Analyze the security mechanisms needed to protect the DMS systems from both state employees and
users accessing over the internet:
Department of Management Services (DMS) has chosen to expand their applications and services via
TCP/IP and Internet access. DMS uses a widely used proprietary scheme: IBM s Systems Network
Architecture (SNA) which provides support for TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet
Protocol). SNA architecture is projected to remain important for some years to come. Implementing
standardized protocol architectures allow DMS ongoing communication with suppliers, ... Show more

Thus, all distributed applications, including remote logon, client/server, email, file transfer, Web
access, and so on, can be secured (Stallings, 2009). Finally, Stallings (2009) has noted, another
relatively general purpose solution is to implement security just above TCP by using Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL) and the follow on Internet standard Transport Layer Security (TLS). For full generality,
SSL, (TLS) could be provided as part of the underlying protocol suite and therefore be transparent to
applications. Alternatively, SSL can be embedded in specific packages.
Critique the transition process performed by the DMS in the case study. Then, recommend two (2)
alternatives to the IP Infrastructure or applications not already mentioned in the case study: By the
early 1990s, the Florida department of management services (DMS) had built up a large information
systems network that serve state government agencies in 10 regional sites and connected these to the
data center in Tallahassee. The network was based on the use of the proprietary systems network
architecture (SNA) from IBM and mainframe at the data center that housed most of the applications.
Although relatively happy with the SNA application and services by providing TCP/IP capability and
internet access. The goal was met in a remarkably short time. Over the course of 30 months, DMS
built a statewide TCP/IP network, began

Public School Choice Essay
Public School Choice
Public School Choice is an easy program to understand and it contains many advantages but also
many disadvantages. Public School Choice is when parents can elect to send their children out of a
school that has not made adequate yearly progress for two consecutive years into a school that has
made progress. (McClure, 2002) If there are no available schools within the original school district,
then a family can choose to send their children to another district. This only happens when the other
schools in the original district are all labeled as underachieving schools and have not made the
adequate yearly progress. (McClure, 2002)
Some of the advantages to this new public school choice option include: offers ... Show more content

Official from Milwaukee school and local policy groups, where public school choice has been an
option, confirmed what most observers have assumed: that having options with in the public school
system is intensely popular with parents (Van Dunk, 2003) Some people do not believe there can be
such a thing as public school choice. For it to be actual school choice and in order for it to succeed it
has to include private schools. (Jeynes, 2000) These are just a few facts and some issues that are
controversial around the Public School Choice option.
School Vouchers
School Vouchers are another popular form of school choice. Vouchers are scholarships that let students
attend a school of their parent s choice. The vouchers are given out to low income parents who are
below the 175% poverty line. A voucher can be used a private school. Schools redeem the vouchers
given to them by students, and in return receive government funding. Publicly funded vouchers have
been used for decades in New Hampshire, and Maine, also in the two cities: Cleveland, Ohio and
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Ellig, 1999) Harvard economist Caroline M. Hoxby investigated the impact
of vouchers on public schools in Milwaukee. Her peer reviewed conclusion: Overall, an evaluation of
Milwaukee suggests that public schools have a strong, positive response to competition

The Progressive Era Of The Gilded Age
With change comes consequences. Industrialization of the United States had indirectly tarnished the
Gilded Age, and now that this era was coming to an end, reformers were left to clean up the mess.
Hence, the Progressive era was born. The Progressive movement was based in the urban middle class
and focused on the improvement of society, the economy, and politics. Yet, the movement was not
unified. Each reform group of the era had a separate goal that they would focus on. Each president
also had a separate vision of national reform. Presidents like Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard
Taft, and Woodrow Wilson were particularly influential when it came to reform, but each had a
specific idea of which reforms should be instated and which should be ignored. Disunity in the
Progressive Era hindered its overall effectiveness, allowing specific reform groups focused on
democracy to gradually cross social, economic, and political barriers while others failed unite the
nation behind their cause.
The emergence of trusts during the Gilded Age had led to poor working conditions, child labor,
nativism, and poor consumer protection. To combat the trusts, reformers called for expansion of the
federal government. If the federal government was to be more powerful than the trusts, then the trusts
could be put down. Roosevelt was elected in 1900 starting off the Progressive era with a trust buster.
Monopolies were at the center of economic corruption. In 1903 the Bureau of Corporations was

Close your eyes and imagine the excitement and adventure of finding a mystery that involves many

According to Sullivan they found a heavy flat olive tinged stone about two feet long, fifteen inches
wide and ten inches thick set in its center. It was inscribed with strange markings (4). Along with the
treasure they also managed to trigger a booby trap that flooded the Money Pit and no matter what they
did they couldn t drain the water and they finally ended up broke and disheartened. According to
Activeminds.com forty five years later another group called the Truro Company took a turn at trying
to excavate the Money Pit, but they too met with flooding and found that there were underground
flood tunnels that were shaped like a fingers and were engineered by people of great cunning and skill.
The tunnels automatically filled with water from the Atlantic Ocean as soon as anyone dug it to 90
feet or beyond. People have tried to blast it, bulldoze it, and try syphoning the water out by using
pumps, but all efforts were meet with defeat ( Treasure: Oak Island ). In 1850 the Truro Company that
was trying to excavate Oak Island and get the water out of the pits found out that the beach known as
Smith s cove was actually artificial and was causing the Money pit and all surrounding holes to flood.
The Truro Company goes broke and gives up and the quest is taken on by a new group. As the years

