The Duty Of Any Teachers
Introduction
The duty of any teachers is first and primary to promote learning in their students. Ideally, students
are then able to develop the knowledge and skills they have learned and apply them in a novel
situation. In this sense, teachers are promoting authentic learning within their classrooms. However,
due to enormous pressure to pass and get high scores in the standardized test, many teachers have
begun to employ test preparation practices that are usually not in the interest of students. These
activities may include giving extra classes to drill on test content and sometimes eliminating
curriculum content not covered by the test. This kind of practice has been noted in many countries
such as Canada, Australia, England, China, Japan, and my chosen context, Indonesia. In Indonesia,
students must take a standardized test in order to graduate or continue to the higher level of
education. They are tested in certain subjects including Bahasa Indonesia, English, Mathematics and
Science. English, as one of the tested subjects, is a compulsory subject in secondary school
curriculum with the main goal for communicative competence in both spoken and written.
However, in reality, there is a mismatch between the curriculum objectives and the assessment
method. The test is only provided in multiple choices format. This is another reason why teachers
tend to focus more on test preparation practices rather than accomplish the objectives of curriculum.
In order to explore this

Statement Of Purpose In Molecular Biology
For all my life, due to rapid increase in the number of cancer patients and my fear of it, I was
thinking about a new way to find a drug that can treat it without major side effects. That s why I
planned to study pharmacy to be aware of cancer biology and latest approaches for it s treatment.
Then I decided to continue my studies and to get my masters in the field of Molecular Biologyso I
can perform researches and try to find a new treatment for this disease. since my financial
abilities is not well established, I was searching how to win a scholarship and what are the

The Conflict Over Territory Is Because Of Religious Belief...
Are religious beliefs about and attachments to the land more of a hindrance than a help in finding
peace in Israel Palestine? In your response compare and contrast Jewish and Islamic perspectives.
To a certain extent, the current conflict in Israel can be defined as religious; this is predominantly
due to the beliefs and attachments Abrahamic religions hold to the land. The conflict stems from
the inability to share ownership of what the religions consider to be their holy land (Dowty, 2012,
p.2); thus, territory is the foremost cause of the Israel/Palestine conflict, but it is questionable as to
whether this is a religious matter or a political matter (Eugene Korn, 2008, p.x). Consequently, this
essay will discuss and conclude whether the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, religion has become intertwined in a dispute over territory because both parties have
used religious beliefs to defend their nationalist attachments; thus, religious beliefs and attachments
to the land hinder peace because the opposing beliefs conflict one another causing increased
tension. But, it is disputable as to whether religion or political attachments have more of a role in
preventing peace.
The Jewish involvement with Israel/Palestine can be traced back to 2000 BCE, when Abraham,
who the Jews claim is their oldest ancestor (Little, 2007, p.303), followed a message from God to
immigrate to the Land of Canaan (Genesis 12:5), which is modern day Israel. Since this point, the
Jewish people have fought to reside in Israel because it is the land that God promised them in the
covenant he created with Abraham. Although this ideology is rooted in the biblical rights to the
land, Theodore Herzl, who initiated Zionism to regain authority over Israel, intended for the
movement to be political (Little, 2007, p.305), thus

Occupational Outlook Handbook Essay
The United States Department of Labor s Bureau of Labor Statistics offers an Occupational Outlook
Handbook (OOH) that provides insights into the many career choices and their occupational
outlook. My occupation of choice is in accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing. The Occupational
Outlook Handbook (OOH) offers much information into my occupation of choice such as job
outlook, pay, duties, and requirements to become an accountant, bookkeeper, and auditor.
Let s begin by reviewing the job outlook regarding occupations in accounting, bookkeeping, and
auditing. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), over the next eight years there
will be a continued eight percent decline in employment. A reduced demand in positions available
will be mainly due to technological advances in computer software that is gradually eliminating
positions. Software advances have made many of the jobs in this field automated. The OOH
handbook tells us that The widespread use of computers also has enabled bookkeeping, accounting,
and auditing clerks to take on additional responsibilities, such as payroll, billing, purchasing

The Road Not Taken By David Orr Analysis
The existence of poetry as an artform predates literacy itself. Over the course of history, poetry
grew from a verbal form of art, existing mainly in religious hymns, to becoming the universal
language of the heart . The work of William Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe, some of the most
notable poets of history, has resonated with generations of Americans. Although they lived in a
Pre industrial world, their work remains powerful because the themes expressed in their artwork
can still be applied to modern society. On the contrary, protruding among this group of ancient
poets is Robert Frost, whose modern work remains just as powerful, shaping generations through
his questions of existence, and depiction of loneliness in an indifferent universe. One of Frost s
most celebrated poems: The Road Not Taken, is influential not only in the literary world, but also
within American culture. The poems subsequent ripple through American life is analyzed by
David Orr In his essay The Most Misread Poem in America. Here, Orr argues that the misread of
The Road Not Taken magnifies the underlying issues in society s understanding of both Frost and
poetryas a whole.
In any educational field, there is an inherent gap in knowledge between those trained, and the
common citizen. Orr uses an analysis of the misread of The Road Not Taken to expose this
subsequent ample gap in poetic understanding between poetry educatprs and the rest of American
society, when he states:

The Irony Of Optimism In Voltaire s Candide
When CunГ©gonde is first introduced in the story of Candide By Voltaire the only thing
mentioned is her looks. She is described as a seventeen year old ruddy cheeked girl, fresh, plump,
and desirable (p. 186). Right off the bat she is presented as a sexually desirable character. This
perception of her is what Voltaireeventually uses to nullify philosophical optimism.
CunГ©gonde s first involvement in the plot involved a sexual act. She was walking near the
castle when she saw Dr. Pangloss in the underbrush; he was giving a lesson in experimental
physics to her mother s maid (p.186). In seeing these two have sex, she then had a sexual fantasy of
her own about Candide. This fantasy is what then led up to her physical interaction with Candide
that resulted in him getting kicked out of the castle. Twice she has been mentioned in the first two
pages of the story and the only understanding a reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The world that is, is the best of all possible worlds. The author writes this book to point out the
foolishness and the irony of this philosophical thought. CunГ©gonde s reputation goes along
with that. In the real world, men value chastity in women and a woman s virginity is something
that she holds dear. When that is stripped away from her without her consent, it is not at all met
with the attitude that the characters in Candide have met it with. Characters like Candide
himself or evens some of the women in the story like the old woman seem to be very nonchalant
about women being sold as prostitutes or being raped. Voltaire uses this as a way to point out to
readers the foolishness of this philosophical idea. If in fact, this were the best of all possible
worlds, a woman s virtue means nothing and people should not care about it. This is where
readers can see that CunГ©gonde is merely a tool Voltaire uses to invalidate this idea, which shows
that her role as a minor character is an significant

Difference Between Eastern And Confucianism
How has the world changed in just one century? How has it changed in a decade? To say that we
live in the same world today as we did 10 years or 100 years ago would be incorrect. In a matter
of months or days our lives and society itself changes. Whether it be through new technology or
political ideology, we experience a different way of life in a short period of time. Taking this into
account, how do we continue to apply Confucianism to an ever changing world? Are eastern
countries still affected by these longstanding values present in the four books or have they
shifted as well? If so, when did they start to differ? Firstly, I believe that though the way of life
changes and we advance to a higher standard of living compared to the dark ages, there have
been certain core principles that have persevered through the times. No matter the year these
values held within a society guide its community. However, I believe that there are very obvious
differences between a western and eastern society when it comes to this. An eastern society
follows the above rule to the T unlike western society. For example, in America, the ideologies of
the people have changed over time such as, unwavering respect for your parents. American s used
to respect their parents at the expense of their own happiness. Over time, America has grown more
individualistic and have lost respect for their elders. However, in eastern traditions respect for the
family and elders has stayed true well into the 21st

system theory
One of the biggest breakthroughs in how we understand and guide change in organizations is
systems theory and systems thinking. There are two main definitions of a system, an implicit and
an explicit phrase, with the explicit phrase being used in system thinking by organizations. The
definition refers to a systemas being a collection of highly integrated parts or subsystems that attain
a specific goal, through inputs that are processed into precise outputs. And thus if a part of this
highly linked system is changed, the overall system is also changed. This is what s meant by a
system being systemic, i.e. relating and affecting the system as a whole. System complexity:
Systems range from simple to complex. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
the philosophies of Bunge, Bahm and Laszlo); mathematical modelling and information theory (e.g.
the work of Mesarovic and Klir); and practical applications. Mathematical systems theory arose
from the development of isomorphism between the models of electrical circuits and other systems.
Applications include engineering, computing, ecology, management, and family psychotherapy.
Systems analysis, developed independently of systems theory, applies systems principles to aid a
decision maker with problems of identifying, reconstructing, optimizing, and controlling a system
(usually a socio technical organization), while taking into account multiple objectives, constraints
and resources. It aims to specify possible courses of action, together with their risks, costs and
benefits. Systems theory is closely connected to cybernetics, and also to system dynamics, which
models changes in a network of coupled variables
Depending upon the problem situation, the system needs to be conceptualized using either the
mechanistic, organismic, cultural or political metaphors (Flood and Jackson, 1991) or a
combination of these. Thus, a theory of physical systems can help us in developing a mechanistic
view of the systems to begin with, which can then be developed further by using other approaches
along with the physical system theory.
According to Etizioni (1968), a physical system theory is easy to understand. The world is usually

