The fundamental nature of Esalen Massage reflects the slow-moving ocean rhythms enveloping it's birthplace, Big Sur, California. Designed to mimic the internal synergy of earth and body, the long, slow, t'ai chi-like signature strokes, evoke an experience of unparalleled relaxation and deep, nutritive restoration.
Esalen Massage expounds the practitioner's ability to bond with their innate rhythms and intuition, awakening one to the many dimensions and powers of mindful listening. Developing this organic presence imparts the benefits of Intentional Touch allowing each session to take on an aspect of creativity and connection all its own.
The sources of this rich work are endless: it was informed by sensory awareness, Swedish massage, oriental medicine, meditation, gestalt practice. The influence of deeper work borrowed from Ida Rolf's teachings, Moshe Feldenkrais' sense of neural co-ordinates, Milton Trager's passive movement to awaken the mind, yoga stretches, somatic mind-body psychology, and more energetically based polarity massage and cranial-sacral work continue to "grow" the work. Each practitioner translates this into his/her personal art form.
Esalen Massage is renowned for its ability to reestablish harmony and allow both the practitioner and client to initiate the body's ability to restore and flourish.
Necessary Supplies: Please bring 2 twin sheets, 1 pillow case and one queen pillow to use as a bolster. Also bring massage oil or cream in a leak-proof bottle.
