Hawaii Environmental Issues
The entire world is experiencing climate change and a vast array of environmental problems.
Hawaii itself is suffering from its own issues: the decline of native species, ocean pollution, the
erosion of waterways, and more. None of these problems can be solved in a single sweeping
gesture. Only through many small efforts, with many people, can we solve the issues we now face,
both in Hawaii and the world as a whole.
However, while many small efforts are necessary, large changes can be accomplished when
individuals have the intent, knowledge, skills, and credentials to initiate, plan, and carry out
projects designed to solve these issues. Environmental Studies would prepare me to be one of
those people. After completing my degree I will be able to participate in efforts to solve many of
the environmental problems Hawaii now faces.
Hawaii has more reason than most places to seek to protect and care for its natural environment.
Besides its enviable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different capacities I can accomplish this through, however: as an environmental
planner, an analyst, a policy maker, a speaker, and in many other ways as well. I cannot promise
any specific career or project or goal, because it is impossible to predict what the focus of
environmental efforts will be in four years, how much scientific progress we will make between
now and then, what jobs will be available, and many other factors that may influence both what I
am able to do, and what I can do to have the greatest positive effect. The details of my plan are
flexible. My intent is not, however. I intend to help the people and the land through any capacity
that I can to ensure a bright and healthy future for our island and our world. That is what I offer to
Hawaii: my intent to create a healthier aina for the benefit of the land and the people, and to create
a brighter

Not Just a Matter of Time: Field Differences and the Shaping of Electronic Media in Supporting

Abstract
The shift towards the use of electronic media in scholarly communication appears to be an
inescapable imperative. However, these shifts are uneven, both with respect to field and with
respect to the form of communication. Different scientific fields have developed and use distinctly
different communicative forums, both in the paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see notable risks in a pure laissez faire let them work it out for themselves approach. Large
amounts of money, resources, and effort are being committed (by government agencies, by
academic departments, by publishers, by professional societies, and by individual researchers) to
the development, maintenance, and promotion of various forms of communications technologies
for use in global science. However, in the absence of a valid theory of how scholarly fields adopt
and shape technology, scientists and policy makers are left only with context free models, and
hence resources may be committed to projects that are not self sustainable, that wither, and that do
not effectively improve the scientific communications system of the field. The consequences may
not only be sub optimal use of financial resources, but also wasted effort on the part of individual
researchers, and even data languishing in marginal, decaying, and dead systems and formats. The
purpose of this JASIS perspectives article is to deepen our understanding of the future of electronic
communications in science. It is difficult to predict the longterm future, as too many contingencies
can and will shape long term outcomes to make meaningful predictions. One may casually predict
that that many if not all research journals will issue electronic editions in the 21st century; however,
more complex issues about the role of

Socially Constructed Stereotypes
Socially constructed stereotypes play a role in the way that female professionals are perceived
in the workplace (Wolfson 44). If there were firm wide regulations for professional attire that
were applicable to both women and men, then it would be appropriate. Female lawyers have a
long standing effort of pushing boundaries of what is considered appropriate for the courtroom
(Farmer 5). A private firm can make the determination to enforce a dress code, but it cannot be
discriminatory towards protected classes such as sex or religion, therefore, it is not appropriate for
firms to restrict attire monitoring to femaleattorneys (Title VII, EEOC).
The mixed motive framework of dress codes is difficult to unravel when it comes to female
professionals.

The Brisbane Synagogue Ritual Analysis
In this unit of SOR the year 11 s have been focusing on Rituals. Earlier in the term the year 11 s

of sacred sites facilitate rituals and reflects an approach to the divine. The Church present at the St
Mary s site was built between 1900 1904. The Brisbane Synagogue is the oldest Synagogue that is

10 Pet Rules
Pets are one of the most time honored home security systems ever conceived, but as pet owners we

As long as you are consistent and provide leadership, your pet will adjust. Here are 10 THINGS
TO BE as you start the bonding process that establishes your lifelong relationship with your pet.
пѓ BE SMART: It s very important for your dogto be wearing an ID tag from the first day he is
at your home. Before you bring your new dog or puppy home, have the tag ready for him. If you
haven t chosen a name for your dog yet, just put your address and phone number on it.
пѓ BE KIND: Your pup will probably need to go to the bathroom soon after he arrives. It would be
a good idea to take him outside before he begins to explore your home. Praise him when he goes.
пѓ BE QUIET: Your puppy will do better if your house is quiet. Loud noises may scare him.
Later, when he is used to your house, you can introduce new sounds slowly.
пѓ BE BRIEF: Holding your puppy is important so he learns to love you, but on the first day, hold
him only a few minutes at a time.
пѓ BE THERE: Give your new dog time to explore your house, but don t leave him alone. You
can stand behind him and follow him to the places he wants to go.

first day, but they will be there if he does.

Erich Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front Essay
Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front
I am young, I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair, death, fear, and fatuous
superficiality cast over an abyss of sorrow. I see how peoples are set against one another, and in
silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another (263). Powerful changes
result from horrifying experiences. Paul Baumer, the protagonists of Erich Remarque s All Quiet on
the Western Frontutters these words signifying the loss of his humanity and the reduction to a
numbed creature, devoid of emotion. Paul s character originates in the novel as a young adult, out
for an adventure, and eager to serve his country. He never realizes the terrible pressures that war ...

He states that when he goes home, his family will be shocked to hear this language. Paul treats his
lingual freedom as privilege that soldiers have, and shows the benefits of living a soldier s life. He
refers to the front as if it were a paradise, for he can use vulgar language and not worry about
manners and decorum. He treats his service as a time for relaxation, recreation, and a little
excitement. This attitude becomes short lived as the realities of war sink in. When Paul
volunteers for reconnaissance one night, he becomes stranded in No Man s Land (the area
between opposing trenches) and begins to realize the brutality of war and starts to lose his own
humanity. At the beginning of the book, Paul shows care towards his fellow soldiers and treats his
service as an adventure by his education of the recruits and his excitement towards the boundaries
of his vocabulary.
When Paul becomes stranded in No Man s Land, he undergoes the transformation from a carefree
young adult to an inhumane, lifeless shell of a man. The change begins when Paul hides in a shell
hole, waiting for a pause in the bombardment. A French soldier jumps in as well, looking for
shelter. Paul has prepared for this circumstance and stabs him three times. Paul s strikes are not
mortal enough, for the wounds do not immediately kill the Frenchman. The enemy soldier dies over
the next day, and while the soldier slides inexorably into the throes of death, Paul

President Islam Karimov Left His Country
Uzbekistani President Islam Karimov left his country as he ruled it: plagued by inconsistencies in
news reports, government cover ups, and incorrigible deceit. While Karimov reportedly died on
September 2nd at the age of 78 due to a brain hemorrhage, he likely passed away well before his
government s official announcement. The full extent of Karimov s critical condition was not
revealed to the media until his daughter, Lola Karimova Tillyaeva, announced it on her Instagram
profile. Then, after days of speculation, the Uzbek government finally confirmed that Karimov had
passed away. Following a few hours of leadership contention, Nigmatilla Yuldashev, the chairman of
the upper house of Parliament and next in the line of presidential succession, stepped aside to allow
long time Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyevto become the interim leader.
The government s postponement of broadcasting Karimov s death may raise eyebrows, but rather it
sheds light on the fears of the regime. Considering that in its 25 years of existence, Uzbekistan has
never held democratic elections and that nearly half of the country s 32 million citizens have only
lived under Karimov, such a delay in announcing the Uzbekistani leader s death signifies that the
regime is concerned about maintaining the status quo. Unfortunately for its citizens, its neighbors
in Central Asia, and leaders around the world, Uzbekistan s status quo is malicious, progressively
inert and undeniably criminal. Though it has been