Commentary on Through the Tunnel Essay
In the short story Through the Tunnel by Doris Lessing a young boy named Jerry takes on the risky
challenge of swimming through a narrow and long underwater tunnel on his holiday at the beach. It
is an interesting story with a variety of remarkable characters.
In the story, Jerry is on holiday at the beach with his mother, when he sees a group of older men
diving through an underwater tunnel. This fascinates him so he starts practicing to hold his breath
and dive until he can be like them. When he finally tries, he finds out how difficult it is and almost
drowns. The rising action starts as he swims into the tunnel for the first time. The climax is when
he almost drowns. He must go on into the blackness ahead, or he would drown. His ... Show more

Jerry s mother is very protective of his son and seems to care about him a lot. She worries that she
is being too protective and that he is old enough to look after himself.
Lessing is sympathetic towards her characters and she shows this in many ways.
The story is mostly written in the limited third person from Jerry s point of view, but there are a
few parts where it briefly goes into the mother s point of view. She was thinking, Of course he s
old enough to be safe without me. Have I been keeping him too close? He mustn t feel he ought to
be with me. I must be careful.
It is written from Jerry s point of view so that we can experience his pain and suffering as he is
swimming through the tunnel but on the other hand to understand why he wanted to take on this
challenge in the first place.
The story takes place in a warm, foreign country where Jerry and his mother are staying at a villa
for their summer holidays. The beach gives it a warm and relaxed feeling, but as Jerry dives down
deeper towards and into the tunnel the mood becomes colder and darker.
The theme of this short story is to set goals and not to give up on them. Every day, we set goals
and try to attain them but Lessing might also be trying to warn us not to be too go too far trying to
keep up with our goals. Jerry is determined to have the ability to dive through the tunnel to such a
large extent,

Accounting 504
Discussion Questions Week 2 1.) What is meant by the term double entry accounting? Examples are
great and try to build on what each other has said.
Double entry accounting is based on the fact that every financial transaction has equal and opposite
effects in at least two different accounts. In the double entry system, transactions are recorded in
terms of debits and credits. Since a debit in one account will be offset by a credit in another
account, the sum of all debits must therefore be exactly equal to the sum of all credits. The double
entry system of bookkeeping or accounting makes it easier to accurately prepare financial
statements directly from the books of account and detect errors.
For example: A company borrows a loan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Adjusting entries are usually made on the last day of an accounting period so that the financial
statements reflect the revenues that have been earned and the expenses that were incurred during
the accounting period. The purpose of each adjusting entry is to get both the income statement and
the balance sheet to be correct. An example of adjusting entry: a customer paid a company in
advance of receiving goods or service, the amount is reported as a liability. After the goods or
services are delivered, an adjusting entry is needed to reduce the liability and to report the
revenues. 5.) Cash basis vs Accrual basis
The difference between accrual and cash basis accounting is the timing of when revenue and
expenses are recognized. The cash method is most used by small businesses and for personal
finances. The cash method for revenue is only used when the money is received and expenses are
only used when the money is paid out. The accrual method is used for revenue when it is earned and

The Civil Unrest Of The Handmaid s Tale The Sons Of...
Amidst the civil unrest that occurred prior to the beginning of The Handmaid s Tale, the Sons of
Jacob were able to establish their theocratic society by executing insidious machinations calculated
to control the United States, and thereafter successfully turning it into Gilead. The Sons of Jacob
employed several schemes in carrying out their theocracy over Gilead, a substantial part of which
shall be discussed in this paper. Perhaps the most important act of the regime in gaining control of
the society is the prohibition of reading by most women. They practically blocked the access
towards literacy, which the majority enjoyed in the once democratic United States of America.
From this, it was clear that the new regime was more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer to the above stated question may seem to be hard, but a careful perusal to the
history of Gilead would reveal that the change brought about by the Sons of Jacob was gradual
and calculated. It was not done overnight. The terrorist attack brought about panic among the
populace. The dazed public, with no leader to govern them, was puzzled at the current state of
things and needed equilibrium to restore their respective inner peace. This power vacuum
served as the cue for the Sons of Jacob to come in. Their cunning circumvented the wisdom of
the public and covered under to veil of restoring peace to America. The population were of
course more than willing to benefit from the help being offered by these Christians. The Sons of
Jacob were religious in stature, so majority of people believed them, and not to mention the
additional motivation of drawing power from them in the time of crisis. With the euphoria of
being saviours from such a tragic state, the group was able to slowly exercise control towards the
populace by first suspending the power of the Constitution, taking away the right to read (for
some), setting a caste system for everyone to follow, among others. Again, the heavy influence of
language in society can be seen here since the vessel in proper execution of the multifarious plans
of the new leaders had something to do with language (in

Autochthony In Leif Enger s Peace Like A River
The story of American Literature, much like the journey of the Land family in Leif Enger s novel,
Peace Like a River, is a story of autochthony. But in both cases, that autochthony is permitted by
some stronger force. America has grown to be a uniquely autochthonous nation as a result of the
profound belief of her people in their exceptional nature. Simultaneously, the influence of other
nations and people is the catalyst for growth in America and American Literature throughout history.
The Colonial period of American Literature is laced strongly with religion and the establishment of
a national history. Both the Puritans and the Pilgrims lived their lives passionately devoted to living
out the Bible as they interpreted it, and found their identity deeply rooted in religion. The Puritans
of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, under the guidance of John Winthrop, were to serve as an
example, a city on a hill, and all of civilization was to take note. Throughout Peace Like a River,
Reuben Land looks upon Jeremiah s intense faith with the same reverence that Winthrop intended
the world to look upon his civilization with. Reuben, watching his father pace beyond the bounds of
the truck bed, is astonished when he does not fall, but instead continues walking on the hand of
God (Enger 18). During this moment, Reuben must have felt the same alarm and subsequent
astonishment that those watching Winthrop build his miniature empire felt. Both Winthrop and
Jeremiah Land walked

College students have many life altering questions they must answer through the journey of

Getting involved on campus is a great way to meet people and improve skills needed after
graduation. A student might choose to be involved in Greek life because of the parties, friends, and
job application quirks down the road (Joining a Fraternity, np). The outcome involves those things,

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. Essay
Introduction The business case study proposal is a company case about General Atomics
Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA ASI), the leading developer of unmanned aeronautical platform
technologies (ga asi.com, 2016). As noted on the GA ASI website (2016), GA ASI has been the
premier provider and value chain orchestrator (Mudambi, 2008) of remotely piloted aircraft, also
referred to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) or drones, to the United States (US) government
agencies since inception of the highly innovative technology in the early 1990s. Reductions in the
US defense budget, sequestration and increased competition from other US based UAV platform
providers such as Northrup Grumman and Boeing (Hoovers Company Profile, 2016) has slowed
GA ASI sales to US and European allies in recent years and caused layoff concerns (Shalal Esa,

Controlling Cell Fate in Zebrafish
Over the past years, there have been many conflicting views over weather or not rest has an effect
on controlling cell fate. There has been previous studies that have indicated that the rest gene
influences gene expression. Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook have
taken it upon themselves to determine if it is in fact true. By using methods like zinc finger
nuclease and quantitative PCR, they were able to find reliable evidence that: rest in zebrafish does
have an influencing affect on neural specific geneexpression but it fails to have many significant
effects on zebrafish neurogenesis. First of all, lets look at why exactly scientists choose to work on
zebrafish.
Zebrafish was chosen by George Streisinger who was looking for a vertebrae model system to do
work on genetics. It would appear that zebrasfish have some qualities that particularly makes them
an exceptional choice for study. They are easy to maintain, manipulate (ability to microinject DNA,
RNA and proteins into) and have many offspring rather rapidly. Another really interesting quality of
zebrafish is that in the first few days of embryonic development, embryons are transparent, which
allows imaging of cell movement and gene expression. Embryos also develop rather quickly;
therefore scientists could do testing sooner then would be capable if mammals were used. Now
lets look at what exactly is the rest protein. From what research has determined previously, we
believe the rest

In order for professional hockey teams in Canada not to relocate to United States, it is necessary

Seemingly, everyone recognizes that in Canada, Hockey is King (c1).
These teams have made a home for themselves in their towns and if these two franchises are up
rooted from their communities they may not be gained much of an advantage even with the lower
taxes (Dryden 2).
One of the fundamental problems with Canadian hockey teams competing with their American
counterparts is that Canadian teams pay all of the player s salaries and travel are in American
currency. However, all the revenue from ticket sales, concessions and advertising is in Canadian
currency. American teams have an advantage over their Canadian counterparts because all the
money that was created from ticket sales, concessions and selling advertising is one third more
than what Canadian teams will make. This is because of a weaker Canadian dollar, 69 cents to
one American dollar, means that Canadian franchises will always make one third less from
basic franchise profits as long as the Canadian dollar stays the same. The teams are among
Canada s fewest businesses that pay most of their salaries and expenses in U.S. dollars out of
revenue earned in depressed Canadian dollars (May p 2). This is a problem because the weaker
Canadian dollar makes it harder for these franchises to run day to day operations (Duhatschek 7).

