Compare And Contrast Captain Hook And Peter Pan
One thing you didn t know about Disney villains is most of them wear black, purple, red or
some combination of the three colors. Captain hook is a vicious feared pirate from the movie
Peter Pan who has his own crew. With a hook as a hand, he makes his pirate crew look for his
archenemy peter pan and they all try to hunt him down like crazy. Then there s Shere Khan from
the movie The Jungle Book a strong elegant Bengal tiger. He is basically the lord of the jungle. A
lone wolf who hates human beings because he believes they are soulless creatures and hunts down
a boy by the name Mowgli. Captain Hookand Shere Khan are seen as they have similar character
traits but closer analysis shows how both their hatred towards someone really motivates... Show

Shere Khan appears in the movie The Jungle Book as Bengal tiger having hatred towards
humans. Shere Khan proves how ruthless he is by hunting down Mowgli. Shere Khan s hatred
/fear towards human makes him go after Mowgli as soon as he finds out the human is lost
somewhere in the jungle. Shere Khan actually finds the human and tries to scare him, but
Mowgli doesn t get frighten, so Shere Khan attempts a killing blow. Shere Khan jumped at
Mowgli intending to bite his head off. This is basically attempt of first degree murder, Shere
khan planned to find Mowgli and once he found him he was going to kill him. Although Shere
Khan does not get to Mowgli (due to the help of Mowgli s jungle friends) letting Mowgli escape,
this shows how ruthless Shere Khan is proving he is not forbearing. Not only can Shere Khan
show how ruthless he is, but he also shows how manipulative he is. Shere Khan is determined to
get to the human Mowgli by any means necessary; there is very devious stuff he does to get to
the human. Shere Khan is known to be a smooth talking Bengal tiger. As smooth as he is he also
quietly hears other people s conversations, then makes friends with the snake in the movie and sets
up Mowgli, leading the snake to do the dirty work trapping Mowgli, then forcing the snake to
leave. Shere Khan then had Mowgli all to himself

This time is famous for expansions and explorations of the British Empire through Africa and
Asia. The British Navy fought throughout the 19th century, but queen Victoria was still
bothered by the Irish problem throughout her empire. Victoria s failure at the Boer War left her
humiliated and upset. In 1899, British armies went south to Africa, fighting the second Boer
War. This war lasted from October 1899 to May 1902. During this time Victoria was concerned
about her army and navy, and felt as though she wanted to lift their spirits. She decided to send
them chocolate from home as a Christmas and New Year gift. Due to the Industrial Revolution,
the English society was divided into three classes. There was the Church and Aristocracy, the
Middle Class and the Poor, Working Class. The Victorians were deeply religious, and families
were generally large. People were more often than not Christian, churchgoers, and read the Bible
regularly. By the end of Queen Victoria s reign, people were starting to doubt Christianity or the
organized religion. This has been reflected in Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities . The
beginning of her era started off with rapid economic growth and optimism, but later led to the
disintegration of the British Empire. When she first stared ruling, two men influenced her: Lord
Melbourne, her first Prime Minister, and her husband, Prince Albert, whom she wed in 1840. Both

What Are The Six Principles Of Persuasion
This assignment is about the six principles of persuasion. A situation will also be described, either
real or fiction, where I have used these principles. The six principles of persuasion are reciprocity ,
scarcity , authority , commitment and consistency , consensus , and liking (McLean, S., 2010).
Reciprocity is the obligation/duty that people feel to give back to others who gave them something.
The things which are given can be anything. For example, politicians, when they are campaigning
before an election, can help people by giving them food, money, things, etc, so that they can return
the favor by voting for them. Businesses also help the community so that they can persuade the
people to return the favor by doing business with them.
Scarcity is the limitation in the amount of resources. In business, scarcity is used to make people ...

I had an YXTEL phone I have been using for about two years and I decided to sell it after I bought
a smart phone. So, one of my friends, came looking for a second hand phone and I persuaded him
to buy which he did afterwards. I believed I did use all the six principles of persuasion. I used liking
in the sense that I always liked him and he was my friend. So, he likes me back that s why he
came to me and bought it. I used scarcity in the sense that I told him that if he does get it, it won t
be there the following day. I used authority in the sense that I was confident in the wellness of the
phone and I know a lot about phones. The other principle I have used is reciprocity, in that I used
to do favors for him like changing the phone settings in the past. Consensus was also used in that I
told him that people who buy from me never come back to complain that I sold them a damaged
product/phone. I also used commitment and consistency in that I gave him the phone before paying

Rhetorical Analysis Of Hoop Dreams Directed By Steve James
The purpose of the documentary Hoop Dreams directed by Steve James, is to show how people
from different backgrounds can create their own destiny based on the choices they make for
themselves. The beginning of the documentary introduces the viewers to William Gates and Arthur
Agee s aspiring dreams to become NBA basketball players. Steve James uses rhetorical and
cinematic techniques to achieve this purpose.
In the beginning of the film, James begins by using the indirect interview technique with William
and Arthur to appeal to ethos. The interviews are conducted in both of the boys homes in order to
show the viewers the poor conditions they are living in. The interviews also illustrate the similar
backgrounds and culture that both the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The middle of the documentary reflects the different values and paths the characters begin to
make for themselves. Steve James begins using other cinematic techniques like a point of view
shot in order to show the relationship between Arthur s strained relationship with his father.
There is a scene where Arthur watches his dad buy drugs near the basketball court. The point of
shot helped appeal to ethos, because the viewers were able to relate to Arthur s sadness and
loneliness more easily. James uses sad non diegetic music to show how bad Arthur s home life
has gotten. The music plays when Arthur s mom talks about losing her job, which signifies how
traumatic this event is. Steve James uses a primary footage technique to show how Arthur has
lost focus in school. The footage shows Arthur goofing off in class with his troubled friend. The
technique helps show how Arthur s life is slowly falling apart, and how his values and motivation
have shifted and not for the better. Meanwhile, William is being helped financially in his new
school which is keeping him motivated to succeed. The director uses the non diegetic music
technique to show how well William is doing on the new basketball team. The purpose of this is
to show how William is succeeding in his new school. Steve James also uses

The Greek Storage Jar ( Amphora ) Depicting Man And Boy
The Greek Storage Jar (Amphora) depicting man and boy was created around 550 540 BCE. It
was found in Ancient Greece. The amphora storage jar is made out of terracotta and it is eleven
inches in height. Then it was painted on with black and brown paint. This jars colors are used to
create contrast, the lines are used to unify it, the shapes on the object are the most important part
of the image and patterns are used on the jar to help fill the space on the jar. Therefore colors are
used to create contrast. There are three different colors on the jar: the natural colorof the terracotta,
the brown paintand the black paint. Since terracotta is a neutral color it provides an excellent
background for the painting. Black is a very dark color and it makes the people and the designs
stick out. People use black paint when they want their design to be important. Brown is a neutral
color and it is used to show the not so prominent part of the image. The little bit of brown paint
shows the ground the people are standing on. It also unifies the other places where it appears.
Looking at the top there is a pattern painted with both the black and brown paint to show contrast.
After contrast is seen unity is also seen with lines. Lines are used to unify the artistic image on the
Greek storage jar. The thicker the line the more important it is, the thinner the line the less
important it is. The lines create objects which then create the entire image. Many different patterns

Alexander Petrunkevitch s The Spider And The Wasp
Alexander Petrunkevitch wrote The Spider and the Wasp to explain how the wasp uses the
tarantula to provide a life for the larva, baby wasp. Most tarantulas live in the tropics, but there are
a few in the southern U.S. living in deep burrows. The spider s bite is dangerous to the small
mammals and insects, but a human will be able to hold the tarantula in their hand, if one is gentle.
The males wander at night to find a female to mate with. The male tarantula dies after mating, while
the female lives much longer, and continues to mate. The female spidercan continue mating. The
female tarantula can lay two hundred to four hundred eggs at a time. Tarantula s eyesight and
hearing is poor, but the tarantulas has an excellent sense of touch.