What Is The Topic Of The Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
Malcolm Gladwell makes many debatable claims in his book The Outliers . One of these controversial
topics is brought up in chapter three when he talks about a person s IQ and how that relates to one s
success. After reading Outliers I believe that this is the most controversial topic. I agree with Malcolm
Gladwell because there are a lot of people who are not really smart that are very successful, success
can be viewed differently by different people, and by my own experiences on the U High soccer team.
There are tons of people in our world today who have become very successful and these people find
success in different ways. Some people work hard their whole life to achieve success and others just

To someone who wants to be an expert in a certain field that a Termite was also in would consider that
person extremely successful. However, somebody who is aspiring to become a professional football or
soccer player would look at them and say, Who cares? . They would look at a famous football or
soccer player and see them as incredibly successful. This is because every person has their own
definition of success that is specific to themselves and it is based around their hopes and desires in
their own life. In fact for some of these people who s definition of success is something that doesn t
require a high IQ, they can be successful in their own eyes while having a lower IQ. For example,
Lebron James, debatably the best, most successful player that the NBA has ever seen, went straight
from high school to the NBA, skipping college. Someone who I define as successful is my father. My
dad was born in Springfield Illinois, the youngest of four children. His parents both worked but they
did not live comfortably. The house that they lived in was cramped and but he liked it. Tom worked
hard in high school and college, double majoring in business and technology. Now he works in a
managing position at state farm and makes enough money to easily support himself and his family of
three kids and a wife. I define him as successful because he has a good job, a good family, and he is
happy with where he is at life. That is because those are things that I aspire to have at some point in

Varying Interpretations of Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now
The true meaning of varying interpretations comes alive when one compares the two film versions of
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now have the same basic
outline and underlying themes, however the plots, characters, settings, time, purposes, and points of
view differ enough to create two extremely different effects and two entirely opposite movies. Both
movies depict an insanity: of man in Heart of Darkness and of war in Apocalypse Now. It is ironic that
Heart of Darkness, the movie replica of the novel, is a boring, slow paced flop of a production, while
Apocalypse Now, a loosely based film, had great success and audience ... Show more content on

Marlow watches Kurtz die and whisper his last words, The horror! The horror! Marlow returns home
to visit Kurtz s fiancé and, instead of telling her that Kurtz went crazy in the jungle, he upholds her
belief that Kurtz was a great man. The story flashes back to present time where the Nellie is sailing
away into the heart of darkness (Heart of Darkness: Theme/Symbol/Allusion/Foreshadow).
The similarities between the novel and movie versions of Heart of Darkness are numerous, right down
to exact quotations, costumes, and scenes. In the opening scene, Marlow describes his expedition into
the Congo as the farthest point of navigation and the culminating point of my experience exactly as in
the book (Conrad 70). The movie accurately depicts the women knitting black wool and the colored
map with the snake like river as Conrad vividly describes them (pp. 73 74). The mood of the scene
when Marlow and his crew finally approach Kurtz s Inner Station is also well depicted with the foggy
air, the noises in the forest (p. 110), the fighting of the crew members (pp. 110 114), the eyes hiding in
the bushes (p.114), the swarm of arrows that attack the boat and kill Mfumu, (pp. 119 120) and the
cannibals falling from the trees after Mfumu is thrown overboard (p. 124). The mental image of Kurtz
that Conrad portrays in his physical and emotional description is also shown suitably in the

Why Is Beowulf So Famous
The story Beowulf takes place of some interesting things. In this story you will meet many different
and interesting people. This book is very fun to read. Scyld of Scefing the first king of the Danes and
great grandfather to Hrothgar. Scefing was a very brave king. Hrothgar was also a really barve king.
He has been giving to the people since his dad was alive. The main reason Hrothgar was so famous is
because he built a mead hall. He named that mead hall Heorot. This mead hall attracted so many
people. Grendel was the beast that attacked the mead hall. One night while everyone was celebrating
the mead hall and singing about God and how God created the world, Grendel got mad. Grendel is

