The Use Of Electroencephalographic ( Eeg ) Signals For...
Introduction
This thesis is devoted to an investigation of the use of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals for
biometric person recognition. The traditional ways of access control include using token based
identification systems, such as a driver s license or passport, and knowledge based identification
systems, such as a password or personal identification number [1]. Biometric person recognition,
however, relies on human physiological and/or behavioural characteristics for establishing identity. A
range of such distinctive, measurable characteristics can be used have been successfully used to
recognize individuals. Biometric modalities/identifiers are considered to be unique to individuals: they
may be more reliable in verifying identity than token and knowledge based methods [1].
One limitation of the specially designed database is the number of subjects included for data capture
using the low cost sensor system. The self collected database contains 27 subjects with recordings
from multiple sessions made on different days, which may still not be large enough to justify the
statistical significance of the obtained results. Furthermore, due to the quality of the data from the low
cost sensor, it can be predicted that with the number of subjects further increasing, the recognition
performance of the EEG biometric system tends to reduce.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a recording of the electrical activities of the brain along the scalp,
which is generally considered

John Updike’s A P
The nineteen fifties marked the era of differences between the parents and their children. Not until the
nineteen sixties was there turning point in the nation. The generation gaps are the differences amongst
the younger generation and their elders, and mainly amongst children and their parents. Generation
gap still occurs today, in thing varying from behavior, to genres of music, and even in usage of
language. The new generations try to express themselves as something different from the old,
embracing new slang, trying to form a separation between themselves and the previous generation. In

his job. Sammy also sees Lengel as someone who doesn t miss much Sunday school superintendent.
Lengel hides in his office all day. Lengel tries to explain to Sammy when he quits that he is hurting his
parents, and that Lengel has known Sammy s parents for years, Sammy, you don t want to do this to
your mom and Dad (Updike 1171). Sammy realizes that he doesn t want to do this to his parents, but
Sammy is his own person. Sammy rebels against the store, because how Lengel treated the three girls.
Lengel criticizes the girls because they are wearing bathing suits. The bathing suits symbolize the girls
neglect of the social rules of their small town. For Sammy the bathing suits symbolize freedom and a

Relationship Between Science And Science
Policymakers use science daily to inform decisions that affect our health and safety. Scientists are
confronted with greater demands for productivity and effectiveness from industrialists, social actors,
and policymakers, who are expecting answers to diverse issues afflicting present day lives: from
human diseases to environmental perils, technological needs, or public controversies. At the same
time, there are growing fears from the public vis à vis the side effects of modern scientific and
technological innovations. These concerns are not incompatible but provide the basis for recognizing
the role of science in democratic societies (Pereira, 2004).
The relationship between science and democracy is an age old conundrum with continuing public
controversy and a fruitful but difficult co existence (MacLeod, 1997). As Fischer explains, democracy
and science are both characteristics of the Western society and the tension between them is a long
standing critical theme in contemporary politics (Fischer, 2003). While democracy represents open
discussion on the part of all citizens, science has always represented the sphere of the knowledge
society. While democracy strives to promote a broad array of viewpoints and perspectives, science for
its part, attempts to restrict the number of participants seeking the right answer or assessment (ibid,
2003).
As more countries attempt to run their governments on democratic principles with their performance
failing to meet the growing

The And Doing Well By Doing Good
Virtuousness and Doing well by doing good. Many of the individuals we presented to operated under
the widely held assumption that organizations which act virtuously and do the right thing are at a
competitive disadvantage to those that do not. We delivered the good news that this is largely
incorrect. For instance, organizations with higher perceived levels of virtuousness have much higher
profitability (Cameron, Bright, Caza, 2004), and CEOs who rated high on four moral principles
integrity, responsibility, forgiveness, and compassion had an average return on assets of 9.35 versus
1.93 for those with low ratings (Leadership: Measuring the return on character, 2015). Perceived
virtuousness also has a strong positive correlation with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why? Research on social networks demonstrates that the people you spend time with shape your
emotional state, your values, and your actions (Christakis Fowler, 2009). Furthermore, research has
identified a cluster of organizational values that promote virtuousness and are closely related to the
four moral principles held by CEOs in high performing organizations: contribution, trust, compassion,
integrity, and forgiveness (Cameron, Bright, Caza, 2004; Keane). We reinforced this message by
emphasizing that individuals and organizations are providing themselves with a rare source of
sustainable competitive advantage when acting virtuously and enabling virtuousness within the
organization. Indeed, you can do well by doing good. Approach versus Avoidance Goals and
Organizational Policy. We summarized the research findings on goal orientation to introduce the basic
idea that focusing on what you do not want (not breaking the law and going to prison, in this context)
is an ineffective way to get what you do want (flourishing in life, for example). To demonstrate that
this is more than semantics, we often ask the participants to take a few moments and visualize a life of
not going to prison. The responses were always revealing: participants consistently reported not seeing
much of anything when attempting to visualize this obvious don t want, illustrating the brain s
inability to mentally represent avoidance goals. To aid participants in

Melodrama and Heaven Allows Essay
Both Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Todd Haynes have drawn on Sirk s film melodramas in their
films. Discuss the differences and similarities between their uses of Sirkian melodrama in their films
Ali: Fear Eats the Soul and Far From Heaven. In developing your analysis you should engage with
theoretical debates about these filmmakers s work and theories of melodrama, and you should support
your analysis through close reading of the films
Douglas Sirk, a Danish German film director, is best known for being the father of Melodrama. He is
commonly referred to as a master of the weepie (Willemen 1972) and has been an inspiration and
paved the way for other directors to use and adapt his work. One film that has been embraced and

In this way, audiences are made aware that if it weren t for Cathy losing the scarf, they would have
never embarked on their journey together.
Williams also states that victim heroes are the focus of melodramas through recognition of the
character s virtue, where the victim s point of view is the main concentration of melodrama. The
protagonist s moral virtue ultimately causes immense suffering, thus causing audiences to empathise
with them (Williams 1998). In Far From Heaven, it is Cathy who is the virtuous individual who
silently suffers to maintain equilibrium within her family and society at large. This is conveyed
throughout the film as each event leads us to Cathy s (the victim) recognition as virtuous through her
suffering (Skvirsky 2008). In the first half of the film, Cathy decides she will do well by her husband
Frank by bringing his dinner to the office as he is working late. Just as she arrives at his office late at
night, Cathy discovers her husband, to her surprise romantically involved with another man. In the
latter part of the film, Frank confronts Cathy. He demands to know whether rumours she had spent the
afternoon with a man of colour, Raymond Deagon are true. Through the course of these events, Cathy

