Tattoos and Criminal Behavior Essay
Introduction
The ancient practice of tattooing, once considered a trademark of social outcasts and criminals, has
steered back into mainstream culture at an alarming rate (Irwin 2001, Swan 2006). In western
society, tattoos are often associated with antisocial behaviour. In 1895, Cesare Lombroso concluded
in his study that the art of tattooing is most commonly found on the bodies of criminals (Putnins
2002). The frequency of tattoo are predicted to be found at higher rates in criminal subcultures than
in the general public. According to the 2003 Harris poll, nearly 40 million Americans have at least
one tattoo. The practice is becoming more popular with teenagers.

Houghton et al. comprised the study of 464 high school students; equally divided by gender, from
5 separate schools in a large Australian city. All the students were given a questionnaire of 21
questions, which ranged from location, number of tattoos, also age of acquisition and awareness of
health risks.
Another study, which analyzed the relationship between increased offending risk and having
tattoos, was conducted in an Australian prison (Putnins 2002, Crofts, Thompson, Wales,
Hernberger 1996). At the time of the study 97% of adults were found to have tattoos. In addition,
73% of the tattooed group was found to have been in juvenile detention centers. The average age of
getting their first tattoo was approximately 15 years old. The study concluded that the link between
tattoos and offending was quite evident even at an early age.
Arnett (1995) suggests that body modification, which include piercings and tattoos can be best
described by ones reckless impulsivity, and adolescents can be more likely to engage in delinquent
behaviour as they do not fully comprehend their actions. Atkinson (2003) argues although some
tattoos may have meaning behind it, others get tattoos simply because it is deviant by social
standards. Further more, research on adolescent tattooing supports

Sugar And Acid Disorder Essay
Sugar and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Introduction
Sugar. What comes to mind when this word is heard? Candy? Juice? Close but not quite. Sugar is
contained in all of these but do you know what else has it? For example, starch, a carbohydrate
found primarily in plants, fruits, and vegetables, contains sugar. Starch is composed of glucose
molecules. Glucose links together using alpha glycosidic bonds to form starch. One of the main
functions of starches is to be used as an energy source. Didn t know that, huh? On another note,
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, is a mental disorder characterized by
inattentiveness, impulsive behavior, and/or hyperactivity in young children. Many cases of ADHD
are often misdiagnosed or overlooked. There are many factors that need to be considered in order
for someone to have ADHD. Sugar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carbohydrates are one of the big four macromolecules. They are organic compounds often found
in food and living tissue. All carbohydrates consist of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Simple
sugars, known as monosaccharides, are the monomers of carbohydrates. This means that they are
the building blocks for all carbohydrates. Examples of monosaccharides include glucose, fructose,
and galactose. These sugars are combined to form disaccharides, or two sugars. Disaccharides form
when two monosaccharides bind using the process of dehydration synthesis. Examples of
disaccharides are sucrose, maltose, and lactose. The monomers of sucrose are glucose and fructose.
The monomers of maltose are glucose and glucose. The monomers of lactose are galactose and
fructose. The binding of multiple monosaccharides and disaccharides form polysaccharides.
Polysaccharides are considered the polymers of carbohydrates. Examples of polysaccharides

The Controversy of Deforestation Essay
The Controversy of Deforestation
Environmental issues affect every life on this planet from the smallest parasite to the human race.
There are many resources that humans and animal needs to survive; some of the most obvious
resources come from the forests. Forests make up a large percentage of the globe. The forests have
global implications not just on life but on the quality of it. Trees improve the quality of the air that
species breath, determine rainfall and replenish the atmosphere. The wood from the forests are used
everyday form many useful resources. Moreover, thinning the forests increases the amount of
available light, nutrients and water for the remaining trees. Deforestation (forest thinning) is one of
the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin, forest based industrialization is based on forest resources that are used to stimulate
economic growth and development. One of the products that have been most important to
human economies has always been wood. Wood is durable, light weight, easily worked,
waterproof, and a good fiber source. Wood is used in almost every aspect of our lives, for
building materials, living, and just surviving. We need wood to build our homes to live in and
buildings in which we work and spend the other resource that comes from trees money . Studies
show that 70% of the products that we use a day are made of some kind of wood. If we were to
look around our homes and count all the items that are made of wood we would probably find that
60 percent are made of wood. Without wood humans and other species would never be able to
survive.
Another pro argument of deforestation is the issue of fuel wood in rural areas. The use of fuel
wood in the growing cities contrasts strictly with the more familiar patterns of rural areas. The
growth of energy used in rural household still dominates the energy budgets of many developing
countries, especially in the poorer countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Nigeria. Most
fuel wood is used in the household. The concept of an energy transition, however, is central to any
understanding energy in urban areas. As

3d Printing Has A Huge Future
3D Printing
One Emerging Technology field that is soon to change the game is 3D Printing. Though 3D
Printers have been around since the 1980 s, it hasn t been widely accessible or used until now.
This is due to the advances in technology, which allow 3D Printers to be created in a smaller form
factor and used at a much cheaper price. Throughout this paper, I will further go through more
reason why I believe 3D printing has a huge future. This paper s topics are broken up into various
paragraphs, which will discuss technology specifications, business value, examples of usage,
competitive value, and my analysis and perspective of 3D Printing technology.
Technology Specifications. As stated in the previous paragraph, the earliest known 3D Printers
have been around since the 1980 s. In 1984, advances made on the inkjet concept of printing
transmuted into printing with materials. The concept is closely related to the inkjet concept but
during the early stages of 3D printing, manufactures could not produce the necessary equipment
at a cheap enough price in order for the 3D printing phenomena to lift off. If you fast forward 20
years you will see that technology has made a huge leap. This leap allowed for the necessary
advances of the 3D Printing industry that allowed for cheaper printer production cost. The
following is a brief description of how 3D Printers work. Typical 3D Printers are composed of about
5 different parts: laser source, elevator, vat, layered part, and

Summary Of The Bitter Pill
The Bitter Pill: Why medical bills are killing us written by Steven Brill delves into the question as
to why medical bills are so high. As Brill begins his research he analyzed bills from hospitals,
doctors, and drug companies. Additionally, he interviewed doctors, Medicare and insurance
administrators, and gathered patient stories across the nation. He found that the United Statesspent
more money on healthcare than any other developed countries, he stated We may be shocked at
the $60 billion price tag for cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, [however], we spent almost that
much last week on healthcare (Brill 2013). He also noted yet in every measurable way, the
results our healthcare system produces are no better and often worse than the outcomes in those
countries (Brill 2013). From the charts and graphs that Brill provided shows that the sixty
percent of personal bankruptcy filings per year are related to medical bills. Life expectancy in
the United States is the lowest amongst the countries that spend most on healthcare, our infant
mortality rank is fiftieth in the world, and that one pill cost as much as seven pills in other
developed countries such as France. Brill found that in many similar cases, like that ones he
presented in the article, Medicare would have at least paid for a small portion of the bill. However,
those who don t qualify for Medicaid and don t have insurance are often asked to pay excessive
prices.
Strengths
Although the United States is said to offer poor health services among other developed countries, it
still has some internal features that makes the system thrive over most healthcare system. One of
the major strength in the healthcare system is the breakthrough of technology advances. Some
technologies may improve the efficiency of care delivery by reducing procedure time, length of
stay, or number of hospitalizations, thereby increasing the capacity of the hospital to treat
additional patients (Sorenson et al 2013). In which, also favors many patients whom wished to
receive their test results sooner or on the estimated arrival date.
Another strength is that the medical research systems are some of the best in the world. Institutions

