Warfare In Frank O Connor s Guest Of A Nation
In terms of guerilla warfare, there are smaller groups of soldiers who are not part of a traditional army.
These combatants use military tactics to fight a larger, more established army. Bonaparte, the main
character in Frank O Connor s Guest of a Nation, and his comrade, Noble, are Irish rebels who are
holding two Englishmen, Belcher and Hawkins captive. One night, Bonaparte receives the truth: that
the two Englishmen are hostages and that ultimately he has to kill them. He stills hopes for
circumstances to change, so he can abandon his duty and spare their lives because he really has
nothing against them. Bonaparte grows to like Belcher and Hawkins despite their being on opposing
sides of the war and vice versa.
Bonaparte observes the Englishmen in the old lady s home. The woman is instantly taken by Belcher s
politeness. He addresses her as madam and readily helps her with her chores. Although Hawkins wasn
t quite the gentlemen, Bonaparte didn t dislike him. ...Hawkins had a deplorable tongue. I never met a
man who could mix such a variety of cursing and bad language into any argument, the narrator writes
(173). Even this doesn t stop Noble and Bonaparte from playing a few hands of cards with the two. ...

He notices how even though he is looking after them, the four of them had a natural chemistry and
after the first couple of days gave up all pretence of keeping an eye on them (173). Neither of the men

just petty quarrels and although money is lost during their card games, it is brushed

Theories of Classical Management
The classical approach were established and carried out in the early 1900centyry. Group of technician,
manager and scientist came up with idea in order to reduce industrial dispute. They are Frederick
Taylor the theory of scientific management, Max Weber theory of bureaucracy, and Henri Fayol
theory of classical management. Most of them theories were based on the principal for a
comprehensive theory of management. Now I am going to discuss about perspective view of each
theories. Frederick Taylor came up with the principal theory of scientific management. His theory put
emphasis on how an organisation can increase or gain their productivity through strong management
control and supervision on worker and planning and maintain structure of organisation. He believe in
so called Division of labour worker can do best and process can be run smoothly if worker assigned to
a limited number of specific task. He argued best result will out come if the employee appointed for a
specific task and monitor them closely. Taylor found out that lack of employee initiative in the work
place was the major issue of inefficient work in the organisation. He believes that the organisation
emphasis more on external job rather than focusing on internal process of the production line, giving
less priority to the external process created negative impact on organisation such as waste of time,
human effort and materials. The reasons behind that were at that time most of the organization used to

Summary Of The Limits Of Friendship By Maria Konnikova
Maria Konnikova s essay The Limits of Friendship, analyzes the impact of social media on close
relationships, addressing the people impacted by social media use. This essay published in The New
Yorker, a weekly magazine with scholarly authors, to inform the public on social media s impact on
our lives. She finds that social media has created a dependency on technology and online interactions.
Konnikova strives to inform that social media is decreasing close relationships, and persuades that it
will impact our future. She argues on the impact of increased dependency on social media on the
Dunbar number, hindering the development of future generations. Konnikova succeeds using strong
logic and scientific reason as well as appealing to emotions; however, she fails to prove her credibility
over the topic and instead relies on the credibility of Robin Dunbar.
To develop her argument, Konnikova supplies the reader with logic by using real life examples. One
example being notifying the audience of the research that the Dunbar number correlates with brain
size because it is simple to understand that group size and brain size flow together (par 1). Konnikova
applies Dunbar s historical findings to validate the size of a standard group (par 4). Showing the
reader that the Dunbar number accurately functions in society. Another example is her use of
clarifying the Dunbar number by examining Christmas cards in relation to social networks (par 5).
This enables the reader to have an

Critical Analysis of White Heron Essay
Critical Analysis of White Heron The White Heron is a spiritual story portraying great refinement and
concerns with higher things in life. A 9 year old girl once isolated in the city found fulfillment in a
farm surrounded by nature. Too those less unfortunate, money charm and other attractions can be
intoxicated; Sylvia did not bite. She could have helped her situation and found a way to wealth but in
the end she realized that it wouldn t help her to be the person she wanted to be. This paper will
illustrate a critical analysis of the story of White Heron and focus on the relationship between the
literary elements of the story, plot, characterization, style, symbolism and women s concerns that are

As she is developing, she is tantalized by the societal norms he represents. She is ready to give up the
backwoods (a symbol of herself) for all he (a symbol of society) has to offer. Convinced of that, she
sets off to find the secret of the elusive white heron and in order to find the heron, she had to climb to
what was literally the top of the world for her, the top of the pine tree. The world from the top was
different than the city and it was different from the woods at ground level. From the top her
perspective about the world changed, it was vast and awesome, and she understood her place in it
more than before. She understood it to mean more than to sacrifice her own self for the gifts this man
had to offer that were tantalizing but incapitable with her personality and true self. Characterization
The motive behind the hunter is he wants to shoot birds, study them and stuff them. QUOTE. The

Chronic Conditions That Can Not Be Cured
LTC s are chronic conditions that cannot be cured but can be maintained and symptomatically
controlled with medication and therapies (World Health Organisation [WHO], 2015; Department of
Health [DOH], 2005). The management of LTC s has been implemented due to the increase in the
ageing population which in turn produces an increase in the incidence of LTC s such as diabetes,
Parkinson Disease [PD], pernicious anaemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, neurological and
heart conditions. Due to word restriction the author will discuss diabetes and Parkinson s disease.
Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person s blood sugar to become too high or too low as
the pancreas no longer produces the right amount, or any, insulin (NHS Choices, 2014). Insulin is a
hormone which is released from the pancreas, working by moving sugar from the blood into other
body tissues enabling the liver to stop producing excessive glucose. There are two main types of
diabetes, type1 and type 2. Once known as childhood diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes, type 1 is
much rarer than type 2 diabetes which occurs when the body becomes resistant to the effects of insulin
(Mayo Clinic, 2016; MedlinePlus, 2016). Symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent
urination, tiredness, long healing wounds and unexplained weight loss which occurs due to glucose
staying in the blood (Diabetes UK, 2016). If a patient develops diabetes and diet change or
medications are unable to control

