African Americans And Identity Of African American
In the year of 1619, the largest oppressive legal structure in American History came about, the
institution of slavery. Although slavery was abolished in the year of 1865, African Americans are
still enslaved by intuitional racism. There are systems in place to keep minorities at a
disadvantage. This system of oppression is carried by a number of factors such as; the segregation
of black peoplein urban areas referred to as ghettos, mass incarceration rate for people of color,
large educational gaps and killing of innocent lives with no justice. This system of oppression
continues the frustrating living conditions for black people, and continues to make being black in
America a constant struggle. Culture impacts circumstance and circumstance influences identity
which can be either beneficial or detrimental. Ones overcoming of their circumstance will lead
them to be identified as a conqueror. This can be detrimental because it gives an incorrect scope of
ones true identity. The focus of this paper will be on the lives and identity of African American
. In
todays society what does it mean to be black? To be identified as African American. What does it
mean to be black in America? How does culture impact circumstance and influence identity? In
order to understand and answer these questions one must go back to the early 16th century when
the first African slaves were bought to America.
In 1619, the Dutch introduced the first captured Africans to America planting the seeds of a

Descriptive Essay About Rock
One fine, beautiful morning, just as the Sun was rising, Steven hopped out of bed, and went
directly to the place he always goes. The Sunset Beach. Everything was great, but then, his day,
no, his life took a very unexpected turn. Steven is a twenty five year old man. He had lived with
his parents for the majority of his life, but had just moved out within the past year. He has dark
brown eyes, and dusty blonde hair. He is about five six, which is a little short for his age, but it
doesn t bother him all that much. In his spare time, he likes to participate in many city activities, or
turn to one of his hobbies. One hobby that he particularly enjoys is collecting rocks.
Every morning when he goes to Sunset Beach, he brings back about a dozen rock friends, just like
he did this morning. As Steven was walking, he found a beautiful, shiny, bright green Petoskey
Stone. He did not have one in his collection, so he decided to take it home with him. Little did he
know that in a few hours , this rock would change his life forever. Legend says, that whoever
holds the magical Petoskey Stone takes a very unexpected trip everyday at noon. This trip starts
their life everyday, and then one day ends it in a heartbeat. This rock fast forwards through the life
of the person that has possession of it, and continues to until one day it thinks they have lived long
enough, and they die. The scary part is, they never know which day they will be gone forever.
Eventually, Steven arrived

The Concept Of E Learning Inclusion Into An Education Essay
The Concept of e learning inclusion into an education begins with the teacher and the manner in
which they teach. A simple explanation of the view is that the teacher is the final authority and
source of knowledge. The problem for many teachers is transition of teaching in manner than
accommodate the use of technology. Mining how they have previously been teaching with the use
of technology which gives birth to e learning. In e learning, Technology is simply a mean that
teachers may use in different ways in the new environment than can affect students and results.A
teacher mulls to make use of technology needs to think how it may give a solution a problem of
teaching they have within their learning environment. To overcome this problem in teaching use of
e readers could be the best way. It also overcomes the problem to a lack of textbooks. Another way
could be helping students understand new ideas and concepts with the help e learning platform.
Many service organizations in society have used internet technology effectively to improve the

The Gift of the Magi Argument Paper
The Gift of the Magi Argumentative Research Paper: Did Jim and Della perform an act of Selfless
Love?
Abstract
The story was written by O Henry in 1906. The story was centered around a seemingly poor couple
who did not have enough money to buy each other the gifts that their significant other deserved.
The story took place during Christmas. The Gift of the Magi is like a classic wisdom story in the
bible. O Henrys choice of title depicts symbolism between the three magi that brought gold,
frankincense, and mur, to the baby Jesus and the gifts that Jim and Della had given to each other
which mainly consisted of selfless love, Della s hair and Jims pocket watch. This itself ties into the
theme of his story. These gifts all entail the act... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leads to her idea of selling her most prized possession: her hair, to get Jim his present.
Meanwhile, Jim decides to sell his most prized possession which was a pocket watch that was
passed down from his grandfather to his father and then to him. He sells that watch and buys Della
a set of beautiful tortoise shell combs for her hair. Thus leading to the use of situational irony in
which they both receive gifts for something they gave up in order to give the other a gift.
Jim and Della perform an act of selfless love by their willingness to give something that held
great value to them in order to get special presents for each other on Christmas. They do all of
this out of love for the other. However, you will see that these gives prove to end up having no
use in the end but that is not the main point. The main point is that although this ironic situation
occurs, they both find joy in the thought that they would do this for each other. This love that
they have for each other is far greater value than any gift that could be given. Jim doesn t
overreact or get angry with this conclusion. Rather, he tells Stella, Let s put our Christmas Present
away and keep em a while. They re too nice to use just at present. Although they no longer had use
for their gifts the mere fact that they would such a selfless act of love was more rewarding than
any other gift. This in itself is wise. Another point to stress in that this willingness to be

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1Background
Scheduling is an important tool in manufacturing and engineering, where it can have a major
impact on the productivity of a process (Min et al., 2009). In real production floor, scheduling is a
continuously reactive process which face suddenly or unexpected any new events. In
manufacturing, the production mostly relate to the processing time, costs and quality. Scheduling
plays important role in raising the efficiency of any production system.
Nowadays, many approaches have been developed to resolve the real time events problem.

