Thai Massage is an ancient form of bodywork that some surmise was developed at least 2,500 years ago. It originated in India and was later brought to Thailand. This ancient art increases flexibility, releases deep and superficial tension and enhances the body’s natural energy flow. Thai Massage offers a unique and magical combination of gentle rocking, deep stretching, rhythmic compression, soft-tissue manipulation, energy balancing and acupressure. You can enjoy cultivating fluidity, rhythm, balance, flexibility, strength and mental focus for you and your clients by practicing a massage modality that feels more like art and play than work.
Thai Massage opens, lengthens, twists, and compresses muscles and at points can feel more like a dance than a massage. Our tight, computer using, rarely sitting on the floor crossed legged bodies, after the initial shock of being manipulated and moved about, are totally refreshed by being reminded of what natural feels like. It is truly a fun massage to give and to receive. Consequently, Thai Massage offers the massage therapist many more tools for his or her box. Thai Massage utilizes leaning pressure, stepping on the body, energy line work, compressing of arteries (what is known in Thai massage as blood stopping), stretching, and some yoga postures. To apply these techniques a therapist uses much more of his or her body during the massage. They use thumbs, palms, feet, elbows, forearms, and knees.
Upon completion of this Thai Massage class, you will be confidently prepared to combine your new knowledge and skills into a dynamic, sixty minute session. You will also develop a heightened awareness of your physical and mental patterning and learn to consciously integrate breath and movement emphasizing an open heart and hara. Enjoy a course intentioned to ignite curiosity and imagination while cultivating valuable movement skills which can be instantly incorporated into your current practice.
Participants are required to bring several (3-4) flat sheets for mat and 1-2 pillows for any side-lying work, as well as pillow cases. Participants must wear loose fitting clothing (easy to stretch and be stretched in). All other equipment and supplies provided by CFMNH.

Introduction to Thai Massage Continuing Education Workshop
1. INTRODUCTION TO THAI MASSAGE WORKSHOP
APRIL 26-27, 2014
15-Hour NCBTMB Approved CE’s including FREE 3-Hour Professional Ethics Class
Thai Massage is an ancient form of bodywork therapy. It is assumed to have originated in
India and was later brought to Thailand. It is estimated that it was developed at least 2500
years ago.
Conducted on a mat on the floor with the client fully dressed, it combines elements of shiatsu,
yoga, and massage. Some have called it “lazy man’s yoga” because the therapist takes the
client’s body through a series of stretches after opening the energy or “sen” lines.
During this 12 hour workshop, you will learn about the origins of Thai massage and how to
use proper body mechanics while working on the mat. The intro class will focus on the
supine position and by the end of the class you will be able to give a 50-minute Thai massage
in supine. Heavy emphasis on the sen lines and how to work the sen lines, as well as on
Thai foot massage will be given.
If you are looking for something new and different this is a great class to take. Whether you
pursue the study of Thai massage further or just enjoy the weekend learning a new form of
bodywork, you will be able to incorporate what you learn into your table work immediately
while enhancing your massage practice and deepening your appreciation for an ancient
system of healing.