The Adventrue of Hucleberry Fin by Mark Twain
The classic novel Huckleberry Fin, by Mark Twain, has been debated of being appropriate or not due
to the racist content within. Many disagree with Mark Twain s use of derogatory terms and phrases
such as the word Nigger in his book. IT seems unlikely that anyone, of any color, who had actually
read Huckleberry Fin...could accuse of it being racist (Kaplan 20). Huckleberry Fin uses necessary
racism in order to show the culture and attributes of the time period as well as to portray Twains
message of promoting equality and that they are not morally better if they are one race over another.
What is now seen as racism was simply the culture and attributes during the time setting of the novel
(Toltzman 1). Huck Fin was written when cruel and unjust treatments of blacks were common and use
of derogatory words didn t get much attention. Huck Finn is during a time when blacks were not
treated or thought as people but as objects without personalities or emotions. For instance, Jim is
initially only knows to whose property he is. He was considered Miss Watson property that was about
to be sold, which resulted in him running away. The racist attitudes of the South are were most
obvious in the character of Huck Finn himself, and how he relates to the runaway slave, Jim. He plays
tricks on Jim and uses dialogue that makes him appear foolish or perhaps to make Jim painfully aware
of his own belittlement. During their entire journey Huck and Jim become closer. They achieved a

The Ethos Of The School Should Be Recognisable When Entering
The Ethos of the school should be recognisable when entering the school setting as it is part and parcel
of the environment of the school and the daily practice of the staff and pupils there. I am aware that all
adults that work and are part of the setting at Parkhill Infants School have an important responsibility
in modelling standards of behaviour, both in their dealings with children who attend the school and
amongst colleagues, as their own example has a momentous influence on the children. Good
associations and strong collaborations between adults will encourage the good behaviour in children.

Forensic Science And The Criminal Cases
Forensic science plays a role in most criminal cases. In addition, it has become part of mainstream
American culture due to television and programs that are based on solving crimes. The connection
between science and law has been full of ups and downs. In the courtroom, lawyers may find
themselves examining scientific notions that they do not have a full understanding of. Likewise,
judges, who are also unexperienced with scientific concepts, are forced to make the decision of
whether evidence is relevant and reliable. There is great concern surrounding the quality of our
forensic science system. However, the courts continue to rely on forensic evidence without having a
full understanding on the limitations of certain forensic science disciplines. There are rules that govern
the admissibility of forensic science in court. In the case, Bloodsworth v. State of Maryland, these
rules were not followed and the forensic evidence presented should not have been admissible in court.
Every attempt should be made to properly study techniques and have its accuracy verified before
being used to describe or analyze evidence in court. The standards for the admission of scientific
evidence developed gradually over the years. It started with the case, Frye v. United States, in which
the court concluded that evidence was not admissible unless it was generally accepted. Years later the
Federal Rule of Evidence 702 was implemented, which stated that the only requirement is that

Isaac Newton s Accomplishments
Isaac Newton was a physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and a
theologian in the seventeenth century. He was born on Christmas day, 1642, in Woolsthorpe, England.
He did poorly in school as a kid, and even dropped out for a while. But when he was nineteen, he
decided to go back to school, and attended Trinity College until graduating four years later. Five years
after that, England was at war and there was a terrible plague spreading. Newton was once again
attending school at the time, but his school temporarily shut down due to the plague. This gave him
lots of free time and during the eighteen months that his school was shut down, Isaac Newton made a
handful of incredible discoveries.

The Fiercest Rivalry In College Football In Birmingham,...
The Origins of the fiercest rivalry in all of college football began in Birmingham, Alabama in 1893. At
the time, Birmingham was known for its iron production, hence the college match up was named the
Iron Bowl, which comes from Birmingham s historic role in the steel industry. The teams met in
Birmingham s Lakeview Park, with Auburn (then the Agricultural and Mechanical College of
Alabama) winning 32 22. Both schools, Alabama and Auburn launched football programs in 1892,
Alabama considers this game to be the final one of that season, while Auburn considers it to be the
first of the 1893 season. Auburn won the very first game, which took place in February due to the
University s football schedule. The two teams met again in November of the same year, the traditional
date for the Iron Bowl, at Montgomery in which Auburn took its ... Show more content on

During the period from 1907 1948, both teams took a pause from playing each other. The two schools
stopped playing after the 1907 season because they could not agree on officiating crews and per diems
for players, but finally agreed to play again 40 years later. For Auburn, it could not have come at a
worse time. The Crimson Tide gave a 1 8 1 Tigers team their biggest beating of the series and one of
the greatest rivalries in college football was born.
We all know how much significance the Iron Bowl holds for those in the state of Alabama. However,
there hasn t quite been means to quantify the obvious importance.
Samford University s Sports Business Report looked to change this. Multiple individuals and
departments from the university completed an in depth look at the rivalry using big data. According to

The Death And Life Of Great American Cities By Jane Jacobs
Recently I read a book titled The Death and Life of Great American Cities written by Jane Jacobs
(1961), which basically criticizes the urban planning processes generally employed in the planning,
renovation and rebuilding of cities. Though it was published in 1961, the book is still considered a
relevant piece of work and offers great insight to the various and sometimes ignored or unseen facets
of the way a city organizes itself despite the city planning process. The book is considered many
professionals involved in the planning and design of cities a must read even today. In the book, Jacob
s states that she has identified four criteria which must be present in an urbanized environment for it to
be place which will naturally promote a self sustaining, and resilient socioeconomic character. The set
of the four criteria can be used a framework and a tool that will aid the planning process of the new
urbanism. The wave of change to be more sustainable is gaining some steam at present in Phoenix.
Which is a relatively large (7 million people) in the metropolitan area which is located in the
southwest United states. The City of Phoenix is my employer and where I currently reside. Therefore,
it must be said, that my conclusion s may have some element of bias in them even though I will make
a very concerted effort to avoid it. I expect that my evaluation of the presence or absence of the four
criteria will provide a point of reference which can be used to predict the

