Persuasive Essay About Fire
Ever heard of a story of a little boy discovering fire for the first time? Well this little boy s mom had a
lighter that had a dolphin design on it and it was used as a decoration piece. So, the little boy found the
lighter and started to play with it and got it to work. He then proceeded to go into the bathroom so his
mom did not know what he was doing. The little boy started to put it up to stuff to see what would
happen. The first thing he grabbed was hairspray. He played with the hairspray and the lighter. He then
managed to light the toilet paper on fire which caused the whole bathroom to catch on fire. The boy s
mom ran into the bathroom and started to put out the fire and when it was out she found him in his
room curled up in a ball holding his thumb because he had burned it. This little boy should have
learned a valuable lesson that day. That lesson is that fire is nothing to mess with. Many people do not
realize the risk of playing or not being careful with fire especially in forest and dry plains.
Here is something to think about, being irresponsible around fire can cause someone to get hurt or it
could cause people to lose their home. In 2002 there was four hundred and sixty five homes destroyed
in Arizona because of wild fires (Kennedy and Johnson). Homes could be saved if forest fires did
happen because of humans. A lot of forest fires are started by humans. As many as Ninety percent of
wildland fires in the United States are caused by humans. Some

Queer History In America Chapter 1 Summary
America has a long and complicated history, some of which has been forgotten or almost hidden away
until recently, specifically LGBT history. The history of LGBTQIA+ people as a whole is something
that has only been written about since the 1970s. Considering the fact that queer people have been
around for much longer than that, their history is still not as developed as it should be. Michael
Bronski, a cultural critic, independent scholar, progressive activist, and college professor, has been
writing extensively on LGBT issues for four decades and has accumulated his knowledge into A
Queer History of the United States. Publishing this queer history , his goal is to educated those who

She wrote Out in the Union: A Labor History of Queer America in order to expose the LGBTQIA+
issues in the labor union. It provides insight on the struggles that Americans had to face with a
different kind of hiring discrimination. Using stories of those who faced their own battles in the labor
union, Frank tries to fill a large gap in history. Starting around the 1970s, she first discusses those who
are coming out in unionized workplaces and follows both queer and straight advocates for gay rights
in their fight against harassment in the workplaces and union halls. Many LGBTQIA+ people have
come out in the union to make their place in labor s campaign for economic justice. They made a part
of their identity public in order to fight for the equal rights they deserve. The battle for equal rights of
transgender workers is also mentioned, their first affirmation in labor agreements being in the 1980s.
Miriam moves on to sharing what she found out about the alliances that were formed between
organizers in queer communities and labor activists to prioritize gay labor issues. Gay labor
campaigns began popping up everywhere, and Miriam wraps up her review of history with the
mention of the passage of the Marriage Equality Act in the State of New York in June

Statement Of Structural Engineering
The determintaion for seeking my future in Structural Engineering comes from my interest in
Structures after I joined undergraduate studies in Civil Engineering at Kathmandu University. I d
found my interest growing already in Civil Engineering when I was in high school. I was following
works of my brother while he was studying Civil engineering. I could understand and draw Plan and
sections before I was got enrolled in undergraduate studies. During my undergraduate studies, I
particularly enjoyed the subjects related to structural Engineering and material science such as
structural analysis, RCC structure, and steel structures etc. Therefore, Joining the MS in Structural
Engineering program at Lehigh University will help me to advance my career in Structural
Engineering. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also enjoyed programming in C, C++, and Matlab. The Final year Project in my Undergraduate
studies, which was a group project, was on the analysis of support system in Hydropower Tunnels in
H igher Himalayas of Nepal. It studies the deformation of the tunnel, support interaction with rock
mass, pressure on the support system, and stiffness of the support required etc. This project has proven
to very beneficial to me as I came to know about the power of Final Element Analysis because of use
of a powerful 2D finitef element software called RS2 (Phase2) for numerical analysis. During my
Undergraduate studies, as a part of the course, I also interned at Upper Tamakoshi Hydro Electric
Project. This internship actually boosted my desire to choose my career path to Structural Engineering

Improving Service Quality Within University Hospitals
Introduction
It is important to understand that facilities fall short in a lot of areas such as service quality
improvement. This not only impacts the facility, but it also affects the patient visits and services
received. Hence, it can be difficult for someone that is new to the area or perplexed with the wealth of
information related to the different subdivisions that a hospital accommodates. There are individuals
that should be put in place to help improve on service quality to its patients and customers. The
purpose of this research paper is to look into methods that are affecting service quality within
University Hospitals of Cleveland and finds ways to improve service quality.