Tractor Poem Analysis
The poem Tractor is written by Ted Hughes is literally about a tractor. The season is winter and
the man is trying to start the tractor but is unable to do so because of the weather. Eventually, the
man is able to start the tractor. However, while reading it further, this poem seems to be telling us
that with determination, man can overcome many problems no matter how tough the problem is,
using nature as a form of trouble to humans. Moreover, it also tells us that the journey to solving
the problem is difficult. This poem is in nine stanzas, where the first four stanzas describe the
process of starting up the tractor while the last five stanzas, describe how the tractor finally starts
up and rejoices. The poet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, we can see that the poet has created negative impressions of anger and disappointment
through the use of the first person narrative point of view, while the persona is still determined to
start it up.
Next, I would be talking about the use of imagery to create impressions of success. Firstly, the poet
uses the simile like a demon that demonstrates a more than usually complete materialization . This
simile compares the characteristic of materialization to the starting of the tractor, where the phrase
more than usually complete emphasizes that the effort taken to start the tractor was immense and
tremendously difficult such that the ignition of the tractor s engine is more than usually complete ,
displaying the impressions of success. Furthermore, the poet uses the personification levers awake
imprisoned deadweight , where the word awake is used to cause someone to get up from sleep.
This word tells us that the tractor is awaken after a deep sleep, and that shows us that the persona is
successful in awaking the tractor. Additionally, the word imprisoned suggests that that the tractor
was locked away, but is now freed from imprisonment, suggesting triumph and victory in starting
the tractor. Hence, we can see that poet uses imagery to create impressions of success and victory.
Also, I will be discussing the use of contrast in the poem. The

Hsbc Swot Analysis
Here are the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of HSBC, The World s Local
Bank.
Strengths
*International Finance.

aspects of international business. With offices around the world, for the cosmopolitan client,
HSBC often cannot be beaten in this area. HSBC knows how to succeed in M A and organic and
effective growth it was mostly an Asian bank until it took over a UK bank in 1992 and now has
become the world s second largest bank by profit.

This is where it is growing the most. By investing in these countries, HSBC can offset problems it
may have as spending in the US and UK declines.
Threats
*Downturn in American spending.
As interest rates rise and the housing boom ends, Americans are predicted to rely less on
consumer credit and more on their saving skills to get by. The drop in American spending will be
bad for the global economy as a whole, and HSBC will certainly be affected. In
2005, HSBC pretax profits rose 5% to $10.64bn ( 6bn) for the first six months of the year, largely
on the rise in consumer finance for growing consumer spending.
*Employees striking.
Last year, British employees held a strike involving 1,500 workers at
HSBC branches in London. At its annual meeting, striking workers stood outside, handing out bags
of nuts and saying that they are paid
peanuts while HSBC experiences record profits. Strikes such as this, especially in union conscious
Europe, are bad for image reasons and HSBC needs to take action to ensure that its workers are
happy just as its customers are.
*Email viruses.
Last year, HSBC Group s CEO announced that HSBC received tens of thousands of email viruses
a day and must spend great amounts of money to prevent these from causing systemwide damage.
As most banking is done on computers, even one virus could cripple HSBC. On their

Gender Roles In Argentine Tango And The Music Of Native...
There are hundreds, even thousands of styles music and each style from each place has its own
set of beliefs and traditions. A common tradition and theme in music is the role of men and
women and how each gender is perceived or included in a tradition. Tango is an example of this;
men are supposed to be a strong, masculine, even virile figure who lead the effeminate, submissive
female partner. Another example of genderroles in musicis in the musics of Native Americans and
First Nation people where traditionally only men were able to play the drums in the middle of the
circle at large gatherings such as powwows. There are several other instances our class discussed
in which gender roles helped define a musical tradition, but this short essay will focus primarily on
gender roles within the Argentine tango and the music of Native Americans and First Nation people.

dance style of tango is supposed to display traditional gender roles of men and women and the
man in the dance is typically leading the women who is supposedly in need of a strong man and
is dressed in a way to exhibit her natural sexuality. The idea of a male within tango has shifted
somewhat due to Carlos Gardel who helped spread tango globally in the early 21st century.

The War On Drugs And Its Effects On Society
The War on Drugs is a deep rooted controversial campaign of prohibition and military aid that has
been disputed for many years. There are constant debates as to whether there will ever be a viable
solution to the problem. However, as we continue to pursue the war on drugs, it has become
increasingly evident that winning the war seems to be an impossible task. Drugprohibitionand the
undertaking of the war on drugs have stirred much controversy over its moral and logical
implications. While there are many drugs that exist that are unhealthy when abused, it has
become apparent that the drug policies in the United States, as well as many parts of the world,
are inconsistent and oppressive. Ironically, drug laws were initially created for the good of
society, but it has become increasingly clear that drug laws and our undertaking of the drug war
have only served to cause problems. The current war on drugs has led to devastating effects on
society both economically and socially. Violence and corruption have subjugated throughout the
United States, Mexico and many other parts of the world. Additionally, drug prohibition efforts
have had very little impact on the supply of illegal drugs and have had little to no success in
reducing the demand for illegal drugs. The war on drugs, which is fueled by corruption and
propaganda, needs to come to an end for the betterment of society. Drug prohibition has not always
been accepted in society as it is today. In fact, there

Linda Loman s Life
Is it possible that human aspirations can kill a person? The author, Arthur Miller, alive during the
end of the Great Depression, uses this setting and the difficulties a family may face to become the
framework for his play, Death of a Salesman . Set during the post war era, he writes about a father
who strives to achieve the American Dream of financial success and his family that does not have
his same aspirations. Miller creates these characters with striking and relatable human qualities. In
the tragic stage play, Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller creates Willy Loman as the most
compassionate and sacrificing character, Linda Loman as the strong link holding the family
together, and Biff Loman as the individual most in touch with reality.... Show more content on

Arthur Miller uses Biff as the truth teller as he, take that phony dream and burn it before
something happens (Miller 1706). Biff views life s success as happy and being content rather
than focusing on unreachable wealth. Biff realizes that he is never going to be successful and
wishes to be released from his father s far fetched dreams. Realizing that despite everything he
has done, Biff is unable to make his father happy. He has a dream of working on a ranch, which
shows that he is reasonable and due to his past physical abilities would be a very plausible dream.
Biff further recognizes his father s detachment from reality as he states, We never told the truth for
ten minutes in this house (Miller 1708). At this point in the tragedy, he is trying to show his father
and his brother that they have been lying to each other. Biff tries to teach his father that facing
reality doesn t mean failure. Genuine and realistic expectations are sufficient as admirable goals.
The Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, uses characters such as Willy Loman, Linda Loman, and
Biff Loman to represent sacrifice, honor, and a sense of reality. Throughout the play, these concepts
are developed through these characters and relationships, which have an impact on the outcome of
the story. The interactions of these characters, promotes self awareness and understanding of one s
limitations. The