There are many benefits of decriminalizing marijuana, from the ability to tax to the overall fixing

marijuana being legalized resulting in increased drug usage rates is a fallacy. Marijuana legalization
will not necessarily skyrocket the rate of which Americans use marijuana: the observed usage rate
in America is 11%, while Norway, a country where the drug is legalized, has an observed rate of
7% (Marijuana Legalization Leads to a Reduction in Crime). This information is pertinent because
it nullifies the notion of increased drug use in America as a consequence of legalization; the
common user of marijuana will continue usage independent of the legality. Marijuana
criminalization aids in linking illegal activities to drugs, raising the participation in the illegal
activities. Violence, prostitution, and gambling are associated with marijuana due to the

Essay on Phantom of the Opera
Phantom of the Opera
In the novel, Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux, we are introduced to a character known to
everyone as the mysterious Opera Ghost. His character in this book is very complex.
Although the Opera Ghost is very ugly physically and mentally, through his actions, we can find
much beauty.
During the masked ball we are given, what the reader believes at the time, a very good physical
description of the Opera Ghost. At the masked ball the Opera Ghost does a perfect job imitating
death. The Grim Reaper himself must have posed for it, the on looking crowd would comment. But
the hideous thing that he wears upon his head is, in fact, only a mask. ... Show more content on

Erik truly was ugly, not only physically, but mentally.
We are given our first example of Erik s beauty when Raoul is spying on Christine in her dressing
room. He starts to hear a beautiful sound that seems to coming all around him. He sees no one in
the room, but the music starts to get louder and more definite. A voice that unites all extremes at
once, (103), Raoul tells, without knowing of the ugliness of the character from which it comes.
Raoul continues to praise the voice as, heroically sweet..., so delicate in strength, so strong in
delicacy, and so irresistibly triumphant,(103). This clearly shows that, without knowing the physical
ugliness of the Opera Ghost, a body could enjoy his beautiful voice.
Another example of Erik s beauty comes through his love of Christine. At the end of the novel
the Opera Ghost is talking to the Persian. The Persians asks Erik why he decided to spare the live
of himself, as well as the life of his enemy, Viscount Raoul de Chagny. I(Opera Ghost), felt her
tears dropping on my forehead..., I took off my mask and she didn t die..., I then heard her say,
poor, unhappy Erik and from then on I was only a poor dog, (263). I (Erik), told her that she could
marry her young man..., it was like cutting my own heart into little pieces, (264).
Through Erik s selfless

In her introduction she begins doings critical things, that we have previously discussed in class.

Before we can begin to conduct business with Chile, we need to know some facts about the
country. Similar to here in the US, Chile views one s class based on their financial status and

Those who are in a higher class, show their wealth by their appearance, such as clothing and

Impact Of Tourism On Tourism Development
I.Rationale
Since the 1970s, many different studies have investigated and analysed residents perceived tourism
impacts toward tourism development. As stated by Nunkoo, Smith, and Ramkissoon (2013),
researchers are increasingly making use of different theories to investigate this topic.
A major reason for rising interest has been the increasing evidence that tourism development leads
not only to positive, but also has the potential for negative outcomes at the local level (Lankford
Howard, 1994).
Furthermore, due to the lack of research on the particular destination, it is of special interest for the
present student to investigate the perceptions that the residents of Malaga hold toward the most
recent socio cultural impacts of tourism derived from a rapidly industry development. Some
professionals of the tourism industry state that Malaga residents consider that the tourist attractions
are only focused on tourists and therefore they do not get involved in the range of activities offered.
The result of the study can be a source of information for future studies in which the centre of
exploration are the locals residents mindset towards socio cultural tourism impacts and how the
industry development affects their quality of life in both positive and negative ways.
II.Research Questions
пѓ Why are residents such a relevant factor on tourism? Residents as ingredients of a destination

The Play Oppenheimer Follows The Story Of J Robert...
The play Oppenheimer follows the story of J Robert Oppenheimer and his colleagues on their
journey to discover and invent the atomic bomb. As the book is about the creation of this atomic
weapon, the entirety of it relates to morals in some shape or form. Throughout the reading of the
play I kept thinking about the moral implications of the work they were doing and what might
each individual character be thinking of it. There were two parts of the play that made me really
come up with this question in particular. The first was in chapter 22 Hiroshima, when it was
talking about the bombing of Hiroshima. That whole page was very eye opening to think how so
many people died, even though it helped many more in the end, for those people... Show more

I can agree with the idea that basing actions on morals can help to ensure that people are not
being irrational in their thought processes and that people s needs are more likely put ahead of
individual wants. If morals were not involved, then decisions would most likely be made
depending on what would advance the position of that person the most or on other selfish wants.
At the same time, without morals being looked at, many lives could be lost because there is no
clear way to judge things and come up with an agreement. Without morals, it can be extremely
tough to figure out right from wrong and how a group or individual should act. Conversely, by
looking at it from the perspective that morals should not be the basis of decision making, you can
see that if we don t use them, then many people can get hurt as a result. If people make choices
without thinking of the consequences or about what is important to them and the people around
them, the wrong choice may be made. While morals shouldn t be the only thing considered, they
must be taken into account to ensure the right things are being done. If we only base our actions
on morals, then some very important past discoveries may not have been made. If people only
consider morals than not only will decisions be biased as each person has different morals, but
many things in history may not have been accomplished. For example, the nuclear bomb may not

The novel, The Maze Runner, is about a 16 year old boy, named Thomas, who wakes up in a
metal box that seems to be moving. As the darkness in the box starts fading, Thomas realizes that
he must be in an elevator. He hears harsh sounds of chains and pulleys, which terrifies him on his
way up. When Thomas reaches the top, 2 guys named, Alby and Gally pull him out of the
elevator and greet him. This is where Thomas realizes that all of his memory was gone. Alby had
told him that his name will come back to him within three days, meanwhile, he was called Greenie.
This nickname Greenie was given to everyone who came up the elevator that did not remember
their names. After, welcoming Thomas, Alby handed him over to this young boy named Chuck.
Chuck was responsible to take Thomas for a walk and introduce him to the Glade. The Glade is an
open area of land, which is located in the center of the maze. This is where the Gladers are
forced to live and hang out. Outside of the Glade is the maze, which is full of huge walls and
vines and is the only hope of escape for the Gladers. During the day, the doorsto the maze open up,
which allow the runners to go out and find an exit. However, during the night, the doors close
and the Grievers come out, which are huge slugs, that harass and kill anyone that is trapped in
the maze. The next day, Thomas is told to go to the forest to grab some fertilizer. He sees a guy,
named Ben, aggressively staring right at him. Thomas asks Ben if he is okay, but Ben s
response was, it is all your fault, and then attacks him. Thomas quickly runs back to the Glade,
getting away from Ben. As Ben tackles Thomas, Newt strikes Ben in the head with a rod and
punishes Ben by throwing him in the maze for breaking one of the three rules. The rule that Ben
broke was harming another glader. The other two rules that the Glade follows are, doing your
part and never setting foot out in the maze. Alby decides to go and explore the maze with the
captain of the runners, Minho. It is now late at night and all the Gladers are frightened, the doors
to the maze are about to close, but Alby and Minho have not returned. The walls are now starting

The family is what engulfs and reflects these aspects of a society. It is affected by the political
beliefs of a country, and it also reflects the social and economic standpoints in a society, most
specifically women s status. As we recently learned from Dr. Carmocolias, kinship, or the family, is
one of the two oldest and most important institutions in the world (religion is the other), and I find
it quite interesting, because I found the most significant correlation between the two. Two main
aspects that I found most influential on the family were religion, and foreign influence, and I will
now summarize my findings in Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, and Greece.
Turkey is a prime example of the division between urban and rural family life. This is a country
that was greatly impacted by its rich history. The influx of Europeans, due to the commercial treaty
of 1839, marked a period of rapid urbanization that changed family structures and brought
opportunity for women in the workforce (Duben, 7). One point I concluded here was that the
change in household structure mirrored the change in family structure. The European value of
independence was adopted by urban upper class families, and this later showed in the architecture
of the homes (Duben, 201). Family life in rural Turkey is still traditional, and maintains, for the
most part, the patriarchal system.