The Pros And Cons Of Retrenchment
Business The business should at any point of time, prepare for plant closing and retrenchment of the
employee, even if they are doing well. They can start by having a clearly defined policy about
retrenchment, including being transparent and stating its benefits. Under the Employment Act,
employees who have worked with the company for at least two years can request for the retrenchment
benefits. The amount that is to be paid to the employee is not fixed and the employer is not compelled
to do so, therefore, it would be left for the employer and employee to negotiate. However, the practice
in Singapore is that for every year of service by the employee, the employer would pay one month of
salary. This would reduce the possibility of the retrenched employee, bringing the case to the ministry.
As per Ministry of Manpower guidelines, the employer must give notice and offer the retrenchment
benefits to those employees that are eligible (Ministry Of Manpower 2015). The union would also
need to be inform and if the notice period is not stated in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The main reason for companies to retrench workers is likely to be because of cost cutting measures
due to financial difficulties and up till the extent of plant closing. The respective union role would
need to first advise and remind them on the alternatives to retrenchments such as temporary layoffs or
a shorter work week. However, retrenchment still takes place, in employment assistance to the
retrenched employees, the union can first help to negotiate the quantum payments, the retrenchment
and/or additional benefits for affected workers (Today Online 2013). For example, the retrenched
workers of HGST Singapore, received extended insurance coverage and was paid an additional three
months of union membership fees so that they can continue to enjoy the benefits (Today Online

Reflective Essay On Persepolis
Restrictions to closings, and prohibiting things without a strong evidence is against the freedom.
According to Rachael Jolley, editor of the Index on Censorship Magazine, governments show to their
citizens that they are not confident enough to control their behaviors when they start to control what
people should wear, and make it obligatory. Persepolis starts directly after the 1979 Iranian Islamic
revolution, which was a consequence of the fall of the rule of the dictator Shah of Iran. Persepolis as a
graphic autobiography by Marjane Satrapi representing her life when she was young, and up to her
grown up years in Iran during, and after the Iranian Islamic revolution. Throughout the story her
father, and mother host different family members that Marjane becomes emotionally connected to.
Also, her family were a modern family, and completely against the Religious Extremists. Marjane s
French school started to separate the students from into two groups; boys, and girls. And then they
started to make the girls wear the veil in her school, which was obligatory. Satrapi was very
successful, and effective in using the images to make it easy for the readers to understand her point of
view about the lack of freedom that happened during, and after the Iranian Islamic revolution.
Freedom is when the person has the ability to explain their different point of views without being
ignored, or rejected for political benefits. Persepolis for example, in this story there was so many signs

A Summary Of Water Contamination
It is vital to reduce contaminants and decrease the risk of microbes in drinking water. The process of
removing these contaminants is accomplished through water disinfection. Although water
decontamination can be accomplished through several methods, chemical disinfection is used most
frequently (Serrano, Silva, Gallego, 2011). When water disinfection methods are utilized, there is an
increased risk of health effects due to the production of by products. These byproducts are the result of
interactions between chemicals used for disinfection methods and natural organic matter (Bougeard,
Goslan, Jefferson, Bruce, and Parsons, 2010). While these by products impose such an inherent risk to
health, finding the apposite chemicals to diminish the risk of by product formation is imperative

In the similar time period Japanese Yen has been in the third position with a turnover position of
20.8% in the year 2005. The overall financial market currency structure has seen a decline in the
turnover position of the US Dollar to 85% from a strong position of 88%. Similarly a decline has been
in the position of the Japanese Yen to 17.2% from an acceptable turnover position of 20.8%. While
considering the trend of these two currencies during the period starting from 2007 and ending at 2010,
it is to be noted that minute changes were seen in the two different currencies with regards to their
share in foreign currency market. The US Dollar witnessed a continued fall to 84.9% from its previous
85.6% however, the Japanese Yen saw a rise from its previous position of 17.2% to an increase of1.8%
that is 19%. During the same time period the US dollar and Japanese Yen were the second most traded
paired currencies and was traded at around 14% of the overall foreign currency market second to the
US Dollar and Euro pair. Conclusion The foreign exchange market has seen considerable changes
owing to the global financial crisis. It is to be seen how different factors like economy and global
politics further impact strong currencies like the US Dollar and other competing currencies such as the
Japanese Yen.

Phage Display Essay
Phage display is a modern laboratory technique that is concerned with the study of not only protein
protein interactions but also protein peptide and protein DNA interactions through the use of a
bacteriophage. Phage display uses a bacteriophage or a virus that infects bacteria to connect phenotype
with genotype through the expression of a gene. This novel technique first starts by inserting a gene of
interest, which codes for a protein of interest, into the coat protein gene of the virus, thereby causing
the virus to express the gene both inside and outside in the form of a phenotype. The phages that
display a particular gene can be compared or rather screened against other proteins, peptides, and

