).?
This is written as if not a call to action, then a call to galvanize. The purposes of this report is to
enable readers to through empirical and contextual description see the war on drugs for what is
really is: a public relations ploy whose end results are not fighting drugs, but

Abstract Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is the collection of physical measurements in a
geographical area. It tracks the spatial average of the sensor measurements in a region. Since it is
highly vulnerable to sensor faults and measurement noise the average operation is not robust. In
this paper the proposed computational efficient method is used to compute a weight average of
sensor measurement. It takes consideration of sensor faults and sensor noise. WSN uses random
projections of sensor to compress data and send the compressed data to the data fusion center. The
computation efficient method uses the data fusion center for direct work with the compressed data
stream. The fusion center performed decompression at the time of computed weighted average.
Thus, it reduces the computational requirements. Hence the proposed method gives better accuracy
and more efficient for the WSN.

tolerance, data fusion, robust averaging.

Allusions In The Christmas Carol
The Christmas Carol is a magnificent movie which shows Ebenezar Scrooge a grumpy old man
who changes his future. Ebenezar will go on a magical journey where he will see his past, present,
and future with the help of the ghosts of past, present, and future, which changes Scrooge for the
better. In the ChristmasCarol you find many allusions, metaphors, allegories, paradoxes,
personifications. An example of a foreshadowing would be of how Mr. Scrooge is an old
grumpy and gloomy man, and while I was watching this I thought they were implying that
something sad has happened in his life to make Mr. Scrooge to be so dark and dreary. In the
Christmas Carol scrooge has an employee Mr. Cratchet who is happy and joyful. Scrooge has a
nephew who does the same thing every Christmas Day invites his uncle to go dine with him, but
unsurprisingly Scrooge declines every year. The movie shows why he is full of sadness and that

cared about money instead of joyful times.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

change for the better. It is anthropomorphism because the candle has feelings for Scrooge and was

The Crucible Reputation Essay
In the play, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, the people of Salem, Massachusetts prove time and time
again that they care more about their reputations than the events that are taking place and how these
events are affecting the people around them. Having a good reputation can be a good thing but
when being concerned about your reputation clouds your judgement, that is when it becomes a
dilemma. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller uses having a good reputation, the character of Parris, and
how reputation and The Crucible tie into modern life to enlighten the reader that even though
having a good reputation is great, it should not cloud one s ability to see the harm they are doing to
others.

In other words, having a good reputation can be good, as can most things, as long as one does not
focus solely on it.
Another thing Miller illustrates, through the character of Parris, is that trying to keep a good
reputation will make one focus mainly on themselves, making them less empathetic and blind to the
struggles of others. Parris is not the only one guilty of this though. In a piece titled Reputation of
The Crucible it says, John Proctor and Parris both were very concerned that their reputation was at
stake in many different instances in this play The Crucible (Reputation of the Crucible). Our
reputations, like the image of the characters John Proctor and Parris, are always at stake and it is
important to be careful not to do things that will interfere with our status. Though not the only
one, Parris is a major offender of letting his image and his reputation cloud his judgement and
even get in the way of his duties as a father. The piece later states, When the play first begins,
Parris fears that Abigail, his niece, is convicted of being a witch because of her intolerable actions,
and the witchcraft that associates with his daughter s coma will cause much chaos and bring down
his power as a Reverend in Salem. Parris feels that power and reputation is the most important thing

Crooks Dialectical Journal
After reading chapter 3 and 4 of the novel Of Mice and Men, an important quote stood out to me

Earlier chapters describe how he was not allowed to sleep in the bunkhouse with everyone else
and had to be separated in a room by himself. Moreover, it is a rare occasion does people ever visit
him, on the exception for Slim. The obvious interpretation would be the connection it holds to the
racism that existed at the time, but I perceived a deeper connection behind his response.
Although Crooks is a diligent and hardworking stable buck, he experiences loneliness from unequal

The Legacy Of Pompey The Great
Introduction
Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus, known as Pompey or Pompey the Great , was a military leader and a
politician, who along with Crassus and Caesar formed the first Triumvirate, making him one of the
most powerful men in Rome. A man who demanded respect from all, he gained power through his
military prowess and influence, and even had the gall to give himself the title Magnus, which was
Latin for the word Great . Pompey obviously was following the steps of the Macedonian General
and leader Alexander the Great. Pompey s life was littered with amazing military feats and
achievements, yet despite his connections and military might, Pompey had an army of veterans,
and in particular was strong in the naval area, the ever popular and legendary Julius Caesar
triumphed between the titans for the right to rule.
Pompey s motivations
Pompey was an intelligent and ambitious person who from the beginning had aimed for glory.