Notes On Australian Investment Fund Management Essay
Australian investment fund managers are highly active within the financial services sector. They
handle high volumes of financial services on behalf of clients and firms in terms of aggregate assets
under management and fund manager related trading activities on the Australian Stock Exchange
(ASX). According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2016), the size of the Australian investment
management industry was in excess of $2,700 billion at 31 June 2016. As noted within the firm, the
fund managers can adopt two competing fund strategies (Passive versus Active management). Active
managers attempt to outperform a passive (or information less) market index through the
accumulation and combination of price sensitive information (Gallagher Looi, 2011, p. 206). This
essay will examine and evaluate the arguments for and against active fund management and suggest a
recommendation for the future direction of the firm.
The application of the zero sum game is the underlying theory behind how the Australian share market
and majority of investment markets work (Malkiel, 2013, p. 101). This theory states that at any given
time, there are a variety of cumulative invested funds, each of these funds cannot provide a positive
return and instead the proportion that outperform to those that underperform the benchmark is 50%
(Vanguard, 2016). As the market return consist of the average return of all investors, for a certain
proportion that outperforms the market, there must be a specific

On February 28, 1993, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms launched a raid on the Davidian

However, while the siege was over, it was not forgotten. On April 19, 1995, two years after the fire
that killed so many people, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols planted a bomb that killed 168
people, injured more than 680 people, and whose blast destroyed or damaged 324 buildings within a
sixteen block radius of Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Motivated
by his hatred of the government and the outrage he felt about the Waco Siege in 1993, McVeigh
decided to time his attack for the second anniversary of the deadly fire. Forensic evidence linked both
men to the attack. On June 11, 2001, McVeigh was executed by lethal injection and Nichols was
sentenced to life in prison in 2004. The Oklahoma City Bombing was the worst terrorist attack on

Advantages Of Adversarial Legal System
The origin of the adversarial legal system is very blurry and vague, but the system has been around
quite a while and approaches to handle criminal proceeding in a totally opposite method, compared to
the inquisitorial legal system. Before discussing the effectiveness and the advantages of a adversarial
legal system, it is a good idea to understand the system. Adversarial legal system began in England
with common law, and most countries with common law usually tend to follow the adversarial legal
system but some countries based on civil law like France, and the Netherlands follow the inquisitorial
legal system (). The main difference between the two systems is the role of judge, in an inquisitorial
legal system the judge is more involves with the case but in the adversarial legal system the judge s
role gets reduced to a neutral third party only to just hear the case, presented by the prosecutor and
defense attorney. In Canada our legal system is based around common law and hence resulting in our
adversarial legal system, the system is incredibly effective and features many advantages when
compared to its counterpart the inquisitorial system. The key elements which allow the adversarial
system to be effective are the role judge, fair opportunity for both defendant and prosecutor to present
their case while their rights being protected, and finally the introduction of the restorative justice.
The Role of the judge in an adversarial system is its greatest strength when

Ap Euro Dbq French Revolution Calendar
The French Revolution inspired the desire for change and freedom from oppression. Being limited by
the Roman Catholic Church and government was no longer ideal, resulting in many new proposals. Of
these proposals was the notion of wanting to change the Gregorian calendar to a new and non religious
calendar, the Revolutionary calendar. This calendar was made strictly on reasons aimed to improve
France and change previous rituals. With the new system of different months and days, the adoption of
the calendar stimulated controversy between supporters of it and the opposition. Those in favor of the
calendar argued that in order to fully break away from the old customs of France and the church, there
must be a reform in all former things. This includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new calendar should not have changed because everyone was already used to the system of the
Gregorian calendar. Making a new calendar will confuse many and throw off schedules of customary
practices (Document 2). Abbe Sieyes responded with this because he was a clergyman who supported
the National Assembly, meaning that the new calendar could consequently result in hardships for the
lower class, which went against what Sieyes fought for. Adding onto this, the people of the lower class
will have a harder time with the new ten days in a week. Working nine out of ten of those days doing
hard labor is vigorous work that required all of their time. A peasant at this time would hate the
Revolutionary calendar because having only one day to take a break is not enough for one to fully
regenerate themselves after constant weeks of labor (Document 4). In addition, this calendar upset
many because it was imposed on the people by force, no one previously had a problem with the
Gregorian calendar (Document 5). Also, images of spiritual related objects will constantly be seen and
since the people were accustomed to religion, practices and traditions will never fade away (Document
6). Being a government official who resides in a French town will have first hand view of the rituals
among the people and will notice that the new calendar system is flawed. It was only a matter of time

Behavioral and neurobiological changes in C57BL/6 mice exposed to cuprizone.
C57BL/6 mice were given 0.2% cuprizone (CPZ) for 2 to 6 weeks while controls ate the same diet
without CPZ. At various time points the animals were subjected to behavioral tests and their brains

prepulse inhibition, suggesting an increase in central nervous system activity and impaired
sensorimotor gating. In addition, they showed lower activities of monoamine oxidase and dopamine