If the correct information is not provided or if the information is not verified appropriately, it can
become an issue not only for the patient but for University Hospitals as a whole.
Managerial Dilemma There can be multiple dilemmas that can trigger the service improvement and
quality in a facility such as University Hospitals. The most valuable employees that are talented on
many different levels can leave the Patient Access department for a position that compensates more.
Due to this, the department can face some possible setbacks based on the loss of an individual that
serves a greater purpose for the department. Additionally, a department in customer service can face
employees that are late or absent on multiple occasions which, can cause the service quality to
decrease. The importance for employees to be on time and to be present is essential in, the
improvement of the service quality in Patient Access.
Ethical Concerns In order to ensure the validity of an effective research study, a more developed way
to improve service quality; researchers must ensure that data collection will be protected, it reflects
accountability and fairness. The standards of this study would also reflect that of establishing the trust
of the data information collected by participants. The intention of this research is to further collaborate

Athabasca Sands Case Study
To what extent does the Athabasca Oil Sands take responsibility in promoting environmental
stewardship? The Oil Sands are a mixture of sand, water, clay and bitumen. Bitumen is oil that is too
heavy or thick to flow or be pumped without being diluted or heated. Throughout many decades, the
environment has become a critical concern, and the responsibility the Oil Sands has taken is
preposterous. The GHG (greenhouse gas emissions) emissions that are released into the environment
undermines its practices. The only way environmental stewardship can be encouraged, is if the Oil
Sands discontinues its oil development. Other alternatives such as stricter rules and regulations should
be placed by the government of Alberta to ameliorate the environment. ... Show more content on

The Athabasca Delta is a breeding ground for species of birds, which was destroyed to clear the land

A scientific panel stated on Tuesday that pollution must be corrected, as there are major debates
against the oil sands development. Proponents argue that business through the Oil Sands has made
Canada a major player in foreign supplement. Unemployment rates have decreased across Canada and
companies generate huge profits. The Alberta Oil Sands provide Canada with a secure source of
energy. Throughout the world, Canadian oil reserves are the second largest in the world. Oil mining
operations in Canada also help create more trading partnerships with different countries. This is a
great way Canada can strengthen relationships and ties with various nation states. The Oil Sands is a
stabilizing force for Canada s economy, yet it has a tremendous effect on the environment.
Corporations are held responsible for their actions, and environmental protection should be their main

State and Local Government
Review of 101 Chambers written by Peverill Squire and Keith E. Hamm Squire and Hamm begin their
writings with introducing the reader to the historical lineage of American legislatures and their
evolution from colonial days to the modern government. The colonial institutions have greatly
influenced the design of the new Congress under the Constitution (Squire and Hamm 34). The
bicameral system had its originations in colonial governments and the original colonial constitutions
had a large impact on the future constitutions. The bicameral legislation structure that is now common
in the United States began in the colonial era. The original colonies has systems that greatly resembled

Squire and Hamm discussed how the modern day legislatures in the United States come from common
ancestors and the evolution from the unicameral system to the bicameral. The authors also show how
the idea of institutional diffusion occurred with one state beginning to form a constitution and
structure, then others following suit soon after in most cases. Member service longevity is not a trend
that can be easily compared among states due to conflicting constitutional laws and the ability to move
into higher elective offices. When comparing state governments to Congress, the states have a higher
turnover rate because there are two sources of turnover that the Congress does not have to deal with.
One is that certain state chambers are described as springboard states, where the representatives have a
better chance of gaining a higher elected office than other states do. When the legislator has a chance
to rise in the government there tends to be a higher turnover rate. These legislators also tend to be
more responsive to constituents on policy preferences than are legislators in other sorts of chambers
(Maestas 2000). Term limits also play a large role in the turnover rates in state governments compared
to that of Congress rates. States that have term limits seem to have higher rates due to the fact that
legislators in term limited legislatures are less obliged to focus on their

Unemployment Poem Unemployment Summary
Every poem constructs a perception for every reader and most readers will have a different outcome
from one another. In the poem Unemployment, written by Fatimah Asghar, the author adds many
hidden messages and symbols in the poems for the readers to uncover, and in a lot of times it tends to
be difficult. Many poets will use their personal experiences to convey the message across to the
audience. It is still difficult for readers to understand the poem right away, as many poetry are needed
to be reread many times to understand the information that the poet is trying to get to the reader. In the

does not define who you are as a women, it is not to say Asghar do not believe in not self grooming
but to embody what you are born with and not hate your own body for it is a gift. Fat and stretch
marks give character to the individual s body and should not be looked down upon, but instead other
women should encourage one of another from negative comments lowering one s self esteem. Asghar
justifies that people should love the skin they are born with instead of changing themselves to look
better physically. What defines a person isn t what s on the outside but within. Asghar wants women to
love themselves for what they have and not the superficial aspects of life.
The definition of beauty is complex, everyone has their own definition of what beauty holds. There are

How Did Gilgamesh Search For Eternal Life
The Epic of Gilgamesh
Rafael Soto
HIST 1111 World History 1
Question 1
The Epic of Gilgamesh is represented as a two thirds god and one third human. A king that went
through a lot of changes in his life, from Love, friendship, death and search for eternal life. As we can
see at the beginning Gilgamesh is a powerful king with no compassion for others, and after the death
of his best friend Enkidu he realizes that death is unavoidable. Gilgamesh start his journey in the
search for eternal immortality; but during his journey and the struggles that he endures he gains the
capacity and the compassion for others.
We can see his compassion when he retrieves the plant that grows under the water and lose it to a
snake.
Compassion:
By its virtue a man may win back all his former strength. I will take it to Uruk of the strong walls;
there I will give it to the old men to eat. Its name shall be The Old Men Are Young Again ; and at last I
shall eat it my self and have back my lost youth. (N.K. Sanders, Chap. 6, p22) ... Show more content