Spotless Mind
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Essay If you could erase any memories you wanted,
would you? The connection between our memories and our ability to feel joy is very closely
related. Recalling memories are something we do multiple times every day. Memories are a
place where emotions, feelings, experiences, and who we are as a person reside. Without our
memories, we would be very different than how we are right now. Many times we find ourselves
wishing we could forget certain things, but we do not realize that if we wouldn t have the
knowledge and the growth we gained from it happening in the first place. In the movie Eternal

There is not one memory that anyone can recall that they won t feel any sort of emotion for
rather good or bad. Joy and sadness are the two main emotions we feel when we recall memories.
We can t have one without the other. When we remember things they are broken up into good
and bad memories. For example, when something horrible happens to us like a break up mostly
all the memories which were once joyful will then become sad. Those now sad memories have
the ability to affect the way you feel in everyday life. This is where memories can be a bad
thing, say in a year I meet someone new I could easily run away and hide because I fear what
happened to me before might happen again because I remember the pain I felt. On the other
hand, how can I experience joy if I don t remember what pain feels like. This might seem like a
funny concept, but if we lived in a world where we could forget all the bad things that have
happened and some of the good things we would not know what real joy feels like cause we
would always just be stuck in the same

People Should Follow the Code of the West, Talk Less; Say...
The code of the west is things to live by, they were never actually written down, but they were
something that everyone in the west seemed to live by. It was a different time that these people
lived in and a lot of the laws that they lived by are not even considered in today s society. One of
the laws that I believe should people should always follow is talk less, say more. This is
something that means a lot to me and the world that I live, and grew up in. This is a code that
does affect you throughout your whole life and never loses meaning, no matter how young or old
you are. Talk less; say more is the most important and the most meaningful rule in the codes of the

In the game of basketball this is a big one. When someone falls and you help them up it says a lot
about who you are as a person, yet if they fall and you say something to them that could be very
rude, you are degrading yourself with the words that you have said. Players like this are known
and people know them as the players that are very unrespectable and rude. The more they say
the more they are hated and the less that people say the more they mean. Respect is something
that is earned and it is not earned through the things that you say, but the things that you do. If
you are trying to earn someone s respect I guarantee you that if you just talked to them all of the
time they would not like for that. You have to prove it through the things that you do and the
ways that you act. This was a big thing back in the west. If a new guy came to town he did not
earn respect through all of the people he talked to and the stories that he told, because those were
just stories. He had to earn it by what he did. This is where actions really speak louder than
words. Respect is also something that everyone in life is looking for, whether they know it or not
and sometimes they think they have done everything to deserve it, when really they have not done
the most important thing; prove they can follow up and what they say. You have to be able to back
up all of the words that come out of your mouth with actions because there is just talking about
doing something and then there is

The Outsider In Othello
Due to Othello s heroic qualities and military proficiency, he was partially accepted into the

earned the title as the military commander of the Venetian military. Although he is accepted into the
Venetian society, his status is pretty complicated to say the lease as he is looked at as both an
insider and outsider. Othellounintentionally puts himself into a position where he was standing out
more than an outsider should, causing others to be jealous and despise him, as it lead him to his
downfall.

It is obvious to him that he is a man of color in a society that is dominated by White people who

Othello acknowledges his status as an outsider he often times struggles to come to terms with
the fact that he cannot do anything about it. One thing that Othello tries to do is ensure himself
that his own beliefs will help him overcome what the people of Venetian think of him; Not I; I

belief that the best way to help overcome discrimination is to let his actions define who he is, not
his skin color. Although he tries his best to fit in, the reality is that Othello knows that he can only
do so much because he is an outsider to the Venetian society. The fact of the matter is that he is a
colored soldier in a society defined by wealth and title, as White people dominate

The Dynamics Of The Pacific Ocean Essay
The grand expanse of the Pacific Ocean possesses a very extensive, and often debated history of
human expansion into the thousands of islands that exist within the region. There exists a range of
fields that are interested in the voyaging of what is called Remote Oceania, or the parts of the
Pacific that would require advanced navigation techniques due to the fact that the next island is
either out of sight or simply unknown. Biologists study the movement and development of the
humanrace while linguists study the development of the Austronesian language family that can be
found in this region. Archaeologists are interested in the existence of elaborate Lapita pottery and
anthropologists wish to understand the cultural traditions and dynamics of the past and current
populations of these Pacific islands. Due to the shared interest in this region from many fields, it is
important for an understanding of the movement of the populations over time throughout Remote

the region regarding ocean travel, investigate the scale of the task that these navigators were up

The Disciple Thomas
The disciple Thomas is a familiar Biblical character because of a specific incident involving his
disbelief. (John 20). Jesus had just risen from the dead and the rest of the disciples were elated
after seeing him. Thomas had not yet seen Jesus after His resurrection and he was adamant that
what his friends had witnessed couldn t be true. Nevertheless, he did have a certain curiosity and
willingly stayed with his friends in hopes of seeing what they saw. He just could not bring himself
to believe that Jesushad truly risen from the dead. He would not believe without beholding the
Christ before his own eyes and touching his wounds with his own hands. Thomas let his fear,
anxiety, and what seemed like logic take hold of him, and he had a hard time letting it all go. He
needed proof to justify what God had told him long ahead of time would happen. Thomas
learned a great lesson the day that Jesus appeared in the upper room before all of his disciples.
He was told by his Master that he would have been more blessed if he had only believed what he
could not see. As soon as Thomas felt Jesus wounds and saw him, he declared, My Lord and my
God (John 20.28). He was still greatly blessed, but not in the wonderful way that God wanted him
to be. What an important lesson for the Christian to learn;when God says something, he means it
and he doesn t intend to break his promise. Despite his doubt, Thomas was chosen by Jesus for a
reason and Jesus told him this himself in John 15.16. He

Henderson Levee Diversity
Diversity of species along an environmental gradient on the Henderson Levee
Abstract
Habitats that contain an environmental gradient, such as the Henderson Levee, attribute to a
diverse speciation of plants. There are multiple factors that determine the assortment of species
along a disturbance gradient, including competition and the availability of nutrients, water, and
light. This paper focuses on the differences in diversity and composition of species in response to an
environmental gradient. Three parallel transects were measured along the Henderson Levee and the
stems for each species of plants were counted within sampling intervals along those transects.
Statistics were used to calculate diversity and to determine how the species changed along the
gradient. The diversity of plant species was determined to be highest at the top of the levee for
transects 1 and 3 and highest at the bottom of the levee for transect 2.