How Did Primo Levi Survive The Holocaust
Rough Draft Surviving the holocaust was almost impossible but some manage to do so. Many people s
lives were changed due to one tragic event. While analyzing Primo Levi s life, we can conclude that
he was depressed by the torture he experienced in Auschwitz. His depression got worst as the years
went on. Primo Levi was born in 1919 in Turin. He was an Italian, an atheist, and a Jew. He went to
the University of Turin and graduated with chemistry Ph.D. Levi wasn t fond of the Italian literature
program (Paris Review). He says in an interview that he always loved chemistry. Primo Levi was a
man with very many friends, who nevertheless was isolated from the world by his depression

When Primo Levi returned to Italy from the concentration camp, he was very eager to write all about
his experience that he wrote his first book. His first book that was published in 1947 was Survival in
Auschwitz. His cousin Anna Yona helped him by giving it to her editor at Little, Brown and Company
(jochnowitz). In this book, Primo Levi talks about every minute spent in Auschwitz. Primo Levi had a
very difficult time publishing this book. He makes the reader feel that they were there with him every
step survival. He does not write Survival in Auschwitz with any rage but instead with crucial facts.
Primo Levi does not talk about any hatred towards the Germans. He believes that his actions and
thoughts be the product, as far as possible, of reason (new republic). He knew that if he detested the
Germans he would be following the precepts of Nazism (new republic). All the different mentalities
needed in order to survive are explained in this book. Levi states that in order to survive Auschwitz
one must retain one s mental sanity, one must focus on small distractions ( ). Primo Levi s publishes
his second book The Reawakening 15 years later. This book is basically the older brother of Survival
in Auschwitz. The Reawakening and Survival in Auschwitz shares the same stories in the book. This
book was originally named the truce but later changed to the Reawakening. Primo Levi refers the

Voyager 1 Research Paper
The Mission Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 set off in different months from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The
original purpose was to get close up views on Jupiter and Saturn, Saturn s rings and the bigger of 2
moons. The spacecrafts were built to last 5 years, but as this mission went on they sent back data of
objects in space and have reached our outermost planets of the solar system. The mission was on to a
whole different level. For this all to happen in the first place there had to be extreme calculations of
when the planets orbited and met each other so the voyager would see it. This asstonishing occurrence
happens about 1 out of 175 years.
History of the Mission Voyager 2 was launched a few months before Voyager 1 in 1977. Voyager 1
was launched faster than 2 so it over took Voyager 2. Voyager mission to Jupiter and Saturn brought
Voyager 1 to Jupiter on March 5, 1979, and Saturn on November 12, 1980, Shortly after that Voyager
2 to Jupiter on July 9, 1979, and Saturn on August 25, 1981. Voyager 1 was meant to go to Saturn s
rings while voyager 2 was supposed to go by Saturn right to Uranus. In 1986 Voyager 2 finally
reached Uranus. Voyager 1 was going outward viewing planetary space. Voyager 1 is currently leaving
the solar system on its way to the Asteroid Belt traveling at 320,000 million miles per year! They

Disadvantages Of Eutrophication
1. Introduction:
In the following research paper, the parameters of how eutrophication develops will be discussed to
acquire an understanding of this phenomenon. In addition, preventative and control methods will be
looked at in order to devise a plan of action against eutrophication.
In an aquatic ecosystem most of the nutrients are well balanced with the biodiversity of organisms.
[FIND DISCOURSE MARKER TO ADD TWO SENTENCES] These aquatic ecosystems become
disrupted when eutrophication (the presence of excessive and unwanted nutrients), occurs. Nutrients
from agricultural, industrial and urban areas enter a drainage basin (streams, rivers, lakes, dams and
ultimately, the ocean) by means of run off and groundwater. Certain organisms; for example,
phytoplankton and algae, benefit from these nutrients which causes them to reproduce faster and
amalgamate, forming a dense layer on the surface of the water. As a result, sunlight and oxygen cannot
enter the water, causing extremely high carbon dioxide concentration levels and very low oxygen
concentration levels. Due to a lack of oxygen, aerobic organisms experience hypoxia or suffocation
and die.
According to Setmire et al., (2000) there is a misconception when it comes to the toxicity of a body of
water and eutrophication. The increase of toxins and eutrophication in water affects the quality of the

Natural eutrophication occurs when a body of water builds up nutrients over a long period of time,
enabling it to sustain and support multiple living organisms. Algae then starts to form, damaging the
ecosystem and decreasing the quality of the water. Cultural eutrophication; on the other hand, is
caused purely by external human interference; such as, domestic and industrial waste being dumped
into rivers of lakes and uprooting trees making the soil dry and loose, causing an excess of nutrients
being run off into drainage

Can Hybrid Cars Can Improve Fuel Efficiency And Save The...
Can hybrid cars can improve fuel efficiency and save the environment? A debate has recently arisen;
are hybrid automobiles that much more fuel efficient than the average car, and is the higher sticker
price worth the investment? Questions have also been asked about the hope of reducing environmental
pollution. Are government rebates and dealer incentives worth the additional investment of purchasing
these higher priced cars? What is the adoption rate among consumers to these automobiles? Gas
mileage can be defined as: how many miles a car or truck can travel on one gallon of gasoline
(Marland English, 2015). As fossil fuels continue to be depleted, our civilization must look at cost
efficient ways to accomplish daily tasks. Hybrid cars use a combination of the gasoline engine with
electronic motors to achieve a number of objectives. This differs from the new totally electricity
powered cars that run on charged batteries. According to www.fueleconomy.gov; a vehicle that gets 30
MPG will cost you $545 less to fuel each year than one that gets 20 MPG, assuming 15000 miles of
driving annually and a fuel cost of $2.18 ( Save Money , 2015). Over time this can lead to huge
savings in fuel costs to the average consumer. As oil prices continue to rise and fall, a more fuel
efficient car could provide some comfort to the financially stressed customer. A person must take into
consideration if the savings in fuel costs are worth the higher investment price of a hybrid. On
average,

Power Of The Indian Ocean
Power Struggle 18. In the 21st century the interests and influence of China, India, and the US are
beginning to intersect and overlap thereby this region is bound to become epitome of international
conflicts and power dynamics. The presence of the three powers in the Indian Ocean is shown at
Appendix Q attached. The littoral countries are going to play a major role in the ongoing power
struggle because of their strategic locations. It is clearly evident that of the three most influential
countries, it is China who is making forays in the domain of other countries and projecting its power
in the far flung areas. The point to ponder is Is this Showcase of Power a Case of Expansionist China
or Is it Economic Necessity of China . In the present situation it is a mix of both. Before moving any
further it is vital to analyze the conflicting situation in the region. 19. In the case of China till now the
focus continues to be on the Pacific and not on the IOR with principal interest at this juncture in the
need to protect the Sea Lanes of Communications (SLOCS) along the Indian Ocean, vital for the
country s energy imports. The seaward drive of China can be attributed to the twin propellants of
geopolitics and economics . Off late China through its soft power diplomacy has begun to shape the
IOR strategic environment, by providing large loans on generous repayment terms and investing in
major infrastructure projects. In addition by offering military assistance and political