Then Gilgamesh sat down and wept, the tears ran down his face, and took the hand of Urshanabi; O
Urshanabi, was it for this that I toiled with my hands, is it for this I have wrung out my heart s blood?
For myself I have gained nothing; not I, but the beast of the earth has joy now. (N.K. Sanders, Chap. 6,
p22)
Gilgamesh quest for immortality and failures to pass all the tasks show us that death is inevitable, but
what is important is the life that we leave behind, the deed that we have done in it and the impact that
we have make in others. At the end Gilgamesh gain his immortality not in flesh, but throughout

Gothic Cinema And The Movie The Conjuring
In life, some people prefer to watch movies, and some people prefer to read books. Then there are
some who love both movies and books. However, when one genre is portrayed in cinema and in
literature, it is easy to compare the two. Are they complementary or are they in opposition to each
other? In terms of gothic cinema and literature, they are both complementary to one another. In the
two movies, The Conjuring and The Skeleton Key, gothic cinema proves to go hand in hand with the
style of textual gothic and they both show to have a strong aesthetic force. In the pieces of gothic
literature, The Falls, The Book of Blood, and Amityville Horror, they are all very strong gothic pieces
which all have a strong aesthetic force. In the movie, The Conjuring, gothic cinema proves to go hand
in hand with the style of textual gothic and it has a strong aesthetic force. In this movie, it portrays
many aspects of traditional gothic literature. For example, the element of the supernatural is the main
part of this movie. By making the center of this movie about supernatural occurrences, it goes hand in
hand with textual gothic. In textual gothic, there is almost always some type of supernatural element,
even if it is as small as in The Castle of Otranto. However, instead of having a small supernatural
element, The Conjuring provides the audience with extremely terrifying and real supernatural
components. For example, one terrifying moment in this movie is when the daughter, Nancy,

The Monarch Butterfly Annual Migration
Introduction
The monarch butterfly annual migration is a visually spectacular feat, in terms of the number of
butterflies flying to their overwintering sites and as well as the masses that congregates at the
overwintering sites in Mexico. The idea that monarch butterflies exhibited migratory behavior was
once controversial, it was not until Fred Urquhart and his colleagues pioneered a tagging work with
the eastern North American population for decades that revealed the long distance of the monarch
migration. The tagging efforts that began in 1937 lead to the discovery of their overwintering sites in
Mexico in 1975. With its long distance traveled and the nature of the predictable and the repetitive
nature of its annual migration. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Environmental factors such as the decrease in day length, cooler temperature and aging milkweed
trigger the monarch to begin its migration, although the precise environmental trigger that initiates
migration is not well understood. When spring arrives, they become reproductively active, mate and
leave Mexico to re migrate north. During the remigration northward the females lay fertilized eggs on
newly emerged milkweeds in the southern parts of the United States (Reppert and others 2010). Their
offspring s will also continue the migration up northward to repopulate the northern section of the
monarch habitat range. Even though the monarch migration is repetitive and cyclic in nature, their
migration cycle is multigenerational. It takes about two generations of spring and summer butterflies
that are following the progressive northward emergence of milkweeds to repopulate the entire range
and therefore completing the migration cycle (Reppert and others 2010).
Time Compensated Sun Compass (The Navigational process)
The Monarch butterfly uses a map and a compass like other long distance migrants. The map sense is
needed to determine which direction they are to fly and to stop. The compass sense is utilized so that
the migrants can orient in the southern direction throughout the course of their migration. It has been
shown that the monarch may not have a true map sense, although the monarch

Imperialism Pros And Cons
Imperialism is a policy of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military
force .Said by Google Imperialism was an advantage for all countries because it spread technology.
Gave exposure to other culture, and spread language to other countries for easier communication.
Spread of technology was good for countries that were behind in technology. Spread of language was
also good because it could help trade. Europe needed certain goods that could only be grown in certain
areas. In addition to giving imports it gave people that did not not like their to culture to be able to

Bordone And Tintoretto Comparison
Painters other than Bordone have also painted the scene in which Christ is with the doctors. Bordone
is clearly influence by one of these paintings while painting his work. It is said that the painting by
Bordone is indebted to a similar depiction of the same subject by Tintoretto (Ilchman, Christ
Disputing in the Temple, in Eye of the Beholder). When we look at Tintoretto s version of the
painting, we can see clear similarities between both his and Bordone s. The immediate similarities
being the use of light, as well as how Bordone chooses to shift the painting to capture the most
interesting moments in the story, rather than show just one snippet of the action presented in the
written work. In Tintoretto s, we cannot see Mary or Joseph in sight, much like the Hofmann we ...

