Situation Analysis-Peace Memorial Hospital Essay
Situation Analysis Peace Memorial Hospital
Peace Memorial Hospital is a 600 bed, independent, not for profit, general hospital located on the
southern periphery of a major western city. It is one of six general hospitals in the city and twenty
in the county. After doing much research, the Board of Directors has decided that they should open
an ambulatory location in the downtown area, to be known as the Downtown Health Clinic (DHC).
The clinic will have 4 major objectives: 1. To expand the hospitals referral base, 2. To increase
referrals of privately insured patients, 3. To establish a liaison with the business community by
addressing employers specific health needs, and 4. To become self supporting three years after

Why The Mass Extinction Of Dinosaurs
65 million years ago, dinosaurs ruled the planet. These fascinating animals were the largest,
strongest creatures to ever walk the face of the earth, yet, they met a fate that would change the
world forever. All that is left are the fossilized remains of these captivating creatures. Their fossils,
along with the layers of our Earths rock and sediment, tell a story of how they lived and how they
died. However, there is still an ongoing debate in the world of science of exactly what catastrophe
caused these magnificent animals to take their last breathes and never reappear again. Was it a
gigantic meteor or asteroid of some type or was it mass volcanos erupting all over the Earth?

of what caused the disappearance of the dinosaurs, the mass extinction at the end of the

The Characteristics Of Ed Gein And The Leatherface
In 1974, director Tobe Hooper revolutionized horror with his film inspired by a true story, THE
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Almost immediately after the film s release, rumors began
to circulate that there was an actual chainsaw wielding madman living with his deranged family
in the town of Poth, Texas. The inspired events were also said to have taken place on August
18th, 1973. However, a quick check of that date reveals that the film had just wrapped four days
prior, making it fairly difficult to base a film on an actual event that had yet to occur. Despite this,
there was an actual skin wearing maniac that was the film s inspiration.
He may not have had a chainsaw, but serial killer Ed Gein was a key inspiration for the infamous
Leatherface. Born in 1906 in Plainfield, Wisconsin, Ed Gein lived most of his life as a reclusive
loner. Born to an alcoholic father, George, and a fanatically religious mother, Augusta, Ed Gein
suffered heavy psychological and physical abuse at the hands of his parents. Classmates remember
Ed as being reclusive with strange habits. One of his most unnerving habits was to randomly laugh
out loud as though someone had told a joke that only he could hear.

Before Starting Law School
Before starting law school, you will likely have an entire summer off. That means you will have
2 3 months (or more) to kind of sit around before you start coursework. What should you do? You
have a lot of options. This article will outline a few, but remember that you have many, many
options, none of which include relaxing or doing nothing. Option 1: Study. Your first option is
probably the option you least want to actually do. Studying does not mean buy your law school
books early and crack them open to look at them. Studying, here, means that you should be
reading about the basics of the law. It is advantageous to become familiar with the United States
legal system at the least. Study the United States Constitution (you will take Con Law your 1L
year), study the basics of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC for short, contract law course),
and check out some of the foundational cases in US legal history (a simple google search will
reveal Marbury v. Madison, Pierson v. Post, and others). At the end of the summer, feel free to
open some of your law school texts and start trying to identify the holding and rationale of the cases.

Taking a Look at Myasthenia Gravis
People go to doctors offices with a lot of different conditions everyday. A lot of those conditions
happen to share the same symptoms which could make it hard to determine what is truly wrong
with a patient without a diagnosis. A diagnosis is a methodical evaluation of symptoms and
complaints through interview, observation, testing instruments and/or procedures taken to
determine if an illness is present (1). It is important that a person be diagnosed thoroughly and
properly so that they can receive the right treatment (if available) to make the patient better. A
patient with symptoms like Susan s would need a full diagnosis to determine exactly what he/she
has, which is what her doctor did. Her doctor s diagnosis made it easy for us to determine whether
her illness is myasthenia gravisor myotonic muscular dystrophy. Here s how.
We learned through research that myasthenia gravis and myotonic muscular dystrophy are two
common forms of muscular disorders. Myasthenia gravis is a neuromuscular disorder that usually
occurs in the arms, head and chest (2). Its symptoms include limb weakness, drooping eyelids,
impaired vision, difficulty chewing and swallowing, slurred speech, difficulty breathing and
abnormality of the thymus gland (3). Myotonic muscular dystrophy is one of many forms of
muscular dystrophy that is characterized by muscle wasting and myotonia or the inability to relax
muscles (4). Its symptoms include, but are not limited to drooping eyelids, cataracts,

Professional Wrestling Persuasive Speech
Once in a while, professional wrestling produces memorable moments and matches remembered

embarrassing, and only become memorable for being disastrous. I am bringing the pain for the
third time; the matches below are so bad you will wish you could erase your memory. Can you
withstand the sheer power? Can you muster the strength to watch all three matches in their
entirety? Perhaps, in doing so, you will appreciate the average Smackdown match a little more?

So the match was the latest match to be rated 5 stars by the observer. Villano III entered with
Villano IV and V for his retirement match, while the Psycho clowns are known for their lengthy
stints as six man tag champs. It s immediately apparent why it s rated so low. There s no
structure, no rules being enforced, two referees stood around, Los Villanos taking it in turns to
deliver sloppy, slow offense. You can see the clowns waiting around outside to have their turn.
The best spot of the match was the double suicide dive by the clowns. The clowns, despite them
looking like heels, didn t want to play the heels. The most cringing parts is one of the clowns
using a yellow rag of some kind (even if anyone was to be DQ d, it did zero damage), deciding to
pick up a chair only to show respect to Villano III and not use it, and the aborted pin fall on
Villano III as the clown didn t want to pin him specificially. So after asking for one of the other
Villanos, the third Villano comes in and is immediately held back by both referees for no reason.
The other Villano delivered a low blow, and the second referee (who stood around doing nothing),
suddenly decided to turn around , and count the pin. This is lucha libre at its worst! *The video

Evaluation Of A Likert Patient Preference Questionnaire Essay
As a result of the activities performed above, the following products were produced. Staff
established a Likert patient preference questionnaire (See Fig. 3 in Appendix). Also, each Likert
item was scaled. Barriers to testing were identified to include on the Likert questionnaire.
Dependent variables identified are patient preference before and after the procedure (de
Wijkerslooth et al., 2010; Lin et al., 2012); pain level, recovery monitoring, burden, differences
in procedural time and recovery time (Boellard, van der Paardt, Eberl, Hollmann, Stoker, 2011).
Independent variables included age, sex, ethnicity, region/center (Boellard et al., 2011). The
study would involve four groups: Group 1: Preference OC list with the willingness to undergo
CTC (1875 subjects); Group 2: Preference OC list not willing to undergo CTC (1875 subjects);
Group 3: Preference CTC list with the willingness to undergo OC (1875 subjects); Group 4:
Preference CTC list not willing to undergo OC (1875 subjects). Finally, a comprehensive report
and images of the intestines and surround organs were devised for CT colonography and
colonoscopy. By assessing pre Likert questionnaires, the staff could provide the necessary
environment to make patients feel comfortable. By evaluating the post Likert questionnaires, staff
will be able to cater to the patient s needs better because they can truly see which screening
procedure the patient is most comfortable with. To evaluate specific Likert items, the

What Is The Theme Of Mental Cases By Wilfred Owen
Wilfred Owen s Mental Cases offers a rather distinct characterization of World War I soldiers after
their participation in the battle. While they are usually portrayed as the brave, handsome and
trained heroes of a nation, in this poem the reader confronts the reality of the soldiers atrocious
mental state as they returned home filled with terror and nightmares of the battlefield. The poet s
main objective of presenting the characterization that will be further explained is to shockthe reader
with the graphic and brutal scenes the soldiers had to experience during combat and expose the
physical and mental consequences of war, highlighting the destruction and terror it brought to
humanity. As to the why of this purpose, Owen, having experience... Show more content on

