4. Extraction Forceps
These instruments are specifically designed for removing teeth from their socket.
Extraction forceps are used to deliver previously luxated teeth and should not be
used to pull teeth out of their sockets. In addition, the extraction forceps can
expand the alveolar bone when used under controlled forces.

16. Bone Harvesters
Autogenous bone harvesting is a well-documented surgical procedure used to
harvest bone grafts for use in various reconstructive procedures. This technique in
dental implant dentistry involves the removal of bone from a donor site in the
patient's own body, which is then transplanted to the desired site.

19. Elevators
Elevators (also known as luxators) are instruments used in dental extractions. They
may be used to loosen teeth prior to forceps extraction, to remove roots or
impacted teeth, when teeth are compromised and susceptible to fracture or when
they are malpositioned and cannot be reached with forceps.

Lexits–Directions for
Use
•Hold the instrument in the palm of your hand with the forefinger extended on
the shaft pointing to the tip. This position allows maximum tactile sensation
and instrument control.
•The tip of the instrument is inserted into the pe riodontal ligament space in
the direction of the long axis of the tooth or root.
•The thin blade will penetrate the ligament space to the depth of full
compression of the ligament.
•Using a gentle axial reciprocating rotation with increased apical force, the
hydraulic effect occurs from the compression of the ligament and the root
wllbe lifted from the confines of its bony socket.
•It is important that you protect the tissues and structures adjacent to the
surgical site.
•It is recommended that you place the thumb and forefinger of the opposite
hand around the alveolar ridge at the surgical site.
•This placement increases tactile feel to detect immediately any movement of
the tooth or dislocation of the EAZ Out.

31. Periosteals /Bone Files /Bone
Curettes
Periosteal elevators are dental surgical instruments that are used to lift and reflect
the periosteum, which is a thin layer of tissue that covers the bone. They are
commonly used in dental procedures such as: tooth extraction, implant surgery,
bone grafting and sinus lift.
The bone curette may be used to collect a bone sample for a biopsy, to determine
the health of the bone in certain areas of the jaw or to prepare the bone for dental
implant placement.

40. Retractors
Cheek retractors are important for keeping the soft tissues away from the teeth
and allowing easy camera viewing of the dentition. Generally, these come in plastic
or stainless steel, although plastic retractors are more comfortable for patients. It is
important to ensure that these are autoclavable.

procedure of the patient.