After the financial crisis in 1998 and the decrease of imported ice cream, the market offered good
opportunities for new domestic entrants. They often already owned the facilities where they produced
for example frozen food and so it was relatively easy to change to ice cream production. With the
needed assets they already possessed they did not face economies of scale and high initial costs as
barrier to entry. And the new regional producers try to compete with the product differentiation by
selling cheaper no name brands. The threat of entry from international producers could also rise again,
if the Russian economy seems to be stable again. Now it will be look at the threat of rivalry for Ice Fili
coming from established competitors in the industry. Ice Fili s fiercest competitors were international
firms who had higher technology standards and better know how than the Russian companies. But
after the economic crisis in 1998 many of them, such as Ben Jerry s, left the Russian market. Those
who stayed invested in domestic production facilities and produced directly in Russia, as for example
Unilever, Baskin Robbins and Nestlé. By 2001 Unilever had almost withdrawn from the Russian ice
cream market due to lack of experience to deal specially with ice cream and the poor distribution of its
products. Baskin Robbins is still present. It has focused on the restaurant and café segment and offers
its brands at exceptionally high prices. As

Government Failure And Market Failure
Government failure and Market Failure
Introduction
Regulations imposed by the government in any economy determine the market efficiency and growth.
Policies and laws governing the flow of goods and out flow determined the internal trade affairs.
When the government formulates policies and regulations, which is the market conducive, efficiency
is enhanced. In such instances, the outcomes of the market yields can be predicted. Such ability of the
policies and regulations to enhance efficiency in the markets can be enabling the government to have
prior arrangements and plans concerning future economic goals. On the other hand, as the governing
body there is a need to establish the effectiveness of the current policies in enhancing marketing
efficiency. However, there is a need to establish the criteria for determining the correctness and
effectiveness of the regulations which are to be set. Governing body should intervene in the control of
the market regulations though independent bodies and private sectors should be involved in such
regulations formulations. Many economies, such the United states and United Kingdom, the
government has the power to intervene in the market policies. When the market fails in such instances,
the government is blamed for the failure. The modern economies advocates for more freedom of
choice in the formulation of regulations of the markets. Others concentrate on the efficiency of the
policies and regulations in the achievement of the market goals.

Offshoring and Outsourcing Term Paper
Term Paper The debate of outsourcing or offshoring American jobs rather than utilizing our
unemployed citizens has been a highly controversial topic in the past decade. Outsourcing has many
advantages to business firms such as lower production costs, lower labor costs, improved quality of
work, more time to focus on domestic operations, and increased profits which help stimulate our
economy. The opposing view argues that by outsourcing jobs to other countries it is causing higher
unemployment in America and stimulating the economies of other nations rather than our own by
providing them with jobs, resources, facilities and capital. Though there will never be a universal

Companies can now manage foreign partners in any country with use of the internet, webcams, phone
conferences, and even the ability to control and monitor finances, bookkeeping, and other operations
from computers at the offices here in America. Another trend America has seen over the past few
decades is the shift from manufacturing to services. With the ability to outsource production jobs the
American economy has been much more focused on service careers, which are something that can be
outsourced to serve foreign customers but will always have a place in the American marketplace since
services must be consumed at purchase, meaning to serve American customers the service providers
must operate within US borders. The ease of offshoring and the benefits it provides makes the idea of
global expansion very attractive, but there are still aspects of offshoring that make the concept
undesirable to others. There is large opposition to the idea of outsourcing jobs to foreign countries
when there is such a high level of unemployment here in America. By 2015 the number of American
jobs expected to be lost to outsourcing since 2000 is 3.3 million according to a recent report by
Forrester Research ( Outsourcing, PBS ). As of October 2010 the American unemployment rate is at

Crime In Milwaukee Case Study
The crimes in Milwaukee are becoming a big thing for everyone and it s putting Milwaukee higher

in Milwaukee and in every city around the world but lately the crime in Milwaukee has been getting
out of control and it s beginning to become a very unsafe place for everyone. The probability of being

Milwaukee once again a better place. The most problematic areas in Milwaukee are the North and
East sides. These issues are affecting everyone living in these areas, not only mentally as they re so

The first solution is to establish a neighborhood watch team for the most troubled neighborhoods.
Security equipment can be equipped around the blocks and it can be monitored on a shift basis by
willing locals. The price would be little to nothing if residents are very passionate in keeping their
neighborhood a safe place, they can work for free and in return they will have a secure neighborhood.
Security equipment can be either paid for by the city or the watch team can crowdfund for the funds to
pay for it all. Benefits for this solution will include less crime, criminals won t act as much knowing
that now someone is watching them, and new people can move into the neighborhoods. Some major
drawbacks that this can probably cause is residents not taking job seriously and lying about their shifts

Why I Want To Teach For America Essay
1 I seek to join Teach for America, because I seek to continue to serve others in my community and
my nation. I want to give others the opportunities that I have been afforded and inspire those who feel
hopeless. Throughout my career, I have seen what transformational and servant leaders can
accomplish in government and the private sectors. Why can t we have that in our classrooms? It s the
place where we are investing into future communities. Why not instill those value early and often into
our children so they will better decision makers in the future?
Secondly, I see Teach for America as an avenue to transition quickly from my former career into a

placed in location or school where I can serve not only as a teacher, but as an example to others. My
experiences and background can demonstrate a different path is available. This is why I seek to join.