However, the phrase back into their brain refers once again to the memories coming back and
tormenting the abandoned men, as well as the affirmation that dawn bleeds afresh, showing that
the soldiers are not able to heal and no matter how much time passes, they still remember the
scenes of war freshly. In addition to this, the onomatopoeias used in the last four verses: plucking,
picking, snatching and pawing, construct an image of the men crawling helplessly and grasping
desperately with their animalistic claws at a society that has turned their backs to them. This
connects back to Owen s purpose of getting society s attention and comprehension of the mentally
injured men so they can help them. In this same stanza, a visual imagery that goes back to the idea
of the living death of the first stanza is introduced with the words set smiling corpses. Corpses
refers directly to the skeletal and abdominal figures described in the beginning, but with the addition
of the adjective set smiling , not only is an oxymoron built, but it also shows the taunting and
dismal stare of men that suffer from shell shock, reinforcing again the consequences of

Three Potential Recipients
It s time to make a complex decision. There is a heart available to transplant from a young
woman who has lost her life in a car accident at just 20 years of age. There are three patients
awaiting a transplant and they are a match with this newly available heart. Now who would be the
best candidate to receive this heart? With further evaluation of the three potential recipients we can
clearly distinguish who will be the patient who will be chosen. It is taken into consideration who
will benefit most from the heart transplant in the long run. In terms of both life expectancy and
quality of life to continue living a life of significance.
After evaluation of the three potential recipients who may receive the heart transplant, I believe
recipient number one will be the best candidate. Arthur is 49 years of age and is an individual

Essay Psychological Research Report on Perception
ABSTRACT
People are thought to be able to mentally rotate an object so as to be able to imagine it in a
different orientation. In this experiment partcipants were presented with two three dimensional
objects. Some of the pairs of objects where the same object and some of them where different
objects. Partcipants were asked to identify whether the second object was the same as the first one
in the pair, even though it was shown as being rotated around a set angle, or if it was a completely
different object. The reaction time of the partcipant s was found to be directly related to the degree
of the angle of which the object was rotated.
METHODS
Participants
A total of 11 subject participated in this experiment. These participants... Show more content on

The object was rotated to one of 8 possible degrees in increments of 45 degrees from 0 to 360.
The structure of the experiment was that the participant goes to the website and chooses the
experiment. Then the participant is asked to give informed consent and the experiment begins. The
participant is presented with a pair of shapes and asked to decide whether the shapes are of the
same or different images (whether one can be turned into the other by a rotation). The participant
clicks a button to specify whether the images are the same or different.
RESULTS
The results of this experiment are the mean reaction times that it took the participant to decide
whether the example they where presented with was the same or different object. The means of
both of the sets of data clearly shows that as the angle of the rotation of the object increases the
reaction time of the participant increases. When these means are plotted on a graph they clearly
show a linear increase in reaction time as the angle of rotation increases. This continues until the
object has been rotated 180 degrees. The reaction time decreases linearly as the object is rotated
more and more. Overall the reaction time for the pairs that are of different objects (where one
cannot be made into the other through a rotation are higher) however they follow the same pattern
as the pairs that are of the same objects.

Politics Is The Practice And Theory Of Power And Resources...
Politics (from Greek: ПЂОїО»О№П„О№ОєПЊП‚ politikos, definition of, for, or relating to
citizens ) is the practice and theory of influencing other people. Politics involves the making of a
common decision for a group of people, that is, a uniform decision applying in the same way to all
members of the group. It also involves the use of power by one person to affect the behavior of
another person. More narrowly, it refers to achieving and exercising positions of governance
organized control over a human community, particularly a state. Furthermore, politicsis the study or

Formal Politics refers to the operation of a constitutional system of government and publicly
defined institutions and procedures.[1] Political parties, public policy or discussions about war and
foreign affairs would fall under the category of Formal Politics.[1] Many people view formal
politics as something outside of themselves, but that can still affect their daily lives.[1]
Informal Politics is understood as forming alliances, exercising power and protecting and
advancing particular ideas or goals. Generally, this includes anything affecting one s daily life,
such as the way an office or household is managed, or how one person or group exercises
influence over another.[1] Informal Politics is typically understood as everyday politics, hence the
idea that politics is everywhere .[1]

National Holocaust Memorial Museum Controversy Analysis
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter
words, but to live by them. (John Fitzgerald Kennedy) A memorial is not all about how fancy and

Analysis of Mrs. Dalloway В– Virginia Woolf Mrs. Dalloway, published in 1925, is a romantic
drama with deep psychological approaching in to the world of urban English society in the
summer of 1923, five years after the end of World War I. The book begins in the morning with
the arrangements for a party Clarissa Dalloway will give and it ends late in the evening when the
guests are all leaving. There are many flashbacks to tell us the past of each character, but it does
not leave the range of those few hours. It presents several stream of consciousness devices: indirect
interior monologue, time and space montage, flashbacks and psychological free association based
mainly on memory, with the support of imagination and the senses (mainly... Show more content on

Septimus sensibility is the same as Clarissa s, but he does not control it as she does. She retains
her awareness of reality while she responds to it. Septimus, by contrast, is not always able to
distinguish between his personal response and the external reality in his madness, he feels that if
the birds sing they must be speaking to him; if the aero plane writes in the sky it must be signaling
to him. Even though the two never meet, these two correspond in that they attempt to maintain
possession of themselves, of their souls. Almost all the action occurs in the thoughts of characters,
and, the reader must piece together the story from random pieces of information that Woolf
provides. The point of view changes from one character to the other so naturally that the reader
only realizes it much later. Woolf s characters reveal their depths gradually and slowly; fragments
of thought and memory emerge as they respond to and interact with their environment and other
characters , and from these fragments we piece together each character s past. While most
conventional 3rd person narratives stick close to one character, this narrative gets close to many.
The characters in this type of narrative, especially Mrs. Dalloway are round, this is, are complex,
they have been through a process of transformation throughout the novel being able to in a
convincing way surprise us, as they are built based on various ideas and qualities leaving apart the
idea of the character mind.

Anticipation and Suspense in the Adventure of the Speckled...
How does Conan Doyle create a sense of anticipation and suspense in the Adventure of the Speckled
Band?
The Adventure of the Speckled Band is a classic mystery novel. It is so in the way that it uses
several writing techniques to create a sense of ambiguity and vagueness. Conan Doyle makes
sure to leave the reader with as little information as possible and to make it hard to foresee what
will happen next. This is all to have them anticipate the ending and the solving of the mystery, to
keep them gripped. Even the very title of the novel is unclear and does well to conjure up ideas

The meeting of Helen Stoner is very important. She is described as having veiled and fully black
attire. This suggests that she is in mourning. She is also described as having frightened eyes, like
those of a hunted animal, and being very agitated and trembling. Conan Doyle regularly uses this
technique of showing the reader the symptom before a cause is established. It is much more
shocking. This is all to construct the readers sympathy for Helen Stoner, but also instigate fear in
whatever it is she fears. Conan Doyle also uses this meeting as a means to show the reader the
significance of apparently minor and trivial clues in the story that unfolds. Sherlock Holmes deduces
Helen s mode of travel by observing that she has the second half of a train ticket in the palm of
her hand. This allows him to safely assume that Helen has travelled to him by train that morning.
This technique warns the reader to be on lookout for what may seem like trivial details if they
want to try to solve the mystery. It also allows Conan to throw in some red herrings in order to
divert the reader and throw them off the trail.
Helen Stoner goes on to describe her family and her circumstances, in particularly her Stepfather.
Her description of him suggests to the reader that he is monstrous, brutal and feared by everyone.
In a fit of anger, however, caused by