Enzymes play a remarkably important role in biological systems. Nearly all reactions in living
organisms are catalyzed by enzymes, a large majority of which have been found to be proteins. The
mechanisms by which enzymes function are varied, but all mechanisms lower the transition state
free energy where the free energy barrier of a reaction is the highest. Thus, an enzymatically
catalyzed reaction proceeds at a significantly increased rate than that of an unanalyzed reaction.
Even though the mechanism of enzymes can be reduced to such a basic idea, it is important to note

Pros And Cons Of Understanding Human Rights
1.1.1Understanding Human Rights
Human rights are considered as universal, inalienable, interdependent and indivisible Thus, Human
rights are inherent entitlements that belong to every person as a consequence of being human
(ULAED extracted XXXXX). They are expressed in treaties and other sources of law at the
national, regional and international levels (NGLS 2008). A series of international human rights
treaties and other instruments adopted since 1945 have conferred legal form on inherent human
rights and developed the body of international human rights.
States Parties have specific obligations to respect, protect and fulfill the rights contained in the
conventions (UNDP 2005). Failure to uphold obligations and duties create violation of IHRL and
IHL. Such violation requires remedy, particularly the legal one.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights article eight provides that the competent court of the
State is entitled to an effective remedy for violations of the fundamental rights conferred by the
Constitution or the law (UDHR 1948). Likewise, article two of the International Covenant on Civil
and Political Rights 1966 ensures that any person claiming such a remedy is entitled to be provided

The Tokyo Railway Station Building
The Tokyo railway station building is located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan in the Marunouchi business
district. The station which acts as Tokyo s main intercity terminal is served by the Tokyo Metro
network, Japan Railways regional commuter lines as well as the Shinkansen high speed railway
lines. The Tokyo Station also has a reputation of being the busiest station in the country, judging by
the number of trains it serves per day; approximately three thousand trains in one day. Furthermore,
the trainstation has a hotel and gallery within its premises. In terms of architecture and historical
culture, the station actually has a long history that dates back more than a hundred years, thereby
making it one of the one of the few major examples of buildings designed in classical style
remaining in Tokyo, and Japan as a whole.
Chronicle information of the building Even though the Tokyo Station was constructed in 1914, its
actual plan is connected to the history of Japan s rail in the 1880s (Ito n.p). It is therefore viewed
by the Japanese as being significant in the advancement of rail technology and as a symbolic
structure within Japan. By 1885, several railway tracks were already passing through Tokyo,
thereby necessitating the need for a central terminal to be built in the region between Ueno and
Shinbashi. The station which was to accommodate Tokyo s entire network was simply referred to
as the central terminal (Ito n.p). The project for the Tokyo Station was first offered

Essay On The Cost Of College Education
The cost of college tuition is often seen as the drawback that causes high school graduates to
choose not to enroll into higher education. This is highly unfortunate because college education is
worth the cost. The cost may be unappealing, but there is assistance for the tuition fees, for
example, financial aid and student loans. It is worth the cost for high school graduates to go to
collegefor the reasons that it will allow for these young adults to gain an abiding profession that
can support them for the rest of their working lives after college, it will also provide them with
greater salaries than one would have with just a high school diploma, and ultimately it creates

Therefore, stopping at a high school diploma is not beneficial to anyone under this age. There is
on average seven years more of learning to do which is why college is provided as a higher
education to grow more knowledge. Ben Weider, wrote about how Peter Thiel, co founder of Pay
Pal, would pay 24 winners of his Thiel Fellowship $100,000 not to attend college for two years
and to develop business ideas instead. However, the outcome was that he realized that this route
would only be beneficial to a small fraction of students, because their level of education was not
as high as if they were straight out of college (Source E). This entails that with a vaster education
a person would be more knowledgeable for certain criteria. In Source F, the survey shows that
almost a half of the surveyers believe the main purpose of college education was to teach work
related skills and knowledge, and 39 percent said it was to help a student grow intellectually.
Now 74 percent said their college education was very useful in helping them grow intellectually,

I would like you to answer these following questions:
1. How old are you?
2. What part of the country are you from?
3. What is your monthly income, and your monthly outgoings?
4. What jobs do you parents hold?
5. What type of school did you go to?
6. How often do you buy a new outfit?
7. How much do you spend on new clothes?
8. Would you say ethical and environmental concerns are a priority to you?
These constitute only a very few of the questions that marketing executives are trying to discern
about you, in order to create the type of fashion retail brand that gets you hot under the collar and
itching to go shopping. Of course, you instinctively know that fashion retailers like Primark and
Gucci are a world apart (not counting the ironic title of Primani that has now been applied to our
most ubiquitous of high street retailers...). But do you know precisely who these companies are
targeting in an attempt to increase footfall through their doors? Are YOU a marketing goldmine for
fashion retailers?
Perhaps your answer to that last question is of course I am! More people means more money,
right? Not always. You might be surprised to find that many companies simply don t want you.
Take Gucci for example. Very early on in the game, Gucci decided that more people didn t mean
more money and engaged in a strong exercise in market segmentation. If all

The Mother Of Law Asks The Daughter
In part 6, the mother in law asks, has Nature shown/ her household books to you, daughter in law,
/ that her sons never saw? (Rich 67 69). The tone is argumentative and almost confrontational,
but as we look deeper, the older woman seems also to encourage the younger woman to pursue
the idea of creating her own life outside of her marriage. She seems to be saying, it may be too
late for me to create my own identity separate from my husband, but not yet for you. The mother
in law asks the daughter in law if there is a side to her that her husband has not seen, hinting to the
idea that the daughter in law should keep her own identity rather than exposing every part of
herself to her husband. Rich is addressing the fact that women were not expected to achieve
anything besides marrying and having a family, the typical 1950 s stereotypethat many women
abided by. But in this stanza, the Mother In Law is almost hinting that the Daughter In Law still
has time to break away from this stereotype and create her own life and her own identity apart
from her husband, an idea that would have been highly rejected during the post war, baby boom
era. Towards the end of the poem, Rich writes the two lines, only 7 words that truly represent her
tone and point in Snapshots of a Daughter In Law : Sigh no more, ladies./Time is male (Rich 93
94). Rich is accepting one of the most obvious aspects of the 1950 s when she writes time is male,
meaning that time, as such a vast and consuming