Like Dr. Morgan said, the reason people get vitiligo is unknown. Even though a person can get it
at any time in their life, people usually get it between the ages of 10 and 30. It does not matter
whether you are a female or a male or your race; anybody can contract it. At the moment it s
believed that a person cannot be born with it. For vitiligo to be diagnosed, a doctor needs a
precise history of illnesses the patient may have had, family history and scrutiny of a
characteristic lesions. There is no clear pattern of inheritance and no one yet knows which (if
any) gene or group of genes is responsible for the condition in humans , said Dr. Morgan. In an

disorders like tinea versicolor need to be excluded. Mostly doctors diagnose by observation. The
loss of pigmentation is more noticeable in people with darker skin. The doctor can order a skin

the doctor can suggest the patient get an eye examination to make sure they do not have uveitis (

The Economic Dequality In Corruption In Mexico
THE (APPARENT) DECLINE IN CORRUPTION IN MEXICO
Due to its current state, it is vital that one understands the political climate in which Mexico is
currently struggling with, particularly in regards to the unfortunate corruption within the
government. Although many different factors have contributed to this problem, the two of most
relevance in this essay are the economic situation and the activities of the drug cartels. In addition to
how these events have led up to this moment, it is also necessary to analyze how these can
potentially affect issues such as NAFTA, immigration and the possible second rise of the
Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).
First and foremost, in order to make an educated comparison, it is important to consider the events
that have led up to the current state of corruption within the Mexican government. One particular
aspect of this issue would be the overall condition of the nation s economy and how inequality has
contributed to the bigger issue. For starters, there is a noticeable divide between the rich and poor,
and this income gap has not improved for quite some time. Although Mexico is a country with
substantial wealth, the income inequality causes this wealth to be concentrated amongst a select
few[X]. Such an imbalance creates friction between these groups of people due to this sort of
systematic hierarchy in which not all citizens are presented with the same opportunities. Such a
situation is problematic because it then leaves many

D. H. Lawrence Essay
It is a divided issue whether D. H. Lawrence is to be considered a friend or a foe to the feminist
movement. On one hand, he advocates an egalitarian man woman relationship, on the other, his
notion of equality seems rather subject to qualification. His reference to the ideal monogamous
partnership as phallic marriage (Spilka 7) is certainly a cue that must be taken up. Why is marriage
phallic unless the phallus is privilegedin the expression of sexuality? (de Beauvoir205) The
idealisation of gender relationships leads to an essentialisation of gender, which is itself at the
source of patriarchal domination. Is Lawrence really a liberator of sex, or only of patriarchal sex?

This is not because it is passionate or animalistic, it is because it is the meeting of two essentially

Sex is the balance of male and female in the universe, the attraction, the repulsion, always different,
always new... Sex goes through the rhythm of the year, in man and woman, ceaselessly changing:
the rhythm of the sun in his relation to the earth.
Marriage is the clue to human life, ...[but] marriage is no marriage that is not basically and
permanently phallic. (A Propos Lady Chatterly 40 42)
He goes on to describe the phallus as the column of blood that fills the woman s valley of blood
without ever breaking through and commingling. This ultimate nearness which still respects
individuality is the deepest mystery of science and religion, both of which are invoked in the
elaboration of Lawrence s theory. The problem, he feels with modern Europe is that sex is too
egoistic and conscious; one has sex for and with oneself1[1] and not as part of the expression of
natural forces. Only by abandoning the personal in sex can one hope to give rise to a new mystical

Vietnamese speakers have increased by nearly 6 times since 1980. The figure below shows the
distribution of six largest Asian groups in California and the Vietnamese makes up 37.3% of the
population. The Vietnamese community grew rapidly and has become one of the largest immigrant
communities during the past four decades. In 1975, Vietnamese began their first wave of migration
to the United States. One important factor is the victory of North Vietnamese in the VietnamWar on
April 30th, 1975. The government of South Vietnam lose its battle against the North Vietnam
communist forces and more than 125,000 Vietnamese refugees evacuated to the United States. The
mass migration occurred because large groups of military personnel, soldiers, government officials
were evacuated by the U.S. Navy and air force. Most of the refugees were South Vietnamese

The Ordinary Cdbs Is Relation Database System
This paper describes the ordinary CDBS is Relation Database System (RDBS), which has the great
system for transactions processing and locking. Locking mechanism in DDBS is similar to that in
RDBS, but it is more complex because of data distribution and transaction concurrence in distributed
database system. state that the Locktable and Two stage Locking convention (2PL) are utilized as a
part of Relation DatabaseManagement System (RDBMS) with multi granularity convention for
accessing operation of lock scheduler. The lock table correspondence describes each element that s
locked in the lock table. There are 3 locking models for RDBMS namely DB2,Oracle,Sqlserver
2005. Row level shared locks allow multiple users to read data, but do not allow any users to
change that data.Table level shared locks allow multiple users to perform read and write
operations on the table, but do not allow any users to perform DDL operations.Multiple users
can hold shared locks simultaneously. An exclusive lock allows only one user/connection to
update a particular piece of data (insert, update, and delete). When one user has an exclusive lock
on a row or table, no other lock of any type may be placed on it. Each Xact must obtain a S (shared)
lock on object before reading, and an X (exclusive) lock on object before writing. A transaction
can release its locks once it has performed its desired operation (R or W). A transaction cannot
request additional locks once it releases any locks. All locks

Why Did Medea Seek Retribution
The Greece play Medea is about a wife from a foreign land that is abandoned by her husband.
She chooses to take revenge against him by killing his new bride, his father in law, and his two
kids. For Medea, trying to punish him was not justified for the circumstance that she was in. This
was mainly for two reasons. Starting off, she was a foreigner who married and became a queen in
a land, so there were different rights and customs that she could not ignore. Adding to that, it was
not socially acceptable because she was a woman living in Greece. If Medeawas a man living in
Greece, it would of been fine for her to make the choices she did. Because of these factors, Medea
s decision to seek retribution was not excusable. It is important to note... Show more content on

They say that Jason did not give her a place to live or provide for her after leaving her, even
though it was culturally expected of him. Many argue that Medea was left nowhere to go, after
betraying her homeland for Jason. The father of the bride, Creon, also forbade her staying in the
land, fearing her retribution. Among not having a place to live, people say that she was not
given provisions to take care of her and her children (Jason chose to leave his children with her).
These points however, are actually not all that true. Much of this is proven wrong in the play
where Jason and Medea argue with each other. But, if you wish for the children or for yourself In

The Anger In A Room Of One s Own By Virginia Woolf
The Anger of a Feminist Anger is a complex concept that is difficult for many to explain and
manage, just as it is for Virginia Woolf in the text A Room of One s Own. Anger is defined as That
which pains or afflicts, or the passive feeling which it produces; trouble, affliction, vexation, sorrow,
yet this is far from concrete and does not contain the multiple aspects that anger brings to mind. It
does not provoke the emotionin the reader itself as Virginal Woolf does in A Room of One s Own.
She demonstrates her ragequite frequently in a multitude of ways in an effort to let her audience
understand her thoughts and reasons. In this particular text, Virginia Woolf investigates her anger at
the idea that many people consider women to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Virginia Woolf expresses her rage through her unflattering use of physical descriptions of the
professor, bringing her emotions into the physical world, creating a villain out of the professor,
forcing her audience to take her side. When Woolf s imagined speaker is reading in the library, she
begins to sketch the imaginary professor who had writing the book she was reading, titled The
Mental, Moral, and Physical Inferiority of the Female Sex. The speaker first describes this
professor, Professor von X, as not in my picture a man attractive to women, (Woolf 31). Because
this is the first way in which she describes him, it places a great weight on physical attributes. She
says women would not find him attractive, using his physical appearance to symbolize her opinion
of his ideals. Any women in the audience will be less likely to agree with his thoughts on
inferiority since they are first judging him on his described appearance, which is not particularly
endearing. This description also implies that men who think women inferior are less attractive to
women, discouraging the behavior in any male audience members. By degrading the sexist
professor, she

The Search For Prosperity In Mac s In Dubious Battle
In today s world, it seems everyone is fueled to work only towards the dream of wealth. Without
the promise of payment, people will turn their back on their neighbor without a second thought and
continue on the search for prosperity. In the novel In Dubious Battle, we meet Mac, a hard working
party member doing everything in his power to help struggling laborers make the wagethey were
promised before setting out for the California apple orchards. Almost immediately after the strike
begins, Mac comes to the realization that there likely is no chance of the workers winning the
strike, yet he continues to fight for his beliefs. Some may interpret this as selfish for risking the
lives of these workers, however this is undoubtedly false as Mac risks his own life alongside the
other strikers. Mac also has no financial reward for helping with the strike and is spending his
time educating the workers a valuable lesson on how to strike that will help them in the larger
strike that Mac sees ominously approaching. From the moment Mac arrives on the apple
orchard, we see that he is not afraid to risk his own life for the sake of the party. In a
conversation with Jim, Mac reveals how the party is larger than any single member, no matter
how important that member may be. Mac goes on to express that he is willing to give up his
own life in the wake of a larger, nation wide strike he foresees coming very soon. Mac expresses
this idea to Jim, saying if I go out now it won t matter. The

The Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand Franz at Sarajevo
It was a peaceful day at Sarajevo. The town had gathered to see the parade, but in the end,
witnessed a crime. Archduke Franz and his wife Duchess Sophie were driving through Sarajevo
and expected to arrive peacefully, but Gavrilo Princip had an assassination in mind for the family.
The assassination of Duke Franz Ferdinand was the most significant assassination of the twentieth
century. The series of unfortunate events, the lives of the killer and the killed, the coincidence and
the troubles that ensued because of this event were key to the beginning of World War I
.
Franz Ferdinand was traveling to Sarajevo in June 1914 to inspect the imperial armed forces in
Bonzia and Herzgovina. As they were cruising through the town in an open car, Serbian
nationalist Nedjelko Cabrinovic threw a bomb at their vehicle. The bomb rolled off of the back
their vehicle and injured a few officers and a few civilian. The car sped off and quickly made it
to a safe place. Later in the day, Duke Franz Ferdinand went to visit the people injured. As they
turned down the street not expecting anything, BANG, the royalty had been shot. The
assassination that occurred caused two world wars, eighty thousand deaths, the Rise of Hitler.
This may not have happened if Princip had not have been hungry for a sandwich. Gavrilo looks
up from his lunch and notices his opportunity for all the fame and glory he could get from his
terrorist group, the Black Hand. He saw Franz Ferdinand just a few

Diction In Christopher Ralegh s The Passionate Shepherd To...
In 1599, Christopher Marlowe wrote a poem called The Passionate Shepherd to His Love. This
poem has a very idealistic or optimistic point of view, as the shepherd asks his love to come live
a simple life with him in the country. Marlowe uses diction and imagery to portray a simple but
beautiful and fulfilling life for his love, if only she chooses to come live with him. In response
to Marlowe s poem, in 1600, Sir Walter Ralegh wrote The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd. In
contrast to Marlowe s poem, Ralegh s poem has a very realistic point of view. Ralegh uses diction
and imagery to show how empty the shepherd s promises are to his love. Although these two poems
correspond and use the same elements to get their point across, they could... Show more content on

The Nymph in this poem uses imagery describing what will happen during the bad times in their
lives if she chooses to live with him. She says the rivers will rage, the rocks will grow cold and
the flowers will fade (line 6 and 9). She says all of the things that he is offering to her will soon
break, soon wither, and soon be forgotten (line 15) and then she will be left with nothing but
empty promises. In this way, Ralegh uses imagery to help the reader see what will really happen,
instead of just what the shepherd promises will happen. Then after looking at how hard their life
will really be and how meaningless his promises really are, the nymph says all these in me no

Social Impacts Of The American Revolution
The American Revolution was caused from multiple issues in the way Great Britain forced the
colonies to live under the Kings rule and not their own colonial government. The colonist came
over to the new world in search of freedom and new beginnings. It created the beginning of the
United States of America. It changed a lot of people s lives and the way they live. The
Revolution influenced the lives of women in America. During this period of time women were
inferior of men. Women were not recognized by the law to have independence in economic,
political, or civic matters. Women who strived for a role in politics faced harsh legal and
ideological obstacles. The ideology of republicanism argued that the traits of independence, aptitude,
physical strength, and bravery were masculine. Many women participated in the protests and
boycotts leading up to the Revolutionary War. During the war, the women took over the male s
role in the family and around the house for example manage the farms and businesses. After the
war, women were able to participate in numerous things such as walk in parades, attend congress
sessions, participate in political rallies, and petition legislation. By the end of the eighteenth
century, politics had little room for women to express their views. Women took advantage of better
educational opportunities and found ways to influence the public on their political rights. Many
women came out of the revolution with a political importance and a sense of

can see. That is your insurance score. Your insurance score is determined by your credit score

Mucosal wound healing , Marucha, et al, 1998
This study was carried in the Ohio State University College of dentistry and published in 1998.
This study began by reviewing a previous study on stress and health. This found that people
undertaking a chronically stressful activity show characteristic changes in their blood chemistry
and take longer to heal minor wounds than do people who are not under conditions of stress.
Therefore, it addressed the effects of a commonplaces stressor, examination stress, on wound
healing.
In this study, it was used experimental approach. In the control group, the first wounds were placed

It was confirmed by Perceived Stress Scale in the questionnaire for every student. Therefore, the
variables were appropriate for the hypothesis.
For the participants in this study, eleven healthy dental students were recruited from the Ohio State
College of Dentistry. They had the basic knowledge about handling the wounds. Since the effect of
healing oral wounds were controlled by the participants, it was better to have the knowledge of this
area to avoid affecting the effect of healing wounds by individual differences. Also, they were
instructed not to use rinses or other special home care other than normal oral hygiene. For the
ethical issues, the Ohio State Biomedical Research Review Committee approved the project. All the
students gave written informed consent before participation. This complies with ethical rules that
research works that involve human subjects and animals should be carried out in accordance with
high ethical standards set by various ethics committee.
For controlling the confounding variables, all the participants were healthy dental students and
were instructed not to use rinses or other special home care other than normal oral hygiene. It
eliminated the individual differences to affect the effect of healing wounds. In this study, a within
participants design was employed rather that between participants design in this experiment because
the effect of healing wounds was much affected by individual differences. Using

Clark Motivation For College Essay
Clark needs help! He needs helps choosing a college to apply to. Clark s college choice is difficult
and and relies on a few psychological concepts that help him make a decision. These concepts
consist of Availability Heuristic, Compliance, Intrinsic vs Extrinsic Motivation, and Self fulfilling
Prophecy.
The dictionary definition of Availability Heuristicis a mental shortcut that relies on immediate
examples that come to mind. This concept is common in our culture today; you may see a news
report on recent shark attacks and it may lead you to believe that shark attacks are a common
thing. This means that Clark may have made a conclusion about one of the colleges prematurely.
Perhaps he saw a news report, or heard something about abductions happening on and around the
campus of the college that he is choosing. This may lead him to not want to go to said college in
fear of being abducted, however without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reversely, there is Extrinsic Motivation: where you are motivated to do something for an
external reward, such as a trophy, or even to avoid punishment. A good example is sports, one
person might be playing to win (extrinsic motivation), and another person may be playing just to
have fun (intrinsic motivation). Clark may want to go to the college with the best education
because he wants to better himself, and gain a lot of knowledge. But Clark may want to go to a
college with the best reputation, so when jobs look at what college he went to they can be
impressed. Clark may have been offered scholarships, if this is the case he might be motivated to
save money and go to the college that is offering him the most in scholarship money. This is an
example of Extrinsic Motivation. However, Clark might turn down the large amount of scholarship
money just to go to a better school, this is an example of Intrinsic

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Driving While Stupid By Dave Barry
Driving While Stupid All around the world there are careless drivers. There are many different
trends, that different countries follow, when it comes to driving on public roads. At the end of the
day, these trends have one thing greatly in common, they re reckless. Throughout this piece of
writing, DrivingWhile Stupid , written by Dave Barry, Barry talks about his opinion on drivers.
Barry feels there are crazy drivers wherever you go, but none of them can be any worse than the
drivers in Miami. Barry supports his argument with the use of personal experiences. Barry writes
using satire, not to offend any of the drivers he s witnessed, but to expose the fact that such
stupidity actually exists. Barry uses techniques such as, irony, sarcasm,... Show more content on

In the Argentinean city of Mar del Plata, nobody ever drives slower than 65 miles per hour,
including inside parking garages, and at night, many motorists drive with their headlights off,
because this extends the life of your bulbs (Barry,572). Seems to me that the way Barry would
put it, this Argentinean city has no regards for public safety. The city Mar del Plata translates
cover your eyes (Barry,572), which can possibly be interpreted as death is among us, you might
not want to look. Next, Barry talks about when he rode a bus in China. From his visit in China,
Barry discovered that it s not only personal transportation where people are driving recklessly, but
public transportation is doing it as well. [P]lowing through humongous traffic snarls... all

Human Life On Mars And The Red Planet
Mars Exploration
For over 60 years now, humans have been trying anything possible to get information on our
neighboring planet. Known as the Red Planet , Mars is the closest planet to us in our Solar
System that has the chance of having human life on it. Though the chances of life on Mars are
slim to none, many space organizations, including NASA, are still exploring the planet for any
signs of life. Questions that many of the NASA crews ask themselves are : Is there water on Mars?
What is the radiation on Mars like? And will it effect the exploration of Mars? How can we get
humans to Mars safely? These questions are being asked by space agencies all around the world,
however, the question that is getting more attention is : Will there ever ... Show more content on

need to continue to explore our red neighboring planet. Mars may just be the only other planet in
our solar system that has a chance of having human life on it and we may be closer than ever to the

The Effect Of Temperature Increases Due On Anthropogenic...
Abstract The purpose of this article by Diffenbaugh et.al. is to determine how temperature increases
due to anthropogenic warming change the probability of precipitation deficits that cause severe
drought conditions, and determine what the conditions will look like in the future. They used
historical precipitationand temperature data with Palmer Drought Metrics and global climate
models to attempt to answer this question. It was found that in the past twenty years, the
frequency of drought years has doubled, without any significant change in the trends of
precipitation variability. This was attributed to significant increases in positive temperature
anomalies causing an increased frequency of precipitation deficits leading to more occurrences of
drought years. Global climate modeling suggested that by 2030, the region will transition to a
regime where there is a 100% risk that all future dry years will coincide with warmer conditions,
increasing the risk of extended drought conditions. This is not the first time this region has
experienced prolonged drought conditions. However, it is the first time the drought has been this
severe. Since 1977, the per capita water usage has decreased such that in 2013 the water demand is
similar to that of 1977, meaning that it will be very difficult to come up with new short term water
conservation ideas.