These studies suggest a role for oligodendrocytes and brain demyelination in the pathophysiology of
schizophrenia.
To examine the putative role of oligodendrocytes in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, animal
studies are essential. Among possible animal models, the cuprizone (CPZ) induced demyelination in
C57BL/6 mice appear to be highly promising and deserving of close scrutiny. CPZ is a copper
chelator and has been shown to specifically damage the myelin sheath and oligodendrocytes, but not
to cause lesions in other cell types in the central nervous system (CNS; Matsushima Morell, 2001;
Remington, Babcock, Zehntner, Owens, 2007; Selvaraju et al., 2004). Also, CPZ was shown to have
no effects on peripheral nerves (Komoly, 2005). Moreover, demyelinated animals on a CPZ diet
showed reduced running performance on the training wheels and this was even more pronounced
when these mice were subsequently exposed to the complex wheels (Liebetanz Merkler, 2006). More
recently, other behavioral changes have been described in C57BL/6 mice treated with CPZ. It was
reported that at 3 and 4 weeks of 0.2% CPZ treatment, the animals exhibited an increase in CNS
activity and a reduced anxiety response to a novelty challenge test. At 5 weeks of treatment
equilibrium was altered and sensorimotor reactivity was also affected (Franco Pons, Torrente,

War is a huge part of world history and will always be a part of people s lives. War has been conveyed
in many different ways such as books, songs, poetry and movies. Some of these representations create
a positive picture of war and others give more of a negative depiction which challenges us to question
the value of warfare. The novel composed by Erich Maria Remarque All Quiet on The Western Front
(AQOTWF) and the poem I Was Only 19 by John Schumann characterises the same experiences of
war. Both composers use various language techniques and descriptions to highlight the impact of war

Arguments In Favor Of Conscription In Canada
Of all the political battles of Canada in the early 20th century, none can be matched by the conflict
over conscription that occurred in 1917. Although there was significant opposition to conscription, it
was a necessary and ultimately beneficial measure for Canada.
The first major argument in favor of conscription is that of military necessity: in 1917 the Canada
losing the war. The eastern front was disintegrating, the French army was on the brink of mutiny and
the US had yet to enter the war in force. To allied military planners, it was clear that conscription was
necessary to replace the casualties on the front line and allow Canada to continue fighting in 1918 and
1919: without a decisive effort on the part of all allied nations, the German spring offensives of 1918
could have resulted in a loss for the allies. Canada was also one of the only nations that had not
implemented conscription by 1917: almost all allied powers had done so in order to fight the war.
Even though in hindsight conscription was not the main cause of allied victory in 1918, given the
information at the time it would be reasonable to assume that it would be needed. ... Show more

Effect Of Religion In Art History
Cause and Effect of Religion in Art History
Ryan Hernandez
Lamar Community College Abstract
Religion is everywhere and it has made its impact on human life. It has changed the way humans
think, act, and live. Artists during the renaissance era gravitated to do more paintings about their own
beliefs. This paper will explain how different artists have different beliefs and different ways of
expressing themselves.
Finding what is important is significant to artists and architects. Religion became very important to

People all had to worship in a private home until the early fourth century A.D. Constantine made
Christianity legally protected from persecution and it soon became the religion of the Roman Empire.
The large and fast growing Christian community needed new buildings to accommodate them, so they
started building Roman basilicas. The Roman basilica became the basis for architects to design new
churches. With Constantine s support, many churches were constructed throughout the Roman
Empire. Christianity also inspired centrally planned churches. These are round churches that radiated
around from a central point and was topped off with a dome. Christianity did not only change religion,
but it changed architecture as well. In the fifth century, emperor Justinian recaptured the Roman

pertaining to a temperature scale that registers the freezing point of water as 32 F and the boiling point
as 212 F under standard atmospheric pressure (Sorel 99). But the word fahrenheit, itself has its history
of its creation, and was named after a physicist engineer, named Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. Fahrenheit
would soon change the world of measuring.
Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit was born on Danzig, Germany in 1869. He was one of Concordia and
Daniel Schumann Fahrenheit s five children. He was the oldest amongst his two brothers and three
sisters, whom all survived throughout their childhood. Fahrenheit s mother was the daughter of a well
known Danzig business family (Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit Biography ) . His father was a wealthy
merchant, and therefore his family was a merchant family, they in several Hanseatic cities . According
to the book Word People by Nancy Sorel, at the age of fifteen, both of his parents suddenly died from
eating poisonous mushrooms on August 14, 1701 (Sorel 99). His guardian sent him to Amsterdam,
Netherlands to study business, where he spent most of his life.

10 years ago, its looks completely different. Due to the small business being foreclosed, we are not
turning into very healthy downtown. But the stores that we still have we need to take advantage of
them because you never know how long they will be there for. Rural areas through the country are
facing the triple threat, the biggest defeat that can ever happen. Triple threat consist of three of the

small business owners, farmers and ranchers, and communities, that they aren t the only ones facing

Safety Of The Hpv Vaccine Essay
Safety of the HPV Vaccine There have been concerns about the safety of the HPV vaccines. In Basu s
(2013) article they reviewed the evidence from the phase III trials and national programs for the HPV
vaccine. After reviewing the data though the article showed that all the randomized control trials
reported both their serious and non serious adverse events that took place during the phase III trials.
There were 20,000 participants in the trial (p.4). Pain at the injection site, headache, and fatigue were
the most frequently reported issues. The serious adverse effects were very rare so the vaccine was
considered safe. When reviewing the safety data from the national programs in Australia there were
millions of doses given out and the most adverse side effects there were anaphylactic and allergic
reactions, and these were not seen as any more dangerous than it is for other vaccines. In the US about
40 million doses were given out and among the reports that were received by the Vaccine Adverse
Event Reporting System which totaled 20,096 only 8% of these reports were actually were considered
serious (p.5). All the reports were reviewed and could not find any adverse events that occurred that
could be ascribed to the vaccine. In the UK they reviewed the vaccine two years after it came out and
concluded it to be safe. Reviewing the data from all three counties in the national programs showed
that none of the deaths that occurred could be linked to the vaccine. So both the