Bordone would have most likely seen this painting before he painted his. This is due to the fact that
both him and Tintoretto are Venetian painters, and both were assistants to Titian, another very famous
Venetian artist (Ilchman). While the perspective offered in Tintoretto s painting is not naturalistic, and
the scale of the many figures is rather skewed, we can still see the influence he had on Bordone. In
Tintoretto s painting it shows the same dramatic scene that Bordone paints. The figures are all in
movement, looking at books, debating with either Christ, or themselves. Which is essentially what
Bordone s painting is demonstrating as well. Tintoretto also depicts Christ on a throne surrounded by
the doctors, which mirrors Bordone s. The only difference from Tintoretto s, is that there are less
people, and Christ is not in the exact center in Bordone s painting. Bordone uses a more realistic
approach to his painting than Tintoretto. Tintoretto chooses to make the figures in the foreground

The Romantic Poets By William Wordsworth
The world of the Romantic poets is so much different today than it was in the time of the Romantics,
which ranged from 1760 to 1830. Known to a friend as a delicate adolescent John Keats was a
studious young man who was destined to become a doctor before he discovered his passion for poetry.
While Keats was admiring nature and imagining how to help others find true joy in the natural world
as a young man, students today are much more interested in supplementing their imagination through
video games, phones, and movies versus the language of the common man as William Wordsworth,
one of the original Romantic poets, would say. Despite this fact, the lives of the Romantic poets have
inspired audiences with their exaltation of the common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through these various resources critics seemed to glean a good understanding of how Keats used
imagination in various ways. The first defines imagination as its capacity to discover, prefigure, or
create an unseen truth or reality (ix). Keats would have been exposed to the classics of ancient Greece
as a schoolboy. He was influenced and inspired by classic Greek art and mythology. Also, in his
travels, he was inspired by walks among the ancient architecture and ruins that gave him the
foundation for his work. Many of Keats s poems live up to this first definition but none so clear as
Ode on a Grecian Urn. In this poem Keats creates a ethereal world from the design on the Grecian urn.
The lover s locked forever in anticipation of that first embrace: Bold Lover, never, never canst thou
kiss, Though winning near the goal yet, do not grieve; She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss,
For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair! (17 20) It is through imagination that the readers of the poem
can create an unseen reality of the lover s kiss so close but oh, so far away. Through imagination, the
feeling of self denial and frustration can be achieved by the reader. This is only one of the types of
imagination that Waldoff presents in his Preface. The second definition emphasizes the imagination s
capacity for sympathetic identification (x). In Ode on a Grecian Urn Keats sympathizes with the above
lover encouraging him not to worry as his love is going

Rising Action In The 5th Wave
I liked the book I read, The 5th Wave. It was full of action, hardships, and love. The hardship was
shown when Cassie was in the woods fighting for her life. It was also evident in the parts where Ben
was being turned into the soldier that he is. Evans hardship was trying to figure out why he couldn t
kill Cassie as well as when he was blowing up Camp Haven. Blowing up Camp Haven is also an
example of action in the novel. An example of love shown in the novel is, Holding my hand across his
chest, his other hand sliding across my neck, his touch feathery soft, sending a shiver that travels
down my spine into my legs, which are having a hard time keeping me upright. I can feel his heart
slamming against my palm and I can smell his breath and feel the stubble on his upper lip, a
sandpapery contrast to the softness of his lips, and Evan is looking at me and I m looking back at him.
(Yancey 73). Another reason I liked The 5th Wave is the descriptive writing he uses even though some
is graphic.
The climax of the story is when Evan blows Camp Haven up. This is the climax because everything
that happens before is leading up to it. Examples of the rising action are Cassie ... Show more content

I believe this because throughout the novel there are many parts where the characters are having self

promised to save to help them keep fighting. This is shown when in the quote, Floods, fires,
earthquakes, disease, starvation, betrayal, isolation, murder. What doesn t kill us sharpens us. Hardens
us. Schools us, (Yancey 175). Perseverance is the main theme because in order to survive you have to
have the will to live through the tough times and continue on. Cassie shows perseverance when she is

Religion Is A Spiritual Way Of Life
Religion is a spiritual way of life that tells you how to act in this life and ultimately affects life after
death. It is something that is completely faith based because there is no way to prove whether or not it
is real. It doesn t matter what religion you choose to follow; it is imperative to have an understanding
of other religions of the world. The knowledge of other religions gives you the understanding needed
to not be afraid of the unknown. A great example of this is after 9 11, our country was full of fear.
Anyone who looked like they were Muslim was a target of this fear. Most people were not educated
about the Islamic religion but if they had been they would have known that it did not condone
violence. It was an extremely radical group who did not represent the Muslims as a whole.
The knowledge of other religions is beneficial in your everyday interactions with people or when you
are traveling. I grew up all around the world and one thing I did learn was that when you are in a
foreign country, they appreciate when you try to learn and do their customs in their homes. While I did
not grow up in India, I did spend three years in a small borrow outside of London, England where I
met many Hindus. I was only eight years old when I met Pia. We became best friends quickly but it