The Morality Of Genetically Modified Animals For The...
There are two sides to the morality of genetically modifying animals for the purpose of pharming
and xenotransplantation: the potential benefits and the reality. Although genetic modification of
mammals carries promises of being able to use said modified mammals as a source of materials
used in pharmaceuticals or creating mammalian species with organs that can be transplanted in
humans, the reality is that reproductive cloningin mammals has a low success rate. Because of the
high demand for organs including hearts, livers, and kidneys, scientists have since turned to
genetically modifying mammals such as pigs as a source of potential organs for transplant. This has
involved disruption of genes in pigs that cause tissue rejection in humans or knocking out genes that
allow transmission of retroviruses. Similarly, some sheep have been genetically modified to secrete
through their milk, the humanfactor IX needed by hemophiliacs. Despite these promising
advances, mammalian reproductive cloning still has a low success rate and a high probability of
developmental abnormalities. Even if a cloned animal does survive gestation and is not
spontaneously aborted, there is a likely chance that it will not survive long after birth. Other
abnormalities are frequently seen, such as liver and brain defects, cardiovascular problems, and
potential premature aging. This can be seen in Dolly, who had premature arthritis despite only
being six years old. Many consider reproductive cloning

Proof of Alcohol Lab Report
Purpose The main purpose of this lab was to discover the proof of alcohol in the given unknown
solution. The proof of alcohol in a solution is double its volume percent. Therefore if a bottle of
grey goose vodka is 80 proof then its liquid solution has a volume of 40% alcohol. To find the
proof in this experiment many steps were taken to separate the ethanol from the solution. Since
ethanol is c in water it needs to be separated by adding diethyl ether and sodium acetate to cause a
chemical reaction. The chemical reaction results in separation of ethanol form water. Since the
ethanol and water is chemically separated the ethanol floats on top of the water, which allows them
to be easily extracted separately using a separatory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1.0 Introduction Beer is an immensely popular beverage, but it is one that is associated with a
particular country. German beer in fact is seen as the king of all beers. Around the world, Germany
s beer is one of the most respected varieties, in part due to the strict legislation that governs brewing
, but also because it seems that the German people take great pains to brew a good beer. It is
customary and part of their social structure. The majority of people in Germany socialize in pubs,

Brewing beer grew to be a respectable profession (2002). A student writing on this subject might
want to note that while it was a profession at the time, today s beers are generally made by large
companies. It has been proven that the production of good quality beer demanded certain
temperatures, but temperatures at the time prior to refrigeration were only available during the
winter ( German beer, 2002). The invention of refrigeration made it possible and did allow for
beer to be brewed year round (2002). Another important development was the discovery of
microorganisms and after that, the science of the fermentation process had finally been
established (2002). 4.0 Location: Where the Beer is Made With the increase in exports,
Germany developed world famous beer cities by the time the 1300s rolled around ; Bremen had
been the midpoint for beer exports to England, Holland and Scandinavia ( German beer, 2002) .
Hamburg had been the brewery of the Hanse but By 1500 there had been about 600 breweries there
alone (2002). The Hanse exported beer and some clients were as far away as India (2002).
Braunschweig and Einbeck is aligned with bock beer and they are also considered important beer
cities (2002).
Munich is an important city for beer and the locale where Spaten beer is made. Of course, German
beer is found in Germany, but due to its reputation, it is a major export.

The Secret Life Of Bees Literary Analysis
The fictional novels The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and The Chosen by Chaim
Potok are coming of age stories about young protagonists. The Secret Life of Bees depicts the
life of Lily Owens as she runs away from her abusive father, T. Ray, with her black caregiver,
Rosaleen. Lily is seeking a connection to her dead mother while establishing new relationships in
a new town called Tiburon, SC. Similarly, The Chosen portrays the journey of Danny Saunders as
he breaks away from the path paved for him while coping with the lack of a father son relationship.
Within both novels, The Secret Lifeof Bees and The Chosen , the lack of parental figures in both
Lily and Danny s lives causes both protagonists to seek others to fill in these positions as seen
when Lily relies on Rosaleen, the Black Madonna, and the Boatwright sisters and Danny seeks

she established strong relationships with August, May, and June Boatwright. These women took
Lily in and provide many things for her, but August Boatwright has supported Lily the most since
they first met. She helps to guide Lily as another motherly figure in her life. As well as supplying

The Emotional Functions Of Apology
In many cultures, it is not uncommon to show remorse for one s transgression with an apology.
People have been taught as young children to give an apology when they themselves have
transgressed. While there have been previous studies on apology done with adults, there are very
few empirical studies on children s perspective on apologies. However, previous studies that have
been done on children focused primarily on children s ability to associate apologies with outcomes
of forgiveness and the deservingness of punishment(Darby Schlenker, 1982). Smith, Chen, and
Harris conducted a study to explore children s understanding of the emotional implications of an
apology. The key functions of apology are the expression of remorse by a transgressor and the
alleviation of upset feelings in a victim (Smith, Chen, Harris, 2010). The main goal of the
researchers was to determine whether children understand the emotional functions of the apology.
Research conducted previously on children provides some insight on their understanding of
apology. A study conducted by Kochanska, Casey, and Fukumoto discovered that young children
wouldn t apologize for damaged objects unless they were led to believe they caused the damage
(1995). A recent study also found that preschool children would spontaneously apologize when in
situations involving physical harm (Schleinen, Ross, Ross, 2010). These studies show that children
at an early age know when to apologize once they have recognized they

Voyager 1 Research Paper
The Mission Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 set off in different months from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The original purpose was to get close up views on Jupiter and Saturn, Saturn s rings and the
bigger of 2 moons. The spacecrafts were built to last 5 years, but as this mission went on they sent
back data of objects in space and have reached our outermost planets of the solar system. The
mission was on to a whole different level. For this all to happen in the first place there had to be
extreme calculations of when the planets orbited and met each other so the voyager would see it.
This asstonishing occurrence happens about 1 out of 175 years.
History of the Mission Voyager 2 was launched a few months before Voyager 1 in 1977. Voyager
1 was launched faster than 2 so it over took Voyager 2. Voyager mission to Jupiter and Saturn
brought Voyager 1 to Jupiter on March 5, 1979, and Saturn on November 12, 1980, Shortly after
that Voyager 2 to Jupiter on July 9, 1979, and Saturn on August 25, 1981. Voyager 1 was meant
to go to Saturn s rings while voyager 2 was supposed to go by Saturn right to Uranus. In 1986
Voyager 2 finally reached Uranus. Voyager 1 was going outward viewing planetary space.