In relation to concussions, the NFL players have to be knowledgeable of all the risks involved.
Because they were not fully made aware of the risks of concussion, because of lack of information,
assumption of risk does not apply. The athletes are however, partially to blame for contributing to their

The league is still cautious in accepting the risks of concussions, but has slowly implemented new rule

Inner City Schools Vs Boarding Schools Essay
Based on the video, it is clear that the SEED school is a great institute that offers an amazing
opportunity to inner city children. Most inner city students do not graduate from high school or even
have a chance to pursue a higher education due to the detrimental public school systems located in
cities. Children who are more privileged have the option of attending boarding schools that provide an
exceptional education for students. However, these private or boarding schools have an astronomical
price tag associated with them. Unfortunately, a majority of inner city students who have the potential
to do great things cannot afford to attend these institutions. As a result, they are unfairly subjected to
the caustic education of inner city public schools. With the SEED school, however, these students are
given the chance to attend a boarding school that provides an effective education and meets a higher
standard for learning. What makes the SEED school so great is that the cost of tuition is free, allowing
students from poor households to attend. Moreover, the affordability of this school does not interfere
with the quality of education. Even though students are paying nothing to attend, they still receive a
very rigorous curriculum and have access to numerous resources.

Forensic Evidence And Criminal Investigation
Every criminal investigation starts off the same way: A crime was committed, someone informs the
police, law enforcement shows up, secures the crime scene and they start the investigation. There are
steps taken in every investigation. Police interview witnesses, check surveillance, interrogate suspects;
however, one of the most important steps is the collection and analysis of evidence. According to the
Encyclopedia of Criminology (2014), forensic evidence refers to the verbal statements and physical
items presented to a neutral fact finder in the court of law that assist him or her in rendering a verdict
(Vandenberg, 2014). In simple terms, it is anything offered to a court to demonstrate if the suspect on
trial is guilt or innocent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third stage is retrieval, which is the information that the witness recalls in his or her statements.
Any problems at any of these stages can have implications for the validity of the eyewitness testimony
(Vandenberg, 2014).
Scholars have revealed that wrongful convictions are more often based on inaccurate eyewitness
identifications that on other types of evidence (Vandenberg, 2014). Researchers also estimated that
between 50% and 90% of wrongfully convicted individuals who were later exonerated by DNA
evidence were initially found guilty and sentenced on the basis of eyewitness testimony (Vandenberg,
2014). If eyewitness testimony can be unreliable, why then keep using it for convictions? Steps can be
taken to increase the accuracy of eyewitness recollections. For example, there is a guide called
Eyewitness Evidence that was developed by psychology researchers, law enforcement personnel,
prosecutors, and defense attorneys. The guide lays out standardized protocols for retrieving eyewitness
accounts (Vandenberg, 2014). These guidelines help ensure the investigator that the testimony they
obtain will be as accurate and as reliable as possible (Vandenberg, 2014).
Physical evidence refers to any material that is obtained from tangible objects such as fingerprints,
clothing, hairs, fibers, documents, and food items (Vandenberg, 2014). It is only used in about 20% of
all criminal cases (Vandenberg, 2014). The most known physical evidence is DNA. DNA has become

The demand for Thorntons boxed chocolates follows a strongly seasonal pattern: 35 percent of sales
are in the seven week period before Christmas, a further 10 percent are for Easter, including three
million Easter eggs. The combination of providing a fresh product together with the need to meet a
seasonal pattern of demand places particular pressures upon the company s manufacturing facilities. A
proportion of the Christmas product is produced several months in advance, maintaining freshness
through chilled storage. However, Thorntons chocolates are enrobed in chocolate, rather than
moulded. Their hand made appearance makes the process of packing boxed chocolates less open to
automation than is the case for moulded chocolates (with their more uniform shape an size) produced
by companies such as Cadburys. The seasonal demand for packing staff requires the increased use of
casual workers, with consequent falls in efficiency. Seasonal demand also requires the use of
temporary staff in the retail outlets to meet a sales pattern that can within a few days increase tenfold;
typically the company sells £10m of chocolate in the last 72 hours of Christmas trading. At times the
company has sold icecream (self manufactured or bought in) as an attempt to offset the effect of low,
off season, chocolate sales. In certain respects Thorntons strategy, with its

father at home, to go to school, stay with family and play with friends. The parents said the client s
behaviours included clinging on to them and chasing after them as they were leaving the house or
school. He would also check their location in the house to confirm that they were still there. On