Programs and Services On the Tom Green County Juvenile Probation Resources website, I found quite
a few programs and services that I believe would work for adolescents who are either at risk or
already in the juvenile justice system. The programs and services are: the High Sky Children s Ranch,
The West Texas Boys Ranch, The Concho Valley Home for Girls, House of Faith, The Youth Advocate
Program, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters program. The reason I believed these types of programs
and services would work is because they all include some type of support, counseling and/or
mentoring for adolescents and juveniles. The types of programs and service are extremely important
because they offer adolescents and juveniles resources they may not be receiving at their home life.
The programs and services I found to be more politically motivated are: The Department of Family
and Protective Services (CPS) and The Texas Juvenile Justice Department. The reasons I find them
politically motivated is because they are programs that are ran by the government, so they focused
more on making money rather than offering help. They may offer help, but only to a certain extent due
to the many regulations they have abide by. Disproportionate Although I was unable to determine the

Figurative Language In The Highwayman
Have you ever read a poem that just keeps you wonder the whole time.If not than you have never read
the poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. The poem is about a Highwayman who is someone who

one night and when he came back they were going to run away together. Someone told the soldier that
the highway man would come back for bess because he was in love with her. So the soldier took Bess
tied her up and was going to make her watch her beloved get killed, so she could warn him she shoot

metaphor is when you compare one thing to another without using like or as. The metaphors in the

The flag is a national symbol of our country that represents all Americans. Americans have fought and
died for over 200 hundred years for our flag to continue to be flown in our free country. The United
States flag is so important to the U.S. that presidents and other legislators have tried to go against this
ruling. Most recently was President Trump, but Hillary Clinton and former president George H.W.
Bush have all proposed legislation to protect the flag. This shows that the American flag does not
represent just one political party. Finally, multiple other countries have made it illegal to burn their
country s flag. France, Italy, Finland, Germany, China, and 11 other countries have made it illegal to

Edward Hopper Painted The Night Hawks
In 1942, American artist Edward Hopper painted The Night Hawks. This oil painting, is a 33 1/8th in.
x 60 in. piece. Hopper used oil paint on canvas, to create this piece. Currently this piece is located at
the Art Institute of Chicago. In The Night Hawks, a city diner is depicted sometime at night. The
buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people
present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There
are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know
that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an
exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this
painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first
element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows,
to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used
to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are
reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in
it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can
be seen on the buildings across the street. This

Wilson Vs Macomber Essay

writer s craft of perspective to develop the characterization of the three protagonists. Wilson,
Margaret, and Macomber s characterization develops through multiple perspectives and techniques
that help to create a consistently negative tone. Through reading this story, readers can better
understand how to view other people s actions and their own.
In Hemingway s short story, it is evident to readers that Wilson, despite being a professional hunter, is
self centered, refuses to take responsibility for his actions, and is unethical. Wilson s self centered,

his acceptance and normalization of sleeping with married women. On page nineteen, the text states
that, He, Robert Wilson, carried a double size cot on safari to accommodate any windfalls he might

Wilson is. Not only does he commit shameful acts and justify himself, but he does it on a regular basis

Analysis Of Sophocles Antigone By Sophocles And The...
Since ancient times, Greece has honored the importance of family relationships and values through
their literature and culture. The importance of kinship is seen explicitly in the plays Antigone by
Sophocles and The Libation Bearers by Aeschylus. Both plays utilize family values as their central
theme and root of action. The depth of blood bonds is the driving force behind the thoughts, actions
and decisions of the characters and the conflict and plot in the plays. However, the path that each
character takes branches from this theme. Though the source of motivation in both plays coincide, the
characters in each play approach familial values differently. While the characters in Antigone respond
in a more traditional and proper way, the characters in The Libation Bearer that respond with bloody
and dark actions. In Antigone, Antigone s actions are spurred by love and loyalty towards her brother,
Polyneices. When her brother s corpse is left to rot without a proper burial, Antigone takes it upon
herself to bury her brother against the threat of death penalty administered by Creon who had assumed
the throne of her land. Antigone is the paradigm of piety by showing unwavering loyalty to her brother
even in the face of death. I shall never be found his traitor (Sophocles 22). The word traitor implies
that Antigone sees inaction as a betrayal to her brother. She feels obligated to bury his corpse even
though her brother and her parents are unable to pass judgement upon her.

The iconic symbol of America, the statue of liberty, has stood since 1886, when it was given as a gift

for the abolishment of slavery in America. It was given as a sign of friendship and the mutual desire

This is very relevant to the immigrants who were welcomed in to America by her. Many of them came

protecting arms of the statue of liberty. The statue s headwear is a crown that closely resembles a halo.
This implies that America s value of freedom is good and just. To add more to this righteous image,
the spikes on her crown relate to the spikes of the Greek sun god Apollo and the roman sun god

Shakespeare Cross Dressing
3) Throughout the semester, one thing that was noticeable throughout Shakespeare s plays was the
cross dressing of women. The cross dressing of women occurred in Cymbeline, The Two Gentleman
of Verona, and The Merchant of Venice. Shakespeare appeared to be ahead of his time in knowing
what we know now. Through showcasing women, successfully disguising as men Shakespeare proves
that gender is nothing more than a performance. During this era, women were not allowed to play
women parts in the Shakespeare plays. However, this did not stop Shakespeare from having women
parts in his plays. Having men perform feminine parts in the plays did not stop people from attending
the Shakespeare plays as well. What resonates in all three of these plays is that the women

Shakespeare proves through these actions that gender is nothing, but a performance. These men have
been men all their lives, but these women are better at being men than they are. Also, Shakespeare is
hinting back on the narrative that people are not always, what they appear to be. In Shakespeare, the
male characters take the women dressed up as men at face value. They never question the identity of
the women pretending to be men. Here Shakespeare is debunking the subservient role of the women in
society. All three of these women appear to be strong women who go after the things that they want.
He was well ahead of his time showcasing that gender is just a performance. Also, the male characters
in Shakespeare are always heavenly flawed, but the female characters appear to have little to no flaws.
Although he has the women, characters transform back into their subservient roles he delivers his
message. The viewing audience at the time probably was not ready for women of that stature yet.
However, he proves a point that gender is just a performance and no sex is better than the other