Challenges Of Learning English As A Second Language
There has always been a preconception that people who learn English as a second language are
somewhat less intelligent than people who learned it as their first language. Subconsciously some
people think that people who learn English as a second language don t have the ability to
understand the languagecompletely. Especially if they speak with an accent, a person tends to use
simple words to somewhat help that person understand. When in fact, people who learn English as
a second languageare just as intelligent or even more intelligent than people who learn English as
their first language. When a person who learned English as their first language or is just fluent in
English has an encounter with a person who has an accent or has... Show more content on

Tan would then have to go onto the phone herself, and explain her mother s thoughts in clear
English,to then find out the hospital had the results the whole time, and would be able to pick it up.
This shows one obstacle that many people have to face when learning English as a second
language: they often get taken advantage of because people seem to think that they don t
understand what s going on. As an immigrant, it is sometimes difficult to learn English even
after living in the U.S. for over fourteen years. It is more difficult for an adult to learn a new
language than for a child. I ve experienced this situation first hand. When moving to the U.S. my
brother and I were between two and four, while my parents were between thirty and forty. It was
easier for my brother and I to learn the English language because our brains weren t fully
developed, and it was simple for us to take in new things. On the other hand for my parents, it was
more difficult, even though combined they knew more than six languages (Italian, Twi/Fante
Portuguese, Arabic, Japanese, Hebrew, Hausa, Ga, and English).
Though both my parents learned some English in school, speaking it in the US was intimidating,
due to the fact that the way you pronounce words, can instantly label you as intelligent or
unintelligent. The English language is not necessarily the hardest language in the

Essay about Emergency Management During a Tornado
Introduction
A tornado is a naturally occurring phenomenon. The capability a tornado has for destruction can
create a major disaster event requiring a response from local, state and federal agencies. This
paper will examine the May 22, 2011 tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri. It will identify and
compare the response from local, state and federal perspective. This paper will also identify specific
emergency management functions that appear executed well and those that may not have been.
The Disaster
May 22, 2011 a supercell thunderstorm spawned the tornado that roared through Joplin at 5:45 PM
Central Daylight Time (CDT) (Masters, 2011). This mile wide, two hundred mile per hour winds

It also includes individuals, families and communities, who continue to be the nation s most
important assets as first responders during a disaster (FEMA, 2012). These principles allow for a
response the takes advantage of available resources responding to an event do so in an efficient
manner.
In preparation for a disaster, the community in Joplin embraced the Whole Community approach.
In doing so, the community responded in large numbers. While a positive, there were some
negative aspects to this level of response as well. On the positive side, the response of first
responders quickly met the needs of survivors. Medical personnel and emergency medical services
quickly established a field center for triage and treatment for those needing medical assistance after
the tornado. Because FEMA s Whole Community approach asks a community to look beyond what
is considered traditional disaster management models, the City of Joplin used social media to
communicate emergency information to the public and conduct outreach to support long term
recovery (FEMA, 2011). Because of the full commitment to the Whole Community approach,
responding to this disaster in a positive manner was possible. That is not to say there were no
negative aspects. In most cases, the Whole Community approach worked for Joplin. The exceptions
to this statement do exist. The largest negative from the response came from those coming to the
aid of those needing assistance in Joplin. The

Hoverboards In The Film Back To The Future
Hoverboards In the movie Back to the Future Part II, (1989), the main character, Marty McFly,
rides on a hoverboard in the year 2015. Now that the year that was considered the future in the
movie has come and gone, what progress has happened in the field of hoverboards? The answer
is quite a bit, although all of the modern versions fall short of the urban sports equipment featured
in the film. Here are the top five contenders for the title of hoverboard. Self balancing smart
scooter, the first product to be mass produced with the claim of being a hoverboard, is in fact not
much more than a Segway without the handle. This hoverboard does not actually hover but runs on
two wheels, utilizing a self balancing gyroscopic control system. A number of brand names are
competing for the lucrative market, despite having a bad reputation of starting on fire. ... Show more

Operating with an electromagnetic system this product actually hovers, but needs to be operated
on a conductive surface. Tony Hawk, the famous skateboarder endorses this hoverboard and is
said to have been directly involved in giving feedback to improve the second version. With its
limitations it is more likely that the Arx Pax hover engine will find other applications outside of
recreational use (Allain, 2015). Lexus, the car manufacturer has successfully created a hoverboard
to be featured in an advertisement, but does not intend to mass produce them. The board operates
on a system of superconductors cooled by liquid nitrogen, known as flux pinning. This process
requires a track of magnets and has no real world functionality (Allain, 2015). Omni, moves us
away from future replacements for skateboards and into the realm of flying platforms, Omni s
prototype is essentially a platform on a quadcopter drone. It flies, you stand on it and it looks fun
but, it would not be practical in an urban environment (Allain,

trade area based on its attractiveness relative to other trade areas. These models provide an
approximation of store trade area by putting the distribution of all locations (including
competitors) into a geographical context and evaluating each location s relative attractiveness.
Typically, a distance decay curve is used to model the spatial interaction of individual locations.
Often size of the store, or store sales if available, is used to drive the attractiveness parameter.
Gravity models are more sophisticated than simple radial approximations, but they still do not
account for logistical barriers and they are limited by the availability and accuracy of competitor
data. Moreover, gravity models basically are sophisticated algorithms, which may not be

The Use Of Calvinism By Robert Frost
Robert Frost incorporated Calvinism into his poetic work to emphasize his belief in this Protestant
theological system. Frost lived in a Calvinist society throughout his life, influencing him to believe
in such a system. The death of Frost s family members, drove him to live such a dark life, and
turning to find gratification through Calvinism. Frost made sure to demonstrate the struggle of the
characters in his poetry as if they were trying to escape something that was not possible, such as
Calvinism. Once a human joins this religion, the rest of their life is determined for them and they
are subjected to either hell or rarely heaven. Robert Frost made use of Calvinism throughout his

There are parts of his religion that he must stay true and values that mean something due to his
strong faith. Calvinism is shown strongly throughout this poem, for one example, in that one has a
life to live however, God is ultimately all powerful and in full control of every part of life.
The next example comes from the poem Acquainted With The Night, Frost starts off this poem
by stating I have been one acquainted with night (Frost 1). Looking further into this poem, one
can interpret that the speaker was once drawn to evil, and has gone through struggles in life,
however, he has outwalked this struggle in life. God has put him through this clearly for a
reason and proves that he truly does have all power. Going through tough times, Frost kept his
faith strong, despite believing he was damned. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet

hearing the sounds of a watchman or inner voice talking to him. The voice was not there to tell
him what to do just to remind him that He is always there watching over him. When the speaker
looks up, he sees the luminary clock, (Frost 12) or the moon, he states once again I have been

Uses And Uses Of Virtualization
Virtualization is being able to give a physical device the power, through the use of software, to
do more than that physical device was technically designed and able to do (Santana, 2014, p.
12). For example, a server can only run one operating system at a time. However, when a
hypervisor is used in a server, the hypervisor is a layer of software that acts like the server itself
so that many operating systems can be run from that one server. The hardware, in this case a
server, has been virtualized. The goal is to use all of the computer s resources all of the time, and
the only way to do that is to have enough things running that the resources are being used
consistently and efficiently. An analogy for this could be online classes. If each teacher only had
one student, the teacher s resources of time and expertise would not be utilized efficiently because
that one student will not need help all day, every day. If the teacher is assigned to fifteen students,
the students can still get help when needed from the teacher, and they would not even be aware
that they are not alone in the class. Because it is an online class, the teacher does not need any
more physical resources to teach an entire class than was needed for one student. The students are
receiving the benefits of being taught by that teacher without needing to be with him or her
physically. 2. Please define, in your own words, what a data center is and what virtualization means

The Bullied and the Bully
In today s simplistic world, one may believe that violence is the only way to solve our problems.
If people continue to keep this idea of violence in their heads, our societal problems of harassment
and bullying are not going to improve. Bullying has been in this world for centuries on end and
for the same reason: to get a sense of power or authority. Kids in today s schools feel superior to
others by calling others belittling names and harassing them to utter nothingness. Men feel the need

Contemporary Issues Of The Hotel Industry Essay
CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN THE HOTEL INDUSTRY Critique Article 2 Submitted By:
Tariq Tanveer Mudh Student ID 1000020230 Assumption 1 The performance of new industry
entrants can be effected by their pre entry experience. Evidence The author has provided the
evidence in the form of Ganco and Agarwal, 2009 to support this assumption. It is essential for
every new firm to have particular experience in specific field which help them to survive and
compete with other rivalry in the market. Challenge I agree with above mentioned assertion by
the author. Prior knowledge and experience of any specific field is very important to determine
the performance of any organization. New entrants who carry prior experience having a greater
chance to survive in the market. Also, it helps to differentiate one from another and help to
establish in the market. It also provides ability to face the market situation in the terms of
technological and production change (Shane, 2013). Assumption 2 Potential consumers trust on an
organisation s brand as an indicator of its product quality. Evidence To support this assertion
author has given the evidence of Erdem and Swait, 2006. Challenge I agree with the author as
every consumer have their own perception about brand because it give a feel to the customers
about the quality it provide in the term of the services and products. Now a days, customers are
very quality conscious and they want value to their money. So the logos and

