19. Court ponders autopsy on
executed inmate
๏ NASHVILLE โ Tennessee's appeals court is
expected to hear arguments Friday on whether
medical examiners should be allowed to conduct an
autopsy on a death row inmate executed last month.
๏ Cecil C. Johnson Jr. was put to death by lethal
injection at 1 a.m. on Dec. 2. The 53-year-old was
convicted of killing three people, including a 12-year-
old boy, during a Nashville convenience store robbery
in 1980.
๏ The medical examiner in Nashville intended to
perform a routine autopsy on his remains after the
execution, court records say. But hours before his
execution, Johnson and his wife filed legal motions
claiming the autopsy would violate his constitutional
rights.