Cultural Change Of The Vietnam War
As America was fighting a war for freedom in another country, unruly teens were fighting their
own at home. Cultural change, the explosion of free love, youthful rebellion, and a new liberal
mindset all seemed to have one underlying device in common; drug use. The late 1960 s into the
early and mid 70 s found the perfect environment for recreational druguse. Music and arts
celebrated this lifestyle, as well as free thinkers and their idiotic philosophies about spiritual elation
through mind altering narcotics. Lack of family structure with so many homes transformed by the
Vietnam War also left young teens without guidance, and an economy with little to offer to the up
and coming generation. As the next few years passed and the free love generation began to grasp
the concept of working for a living, showering on a regular basis, love with commitment (or
antibiotics), and cultural change through policy, they brought to the workforce a new dynamic not
previously prevalent. Recreational drug usehad become part of society. Vietnam War veterans also
brought their own demons home with their return, opiate addictions were a common occurrence
(Carson 2012).
This new dynamic was seen initially in 1971 by the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse
(NHSDA) spearheaded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The survey indicated that
many illegal drug users were employed full or part time. The initial survey was used to try and
understand the scope of the problem,

  • 2. The Duty Of Any Teachers Introduction The duty of any teachers is first and primary to promote learning in their students. Ideally, students are then able to develop the knowledge and skills they have learned and apply them in a novel situation. In this sense, teachers are promoting authentic learning within their classrooms. However, due to enormous pressure to pass and get high scores in the standardized test, many teachers have begun to employ test preparation practices that are usually not in the interest of students. These activities may include giving extra classes to drill on test content and sometimes eliminating curriculum content not covered by the test. This kind of practice has been noted in many countries such as Canada, Australia, England, China, Japan, and my chosen context, Indonesia. In Indonesia, students must take a standardized test in order to graduate or continue to the higher level of education. They are tested in certain subjects including Bahasa Indonesia, English, Mathematics and Science. English, as one of the tested subjects, is a compulsory subject in secondary school curriculum with the main goal for communicative competence in both spoken and written. However, in reality, there is a mismatch between the curriculum objectives and the assessment method. The test is only provided in multiple choices format. This is another reason why teachers tend to focus more on test preparation practices rather than accomplish the objectives of curriculum. In order to explore this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Conflict Over Territory Is Because Of Religious Belief... Are religious beliefs about and attachments to the land more of a hindrance than a help in finding peace in Israel Palestine? In your response compare and contrast Jewish and Islamic perspectives. To a certain extent, the current conflict in Israel can be defined as religious; this is predominantly due to the beliefs and attachments Abrahamic religions hold to the land. The conflict stems from the inability to share ownership of what the religions consider to be their holy land (Dowty, 2012, p.2); thus, territory is the foremost cause of the Israel/Palestine conflict, but it is questionable as to whether this is a religious matter or a political matter (Eugene Korn, 2008, p.x). Consequently, this essay will discuss and conclude whether the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, religion has become intertwined in a dispute over territory because both parties have used religious beliefs to defend their nationalist attachments; thus, religious beliefs and attachments to the land hinder peace because the opposing beliefs conflict one another causing increased tension. But, it is disputable as to whether religion or political attachments have more of a role in preventing peace. The Jewish involvement with Israel/Palestine can be traced back to 2000 BCE, when Abraham, who the Jews claim is their oldest ancestor (Little, 2007, p.303), followed a message from God to immigrate to the Land of Canaan (Genesis 12:5), which is modern day Israel. Since this point, the Jewish people have fought to reside in Israel because it is the land that God promised them in the covenant he created with Abraham. Although this ideology is rooted in the biblical rights to the land, Theodore Herzl, who initiated Zionism to regain authority over Israel, intended for the movement to be political (Little, 2007, p.305), thus ... Occupational Outlook Handbook Essay The United States Department of Labor s Bureau of Labor Statistics offers an Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) that provides insights into the many career choices and their occupational outlook. My occupation of choice is in accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing. The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) offers much information into my occupation of choice such as job outlook, pay, duties, and requirements to become an accountant, bookkeeper, and auditor. Let s begin by reviewing the job outlook regarding occupations in accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), over the next eight years there will be a continued eight percent decline in employment. A reduced demand in positions available will be mainly due to technological advances in computer software that is gradually eliminating positions. Software advances have made many of the jobs in this field automated. The OOH handbook tells us that The widespread use of computers also has enabled bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks to take on additional responsibilities, such as payroll, billing, purchasing (buying), and keeping track of overdue bills. Many of these functions require clerks to communicate with clients. On the bright side, there is still a demand for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Road Not Taken By David Orr Analysis The existence of poetry as an artform predates literacy itself. Over the course of history, poetry grew from a verbal form of art, existing mainly in religious hymns, to becoming the universal language of the heart . The work of William Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe, some of the most notable poets of history, has resonated with generations of Americans. Although they lived in a Pre industrial world, their work remains powerful because the themes expressed in their artwork can still be applied to modern society. On the contrary, protruding among this group of ancient poets is Robert Frost, whose modern work remains just as powerful, shaping generations through his questions of existence, and depiction of loneliness in an indifferent universe. One of Frost s most celebrated poems: The Road Not Taken, is influential not only in the literary world, but also within American culture. The poems subsequent ripple through American life is analyzed by David Orr In his essay The Most Misread Poem in America. Here, Orr argues that the misread of The Road Not Taken magnifies the underlying issues in society s understanding of both Frost and poetryas a whole. In any educational field, there is an inherent gap in knowledge between those trained, and the common citizen. Orr uses an analysis of the misread of The Road Not Taken to expose this subsequent ample gap in poetic understanding between poetry educatprs and the rest of American society, when he states: The first audience is ... • 7. The Irony Of Optimism In Voltaire s Candide When CunГ©gonde is first introduced in the story of Candide By Voltaire the only thing mentioned is her looks. She is described as a seventeen year old ruddy cheeked girl, fresh, plump, and desirable (p. 186). Right off the bat she is presented as a sexually desirable character. This perception of her is what Voltaireeventually uses to nullify philosophical optimism. CunГ©gonde s first involvement in the plot involved a sexual act. She was walking near the castle when she saw Dr. Pangloss in the underbrush; he was giving a lesson in experimental physics to her mother s maid (p.186). In seeing these two have sex, she then had a sexual fantasy of her own about Candide. This fantasy is what then led up to her physical interaction with Candide that resulted in him getting kicked out of the castle. Twice she has been mentioned in the first two pages of the story and the only understanding a reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The world that is, is the best of all possible worlds. The author writes this book to point out the foolishness and the irony of this philosophical thought. CunГ©gonde s reputation goes along with that. In the real world, men value chastity in women and a woman s virginity is something that she holds dear. When that is stripped away from her without her consent, it is not at all met with the attitude that the characters in Candide have met it with. Characters like Candide himself or evens some of the women in the story like the old woman seem to be very nonchalant about women being sold as prostitutes or being raped. Voltaire uses this as a way to point out to readers the foolishness of this philosophical idea. If in fact, this were the best of all possible worlds, a woman s virtue means nothing and people should not care about it. This is where readers can see that CunГ©gonde is merely a tool Voltaire uses to invalidate this idea, which shows that her role as a minor character is an significant ... • 8. Difference Between Eastern And Confucianism How has the world changed in just one century? How has it changed in a decade? To say that we live in the same world today as we did 10 years or 100 years ago would be incorrect. In a matter of months or days our lives and society itself changes. Whether it be through new technology or political ideology, we experience a different way of life in a short period of time. Taking this into account, how do we continue to apply Confucianism to an ever changing world? Are eastern countries still affected by these longstanding values present in the four books or have they shifted as well? If so, when did they start to differ? Firstly, I believe that though the way of life changes and we advance to a higher standard of living compared to the dark ages, there have been certain core principles that have persevered through the times. No matter the year these values held within a society guide its community. However, I believe that there are very obvious differences between a western and eastern society when it comes to this. An eastern society follows the above rule to the T unlike western society. For example, in America, the ideologies of the people have changed over time such as, unwavering respect for your parents. American s used to respect their parents at the expense of their own happiness. Over time, America has grown more individualistic and have lost respect for their elders. However, in eastern traditions respect for the family and elders has stayed true well into the 21st ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. system theory One of the biggest breakthroughs in how we understand and guide change in organizations is systems theory and systems thinking. There are two main definitions of a system, an implicit and an explicit phrase, with the explicit phrase being used in system thinking by organizations. The definition