Febrile Epilepsy Research Paper
Each year, one in one hundred people in the United State develop epilepsy, but there is a less common
type of epilepsy. It s called febrile infection related epileptic syndrome, more commonly known as
FIRES. I happen to know one of the few people who have this type of epilepsy. Her name is Kailee,
and she goes to my brother s school. She was even in some of his classes. This type of epilepsy occurs
in school aged children between the ages of six and seventeen ( What is FIRES? ). It starts with a mild
febrile illness that lasts anywhere from four days to two weeks. Febrile illness is when someone has a
fever but they aren t sick with anything else ( Febrile Illness ). When Kaylee was at this point, her
mom thought she had the flu. This is very common, as the flu presents itself as a fever in many
children. Then, the child starts to have seizures. The seizures occur very quickly, and the child needs
to be hospitalized immediately at this point. Seizures the children experience are non focal, meaning
they have no consistent starting point or ending point in the brain ( What is FIRES ). The disease is

FIRES could be a result of the febrile illness that comes before the seizures. The idea is that the

The Negative Importance Of Eugenics As A Science
Eugenics is a science that Francis Galton developed that holds an extensive amount of negative
connotations now and should continue to do so as long as life thrives on Earth. As people who want to
develop this science are usually those who believe that there are people who are born superior and that
there are people who are born inferior; that there are traits that you cannot change no matter what.
This type of belief has been backed up with Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection and with
Galton s own ideas of hard heredity, and even lead to the advancement of eugenic policies like
sterilization laws. And even though eugenics did lose credibility because of Nazis, it is still shown
nowadays, such as in prison.
There were two main biological beliefs that were taken to support eugenics natural selection and hard
heredity. Natural selection was Darwin s theory that stated that over time the weak will gradually
depreciate, leaving only the strong. However, with eugenics being discussed, people were creating
policies that would make natural selection proceed at a much faster rate. And so it got into people s
mind that if you re strong, it s alright to eradicate the weak forcefully because it was going to happen
anyway. Hard heredity, which was produced by Galton, however, was the idea that the mental, moral,
and physical qualities of a person are taken from your parents. And that even if one of your parents

Arthur Andersen Case
1. What did Arthur Anderson contribute to the Enron disaster?
Arthur Andersen (AA) contributed to the Enron disaster when AA consulting became its own separate
entity, named Accenture. Revenues from consulting services surpassed revenue from auditing
services. A natural competitiveness grew between the two rivals and this is where the problems began
to start. Management held maximinizing revenues as their primary focus of success and
promotions/bonuses were based on this factor. The CEO of AA, Joe Berardino, was an extremely
aggressive pursuer of revenue. This set a negative culture at the top of the company and partners were

light on what he believed was an arm s length transaction by emailing Duncan to object setting up
LJM Partnership (LJM was a company set up by former Enron CFO Andrew Fastow). Duncan
overruled Bass on the first memo and shortly after the second attempt where he questioned the CFO,
Andrew Fastow and his role with the SPE s was Duncan removed from the Enron account entirely. In
any other of the Big 5 firms, Bass would have been able to overrule Duncan. However, this is a great

Pearl Harbor Battle Analysis Paper
Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor was one of the most tragic events in the history of the United States. The
Japanese used the element of surprise to win a decisive victory in the battle. Using critical reasoning
and battle analysis, we can identify the shortcomings that led to this loss. One such shortcoming was
the misuse of the SCR 270 Radar. This paper will fashion an alternate future through this system s
proper employment accounting for its battlefield effect. This paper will also analyze the second and
third order effects this alternate future would have on history. By conducting critical reasoning and
battle analysis, we may be able to see future weaknesses and better manage our intelligence processes.
December 7, 1941 was a tipping point in US history. On this day, the Japanese Navy attacked the US
Navy s Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. US forces suffered great losses
during this attack. A total of 2,400 Soldiers and Sailors lost their lives, while an additional 1,200
sustained injuries. The attack also claimed three hundred and twenty six planes and eight of the Navy
s Battle Ships (Davenport, 2008). Fortunately, the US Pacific ... Show more content on

During this time, the majority of US citizens favored an isolationist approach to the war, allowing the
economy to grow without committing to either side. This fear stemmed from losses during WWI and
people were apprehensive about entering into another world war. Had losses at Pearl Harbor been less
substantial, the US populace would not have provided support to the war effort. This delay in US
involvement would cause Europe, as a whole, to fall. The global impact of these implications would
cost millions of lives in the end. While this was a short term tactical victory for Japan, the attack on
Pearl Harbor turned into a long term strategic defeat (Clayton 2009, p.

Character Analysis Of Dee s Everyday Use
As one of the vital characters in Everyday Use, Dee characterizes what every young adult finding
themselves can relate to. She is very comfortable in her skin as the story unfolds and is one that many
cling to. Although very popular with others she does not exhibit this same quality with her family.
Soon after graduating his school she leaves her family to find herself. She soon return different in
many ways starting with her new name. Soon we find that despite her many changes in life she still
had a place in her that so desperately longs for the things of her past. In general in Everyday Use, as a
new found woman Dee is focused on growing into a new person, but still longs to connect with her
heritage. Dee can be initially viewed as a complex character throughout the short story as she evolves
to separate herself from but soon returns looking to claim the things of the past she so desperately
sought to separate from. The character Dee can be defined as self centered. She displays this initially
during the burning of the first house. While her sister is trapped in the house by fire and being rescued
by her mother Dee stands far away merely looking on. This speaks volumes to her lack of concern for
others. Where the average person in the same position may attempt to lend help or offer some sort of
assistance she clearly is only concerned about her own safe. This sets a clear tone of the relationship
between Dee and the other main characters in the story. Similarly to a younger version of Dee when
she returns home she has no regard for others. When Dee returns home she immediately comes in and
begins claiming things that belong to other family members without concern for them or their wanting
of those items. This is most significantly noted in the mention of the quilt that actually had been
promised to Maggie. Despite already having been promised to Maggie, Dee claims the quilt as her
own then gives reason, which she somehow feels are valid, as a way of staking claim of the quilt. `
Although Mama stood up for Maggie during the attempted claiming of the quilt when Mama describes
Dee we can see that she almost excuses Dee for being the way she is. This notion is made apparent as
Mama starts by describing