For wetlands, it has been found that richness and species composition is related to flooding
frequency and seasonal water levels as opposed to the availability of nutrients (2). For floodplain
habitats, the composition of species is related to flooding and the availability of light (2). The
arrangement of plant species can be explained by the number of floods that occur as well as the
texture of the soil, with wetter soil near the canal and moist, dry soil towards the top of the levee
(6). In this type of environment, vegetation generally becomes more abundant going up an
elevational gradient from the canal to the top of the levee (1). It is hypothesized that if a floodplain
wetland habitat has an environmental and elevational gradient, then there is a difference in the
diversity of plant species and richness across that gradient, with a higher species composition and
richness at higher

These symbols also add to the major themes, which develop as the play gains momentum. In the

A New Alliance For A Future North American Union
The three relatively unpopular governments presently enthroned in Washington, Ottawa and
Mexico City, joined in very large companies, most of them American, to establish the foundation for
a future North American Union. This is a new alliance of permanent type within which the
Americans have a de facto predominant influence. It would force Canada and Mexicoto harmonize
many laws and regulations in the interests of the world of Big Business and those of US
administrations primarily concerned with their imperial ambitions and undemocratic worldwide. It
is obvious that such a continental thrust integration plan, both economically and politically, is
substantially different from the original idea of fair and free trade in goods and services, through
the abolition tariff and non tariff barriers between the countries of the hemisphere. This idea first
took shape with the free trade agreement of 1988 between Canada and the United States.
Subsequently, in 1994, Canada had to accept that Mexico is joining the North American Free Trade
Agreement, also forcing him to make substantial concessions on the application of the Investment
Canada Act, which governs foreign takeovers of Canadian companies, in addition to ensuring the
US privileged access to Canadian energy resources. All this should have been enough to open the
US market to Canadian companies. It seems, however, that this is not the case. Large corporations

Analysis of Germinal Essays
Germinal, based on the landmark novel by Emile Zola, presents a startlingly authentic and powerful
look into the tumultuous, tragedy riddled lives of 19th century French coal miners. Forced to
endure hellish conditions, risk death and dismemberment, and work from before dawn until after
dusk, these men and women had only one alternative to mining: starvation. Germinal is not a happy
story, but it is impossible not to sense the realism that pervades the project.
The film opens with the arrival of Etienne Lantier (Renaud) at the Voreux coalmine. An out of
work machinist, Etienne is willing to do almost anything to make money, including descending into
the pit and taking pick axe to coal. He is befriended by Maheu (Gerard Depardieu), ... Show more

As a strike looms, one such woman hopes that this unfortunate turn of events won t disrupt her
plans for a lunch party.
Berri s indictment of plight of the miners is at once simple and moving. While Zola s impassioned
cry for social reform is at the heart of Germinal, the interactions of the individual characters
represent the picture s soul, and lift it above other movies with similar messages.
There is the unconditional love of one man, Maheu, for his family, and the sacrifices he must
endure for them. Maheu is a hard worker, and in his heart he believes in the innate goodness of
man. He cannot accept, for example, that soldiers brought in to defend the mine would fire on their
own countrymen.
Germinal, which cost $30 million to make, is a lavish production, and it s clear that the money was
well spent. The scenes in the mine are remarkable in conveying the desperate circumstances
confronting the characters. How many members of the audience experienced an irrational desire to
wash away the accumulating coal dust from their own skin?
Aided in no small part by an exemplary cast, Claude Berri has brought to the screen a masterpiece,
interweaving personal tragedy and social upheaval against the background of a way of life that
would not yield easily to change. There is much that is right about Germinal, and very little that

Mississippi Tribe Essay
Mississippi has been known to be the home of Native Americans. It dates all the way back to the
civil war times. Many people feel that Mississippi has no type of history to this country, well it
does. Mississippi was made the 20th state in the country in 1817. Before becoming a state it was
nothing but land and hills that the three major tribes lived on.
The three major tribes in late Mississippi were the Chickasaw, Choctaw, and the Natchez tribes.
The Natchez tribe was made up of 4500 people. The mostly migrated in the southwestern part of
Mississippi. They worshiped the sun as if it was a supreme god in which they believed in life after
death. They also believed if an important member of the tribe died several people had to sacrifice

The tribe was made up of 20,000 members across the state. They had mounds located in Winston
County called Nanih Waiya. The mounds are said to be sacred and the headquarters of the tribe.
The Choctaws were a peaceful tribe they would settle issues with a game of stick ball which is an
old Native American game.
The Chickasaw tribe was made up of 15,000 people before coming in contact with the Europeans.
In the 1600 s the tribe had 5,000 before the United States government forced them to leave their
homelands. The Choctaw and the Chickasaw were said to be a part of the same tribe because of
their related language. In the early 19th century the Chickasaw tribe had trouble finding meat so
they resorted to become successful farmers. In the civil war the Chickasaw fought with the
confederacy. When the war was over settlers began coming into their land. So by the late 1970 s
the tribe was no longer an Indian society.
Other great facts about Mississippi s history include the state bird, flower, and other great

Career Map Analysis
A career map encompasses detailed information that is thoroughly examined in order to
implement a strategy to achieve goals for a successful career. The information within a career
map includes imperative skills that have or have not been acquired that are representative of a
specific career. In addition, career maps also allow you to question what you may want in terms
of a career and the general goals needed to achieve them. Career maps help to solidify or build
these questions by outlining universal and unique skills, experiences, and personal
characteristics. Career maps are in essence the entire vision to your prospective career and

Bryce Courtenay s The Power Of One
Ever wanted to see a roach busting chicken named after a granpa? If you read this book, your
dreams will come true. The Power of One, is a somewhat non fiction novel written by Bryce
Courtenay. It tells the tale of Peekay, a small South African boy who is sent to boarding school
until his mother recovers from a mental breakdown. When he returns, he meets a man on the train
called Hoppie Groenewald, who teaches him about boxing. Peekay instantly realizes that he is
meant to become a boxer. The rest of the story consists of Peekay s adventures and him trying to
become the next welterweight champion of the world. The Powerof One is filled with many
different themes that are prominent throughout the book, but the one that sticks out is Logic and
Emotion, or: You must have a nice balance of faith and logic to formulate a reliable plan.
When the book starts out, logic and emotion is introduced when Hoppie teaches Peekay about

Critical Analysis Of Wallace Stevens s The Inhabitants
The daily ritual of leaving work in the city to arrive home in the suburbs has been masterfully
depicted in the poem, The Inhabitants. By taking the New Critical analysis approach in using
scientific theory, we can unpack its meaning through a defined system self contained within the
text. In our analysis of The Inhabitants we take a structuralism approach. Structuralism as
defined by Mary Klages, in her book Literary Theory: A Guide for the Perplexed, is a way of
thinking that works to find the fundamental basis units or elements of which anything is made.
(p 31). The number 5 is a very powerful prime number. Taking a closer look at the poem, we see
the power of the 5 paradigm and how it plays a crucial role in unlocking the poem s very
meaning. Similarly, in our class exercise we utilized the work of Wallace Stevens, A Postcard
From the Volcano , and reduced the story to its bare bones. Getting to the basics of Guest s piece,
we can simply start with its structural rhythm of five stanzas. Each stanzais a self contained unit that
describes the transition from the city to the suburbs. In the first stanza the descriptive is of the
onset of departing office workers pilgrimage, Like people in an opera on the street, gracefully
orchestrate an orderly descent from their office building to the bus stop. Not the mad dash out the
door that school children make as their final school bell rings, nonetheless just as anxious. Listen to