Team Dynamics and Conflict Resolution Strategies
Team Dynamics and Conflict Resolution Strategies
University of Phoenix Success in many areas of our lives, be it family, education, business, or

in work or activity...a group on one side (Merriam Webster, 2008). There are many types of teams,
work teams, school teams, sports teams, families etc. The fact remains that teams, because they are
made up of imperfect human beings, are inherently dysfunctional ( Lencioni, 2002). This inherent
dysfunction is more commonly referred to as conflict. Working teams/groups need to be able to

Arbitration is mainly for a more serious problem within a team. Most teams never make it to the
point of arbitration. The process is held within a room that is similar to a court room. This is a
process in which the disputes wave the right of a jury.
With the amount of conflict in this world, it is good to know different ways of solving the conflict
quickly and professionally. Negotiation should most always be used at the first step in conflict
resolution. It is the easiest strategy to implement, and has the benefit of keeping the conflict within
the team. When a decision cannot be made, there are times that an impartial third party needs to be
involved. Mediation is the next step from negotiation and helps bring the opposing sides closer to,
if not make, a final decision by the use of a fresh pair of eyes . When the conflict almost gets to
the worst place possible then arbitration is the strategy to use. Arbitration brings in the big guns
with the use of the arbitrator. This decision is the end all, legally binding, conclusion of the
situation. In the end, teamwork is the best way to avoid conflicts. When a group of people
successfully work together toward a common goal, while taking in everyone s strengths and

anything I had seen prior to it s hunts . It s body was covered in blood and dirt and scars of all
types, and it was clad in an olive t shirt and a pair of jeans, both ripped and heavily stained. Long,
cleaving claws extended from the ends of it s digits. Having seen the creature every night for
years I could nearly draw it from memory, except the few details which encompass it s face.
Despite 15 years of seeing the creature, I had never once, seen the details above a particularly
repugnant, ever bleeding, scar on his neck. Though I had never seen it s face, I had often heard
it s voice . Growls, groans, and various guttural noises would always reveal it s presence. At times
even the world kill would come in with the same voice as the noises of the creature. When I had
first started seeing the creature, he would sneak into my subconscious, and seek me out. Only just
prior to his pouncing upon me, would I awaken, covered in sweat, fighting for every deep breath.
That...was at first. Soon I remained in the dreams long enough to watch the creature brutally
dismember me, but then, his victims became more varied. Men, women, children it would hunt in
my head. And over time, it became those I knew. Those of this

The Immigration Of Illegal Immigrants
The United States has been worldly known for its characteristics of prosperity, opportunity, and
freedom which ultimately form the famous American dream, in which so many individuals desire.
While this country s reputation and culture was built on the basis of immigration, the ideals and
viewpoints of this topic have strayed far from welcoming over the years. Both the Democratic and
Republican parties find faults in the overflow of illegal immigrants coming into America, but differ
in their strategies of devising a solution to this issue. In short, Democrats believe in giving
immigrants the opportunity to enhance our nation by contributing to their communities and
workforces, offering them an education, and strengthening social values by keeping families
together instead of deporting them. Their main goal is to form a road to citizenship in which illegal
immigrants can make their lives here permanent as legal American citizens. On the other hand,
Republicans have a much stronger view on the necessary enforcements and restrictions that should
be placed upon the flow of illegal immigrants. They believe that there is a defined line between
legal immigrationand illegal immigration that is causing the immigration system to fall apart. Over
the years, immigration reform has been a common topic of debate, especially during presidential
campaigning, with the Republican Party holding steady views on controlling border security, illegal
immigrants already in the country, and the

To Kill A Mockingbird Moral Education Essay
Theodore Roosevelt once said, To educate a person in the mind, but not in morals is to educate a
menace to society. These words are very accurate and relatable to Harper Lee s fictional novel To
Kill a Mockingbird. Throughout the story, Lee develops the theme of morality strong morals versus
poor, and how it impacts not only the children but the town of Maycomb, Alabama. She illustrates
the idea that our actions are not self sufficient, but rather they depend on what we have been taught
what is morally right or wrong. With that in mind, a strong moral education cannot be built without
a strong foundation. One day on their way to town, Jem and Scout Finch ran into Mrs. Dubose,
their old neighbor down the street. It had become routine to hear her vulgar comments and constant
ridicule about their father defending a nigger but on this day. Jem had decided enough was enough
and chooses to overlook the promise he had made with Atticus about being a gentleman (136). He
then retaliates by ruining her precious camellias. In spite of defending Atticus s name, Atticus was
not proud, nor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for many of Lee s characters, it can be said otherwise. One of them are the Ewells, the Ewells
were described as, the disgrace of Maycomb and that none of them had done an honest day s
work (30). This may have been the result from the root of the home, Bob Ewell. Bob is a man
[who] spends his relief checks on green whiskey, [while] his children [are] crying from hunger
pains. (41). These details of the relief checks and hunger pains conveys the idea that the Ewells
do not have a stable home, especially since the head of the home is a drunk who chooses to
overrule his children s necessities to satisfy his own selfish desires. In doing so, Lee uses Bob to
explain to the readers why the Ewells are seen as such a disgrace. How could his children possibly
learn right from wrong when their own father

Kritios Boy Essay
Created sometime around 480 BCE, the marble sculpture Kritios Boy is a significant piece of
ancient Greek art. Although it was recovered in a mutilated state over one thousand years after
its creation, the sculpture still manages to showcase detail of the human body in a more
naturalized form than the similar pieces of art that had came before. This piece of artwork was
created at a very busy time in Greek history. Greece was in the midst of a war with Persia, and
Athens was a pre Socratic society that was nearing the height of interest in philosophy. With that
came the quest to identify mankind s natural identity. The results of this quest was displayed in
many pieces of artwork. Kritios Boy was sculpted in the figure of a human male, and was quite
distinct from similar pieces of artwork of earlier Greek and Egyptian history. Kouros, from only
forty five years prior to Kritios Boy, was much more closely related to the heavily idealized
Egyptian sculptures like the Triad of Mycerinas. Those earlier sculptures were similar in that...