The Republicans Are Not Very Happy With Donald Trump
Will the Republican Party, as its presidential candidate, nominate Donald Trump? No, the
Republicans are not very happy with Donald Trump. Actually, they will do anything as to even
map out a strategy to sabotage him. With Donald Trump in the lead, there was tightening grip at
the Republicans presidential nominees while Donald Trump was running against Ted Cruz. No
matter how the Republican Presidential primary unfolds from here all the party operatives are
after him. Since March, Donald Trump has been the only candidate that was on a path to winning
the majority of 1,237 delegates. The Republicans are not very pleased with the fact that Trump
has got approximately all the delegates. Donald Trump has his Pros and Cons just like any other
upcoming runners in the election. Some Pros would be that, Donald Trumps background is well
examined, everything that one sees and hears he will do just that; his business experiences involve
negotiations with Business leaders and Government around the World. He has a confident and
powerful trait that works well in politics. Having these characteristics help because he is great at
talking about the topics that arise, and handles them with caution. Because of the powerful and
confident trait this is as to how he has been getting many delegates, although the Republicans are
not very happy about it. Donald Trump has successfully created thousand of jobs and made
millions of dollars. We re being killed on trade absolutely destroyed, Trump

How Does The Concentration Of Substrate Affect The...
Question # 1: How does the concentration of substrate affect the reaction rate?
Hypothesis: If the concentration of a substrate increases, any time an enzyme happens upon a
substrate it will be free to help that substrate react, but then when an enzyme encounters a new
substrate at a slightly higher concentration it will already be working on another substrate,
therefore, as we increase substrate concentration it is not going to increase as fast as the reaction
rate. Argument: Substrates are reacting molecules that are acted upon in order to make what is
called the product (Bio 5LA Lab # 5, pp.1). However, this reaction would not be possible without
enzymes, which are as equally if not more important than substrates because they are ... Show more

This leads me to the argument that there is a relationship between concentration and absorbance
that will enable me to determine the concentration of a solution through the measurement of the
color change in a reaction tube (Bio 5LA Lab # 5, pp.3). It is evident, that the relationship between
concentration, reaction rate, color change, and absorbance plays an important role in demonstrating
that the reaction rate, goes hand in hand with concentration. Ultimately, their relationship will
directly affect the reaction rate of an enzyme catalyzed reaction (Maslov, Dmitri).
Experimental strategy: The experimental approach that will be taken, in order to test my
hypothesis involves the use of the spectrophotometer. This machine will enable me to examine
the effect of different substrate concentrations on the rate of reaction (Bio 5LA Lab # 5, pp.3). In
brief, I will have to take varying concentrations of a substrate, add an enzyme to each of tubes
filled with different concentrations, and rapidly place the tube into the spectrophotometer, in order
to measure the time it takes the varying substances to change color. As a result, when the color
change is visible in any of the varying substrate concentrations, it will be safe to say that, the
enzyme has reacted with the substrate, to form an enzyme substrate complex. Similarly, the time it
took for a color change to happen, will allow me to observe and record the rate at which each

Summary Of All The Light We Cannot See
One hundred and twenty one years before Anthony Doerr published All the Light We Cannot
See, Oscar Wilde wrote, There are moments when one has to choose between living one s own
life, fully, entirely, completely or dragging out some false, shallow, degrading existence that the
world in its hypocrisy demands. This sentiment could be a summary of All The Light We Cannot
See. It could easily be translated into the words repeatedly uttered in Doerr s Pulitzer Prize
winning novel: Open your eyes and see what you can with them before they close forever. To
open the eyes is to live fully. To leave them closed is to live that shallow, degrading existence the
worlddemands and often rewards. The world is not just. When the choice that is right contradicts
the world s desires, to live fully is to live a life of risk. Anthony Doerr s characterization of Werner
illustrates this divide between the right choice and the easy choice, and how when it matters most,
they rarely overlap.
From childhood we were shown Werner s individuality. His striking white hair, the color of his
eyes, even his love of knowledge showed he was different. He made the choice to pursue his
passion for mechanics when it was harmless, but when the world comes knocking at the
orphanage door, bringing in a vice minister and his wife, it is the first time in his life where the
easier choice of compliance is separated from the right choice of the individual. Werner sits in
silence when his passion, the thing that

A Barbed Wire Piano Commemorates Korean Independence
A barbed wire piano commemorates Korean independence
The Korean Ministry of Unification has joined forces with Cheil Worldwide, the advertising arm of
Samsung, to unveil the strangely beautiful Piano of Unification, a project which commemorates
Korea s 70th anniversary of liberation from Japanese occupation, and aims to enhance interest in the
national reunification of South and North Korea. The piano in question uses barbed wire pulled
from the inter Korean border (a literal symbol of the nation s division) for its strings, and will be
exhibited and performed on in public at Seoul Museum of Art in central Seoul. All of the wires
used in the piano were taken from the border fence while some changes were made to one of the
pianos to allow it a greater range and sound accuracy.

Medicine And I Were Not Love At First Sight
Medicine and I were not really love at first sight. In fact, medicine would dress up as an
Oncologist and drop me off to school every morning, but still no love. If anything, I hated it
since I would see sick and sad people as I would wait on my father to finish his clinic on our way
home. To me these patients were nothing more than a hurdle between me and my Nintendo and
Sega. It was during one of those traffic jams on our way home that my emotions boiled over and I
blurted out, What is it that you do, delay the inevitable. Make their existence more painful and
miserable as they wait on becoming a worm buffet. Torture them with your chemicals and
radiations until they blink eternally. What? I am glad I wasn t my father that day or I would have
lost it, Medicineaka dad did not. That day, he should have given me a piece of his minds but
instead he opted for giving me a piece of his heart. Having gone through the motions of school and
feeling lost all along, I had finally found the path in my life, that too in the most unlikely of
places... a traffic jam.
Life just switched gears. A lot of hard work went into getting from that traffic jam to medical school
. Basic science years taught me all about the structure and function of the miracle that is the human
body. Clinical rotations taught me that there was a lot more to that structure and function then I
thought, and what I was taught. The more I learnt the more I felt I needed to learn. An

William Shakespeare: King Henry V
Though William Shakespeare: King Henry V may not be one of the best of his plays, through the
protagonist King Henry V he depicts an ideal image that leaders should seek religious guidance
from religious leaders in the quest to rule. This is to provide guidance in their leadership and rule.
Various scenes in the play are constructed to illustrate King Henry VChristian character like mercy,
caring for the poor and his sense of justice which is experienced in the way he deals with prisoners
(Stephen). Furthermore, King Henry V religious nature is depicted throughout the play. This is

This aspect helps to mold him to his future triumphs as a famous leader. In addition to that, His
childhood experiences help build his morals and instill his Christian values (Stephen). Also, Henry
V youth helps him develop a good relationship with his soldiers because he is used to talking with
everyone. William Shakespeare uses the character of Henry V to provide insight to people that
leaders should maintain a pure relationship with the people they rule. Through this, Leaders build
and live in a harmonious state. Therefore, drawing from this play, leaders should not raise their
identity once they assume power and forget about their past friends. Leaders when rising to fame
and popularity, should keep hold of their humble upbringing together with their longtime friends.
This helps them remember their personal lives and have a touch of the common citizen. Moreover,
the play emphasizes on the impact that King Henry V had to his soldiers, and despite the play not
showing numerous occasion when King Henry was in the battle, his vivid contribution and effort
are recognizable throughout. William Shakespeare illustrates Henry V as an inspiration to soldiers
and people as he helps them rise to larger ranks and attain more significant achievements (William,