The Ethics Of Bill Gates
Let s suppose you are walking down the street on a Sunday afternoon when out of nowhere you
see a man get shot. You rush over to this man and can tell that he doesn t have more than a few
moments left. As his dying wish he makes you promise to give his fortune of $10 million dollars
to his best friend Bill Gates. As you are walking over to Bill Gates house you see a sign for
Children s Miracle Network Hospital asking for $10 million dollars for research on a rare
genetic disease that could save 100,000 lives. What do you do? Would you keep your promise
to the dying man and give this money to Bill Gates or would you do what would help more
people by donating the money to Children s Miracle Network Hospital? If you decided to
donate the money to charity to save an immense amount of lives you would side with
teleological theory whereas if you decided to keep your promise and give the money to Bill
Gates, you would be agreeing with deontological theory. These theories have deeply divided
modern ethics today. I would choose to agree with teleological theory to dishonor my promise with
this dying man to be able to bring more happinesson earth. I believe that if more people lived by the
teleological theory the world would be a better place today.
Teleological ethics is based on maximizing nonmoral goods, like pleasure, happiness, welfare, and
the improvement of suffering. The teleologist focuses on the outcome that each decision makes, not
the act itself. Teleological ethics are

Capital Punishment Is The Most Severe Form Of All Sentencing
Capital Punishment

Capital punishment is the most severe form of all sentencing. It was first introduced in 1700 B.C.
When written under the Code of Hammurabi by the sixth Babylonian king. The laws covered
nearly all subjects but is well known for its law stating, If a man put out the eye of another man,
his eye shall be put out. ( Birth of a, 2012) The death penalty was prescribed for about twenty five
crimes under the code, but murder was not on the list.(Reggio, 1997) Capital punishment has been
around for a considerate amount of time, but continues to this day to be debated upon if it is
constitutional to lawfully murder someone for their mischievous acts. Introduction During the
fourteenth century in England, a person could be executed for a crime as minor as disturbing the
peace. As with policing in America, the death penalty was adopted into the American culture. (
Penal code, 2005) When the first colonists came to the land now known as the United States, they
brought their court and prison system with them. A colonist in Virginia could be executed for
crimes as small as stealing food or trading with the Indians. It wasn t until the year 1608 that the
first execution took place, Captain George Kendall was hung for the capital offense of treason.(

The Problem Of Criminal Justice System
Since the dawn of man crime has been a problem. Even though most people have some basic
sense of what is right and what is wrong, crime still occurs. All the way back to the ancient code of
Hammurabi man has tried to understand, classify, and appropriately punish crime. The bible itself
includes a detailed set of rules, or commandments, about what was legal and what wasn t. There are
many ideas and schools of thought that surround the idea of criminal justice. Initially the main goals
of these schools of thought were to classify and punish crimes, however in the recent past we are
seeing a shift toward the deterrence and prevention of crime. Early classical, biological, and
psychological theories helped shape what is today s criminal justice system.
One of the earliest theories that attempted to explain the cause of crime is classical theory. In 1764,
Cesare Beccaria published his Essay on Crimes and Punishments. The book, which contained
Beccaria s thoughts and observations about the criminal justice system, was important because it
was the first of its time to contain thoughts about the philosophy of punishment. According to
classical theory, individuals have the ability to exercise free will and due to this should be held
responsible for their actions. Crime is a result of rational decision making where the criminal must
decide if the possible punishment for the crime is worth the potential gain. Beccaria stated that
crimes needed fitting punishments to act as a

Neiberg wrote the Second Battle of the Marne that covers this specific battle that took place in

battle as well. To write the book Neiberg used several primary sources, which enhanced the

book where he compares the First Battle of the Marne to the second and how the Armies and
countries were different in their techniques, skills, and weaponry but its hard to depict which
battle he is talking about at times. Overall, I liked the detail in the chapters and that the author did

Jesus Is Not Ashamed And Call You Brother
Jesus is not ashamed to call you brother. Let that sink in a little. Don t rush past that sentence. You.
With everything you thought about yesterday (yeah, he heard those thoughts) and the temptations
to which you yielded (yeah, he saw that too). Yes, you, struggling Christian. Jesus is not ashamed to
call you brother (or sister).
As I recently read Hebrews, I was struck in a fresh way with the power of this reality. Jesus is not
ashamed to be associated with me. And not simply in a friend sort of way or even a servant sort of
way. The Bible says that Jesus calls me friend and servant but it also says more. His pride of
association with me is on the familial level. He is not ashamed that I am a part of his family. But not
only is he not ashamed of me, he delights in me. The writer of Hebrews goes on later to say that it
was for the joy set before him that he endured the cross. What was that joy set before him? It was
me. And it was you. Brothers and sisters added to the family of God that they might reign with Him
in the new heavens and the new earth. When Jesus looks at us, he is proud.
But I fear that while we would all check the box and say we believe this truth, in practice we fail to
live out its implications.
Personal Implications

the conviction of the Holy Spirit. And rather than boldly coming before the throne of grace in our

Traveling can be enjoyable and frightening at the same time. Being from Honduras, my family
would travel back in forth from the U.S. to Honduras every summer. Being able to experience
living in two different cultures was a good experience and allowed for a more understanding
approach of different societies and how the identity of the people living in those Society s is unique.
My favorite part of traveling was when it was time to go to the airport and getting onto the

As the long flight continued everything was good and the food was delicious. Everything was
normal until there was weird noises that seemed to be coming from the aircraft. This
understandably frightened a lot of passengers and myself due to the knowledge of risks that are
taken when flying. You could hear the panic in the area as any passengers were calling the

Determination Of Blood Glucose Levels And Qualitative...
Practical Report (Determination of blood glucose levels and qualitative carbohydrate tests)
Introduction: The term Carbohydrates is defined as the carbon compounds which contains
hydroxyl groups in large quantities (King, 2013). Carbohydrates are those organic compounds
which have the empirical formula CnH2nOn, or (CH2O)n (Fromm 1997). Carbohydrates are
one of the four types of organic compounds in living cells that are produces during
photosynthesis and are the important source of energy in both plants and animals (Ahmed 2014).
They are built from monosaccharides. These monosacchradies are the small molecules that
consists of three to nine carbon atoms and differ in size and in the stereochemical configuration
at one or more carbon centers. The simplest carbohydrates also contain either an aldehyde or
ketone compounds (freeman 2002). Carbohydrates are classified as simple and complex
carbohydrates. The classification of carbohtdydrates is based on the chemical structure of the
food and how fast it absorbs. Simple carbohydrates contains single or double sugars in their
chemical structure whereas complex carbohydrates consists of three or more sugars (ahmed 2014).
There are four major types of carbohydrates depending on their chemical composition. 1)
Monosacchrides: Mono means single and saccharides refer to sugar. These are the simple form of
carbohydrates that consists carbon, hydrogen and oxygen in the ratio of 1:2:1 (Ahmed 2014).

is a seven foot tall photograph in which she depicts herself in the biblical story of Judith beheading
Holofernes, a subject commonly portrayed by Italian Baroque artists. The photograph could easily

Faith Ringgold makes a more obvious reference to the past with the explicit depiction of Da Vinci

ignoring the traditional ideas of art and the white men that have been glorified within the art world
that also oppresses and ignores black women s voices. Similar to how Sherman altered the way the
female was depicted in a traditional style painting, Ringgold also countered these traditional ideas.
She depicts the five black women in a way that they normally wouldn t have been, she shows a
story that didn t happen, but she wish would have. The technique of quilting she uses also
contradicts the European tradition because it was never necessarily considered fine art and was
associated with female craft. The personal connection in Dancing at the Louvre is much deeper and