Since we as humans are also a member of class Mammalia, we have a good deal in common

Punishment During The Elizabethan Era
The elizabethan era was a pretty tough time to be alive, and so crime was rampant in the streets.
But no amount of crime was worth the large assortment or punishments that were lined up for the
next person who dared cross the line.
Punishment during the elizabethan era was some of the most brutal I have ever seen, and
personally I think it was almost unjustly so, but people back then thought quite the opposite, In fact,
they thought it was fun to watch. These punishments include, but are not limited to; the rack, the
scavenger s daughter, the collar, the iron maiden, branding irons, the wheel, thumbscrews, the
gossip s bridle/the brank, the drunkard s cloak, ducking stools, the pillory, and the stocks, as well
as whipping, burning or branding, pressing, boiling in hot water, oil, or lead, starvation in a public
place, and finally cutting off various parts of the anatomy. I would like to elaborate on (in my
opinion) the worst and/or most brutal ones.
Let s start with the worst. The wheel. It s exactly what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Iron Maiden was a big human shaped cabinet that was lined in spikes. People would be put
into this cabinet, and and the doors would be closed, causing the victim to be impaled from
many different angles and would eventually bleed out and die. The only reason this is not on the
top of my list is because it was never proven to be actually used or even to exist. Many believe it
is actually a version of another torture device called the drunkard s cloak that was lined with
spikes, others believe that it was made up by historians who wanted publicity at a museum they
work for.
In conclusion, crime wasn t worth it. No matter how much you got out of a job or something, it
was not enough to compensate for the amount of pain you would be in if you were found out. This
also shows how hard life was back then, the sheer fact that they came up with these devices shows
how much they needed to solve the crime rate during that

The Great Debaters Analysis
The movie, The Great Debaters, takes place in the 1930s and explores the struggles of three
students from Wiley College s debate team. The first character introduced is the youngest student
from the team, 14 year old, James Farmer Jr. He is an ambitious young man who strives to live
up to his father s expectations. James struggles with fear throughout the movie. He is sheltered
and does not understand the severity of the racial conflict of the time. This trait is evident in the
film in two key scenes. The first is when his family is out for a drive and his father accidently hits
a white man s pig. James s father is very cautious during this interaction and James witnesses the
incident from the car. This interaction has a major impact on James and gives him a greater
understanding of the racial conflict. The second incident occurs when James is unsuccessful in his
first debate. When given other opportunities to debate, he questions himself and fears failure.
This fear plays a role in the debate team s future competitions. James s fear can be linked to
Bandura s observational learning theory. He observes how his father cowers down to the white
farmers and learns that he too should fear whites. Bandura s learning theory comes into play
because James is learning his behavior through observation. This fear of whites is instilled in him
and is evident through out the movie. The second link that can be made to Bandura is his theory of
self efficacy. James is not given the

How Is Adversity Shown In The Great Gatsby
Napoleon Hill once stated, Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed
of an equal or greater benefit. From George Washington to Nelson Mandela, greatness is
cultivated from adversity during turbulent times. Horace s assertion is correct in view of the fact
that adversity causes people to act, reveals vulnerabilities, and forces people to adapt. Notably,
people are disinclined to fix what is not broken, only when faced with an obstacle do they act.
For example, in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby s desire for the love of
Daisy Buchanan was the impetus for his quest to live an affluent life through any means possible.
He would not have taken advantage of his resources if not faced with the complication of how to
procure Daisy s attention. In brief, without a challenge people will be unable to find a way to

An Analysis Of Dominic Pettman s The World Of The Planet...
Having a voice, whether it s a human or an animal, have a significance behind where it comes
from, where we get it from and what message it receives to another. In this case, to have a voice

animals and humans. To have a voice in the planet we live, it involves with imitation, body

vocalization and self reflection using humans and different types of birds, explaining how

Comparing Plato s Allegory Of The Cave And The Matrix
In Plato s Allegory of the Cave and the Wachowskis The Matrix, the ideas of truth are that it can
only be defined by how far one is willing to think outside of their own reality. Both the allegory
and the film depict truth as a key of sorts for individuals to break free from their imprisonment.
This can be seen by Neo s physical escape from the pod, which he had been unknowingly trapped
in his whole life and his ascension to light after being swept down the pod s tube. The tube
which swept Neo away is alike to the freed prisoner being dragged...into the sunlight by force in
Plato s allegory; the two characters are being forced to have their senses enlightened once they
ve been freed from the chains on their bodies (but their minds still need to get adjusted to seeing

It shows how the intelligible realm of our minds/ why we must constantly reflect upon and

Melodrama Research Paper
Naturalism is defined by the Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms (1990) as a more deliberate kind
of realism in novels, stories, and plays, usually involving a view of human beings as passive
victims of natural forces and social environment (Baldick, p.221). The dictionary states that
naturalistic dramain particular usually has a broader application, denoting a very detailed illusion
of real life on the stage, especially in speech, costume, and sets (Baldick, p.221). On the other hand,
melodramais defined as a popular form of sensational drama that flourished in the 19th century
theatre [...] the modern sense of melodrama derives: an emotionally exaggerated conflict of pure
maidenhood and scheming villainy in a plot full of suspense (Baldick, p.201). Melodrama came
before naturalistic drama, in the early nineteenth century, but was taken over in popularity in the
late nineteenth/ early twentieth century by realismand naturalistic drama.
The term melodrama originated from the early nineteenth century French word mГ©lodrame,
which is derived from Greek melos, which means melody, and French drame, which means drama.
Moreover, many of the elements of melodrama are thought to have originated in the fifth century
B.C. Melodrama emerged from eighteenth century sentimental dramas in Germany and France that
involved music, and became popular between the seventeen eighties and the seventeen nineties,
with its popularity lasting until the early twentieth century. In terms of early European theatre, the
term melodrama was used to describe scenes of mime or dialogue which were accompanied by
music. However, the more modern definition in the Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms comes
from the early nineteenth century, where the melodramatic plays being performed in London were
somewhat simplified adaptations of Gothic novels. Melodrama means song drama in Greek, so
therefore the use of music is understandably a very important feature. It is used to the increase
emotions of the audience, as well as to signify different characters. Pisani says in his essay Music
for the theatre: style and function in incidental music that:

eleven. Sons of Philipp Wilhelm Grimm and Dorothea Grimm, nГ©e Zimmer had nine children
and three died in infancy. Jacob and Wilhelm were the second and the third eldest in the family.
In the early 1800 s, the boys began to study law at the University of Marburg. While there at the

Organizational Culture And Its Functions
INTRODUCTION
Organizational culture involves systems of beliefs and values that guide the behavior of individuals
within the organization and how they shape behavior (Kummerow, 2013). Organizational
structures, on the other hand, dictate the assignment, coordination and control of roles and
responsibilities to achieve organizational goals (Pathak 2011). For a company to perform
effectively it needs to grow, organizational development is one element of growth that focuses on
practice an research focused in expanding effectiveness and the knowledge of individuals. In order
to grow, a firm needs to transfer, create ad retain knowledge within its staff members and people
affiliated to it through organizational. The aim of this paper is to analyze the concepts of
organizational, culture, structure, development, and learning and evaluate how this concept relates
to Jaguar Company.
ORGANIZATIONAL CULTUREAND ITS FUNCTIONS
According to Kummerow and Kirby (2013), organizational culture is patterns of shared values,
beliefs and assumptions developed by an organization as it looks for ways to cope with issues of
internal integration and external adaptation. Consequently, it will govern how individual behave
within the organization and the culture is tough to any new member of the organization so that
they know the correct way to think, feel and perceive issues within the organization. Culture is an
important part of any company, it provides and controls the way staff members behave in