The Social Consequences Of Heteronormativity
As children, we are indoctrinated into the social construct of heteronormativity. Based on our
biological sex at birth, we are given blue or pink clothes, play princesses or superheroes, and are
told either, cross your legs and sit like a lady or act like a man and stop crying . As adults, we
watch movies and TV shows where the husband comes home from a long day at work to greet his
wife who has just finished making dinner. Heteronormativityrefers to those norms related to gender
and sexuality which keep in place patriarchy and compulsory heterosexuality as well as other
systems and ideologies related to power (Sharma 2009). Gay, lesbian, queer, homosexual, agender,
androgynous, bigender, bisexual, butch, femme, dyke, stud, lipstick lesbian, gender fluid; There
are a seemingly endless terministic screens used to label women who love women, but they all
come down to one meaning, we aren t normal. Even if any given terminology is a reflection of
reality, by its very nature as a terminology it is a selection of reality; and to this extent it must also
function as a deflection of reality (Burke 1968). Viewing lesbians through heteronormative gender
roles oversimplifies complex identities into false dichotomies.

The Evil of 1889
I could hear the water running from the shower when I came in the front door. That s strange, I
said. I dropped my keys and my yellow Star of David on top of the fridge and headed up the
stairs. The bathroom door was ajar a few inches and water was streaming out. As my fingers
reached out to push the door open the small hairs on my back stood to attention. It was too late;
the masculine hand was already on me. I endeavored to pull the hand away from my blanch face,
but I had already sank into his arms. It was cold. I woke up trying to free myself from the metal
brace. I screamed for help merely hearing an echo from the damp air. I searched in the darkness
for a way out, when all of a sudden a flash of light appeared. I tried to find the source when a
familiar voice called out, Are you comfortable, Leah? Would you like something to eat? Who are
you? What do you want from me? What an incorrect reply. Let me rephrase that. I didn t kidnap
you but I just borrowed you. In shock I said, Borrow me! You can t borrow a human. Are you a
lunatic? Hahaha, young lady you should never call a noble man a lunatic. You should know of the
consequences. The light shut and a sound that resembled electricity was heard nearby. This time I
listened very closely. The sound kept getting louder and closer. Ahhhhhhhhh! My body was
twitching, my hair smelled burnt. I was in an electric chair. The light turned on again. Trying to lift
my head towards the light, the voice came back.

Essay about An Ethical Theory Applied to Business...
The object of this essay is to establish whether there is an ethical theory that can be successfully
applied to business organizations. In order to answer this question, it is necessary first to define the
major ethical theories, which are utilitarianism, deontology and virtue ethics, before determining
whether there are any other options. After that, the ethical needs, problems and limitations of work
organizations will have to be examined so that the different theories can be evaluated in this
context. It will also be important to draw a distinction between the terms accurate and useful as
these actually result in two different questions the answer to which need not necessarily be the
same. Another essential part of this discussion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to this it has the property of universalisality in that the right action will be right for
everyone. However, as a pragmatic and functional system of moral analysis, Utilitarianism has a
number of difficulties. One of the major problems is the fact that it is extremely difficult to
quantify happiness, and if it is not possible to decide which of several available actions produces
the most happiness, it follows that it is not possible to decide which action is the right one. Also
a particular action generating a high degree of happiness may have unforeseen consequences
that have the opposite effect. Can it be morally right to have a completely innocent and well
person killed if two seriously ill people could be saved by an organ transplantation? Is an action
always and incontrovertibly right because it gives greatest happiness to the greatest number of
people? Brady(1999) refutes this: the majority vote is not an ethic; it is a social choice technique.
Deontology as promoted by Kant on the other hand denies that the right action is the one that
produces the best consequences. It is based on a set of moral rules, and the right action is
supposed to be the one that conforms with these rules, whereas certain other types of action are
morally forbidden. Deontology seems to appeal to common sense as duties include special
obligations to family and

Copyright law is a part of not only music but many other products for example the software that you

Here is a few facts that may give you a better understanding of copyright as you read... Copyright
Law Came into existence as a spur from a concept from the statute of Anne 1707 . Just like any
other law there are a number of contributing acts and statutes that come into play in order to enforce
the Law(s) involved. Different parties involved in the copyright of a product may hold rights to the

Essay on Machiavelli’s The Prince and the Modern Executive
The Prince and the Modern Executive
Few question The Prince s place in the canon of western literature. That it marks a turning point in
our collective history, the origin of the study of politics as a science (Pollock 43), is alone enough
to warrant its classification as a Great Book. Its author, Niccolo Machiavelli, a contemporary of
Copernicus, is generally accepted as an early contributor to the scientific revolution, because he
looked at power and the nature of sovereignty through the eyes of a scientist, focused completely on
the goal without regard for religion and morals and ethics. Machiavelli taught that the way princes
actually do govern often differs substantially from than the way they ought to govern, according to

A corporation has its king and its barons, its courtiers and ambassadors, its loyalists and its
dissident elements, its allies and its enemies. What is important to our application of his principles
of statecraft to the business world is not the superficial differences but the underlying unity. Modern
corporations that are successful and well managed do not necessarily operate in harmony with the
personal morality of their employees and for the general good of their communities. Similarly, firms
which pollute the environment or ask their employees to lie are not always forced into bankruptcy.
The individualism and secularism that characterized the Italian Renaissance are dominant themes in
Machiavelli s thinking. His use of historical examples throughout The Prince demonstrates an
extensive knowledge of Greek and Roman history and is consistent with the new found love for
antiquity of the Renaissance. Machiavelli was, in every sense of the word, a true renaissance man.
He appears to be remarkably well educated, although limited finances probably prevented him from
studying at a major university. As a result, the effect of humanist teachings, prevalent at most of the
institutions of higher learning at the time, on Machiavelli was limited. Machiavelli s knowledge of
specific details of politics is primarily the culmination of a life long career as a bureaucrat and
diplomat.

Legalizing Steroids Is Dangerous
Legalizing steroids is dangerous because they are not controllable. Steroids are becoming
popular, but no one is stopping to take a look at all the facts about the use of them. Remy an avid
steroid user who regrets using steroids suggests, There is no controlled way to use steroids
(Campbell 3). Everyone s bodies react different to what steroids can do. Some more dangerous than
others. Controlling steroiduse is impossible because everyone uses different amounts and even a
little can be dangerous. Harrison Pope a professor of psychiatry at Harvard s McLean Hospital
says, The preliminary data on steroids suggest that long term use damages the muscle of the heart,
significantly increasing the risk of an attack (Butterworth 2). A continued use of steroids would do
damage not only on the heart but the whole body as well. Heart damage is very likely while using
steroids. Views of the opposition suggest that they are not worried about the un controlling factors.
Tim Cowlishaw a sports writer for the Pittsburgh Post Gazettestates, I think if we made everything
legal, we would learn eventually which drugs and creams, and heaven forbid, antler sprays actually
have benefits and what their risks are (Cowlishaw 1). If society made steroids legal, controlling
amounts would not be imaginable. Anyone could get their hands on it, which could lead to over
use and endangerment of human health.
Legalizing steroids represents cheating in all sports across the nation. There will always