Physical And Social Context Of The Building
Examine the physical and social context of the building
The Glass House is a building in which personal qualities are a vital component of the construction
framework. The house is focusing on the correlation between an individual and buildings. There are
architectural rules including conventions that establish a guide and maintain traditional approaches to
building structures. However, Phillip Johnson operates against these standards of design rules and
highlights the modernistic period due to the buildings orientation and non traditional materials. The
structure of the house is revealing the materials and aesthetic qualities.
The house further highlights that Phillip Johnson works in a non social vacuum. However, he reflects
several aspects of social structures. Having these aspects influences and demonstrates how, when, time
and place the structure was built. Glass House remains located in a tropical environment away from
street view, due to it being secluded and isolated. The primary materials applied consist of paints,
glass, bricks and furniture. The physical context of the environment constantly shifts the efficiency
and sustainability of the materials. Resulting in a constant change in colour and odour, mainly due to
environmental factors such as change of temperature.
The house being secluded from public display enables the house to be private and only exposed to the
tropical environment. The interior of the glass house has a cylindrical brick structure that

  • 2. Warfare In Frank O Connor s Guest Of A Nation In terms of guerilla warfare, there are smaller groups of soldiers who are not part of a traditional army. These combatants use military tactics to fight a larger, more established army. Bonaparte, the main character in Frank O Connor s Guest of a Nation, and his comrade, Noble, are Irish rebels who are holding two Englishmen, Belcher and Hawkins captive. One night, Bonaparte receives the truth: that the two Englishmen are hostages and that ultimately he has to kill them. He stills hopes for circumstances to change, so he can abandon his duty and spare their lives because he really has nothing against them. Bonaparte grows to like Belcher and Hawkins despite their being on opposing sides of the war and vice versa. Bonaparte observes the Englishmen in the old lady s home. The woman is instantly taken by Belcher s politeness. He addresses her as madam and readily helps her with her chores. Although Hawkins wasn t quite the gentlemen, Bonaparte didn t dislike him. ...Hawkins had a deplorable tongue. Summary Of The Limits Of Friendship By Maria Konnikova Maria Konnikova s essay The Limits of Friendship, analyzes the impact of social media on close relationships, addressing the people impacted by social media use. This essay published in The New Yorker, a weekly magazine with scholarly authors, to inform the public on social media s impact on our lives. She finds that social media has created a dependency on technology and online interactions. Konnikova strives to inform that social media is decreasing close relationships, and persuades that it will impact our future. She argues on the impact of increased dependency on social media on the Dunbar number, hindering the development of future generations. Konnikova succeeds using strong logic and scientific reason as well as appealing to emotions; however, she fails to prove her credibility over the topic and instead relies on the credibility of Robin Dunbar. To develop her argument, Konnikova supplies the reader with logic by using real life examples. One example being notifying the audience of the research that the Dunbar number correlates with brain size because it is simple to understand that group size and brain size flow together (par 1). Konnikova applies Dunbar s historical findings to validate the size of a standard group (par 4). Showing the reader that the Dunbar number accurately functions in society. Another example is her use of clarifying the Dunbar number by examining Christmas cards in relation to social networks (par 5). This enables the reader to have an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The management of LTC s has been implemented due to the increase in the ageing population which in turn produces an increase in the incidence of LTC s such as diabetes, Parkinson Disease [PD], pernicious anaemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, neurological and heart conditions. Due to word restriction the author will discuss diabetes and Parkinson s disease. Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person s blood sugar to become too high or too low as the pancreas no longer produces the right amount, or any, insulin (NHS Choices, 2014). Insulin is a hormone which is released from the pancreas, working by moving sugar from the blood into other body tissues enabling the liver to stop producing excessive glucose. There are two main types of diabetes, type1 and type 2. Once known as childhood diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes, type 1 is much rarer than type 2 diabetes which occurs when the body becomes resistant to the effects of insulin (Mayo Clinic, 2016; MedlinePlus, 2016). • 8. The Adventrue of Hucleberry Fin by Mark Twain The classic novel Huckleberry Fin, by Mark Twain, has been debated of being appropriate or not due to the racist content within. Many disagree with Mark Twain s use of derogatory terms and phrases such as the word Nigger in his book. IT seems unlikely that anyone, of any color, who had actually read Huckleberry Fin...could accuse of it being racist (Kaplan 20). Huckleberry Fin uses necessary racism in order to show the culture and attributes of the time period as well as to portray Twains message of promoting equality and that they are not morally better if they are one race over another. What is now seen as racism was simply the culture and attributes during the time setting of the novel (Toltzman 1). Huck Fin was written when cruel and unjust treatments of blacks were common and use of derogatory words didn t get much attention. Huck Finn is during a time when blacks were not treated or thought as people but as objects without personalities or emotions. For instance, Jim is initially only knows to whose property he is. He was considered Miss Watson property that was about to be sold, which resulted in him running away. The racist attitudes of the South are were most obvious in the character of Huck Finn himself, and how he relates to the runaway slave, Jim. • 10. Forensic Science And The Criminal Cases Forensic science plays a role in most criminal cases. In addition, it has become part of mainstream American culture due to television and programs that are based on solving crimes. The connection between science and law has been full of ups and downs. In the courtroom, lawyers may find themselves examining scientific notions that they do not have a full understanding of. Likewise, judges, who are also unexperienced with scientific concepts, are forced to make the decision of whether evidence is relevant and reliable. There is great concern surrounding the quality of our forensic science system. However, the courts continue to rely on forensic evidence without having a full understanding on the limitations of certain forensic science disciplines. There are rules that govern the admissibility of forensic science in court. In the case, Bloodsworth v. State of Maryland, these rules were not followed and the forensic evidence presented should not have been admissible in court. Every attempt should be made to properly study techniques and have its accuracy verified before being used to describe or analyze evidence in court. The standards for the