Superheroes In The Watchmen Character Analysis
I heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he s depressed. Life seems harsh, and cruel. Says he feels
all alone in threatening world. Doctor says: Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town.
Go see him. That should pick you up. Man bursts into tears. But doctor... he says I am Pagliacci. Good
joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains (Moore. 64).
The quote is a perfect representation of how complex and psychologically damaged the characters
truly are, proof of their sad and lonesome lives. Almost all of the characters had some sort of dark and
significant event which allowed them to become what they are known as. Thus, transforming them
into characters hardly any normal person can relate with, a chain each one of the characters must bear.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (Who watches the watchmen?) Superheroes in the Watchmen are given
liberties to enact certain rules, but how does the public really know if said heroes are following the
same rules they abide. It is a testament to the large amount of power granted to certain authoritative
figures and how that said figure is able to abuse that power. I believe that these two quotes in a way,
coincide, while the Watchmen are rescuing others, who is there to rescue the Watchmen? That sad and
unpleasant truth is evidence, that in the end, there is simply no one that can offer Pagliacci the
treatment he desperately needs.
Is this what happens to us? A life of conflict with no time for friends... so that when it s done, only our
enemies leave roses (Moore. 43).
Stated by Rorschach after the death of the Comedian, the quote represents the burdens of a busy life of
crime fighting and its effect towards the man under the mask. The Comedian, due to his behavior and
lack morals, was disliked by the heroes fought beside him, thus, often being lonely. In itself is a
tragedy, that the character who is named The Comedian , was never really happy, despite always
having a grin and his signature smiley face button.

dreamt all night about monstrous waves like in the movies, and gliding along side dolphins as they
played in the ocean. That morning I woke up like it was Christmas, early, energized, curious, and
excited. In preparation, I put on my swimsuit and practiced paddling and popping up on my

soft sand, and took over five minutes.
Eventually, we were ready to make our first surfing memories. Mason was elected to go first since he

Review on Brahms s Third Symphony Essays
Review on Brahms s Third Symphony
Symphony No.3, Johannes Brahms (1833 1897)
Op.90, F Major
Allegro con brio
Andante
Poco allegretto allegro Brahms was at the zenith of his powers when he wrote the third Symphony. He
finished it during the summer of 1883, in Wiesbaden, whence in early May, soon after his fiftieth
birthday. We can picture Brahms that summer, in the very prime of his life, his great intellectual and
emotional powers fully developed and his mastery widely acknowledged, walking much about
Wiesbaden, mediating the strong and happy music that is third symphony by Brahms.

Three phrases of the tune which was given to clarinets and bassoons, has its cadence echoed by low
strings. Passages developed from the first theme then led gradually to its return in its original calm
mood after a brief climax. A brief coda was made by a new and happy melody referring to the main
theme.
The third movement was lighter than any of the other movements. But the middle section referred to
the single note motive which was grown as symphony progressed.
With the finale the grand returned, peoples were at once concerned with weighty issues. The
suspension was highly impressive making peoples feel something great impending. The themes were
many and various. But they flowed from one to another smoothly. Then the movement was fully
developed as the exuberant conclusion theme came out, fast and furiously. There also followed a
series of developments some ingenious and some powerful. Then the movement went into end. The
loud horn proclamation died slowly through sublet changing harmonies, until by a modulation. Then
the entire color and atmosphere of the music changed to half light. The original halting form of the
theme recurred briefly but only for a moment. With the development of the melody, in slow rhythm,
soft entrances of four initial motives echoed from bass to treble leading to a timid but happy and
confident reaffirmation of the motto from the first

What I Learned From The Video Essay
Video Summary
What I learned from the video is the following.
Have access to my money
Know where important information is kept.
Have an emergency bag with important items in.
I have not thought about having access to my own money as such of a important step after a disaster
like Katrina. When banks are everywhere I never thought having access to my money is such of
important step to getting back on my feet. Most of the times when I visit my bank all I need to have
access to my account is my social security number.
Most of my important information like birth certificate, social security, immunization records, tax
documents and health insurance is kept in a brief case under my parents bed. This includes both my
parents and siblings. I think it would be better to turn this information into digital version and save
them into a thumb drive or even upload them to a safe cloud database in order to have access to this
information anywhere there is internet access. From watching the video, having access to information
like this is important to stablish my identity in order to get help like social security benefits and FEMA
benefits when a natural disaster strikes.
Also from the video I realized that having an emergency bag ready to go incase of an emergency is
important. This bag should include a change of clothes, family members contact information a type of
identification and money in cash.

Analysis Of A Stolen Life By Jaycee Dugard
A Stolen Life, a book written by Jaycee Dugard, goes in depth into her eighteen years of captivity at

morning, she is kidnapped by a couple in California near her home. Jaycee accounts her experiences
with Phillip which include gruesome tales of sexual abuse and manipulation. Jaycee on many accounts
describes the terrible conditions she is kept in on her first few days in captivity, her captor leaves her
naked in handcuffs on the floor for 2 days before the sexual assaults begin, and these assaults

One example of rhetoric I discovered while reading was, metaphors. As she states many times, she
believes everything can be applied to as a metaphor during her recovery time, one experience she had
was, she has come up with the idea of lighting candles to symbolize my past, present, and future. My
past and present were the two candles we started with; she would ask me what I would like to start
with or deal with today. I would light up either my past or my present depending on the answer.
During the last few sessions, we ve used the candles I ve noticed my past melting more and more and
becoming duller and duller in light. Jaycee s recovery is very important to her as she watches herself
grow more and more comfortable with living freely and out of the controlling grips of Phillip. Before,
Jaycee was unknowingly reliant of Phillip for everything, for food, for safety, for assurance. Jaycee, as
a developing woman during this time, began to cling to this lifestyle and while she is breaking from
these habits of reliance, she begins to see her past being overcome in many aspects in the real