Chapter 16 Externalities
Consumers and producers are internal to a transaction. Consumers receive a benefit from the goods
they purchase, while producers pay the costs of production. An externality (sometimes called a
spillover) is a cost or benefit that goes to someone external to a transaction. Pollution is a negative
(cost) externality. Education and research create a positive externality. Externalities can result from
consumption or production.
2
An Example:
Suppose that the costs of raising livestock are mostly borne by the rancher, but there is a spillover
cost. Streams nearby get polluted, and this affects people (and other species) who use the stream

sure he had a good education by sending him to a prestigious Latin school when he was 9 years
old. However, when Erasmus s parents died, he was sent to live with guardians who strongly
believed that he should become a Monk. During this time, Erasmus gained a personal
relationship with God but was opposed to the strict rules and teachings of the school. Poverty
eventually forced Erasmus into a monastery in 1492, where he was ordained a Catholic priest.
He then became the secretary for Henry de Bergen, the bishop of Chambray, which allowed him
to travel across Europe for the next ten years to study Latin and literature. These studies led to
his discovery of Renaissance humanism. In the early 1500s, not long after his travels, Erasmus
was invited to lecture in theology at the University of Cambridge and it was during this time that
Erasmus began to publish literature showing his some of his new ideas and criticisms of society
and the church. These ideas started to become well known after he published one of his early
works, Praise of Folly. His ideas stood out from others of the time and sparked debate all over
Europe. These ideas are strikingly similar to those made famous by Martin Luther, however, as

The Role Of Rape In Laurie Halse Anderson s Speak
In Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson utilizes mirrors to provide the readers with insight into the mind
of the protagonist, Melinda Sordino, an isolated and lonely high school freshmen with the weight
of what happened to her at a party over the summer break. Prior to the party, Melinda was not
extremely popular, but she had a core group of friends. Her assault changed all of that. According
to a report in the late 1990 s, the number of incidents of date rapehas slowly declined. In the 1990s,
the time period for Anderson s novel, 1.1 million women reported intimate violence in 1993 as
compared with 900,000 female victims in 1998 (Constantakis 262). Although the incident of rape is
not uncommon and fortunately declining, it is still a taboo... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Melinda notices that while in the car, Heather s mom is watching her and she feels judged. She
then tries to hide herself from Heather s mom, but continues to look at her own reflection and
comes to the conclusion that The scabs on [her] lips are especially gross in that little rectangle
mirror proving that she is slowly deteriorating inside and out following her rape (Anderson 82).
Throughout the novel, she constantly bites her lips as a nervous tick and they are always bloody
and scabbed. She is aware of this and how disgusting they look but cannot stop, therefore it
contributes to self destruction of her body along with her mind. In another section of the book
Melinda is scrutinizing the image that stares back at her in the mirror and she push[es] her ragged
mouth against the mirror. A thousand bleeding crusted lips push back (125). Her lips are becoming
irritated along with her mind. The thoughts she has about herself are twisted and always negative.
She is destroying herself mentally which ultimately results in the adaptation of low self esteem.
Hart writes that, she has little protection between her outer and inner self proving that her thoughts
are uncontrolled and lead to impulse habits that physically destroy her (Hart 264). Melinda is

The Daunting Task of Buying a Computer
Buying a computer can be a daunting task fraught with many choices, depending on your needs.
The process can be simplified by determining what your primary use for the computer will be and
picking specific components geared towards your use. The main components that one must select
from is the CPU, Video Card, Hard Drive, and Memory or RAM as it s known in the Tech world.
The CPU is an acronym for the Central Processing Unit. The CPU is the brains of the computer,
where all the calculations take place. The faster the CPU, the faster your computer will run,
calculating intensive tasks. A good place to start researching for CPU s is on the internet at http:
//www.cpubenchmark.net/. One glance at the website will show the multitude of CPU s
available. In fact, this website ranks over 1,200 processors against each other based on based on
8 different tests (PassMark Software), and lists them in a chart based on how they do on all the
tests combined. When deciding on the CPU, one must decide if they want the traditional Intel
chip, whose chips have been integrated into IBM compatible machines since the start of the
personal computing era, or if the want an AMD chip, which is a younger company that makes a
comparable product at a cheaper price. One must also look at the overall speed of the CPU, as this
determines how fast it operates. A huge difference in the CPU is if it is a Single Core, Dual Core,
or a Quad Core. Simply put, a Dual Core processor, can process

Philosophy And Principles Of Palliative Care
Discuss the philosophy and principles of palliative care
Palliative care
Palliative care is an approach that aims to improve the quality of life for a person and their family,
facing the problems associated with a life threatening illness. It is a multidisciplinary approach that
focuses on providing patients with relief from pain and other physical symptoms. It ensures the
client s comfort and dignity during the last days, weeks or months of their life and also involves
their psychological, spiritual and social needs.
End of life care
End of life care is a continuation of palliative care and is concerned with the final days or weeks of
life also known as the terminal phase. The aim is to help the person live as well as possible and to

They are responses to loss which most people will have but as grief is an individual experience,
not everyone will go through them all, or in the set order.
The carer has to respect the wishes of the dying person and their family, regarding conversations
about their condition that they do not want openly discussed or overheard. Carers must also respect
the person s wishes about who they want to be contacted and with whom they wish their
information to be shared.
This should be recorded and most importantly shared with all those who are caring for the
person. Some of those close to the dying person such as young children or elderly people may
also need physical or emotional support which will require consideration by the care team. The
religious and spiritual needs of the dying person, their family and friends will all have to be
considered and care staff will need to arrange the involvement of any religious leader if requested.
After death the care will concern the wellbeing of the bereaved family, carers and maybe other
service users who have got to know the deceased well.

The Symbiotic Relationship Of The Hypothalamus Interaction...
As the control center of the endocrine system, the hypothalamus interacts with the body in a unique
way. It has a symbiotic relationship with the pituitary gland, which stimulates the release of
hormones to different parts of the body. Located inferior to the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland
lies within a cavity of the sphenoid bone known as the sella turcica. The hypothalamus
communicates with the pituitary glandthrough two separate lobes: one leading to the anterior
pituitary and another leading to the posterior pituitary. The connection of these two lobes through
the infundibulum forms the bridge between the nervous and endocrine systems. The lobe that
connects the hypothalamus to the anterior pituitary is called the hypophyseal portal

Difference Between Medieval Art And Renaissance Art
Many things changed from Medieval Times to the Renaissance. The catholic church saw it s reign
secede and individualism increase in the minds of the people of the time. Because of this, people
in the Renaissance now looked at themselves in a way that was never seen before. Slowly but
surely, the whole world changed. The rise in individualism and humanismsignified a change in the
way people thought about their purpose in life. In the Medieval Times, people believed that they
were at the mercy of God, and they had no control over their own bodies or lives. From the change
in Medieval Times to the Renaissance, whole fields were changed, especially art and the medical
field, because of the rise of the individual and that way of life. Art in the Medieval Times was
dreary and bland. Many works of art were solely about God or holy figures. The most obvious
change from the Renaissance to Medieval Times was the arts, according to Document A and
also that One begins to know the names of the artists ... feel stronger emotions in the subjects .
This shows that Renaissance art not only changed in style, in changed in how it made the
viewer feel when seeing the art. Similarly, in Document A, Renaissance art is described as new
artistic styles would echo the broader movements and interests of the new age.... . As compared
to Medieval Times, the style of art became something similar to the time that people could relate
to. In the Medieval Times, art was just meant to extol God s many feats. People who viewed the
painting were supposed to put that style of art on a pedestal. Medieval art was supposed to be
worshipped, not so much understood. The individual in the Medieval Times was supposed to take
away from the painting that the only thing that mattered in their life was the Roman Catholic
church and God already had a plan for their lives. But in comparison, Renaissance art was supposed
to empower and help people of the time to understand themselves and the fact that they can change
their own lives. Anatomy of the Medieval Times was incredibly different from anatomy of the
Renaissance. According to the diagram in Document D, anatomy was controlled by the zodiac,
twelve star position that each controlled a different part