War One because, this was one of the most significant causes of tension between some of the most
powerful countries in Europe. I strongly agree that this contributed to World War One but there are
also several other factors that have to be considered such as the Assassination of Archduke Franz
Ferdinand, the First Moroccan Crisis, the Second Moroccan Crisis, the Balkan Wars and the Arms
Race. Naval Rivalry When Kaiser Wilhelm announced that he intended to build a powerful navy in
1898.Britains natural reaction was to feel very threatened and intimidated, especially since Britain

Franz Ferdinand was killed because Serbians feared that after his ascension to the throne, he
would continue and even heighten the persecution of Serbs living within the Austro Hungarian

with his arm. Theb Archduke later resumed his tour of Sarajevo, but when his chauffer took a
wrong turn another Black Hand agent, Gavrilo Princip stepped up to the car and fired two pistol
shots. Sophie was killed instantly and Franz died minutes later. This lead to Austria Hungary
producing a lengthy list of demands to Serbia, which were to be completed within 48 hours.
Serbia could not comply with all the demands and on July 28 1914 Austria Hungary declared
war on Serbia World War One had begun. This contributed to the start of the First World War
because Serbia enraged Austria Hungry so much that they declared war. The First Moroccan

Germany and France coveted the place. By her entente with Britain in 1904, France was given a

The Museum Of Glass Art Movement
Robert Clark Palusky, b.1942 Duluth, MN, is a pioneer in the contemporary glass art movement.
A prolific artist, Palusky s career in glass spans four decades. His work is featured in museums
around the world and celebrated in many world class private collections. Most prominent show to
date includes TГЄte Г TГЄte: Figures Humaines (Ten Masters in Glass) a show featuring Palusky
along side Pablo Picasso, Salvidore Dali, and Jean Arp.
Typically, in order to see Palusky s artwork in person, you would have to travel to museums in
Switzerland, Japan or Spain, or in the U.S. to the Museum of Modern Art or the Corning
Museum of Glass. However, due to sheer luck, Palusky s work is on display right here in
Saratoga Springs at the Equine Gallery at Studio di Luce which benefits The Foal Project
(www.foalproject.org). The gallery is located at 480 Broadway on the main floor right next door to
City Hall.
I ve been blessed to know Robert Palusky (Bob) and his wife, Virginia (also an amazing artist in
her own right) for quite some time, and they have been great friends of the Foal Project as well.
When the Equine Gallery opened a few months ago, it only made sense to ask if I could
showcase one of his pieces, to highlight his work, and introduce this remarkable artist to the
Saratoga community. I was honored when he was kind enough to oblige. I had no idea which
piece he would agree to send to Saratoga, however, it was no surprise to discover there was a horse
involved.

WebView plugin and it should be titled Bar Managers. This plugin we will have to work with
the user management side. You can create tags which can be used to determine if a user can
access something. We do not want any non manager user to be able to access the file upload

a bar manager tag. In the WebView plugin there is a tab called security and you can require a

The Ethical Issues Of Abortion
Introduction
There are numerous ethical issues that can develop in labor and delivery whether this issue
influences the mother, baby, or both. In healthcare, it is an obligation for the provider to give ideal
care, treatment, and prevent harm to patients while making ethical choices. Here and there, these
choices aren t highly contrasting and providers must outweigh benefits versus harm in order to
give the best care possible for mother and baby. One case of an ethical issues that emerges in
obstetrics is late abortion in raped victim women.
What is late term abortion related to raped victims? late term abortion which is also known as post

Cons
On the other hand, the against life or pro abortion support abortion of fetus for many reasons.
There are many times when abortion may be the best and only option for continuing live. One
and most painful reason to mother is when rape occur. Rape is an act of violence, not a natural
act of intercourse and intimate relationship between two. Rape wounds respect, freedom,
physical and moral integrity which every person has the right to. In other words, raped victim

prepared to take care of themselves and the newborn baby after delivering. (Ladock)

The Importance Of Workplace Conflict
Conflict is a natural part of human existence. It occurs in just about any environment and the
workplace is no exception. Conflicts arise when there is a difference of opinion between two or
more persons (Cohen, 2014). Workplace conflicts can be difficult to resolve, however, unresolved
conflicts can result in poor interpersonal relationships, compromise employee loyalty, and even
jeopardize quality and safety (Bowers Ferron, 2014). While unresolved conflicts may have
deleterious effects on the work environment, healthy conflict resolution can lead to creativity and
growth (Bowers Ferron, 2014). One of the main sources of conflict between employees,
supervisors, and the human resource (HR) department is poor communication. Nurses can
experience conflict with other nurses due perceptions of favoritism, poor team work, and unfair
work assignments as can employees in any field of work. According to Cohen (2014), a common
misconception among nurse managers is that nurses can resolve conflicts on their own with little
or no guidance. However, Cohen argues that most nurses have little or no formal training in
conflict resolution and that they often cope with conflict in the workplace much like they do in
their personal lives (2014). As a result, less than ideal conflict resolution approaches such as
avoidance behaviors and unprofessional body language or verbal responses are used which serve
only to further exacerbate problems (Cohen, 2014). Leaders have a responsibility to

American Indians And The American Indian
In present day capitalist Unites States, we value the America Dream as much now as we did over
a century ago. This opportunity of prosperity, success, and upward social mobility, entices the
masses to work hard and achieve set aspirations. The American Dream however, is hindered across
the American Indian population, and in order for this hope of prosperity to come to fruition,
American Indians need to be given the same opportunities as all other ethnic groups. The term
American Indian is officially defined as, a member of one of the indigenous people of the
Americas, esp. one of the people indigenous to the land in what is now the continental United States
( American Indian, OED def.1). According the U.S Department of Interior Indian Affairs, there are
566 federally recognized Indian tribes in the Unites State ( Tribal Directory ). Also, the U.S Census
gathered that roughly 5.4 million Americans identify as American Indians ( American Indian
/ Alaskan Native Population ). While these 566 tribes may be scattered throughout the United
States, most share a common dilemma. There are many problems plaguing the American Indian
population, but a major one has to be the shocking high rate of unemployment across all tribes. The
foundation of a thriving society is the prosperity of its people, without sufficient employment
American Indian society as a whole suffers. The U.S Bureau of Labor and Statistics shows that

With steam continuously entering the autoclave from the top, the air inside the autoclave would be
displaced. When the displacement finishes, all the contents in the autoclave would reach and be
held at the required temperature, giving the satisfactory sterilisation cycle. There are six autoclaves
in the Transfusion Unit at Evans Medical, each consists of a pressure gauge and a dial thermometer
at the top and a recording thermometer with an inserted recorder sensor in the condensate drain.
There was evidence given by the autoclave operator and supervisor that occasionally the
temperature recorders of autoclaves numbers 4, 5, and 6 either show a temperature below 240 or
fail to indicate any rise above the baseline from about December 1970. When this happened,
technicians were called to inspect the autoclaves. Normally, the recorder would work again and the
sterilising cycle will be continued. On most of the occasions, the technician advised the supervisor
that the temperature recorder was broken but the supervisor ignored his advice and continued using
the autoclaves. In fact, the manager of the Transfusion Unit had requested for replacement of all six
recorders but the request was not followed up. In consequence, in the event of the recorder not
functioning, the staff continued the production if the dial thermometer and the pressure gauge were
working properly and indicating correct temperature and pressure.