Territorial Expansion DBQ
Manifest destiny and territorial expansion divided the United States from 1830 to 1860 through views
on Texas, disagreements regarding whether or not it was justifiable to travel west for land, and how to
handle the war that may have arisen as a result of territorial expansion. There was much division
among Americans regarding what should be done with Texas. Some argued that it should join the
other states so that there could be peace between them and Texas (Document F) and that it would
make the slaves more comfortable by providing them with more land and support (Document C.)
However, others argued that annexing Texas would create a dangerous imbalance of slave and free
states. In Document B, Reverend William Ellery Channing claimed that By annexing Texas, we shall
not only create [slavery] where it does not exist, but breathe new life into it, where its end seemed to
be near. In other words, by including Texas as a free state, slavery would only continue to spread for a
longer amount of time than it would have originally. This would, of course, extend the entire conflict
of whether or not slavery was just. This controversy over Texas greatly divided the states amongst
themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Similarities Between Pike And Hunting Snake

in which this is shown is through describing the physical appearance of the pike and snake, and how
each of these animals can be used as figures to represents nature s power and intimidation to the
reader. The theme of nature is also presented through the beauty found in nature captured by the
animals along with the danger that lies within nature

even the youngest things in nature may be dangerous and that this should not be played with, but

that we should respect nature for what it can do to us, and a snake is used as a metaphor to represents

Heroes In Tough Alice
Children and adults alike decorate heroes with compliments such as how courageous they are, or their
bravery. Heroes both present day, historically, and fictionally are decorated with such things; but I ask
what if there s a hero presented without any of these heroic qualities ? Do you believe they even
qualify as a hero anymore? In this case, we will be using Alice, (derived from Tough Alice ), because
in the short story she was presented in, she needed the influence from her peers in order to perform a
heroic deed. Today s heroes compared to Alice differ in small, unseen actions, such as influence,
reasoning, and character. With today s heroes, many of them are influenced by their past, their
opinion, or even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And example of a person s reasoning to be a hero is Martin Luther King Jr., where his reason was
derived from a series of experiences throughout his life. As a child, he was constantly discriminated
for his race for being of colored race. Everytime he would attempt to mingle with white children, their
parents would immediately draw them away from him, spitting out insults such as: You don t want to
contract whatever that child has. At times he would even be called negro , just like the other black
children of his age as well. This, as he was growing up, made him realize that there were hundreds of
thousands of other people who also have had similar experiences as him. Friends of his would often
tell him of their times they ve been discriminated; it was such an important realization that he even
discovered his own parents were being discriminated as much as he was. For this reason, he joined
and provided a great contribution to the Civil Rights Movement, fighting for African American rights.
Compared to Alice, though, ever since she feasted her eyes on the Jabberwock as it appeared, had a
reason to be a hero. The Jabberwock was a creation of her own imagination; a creature that she
claimed was the most frightening creature alive. In the past, the Jabberwock dispatched of 2 other

Analysis of Microsoft Financial Statements
Analysis of Financial Statements
Financial statements are frequently a key source of information for financial decisions and taking a
look at Microsoft s financial statements can help us decide certain things about the company. There
are three different types of statements that will be discussed in this section. These include: the balance
sheet, the income statement, and the statement of cash flows. They are discussed here in either the
sense of quarterly or yearly statements and will be noted as so. All information has been derived from
Yahoo Finance. (http://finance.yahoo.com) The first statement that will be analyzed for Microsoft is
the balance sheet. The balance sheet is essentially a snapshot of what the firm owns ... Show more

The final section of the statement of cash flows is the financing section, which shows the dividends
paid, the purchases of stock, the net borrowings, and other possible cash flows from financing
activities. A positive trend for investors is the fact that dividends paid has increased (even though it is
negative to the firm) as well as sale purchase of stock, from 2009 to 2011 and even increased quarterly
in 2011. The net borrowings is off an on from 2009 to 2011 possibly because of certain funds needed
in particular years. In 2009, it was $5,746,000,000 and in 2010, it was $190,000,000. It shot back up
again in 2011, with $5,960,000,000. The three statements that were provided in this section provide
possible investors, competitors, and even those within the company with useful information to make
important decisions that could affect their livelihood or the livelihood of Microsoft. Keep in mind that
even though financial statements are a solid indicator of how a company is performing, one key
principle about must be known when viewing them to make decisions. They do not always provide all
of the information that you may need. There are usually underlying topics that could affect the
company that are not necessarily showing up on their financial statements. These topics are discussed
in other sections of this report on Microsoft.

Essay on A Portrait of Southside Flats
Introduction to the Neighborhood Situated on the Monongahela River is the neighborhood of
Southside Flats. Within its boundaries is one of the entertainment hubs of Pittsburgh. The main
thoroughfare of E Carson St. is inhabited with bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. The early history of
the neighborhood saw it as a beacon of industry with its proximity to rivers and railways. At the end of
the nineteenth century, it would boast a steelworks factory that employed a sizable portion of the
Southside residents. Many of these residents were immigrants from Eastern Europe and brought many
of their traditions with them to Pittsburgh. This way of life would continue until the 1980s when the
steel plant was shut down. The area was absent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

attract tourists with such areas as the Works. A city in a similar position was Baltimore as highlighted
in the article A Third World City in the First World : Social Exclusion, Racial Inequality, and
Sustainable Development in Baltimore by Mark Levine which addresses the issues of Baltimore in its
quest for more tourism but is hindered by its high crime rate. The plight of Baltimore is also
highlighted in the television program The Wire.
Summary of Demographic and Crime Profile When looking at the population numbers of Southside
Flats and Allegheny County, there are not many differences. The differences are that the neighborhood
has relatively few African Americans living within it (around 2.5%, while Allegheny County has 12%)
(U.S. Census 2000). This is likely due to the history the neighborhood has as a destination for people
of Eastern European descent, which would account for the over 95% of the neighborhood that is white
(U.S. Census Bureau). Another disparity that appears is the number of home owners. The census
information shows that 67% of residents in Allegheny County own their home; Southside Flats data
shows that homeownership is about 42% (U.S. Census Bureau 2000). The biggest difference comes in
median household income. The median income for residents of Southside Flats is just under $25,000,