The United States And Soviet Union Essay
The 1980 s were a dynamic time in the life cycle of the Cold War. The early portion of this decade,
which saw massive shifts in the administrations of the United States and Soviet Union, maintained
an atmosphere of suspicion, wariness, and skepticism. This theme of uncertainty and caution was
the logical product of decades of both American and Soviet duplicity, confrontation, and
militarization. Yet, despite this mistrust between the polar Cold War
belligerents, and contrary to the
early rhetoric of the Reagan administration, the United States and Soviet Union modified their
perceptions of each other s intentions following 1985 s Reykjavik Summit, which, despite
producing no tangible results, established common desire for arms reduction and a conclusion of
the Cold War. This warming of relations, however, increased at a gradual rate and encountered
significant hurdles as the two nations attempted to limit the potential for thermonuclear war.
Ultimately, Ronald Reaganand Mikhail Gorbachevs dialogue of the eyes transitioned from one
administration to the next, while also weathering significant domestic pressures as the United
Soviet Socialist Republic disintegrated.
Doubt and insecurity largely characterized the Cold War in the late 1970s and early stages of the
Reagan presidency. Following the rise and fall of dГ©tente, the collapse of the Nixon
administration, and the expansion of alarmist groups such as the Committee on the Present Danger,
the Soviet Union and

To Kill A Mocking Bird From Trayvon Martin to Black Lives Matter
People have different opinions and views on subjects and we won t always agree with them or
understand why they think that way. You never really understand a person until you consider
things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it. I like that
Atticus is teaching his kids valuable lessons. We don t know what makes someone act or dress or
do the things they do, so we make assumptions and conclusions in order to understand , but the only
true way of understanding someone is through sympathy and compassion.
I value this next quote because I believe a lot of what Atticus is saying still applies today. Not just
white men cheating black men but white people in general cheat colored people everyday simply
for being white. As you grow older, you ll see white men cheat black men every day of your life,
but let me tell you something and don t you forget it whenever a white man does that to a black
man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, he is trash. For
example in today s society we have wage gaps, people get paid based on what their race is even if
they share the same job and do the same work. Even though today we like to deny racism exists, it
does we just chose to ignore it.
Again in the book we see Atticus teaching his children that making assumptions and

The Designed User Workflow For The Application
Figure 3: The designed user workflow for the application. When the signal is submitted by the user,
AgileFD is run twice, once with just the most recently submitted signal(s) in order to determine
what data points to constrain the submitted signal(s) to, and then a second time with all submitted
signals and past constraints to show what areas are being reconstructed well/poorly (green/red).
Note: Selected points are indicated by turning to black.
Results and Discussion
This application was tested on a singular system, of Tantalum, Rhodium and Palladium (Ta Rh Pd).
The metrics that will be analyzed is how well the Phase Mapper Game s solution compared to
AgileFD alone in terms of speed, satisfying constraints, and having a physically meaningful
solution. It should be noted that the user for Phase Mapper Game has much experience working
with the system so the time does not reflect what would be the average for a lay person. The
system was not tested on a lay person however because it has not been developed far enough to be
that accessible. For this test of the application the solutions were compared for when only three
solution patterns were found. Time As seen in Figure 4, the solution patterns found for the Phase
Mapper Game and AgileFD alone seem to be located in the same regions. With Phase 1 and 2 for
both following the connectivity constraint, whereas Phase 3 seems to violate it, and more so in the
Phase Mapper Gamer solution. It is expected that both solutions would

Janssen s Model Of Change Essay
For me in module 5, the part I found most valuable was Janssen s Model of Change. I enjoyed
learning about the four different states. Comfort (Stage 1), Denial (Stage 2), Confusion (Stage 3),
and Renewal (Stage 4). The stages state different feelings a person will feel during the change
process. During the Comfort stage, the person is in their normal routine. They feel comfortable
because it is what they are used to. Denial takes place when situations force a change on the
individual. Often they may feel overwhelm, not wanting to confront the issue, or wishing to stay in
their comfort stage. An important note regarding the denial stage is that contrary to what people
think, that resisting change brings less stress, the opposite is true. Denying change causes the
person more stress, and it is at this stage they spend more energy. Confusion sets in once the person
has accepted to change, and is about to begin the journey from the known comfort to the unknown.
Renewal, the last stage of change, is where you have accepted the change. The change may not
necessarily be something you like, but you have accepted it. With time you will return to the first...

With sufficient knowledge of this model of change, I will be able to handle the change much
better. I will be able to get over the denial stage faster and into the confusion stage to get the
knowledge I need for my change. This way of dealing with change will allow me to hit the
renewal stage and enter back into my comfort stages, with a lot less stress. I also will be able to
teach my Airman on the Janssen s Model of Change. I believe that sharing the knowledge with
them will help them process change better as well. In the Air Force, change is always going to
happen, and I trust that being better ready to handle the change is vital for personal and unit

Shot by Shot Assignment
Ben enters his room and is at ease finally. The music stops and the focus is on him. The room is
well lit and his head is leaned against the white door, which gives the audience a sense of escape.
As he makes his way toward the window, we see a dartboard next to his bedroom door that has
not one of the darts on the correct target. One has even found itself on the wall. Over his bed we
see pictures of planes and toy planes pointed in every direction as maybe parallel to his life. The
camera holds a medium close up as Ben looks down through his window after he takes a hesitant
walk over to that position.
Interpretation:
He feels that himself in his room with nobody else around ensures him isolation that he ... Show

As he looks into the fish tank we see multi colored fishes, corals and other decorations that occupy
the water. At he end of the shot Ben s door is opened and we see Mrs. Robinsonin the doorway.
Interpretation:
The fishes in the fish tank display color, movement and ultimately freedom. Ben looks on as if he
is craves to have this too in his own life. The lighting becomes immense and he is therefore hopeful.
Overall Meaning:
Ben escapes the swarm of family and friends. He feels very overwhelmed and confined
downstairs. His bedroom serves as his time and place for isolation. This shows that the parents are
not really concerned about his feelings or opinions. Ben does not share the same opinions about
his future as his parents have in mind. He is basically showcased as a scholar than a regular human
being with a desire for acceptance.
Opening Shots: The Graduate
After Title Sequence
Shot 1 Interpretation
As Ben sits in front of the fish tank he seems to be thinking very deeply. The tank represents a sort
of tranquility and peacefulness for Ben. The father s voice is more dominating than Ben s silent cry.
Hey, what s the matter? was the first line in the film
This dialogue represents the father and mother asking questions as a form of human behavior but
not really as a sign of individual concern. They

To let the liver function properly it is important to detect cirrhosis in early stage. Now a days
several noninvasive imaging techniques have been developed recently for detection of liver
cirrhosis such as CT, USG, MRI. In this paper we have used CT scan images of liver cirrhosis and
applied some statistical operations on those CT images such as mean, median, standard deviation
and mode.
II. Methodology:CT scans are challenging because of the different image characteristics that must
be considered. Here we will be considering the statistical features of a CT scan of liver which is
having liver cirrhosis as a disease. The methodology followed is given below:
Fig.1 Flow Chart of Methodology Used
(1).Image Acquisition : To get an image of which you want to extract some features.
(2).Image Preprocessing : It is common practice to perform preprocessing on acquired CT scan
images before extracting the features of images. Here we have applied the statistical operation on
the preprocessed images After acquiring the image various preprocessing methods can be apply.
The aim of this step is to improve the quality of the image that suppress unwanted distortion and
enhance the image features which is important for further processing. Such as increase or decrease
brightness, shape, contrast, remove the noise from the image.