The Causes Of High Student Debt
The Causes of High Student Debt
Today, in our society there is high expectation for students to go higher education after finishing
high school. Since College tuition is going skyrocket a lot of students are having hard time
paying for their tuitions. Most students, to pay for their college tuition, they have to apply for
loans that put them in dept after they graduate According to recent report by Fay, 72% of the
Class of 2017 graduates owes an average of more than $37,000 for the four years they put in
earning a degree (Fay). These graduates have only six month grace period before the first loan
payment is due and for most of them; this is not the way they expected to start their adult life (Fay).
After graduation this debt can be overwhelming to pay off. It isn t fair, but that s what it s like to be
a student these days. It is very important to know the factors that led to increase student loans. That
helps students and their families to educate themselves and to manage the loans.
The number one cause for students to get into too much debt is the high increase in college
tuition cost every year. According to Best, College costs are climbing faster than the cost of
living, with more than half of college students carrying an average debt of $27,000 at graduation
(Best I II). Students tend to be overburdened with debt when they graduate. Some go on to pursue
advanced degrees; on the way, they end up with more debt because the career these students are

Being Male or Female Locks Us Into Roles
In most cultures, the term gender is associated with social roles and labor tasks and is usually
determined by biological sex. To be male or female is a pre constructed identity which locks
people into roles and behaviors and penalizes deviation (*). If a person identifies themselves as a
man, they are expected to perform the role as the strong, independent and hardworking man. If a
person identifies themselves as a woman, they are expected to be beautiful, nurturing, passive and
dependent on other people. These identities of male and female creates a strong divide between
people and produces a hierarchal society. These ideas of masculinityultimately portray dominance
and power over women which further encourages hegemonic masculinity that is already present in
contemporary social structures. This idea of masculinity is highly evident in social structures such
as education, workplace, military and various forms of media. Through generating these notions of
masculinity, it will continue to place women in subordination. A part of being masculine is
possessing dominance through education. Men need to be educated in order to succeed and exert
power over women and do so through the intellectual. Even throughout history, males had full
access to education while women were prevented from being educated. For a man to be educated,
he is then able to obtain good paying jobs to support his family. The wealthier a man is, the more
strength, power and dominance he conveys. Although

Why Hybrids Vehicles Are Better Than Gas
Why Hybrids Vehicles Are Better Than Gas Introduction Hybrid is a term used to describe a
combination of two or more distinctive things, aiming to accomplish a common objective. A
hybrid vehicle is a fuel efficient vehicle having two motors one a gasoline powered motor and the
other electric motor. The reason for combining two motors is using their strengths and reducing
deficiencies. Electric motor is used at low speed wile gas motors perform better at high speed
generating extra power for a particular motor weight. During rush hours, when vehicles are
continuously stopping and running, performance of electric motor is appreciative. Gas motor
supports higher speed supporting driving at the highways. (Anderson 134 45) Hybrid vehicles are
continuously gaining popularity in the general public. With the growing societal concerns about
green revolution and also achieving significant reduction in fuel consumption, hybrid vehicles are
considered satisfactory in performance. They have become so popular that certain tax incentives
have been offered by the government on hybrid vehicles. Due to their better performance compared
with gas powered vehicles, we present the thesis of our paper as follows: Thesis statement: it is
hypothesized that compared with the gas powered vehicles, hybrids offer more benefits in
maintenance, are cost effective, and most importantly environmental friendly. History of Hybrid

My Personal Philosophy Of Education
PHILOSOPHY ESSAY 2 I remember my history teacher. He would often chat with me in
German before or after class; sometimes helping explain certain nuances of the language.
However, I can t tell you what information we covered that year, let alone if it was American
History, or Ancient History. Can you remember anything specific from your history class in high
school? My hope is that if I were to teach American History, my students would enjoy coming to
class, be able to use what they learned in their own lives, in addition to remembering what was
discussed during the course of the year. My philosophyof educationis a well rounded mixture of
perennialism, progressivism, social reform, and essentialism. While students need the rigor of math
and science, driven in part by knowing they will be tested; I do believe that it is necessary to
include instruction in practical knowledgethat pertains to a student s everyday life. Furthermore, I
believe that kids are more willing to learn, when they know their teacher cares about them on a
personal level. Knowledge is important, but the goal in raising children, or teaching other kids, is
for them to become mature adults. However, it is also crucial to help students enter society with an
understanding of others. This will help them to be a positive addition to a community. We need
well rounded adults in our society, and I

William Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus
Titus Andronicus is an interesting play of William Shakespeare s that deals with multiple difficult
and important plot devices and themes. Themes of love, duty, grief, and revenge, among others.
The play deals with death, rape, the nature of disability, and service to one s nation. Many events
and tragedies happen to Titus and his family, stemming from Titus killing the sonof the queen of
Goths. Titus perception of his tragedytruly begins in Act 3 scene 1. Two of Titus sons are being
charged with the murder of the emperor s brother, despite the fact that they did not commit this
heinous act. In the speech he gives in lines 65 80, we see a change in Titus that is unprecedented
to this point. Here, because of the injustice about to be served to his sons, Titus shows more
outward emotion and affection than he s shown to this place in the play. The imagery and the
speech in this scene tell a bit about Titus before this turning point, and the man he will be after.
The speech starts after Titus pleas to the judges and immediately after Marcus brings Lavinia,
Titus daughter, to him after she has been raped, had her hands cut off, and her tongue cut out.
Lines 65 80 is Titus first response to what he sees of his daughter s situation before becoming
aware that her tongue has been cut out as well. In lines 68 69, Titus says [w]hat fool hath added
water to the sea or brought a faggot to bright burning Troy? Titus imagery is poignant in his grief
and pain. Titus

Elasticity of Labour Demand Essay example
Elasticity of Labour Demand Labour is a derived demand realised by the demand for the product
that the labour will be producing. The theory of labour demand explains the behaviour of the firm
with the key principle being to achieve the optimal amounts of labour employers will want to utilise
at different wage levels. We must make several assumptions when describing how the long run
labour demand is derived. Firstly we must assume that firms are profit maximisers and therefore
will attempt always to minimise any costs incurred. Further assumptions to simplify analysis of
labour demand are that there are no costs of employment other than hourly wages and productivity
of labour is independent of time worked. I.e. Labour is homogenous.... Show more content on

If this equation was rewritten, the slope of the isoquant would be found. The slope of the isoquant
can be formulated by the marginal rate of technical substitution. (†K/ †L) = (MPL /MPK) As
previously mentioned, a profit maximising firm will always wish to minimise costs. A budget
constraint will signify the fixed sum that a firm can spend on inputs. It is the financial
constraint of a firm. Capital can be given a charge of r (per unit bought) and labour can be given
a price, w (wage rate per hour). Cost of Production = wL + rK If a firm were to spend its total
budget on capital, it could purchase C/r, and similarly, to spend all its funds on labour, C/w
could be hired. The slope of the firmsГ‚ financial constraint, or isocost, will hence be w/r, and all
other points along the line show the various purchases they could make of the inputs. Criteria: В·

Health Disparities In San Joaquin County
A variety of challenges including personal, social, economic, and environmental factors can
determine the health of an individual as well as its community. Others determinants of health
include genetics, access to medical care, and socioeconomic measures such as education and

gaps that exist between different communities and populations. Health disparities can affect
communities based on gender, age, race, social status, economic status, or special care needs.