Why Is Maxim Gun Important
Throughout the years there have been countless inventions that have been brought to the battlefield in
time of need, but there was one invention which would change the face of warfare; the Maxim gun. In
the year 1884, a Maine born inventor named Hiram Maxim invented the first recoil operated machine
gun.1 The gun was invented in the United kingdom and was in service from 1886 to 1959. The Maxim
gun weighed around 27.2kg, fired 550 rounds per minute, and took a minimum of four men to operate
it. Throughout the years the machine gun has evolved and change in so many shapes and sizes. The

Server Controlled Multicast Chat System
SERVER CONTROLLED MULTICAST CHAT SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION
An assumption that is intrinsic to a basic communication involves two parties, the server and the
client. Here, our design is based on a chat application which involves one to many communication
(i.e., with one server and multiple clients, in which the server acts as the central system administrator
and has got control over all other clients who wish to join the network.
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE DESIGN: The Multicasting in java can be achieved by using the
sockets and thread concepts in the Java networking programming. We consider two sockets, one in the
server side that waits for the client messages on a particular port and the other in the client side to
receive messages from each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the user logs into the system with his/her credentials provided the server is started intitially and
is waiting for the clients, it starts storing all the actions performed in a log called the Event log for the
corresponding user session. It requires the user to run the Client login program every time of a new
user wants to connect. The message sent by user hits the server first and the user makes it display on
all the screen of all other users who are online. This is the main focus of our design and is
implemented using the threading. Also, if a user logs off, all other users of the group will be notified
of it and the logged off users loses access over the application. He has to login again to achieve a
connection with the system once again.
SPECIAL ASSUMPTIONS: 1) A user who wishes to login can successfully login with any name,
provided the password is 12345 . The system is designed in such a way for simplicity as this is not the
main focus of our design.
2) Any multiple number of the users can login with the same username, because the system treats
them as different individuals as each and every client is referenced by a unique id.
3) Once a user wishes to log off, he sends a Goodbye message and the server disconnects him from
the application and notifies to all other users currently connected.
TESTING:
1) Our system works fine at both the circumstances, when the server

A green belt or greenbelt is a policy and land use designation used in land use planning to retain areas
of largely undeveloped, wild, or agricultural land surrounding or neighbouring urban areas. Similar
concepts are greenways or green wedges which have a linear character and may run through an urban

preventing development of the area allowing wildlife to return and be established.

Rogue Trader
Rogue Trader
How many times can you go double or nothing before you wind up a billion pounds in debt? In Rogue
Trader , a film based on the life on Nick Leeson, we get a glimpse into this real world dilemma. The
drama begins with Leeson s promotion to general manager of Barings Futures Singapore. As general
manager, he faces a personal quandary and must decide whether to cover for a friend and coworker
who made an honest mistake (one that resulted in the loss of a substantial amount of money) or to turn
the same person in to face termination. Leeson chooses loyalty to his friend over loyalty to the bank,
and covers up the losses by creating an error account. This account served to hide said losses while
Leeson tried to make back the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, throughout the movie, almost no top executives came to Singapore to make sure that the
new business operation was running smoothly. Lack of training to recognize risk was also a problem
since Leeson s assistant, Risselle, was not competent enough to question or whistle blow on the
creation of the 88888 account and other questionable actions asked of her, even though they were
obviously high risk. One major problem was the lack of an early detection system in place for risky
behavior auditors were only present in new market AFTER there was a flag in the system, not as the
new market was being set up. Why was there not an external auditor or consultant that was contracted
to specifically deal with risk assessment for employees? More generally Barings Future Singapore is
inherently risky because SIMEX is an emerging market, one where nobody can predict the rise and
fall. This becomes obvious when the stock market crashes as a result of the Kobe Earthquake in the
movie. Furthermore, risk increases as business increases (volume). An example of this is when Leeson
takes on Beaumarchais as a client, knowing his business volume was a quarter of the SIMEX market.
That is too much volume for a fledgling market.
Control Activities is another area that was grossly overlooked in Rogue Trader . Firstly, Barings board
members delegated auditing tasks to staff that didn t follow through with the entire process. This can