Effects Of Classical Conditioning In A Bite Of China
Introduction
The psychology theory seems to be professional, and it is hard to use in daily lives in many
common people s views. However, some principles are used widely in TV shows or movies. For
example, classical conditioning can make people to perform a specific behavior after several times
training . In the essay, the author will introduce a TV show called A Bite of China and discuss how
the TV show use classical conditioning.
Background information
Classical Conditioning
Classical Conditioning was founded by a Russian physiologist, Ivan P. Pavlov, in the early 1900s.
At first, He assumed that animals have automatic connections called unconditioned reflexes, which
is a reflection between a fixed stimulus and response such as the food and secreting digestive juices.
He speculated that the stimulus can be transferred from one to another. After that, Pavlov did the
experiments and get the conclusion. In the process, he gave a dog food and the dog salivated. The
connection between the food and the salivation was automatic requiring no training. The food was
called unconditioned stimulus (UCS) and the salivation was called unconditioned response (UCR).
The UCS is an event that automatically elicits an UCR. In other words, the UCR is the action that
the UCS elicits. Next, Pavlov introduced a new stimulus, such as a metronome. At the beginning,
the dogs heard the metronome but did not salivate. In this period, the metronome was a neutral
stimulus (NS) about salivation. After

Literary Elements In The Shawl By Cynthia Ozick
The Shawl s Literary Elements:
Analysis of the short story s theme, imagery, and symbols In The Shawl , Cynthia Ozick uses
theme, imagery, and symbols to present her short story s setting. As Ozick presents the plot, she
emphasizes on these three literary elements (theme, imagery, and symbolism) to exaggerate and
organize her short story. The Shawl is about a mother named Rosa, Magda (her blue eyed blonde
hair infant baby), and her older daughter Stella who are forced to march in harsh conditions at a
concentration camp. The characters are weak and struggling to survive. Cynthia Ozick describes the
struggle by stating their body parts are like tumors on sticks . Rosa is forced to carry her infant
baby in a shawl, comparing it to a walking cradle . The shawl that Magda is wrapped in offers her
comfort by proving her with food and entertainment (keeping her calm and quiet). The shawl is
also hiding Magda from the guards, until Stella takes Magda s shawl for herself for warmth.
Magda then begins to scream and yell out for the first time since the characters have been in the
concentration camp. Rosa tries her best to ease her baby by chasing after the shawl, but she is not
fast enough. This results to the guard taking Magda and throwing her onto an ... Show more content

In the beginning of the short story, Ozick explained Magda as someone who is already a floating
angel ; this is a symbol for Magda s upcoming death 2). The symbols Ozick uses are also used to
envision the thoughts and feelings regarding life, death, and survival. There are many objects the
author use to help the reader visualize the plot. As described in the previous paragraph, Ozick
wrote indirectly to provide readers with a more opinionated image; the same goes for her use of
symbolism. She provides symbols to explain beyond what is actually being described. Ozick uses
this writing process to enhance the short

Plea Bargains Essay
A plea bargain ( offer ) is an agreement in a criminal case whereby the prosecuting agency may
offer the defendant the opportunity to plead guilty, usually to a lesser charge or to the original
criminal charge with a proposal of a lighter than the maximum sentence. This opportunity allows
defendants to avoid the risk of a conviction at trial on a more serious charge. This also allows all
involved parties to keep the court s calendars light without exhausting resources of a court,
potential public defenders, and prosecutors who are all salaried for by the expense of tax payers.
If every case in the criminal justice system went to trial, the courts would be so overloaded that
they would effectively be shut down. An offer can occur at any... Show more content on

Prosecutors may only recommend to the court the acceptance of a plea arrangement. The court
will usually take proofs to ensure that the above three components are satisfied and will then
generally accept the recommendation of the prosecution. The court uses the plea bargaining
process as a way to alleviate the need to schedule and hold a trial on an already congested court
calendar. Judges are also aware of jail/prison overcrowding and may be receptive to the
processing out of offenders who are not likely to do much jail time anyway. For prosecutors, a
lightened caseload is equally attractive. Most importantly, an offer assures a conviction, even if it
is for a lesser charge or crime. This ensures that the prosecuting agency keeps its statistics looking
good, and keeps the confidence alive inside the community. No matter how strong the evidence
may be, no case is a predetermined conclusion. Prosecutors are often at risk of waging a long and
expensive trial with a chance of losing, similar to that of the O.J Simpson murder trial. Prosecutors
may use plea bargaining as means to advance their case against a co defendant. They may accept a
plea bargain arrangement from one defendant in return for damaging testimony against another.
This way, they are assured of at least one conviction even if it s a lesser charge with the enhanced
chances of captivating a conviction against the second defendant. A

The Age Of The Reformation
The age of the Reformation can be described as the period of bloodshed in the name of religion,
search for the truth, and the birth of the denominational church. According to Shelley (2008)
reformation brought about the end of papal leadership of western Christendom, while at the same
time gave birth to Protestantism and its four traditions, which include Lutheran, Reformed,
Anabaptist, and Anglican beliefs (Shelley, 2008). It is a period of enlightenment, in which
Christians begin to interpret the Bible themselves and realize that God is attainable without the
need of papacy bringing about queries of papal intentions. To gain further understanding of humility

The forgoing quote appears to suggest that not only Christ sacrifice is an example of humility to
His people, but also it is through the prayer to and faith in Christ one can attain humility.
Similarly, in his works on the exposition of the Christian life named, A Treatise on Good Works,
Luther further accentuates prayer as an approach for humility attainment,
Nay, you believe that God shall hear most of all when you are in the greatest need and fear. Why,
then, are you so foolish here, where there is immeasurable greater need and eternal hurt, and do not
want to ask for faith, hope, love, humility, obedience, chastity, gentleness, peace, righteousness,
unless you are already free of all your unbelief, doubt, pride, disobedience, unchastity, anger,
covetousness and unrighteousness. Although the more you find yourself lacking in these things,
the more and more diligently you ought to pray or cry (p. 40).
Moreover, these quotes discredit the requirement of confection to the priests for the purpose of
forgiveness and salvation. In his, Disputation of Doctor Martin Luther on the Power and Efficacy of
Indulgences, also know as the

In Cold Blood Environment
The circumstances, environment, and events during an individual s life may have major effects on
that individual s personality traits and mindset. In many cases, the environmental factors of a
convicted criminal s life have led to the development of criminal minds and the eventual execution
of extremely serious felonies. Truman Capoteillustrates how a convict s background can influence a
criminal mind in his novel, In Cold Blood. In this nonfiction novel, Capote depicts how the
environment and events during the lives of infamous murderers Dick Hickock and Perry Smith
have led them to commit the crimeof killing Herbert Clutter and his family. Although very few

when a boy named Will was five years old, his mother tried to kill him with a butcher knife. . .For
the next several years Will lived with his older brother, until he committed suicide by shooting

My Life Of The Sixth Grade
In the beginning of the sixth grade, I lived in the city of Westlake, Ohio, as I had for just over
two years, and attended Parkside Middle School. As I had for just over two years, I felt very
content and happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news
that we would be moving away to the city of Canfield. My mother soothed my slight worry with
the knowledge that Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had
lived for all the time before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She
pointed out that I was content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area
than before. Thus, I meekly accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That
expectation was a miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical
and emotional health, and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living
in Canfield brought onto me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually
to precipitate the other two effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to
rather prevalent amounts of bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School.
Other students would often mock me for my oddities. The brunt of their taunts focussed on the
combination of two thingsВ my rather great amounts of outspokenness combined with my
uninterest in forging friendships or other common pursuits.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the

acceptable to modify or bend the rules of society. Society is civilized, and to be civilized there
must be rules, regulations and policies that prevent. Individuality leads to a mess of chaos. To
prevent disorder, institutions in society keep these rules strongly enforced. Man creates these