Consumers purchasing products and services on credit or a loan happens every day in today s
society. Tommy Takem is the proprietor of an appliance and electronics store located in a rural area
of southwest Virginia. The business sells merchandise to customers who are predominantly
uneducated, poor, and Tommy received a letter from a disgruntled customer who is claiming the
contract is unconscionable, no further payments would be made, and if he does not clear the debt,
threats of litigation and letters will be sent to the editors of all local newspapers. Tommy is
apprehensive to the validity of the charges stated in the letter and how it may affect his lucrative
business. The focus of this research is to answer the questions concerning the justification of the
disgruntled customer s threats, and the ethical or unethical business model.
Disgruntled Customer

woman named Sally Walker and had her sign several documents to complete the sale. The bill of
sale, security agreement, and negotiable promissory note were processed and then a financing
statement was submitted the appropriate state office. The buyer has pledged to pay the seller a
defined amount in installments and took possession of the collateral (computer). Ecclesiastes 5:4

Indian Assimilation from early 1800
Marcus Garvey once said, A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and
culture is like a tree without roots (Bro). Here, he proclaims the idea that in order to live a
culture must be passed down from generation to generation, growing its roots. When two cultures
were fighting for dominance in the U.S., the American government developed a plan to eradicate
the First Nations roots, buying into the philosophy of Captain Richard H. Pratt when he stated
that instead of killing all the Natives it would be of more use to kill the Indian, and save the man
( Kill ). Between the late 1800 s and early 1900 s, the United Statesgovernment used boarding
schools to try to assimilate Native Americans into modern American culture;... Show more content

Each boarding school had a set of tight rules designed to assimilate the children in such a way that
they forgot or rejected their native culture. The children were forced to leave behind their
original religion and properly observe the Sabbath every Sunday ( Rules 53). They were strictly
forbidden in speaking in their native dialect and were not allowed to keep their native dress but
had to adopt a uniform style of clothing (Stone). Also the children were taught to enjoy the games
of the young white children rather than being able to play the games of their childhood ( Rules
54). These policies assimilated the children of the First Nations by giving them a new
Americanized way of thought based on a Christian Anglo Saxon view of the world and bestowing
upon them an Americanized outward appearance by teaching them to play, act, and dress like white
American children. However, the new Americanized outward appearance stripped the Indian
children of their individuality and cultural identity. The accounts of Zitkala Sa Sioux and Lilly
Quoetone Nahwooksy demonstrate this assault on the children s native identity. While Zitkala Sa
Sioux attended the Quaker missionary school in Wabash Indiana at age eight, her beautiful long
hair was cut against her will, which was considered an act of great injustice in her culture. She had
been taught that only unskilled warriors who were captured had their hair shingled by an enemy,

The Crucial Role of Native Americans Essays
For the better part of American history, the Indians have been viewed and portrayed as dimwitted,
helpless victims that aimlessly stood by while the Europeans conquered their land, but this view
has recently come under fire and has been overturned, as it was determined to be misleading and
inaccurate. Two historians that have questioned the legitimacy of past beliefs regarding the Indians
are Charles Mann and James Axtell. Each has made it plainly clear in their articles that the actions
of Indians should no longer be treated as useless footnotes on the pages of history. While their
articles are on seemingly different subjects, their views and beliefs on the importance of Indians in
American history are incontrovertibly the same as both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tisquantum was using the oblivious Europeans for his own means, and although he never achieved
his goals, it is worth pointing out that he had ulterior motives for aiding the Pilgrims in their time of
need. Mann does a good job of supporting his opinion and showing that Indians were not just aloof
and passive but conniving and manipulative like their European counterparts. Unfortunately, in the
end all the planning and trickery in the world couldn t have saved the Indians as they were just
simply outnumbered and technologically inferior to the Europeans. James Axtell wrote the article
entitled, Colonial America Without the Indians and it goes into extreme detail to pinpoint the
impact that the Indians had on American history. Axtell picks out important events that irrefutably
made the U.S. the country it is today and shows what may have happened had the Indians not been
in existence. For example, America may not have been settled as quickly if not for the Indians
because explorers wouldn t have known of the hidden gold and silver deposits, many early
settlements would likely have failed without knowledge and support from the Indians, and guerilla
warfare was practically taught to the Americans by the Indians and became a central piece in the
winning of the American Revolution. Most importantly, however, contact with the Indians helped
Americanize the settlers. It was the changes in the European culture brought on by the Indians

Survival Cannibalism In Anthropology
The anthropologist is the act or practice of humans or other species eating organs or the flesh of
their own kind. Cannibalism has been a part of the human culture for so long and resurfacing in
the recent decades. Cannibalism has been reportedly practiced by many different cultures in all
continents on earth. Each of them has separate reasons to why they practiced it. It could be from
psychosexual impulses, relief from stress or they just want to eat humans as food no more no less.
There are many variations on human cannibalism, but the main three are survival cannibalism,
endocannibalism and exocannibalism. Survival cannibalism is the practice of human beings eating
other human beings as a necessity in order to survive. This type of practice

The Battle of Britain was a major campaign during World War II, in which aircraft played an
important role. The policy towards Germany s aggressive acts before the war had been one of
pacification. Unfortunately, this left the Western powers with a deficient military and unprepared
for war when it began. The Germans swept through Europe. They defeated Poland in September
1939 to start World War II. During the spring of 1940, Germany conquered Belgium, Denmark,
Holland, Norway, and France. Italy had joined the war as an ally of Germany, Russia had signed a
treaty of non aggression, and the United States remained neutral. When France fell in June of 1940,
Great Britain was the only country left who still opposed Germany. Great Britain s opposition...

The Importance Of The Tourism Industry In Costa Rica
2.3 Tourism Industry
The tourism industry plays a large part in the Costa Rican economy, directly and indirectly.
Because of the biodiversity and conservationist areas, the two coastlines totaling 1290 km, and the
temperate climate, Costa Rica is a frequent destination for eco tourism. 64% of the Costa Rican
labor force is employed in services industry, many of that falling under tourist services, and many
restaurants and hotels located in tourist towns. Of that workforce, 40% is directly employed by the
tourist industry, 39% indirectly, and 21% induced. In 2016, 2.6 million tourists visited Costa Rica,
spending approximately 3.4 billion USD. The combination of direct and indirect contribution of
tourism on the national GDP totaled 17.3 percent.
3.0 Technology
Costa Rica s main technological advancements in the recent years can be placed in three
categories: renewable energy, software developments, and medical devices. These three industries
thrived in Costa Rica for very different reasons
3.1 Renewable Energy
In 2016, 98.1% of the country s electricity was generated from renewable energy sources, such as
hydroelectric, geothermal, wind, and solar power. Because of Costa Rica s pledge to be carbon
neutral by 2021 and the general attitude of Costa Ricans to be eco friendly, a heavy emphasis on
renewable energy research has been present in the country for many years. Since so much of their
identity as a country and their tourism industry is reliant on the country s

Report To Wordsworth And Lament
For my coursework I ve decided to choose the poems Report to Wordsworth and Lament .
The reason I ve chosen Report to Wordsworth as one of my poems to talk about is because it
shows the relationship between people and nature, but in this poem it isn t a good relationship
between them because in the poem it talks about how we have damaged the Earth. In the poem it
also has personification where the poet has personified Nature as a woman the poet has also used
similes and metaphors.
My other poem I ve decided to do is Lament because it talks about how the Gulf War has affected
the people, the animals and also the environment around us, like Report To Wordsworth the poem
explores the feeling of sorrow, grief and empathy. Unlike Report to... Show more content on

is affecting the plants, animals and people. People also dump a lot of rubbish in the ocean and on
land (forests, streets etc.) If we look at a specific word in that sentence insatiate the meaning of that
word is that someone is never satisfied, which shows that people aren t satisfied till they get what
they want.
The second poem I ve chosen is Lament, one of the main things suggested by the poem is the
use of for the in the start of every single sentence, the words for the show the remembrance of all
of the people, animals etc. that were sadly affected by the Gulf War. This feature is in a way
dedicated to all of the soldiers, birds, oceans and all of the other wildlife that were affected by the
war, Lament also means a passionate expression of grief and sorrow
At the end of the first stanza for her eggs laid in their nest of sickness the use of this metaphor
allows one of the main purposes, which is the effect of the war on the environment. You would
usually associate eggs with life and babies but now since the war was going on their habitats have

Manifest Manhood And The Antebellum American Empire Summary
Manifest Manhood and the Antebellum American Empire by Amy Greenburg analyzes the time
period between 1848 through 1861. The book emphasizes on manifest destiny and gender roles
that it plays during this time. Greenburg focuses on real life people and politics for her readers.
She specifically does that by using stories from newspapers, journals, diaries, letters, books, and
more.
Greenburg wrote this book to show the American progress. At this time, America has just came out
of the Mexican American war. She wants the readers to know how America was still expanding.
Manifest destiny was still continuing, although some historians might disagree. Manhood was
mostly defined by the land that you had. In addition, America was transforming politically ... Show