Thomas Pynchon Accomplishments
Thomas Pynchon is an American author, known for his deep and complex novels. Some say he is the
greatest American author since World War II. Being such a private person, there are only few pictures
of him in the public, and only few interviews with him. By using satire, irony, and symbolism, he
showcased the moral flaws in humans at that time in society. Doing so he influenced many future
writers, and artists, as well as the literature world. Pynchon is known for being part of the
postmodernism movement in literature.
Born on May 8th 1937, in New York, he is the descendent of William Pynchon, the founder of

believed to be the reason cyberpunk made its way into the literature world and grew into a popular
genre. The Bible of the 21st Century has an Old Testament and a New. The Old, written in 1973 by
Thomas Pynchon, is called Gravity s Rainbow. In 1987, in Spin Magazine, Thomas Leary compared

Pynchon, cyberpunk would not be the genre that it is today. He stated that the New Testament to
Pynchon s novel was Gibson s novel; Neuromancer. His novel was published in 1973, and cyberpunk
was not viewed as a literary genre until the early 1980 s. His novel is considered to be the original
cyberpunk novel, which is why some categorize it in that

The Color Purple And Ovid s Metamorphoses
In the heart breaking novel The Color Purple by Alice Walker, we read about the protagonist and
narrator, Celie who is a victim of rape and abuse. She is caught in this vicious patriarchal society
where women have no voice. In this novel we see many similarities to Ovid s archetypal rape
narrative. I will discuss the similarities in full detail and explain how the men in the female
protagonists lives hurt and betrayed them. I will be looking at the book The Color Purple as well as
Ovid s Metamorphoses.
When looking at The Color Purple we read about Celie s tragic life, and you feel her pain and
suffering by just reading the words on the page. Her father beats and rapes her and by the looks of
things, it seems that she is forever doomed with eternal heartache, abuse and rape. It seems that she
will never be happy. She is controlled and manipulated by the men in her life that she should be able
to trust. Her father Alphonso has complete control over her and uses her to his advantage and she
suffers from it.
Alice Walker vividly portrays the sad but apparent reality of life in the black rural communities of
America during the mid twentieth century. It is a time when the impacts of slavery are still ... Show

for the first time in front of his new husband, he gave a slight repulsive or disapproving look. Later in
the scene, he is seen asking his friend What do you think? to which his friend tells him she looks tired.
Until this moment, Ada has been denied her wish twice. She is dropped at the coast against her wish,
and her husband leaves her piano at the coast even though she insisted. On the top of that, she has
been judged as a property and an object. Clearly, she is not like what her husband had expected. He
must have expected a more beautiful and young wife and therefore he looked a bit disappointed.