Most noticeably in the way that the statue is standing. Rather than standing in the rigid stance of
the Kouros and others before, the figure is demonstrating a contrapposto stance, a more natural
and common way of standing that places the body s weight on one side of the body, with the left
leg standing straight, and the right one bent and relaxed. Looking up through the torso, one will
see that the hips are not aligned, contributing to the more relaxed and natural stance. This
showcases the progress made in the quest to represent the natural body, as it is a very common
way for humans to stand. Other features, such as proportion and muscle definition, place Kritios
more towards the natural side of the styleized naturalized spectrum. Unlike the Kouros of 600
BCE, the Kritios s head and torso correspond well with the rest of the body, and muscle and bone
structure appear more

Essay Jewish Resistance to the Nzi Holocaust
Despite all of these internal and external factors contributing to a lack of Jewish resistance to the
Holocaust, there was resistance in existence in many forms; the resistance that did occur must not
be diminished or overlooked. When considering the definition of resistance , historians divide
themselves on what this entails; some believe it to be only active, armed resistance attempts, while
others define it more liberally. According to Yehuda Bauer, resistance entails any group action
consciously taken in opposition to known or surmised laws, actions, or intentions directed against
the Jews by the Germans and their supporters. Considering resistance with a broad definition such
as this ensures that the efforts made at resistance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This symbolic form of resistance is placed within Bauer s definition of resistance in that it
entailed group demonstrations and protests actively opposed to the Nazi regime. Non violent
resistance began to evolve as the Jews were transported to the concentration camps. Upon their
initial arrival in the concentration camps, inmates attempted to aid each other in various ways,
such as by giving those that were extremely malnourished extra food or attempting to lessen the
workload on those that were weaker by taking their place; these acts, although not aimed directly
against the SS, were simply keeping one another alive. These acts can be considered under
Bauer s definition of resistance in that the groups motives in sustaining themselves as a whole
was in direct opposition to the central idea of the SS to break down and destroy the Jewish
population. These acts also helped lead to the later active, armed resistance in that they helped to
keep inmates alive and maintain their strength, as well as providing them with a will to resist. As
the Jews became aware of their imminent extinction, resistance continued to evolve, taking a more
direct form in instances of escape and sabotage. There were instances of Jewish escape from
concentration camps; two Jewish prisoners successfully escaped from Dachau in 1933 and later
publicized what was occurring in the camp. However, instances of escape were

Essay On I Am Legend By Richard Matheson
In I am Legend, Richard Matheson depicted Robert Neville as another man in another life before
the plague broke out. He was a father and a husband. Your average joe working a blue collar job
in the 1950 s, facts of life that change for him once the plague took hold of humanity. He created a
safe guarded sanctuary for himself within his own home fortified by garlic and crosses from the
vampires who dominated the fallen world outside. Solitude was his only companion. Society
provided Neville with support, structure, morals, and a community. With the fall of society, Neville
priorities had changed. He had changed. Whilst the novel appears to focus heavily on alienation,
Matheson perhaps also meant to depict another underlying plot theme. The... Show more content on

When Ruth questions him as to why he kill, he responds with: Only to to survive. (Matheson

created by culture, of a hero. Due to Neville s perspective, people want to identify with heroes like
Neville and oppose villains like the vampires or the Soviet Union. Cohen argued, monsters have the
ability to illuminate the secrets of the era. Monsters may have the ability to shed light on secrets of
the era. Throughout many instances in history, both sides of war believe they are right. Both sides
ultimately demonize one another. However, history is ultimately written by its victor, as one side
will eventually win. Only one will go on to tell the story to the world. The plague had devastated
the human population and the vampires overrun the world now. Robert Neville, being on the
other side of this war, had lost. As the by product of this new world, he challenged the vampires
views. In Cohen s first thesis, the monsters are said to be born out of a particular time, a feeling,
and a place and exist as pure culture . The monsters, being a product of its time, represent the
views of the people of that era, but they can also challenge the public s view. Robert was their
monster. He served to reinterpret parts of this new society. The monsters and the views they
represent linger in the mind of their creators and

Apple Inc. Essay
Apple Inc.
I am going to start off by going into a little bit of history about apple and how it has grown over
the past 10 years or so, I am also going to talk about some new products from Apple such as Apple
TV and the iphone, as well as the name change, and the new direction they have chosen to take with
their marketing and what it has helped them accomplish over the past couple of years.
Apple Inc. has come a long way from what it used to be. The computer market has always been a
PC based system being mainly pushed by the Microsoft software platform. Apple Computers has
been struggling to make it in the computer market for a long time, going up against their competitor
Microsoft who had a monopoly on the market. Microsoft had such ... Show more content on