The superiority theory notes that people laugh outwardly or inwardly at others because they feel
some sort of triumph over them or feel superior in someway to them, for example parents laughing
at the the misunderstandings of their children. When communicators, or narratives, use this type
of humor they make their audiences feel superior in the sense that they [the audience] are brought
up to a more equal relationship with the speaker (Meyer 314, 318). Although allowing an

Current And Projected Healthcare Applications Of 3d...
Introduction
Three dimensional (3D) printing, also known as rapid prototyping (RP) and additive manufacturing
(AM), is a transformational technology that is anticipated to revolutionize the healthcare industry.
Current and projected healthcare applications of 3D printing include: customized prosthetics;
personalized surgical implants; drug delivery, pre operative and educational anatomical models; and
tissue and organ engineering. The implications of 3D printing are expected to be considerable and
include benefits such as: improved efficiency and reduced costs; personalized medicine; and
increased collaboration . The implementation of this technology does not come without significant
challenges, however. The healthcare industry is one of the most regulated in the Unites States,
hype can contribute to idealized expectations, biocompatible materials must be identified, and
intellectual property may be difficult to protect as a result of 3D printing. This article reviews
current advances in 3D printing and the current and projected healthcare applications that will

Comparison of The Red Room and The Signalman Essay
Comparison of The Red Room and The Signalman.
The two stories we were asked to compare had one common themes which were the building of fear
and suspense throughout.
One clear difference between the stories was the function of fear in the stories. In the The Red
Room the author does not only use fear as a means of evolving the story but also places it at the
centre of the story. The Signalman uses fear of the supernatural as a means of making the story
more believable as done in The Red Room . Although both stories are equally frightening, I feel that

The narrators are not named in either of the stories but in The Red
Room the narrator is described in more detail, he is described as the
28 year old young man . He is the only youthful character in the story, all the other characters seem
to blend in with the castle; they are old and grotesque. They seem to add to the atmosphere of fear
and the supernatural, they also seem to symbolise the castle itself; they are both mysterious and
rather threatening.
In The Signalman there are only two characters who both play major roles in the unravelling of
the story. The Signalman himself is physically described to fit in with his grim surroundings, he
seems to be part of the gloominess of the railway cutting, All what is revealed other than his
appearance is his job.
No names are revealed in either of the stories, I think that this creates a distance between the readers
and the characters as there is no need for the readers to be familiar with them because these are both
short stories. Instead, the writers in both stories concentrate on the events and their description
rather than the characters.
As both stories were written such a long time a go, their language is very much part of their era.

Pierre Elliot Trudeau s Impact On Canada
Pierre Elliot Trudeau, a Francophone born in Montreal, became Canada s 15th Prime Minister,
with his Liberal Party, on April 20th, 1968. He is a vital person who had a tremendously positive
impact on Canada and its civilians. The vision he dreamt of giving birth to a nation with freedom
and peace was achieved a couple of years into his political career. He had his fair share of
downfalls as a Prime Minister, but overall the outcome he achieved of his country was magnificent,
a result no other Prime Minster in Canadian history could attain. The most important change my
Prime Minister made during his term in office was settling the everlasting dispute between the

Summary Of Untitled By Gerald Dono
The painting of Untitled by Gerald Donato displayed in the Taubman Museum in Roanoke allures
attention by the chaotic combination of figural pieces and the collided whirlwind of vibrant
yellows, oranges, greens, and undertones of black. The background information shares that Gerald
Donato was a talented, beloved painter and teacher whose work anticipated references to
important art historical developments. Ideological forces, such as familiar cartoon imagery,
Steamboat Willie , and formally represented figures, are clearly influences in his work as his
interest of hidden subject matter is visually bursted on an oil canvas. He created a blended cartoon
like scene of abstraction and figuration by incorporating a mysterious feminine figureMoon face
and a recurring character Mr. Man to embody a message of escaping from the spiral cage that
represents the constraints in life. Mr. Donato borrowed images from past history and radically
transformed these elements through his own blend of abstraction and figures to send a message
about the conflict between society and individuals.
The artist depicts an initial confusing and weirded out thought for the viewer at first glance, but as
one deeply examines the art, the subject matter begins to become more clear. The vision being
shared in this non objective painting has a context of placing one in the standing of Mr. Man by
gaining height and freedom from the (white) bars that are rising on each level that represent
conflict which traps one in a cage of misery. The unbalanced symmetry of having the left side take
up more space with little action, and the right side being smaller with the action unraveling, makes
the viewer break down each composite perspective. For the left side, the mysterious female muse,
Moon Face, has an unproportional face that is almost blushing with shades of light pasty orange,
with the mouth wide open. The energetic mood is amplified by the tone of yellow that is
splashed in the mouth, representing a loss of words or at a state of disbelief. The female s lower
half is created with tints of red that enhances the curves on her body, as if chiaroscuro connects the
light and dark contrast to show outline of the breasts, stomach, and hips in

Chile 1960 Research Paper
In Valdivia, Chile 1960 an earthquake changed the lives of many. An earthquake is the violent
shaking of the ground that will destroy homes, buildings, landforms, historical monuments, and
lives. Earthquakes begin with the breakage of rock along a fault line. When two tectonic plates rub
against each other they create an earthquake. Earthquakes will ride along a fault line which will
determine how long the quake will go on. The larger and longer the fault like the bigger the
earthquake. Earthquakes send out waves, primary waves or, p waves and secondary waves or, s
waves travel along the interior of the earth. These two waves are called body waves. While
detecting the waves, the primary waves appear first then the secondary waves. Primary waves
travel through solids, liquids, and gasses, which means they are about to travel through the liquid

Analysis of New Ideas from Dead Economists Essay
Todd G. Buchholz defines economics as the study of choice. Economists examine the consequences
of the choices people make. The creation and evolution of economics over centuries came from the
ideas of four economists: Adam Smith, Thomas Malthus, David Ricardo, John Stuart Mill, Karl
Marx, Alfred Marshall and John Maynard Keynes. These well respected economists help the theory
of economics grow and become what it is today. Economics started with the ideas of Adam Smith.
He is credited as the first true economist. He had never taught nor took a class in economics. In his
book The Wealth of Nations Smith alludes to the idea that self interest motives allows a nation to

Smith advocated for free trade for a country. A country should export more than it imports. This
stimulates the growth of the economy. Adam Smith was an optimist who sought the best for his
country.
On the other hand, Thomas Malthus had little hope for the future. He believed that the world s
population will increase faster than the production of food. The human race, he believed, would
starve and there would be periods of chaos. Malthus said that the population increases at an
exponential rate, nearly doubling amount. There is no way food growth would be able to catch
up with population growth. Malthus solution was War, Famine, and Plagues . He believed that
was the only way to decrease population and hopefully salvage the human race. These events
would increase death rates liberating the world of disaster. Malthus tried to persuade lower
classes form creating children and from marriage. At that time the lower classes were considered
to be given higher wages, which would increase the makings of children and marriages. Thomas
Malthus pleaded with everyone to make a change in order to decrease population. David Ricardo
agreed with both the ideas of Malthus and Smith. Ricardo strongly argued for free trade. The idea
of cooperative advantage emerged. The simply says that a nation should produce only the goods it
best produces, rather than it producing every necessity. Then the nation will be able to buy the
good that it needs for cheaper and

Wilfred Owen asks where are the ...passing bells for these who die as cattle? The author of
Anthem for Doomed Youth leads his reader through his personal struggle and frustration of war.
Owen has an abrasive approach when describing the death all around him and clearly expresses
his anger with the hasty orisons for the dead. He speaks directly of battlefront in the first octet
and then includes the home front in the second half of his sonnet. Owen s purpose is not a
commemoration of fallen soldiers. Rather, he divulges the disgust and disappointment of war.
Like McCrae, Wilfred Owen paints a picture of the multitude of deaths. Back at the home front,

There is a lack of passing bells for these who die as cattle....no prayers nor bells; Nor any voice of