refers to a systemas being a collection of highly integrated parts or subsystems that attain a specific goal, through inputs that are processed into precise outputs. And thus if a part of this highly linked system is changed, the overall system is also changed. This is what s meant by a system being systemic, i.e. relating and affecting the system as a whole. Mathematical systems theory arose from the development of isomorphism between the models of electrical circuits and other systems. Applications include engineering, computing, ecology, management, and family psychotherapy. Systems analysis, developed independently of systems theory, applies systems principles to aid a decision maker with problems of identifying, reconstructing, optimizing, and controlling a system (usually a socio technical organization), while taking into account multiple objectives, constraints and resources. It aims to specify possible courses of action, together with their risks, costs and benefits. Systems theory is closely connected to cybernetics, and also to system dynamics, which models changes in a network of coupled variables Depending upon the problem situation, the system needs to be conceptualized using either the mechanistic, organismic, cultural or political metaphors (Flood and Jackson, 1991) or a combination of these. Thus, a theory of physical systems can help us in developing a mechanistic view of the systems to begin with, which can then be developed further by using other approaches along with the physical system theory. • 13. Commentary on Through the Tunnel Essay In the short story Through the Tunnel by Doris Lessing a young boy named Jerry takes on the risky challenge of swimming through a narrow and long underwater tunnel on his holiday at the beach. It is an interesting story with a variety of remarkable characters. In the story, Jerry is on holiday at the beach with his mother, when he sees a group of older men diving through an underwater tunnel. This fascinates him so he starts practicing to hold his breath and dive until he can be like them. When he finally tries, he finds out how difficult it is and almost drowns. The rising action starts as he swims into the tunnel for the first time. The climax is when he almost drowns. He must go on into the blackness ahead, or he would drown. His ... She worries that she is being too protective and that he is old enough to look after himself. Lessing is sympathetic towards her characters and she shows this in many ways. The story is mostly written in the limited third person from Jerry s point of view, but there are a few parts where it briefly goes into the mother s point of view. She was thinking, Of course he s old enough to be safe without me. Have I been keeping him too close? He mustn t feel he ought to be with me. I must be careful. It is written from Jerry s point of view so that we can experience his pain and suffering as he is swimming through the tunnel but on the other hand to understand why he wanted to take on this challenge in the first place. The story takes place in a warm, foreign country where Jerry and his mother are staying at a villa for their summer holidays. The beach gives it a warm and relaxed feeling, but as Jerry dives down deeper towards and into the tunnel the mood becomes colder and darker. The theme of this short story is to set goals and not to give up on them. Every day, we set goals and try to attain them but Lessing might also be trying to warn us not to be too go too far trying to keep up with our goals. • 14. Accounting 504 Discussion Questions Week 2 1.) What is meant by the term double entry accounting? Examples are great and try to build on what each other has said. Double entry accounting is based on the fact that every financial transaction has equal and opposite effects in at least two different accounts. In the double entry system, transactions are recorded in terms of debits and credits. Since a debit in one account will be offset by a credit in another account, the sum of all debits must therefore be exactly equal to the sum of all credits. The double entry system of bookkeeping or accounting makes it easier to accurately prepare financial statements directly from the books of account and detect errors. For example: A company borrows a loan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... | 5000 | | Supplies| 1200| | Account Payable| | 1200| Rent Expense| 8000| | | | | Total| $14200 | $ 14200| 4.) What are adjusting entries and why are they important?| | | | | | Adjusting entries are usually made on the last day of an accounting period so that the financial statements reflect the revenues that have been earned and the expenses that were incurred during the accounting period. The purpose of each adjusting entry is to get both the income statement and the balance sheet to be correct. An example of adjusting entry: a customer paid a company in advance of receiving goods or service, the amount is reported as a liability. After the goods or services are delivered, an adjusting entry is needed to reduce the liability and to report the revenues. 5.) Cash basis vs Accrual basis The difference between accrual and cash basis accounting is the timing of when revenue and expenses are recognized. The cash method is most used by small businesses and for personal finances. The cash method for revenue is only used when the money is received and expenses are only used when the money is paid out. Amidst the civil unrest that occurred prior to the beginning of The Handmaid s Tale, the Sons of Jacob were able to establish their theocratic society by executing insidious machinations calculated to control the United States, and thereafter successfully turning it into Gilead. The Sons of Jacob employed several schemes in carrying out their theocracy over Gilead, a substantial part of which shall be discussed in this paper. Perhaps the most important act of the regime in gaining control of the society is the prohibition of reading by most women. They practically blocked the access towards literacy, which the majority enjoyed in the once democratic United States of America. From this, it was clear that the new regime was more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The answer to the above stated question may seem to be hard, but a careful perusal to the history of Gilead would reveal that the change brought about by the Sons of Jacob was gradual and calculated. It was not done overnight. The terrorist attack brought about panic among the populace. The dazed public, with no leader to govern them, was puzzled at the current state of things and needed equilibrium to restore their respective inner peace. This power vacuum served as the cue for the Sons of Jacob to come in. Their cunning circumvented the wisdom of the public and covered under to veil of restoring peace to America. The population were of course more than willing to benefit from the help being offered by these Christians. The Sons of Jacob were religious in stature, so majority of people believed them, and not to mention the additional motivation of drawing power from them in the time of crisis. With the euphoria of being saviours from such a tragic state, the group was able to slowly exercise control towards the populace by first suspending the power of the Constitution, taking away the right to read (for some), setting a caste system for everyone to follow, among others. Again, the heavy influence of language in society can be seen here since the vessel in proper execution of the multifarious plans of the new leaders had something to do with language (in ... • 16. Autochthony In Leif Enger s Peace Like A River The story of American Literature, much like the journey of the Land family in Leif Enger s novel, Peace Like a River, is a story of autochthony. But in both cases, that autochthony is permitted by some stronger force. America has grown to be a uniquely autochthonous nation as a result of the profound belief of her people in their exceptional nature. Simultaneously, the influence of other nations and people is the catalyst for growth in America and American Literature throughout history. The Colonial period of American Literature is laced strongly with religion and the establishment of a national history. Both the Puritans and the Pilgrims lived their lives passionately devoted to living out the Bible as they interpreted it, and found their identity deeply rooted in religion. The Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, under the guidance of John Winthrop, were to serve as an example, a city on a hill, and all of civilization was to take note. Throughout Peace Like a River, Reuben Land looks upon Jeremiah s intense faith with the same reverence that Winthrop intended the world to look upon his civilization with. Reuben, watching his father pace beyond the bounds of the truck bed, is astonished when he does not fall, but instead continues walking on the hand of God (Enger 18). During this moment, Reuben must have felt the same alarm and subsequent astonishment that those watching Winthrop build his miniature empire felt. Both Winthrop and Jeremiah Land walked ... There has been previous studies that have indicated that the rest gene influences gene expression. Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook have taken it upon themselves to determine if it is in fact true. By using methods like zinc finger nuclease and quantitative PCR, they were able to find reliable evidence that: rest in zebrafish does have an influencing affect on neural specific geneexpression but it fails to have many significant effects on zebrafish neurogenesis. First of all, lets look at why exactly scientists choose to work on zebrafish. Zebrafish was chosen by George Streisinger who was looking for a vertebrae model system to do work on genetics. It would appear that zebrasfish have some qualities that particularly makes them an exceptional choice for study. They are easy to maintain, manipulate (ability to microinject DNA, RNA and proteins into) and have many offspring rather rapidly. Another really interesting quality of zebrafish is that in the first few days of embryonic development, embryons are transparent, which allows imaging of cell movement and gene expression. Embryos also develop rather quickly; therefore scientists could do testing sooner then would be capable if mammals were used. Now lets look at what exactly is the rest protein. One of the fundamental problems with Canadian hockey teams competing with their American counterparts is that Canadian teams pay all of the player s salaries and travel are in American currency. However, all the revenue from ticket sales, concessions and advertising is in Canadian currency. American teams have an advantage over their Canadian counterparts because all the money that was created from ticket sales, concessions and selling advertising is one third more than what Canadian teams will make. This is because of a weaker Canadian dollar, 69 cents to one American dollar, means that Canadian franchises will always make one third less from basic franchise profits as long as the Canadian dollar stays the same. The teams are among Canada s fewest businesses that pay most of their salaries and expenses in U.S. dollars out of revenue earned in depressed Canadian dollars (May p 2). Marijuana has been outlawed, and the potential benefits from legalization outweigh the detriments of criminalization. Marijuana can be decriminalized by affecting the general consensus of the public through social media and removing cannabisfrom Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. There are many benefits of decriminalizing marijuana, from the ability to tax to the overall fixing of a historic problem; however, there is much more the illegality of marijuana imposes. The idea of marijuana being legalized