Great Gatsby Disillusionment Analysis
The Great Gatsby is a tale of of the rich and their fantastical fancies. This novel has become
representative of America s roaring twenties and Fitzgerald praised posthumously for his work.
However, Sven Birkets states that The Great Gatsby is a story of disillusionment and hope and I must
say that I agree with this assertion. By reading carefully and looking into the hidden messages of The
Great Gatsby, readers will begin to have a glimpse into the heads of the rich, seeing and feeling their
outlandish problems and pastimes. Jay Gatsby is a prime example of these fevered dreams and the
Buchanans represent how deceiving these illusions can be at their point of culmination. Gatsby spent
all of his time after the war dreaming of Daisy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which Gatsby just can t see or understand. To him Daisy loved only him and no one could compare,

some force... That force took shape in the middle of spring with the arrival of Tom Buchanan. (151)
Daisy grew up over in those short years that Gatsby was away, and with her maturity came a change
that would eventually pierce the wonderful world of Gatsby. The Buchanan family was the result of
this change, although the couple has quiet disputes, as all marriages contain, they remained together
and strong. Their bond remaining strong was when Gatsby finally began to become disillusioned with
his paradise, but he was determined and hopeful to the bitter end. Throughout the novel, Gatsby is
throwing parties and hoping Daisy will wander in, he finally finds a link to her in Nick and hopes she
will sit with him in front of a fireplace one more time, and even when defeated by Tom, Gatsby
remains ever faithful, watching over Daisy all through the night. This fighting spirit is held back by

The Rise of Earthquakes in Oklahoma Essay
The Rise of Earthquakes in Oklahoma With earthquakes on the rise, we must figure out the cause of
them and determine a solution to help limit or even prevent them from occurring. Since early 2009,
earthquakes have been sweeping across the state of Oklahoma, causing many people to worry about
their own well being. Many scientists speculate the source of the earthquakes might be a result of
Hydraulic Fracturing deep down in Earths crust. Hydraulic fracturing is a process in which oil and

Areas that have become a prime source for these quakes are being heavily surveyed for signs of
structural damage along with potential changes and repairs by home inspectors. Seismologists have
recorded that most Oklahoma earthquakes generally strike within the 2.5 3.0 magnitude on average.
While some have been recorded to spike up much higher which could potentially cause structural
damage to homes. Earthquakes of large magnitude have the potential to create large scale destruction
to homes, which do not meet building code requirements for earthquakes of this magnitude. It has
implications for calculated risks of seismic hazard, and it will have an economic impact on the state if
people have to start building to more stringent design standards (Brus). Many scientists from around

fracking. Hydraulic fracturing is a process in which millions of gallons of wastewater are pumped

Hunting Should Not Be Banned
In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by
sportsmen ( MARC FOLCO: Some hunting, fishing quotes to live by ). Hunters are the leading source
for all conservation programs. Theodore Roosevelt was one of the most passionate hunters. People put
down hunting like it s a bad thing. Many hunters contribute billions of dollars the the economy.
Hunting should not be banned because of the positive impacts it has on society. Through strictly
regulated hunting we have reintroduced and repopulated various game species into areas where they
were previously wiped out due to extremely excessive hunting by settlers. In the early 1900s all of
Indiana s whitetail deer were virtually extinct. By the 1930s whitetail deer were beginning to be
reintroduced into Indiana. In just 20 years after initial reintroduction the population was at a
sustainable level so that regulated modern hunting programs could begin. Conservationism has been a
necessity to the ecology of the United States and many other countries around the world. The U.S.
Forest Service by itself manages 193 million acres of public land nationwide or roughly 8% of the
total land in the United States. The management of this land would not be feasible without the funding
hunters provide through licenses, tags, and stamps. The 193 million acres does not include any public
recreational land on the state level. There is 2,260,380 acres of public hunting land in all the states

The Age Of Mccarthyism By Joseph Mccarthy
The Age of McCarthyism marks a sinister period of time consisting of convoluted accusations and
fabrication of a sensitive topic regarding communist infiltration within America. Joe McCarthy s
unfounded allegations naming supposed communist subversives instilled fear and anxiety among
Americans. This was exacerbated by the anxiety associated with the concerns of an escalating Cold
War. McCarthy was motivated by his political ambition and thus used the anti communist crusade as a

In McCarthy s famous Wheeler speech in West Virginia, he stated he had a list of 205 names that were

McCarthy persevered and pushed to successfully become appointed as Chairman of the Government
Committee on Operations of the Senate, which was crucial in broadening the scope of his powers to
investigate subversives. He questioned numerous government departments and the paranoia and fear
produced from the witch hunts and fear of subversives infiltrating America resulted in it being titled
McCarthyism . McCarthy eventually began to lose his popularity and influence over America during
October of 1953 due to his controversial accusations against the U.S Army. When president Dwight D.
Eisenhower was elected, McCarthy s opinions became less of a focus in Media. Many news

Despite McCarthy leading his own anti communist crusade, without the implementation of the Smith

of experience in the coffee and management industry. Early on, Schultz addressed the lack of

and Commitment Another problem that Schultz faced was the issue of building a strong core of
employees throughout the company. Schultz found that as the company grew, it lacked strong
dedication from its employees. Starbucks had a high turnover rate, just like many other entry level

Starbucks lost through losing an employee and having to pay more to hire and train new ones, but also
losing team members. Schultz wanted to create an environment for Starbucks employees in which
they would want to stay in. Schultz had difficulties convincing Starbuck s Board of Directors to invest

When McGee began his career in the Air Force, African American s were still seen as unequal to white
Americans in every aspect. It wasn t until July 2, 1964, that President Johnson signed the Civil Rights
Act of 1964 that banned discrimination based on race. Previous to this, the Jim Crow laws were used
as justification for denying African Americans soldiers the opportunity to become pilots in the
military. Once this changed, a new door opened for colored pilots causing many to stay in the military
long after the war ended and turn it into a career, as McGee did. Although McGee s career began due
to WWII, it certainly did not end there. McGee went on to serve in Korea as well as Vietnam. By the
time McGee retired from the Air Force on January 31, 1973 he had earned awards such as the Oak
Leaf Cluster, and had six thousand three hundred hours of flying fighter jets. He went on to become
President of the Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated for two presidencies. This is significant because
McGee helped show the nation that African Americans are capable of being not only some of the best
airmen out there, but also some of the best leaders. He never quit in the journey to better himself and
helped pave the way for many African Americans who hold the dream to fly. In the long run, the color

Differences Between Ottawa And The Province Of Ottawa
Canada is made up of ten provinces and three territories. The territories are Northwest Territories,
Nunavut and Yukon. The Provinces include: Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, New Brunswick,
Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and Prince Edward
Island. Yukon. The major difference between a Canadian province and a Canadian territory is that a
province is a creation of the Constitution Act (17 April 1982), while a territory is created by federal
law. Thus, the federal government has more direct control over the territories (One World, 2014).
Ottawa is the capital city if Canada. Ottawa is located in the South East, in the province of Ontario,
and is the fourth largest city in Canada. Alberta is one of