  • 4. What Are The Six Principles Of Persuasion This assignment is about the six principles of persuasion. A situation will also be described, either real or fiction, where I have used these principles. The six principles of persuasion are reciprocity , scarcity , authority , commitment and consistency , consensus , and liking (McLean, S., 2010). Reciprocity is the obligation/duty that people feel to give back to others who gave them something. The things which are given can be anything. For example, politicians, when they are campaigning before an election, can help people by giving them food, money, things, etc, so that they can return the favor by voting for them. Businesses also help the community so that they can persuade the people to return the favor by doing business with them. Scarcity is the limitation in the amount of resources. I had an YXTEL phone I have been using for about two years and I decided to sell it after I bought a smart phone. So, one of my friends, came looking for a second hand phone and I persuaded him to buy which he did afterwards. I believed I did use all the six principles of persuasion. I used liking in the sense that I always liked him and he was my friend. So, he likes me back that s why he came to me and bought it. I used scarcity in the sense that I told him that if he does get it, it won t be there the following day. I used authority in the sense that I was confident in the wellness of the phone and I know a lot about phones. The other principle I have used is reciprocity, in that I used to do favors for him like changing the phone settings in the past. Consensus was also used in that I told him that people who buy from me never come back to complain that I sold them a damaged product/phone. I also used commitment and consistency in that I gave him the phone before paying to see if it works ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The middle of the documentary reflects the different values and paths the characters begin to make for themselves. Steve James begins using other cinematic techniques like a point of view shot in order to show the relationship between Arthur s strained relationship with his father. There is a scene where Arthur watches his dad buy drugs near the basketball court. The point of shot helped appeal to ethos, because the viewers were able to relate to Arthur s sadness and loneliness more easily. James uses sad non diegetic music to show how bad Arthur s home life has gotten. The music plays when Arthur s mom talks about losing her job, which signifies how traumatic this event is. Steve James uses a primary footage technique to show how Arthur has lost focus in school. The footage shows Arthur goofing off in class with his troubled friend. The technique helps show how Arthur s life is slowly falling apart, and how his values and motivation have shifted and not for the better. The amphora storage jar is made out of terracotta and it is eleven inches in height. Then it was painted on with black and brown paint. This jars colors are used to create contrast, the lines are used to unify it, the shapes on the object are the most important part of the image and patterns are used on the jar to help fill the space on the jar. Therefore colors are used to create contrast. There are three different colors on the jar: the natural colorof the terracotta, the brown paintand the black paint. Since terracotta is a neutral color it provides an excellent background for the painting. Black is a very dark color and it makes the people and the designs stick out. People use black paint when they want their design to be important. Brown is a neutral color and it is used to show the not so prominent part of the image. The little bit of brown paint shows the ground the people are standing on. It also unifies the other places where it appears. Looking at the top there is a pattern painted with both the black and brown paint to show contrast. After contrast is seen unity is also seen with lines. • 14. The Morality Of Genetically Modified Animals For The... There are two sides to the morality of genetically modifying animals for the purpose of pharming and xenotransplantation: the potential benefits and the reality. Although genetic modification of mammals carries promises of being able to use said modified mammals as a source of materials used in pharmaceuticals or creating mammalian species with organs that can be transplanted in humans, the reality is that reproductive cloningin mammals has a low success rate. Because of the high demand for organs including hearts, livers, and kidneys, scientists have since turned to genetically modifying mammals such as pigs as a source of potential organs for transplant. This has involved disruption of genes in pigs that cause tissue rejection in humans or knocking out genes that allow transmission of retroviruses. Similarly, some sheep have been genetically modified to secrete through their milk, the humanfactor IX needed by hemophiliacs. Despite these promising advances, mammalian reproductive cloning still has a low success rate and a high probability of developmental abnormalities. Even if a cloned animal does survive gestation and is not spontaneously aborted, there is a likely chance that it will not survive long after birth. Other abnormalities are frequently seen, such as liver and brain defects, cardiovascular problems, and potential premature aging. This can be seen in Dolly, who had premature arthritis despite only being six years old. Many consider reproductive cloning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The proof of alcohol in a solution is double its volume percent. Therefore if a bottle of grey goose vodka is 80 proof then its liquid solution has a volume of 40% alcohol. To find the proof in this experiment many steps were taken to separate the ethanol from the solution. Since ethanol is c in water it needs to be separated by adding diethyl ether and sodium acetate to cause a chemical reaction. The chemical reaction results in separation of ethanol form water. German beer in fact is seen as the king of all beers. Around the world, Germany s beer is one of the most respected varieties, in part due to the strict legislation that governs brewing , but also because it seems that the German people take great pains to brew a good beer. Brewing beer grew to be a respectable profession (2002). A student writing on this subject might want to note that while it was a profession at the time, today s beers are generally made by large companies. It has been proven that the production of good quality beer demanded certain temperatures, but temperatures at the time prior to refrigeration were only available during the winter ( German beer, 2002). The invention of refrigeration made it possible and did allow for beer to be brewed year round (2002). Another important development was the discovery of microorganisms and after that, the science of the fermentation process had finally been established (2002). 4.0 Location: Where the Beer is Made With the increase in exports, Germany developed world famous beer cities by the time the 1300s rolled around ; Bremen had been the midpoint for beer exports to England, Holland and Scandinavia ( German beer, 2002) . • 18. The Emotional Functions Of Apology In many cultures, it is not uncommon to show remorse for one s transgression with an apology. People have been taught as young children to give an apology when they themselves have transgressed. While there have been previous studies on apology done with adults, there are very few empirical studies on children s perspective on apologies. However, previous studies that have been done on children focused primarily on children s ability to associate apologies with outcomes of forgiveness and the deservingness of punishment(Darby Schlenker, 1982). Smith, Chen, and Harris conducted a study to explore children s understanding of the emotional implications of an apology. The key functions of apology are the expression of remorse by a transgressor and the alleviation of upset feelings in a victim (Smith, Chen, Harris, 2010). The main goal of the researchers was to determine whether children understand the emotional functions of the apology. Research conducted previously on children provides some insight on their understanding of apology. A study conducted by Kochanska, Casey, and Fukumoto discovered that young children wouldn t apologize for damaged objects unless they were led to believe they caused the damage (1995). A recent study also found that preschool children would spontaneously apologize when in situations involving physical harm (Schleinen, Ross, Ross, 2010). These studies show that children at an early age know when to apologize once they have recognized they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Uses And Uses Of Virtualization Virtualization is being able to give a physical device the power, through the use of software, to do more than that physical device was technically designed and able to do (Santana, 2014, p. 12). For example, a server can only run one operating system at a time. However, when a hypervisor is used in a server, the hypervisor is a layer of software that acts like the server itself so that many operating systems can be run from that one server. The hardware, in this case a server, has been virtualized. The goal is to use all of the computer s resources all of the time, and the only way to do that is to have enough things running that the resources are being used consistently and efficiently. An analogy for this could be online classes. If each teacher only had one student, the teacher s resources of time and expertise would not be utilized efficiently because that one student will not need help all day, every day. If the teacher is assigned to fifteen students, the students can still get help when needed from the teacher, and they would not even be aware that they are not alone in the class. Because it is an online class, the teacher does not need any more physical resources to teach an entire class than was needed for one student. The students are receiving the benefits of being taught by that teacher without needing to be with him or her physically. 