American Women During The Civil War
After the Civil War, the Republicans had views that the defeat of the rebels and destruction of
slavery were sufficient to guarantee prosperity for everyone. The traumatic events throughout the
Civil War only intensified the desire among a growing group of American women to participate
fully in the nation s political life. They were striving for a sense of agency in the United States
not only as a collective whole, but also as individuals. Agency refers to the idea that each
individual in a culture is free to determine his or her own actions and beliefs. For American women,
this means to have the power to control their own life. Immediately after the Civil War, American
women took matters into their own hands by aiming to extend their moral influences outside the
narrow and exclusive sphere of the home. In 1886, the Equal Rights Association was founded by
veteran reformers Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Lucy Stone(Jones, 387). The
Equal Rights Association was created to link the rights of white women and African Americans.
However, due to Kansas voters who defeated a referendum proposing suffrage for both African
Americans and white women in 1867, the two causes decided to separate. In 1869, Elizabeth Cady
Stanton and Susan B. Anthony found the National Women Suffrage Association (NWSA) while
Lucy Stone and her husband, Henry Blackwell, found the rival American Woman Suffrage
Association (AWSA). Anthony and Stone were divided by temperament and

  • 2. Tattoos and Criminal Behavior Essay Introduction The ancient practice of tattooing, once considered a trademark of social outcasts and criminals, has steered back into mainstream culture at an alarming rate (Irwin 2001, Swan 2006). In western society, tattoos are often associated with antisocial behaviour. In 1895, Cesare Lombroso concluded in his study that the art of tattooing is most commonly found on the bodies of criminals (Putnins 2002). The frequency of tattoo are predicted to be found at higher rates in criminal subcultures than in the general public. According to the 2003 Harris poll, nearly 40 million Americans have at least one tattoo. The practice is becoming more popular with teenagers. With thousands of people getting inked everyday around the world, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Houghton et al. comprised the study of 464 high school students; equally divided by gender, from 5 separate schools in a large Australian city. All the students were given a questionnaire of 21 questions, which ranged from location, number of tattoos, also age of acquisition and awareness of health risks. Another study, which analyzed the relationship between increased offending risk and having tattoos, was conducted in an Australian prison (Putnins 2002, Crofts, Thompson, Wales, Hernberger 1996). At the time of the study 97% of adults were found to have tattoos. In addition, 73% of the tattooed group was found to have been in juvenile detention centers. The average age of getting their first tattoo was approximately 15 years old. The study concluded that the link between tattoos and offending was quite evident even at an early age. Arnett (1995) suggests that body modification, which include piercings and tattoos can be best described by ones reckless impulsivity, and adolescents can be more likely to engage in delinquent behaviour as they do not fully comprehend their actions. Atkinson (2003) argues although some tattoos may have meaning behind it, others get tattoos simply because it is deviant by social standards. Further more, research on adolescent tattooing supports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sugar And Acid Disorder Essay Sugar and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Introduction Sugar. What comes to mind when this word is heard? Candy? Juice? Close but not quite. Sugar is contained in all of these but do you know what else has it? For example, starch, a carbohydrate found primarily in plants, fruits, and vegetables, contains sugar. Starch is composed of glucose molecules. Glucose links together using alpha glycosidic bonds to form starch. One of the main functions of starches is to be used as an energy source. Didn t know that, huh? On another note, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, is a mental disorder characterized by inattentiveness, impulsive behavior, and/or hyperactivity in young children. Examples of monosaccharides include glucose, fructose, and galactose. These sugars are combined to form disaccharides, or two sugars. Disaccharides form when two monosaccharides bind using the process of dehydration synthesis. Examples of disaccharides are sucrose, maltose, and lactose. The monomers of sucrose are glucose and fructose. The monomers of maltose are glucose and glucose. The monomers of lactose are galactose and fructose. There are many resources that humans and animal needs to survive; some of the most obvious resources come from the forests. Forests make up a large percentage of the globe. The forests have global implications not just on life but on the quality of it. Trees improve the quality of the air that species breath, determine rainfall and replenish the atmosphere. To begin, forest based industrialization is based on forest resources that are used to stimulate economic growth and development. One of the products that have been most important to human economies has always been wood. Wood is durable, light weight, easily worked, waterproof, and a good fiber source. Wood is used in almost every aspect of our lives, for building materials, living, and just surviving. We need wood to build our homes to live in and buildings in which we work and spend the other resource that comes from trees money . Studies show that 70% of the products that we use a day are made of some kind of wood. If we were to look around our homes and count all the items that are made of wood we would probably find that 60 percent are made of wood. Without wood humans and other species would never be able to survive. Another pro argument of deforestation is the issue of fuel wood in rural areas. The use of fuel wood in the growing cities contrasts strictly with the more familiar patterns of rural areas. The growth of energy used in rural household still dominates the energy budgets of many developing countries, especially in the poorer countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Nigeria. Most fuel wood is used in the household. The concept of an energy transition, however, is central to any understanding energy in urban areas. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though 3D Printers have been around since the 1980 s, it hasn t been widely accessible or used until now. This is due to the advances in technology, which allow 3D Printers to be created in a smaller form factor and used at a much cheaper price. Throughout this paper, I will further go through more reason why I believe 3D printing has a huge future. This paper s topics are broken up into various paragraphs, which will discuss technology specifications, business value, examples of usage, competitive value, and my analysis and perspective of 3D Printing technology. Technology Specifications. As stated in the previous paragraph, the earliest known 3D Printers have been around since the 1980 s. In 1984, advances made on the inkjet concept of printing transmuted into printing with materials. The concept is closely related to the inkjet concept but during the early stages of 3D printing, manufactures could not produce the necessary equipment at a cheap enough price in order for the 3D printing phenomena to lift off. If you fast forward 20 years you will see that technology has made a huge leap. This leap allowed for the necessary advances of the 3D Printing industry that allowed for cheaper printer production cost. The following is a brief description of how 3D Printers work. Typical 3D Printers are composed of about 5 different parts: laser source, elevator, vat, layered part, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Summary Of The Bitter Pill The Bitter Pill: Why medical bills are killing us written by Steven Brill delves into the question as to why medical bills are so high. As Brill begins his research he analyzed bills from hospitals, doctors, and drug companies. Additionally, he interviewed doctors, Medicare and insurance administrators, and gathered patient stories across the nation. He found that the United Statesspent more money on healthcare than any other developed countries, he stated We may be shocked at the $60 billion price tag for cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, [however], we spent almost that much last week on healthcare (Brill 2013). He also noted yet in every measurable way, the results our healthcare system produces are no better and often worse than the outcomes in those countries (Brill 2013). From the charts and graphs that Brill provided shows that the sixty percent of personal bankruptcy filings per year are related to medical bills. Life expectancy in the United States is the lowest amongst the countries that spend most on healthcare, our infant mortality rank is fiftieth in the world, and that one pill cost as much as seven pills in other developed countries