DMS uses a widely used proprietary scheme: IBM s Systems Network Architecture (SNA) which provides support for TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). SNA architecture is projected to remain important for some years to come. Implementing standardized protocol architectures allow DMS ongoing communication with suppliers, ... Finally, Stallings (2009) has noted, another relatively general purpose solution is to implement security just above TCP by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and the follow on Internet standard Transport Layer Security (TLS). For full generality, SSL, (TLS) could be provided as part of the underlying protocol suite and therefore be transparent to applications. Alternatively, SSL can be embedded in specific packages. Critique the transition process performed by the DMS in the case study. Then, recommend two (2) alternatives to the IP Infrastructure or applications not already mentioned in the case study: By the early 1990s, the Florida department of management services (DMS) had built up a large information systems network that serve state government agencies in 10 regional sites and connected these to the data center in Tallahassee. The network was based on the use of the proprietary systems network architecture (SNA) from IBM and mainframe at the data center that housed most of the applications. Although relatively happy with the SNA application and services by providing TCP/IP capability and internet access. The goal was met in a remarkably short time. Over the course of 30 months, DMS built a statewide TCP/IP network, began ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Public School Choice Essay Public School Choice Public School Choice is an easy program to understand and it contains many advantages but also many disadvantages. Public School Choice is when parents can elect to send their children out of a school that has not made adequate yearly progress for two consecutive years into a school that has made progress. (McClure, 2002) If there are no available schools within the original school district, then a family can choose to send their children to another district. This only happens when the other schools in the original district are all labeled as underachieving schools and have not made the adequate yearly progress. Official from Milwaukee school and local policy groups, where public school choice has been an option, confirmed what most observers have assumed: that having options with in the public school system is intensely popular with parents (Van Dunk, 2003) Some people do not believe there can be such a thing as public school choice. For it to be actual school choice and in order for it to succeed it has to include private schools. (Jeynes, 2000) These are just a few facts and some issues that are controversial around the Public School Choice option. School Vouchers School Vouchers are another popular form of school choice. Vouchers are scholarships that let students attend a school of their parent s choice. The vouchers are given out to low income parents who are below the 175% poverty line. A voucher can be used a private school. Schools redeem the vouchers given to them by students, and in return receive government funding. Publicly funded vouchers have been used for decades in New Hampshire, and Maine, also in the two cities: Cleveland, Ohio and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Ellig, 1999) Harvard economist Caroline M. • 4. The Progressive Era Of The Gilded Age With change comes consequences. Industrialization of the United States had indirectly tarnished the Gilded Age, and now that this era was coming to an end, reformers were left to clean up the mess. Hence, the Progressive era was born. The Progressive movement was based in the urban middle class and focused on the improvement of society, the economy, and politics. Yet, the movement was not unified. Each reform group of the era had a separate goal that they would focus on. Each president also had a separate vision of national reform. Presidents like Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson were particularly influential when it came to reform, but each had a specific idea of which reforms should be instated and which should be ignored. Disunity in the Progressive Era hindered its overall effectiveness, allowing specific reform groups focused on democracy to gradually cross social, economic, and political barriers while others failed unite the nation behind their cause. The emergence of trusts during the Gilded Age had led to poor working conditions, child labor, nativism, and poor consumer protection. To combat the trusts, reformers called for expansion of the federal government. If the federal government was to be more powerful than the trusts, then the trusts could be put down. Roosevelt was elected in 1900 starting off the Progressive era with a trust buster. Monopolies were at the center of economic corruption. In 1903 the Bureau of Corporations was ... According to Sullivan they found a heavy flat olive tinged stone about two feet long, fifteen inches wide and ten inches thick set in its center. It was inscribed with strange markings (4). Along with the treasure they also managed to trigger a booby trap that flooded the Money Pit and no matter what they did they couldn t drain the water and they finally ended up broke and disheartened. According to Activeminds.com forty five years later another group called the Truro Company took a turn at trying to excavate the Money Pit, but they too met with flooding and found that there were underground flood tunnels that were shaped like a fingers and were engineered by people of great cunning and skill. The tunnels automatically filled with water from the Atlantic Ocean as soon as anyone dug it to 90 feet or beyond. People have tried to blast it, bulldoze it, and try syphoning the water out by using pumps, but all efforts were meet with defeat ( Treasure: Oak Island ). In 1850 the Truro Company that was trying to excavate Oak Island and get the water out of the pits found out that the beach known as Smith s cove was actually artificial and was causing the Money pit and all surrounding holes to flood. • 6. What Is The Topic Of The Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell Malcolm Gladwell makes many debatable claims in his book The Outliers . One of these controversial topics is brought up in chapter three when he talks about a person s IQ and how that relates to one s success. After reading Outliers I believe that this is the most controversial topic. I agree with Malcolm Gladwell because there are a lot of people who are not really smart that are very successful, success can be viewed differently by different people, and by my