This was just the start for Apple s new ideas and goals to penetrate the consumer market.
All throughout the early 21st century the iPod has been the sought after mp3 product. Everybody
had to have one, and if you did, you were pretty cool. In 2004 Apple joined up with U2 to help
promote their new 20 gig ipod release. This was a great example of apple s new marketing plan,
going for the entertainment and media side of the market.
Another side of Apple that really made the music industry happy was then they started to sell songs
on itunes for $1 a song. Music Pirating was a huge issue throughout the early 21st century and
Apple was on the for front of helping fix that. In 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone and Apple TV,
two revolutionary products that is changing Television as well as the cell phone market as we know
it.
Apple TV is setting a new standard for the viewing of media, it gives the consumer the capability
to wirelessly connect their computer to their television to stream virtually any video, song or
website on the internet through their TV. This is the new are of wave of media technology
allowing people to watch whatever they want whenever they want without any regular scheduled
programming. This is also a major bonus for television marketers since they are able to tell exactly
how many views each show or video is being watched.
Onto the iPhone. When the iphone hit the market it was a must have item. Everybody wanted one!

Comparision of Genesis with Other Creation Mythologies Essay
Comparison of Genesis with Other Creation Mythologies
We all know that our mothers and fathers gave us birth, and grandmothers and grandfathers gave
our parents birth. However, what about the beginning? What does the beginning look like? Who
created the sky, the earth, the mountains and rivers, the plants, the animals, and the human
beings? How was the world created? What happened to the creator? These questions have
puzzled and are asked by every people. However, no one has yet found the answers, and I have
heard people saying that the creation of life is as impossible as the natural creation of an airplane
from a stack of waste. With the willingness of knowing the self, ancient people tried to create

The only difference is that in this Indian story, not even God(or an equivalent form) was there.
Egyptians and Chinese imagined the same scene, the Nun and the chaotic egg with a giant
(Egyptian, Lin 1). In contrast with the creation out of nothing, the indigenous Australian mythology
tells us that the stars, the sky, the sun, the moon, and the ancestors of all lives were already present
in the beginning, but they are sleeping under the crust of the earth in the water holes (Aborigine).
Seneca people believed that humans were living in the heaven originally, and there were only
ocean and ocean living lives on the earth (Creation). It is very interesting to recognize how
important water is to lives. Every account of creation that I have read included water before
anything else was present.
Whatever was present in the beginning had managed to create all the rest, and the description of
creators are of three categories, a single creator, multi creators, and no creator. In Genesis, God is
the single creator, and so is Brahman of India. The difference is that the God is immortal, but
Brahman is mortal (Genesis, Genesis Project). In Chinese mythology, Pan Gu was the creator of
everything but men, who were created by Nu Wa, a goddess (Lin 1 5). Other examples of multi
creators are in the mythology of Egypt and Seneca in which the children of the creator became

Visions usually require changing people s values. What desired changes in values are
highlighted by this case study? I feel the change of moving forward, from old to new, is

needed. 4.How well did Nick Gibbons articulate his vision for the paper? If you were in Nick s
shoes, how would you articulate your vision in this case? I feel Nick articulated his vision very
well because 80% of the positions were filled with former employees. Nick knew there would be
those who would not let go of the past and he spoke strongly by saying, If you can t let go of the
past...you can t move forward (as cited in Introduction to Leadership, 2015, p. 63). Nick knows
the only way for the digital paper to be successful is to let go of the past and build the future of
new reporting online. If I were in Nick s place I feel I would articulate how this change is an
adventure and that those who move forward with the company are pioneers. I would encourage
the employees to build upon this vision because it is a new adventure for all involved. 5.Do you

With the growth of online retailing, the demand for Aramex services has also increased
significantly. Here we can see the economic concept of demand for complements. Complements
are basically goods which are jointly used to satisfy wants. They have negative cross elasticity
which means that a change in demand for one good causes a similar change in demand of the
complement good. In this article it can be seen that online retailing and the services provided by
Aramex are complements. The increase in demand for online retailing has led to an increased
demand for Aramex services thus leading to increased profit growth reported by Aramex. The
graphs above also depicts the same showing a rightward shift in the demand curve of both online
retailing and Aramex services. The growth in online retailing has not only led to growth in
Aramex, it has also led to overall growth in the economy. This is because it prompts people to

Abstract
Fecal transplants have been around for many years; however up until recently it had not been
widely used or accepted as a feasible course of treatment for gastrointestinal complications. Since
approval by the U.S Food and Drug administration in 2013, the method is being thoroughly
researched and tested to entice its use for Clostridium difficile infections. Clostridium difficile is
extremely prevalent in the community and more over in healthcare facilities. The current
treatments that are being used are quiet successful at treating Clostridium difficile, but the
incidence of reoccurrence is fairly high. Fecal microbiota transplants have shown to have a very
high success rate, and a very low reoccurrence rate. There are several ways of performing the