resulting in increased drug usage rates is a fallacy. Marijuana legalization will not necessarily skyrocket the rate of which Americans use marijuana: the observed usage rate in America is 11%, while Norway, a country where the drug is legalized, has an observed rate of 7% (Marijuana Legalization Leads to a Reduction in Crime). This information is pertinent because it nullifies the notion of increased drug use in America as a consequence of legalization; the common user of marijuana will continue usage independent of the legality. As stated by Nunkoo, Smith, and Ramkissoon (2013), researchers are increasingly making use of different theories to investigate this topic. A major reason for rising interest has been the increasing evidence that tourism development leads not only to positive, but also has the potential for negative outcomes at the local level (Lankford Howard, 1994). Throughout the reading of the play I kept thinking about the moral implications of the work they were doing and what might each individual character be thinking of it. There were two parts of the play that made me really come up with this question in particular. The first was in chapter 22 Hiroshima, when it was talking about the bombing of Hiroshima. I can agree with the idea that basing actions on morals can help to ensure that people are not being irrational in their thought processes and that people s needs are more likely put ahead of individual wants. If morals were not involved, then decisions would most likely be made depending on what would advance the position of that person the most or on other selfish wants. At the same time, without morals being looked at, many lives could be lost because there is no clear way to judge things and come up with an agreement. Without morals, it can be extremely tough to figure out right from wrong and how a group or individual should act. Conversely, by looking at it from the perspective that morals should not be the basis of decision making, you can see that if we don t use them, then many people can get hurt as a result. If people make choices without thinking of the consequences or about what is important to them and the people around them, the wrong choice may be made. While morals shouldn t be the only thing considered, they must be taken into account to ensure the right things are being done. If we only base our actions on morals, then some very important past discoveries may not have been made. Family Values and Structures in the Middle East Essay Family Values and Structures in the Middle East At the end of our program, classes are ending, and events are winding down, but emotions remain powerful. We will all face reentry, and deal with it in different ways, and I m sure that all of us are thinking about what this means personally. I do not know what the first thing is that may come to your mind when you think of home. Maybe you are scared that your little sibling took over while you were gone, and you will have to resolve this in a civil manner. Or, it could be that you are really looking forward to the mashed potatoes that mom is going to make, just the right way. The family is what engulfs and reflects these aspects of a society. It is affected by the political beliefs of a country, and it also reflects the social and economic standpoints in a society, most specifically women s status. As we recently learned from Dr. Carmocolias, kinship, or the family, is one of the two oldest and most important institutions in the world (religion is the other), and I find it quite interesting, because I found the most significant correlation between the two. Two main aspects that I found most influential on the family were religion, and foreign influence, and I will now summarize my findings in Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, and Greece. Turkey is a prime example of the division between urban and rural family life. This is a country that was greatly impacted by its rich history. The influx of Europeans, due to the commercial treaty of 1839, marked a period of rapid urbanization that changed family structures and brought opportunity for women in the workforce (Duben, 7). One point I concluded here was that the change in household structure mirrored the change in family structure. The European value of independence was adopted by urban upper class families, and this later showed in the architecture of the homes (Duben, 201). Family life in rural Turkey is still traditional, and maintains, for the most part, the patriarchal system. I interviewed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Economic Dequality In Corruption In Mexico THE (APPARENT) DECLINE IN CORRUPTION IN MEXICO Due to its current state, it is vital that one understands the political climate in which Mexico is currently struggling with, particularly in regards to the unfortunate corruption within the government. Although many different factors have contributed to this problem, the two of most relevance in this essay are the economic situation and the activities of the drug cartels. In addition to how these events have led up to this moment, it is also necessary to analyze how these can potentially affect issues such as NAFTA, immigration and the possible second rise of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). First and foremost, in order to make an educated comparison, it is important to consider the events that have led up to the current state of corruption within the Mexican government. One particular aspect of this issue would be the overall condition of the nation s economy and how inequality has contributed to the bigger issue. For starters, there is a noticeable divide between the rich and poor, and this income gap has not improved for quite some time. Although Mexico is a country with substantial wealth, the income inequality causes this wealth to be concentrated amongst a select few[X]. Such an imbalance creates friction between these groups of people due to this sort of systematic hierarchy in which not all citizens are presented with the same opportunities. On one hand, he advocates an egalitarian man woman relationship, on the other, his notion of equality seems rather subject to qualification. His reference to the ideal monogamous partnership as phallic marriage (Spilka 7) is certainly a cue that must be taken up. Why is marriage phallic unless the phallus is privilegedin the expression of sexuality? Questions that many of the NASA crews ask themselves are : Is there water on Mars? What is the radiation on Mars like? And will it effect the exploration of Mars? How can we get humans to Mars safely? These questions are being asked by space agencies all around the world, however, the question that is getting more attention is : Will there ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I still strongly believe that, in my lifetime, there will be no humans living on Mars. To add to my stance, I have a strong opinion that no humans will even touch down on Mars surface in the 21st century. Though I have this dominant stance, I still believe NASA and the other space agencies need to continue to explore our red neighboring planet. Mars may just be the only other planet in our solar system that has a chance of having human life on it and we may be closer than ever to the ultimate goal : getting humans to ... • 52. The Effect Of Temperature Increases Due On Anthropogenic... Abstract The purpose of this article by Diffenbaugh et.al. is to determine how temperature increases due to anthropogenic warming change the probability of precipitation deficits that cause severe drought conditions, and determine what the conditions will look like in the future. They used historical precipitationand temperature data with Palmer Drought Metrics and global climate models to attempt to answer this question. It was found that in the past twenty years, the frequency of drought years has doubled, without any significant change in the trends of precipitation variability. This was attributed to significant increases in positive temperature anomalies causing an increased frequency of precipitation deficits leading to more occurrences of drought years. Global climate modeling suggested that by 2030, the region will transition to a regime where there is a 100% risk that all future dry years will coincide with warmer conditions, increasing the risk of extended drought conditions. This is not the first time this region has experienced prolonged drought conditions. However, it is the first time the drought has been this severe. Since 1977, the per capita water usage has decreased such that in 2013 the water demand is similar to that of 1977, meaning that it will be very difficult to come up with new short term water conservation ideas. • 53. Reading Comprehension Strategy Of Inferring Essay Making Inferences WHY: Purpose of Lesson: The purpose of this lesson is to introduce students to the reading comprehension strategy of inferring. The students will learn how to use textual evidence combined with their own background knowledge to make inferences about various aspects of a text including characters, setting, theme, and plot. Common Core State Standards: CCSS.ELA LITERACY.RL.5.1: Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text. Goals/Objectives of Lesson: What do you hope for/expect? In a small group setting, each student will make at least 3 inferences about various scenarios and pictures through writing and speaking. Following a teacher s model, each student will write their own short scenario that will be used for their classmates to make inferences about. When reading a selected chapter from the book, Wonder, students will use a graphic organizer to make at least two written inferences by filling in all three columns of the organizer (what is stated, what I already know, and my inference). Extension Activity: Each student will create a short story (either written or verbal) based on their inferences about a picture that will be provided by the teacher. Context of the Lesson: Where does this lesson fall in what is currently being taught? This is the students second week of academics, and this will be their first experience in fifth grade with making inferences. Up until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Cultural Change Of The Vietnam War As America was fighting a war for freedom in another country, unruly teens were fighting their own at home. Cultural change, the explosion of free love, youthful rebellion, and a new liberal mindset all seemed to have one underlying device in common; drug use. The late 1960 s into the early and mid 70 s found the perfect environment for recreational druguse. Music and arts celebrated this lifestyle, as well as free thinkers and their idiotic philosophies about spiritual elation through mind altering narcotics. Lack of family structure with so many homes transformed by the Vietnam War also left young teens without guidance, and an economy with little to offer to the up and coming generation. As the next few years passed and the free love generation began to grasp the concept of working for a living, showering on a regular basis, love with commitment (or antibiotics), and cultural change through policy, they brought to the workforce a new dynamic not previously prevalent. Recreational drug usehad become part of society. Vietnam War veterans also brought their own demons home with their return, opiate addictions were a common occurrence (Carson 2012). This new dynamic was seen initially in 1971 by the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA) spearheaded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The survey indicated that many illegal drug users were employed full or part time. The initial survey was used to try and understand the scope of the problem, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