own experiences on the U High soccer team. There are tons of people in our world today who have become very successful and these people find success in different ways. To someone who wants to be an expert in a certain field that a Termite was also in would consider that person extremely successful. However, somebody who is aspiring to become a professional football or soccer player would look at them and say, Who cares? . They would look at a famous football or soccer player and see them as incredibly successful. This is because every person has their own definition of success that is specific to themselves and it is based around their hopes and desires in their own life. In fact for some of these people who s definition of success is something that doesn t require a high IQ, they can be successful in their own eyes while having a lower IQ. For example, Lebron James, debatably the best, most successful player that the NBA has ever seen, went straight from high school to the NBA, skipping college. Someone who I define as successful is my father. My dad was born in Springfield Illinois, the youngest of four children. His parents both worked but they did not live comfortably. The house that they lived in was cramped and but he liked it. Tom worked hard in high school and college, double majoring in business and technology. Now he works in a managing position at state farm and makes enough money to easily support himself and his family of three kids and a wife. I define him as successful because he has a good job, a good family, and he is happy with where he is at life. That is because those are things that I aspire to have at some point in my ... • 7. Varying Interpretations of Heart of Darkness and... Varying Interpretations of Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now The true meaning of varying interpretations comes alive when one compares the two film versions of Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now have the same basic outline and underlying themes, however the plots, characters, settings, time, purposes, and points of view differ enough to create two extremely different effects and two entirely opposite movies. Both movies depict an insanity: of man in Heart of Darkness and of war in Apocalypse Now. It is ironic that Heart of Darkness, the movie replica of the novel, is a boring, slow paced flop of a production, while Apocalypse Now, a loosely based film, had great success and audience ... Marlow returns home to visit Kurtz s fiancé and, instead of telling her that Kurtz went crazy in the jungle, he upholds her belief that Kurtz was a great man. The story flashes back to present time where the Nellie is sailing away into the heart of darkness (Heart of Darkness: Theme/Symbol/Allusion/Foreshadow). The similarities between the novel and movie versions of Heart of Darkness are numerous, right down to exact quotations, costumes, and scenes. In the opening scene, Marlow describes his expedition into the Congo as the farthest point of navigation and the culminating point of my experience exactly as in the book (Conrad 70). The movie accurately depicts the women knitting black wool and the colored map with the snake like river as Conrad vividly describes them (pp. 73 74). The mood of the scene when Marlow and his crew finally approach Kurtz s Inner Station is also well depicted with the foggy air, the noises in the forest (p. 110), the fighting of the crew members (pp. 110 114), the eyes hiding in the bushes (p.114), the swarm of arrows that attack the boat and kill Mfumu, (pp. 119 120) and the cannibals falling from the trees after Mfumu is thrown overboard (p. 124). They handle high volumes of financial services on behalf of clients and firms in terms of aggregate assets under management and fund manager related trading activities on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX). According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2016), the size of the Australian investment management industry was in excess of $2,700 billion at 31 June 2016. As noted within the firm, the fund managers can adopt two competing fund strategies (Passive versus Active management). Active managers attempt to outperform a passive (or information less) market index through the accumulation and combination of price sensitive information (Gallagher Looi, 2011, p. 206). This essay will examine and evaluate the arguments for and against active fund management and suggest a recommendation for the future direction of the firm. The application of the zero sum game is the underlying theory behind how the Australian share market and majority of investment markets work (Malkiel, 2013, p. 101). This theory states that at any given time, there are a variety of cumulative invested funds, each of these funds cannot provide a positive return and instead the proportion that outperform to those that underperform the benchmark is 50% (Vanguard, 2016). As the market return consist of the average return of all investors, for a certain proportion that outperforms the market, there must be a specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Branch Davidians are a religious group that resulted from a breakoff in the Davidian Seventh day Adventist Church in 1955. • 11. Advantages Of Adversarial Legal System The origin of the adversarial legal system is very blurry and vague, but the system has been around quite a while and approaches to handle criminal proceeding in a totally opposite method, compared to the inquisitorial legal system. Before discussing the effectiveness and the advantages of a adversarial legal system, it is a good idea to understand the system. Adversarial legal system began in England with common law, and most countries with common law usually tend to follow the adversarial legal system but some countries based on civil law like France, and the Netherlands follow the inquisitorial legal system (). The main difference between the two systems is the role of judge, in an inquisitorial legal system the judge is more involves with the case but in the adversarial legal system the judge s role gets reduced to a neutral third party only to just hear the case, presented by the prosecutor and defense attorney. In Canada our legal system is based around common law and hence resulting in our adversarial legal system, the system is incredibly effective and features many advantages when compared to its counterpart the inquisitorial system. The key elements which allow the adversarial system to be effective are the role judge, fair opportunity for both defendant and prosecutor to present their case while their rights being protected, and finally the introduction of the restorative justice. Being limited by the Roman Catholic Church and government