  • 2. Malnutrition Informative Speech Cassidy Burkholder Informative Paper English Comp. 1 Mr. Broadfoot 20th of November 2012 Malnutrition Around the World For most us Americans, knowing when we re going to eat next is something we very rarely think of, and when we do think about being hungry we still know where our food is coming from. Three big meals a day, and a few snacks in between, is how most of us live. It s hard for us to imagine what its like for those who go days eating very little or nothing at all. But unfortunately that s how it is for most of the world and surprisingly it happens in the United Sates as well. There are many reasons malnutrition can happen, and it happens to every age group. Even though there are many ways to treat it, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ten states who felt it the most were Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, South Carolina, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Arizona. (Haerens 36) While there are malnourished people in America, it is much worse all around the world, mostly in third world countries. There are three predominate reasons why third world countries are hit hard with malnutrition, 1) poor families aren t given government help, 2) difficulties with economy and 3) higher food prices. ( 2012 World Hunger... ) As stated in the website 2012 World Hunger and Poverty Facts and Statistics, in the world there are 925 million hungry people, most of them in Asia, the Pacific and Africa. These people live on $1.25 or less a day. Minimum wage is $7.25 in the U.S., and most people work 8 hours a day, so that means they would be getting fifty eight dollars a day. It would take someone in a third world country about forty seven days to make what someone makes in America in 8 hours. And most of them spend that money on food and medical needs, but $1.25 is not enough. In the United States if a family doesn t have enough money for medical help, they can still go see a doctor, but in other countries it s very different. More than 30,000 children die per year from preventable sickness because they can t go see a doctor. And as for food, Americans have access to food every hour of the day. The wealthiest 5th of the world consumes 86% of all goods, as stated in Child Welfare League of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the most common cybersecurity technologies that exist today include: Intrusion detection systems, Intrusion prevention systems, Encryption, and Firewalls for network protection, as well as, biometric measures like fingerprint scans for access control. These technologies offer a baseline of security protection against the most common threats. Intrusion detection and prevention systems monitor traffic/ logs either on the individual host or on the network in real time looking for signatures of common attacks or anomalies that will trigger an alarm either of an attack in motion or an attack that has already occurred. Firewalls monitor network traffic in real time and either allows or denies certain traffic into or out of the network based on the type of firewall and the rules they are programmed to follow. Firewalls are a very important baseline in system infrastructure and design. Encryption is one of the most important technologies of cybersecurity designed to protect the confidentiality of data. Encryption uses a complex mathematical formula and a key which randomizes and creates a coded or encrypted message. Only the party that the message or data is originally intended for can read in plain text by using the appropriate key to decrypt the data. • 4. The Moral Issue Of Vivisection Paige Simone English Research Skills Atrocities are not less atrocities when they occur in laboratories and are called medical research. ~George Bernard Shaw (1856 1950) Introduction The everyday products we use such as toothpaste, makeup, and medicines have more than likely been tested on an animal in a laboratory before being available for human consumption. These animals suffer greatly and live lives of isolation and torture. They endure cruel treatment all in the name of scientific research. Many people believe that these tests are necessary to discover cures for human illnesses. This is simply not the case. There is a large amount of research that indicates that animal experiments often lacks validity and do not stand up when transferred to human beings. In addition, the moral issue of vivisection is one that we must all struggle with as human beings. Mohandas Gandhi said I abhor vivisection with my whole soul. All the scientific discoveries stained with innocent blood I count as of no consequence. and To my mind the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being. I should be unwilling to take the life of a lamb for the sake of the human body. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to the protection by man from the cruelty of man. Scientists and all human beings alike have an obligation to develop alternative methods of testing drugs and products that do not harm animals. Paige Simone English Research Skills ... The NCAA states, The most recent estimate from the NCAA research staff is that college athletics programs annually generate about $6.1 billion from ticket sales, radio and television receipts, alumni contributions, guarantees, royalties and NCAA distributions. Another $5.3 billion is considered allocated revenue, which comes from student fees allocated to athletics... (NCAA 1). This reveals the insane amount of revenue that the NCAA brings in. None of this money is seen by the source of it. With this kind of revenue, paying the student athletes just a small cut of it would not hurt a nonprofit organization... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But college athletes do not get a royalty or any sort of payment for being in an NCAA sponsored video game. College athletes included in a video game are currently not being paid. The entire college sports organization seems like they want to avoid athletes making profits in any way, shape or form. Overall, athletes should be paid because their performance and their title are the source of all the NCAA s revenue. At the same time, these athletes are gold mines; they are living something far from an ordinary student life. People have the perception of college athletes living the dream of playing their sport in school, and returning home to a comfortable lifestyle. The actual reality has been swept under the rug. For instance, Jason Perry, a Track and Field athlete from the Universityof North Carolina, explains, College athletes are known to encounter unique stress factors that the general student population does not always face. Because of this, student athletes can be at a higher risk of anxiety and depression (Perry 1). The unique stress factors that Jason is pertaining to are: money troubles, physical and mental issues, high