admission of scientific evidence developed gradually over the years. It started with the case, Frye v. United States, in which the court concluded that evidence was not admissible unless it was generally accepted. Years later the Federal Rule of Evidence 702 was implemented, which stated that the only requirement is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book is considered many professionals involved in the planning and design of cities a must read even today. In the book, Jacob s states that she has identified four criteria which must be present in an urbanized environment for it to be place which will naturally promote a self sustaining, and resilient socioeconomic character. Under the Employment Act, employees who have worked with the company for at least two years can request for the retrenchment benefits. The amount that is to be paid to the employee is not fixed and the employer is not compelled to do so, therefore, it would be left for the employer and employee to negotiate. The process of removing these contaminants is accomplished through water disinfection. Although water decontamination can be accomplished through several methods, chemical disinfection is used most frequently (Serrano, Silva, Gallego, 2011). When water disinfection methods are utilized, there is an increased risk of health effects due to the production of by products. These byproducts are the result of interactions between chemicals used for disinfection methods and natural organic matter (Bougeard, Goslan, Jefferson, Bruce, and Parsons, 2010). Ice Fili s fiercest competitors were international firms who had higher technology standards and better know how than the Russian companies. But after the economic crisis in 1998 many of them, such as Ben Jerry s, left the Russian market. Those who stayed invested in domestic production facilities and produced directly in Russia, as for example Unilever, Baskin Robbins and Nestlé. By 2001 Unilever had almost withdrawn from the Russian ice cream market due to lack of experience to deal specially with ice cream and the poor distribution of its products. • 25. Government Failure And Market Failure Government failure and Market Failure Introduction Regulations imposed by the government in any economy determine the market efficiency and growth. Policies and laws governing the flow of goods and out flow determined the internal trade affairs. When the government formulates policies and regulations, which is the market conducive, efficiency is enhanced. In such instances, the outcomes of the market yields can be predicted. Such ability of the policies and regulations to enhance efficiency in the markets can be enabling the government to have prior arrangements and plans concerning future economic goals. On the other hand, as the governing body there is a need to establish the effectiveness of the current policies in enhancing marketing efficiency. However, there is a need to establish the criteria for determining the correctness and effectiveness of the regulations which are to be set. Governing body should intervene in the control of the market regulations though independent bodies and private sectors should be involved in such regulations formulations. Many economies, such the United states and United Kingdom, the government has the power to intervene in the market policies. When the market fails in such instances, the government is blamed for the failure. The modern economies advocates for more freedom of choice in the formulation of regulations of the markets. Offshoring and Outsourcing Term Paper Term Paper The debate of outsourcing or offshoring American jobs rather than utilizing our unemployed citizens has been a highly controversial topic in the past decade. Outsourcing has many advantages to business firms such as lower production costs, lower labor costs, improved quality of work, more time to focus on domestic operations, and increased profits which help stimulate our economy. The opposing view argues that by outsourcing jobs to other countries it is causing higher unemployment in America and stimulating the economies of other nations rather than our own by providing them with jobs, resources, facilities and capital. Another trend America has seen over the past few decades is the shift from manufacturing to services. With the ability to outsource production jobs the American economy has been much more focused on service careers, which are something that can be outsourced to serve foreign customers but will always have a place in the American marketplace since services must be consumed at purchase, meaning to serve American customers the service providers must operate within US borders. The ease of offshoring and the benefits it provides makes the idea of global expansion very attractive, but there are still aspects of offshoring that make the concept undesirable to others. There is large opposition to the idea of outsourcing jobs to foreign countries when there is such a high level of unemployment here in America. The buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows, to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in it. The importance of kinship is seen explicitly in the plays Antigone by Sophocles and The Libation Bearers by Aeschylus. Both plays utilize family values as their central theme and root of action. The depth of blood bonds is the driving force behind the thoughts, actions and decisions of the characters and the conflict and plot in the plays. However, the path that each character takes branches from this theme. Though the source of motivation in both plays coincide, the characters in each play approach familial values differently. While the characters in Antigone respond in a more traditional and proper way, the characters in The Libation Bearer that respond with bloody and dark actions. In Antigone, Antigone s actions are spurred by love and loyalty towards her brother, Polyneices. When her brother s corpse is left to rot without a proper burial, Antigone takes it upon herself to bury her brother against the threat of death penalty administered by Creon who had assumed the throne of her land. Antigone is the paradigm of piety by showing unwavering loyalty to her brother even in the face of death. I shall never be found his traitor (Sophocles 22). She is very comfortable in her skin as the story unfolds and is one that many cling to. Although very popular with others she does not exhibit this same quality with her family. Soon after graduating his school she leaves her family to find herself. She soon return different in many ways starting with her new name. Soon we find that despite her many changes in life she still had a place in her that so desperately longs for the things of her past. In general in Everyday Use, as a new found woman Dee is focused on growing into a new person, but still longs to connect with her heritage. Dee can be initially viewed as a complex character throughout the short story as she evolves to separate herself from but soon returns looking to claim the things of the past she so desperately sought to separate from. The character Dee can be defined as self centered. She displays this initially during the burning of the first house. While her sister is trapped in the house by fire and being rescued by her mother Dee stands far away merely looking on. This speaks volumes to her lack of concern for others. Where the average person in the same position may attempt to lend help or offer some sort of assistance she clearly is only concerned about her own safe. This sets a clear tone of the relationship between Dee and the other main characters in the story. Similarly to a younger version of Dee when she returns home she has no regard for others.