Greenburg stated in the book that they were businessmen. Although it was restraints in manhood

southerners, not towards America as a whole. In addition, she separates the rich and poor in the
book. The guys who needed manhood were most likely the poor. It is weird she chose to do this

The presidency prioritized the EU with other nations of the world to carry out initiatives to
implement an effective immigration policy (Programme and Priorities). Additionally, the Paris
terrorist attacks of November 2015 made migration policy even more of a priority for Luxembourg.
Even today in 2016, the migration crisis is becoming a great problem for the EU and its Member
States. Ignoring the issues will not solve the problem and Luxembourg clearly recognized that
migration within the EU is something that they must resolve. To manage with the influx of
migrants, the Council and the Parliament agreed to designate more than 2 million euros for
humanitarian aid and emergency assistance(Report of Achievement). The EU gave this money to
Member States who are having the hardest time with dealing the migrants. This would help smaller
countries, like Luxembourg, to manage the refugee crisis. Also, the Luxembourg presidency
implemented the European Agenda on Migration to focus on the issue of migration within and
outside the European Union (Report of the Achievement). This crisis is not just a European issue
and by talking with other countries, like Turkey, a better system can be created to help the refugees
and the people affected by the refugees. The refugee crisis is still an ongoing problem and the

The Case Of Brown V. Board Of Education Of Topeka
In 1954, The United States Supreme Court made a landmark decision with its ruling in the case
of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. The ruling was a monumental one for multiple
reasons. Firstly, it was a major step in the Civil Rights Movement as it ended the legal use of
separate but equal facilities, under the ruling that this violated the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal
Protection Clause. It gave African Americans access to better schools, and also gave them a
greater sense of dignity as they no longer could be legally forced to drink from different fountains
or sit in separate sections. Another aspect of the decision that makes it so significant is the fact that

He believed that in order to understand law, one must first realize what law s purpose is. He,
like Thomas, argued that law s purpose it to benefit society by creating a morally sound order to
human action and conduct. He detailed seven goods that he believed to be intrinsic and
universal, and argued that laws should be enforced under the stipulation that they adhere to the
enhancement of these goods, because they are what determines a fulfilling life. They are: life,
knowledge, play, aesthetic experience, sociability, practical reasonableness, and religion. The
goods that relate to the thesis of this paper the most are knowledge and sociability, as the result
of the case has a direct benefit on them and is, therefore, moral and legitimate. Legal positivists,
however, disagree that morality has any place in determining what legitimate law is. H. L. A. Hart
based much of his theory on the previous legal positivist John Austin s work. Austin believed that
laws obtain their legitimacy from the recognition of a society s members in the authority of their
unruled ruler. This unruled entity that enforces laws with the backing of sanctions, is what Austin
terms the sovereign. He believed that in order for a sovereign to exist it had to be habitually
complied with by those it governs. What separates Austin s theory from natural law theories is that
he did not believe that laws had to be created or followed on the basis of morality. According to
Austin s

Feminism In The Scarlett Letter
Feminism in the Scarlet Letter According to Merriam Webster Dictionary the word feminism
means the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes . In a way the Scarlett
Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, portrays its main protagonist, Hester Prynne, as a poster
child for early feminism. Throughout the story Hester is slandered and shunned upon about
committing the sin of adultery. As the story continues we see the character of Hester evolve from a
timid, shameful human being into a confident, strong woman. With Hester facing the hardships of
making a living for herself, singlehandedly raising a child, and changing Puritansocial norms one
can conclude that the Scarlett Letter is an early piece of feministic literature. As a women in early
American society, women usually didn t play the role of the breadwinner in the household, but
Hester was an exception. Hester made quite a name for herself in the Massachusetts Bay Colony,
for her elegant work she produces with a needle and a thread.
Even though, Hester was the outcast of the town, her work was still seen on the ruff of the
Governor; military men wore it on their scarfs, and the minister on his band; it decked the baby s
little cap; it was shut up, to be mildewed and moulder away, in the coffins of the dead.
(Hawthorne 124). Hester s perseverance and work ethic helped her financially get by and provide
from her family, during a time where women were even less accounted for.
Hester did what even possible to make sure her family was able to survive, she put in as many
hours as she saw fit to occupy with her needle (Hawthorne 124). Clearly Hester has pushed the
social barriers that society as imprisoned her in for years and shattered them into pieces by
making a living for herself, in a society where it is highly unlikely for a women of her status to
accomplish, especially for a person who has an reputation like hers. Day after day, Hester is
reminded of the reason of her exile from her previous, everyday life. Hester was an adulteress, and
with that sin came a child. Singlehandedly, Hester had to raise this child, without a any moral,
financial support. Often in times breaking down into tears talking to the heavens asking