Geologists And Tourists At The Taupo Volcanic Zone ( Tvz...
Introduction In this report, I will be explaining two surface features which are visually
interesting to geologists and tourists in the Taupo Volcanic Zone (TVZ), Lake Taupo, and Mt
Ruapehu. Lake Taupo is a main tourist attraction as it is the largest lake in New Zealand with a
beautiful scenery perfect for activities like recreational fishing and sky diving. Furthermore, it
generates electrical energy via the Waikato river that is used by people all around waikato. Mt
Ruapehu is also a tourist attraction as the highest peak on the North Island with two major ski
fields and only glaciers on its slopes. Creation Believe it or not, both surface features are active
volcanoes. Lake Taupo a caldera, and Mt Ruapehu a stratovolcano. These volcanoes were
formed because TVZ is a convergent plate boundary where the Pacific (Oceanic) plate which is
more dense ,is getting subducted under the Australian (Continental) crust which is less dense.
This is being driven by a force called convection which happens in the asthenosphere which is
fluid. It is when the fluid near the core heats up, and rises due to it s low density compared to the
surrounding fluid. This fluid then cools down and sinks due to it s high density compared to the
surrounding fluid. It therefore gets near to the core again and so, repeats the cycle. The direction
of the convection can cause plate boundaries opposite and away from each other will result in
divergent plate boundaries and opposite but towards each

The s Theory Of Knowledge
As human beings, we have the natural propensity to acquire knowledge from our evolving
environment, through different ways of knowing such as perception, reason, emotion and language.
Knowledge can be defined as information acquired from experience or education or the awareness
of a situation. Thus, denoting experience, education and awareness as the roots of knowledge.
Consequently, if a knower is not able to experience an event or be educated, the concept of
knowledge may cease to exist. Therefore, in order for a knower to experience an event, they must
acknowledge their individual perspective of the event, to ascertain the extent in which the
knowledge presented to them is beneficial or irrelevant. To address the titular statement, one must
acknowledge what is meant by the Knower s perspective . The knower s perspective can be
defined as a series of events enforced on an individual that causes them to perceive animate,
inanimate objects and knowledge claims with a certain unique viewpoint. Thus, this essay aims to
explore the knowledge question: To what extent is the knower s (individuals) perspective important
in acquiring knowledge ? The knower s perspective can be manipulated by numerous factors such
as indigenous knowledge, shaping their perspective to a more shared viewpoint. This is significant
as it highlights how the knower s perspective could be considered convoluted, due to the factors
that make it a universal perspective, therefore, making the knower s

Important Factors to Remember when Giving a Speech
Back in my high school in Malaysia, I was not really a good speaker. I rarely practiced speaking in
English because I used my national language, Malay, most of the times in most of the situations.
After getting a pretty decent result for my final examination in high school, I was offered by my
government to further my study in United States. During the preparation before flying to the
United States, I thought that I was very lucky to be offered a scholarship to the country that uses
English as its native language because I have taken English classes so language is no longer a
problem. I thought that if I could excel in writing, so I could speak fluently. After completing my
preparation, I flew to the United States in August 2013. Everything was nice until the Fall 2013
started. My life was so dull. I felt like I was all alone. I failed to make friends because I had
communicationproblem. Even though I was in 101C class at that time, I still could not improve my
communication skill as the class did not require the students much to communicate with the other
students. However, things changed after I got into English 150 class. My communication skill gets
better day to day and now I am able to deliver a speech. As the time passed, I have delivered more
than 2 speeches and I feel confident now to talk. In this essay, I want to reflect what I have learnt
from my speech for the assignment 4 (Exploring a Campus Organization); dress code, tone of
voice, eye contact, and a hooked

Monophasic Nap
Researchers claim that daytime napping is not natural for humans because it will result in sleep
inertia, cut into personal time, and keep you up at night. However, humans have individual
needs and monophasic sleep is not for everyone; sleep inertia can easily be avoided, and
strategically planning a nap will prevent adjustments to your personal time and night time sleep
schedule. The key to reaping the rewards of an afternoon nap is knowing your body and
understanding your needs. Adults are capable of this. There are reasons why a monophasic sleep
pattern of about seven to nine hours is effective for some people. A person who works a 9 to 5 job,
sleeps throughout the night without disruptions, and is in good health, can follow a routine

Capital Pyongyang Essay
Yes, the British sport has managed to invade arguably the most covert and hostile nation in the
world North Korea. For decades foreigners were denied access in this secretive country until in
the 21st century when the government has finally started to issue tourist visas for a few
selective parts of the nation. Capital Pyongyang is one of those places, where outsiders are
allowed to visit and back on April 25, 2008, on the outskirts of the city, at Taesongsan Park, the
locals heard the sound of a ball hitting the bat for the first time. It was a six a side triangular
tournament, named Pyongyang Friendship Cup. The idea of taking the game to an isolated country

The Syrian connection Once famous for its rich history and tradition the ancient city of Aleppo,
has now been reduced to ruins in the ongoing Syrian civil war. But, centuries before this
massacre, this city had witnessed one of the most significant incidents in the history of cricket.
According to the written documents, in 1676, it was in Aleppo where the game of cricket was
first played outside the British territories. Back in the 17th century, the city used to be a trading
hub and it attracted a lot of British traders and sailors. By that time back in England, Cricket had
already been evolved and it was quite popular amongst the travelling Englishmen, who carried
the game outside the isles. Henry Teonge of Wolverton, Worcestershire, was one such traveller,
who came to Aleppo during that time and documented in his diary about the game of Krickett ,
which used to be played amongst the Britishers as a pastime. One entry in his diary on May 6,
1676, read, This morning early at least 40 of the English, with his worship the Consull, rod out of
the cytty about 4 miles to the Greene Platt, a fine vally by a river syde, to recreate them selves.
Where a princely tent was pitched; and wee had severall pastimes and sports, as duck hunting,

Prepared Infant Formulas
The Infant
Breast feeding is the most favorable food an infant receives. A woman starts to lactate after birth
and the newborn yearns for their mother s milk. The child and mother bond creating a comfort
environment. The breast milk comprises of balanced nutrients that carry immunological traits.
However, if the mother didn t have a healthy pregnancy or has a sexual transmitted infection the
milk may do more harm than good. (Leifer 397 398) Supplemental nutrition is readily available if
breast feeding was not ideal. Synthetic nutrition is different than human milk. Allergies could
possibly develop and it could disrupt their digestion. Pediatricians speak favorably of iron fortified
formulas due to low maternal iron it decreases after 6 months of age. Cow s milk is not good for
infants until they are one. There are many companies that create prepared infant formulas. Many
well known names are Enfamil, Similac, Nestle, Pedialyte. (Leifer 398 399) ... Show more content

Checking the expiration date of the formula, run soapy water to nipples and bottles rise
thoroughly, follow right proportions to each feeding, test temperature of the milk prior
administering milk, keep formulas in an appropriate area such as the refrigerator to keep
bacteria from growing. (Leifer p. 399) Selecting and preparing solids foods for the infant may be
tricky for parents. There are several concerns that parents might have. Solid foods are introduced
at the age 4 months to 6 months. Pediatricians speak well of rice cereal. It should be the first food
to be introduced since it barely harbors allergic reactions. Fruits, vegetables, and meats should be
a part of their diet. Thoroughly cleaning all produce. Parents are warned of the use of honey.
Honey may contain spores that can make the infant very ill. Parents are also taught to pour plenty
of water into the food to keep a pureed consistency. Freezing the meal afterwards to keep it fresh.