levels of stress, and balancing being a student and an athlete. Comparatively, these kinds of struggles are similar to ones of someone who works a job. However, an athlete, unlike a worker, is not awarded a pay for their efforts and accomplishments. • 6. United States Political Thought Today Is Considered A... United States political thought today is considered a democracy. A democracy is where the citizens of the United States are eligible to vote for the leaders that represent their country. Without the drafting of the British documents, such as The Magna Carta and the Petition of Rights along with the political upheaval of the Glorious Revolution and Enlightenment, America today would be following the traditional acts of arbitrary monarchical rule. All of these specific times in history were outcomes of people seeing that absolute monarchies were troubling for the fundamental rights of the people. Being under an absolute monarchy is similar to being under a dictatorship which leaves no say in the hand of the people. The Magna Carta, also known as The Great Charter, was the catalyst for creating a representative democracy. The King of England, King John was forced by his barons to sign the charter to establish that the monarch was no longer absolute and that the people were guaranteed a trial by jury and due process of law. King John is considered to be one of the worst kings in history. He was not in favor of the people, he was in favor of himself. Being an avaricious king, he would penalize any baron who went against his wishes. In 1206, King John lost some land that he was insistent on getting back. Normandy, Anjou, Maine and parts of Poitou were no longer under his control. In attempt to retrieve his land he imposed heavy taxes upon his citizens. If the people decided not ... It was and still is a moment that I look back on and reminisce. I used to work for a private company at Tinian Dynasty Hotel Casino as a Casino Dealer, and that memorable moment happened when I played basketballwith my casino team. I have played basketball tournaments in high school and in government leagues, however, none of them compares when I played in Tinian Dynasty s Inter Department Basketball Tournament. As I watch the ball drop to the bottom of the net, that is when I heard the sound of the horn go off. The final seconds of the game has ended, and our team and fans went jumping up and down, yelling and screaming in celebration and joy. It was then we were declared the victors. The final score of the game was 106 105. It was an unbelievable basketball game I ever played. The feeling was like playing in the NBA. Everyone else as well who witnessed the night of our comeback victory were amazed. • 8. The Fundamental Economic Principles Part 1 Scarcity When humans moved from hunter/gatherer societies to villages and then cities, a division of labor occurred. Some people became producers of food, some processors, some the ancillary goods and services that are necessary for humans to live together. They found that sometimes there was a surplus of goods, and sometimes a lack of goods. This lack of goods is called the scarcity principle, and it is the fundamental economic principle of needing (or wanting) goods in a world that has limited resources. It means that in society, there will almost always be situations in which there are insufficient resources to fulfill all human wants and needs. Of course this also implies that at any given time, not all individual or group goals can be provided, which results in tradeoffs and substitutions. If we think about scarcity as a principle, then the idea of having scarce resources becomes a fundamental principle of what we call economics really the science of the relationship between production, goods and services, and the amounts we have of each. In any given group (society) there are needs for resources. Resources are the way we make products or turn raw products into something useful (agriculture). Resources might be land, raw materials like ores, etc. Then human resources are necessary to turn these raw recourses into something useful; metal, flour from grain, wine or beer from grain as well, meat prepared for human consumption, etc. Often these particular ... • 10. Medical Insurance and Different Types of Coverage Essay Are you aware that many Americans do not have medical insurance coverage? The recent passing of the Affordable Care Act, mandates that Americans must have an insurance policy that provides minimum essential coverage. Because of this, many Americans have been looking into different types of healthcare coverage. Insurancecompanies can tailor a customer s health insuranceplan so that it meets their specific health needs, and budget. Good coverage, however, does not come cheap. The customer will typically get what they pay for. Many different types of healthcare insurance offer different types of coverage, such as premium cost, prescription costs, and co pays for emergency visits. PREMIUM COSTS When a person choses a health insurance plan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The average cost of health insurance in the United States is approximately $411 per month for individual coverage and approximately $1155 per month for family coverage ( How Much Is Average Health Insurance per Month? , n.d.). As you can see, monthly premium costs can also become expensive. Premium costs are not the cost associated with health insurance. Healthcare coverage commonly has other annual costs. The most common annual cost is called an annual deductible. It works in the same manner as a deductible for damages to an automobile. Deductibles are paid in addition to the premium cost. You pay the premium cost to keep your insurance coverage, but when you use health care services, you must pay your deductible before your health insurance begins to pay. The average deductible was $2,086 for a single person and just over $4,000 for a family (Fuquay, 2013). The costs seem to be piling up, but there is good news: not all health plans have a deductible. On average, if you pay a higher premium, there tends to be little or no deductible. And on the other hand, low premium plans usually have a high deductible. Cost for health insurance coverage can become very expensive when you calculate premium costs and deductibles together. PRESCRIPTION COSTS There are usually some types of cost that a person must pay when they need prescriptions. These costs can change depending on what pharmacy they get the prescriptions filled at. The Unnecessary Decline of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire Upon reviewing the drama, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, it would appear that the character of Blanche DuBois is worthy of closer inspection. With her previous occupation as a teacher of American literature and her former social status being that of a well bred woman