How Did Rosalind Franklin Contribute To The Structure Of Dna
Who really discovered the structure of DNA? Though there were many scientists with contributions to
understanding the structure of DNA one scientist stood out above all others; Rosalind Franklin.
Although some people believed Watson and Crick made the most contributions to the discovery of the
structure of DNA, I believe Rosalind Franklin made the most contributions. Rosalind Franklin was the
scientist who took photos of DNA to figure out its form, proved phosphates are on the outside of DNA
strands, and performed calculations on DNA to prove DNA s structure. First, Rosalind Franklin was
able to take photos of DNA that helped in the discovery of the structure of DNA. Rosalind took photos
of DNA in a dry and wet state that helped to discovered the structure of DNA. When the DNA was
dry, the strands thickened to form a sharp scatter. When the DNA was wet the strands stretched to
form a distinctive x. The dry DNA took the form of a helix which helped her to conclude that the DNA
has phosphates. When Franklin took photos of DNA it was a huge milestone in the understanding of
the structure of DNA. Without photos of DNA there would be no evidence to prove any of the
scientists theories. Franklin s photos were a major step in figuring ... Show more content on

Watson and Crick were able to figure out the pairs of nucleotides before Franklin was able to figure it
out. This made sense that the base pairs are on the inside of the strands while the outside holds two
sugar phosphate strands. Watson and Crick, from looking at Rosalind s research, were also able to
conclude that DNA crystals could be flipped upside down and backwards, and still look the same
meaning the backbone to the structure must be identical and that they run in opposite directions. If no
one put all of the information together, we might not know everything about the structure of DNA that

Student At Depaul University For Three Years Now
Reflective Essay I have been a student at DePaul University for three years now. Over the course of
my stay I have grown and learned how to write essays as Biology major. This class pointed out to me
the things that science majors tend to neglect when they write their essays and lab reports; for
example, punctuation, and citation. This is something I ve gotten better at, but still improving. Most
importantly, I ve learned how to analyze a text. The scientific essays I am used to reading, rarely do I
have to read between the lines. It was hard but quite interesting to go read an essay and having to
break it down from the argument, to the tools used and the author s opinion even when not directly
stated. Throughout the course, I ve also learned how helpful it is to share your work with classmates. I
used to think only the professor had the beneficial feedback and would never bother asking people
from my class. However, I ve learned that they have a fresh perspective and could help. For example,
when I presented my research paper, I wasn t expecting any feedback that would be that helpful,
simply because I assumed the class wasn t familiar with my topic. However, I was surprised that not
only were some familiar, but they had questions about my topic, and when I responded to them I
automatically realized that unintentionally, they had just given me another argument to write about,
and my response was the counter argument. That is what happened when a girl asked me why

When the Watched Becomes the Watcher In the aftermath of September Eleventh, Americans
developed extreme prejudice towards people with Muslim beliefs. In Watched by Marina Budhos, we
see this discrimination towards the Muslim population, including the main character Naeem. Naeem
feels as if everyone looks at him with determination to prove him guilty with whatever crime possible.
He feels like he is being watched by the police and even his neighbors, putting him in the middle of
complete chaos. Everyone has traditions and customs that reflect their cultural background. In Naeem
s family they have unique practices, including praying rituals. I calm down. I see Abba has joined ...

I can hardly breathe now. My teeth hurt. This is a test, only this time, I m not confused. I know exactly
what he s asking of me. (Budhos 44). In this section of the book, Naeem is being asked to do a very
risky thing. He is being asked to become a watcher, a mosque crawler.(Budhos 45). This is evident of
others judging Naeem for his culture, because in this sense these policemen are taking advantage of
the fact that Naeem comes from a poor family and is need of money. Here Naeem makes a decision
that affects the entire novel. They went back to Bangladesh, what with all the trouble after 9/11.
(Budhos 104). Having the novel take place in this point and time creates this atmosphere of hatred and
fear towards muslims. This makes Naeem become a watcher because without this detail in the setting,
Muslims would not have become a target and Naeem would not have this tedious and dangerous job.
About a thousand a month. (Budhos 121). Naeem was chosen to do a job because of his cultural
background. He had little money, was in a lot of trouble, and had ways of getting into what the police
needed to know more about. The police took advantage of his needs, which would not have happened

This report is the outcome of a research created with the purpose of determining what impacts on
customers satisfaction and expectation of service, as well as to study the relationship between the
service nature, service quality, service failure, service recovery strategies and service guarantee.
Evidence of how effective the service quality measurement models, such as SERVQUAL and
SERVPREF, is also shown. The focus of this research is to show the main components of services,

Nowadays organisations recognise the importance of satisfying their customers needs and meeting
their expectations as the more complex the customer demand, the more there is need for service.
Although services are infused in every organisation s core, service failure still appears therefore,
service recovery strategies are essential in order for the organisations to overcome the situation. This
research intends to study the relation between customer service and organisation.
1.1 Service Nature
Service is an activity which normally takes place by interacting between the service employees and
the customer although a clear definition on services has always been immense to describe. An easy
way to understand services is by imagining service personnel as the actors in a play and the customers
as the audients (Lovelock, Vandermerwe, Lewis, 1999). There are two ways in which services can be
defined, such as service being an act of performance and as economic activities providing consumers
with benefits under specific circumstances. The importance of the service sector is obvious as 67% of
employees are directly employed in service jobs while more than half of those already employed in
manufacturing companies perform service function jobs. (Irons, 1997) Services have four key
characteristics such as intangibility, inseparability, variability/heterogeneity and perishability. This key
characteristics of services are used to describe the effect and

Paper About Turkeys
I believe the short film was made for a fun informative. The videographer took advantage of an
unusual topic and made the story interesting. The main point of the story was to show an average
neighborhood s day interrupted by random turkeys, leaving the neighborhood in astonishment. The
videographer demonstrates the story from the resident s point of view but mostly the woman s point of
view. I think that was the case because of how the woman was so delighted about the entire situation.
The story engages the audience by bringing curiosity of how the turkeys got there in the first place and
what are the turkeys going to do afterwards. Correspondingly, the videographer captures a long shot of
the turkeys walking out of the shot towards the pole. This video for starters, does a good job of
establishing the setting of the neighborhood with a sequence of a few basics shots. In the beginning
the viewers notices the long shot of the plane and the houses, a close up of the branch, and a cut away
of the American flag. The videographer also uses natural sound, catching the ... Show more content on