2. • 31. The Evil of 1889 I could hear the water running from the shower when I came in the front door. That s strange, I said. I dropped my keys and my yellow Star of David on top of the fridge and headed up the stairs. The bathroom door was ajar a few inches and water was streaming out. As my fingers reached out to push the door open the small hairs on my back stood to attention. It was too late; the masculine hand was already on me. I endeavored to pull the hand away from my blanch face, but I had already sank into his arms. It was cold. I woke up trying to free myself from the metal brace. I screamed for help merely hearing an echo from the damp air. I searched in the darkness for a way out, when all of a sudden a flash of light appeared. I tried to find the source when a familiar voice called out, Are you comfortable, Leah? Would you like something to eat? Who are you? What do you want from me? What an incorrect reply. Let me rephrase that. I didn t kidnap you but I just borrowed you. In shock I said, Borrow me! You can t borrow a human. Are you a lunatic? Hahaha, young lady you should never call a noble man a lunatic. You should know of the consequences. The light shut and a sound that resembled electricity was heard nearby. This time I listened very closely. The sound kept getting louder and closer. Ahhhhhhhhh! My body was twitching, my hair smelled burnt. I was in an electric chair. The light turned on again. • 33. Essay about An Ethical Theory Applied to Business... The object of this essay is to establish whether there is an ethical theory that can be successfully applied to business organizations. In order to answer this question, it is necessary first to define the major ethical theories, which are utilitarianism, deontology and virtue ethics, before determining whether there are any other options. After that, the ethical needs, problems and limitations of work organizations will have to be examined so that the different theories can be evaluated in this context. It will also be important to draw a distinction between the terms accurate and useful as these actually result in two different questions the answer to which need not necessarily be the same. Another essential part of this discussion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to this it has the property of universalisality in that the right action will be right for everyone. However, as a pragmatic and functional system of moral analysis, Utilitarianism has a number of difficulties. One of the major problems is the fact that it is extremely difficult to quantify happiness, and if it is not possible to decide which of several available actions produces the most happiness, it follows that it is not possible to decide which action is the right one. Also a particular action generating a high degree of happiness may have unforeseen consequences that have the opposite effect. Can it be morally right to have a completely innocent and well person killed if two seriously ill people could be saved by an organ transplantation? Is an action always and incontrovertibly right because it gives greatest happiness to the greatest number of people? Brady(1999) refutes this: the majority vote is not an ethic; it is a social choice technique. Deontology as promoted by Kant on the other hand denies that the right action is the one that produces the best consequences. It is based on a set of moral rules, and the right action is supposed to be the one that conforms with these rules, whereas certain other types of action are morally forbidden. That it marks a turning point in our collective history, the origin of the study of politics as a science (Pollock 43), is alone enough to warrant its classification as a Great Book. Its author, Niccolo Machiavelli, a contemporary of Copernicus, is generally accepted as an early contributor to the scientific revolution, because he looked at power and the nature of sovereignty through the eyes of a scientist, focused completely on the goal without regard for religion and morals and ethics. A corporation has its king and its barons, its courtiers and ambassadors, its loyalists and its dissident elements, its allies and its enemies. What is important to our application of his principles of statecraft to the business world is not the superficial differences but the underlying unity. Modern corporations that are successful and well managed do not necessarily operate in harmony with the personal morality of their employees and for the general good of their communities. Similarly, firms which pollute the environment or ask their employees to lie are not always forced into bankruptcy. The individualism and secularism that characterized the Italian Renaissance are dominant themes in Machiavelli s thinking. His use of historical examples throughout The Prince demonstrates an extensive knowledge of Greek and Roman history and is consistent with the new found love for antiquity of the Renaissance. Machiavelli was, in every sense of the word, a true renaissance man. He appears to be remarkably well educated, although limited finances probably prevented him from studying at a major university. As a result, the effect of humanist teachings, prevalent at most of the institutions of higher learning at the time, on Machiavelli was limited. He is also believed to have been born with a different name, and his birthday is unknown because he was born out of wedlock. Despite this, his father made sure he had a good education by sending him to a prestigious Latin school when he was 9 years old. However, when Erasmus s parents died, he was sent to live with guardians who strongly believed that he should become a Monk. During this time, Erasmus gained a personal relationship with God but was opposed to the strict rules and teachings of the school. Poverty eventually forced Erasmus into a monastery in 1492, where he was ordained a Catholic priest. He then became the secretary for Henry de Bergen, the bishop of Chambray, which allowed him to travel across Europe for the next ten years to study Latin and literature. These studies led to his discovery of Renaissance humanism. In the early 1500s, not long after his travels, Erasmus was invited to lecture in theology at the University of Cambridge and it was during this time that Erasmus began to publish literature showing his some of his new ideas and criticisms of society and the church. These ideas started to become well known after he published one of his early works, Praise of Folly. His ideas stood out from others of the time and sparked debate all over Europe. However, some principles are used widely in TV shows or movies. For example, classical conditioning can make people to perform a specific behavior after several times training . In the essay, the author will introduce a TV show called A Bite of China and discuss how the TV show use classical conditioning. Background information Classical Conditioning Classical Conditioning was founded by a Russian physiologist, Ivan P. Pavlov, in the early 1900s. At first, He assumed that animals have automatic connections called unconditioned reflexes, which is a reflection between a fixed stimulus and response such as the food and secreting digestive juices. He speculated that the stimulus can be transferred from one to another. After that, Pavlov did the experiments and get the conclusion. In the process, he gave a dog food and the dog salivated. The connection between the food and the salivation was automatic requiring no training. The food was called unconditioned stimulus (UCS) and the salivation was called unconditioned response (UCR). The UCS is an event that automatically elicits an UCR. In other words, the UCR is the action that the UCS elicits. Next, Pavlov introduced a new stimulus, such as a metronome. At the beginning, the dogs heard the metronome but did not salivate. In this period, the metronome was a neutral stimulus (NS) about salivation. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Shawl is about a mother named Rosa, Magda (her blue eyed blonde hair infant baby), and her older daughter Stella who are forced to march in harsh conditions at a concentration camp. The characters are weak and struggling to survive. Cynthia Ozick describes the struggle by stating their body parts are like tumors on sticks . Judges are also aware of jail/prison overcrowding and may be receptive to the processing out of offenders who are not likely to do much jail time anyway. For prosecutors, a lightened caseload is equally attractive. Most importantly, an offer assures a conviction, even if it is for a lesser charge or crime. This ensures that the prosecuting agency keeps its statistics looking good, and keeps the confidence alive inside the community. No matter how strong the evidence may be, no case is a predetermined conclusion. Prosecutors are often at risk of waging a long and expensive trial with a chance of losing, similar to that of the O.J Simpson murder trial. Prosecutors may use plea bargaining as means to advance their case against a co defendant. Why, then, are you so foolish here, where there is immeasurable greater need and eternal hurt, and do not want to ask for faith, hope, love, humility, obedience, chastity, gentleness, peace, righteousness, unless you are already free of all your unbelief, doubt, pride, disobedience, unchastity, anger, covetousness and unrighteousness. • 52. In Cold Blood Environment The circumstances, environment, and events during an individual s life may have major effects on that individual s personality traits and mindset. In many cases, the environmental factors of a convicted criminal s life have led to the development of criminal minds and the eventual execution of extremely serious felonies. Truman Capoteillustrates how a convict s background can influence a criminal mind in his novel, In Cold Blood. In this nonfiction novel, Capote depicts how the environment and events during the lives of infamous murderers Dick Hickock and Perry Smith have led them to commit the crimeof killing Herbert Clutter and his family. • 54. My Life Of The Sixth Grade In the beginning of the sixth grade, I lived in the city of Westlake, Ohio, as I had for just over two years, and attended Parkside Middle School. As I had for just over two years, I felt very content and happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news that we would be moving away to the city of Canfield. My mother soothed my slight worry with the knowledge that Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had lived for all the time before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She pointed out that I was content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area than before. Thus, I meekly accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That expectation was a miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical and emotional health, and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living in Canfield brought onto me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually to precipitate the other two effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to rather prevalent amounts of bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School. Other students would often mock me for my oddities. The brunt of their taunts focussed on the combination of two thingsВ my rather great amounts of outspokenness combined with my uninterest in forging friendships or other common pursuits. ...