such as France. Brill found that in many similar cases, like that ones he presented in the article, Medicare would have at least paid for a small portion of the bill. However, those who don t qualify for Medicaid and don t have insurance are often asked to pay excessive prices. Strengths Although the United States is said to offer poor health services among other developed countries, it still has some internal features that makes the system thrive over most healthcare system. One of the major strength in the healthcare system is the breakthrough of technology advances. Some technologies may improve the efficiency of care delivery by reducing procedure time, length of stay, or number of hospitalizations, thereby increasing the capacity of the hospital to treat additional patients (Sorenson et al 2013). In which, also favors many patients whom wished to receive their test results sooner or on the estimated arrival date. For example, when something horrible happens to us like a break up mostly all the memories which were once joyful will then become sad. Players like this are known and people know them as the players that are very unrespectable and rude. The more they say the more they are hated and the less that people say the more they mean. Respect is something that is earned and it is not earned through the things that you say, but the things that you do. If you are trying to earn someone s respect I guarantee you that if you just talked to them all of the time they would not like for that. You have to prove it through the things that you do and the ways that you act. This was a big thing back in the west. Jesus had just risen from the dead and the rest of the disciples were elated after seeing him. Thomas had not yet seen Jesus after His resurrection and he was adamant that what his friends had witnessed couldn t be true. Nevertheless, he did have a certain curiosity and willingly stayed with his friends in hopes of seeing what they saw. He just could not bring himself to believe that Jesushad truly risen from the dead. He would not believe without beholding the Christ before his own eyes and touching his wounds with his own hands. Thomas let his fear, anxiety, and what seemed like logic take hold of him, and he had a hard time letting it all go. He needed proof to justify what God had told him long ahead of time would happen. Thomas learned a great lesson the day that Jesus appeared in the upper room before all of his disciples. He was told by his Master that he would have been more blessed if he had only believed what he could not see. As soon as Thomas felt Jesus wounds and saw him, he declared, My Lord and my God (John 20.28). He was still greatly blessed, but not in the wonderful way that God wanted him to be. What an important lesson for the Christian to learn;when God says something, he means it and he doesn t intend to break his promise. There are multiple factors that determine the assortment of species along a disturbance gradient, including competition and the availability of nutrients, water, and light. This paper focuses on the differences in diversity and composition of species in response to an environmental gradient. Three parallel transects were measured along the Henderson Levee and the stems for each species of plants were counted within sampling intervals along those transects. Statistics were used to calculate diversity and to determine how the species changed along the gradient. The diversity of plant species was determined to be highest at the top of the levee for transects 1 and 3 and highest at the bottom of the levee for transect 2. Introduction The ... In this type of environment, vegetation generally becomes more abundant going up an elevational gradient from the canal to the top of the levee (1). A New Alliance For A Future North American Union The three relatively unpopular governments presently enthroned in Washington, Ottawa and Mexico City, joined in very large companies, most of them American, to establish the foundation for a future North American Union. This is a new alliance of permanent type within which the Americans have a de facto predominant influence. It would force Canada and Mexicoto harmonize many laws and regulations in the interests of the world of Big Business and those of US administrations primarily concerned with their imperial ambitions and undemocratic worldwide. It is obvious that such a continental thrust integration plan, both economically and politically, is substantially different from the original idea of fair and free trade in goods and services, through the abolition tariff and non tariff barriers between the countries of the hemisphere. This idea first took shape with the free trade agreement of 1988 between Canada and the United States. Subsequently, in 1994, Canada had to accept that Mexico is joining the North American Free Trade Agreement, also forcing him to make substantial concessions on the application of the Investment Canada Act, which governs foreign takeovers of Canadian companies, in addition to ensuring the US privileged access to Canadian energy resources. All this should have been enough to open the US market to Canadian companies. It seems, however, that this is not the case. • 23. Analysis of Germinal Essays Germinal, based on the landmark novel by Emile Zola, presents a startlingly authentic and powerful look into the tumultuous, tragedy riddled lives of 19th century French coal miners. Forced to endure hellish conditions, risk death and dismemberment, and work from before dawn until after dusk, these men and women had only one alternative to mining: starvation. Germinal is not a happy story, but it is impossible not to sense the realism that pervades the project. The film opens with the arrival of Etienne Lantier (Renaud) at the Voreux coalmine. An out of work machinist, Etienne is willing to do almost anything to make money, including descending into the pit and taking pick axe to coal. He is befriended by Maheu (Gerard Depardieu), ... Berri s indictment of plight of the miners is at once simple and moving. While Zola s impassioned cry for social reform is at the heart of Germinal, the interactions of the individual characters represent the picture s soul, and lift it above other movies with similar messages. There is the unconditional love of one man, Maheu, for his family, and the sacrifices he must endure for them. Maheu is a hard worker, and in his heart he believes in the innate goodness of man. He cannot accept, for example, that soldiers brought in to defend the mine would fire on their own countrymen. Germinal, which cost $30 million to make, is a lavish production, and it s clear that the money was well spent. The scenes in the mine are remarkable in conveying the desperate circumstances confronting the characters. How many members of the audience experienced an irrational desire to wash away the accumulating coal dust from their own skin? Aided in no small part by an exemplary cast, Claude Berri has brought to the screen a masterpiece, interweaving personal tragedy and social upheaval against the background of a way of life that would not yield easily to change. In our analysis of The Inhabitants we take a structuralism approach. Structuralism as defined by Mary Klages, in her book Literary Theory: A Guide for the Perplexed, is a way of thinking that works to find the fundamental basis units or elements of which anything is made. The first character introduced is the youngest student from the team, 14 year old, James Farmer Jr. He is an ambitious young man who strives to live up to his father s expectations. James struggles with fear throughout the movie. He is sheltered and does not understand the severity of the racial conflict of the time. This trait is evident in the film in two key scenes. The first is when his family is out for a drive and his father accidently hits a white man s pig. James s father is very cautious during this interaction and James witnesses the incident from the car. This interaction has a major impact on James and gives him a greater understanding of the racial conflict. The second incident occurs when James is unsuccessful in his first debate. When given other opportunities to debate, he questions himself and fears failure. This fear plays a role in the debate team s future competitions. James s fear can be linked to Bandura s observational learning theory. He observes how his father cowers down to the white farmers and learns that he too should fear whites. • 41. Melodrama Research Paper Naturalism is defined by the Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms (1990) as a more deliberate kind of realism in novels, stories, and plays, usually involving a view of human beings as passive victims of natural forces and social environment (Baldick, p.221). The dictionary states that naturalistic dramain particular usually has a broader application, denoting a very detailed illusion of real life on the stage, especially in speech, costume, and sets (Baldick, p.221). On the other hand, melodramais defined as a popular form of sensational drama that flourished in the 19th century theatre [...] the modern sense of melodrama derives: an emotionally exaggerated conflict of pure maidenhood and scheming villainy in a plot full of suspense (Baldick, p.201). Melodrama came before naturalistic drama, in the early nineteenth century, but was taken over in popularity in the late nineteenth/ early twentieth century by realismand naturalistic drama. The term melodrama originated from the early nineteenth century French word mГ©lodrame, which is derived from Greek melos, which means melody, and French drame, which means drama. Moreover, many of the elements of melodrama are thought to have originated in the fifth century B.C. Melodrama emerged from eighteenth century sentimental dramas in Germany and France that involved music, and became popular between the seventeen eighties and the seventeen nineties, with its popularity lasting until the early twentieth century. In terms of early European theatre, the term melodrama was used to describe scenes of mime or dialogue which were accompanied by music. However, the more modern definition in the Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms comes from the early nineteenth century, where the melodramatic plays being performed in London were somewhat simplified adaptations of Gothic novels. Melodrama means song drama in Greek, so therefore the use of music is understandably a very important feature. It is used to the increase emotions of the audience, as well as to signify different characters. Pisani says in his essay Music for the theatre: style and function in incidental music that: Music [was] used to assist the actors in establishing and sustaining the emotional pitch ... • 44. The United States And Soviet Union Essay The 1980 s were a dynamic time in the life cycle of the Cold War. The early portion of this decade, which saw massive shifts in the administrations of the United States and Soviet Union, maintained an atmosphere of suspicion, wariness, and skepticism. This theme of uncertainty and caution was the logical product of decades of both American and Soviet duplicity, confrontation, and militarization. Yet, despite this mistrust between the polar Cold War belligerents, and contrary to the early rhetoric of the Reagan administration, the United States and Soviet Union modified their perceptions of each other s intentions following 1985 s Reykjavik Summit, which, despite producing no tangible results, established common desire for arms reduction and a conclusion of the Cold War. This warming of relations, however, increased at a gradual rate and encountered significant hurdles as the two nations attempted to limit the potential for thermonuclear war. Ultimately, Ronald Reaganand Mikhail Gorbachevs dialogue of the eyes transitioned from one administration to the next, while also weathering significant domestic pressures as the United Soviet Socialist Republic disintegrated. Doubt and insecurity largely characterized the Cold War in the late 1970s and early stages of the Reagan presidency. Following the rise and fall of dГ©tente, the collapse of the Nixon administration, and the expansion of alarmist groups such as the Committee on the Present Danger, the Soviet Union and ... • 45. Kill A Mocking Bird And Trayvon Martin s Black Lives... Samantha Ekanem Mrs. Nelson PreВAP English 2 24 August 2015 To Kill A Mocking Bird From Trayvon Martin to Black Lives Matter People have different opinions and views on subjects and we won t always agree with them or understand why they think that way. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it. I like that Atticus is teaching his kids valuable lessons. We don t know what makes someone act or dress or do the things they do, so we make assumptions and conclusions in order to understand , but the only true way of understanding someone is through sympathy and compassion. I value this next quote because I believe a lot of what Atticus is saying still applies today. Not just white men cheating black men but white people in general cheat colored people everyday simply for being white. As you grow older, you ll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don t you forget it whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, he is trash. For example in today s society we have wage gaps, people get paid based on what their race is even if they share the same job and do the same work. Even though today we like to deny racism exists, it does we just chose to ignore it. Again in the book we see Atticus teaching his children that making assumptions and ... • 46. The Designed User Workflow For The Application Figure 3: The designed user workflow for the application. When the signal is submitted by the user, AgileFD is run twice, once with just the most recently submitted signal(s) in order to determine what data points to constrain the submitted signal(s) to, and then a second time with all submitted signals and past constraints to show what areas are being reconstructed well/poorly (green/red). Note: Selected points are indicated by turning to black. Results and Discussion This application was tested on a singular system, of Tantalum, Rhodium and Palladium (Ta Rh Pd). The metrics that will be analyzed is how well the Phase Mapper Game s solution compared to AgileFD alone in terms of speed, satisfying constraints, and having a physically meaningful solution. It should be noted that the user for Phase Mapper Game has much experience working with the system so the time does not reflect what would be the average for a lay person. The system was not tested on a lay person however because it has not been developed far enough to be that accessible. For this test of the application the solutions were compared for when only three solution patterns were found. Time As seen in Figure 4, the solution patterns found for the Phase Mapper Game and AgileFD alone seem to be located in the same regions. With Phase 1 and 2 for both following the connectivity constraint, whereas Phase 3 seems to violate it, and more so in the Phase Mapper Gamer solution. It is expected that both solutions would ... • 47. Janssen s Model Of Change Essay For me in module 5, the part I found most valuable was Janssen s Model of Change. I enjoyed learning about the four different states. Comfort (Stage 1), Denial (Stage 2), Confusion (Stage 3), and Renewal (Stage 4). The stages state different feelings a person will feel during the change process. During the Comfort stage, the person is in their normal routine. They feel comfortable because it is what they are used to. Denial takes place when situations force a change on the individual. Often they may feel overwhelm, not wanting to confront the issue, or wishing to stay in their comfort stage. An important note regarding the denial stage is that contrary to what people think, that resisting change brings less stress, the opposite is true. Denying change causes the person more stress, and it is at this stage they spend more energy. Confusion sets in once the person has accepted to change, and is about to begin the journey from the known comfort to the unknown. Renewal, the last stage of change, is where you have accepted the change. The change may not necessarily be something you like, but you have accepted it. With time you will return to the first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With sufficient knowledge of this model of change, I will be able to handle the change much better. I will be able to get over the denial stage faster and into the confusion stage to get the knowledge I need for my change. This way of dealing with change will allow me to hit the renewal stage and enter back into my comfort stages, with a lot less stress. I also will be able to teach my Airman on the Janssen s Model of Change. I believe that sharing the knowledge with them will help them process change better as well. • 50. American Women During The Civil War After the Civil War, the Republicans had views that the defeat of the rebels and destruction of slavery were sufficient to guarantee prosperity for everyone. The traumatic events throughout the Civil War only intensified the desire among a growing group of American women to participate fully in the nation s political life. They were striving for a sense of agency in the United States not only as a collective whole, but also as individuals. Agency refers to the idea that each individual in a culture is free to determine his or her own actions and beliefs. For American women, this means to have the power to control their own life. Immediately after the Civil War, American women took matters into their own hands by aiming to extend their moral influences outside the narrow and exclusive sphere of the home. In 1886, the Equal Rights Association was founded by veteran reformers Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Lucy Stone(Jones, 387). The Equal Rights Association was created to link the rights of white women and African Americans. However, due to Kansas voters who defeated a referendum proposing suffrage for both African Americans and white women in 1867, the two causes decided to separate. In 1869, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony found the National Women Suffrage Association (NWSA) while Lucy Stone and her husband, Henry Blackwell, found the rival American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA). Anthony and Stone were divided by temperament and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