College Dropouts Essay
Many high school students succeed with a little leniency through their four years. The transfer from
high school to college becomes overwhelming and a struggle for some. For students do not
comprehend the importance of changing more than their location during the transition. A student
must be psychologically, physically, and emotionally mature to pursue collegeand not venture into a
point of no return. Dropping out of college makes the outlook of the conversion difficult to acquire.
Individuals should take their time on deciding which college and/or university is the best match for
them. There are various reasons that cause persons not to prosper. Issues that individuals may come

Often students take high school for granted; consequently it shows when they reach college. For
example, in high school, teachers may accept late work, tardiness, and continuous inappropriate
behavior. The college classes that they will have to face will not tolerate such things as this.
Preparing for the work load and lifestyle is the two most important objectives to grasp early.
Furthermore, many people want to progress in their work, some simply want to gain in depth
education on the particular field they want to achieve. However, individual s bosses do not
always understand. Having a job while in college is a huge demand. Depending on whether
students have families or not will put them in a tight position. Ultimately the demand for both
will result in them dropping out of college. Mark Kantrowitz says, Many students who drop out
of college has to work while enrolled in college (Why Do Students Drop out of College
Kantrowitz). He follows up by saying that they often find it very difficult to support themselves
and their families and go to college at the same time (Why Do Students Drop out of College
Kantrowitz). In most homes, one s family always comes first no matter what. For example, the
desired accomplishments of the mother are not greater than the needs of her children. School work
and the work one puts into he/she s job alone are hard to manage. Having to

Write An Essay On Genotypes And Phenotypes
There are no two individuals that are completely alike, people vary by hair color, height, skin
tone, gender and other endless possibilities. The reason for these variations can be traced back to
our genetic make up. A person as 23 pairs of chromosomes and each of these chromosomes carry
one molecule of DNA. DNA itself is made up of adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine, then,
these chemical compounds wrap around each other to form a double helix. These chromosomes
contain around 20,500 genes and even with such a large number our variations are caused by less
than 1% of our genes according to the Human Genomes Project in 2003. These variations also
come from genotypes and phenotypes. A genotype is the complete set of genes that make a person
s hereditary, whereas, a phenotype are psychological, behavioral, and psychological features that
result from the interaction between genes and the environment. Phenotypes can be both dominant
and recessive. The dominant phenotype is the one that the you possess whereas the recessive one
is there but it is not active. One of my phenotypes is that I have red green color blindness. I often

Essay about Captain Edith Strong
Captain Edith Strong
In today s society the employees need to feel appreciated as well as motivated to do his or her
everyday job successfully. To run a successful business or police department, the workers must
feel as if he or she is satisfied with the results of his or her hard work as well as appreciated for
everything he or she has done. If the workers and the officers do not get the praise needed and
the proper treatment at work he or she would not want to come to work or would feel as if he or
she does not have to do much for the organization because nothing is giving back in return.

By cutting corners certain evidence or information could get lost as well as skipped and could
cause an innocent individual his or her freedom. Therefore, to make sure that all of the evidence in
gathered and every information is put into place the police officers must not feel rush and must
take his or her time to go study the reports and file his or her paperwork.
Motivational strategies
Motivational strategies that Captain Strong should consider is listening to what the officers have to
say and taking his or her needs into consideration. For example patrol officer in the department
works solo, and departmental police prohibits more than two officer eating meals or taking
coffee breaks at the same time in the same restaurant (More, Vito, amp; Walsh, 2012). Instead of
having the officer s work by his or her selves he or she should be paired off with someone this way
a friendship can build as well as morale s. By letting the officers take lunch together would give
each the chance to relax and calm down after a hard morning of work.
E.R.G. Theory
Concerning E.R.G theory (Existence, Relatedness, and Growth Needs) it is applicable in this case
(More, Vito, amp; Walsh, 2012). With existence needs the patrol officers are overworked with
paperwork and do not have enough time to fully investigate certain incidents. When the officers
become overworked, he or she would not want to come to work and would have the energy to do

Despite all the good changes that the ROWE program generated, stress is still apparent. Change

How Did The Greeks Influence Today s Civilization
Greece had a big part in Europe s civilization. The Minoans were the first civilization to live in
Europe. The Minoans lived on a island called Crete, which is part of Greece now. According to a
legend, there was a man named Aegeus and he had thought that his son, Theasus, had just been
eaten by the Minotaur, the Minotaur was half bull and half human, but he had not. Aegeus
jumped off the edge of a cliff and died in an ocean which is now called the Agean Sea. The
Greeks gave lots more names of places to us. After the Minoans camed the Myceneans. The
Myceneans tried to be as good as they Minoans were but, they couldn t beat them. Around 1100
BC the Greeks entered a stage called the Dark Age. They coudln t read, write, or have any other

The H. scobina pries open barnacle plates then uses its proboscis to feed on the organism inside. It
can also feed on mussels, oysters and other molluscs by drilling through their skulls with its radula.
The largest abiotic factors the H. scobina faces is the wind currents and exposure to air, so it has
developed the following adaptations to help it survive:
The H. scobina has the structural adaptation of a strong muscular foot to open up plated organisms,
this helps it feed in this environment as well as keeping it surfaced while large wind and ocean
currents try and push it along. Another structural adaptation is its tough, waterproof outer shell that

Global Economic Meltdown Of 2008
To establish effective policies in order to enhance ethics in corporate America and prevent
significant catastrophes such as the global economic meltdown of 2008 we need to propose new
ethical policies and standards in our corporate system. Ethical issues must be on the strategic
agenda! Integrity management should be a priority not only because it is legally required, but
because it is the right thing to do. This memorandum will analyze the proposed ethical policies such
as strengthening auditors independence and strengthening auditcommittee to make reforms in
existing corporate sector.
Strengthening business ethics by improving audit quality
One of the most important factors that plays a huge role in the success of a company is ethics,
which can have long term impact on the company. It does not matter how high the company s
profitability level is, if there is unethical behavior or a lack of corporate social responsibility it will
eventually damage company s reputation and make it less appealing to stakeholders.
The last global economic crisis that cost the world trillions of dollars, a continued recession,
millions of lost jobs, a huge loss of confidence in financial markets and a reversal in our efforts to
cure global poverty was result of the combination of several leading factors; and the failure of
business ethics was one of these factors that strongly contributed to this global financial turmoil.
It is proven that during economic recession many companies