Cultural Consideration Paper
Cultural Consideration Western generational models can not be applied broadly to a global
workforce. (Erickson, 2011, p. 1) The events that shaped the generations in the United States did
not necessarily happen around the world. Other countries and cultures have had their own
monolithic events to shape their beliefs and character. While events such as World War II did
happen globally, not every country was involve in that war and did not have the same experience
as say people in the United Kingdom and United States might have had. The potential exception to
this rule is the proposed Generation Y and Millennials who have globally had access to the same
information due to increasing availability of technology. In a recent email report... Show more

As new employees come in to an organization there should be a uniform way to impart
information to help the individual assimilate to the corporate culture as quickly as possible. In
an effort to gain consistency this usually means that people come in and get a crash course on
systems and logistics. Traditionalist may prefer a mentor with similar ideals. Baby Boomers
may want a structured training session. Generation Xers may prefer an online training class and
Millennials might prefer something in a group setting so they can start building relationships.
So how does a corporation efficiently and effectively offer all of these options? They usually can
not separately, but components of each can be integrated into an onboarding and development
plan so that all people are receiving the key information in a way that they best assimilate such
information. Situational Leadership Situational Leadership was a model originally developed
by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard to effectively assess what each person needs from leadership
on each task. (Hersey, 2004) Dr. Hersey and Blanchard parted ways and put their own spin on
the same model but it still stands that it works and can be applied to any person of any age with
any task. The key is that the leader has to be perceptive and fluid in leadership styles. One of the

Influence Of Reading And Writing
Reading and Writing affects me Reading and writing is not something I really enjoyed too much
growing up. After all, a kid who can barely speak English may not enjoy something like grammar
or fall behind others on a reading level. Growing up, reading and society have not really mixed
well in my view. When I was a kid, I would read for fun and for educational purposes, and the
society around me would be saying that the higher you can read the better. In middle school, I started
to not read for amusement, but more for education. Finally, in high school, being forced to read felt
like annoying, busy work. Honestly, I do not have a deep story of how reading has greatly affected
me in my more recent years, but I know that reading created a big image of how the world could
or should be today. Reading and writing has had positive influences on how I act in the real
world, but society has been a negative impact towards reading and writing for most of my years,
but not all of them. Reading has never been a strong point for me, but if I go back to my
elementary years society helped boost my will to read. When I was in the English to Speakers of
Other Languages (ESOL) class, I was at such a low reading level that I could not read any of the
books the other kids in my regular classes were reading in class. Society in elementary school
said that being able to read at a high level makes you cool, so without a doubt I wanted to fit in
with everyone else and read with

The Effects Of Vaccination On Children And Children
published a controversial study in British journal Lancet where he linked MMR vaccination to
autism. (Should I include what his study was based on and results?) Years later, many other studies
proved it wrong but mistrust of science and mistrust of government is still there (2011). For
example, Phea Paul study stated that there is no evidence that autism is cause by any vaccineand
therefore no reason for parents to deny a child protection in today s vaccines offered (2009). His
study shows that if comparing risks mathematically of death or disability as a result of not

immunizing it increases significantly.
Despite the fact, that some people believe that vaccination is bad, majority of the population still

major cause of severe acute gastroenteritis or AGE. Previously it infected nearly every child in
United States by age of 5 years old until routine rotavirus vaccination on United States infants began