  • 7. The Characteristics Of Ed Gein And The Leatherface In 1974, director Tobe Hooper revolutionized horror with his film inspired by a true story, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Almost immediately after the film s release, rumors began to circulate that there was an actual chainsaw wielding madman living with his deranged family in the town of Poth, Texas. The inspired events were also said to have taken place on August 18th, 1973. However, a quick check of that date reveals that the film had just wrapped four days prior, making it fairly difficult to base a film on an actual event that had yet to occur. Despite this, there was an actual skin wearing maniac that was the film s inspiration. He may not have had a chainsaw, but serial killer Ed Gein was a key inspiration for the infamous Leatherface. Born in 1906 in Plainfield, Wisconsin, Ed Gein lived most of his life as a reclusive loner. Born to an alcoholic father, George, and a fanatically religious mother, Augusta, Ed Gein suffered heavy psychological and physical abuse at the hands of his parents. Classmates remember Ed as being reclusive with strange habits. One of his most unnerving habits was to randomly laugh out loud as though someone had told a joke that only he could hear. Credit Wikipedia A severe alcoholic who could not hold a job, Ed s father, George, was despised by his wife, creating a heavy amount of tension in the home. Augusta s strict biblical teachings were extremely instrumental in shaping Ed s attitude towards women. Fond of preaching from the Old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Before Starting Law School Before starting law school, you will likely have an entire summer off. That means you will have 2 3 months (or more) to kind of sit around before you start coursework. What should you do? You have a lot of options. This article will outline a few, but remember that you have many, many options, none of which include relaxing or doing nothing. Option 1: Study. Your first option is probably the option you least want to actually do. Studying does not mean buy your law school books early and crack them open to look at them. Studying, here, means that you should be reading about the basics of the law. It is advantageous to become familiar with the United States legal system at the least. Study the United States Constitution (you will take Con Law your 1L year), study the basics of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC for short, contract law course), and check out some of the foundational cases in US legal history (a simple google search will reveal Marbury v. • 10. Taking a Look at Myasthenia Gravis People go to doctors offices with a lot of different conditions everyday. A lot of those conditions happen to share the same symptoms which could make it hard to determine what is truly wrong with a patient without a diagnosis. A diagnosis is a methodical evaluation of symptoms and complaints through interview, observation, testing instruments and/or procedures taken to determine if an illness is present (1). It is important that a person be diagnosed thoroughly and properly so that they can receive the right treatment (if available) to make the patient better. A patient with symptoms like Susan s would need a full diagnosis to determine exactly what he/she has, which is what her doctor did. Her doctor s diagnosis made it easy for us to determine whether her illness is myasthenia gravisor myotonic muscular dystrophy. Here s how. We learned through research that myasthenia gravis and myotonic muscular dystrophy are two common forms of muscular disorders. Myasthenia gravis is a neuromuscular disorder that usually occurs in the arms, head and chest (2). Its symptoms include limb weakness, drooping eyelids, impaired vision, difficulty chewing and swallowing, slurred speech, difficulty breathing and abnormality of the thymus gland (3). Villano III entered with Villano IV and V for his retirement match, while the Psycho clowns are known for their lengthy stints as six man tag champs. It s immediately apparent why it s rated so low. There s no structure, no rules being enforced, two referees stood around, Los Villanos taking it in turns to deliver sloppy, slow offense. You can see the clowns waiting around outside to have their turn. The best spot of the match was the double suicide dive by the clowns. The clowns, despite them looking like heels, didn t want to play the heels. The most cringing parts is one of the clowns using a yellow rag of some kind (even if anyone was to be DQ d, it did zero damage), deciding to pick up a chair only to show respect to Villano III and not use it, and the aborted pin fall on Villano III as the clown didn t want to pin him specificially. While they are usually portrayed as the brave, handsome and trained heroes of a nation, in this poem the reader confronts the reality of the soldiers atrocious mental state as they returned home filled with terror and nightmares of the battlefield. The poet s main objective of presenting the characterization that will be further explained is to shockthe reader with the graphic and brutal scenes the soldiers had to experience during combat and expose the physical and mental consequences of war, highlighting the destruction and terror it brought to humanity. However, the phrase back into their brain refers once again to the memories coming back and tormenting the abandoned men, as well as the affirmation that dawn bleeds afresh, showing that the soldiers are not able to heal and no matter how much time passes, they still remember the scenes of war freshly. In addition to this, the onomatopoeias used in the last four verses: plucking, picking, snatching and pawing, construct an image of the men crawling helplessly and grasping desperately with their animalistic claws at a society that has turned their backs to them. This connects back to Owen s purpose of getting society s attention and comprehension of the mentally injured men so they can help them. In this same stanza, a visual imagery that goes back to the idea of the living death of the first stanza is introduced with the words set smiling corpses. Corpses refers directly to the skeletal and abdominal figures described in the beginning, but with the addition of the adjective set smiling , not only is an oxymoron built, but it also shows the taunting and dismal stare of men that suffer from shell shock, reinforcing again the consequences of ... In this experiment partcipants were presented with two three dimensional objects. Some of the pairs of objects where the same object and some of them where different objects. Partcipants were asked to identify whether the second object was the same as the first one in the pair, even though it was shown as being rotated around a set angle, or if it was a completely different object. The reaction time of the partcipant s was found to be directly related to the degree of the angle of which the object was rotated. The participant is presented with a pair of shapes and asked to decide whether the shapes are of the same or different images (whether one can be turned into the other by a rotation). The participant clicks a button to specify whether the images are the same or different. RESULTS The results of this experiment are the mean reaction times that it took the participant to decide whether the example they where presented with was the same or different object. The means of both of the sets of data clearly shows that as the angle of the rotation of the object increases the reaction time of the participant increases. When these means are plotted on a graph they clearly show a linear increase in reaction time as the angle of rotation increases. This continues until the object has been rotated 180 degrees. The reaction time decreases linearly as the object is rotated more and more. Overall the reaction time for the pairs that are of different objects (where one cannot be made into the other through a rotation are higher) however they follow the same pattern as the pairs that are of the same objects. The Adventure of the Speckled Band is a classic mystery novel. It is so in the way that it uses several writing techniques to create a sense of ambiguity and vagueness. Conan Doyle makes sure to leave the reader with as little information as possible and to make it hard to foresee what will happen next. This is all to have them anticipate the ending and the solving of the mystery, to keep them gripped. The meeting of Helen Stoner is very important. She is described as having veiled and fully black attire. This suggests that she is in mourning. She is also described as having frightened eyes, like those of a hunted animal, and being very agitated and trembling. Conan Doyle regularly uses this technique of showing the reader the symptom before a cause is established. It is much more shocking. This is all to construct the readers sympathy for Helen Stoner, but also instigate fear in whatever it is she fears. Conan Doyle also uses this meeting as a means to show the reader the significance of apparently minor and trivial clues in the story that unfolds. Sherlock Holmes deduces Helen s mode of travel by observing that she has the second half of a train ticket in the palm of her hand. This allows him to safely assume that Helen has travelled to him by train that morning. This technique warns the reader to be on lookout for what may seem like trivial details if they want to try to solve the mystery. It also allows Conan to throw in some red herrings in order to divert the reader and throw them off the trail. Hypothesis: If the concentration of a substrate increases, any time an enzyme happens upon a substrate it will be free to help that substrate react, but then when an enzyme encounters a new substrate at a slightly higher concentration it will already be working on another substrate, therefore, as we increase substrate concentration it is not going to increase as fast as the reaction rate. Ultimately, their relationship will directly affect the reaction rate of an enzyme catalyzed reaction (Maslov, Dmitri). Experimental strategy: The experimental approach that will be taken, in order to test my hypothesis involves the use of the spectrophotometer. In brief, I will have to take varying concentrations of a substrate, add an enzyme to each of tubes filled with different concentrations, and rapidly place the tube into the spectrophotometer, in order to measure the time it takes the varying substances to change color. As a result, when the color change is visible in any of the varying substrate concentrations, it will be safe to say that, the enzyme has reacted with the substrate, to form an enzyme substrate complex. Summary Of All The Light We Cannot See One hundred and twenty one years before Anthony Doerr published All the Light We Cannot See, Oscar Wilde wrote, There are moments when one has to choose between living one s own life, fully, entirely, completely or dragging out some false, shallow, degrading existence that the world in its hypocrisy demands. This sentiment could be a summary of All The Light We Cannot See. It could easily be translated into the words repeatedly uttered in Doerr s Pulitzer Prize winning novel: Open your eyes and see what you can with them before they close forever. To open the eyes is to live fully. To leave them closed is to live that shallow, degrading existence the worlddemands and often rewards. The world is not just. When the choice that is right contradicts the world s desires, to live fully is to live a life of risk. Anthony Doerr s characterization of Werner illustrates this divide between the right choice and the easy choice, and how when it matters most, they rarely overlap. From childhood we were shown Werner s individuality. His striking white hair, the color of his eyes, even his love of knowledge showed he was different. He made the choice to pursue his passion for mechanics when it was harmless, but when the world comes knocking at the orphanage door, bringing in a vice minister and his wife, it is the first time in his life where the easier choice of compliance is separated from the right choice of the individual. • 33. Being Male or Female Locks Us Into Roles In most cultures, the term gender is associated with social roles and labor tasks and is usually determined by biological sex. To be male or female is a pre constructed identity which locks people into roles and behaviors and penalizes deviation (*). If a person identifies themselves as a man, they are expected to perform the role as the strong, independent and hardworking man. If a person identifies themselves as a woman, they are expected to be beautiful, nurturing, passive and dependent on other people. These identities of male and female creates a strong divide between people and produces a hierarchal society. These ideas of masculinityultimately portray dominance and power over women which further encourages hegemonic masculinity that is already present in contemporary social structures. This idea of masculinity is highly evident in social structures such as education, workplace, military and various forms of media. Through generating these notions of masculinity, it will continue to place women in subordination. A part of being masculine is possessing dominance through education. Men need to be educated in order to succeed and exert power over women and do so through the intellectual. Even throughout history, males had full access to education while women were prevented from being educated. For a man to be educated, he is then able to obtain good paying jobs to support his family. The wealthier a man is, the more strength, power and dominance he conveys. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Hybrids Vehicles Are Better Than Gas Why Hybrids Vehicles Are Better Than Gas Introduction Hybrid is a term used to describe a combination of two or more distinctive things, aiming to accomplish a common objective. A hybrid vehicle is a fuel efficient vehicle having two motors one a gasoline powered motor and the other electric motor. The reason for combining two motors is using their strengths and reducing deficiencies. Electric motor is used at low speed wile gas motors perform better at high speed generating extra power for a particular motor weight. During rush hours, when vehicles are continuously stopping and running, performance of electric motor is appreciative. Gas motor supports higher speed supporting driving at the highways. My hope is that if I were to teach American History, my students would enjoy coming to class, be able to use what they learned in their own lives, in addition to remembering what was discussed during the course of the year. My philosophyof educationis a well rounded mixture of perennialism, progressivism, social reform, and essentialism. While students need the rigor of math and science, driven in part by knowing they will be tested; I do believe that it is necessary to include instruction in practical knowledgethat pertains to a student s everyday life. Furthermore, I believe that kids are more willing to learn, when they know their teacher cares about them on a personal level. Knowledge is important, but the goal in raising children, or teaching other kids, is for them to become mature adults. Themes of love, duty, grief, and revenge, among others. The play deals with death, rape, the nature of disability, and service to one s nation. Many events and tragedies happen to Titus and his family, stemming from Titus killing the sonof the queen of Goths. Titus perception of his tragedytruly begins in Act 3 scene 1. Two of Titus sons are being charged with the murder of the emperor s brother, despite the fact that they did not commit this heinous act. In the speech he gives in lines 65 80, we see a change in Titus that is unprecedented to this point. Here, because of the injustice about to be served to his sons, Titus shows more outward emotion and affection than he s shown to this place in the play. The imagery and the speech in this scene tell a bit about Titus before this turning point, and the man he will be after. The speech starts after Titus pleas to the judges and immediately after Marcus brings Lavinia, Titus daughter, to him after she has been raped, had her hands cut off, and her tongue cut out. Lines 65 80 is Titus first response to what he sees of his daughter s situation before becoming aware that her tongue has been cut out as well. In lines 68 69, Titus says [w]hat fool hath added water to the sea or brought a faggot to bright burning Troy? Titus imagery is poignant in his grief and pain. Titus ... The theory of labour demand explains the behaviour of the firm with the key principle being to achieve the optimal amounts of labour employers will want to utilise at different wage levels. We must make several assumptions when describing how the long run labour demand is derived. Firstly we must assume that firms are profit maximisers and therefore will attempt always to minimise any costs incurred. Further assumptions to simplify analysis of labour demand are that there are no costs of employment other than hourly wages and productivity of labour is independent of time worked. I.e. A budget constraint will signify the fixed sum that a firm can spend on inputs. It is the financial constraint of a firm. Capital can be given a charge of r (per unit bought) and labour can be given a price, w (wage rate per hour). Cost of Production = wL + rK If a firm were to spend its total budget on capital, it could purchase C/r, and similarly, to spend all its funds on labour, C/w could be hired. The slope of the firmsГ‚ financial constraint, or isocost, will hence be w/r, and all other points along the line show the various purchases they could make of the inputs. When two cultures were fighting for dominance in the U.S., the American government developed a plan to eradicate the First Nations roots, buying into the philosophy of Captain Richard H. Pratt when he stated that instead of killing all the Natives it would be of more use to kill the Indian, and save the man ( Kill ). The children were forced to leave behind their original religion and properly observe the Sabbath every Sunday ( Rules 53). Also the children were taught to enjoy the games of the young white children rather than being able to play the games of their childhood ( Rules 54). These policies assimilated the children of the First Nations by giving them a new Americanized way of thought based on a Christian Anglo Saxon view of the world and bestowing upon them an Americanized outward appearance by teaching them to play, act, and dress like white American children. However, the new Americanized outward appearance stripped the Indian children of their individuality and cultural identity. Two historians that have questioned the legitimacy of past beliefs regarding the Indians are Charles Mann and James Axtell. Unfortunately, in the end all the planning and trickery in the world couldn t have saved the Indians as they were just simply outnumbered and technologically inferior to the Europeans. James Axtell wrote the article entitled, Colonial America Without the Indians and it goes into extreme detail to pinpoint the impact that the Indians had on American history. For example, America may not have been settled as quickly if not for the Indians because explorers wouldn t have known of the hidden gold and silver deposits, many early settlements would likely have failed without knowledge and support from the Indians, and guerilla warfare was practically taught to the Americans by the Indians and became a central piece in the winning of the American Revolution. The second poem I ve chosen is Lament, one of the main things suggested by the poem is the use of for the in the start of every single sentence, the words for the show the remembrance of all of the people, animals etc. that were sadly affected by the Gulf War. This feature is in a way dedicated to all of the soldiers, birds, oceans and all of the other wildlife that were affected by the war, Lament also means a passionate expression of grief and sorrow At the end of the first stanza for her eggs laid in their nest of sickness the use of this metaphor allows one of the main purposes, which is the effect of the war on the environment. The book emphasizes on manifest destiny and gender roles that it plays during this time. Greenburg focuses on real life people and politics for her readers. She specifically does that by using stories from newspapers, journals, diaries, letters, books, and more. Greenburg wrote this book to show the American progress. At this time, America has just came out of the Mexican American war. She wants the readers to know how America was still expanding. The ruling was a monumental one for multiple reasons. Firstly, it was a major step in the Civil Rights Movement as it ended the legal use of separate but equal facilities, under the ruling that this violated the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause. It gave African Americans access to better schools, and also gave them a greater sense of dignity as they no longer could be legally forced to drink from different fountains or sit in separate sections. He, like Thomas, argued that law s purpose it to benefit society by creating a morally sound order to human action and conduct. He detailed seven goods that he believed to be intrinsic and universal, and argued that laws should be enforced under the stipulation that they adhere to the enhancement of these goods, because they are what determines a fulfilling life. They are: life, knowledge, play, aesthetic experience, sociability, practical reasonableness, and religion. The goods that relate to the thesis of this paper the most are knowledge and sociability, as the result of the case has a direct benefit on them and is, therefore, moral and legitimate. Legal positivists, however, disagree that morality has any place in determining what legitimate law is. H. L. A. Hart based much of his theory on the previous legal positivist John Austin s work. Austin believed that laws obtain their legitimacy from the recognition of a society s members in the authority of their unruled ruler. This unruled entity that enforces laws with the backing of sanctions, is what Austin terms the sovereign. He believed that in order for a sovereign to exist it had to be habitually complied with by those it governs. What separates Austin s theory from natural law theories is that he did not believe that laws had to be created or followed on the basis of morality. According to Austin s ... • 58. Feminism In The Scarlett Letter Feminism in the Scarlet Letter According to Merriam Webster Dictionary the word feminism means the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes . In a way the Scarlett Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, portrays its main protagonist, Hester Prynne, as a poster child for early feminism. Throughout the story Hester is slandered and shunned upon about committing the sin of adultery. As the story continues we see the character of Hester evolve from a timid, shameful human being into a confident, strong woman. With Hester facing the hardships of making a living for herself, singlehandedly raising a child, and changing Puritansocial norms one can conclude that the Scarlett Letter is an early piece of feministic literature. As a women in early American society, women usually didn t play the role of the breadwinner in the household, but Hester was an exception. Hester made quite a name for herself in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, for her elegant work she produces with a needle and a thread. Even though, Hester was the outcast of the town, her work was still seen on the ruff of the Governor; military men wore it on their scarfs, and the minister on his band; it decked the baby s little cap; it was shut up, to be mildewed and moulder away, in the coffins of the dead. (Hawthorne 124). Hester s perseverance and work ethic helped her financially get by and provide from her family, during a time where women were even less accounted for. Hester did what even possible to make sure her family was able to survive, she put in as many hours as she saw fit to occupy with her needle (Hawthorne 124). Clearly Hester has pushed the social barriers that society as imprisoned her in for years and shattered them into pieces by making a living for herself, in a society where it is highly unlikely for a women of her status to accomplish, especially for a person who has an reputation like hers. Day after day, Hester is reminded of the reason of her exile from her previous, everyday life. Hester was an adulteress, and with that sin came a child. Singlehandedly, Hester had to raise this child, without a any moral, financial support. Often in times breaking down into tears talking to the heavens asking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