The Victorian Era Exposed In Dracula By Bram Stoker
The Victorian Era is regarded as very impactful time in terms of literature. It incorporated the
elements of Gothic principles such as isolation, fascination of the past, and decay. All of the listed
characteristics appear in the infamous novel Dracula and play a significant role in how the book is
transcribed. But perhaps the most significant attribute would be the concept of othering or
foreigners. In Bram Stokers Dracula, Stoker provides a thorough perspective in to the British fear of
the other. He utilizes the main character, Dracula, to convey how society portrays foreigners or
immigrants as aggressors. Dracula highlights the British fear of the other and all that is foreign. He
comes from somewhere other than England, Transylvania, to symbolize his exclusion from society
and to represent his status as an immigrant. Dracula also does not have anything in common with
the Transylvanian citizens. They also express a great deal of superstition about Dracula when
Jonathan Harker arrives. When I asked him if he knew Count Dracula, and could tell me anything
of his castle, both he and his wife crossed themselves, and, saying that they knew nothing at all,

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Frankenstein: The Individual and Society
The creature s ambiguous humanity has long puzzled readers of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. In
this essay I will focus on how Frankenstein can be used to explore two philosophical topics, social
contract theory, and gender roles, in light of ideas from Shelley s two philosophical parents,
William Godwin, and Mary Wollstonecraft.
What Does it Mean to be Human? Individual and Society
One historically important tradition in social and political philosophy is called Social Contract
Theory. It gives a way of thinking about what it means to be human, raising fundamental questions
such as: what is human nature, in itself, apart from society? Are people fundamentally ... Show more

Mary Shelley s father, William Godwin (1756 1836), was a well known political anarchist. In
Enquiry Concerning Political Justice (1793), Godwin argued that government is fundamentally
unjust, and functions primarily to uphold economic inequality between rich and poor. Godwin was
highly critical of social contract theory; the conversation between Victor and the creature
regarding a mate exemplifies several of Godwin s criticisms (pp. 97 100). We could read this
passage as a social contract between Victor and the creature: if Victor makes a mate, the creature
promises never to return. Godwin asked why parties to the social contract should trust each other
to keep their promises; Victor agrees to the bargain, but didn t trust the creature to keep his
promise, predicting he would return in revenge. Their bargain sounds more like blackmail than a
contractual arrangement. Godwin also worried about future generations who were not parties to
the original agreement, and had never promised to abide by a government s laws. Victor was
concerned about this; realizing that even if the creature kept his end of the agreement, the female
had made no such promise. He had sworn to quit the neighborhood of man, and hide himself in
deserts; but she had not; and she, who in all probability was to become a thinking and reasoning
animal, might refuse to comply with a compact made before her creation (114).

Similarities Between Middle Ages And Renaissance
The end of the Middle Ages and beginning of the Renaissance brought many shifts to European
societal structure. The face of Christianity changed considerably from the fourteenth century to the
mid sixteenth century, beginning with disagreement over who should hold absolute power, the
Pope or the Holy Roman Emperor. While the corporate Catholic church had once maintained a
fairly unified influence on society, a more nuanced form of Christianitybegan developing, leading to
reformed religious groups with opposing views, namely the Protestants and Anglicans. In the wake
of differing opinions, people s group identification mattered significantly, determining what people
they sided with and who they couldn t tolerate. With more complex religious and political
perspectives came more opportunities for people to distance themselves from peers, family, and
leaders ideologically. Frequent mentions of treacherous actions within the literature of this time
demonstrates that these differing views made people feel betrayed by their associates. The idea of
betrayal is prominent in the lives and texts of several authors of this period, including Dante,
Thomas More, and NiccolГІ Machiavelli. From a Christian perspective, betrayal was a grave sin
befitting serious punishment, while it was irrational from a Humanist perspective and an inevitable,
even beneficial part of mankind from an amoral perspective. During the tumultuous political and

Education Act 1996 Case Study
1.1.8The Education Act 1996 Education Act 1996 places a legal duty on the parent or guardian
of a child aged five to sixteen years (known as compulsory school age), to ensure that their
children or child attends and receives full time education, either in a traditional school or any
other means that is appropriate for their age, ability, and aptitude, taking into account any special
needs they may have. The Act makes it a criminal offense for a parent or guardian to take their
child out of school without authorisation from the school, and an offense for parents who are
aware that their child is failing to attend school to not take reasonable action to ensure that the
child attends. The offense of failing to ensure regular attendance at school is punishable by up
to three months imprisonment and/or fine up to one thousand pounds. 1 Where a child is not
attending school regularly, the Local Education Authority (LEA) has the option of taking
criminal or civil action against the parent or guardian. It may then decide to mount a prosecution
for breach of s 444 of the 1996 Act, just as it can for breach of s 443. Before the 1989 Children Act,
the LEA was obliged to consider whether it was appropriate to bring care proceedings based on
truancy and failure by the parent or guardian. A review by DHSS reasoned that care proceedings
were inappropriate where the problem was the child s absenteeism. Where the child s absences
were part of the wider family problem and the child

Indian Colonies Under British Rule
Colonies under European rule manifested in two main forms: extractive colonies that were a way
for colonisers to both access a new market and extract resources as they saw fit and civilising
missions that attempted to bring Western norms and values to indigenous people under the guise
of religion alongside a notion of local culture being savage. At times there were also conflicts
between colonising powers over territory that would consequently be transferred from one to the
other. India was once part of the British Empire and despite being a thriving nation today, it has had