  • 2. Hawaii Environmental Issues The entire world is experiencing climate change and a vast array of environmental problems. Hawaii itself is suffering from its own issues: the decline of native species, ocean pollution, the erosion of waterways, and more. None of these problems can be solved in a single sweeping gesture. Only through many small efforts, with many people, can we solve the issues we now face, both in Hawaii and the world as a whole. However, while many small efforts are necessary, large changes can be accomplished when individuals have the intent, knowledge, skills, and credentials to initiate, plan, and carry out projects designed to solve these issues. Environmental Studies would prepare me to be one of those people. After completing my degree I will be able to participate in efforts to solve many of the environmental problems Hawaii now faces. Hawaii has more reason than most places to seek to protect and care for its natural environment. Besides its enviable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different capacities I can accomplish this through, however: as an environmental planner, an analyst, a policy maker, a speaker, and in many other ways as well. I cannot promise any specific career or project or goal, because it is impossible to predict what the focus of environmental efforts will be in four years, how much scientific progress we will make between now and then, what jobs will be available, and many other factors that may influence both what I am able to do, and what I can do to have the greatest positive effect. The details of my plan are flexible. My intent is not, however. I intend to help the people and the land through any capacity that I can to ensure a bright and healthy future for our island and our world. That is what I offer to Hawaii: my intent to create a healthier aina for the benefit of the land and the people, and to create a brighter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Electronic Media Not Just a Matter of Time: Field Differences and the Shaping of Electronic Media in Supporting Scientific Communication Rob Kling Geoffrey McKim April 27, 2000 Indiana University School of Library and Information Science 10th Jordan, Bloomington, IN 47405 USA +1 812 855 5113 kling@indiana.edu, mckimg@indiana.edu Accepted for publication in: Journal of the American Society for Information Science Abstract The shift towards the use of electronic media in scholarly communication appears to be an inescapable imperative. However, these shifts are uneven, both with respect to field and with respect to the form of communication. Different scientific fields have developed and use distinctly different communicative forums, both in the paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see notable risks in a pure laissez faire let them work it out for themselves approach. Large amounts of money, resources, and effort are being committed (by government agencies, by academic departments, by publishers, by professional societies, and by individual researchers) to the development, maintenance, and promotion of various forms of communications technologies for use in global science. However, in the absence of a valid theory of how scholarly fields adopt and shape technology, scientists and policy makers are left only with context free models, and hence resources may be committed to projects that are not self sustainable, that wither, and that do not effectively improve the scientific communications system of the field. The consequences may not only be sub optimal use of financial resources, but also wasted effort on the part of individual researchers, and even data languishing in marginal, decaying, and dead systems and formats. The purpose of this JASIS perspectives article is to deepen our understanding of the future of electronic communications in science. It is difficult to predict the longterm future, as too many contingencies can and will shape long term outcomes to make meaningful predictions. One may casually predict that that many if not all research journals will issue electronic editions in the 21st century; however, more complex issues about the role of ... • 4. Socially Constructed Stereotypes Socially constructed stereotypes play a role in the way that female professionals are perceived in the workplace (Wolfson 44). If there were firm wide regulations for professional attire that were applicable to both women and men, then it would be appropriate. Female lawyers have a long standing effort of pushing boundaries of what is considered appropriate for the courtroom (Farmer 5). A private firm can make the determination to enforce a dress code, but it cannot be discriminatory towards protected classes such as sex or religion, therefore, it is not appropriate for firms to restrict attire monitoring to femaleattorneys (Title VII, EEOC). The mixed motive framework of dress codes is difficult to unravel when it comes to female professionals. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Erich Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front Essay Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front I am young, I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair, death, fear, and fatuous superficiality cast over an abyss of sorrow. I see how peoples are set against one another, and in silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another (263). Powerful changes result from horrifying experiences. Paul Baumer, the protagonists of Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Frontutters these words signifying the loss of his humanity and the reduction to a numbed creature, devoid of emotion. Paul s character originates in the novel as a young adult, out for an adventure, and eager to serve his country. He never realizes the terrible pressures that war ... Paul treats his lingual freedom as privilege that soldiers have, and shows the benefits of living a soldier s life. He refers to the front as if it were a paradise, for he can use vulgar language and not worry about manners and decorum. He treats his service as a time for relaxation, recreation, and a little excitement. This attitude becomes short lived as the realities of war sink in. When Paul volunteers for reconnaissance one night, he becomes stranded in No Man s Land (the area between opposing trenches) and begins to realize the brutality of war and starts to lose his own humanity. At the beginning of the book, Paul shows care towards his fellow soldiers and treats his service as an adventure by his education of the recruits and his excitement towards the boundaries of his vocabulary. When Paul becomes stranded in No Man s Land, he undergoes the transformation from a carefree young adult to an inhumane, lifeless shell of a man. The change begins when Paul hides in a shell hole, waiting for a pause in the bombardment. A French soldier jumps in as well, looking for shelter. Paul has prepared for this circumstance and stabs him three times. Paul s strikes are not mortal enough, for the wounds do not immediately kill the Frenchman. The enemy soldier dies over the next day, and while the soldier slides inexorably into the throes of death, Paul ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. President Islam Karimov Left His Country Uzbekistani President Islam Karimov left his country as he ruled it: plagued by inconsistencies in news reports, government cover ups, and incorrigible deceit. While Karimov reportedly died on September 2nd at the age of 78 due to a brain hemorrhage, he likely passed away well before his government s official announcement. The full extent of Karimov s critical condition was not revealed to the media until his daughter, Lola Karimova Tillyaeva, announced it on her Instagram profile. Then, after days of speculation, the Uzbek government finally confirmed that Karimov had passed away. Following a few hours of leadership contention, Nigmatilla Yuldashev, the chairman of the upper house of Parliament and next in the line of presidential succession, stepped aside to allow long time Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyevto become the interim leader. The government s postponement of broadcasting Karimov s death may raise eyebrows, but rather it sheds light on the fears of the regime. Considering that in its 25 years of existence, Uzbekistan has never held democratic elections and that nearly half of the country s 32 million citizens have only lived under Karimov, such a delay in announcing the Uzbekistani leader s death signifies that the regime is concerned about maintaining the status quo. Unfortunately for its citizens, its neighbors in Central Asia, and leaders around the world, Uzbekistan s status quo is malicious, progressively inert and undeniably criminal. Though it has been ... • 11. The Ethics Of Bill Gates Let s suppose you are walking down the street on a Sunday afternoon when out of nowhere you see a man get shot. You rush over to this man and can tell that he doesn t have more than a few moments left. As his dying wish he makes you promise to give his fortune of $10 million dollars to his best friend Bill Gates. As you are walking over to Bill Gates house you see a sign for Children s Miracle Network Hospital asking for $10 million dollars for research on a rare genetic disease that could save 100,000 lives. What do you do? Would you keep your promise to the dying man and give this money to Bill Gates or would you do what would help more people by donating the money to Children s Miracle Network Hospital? If you decided to donate the money to charity to save an immense amount of lives you would side with teleological theory whereas if you decided to keep your promise and give the money to Bill Gates, you would be agreeing with deontological theory. These theories have deeply divided modern ethics today. I would choose to agree with teleological theory to dishonor my promise with this dying man to be able to bring more happinesson earth. I believe that if more people lived by the teleological theory the world would be a better place today. Teleological ethics is based on maximizing nonmoral goods, like pleasure, happiness, welfare, and the improvement of suffering. The teleologist focuses on the outcome that each decision makes, not the act itself. Teleological ethics are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Capital Punishment Is The Most Severe Form Of All Sentencing Capital Punishment Directed Research: CCJ 2910 Instructor: Dr. Neal Jaresia Marks 19 NOV 14 Capital punishment is the most severe form of all sentencing. It was first introduced in 1700 B.C. When written under the Code of Hammurabi by the sixth Babylonian king. The laws covered nearly all subjects but is well known for its law stating, If a man put out the eye of another man, his eye shall be put out. ( Birth of a, 2012) The death penalty was prescribed for about twenty five crimes under the code, but murder was not on the list.(Reggio, 1997) Capital punishment has been around for a considerate amount of time, but continues to this day to be debated upon if it is constitutional to lawfully murder someone for their mischievous acts. Introduction During the fourteenth century in England, a person could be executed for a crime as minor as disturbing the peace. As with policing in America, the death penalty was adopted into the American culture. ( Penal code, 2005) When the first colonists came to the land now known as the United States, they brought their court and prison system with them. A colonist in Virginia could be executed for crimes as small as stealing food or trading with the Indians. It wasn t until the year 1608 that the first execution took place, Captain George Kendall was hung for the capital offense of treason.