of the very traditional Old South, Blanche could be any human being transferring from one culture to another with customs far different from the ones being left behind. Even today it could happen that someone is suddenly confronted with a totally new and different value system with which he must learn to cope in order to be accepted into his new environment. That is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blanche depends on manner, on affected little girl innocence, to sustain her (Hirsch 33). That is quite evident at the very beginning of the play when she seems to be disgusted by the way her sister lives with her husband. However, Blanche s evasive explanation of her early arrival, before the end of the spring term at the school in Laurel, is a clear indication that something went wrong with Blanche. In her first meeting with Stanley it becomes quite clear that Stanley and Blanche are antagonist and protagonist. Twice in scene 1, a cat screeches near the window, startling Blanche and now summoning up a cat and mouse image for the relationship between Stanley and Blanche (Londre 47). In the second scene, the audience witnesses Blanche s obsessive bathing, just to quiet my nerves (Williams 39) as she told her sister Stella, but it is a nominal gesture of guilt and wished for redemption (Bloom 16). In a single moment of deviation from her mood of gaiety in this scene, Blanche withholds a faded, ribbon tied sheaf of love letters: Poems a dead boy wrote. I hurt him that way you would like to hurt me ... (Williams 41). That shows her feeling of guilt about the death of her husband. In the same scene Stanley reveals to Blanche that he is going to check her papers from Belle Reve, inheritance having taken on added importance as Stella has taken on added girth with her pregnancy. Adapting to the operational environment is a necessity for the force called upon to prosecute its adversaries. The Army must do what is necessary to protect the U.S. against all enemies, and advance the national interests of the American people. To accomplish this, anticipation of threats is crucial and victory against its adversaries is an imperative. The nation relies on the military for strategic level deterrence and expects that it will be decisive in combat operations. For the military to be successful, it is important that transformation adapt to meet these expectations by conforming to the requirements of a successful force of the future in order meet any new threats in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor caused the U.S. Navy to transform doctrine as well. Not every example of transformation works in every situation. The German Blitzkrieg worked in France, where the distance from their lines of support were short. Conversely, this speed driven technique did not work in Russia where time and distance became an adversary for the Germans. During the interwar years, many European countries invested much into transforming their militaries following lessons learned from World WarI. France is a prime example of a country that invested into lessons from the previous war rather than developing a vision for potential future events by spending billions of dollars increasing its Artillery and on building the Maginot line. As history demonstrates, this investment would probably have worked fine during the previous war but did not stop an attack by a German enemy that did transform for the future fight. Why a Transformation Though the concept of war has changed little through time, its conduct varies depending upon many factors, which include but are not limited to demographics, political issues, and technology. To be successful in combat, an Army must envision and adapt to these concerns. The dilemma, however, to transformation can be the high cost of training, developing, and implementing the change. • 14. Control In Ernest Gaines s A Lesson Before Dying Control and its effect on entities based on observations of ENG3UT For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction Newton s third law. This law is just as accurate for human interactions; for every content dominant man, there is a sad submissive man. The symbolism used by Ernest Gaines, Henrik Ibsen, Ambrose Flack, and Isaac Asimov is used to show how control over others, leads to sadness for the inferior person in the relationship. These corrupt relationships are shown in A Lesson before Dying using the symbols, the broken books of the black children, the electric chair and Pichot s kitchen, which help illustrate how groups in control, the whites, will hurt subservient groups, the blacks. Nora s pet names, the children s maid, and Krogstad s letters are symbols found in Doll s House and help show how one person who has control over another is detrimental for the controled party. Finally, in the short stories, The Stranger That Came To Town and The Fun They Had , symbols such as the soap bar that killed the fish, the amputations of the Duvitch family and the slot used on the robot teacher, help show how a dominant society harms individual in the minority. In the book, A Lesson Before Dying, Ernest Gaines uses symbols to show how a dominant group can oppress a minority group; whites control and harm blacks. One symbol he uses to express this relationship is the broken textbooks of the black children. These books represent the dominance the white have over the black educations, when the Teacher, Wiggins, tries to get better books, Many of the books I have to use are hand me downs from the white schools, Dr. Joseph, [...] and they have missing pages. How can I , the white inspector, Dr Joseph, quickly shuts him down, Are you questioning me, Higgins? No, sir, Dr. Joseph. (Gaines 57) Wiggins does not have any control in this situation, as shown with his submissiveness and Dr Joseph lack of care for his name. Due to this lack of control, he cannot get better books. These books symbolise how the whites are treating the black community, as lower and second class, they are only worthy of used and broken items from the whites. Comparison Between Macbeth And Wuthering Heights A Deeper look into Macbeth and Wuthering Heights Shakespeare s Macbeth and Bronte s Wuthering Heights prove that men and women are crazy when dealing with love. People get pushed to their breaking points by loved ones and never question it. This is because they are blinded by the four letter word that is capable of ruining someone s life. When you add greed and power into this malicious equation, it becomes even more cruel. These two bodies of work prove that the men were more affected than the women. The men, Macbeth and Heathcliff were manipulated by their women and the things going on around them. So how do women really get control of the relationship? In the beginning, it is known that Lady Macbeth just lost her infant. Macbeth is away but soon returns. They both are going through a