Marriage in Britain was a largely independent affari compared to India where, once married, the
wife would proceed to live with her husband and his family. The consequence of changes to
inheritance law was that, while in Britain a widow s choice was to either keep the meager
inheritance she got and enjoy her independence or remarry and share the money with her new
husband, in India things got far more complicated because of deep seated notions of marriage
and widowhood that hinged on unequivocally Indian norms, values and culture. If a woman were
to receive money under the change in law there would be significant resentment from her late
husband s family. The widow had a high chance of still living with his family resulting in a
cloistered but not sheltered existence. Sexuality and autonomy were often controlled by the
families based on notions of female sexuality and as a way of preserving caste and offspring.
Despite this Indian women were often sexually active, although more often than not, there was a
lack of consent. Moreover, remarriage was not a viable option for most widows as the deeply
rooted Hinduism in India promoted notions of ascetic widowhood . Thus slowly, almost as a
reaction to the British hijacking on Indian culture and law, customary laws began to be replaced by

the Parliament of the United Kingdom, Great Britain, and Ireland, who congregate in the palace
Westminster) and was on the road to being the prime minister but was not able to carry out the idea
because of his own miscalculations and ended his political career shortly after.
Jennie Jerome Churchill born January 9, 1854 in New York came from a well to do family herself
and was a very large social figure in London at the time of her husband s political career (Randolph)

Winston Churchill spent most of his childhood in Dublin, Ireland, raised primarily by his nanny
(a custom of the times) Ms. Elizabeth Ann Everest. Elizabeth was a great role model and mother
figure in Winston s childhood and later he showed his immense love for her in his book My
Early Years (1930) stating She had lived such an innocent and loving life of service to others and
held such a simple faith, that she had no fears at all, and did not seem to mind very much. She
had been my dearest and most intimate friend during the whole of the twenty years I had lived.
Elizabeth s great influences on him did not carry into his school life though and Winston proved
to be a very rebellious but clearly clever student, and in 1888 his family decided (after his lack of
accomplishments in his first two schools) that he must attend Harrow a private boarding school
near London. When he first entered the school with very low exam scores,it effectively placed
him at the bottom of his class, a low blow to his own pride as well as his father s. It

NIBIN And IAFIS Research Paper
The NIBIN, IAFIS, and CODIS are all databases that the forensic scientists use. Each of these are
different and unique in their own way. For example the NIBIN stands for the National Integrated
Ballistic Information Network while the IAFIS stands for the Integrated Automated Fingerprint
Identification System. Lastly the CODIS stands for the Combined DNA Index System. All of these
are different and help forensic scientist study crime scenes or individuals to access and try to put
an end to specific crimes or stop individuals. While they work with something different such as
DNA, fingerprints, or firearms they all work together to stop crime.
Firstly, the NIBIN which stands for the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network is a

They use this information to put it into the NDIS, or the National DNA Index System, which is
the collective database of people s DNA in the US. The FBI uses this database to match DNA
that they find at a crime scene to a person who they will be able to bring into custody to question.
If it was a rapping case, they would be able to collect DNA and match it to the person who
committed the crime and bring them into custody. This system came about when DNA started
to be prevalent in putting criminals away. They used the database to store information about
every person so that if a crime is done they will be able to easily find them and bring them in.
They can also use this information to try and help find people from the National Missing Persons
DNA Database. It began in 1990 and was legitamized by the DNA Identification Act of 1994. The
team is constructed of a program manager, forensic system program manager, a biologist, an
auditor, a management and program analysts, and a paralegal specialist. All of these people work
together to make the CODIS

Essay On Boron On Semen Quality
to boron on semen quality was conducted on boars. Supplemental dietary boron enhanced sperm
velocity characteristics and possibly normal morphology without influencing other measures of
sperm production and semen quality (Korkmaz et al., 2011). The boron group s abstinence time
was found to be longer than that of the control group (Naghii and Saman, 1997a). Korkmaz et al.,
(2011) diagnosed oligozoospermia for one of the first two semen samples while the other had a
diagnosis of asthenozoospermia; both cases were accompanied by varicocele. These findings
indicate that for both the boronand control groups, exposure to boron does not play any significant
role in the cases of incompatibility with the normal semen profile. Korkmaz et al.,... Show more

Boron added to the extender had no negative effect on the post thaw motility values and also
increases progressive motility. With respect to all the extenders spermatozoa motility values being
higher than the control group, it can be concluded that this could have positive effects on fertility
(Tirpan and Tekin, 2015). Sodium pentaborate may have provided intracellular energy
requirements especially in freezing and thawing processes. The high motility ratios without the
usage of glucose, which plays an important role in the foreseen energy mechanisms, give rise to
the thought that boron may be used as an energy source for post thaw process. Boron added to the
extender had no negative effect on the post thaw motility values and increases progressive motility.
It can be concluded that different amounts of sodium pentaborate added to the extenders have a
positive effect on semen s fertility ability. In the researchers conducted on humans (Turkez et al.,
2007) and rats (Ince et al., 2010) it was notified that boron element reduces lipid peroxidation and
thus has an antioxidative effect. Similar to these studies, when the data from the moderate boron
extenders are considered it can be detected that the lowest dead spermatozoa ratio (Tirpan and
Tekin, 2015). The positive effects of boron mineral on antioxidative, Na/K pump or

How God Became King Summary
Book Review
N.T. Wright releases How God Became King: The Forgotten Story of the Gospels with the
affirmation that the church has come to emphasis almost exclusively on Jesus birth, death and
resurrection. Although, the gospels devote the majority of their time on Jesus life. Jesus s life,
death, resurrection and rise did not hint the end of the old Israel story, but redirected it further to a
worldwide effort of adaptation. Wright addresses several New Testament documented interpreters
who present the gospels as simply the prognosis of early Christian faith, reflecting the disputes and
predicaments of the early church, something Wright calls a half truth . Wright argues that
notwithstanding the gospels countless differences, none of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The essential problem Wright identifies in the introduction can be documented most clearly in six
ordinary, but unsatisfactory responses often provided by the church to the query What are the
Gospels all about?, which are: 1) teaching people how to go to Heaven, 2) recording Jesus s
exclusive ethical teaching, 3) depicting Jesus as a moral prototype for the people, 4) exhibiting
Jesus as the perfect sacrifice, 5) telling stories with which humans can recognize and then find
direction, and 6) signifying Jesus s spirituality. While each of these answers contains a portion of
truth, Wright contends they all fail to hold the heart of the Gospel accounts. According to Wright,
the gospels tell of Jesus who embodied the living God of Israel and whose cross and resurrection
really did unveil and initiate the Kingdom of God. Wright then claims that the kingdom is apart of
a greater eschatological theology, which is concerned with what is believed to be the final events of
history, or the definitive destiny of humanity.
Robert Gundry presents a more critical review of N.T. Wright s How God Became King: The
Forgotten Story of the Gospels. During his public ministry, Jesus taught extensively in words and
deeds about the kingdom of God. In How God Became King, N.T. Wright