The videographer does a great job of focusing the camera on objects that make the neighborhood seem
average. For example, the plane flying by, the kid on the skateboard, and the ADT sign. Showing the
turkeys and the residents in a shot is essential for the audience to get an understanding that this event
is random and unexpected. Voice overs are important to the story by showing whoever is speaking at
the time, what they are doing. It basically creates a better understanding. I personally thought it was
cool how the videographer got a high shot for the ending of the video of the turkeys walking away.
Also, that shot specifically, was longer than normal in my opinion, for a theatrical affect. The fact that
the turkeys were roaming a neighborhood randomly was a perfect idea for any viewer s

Student Loan
In this essay, using the S.M.A.R.T. planning model (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic,
and timely), I will evaluate the Alice s goals of paying off student loan, buying a house and
saving for children s education, accumulating assets, retiring, and traveling around the world in
a sailboat. I will complete my evaluation with a comment.
To achieve these goals, Alice has to identify the timing of her goals. For example paying off
student loan is a short term goal, but accumulating assets is an intermediate goal and then buying
a house (paying off the house completely) and saving for children, along with the retiring plan
are long term goals.
To consider the S.M.A.R.T. model, Alice has to be realistic. Alice has $5,250 assets ... Show more

If she chooses the second job option, she will preserves any alternative that she would consider
in the future, because there is no risks involved. However, if she chooses the trip to Vegas, if she
loses, all her alternatives will be eliminated since she would go deeper in debts. Here we realize
that a risk is not just an option, but also a cost, and any available choice that someone might
preserve is a benefit.
In conclusion, when we consider Alice s feasible choices, and then we calculate the benefits,
explicit, implicit and strategic costs of each of her choices, we realize that Alice in general is not
in a bad shape. In my opinion, she should continue the way she is without any further action till
she pays off her student loan completely. Also, she does not have to buy a new car till then. The
second job will put too much pressure on her health that may affect her ability to continue her
current carrier path. Also the Vegas trip for winning money because of the high risk involved is
completely out of the question. After a few years when she gets rid of student loan, she can
easily plan for her intermediate and long term goals. After all, she is in better position than

Chemical Reaction Lab Report
Introduction
A chemical reaction is when substances (reactants) change into other substances (products). The five
general types of chemical reactions are synthesis (also known as direct combination), decomposition,
single replacement (also known as single displacement), double replacement (also known as double
displacement), and combustion. In this lab, the five general types of chemical reactions were
conducted and observations were taken before, during, and after the reaction. Then the reactants and
observations were used to determine the products to form a balanced chemical equation. The purpose
of this lab was to learn and answer the question: How can observations be used to determine the
identity of substances produced in a chemical reaction?

Woman’S Strive Towards Self Dignity And It Can Be Done
woman s strive towards self dignity and it can be done by only a superwoman in dalit scenario.
Pachayamma curses her until she gets satisfied for the insult and physical torture she had. Infuriated
Pachayamma spreads gossips about Gangamma with her friends as a reaction to her tyrannical nature.
Here the ground level defensive strategies of the victims against the perpetrators are presented with a
pinch of humour. By giving the nickname molagappodi for Gangamma, Pachayamma gets a
psychological satisfaction of resistance. Gangamma takes revenge on Pachayamma by trapping her
with a group of companions while plucking cotton pods from her farm. Even though Gangamma

On the way back, the dalit women themselves identify the power of their unity in destroying the
hierarchical power. The attainment and maintenance of personal autonomy and challenging the
systems show the superwoman in Pachayamma.
Women have already started to show their courage indistinctively against all the opposing factors such
as upper caste monopoly, political interferences moreover the government itself. The emancipation
starts from the low level in their own community and Bama is a vibrant recorder of such superwomen
and their activities to give maximum encouragement to the dalit women community as well as to show
the world how versatile and capable the indignified dalit woman is.
Ponnuthayi , a short story by Bama, explores the dark side of internal patriarchy and a determined
woman s reaction. Bama dismantles the deep rooted notions of the concept woman through the title
character Ponnuthayi. Her ability to reverse the dynamics that entrench gender inequality results in
attaining the superwoman self. Here Ponnuthayi s life becomes eventful when she becomes the wife of
an alchaholic and abusive man Mookandi. She is not ready to be the silent victim of her husband s
atrocious nature and thus decides to break the shackles of the marriage institution which confines her.