was no longer ideal, resulting in many new proposals. Of these proposals was the notion of wanting to change the Gregorian calendar to a new and non religious calendar, the Revolutionary calendar. This calendar was made strictly on reasons aimed to improve France and change previous rituals. With the new system of different months and days, the adoption of the calendar stimulated controversy between supporters of it and the opposition. Those in favor of the calendar argued that in order to fully break away from the old customs of France and the church, there must be a reform in all former things. This includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The new calendar should not have changed because everyone was already used to the system of the Gregorian calendar. Making a new calendar will confuse many and throw off schedules of customary practices (Document 2). Abbe Sieyes responded with this because he was a clergyman who supported the National Assembly, meaning that the new calendar could consequently result in hardships for the lower class, which went against what Sieyes fought for. Adding onto this, the people of the lower class will have a harder time with the new ten days in a week. Working nine out of ten of those days doing hard labor is vigorous work that required all of their time. A peasant at this time would hate the Revolutionary calendar because having only one day to take a break is not enough for one to fully regenerate themselves after constant weeks of labor (Document 4). In addition, this calendar upset many because it was imposed on the people by force, no one previously had a problem with the Gregorian calendar (Document 5). Also, images of spiritual related objects will constantly be seen and since the people were accustomed to religion, practices and traditions will never fade away (Document 6). These studies suggest a role for oligodendrocytes and brain demyelination in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. To examine the putative role of oligodendrocytes in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, animal studies are essential. Among possible animal models, the cuprizone (CPZ) induced demyelination in C57BL/6 mice appear to be highly promising and deserving of close scrutiny. CPZ is a copper chelator and has been shown to specifically damage the myelin sheath and oligodendrocytes, but not to cause lesions in other cell types in the central nervous system (CNS; Matsushima Morell, 2001; Remington, Babcock, Zehntner, Owens, 2007; Selvaraju et al., 2004). Also, CPZ was shown to have no effects on peripheral nerves (Komoly, 2005). Moreover, demyelinated animals on a CPZ diet showed reduced running performance on the training wheels and this was even more pronounced when these mice were subsequently exposed to the complex wheels (Liebetanz Merkler, 2006). More recently, other behavioral changes have been described in C57BL/6 mice treated with CPZ. It was reported that at 3 and 4 weeks of 0.2% CPZ treatment, the animals exhibited an increase in CNS activity and a reduced anxiety response to a novelty challenge test. Although there was significant opposition to conscription, it was a necessary and ultimately beneficial measure for Canada. The first major argument in favor of conscription is that of military necessity: in 1917 the Canada losing the war. The eastern front was disintegrating, the French army was on the brink of mutiny and the US had yet to enter the war in force. To allied military planners, it was clear that conscription was necessary to replace the casualties on the front line and allow Canada to continue fighting in 1918 and 1919: without a decisive effort on the part of all allied nations, the German spring offensives of 1918 could have resulted in a loss for the allies. Canada was also one of the only nations that had not implemented conscription by 1917: almost all allied powers had done so in order to fight the war. Essay on Thorntons Case Study.Doc CASE STUDY THORNTONS PLC Introduction In September 2003 Thorntons, the Uk s largest manufacturer and retailer of specialist chocolates, completed a three year planning period aimed at achieving a turnaround in the company s performance. While company turnover had been increased to £167m (= €250m) providing Thorntons with an 8 percent share of its core market, boxed chocolates, profit after tax had declined to the lowest level for seven years (Exhibit 1). During that time Thorntons had set out to follow a series of strategic initiatives involving the reorientation of the company towards becoming a retail focused business, increasing the scale of the company s manufacturing and retailing operations and developments that would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The demand for Thorntons boxed chocolates follows a strongly seasonal pattern: 35 percent of sales are in the seven week period before Christmas, a further 10 percent are for Easter, including three million Easter eggs. The combination of providing a fresh product together with the need to meet a seasonal pattern of demand places particular pressures upon the company s manufacturing facilities. A proportion of the Christmas product is produced several months in advance, maintaining freshness through chilled storage. However, Thorntons chocolates are enrobed in chocolate, rather than moulded. Their hand made appearance makes the process of packing boxed chocolates less open to automation than is the case for moulded chocolates (with their more uniform shape an size) produced by companies such as Cadburys. The seasonal demand for packing staff requires the increased use of casual workers, with consequent falls in efficiency. Seasonal demand also requires the use of temporary staff in the retail outlets to meet a sales pattern that can within a few days increase tenfold; typically the company sells £10m of chocolate in the last 72 hours of Christmas trading. At times the company has sold icecream (self manufactured or bought in) as an attempt to offset the effect of low, off season, chocolate sales. In certain respects Thorntons strategy, with its ... Da Vinci Code, A Character Analysis of Sophie Neveu Essay When Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is called to The Louvre on account of Jacques Sauniere s death, he is greeted by a carefully placed arrangement of clues the curator all so strategically left behind. One clue was an anagrammed grouping of the Fibonacci sequence. At first glance the structure seems like randomly strewn numbers, but Langdon knows that Sauniere is a smart man, and that they must mean something. Before he can possibly make any sense of it, Agent Sophie Neveu from the DCPJ s Cryptology Department arrives to break the code.