Pete Rose And The Hall Of Fame
My controversial topic is on Pete Rose and how he should be inducted into Baseball s Hall of
Fame. Pete Rose was a player that I looked up to when I was a young boy playing baseball. I was a
big fan of his collecting all of his baseball cards from rookie year up to the present time. Now, most
of the baseballcritics and others do not want Pete Rose inducted. They claim that his illegal betting
on baseball games should keep him out of the Hall of Fame.
Almost all of the highly questionable evidence that Commissioner Bart Giamatti held was
derived from former friends and associates of Rose. Up to $30,000 per day , so some of Roses
close friends say. These former friends of Rose are Tommy Gioiosa, Donald Stenger, Mike Fry,
and Paul Janszen. This evidence is what prompted the banishment from baseball of Pete Rose,
which he signed. The evidence was enough for the Commissioner. In 1989, baseball s
Commissioner Bart Giammati suspended Pete Rose from association with professional baseball
for life for gambling. Rose also spent five months in a minimum security prison for tax evasion in
1990. He did not report cash money he accepted for signing baseballs and photographs at baseball
card shows. It is still to this day not proven that Rose did bet on the baseball team that he was
managing. Rose himself still holds true to his statement that he never bet on the game of baseball.
Evidence is minimal and it has been over ten years, yet he is still ineligible to be voted into