  • 2. The Use Of Electroencephalographic ( Eeg ) Signals For... Introduction This thesis is devoted to an investigation of the use of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals for biometric person recognition. The traditional ways of access control include using token based identification systems, such as a driver s license or passport, and knowledge based identification systems, such as a password or personal identification number [1]. Biometric person recognition, however, relies on human physiological and/or behavioural characteristics for establishing identity. A range of such distinctive, measurable characteristics can be used have been successfully used to recognize individuals. Biometric modalities/identifiers are considered to be unique to individuals: they may be more reliable in verifying identity than token and knowledge based methods [1]. One limitation of the specially designed database is the number of subjects included for data capture using the low cost sensor system. The self collected database contains 27 subjects with recordings from multiple sessions made on different days, which may still not be large enough to justify the statistical significance of the obtained results. Furthermore, due to the quality of the data from the low cost sensor, it can be predicted that with the number of subjects further increasing, the recognition performance of the EEG biometric system tends to reduce. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a recording of the electrical activities of the brain along the scalp, which is generally considered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Relationship Between Science And Science Policymakers use science daily to inform decisions that affect our health and safety. Scientists are confronted with greater demands for productivity and effectiveness from industrialists, social actors, and policymakers, who are expecting answers to diverse issues afflicting present day lives: from human diseases to environmental perils, technological needs, or public controversies. At the same time, there are growing fears from the public vis à vis the side effects of modern scientific and technological innovations. These concerns are not incompatible but provide the basis for recognizing the role of science in democratic societies (Pereira, 2004). The relationship between science and democracy is an age old conundrum with continuing public controversy and a fruitful but difficult co existence (MacLeod, 1997). As Fischer explains, democracy and science are both characteristics of the Western society and the tension between them is a long standing critical theme in contemporary politics (Fischer, 2003). While democracy represents open discussion on the part of all citizens, science has always represented the sphere of the knowledge society. While democracy strives to promote a broad array of viewpoints and perspectives, science for its part, attempts to restrict the number of participants seeking the right answer or assessment (ibid, 2003). As more countries attempt to run their governments on democratic principles with their performance failing to meet the growing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The And Doing Well By Doing Good Virtuousness and Doing well by doing good. Many of the individuals we presented to operated under the widely held assumption that organizations which act virtuously and do the right thing are at a competitive disadvantage to those that do not. We delivered the good news that this is largely incorrect. For instance, organizations with higher perceived levels of virtuousness have much higher profitability (Cameron, Bright, Caza, 2004), and CEOs who rated high on four moral principles integrity, responsibility, forgiveness, and compassion had an average return on assets of 9.35 versus 1.93 for those with low ratings (Leadership: Measuring the return on character, 2015). Perceived virtuousness also has a strong positive correlation with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why? Research on social networks demonstrates that the people you spend time with shape your emotional state, your values, and your actions (Christakis Fowler, 2009). Furthermore, research has identified a cluster of organizational values that promote virtuousness and are closely related to the four moral principles held by CEOs in high performing organizations: contribution, trust, compassion, integrity, and forgiveness (Cameron, Bright, Caza, 2004; Keane). We reinforced this message by emphasizing that individuals and organizations are providing themselves with a rare source of sustainable competitive advantage when acting virtuously and enabling virtuousness within the organization. Indeed, you can do well by doing good. Approach versus Avoidance Goals and Organizational Policy. We summarized the research findings on goal orientation to introduce the basic idea that focusing on what you do not want (not breaking the law and going to prison, in this context) is an ineffective way to get what you do want (flourishing in life, for example). To demonstrate that this is more than semantics, we often ask the participants to take a few moments and visualize a life of not going to prison. The responses were always revealing: participants consistently reported not seeing much of anything when attempting to visualize this obvious don t want, illustrating the brain s inability to mentally represent avoidance goals. In this way, audiences are made aware that if it weren t for Cathy losing the scarf, they would have never embarked on their journey together. Williams also states that victim heroes are the focus of melodramas through recognition of the character s virtue, where the victim s point of view is the main concentration of melodrama. The protagonist s moral virtue ultimately causes immense suffering, thus causing audiences to empathise with them (Williams 1998). In Far From Heaven, it is Cathy who is the virtuous individual who silently suffers to maintain equilibrium within her family and society at large. This is conveyed throughout the film as each event leads us to Cathy s (the victim) recognition as virtuous through her suffering (Skvirsky 2008). In the first half of the film, Cathy decides she will do well by her husband Frank by bringing his dinner to the office as he is working late. Just as she arrives at his office late at night, Cathy discovers her husband, to her surprise romantically involved with another man. In the latter part of the film, Frank confronts Cathy. Primo Levi was born in 1919 in Turin. He was an Italian, an atheist, and a Jew. He went to the University of Turin and graduated with chemistry Ph.D. Levi wasn t fond of the Italian literature program (Paris Review). He says in an interview that he always loved chemistry. The original purpose was to get close up views on Jupiter and Saturn, Saturn s rings and the bigger of 2 moons. The spacecrafts were built to last 5 years, but as this mission went on they sent back data of objects in space and have reached our outermost planets of the solar system. The mission was on to a whole different level. For this all to happen in the first place there had to be extreme calculations of when the planets orbited and met each other so the voyager would see it. This asstonishing occurrence happens about 1 out of 175 years. History of the Mission Voyager 2 was launched a few months before Voyager 1 in 1977. Voyager 1 was launched faster than 2 so it over took Voyager 2. • 12. Disadvantages Of Eutrophication 1. Introduction: In the following research paper, the parameters of how eutrophication develops will be discussed to acquire an understanding of this phenomenon. In addition, preventative and control methods will be looked at in order to devise a plan of action against eutrophication. In an aquatic ecosystem most of the nutrients are well balanced with the biodiversity of organisms. [FIND DISCOURSE MARKER TO ADD TWO SENTENCES] These aquatic ecosystems become disrupted when eutrophication (the presence of excessive and unwanted nutrients), occurs. Nutrients from agricultural, industrial and urban areas enter a drainage basin (streams, rivers, lakes, dams and ultimately, the ocean) by means of run off and groundwater. Certain organisms; for example, phytoplankton and algae, benefit from these nutrients which causes them to reproduce faster and amalgamate, forming a dense layer on the surface of the water. • 15. Can Hybrid Cars Can Improve Fuel Efficiency And Save The... Can hybrid cars can improve fuel efficiency and save the environment? A debate has recently arisen; are hybrid automobiles that much more fuel efficient than the average car, and is the higher sticker price worth the investment? Questions have also been asked about the hope of reducing environmental pollution. Are government rebates and dealer incentives worth the additional investment of purchasing these higher priced cars? What is the adoption rate among consumers to these automobiles? Gas mileage can be defined as: how many miles a car or truck can travel on one gallon of gasoline (Marland English, 2015). As fossil fuels continue to be depleted, our civilization must look at cost efficient ways to accomplish daily tasks. Hybrid cars use a combination of the gasoline engine with electronic motors to achieve a number of objectives. This differs from the new totally electricity powered cars that run on charged batteries. According to www.fueleconomy.gov; a vehicle that gets 30 MPG will cost you $545 less to fuel each year than one that gets 20 MPG, assuming 15000 miles of driving annually and a fuel cost of $2.18 ( Save Money , 2015). Over time this can lead to huge savings in fuel costs to the average consumer. As oil prices continue to rise and fall, a more fuel efficient car could provide some comfort to the financially stressed customer. A person must take into consideration if the savings in fuel costs are worth the higher investment price of a hybrid. On average, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The presence of the three powers in the Indian Ocean is shown at Appendix Q attached. The littoral countries are going to play a major role in the ongoing power struggle because of their strategic locations. It is clearly evident that of the three most influential countries, it is China who is making forays in the domain of other countries and projecting its power in the far flung areas. • 18. Superheroes In The Watchmen Character Analysis I heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he s depressed. Life seems harsh, and cruel. Says he feels all alone in threatening world. Doctor says: Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town. Go see him. That should pick you up. Man bursts into tears. But doctor... he says I am Pagliacci. Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains (Moore. 64). The quote is a perfect representation of how complex and psychologically damaged the characters truly are, proof of their sad and lonesome lives. Almost all of the characters had some sort of dark and significant event which allowed them to become what they are known as. Thus, transforming them into characters hardly any normal person can relate with, a chain each one of the characters must bear. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (Who watches the watchmen?) Superheroes in the Watchmen are given liberties to enact certain rules, but how does the public really know if said heroes are following the same rules they abide. It is a testament to the large amount of power granted to certain authoritative figures and how that said figure is able to abuse that power. I believe that these two quotes in a way, coincide, while the Watchmen are rescuing others, who is there to rescue the Watchmen? That sad and unpleasant truth is evidence, that in the end, there is simply no one that can offer Pagliacci the treatment he desperately needs. Is this what happens to us? A life of conflict with no time for friends... so that when it s done, only our enemies leave roses (Moore. 43). Stated by Rorschach after the death of the Comedian, the quote represents the burdens of a busy life of crime fighting and its effect towards the man under the mask. The Comedian, due to his behavior and lack morals, was disliked by the heroes fought beside him, thus, often being lonely. In itself is a tragedy, that the character who is named The Comedian , was never really happy, despite always having a grin and his signature smiley face button. It was a long year in fourth grade, and my family and I were excited to start our summer vacation. As we pulled our trailer on the southbound I 5 freeway towards San Diego, I could see the temperature gauge on my father s truck slowly dropping to the mid 70 s. We were in a packed car with my father, mother, older brother, younger sister, snacks and drinks everywhere, and me, entranced by the game on my brand new iPod that I recently received on my birthday. After we had finished, my father came to inspect our work. The masterminds or initiators receive the largest percentage of the profit while others in the scheme may receive a few thousand dollars for their part in the misrepresentation. The Age Of Mccarthyism By Joseph Mccarthy The Age of McCarthyism marks a sinister period of time consisting of convoluted accusations and fabrication of a sensitive topic regarding communist infiltration within America. Joe McCarthy s unfounded allegations naming supposed communist subversives instilled fear and anxiety among Americans. This was exacerbated by the anxiety associated with the concerns of an escalating Cold War. McCarthy was motivated by his political ambition and thus used the anti communist crusade as a scapegoat, to benefit his political career. It became increasingly apparent that the accusations were made against innocent individuals. In McCarthy s famous Wheeler speech in West Virginia, he stated he had a list of 205 names that were supposedly members of the State department that were involved with the American Communist Party. He questioned numerous government departments and the paranoia and fear produced from the witch hunts and fear of subversives infiltrating America resulted in it being titled McCarthyism . McCarthy eventually began to lose his popularity and influence over America during October of 1953 due to his controversial accusations against the U.S Army. When president Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected, McCarthy s opinions became less of a focus in Media. Many news organisations painted McCarthy as a villainous character due to his attacks on innocent people (Hyper 1). Despite McCarthy leading his own anti communist crusade, without the implementation of the Smith Act as well as the support of the government and FBI communist director, J. Wiesel feels compelled to bear witness to the suffering that he experienced and observed in the concentration camps. In Night he narrates the experience of the deaths of his family members, the death of his adolescence, and the death of his naïve belief in mans innate goodness. At the beginning of the book, with nothing else to cling onto, prisoners in camps hold onto their family members. The most important thing to do is staying with your for as long as possible. Early on, Schultz addressed the lack of organization management that was crucial for Starbucks to accelerate forward. Employee Enthusiasm and Commitment Another problem that Schultz faced was the issue of building a strong core of employees throughout the company. Schultz found that as the company grew, it lacked strong dedication from its employees. Starbucks had a high turnover rate, just like many other entry level service jobs at McDonalds or retail stores. Schultz saw this as a huge problem for not only the money Starbucks lost through losing an employee and having to pay more to hire and train new ones, but also losing team members. Schultz wanted to create an environment for Starbucks employees in which they would want to stay in. Schultz had difficulties convincing Starbuck s Board of Directors to invest in constant training, higher salaries, and rewards based on merit. McGee graduated from Chicago s Dusable High School in 1938 and pursued a higher education by attending the University of Illinois in 1939. It was there that he joined ROTC. When war was declared on Pearl Harbor, McGee applied for a pilot s slot in an experimental squadron and passed the exams. According to the National Aviation Hall of Fame, on October 19, 1942, he received his orders and made his way to Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama to begin training with his fellow African Americans. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When McGee began his career in the Air Force, African American s were still seen as unequal to white Americans in every aspect. It wasn t until July 2, 1964, that President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that banned discrimination based on race. Previous to this, the Jim Crow laws were used as justification for denying African Americans soldiers the opportunity to become pilots in the military. Once this changed, a new door opened for colored pilots causing many to stay in the military long after the war ended and turn it into a career, as McGee did. Although McGee s career began due to WWII, it certainly did not end there. McGee went on to serve in Korea as well as Vietnam. By the time McGee retired from the Air Force on January 31, 1973 he had earned awards such as the Oak Leaf Cluster, and had six thousand three hundred hours of flying fighter jets. He went on to become President of the Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated for two presidencies. This is significant because McGee helped show the nation that African Americans are capable of being not only some of the best airmen out there, but also some of the best leaders. Though there were many scientists with contributions to understanding the structure of DNA one scientist stood out above all others; Rosalind Franklin. Although some people believed Watson and Crick made the most contributions to the discovery of the structure of DNA, I believe Rosalind Franklin made the most contributions. Rosalind Franklin was the scientist who took photos of DNA to figure out its form, proved phosphates are on the outside of DNA strands, and performed calculations on DNA to prove DNA s structure. First, Rosalind Franklin was able to take photos of DNA that helped in the discovery of the structure of DNA. Rosalind took photos of DNA in a dry and wet state that helped to discovered the structure of DNA. When the DNA was dry, the strands thickened to form a sharp scatter. When the DNA was wet the strands stretched to form a distinctive x. The dry DNA took the form of a helix which helped her to conclude that the DNA has phosphates. Over the course of my stay I have grown and learned how to write essays as Biology major. This class pointed out to me the things that science majors tend to neglect when they write their essays and lab reports; for example, punctuation, and citation. This is something I ve gotten better at, but still improving. Most importantly, I ve learned how to analyze a text. The scientific essays I am used to reading, rarely do I have to read between the lines. It was hard but quite interesting to go read an essay and having to break it down from the argument, to the tools used and the author s opinion even when not directly stated. Throughout the course, I ve also learned how helpful it is to share your work with classmates. I used to think only the professor had the beneficial feedback and would never bother asking people from my class. However, I ve learned that they have a fresh perspective and could help. For example, when I presented my research paper, I wasn t expecting any feedback that would be that helpful, simply because I assumed the class wasn t familiar with my topic. However, I was surprised that not only were some familiar, but they had questions about my topic, and when I responded to them I automatically realized that unintentionally, they had just given me another argument to write about, and my response was the counter argument. Nowadays organisations recognise the importance of satisfying their customers needs and meeting their expectations as the more complex the customer demand, the more there is need for service. Although services are infused in every organisation s core, service failure still appears therefore, service recovery strategies are essential in order for the organisations to overcome the situation. This research intends to study the relation between customer service and organisation. 1.1 Service Nature Service is an activity which normally takes place by interacting between the service employees and the customer although a clear definition on services has always been immense to describe. An easy way to understand services is by imagining service personnel as the actors in a play and the customers as the audients (Lovelock, Vandermerwe, Lewis, 1999). There are two ways in which services can be defined, such as service being an act of performance and as economic activities providing consumers with benefits under specific circumstances. The importance of the service sector is obvious as 67% of employees are directly employed in service jobs while more than half of those already employed in manufacturing companies perform service function jobs. (Irons, 1997) Services have four key characteristics such as intangibility, inseparability, variability/heterogeneity and perishability.