  • 2. Persuasive Essay About Fire Ever heard of a story of a little boy discovering fire for the first time? Well this little boy s mom had a lighter that had a dolphin design on it and it was used as a decoration piece. So, the little boy found the lighter and started to play with it and got it to work. He then proceeded to go into the bathroom so his mom did not know what he was doing. The little boy started to put it up to stuff to see what would happen. The first thing he grabbed was hairspray. He played with the hairspray and the lighter. He then managed to light the toilet paper on fire which caused the whole bathroom to catch on fire. The boy s mom ran into the bathroom and started to put out the fire and when it was out she found him in his room curled up in a ball holding his thumb because he had burned it. This little boy should have learned a valuable lesson that day. That lesson is that fire is nothing to mess with. Many people do not realize the risk of playing or not being careful with fire especially in forest and dry plains. Here is something to think about, being irresponsible around fire can cause someone to get hurt or it could cause people to lose their home. In 2002 there was four hundred and sixty five homes destroyed in Arizona because of wild fires (Kennedy and Johnson). Homes could be saved if forest fires did happen because of humans. A lot of forest fires are started by humans. As many as Ninety percent of wildland fires in the United States are caused by humans. Some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The history of LGBTQIA+ people as a whole is something that has only been written about since the 1970s. Considering the fact that queer people have been around for much longer than that, their history is still not as developed as it should be. Michael Bronski, a cultural critic, independent scholar, progressive activist, and college professor, has been writing extensively on LGBT issues for four decades and has accumulated his knowledge into A Queer History of the United States. Publishing this queer history , his goal is to educated those who are willing to listen on the buried and forgotten LGBTQIA+ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She wrote Out in the Union: A Labor History of Queer America in order to expose the LGBTQIA+ issues in the labor union. It provides insight on the struggles that Americans had to face with a different kind of hiring discrimination. Using stories of those who faced their own battles in the labor union, Frank tries to fill a large gap in history. Starting around the 1970s, she first discusses those who are coming out in unionized workplaces and follows both queer and straight advocates for gay rights in their fight against harassment in the workplaces and union halls. Many LGBTQIA+ people have come out in the union to make their place in labor s campaign for economic justice. They made a part of their identity public in order to fight for the equal rights they deserve. The battle for equal rights of transgender workers is also mentioned, their first affirmation in labor agreements being in the 1980s. Miriam moves on to sharing what she found out about the alliances that were formed between organizers in queer communities and labor activists to prioritize gay labor issues. Gay labor campaigns began popping up everywhere, and Miriam wraps up her review of history with the mention of the passage of the Marriage Equality Act in the State of New York in June ... • 6. Athabasca Sands Case Study To what extent does the Athabasca Oil Sands take responsibility in promoting environmental stewardship? The Oil Sands are a mixture of sand, water, clay and bitumen. Bitumen is oil that is too heavy or thick to flow or be pumped without being diluted or heated. Throughout many decades, the environment has become a critical concern, and the responsibility the Oil Sands has taken is preposterous. Squire and Hamm discussed how the modern day legislatures in the United States come from common ancestors and the evolution from the unicameral system to the bicameral. The authors also show how the idea of institutional diffusion occurred with one state beginning to form a constitution and structure, then others following suit soon after in most cases. Member service longevity is not a trend that can be easily compared among states due to conflicting constitutional laws and the ability to move into higher elective offices. When comparing state governments to Congress, the states have a higher turnover rate because there are two sources of turnover that the Congress does not have to deal with. One is that certain state chambers are described as springboard states, where the representatives have a better chance of gaining a higher elected office than other states do. When the legislator has a chance to rise in the government there tends to be a higher turnover rate. These legislators also tend to be more responsive to constituents on policy preferences than are legislators in other sorts of chambers (Maestas 2000). A king that went through a lot of changes in his life, from Love, friendship, death and search for eternal life. As we can see at the beginning Gilgamesh is a powerful king with no compassion for others, and after the death of his best friend Enkidu he realizes that death is unavoidable. Gilgamesh start his journey in the search for eternal immortality; but during his journey and the struggles that he endures he gains the capacity and the compassion for others. We can see his compassion when he retrieves the plant that grows under the water and lose it to a snake. Compassion: By its virtue a man may win back all his former strength. I will take it to Uruk of the strong walls; there I will give it to the old men to eat. Its name shall be The Old Men Are Young Again ; and at last I shall eat it my self and have back my lost youth. In terms of gothic cinema and literature, they are both complementary to one another. In the two movies, The Conjuring and The Skeleton Key, gothic cinema proves to go hand in hand with the style of textual gothic and they both show to have a strong aesthetic force. While Keats was admiring nature and imagining how to help others find true joy in the natural world as a young man, students today are much more interested in supplementing their imagination through video games, phones, and movies versus the language of the common man as William Wordsworth, one of the original Romantic poets, would say. Through these various resources critics seemed to glean a good understanding of how Keats used imagination in various ways. The first defines imagination as its capacity to discover, prefigure, or create an unseen truth or reality (ix). Keats would have been exposed to the classics of ancient Greece as a schoolboy. He was influenced and inspired by classic Greek art and mythology. Also, in his travels, he was inspired by walks among the ancient architecture and ruins that gave him the foundation for his work. Many of Keats s poems live up to this first definition but none so clear as Ode on a Grecian Urn. In this poem Keats creates a ethereal world from the design on the Grecian urn. The lover s locked forever in anticipation of that first embrace: Bold Lover, never, never canst thou kiss, Though winning near the goal yet, do not grieve; She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss, For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair! Through imagination, the feeling of self denial and frustration can be achieved by the reader. This is only one of the types of imagination that Waldoff presents in his Preface. The second definition emphasizes the imagination s capacity for sympathetic identification (x). There was much division among Americans regarding what should be done with Texas. Some argued that it should join the other states so that there could be peace between them and Texas (Document F) and that it would make the slaves more comfortable by providing them with more land and support (Document C.) • 26. Rogue Trader Rogue Trader How many times can you go double or nothing before you wind up a billion pounds in debt? In Rogue Trader , a film based on the life on Nick Leeson, we get a glimpse into this real world dilemma. The drama begins with Leeson s promotion to general manager of Barings Futures Singapore. As general manager, he faces a personal quandary and must decide whether to cover for a friend and coworker who made an honest mistake (one that resulted in the loss of a substantial amount of money) or to turn the same person in to face termination. Leeson chooses loyalty to his friend over loyalty to the bank, and covers up the losses by creating an error account. This account served to hide said losses while Leeson tried to make back the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, throughout the movie, almost no top executives came to Singapore to make sure that the new business operation was running smoothly. Lack of training to recognize risk was also a problem since Leeson s assistant, Risselle, was not competent enough to question or whistle blow on the creation of the 88888 account and other questionable actions asked of her, even though they were obviously high risk. One major problem was the lack of an early detection system in place for risky behavior auditors were only present in new market AFTER there was a flag in the system, not as the new market was being set up. Why was there not an external auditor or consultant that was contracted to specifically deal with risk assessment for employees? More generally Barings Future Singapore is inherently risky because SIMEX is an emerging market, one where nobody can predict the rise and fall. This becomes obvious when the stock market crashes as a result of the Kobe Earthquake in the movie. Furthermore, risk increases as business increases (volume). An example of this is when Leeson takes on Beaumarchais as a client, knowing his business volume was a quarter of the SIMEX market. That is too much volume for a fledgling market. Control Activities is another area that was grossly overlooked in Rogue Trader . Firstly, Barings board members delegated auditing tasks to staff that didn t follow through with the entire process. She is caught in this vicious patriarchal society where women have no voice. In this novel we see many similarities to Ovid s archetypal rape narrative. I will discuss the similarities in full detail and explain how the men in the female protagonists lives hurt and betrayed them. I will be looking at the book The Color Purple as well as Ovid s Metamorphoses.