Everything was great, but then, his day, no, his life took a very unexpected turn. Steven is a twenty five year old man. He had lived with his parents for the majority of his life, but had just moved out within the past year. He has dark brown eyes, and dusty blonde hair. He is about five six, which is a little short for his age, but it doesn t bother him all that much. In his spare time, he likes to participate in many city activities, or turn to one of his hobbies. One hobby that he particularly enjoys is collecting rocks. Every morning when he goes to Sunset Beach, he brings back about a dozen rock friends, just like he did this morning. As Steven was walking, he found a beautiful, shiny, bright green Petoskey Stone. He did not have one in his collection, so he decided to take it home with him. Little did he know that in a few hours , this rock would change his life forever. Legend says, that whoever holds the magical Petoskey Stone takes a very unexpected trip everyday at noon. • 8. The Gift of the Magi Argument Paper The Gift of the Magi Argumentative Research Paper: Did Jim and Della perform an act of Selfless Love? Abstract The story was written by O Henry in 1906. The story was centered around a seemingly poor couple who did not have enough money to buy each other the gifts that their significant other deserved. The story took place during Christmas. The Gift of the Magi is like a classic wisdom story in the bible. O Henrys choice of title depicts symbolism between the three magi that brought gold, frankincense, and mur, to the baby Jesus and the gifts that Jim and Della had given to each other which mainly consisted of selfless love, Della s hair and Jims pocket watch. This itself ties into the theme of his story. These gifts all entail the act... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to her idea of selling her most prized possession: her hair, to get Jim his present. Meanwhile, Jim decides to sell his most prized possession which was a pocket watch that was passed down from his grandfather to his father and then to him. He sells that watch and buys Della a set of beautiful tortoise shell combs for her hair. Thus leading to the use of situational irony in which they both receive gifts for something they gave up in order to give the other a gift. Jim and Della perform an act of selfless love by their willingness to give something that held great value to them in order to get special presents for each other on Christmas. They do all of this out of love for the other. However, you will see that these gives prove to end up having no use in the end but that is not the main point. The main point is that although this ironic situation occurs, they both find joy in the thought that they would do this for each other. This love that they have for each other is far greater value than any gift that could be given. Jim doesn t overreact or get angry with this conclusion. Rather, he tells Stella, Let s put our Christmas Present away and keep em a while. They re too nice to use just at present. Although they no longer had use for their gifts the mere fact that they would such a selfless act of love was more rewarding than any other gift. This in itself is wise. Hence, we can see that the poet has created negative impressions of anger and disappointment through the use of the first person narrative point of view, while the persona is still determined to start it up. Next, I would be talking about the use of imagery to create impressions of success. Firstly, the poet uses the simile like a demon that demonstrates a more than usually complete materialization . This simile compares the characteristic of materialization to the starting of the tractor, where the phrase more than usually complete emphasizes that the effort taken to start the tractor was immense and tremendously difficult such that the ignition of the tractor s engine is more than usually complete , displaying the impressions of success. Furthermore, the poet uses the personification levers awake imprisoned deadweight , where the word awake is used to cause someone to get up from sleep. This word tells us that the tractor is awaken after a deep sleep, and that shows us that the persona is successful in awaking the tractor. Additionally, the word imprisoned suggests that that the tractor was locked away, but is now freed from imprisonment, suggesting triumph and victory in starting the tractor. Hence, we can see that poet uses imagery to create impressions of success and victory. Also, I will be discussing the use of contrast in the poem. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tone is argumentative and almost confrontational, but as we look deeper, the older woman seems also to encourage the younger woman to pursue the idea of creating her own life outside of her marriage. She seems to be saying, it may be too late for me to create my own identity separate from my husband, but not yet for you. The mother in law asks the daughter in law if there is a side to her that her husband has not seen, hinting to the idea that the daughter in law should keep her own identity rather than exposing every part of herself to her husband. The reason for these variations can be traced back to our genetic make up. A person as 23 pairs of chromosomes and each of these chromosomes carry one molecule of DNA. DNA itself is made up of adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine, then, these chemical compounds wrap around each other to form a double helix. These chromosomes contain around 20,500 genes and even with such a large number our variations are caused by less than 1% of our genes according to the Human Genomes Project in 2003. These variations also come from genotypes and phenotypes. A genotype is the complete set of genes that make a person s hereditary, whereas, a phenotype are psychological, behavioral, and psychological features that result from the interaction between genes and the environment. Phenotypes can be both dominant and recessive. The dominant phenotype is the one that the you possess whereas the recessive one is there but it is not active. But perhaps the most significant attribute would be the concept of othering or foreigners. In Bram Stokers Dracula, Stoker provides a thorough perspective in to the British fear of the other. He utilizes the main character, Dracula, to convey how society portrays foreigners or immigrants as aggressors. Dracula highlights the British fear of the other and all that is foreign. He comes from somewhere other than England, Transylvania, to symbolize his exclusion from society and to represent his status as an immigrant. In Enquiry Concerning Political Justice (1793), Godwin argued that government is fundamentally unjust, and functions primarily to uphold economic inequality between rich and poor. Godwin was highly critical of social contract theory; the conversation between Victor and the creature regarding a mate exemplifies several of Godwin s criticisms (pp. 97 100). We could read this passage as a social contract between Victor and the creature: if Victor makes a mate, the creature promises never to return. Godwin asked why parties to the social contract should trust each other to keep their promises; Victor agrees to the bargain, but didn t trust the creature to keep his promise, predicting he would return in revenge. Their bargain sounds more like blackmail than a contractual arrangement. Godwin also worried about future generations who were not parties to the original agreement, and had never promised to abide by a government s laws. Victor was concerned about this; realizing that even if the creature kept his end of the agreement, the female had made no such promise. He had sworn to quit the neighborhood of man, and hide himself in deserts; but she had not; and she, who in all probability was to become a thinking and reasoning animal, might refuse to comply with a compact made before her creation (114). The face of Christianity changed considerably from the fourteenth century to the mid sixteenth century, beginning with disagreement over who should hold absolute power, the Pope or the Holy Roman Emperor. While the corporate Catholic church had once maintained a fairly unified influence on society, a more nuanced form of Christianitybegan developing, leading to reformed religious groups with opposing views, namely the Protestants and Anglicans. In the wake of differing opinions, people s group identification mattered significantly, determining what people they sided with and who they couldn t tolerate. With more complex religious and political perspectives came more opportunities for people to distance themselves from peers, family, and leaders ideologically. Frequent mentions of treacherous actions within the literature of this time demonstrates that these differing views made people feel betrayed by their associates. The idea of betrayal is prominent in the lives and texts of several authors of this period, including Dante, Thomas More, and NiccolГІ Machiavelli. If a woman were to receive money under the change in law there would be significant resentment from her late husband s family. The widow had a high chance of still living with his family resulting in a cloistered but not sheltered existence. The high motility ratios without the usage of glucose, which plays an important role in the foreseen energy mechanisms, give rise to the thought that boron may be used as an energy source for post thaw process. Boron added to the extender had no negative effect on the post thaw motility values and increases progressive motility. It can be concluded that different amounts of sodium pentaborate added to the extenders have a positive effect on semen s fertility ability. In the researchers conducted on humans (Turkez et al., 2007) and rats (Ince et al., 2010) it was notified that boron element reduces lipid peroxidation and thus has an antioxidative effect. Similar to these studies, when the data from the moderate boron extenders are considered it can be detected that the lowest dead spermatozoa ratio (Tirpan and Tekin, 2015). The positive effects of boron mineral on antioxidative, Na/K pump or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. How God Became King Summary Book Review N.T. Wright releases How God Became King: The Forgotten Story of the Gospels with the affirmation that the church has come to emphasis almost exclusively on Jesus birth, death and resurrection. Although, the gospels devote the majority of their time on Jesus life. Jesus s life, death, resurrection and rise did not hint the end of the old Israel story, but redirected it further to a worldwide effort of adaptation. Wright addresses several New Testament documented interpreters who present the gospels as simply the prognosis of early Christian faith, reflecting the disputes and predicaments of the early church, something Wright calls a half truth . Wright argues that notwithstanding the gospels countless differences, none of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The essential problem Wright identifies in the introduction can be documented most clearly in six ordinary, but unsatisfactory responses often provided by the church to the query What are the Gospels all about?, which are: 1) teaching people how to go to Heaven, 2) recording Jesus s exclusive ethical teaching, 3) depicting Jesus as a moral prototype for the people, 4) exhibiting Jesus as the perfect sacrifice, 5) telling stories with which humans can recognize and then find direction, and 6) signifying Jesus s spirituality. While each of these answers contains a portion of truth, Wright contends they all fail to hold the heart of the Gospel accounts. According to Wright, the gospels tell of Jesus who embodied the living God of Israel and whose cross and resurrection really did unveil and initiate the Kingdom of God. Wright then claims that the kingdom is apart of a greater eschatological theology, which is concerned with what is believed to be the final events of history, or the definitive destiny of humanity. Robert Gundry presents a more critical review of N.T. Wright s How God Became King: The Forgotten Story of the Gospels. During his public ministry, Jesus taught extensively in words and deeds about the kingdom of God. In How God Became King, N.T. Wright ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Pete Rose And The Hall Of Fame My controversial topic is on Pete Rose and how he should be inducted into Baseball s Hall of Fame. Pete Rose was a player that I looked up to when I was a young boy playing baseball. I was a big fan of his collecting all of his baseball cards from rookie year up to the present time. Now, most of the baseballcritics and others do not want Pete Rose inducted. They claim that his illegal betting on baseball games should keep him out of the Hall of Fame. Almost all of the highly questionable evidence that Commissioner Bart Giamatti held was derived from former friends and associates of Rose. Up to $30,000 per day , so some of Roses close friends say. These former friends of Rose are Tommy Gioiosa, Donald Stenger, Mike Fry, and Paul Janszen. This evidence is what prompted the banishment from baseball of Pete Rose, which he signed. The evidence was enough for the Commissioner. In 1989, baseball s Commissioner Bart Giammati suspended Pete Rose from association with professional baseball for life for gambling. Rose also spent five months in a minimum security prison for tax evasion in 1990. He did not report cash money he accepted for signing baseballs and photographs at baseball card shows. It is still to this day not proven that Rose did bet on the baseball team that he was managing. Rose himself still holds true to his statement that he never bet on the game of baseball. Evidence is minimal and it has been over ten years, yet he is still ineligible to be voted into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