stage of grief but express it in two totally different ways. Lady Macbeth was upset and it is clear. Usually when families lose a loved one the parents turn against one another. But not these two, they are a bit strange. Macbeth considers killing King Duncan so that he can soon take his place as king but this thought was quickly dismissed. Lady Macbeth on the other hand wanted this thought to become a reality. When companies own farmland for production, the farmers who grow the goods do not have a voice in the company s decisions and the way the goods produced are treated. Farmers who own their land have the voice to demand the way their goods sell and the choice to provide for the family. The farmers who grow the goods for the companies no longer have the relationship with the land and the produce, because the company who owns the farm has total control over the production process. In this written report I shall be critically discussing the current and future structure of the music industry in the United Kingdom. The current structure can be laid out in the following manner: Source: (Dustry, 2015) PART 1 Labels, publishers and the Live Sector. Labels Firstly the focus of this report will be on the roles and the position of music labels. There are two types of music label; a major label and an indie (independent label). A music label is a separate entity which will supply an agreement between the artist and the label for a certain number of tracks to be recorded, manufactured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following on further from this, the label then pays the artist royalties from sales. In more recent times, both indie and major labels are including what is known as Ancillary Rights . Essentially, this is a clause that labels add into a contract that states that they receive a cut of artist s earnings which aren t directly related to the recording and release process. For example, should the artist sell out and perform a huge capacity venue, the label would then expect a percentage of that live income. Writing about indie labels in The Music Industry handbook , Rutter states Historically, many indies have grown to become larger corporate structures, whereby their artists have become successful through healthy consumer interest. Major music companies also work with successful independents to upscale their operations; the major s powerful promotion and distributions mechanisms facilitate greater product exposure for a percentage of the proceedings (Rutter, 2011) Publishers Publishers, or the act of publishing, entails an organisations acquirement of the copyrights to an artist s material. We can look at the role of a publisher for both a songwriter, a performer, and an artist who both writes their music and goes out to perform. Publishers will dedicate time, money, energy and passion into an artist s career and help them to develop their songs into the industry. Once a writer has completed a piece of music, there are ... Despite its age, the jug is remarkably whole, missing only a small fragment on its rim. In order to view all its designs, viewers would have to observe the jug from multiple angles. This essay will analyse how the artist used lines, shape, and colour to explore the dichotomy of containment and stasis in contrast to energy and movement. The jug has a limited but warm colour palette of mostly brown and white, which imbues it with a dignified and understated elegance. Despite its restrained earthy colours that suggest stability, the use of spirals and kinaesthetic imagery evokes the ideas of energy and movement. Upon closer observation, viewers notice that the lustre of the jug has cracked in several places and acquired different hues in other spots, probably due to age. Such subtle changes in colour, in addition to its glossy surface, slightly dramatize the muted main colours of the jug. It tracks the spatial average of the sensor measurements in a region. Since it is highly vulnerable to sensor faults and measurement noise the average operation is not robust. In this paper the proposed computational efficient method is used to compute a weight average of sensor measurement. It takes consideration of sensor faults and sensor noise. WSN uses random projections of sensor to compress data and send the compressed data to the data fusion center. The computation efficient method uses the data fusion center for direct work with the compressed data stream. The fusion center performed decompression at the time of computed weighted average. Thus, it reduces the computational requirements. Hence the proposed method gives better accuracy and more efficient for the WSN. Though not the only one, Parris is a major offender of letting his image and his reputation cloud his judgement and even get in the way of his duties as a father. The piece later states, When the play first begins, Parris fears that Abigail, his niece, is convicted of being a witch because of her intolerable actions, and the witchcraft that associates with his daughter s coma will cause much chaos and bring down his power as a Reverend in Salem. On page 68, Crooks responded to Lennie s sudden entrance, You go on get outta my room. I ain t wanted in the bunkhouse, and you ain t wanted in my room. Earlier chapters describe how he was not allowed to sleep in the bunkhouse with everyone else and had to be separated in a room by himself. Moreover, it is a rare occasion does people ever visit him, on the exception for Slim. The obvious interpretation would be the connection it holds to the racism that existed at the time, but I perceived a deeper connection behind his response. Although Crooks is a diligent and hardworking stable buck, he experiences loneliness from unequal treatment by others. Thus, his impetuous response to Lennie came from the hardships he went through for being the only African American on the ranch. To some extent, people s comments and actions reflect ... There are many types of teams, work teams, school teams, sports teams, families etc. The fact remains that teams, because they are made up of imperfect human beings, are inherently dysfunctional ( Lencioni, 2002). While this country s reputation and culture was built on the basis of immigration, the ideals and viewpoints of this topic have strayed far from welcoming over the years. Both the Democratic and Republican parties find faults in the overflow of illegal immigrants coming into America, but differ in their strategies of devising a solution to this issue. In short, Democrats believe in giving immigrants the opportunity to enhance our nation by contributing to their communities and workforces, offering them an education, and strengthening social values by keeping families together instead of deporting them. Their main goal is to form a road to citizenship in which illegal immigrants can make their lives here permanent as legal American citizens.