( Death penalty information, 2012) Among other serious capital crimes in colonial times were murder, rape, heresy ... • 14. The Problem Of Criminal Justice System Since the dawn of man crime has been a problem. Even though most people have some basic sense of what is right and what is wrong, crime still occurs. All the way back to the ancient code of Hammurabi man has tried to understand, classify, and appropriately punish crime. The bible itself includes a detailed set of rules, or commandments, about what was legal and what wasn t. There are many ideas and schools of thought that surround the idea of criminal justice. Initially the main goals of these schools of thought were to classify and punish crimes, however in the recent past we are seeing a shift toward the deterrence and prevention of crime. Early classical, biological, and psychological theories helped shape what is today s criminal justice system. One of the earliest theories that attempted to explain the cause of crime is classical theory. In 1764, Cesare Beccaria published his Essay on Crimes and Punishments. The book, which contained Beccaria s thoughts and observations about the criminal justice system, was important because it was the first of its time to contain thoughts about the philosophy of punishment. According to classical theory, individuals have the ability to exercise free will and due to this should be held responsible for their actions. Crime is a result of rational decision making where the criminal must decide if the possible punishment for the crime is worth the potential gain. Beccaria stated that crimes needed fitting punishments to act as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To write the book Neiberg used several primary sources, which enhanced the overall detail of the book. There were a few parts that were confusing in the beginning of the book where he compares the First Battle of the Marne to the second and how the Armies and countries were different in their techniques, skills, and weaponry but its hard to depict which battle he is talking about at times. With everything you thought about yesterday (yeah, he heard those thoughts) and the temptations to which you yielded (yeah, he saw that too). Yes, you, struggling Christian. Jesus is not ashamed to call you brother (or sister). As I recently read Hebrews, I was struck in a fresh way with the power of this reality. Jesus is not ashamed to be associated with me. And not simply in a friend sort of way or even a servant sort of way. The Bible says that Jesus calls me friend and servant but it also says more. His pride of association with me is on the familial level. He is not ashamed that I am a part of his family. But not only is he not ashamed of me, he delights in me. The writer of Hebrews goes on later to say that it was for the joy set before him that he endured the cross. What was that joy set before him? It was me. And it was you. Brothers and sisters added to the family of God that they might reign with Him in the new heavens and the new earth. When Jesus looks at us, he is proud. But I fear that while we would all check the box and say we believe this truth, in practice we fail to live out its implications. Carbohydrates are one of the four types of organic compounds in living cells that are produces during photosynthesis and are the important source of energy in both plants and animals (Ahmed 2014). They are built from monosaccharides. These monosacchradies are the small molecules that consists of three to nine carbon atoms and differ in size and in the stereochemical configuration at one or more carbon centers. The simplest carbohydrates also contain either an aldehyde or ketone compounds (freeman 2002). Carbohydrates are classified as simple and complex carbohydrates. Conflicts arise when there is a difference of opinion between two or more persons (Cohen, 2014). Workplace conflicts can be difficult to resolve, however, unresolved conflicts can result in poor interpersonal relationships, compromise employee loyalty, and even jeopardize quality and safety (Bowers Ferron, 2014). While unresolved conflicts may have deleterious effects on the work environment, healthy conflict resolution can lead to creativity and growth (Bowers Ferron, 2014). One of the main sources of conflict between employees, supervisors, and the human resource (HR) department is poor communication. Nurses can experience conflict with other nurses due perceptions of favoritism, poor team work, and unfair work assignments as can employees in any field of work. According to Cohen (2014), a common misconception among nurse managers is that nurses can resolve conflicts on their own with little or no guidance. However, Cohen argues that most nurses have little or no formal training in conflict resolution and that they often cope with conflict in the workplace much like they do in their personal lives (2014). As a result, less than ideal conflict resolution approaches such as avoidance behaviors and unprofessional body language or verbal responses are used which serve only to further exacerbate problems (Cohen, 2014). The Signalman himself is physically described to fit in with his grim surroundings, he seems to be part of the gloominess of the railway cutting, All what is revealed other than his appearance is his job. No names are revealed in either of the stories, I think that this creates a distance between the readers and the characters as there is no need for the readers to be familiar with them because these are both short stories. The vision he dreamt of giving birth to a nation with freedom and peace was achieved a couple of years into his political career. He had his fair share of downfalls as a Prime Minister, but overall the outcome he achieved of his country was magnificent, a result no other Prime Minster in Canadian history could attain. The most important change my Prime Minister made during his term in office was settling the everlasting dispute between the French and English Canadians. • 38. Summary Of Untitled By Gerald Dono The painting of Untitled by Gerald Donato displayed in the Taubman Museum in Roanoke allures attention by the chaotic combination of figural pieces and the collided whirlwind of vibrant yellows, oranges, greens, and undertones of black. The background information shares that Gerald Donato was a talented, beloved painter and teacher whose work anticipated references to important art historical developments. Ideological forces, such as familiar cartoon imagery, Steamboat Willie , and formally represented figures, are clearly influences in his work as his interest of hidden subject matter is visually bursted on an oil canvas. He created a blended cartoon like scene of abstraction and figuration by incorporating a mysterious feminine figureMoon face and a recurring character Mr. Man to embody a message of escaping from the spiral cage that represents the constraints in life. Mr. Donato borrowed images from past history and radically transformed these elements through his own blend of abstraction and figures to send a message about the conflict between society and individuals. The artist depicts an initial confusing and weirded out thought for the viewer at first glance, but as one deeply examines the art, the subject matter begins to become more clear. The vision being shared in this non objective painting has a context of placing one in the standing of Mr. Man by gaining height and freedom from the (white) bars that are rising on each level that represent conflict which traps one in a cage of misery. The unbalanced symmetry of having the left side take up more space with little action, and the right side being smaller with the action unraveling, makes the viewer break down each composite perspective. For the left side, the mysterious female muse, Moon Face, has an unproportional face that is almost blushing with shades of light pasty orange, with the mouth wide open. The energetic mood is amplified by the tone of yellow that is splashed in the mouth, representing a loss of words or at a state of disbelief. The female s lower half is created with tints of red that enhances the curves on her body, as if chiaroscuro connects the light and dark contrast to show outline of the breasts, stomach, and hips in ... An earthquake is the violent shaking of the ground that will destroy homes, buildings, landforms, historical monuments, and lives. Earthquakes begin with the breakage of rock along a fault line. When two tectonic plates rub against each other they create an earthquake. Earthquakes will ride along a fault line which will determine how long the quake will go on. The larger and longer the fault like the bigger the earthquake. Earthquakes send out waves, primary waves or, p waves and secondary waves or, s waves travel along the interior of the earth. These two waves are called body waves. While detecting the waves, the primary waves appear first then the secondary waves. • 40. Analysis of New Ideas from Dead Economists Essay Todd G. Buchholz defines economics as the study of choice. Economists examine the consequences of the choices people make. The creation and evolution of economics over centuries came from the ideas of four economists: Adam Smith, Thomas Malthus, David Ricardo, John Stuart Mill, Karl Marx, Alfred Marshall and John Maynard Keynes. These well respected economists help the theory of economics grow and become what it is today. Economics started with the ideas of Adam Smith. He is credited as the first true economist. He had never taught nor took a class in economics. In his book The Wealth of Nations Smith alludes to the idea that self interest motives allows a nation to prosper entirely. He believed that the world s population will increase faster than the production of food. The human race, he believed, would starve and there would be periods of chaos. Malthus said that the population increases at an exponential rate, nearly doubling amount. There is no way food growth would be able to catch up with population growth. Malthus solution was War, Famine, and Plagues . He believed that was the only way to decrease population and hopefully salvage the human race. These events would increase death rates liberating the world of disaster. Malthus tried to persuade lower classes form creating children and from marriage. At that time the lower classes were considered to be given higher wages, which would increase the makings of children and marriages. Thomas Malthus pleaded with everyone to make a change in order to decrease population. David Ricardo agreed with both the ideas of Malthus and Smith. Ricardo strongly argued for free trade. He speaks directly of battlefront in the first octet and then includes the home front in the second half of his sonnet. Owen s purpose is not a commemoration of fallen soldiers. Introduction In this report, I will be explaining two surface features which are visually interesting to geologists and tourists in the Taupo Volcanic Zone (TVZ), Lake Taupo, and Mt Ruapehu. Lake Taupo is a main tourist attraction as it is the largest lake in New Zealand with a beautiful scenery perfect for activities like recreational fishing and sky diving. Furthermore, it generates electrical energy via the Waikato river that is used by people all around waikato. Mt Ruapehu is also a tourist attraction as the highest peak on the North Island with two major ski fields and only glaciers on its slopes. Creation Believe it or not, both surface features are active volcanoes. Lake Taupo a caldera, and Mt Ruapehu a stratovolcano. These volcanoes were formed because TVZ is a convergent plate boundary where the Pacific (Oceanic) plate which is more dense ,is getting subducted under the Australian (Continental) crust which is less dense. This is being driven by a force called convection which happens in the asthenosphere which is fluid. It is when the fluid near the core heats up, and rises due to it s low density compared to the surrounding fluid. This fluid then cools down and sinks due to it s high density compared to the surrounding fluid. It therefore gets near to the core again and so, repeats the cycle. The direction of the convection can cause plate boundaries opposite and away from each other will result in divergent plate boundaries and opposite but towards each ... • 45. The s Theory Of Knowledge As human beings, we have the natural propensity to acquire knowledge from our evolving environment, through different ways of knowing such as perception, reason, emotion and language. Knowledge can be defined as information acquired from experience or education or the awareness of a situation. Thus, denoting experience, education and awareness as the roots of knowledge. Consequently, if a knower is not able to experience an event or be educated, the concept of knowledge may cease to exist. Therefore, in order for a knower to experience an event, they must acknowledge their individual perspective of the event, to ascertain the extent in which the knowledge presented to them is beneficial or irrelevant. To address the titular statement, one must acknowledge what is meant by the Knower s perspective . The knower s perspective can be defined as a series of events enforced on an individual that causes them to perceive animate, inanimate objects and knowledge claims with a certain unique viewpoint. Thus, this essay aims to explore the knowledge question: To what extent is the knower s (individuals) perspective important in acquiring knowledge ? The knower s perspective can be manipulated by numerous factors such as indigenous knowledge, shaping their perspective to a more shared viewpoint. This is significant as it highlights how the knower s perspective could be considered convoluted, due to the factors that make it a universal perspective, therefore, making the knower s ... • 57. Influence Of Reading And Writing Reading and Writing affects me Reading and writing is not something I really enjoyed too much growing up. After all, a kid who can barely speak English may not enjoy something like grammar or fall behind others on a reading level. Growing up, reading and society have not really mixed well in my view. When I was a kid, I would read for fun and for educational purposes, and the society around me would be saying that the higher you can read the better. In middle school, I started to not read for amusement, but more for education. Finally, in high school, being forced to read felt like annoying, busy work. Honestly, I do not have a deep story of how reading has greatly affected me in my more recent years, but I know that reading created a big image of how the world could or should be today. Reading and writing has had positive influences on how I act in the real world, but society has been a negative impact towards reading and writing for most of my years, but not all of them. Reading has never been a strong point for me, but if I go back to my elementary years society helped boost my will to read. When I was in the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class, I was at such a low reading level that I could not read any of the books the other kids in my regular classes were reading in class. Society in elementary school said that being able to read at a high level makes you cool, so without a doubt I wanted to fit in with everyone else and read with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
